Dit is ons nieuw hondje Kira, een kruising van een waterhond en een Podenko. Ze is sinds 7 februari 2024 bij ons en druk bezig ons hart te veroveren. Het is een lief, aanhankelijk hondje, dat zich op een week snel aan ons heeft aangepast. Ze is heel vinnig en nieuwsgierig, een heel ander hondje dan Noleke.
This is our new dog Kira, a cross between a water dog and a Podenko. She has been with us since February 7, 2024 and is busy winning our hearts. She is a sweet, affectionate dog who quickly adapted to us within a week. She is very quick and curious, a very different dog than Noleke.

ESA astronaut Thomas Pesquet captured a series of strange moving objects above Earth while orbiting our planet above California aboard the International Space Station on April 17, 2017. The giveaway is the fact that the lights are not tumbling, which indicates they are actively controlled.

Did Pesquet just film UFOs flying over our planet?
The video filmed by Pesquet was initially intended to record an electric storm near the horizon, just above the western US.
At 25 frames per second of video, the flashes in the atmosphere produced by the rays are perfectly appreciable from the orbital complex. The view is beyond fascinating.
However, moments later the video records the dizzying presence of two objects moving at high speed above the Earth. The ESA Space Debris Bureau later confirmed that “they are consistent with intact objects, and were most likely satellites in operation.”
However, scientists were unable to confirm which satellites—if they were satellite at all—were captured in the video.
As noted by spcae.com, “ESA’s Space Debris Office determined that the objects are most likely not space junk, because “the objects’ brightness in the video is consistent with intact objects,” officials said. And they’re probably not meteors, either, said Detlef Koschny, a scientist in ESA’s Space Situational Awareness Program office who studies near-Earth objects.”
“The giveaway is the fact that the lights are not tumbling, which indicates they are actively controlled,”ESA communications officer Daniel Scuka said space.com in an email.
Furthermore, experts revealed that the objects were most likely not meteors. Koschny further explained that a bright meteor, traveling in the atmosphere usually lasts a second or less. Larger objects may remain visible for 2 to 3 seconds.
However, the video filmed by Pesquet was captured at 25 frames per second, meaning the objects are bright for several tens of seconds.

In June 2013 five friends decided to go out into Arizona and take some footage of space when they attached their GoPro recorder to a weather balloon and sent it up into the sky. This was the last they saw of it for two years and when it returned it was worth the wait as it gave them some amazing shots of Earth it had taken from space.
STUDENTS GOT FAA APPROVAL TO LAUNCH NEAR TO TUBA CITY
College students and friends Bryan Chan, Ashish Goel, Ved Chirayath, Paul Tarantino and Tyler Reid decided to build a device and calculated the trajectory of it then registered it with the FAA so that it wouldn’t interfere with any aircraft that might be passing. The balloon carried a GoPro Hero3, Sony camcorder and Samsung Galaxy Note II smartphone, with the two camera recording footage and the smartphone taking the photos. They finally decided to launch the balloon out in the desert just a few miles from Tuba City.
The group wanted to track the progress of their balloon via GPS that was on a smartphone; however, they lost contact with the location once the device and balloon went out of range of the cell phone tower. This left them wondering for many months, if they would ever see the balloon ever again or if they would get their cameras back from the balloon.
HIKER FOUND BALLOON AND EQUIPMENT TWO YEARS LATER
The group waited and waited and then gave up on the idea of ever seeing it again. However, two years later they did get to see the results from their project when they received a call from a hiker. The hiker had been out in Arizona and had come across a box with the names of the group on it, around 50 miles from where they originally launched the balloon.
The team had hoped that the balloon would have captured what they thought would be the money shot, the Grand Canyon photographed from the stratosphere. They processed the data taken from the device that had been attached to the balloon and found out that it had reached 98, 664 feet and had a flight time of 1 hour and 38 minutes in total.
The footage they managed to get from the camera was more than they had hoped to get and they managed to retrieve all of the original images and made a 4-minute video that offers a look behind the scenes of their incredible story.

However, visiting this icy moon in order to extract samples and learn more about its atmospheric composition has proved to be a daunting task. It is so daunting, in fact, that NASA has decided that it is one that they simply cannot undertake alone.

