NASA to shoot Didmyos asteroid into new flight path in DART test
NASA to shoot Didmyos asteroid into new flight path in DART test
The spacecraft, which is the size of a refrigerator, will strike an asteroid at nine times the speed of a bullet.

NASA is preparing its first ever mission to deflect an asteroid, a move the space agency hopes will provide lessons for how Earth can be protected from a potentially planet-destroying impact.
The spacecraft for the Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) is now moving to the design phase, and aims to demonstrate the "kinetic impactor technique" in which it will strike an asteroid and physically knock it into a different flight path.
The Didymos asteroid - named after the Greek word for "twin" - is being targeted because it is an asteroid binary system which consists of two bodies orbiting each other as well as the Sun.
Didymos A is the larger body, and is about a half mile across (780 metres) with the smaller body, Didymos B, being only 530 feet across (160 metres).
"A binary asteroid is the perfect natural laboratory for this test," said Tom Statler, programme scientist for DART at NASA Headquarters.
"The fact that Didymos B is in orbit around Didymos A makes it easier to see the results of the impact, and ensures that the experiment doesn't change the orbit of the pair around the sun."
NASA plans to test asteroid deflection launch
NASA moves up launch of Psyche mission to a metal asteroid
DART would fly to Didymos and use an on-board autonomous targeting system to aim itself at the smaller body.
The size of a refrigerator, the spacecraft would then strike Didymos B at about nine times the speed of a bullet or 3.7 miles per second (6km per second).
"Earth-based observatories would be able to see the impact and the resulting change in the orbit of Didymos B around Didymos A, allowing scientists to better determine the capabilities of kinetic impact as an asteroid mitigation strategy," said NASA.
"DART is a critical step in demonstrating we can protect our planet from a future asteroid impact," said Andy Cheng of The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, Maryland, the DART investigation co-lead.
"Since we don't know that much about their internal structure or composition, we need to perform this experiment on a real asteroid.
"With DART, we can show how to protect Earth from an asteroid strike with a kinetic impactor by knocking the hazardous object into a different flight path that would not threaten the planet."
MASSIVE MEGALITHIC BLOCKS OF STONES. EVIDENCE OF ADVANCED CIVILIZATIONS OF GIANTS IN RUSSIA?
MASSIVE MEGALITHIC BLOCKS OF STONES. EVIDENCE OF ADVANCED CIVILIZATIONS OF GIANTS IN RUSSIA?
In a remote region of Russia researchers and geologists have discovered huge rock formations that now make the existence of an ancient civilization made up of giants an extremely likely explanation.
More evidence emerges to prove the existence of an ancient giant civilization
The formations found near Mount Shoriya in Siberia are made up of huge boulders weighing from 3000 to 4000 tons each and stacked 130ft high. As with many other similar large rock formations found all over the globe for instance in Stonehenge and the Pyramids, the question arises as to how they were put together. Increasingly experts are considering the possibility that the explanation of an ancient civilization made up of giant humanoid beings is the only theory that comes close to explaining the construction of these huge and expertly assembled structures.
Such structures have baffled experts the world over for years
Firstly, the smooth flat surfaces and accurate angles on such huge boulders indicate the use of massive tools. Even modern machinery today would struggle to sculpt individual boulders of such size and on such a scale.
Secondly, the assembly of these boulders into the massive structures that are visible even today requires cranes and lifting equipment that did not even exist back when these structures were assembled.
Folklore and religion have previously been used to explain these structures and have even alluded to the existence of such beings. Scriptures in most Abrahamic faiths including Judaism, Christianity and Islam as well as Native American, Greek, Roman, Norsk, Jainism and Hindu faiths tell of a prehistoric civilization made of giant beings.
Some scientists have proposed that the formations arose due to natural geological processes over millions of years which have led to the eroding and shaping of the structures visible today.
However now in the face of lack of any other feasible explanation more and more skeptics have had to accept that only the existence of giants comes close to providing a credible explanation.
A curious aspect of the UFO phenomena is why more people aren’t curious about it. I don’t mean regular people. A Newsweek poll shows most Americans (54 per cent) believe UFOs are visiting Earth from Alpha Centauri, or Sirius A, or Krypton, or some other place with cleaner air and better coffee.
I’m talking about those who could reveal to the public whether extraterrestrials are, in fact, visiting our planet illegally and taking jobs away from hard-working Americans. Connected people, powerful people, people who get things done – like Oprah Winfrey.
A recent study by doctoral student and statistician Sam Monfort (favorite T-shirt, “No one parties like a statistician”), shows there are more UFO sightings now than, well, ever. Triangle craft, cigar-shaped craft, saucers and the Millennium Falcon are being reported at a record number.
Seriously, the Millennium Falcon. Crashed. At the bottom of the Baltic Sea. This picture was taken in 2011 by the Swedish diving team that discovered it.
Monfort’s report shows there are 300 times as many sightings of Unidentified Flying Objects in the United States than there are in the rest of the world combined. Given our political climate, I’m not surprised. Which brings me to the Offutt Extraterrestrial Hypothesis: Americans see UFOs because Canada’s not far enough away.
With the Royal Canadian Mounted Police arresting weepy American border crossers (21 in just one weekend in Emerson, Manitoba), I’m sure Taphao Thong looks like a good place to settle down (this is the planet’s actual name. It rolls off the tongue compared to 47 Ursae Majoris b).
But what do people in The Know know? You know?
NASA recently announced the discovery of seven rocky Earth-like planets orbiting the star TRAPPIST-1 in its Goldilocks Zone (a distance from its star that would allow a planet to support liquid water). NASA scientists are going to begin searching for life there just as soon as they feel like it, but not now. They’re too busy naming the planets after Belgian beers (not a joke).
If there’s life out there, however, NASA may already know.
The agency mysteriously cut its live feed from the International Space Station on 9 June last year after a bright object flew through its view, per an article in USA Today. NASA denies voluntarily cutting the stream – just like it didn’t cut the video in January 2015 when a UFO hovered in front of the camera, and this February when “six large objects scurry(ed) by,” per the U.K.’s Daily Mirror.
The Daily Mirror article included posts from a man simply named “Tyler” from the UFO research group SecureTeam, claiming the objects to be “a fleet of unidentified flying objects moving in the distance behind the International Space Station.”
The objects were lens flares, per NASA. Even the one with the Pearl Jam bumper sticker.
NASA didn’t help its case for “move along, there are no aliens to see here,” by appearing on Reddit Feb. 22 to discuss the TRAPPIST-1 announcement. When the alternative media outlet Collective Evolution asked NASA when it was coming clean on aliens, Reddit deleted the outlet’s account.
I mean, that’s not suspicious, or anything.
UFO disclosure is all on your shoulders, Oprah Winfrey. All on yours.
Still frame from the ISS live feed picturing a hovering UFO.

Will truth about 'UFO crash' in Roswell desert 70 years ago ever be known?
Will truth about 'UFO crash' in Roswell desert 70 years ago ever be known?
EXACTLY 70 years ago this week arguably the world's most notorious UFO mystery began after an "object" crashed near a ranch in the desert on the outskirts of Roswell, New Mexico.
Despite countless alien investigators pouring over the "evidence" from the alleged UFO crash which reportedly included aliens, both alive and dead inside the wreckage, the riddle has never been solved to everyone's satisfaction.
This weekend saw the town's 50,000 population almost double as UFO enthusiasts from across the globe flocked to the mecca.
On July 7 1947 rancher W W Brazel told Sheriff George Wilcox he had found "something strange" on his sheep ranch on the outskirts of Roswell.
Mr Brazel stumbled across some rubber, foil, and other debris on the ground and told the sheriff who alerted the nearby Army base air field.
