Bizarre images of so-called extraterrestrials have emerged online years later that authorities claim are fake.
US military officials confirmed a nuclear test surveillance balloon from Project Mogul had crashed in the 1990s.
Yet ufologists are convinced an alien crash landing was covered-up by the US military.
In July 1947, Forgus and his sheriff Jess Slaughter were travelling together to pick up a prisoner when they heard reports of a crashed aircraft.
The two men decided to investigate and stumbled across the now infamous scene.
“When we got there, the land was covered with soldiers. They were hauling a big creature,” Forgus said.
“The bodies must have been 5ft tall.

“I saw the legs and feet on some of them. They looked like our feet.
“The skin was a brownish color like they were in the sun too long. There were soldiers there about 300 or 400 of them.”
A transcript of the interview between Forgus and private investigator Deanna Short – obtained by the Mirror – was published by Philip Mantle, a former Director of Investigations for the British UFO Research Association.
“It is rare that anyone new adds anything to the Roswell event from an eye witness point of view,” Mantle said.
“If you treat the Roswell UFO crash as a ‘cold case’ investigation then new testimony like this can be invaluable.”
That footage, recorded on a mobile phone by Mike Westlake, sparked discussion among Post readers who said they’d seen similar ‘unidentified’ lights in the sky.
Jessica Lewis said: “I saw this on Sunday night. About 6 orbs zooming across the sky then just disappeared into thin air. I couldn't catch them on camera and couldn't figure out why they wouldn't photograph. Moving very fast.”
Hayley Jayne also said she saw ‘three lights, no object swiftly moving through the fog on a Bristol evening’.
The latest collection of footage is the latest in a string of supposedsightings to fuel the conspiracy that Bristol is a hotbed for extra-terrestrial activity.

But reader Jeff Baldwin, who responded to a video of the triangle of lights, was less than convinced of alien activity.
“I'm pleased your [sic] enjoying yourselves Bristol,” he wrote.
“Possible reasons might include: aircraft, low sun, planets, secret government projects, alien spacecraft. All are possible, but they're not all equally likely.”

Het suggereert dat het tijdvak waarin leven op de rode planeet kon ontstaan en standhouden langer duurde dan gedacht.
Marsrover Curiosity rijdt momenteel rond in de Gale-krater. En daar heeft de rover nu iets opmerkelijks ontdekt. Rond breuken in het gesteente bevindt zich gesteente dat lichter van kleur en rijk aan silica is. De onderzoekers duiden het lichte gesteente aan met de naam ‘halo’. En wat deze halo’s suggereren, is dat er zelfs lang nadat het meer in de Gale-krater verdampt was, nog grondwater stroomde.

Grondwater Curiosity trof de halo’s aan in afzettingen die ontstonden in de gloriedagen van het kratermeer. Maar ook in veel jonger gesteente dat waarschijnlijk door de wind in de Gale-krater is afgezet, nadat het kratermeer reeds was opgedroogd. In het hart van de halo’s is de concentratie silica hoog. De onderzoekers denken dat silica hier is afgezet toen grondwater door de breuken stroomde. En blijkbaar vloeide dat grondwater dus zelfs nadat het meer was opgedroogd nog rijkelijk.
Grondwater “Wat we zien is dat silica blijkbaar van heel oud sedimentair gesteente naar jongere gesteenten die daar bovenop zijn beland, is gereisd,” vertelt onderzoeker Jens Frydenvang. “Het doel van de missie van NASA’s Curiosity-rover was vaststellen of Mars ooit leefbaar was. En de rover heeft dat met succes gedaan, door aan te tonen dat de Gale-krater ooit een meer bevatte met water dat we zelfs zouden kunnen drinken. Maar we weten nog altijd niet hoelang dit leefbare gebied standhield. Wat deze vondst ons vertelt is dat zelfs toen het meer verdampte nog veel langer dan gedacht substantiële hoeveelheden grondwater aanwezig waren.”
En daarmee lijkt ook het tijdvak waarin leven zoals wij dat kennen – en dat niet zonder water kan – op Mars kon ontstaan en standhouden, omvangrijker dan gedacht. Of het grondwater dat zelfs na het verdampen van het meer in de Gale-krater door eventuele levensvormen gebruikt kon worden, is overigens nog niet bewezen.

Volgens de Fermiparadox zijn er miljarden aardachtige exoplaneten in ons sterrenstelsel. Maar waarom is er dan nog geen contact geweest met geavanceerde buitenaardse beschavingen? Wetenschappers vermoeden dat aliens wellicht een langdurige winterslaap houden.
In een nieuw paper opperen drie wetenschappers dat aliens zichzelf in een soort slaapmodus kunnen zetten. Misschien heb je de film Passengers gezien, waarin kolonisten naar een verre aardachtige planeet reizen en zich tijdens de honderd jaar durende reis in diepe slaap bevinden. Zoiets doen buitenaardse beschavingen dus ook, alleen gaat het dan om een winterslaap van vele miljarden of biljarden jaren. Maar waarom willen aliens dit?
Onderzoekers Anders Sandberg, Stuart Armstrong en Milan Ćirković vermoeden dat geavanceerde buitenaardse beschavingen een groot deel van het universum al hebben verkend. Toch weten ze dat er een betere, koele tijd aankomt. “Op dit moment is vrijwel iedere plek in het universum drie graden Celsius warmer dan het absolute nulpunt”, schrijven Sandberg en Ćirković in een blogpost. “Dit komt door de kosmische achtergrondstraling. Wanneer het heelal verder uitzet, daalt de temperatuur.” De kosmische achtergrondstraling is de warmtestraling die is uitgezonden tijdens de oerknal.
Steeds meer wetenschappers zijn ervan overtuigd dat geavanceerde buitenaardse beschavingen wellicht niet uit vlees en bloed bestaan, maar dat het computers zijn, die gebruik maken van kunstmatige intelligentie. Het is aannemelijk dat aliens hun brein uploaden naar een computer en hun inefficiënte biologische lichamen dumpen. Alles draait dan om rekenkracht.
In de film Passengers houden toekomstige kolonisten een langdurige winterslaap. Daarvoor maken zij gebruik van slaapcapsules.
Koel = cool En daarom is een lage temperatuur van groot belang. Een computer kan tien keer zo snel rekenen als het tien keer kouder is (in Kelvin). Als het heelal de komende miljarden jaren verder afkoelt, wordt het dus een steeds betere plek voor buitenaardse beschavingen. Het is daarom een mogelijkheid dat ze zichzelf momenteel hebben uitgeschakeld.
Tien quintiljoen keer meer doen “In een koudere toekomst kunnen zij tien quintiljoen keer zoveel doen,” zeggen de onderzoekers. Voor een alien is het dus verstandiger om een lang dutje te doen. Er zijn alternatieve mogelijkheden om koele plekken te vinden. Zo kunnen aliens een zwart gat gebruiken om warmte af te voeren. De temperatuur van zwarte gaten is kouder dan die van achtergrondstraling. Helaas werkt dit ‘slechts’ een paar honderd miljard jaar, daarna is de achtergrondstraling koeler.
Sparen voor later “Stel je voor dat je een portemonnee hebt met een paar biljetten (energie) en je wil graag taart kopen,” vertelt astrofysicus David Brin aan Gizmodo. “De taart wordt in de toekomst goedkoper. Je kunt dan beter je bankbiljetten sparen tot de minimumprijs is bereikt, anders krijg je minder taart voor je geld.”
We zullen voorlopig niet weten of de hypothese van Sandberg, Armstrong en Ćirković klopt, maar het zorgt in ieder geval voor wat mooie discussies.
University of Cambridge researchers have developed an AI algorithm that can assess how much pain a sheep is in by reading its facial expressions. This system can facilitate the early detection of painful conditions in livestock, and eventually, it could be used as the basis for AIs that read emotions on human faces.
READING SHEEP
One of today’s more popular artificially intelligent (AI) androids comes from the TV series “MARVEL’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Those of you who followed the latest season’s story — no spoilers here! — probably love or hate ADA by now. One of the most interesting things about this fictional AI character is that it can read people’s emotions. Thanks to researchers from the University of Cambridge, this AI ability might soon make the jump from sci-fi to reality.
The first step in creating such a system is training an algorithm on simpler facial expressions and just one specific emotion or feeling. To that end, the Cambridge team focused on using a machine learning algorithm to figure out if a sheep is in pain, and this week, they presented their research at the IEEE International Conference on Automatic Face and Gesture Recognition in Washington, D.C.