In order to ensure that Europa doesn’t remain virgin territory for space exploration in the near future, NASA has made overtures to the ESA for the two agencies to collaborate in a joint expedition to the moon. In the proposal, referred to as the Joint Europa Mission (JEM) was unveiled this Sunday in the Austrian capital city of Vienna at the annual meeting of the European Geosciences Union.
Representatives from NASA proposed that the two agencies combine resources and technology in order to make the mission together and the proposal was met with some enthusiasm. “The whole idea is that if we think exploring Europa for life is important, it should be an international venture.”
The plan put forward by NASA is that JEM would launch in the mid-2020s and would run for approximately six and a half years. When the lander reaches the surface of Europa it will explore for a little over a month, primarily scanning materials for any traces of life. Simultaneously, an orbiter craft would spend three months taking measurements of the moon in order to provide information about Europa’s structure with particular emphasis on the composition of the underground ocean.
At this current time, there are clear signs that representatives from both of the space agencies are very keen to go ahead with this exciting joint venture. There have even been suggestions that if the mission is a success that there could be follow-up collaborative efforts to explore the other moons of Jupiter and neighboring gas giant Saturn which is considered to be good candidates for life. However, nothing can go ahead on this project until it is given the full approval of President Donald Trump who has ultimate oversight over the activities of the American space agency.

Scientists believe that oceans of Mars have evaporated due to the thinning of the planet atmosphere that fact flees in space.
Although Mars has no evidence of a global magnetic field, the observations show that parts of the crust of the planet have been magnetized, suggesting that the alternation of the polarity of son dipole field have taken place in the past.
However, there are more things on Mars which have caused confusion among the experts. The exploration of Mars rovers of NASA has noticed the quantity of readings of methane at the surface of the Red Planet. On Earth, 90 per cent of the whole of the methane in the atmosphere is produced by living organisms. Traces of methane captured the Curiosity on the red planet, and the scientists believe that this could point to the existence of life on the red planet, at this precise moment, although there are other possible explanations.
But while Mars may not have life on its surface, many scientists claim that in the distant past, the Red Planet has perhaps taken in charge of the life and not only primitive life, but of complex life forms developed countries who have perhaps even the structures built on its surface.
One of these researchers is Dr. John A plasma physicist who has obtained his diploma at the University of California at Davis and which apparently has had a brilliant career as a scientist submits that the Martian life has been deliberately destroyed with nukes.
In a scientific article, Dr. Brandenburg says: That Mars present, "… based on new data, the evidence that during this period of Earthlike climate, biological evolution product, to length, a humanoid civilization leaving ruins at several sites, Cydonia Mensa and Galaxias Chaos being two sites more intensively studied. The data from these sites has formed the basis of the hypothesis Cydonia (Brandenburg, DiPietro and Molenaar, 1991) of a former, indigenous populations, about the civilization of the Bronze Age on March."
And, curiously, each day of new images of Mars prove that there is something strange on its surface. Over the past two years, countless images of Mars were analyzed by foreign hunters across the world. Some of them --show awkwardly which seems to be artificially structured on the surface of the Red Planet.
All jokes aside, a part of the substance found in Mars that makes you think "that if in a certain way, the life on Mars developed millions of years ago, and has finally disappeared?"

Russian scientists have made a new borehole into Lake Vostok, the prehistoric Antarctic water mass, which has been sealed for millions of years – three years after a previous mission was prematurely ended by an accident resulting in sample contamination.