Major Jesse Marcel, an intelligence officer, was sent to investigate.
GETTY
THe Roswell mystery has captivated UFO hunters for more than 70 years.
Mr Marcel was apparently convinced the rancher had found the world's first evidence of aliens and what they were looking at were the remains of a flying saucer.
He, in turn, reported this up the chain, prompting duty press officer Walter Haut, at the now notorious Nevada Area 51 base, to send this out in a news release.
The following day's edition of the local paper, the Roswell Daily Record, unsurprisingly had the dream headline: "RAAF CAPTURES FLYING SAUCER ON RANCH IN ROSWELL REGION”.
But next came a big U-turn and still no sign of actual aliens.
Perhaps in 1947 people would have thought a cosmos travelling flying saucer would be made from foil, rubber, tape, paper and wood, as Mr Brazel found.
But the day of the news report, the RAAF retracted its original release and said what was found were the parts of a downed weather balloon.
The paper duly printed a follow-up in which Mr Brazel spoke of his embarrassment to have got "worked up over nothing".
But by now the snowball had started, and it was gathering pace.
No one was interested in the follow up story, and the original first went national and then global, even without the internet, and in Roswell, USA the world's UFO capital was born.
It was also the birth of the conspiracy theorist, whereby the unimaginable is more likely to be the case than the rational.
Instantly, claims were made that the military had found a craft, but they did not want news getting out and the weather balloon story was quickly made up as a cover.
But it appears to have taken several years before the "aliens being found inside" element of the story began.
US magazine Time did an investigation published on the Roswell Incident - as it became known - on the 50th anniversary in July 1997.
It said Stanton Friedman, a former nuclear physicist-turned UFOlogist, was told in 1978 that a now retired Mr Marcel had "once handled the wreckage of a UFO".
Mr Friedman reportedly met Mr Marcel, who remained convinced the debris was a flying saucer.
This sparked him to investigate the 31-year-old case, seeking out other witnesses from the time.
Was there a government cover up of a UFO or aliens in the Roswell crash? What exactly went on at Area 51?
www.alien-research-ufo.com
His book - The Roswell Incident, co-written by Charles Berlitz and published in 1980 - saw the mystery revisited many times.
There were many more articles and books, and hoaxers in 1995 released a black and white video showing military medics carrying out a makeshift autopsy on an alien corpse, amid claims it was a leaked genuine recording from the incident in 1947.
This was later proved to be a hoax, although many conspiracists and UFOers still refuse to accept that.
Allegations of the cover up grew so widespread that the Air Force eventually ran its own probe at the end of which it published previously confidential information about a top-secret balloon-tracking project that had been going at the same time in 1947, which it was said explained the found remains.
It has remained one of the world's biggest conspiracy theories and UFO cases.
In May 2015, a photograph purporting to be of one of the dead aliens taken at time was unveiled, but later discovered to be nothing more than a mummified human child in a museum display case.
Walter Haut died in 2007 insisting that after earlier founding Roswell's UFO Museum which remains open.
One thing seems clear - even if "the truth is out there" believers of the Roswell UFO crash will not go away and theories will continue to abound.
On the alien-ufo-research.com website today under the special Roswell section, it still lists the 1995 hoax footage as being genuine leaked material.
The website says: "Was there a government cover up of a UFO or aliens in the Roswell crash? What exactly went on at Area 51?
"It isn't as widely known, but there were actually two crash sites. Did the government acknowledge the first, only to say it was a high tech weather balloon test that crashed, to divert attention away from a second and more important UFO crash site?
"Why if nothing went on is the crash site and Area 51 still in lock down after many decades. Don't believe everything you are told.
"Do your research and decide for yourself what really happened that night in Roswell."

UFO Disclosure 2017- 70th Anniversary of Roswell
UFO Disclosure 2017- 70th Anniversary of Roswell
Published on Jul 3, 2017
So it turned out that 2016 was not the year of UFO Disclosure, but could 2017 be it? It is seventy years since an artefact from an extraterrestrial civilization came to grief on the earth's surface and was secretly salvaged by the government. They then planted fake news stories in the media to bury the truth. Will this anniversary raise the profile of the Roswell Incident to the level where we can finally have UFO Disclosure? In this film I also catch up on the latest UFO Disclosure news. See here for the previous film in the series UFO Disclosure 2017: http://hpanwo-tv.blogspot.co.uk/2017/....

NASA ROVER SPOTS 'ALIEN THIGH BONE' ON MARS
NASA ROVER SPOTS 'ALIEN THIGH BONE' ON MARS
E.T. enthusiasts claim photos are proof 'intelligent life forms once occupied the planet'
Image taken by NASA’s Curiosity rover shows weathered rock that some say resembles a ‘thigh bones’ on Mars
NASA’s rover has photographed a strange formation of rocks that some UFO hunters claim are really fossilized “alien bones” proving there’s life on Mars.
The one-ton Curiosity rover, which has been scouring the surface of the planet since August 2012, sent back a pair of images that resemble thigh bones and a hip bone protruding from the planet’s surface.
The alien-hunter group Martian Archaeology presented the images in a video claiming the photos are evidence of “signs of life”:
Some took the photos as surefire evidence that NASA must be hiding proof of life.
“After years of research and study, I’m convinced now, more than ever, that there[‘s] much more to Mars then [sic] what NASA admits to,” wrote T.J. Devereaux in the comments section of the video. “I’m certain life, including water, and intelligent life forms, once occupied the planet, and … big leap here … that both still exist, in much smaller quantities.”
However, NASA has said the following 2014 photo – which some have claimed could be an “alien thigh bone – is just another weathered Martian rock.
Image taken by NASA’s Curiosity rover shows weathered rocks that some say resemble ‘thigh bones’ on Mars
In the photo description, NASA explained that the “Mars rock may look like a femur bone,” but it’s not the remains of a dead Martian.
“Mission science team members think its shape is likely sculpted by erosion, either wind or water,” NASA explained.
Even so, if aliens do live on Mars, they’re more likely to be microscopic creatures, the scientists said.
“If life ever existed on Mars, scientists expect that it would be small simple life forms called microbes,” NASA officials wrote in the photo description. “Mars likely never had enough oxygen in its atmosphere and elsewhere to support more complex organisms. Thus, large fossils are not likely.”
Some also claimed another photo snapped by the rover resembles a hip bone:

Alien enthusiasts say a weathered rock found on Mars (right) resembles a hip bone (left) (Photo: YouTube screenshot)
Apparently humans seeing shapes in Mars rocks is nothing new. In the 1800s, astronomers believed they located canals on the Red Planet.
And in 1976, a photo from NASA’s Viking 1 orbiter depicted a rock formation that resembled a shadowy human face, known as the “Face on Mars.”
‘Face on Mars’
Since then, other photos revealed rock formations resembling a lizard, a rat and even a jelly donut.
On Friday (June 30), scientists around the world will once again use Asteroid Day as a talking point to help protect our planet from the next killer world. The threat is serious enough that NASA has an entire Planetary Defense Coordination Office dedicated to tracking down asteroids and running scenarios about protecting Earth. On a more lighthearted note, however, threatening asteroids also make for excellent Hollywood fodder.
We've picked a small number of films that are memorable for their depictions of a small rocky or icy world threatening the Earth, including those renowned for their lack of factual accuracy ("Armageddon") or their cute depictions of dinosaurs ("The Good Dinosaur"). Here's a brief rundown of fun asteroid (and comet) films to fill your summer movie schedule — and if you have other suggestions, please add them in the comments. [Space Movies to Watch in 2017]
1. "The Day the Sky Exploded" (1958)
Credit: Everett Collection
Unlike many of the other films discussed in here, this film's threatening asteroid comes about through human activity. This Italian film — often cited as the first science-fiction film from that country — shows a malfunctioning moon rocket going off course and exploding in the asteroid belt, propelling a swarm of asteroids toward Earth.