The system they developed, the Sheep Pain Facial Expression Scale (SPFES), was trained using a dataset of 500 sheep photographs to learn how to identify five distinct features of a sheep’s face when the animal is in pain. The algorithm then ranks the features on a scale of 1 to 10 to determine the severity of the pain. Early tests showed that the SPFES could estimate pain levels with an 80 percent accuracy.
HUMANE AND HUMAN
SPFES was a departure for Peter Robinson, the Cambridge professor leading the research, as he typically focuses on systems designed to read human facial expressions. “There’s been much more study over the years with people,” Robinson explained in a press release.“But a lot of the earlier work on the faces of animals was actually done by Darwin, who argued that all humans and many animals show emotion through remarkably similar behaviors, so we thought there would likely be crossover between animals and our work in human faces.”
As co-author Marwa Mahmoud explained, “The interesting part is that you can see a clear analogy between these actions in the sheep’s faces and similar facial actions in humans when they are in pain – there is a similarity in terms of the muscles in their faces and in our faces.”
Next, the team hopes to teach SPFES how to read sheep facial expressions from moving images, as well as train the system to work when a sheep isn’t looking directly at a camera. Even as is, though, the algorithm could improve the quality of life of livestock like sheep by facilitating the early detection of painful conditions that require quick treatment, adding it to the growing list of practical and humane applications for AI.
Additional developments could lead to systems that are able to accurately recognize and react to human emotions, further blurring the line between natural and artificial intelligences.
First it was Hillary Clinton and John Podesta talking about releasing the government files on UFOs if she became president. This week, it was revealed that Russian government official met with American UFO lobbyist Steve Bassett to discuss appealing to President Vladimir Putin to release that country’s secret UFO files. Putin himself made a strange reference to ‘men in black’ duing an interview with a French newspaper. Now we have the appearance of a mysterious video of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani discussing a UFO encounter he had as a young boy. Is this a trend? Is UFO and alien disclosure coming sooner than we imagined or even hoped for?
The video was uploaded on June 1 by YouTube user Behzad GH and has no indications of when it was recorded or where. President Rouhani says the UFO encounter occurred when he was in elementary school, grade 3, when he was 7 or 8 years old. Since he was born in 1948, that would make the year 1955 or 1956. The location was most likely Sorkheh in Semnan Province where he grew up. Rouhani says it was at the dawn of a Ramadan month, so that would put his sighting somewhere around April 24, 1955, or April 12, 1956, according to the Islamic calendar for those years. He describes it as “cuboid” up to 3 meters per side and shining a bright light over a mosque.
The president says the UFO landed and he thought it looked like a “howdah” – those carriages put on the backs of elephants by the wealthy as a method of transportation. He claims he saw someone inside it but could not identify them before the UFO lifted back into space. Rouhani claimed to follow it for 200-300 meters until it descended onto another mosque, but remained there only briefly before ascending again and disappearing. He admits not knowing what it was but assures it was not a hallucination or a dream and says it was a “special moment” in his life.
A howdah
What was the cuboid UFO President Hassan Rouhani saw in Iran in his youth? There aren’t many records of UFO sightings in Iran in those years. The most famous Iranian UFO sighting was the 1976 Tehran UFO Incident when two F-4 fighter jets chased a UFO before suffering mechanical failures, an incident that was well documented in a U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency report and has never been adequately explained. That UFO was much larger than the one Rouhani described. The 2004 Iran UFO sighting was a mass sighting most investigators believe was a surveillance plane or Venus. There was no landing as in the case of Rouhani’s UFO.
A more recent incident reported in mid January 2017 allegedly involved the Iranian military firing at glowing orbs over Tehran before fighter planes arrived to find nothing … or at least that’s the ‘official’ report.
President Rouhani is a lawyer, academic and cleric. It’s unlikely he would lie about seeing a UFO. Is the video a hoax? It’s possible. Is Rouhani joining the ranks of world leaders who seem to be heading towards UFO and alien disclosure? That’s possible too, although one mysterious video isn’t much evidence. An interview on the subject would be nice.
Anyone interested in heading to Tehran to convince the president to talk UFOs?
Has Russian President Vladimir Putin joined the ranks of conspiracy theorists who believe that many world leaders – excluding himself and his Russian counterparts – are aliens working with the Men in Black? In a wide-ranging interview this week with the French newspaper Le Figaro, Putin may have let something slip out unintentionally:
I have already spoken to three US Presidents. They come and go, but politics stay the same at all times. Do you know why? Because of the powerful bureaucracy. When a person is elected, they may have some ideas. Then people with briefcases arrive, well dressed, wearing dark suits, just like mine, except for the red tie, since they wear black or dark blue ones. These people start explaining how things are done. And instantly, everything changes. This is what happens with every administration.
Is Putin implying that U.S. presidents – at least the last three – know about the existence of UFOs and alien or are aliens themselves being kept in line by the same government agents dressed in black who have allegedly been seen by many UFO witnesses after speaking openly about their sightings? He said “wearing dark suits just like mine.” Photos of the interview show that Putin was wearing a black suit. He also said that when they show up, “everything changes.” Those might seem to be two small dots that may just be coincidental and not enough to draw a picture of Putin revealing the existence of Men in Black. Except …
On December 7, 2012, then Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev was answering questions after a television interview. When he believed the microphone was off, he gave the following answer when he was asked if “the president is handed secret files on aliens when he receives the briefcase needed to activate Russia’s nuclear arsenal”:
Along with the briefcase with nuclear codes, the president of the country is given a special ‘top secret’ folder. This folder in its entirety contains information about aliens who visited our planet… Along with this, you are given a report of the absolutely secret special service that exercises control over aliens on the territory of our country… More detailed information on this topic you can get from a well-known movie called Men In Black… I will not tell you how many of them are among us because it may cause panic.

