Finding space alien life would be undoubtedly one of the greatest achievements in human history. Scientists have been concentrating on the possibility of alien life existence on exoplanets many light years away from Earth. However, one astronomer suggests looking harder for evidence of extraterrestrial life closer to home. Penn State astronomy professor Jason Wright writes in his paper that proof of aliens might be right here in our celestial backyard. For this reason, he suggests shifting our focus from the dark cosmos to our solar system.
Wright urges scientists to consider the theory that extraterrestrial life evidence might be right under our noses. The astronomer explains that leftovers from technological species might be easier to discover than biological evidence, such as microbes. Artifacts or other techno signatures from prior technological species in the Solar System may have survived to present day.
Wright points out Mars and Venus as possible places where intelligent life might have spawned and developed before it had gone extinct or simply left. He goes on to suggest that Earth may be holding secrets of an ancient alien civilization but has since been lost to erosion, plate tectonics, and shifting continents.
Soviet-born American writer Zecharia Sitchin introduced the theory on the existence of ancient aliens in Nibiru, an unseen planet in the Solar System, in his 1976 hit book ‘The 12th Planet.’ The theory states that Annunaki alien race had created the human race. Sitchin claims that Nibiru collided with Tiamat planet that was located between Mars and Jupiter. The collision resulted in the creation of asteroid belt and Earth.
Sitchin believes Annunaki aliens visited Earth to mine gold in Africa thousands of years ago. These advanced aliens needed workers for their mining operations, so they used genetics to create Homo Sapiens.

Incredible video footage of a military jet chasing a UFO (yeah, that’s right, chasing one) right over our heads while out at the infamous Giant Rock in Landers while at this year’s Contact in the Desert (CITD) conference in Joshua Tree Calif. I, Melinda Leslie, was leading my Sunday night, May 21st, Sky Watch with Night Vision Goggle Intensive out at Giant Rock on the 3rd night of viewing events for CITD. Luckily one of my participants, Graham Slater, caught this and many of our other sightings (from all 3 nights no less), with his black and white night vision video camera. His additional footage of some of the other incrdible sightings will be posted at a future date once they are compiled. Here’s a description of the jet chase sighting: At just before 10:00 p.m. (did not note exact time) some of my participants and I saw a large amber colored light low to the horizon just behind Giant Rock from where my whole group of about 50 plus people were gathered and using 15 pair of night vision goggles. A contigenecy of about 20 of us ran to get a better view of it. To the naked eye it appeared to be a large orangish (amber) light, that quoting some of the 20 people; “flew like a bumble bee”. One guest, [name removed/CMS/jpg], came running with a pair of the goggles in hand and got a good look at it. She said that through the goggles it looked like “a large diamond shaped UFO.” She drew a picture of it attached here. This object then flew behind a small hill right behind the entire Sky Watch larger group. As those of us who ran off walked back to join the others, 3 military jets flew over in the direction of the object now gone from sight behind the hill. Some of us commented that “if” “they” were following it, meaning the jets, they were a few minutes too late. Just then we heard the sound of a low flying jet from behind the hill, and suddenly clearing the top of the hill and right over our heads, came a very fast military jet chasing a faster large red glowing light. The military jet had both red and white blinking strobe lights and glowing afterburners and was VERY loud as it flew directly above our heads. The large red light had NO blinking lights and NO sound at all! It became clear to all 50 plus witnesses, this was NO jet!!! Those folks present who looked with the aid of the goggles said they were seeing either 2 lights, or one object with 2 light sources on it. After extensive review of the footage, I am nearly certain it shows 2 UFOs (fast moving lights), flying in perfect locked tandem with one another. It appears you can see stars between them in the background suggesting that these are 2 seperate objects. As is usually the case, this footage while incredible, does not do the sighting justice. The video is in black and white night vision, not full-color naked-eye vision, and does not have any sound, so you are unable to hear the palatable excitement of 50 plus witnesses screaming and cheering.
People recently reported UFO sightings in Arizona and United Kingdom, creating a flurry of excitement online. Have extraterrestrial neighbors decided to make contact? Investigations suggest that the Arizona sightings were of mercury vapor lights and not alien visitors. However, recent sightings above England are not so easily explained away. Due to advances in technology, scientists have been keeping an eye out for signs of alien megastructures. One scientist hypothesizes that, if such a megastructure exists, it would be around a pulsar instead of a star.
During the 1960s, Freeman Dyson and Nikolai Kardashev captured the imaginations of people everywhere by making some radical proposals. Whereas Dyson proposed that intelligent species could eventually create megastructures to harness the energy of their stars, Kardashev offered a three-tiered classification system for intelligent species based on their ability to harness the energy of their planet, solar system, and galaxy, respectively.
With missions that are now capable of locating extra-solar planets (i.e. the Kepler Space Observatory) scientists have been on the lookout for signs of possible alien megastructures. Unfortunately, aside from some very arguable results, no concrete evidence has yet come to light. Lucky for us, in a study from the Free University of Tbilisi, Professor Zaza Osmanov offers some new insight on why megastructures may have eluded us so far.
While fascinating, the idea of alien megastructures invariably suffers from the same problem as all other attempts to find signs of intelligent life in our Universe. Basically, if intelligent life exists, why have we consistently failed to find any evidence of it? This conundrum, which was summed up by Enrico Fermi in the 1950s (thereafter known as the Fermi Paradox), has hung like a shadow over all our efforts.

