Surprise! Galaxy's Monster Black Hole Likely Has Huge Neighbor on a Crash Course
Surprise! Galaxy's Monster Black Hole Likely Has Huge Neighbor on a Crash Course

Two monster black holes are apparently on a collision course near the heart of a nearby galaxy, a new study reports.
Astronomers have spotted an extremely bright object located about 1,500 light-years from the supermassive black hole known to occupy the heart of Cygnus A, an oft-studied galaxy that lies about 800 million light-years from Earth.
"We think we've found a second supermassive black hole in this galaxy, indicating that it [the galaxy] has merged with another galaxy in the astronomically recent past," study co-author Chris Carilli, of the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) in New Mexico, said in a statement. [Images: Black Holes of the Universe]
"These two would be one of the closest pairs of supermassive black holes ever discovered, likely themselves to merge in the future," Carilli added.
The researchers studied Cygnus A in 2015 and 2016 using the Very Large Array (VLA), a system of radio telescopes in New Mexico. These observations revealed the mysterious bright object, which had not appeared in earlier VLA images of Cygnus A from the 1980s and 1990s.
The completion of a VLA upgrade in 2012 motivated the new imaging campaign, study team members said.
"To our surprise, we found a prominent new feature near the galaxy's nucleus that did not appear in any previous published images. This new feature is bright enough that we definitely would have seen it in the earlier images if nothing had changed," co-author Rick Perley, also of the NRAO, said in the same statement. "That means it must have turned on sometime between 1996 and now."

Additional observations made in 2016 by the radio telescopes of the Very Long Baseline Array, which is also located in New Mexico, detected the object as well.
Infrared images captured by NASA's Hubble Space Telescope and Hawaii's Keck Observatory between 1994 and 2002 show a faint object in the same spot within Cygnus A. This mysterious body had originally been interpreted as a clump of stars, but the recent and dramatic brightening is forcing a rethink, study team members said.
There are only two viable possibilities that could explain the new observations, the researchers added: The object is either a supernova or a supermassive black hole in outburst mode.

The team favors the black-hole hypothesis, because no known type of supernova could stay so bright for so long, the researchers said. The second supermassive black hole probably became so active after stumbling onto a lot of material to gobble up — perhaps a star that strayed too close, or gas stirred up by the galaxy merger, the researchers said.
"Further observations will help us resolve some of these questions," said study lead author Daniel Perley, of the Astrophysics Research Institute of Liverpool John Moores University in England (and Rick Perley's son). "In addition, if this is a secondary black hole, we may be able to find others in similar galaxies."
The new study has been accepted for publication in The Astrophysical Journal.
A UFO has been videoed hovering over Cley Hill near Frome.
The video, taken by a Frome resident, shows a streak of light circling over the National Trust owned land in Corsley.
Located at the edge of the Longleat Estate in Warminster, Cley Hill has long been thought of as a hot spot for UFOs.
The resident who took this video believes this streak of light could be one such UFO – although he is a little sceptical.
Speaking to Somerset Live, he said: “I took this video from my house in Frome last night. It was over the Cley Hill area I think, which is always a hotspot for UFOs”
“Probably a drone with a fancy flame effect tail or something. It's been spotted a few times locally.”
The Frome resident thinks the streak of light could have been created by a drone
For more than 40 years, this lofty hilltop has been a meeting place for UFO spotters, all drawn by talk of lights, flying objects and what have been described as ‘other unidentifiable oddities’.
Nigel Vile, a local rambler, regularly goes on walks around the area.
Speaking of the hill, he said: “Some experts have gone as far as to describe the nearby town of Warminster as Britain’s UFO capital on account of a phenomena first encountered in the mid-1960s that became known as the ‘Warminster Thing’.
“Strange noises were heard in the skies above the town, and an equally strange shimmering light was observed in the vicinity.”
It’s not just in Warminster that these UFOs are spotted, however. There are many towns around Frome that have similar experiences.
This crop circle was spotted near Cley Hill recently
Nigel said: “More recently, a report in the local press recorded the experiences of a number of people who witnessed a UFO in the skies in June 2001.
“A slow-moving bright light was spotted at Semington which was buzzed by an aircraft. Later, a number of people in Trowbridge saw an object comprised of three lights in a triangular formation heading west towards Warminster.
“As one critic noted, however, considering the proximity of the military training area on Salisbury Plain, was it not more likely that the UFOs people have been seeing during the past 50 years or so are more attributable to military activity rather than visits by alien life forms?”
The top of Cley Hill looking towards Frome
Cley Hill can be found just off the A36 heading towards Longleat. It is more than 800ft in height and is surrounded by relatively flat agricultural land. At the top of the hill are the remains of a Bronze Age hillfort that encloses two round barrows.