Earlier this week, Stephen Bassett, the executive director of the Paradigm Research Group International (PRG) and the first ET and UFO disclosure lobbyist in the U.S., revealed that he met in May with former Soviet and Russian military and agency officials who are now involved in that country’s UFO and alien disclosure movement in an attempt to convince Vladimir Putin to become the first world leader to acknowledge the existence of UFOs and extraterrestrials.
Does this add more and bigger dots to the picture? Is Vladimir Putin (and earlier, Dmitry Medvedev) being taken out of context or is he slowly and slyly preparing the world for a big revelation?
Will the Men in Black stop him or are they too busy in Washington?
That’s the question asked by Enrico Fermi after pondering why Earth hasn’t been visited by aliens (in his estimation) despite the fact that there are billions of stars with a high probability that some have Earthlike planets that could develop life forms capable of space travel … the Fermi paradox.
Maybe we are not seeing alien civilizations because they are all rationally “sleeping” in the current early cosmological era, waiting for a remote future when it is more favourable to exploit the resources of the universe.
That’s the “Aestivation hypothesis” proposed by Anders Sandberg, Stuart Armstrong, and Milan Ćirković from the University of Oxford in their new paper accepted for publication in the Journal of the British Interplanetary Society. Aesti-what?
Aestivation is a state of dormancy similar to hibernation but brought on not by winter but by summer and its high temperatures and arid conditions. Creatures that enter states of aestivation include land snails, lady beetles (ladybugs), land crabs, desert tortoises, crocodiles and salamanders. But aliens? While a state of hibernation or suspended animation would obviously help survive long space flights, why would they need to aestivate otherwise?
In his personal blog, Anders Sandberg explains that it’s all about energy. The more a species needs to process information to accomplish big things like building spaceships and exploring the galaxies, the more energy they consume. Energy produces heat and too much energy causes things – both living and mechanical — to overheat, break down, malfunction or die. Like computers, running cooler means running longer and more efficiently.
Can’t space travelers figure out how to build better air conditioners? Probably, but their dealing with more than planetary or spaceship heat. According to Sandberg, the cosmic background radiation in the universe makes everything in it hotter than 3 Kelvin – not scorching (-269C or -452F) but hot enough to cause problems. Fortunately, cosmic background radiation is going down as the universe expands. So all an advanced alien civilization needs to do is wait till things cool down. The best way for living things like reptiles and reptilians to ride out the heat is by aestivation. As long as they leave some lights on and some low-level energy to keep their data stored and their equipment in shape, things should be fine for a few million years.

Does this solve the Fermi Paradox?
If this is correct, there might be old and powerful civilizations around that are hard to observe, not because they are deliberately hiding but because they are inactive for the time being.
Sandberg thinks this is not an answer but a new possibility worth investigating. That could be difficult since a civilization in aestivation is not generating any energy so it’s nearly invisible. One option Sandberg proposes is to send out self-replicating von Neumann probes. Aliens in aestivation would need to set up some sort of protection and a probe breaching it would probably generate visible energy as it was destroyed. Not elegant and it depends on technology not yet developed, but it’s a possibility nonetheless.

De Russische president Vladimir Poetin kan geschiedenis schrijven door aan te kondigen dat aliens bestaan en de aarde al hebben bezocht. Dat stelt een Amerikaanse lobbyist.
Stephen Bassett van de Paradigm Research Group verbleef een week lang in Rusland om Poetin ervan te overtuigen het ‘waarheidsembargo’ op informatie over aliens op te heffen.
Bassett, die al jarenlang lobbyt in Washington voor alien disclosure, meent dat de waarheid over aliens wordt achtergehouden uit angst voor de impact ervan op religie en de samenleving.
Formele aankondiging
Hij werd tijdens zijn bezoek aan Rusland geïnterviewd voor een Russische documentaire over dit onderwerp.
Tijdens het interview, dat in augustus wordt uitgezonden, stipte Bassett verschillende punten aan die Poetin er mogelijk toe zullen zetten om als eerste staatshoofd een formele aankondiging te doen over buitenaards leven.
Hij ontmoette in Rusland ook verschillende militaire en inlichtingenfunctionarissen die betrokken zijn bij alien disclosure.

Een samenwerkingsverband van meteorologen die gebruikmaken van satellietbeelden (CIMSS) hebben voor de derde keer op rij een vreemde ontdekking gedaan.
Vanuit het gebied waarover men zegt dat er zich op Antarctica piramides bevinden, komt een sterke mysterieuze microgolf die zich langs de Zuid Amerikaanse kust verplaatst.
En nu, voor de derde keer in korte tijd, ontdekte men een derde mysterieuze (energie)golf op 26 mei 2017.
Niet alleen neemt de frequentie tussen de golven toe, ze volgen elkaar sneller op, maar ook iedere keer schijnt het afkomstig te zijn uit hetzelfde gebied op Antarctica.
Wanneer je een lijn trekt, dan loopt deze langs het Princess Elisabeth Station naar het gebied waar eind vorig jaar een aantal piramides werden ontdekt.
De vreemde golf komt ergens vanuit dat gebied en dat zou het Elisabeth Station kunnen zijn, maar als dat zo was, dan was het ook geen mysterie geweest. En als het daar niet vandaan komt, dan moet er een andere bron niet ver daar vandaan zijn.
Iets dat door de mainstream wetenschap nooit zal worden geaccepteerd of toegegeven, is dat piramides een hele andere functie hebben dan het begraven van een Egyptische farao.
Dat het navigatiebakens waren van onze verre voorouders, de Anunnaki, die nu samen met hun planeet Nibiru op de terugweg zijn.
Overal ter wereld zien we het verschijnsel dat piramides worden geactiveerd en lichtsignalen de ruimte in sturen, zoals weeerder schreven.
Wij leven, ondanks alle ellende op de wereld, in opwindende tijden die je allesbehalve saai kunt noemen.
De eerste is een opname vanaf de Bosnische piramide van de Zon.
De volgende is een opname van 24 juni 2009 toen iemand een foto nam van ChiChen Itza piramide, eveneens in Mexico. Deze straal was niet zichtbaar toen de foto werd genomen, maar werd pas later waargenomen toen de afdruk werd bekeken.
De volgende en laatste opname is al wat ouder en genomen in 2000. Ook hier een merkwaardige energie/lichtstraal afkomstig van de Piramide van de Maan, wederom in Mexico.