For example, in the summer of 2015, a team of astronomers announced that they found what might be an indication of an alien megastructure around Tabby’s Star (KIC 8462852). However, they were quick to point out that any number of possibilities could explain the strange dimming pattern coming from the star, and subsequent studies offered even more plausible explanations — such as the star having consumed a planet at some point in its past.
To this, Osmanov has argued that the problem is that we are looking in the wrong places. Last year, he wrote a research paper in which he ventured that an alien super civilization — i.e. one that was consistent with a Level II Kardashev civilization — would likely use ring-like megastructures to harness the power of their stars. This is in contrast to the traditional concept of a “Dyson’s Sphere,” which would consist of a spherical shell.
Furthermore, he argued that these Dyson Rings would likely be built around pulsars rather than stars, and offered estimates on their dimensions which were dependent on the rotational speed of the pulsar. According to Osmanov’s latest study, titled “Are the Dyson rings around pulsars detectable?“, Osmanov extends the problem of spotting alien megastructures to the observational realm.
Specifically, he addressed how alien megastructures could be spotted by identifying their infrared energy signatures, and at what kinds of distances. By examining how such structures would vary in terms of the amount of IR radiation they would emit, he believes that they could be spotted within our local Universe using existing instruments.

Once again, it comes down to the diameter of the structures, which would in turn depend on the type of pulsar they orbit. As he states in the paper:
A couple of years earlier before publishing the paper of Kardashev, the prominent physicist Freeman Dyson has suggested that if such superadvanced (in the terminology of Kardashev, Level-II) extraterrestrials exist, for increasing efficiency of energy consumption they can construct a thin spherical shell with radius ?1AU surrounding a host star (Dyson 1960). It has been argued that for such distances the sphere will be in the so-called habitable zone (HZ) and therefore the sphere will have the temperature of the order of (200 – 300 K), making this object visible in the infrared spectrum.
Extending this to pulsars, Osmanov estimates that the habitable zone around a relatively slowly-rotating pulsar (with a period of about half a second) would be on the order of 0.1 AU. According to his calculations, a ring-like megastructure that orbited a pulsar at this distance would emit temperatures on the order of 390 K (116.85 °C; 242.33 °F), which means that the megastructure would be visible in the IR band.
From this, Osmanov concludes that modern IR telescopes — such as the Very Large Telescope Interferometer (VLTI) and the Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) — would have the necessary capacity to monitor nearby pulsars for signs of alien megastructures. He further concludes that for this purpose, these telescopes would have an effective range of up to 200 parsecs (~652 light years).

In addition, he goes on to state that within this volume of space, multiple candidates could be found and examined using these same existing instruments:
We have considered the sensitivity of VLTI and by taking into account its higher possible angular resolution, 0.001 mas, it has been shown that the maximum distance ~0.2 kpc leads to the IR spectral density of the order of 7.4 mJy, which in turn, can be detected by the VLTI. We have argued that by monitoring the nearby zone of the Solar System approximately 64 pulsars are expected to be located inside it.
Beyond these distances, up to the kiloparsec range (about 3260 light years), the angular resolution of these telescopes would not be enough to detect the structure of any rings. As such, finding megastructures at this distance would require telescopes that can conduct surveys in the UV band — which corresponds to the surface temperatures of neutron stars (7000 K). However, this would have to wait upon the development of more sensitive instruments.
“As we see, the search of infrared rings is quite promising for distances up to -0.2 kpc, where one will be able to monitor potentially 64 ± 21 pulsars by using the IR instruments,” he concluded. “Observation of distant pulsars (up to -1kpc), although will significantly increase the total number of potential objects – to 1600 ± 530, but at this moment the UV instruments cannot provide such a level of sensitivity.”

So while the range would be limited, the opportunities for testing this hypothesis would not. All told, between 43 and 85 candidates exist within the observable volume of space, according to Osmanov’s estimates. And with existing IR telescopes — and next-generation telescopes like the James Webb Space Telescopes — up to the task, some surveys could be conducted that would yield valuable information either way.
The concept of alien megastructures remains a controversial one, and for good reason. For one, the potential evidence for such structures – i.e. the periodic dimming of a star – can easily be explained by other means. Second, there is an undeniable degree of wishful thinking when it comes to the search for extra-terrestrial intelligence, which means that any findings could be subject to bias.
Nevertheless, the search for intelligent life remains a very fascinating field of study, and a necessary one at that. Not only would finding other examples of life in our Universe put to rest one of the most burning existential questions of all time — are we alone? — it would also allow us to learn a great deal about what other forms life could take. Is all life carbon based, are there other possibilities, etc? We would like to know!
In the end, the Fermi Paradox will only be resolved when we find definitive evidence that there is intelligent life out there other than our own. In the meantime, we can expect that we will keep searching until we find something. And anything that make this easier by telling us where we should (and what specifically to look for) is sure to help.