The mysterious X-37B is a reusable unmanned spacecraft. It is considered as one of the most mysterious and advanced spacecraft ever operated by the United States Military. The enigmatic space vehicle has reached 700 days in space and no one knows its exact purpose. Experts argue that the X-37B could be used as a spy satellite or to deliver weapons from space, others believe it is part of a secretive space program operated by a shadow government.
One of the most mysterious—known—spacecraft to ever be flown into space is without a doubt the Air Force X-37B spacecraft which reached a staggering 700 days in space.
No one knows what its true purpose is and what exactly its doing while it orbits Earth. However, numerous ufologists and conspiracy theorists argue that the X-37b is just one of the many secret spacecraft that belong to a ‘secret space fleet’ operated by the governemnt. It’s the tip of the iceberg some have said.
If it is indeed SECRET, it’s not the best-kept secret since there is some information about it. The X-37b is also known as the Orbital Test Vehicle 4. It carries a mysterious payload that is its biggest secret.
Some argue that it’s a next level space-bomber, while others believe it’s specifically designed to take out space weapons. In May 2010, Tom Burghardt wrote for Space Daily that the X-37B could be used as a spy satellite or to deliver weapons from space.
The X-37 began as a NASA project in 1999, before being transferred to the U.S. Department of Defense in 2004
Previously, the X-37b’s record in space was 674 days which lasted from December 2012 to October 2014.
The secret space plane is known to have used the Vandenberg Air Force Base in California for landing. According to space.com, recent plans to consolidate launch and landing activities could mean vehicles touch down at the Shuttle Landing Facility at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center.
However, where exactly and when the mystery spacecraft will return to Earth is a mystery just as its true mission.
According to Captain Annmarie Annicelli, an Air Force Spokeswoman: “The landing date will be determined based on the completion of the program’s on-orbit demonstrations and objectives for this mission. While the program has the capability to land at either KSC or Vandenberg, the landing location is determined by a variety of factors,” reports space.com.
The enigmatic space vehicle was built and designed by the Air Force and was launched into space atop a United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket on May 20, 2015.
It is considered as one of the most mysterious and advanced spacecraft ever operated by the United States Military.
The enigmatic spacecraft is designed to orbit our planet—following a specific mission—and is built to land like one of NASA’s now-retired shuttles.
The Spacecraft was put together by Boeing. The X-37b orbits our planet in low-earth orbit, between 110 (177km) and 500 miles (800km) above Earth. The ISS—by comparison—circles our plant at around 220 miles (350km) above Earth. The X-37b has an orbital speed of 28,044 km/h (17,426 mph).
Furthermore, while no one really knows what the contents of the X-37b’s payload are, NASA has revealed it features a materials experiment aboard, while the Planetary Society is tagging along with a solar-sail demo.
The solar sail demo—called LightSail—uses a propulsion system that acquires photons from the sun, commonly referred to as Solar Sailing. According to the Daily Mail, nine other CubeSat nano-satellites are also taking a piggyback ride into orbit. The space plane – one of two of the same design – is operated robotically, without anyone on board, and is reusable.
The author and UFO expert shares his experiences working with the British Ministry of Defence, “X-Files” and his presentation at Saturday’s Mutual UFO Network event.
Ever wonder if there’s any truth behind the “The X-Files” and other sci-fi shows?
They might not be as far-fetched as you think, according to UFO expert Nick Pope. The former British Ministry of Defence employee, dubbed “the real Fox Mulder,” worked in the government’s UFO program from 1991 to 1994, investigating UFO sightings and other unexplained phenomena. Now the author, TV personality and sci-fi media consultant wades deep in the world of the unexplained, and will present at the fifth Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) Erie Conference on Saturday at the Bayfront Convention Center.
But conferences like the one in Erie aren’t just for those who believe in the extraterrestrial.
“This should not be something just for the believers,” said Pope, 51, who left the MOD in 2006 and has lived in the United States for the past five years. “I would love to see skeptics there, too, and people who are agnostic about it. I hope people will come, wherever they are on the belief spectrum.”
He recently answered a few questions about his former post at the Ministry of Defence, “The X-Files” and his upcoming presentation at Saturday’s conference.
What put you on the path to investigating UFO sightings and other claims for the Ministry of Defence?