Zelfs een mainstream kanaal als de NOS weet te melden dat er een piek is in het aantal UFO meldingen in Nederland.
Alhoewel ze heel erg hun best doen om dingen zoveel mogelijk “logisch" te verklaren, lukt dat niet zo erg en onze lezers zien ondertussen opmerkelijke zaken in de lucht.
Zoals we gisteren schreven, is het opmerkelijk dat mainstream kanalen zoals de BBC aandacht besteden aan het UFO fenomeen zonder het direct belachelijk te maken, iets dat in het verleden vaste prik was.
Nu hebben we in Nederland de NOS die er zelfs een serieus artikel aan waagt. Dit weliswaar met de insteek dat er voor de meeste waarnemingen een rationele verklaring is, maar toch.
Dat het aantal mensen dat UFO’s ziet vliegen in ons land toeneemt, geloven we wel, want er verschijnen de laatste wekeninteressante waarnemingen.
Zoals een bijzondere boven Almelo enkele dagen geleden. In het begin lijkt de video wat saai, maar blijf kijken, want het wordt steeds spannender.
Er is op dit moment wereldwijd een ware stortvloed van meldingen van kleine ronde witte, oranje of zelfs blauwe UFO’s. Deze komen ergens vandaan, ze worden aangestuurd en hebben ergens een basis.
Zoals bijvoorbeeld de volgende, enkele dagen geleden gemaakt in Iran.
Iets dat steeds meer mensen, ook in ons land, begint op te vallen, zijn de vreemde wolkenformaties. Wolken die dikwijls lijken op grote verborgen (het zogenaamde cloaken) moederschepen.
Zo ontvingen wij bijvoorbeeld de volgende twee foto’s die zijn genomen in het westen van het land tussen Beverwijk en Nauerna.
De lezer (dank!) schrijft:
Gisteren reed ik in de auto richting huis,mijn vriendin zegt plotseling kijk wat een vreemde wolken. Dus ik dacht ze zal het wel over de chemtrails hebben. Ik kijk in de lucht en zie tot mijn verbazing een hoop chemtrails en deze vreemde wolken. Hebben we hier te maken met vermomde (cloaking) ufo's?
Een andere lezer (dank!) stuurde iets vergelijkbaars, dit keer uit Amsterdam Oost.
Daarnaast nog meldingen van andere mensen die het ook hebben gezien, maar geen foto’s hebben kunnen maken.
Overal dus talloze kleine UFO’s, maar ook verdachte wolken die heel goed vermomde moederschepen kunnen zijn. Nu zal men dit bij de NOS niet zo snel als een mogelijkheid aanvaarden, maar misschien moeten ze dan toch even naar het volgende kijken:
Gelukkig bezitten we al enkele jaren bewijs van grote wolken zoals in bovenstaande afbeeldingen, van waaruit kleine UFO’s tevoorschijn komen.
Het antwoord lijkt te zien in de volgende video die is gemaakt in de Atacama woestijn in de buurt van de Chileense stad Calama.
Twee mijnarbeiders rijden in een auto en zien vreemde wolkformaties in de lucht. Eén van hen pakt zijn mobiele telefoon en begint te filmen.
Dan plotseling komt er uit deze wolk of wellicht moederschip een bij ons welbekende oranje-achtige bol tevoorschijn.
In de onderstaande video kun je duidelijk zien hoe deze bol tevoorschijn komt uit de wolk en vervolgens wegvliegt.
Hebben we hier te maken met een zogenaamd cloaked moederschip dat zich verborgen houdt in deze kunstmatig aandoende wolken en die de bollen als een soort verkenners op pad stuurt?
Het heeft er alle schijn van en daarmee is deze opname misschien wel het eerste stukje bewijs dat we in handen hebben wat laat zien waar deze oranje bollen vandaan komen.
Uiteraard ontstaan er dan altijd weer discussies of deze opname wel of niet echt is. Tot nu is er, voor zover ons bekend, geen informatie over dat de opname niet echt zou zijn.
Daarnaast hebben we getuigenverklaringen van mensen zoals de volgende van een dame uit Friesland, van enkele jaren geleden.
"Het is dinsdagavond 7 oktober en om 20.30 stap ik op de fiets vanuit Lytse Geast,(een dorpje een kleine tien kilometer ten zuid-oosten van Leeuwarden).
Mijn weg voert door de weilanden over een afgelegen pad en als het even kan zorg ik er voor dat ik niet in mijn eentje in het donker nog op pad ben. Vandaag ben ik al te laat en de laatste schemering gaat al over in duister.
Ik ben nog maar net buiten, of het begint te regenen en hard te waaien. Schuin voor me zie ik een paar flitsen, en het rommelt in de verte, precies tussen mij en Leeuwarden, waar ik naar op weg ben. Onweer dus, ook dat nog.
Voor me is een brede, langgerekte, vrij laag hangende wolk. Dat is waar ik de hemel op zie lichten. Er komen witte bollen uit de wolk. Twee gaan naar links en twee gaan naar rechts. De afstand van de ene bol tot de andere blijft steeds gelijk, alsof ze met een touwtje aan elkaar vast zitten. Ze bewegen langzaam.
Ik weet niet, wat het is, dat ik zie... zijn dit vliegtuigen? van de basis? En waarom zijn die geïnteresseerd in een onweerswolk? Ja, het zijn vast vliegtuigen. Het licht pulseert ook, zoals bij een vliegtuig. Flits aan, flits uit. Ja maar, bij een vliegtuig zie je dan altijd ook een rood licht aan en uit flitsen. dat is hier niet. Alleen wit. Melkwit.
De twee bollen rechts zijn verdwenen, die van links zijn opeens weer terug boven de wolk. Verbeeld ik me nu dat ze sneller pulseren dan zo net? Nee, dat verbeeld ik me niet. Het lijken wel sterren en het licht is niet meer zozeer wit, als wel koud. Zoals bij sterretjes voor kleine kinderen. Het zijn nu dus geen witte bollen meer, maar steeds sneller aan- en uit flitsende 'sterren'.
Dan zijn ze weg. Een paar minuten is er niks meer te zien en dan opeens zijn er wel twintig. Allemaal onder, boven, naast of uit de wolk. En allemaal flitsen ze aan en uit, nu in een heel hoog tempo. In een ijzig wit licht dat zo fel is dat het mij verblindt. Je zou zeggen dat ze er plezier aan beleven, zoals ze om en door de wolk heen duiken. Er in, er uit, om de wolk heen, achter elkaar aan... Net zo plotseling als ze verschenen zijn ze nu weer weg.
En komen niet meer terug. En ik ben bijna bij de eerste huizen van de stad. Het regent niet meer en de wind gaat ook liggen. Hoe lang dit al met al geduurd heeft? Twintig minuten à hooguit een half uur. Ik kan me niet voorstellen, dat er niet meer mensen geweest zijn die dit gezien hebben. Er was echt een hele lichtshow in de lucht.
Wat me achteraf ook nog wel frappeert, is dat er eigenlijk alleen die ene enorm grote wolk was, verder was er vrijwel geen bewolking.

On 17 August 1965 a 'detonation noise' rocked houses before a 'monstrous orange flame was seen in the sky, crackling and hissing'.
The phenomena was known as the 'Warminster Thing' and in the decades after residents reported seeing lots of inexplicable things in the sky.

In 1967 a man driving past Cley Hill heard a loud-pitched noise above and a glowing white disc in the sky.
In 1975 a man reported his car malfunctioning after seeing a bright red light above.

The video, taken by a resident from Frome, shows streaks of light over nearby Cley hill which is 2 miles from UFO town Warminster.
The footage, which lasts a few minutes, shows the peculiar light moving in circular directions in the night sky.
'I took this video from my house in Frome last night. It was over the Cley Hill area I think, which is always a hotspot for UFOs', the resident who took the video told Somerset Live.
'Probably a drone with a fancy flame effect tail or something. It's been spotted a few times locally', the resident said.
Nigel Viel, a local rambler added: 'Some experts have gone as far as to describe the nearby town of Warminster as Britain's UFO capital on account of a phenomena first encountered in the mid-1960s.'

'At the risk of people saying I'm still secretly working for the government, debunking UFO sightings, I'm going to suggest this is a light aircraft - or perhaps a drone - carrying out some sort of spectacular, acrobatic flying display', Nick Pope, former UFO investigator to the Ministry of Defence, told MailOnline.

In July 1947 Sheriff Jess Slaughter and Deputy Sheriff Charles Fogus were travelling together to pick up a prisoner when they heard on their police radio reports of a crashed aircraft.
The two men, who were travelling to Roswell, New Mexico, decided to investigate and stumbled across the scene of one of the most famous UFO incidents in history.
While the US military have long claimed the crashed object was merely a weather balloon, conspiracy theorists believe the site was the scene of at least one alien aircraft crash and the recovery of extraterrestrials.
In a new book, UFOs TODAY – 70 Years of Lies, Misinformation and Government Cover-Up, law enforcement officer Fogus reveals he saw a downed flying saucer and military personnel removing a number of alien bodies from the scene.
It is the first time his statement has been published.