Superaarde ontdekt op ‘steenworp’ afstand. Bestaat hier leven?
Superaarde ontdekt op ‘steenworp’ afstand. Bestaat hier leven?
Billionaire helping develop NASA spacecraft says aliens are HERE - but it's covered up
Billionaire helping develop NASA spacecraft says aliens are HERE - but it's covered up
A US billionaire entrepreneur, who is working with NASA to create a new expandable spacecraft, has said he believes that intelligent aliens are secretly living on Earth.
Robert Bigelow, 73, CEO of Bigelow Aerospace, appeared in the latest edition of prime time CBS current affairs show 60 Minutes.
But, during the programme, which looked at his work on developing the expandable spacecraft, which inflate in space and could one day change how humans live and work in zero gravity, he made the sensational admission.
He described a UFO encounter his grandparents had on an undisclosed date while driving on a canyon road outside Las Vegas.
He said: "It really sped up and came right into their face and filled up the entire windshield of the car.
"And it took off at a right angle and shot off into the distance."
He told reporter Lara Logan it began an obsession with aliens and is the reason behind his "alien logo" for Bigelow Aerospace.
He said he had since had his own "close encounters", but did not go into details.
The business guru also revealed being a subscriber to a widely held conspiracy theory that the US Government, and others across the globe, know that aliens are here on Earth, and even interact with them, but it is all kept top secret from the public amid fears over the impact it would have on religion and the rule of law.
CBS*GETTY
Robert Bigelow (pictured) is convinced aliens are here on Earth.
Ms Logan described it as "the kind of conversation you don't ordinarily have with an accomplished CEO".
She asked him if he believed in aliens?
He said: "I'm absolutely convinced. That's all there is to it.
"There has been and is an existing presence, an ET presence.
"And I spent millions and millions and millions - I probably spent more as an individual than anybody else in the United States has ever spent on this subject."
Ms Logan asked: "Is it risky for you to say in public that you believe in UFOs and aliens?
"You don't worry that some people will say, 'Did you hear that guy, he sounds like he's crazy?'"
I'm absolutely convinced. That's all there is to it. There has been and is an existing presence, an ET presence.
Robert Bigelow
But, he replied: "I don't give a damn. I don't care.
"It's not going to make a difference. It's not going to change the reality of what I know."
She said: "Do you imagine that in our space travels we will encounter other forms of intelligent life?"
Mr Bigelow addded: "You don't have to go anywhere.
"It's just like right under people's noses."
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed to CBS that for several years, it had referred reports of UFOs and other unexplained phenomena to a company Bigelow owns.
Ms Logan said: "Robert Bigelow's quirky and he knows it, but when you have as much money as he does, no one - not even NASA - seems to care."
Stephen Bassett is the executive director of the Paradigm Research Group (PRG), which is campaigning for the US Government to life an alleged "truth embargo" about the existence of aliens.
He said: "Billionaire Robert Bigelow of Bigelow Aerospace spoke truth to power and finally said publicly what he and hundreds of millions of people around the world already know to be true.
"And he said it on CBS 60 Minutes Sunday night. There is an extraterrestrial presence engaging the human race.
"How many military officers, political figures, intelligence agents, scientists, entertainers, and, yes, billionaires have to speak this truth before the investigative journalists in America figure out the biggest news story in history has been right under their noses for 70 years?
"For decades CBS 60 Minutes has avoided the ET issue with great resolve.
"It simply would not cover the subject. Better late than never.
"PRG tips its hat to Robert Bigelow. Thank you.
"So, hello Elon Musk and Richard Branson. Would you care to say what you really think about the extraterrestrial presence? Nothing invigorates like speaking truth to power."

Is Roswell a UFO mecca? New sighting in town preparing for 'alien crash' 70th anniversary
Is Roswell a UFO mecca? New sighting in town preparing for 'alien crash' 70th anniversary
EXCLUSIVE: A new 'UFO sighting' in the 'alien mecca' Roswell is being investigated as the remote US town gears up to mark the 70th anniversary of the alleged crash of a flying saucer there in 1947.
Another UFO sighting in Roswell is being investigated.
The Mutual UFO Network (MUFON), the world's biggest organisation dedicated to alien and UFO research, is investigating a report from a mother about a bizarre sighting in the New Mexico town.
In a report to MUFON, the unnamed mother said she was driving with her son at around 9pm.
She wrote: "Out of the corner of my my eye, I saw a stationary, white and red light, bigger than a star, appear, but I did not pay attention to it right away.
"It was off the horizon.
"I could see it easily through my vehicle windshield, then, a few seconds later, another light appeared on the left to the first.
I could see it easily through my vehicle windshield, then, a few seconds later, another light appeared on the left to the first. That's when I looked directly at them."
New witness
"I pulled over, and stayed parked on the side of the road for another five minutes or so, hoping to see them again.
"Me and my son were excited, and we were really hoping to see some more. I was hoping to be able to record them, so i can show someone what I saw. but they didn't come back when we were parked there."
The case, which happened on April 13, is being investigated locally by MUFON investigators.
Roswell has been at the heart of the UFO scene since in July 1947 the military sensationally announced in a press release it had found the remains of a crashed flying saucer in the desert nearby.
But the following day it retracted the statement, saying it was in fact a damaged US Air Force air balloon.
Witnesses later came forward to say there had been alien bodies within the "crashed craft", which along with the wreckage were then taken to the mysterious top-secret Area 51 military base in Nevada.
It has gone on to become the biggest UFO conspiracy theory on record.
The MUFON database holds around 50 alleged UFO sightings connected to Roswell.
The belief that aliens really are visiting Earth is strong in the West Midlands, where regional media have reported an upsurge in sightings.
A local newspaper reports that there has been 13 UFO sightings in the past four years, including four in the UK's second biggest city Birmingham.
Ten of the alerts involve objects seen in the sky, mostly at night, while the other three reported seeing lights.
But as Birmingham Mail reports: "The truth is out there – but don’t ask the police to investigate just yet."
GETTY
UFO CAPITAL: The West Mids, known for its many sports clubs, now has a new name for itself
The publication adds: "Because, perhaps unsurprisingly, none of the calls were investigated by officers."
Four of the 13 calls came from Birmingham, and the rest from Sandwell, Coventry, Dudley, Solihull and Walsall.
One sighting came in January 2015, when a mum from Selly Oak, near Birmingham, rushed into her three-year-old son’s bedroom to find him screaming “spaceman” repeatedly.
She recalls that when later shown a picture of an alien with grey skin, a bulbous head and large eyes – known by researchers as a Grey – her son immediately repeated the same word and began crying.
There have been numerous sightings of a triangle-shaped UFO have been reported over Dudley, the Mail adds.
Its most recent appearance was in Quarry Bank in 2011, when a man smoking in his garden saw a mysterious object with flashing lights - which was then chased away by another strange craft.
In Tipton near Dudley in 2010, two young men saw an “amazing fast-moving and silent craft in the shape of a triangle fly across the sky at a mind-boggling speed.”
The object has also been spotted hovering over Dudley Castle and the Merry Hill Shopping Centre in Brierley Hill.
And in April, 2009, builders at West Midland Safari Park were stunned to see a UFO floating right above them.
Market trader Michele Bardsley filmed mysterious lights over her home in Kingshurst, Solihull in May 2014.
She said the lights were “just hanging there” as she watched from the back door of her house while having a cigarette break.
She filmed the lights on her phone and, when the footage was shown on her big TV screen, she could see much more activity among the cluster of UFOs, as some appeared, disappeared and suddenly zoomed.
And in 2012 an off-duty police officer claimed he witnessed a UFO speeding across the sky near Birmingham Airport.
The figures, from a Freedom of Information Act request, were originally published on West Midlands Police’s website and covered the years 2013 to 2016.
Asked how many were investigated, the force told the Mail: “Based on the graded response/log none of the calls were investigated."
Lancering De lancering zal vermoedelijk plaatsvinden in augustus volgend jaar.