“I was a civilian employee of the Ministry of Defence, but like military and a number of these government organizations, you get moved around every few years — either on level transfer or promotion. And I was lucky enough for three years in that wider 21-year career to be assigned to their UFO project. I didn’t have a prior interest in the subject. I had no belief in it. It was simply ‘this is the next posting that we’d like to put you in.’ So it came up really from the personnel department and I embarked on this remarkable journey.”
Did that help you to be objective or skeptical about claims you were investigating?
“I don’t think you want a true believer in that job. I’m not sure you would want a die-hard debunker, either. These investigative jobs are best if you go in with a neutral, dispassionate view and you simply go the way the data take you. We got about 200 or 300 cases each year, and I went into each one with an open mind and just thought ‘I will do my best to investigate this and see what I can turn up.’ I did not regard it — and it was not ever my mission — to prove any of these things were extraterrestrial spacecraft. Neither, contrary to what conspiracy theorists say, was it my job to really debunk them, either. I just had to say ‘Look, we’ve had a report of something in our airspace. Obviously the air force and government want to know what this is. Let’s see if we can’t find out.’”
Were you mostly investigating UFO sightings, or were you also involved with cases of other unexplained phenomena?
“Most of the job involved UFO sightings, but it was impossible to do that job without finding yourself the kind of clearinghouse, as it were, out of the ordinary. We were the part of government that got reports, not just of UFOs, but through that, alien abductions, crop circles, people who thought they had seen ghosts on military bases. We were kind of dubbed by the media as ‘the real, live “X-Files” unit.’”
Are you a fan of “X-Files”?
“I am, actually, yes! It was — and still is, hopefully — a great, great series. Just beautifully written and acted. I was a fan before I was approached to get involved. I do consultancy and spokesperson work (for) a lot of alien-themed movies, TV shows and video games, and I was brought in on the second ‘X-Files’ movie and on the reboot of the TV series to do some interviews to say to the media and public ‘Is any of this real?’ And of course, the answer is yes, actually they do.”
What will your Saturday lecture, “Secrecy vs. Disclosure,” entail?
“The UFO community are, I think, always talking about disclosure with a big ‘D.’ They have this image that it’s going to be some big, formal announcement where the president speaks live to the nation and says ‘We’re not alone.’ It may not be quite as simple as that. And actually one of the great secrets, I think, is that government doesn’t really know, either, in relation to UFOs. Certainly we in the UK never had any spaceships hidden away in air force hangars, any of that sort of thing — although we were always accused of having that evidence and keeping it back. Hand-on-heart, we didn’t. But my point is more generally, if there was this great secret, could that secret even be kept these days? As much as people believe in Big Brother and the secret state, I’m going to argue that perhaps the balance of power is shifting more toward the individual, therefore more toward a situation where states find it more difficult to keep secrets. There’s espionage, which we’ve always had, but whistle-blower culture seems to be expanding.
“I’m going to talk about how difficult it would be to keep a secret, but then the other thing is, I’m going to be speculative, and I’m going to say if this is true, if government does act as guardian of this great secret, why wouldn’t it be told? What might be the advantages of disclosing this information, but what might be the disadvantages? We’re going to look at all the cliches — would there be panic in the streets, would it undermine the international financial system and political institutions? It will be themed on UFOs, but I think that the points I’m making could be made right across the board.”
Are people receptive to that perspective?
“Yes and no. I think I do get a lot of positive feedback, but there’s no getting away from the fact that, to some of these people, I’m probably the bad guy. The fact that I did this for the government means that there are people who think I was part of a conspiracy, that I was part of the cover-up. There are people who believe I’m still secretly on the payroll, that it’s my job to put out disinformation, to infiltrate the UFO community and see what they know, etc., etc. When I expose my skepticism about conspiracy theories, it doesn’t go down well in all quarters. But you know, I’m not a believer that you should just turn up at these conferences and tell people what you think they want to hear. I think a conference is far better if there are a range of views, if things do get a little interesting and spiky, and if we do knock a few ideas back and forward.”