In the interview he says he say a flying saucer crashed into the side of a river bed which was "100ft across".
Describing the scene he said: "When we got there, the land was covered with soldiers. They were hauling a big, a creature.
"The bodies must have been 5 feet tall.
"I saw the legs and feet on some of them. They looked like our feet.
"The skin was a brownish color…. Like they were in the sun too long.
"There were soldiers there….about 3 or 4 hundred of them.
"We seen them haul them (the bodies) out there, out of the canyon up to the trucks….puttin them on the tow trucks so they could haul them."

He says after about 20 minutes they were told to leave the scene and so continued on their journey to collect the prisoner.

Asked what he thought of what he saw, he said: "The Great Father didn’t just make this planet…. He made all of them. He put beings on these planets just like he put us on this one. They’re smarter then we are.
"They can get from there to here, but we can’t get from here to there."
The Daily Mirror has been passed a transcript of an interview between Deputy Sheriff Fogus of Howard County, Texas, and Los Angeles private investigator Deanna Short by the book publisher Philip Mantle, a former Director of Investigations for the British UFO Research Association.
He said: "Deanna recorded the interview on video and later had a transcript done of the interview and completed her Agency report to verify facts at that time related to Charles Forgus and Sheriff Jess Slaughter - both of Howard County, Texas.

"Both were there and were on an overlook to view the crash scene recovery by the Army.
"I should note that according to Deanna's daughter Mackenzie, Charles made a special effort to note to Deanna "not to believe what others will say - he and the Sheriff did witness the Roswell crash scene". They had heard about the crash on the police radio which enabled them to find the location.
"It is rare that anyone new adds anything to the Roswell event from an eye witness point of view.
"If you treat the Roswell UFO crash as a 'cold case' investigation then new testimony like this can be invaluable.
"It could confirm what other witnesses have previously said or it could be another potential witness that has been eliminated from the enquiry.
"So either way it is an invaluable piece of information. To have it on video as well is a real luxury. I remain open minded on this gentleman's testimony but we hope that by making it public that others might be able to assist us in our investigations.
"I dare say many of those that know far more than me about the Roswell Incident will write it off as it does not fit the known Roswell crash scenario.
"All I will say is that I am working to try and find any more information and I leave this ‘Roswell File’ open. If anyone reading this has any information concerning the Roswell Incident we urge them to get in touch."

Questioner: What I’m trying to do is pierce together……
CF: I was working for the Sheriff of. I was a Deputy there for Sheriff Slaughter, was back in the 40s. We went to Roswell to pick up a prisoner. When we got there, the land was covered with soldiers. They were hauling a big, a creature. Hauling him away.
What I seen of him looked just like the one we see on television, with big eyes. There was a big round thing in the canyon. It was about 100 feet across. They put that on a truck and hauled it away. They wouldn’t let us get very close to it either. So we headed up to get the prisoner in Roswell and back to.
Q: So you were on your way from to Roswell to pick up a prisoner and you happened to be at that place……
CF: It already had crashed. They were taking them out. There were soldiers there….about 3 or 4 hundred of them. They wouldn’t let you get very close. They were keeping all the people away. People were coming out there.
Q: What did the saucer (we’ll call it) look like?
CF: It was a big round thing. Across the middle it was about 100 feet.

CF: No, they went out when it banged into the wall in the creek. It was like a mountain on the side of the creek.
Q: Did you see any creatures: How many did you see?
CF: Yeh, I saw them. I think I seen about four (of them).

CF: Mostly. I saw the legs and feet on some of them.
Q: What did the feet look like? Do you remember?
CF: They looked like our feet.
Q: Could you figure how tall they were? They were laying flat, Right?
CF: Yeh, There is one thing I do remember. The Great Father didn’t just make this planet…. He made all of them. He put beings on these planets just like he put us on this one. They’re smarter then we are. They can get from there to here, but we can’t get from here to there.

Q: Why do you think they’re here then?
CF: I don’t know where they hauled them. They might have hauled them to the hospital or somewhere.
Q: How long were you and Sheriff Slaughter at that site after you arrived?
CF: About 30 Minutes?
Q: Did you tell anyone about it?
CF: The Army was there and military soldiers were there.

CF: No, they didn’t tell me nothing’. They wouldn’t let you get close to ‘em.
Q: Did they actually see you observing what was going on?
CF: Sure, they saw me lookin’ at them.

CF: No, They wouldn’t let us get close to them. We were about 10 away.
Q: You were that close?
CF: We might have been further away. I didn’t have glasses then, I could see pretty good.

CF: I was a Deputy The County Seat was I was riding with the Sheriff when we went to get the prisoner.
He didn’t order nobody except me to go with him. The UFO was already down when we got there. We went and got the prisoner afterwards. We heard about it on the radio.
Q: What did you hear on the radio?

Q: But they didn’t know what ‘the thing’ was?
CF: No. But you would think that when people hear something like this, it scares the heck out of them. This came out of the police radio. We were on the way through there (to pick up the prisoner) when we heard it on the police radio. It was a big distance from to Roswell...you can look on a map and see it.
Q: So let me ask you this. When you guys were driving down the road and you were listening to the police radio……
CF: Yeh.....

Q: Do you remember what was said on the radio about whatever it was... Do you recall?
CF: All I remember is they said that a saucer crashed out there in the canyon.
Q: They actually said the word ‘saucer’?
CF: They can call it a saucer if they want to but there ain’t a big enough cup of coffee for that thing.
Q: How long do you think you were at the site?
CF: Probably about 20 minutes. We seen them haul them (the bodies) out there, out of the canyon up to the trucks….puttin them on the tow trucks so they could haul them.
Q: Did anyone try to get you to leave the scene.
CF: No….they told the Sheriff that we had to go. That was good enough for us….He’s the boss.
Q: When they were taking the beings, we'll call them beings, were the beings laying on the ground around the saucer?

CF: Yeh, they were lifting them up with a crane that they had and picking them up and swinging them to put them on the truck. The bodies must have been 5 feet tall.
Q: Did you see the heads?
CF: Yeh….they were covered. They eyes looked like the ones we see on television and the pictures of them.
Q: What color was the skin?
CF: As much as I could tell….the skin was a brownish color…. Like they were in the sun too long.
Q: From the time it crashed until the time you got there, do you know how much time went by? From the time you heard it on the police radio until you got there?
CF: About two hours.
Q: Did you see any writing or engraving on the saucer?
CF: I wasn’t that close to it?

Q: If you were say 12 feet away from the beings, how far were the beings away from the saucer. Were they thrown pretty far?
CF; We couldn’t see that well because of the trees. It was in a riverbank. It slammed into a river bank. I say them lifting one up with the crane.
Q: Did anyone else talk to you about what was going on?
CF: There were some solders, but I don’t think they were from the Air Force.
Q: Where do you think they were from then?
CF: I don’t know. They were wearing uniforms. I didn’t pay no attention cause I just wanted to go with the Sheriff to get the heck out of there before something happened.
Q: When you guys were in the car to go pick the guy up, did you discuss or talk about what you had seen with the Sheriff?

CF: No. I didn’t know what they were and he didn’t either or where they came from or nothin.
Q: Did you see any blood on the bodies?
CF: I don’t know…. I guess they were dead.
Q: You’re 81 years old now. When and where were you born?
CF: I was born in I don’t know what city.
Q: You have been in the army?
CF: I sure have, before I became a Deputy Sheriff.
Q: So when this thing at Roswell happened, you were already out of the Army and were a Deputy Sheriff. That happened in 1947. Now it’s 1999. That was 52 years ago, Charlie. And you still remember it clearly?