NASA WANTS TO TOUCH THE SUN - BIG ANNOUNCEMENT AHEAD
NASA WANTS TO TOUCH THE SUN - BIG ANNOUNCEMENT AHEAD
NASA is getting ready to make a huge announcement about their first mission to touch the sun.
ASTRONAUTS WOULD FACE EXTREME TEMPERATURES AND RADIATION LEVELS
The agency is intending to send a spacecraft much closer to the sun than they have been able to do before. Astronauts will have to face radiation levels along with temperatures that are far more extreme than ever before.
During the press conference, which NASA is scheduled to hold on Wednesday, they will talk about the Solar Probe Plus; the conference will be streamed live on NASA Television along with shown on the website from 4 pm BST.
MISSION TO THE SUN BEGINS IN 2018 COLLECTING MECHANISM DATA OF CORONA
NASA have revealed that the spacecraft is going to set off for the sun during the summer of 2018 and it is going to collect data about the mechanisms that heat up the sun's corona, which is the outermost part of the atmosphere of the sun.
The corona is said to be many hundreds of times hotter than the surface of the sun, but no one knows why. The temperatures are said to reach around 500,000 degrees Celsius or even higher. It also lies behind the solar wind, which is a stream of constantly charged particles that impact the life on Earth.
SPACECRAFT WILL BE AROUND FOUR MILLION MILES FROM SUN SURFACE
NASA said that the spacecraft they are sending up would be placed in orbit around four million miles from the surface of the sun and it is going to have to deal with radiation and heat that no other spacecraft throughout history has had to deal with. It is going to be exploring the outer atmosphere of the sun along with making critical observations that should give some answers to question that are decades old about just how the physics of stars really work.
The data that comes from the exploration should be able to help with forecasting of big space weather events that may have an impact on life down on Earth along with astronauts and satellites out in space.
ASTRONAUTS PROTECTED BY CARBON COMPOSITE SHIELD
The spacecraft is going to have to be able to deal with temperatures that are about 1,400 degrees Celsius and NASA are planning to deal with these temperatures thanks to a carbon composite shield of 11.5cm in thickness.
The Solar Probe Plus conference is going to be held at the University of Chicago William Eckhardt Research Center Auditorium.
THIS DECIPHERED MEMO IS THE FINAL PROOF FOR THE ROSWELL ALIEN CRASH
THIS DECIPHERED MEMO IS THE FINAL PROOF FOR THE ROSWELL ALIEN CRASH
Ufologists have said that deciphering a top secret memo that was captured in a photograph following the Roswell crash almost 70 years ago, may finally prove that an alien UFO did crash at the site and put an end to one of the most enigmatic mysteries surround UFOs.
They say that a part of the memo says ““…And the victims of the wreck…in the ‘Disc’… they will ship…”
In July 1947 it was alleged that a UFO had crashed in New Roswell Mexico and since this time many theories have come out as what the military attending the crash site actually found.
FOR 70 YEARS QUESTIONS HAVE REMAINED UNANSWERED
Countless questions have been floating around, such as whether they found alien bodies in the wreck, or if it was an actual UFO that had crashed and the government had covered up the whole thing. These are questions that are have been circling around for almost 70 years and up to now have remained unanswered.
Not analysis has been made of a top secret memo and this may be able to shed some light on what has become one of the biggest and most interesting UFO cases to have ever come out.
The crash in Roswell had great weight among popular culture for many decades and it has been the subject in many fiction books along with documentaries. Everything began when many farmers in Roswell New Mexico reported that they had heard loud explosions during the night on July 4 1947.
PEOPLE OUT WALKING SEE OBJECT WITH LIGHT REFLECTING OFF IT IN DISTANCE
The following day Gerald Anderson, a father, and his five-year-old son, his brother, and cousin had been walking in a relatively deserted region with the name of Plains of St. Augustine. They saw an object that was in the distance and which had light reflecting off it. This was said to be the alleged UFO that had crashed.
The book “A History of UFO Crashes” by Kevin Randle and Don Schmitt, said that they researched and during this they found out that military radar had tracked a UFO in the sky over southern New Mexico for four days. On July 4, 1947, the radar suggested that the object had crashed about 30 to 40 miles to the northwest of Roswell.
Eyewitness William Woody lived to the east of Roswell and he said that he was outside the house along with his father on that night when they saw a brilliant object just plummet to the ground and crash.
On 8 July a press release was issued and this was picked up the many news outlets.
It said that there had been lots of rumors about a flying disc and that the intelligence office of the 509th Bomb group of the Eighth Air Force Roswell Army Air Field had gained possession of a disc thanks to the cooperation between the Sheriff of Chaves County and local ranchers.
It went on to say that a flying object had crashed close to Roswell on a ranch and the rancher stored the disc until he could get in contact with the Sheriff, as he did not have a telephone. On doing so the Sheriff notified Major Jesse A. Marcel of the 509th Bomb Group Intelligence Office and the disc was picked up from the home of the rancher.
The photograph that has been of interest to ufologists was taken of a secret memo that is said to show General Roger Ramey at Fort Worth Army Air Field, holding a memo whilst crouching over debris that was said to have been taken from the crash site. This was later said to have been identified by the military as being nothing more than a weather balloon.
DOCUMENT MAY LEAD TO ANSWERS ABOUT ROSWELL CRASH
Ufologists think that to solve the long-standing mystery behind the crash at Roswell, people need to get a better look at that document that is being held by General Ramey. Experts have said that the barely readable memo may be proof, finally, that the military did recover a UFO that had crashed in Roswell along with the bodies of aliens.
The intelligence officer, Jesse Marcel, who was given the job of inspecting and collecting the material, said that he, was told to go along with the story and not to ask any questions.
It was also claimed later that the debris in the photos taken was a part of the cover-up and that the material from the weather balloon had been used to trick members of the public. The explanation was then accepted by members of the press and public. It was not until the 80s when Marcel came forward that the Roswell incident caught the attention of the public.
MODERN TECHNOLOGY ALLOWED DECIPHERING OF MEMO
Thanks to the modern technology of today the experts have managed to decipher some of the Roswell memo that was said to have been seen in the hands of General Ramey. David Rudial said that using technology he managed to zoom in on the memo and this allowed him to decipher around 80% of it.
It was said that there is a reference to a disc and that part of the memo says ‘and the victims of the wreck’.” It is said that this is finally proof that a disc-shaped UFO crashed at Roswell and was recovered. What happens to be more startling is the fact that it seems to corroborate alien bodies were also found in the wreck.