Strange dips in the light from Tabby's Star have been puzzling scientists since 2015, with some hopefuls refusing to rule out the chance that some kind of "alien megastructure" could be blocking the way.
Experts have now come up with another explanation that doesn't involve extraterrestrial technology, but rather a massive ringed planet some five times the size of Jupiter.
Astronomers from the University of Valencia and the University of Cantabria in Spain ran a giant planet model and found it could account for some of the light fluctuations if the planet's rings were tilted.
Other dips in light that scientists have recorded since could be caused by trailing asteroids, the team says.
If the hypothesis is right, then we're going to see another dip in light in 2021 thanks to a second cloud of asteroids, as these swarms usually travel in pairs – so we need to keep our telescopes trained at the stars.
"We aim at offering a relatively natural solution, invoking only phenomena that have been previously observed, although perhaps in larger or more massive versions," the astronomers write in their paper.
Tabby's Star, technically known as KIC 8462852, is more massive and hotter than our Sun, and can be found almost 1,500 light-years away between the Cygnus and Lyra constellations of the Milky Way.
We've known about it since 2009, but a couple of years ago the star became something of a stellar celebrity after astronomers noted dips in light that were far more frequent and irregular than they should be.
Since then, more variations in the emitted light have been spotted, with the most recent just last month. That particular dip could be caused by the giant planet passing behind Tabby's Star, say the researchers responsible for the new hypothesis.
That would dim the total amount of light coming from the system, as there would be no visible reflection off the planet as it passed behind the star.
If we're not dealing with alien spaceships or a huge planet the size of five Jupiters, space junk could also be responsible, according to a 2016 study.
That study put forward the idea that a different star along our line of sight, together with an unidentified form of space clutter, could be causing the dimming.
For now, the idea of planetary rings and asteroids is just a hypothesis, and it hasn't yet been peer-reviewed or published in a journal. The astronomers behind it have put their study online at arXiv.org to get feedback from the wider scientific community.
Not everyone is convinced, however: David Kipping from Columbia University says that the biggest issue is the way the model scales.
"It's great that we're getting creative and maybe some parts of this theory might comprise the final answer, but I'm fairly sceptical this is the solution," Kipping told Shannon Hall at New Scientist.
The study authors aren't too deterred though: they say that although there are problems with how the idea scales, large parts of the hypothesis fit the data we've got.
"Whatever the solution to the riddle, it's going to be exciting," one of the researchers, Alberto Fernández-Soto, told New Scientist.
In 2021, we might get chance to see if Fernández-Soto and his colleagues are right.

Alien civilizations could be attempting to communicate with us using extremely advanced neutrino-based communication systems and we may be unable to detect it, according to a Thursday Universe Today article.
Scientists think that an advanced alien civilization may have moved beyond radio waves in favor of using neutrinos or other exotic particles as forms of communication. If true, this means that humanity has been searching for aliens using the wrong techniques.
Previous Search For Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) radio astronomy surveys used radio waves because they were the only practical means of locating aliens. However, scientists now suspect that an alien civilization would likely use a more exotic means of communication.
“We are not really sure of how extraterrestrials would communicate with us,” Dr. Morris Jones, a SETI analyst, told Universe Today. “Would they use radio waves, lasers, or something more exotic? Perhaps the universe is awash in extraterrestrial signals that we cannot even receive.”
One of the best potentials methods for an extraterrestrial civilization to communicate is neutrinos, a type of subatomic particle that is produced by the decay of radioactive elements and interacts with matter very weakly. This allows them to pass through solid matter, but makes them detectable only with extremely specialized equipment that SETI hasn’t used to search for aliens yet.
“Is it possible to transmit with something better than we already have?” Jones said. “Until we know a lot more physics, we just won’t know. Humanity in the twenty-first century could be like an isolated tribe in the Amazon jungle a century ago, unaware that the air around them was filled with radio signals.”
Neutrino based communication offers a potential solution to the Fermi Paradox, the question of why scientists haven’t yet detected aliens. The universe is vast enough that if intelligent alien life was common, logically scientists should have detected it by now. Since many previous SETI searches for advanced aliens looked for radio emissions, not neutrinos, this may offer a solution to the paradox.
“SETI practitioners spend a lot of time wondering how a message would be encoded in terms of language and content,” Jones said. “It’s also important to consider the medium of transmission.”
Human being have already developed the technology to use lasers for communication, but SETI telescopes haven’t searched for lasers nearly as much as radio waves.
However, alien civilizations still could use radio bursts to communicate. Scientists still can’t explain mysterious signals from deep space called fast radio bursts (FRB) — millisecond long pulses of radio light originating from extremely deep space. These FRBs could be evidence of advanced alien technology as they are roughly one billion times more luminous than anything ever detected in our own Milky Way galaxy.

Yeovil – 20 May 2013 – 23:15
Darren was just winding down after a particularly intense part of his Open University course, when he spotted something strange in the cloudy sky. He recalls: “It was moving very quickly through the sky and if it wasn’t for the moon reflecting off its silver surface, I would not have seen the triangular fronted object that whizzed on through the air in front of me.
“I really did see some kind of object going silently and very fast across the skyline at around 200-400ft. I would estimate the object to be about twice as wide as a passenger jumbo jet but it didn’t seem to be as long. It had a triangular front to its shape and reminded me of the black stealth aircraft that you see on television.
“This all happened in the space of two seconds.”

Chris has been enjoying a music festival at the racecourse when something caught his eye in the sky. He remembers: “In a perfectly clear sky, no other stars in sight, a white orb of light appeared and seemed to get brighter and brighter, and then quickly faded out, or shot up in to the sky. It was if it had been spotted. I was in a completely sober state at the time of this sighting and was completely lost for words.”

Vanessa was celebrating the new year by letting the dogs out to do their business before bedtime, when something caught her eye. She said: “I noticed an orange light in the sky, above a house approximately 300 metres from our house. It was an orange glow, at least 1000 metres high and moved steadily towards our house. It was travelling as fast as a plane, but there was no noise. It wasn’t a plane or helicopter and was travelling too fast to be a Chinese lantern.
“The glow passed over our house and then carried on travelling until it was out of sight. There were approximately seven other lights moving on the same trajectory at the same speed over the next five minutes.
“My husband also saw the lights – he has been in the RAF and confirmed that it wasn’t any aircraft that he was familiar with.”