This was stated by the spokesman of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration during one of the last hearings of the Committee for Science, Space and Technology of the United States.

There are many who claim that unofficially, mankind has already made contact with aliens, and not just little microorganism floating around inside a massive alien ocean, but advanced spacefaring civilizations.
Twenty-five years ago, we didn’t know that planets existed beyond our solar system. Today, we have confirmed the existence of over 3,400 exoplanets that orbit other suns. And we continue to make new discoveries.
Professor Thomas Zurbuchen, associate administrator of the Science Mission Directorate at NASA headquarters in Washington, said our civilization is on the verge of discovering evidence of alien life in the cosmos.

Taking in count all of the different activities and mission that are specifically searching for evidence of alien life, we are on the verge of making one of the most profound, unprecedented discoveries in history, said Zurbuchen during the hearing of the Committee on American Science, Space and Technology.
At the hearing, professor Zurbuchen mentioned all of NASA’s recent achievements in their quest for extraterrestrial life that support his claim.
“Two weeks ago NASA’s Cassini mission demonstrated the presence of hydrogen in Saturn’s moon Enceladus, while the Hubble team announced the results of the second observation of the oceans of Europa, one of the moons of Jupiter. Both discoveries are potential evidence of life, “said the NASA spokesman, who also highlighted the advances made in astrobiology.
“And while we have not yet found definitive signs of life elsewhere, our search is making remarkable progress,” said Zurbuchen, who noted that NASA’s number of astrobiology missions is on the rise.
“Mars 2020, our next explorer, and will continue to advance this quest by researching a region on Mars where the ancient environment may have been favorable for microbial life. The mission will also look for signs of past life and collect samples that will be brought back to Earth, “said professor Zurbuchen.
Zurbuchen also pointed out that to prove the existence of extraterrestrial life requires the cooperation of several scientific disciplines as a whole, such as biology, geology, astronomy, planetary sciences, Earth sciences and many others.
The NASA Transition Authorization Act of 2017, which President Trump signed into law last month, ensures continued American leadership in astrobiology and the search for life.
It establishes “the search for life’s origin, evolution, distribution, and future in the universe” as a fundamental objective for NASA. To accomplish this, the bill directs NASA and the National Academies to develop an exoplanet exploration strategy and an astrobiology strategy.
While all of this is great news for space explorations and our hopes—officially—to find alien life, there have been some seriously interesting quotes made in the past related to alien life.
One of our favorite quotes comes from Dr. Brian O’Leary, a former NASA Astronaut, and Princeton Physics Professor:
“There is abundant evidence that we are being contacted, that civilizations have been monitoring us for a very long time. That their appearance is bizarre from any type of traditional materialistic western point of view. That these visitors use the technologies of consciousness, they use toroids, they use co-rotating magnetic disks for their propulsion systems, which seems to be a common denominator of the UFO phenomenon.”

Volgens de NASA heeft de sonde het bovenste wolkendek van Saturnus op 3.000 kilometer genaderd. De afstand tot de binnenste ring bedroeg 300 km.
NASA noemde de missie de "grote finale". Cassini is in 1997 gelanceerd. De sonde kwam in 2004 in een baan om de planeet. Uiteindelijk zal de sonde gecontroleerd neerstorten op 17 september.

Als we UFO-jagers moeten geloven wemelt het op Mars van leven. Een recente ‘ontdekking’ door een ruimte-enthousiasteling lijkt die theorie te ondersteunen.
Paranormal Crucible plaatste op 20 april een video op YouTube waarin een vreemd, langwerpig object is te zien in het Marslandschap.
“Intrigerend object dat is gevonden door rover Curiosity, dit keer mogelijk een boomstronk,” staat in de beschrijving te lezen.
Versteende resten
Volgens Paranormal Crucible kan het gaan om de versteende resten van een boom op Mars.
“Het object is ongeveer een meter hoog en gezien de vele ontdekkingen van planten en dieren op Mars is het logisch om aan te nemen dat een bepaalde boomsoort ooit op deze raadselachtige planeet heeft bestaan of nog steeds bestaat,” klonk het.
Martiaanse koning
Mogelijk was de boom onderdeel van de tuin van de Martiaanse koning wiens ‘resten’ vorig jaar door dezelfde UFO-jager zijn gespot. Of misschien is het gewoon een rots.