While you're getting your mind around the weird physics of that, consider the solution proposed in the film — to have every nation fire its nuclear warheads toward the cluster and save the world. There must be some sort of moral about world peace in there, but we're struggling to find it. Notably, there's so much stock footage in the film that (decades later) the "Monthly Film Review" labeled this film "stock-shot film par excellence." [Best Space Movies in the Universe]
2. "Meteor" (1979)
Credit: Everett Collection
The trailer for this movie alone is worth the 3-minute watch. While using dramatic sounds of an asteroid whizzing through space (which wouldn't happen, as there is no air in space in which sound can carry), the narrator begins describing the impending asteroid strike in panicked terms:
"Its power is greater than all hydrogen bombs. Its speed is higher than any rocket ever conceived. Its force can shatter continents. Its mass can level mountain ranges. It cannot think. It cannot reason. IT CANNOT CHANGE ITS COURSE."
Starring Sean Connery (who was best known at the time as James Bond), this movie shows the United States and what was then the Soviet Union putting aside Cold War tensions and working together to stop the threat.
3. "Night of the Comet" (1984)
Credit: Everett Collection
Before getting to this movie's plot — and it's worth the wait, as there are undead people involved — let's do a quick overview of an asteroid versus a comet. An asteroid is considered a small, mostly rocky body. Comets are similarly sized but have more ice in them; when comets get close to the sun, the ice streams off the comet and (if strong enough) can form a long tail visible from far away.
Anyway, on to the movie. The Earth passes through the stream of a comet for the first time in 65 million years (the extinction of the dinosaurs). The science gets silly very quickly, however, as the resulting dust peppering the Earth either kills people or turns them into zombies. But here's the best part — this movie, now considered a cult classic, was watched by none other than film and TV creator Joss Whedon. He has said in interviews that he liked the lead female character (Sam Belmont, played by Kelli Maroney) so much that he modeled "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" onher.
4. "Deep Impact" (1998)
Credit: Paramount
"Deep Impact" was released in the same summer as "Armageddon," forever setting up the two movies as rivals for plot and scientific accuracy. While "Deep Impact" did better on both counts, it grossed less at the box office. The plot (while reasonably watchable) is depressing, as we see an estranged father and daughter (Robert Duvall and Tea Leoni) reuniting just as Earth is being threatened by a planet-killing menace.
The movie (spoiler alert) actually does show a comet fragment hitting one of the Earth's oceans and causing a megatsunami across the Atlantic — that sequence was considered a fairly accurate representation of what happens. Fantasy nerds should also watch out for a pre-"Lord of the Rings" Elijah Wood. [Why Do We Love Space Movies?]
5."Seeking A Friend for the End of the World" (2012)
Credit: Darren Michaels
This is a bittersweet movie about Dodge Peterson (Steve Carrell) after news of an asteroid about to strike Earth prompts his wife to leave and his friends to change. While Peterson's life at first carries on as usual, the hope of a new love has him taking risks that he wouldn't have imagined previously.
There isn't much talk about the science in this film, but instead it explores how people would react if the world were ending. We really enjoy the journey that Carrell's character goes through, as he identifies the things that are the most important — something that we should all be doing anyway from time to time.
6. "The Good Dinosaur" (2015)
Credit: Disney/Pixar
The leading theory for the demise of the dinosaurs is that an asteroid smacked into the Earth 65 million years ago. The movie depicts an alternate universe where the asteroid safely passes by the Earth. (A bunch of grazing dinosaurs looks up as it flies overhead, and then resume eating.)
Adorably, it then portrays what would happen if dinosaurs and humans actually coexisted — and makes us more optimistic of the result than the "Jurassic Park" series. Specifically, the movie shows Arlo (an aptosaurus) bonding with a young cave boy named Spot. Arlo, who is the klutzy runt of the family and can't figure out yet how to contribute to his family's farming business, gains new confidence after meeting up with his first human.
Disney released a film called "Dinosaur" in 2000 that also depicts the aftermath of a missed meteor, but in that film the friendship was between lemurs and an orphaned iguanodon.
7. "Armageddon" (1998)
Credit: Getty
This movie is the source for most meteor-impact jokes you hear today, particularly any references about calling in Bruce Willis to save the Earth. The movie depicts Harry Stamper (Willis) and his oil rig crew (who are mostly losers who have done time in jail) being hired by NASA as astronauts. Their goal is to drill into an asteroid the size of Texas and deploy a bomb to break it into pieces, before the asteroid hits the Earth.
Meanwhile, Stamper's daughter Grace (Liv Tyler) falls into a torrid love affair with one of Willis' crew, A.J. (Ben Affleck). We'll spare you the details of their overwrought discussions of love over animal crackers — but do understand that the science, plainly put, sucks. Highlights include occasional depictions of Earth-scale gravity on a tiny asteroid, watching two space shuttles take off at the same time just a few hundred feet from each other, and the most stereotypical portrayal ever of a Russian cosmonaut on then-space station Mir.
Team Gurus, originally unearthed a new UFO model and some scripting that they were able to use to trigger a Supply Run mission. That required some hacking and modding tools though, so not really a choice for most people. This is what the mission actually looks like:
However, the ability to trigger the event legitimately, in-game, has now been unearthed and... holy crap it's a lot of work. Basically, you'll need to complete 601 gunrunning sales and then start a supply run between 21:00hrs and 23:00hrs, to get a crack at stealing some alien eggs from the crashed UFO.
Be warned, as well that, this looks like a one-shot deal, so you won't get another go once you trigger it. That said many think this could be the start of more UFO related activities. Remember, the original Mount Chiliad drawing shows a UFO, egg - both now found - as well as an as yet undiscovered jet pack. Who know's where this is going? Especially as 600 sales is so much for a one shot mission, and people are already wondering if there has to be more?
World UFO Day may have just passed, but that doesn’t mean we can’t experience a few more Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
Sony Pictures released a mysterious trailer Monday titled “This means something,” meant to tease an exclusive theatrical re-release in time for its 40th anniversary, EW has learned.
The video — which you can watch above — features air traffic controllers tracking a colorful, unexplained craft of some kind slowly descending before simply disappearing. Interspersed throughout are “flashes” of scenes from the 1977 movie (below). In the final seconds, the site address for WeAreStillNotAlone.comflashes across the screen, with the page it leads to asking visitors to “sign up” for news on UFO sightings.
The title itself is a reference to an iconic line from the movie which Richard Dreyfuss’ Roy Neary utters after building the famous mashed potato replicaof the Devils Tower (a rock formation that is one of Wyoming’s national monuments). The Steven Spielberg-directed movie told the story of Neary’s determined attempts to contact alien intelligence (a.k.a. having a close encounter of the third kind) after he witnesses a UFO.
No word yet when Close Encounters‘ theatrical return will be, but it’s worth noting the anniversary is on Nov. 16.
Before June 24, 1947, terms such as UFOs and flying saucers had not entered popular vocabulary.
Then, on that afternoon 70 years ago, it all changed because of Kenneth Arnold: “Supersonic Flying Saucers Sighted by Idaho Pilot.”
Arnold reported seeing near Mount Rainier nine “circular-type” objects flying in formation at more than twice the speed of sound.
His was the first widely reported UFO sighting in this country, and it set off a wave of other reported sightings.
In a now-declassified document, the Air Force Materiel Command wrote it off: “The report cannot bear even superficial examination, therefore, must be disregarded.”