Tom was enjoying a crisp November night when he saw a satellite in the sky. The problem was, it wasn’t behaving how he would expect it to. He recalls: “I noticed that it was in fact slowly changing direction and not continuing in a straight direction as one would expect.
“At this point I could also see another satellite in a different location in the night sky. The first object started to change its direction more drastically before a large flash appeared to the right of where it was travelling. a few moments later a second flash appeared from the same static location fading back to a singular point of light and then entirely. Each flash lasted for no more than 4 seconds.”

Kevin and Lorraine had spotted various bright lights in the sky on previous occasions but this time there was something otherworldly about them. Lorraine said about the incident: “It appeared much lower, bigger and brighter. A bright orange oval shape, moving fairly fast and silently.
“It appeared suddenly and disappeared just as suddenly. Myself, my husband and also a third person with us have seen this by chance over a least the last two years.”

'Alien' spotted at Yeovil bus stop

Andy was taken aback when he saw an object resembling an Egyptian pyramid, hovering just a couple hundred feet above his house. He explains: “It was a fairly clear, very dark, starry night. I looked up to see a dark shape moving almost directly above me, heading from the north to the south. It passed by in about two seconds, covering the distance of a mile.
“As it passed over, it appeared to be a very dark diamond shape (rhombus), upright and appeared to be completely flat. It appeared darker than the surrounding near-black night sky and had a very dim ‘light’ at each point on the back. I estimate it passed overhead at an altitude of a couple of hundred feet and must have been approx. 50 feet across.”

Gavin was playing computer games with friends when a strange, low humming noise caught his ear. On looking out of the window, he was shocked by what he saw. He recalled: “I saw a huge black triangle, which appeared to have two white lights and one red light on the bottom of it.
“The craft can only have been 120 to 150 feet off the ground and was moving extremely slowly across the sky.”
This is not the first sighting of this UFO, as it seems to be a regular in the neighbourhood. Gavin continues: “I have seen this same craft four times now and it is usually heading in the same direction and it’s always a clear night when I see it.”

During a meteor shower, Ken spotted something that resembled a fried egg performing strangely in the sky. He explains what he thought he saw: “This light dropped rapidly before rapidly ascending almost vertically. It then began moving very fast in circles and darting up and down.
“It had no real lights, more a haze of white and grey and after about 30 seconds, it disappeared from my view.”
It hadn’t finished there though and the UFO was soon back to torment Ken. He continued: “I saw this again but now it went extremely fast from the west towards the east. It had a yellowish glow with three brighter yellowy glows within it.”

In the middle of the night, Bradleigh was driving home from hospital when he saw a UFO covered in Egyptian style writing hovering just 15 metres off the ground. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to get photographic evidence but he did say: “I was really shocked of what I witnessed. It was a grey disc and had a multi-coloured aura underneath the craft. It had a semi-circular window on the top that I could not see through. I stared at it for about 30 seconds before it started to rotate whilst hovering very strangely. All of a sudden, it then shoots towards Cley Hill area.
“It left a trail of smoke or steam and a second later, the smoke or steam pulsated and followed the UFO. I have done some research on UFO sightings in the area and found that Cley Hill is a hotspot for some reason.”

Mrs. Quarmby and her husband had been enjoying watching fire jugglers at a party, when their attention was taken by a spectacular shooting star. What happened next though has stumped her for an explanation, though she does try: “What I thought was a shooting star transformed into three lights, which formed a perfect triangle pointing towards the earth.
Each corner was lit very brightly and I know it wasn’t a plane or helicopter. The lights were much brighter than the stars and much bigger. It looked like it was hovering, then vanished.”

The infamous Roswell UFO crash really happened, a Texas cop claims in a newly surfaced interview.
Sheriff Jess Slaughter and his deputy, Charles Fogus, heard police radio reports of a crashed aircraft in early July 1947 and decided to investigate, reports UK paper The Mirror.
When they came across the site the pair saw alien bodies being loaded onto trucks, Mr Fogus says in a 1999 interview that's never been made public before.
"The bodies must have been five-feet tall," he explains. "I saw the legs and feet on some of them. They looked like our feet. The skin was a brownish colour, like they were in the sun too long. There were soldiers there, about 300 or 400 of them."
The newly surfaced interview was recorded and conducted by private investigator Deanna Short in 1999, and is revealed in new book UFOs Today - 70 Years of Lies, Misinformation and Government Cover-Up, written by Dr Irena Scott.
"This book features the testimony of a former US Deputy Sheriff who was an alleged witness to the UFO crash at Roswell in 1947," Dr Scott said in a statement.
"This gentleman's unique testimony will be published here for the first time."

Though media initially reported a "flying saucer" had crashed, the Army quickly swooped in to clarify it was just a weather balloon. That killed the story, until the late 1970s when UFO researchers began claiming publicly the US government had covered up an encounter with extra-terrestrials.
In the 1990s the Army revealed the debris was actually a top-secret balloon designed to detect atomic weapons tests by the Soviet Union, and the alien bodies witnesses claim to have seen were just test dummies.
"The Great Father didn't just make this planet, he made all of them," he said in the interview.
"He put beings on these planets just like he put us on this one. They're smarter than we are. They can get from there to here, but we can't get from here to there."
The Roswell incident is perhaps the most famous UFO conspiracy of the 20th century, and has inspired numerous movies and TV series.
Nick Redfern claims to have solved the Roswell UFO mystery.
Roswell has been at the heart of the UFO scene since July 1947 when the military sensationally announced in a press release it had found the remains of a crashed flying saucer in the desert nearby.
But the following day it retracted the statement, saying it was in fact a damaged US Air Force air balloon.
Witnesses later came forward to say there had been alien bodies within the "crashed craft", which along with the wreckage were then taken to a top-secret military base.
It has remained the most infamous UFO conspiracy theory ever since.
But now a new book has put forward a theory that is claimed could solve the world's biggest ever UFO mystery once and for all.