US forking out to redesign interceptors for missile defence system
US forking out to redesign interceptors for missile defence system
THE Pentagon is spending big to redesign interceptors for its missile defence system amid a growing threat. But Australia doesn’t have the same luxury.
THE United States is shoring up its missile defence system in the face of an increasingly belligerent and dangerous North Korea.
The US government awarded Boeing, the world’s largest aerospace company, $1.48 billion for the development of a “Redesigned Kill Vehicle”, the Pentagon said in a statement last week.
The extra money brings the total publicly known value of the US government contract with Boeing to a whopping $7.78 billion.
The White House wants to upgrade the system before Kim Jong-un develops the capabilities to strike the continental US.
So what is a kill vehicle? Simply put, kill vehicles intercept and destroy long-range ballistic missiles. Launched atop missiles of their own, they use sensors, lenses and rocket thrusters to pick out ballistic warheads and steer into their path.
When it comes to shooting down ballistic missiles “there is a fundamental difference in the technology — whether you want it to do that inside the atmosphere or in space,” says Dr Stephan Fruehling from the ANU’s Strategic and Defence Studies Centre.
In the case of medium and long range missiles coming from North Korea, an Exoatmospheric Kill Vehicle (EKV) which intercepts the missile in space would be the technology of choice.
If a threat is detected by a system of sensors based on land or on warships at sea, then a Ground-Based Interceptor (GBI) will be launched into space using a rocket booster. Once outside the Earth’s atmosphere, operating at the edge of space at hypersonic speeds, the kill vehicle is deployed.
It seeks out the target using sensors, a sophisticated on-board computer and a rocket motor used for steering in space. It hones in on the missile and destroys it using nothing more than the force of a massive collision.
Simple, right?

MULTIPLE FAILURES
The technology has been around for more than two decades but it hasn’t always worked as intended. In fact it’s been hugely problematic.
In 2010 a meticulously controlled test of its missile defence technology at a site in Alaska ended in embarrassment for the US military. Despite knowing the exact speed and coordinates of the target, the intercepting kill vehicle completely missed the fake warhead.
Eleven months later, when the US Missile Defense Agency staged a repeat of the test, it again failed. During a test in July 2013 success once again proved elusive, raising serious questions over missile defence system the Pentagon had poured more than $US40 billion ($A53 billion) dollars into.
Dr Stephan Fruehling is a Chief Investigator on the Australian Research Council’s project on nuclear deterrence and was a member of the Australian Government’s external panel of experts on the 2016 Defence White Paper. He says the latest contract awarded to Boeing by the US military is about reinventing a kill vehicle that isn’t wedded to ageing technology.
The United States deployed an operational GBI system in California and Alaska which was rushed into the field after September 11 under the George W. Bush administration. Essentially the system is situated to intercept missiles from rogue states like North Korean or Iran during their trajectory to the continental United States.
But much of the system was based on technology from the previous decade, which has been plagued with issued since testing began in 1999.
“It has a lot of limitations,” Dr Fruehling told news.com.au. “And essentially what the US is stuck with is evolutions of a kill vehicle that remains based on this technology from the 1990s ... and that’s caused a lot of problems that they’ve had with that system.”
“What this is about now is taking a step back and developing a interceptor that addresses those issues,” Dr Fruehling said.