Another Air Force document concluded, “It is the Air Force conclusion that the objects of this sighting were due to a mirage.”
For Arnold, it stung.
He didn’t consider himself some kind of kook. He had more than 4,000 hours of mountain high-altitude pilot time; he was in the Idaho search and rescue.
“I have been subjected to ridicule, much loss of time and money, newspaper notoriety, magazine stories, reflections on my honesty, my character, my business dealings,” Arnold wrote in his 1952 book, Coming of the Saucers.
A long time ago, in 1977, I interviewed Arnold after reaching him by phone.
He died in 1984 at age 68, and in all those years, and with me, he never wavered in his descriptions.
“I made my report because I thought it was my duty. It was the only proper and American thing to do. I saw what I saw,” he said.
You can draw a direct line between what Arnold repeatedly recounted in detail to FBI and military investigators and our collective fascination with the possibility that aliens have visited us.
That direct connection goes from Area 51 allegedly hiding an alien craft, to the Roswell UFO Incident; and from movies such as Close Encounters of the Third Kind, to the TV series The X-Files.
It’s become so much a part of our culture that even the CIA website has a section titled “Take a Peek Into Our “X-Files” that is chock-full of declassified files.
Interested in a 1952 drawing of “flying saucers over Belgian Congo uranium mines?” It’s in the CIA files.
Unassuming salesman
Arnold was an unlikely candidate to become embroiled in such a controversy.
He lived in Meridian, Idaho, and sold fire-extinguishing equipment. About as unusual as his life got was that he piloted a small airplane to get to his clients around the Northwest.
A month after Arnold was in the news, a now-declassified report made in July 1947 by Army Air Force Counter-Intelligence Corps Officer Frank M. Brown said, “Mr. Arnold is a man of 32 years of age, being married and the father of two children. It is the personal opinion of the interviewer that Mr. Arnold actually saw what he saw. To go further, if Mr. Arnold can write a report of the character that he did while not having seen the objects that he claimed he saw, it is the opinion of the interviewer that Mr. Arnold is in the wrong business, that he should be writing Buck Rogers fiction.”
That was one of the few sympathetic portrayals in government documents of Arnold’s sighting.
In another declassified intelligence report in July 1947, First Lt. Hal L. Eustace of the Army Air Corps put Arnold’s report as part of “silly-season episodes.”
The lieutenant wrote that Arnold “seems to be reasonably well balanced, although excitable, and has no apparent ulterior motive. other than to prove he is not ‘nuts.’?”
The lieutenant wrote that Arnold revealed “an antagonistic attitude toward the Army” by stating, “Well, if the Army doesn’t know what they are, it sure ought to be trying to find out!”
Bright flash lit the sky
Arnold’s sighting of the craft was the 1947 version of a story going viral.
“It was a beautiful day. Just as clear as a bell,” Arnold said. He was flying from Chehalis to Yakima and decided to spend an hour or so searching for a downed C-46 Marine transport that had crashed into the southwest side of Mount Rainier.
There was a $5,000 reward for finding it.
It was at 3 p.m., he remembered, “when a very bright flash lit up the plane and the sky around me.”
At first, Arnold thought it was the sun reflecting off another plane.
“But the flash happened again, and that’s when I saw where it was coming from. It came spasmodically from a chain of nine circular-type aircraft way up from the vicinity of Mount Rainier,” said Arnold.
“I could not find any tails on these things. They didn’t leave a jet trail behind them. I judged their size to be at least 100 feet in widespan. I thought it was a new type of missile.”
His plane had a big sweep 24-hour clock on the instrument panel. Arnold measured that the craft covered the distance between Mount Rainier and Mount Adams in 1 minute 42 seconds.
“That figured out to something like 1,760 miles an hour, which I could hardly believe. I knew that figure couldn’t be entirely accurate, but I’d say it was within a couple of hundred miles accurate,” he said.
From Yakima, Arnold then flew to an air show in Pendleton, Oregon. The next day, on June 25, he stopped by the local newspaper, the East Oregonian. He wanted to know if the military had been testing secret warplanes in the area.
He ended up talking to reporter Bill Bequette, who, in subsequent years, remembered that Arnold “came off as honest, level headed and credible,” said a story in the East Oregonian.
So Bequette wrote a brief story about what Arnold said he witnessed.
But the brief also went out to The Associated Press, got picked up by numerous newspapers, and the furor began. For the first time, a mass-media story and subsequent headlines used the term, “flying saucers.”
There were no reported riches for Arnold because of his notoriety. Instead, he complained to Frank Brown, the Air Force investigator, “that his business had suffered greatly . at every stop in his business routes, large groups of people were waiting to question him .”
Brown concluded his report, “Mr. Arnold stated further that if he, at any time in the future, saw anything in the sky, to quote Mr. Arnold . ‘If I ever saw a ten story building flying through the air I would never say a word about it,’ due to the fact that he has been ridiculed by the press to such an extent that he is practically a moron in the eye of the majority of the population of the United States.”
A mystery to this day
Despite that statement to Brown, in the coming years Arnold was driven to prove he was right.
There were “many long hours of fruitless flying with a camera, trying and failing to find anything like his saucers again,” says Martin Shough, a well-regarded researcher of the UFO phenomena who has written a detailed analysis of Arnold’s account.
In an email, Shough, who lives in the Highlands of Scotland, says, “I am resigned to never knowing what Arnold saw.”
He concludes, “Seventy years on, when so much of the flying saucer mythology that Kenneth Arnold triggered has been explained away, it is somewhat embarrassing that Arnold’s own sighting remains obstinately resistant.

IN BRIEF
PLATO, a deep-space observatory designed to search for exoplanets, has been approved for construction by the European Space Agency. Researchers aim to launch PLATO in 2026 and are particular interested in using it to discover potentially habitable worlds.
SEARCHING THE STARS
The European Space Agency’s Science Programme Committee has approved the Planetary Transits and Oscillations of stars (PLATO) mission to move into the construction phase. They aim to launch this deep-space observatory in 2026 with the goal of “discovering and characterizing Earth-sized planets and super-Earths orbiting Sun-like stars in the habitable zone” — although it “could eventually lead to the detection of extraterrestrial life,” according to a University of Warwick press release.
The observatory will have 26 telescopes on board and will be launched 1.5 million km (932,000 miles) into space, where, according to a mission summary, it will conduct “Ultra-high precision, long (up to several years), uninterrupted photometric monitoring in the visible band of very large samples of bright (mV ≤11) stars.” This will provide unprecedented data on distant planets.
The project will be undertaken by the University of Warwick, England, and includes an important follow-up aspect for verifying PLATO’s data. PLATO’s resolution will not be high enough to tell conclusively when it is detecting an exoplanet, so researchers will need to check the readings to be sure they are not indicating noise or a different spacial anomaly before more resources are committed to investigating that part of space.
THE PANTHEON PLATO WILL JOIN
PLATO will be one of two missions that explicitly seek habitable planets in the galaxy — the other being Kepler, which worryingly went into emergency mode in 2015. Kepler has now detected 4,034 planets, of which 2,335 have been verified as exoplanets. Of the roughly 50 candidates that are near-Earth size and orbit in habitable zones, more than 30 have been verified as capable of supporting life.
NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope has also been detecting hospitable worlds, but this was not its primary function — instead its aim, as stated on the NASA website, is to “observe astronomical objects and phenomena more consistently and with better detail than generally attainable from ground-based observatories,” which can include nebula, galaxies, and black holes.

Members of Congress have laid the groundwork for the U.S Air Force to establish a new branch of the military, known as a Space Corps, by January of 2019.