Curiosity, de grootste rover die ooit naar Mars is gestuurd, werd op 26 november 2011 gelanceerd en landde op 5 augustus 2012 op de rode planeet.
Van sporen op het Mars oppervlak tot vreemde gebouwen en bizarre lichtverschijnselen, het is zo langzamerhand dagelijkse kost op Mars aan het worden.
Wat niet alledaags is, is een wetenschapper die NASA voor de rechtbank daagt omdat ze volgens hem geen onderzoek doen naar het aanwezige leven op Mars.
Wij klagen altijd over NASA en dat ze beelden manipuleren, dingen verborgen houden voor de mensheid en soms ook gewoon keihard liegen.
Iemand die daar wat aan doet, is Dr. Rawn Joseph uit Amerika. Hij is al in 2014 begonnen met een aantal rechtszaken waarin hij NASA aanklaagt op diverse gronden.
Zo is hij ervan overtuigd dat er wel degelijk (primitief) leven is op Mars en in zijn eerste rechtszaak heeft hij dit instituut aangeklaagd voor het niet onderzoeken van een situatie die eigenlijk niet kan bestaan zonder dat er leven op Mars is.
Het ging dan om een foto die is gemaakt door de Opportunity Rover van een bepaald gebied waar niets bijzonders op te zien was. Twaalf dagen later wordt er weer een foto genomen van datzelfde gebied en nu ligt er opeens iets. Iets, dat niet verder door NASA wordt onderzocht en dat zoals altijd wordt afgedaan als een rots.
Er zijn meerdere rechtszaken aangespannen waaronder eentje eind vorig jaar waarin Dr. Joseph in een 87 pagina dik document stelt dat NASA liegt over het leven op Mars en dat ze in principe levensgevaarlijk bezig zijn om monsters terug te brengen naar de aarde, omdat die wel degelijk biologische organismen bevatten die er dan voor kunnen zorgen dat er een pandemie ontstaat die de gehele mensheid zou kunnen wegvagen.
Als bewijs voor biologisch leven op Mars gebruikt hij als voorbeeld de aluminium wielen van de Curiosity Rover die heel lang mee hadden zullen gaan, maar die door biologische corrosie nu al de nodige gaten vertonen.
Gaten die niet zouden zijn ontstaan als er geen organismen zich aan de wielen hadden kunnen hechten om zo de corrosie te kunnen veroorzaken.
Ongeveer dagelijks komen er dingen boven water betreffende de planeet Mars die simpelweg niet kunnen. De volgende opname is al wat ouder en gemaakt door één van de satellieten die in een omloopbaan om Mars zweven en daarop zijn sporen te zien.
Niet alleen is er een recht spoor te zien van iets, maar ook een waar zelfs een bocht is zit. Nooit komt NASA met enige verklaring hoe dit soort dingen zouden kunnen.
Het is als het een ware een soort lichtstraal die er het ene moment niet is, het volgende moment wel en daarna weer is verdwenen.

1. Close Encounters of the Third Kind 1977
This film follows a group of people who attempt to contact alien intelligence.
Roy Neary witnesses a UFO when it passes by his truck and its bright lights lightly burn his face. Roy becomes fascinated with UFOs and is obsessed with finding out more about them.
Meanwhile a group of scientists and researchers discover Flight 19 - a plane that went missing 30 years ago but turns up intact.
2. Star Wars franchise 1977 - present
We couldn't compile a sci-fi list without including the Star Wars movies. You'll never see so many aliens in one film!
Star Wars tells the story of adventures "in a galaxy far, far away".
The franchise began in 1977 with the original movie simply titled Star Wars. It was an instant success, quickly becoming a worldwide cult hit.
Star Wars has gone on to expand, including books, comic books and games as well as movies.
3. Invasion of the Body Snatchers 1978
A remake of the classic horror film from 1954.
In San Francisco Matthew Bennell (Donald Sutherland) notices that people are starting to change and their moods are different.
When a writer and his wife discover a mutilated corpse he knows something sinister is going on.
There is an enemy attacking the city.
4. Star Trek franchise 1979 - present day
This follows the adventures of the USS Enterprise which represents the United Federation of Planets. The crew is on a mission to explore new worlds and "boldly go where no one has gone before".
The first film was released in 1979 and was about a massive energy cloud heading towards Earth. The film borrowed many elements from The Changeling - an episode of the TV series Star Trek.
5. E.T. 1982
A classic 80s film about a gentle alien who is stranded on Earth and befriends a young boy called Elliott.
Director Steven Spielberg shot most of the film from the eye-level of a child, in a bid to connect further with Elliott and E.T.
A 2ft10ins tall stunt man did most of the full body shots of E.T. but the kitchen scenes were done by a 12-year-old boy who had no legs but was an expert at walking on his hands.
6. Men in Black, 1997
Will Smith plays an NYPD officer recruited by Tommy Lee Jones' agent 'K' into a secret organisation known as the Men in Black for the purpose of 'protecting the Earth from the scum of the universe'.
Armed with their mind-wiping neuralizers, they keep tabs on the alien refugees who have made our planet their home.
When an alien crash-lands in new York and kills a farmer, the agents must do everything in their power to prevent all-out alien war breaking out.
7. Avatar 2009
When his brother is killed marine Jake Sully decides to take up a mission on a distant world called Pandora.
There he learns of greedy corporate figurehead Parker Selfridge - who wants to get rid of the native humanoids called the Na'vi - so he can mine the precious material in their woodland.
Jake begins to bond with the natives and falls in love with a beautiful alien called Neytir.
It's rumoured there are four sequels of this film in the pipeline, with one being released every Christmas.
8. PAUL 2011
It might not be a serious alien movie but it's funny, sweet and also appeals to people who aren't sci-fi fans.
The storyline follows a wisecracking alien called Paul who decides to escape from his compound, at a top-secret US military base, and return to his spaceship.
Along his adventures he meets two sci-fi fans, Graeme (Simon Pegg) and Clive (Nick Frost).
9. / 10. Independence Day 1996 /Independence Day: Resurgence 2016
Disparate groups of people converge in the Nevada desert in the aftermath of a worldwide attack by an extraterrestrial race of unknown origin. Along with the rest of the world, they launch a last-ditch counterattack on July 4 – Independence Day in the United States.