CALLS FOR AUSTRALIA TO DEVELOP MISSILE SHIELD
Advances in missile technology made by North Korea — as well as China — in the past few years have taken some western analysts by surprise. And the situation has led to growing calls for Australia to develop its own missile shield.
Defence specialist Andrew Shearer who previously worked as a national security adviser to Prime Ministers John Howard and Tony Abbott is among those who believe Australia needs to invest in this area.
He wants the government to examine systems “to defend the continent against the new and growing threat posed by long-range ballistic missiles that could be used to strike or intimidate future Australian governments”.
“The cumulative effective of these capabilities is to increase the missile threat to ADF forces deployed forward in the (Asia) region, whether independently or as part of an allied coalition,” he told Fairfax Media last month.
He also warned that over time such weapons could be used to “reduce Australia’s strategic depth and put Australian and allied forces operating from rear bases on the mainland at greater risk.
“The latter is a new threat but one that will become very real over the next decade,” he said.
According to Dr Fruehling “there has been an ongoing debate about whether Australia should actually acquire interceptors. But so far that’s not been done.” Largely because it’s not really a threat Australia could thwart on its own with current technology.
“If you look at the threat to Australia from intercontinental ballistic missile, there’s little that Australia could do to address that on its own,” he said. “If you look at North Korean missiles, for example, you’d have to have a ship with SM3 (a ship-based missile interception system) off the North Korean coast. Or you would have to base ground based interceptors in northern Australia but you would be looking at sensor infrastructure and an investment cost that runs into the dozens of billions, so it’s not really feasible.”
But that certainly doesn’t mean Australia isn’t engaged in aspects of missile defence systems on the research and development side of things.
“There’s been some technology co-operation, even going back to the 1990s” with our US ally but these experiments have been “largely in the sensor space in terms of looking at the overall horizon radar and how that could be to detect missiles,” Dr Fruehling said.
“There is some scope for integrating some Australian sensors into missile defence systems,” he said.
Everybody always says, “if they’re here then why don’t they just show up.” “They” is referring to extraterrestrials of course, and there are probably a million reasons as to why a more intelligent race from the “outside” looking in would not want to interact with us on such an open level just yet. To an outsider, we might not look the most attractive. The planet is plagued with war, poverty, diseases, greed, and secrecy. Environmentally it’s a disaster, and despite the fact that our potential is literally limitless, we choose to live in a way that is not really harmonious with the planet and all life on it. These are just a few of many reasons. Not to mention the fact that full blown contact might be a little more than our minds can handle, but perhaps not?
All of the theories surrounding the “alien takeover” agenda fail to account for the evidence that points to the fact that they’re already here, and that they’ve been visiting us for a very very long period of time.
That being said, sightings of unidentified objects, even ones performing physics-defying maneuvers have been documented by military authorities via visual and radar confirmation for decades, but whether or not these craft are ‘ET’ is an entirely different question. We do have, however, statements from hundreds of credible witnesses alluding to the fact that yes, some of them are indeed extraterrestrial in origin.
Was this the case with what happened in Phoenix Arizona in March of 1997? On this day, something extraordinary happened that, as Kurt mentions in the video below, was witnessed by 20,000 people, recorded by multiple cameras, which was then in-turn witnessed by millions.
Kurt Russell, a well known American actor is also a pilot, and on that day he was flying into the city and witnessed this phenomenon first hand. Listen to him share his story in the interview below.
“We’re on approach and I saw 6 lights over the airport in absolute uniform, in a V shape…It’s unidentified, it is flying and it’s 6 objects….That was the most viewed UFO event, over 20,000 people saw that.”
What Actually Happened?
It began with Luke Air Force Base, the media, the National UFO Reporting Center, the Governor’s office, and the police receiving a number of reports from people in Nevada of a very large craft hovering in the sky. Some people were reporting it as a boomerang formation of lights, just as Kurt describes in the video above.
The object (or objects) began moving south towards Arizona where even more people would see it. Again, people were not reporting just lights hovering in the sky, they were reporting an actual solid object, a craft of some sort, spanning the size of one or two football fields. The witness reports detail lights, sometimes multiple lights, in a pattern that ranged from a few all the way up to a dozen, all in some sort of organized formation. Witnesses reported them as white, and in some cases they were orange, red, or yellow. Reports indicate that at some point, the lights moved at very rapid speeds, while at others, they moved slowly and were also reported to hover. Some people described it as a huge, wedge-shaped craft with five lights on it. Some people claim that it passed directly over their heads and even hovered there for extended periods of time. People reported seeing, again, a large solid object, even going into detail about certain features they could spot on the craft.
“It was a giant V, and the right side of the V went over us, the left side was a couple blocks over.” – One (out of thousands) of the witnesses (source)
Again, this object has been described as massive, the size of one to two football fields.
There were a number of these types of descriptions from people who witnessed the object.
These types of reports came in at a time where it was much easier to make out the object or objects that were in the sky, as there was still some daylight. It was not until later that evening at approximately 10 pm when people in Arizona witnessed something truly spectacular. As UFO researcher Richard Dolan describes it:
“People in Phoenix were treated to an amazing display of hovering lights over the city. These lights appeared to be motionless and in perfect formation. They were truly an astounding sight to behold: an enormous semi-circular string of lights in the night sky.” (source)
The event received massive amounts of media attention.
Fife Symington, the Governor of Arizona at the time, even held a press conference that featured a large and costumed alien mocking all of the UFO enthusiasts, but it seemed goodhearted in nature and, according to him, was done to lighten the mood.
What is interesting to note, however, is that Fife was keeping something to himself – he actually witnessed the event, and the former Air Force veteran spoke out years after the event (when his stint as governor ended) saying:
“If you had been here 10 years ago, standing out here and looking out there at the lights, you would have been astounded, you would have been amazed. I suspect that unless the Department of Defense can prove otherwise, then it was probably some form of alien spacecraft. It was enormous and it just felt otherworldly, in your gut you could just tell it was otherworldly.” (source)