The proposal came from Congressmen Mike Rogers, R-Ala., and Jim Cooper. D-Tenn., the top representatives of the Strategic Forces Subcommittee, which oversees military space operations. They introduced the legislation into the House Armed Services Committee National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) on Tuesday.
According to a joint statement by Rogers and Cooper, the Space Corps would reorganize the national security space enterprise “to ensure prioritization of the space domain by creating a U.S. Space Corps as a separate military service within the Department of the Air Force and under the civilian leadership of the Secretary of the Air Force.”

"There is bipartisan acknowledgement that the strategic advantages we derive from our national security space systems are eroding," the statement said, "We are convinced that the Department of Defense is unable to take the measures necessary to address these challenges effectively and decisively, or even recognize the nature and scale of its problems."
Rogers told Space News “As I’ve been chairing this subcommittee for the last four years, we have seen time and again that our ability to meet new challenges in space is lethargic at best.”
Space would fall under the command of its own chief, equal in rank to the Chief of Staff of the Air Force, who would sit on the Joint Chiefs of Staff and answer to the Secretary of the Air Force.
But Air Force leaders are rejecting the plan. “The Pentagon is complicated enough,” Air Force Secretary Heather Wilson told reporters following her testimony in front of the Senate Defense Appropriations Subcommittee. “This will make it more complex, add more boxes to the organization chart and cost more money. If I had more money, I would put it into lethality, not bureaucracy.”
An Air Force statement, sent to Fox News on Wilson’s behalf, said, "I could not agree more that now is the time to address the threats our nation faces in space, which is why the Air Force has proposed a 20 percent increase in space funding in this year's budget, and announced last week a reorganization that integrates, elevates and normalizes space."
When Air Force Chief of Staff General David Goldfein was asked at a Senate Armed Services Subcommittee on Strategic Forces hearing, “some space advocates these days are calling for space corps, something like the structure of the Marines within the Navy. Do you support that, or do you think we should take a pass?” he responded “Sir, I do not support it at this time in our history” and went on to say “Whether there is a time in our future when we want to take a look at this again, I would say that we probably ought to keep that dialogue open. But right now, I think it would actually move us in the wrong direction and slow us down from where we need to go.”
Fox News went back to Rogers and Cooper about the Air Force opposition to their legislation. Cooper did not return a request for comment and Rogers sent a statement saying:
“My subcommittee has studied this issue for months. Congressman Cooper and I have met with space experts and space leaders and have concluded that Congress must intervene to help address the significant flaws in the organization and management of our national security space. I am outraged by the response from the Air Force leadership – I know creating the Space Corps will take work, but they are completely out of touch if they truly believe the U.S. can keep up with China or Russia if we do not do move forward with Space Corps. In fact, China and Russia are also ahead of us in terms of reorganizing their military space capabilities. The United States will fall further behind because space is the future for warfare.”
The Air Force already has a Space Command, but if this new legislation makes it through votes in the House and Senate, and is signed into law by the president, then the U.S. will have “a separate military service responsible for national security space programs for which the Air Force is today responsible.”

MIMIC reveals huge unknown anomaly above the Earth flying towards Antarctica
MIMIC reveals huge unknown anomaly above the Earth flying towards Antarctica
A huge anomaly that looks nearly exactly like that of a large asteroid or possibly an enormous piece of space debris has shown up on the MIMIC map of July 4, 2017 first appearing at just below the equator.
The anomaly appears to originate at a steep incline off of the west coast of Africa flying all the way across the South Atlantic Ocean.
Although this anomaly is different from the waves/anomalies which have been caught in the past, it clearly makes a ‘bee-line’ towards Antarctica like all the waves/anomalies before.

Incredible images of transparent vehicle in the sky over Kaufman, Texas
While driving on the Highway 175 near Kaufman in Texas the witness noticed a shiny object in the sky. At first he thought it was a plane but there was no sound and strange enough the object did not move.
He quickly took two repeat images of the shiny object before it suddenly was gone.
After looking the images he was shocked at what appeared in the images what looks like a transparent vehicle. The images were taken last year, July 19, 2016 and submitted to Mufon, case 84792.
Note:It reminds me the stunning image captured by a resident of Vienna in Austria in 2014 of a huge transparent vehicle floating above the clouds for 2 minutes before it was gone.
Some time ago, Airbus has unveiled its vision for flight in 40 years' time that includes see-through walls, holographic gaming and morphing seats but in this case it seems unlikely that the photographer captured images of such a transparent plane of the future or it must be the transparent vehicle still is in its development phase.

EXTRATERRESTRIAL LIFE REVEALED ON RUSSIAN DECLASSIFIED SECRET PHOTOGRAPHS OF VENUS
EXTRATERRESTRIAL LIFE REVEALED ON RUSSIAN DECLASSIFIED SECRET PHOTOGRAPHS OF VENUS
A series of photographs have been released by the Space Research Institute of Russian Academy of Sciences. The images had been captured by the Venera probe and they allegedly reveal evidence that there are organisms that are alive on Venus.
Venus is thought to be among the most inhospitable places in the solar system for human beings and is the second planet from the sun and the most similar of planets in the solar system in regards to size along with structure to Earth. However, the structure of it is not anything at all like that of Earth.
VENUS HAS TEMPERATURE OF 480 CELSIUS
Venus is the hottest of planets in the solar system and this is down to the atmosphere, which has a greenhouse gas that traps heat which is about 97% carbon dioxide. The temperature is said to be about 480 degrees Celsius, constantly, and this has heat enough to be able to melt lead and is hotter than Mercury, which is the closest planet to the Sun.
Leonid Ksanfomaliti, the doctor of physical and mathematical science from the Institute for Space Research, said that the photographs had been captured about 30 years ago and they show movement on the surface of Venus of objects that are very strange.
Of course, NASA 'debunked' the discovery of what might be proof of life on Venus. They said that the creature that Ksanfomaliti said was like a scorpion, was, in fact, nothing more than noise in a second-hand photograph, which had not been seen in the original photograph. They also said that the disc that had been seen moving over the surface of Venus was a lens cap.
This has not stopped Ksanfomaliti believing that in the photographs there is a disk, along with what was described as being a black flap, and a creature that has the shape of a scorpion, moving in the images and moving directly in front of the camera that is onboard Venera 13.
OBJECTS ON SURFACE OF VENUS WERE SAID TO EMERGE, FLUCTUATE AND DISAPPEAR
Reports from a news agency in Russia said that Ksanfomaliti had told a magazine in Russia that they had all emerged and then fluctuated and finally disappeared. He went on to say that if people forgot about the theories that life cannot exist on Venus, then the morphological features of the objects lead people to believe that they are actually living forms.
NASA photo analyst disagrees with Ksanfomaliti and he said that what Ksanfomaliti saw on the photographs is more than likely nothing more than a disc that would have come from the spacecraft. He went on to say that there were two cameras on Venera-13, one of which was situated on the back and the other one to the front. One image showed the lens cap from the camera at the back, not a lens cap that had moved.
NASA CLAIMS NOTHING COULD SURVIVE ON SURFACE OF VENUS
NASA went on to say that there was absolutely no way that anything would be able to survive on the surface of Venus. Scientists have said that perhaps once in the very distant past, Venus may have been able to support life and this would have been during a time when the planet had giant oceans. This would be well before the greenhouse effect and the creation of the high temperatures that exist over Venus today.
There are theories that perhaps Earth and Venus may both have started out very similar. It has been suggested that perhaps there might have been plenty of water on the planet Venus and it may have been possible that there was a large amount of carbon dioxide on Earth. This came from a paper that was published in2004 by Professor Andrew Ingersoll from Caltech.