Wednesday (April 26) marks the celebration of all things extraterrestrial, so we're looking back at reported UFO sightings recorded in Surrey skies.
From orange lights spotted over Godalming to a "silent helicopter" in Dorking , a range of UFO sightings have been reported over the years.
Government files reveal UFO sightings in Surrey
Back in 2009, Get Surrey reported how a series of files released by the Ministry of Defence showed dozens of sightings were reported to authorities across the UK in the early 1990s.
Among these were star shaped blue lights, black balls and mysterious diamond shaped objects spotted in the skies above Surrey.
Two objects measuring "elbow to finger size" were spotted for around two minutes above the railway bridge footpath in Woodbridge Hill, Guildford, in July 1994 at 10.20pm.
In Dorking, at 10.45pm on January 30 the same year, a man standing in his back garden with his daughter and parents spotted several "diamond shaped (objects) minus corners" circling the sky.
Among these were UFOs described as "sausage-shaped" and a "silent helicopter".
Woking, Godalming and Walton have been some of the UFO hot spots, each with three or more reported sightings since the turn of the millenium.
Here's a list of UFOs spotted in that time period:
Addlestone (13/05/2002) - one very big circular object that was white and very bright.
Bagshot (no specific date) - sighting.
Caterham (29/04/2009) - a very small white light with no flashing lights or smoke trail. Headed north then did a sharp turn to the east and disappeared.
Cobham (17/12/2006) - white object moving from north to south, looked like object was burning up.
Cobham (28/06/2008) - "something interesting".
Dorking (23/10/2001) - "a silent helicopter resembling a sea stallion" shone a light on the witness.
Egham (10/09/2000) - three lights, bigger than stars - white and bright but not blinding, moving erratically around one another.
Epsom (09/09/2009) - thirty orange globes in four waves - may have been lanterns.
Epsom (no specific date) - sighting.
Ewhurst (26/05/2007) - red light flew past house making popping sound.
Farncombe (26/09/2009) - two orange/red dots in sky, both disappeared.
Farnham (11/08/2009) - UFO.
Farnham (26/07/2008) - two round red lights, both disappeared.
Farnham (22/11/2009) - bright red and orange object, no noise, probably a meteor.
Godalming (31/07/2008) - UFO.
Godalming (25/03/2009) - bright spherical object, the "size of a full moon", seemed to be wrapped in "bright glowing cloud of light", moved erratically.
Godalming (10/09/2009) - intense, bright white light seen between path of Gatwick and Heathrow.
Godalming (no specific date) - sighting.
Guildford (04/09/2008) - big red diamond-shaped object, no sound.
Haslemere (16/04/2008) - two cylindrical objects, silent, moving at helicopter speed.
Hersham (24/08/2009) - "large orange fireball" burning for 35 seconds, no noise.
Hogs Back, A31 (28/12/2002) - four pairs of lights.
Oxted (12/07/2008) - 90 orange lights in V or S shaped pattern - size of footballs.
Oxted (22/02/2009) - object came into back garden, like "upper part of egg", glowing bright orange, root structure on bottom. "It looked like it was having trouble but righted itself and gently flew off."
Shepperton (10/11/2000) - eight to 10 oval objects, 20ft across, green and white and rotating.
Surrey (20/05/2004) - object was so close [that] grooves and windows could be seen.
Walton (16/02/2002) - one oval disc with green and red flashing lights.
Walton (07/04/2020) - one round object with red and green flashing lights.
Walton (08/04/2002) - round object with flashing lights.
Warlingham (01/03/2009) - bright orange lights in triangular formation, made no sound.
Woking (31/05/2002) - "sausage-shaped object", 20 times larger than normal aircraft.