Famous Hollywood Actor Kurt Russell Admits Witnessing Phoenix Lights UFOs
Famous Hollywood Actor Kurt Russell Admits Witnessing Phoenix Lights UFOs
Actor Kurt Russell and Chris Prat recently visited the BBC’s The One Show to promote the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 movie. When the host cites a news story involving a pilot’s report of spotting UFOs while on approach at an Arizona airport, Russell comes in and admits that he was indeed that pilot. Interestingly, the event happened on the same night when mass UFO sightings took place, which is now known as The Phoenix Lights.
Russel recalled seeing six lights over the airport while on the approach. He said that the lights were on an absolute uniform in a V-shaped. Russell stated that the lights were unidentified and they are six objects, which he reported on his log.
Since then he never thought about the experience anymore. Two years later, he saw in a television show about UFOs. It was not clear to him at first why he seemed to know the story of Phoenix Lights. The show also mentioned an aviation pilot who reported seeing strange lights on landing. Later, he realised that the pilot was him. He then went to his log books and saw the flight at that time and confirmed it. However, he did not mention anything about UFOs. He just said that they are lights or objects and are unidentified.
Dozen of UFO Sightings Reported To West Midlands Force
Dozen of UFO Sightings Reported To West Midlands Force
The truth may be out there, but worried callers may have to wait longer to find out if humans are alone in the universe. The police may not be the right group to call if you happen to experience a UFO sighting.
In the past four years, twelve UFO sightings have been reported to the West Midlands force. However, the officers investigated none of the calls.
Ten of the reported sightings involve objects spotted in the sky, mostly at night. Others reported seeing lights.
The figures were published on the website of West Midlands Police. They are covered from years 2013 to 2016. The data was released through Freedom of Information Act request.
Four of the calls were from Birmingham, and the rest were from Walsall, Solihull, Dudley, Coventry, and Sandwell.
When asked the number of investigated reports, the force answered that none of the calls had been studied based on the graded response or log.
No other details available on the figures, but the Midlands has been a hotspot of possible unidentified flying object sightings over the past years.
The Birmingham UFO Group spoke to a mother from Selly Oak in January 2015. The mother recalled having rushed into the bedroom of her three-year-old son after he was screaming, “Spaceman” repeatedly.
Later, when her son was shown off a picture of a typical Grey alien with grey skin, large eyes, and bulbous head, he immediately repeated the same word and started crying.
Several sightings of a triangular UFO have been reported over Dudley in the Black Country. In 2011, a man saw a mysterious object with flashing lights while smoking in his garden. The object was then reportedly chased away by another strange craft.
In 2010 in Tipton, two young men spotted a fast moving but silent triangle-shaped craft flying across the sky at a tremendous speed. The triangle UFO has also been reported hovering above Dudley Castle and the Merry Hill Shopping Centre in Brierley Hill.
Builders at West Midland Safari Park also claimed to have seen a UFO floating above them in April 2009.
Mysterious lights were filmed over market trader Michele Bradsley’s home in May 2014 in Kingshurst, Solihull. According to Michele, the lights were hovering as she watched them from the back door while having a cigarette break.
An off-duty police officer reportedly spotted a UFO speeding across the sky near Birmingham Airport in 2012.
And in 2010, two fighter jets were recorded on video whizzing above the M5 in the West Midlands, reportedly chasing a UFO.
Australian Government Investigates Taxpayer Funding of UFO Group
Australian Government Investigates Taxpayer Funding of UFO Group
An urgent investigation was launched by social services minister in Australia to determine how a UFO group get thousands of dollars in funds from taxpayers. Christian Porter described being in a “beam me up, Scotty” moment after discovering that his department approved nearly 6,000 Australian dollars or around £3,400 of grants for the Tuggerah Lakes UFO Group in the New South Wales central coast since 2013.
Mr Porter said that there’s no doubt they are very nice people, and lots of volunteers are getting something out of it, but it did not seem to pass a common sense test looking it from his perspective, representing taxpayers.
Mr Porter revealed that he asked the department to hold the fund transmission until they could give him a little more information on what the group is all about or what the group does specifically.
The Labour government initially provided the funding to assist with the cost of transporting volunteers with a disability.
According to the official records, the department approved AUD 2,645 in the 2017 volunteer grant program for the UFO group.
Under Labour government, Tuggerah Lakes UFO Group got AUD 2,994 in 2013.
The UFO group’s Facebook has over a thousand followers. According to their Facebook, the group wants to share information on UFO and related topics, support and encourage like-minded people and promote disclosure on UFO.

NASA is setting its sights on getting a much closer, deeper look at Jupiter’s tantalizing moon, Europa, and the mysterious ocean hidden beneath its icy crust. With two orbital missions already in the works, by NASA and the European Space Agency, NASA is looking further into the future toward a possible mission to put a robot on the surface.
Europa’s ocean, which may lie under only a few miles of ice—perhaps only a few hundred feet in some places—may be as deep as 30 miles, and contains more water than in all of Earth’s oceans. With the possibility of some form of hydrothermal vents supplying heat and life-supporting chemicals on the ocean’s floor, like those on Earth, the tiny moon has become one of the hottest subjects in the search for extraterrestrial life in the solar system.

In advance of issuing a call for formal proposals, NASA is priming the scientific community to begin thinking about what set of scientific instruments should be included on a lander. Ultimately, ten proposals will be selected to proceed to a competitive concept study, which carries funding of $1.5 million for each selected group, who will have a year to submit their technical proposals.
Europa’s ocean
Past spacecraft, including NASA’s Voyager and Galileo, gathered the first evidence leading to the discovery of Europa’s ocean: patterns in the cracks of the moon’s icy crust interpreted as ice sheets floating on water, as well as disturbances in Jupiter’s magnetic field in Europa’s vicinity that can be explained by the presence of a salty ocean.
Fractures and lines in Europa’s icy surface, one of the first pieces of evidence for the existence of the moon’s ocean hidden beneath.
Most recently, the Hubble Space Telescope detected plumes of water vapor erupting from Europa’s surface, further wetting scientists’ appetites to explore the liquid realm beneath.
Europa was discovered by Galileo in January 1610, along with three other large moons, the “Galileans.” Through a small telescope like Galileo’s, they appear as mere star-like dots, and for over 300 years that’s about all that humans could see of them. Only when the first robotic probe, Pioneer 10, passed through the Jupiter system did we get a closer picture.