PERHAPS THERE ARE ALIEN BEINGS WHO LIKE HIGH TEMPERATURES
One of the biggest issues with scholars and scientists who are looking for extra-terrestrial life in the universe and solar system is that for life to have been able to exist, the planet would have to have a climate along with conditions that are very similar to those on Earth.
However, it has been suggested that it may be possible that on Venus, or perhaps elsewhere, there are beings living who do actually need temperatures that are scorching, in order to be able to survive. Perhaps they are beings that are able to breathe carbon dioxide and do not rely on oxygen or water in order to be able to survive. Perhaps if people want to be successful in searching for aliens then they need to alter the patterns and conditions of the search.
In 2011, Denise Stoner and I met to discuss the commonalities that alien abduction experiencers share. As longtime abduction investigators/researchers, we were aware of certain repeating patterns of information and characteristics. The pertinent literature, the academic social science studies and the works of David Jacobs, PhD, Thomas Bullard, PhD, and the late Budd Hopkins, John Mack, MD, and others had identified several commonalities among abduction experiencers. But we had not been able to locate an academic study that was specific to our particular interests. I earned a B.A. degree in social work from the University of New Hampshire in 1971, and participated in graduate studies in education at the University of Cincinnati and U.N.H., while working as a teacher and education services coordinator. My primary academic interest has been in social research and psychology. I left my job in 1990 to pursue a career as a UFO investigator, researcher and writer. As the niece of Betty and Barney Hill and witness to the primary evidence and aftermath of their alien abduction in 1961, I had been aware of the UFO phenomenon for more than fifty years. My book (with nuclear physicist/scientific ufologist Stanton T. Friedman), Captured! The Betty and Barney Hill UFO Experience was published in 2007 and our second book Science Was Wrong was published in 2010. I had surveyed the psychological studies on self identified abduction experiencers for a chapter on alien abduction in SWW and a research paper I prepared for the MUFON 2010 International UFO Symposium Proceedings. In addition to my independent research, I am also Florida MUFON’s Director of Abduction Studies and the National Director of the Abduction Research Team.
Denise has an educational background in business and psychology, and is a certified hypnotist specializing in regressive hypnosis. For 12 years Denise did background investigations for the military on recruits seeking highly classified clearances for work on nuclear submarines. Prior to retirement, Denise moved to a military research facility where she was the training coordinator for several hundred military and civilian employees. For the past several years, Denise has expanded her work with UFO research and investigation. She is an independent abduction researcher and hosts a study group for abduction experiencers and public interest meetings on the UFO phenomenon in general. She is Florida MUFON’s Asst. Director of Abduction Studies and the former Chief Investigator for the state.
At our study’s inception our stated goals were to benefit abduction experiencers by identifying specific traits that they have in common with other experiencers, and to expand the UFO research community’s knowledge of alien abduction phenomena. The most efficient scientific method for obtaining this information, in our opinion, was through the use of simple straightforward questionnaires, designed to identify commonalities among the UFO abduction experiencers. Each of us brought to the table knowledge of several unique, unpublicized characteristics of the alien abduction experience. The commonalities study would ascertain how widespread these commonalities are across the abduction experiencer population. We developed three questionnaires: The “UFO Abduction Experiencer Questionnaire” listed 45 multiple choice questions pertaining to experiencer’s demographics, abduction memories, emotional responses, physiological responses, and psychic phenomena. The second questionnaire, the “Abduction Experiencer E.T. Technology Questionnaire” would increase our knowledge of E.T. technology. The third, “Commonalities among Non-Abductees Questionnaire” queried individuals who denied having been abducted by aliens. It was developed after the first two questionnaires had been available for several months, and a commonalities trend had emerged. The 16 multiple choice questions would determine whether or not some of the commonalities among abduction experiencers are common across the general population. We established a minimum sample size of 50 completed questionnaires for abduction experiencers (AE) and 25 for non-abduction experiencers (NAE). There were 54 participants in the “UFO Abduction Experiencer Questionnaire”, but 4 questionnaires could not be tallied because they were too incomplete.
The “Abduction Experiencer E.T. Technology Questionnaire” study is not yet complete, as there have been only 24 responses to date. This can be attributed to the fact that a much smaller percentage of experiencers have clear recall of the craft’s interior and the technology observed. This part of the study is ongoing. Participants for our study were solicited via the MUFON UFO Journal and several alien abduction and UFO oriented websites. We also appeared on several radio shows and invited listeners to participate. Last, there were questionnaires at my vendor table at several UFO conferences and at Denise’s meetings. I posted the questionnaires, a letter of explanation, and an informed consent notice on my website at www.kathleen-marden.com. We communicated to participants that all questionnaires would be kept in a locked and secure location and destroyed at the end of the study. All personal identifying information that was volunteered would remain confidential. As a cautionary measure, we advised all potential participants that they should only complete the questionnaire if they could do so without feeling uncomfortable.
Demographics
Nearly twice as many women (32), as men (18) completed the “Abduction Experiencer Questionnaire”. Does this indicate that abduction is far more prevalent among women? Not necessarily so. Statistical evidence indicates that men are less likely than women to answer surveys of any kind. But this trend was not supported when we tallied the results of the “Commonalities among Non-Abductees Questionnaire”. The majority of respondents were men (15) as opposed to women (9). If trends in human behavior have not skewed the results, it suggests that more women than men have been abducted by aliens. This finding has been widely reported by other researchers. We were interested in identifying possible trends among age groups, partly due to the fact that a significant number of abduction experiencers in the 50+ age group had reported their experiences to us within recent months. Our intuition was correct. 44% of the AE Group participants were born in the 1950’s, although only 20% of the NAE Group was in the same age group. This figure drops dramatically for those born in the 1940’s (18%) and the 1960’s (26%). Could these statistics indicate that the human abduction program began slowly, perhaps during the 1950’s and 60’s, and was in full swing beginning in the 1970’s? Could this signify that the alien abduction program is winding down? Or could it be that younger people are less likely to fill out questionnaires? Only 12% of the AE Group respondents were under age 40. Yet 24% of the NAE Group was under 40.
We asked each group to identify the size of their area of residence. A survey of the relevant literature indicated that more UFOs were sighted in less populated areas than in large cities in the 1960’s and 70’s. Also, the majority of well investigated, famous abduction cases (Villas Boas, Hill, Walton, Buff Ledge, Casey CO., etc.), took place in rural areas. Yet the late Budd Hopkins wrote of alien abduction in New York City. We wanted to test whether or not a trend could be established. . AE Group—Area of Residence: Rural (15), Small Town (13), Suburban (13 ), Urban (9) . NAE Group—Area of Residence: Rural (3), Small Town (5), Suburban (12), Urban (5) The AE participants’ area of residence was fairly evenly divided among abduction experiencers, with 30% residing in a rural area, 26% in small towns, 26% in suburbs, and 18% in an urban area. 12% of the NAE group resides in a rural area, 20% in a small town, 48% in the suburbs and 20% in an urban area. These statistics indicate that no trend could be established. Slightly more experiencers (12%) are taken from a rural environment than from an urban area. But the difference is not statistically significant.
We wanted to determine if alien abduction is more prevalent one area of the US than another. . AE Group—Time Zone: Eastern (33), Central (10), Mountain (2), Pacific (4), Eastern Australia (1) . NAE Group—Time Zone: Eastern (20), Central (4), Mountain (0), Pacific (0), British (1) 66% of the AE group resides in the Eastern Time Zone, 20% Central, 4% Mountain, 8% Pacific, and 2% in foreign countries. These statistics are a bit perplexing. We asked, “Are there more abduction experiencers living in the Eastern US than in all other regions combined? Or did more people in the Eastern US listen to our radio interviews?” The NAE questionnaire answered this question. 80% reside in the Eastern Time Zone, 16% Central, 0% Mountain, 0% Pacific, and 4% in Great Britain. The majority of participants in both groups reside in the Eastern US. Therefore, the AE group presents no valid evidence that more experiencers reside in the Eastern US than elsewhere. The majority of abduction experiencers believe that they have been taken repeatedly over a number of years or throughout their lifetime.