Scientists are attempting to identify the amino acids--building blocks that make proteins and support all life on Earth--that might feasibly form the basis of extraterrestrial life. The researchers have analyzed how an assortment of 15 amino acids, some found here on Earth in living organisms and some not found in living organisms on Earth, hold up in the face of extreme conditions found on other planets and moons.
Claire Mammoser, an undergraduate research assistant in the laboratory of Laura Rowe at Valparaiso University, will present the work at the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology annual meeting during the Experimental Biology 2017 meeting, to be held April 22-26 in Chicago.
"In a different extraterrestrial locale, the proteins in an organism would not necessarily be the same as that of an organism on Earth, so they might use amino acids that are known to us but not used to make proteins on Earth," said Mammoser.
"Our main goal with this research is to see if there are structural characteristics of some amino acids that lead to a higher stability in extraterrestrial conditions and then to see what those characteristics might be."
The team subjects vials of amino acids to extreme temperature, pH, ultraviolet radiation, gamma radiation and other conditions designed to mimic environments on Mars; Enceladus, a moon of Saturn; and Europa, a moon of Jupiter. Tracking the degree to which each amino acid remains intact or breaks down under these conditions, the team looks for patterns in the stability of amino acids with various characteristics, such as large size or the ability to bind with water.
"Finding trends in amino acid stability would give us an idea of what sort of amino acids may have survived in outer space long enough to create life," Mammoser explained.
Now that the team has refined its methods in a preliminary batch of amino acids, it is beginning a new round of experiments using amino acids that have been extracted from meteorites and ones created in origin-of-life experiments going back to the 1950s. They hope the research will help pin down the key characteristics that could foster extraterrestrial life.
"This work is exciting for us because there is not a lot of previous work in this area," said Mammoser.
"Often, we are privileged to work on extensions of existing areas of research which have been pioneered by great minds in the field, but this project has been different in that we have done a lot of the initial development ourselves.
"This is both a challenge and extremely exciting, because there is a sense that we are not just gathering data, but we are also making decisions about the best way to measure amino acid stability in our lab every day."

Dashcam footage appears to show what looks like a shooting star above Wellington.
A bright light seen shooting across the sky on Wednesday evening is likely to be the first of many, according to a Wellington astronomer.
The light, which most eyewitness accounts describe as bright green and moving extremely quickly, was reportedly witnessed in Wellington, Nelson, and as far south as Christchurch and Dunedin.

Dr Claire Bretherton, from the Carter Observatory in Wellington, said the object was most likely a meteor, and Kiwis could expect to see several more as a meteor shower approached.
"We are coming up in a couple of weeks time to the peak of the Eta Aquariids meteor shower, which will peak on the sixth of May," she said.

A $1.6 million super pressure balloon was released by Nasa from Wanaka at 11am on Tuesday. It was seen over Christchurch at 6:00pm.
"That starts to be visible now and continues into the third week of May. That's actually a pretty cool shower because it's caused by Earth going through the debris left behind by the famous Halley's Comet."
Bretherton said it was unusual for a meteor to be visible from so many locations around the country, but not impossible.
Many Kiwis were granted a separate spectacle on Tuesday afternoon, when a tow balloon, launched by Nasa earlier in the day from Wanaka, was spotted.
But Bretherton said the balloon moved too slowly to explain the sightings.
Wellingtonian Stephen Moore managed to capture the UFO on his dashcam, shortly before 8pm on Tuesday.
Moore and his son eagerly returned to their home in Hataitai and downloaded the footage from the camera.
"It records in real time, so after we saw it we thought it was too fast to be a plane," said Moore.
Brett Jennings saw something similar in Nelson, and said the light was bright green in colour.
"We saw it at low altitude between Grampions Hill and the hospital tracking south over Waimea Rd."
Moana Cole was camping last night with her family outside lincoln and said they saw three meteors within an hour and a half.
"The first two had red tails, the last had a green tail."
Bretherton said this was possible, depending on what the meteors were made of and what gases they interacted with.
Rosie Gill was walking in Banks Peninsula and saw what she described as "a very bright, most beautiful meteor streak across the sky" at around 8pm.
"It appeared to go from east to west and was in the southern sky. Alas I have no footage," she said.
A police spokeswoman said a call just before 8pm in Wellington may have been related to the incident, when a Wainuiomata resident reported seeing what they thought was a flare.
The police boat, Lady Elizabeth, was deployed, but found no vessels in distress.