The theory has not gone down well with UFO believers who see Roswell as their holy grail.
British UFO and paranormal investigator Nick Redfern suggests that the object that crashed may have been a top-secret experimental craft with human guinea pigs on it who perished.
In the book, The Roswell UFO Conspiracy - Exposing A Shocking And Sinister Secret, he claims the UFO myth was pedalled by the US Government to cover up the real horrific truth.
Refern's theory comes from an interview he conducted in 2001 while investigating Roswell.
He met with an elderly woman, who claimed to have worked at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
She claimed that shortly after the Second World War, she saw "human guinea pigs" including the Japanese, handicapped people, and prisoners.
She told of them being involved in experiments with new aircraft.
Through her testimony, and other witnesses he's spoken with in the ensuing years, Redfern has pieced together that the so-called aliens found in the Roswell crash, were likely these humans deemed expendable by the government, who were used to test out the

Redfern discussed the theory on Coast to Coast radio in the US.

According to the book, the experiments reportedly used technologies brought over from Japan and Germany using gigantic balloons with attached gondolas that contained the test victims.
Mr Noory added: "The cause of the night flight disaster in July, 1947 may have been that the balloon collided with the craft that was accompanying it, which led to the balloon exploding and raining down a large amount of tin foil-like debris over Mac Brazel's ranch."
Mr Brazel had previously said he saw two balloons come down on his ranch.
People have said that hieroglyphics were seen on some parts of the wreckage, and Redfern says it may just have been Japanese writing.
Alejandro Rojas, host of Open Minds Radio, who also interviewed Mr Redfern, said: "This theory is highly controversial among UFO researchers."

Aliens are among us. That's the gist of comments made by billionaire space entrepreneur Robert Bigelow on CBS' "60 Minutes" on Sunday. Could intelligent alien life really exist on Earth and we wouldn't know about it?
Not likely, according to Seth Shostak, a senior astronomer at the SETI Institute, who said, "Obviously, I think that aliens are out there. The conditions for life seem to be very widespread. All the requirements for life are everywhere, that doesn't prove life is everywhere."
"Could they come here and be buzzing the skies and occasionally entertaining Bob Bigelow by visiting him? It doesn't violate physics, but is it likely?" Shostak told Live Science. Bigelow noted during the interview May 28 that his grandparents spotted a UFO on a canyon road outside Las Vegas: "It really sped up and came right into their face and filled up the entire windshield of the car. And it took off at a right angle and shot off into the distance," he told "60 Minutes" reporter Lara Logan.
"Do you believe in aliens?" Logan asked. "I'm absolutely convinced and that's all there is to it," said Bigelow, founder and CEO of the commercial space company Bigelow Aerospace. "There has been and there is an existing presence, an E.T. presence."
When asked if he expects to see forms of intelligent life as humans explore the universe, Bigelow replied, "You don't have to go anywhere. … It's just, like, right under people's noses."
No proof of Earthly aliens
More than half of Americans (54 percent) believe intelligent life capable of communication exists among the stars, according to a 2015 survey by marketing research firm YouGov. Plenty of money and big minds have been put to the task of finding signs of E.T., with an entire institute called SETI devoted to just that.
"He's not the only Silicon Valley type, entrepreneur in the tech industry, that thinks we're being visited," Shostak said.
Even so, the solid evidence of these visitors is nonexistent.
"Interstellar travel is very difficult; it's an energy problem," Shostak explained. Adding to that, why would aliens come visit humans now and not 2,000 years ago? (There are no records of the ancient Romans worrying about UFOs.)
If there were some reason for modern-day alien visitors, Shostak said, someone would have strong evidence by now.
"Well, if you really do think they're here, then why is it that the evidence is so poor; if the evidence was so good, we wouldn't be arguing about it, we'd be investigating it," Shostak said. "We have satellites monitoring the Earth all the time. And they don't see these guys, and yet they're apparently so visible that a random guy like Bob Bigelow can see them."
Hostile aliens
Cosmologist Stephen Hawking believes not only that aliens are out there (though he doesn't think we'll find them anytime soon), but that they could destroy humanity. Another believer in hostile aliens is film director Ridley Scott, who recently told Agence France-Presse (AFP) that extraterrestrial beings exist, and if they decide to visit planet Earth, humans should watch out. "If you are stupid enough to challenge them you will be taken out in three seconds," Scott told AFP.
Even Winston Churchill believed: "I, for one, am not so immensely impressed by the success we are making of our civilization here that I am prepared to think we are the only spot in this immense universe which contains living, thinking creatures," he wrote in an essay on the search for alien life that was recently uncovered at the Churchill Museum in Fulton, Missouri.
Right here in the solar system, NASA and private companies have spent billions on getting to know the Red Planet, with high hopes of finding signs of Martian life (though not intelligent beings), Leonard David reported in an article in Scientific American.
"Yet against all odds (and researchers' hopes for a watershed discovery), Mars remains a poker-faced world that holds its cards tight. No convincing signs of life have emerged. But astrobiologists continue to, quite literally, chip away at finding the truth," reported David, author of "Mars: Our Future on the Red Planet," in a 2016 National Geographic article.