We wanted to determine how frequently contact occurs. How many times do you think you’ve been taken?
*1 time only (2), 2-5 (8), 6-10 (4), More than 10 (25), Not certain (8), no answer (3) 64%
25 of 39 of those who could quantify their abductions stated that they have been taken more than 10 times. The next largest group was those who could not state a specific number, followed by the 2-5 range. This is a significant finding because the majority of abduction experiencers believe that their alien contact occurs periodically throughout their lifetime. Only two participants stated that they had been taken only one time. This is interesting because their answers on the questionnaire revealed that they had little in common with multiple abduction experiencers. Many experiencers believe that they have been taken since they were small children. We asked for this information.
* Age when first abduction occurred? Under 5 (18), 5-9 (10), 10-19 (7), Over 20 (7), Not sure (8) 83%
35 of 42 of the respondents who could qualify their age at the time of their first abduction indicated that they were under age 20 when their first abduction occurred. 51% (18 of 35) were under 5. In another question we asked how frequently their visitations had occurred. 68% stated that their abductions occurred most frequently when they were under age 30. However, a surprising 21% of the over 40 group stated that their contacts are still frequent. A clear pattern of frequency across all age groups could not be established. Only 20% stated that they had been taken more than one time per month. An equal number are not sure how often they’ve been visited by ETs. Others replied from one time per month to 2-3 times per year.
Abduction Memories
This section of the questionnaire is divided into four parts with subcategories. 1. Conscious recall 2. Emotional responses 3. Physiological responses 4. Psi phenomena
Conscious recall
* 88% stated that their abduction memories were consciously recalled; 56% through dreams; 36% through hypnosis; 16% through other means such as flashbacks.
* 67% stated that they consciously recalled (not with hypnosis), the observation of an unconventional craft at less than 1000 feet prior to an abduction. . 56% stated that they consciously recalled (not with hypnosis), the observation of non-human entities immediately prior to an abduction while they were outside their home. 76% indicated that they were not alone when they were taken.
* 62% of the witnesses had conscious recall for at least part of the experience.
* 43% stated that witnesses reported the observation of a UFO near their house, vehicle, tent, etc. prior to or during their abduction.
* 58% stated that they are aware of having been examined on an alien craft.
These highly significant statistics reveal that the majority of the respondents had conscious recall of at least one abduction experience and were not alone when it occurred. More than half remembered observing a craft at less than 1000 feet and non-human entities prior to at least one abduction experience. We are often led by media sources to believe that the majority of abduction experiencers are procured exclusively from their bedrooms and have no witnesses. The Marden-Stoner study indicates that this perception is false.
Emotional Responses
(These open ended questions were not conducive to statistical analysis.)
* We asked, “What is your typical response to abduction?” More than one response was permitted. The most predominant reply was fear (26), followed by curiosity (23). 12 indicated that they felt despair and 11 felt pleasure. (More than one response was permitted.)
*We asked, “How did you feel after an abduction experience?” 15 stated that they felt angry. 15 felt tired, exhausted or physically drained and unwell. 11 were fearful. Only 3 felt peaceful.
We wanted to test several hypotheses pertaining to emotional stability as a factor in alien abduction experiences. Is there an increased sense of sadness among experiencers? Are there more mood swings among this group? Is there mood consistency throughout one’s lifetime? Respondents were permitted to check more than one answer.
* AE Group—On a daily basis, how would you describe your mood? Happy (15), Sad (7), Frequent mood swings (6), Without unusual highs and lows (25)
* NAE Group –On a daily basis, how would you describe your mood? Happy (15), Sad (0), Frequent mood swings (4), Without unusual highs and lows (6).
* AE Group—As a child, how would you describe your mood? Happy (13), Sad (13), Frequent mood swings (5), Without unusual highs and lows (14), Anxious (7).
* NAE Group—As a child, how would you describe your mood? Happy (10), Sad (0), Frequent mood swings (4), Without unusual highs and lows (10), Anxious (2).
The majority of respondents in both groups stated that they are happy or do not have unusual highs or lows. It is interesting that a higher percentage of the NAE group reported frequent mood swings on a daily basis than the AE group. But a small percentage of the the AE group reported that they experienced more sadness as adults. Several of the “sad” and “frequent mood swings” AE respondents reported that they had been the victims of childhood abuse. Their feelings of sadness and their mood swings have persisted throughout their lifetime. This group was more likely to report abuse by their ET captors. Additionally, those who reported traumatic memories of being abused by ETs are more likely to feel sad as adults. The majority of respondents reported that they used one or more coping mechanisms to deal with their fear or anxiety due to their abduction experiences. Only 3 reported that they have no fear. Coping mechanisms that give relief to experiencers include talking with a supportive, non- judgmental person, meditation or relaxation exercises, prayer and writing about their experiences.
We were interested in the sleep patterns of abduction experiencers. Did they have difficulty falling asleep and/or staying asleep? Could this be related to a fear of abduction? Or were other factors involved?
* Do you have difficulty falling asleep? Yes (37) No (13) . Staying asleep? Yes (35), No (14). (1 respondent did not answer the second part of the question.)
74% of the AE group had difficulty falling asleep and 71% had difficulty staying asleep. 7 of the 8 people (16%) who indicated that they sleep well throughout the night attributed it to overcoming their fear of abduction. This is a very small percentage, but it might be an indicator that the loss of fear improves sleep quality. Only 1 person who reported the absence of fear has difficulty falling and staying asleep and that person is in the 60+ group. We speculated that since 44% of the respondents are in the 50-59 group, and since older people tend to experience more sleep problems, that the results might have been skewed by this factor. The evidence did not bear this out. In fact, 5 of the restful sleepers are in the 50-59 age range. It is interesting, however, that all but one person in the over 60 group reported sleep problems regardless of whether or not they were fearful. 2 individuals in the under 40 group reported that they do not have sleep difficulties, and neither has a fear of abduction. The remaining 4 had difficulty falling asleep, but once they were asleep they were able to sleep through the night. (These questions were not on the NAE questionnaire.)
Physiological Responses
Alien implants have been widely reported in UFO abduction literature thanks to the work of Dr. Roger Leir and Derrel Sims. We wanted to ascertain the percentage of experiencers that suspected they have a palpable alien implant. It was also important to us to ask where the implants are located in the human body. 40 of the 50 respondents replied to this question. . We asked, “Can you feel a foreign object in your body that you suspect is an alien implant?” Yes (21), No (19). If yes, where is it located? 53% believe that they can feel an alien implant in their body. The majority of participants indicated that it is located in their head, including the following: temple, eye, nose, behind ear, inside ear, groin, and eyebrow. Other areas mentioned are in the spine, lower leg, hand, chest and vagina. Unexplained marks, such as patterned bruises, scoop marks, puncture wounds, and rashes are commonly reported by abduction experiencers. (I am collecting and cataloguing experiencers’ photographic evidence.)
* AE Group—Have you awoken with unexplained marks on your body?” Yes (40), No (8), No answer (2)
* NAE Group—Have you awoken with unexplained marks on your body? Yes (5), No (20).