CF: Yeh, pretty clear.
Q: Has anyone ever talked to you or asked you to talk about what happened...like to the Government, cause there’s a lot of research going on now because of the cover-up.
CF: There was one that came around, and I told him to shut up and not come around. I don’t know who they were. That was when I was Deputy Sheriff.
Q: When you saw the saucer, can you remember in your mind what it looked like. Can you draw it?
CF: No….you draw it?

Q: Were you standing above it?
CF: I was standing on the back side. The saucer hit the bank on this side of the creek and I was standing on the other side of the bank, at the top of the hill. I was looking down at the site.
Q: So you had a ‘bird’s eye view‘, that’s why you were able to see the top of it?
CF: I didn’t have a ‘bird’s eye, I’ve got my own eyes (he laughs)

Q: So, that’s why you saw the top (of the saucer). And you say, that from here to here (across the top of the saucer - diameter) is about 100 feet.
CF: It was evenly round.

Q: So it was absolutely round…. Not oval shaped and you were 20 feet above it, that’s why you saw the top. Did you see the fingers and hands?
CF: No, they were covered up. But I saw the head.
Q: But you said you saw the feet.
CF: Yeah, later on, when they were passing by I saw the feet. I could see them lifting it up with the crane. They wouldn’t let you close enough when they were puttin’ them into the truck. When they were liftin' them on the crane you could see them layin’ on that thing.
Q: You said the body was covered. Were the arms layin on the stomach under the cover?
CF: When the wind blew, the cover went back so you could see the face. The same way with the feet.
The man, who is not named in the film, makes the bombshell claims in new documentary Unacknowledged.
He describes he and the president discussing a newspaper article that mentioned UFOs in the early 1960s.
The pilot says the president asked him if he thought UFOs and aliens existed.

The anticipated documentary Unacknowledged claims to expose the US government’s cover-ups about alien visits to Earth.
The UFO book that seems to be gathering interest and momentum at the moment is ‘UFOs TODAY – 70 Years of Lies, Misinformation and Government Cover-Up’ so I have taken this opportunity to interview the book’s author, Irena Scott PhD. 2017 will see the 70th anniversary of flying saucers and debate has raged on ever since and there seems no sign of it stopping anytime soon.
PM: Please tell us something about your background. Who is Irena Scott PhD?
I have a PhD, have had a professorship and have worked in scientific research for most of my life. My life began on an Ohio farm. We lived under quite primitive conditions, such as farming with horses. This background enables me to consider things from both a heartland farmer and a scientific viewpoint. Despite our lack of books and media, I became interested in astronomy at a very young age. I worked my way through college with an astronomy major, but found that I couldn’t be employed in that field because it was male-only in those days (which also enabled me to see scientists as less logical than normally presented). So, I went into one of the closest fields that females were allowed in, satellite photography. I worked at the Aerospace Center in St. Louis, Missouri, where they sent me to six months of cartography school, which was equal to a master’s degree. I later transferred to the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) in Washington D.C. in the field of photointerpretation and photogrammetry. Here I received some of the highest clearances in the government and learned not only about this field, but also government secrecy and cover-up, and now think the government has much more ability to cover-up than people expect.
Later I married and moved to Nevada, because my husband had a position there after a previous position that included working in Area 51. I began working for the University of Nevada, earned free tuition, and later transferred and received a PhD from the University of Missouri School of Veterinary Medicine in physiology (a combination of chemistry and biology). After doing post-doctoral research at Cornell University, I became an Assistant Professor at St. Bonaventure University. Other positions included research and teaching at The Ohio State University, the University of Missouri, and at Battelle Memorial Institute (Battelle). I have also been a volunteer astronomer at the former Ohio State University Radio Observatory, been stationed at Wright Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB), and have taken flying lessons.
I have a variety of publications including books, research published in scientific journals, and in newspapers and magazines–such as having been a correspondent for Popular Mechanics magazine with byline articles and photographs in the science and technology sections. My listings as a scientist include: Who’s Who in the World, Who’s Who in the Midwest, and Who’s Who in Frontier Science and Technology. One of my recent books, Uncle: My Journey with John Purdue published by the Purdue University Press, is on a historical subject.
In the 1990s, I joined several UFO groups. I served on the MUFON Board of Directors (1993 to 2000), was a MUFON consultant in physiology and astronomy and a field investigator for both MUFON and the Center for UFO Studies. I co-edited eight MUFON symposium proceedings, have been a State Section Director for Ohio MUFON, was a founding member of the Mid-Ohio Research Associates (MORA) and its journal editor, and have published UFO material in books and magazines–including scientific journals. As an investigator, I conducted many studies and in these I met numerous fascinating people with amazing accounts.
PM: How and when did you first become interested in the UFO phenomenon?
I have always slightly paid attention to the subject because of a number of events that happened in my family from an early time. For one example, an aunt in West Virginia would write letters to my mother describing UFO events. Some events happened even before we had heard of UFOs–in one case, an aunt in West Virginia talked about small glowing objects that sometimes flew through their house. However my parents were conservative, Middle–American, farmers and did not allow us to even speak about the subject, thus, any interest was repressed. This made me a little sensitive to the idea of government cover-up, also.
I was also quite fortunate in the places I lived – such as Ohio, Nevada, and Washington DC – have been heavily involved in the UFO scene. For example, in Ohio are WPAFB and Battelle where the best-known studies took place. The DIA has been important in UFO study and some think that is the agency that began to investigate UFOs after Project Blue Book was closed.
PM: Have you ever had a personal UFO sighting at all?
Several events have drawn my attention. For one, I sometimes visited people who lived in the Davis Mountains in Texas that overlooked Marfa, which is known for the Marfa Lights. One night I saw and videotaped for about half an hour a large bright light over the town of Marfa that would turn on and off. Later I called the airport and they had nothing to report, but they would have been closed that late at night.
In another instance, while living in Missouri, my Mother in Ohio called to ask if I had just heard a strange sound. I thought this was quite odd and asked if my parents had just developed dementia. Later when I moved back to Ohio, I found information about this October 11, 1973 event. Not only had there been a strange noise, but a sudden wave of UFO reports happening at the same time. With the help of the State of Ohio seismologist Mike Hansen, I studied the noise. It was extremely widespread and much larger than a sonic boom or similar event. I was able to publish information about this sound in a peer-reviewed scientific journal (“Investigation of a Sound Heard over a Wide Area,” Ohio Journal Science 87(2), 1987: 11). I still don’t know what caused the sound. I also wondered why my parents had the strange mental reaction to it and wondered if others did.
PM: Has being an academic helped you in your research of the UFO phenomenon?
Yes, for example a Battelle co-worker and I were the first to show smoking gun evidence that UFO materials research may have taken place there. I also make some smoking gun discoveries while working in other places, for example at the DIA and at WPAFB. Being in the scientific field has made this possible. I worked in several of the institutions that were the most involved in UFO research, the DIA, Battelle, and WPAFB.
Being an academic has helped me in other ways. For example, I have been able to publish pieces about UFOs in scientific journals, and think this helps to establish the credibility of UFO study. I’ve spent much time interviewing not only witnesses, but people at random. In one case, after a sighting had been reported in the newspapers, I began to interview other people in that general location and published the results, “Survey of Unidentified Aerial Phenomenon Reports in Delaware County, Ohio.” Ohio Journal of Science 87.1 (1987): 24-26. One impressive result was that there appeared to be many more possible sightings than reports. Unfortunately, because of the difficulty of reporting these events, UFOlogy has been slow to advance and is still the subject of ridicule.
In addition, having training in statistics and experimental methods, I am able to evaluate the scientific experiments that have been done. It has helped me in interviewing witnesses, because I can ask questions that might be useful in scientific understanding. It makes me more aware of what might be called hard evidence and how to collect it, also.
PM: Could you explain how your new book UFOs TODAY first came about.
I joined several UFO groups in the 1990s and began to investigate sightings. I also became an editor of such publications as the MUFON symposium proceedings, and a local publication, the Ohio UFO Notebook. My field investigations gave me more of a perspective on UFOlogy than I would have from simply reading books. I discovered that the sightings that contained the most detail, often did not necessarily match the general idea of flying saucers as disc shaped craft. There were all kinds of unusual sightings, which along with my childhood exposure to the subject, made me think that the phenomena is much more complex than generally presented. I reported on many of these odd instances, thus, I already had them written up. Later the idea of writing a book struck me.
PM: Whilst compiling your research for your new book is there any one piece of evidence that for you really stands out?
Some of the most amazing to me have been ones that included interaction and ones such as lengthy events where authorities were notified, came, and even took part in the sightings. The authorities were often as mystified as the observers. For example, one sighting near Logan, Ohio, was of objects above a cornfield. These would blink on and off and move around. They were interactive with people. One followed a car. Authorities were notified, the event was reported on newscasts and TV, and police and other people came out to watch. Airplanes began to fly over in a grid pattern, although no one knew where they came from–the agency didn’t contact anyone. The objects remained interactive and one flew up to an airplane. A second sighting occurred the very night after another investigator and I had interviewed the witnesses.
Others have been abduction events, such as several that were linked with the October 11, 1973, sound that I investigated.