World's Largest (and Oddest-Looking) Aircraft Rolled Out for Tests

A bizarre, double-bodied airplane with the largest wingspan of any aircraft in the world just rolled out of its hangar for the first time.
The Stratolaunch aircraft is designed to carry satellites into low-Earth orbit. The aircraft will carry satellites and their launch vehicles to a cruising altitude of 36,000 feet (11,000 meters) or so, according to Paul G. Allen, the founder of Stratolaunch. From there, the aircraft becomes something like a mobile launch pad, releasing the satellites and their launchers into orbit before returning to the runway. The advantage, according to Allen, is that getting satellites into orbit would become easier and faster. No longer would scientists or governments have to wait for a rocket launch from the ground; the Stratolaunch plane could take off from many runways and fly for hundreds of miles to find good weather conditions.
The strange dual fuselages of the craft each have a role. The right fuselage is for the flight crew, according to the company, and the left fuselage houses flight data systems. The payload will be carried underneath the conjoined center wing. Six 747 engines will lift the craft off the ground, and 28 wheels will allow for runway-style takeoffs and landings.
Now, construction of this mobile satellite launcher has advanced enough to move the Stratolaunch craft out of the hangar for its first round of testing. Today (May 31) marks the first time the plane has left the hangar, and also the first time the aircraft has held its own weight, according to a company statement — Until now, the aircraft has been partially supported by scaffolding and other infrastructure used for constructing the giant plane.

The craft's wingspan measures 386 feet (118 m) across, 26 feet (8 m) longer than a professional football field. That makes the Stratolaunch plane the largest in the world by wingspan. From nose to tail, the plane is 238 feet (76 m) long. It's taller than a four-story building from the ground to the tallest point of its tail, which towers 50 feet (15 m) high. The Airlander 10, a helium-filled airship, is considered the world's longest aircraft currently flying, extending 302 feet (92 m) long. The craft weighs in at 500,000 pounds (nearly 227,000 kilograms) and is designed to carry payloads of another 550,000 lbs. (nearly 250,000 kg). The first planned launch will be a single Orbital ATK Pegasus XL vehicle, a pre-existing rocket that can launch from carrier aircrafts. The company hopes to demonstrate such a launch in early 2019.
For now, the Stratolaunch team is conducting fueling tests, after which the craft will go through engine runs, ground testing and taxi testing before the first flight test.

Whatever the mysterious lights in the sky were, they seemed to have an interest in our nukes.
One of the more out-of-the-ordinary press conferences held in Washington this week consisted of former Air Force personnel testifying to the existence of UFOs and their ability to neutralize American and Russian nuclear missiles.
UFO researcher Robert Hastings of Albuquerque, N.M., who organized the National Press Club briefing, said more than 120 former service members had told him they'd seen unidentified flying objects near nuclear weapon storage and testing grounds.
Star & Stripes quoted former Air Force Capt. Robert Salas, who was at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Montana in 1967 when 10 ICMs he was overseeing suddenly became inoperative - at the same time base security informed him of a mysterious red glowing object in the sky.
Robert Jamison, a retired USAF nuclear missile targeting officer, told of several occasions having to go out and "re-start" missiles that had been deactivated, after UFOs were sighted nearby.
Similar sightings at nuclear sites in the former Soviet Union and in Britain were related.
CBS Affiliate KSWT describes "Britain's Roswell," a case of unidentified phenomena in December 1980 incident near two Royal Air Force Bases in Suffolk, England.
Several U.S. Air Force personnel reported seeing a strange metallic object hovering in Rendlesham Forest near RAF Woodbridge, and found three depressions in the ground.
Speaking at Monday's press briefing, retired USAF Col. Charles Halt said that in December 1980, when he was deputy base commander at RAF Bentwaters, strange lights in the forest were investigated by three patrolmen.
Halt said they reported approaching a triangular craft, "approximately three meters on a side, dark metallic in appearance with strange markings. They were observing it for a period of time, and then it very quickly and silently vanished at high speed."
Two nights later, Halt investigated another sighting near the base when he was told by the base commander, "It's back."
Halt found indentations in the ground, broken branches, and low-level background radiation. He and his team also witnessed various lights moving silently in the sky, of one which was "shedding something like molten metal." Another shined a beam of light down towards them.
The incidents were never officially explained.
Several of the ex-servicemembers speaking Monday said when they'd brought their concern of such appearances to superiors, they'd been told it was "top secret" or that it "didn't happen."
Hastings suggested the presence of such phenomena meant that aliens were monitoring our weapons, and perhaps warning us - "a sign to Washington and Moscow that we are playing with fire," as he was quoted in the Telegraph.
Hastings predicted a "paradigm shift" in the mindset of humanity owing to the existence of alien life.
"Traditional institutions such as religions, governments, other social institutions may be threatened by what is coming. That is just the logical consequence of what is about to occur."
The U.S. Air Force ended its 22-year-long "Project Blue Book" investigation of UFO sightings after investigating 12,618 sightings; all but 701 were explained, and the reminder categorized as "unidentified" due to sketchy reports, a Pentagon spokesman said in 1997.
"We cannot substantiate the existence of UFOs, and we are not harboring the remains of UFOs," said Pentagon spokesperson Kenneth Bacon in 1997. "I can't be more clear about it than that."

Astronomers working at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) in New Mexico have discovered a mysterious object in the Cygnus A galaxy. Cygnus A is about 800 million light-years from Earth and is one of the strongest sources of radio waves in the known universe.
he object was first spotted by the Hubble Space Telescope in 1994, but it was believed to be a cluster of young stars at the time. These most recent observations show that the object has very quickly become “extraordinarily bright,” baffling astronomers as to what its identity might be.