Envisioning the lander
How would you design a robot to probe Europa’s deep dark waters from a landing site on the icy surface above? That’s the primary framing question for any competitive design concept. NASA will only select proposals that address specific scientific goals—namely, to look for evidence of life and a habitable environment in Europa’s ocean.
What instruments would you include? Ground-penetrating radar to survey structures in the moon’s crust? Chemical detectors to sniff for water vapor and other volatiles that may seep up from the ocean? Motion sensors to measure the movements of floating ice? Sensitive microphones to listen for any sounds penetrating the ice from below? NASA has issued just the right challenge to get imaginations churning….
Artist concept of a possible future landing mission to the surface of Jupiter’s ocean-bearing moon, Europa.
It’s not technically feasible at present to deliver a probe directly to the waters under Europa’s ice crust—let alone to the ocean floor tens of miles below that—so a lander will need to do its job without direct visual inspection. Pictures of Europan jellyfish swimming around would be nice—but we can’t get a camera down there yet. It’s difficult enough exploring the depths of Earth’s oceans….
What else does the lander need?
The final design of the lander ultimately will comprise more than the scientific instruments it carries. There will be plenty of engineering challenges and considerations further along in the design process.
Simply landing the probe will require some serious thought. Unlike landings on Venus, Mars, and Saturn’s moon Titan, parachutes are not an option since Europa has no atmosphere to help slow a lander down. Some form of rocket-powered descent and soft touchdown might work.
Deciding where to land requires planning as well. A landing site where the ice is thin and the waters relatively near the surface could make it easier for the lander to measure properties of the ocean, but we know very little about the nature of Europa’s surface terrain. Other than a few pictures taken by passing spacecraft, Europa is mostly unexplored. Planners should get some guidance from surveys by upcoming missions–NASA’s Europa Clipper and ESA’s “JUICE“—but right now the icy moon is terra incognita.
Another design consideration is a lander’s end-of-mission disposition. The nuclear-powered Galileo spacecraft was deliberately incinerated in Jupiter’s atmosphere at the close of its mission, to prevent it from crashing into a moon like Europa and contaminating a potentially life-bearing environment. Even if the lander doesn’t carry nuclear power cells, an outer space version of environmental “green” responsibility is a requirement.
Bigelow Aerospace founder says commercial world will lead in space
Bigelow Aerospace founder says commercial world will lead in space
NASA and Las Vegas entrepreneur have partnered on a technology that could change how humans live and work in space
CORRESPONDENTLara Logan
There's a new space race and it's not between the U.S. and Russia. It's between private companies and it's attracted multimillionaires and billionaires, like Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos. A less likely player is Las Vegas real-estate tycoon, Robert Bigelow, who, at 73, is making the biggest gamble of his life -- not on rockets -- but on expandable spacecraft, large, lightweight structures that inflate in space, a technology that could dramatically change how humans live and work in zero gravity.
Robert Bigelow
CBS NEWS
NASA has partnered with Robert Bigelow, who's an unconventional figure in the aerospace world. He's more at home on the Vegas strip than at America's space agency, and he's obsessed with aliens and UFOs. In the spring of last year, he and NASA carried out an historic test to prove his high-flying technology is ready to support humans in space.
When Elon Musk's SpaceX rocket roared into the skies above Cape Canaveral, it was on a mission for NASA, carrying nearly 7,000 pounds of cargo to the International Space Station -- food, supplies and Robert Bigelow's expandable spacecraft.
Robert Bigelow: Flying to the International Space Station is a really big deal. It's an experimental spacecraft, which is a big deal. We don't know how it's gonna behave for sure.
Lara Logan: Does that make you nervous?
Robert Bigelow: I'm nervous because I'm a nervous person, I think, and I don't necessarily always expect things to go right.
The Olympus
CBS NEWS
Bigelow's inflatable was packed inside the rocket's cargo capsule, known as Dragon, which you see here making it's way to the space station. We sped up this video from NASA because it took two days to get there.
It was moved into place, then just over a month later, we joined Bigelow at Houston Mission Control to see it inflate, the last critical step. If it worked, it would make history, the first expandable structure for humans in space.
Lara Logan: So what is it like for you this moment watching this happen?
Robert Bigelow: Severe curiosity as to what's gonna happen next.
Some 250 miles above the Earth, NASA astronaut Jeff Williams injected air. It was supposed to last about an hour. But took two tries over two days.
Finally, it worked. In this time-lapse video, you're seeing it expand in seconds. Close to $300 million and 16 years to get here. But for Bigelow, it was just a beginning.
Inside the Olympus
CBS NEWS
Under 80-foot ceilings at his company in Las Vegas, he showed us his next generation plans for outer space. He calls this the Olympus, a mansion for the skies. It's so large the rocket powerful enough to launch it is still years away.
Lara Logan: Is there anything this big that astronauts are working in today?
Robert Bigelow: No, nothing even remotely close.
Bigelow said he can turn this into anything a client wants -- a first-ever orbiting hotel, hospital or inflatable research facility. The B330 is smaller than the Olympus. This is what it would look like if it were used as a space station.
Lara Logan: This can function on its own?
Robert Bigelow: Well, it can function as a standalone destination because it has all the facilities that it would take to keep people alive.
The B330
CBS NEWS
For countries hoping to make their mark in space, Bigelow said this offers an affordable way in. Private industry, he believes, is becoming more dominant in developing space.
Robert Bigelow: NASA and government still has a role because it is still in a sort of embryonic stage. And there will come a time when it's not necessary at all. And the commercial world will absolutely be the leader for everything in space.
Lara Logan: What about the idea of national pride and what we do as nations. Neil Armstrong walking on the moon. He didn't do that for a private company. He did that for the United States of America and it meant something.
"...the commercial world will absolutely be the leader for everything in space."
Robert Bigelow: You bet it did. And that created a period of inspiration that hasn't been matched ever since. So now we're looking for a new era that says, "All right, how can we now shape this to where it's more accessible for a lot more folks at a lot less cost and still have safety and reliability at the same time?"
With no formal training in science or engineering, Robert Bigelow created an aerospace company with scientists and engineers that's achieved what no one else in the industry has done. His expandable spacecraft are the first and only alternative to the metal structures that have housed every astronaut in space for over half a century.
For Bigelow, it all began with growing up in a time of nuclear tests. As a young boy, he would watch the skies over Nevada light up with the bursts of atomic bombs.
Robert Bigelow: Witnessing those explosions in the 50s and 60s, you weren't aware of the ultimate ramifications of those kinds of things but there was a real strong feeling of energy and a secretiveness and so forth and it was cool.
Armstrong: "That's one small step for man…"
Later, he watched Neil Armstrong take the first steps on the moon, a moment in history he said still inspires him.
Robert Bigelow: The approach wasn't lightening fast…
But on this canyon road just outside Las Vegas, Robert Bigelow's story takes a turn that some may find, to put it lightly, improbable. He told us this is where his grandparents had a close encounter with a UFO.
Robert Bigelow: It really sped up and came right into their face and filled up the entire windshield of the car. And it took off at a right angle and shot off into the distance.
Bigelow Aerospace's alien logo
CBS NEWS
The story sparked his obsession, and explains the alien looking out from the side of Bigelow Aerospace. And it made for the kind of conversation you don't ordinarily have with an accomplished CEO.
Lara Logan: Do you believe in aliens?
Robert Bigelow: I'm absolutely convinced. That's all there is to it.
Lara Logan: Do you also believe that UFOs have come to Earth?
Robert Bigelow: There has been and is an existing presence, an ET presence. And I spent millions and millions and millions -- I probably spent more as an individual than anybody else in the United States has ever spent on this subject.
Lara Logan: Is it risky for you to say in public that you believe in UFOs and aliens?
Robert Bigelow: I don't give a damn. I don't care.
Lara Logan: You don't worry that some people will say, "Did you hear that guy, he sounds like he's crazy"?
Robert Bigelow: I don't care.
Lara Logan: Why not?
Robert Bigelow: It's not gonna make a difference. It's not gonna change reality of what I know.
Lara Logan: Do you imagine that in our space travels we will encounter other forms of intelligent life?
Robert Bigelow: You don't have to go anywhere.
Lara Logan: You can find it here? Where exactly?
Robert Bigelow: It's just like right under people's noses. Oh my gosh. Wow.
The FAA confirmed to us that for years, it referred reports of UFOs and other unexplained phenomena to a company Bigelow owns. He told us he's had his own close encounters, but declined to go into detail.
Robert Bigelow's quirky and he knows it, but when you have as much money as he does, no one -- not even NASA -- seems to care.
He bought the idea for his inflatable technology from the space agency. NASA had been working on this since the early 1960s -- but when Congress killed its program in 2000, Bigelow seized the opportunity and invested tens of millions of dollars to advance NASA's original idea.
It took him just six years to launch the first expandable spacecraft into orbit. His second followed a year later. But those were never meant for humans.
At that time, Bigelow was still trying to prove his inflatable structures would survive in space. A decade later, with both still circling the Earth intact, NASA felt the technology was ready to be tested for humans. Bigelow still monitors these spacecraft from his own mission control in Las Vegas.
Robert Bigelow made his fortune with a low-budget chain of rental apartments called Budget Suites of America.
CBS NEWS
Robert Bigelow didn't start out a rich man. He made his fortune not far from the Vegas strip, with this -- a chain of low budget, long-stay rental apartments called Budget Suites of America. In a time of glitzy high rises, he focused on creating homes for the city's temporary workers. And it paid off. Today, he has 19 of these across three states.
Lara Logan: And made you how much money?
Robert Bigelow: Enough to support the aerospace indulgence and Bigelow Aerospace.
Lara Logan: Well, "aerospace indulgence" is a big term. So do you want to put a figure on that?
Robert Bigelow: We're approaching 290 million.
Lara Logan: Of your own money?
Robert Bigelow: Oh, yea yea.
Lara Logan: So for a man who has had extraordinary success in the business world--
Robert Bigelow: Some some.
Lara Logan: This space business is financially the worst investment you've ever made?
Robert Bigelow: It's atrocious. I mean, we are not in control of our own destiny.
Lara Logan: Who is in control of your destiny?
Robert Bigelow: We're hostage to what happens with transportation, space transportation.
Thanks to innovators like Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos, Bigelow told us reusable rockets -- like this one you see sticking a perfect landing after launching his inflatable -- are making routine transportation a real possibility in the next decade.
When Robert Bigelow's inflatable structure was added by NASA to the International Space Station, humans had never been inside one in space. This test would be the first time. And astronaut Jeff Williams, the first American to experience it.