PM: What do you say to those that remain skeptical with regards to the UFO subject?
The term UFO carries considerable baggage. People generally link it with little green or gray men in space ships, or even the Loch Ness Monster. People ask each other whether they believe in it. This is because in general the idea is associated with alien visitation; people are asking whether they believe UFOs come from space. However the phenomena actually consists of many credible empirical observations such as of balls of light that can change to different forms; objects that appear and disappear, go through walls, merge and separate; and groups of lights that come together to form humanoid appearing entities. Others include objects of incredible size and speed, poltergeist-like activity, large and small UFOs, magnetic and radiation effects, abduction phenomena, thought control, and telepathy, for a few. Because of this, the phenomenon often doesn’t fit the profile of pilots and space ships, but of something vastly different from us. Such observations suggest that this data also might be investigated using different paradigms than our nuts and bolts ideas of space ships, such as by using quantum mechanical theories, or the idea that the phenomena might not be molecular as we are, or other ideas. I think new ways and different paradigms of science are needed to study it.
Another reason for the skepticism is that government has deliberately created it. Not only does it cover up, but it appears to use brainwashing techniques that produce skepticism rather than scientific examination. For example, there is some evidence that in even the very earliest reports some form of cover-up may have been active. The government has manipulated the results scientific studies, such as the one done by Battelle, to show that they found noting when in fact they did. In other cases it has set up panels that purported to scientifically examine the subject, but instead used them to debunk the phenomena, such as those of Robertson and Condon. It has actively set up debunking campaigns to plant outlandish UFO claims in the media to make UFO reports sound ridiculous. The Condon Report summary cautioned teachers to discourage any interest of pupils in UFOs, because such study would be harmful to their development. So if UFOs do not exist, how would an interest in them harm pupils and why should pupils be brainwashed? Why expend large amounts of money to lie and cover-up the phenomena, if it doesn’t exist. Such activities would certainly help the UFO phenomena by causing people to not take it seriously, thus helping it to hide its activities. In addition, UFO phenomena may be quite complex, thus one even wonders exactly what governments are covering up.
PM: In your opinion, how do we keep moving forward with UFO research?
I think numerous observations indicate this important phenomenon is much more complex that just space ships. I think it would be well to have statisticians go over the best UFO event data with the best developments in statistics to see what treads, or even significant results, can be found. I also think that as knowledge of people’s family trees and genetic studies are improving that one might search to see if there are any genetic similarities in people having sightings. Also people may not really understand what the phenomena is and that it might be much more complex that space ships from other worlds. Thus, I think that examining it for proof that we have visitors from space, or studying the propulsion systems and that sort of thing may not be as valuable as thought. For example, in both scientific experiments and in many reports there are mental aspects that are very difficult to understand. I think people need ways to study this element. I also think that people are interpreting the phenomena using Newtonian physics ideas, but need to study the possibility that the quantum theory elements may be involved in the phenomena. Other methods might be those of Dr. Harley Rutledge, who set up a study area with observing stations in an area of many sightings. His design may have resulted in the best scientific study ever done. He was even able to examine interactive behavior. Moreover, numerous reports have shown that the phenomenon is interactive, or even seems to put on a show, but witnesses in general are not directly contacted. This should also be studied.

One of the most controversial aspects of this book has of course been the testimony of former US Deputy Sheriff Charles Forgus (deceased). He claims that he was a witness to the UFO crash at Roswell in 1947. There is no way this can be verified of course and his testimony is simply being put into the public domain for further scrutiny. In my opinion the author is to be congratulated on treating such possibly controversial testimony in an open and honest way. Obviously efforts are continuing to try and obtain more information about Charles Forgus and his testimony with a variety of researchers involved and organizations on both sides of the Atlantic. It will be interesting to see what they uncover.
Although the space programs of Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos garner much of the news regarding the privatization of space, Las Vegas real estate mogul Robert Bigelow is another important eccentric billionaire who has entered the scene. He has gotten a moderate amount of publicity throughout the years, in comparison to his colleagues, but an interesting fact about Bigelow the others do not have is that he is also a UFO enthusiast. Bigelow has never shied away of questions regarding his paranormal interests, and he was not shy about answering 60 Minutes’ Lara Logan’s questions on UFOs in an interview last Sunday.

The 60 Minutes interview was focused on Bigelow’s efforts in the space industry, but UFOs came up, and Bigelow was not fazed. The short UFO segment went like this…
Logan: “Do you believe in aliens?”
Bigelow: “I’m absolutely convinced. That’s all there is to it.”
Logan: “Do you also believe that UFOs have come to Earth?”
Bigelow: “There has been and is an existing presence, an ET presence. And I spent millions and millions and millions ― I probably spent more as an individual than anybody else in the United States has ever spent on this subject.”
Logan: “Is it risky for you to say in public that you believe in UFOs and aliens?”
Bigelow: “I don’t give a damn. I don’t care.”
Logan: “You don’t worry that some people will say, ‘Did you hear that guy, he sounds like he’s crazy’?”
Bigelow: “I don’t care. It’s not gonna make a difference. It’s not gonna change reality of what I know.”
Bigelow’s interests in space travel and UFOs seem to go hand in hand. This is something I can relate to, because I feel my dreams of traveling in space have spurred my interest in UFOs as well. In an interview in Bloomberg in 2013, Bigelow says it was in 1999 that he decided it was time to act on his interests in space.
“I had some money to work with, and I felt that the clock had already ticked along quite a ways, and if I were gonna do something, I’d better fish or cut bait,” Bigelow told Bloomberg.