Rick Perley, an NRAO astronomer who spotted the luminous anomaly, says that whatever the object is, it lit up to its current brightness relatively recently:
To our surprise, we found a prominent new feature near the galaxy’s nucleus that did not appear in any previous published images. This new feature is bright enough that we definitely would have seen it in the earlier images if nothing had changed. That means it must have turned on sometime between 1996 and now.
There are two leading theories about what the ‘extraordinarily bright’ object might be: one, that it could be a black hole outburst. An outburst is a jet of energy and matter which was lucky enough to be flung away from the gravitational center of a black hole as opposed to pulled into its inescapable grasp.

The other theory is that it could be a massive supernova, although its brightness appears to suggest otherwise. Cygnus A already has a supermassive radio-emitting black hole named Cygnus X-1 at its center, so this discovery could mean that a second black hole has joined the galaxy thanks to a recent galactic merger. If that theory is confirmed, they would be the closest known pair of black holes ever discovered.

Lighter-toned bedrock that surrounds fractures and comprises high concentrations of silica—called “halos”—has been found in Gale crater on Mars, indicating that the planet had liquid water much longer than previously believed. The new finding is reported in a paper published today in Geophysical Research Letters, a journal of the American Geophysical Union.
“The concentration of silica is very high at the centerlines of these halos,” said Jens Frydenvang, a scientist at Los Alamos National Laboratory and the University of Copenhagen and lead author of the paper. “What we’re seeing is that silica appears to have migrated between very old sedimentary bedrock and into younger overlying rocks. The goal of NASA’s Curiosity rover mission has been to find out if Mars was ever habitable, and it has been very successful in showing that Gale crater once held a lake with water that we would even have been able to drink, but we still don’t know how long this habitable environment endured. What this finding tells us is that, even when the lake eventually evaporated, substantial amounts of groundwater were present for much longer than we previously thought—thus further expanding the window for when life might have existed on Mars.”
Whether this groundwater could have sustained life remains to be seen. But this new study buttresses recent findings by another Los Alamos scientist who found boron on Mars for the first time, which also indicates the potential for long-term habitable groundwater in the planet’s past.
The halos were analyzed by the rover’s science payload, including the laser-shooting Chemistry and Camera (ChemCam) instrument, developed at Los Alamos National Laboratory in conjunction with the French space agency. Los Alamos’ work on discovery-driven instruments like ChemCam stems from the Laboratory’s experience building and operating more than 500 spacecraft instruments for national security.
Curiosity has traveled more than 16 km over more than 1,700 sols (martian days) as it has traveled from the bottom of Gale crater part way up Mount Sharp in the center of the crater. Scientists are using all the data collected by ChemCam to put together a more complete picture of the geological history of Mars.
The elevated silica in halos was found over approximately 20 to 30 meters in elevation near a rock-layer of ancient lake sediments that had a high silica content. “This tells us that the silica found in halos in younger rocks close by was likely remobilized from the old sedimentary rocks by water flowing through the fractures,” said Frydenvang. Specifically, some of the rocks containing the halos were deposited by wind, likely as dunes. Such dunes would only exist after the lake had dried up. The presence of halos in rocks formed long after the lake dried out indicates that groundwater was still flowing within the rocks more recently than previously known.
Humanity’s interest in the topic of Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs) continues to increase. The subject has received some well deserved attention as of late, and continues to pick up momentum in a time where the truth about UFOs and possible extraterrestrials (already visiting our planet) is hitting the mainstream world.
This “truth” includes the fact that dozens of foreign governments have released thousands of pages of UFO related documents –here is an example of the latest batch released from the United Kingdom’s Ministry of Defense in June 2013. Other country’s governments who have done the same include Mexico, France, Argentina, Russia and Belgium, just to name a few. The fact that governments have released and documented information that detail UFO encounters with the military, as well as supposed extraterrestrial encounters with people, tells us that they’ve had and do have a high level of interest when it comes to the topic of UFOs and extraterrestrials. Had this information remained classified, nobody would officially be able to say that governments have allocated resources to investigate this phenomenon, and it would have remained in the “conspiracy” realm. At the same time, it’s important to remember that this issue goes far beyond and well above government control.

Apart from government documents, the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) has allowed researchers to petition and receive thousands of pages of UFO related documents from various agencies. Here is a defense intelligence agency document outlining an encounter that took place in Iran in 1976. It details a military encounter with a UFO. “There is a serious possibility that we are being visited and have been visited for many years by people from outer space, by other civilizations. Who they are, where they are from, and what they want should be the subject of rigorous scientific investigation and not be the subject of ‘rubishing’ by tabloid newspapers.” (source) – Lord Admiral Hill-Norton, Former Chief of Defence Staff, 5 Star Admiral of the Royal Navy, Chairman of the NATO Military Committee
Documents also indicate various incursions at nuclear missile sites.
The UFO issue is one that has a tremendous amount of evidence behind it. As of today, nobody can really tell you that UFOs aren’t real. Objects have been tracked on radar and visually confirmed, performing maneuvers that defy our understanding of physics and traveling at unattainable speeds. UFOS AT NUCLEAR MISSILE SITES
Many people who are aware, or who are becoming aware of the UFO phenomenon are not aware of the fact that UFOs have been visiting and interacting with nuclear missile sites across the globe for decades. This is a well documented fact that dates back all the way to December of 1948.
“Significantly, the UFO activity occasionally transcends mere surveillance and involves direct and unambiguous interference with our strategic weapons systems. Numerous cases include reports of mysterious malfunctions of large numbers of nuclear missiles just as one or more UFOs hovered nearby.” (Declassified Soviet Ministry of Defense documents confirm that such incidents also occurred in the former USSR.)
The above quote is from UFO researcher Robert Hastings, who has been researching the UFO phenomenon and its relation to nuclear missile sites for a a long time. Here is a clip of Robert speaking at the National Press Club in 2010.
THE ENCOUNTER AT MINOT AIR FORCE BASE
Minot Air Force base is located in North Dakota. In the 1960’s it was a major Strategic Air Command base, responsible for housing ICBMs (nuclear missiles). On August 25th, 1966 a team at the base was ordered to investigate a very high multi-colored light that was positioned well above the base. The team confirmed the object, as well as a second object, the object was also tracked on radar. It rose and descended several times, and eventually descended to ground level about 15 miles away from the base. According to the official report:
“When the team was about ten miles from the landing site, static disrupted radio contact with them. Five to eight mintues later, the glow diminished, and the UFO took off.” (1)
This incident lasted approximately four hours, and was confirmed by three different nuclear missile sites.
THE ENCOUNTER AT MALMSTROM AIR FORCE BASE
The UFO incursion at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Montana is one of the most remarkable events in this history of UFO encounters with the military. This occurred in March of 1967 at a base that was responsible for a large amount of nuclear weapons. Here’s what happened:

“An airman with the Oscar Flight Launch Control Center (LCC) saw a star-like object zigzagging high above him. Soon, a larger and closer light also appeared and acted in a similar way. The airman called his non-commissioned officer, and the two men watched the lights streak through the sky, maneuvering in impossible ways. The NCO phoned his commander, Lieutenant Robert Salas, who was not impressed. He ordered the NCO to keep watching the display and report back if the objects got any closer. Minutes later that is precisely what happened. Shouting into the phone, the NCO told Salas that a red, glowing UFO was hovering outside the front gate.
Salas woke his commander, Lieutenant Fred Meiwald. As he briefed Meiwald, an alarm went off in the small capsule, and both men saw a “No-Go” light turn on for one of the missiles. Within seconds, about ten of the missiles went down in succession. Twenty miles away, at the Echo Launch Control Center, the same scenario took place.
Strike teams were sent to the two launch facilities, where maintenance crews were at work and had been watching UFOs hover over each of their sites. The missiles were down for most of the day. Neither the Air Force invesigation, nor Boeing’s tests found any cause for the shutdown.”
Over the past few years, several Air Force personnel have come forward to confirm that something did happen, and in 2010 Salas was part of a press conference at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., that included these personnel. You can watch that full conference below:

Above are two of several instances that have occurred throughout the years and have been officially documented.
WHY ARE UFOS DEACTIVATING OUR NUCLEAR MISSILES?
In my opinion, atomic weapons are something Earth and those who reside upon it don’t need. Perhaps the deactivations are a message to us that we are playing with something we don’t need to play with? Many UFOs started appearing when we were testing atomic weapons. Is it possible that some extraterrestrial beings might be concerned for the planet and the well being of the human race? Perhaps they are telling us we are playing with fire? Something we don’t need or shouldn’t have?
At the same time, we don’t need beings from another world to come tell us that harboring nuclear weapons that are capable of destroying the planet aren’t needed.
Perhaps the damage caused by the detonation of nuclear weapons reaches and affects worlds beyond our own?
Perhaps this is advanced technology from another country? Spying on our weaponry. Perhaps (if extraterrestrials) they are showing their superiority?
Based on my research into the topic of UFOs and extraterrestrials, I personally believe this is being done by benevolent extraterrestrials, and that it is a clear message to stop playing around with nuclear weapons and to take care of our planet.

In juli 1947 waren sheriff Jess Slaughter en hulpsheriff Charles Fogus onderweg naar Roswell om een gevangene op te halen, toen ze op de politieradio hoorden dat er een vliegtuig was gecrasht.
De twee mannen besloten op onderzoek uit te gaan en een bezoek te brengen aan de plek waar zich één van de meest beroemde UFO-incidenten in de geschiedenis heeft voorgedaan.
Hoewel het Amerikaanse leger claimt dat het gecrashte object een weerballon was, menen complottheoretici dat er op de plek tenminste één buitenaards vaartuig is neergekomen.
Gezien
In het nieuwe boek UFOs Today – 70 Years of Lies, Misinformation and Government Cover-Up wordt onthuld dat Fogus de gecrashte vliegende schotel persoonlijk heeft gezien.
Hij zegt ook te hebben gezien hoe militairen op de crashplek een aantal lichamen van buitenaardsen hebben geborgen.
Het is voor het eerst dat Fogus zich openlijk heeft uitgesproken over de Roswell-crash.
‘Ze vervoerden een wezen’
In een interview zegt hij dat hij aan de rand van een rivierbedding een vliegende schotel zag met een doorsnee van ruim 30 meter.
“Toen we aankwamen wemelde het er van de soldaten,” zei hij. “Ze vervoerden een wezen. De lichamen waren 1,5 meter lang.”
Verlaten
“Ik zag de benen en voeten van sommige van de wezens,” voegde hij toe. “Die zagen eruit als onze voeten.”
“Ze waren bruin van kleur, alsof ze te lang in de zon hadden gelegen,” zei Fogus. “Er waren ongeveer 300 tot 400 soldaten.”
Na een minuut of 20 kregen ze te horen dat ze de plek moesten verlaten.
Slimmer
Volgens de hulpsheriff waren deze wezens slimmer dan wij en kunnen ze van hun planeet naar de onze reizen, maar kunnen wij niet naar hun planeet reizen.
De Britse Daily Mirror heeft de hand weten te leggen op het transcript van het interview tussen hulpsheriff Fogus en privédetective Deanna Short in 1999, dat hier te vinden is.