The interior only has sensors, and for two years, NASA will use them to monitor how this holds up to solar radiation and extreme temperatures.
Lara Logan: How far are you from us right now?
Jeff Williams: Well currently we're over Libya as I recall, but when we started this conversation, I think we were probably over the Atlantic Ocean.
From Bigelow's Mission Control, NASA connected us with Jeff Williams on the space station. As we spoke to him about Bigelow's inflatable room, he was orbiting the Earth at nearly five miles a second.
Jeff Williams: I was very excited to be part of it and to be part of something new.
Lara Logan: And how is it holding up?
Jeff Williams: Oh, it's holding up well. It was a little bit cool, and that was expected. Cooler than the air here, but not overly cold, and had that new car smell that you would expect. And it was very quiet, too.
Lara Logan: What do you think about men like Mr. Bigelow, people with deep pockets, private citizens getting involved in your world, in the world of space?
Jeff Williams: Oh, I'd say anybody that has the means to do exploration and is willing to jump in the game, more power to them. Private enterprise is trying to open up economic doors to space exploration and everybody will benefit from that.

Twelve UFO sightings have been reported to West Midlands Police in the past four years, new figures show.
But the worried callers will have to wait a while longer to find out if we really are alone in the universe because none of the calls were investigated by officers.
The witness said: “I went for a short walk around 8.15pm behind my accommodation, i.e. Heronbank West, Heronbank, University of Warwick.
“While coming back, I happened to look at this glowing (because of the flame) cylindrical type object in the sky, steering upwards in a somewhat fast motion.
“I was able to take a picture of it. But when I started taking a video, my phones battery died. My first reaction to that was ‘clearly it’s not a shooting star’.
“It could be a rocket launch though. After gazing at it for about a minute, I walked inside my accommodation building.”
On May 13, another spotter saw seven circular objects above the city through binoculars - they then drew them out for Mufon.
Another sighting - again in Coventry - on March 15 involved ‘two bright lights which were ellipses initially but became circles’.
The witness reported: “I was standing outside work having just finished a shift. A storm had just passed over and a beautiful rainbow was showing. I was taking photos of the rainbow and didn’t actually notice the lights in the frame.
“I took a series of photos to catch as much of the rainbow as I could but after transferring to a memory chip I put them away and forgot about them. I was sorting through old memory chips a few days ago when I found these photos.
“The first one showed a couple of ellipses with what appeared to be a solid centre. This was at 15.24 GMT. The next photo showed two large balls of light low to the ground and apparently in front of the lamp post.
“The time of the photo was also 15.24 so the lights had moved very quickly.”