During his research for the best approach to get involved, Bigelow discovered a NASA program called TransHab that was on the verge of losing funding. TransHab was an inflatable base for Mars that would serve as a habitat for astronauts.
A NASA administrator tried to save the TransHab project by shopping it around to private corporations. Bigelow attended these meetings. “I had no employees at that time. I was just there as me,” he told Bloomberg.
None of the corporations showed interest, but Bigelow loved the concept. That is when he formed Bigelow Aerospace, bought 50 acres of land in an industrial park in Las Vegas and hired some engineers. Now, 18 years later, Bigelow Aerospace has an inflatable habitat attached to the International Space Station.
It is an exciting story, made even more exciting, at least for me, given Bigelow’s history in the study of anomalous phenomenon, including UFOs. By the time he had started Bigelow Aerospace, Bigelow had already had years of UFO and paranormal studies under his belt.

Bigelow says the impetus for his fascination with UFOs was a sighting his grandparents had. Bloomberg wrote…
One night in May 1947, his maternal grandparents were driving down the remote Kyle Canyon highway, returning to Las Vegas after a trip to the mountains, when they saw in the sky ahead something they thought was an airplane on fire. But as it drew closer, they realized it was a huge and unidentifiable oval object, glowing bright red; when the terrified couple pulled over to the side of the road, it bore down on them, finally filling their field of vision, before at the last second executing an abrupt 90-degree turn and disappearing. Bigelow heard about the incident years later, from his grandmother; his grandfather never liked to talk about what he’d seen. “He was still bothered by it,” he says, “because they both thought they were going to die that night.
Although Bigelow had an interest in space and the paranormal, the paranormal is where Bigelow applied his vast resources first. In 1995, he founded the National Institute for Discovery Science (NIDS). Similar to how he started Bigelow Aerospace, Bigelow first enlisted a group of scientists, including former astronaut Edgar Mitchell, to help him take a serious look into anomalous phenomenon. His board consisted mostly of PhDs.
NIDS wrote articles and reports on more than just UFOs. Crop circles and mysterious animal mutilations were a couple of examples of other phenomenon they looked into. All of their reports were posted on their website.
One of the most famous investigations conducted by NIDS was of a mysterious ranch in Utah dubbed the “Skinwalker Ranch.” NIDS lead scientist Colm Kelleher and Las Vegas investigative reporter George Knapp wrote the book Hunt for the Skinwalker: Science Confronts the Unexplained at a Remote Ranch in Utah covering the many extraordinary experiences residents and scientists had on the ranch.

Retired Army Intelligence Colonel and defense consultant Dr. John Alexander, a NIDS team member, can be seen in the video below discussing their findings on the ranch.
NIDS closed in 2004. However, that was not the end of Bigelow’s dabbling in UFO research. He quietly moved this work over to Bigelow Aerospace. He established Bigelow Aerospace Advanced Space Studies (BAASS). BAASS made connections with the FAA, who claims to not be interested in taking UFO reports, so pilots could send their reports to BAASS.
BAASS also attempted to partner with the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON), the largest civilian UFO investigation group and other organizations. I say attempted, because the relationship was short lived.
You would think that UFO researchers would be excited for someone with Bigelow’s resources to invest in UFO research. However, UFOs can be a funny business, full of paranoia and jealousy. As much as serious researchers did appreciate his efforts, others accused Bigelow of stealing and hiding information.
Jesse Ventura’s TV show Conspiracy Theory did an episode trying to expose Bigelow’s alleged UFO cover-ups. I got a call from one of their producers who wanted me on the show. She said she wanted to talk about how Bigelow had secret satellites that were watching people and other silly stories. I told her none of it was true, but that I would be more than happy to talk about his real history in UFO research. Needless to say, I was not included in the show.
One of the conspiracy theories with the most legs is the one about Bigelow trying to steal MUFON data. I have a unique insight into the attempted partnership between MUFON and BAASS, because I was a functional director with MUFON at the time and their official spokesperson.
Put simply, the deal was that BAASS would fund a special investigation group that could be deployed quickly and BAASS would also fund any analysis that would need to be conducted. MUFON was also tasked with supplying sighting information to BAASS. However, and this was clear between all parties, MUFON was in control of the information and investigations.

Although BAASS got information early, they were not given any information that was not also shared with the public. In fact, I had access to that information, and some of those cases and their results are featured on OpenMinds.tv and in Open Minds Magazine. One example is a case in New York in which a vehicle exhibited electromagnetic effects after an incident allegedly involving a UFO.
There were a few areas where things went awry. One issue, which I had expressed concern early on, was due to all of the MUFON directors needing to sign non-disclosure agreements. I advised that we make it public we were signing the disclosure before we did so, but the board did not agree. So I decided not to sign the disclosure. I did not want to be held responsible if some information leaked, and, since I was the spokesperson, I also did not want to have to walk on eggshells when speaking publicly. However, the only information I was not privy to were names.
Scientists and other professionals often do not want to use their names in relation to UFO investigations so as not to risk damaging their reputations. I have to use anonymous sources in stories on OpenMind.tv for that reason at times.
Another issue was MUFON’s slow response times. BAASS often wanted MUFON to deploy investigators more quickly. However, being volunteers, MUFON investigators had to get time off work and deal with other logistics that delayed investigations. In one case, because MUFON investigators were delayed, BAASS was given permission to send people first. This incident started rumors that, like the men in black, BAASS personnel were secretly shaking down UFO witnesses before MUFON could get there. I investigated this thoroughly, and can confidently say this was not the case.

These problems, along with internal disputes, tanked the project.
Either way, having been on the inside, I can say all parties involved attempted to work together in a spirit of furthering UFO research. Personally, I greatly appreciate the work Bigelow has sponsored.
I also appreciate Bigelow’s courage when addressing the UFO issue in his interviews with major media outlets. He does not do UFO interviews often. He has a great relationship with Knapp, whom occasionally hosts the late night radio program Coast to Coast AM. With Knapp as the host, Bigelow has appeared on the program to talk UFOs.
In an interview on Coast to Coast AM in 2013, Knapp asked Bigelow how he felt the topic of UFOs could be taken more seriously. Bigelow replied that he had little faith in the government being the first to speak to the topic. Instead, he identified two other areas where the phenomenon will likely be further exposed. First, the phenomenon exposes itself, and second is that the media could cover the topic more.
“My hats off to the phenomenon for having had so much interaction with pilots and planes, but we still cannot have definability, or get this into the media as an establish fact,” Bigelow explained. “That is amazing. The phenomena itself can do this.”
Obviously, we do not have control to motivate any possible anomalous phenomenon to present itself more publicly. However, we do have access to the media. Bigelow is optimistic about media coverage of UFOs.
Bigelow told Knapp, “Ever since we announced about our craft that will be attached to the space station, every media person who has interviewed me has also asked about UFOs. They are not just trying to character assassinate me, but they are genuinely interested and want to know. That is a good thing and that is why we are seeing a change here.”
Case in point, in the 60 Minutes interview, Bigelow was not ridiculed for his beliefs. Many UFO researchers have been expressing in social media that they feel Bigelow’s comments on 60 Minutes will go a long way in helping the public take the topic seriously.
Only time will tell if his 60 Minutes appearance will make a difference, but one thing the interview does reinforce is the fact that Bigelow’s interest in UFOs has not diminished over the years. It seems the media’s interest in Bigelow is also not going anywhere, which means we are sure to hear a lot more about Bigelow and his space and UFO research efforts.