A highly significant 83% of the AE Group stated that they had awoken with unexplained marks on their bodies, whereas only 20% of the NAE group replied in the affirmative. Long, thin bruises were most often found on women’s calves, thighs or buttocks, suggesting finger marks. Patterned bruises were found on the upper arm. Scoop marks were reported on arms, ankles, behind knees, or on feet. Puncture wounds were found on hands and rib cages, although one woman reported a vaginal puncture wound. Burn marks were on upper backs and sunburn like rashes were reported, sometimes on the entire body.
Several participants mentioned plastic-like filaments, the size of a strand of hair, coming from various locations on their bodies.
* We asked,” Has your nose bled immediately following an abduction? Yes (26 ), No (23), not sure (1) A significant 52% replied in the affirmative. Several mentioned significant scarring in their nasal cavity that had been of concern to their physicians. One mentioned that his physician found a strange metal object high in the respondent’s nasal passage.
* We asked, “Have you noticed strange skin rashes immediately following an abduction?” Yes (17), No (29), Not sure (4)
37% of those who answered yes or no have noticed rashes on their body following an encounter. Earlier in the history of alien abduction, burns on one’s neck or upper back, hair loss and conjunctivitis were reported. An example of this is the 1976 Casey County, KY abduction of Elaine Thomas, Louise Smith and Mona Stafford. We wanted to know if these problems have persisted.
* We asked, “Have you ever suffered burns, hair loss, or conjunctivitis following an abduction?” Yes (11), No (34), Not sure (4)
22% of the respondents stated that they had suffered burns, hair loss or conjunctivitis following an abduction experience. One participant stated that her sunburn-like rash was accompanied by a pins and needles tingling sensation after an abduction in 1978. She and several others reported that one or both eyes were red and swollen following a contact experience. One participant stated that she suffered a combination of all three physical affects in 1988. We were interested in determining whether or not participants had undergone changes in their blood chemistry or bleeding disorders after an abduction experience.
* We asked, “Has your doctor noted changes in your blood chemistry, blood clotting easily, or bleeding too freely after an abduction?” Yes (9), No (41)
One respondent was diagnosed with a clotting disorder. Another mentioned problems with vitamin D and iron absorption. Others mentioned consistently high white blood cell counts.
Our next question did not pertain specifically to our research findings and we did not anticipate the result.
* AE Group—Do you crave excessive amounts of salt? Yes (29), No (18), No answer (3)
* NAE Group—Do you crave excessive amounts of salt? Yes (3), No (22)
62% of the AE Group craves salt, whereas only 12% of the NAE Group does. Dehydration is the most common cause of salt cravings. Although rare, Addison’s disease is caused when the adrenal gland does not produce enough of the hormone cortisol. One might speculate that if the adrenal glands are continually tapped by ongoing stress due to alien abduction, it could lead to adrenal distress that is characterized by symptoms of fatigue, insomnia and salt cravings. However, this is another condition that is best studied by the medical community.
The following questions regarding physical affects were on the questionnaire. The answers are self explanatory.
* After your abduction did you notice any of the following? 1.More acute hearing? Yes 28% 2.More sensitive to light? Yes 56% 3.More allergies? Yes 36% 4.More fluctuation in your mood? Yes 34%
* Has your doctor noted changes in your blood chemistry, such as blood clotting easily, or bleeding too freely after an abduction? Yes 18%, No 82%
The following questions were asked of the AE and NAE Groups:
* AE Group—Do you suffer from migraine headaches? Yes (20), No (26), No reply (4)
* NAE Group—Do you suffer from migraine headaches? Yes (2), No (23) 43%
20 of 46 of the AE Group suffers from migraine headaches (moderate to severe pulsing headaches that last 4-72 hours and worsen with physical activity, whereas only 8% of the NAE Group does. Medical studies indicate that only 10-12% of the general population suffers from migraines. This is a highly significant finding indicating that abduction experiencers suffer from migraine headaches at a considerably higher rate than the non-abduction experiencers that participated in our study, and the general population.
Gynecological problems among female abduction experiencers have been widely reported in UFO abduction literature. We wanted to obtain statistics on the prevalence of these disorders.
* AE Group—If you are a female, have you experienced gynecological problems? Yes (22), No (10)
* NAE Group—If you are a female, have you experienced gynecological problems? Yes (3 ), No (6)
A significant 69% of the AE Group reported that they had experienced gynecological problems, whereas 33% of the NAE Group made the same report. Two respondents from the AE Group mentioned that they had tested positive for pregnancy, but then were not pregnant, and there was no cramping or bleeding. The sample size in the NAE Group is too small to draw an acceptable comparison. We found it interesting, however, that three of the women in this group that answered “yes” had more in common with the AE group than the NAE group on all of the questions.
Several years ago, a study revealed that a high percentage of abduction experiencers suffer from Chronic Fatigue and Immune Dysfunction Syndrome, sometimes called Chronic or Reactivating Mononucleosis. Affecting less than 1% of the US population, CFIDS can be a devastating disorder. 2.5% of the US population has the symptoms, but no formal diagnosis. These include debilitating fatigue that is not improved by bed rest; problems with concentration and short term memory; flu-like symptoms; word finding problems; reading retention difficulties; and ambulation difficulties due to balance problems. It is not a depressive disorder. Medical researchers have noted immune, neurological, and endocrine abnormalities in CFIDS sufferers. 25% of sufferers are bedridden and 50% cannot work during flare-ups. We decided to revisit this question when we asked the following:
* Have you been diagnosed as having Chronic Fatigue Syndrome or Reactivated Mononucleosis? Yes (18), No (30).
2 respondents stated that they CFIDS symptoms but no formal diagnosis. 38% of the participants in our study have a CFIDS or RM diagnosis, whereas less than 1% of the US population has this diagnosis. This is a highly significant finding. Reports of such a high rate of CFIDS among abduction experiencers should be taken seriously by the medical community. One has to wonder if the alien environment is causing illness among humans. Are the ET’s experiments passing this syndrome to experiencers? Could it be caused by the alien technology that allows the transfer of a human body through a solid structure? Is it an adrenal response caused by one’s persistent fear of abduction? Is it the result of a sleep disorder? Is it a retrovirus created by ETs?
Psi Phenomena
Psi phenomena, such as telepathy, clairvoyance, psychokinesis, psychic healing, out of body experiences, etc. have long been associated with the alien abduction phenomenon. It is both perplexing and troubling to investigators. Many are not inclined to investigate reports of events that seem more like imagination than reality. Some consider it an embarrassment to the scientific study of UFOs and would prefer to sweep it under the rug. Others feel that they are not equipped to investigate psi phenomena. Yet, abduction experiencers consistently report being transported through solid surfaces, telepathic communication, light orbs that expand into non-human entities, poltergeist activity in their homes (soon after a contact experience), and new psychic abilities. In an attempt not to lead the participants to specific information we referred to these phenomena as “paranormal” rather than ghost related, mystical or psychic. The Free Dictionary defines paranormal as “Beyond the range of normal experience or scientific explanation.” We developed 7 questions pertaining to these phenomena.
* AE Group—Have you witnessed paranormal activity in your home? Yes (43), No (6), No answer (1). If so, please describe it.
* NAE Group—Have you witnessed paranormal activity in your home? Yes (11) 44%, No (14) 56%. If so, please describe it.
88% of the abduction experiencers reported that they had witnessed paranormal activity in their homes, including light orbs that dart or float through the air. Sometimes the orbs pop like a bubble into 1-3 ETs. Many reported poltergeist activity such as household items flying through the air, pictures flying off walls, lights turning off and on, windows opening and closing, doors opening and closing and toilets flushing on their own. 44% of the NAE Group reported paranormal activities in their homes, but there was a slight variation between the AE and the NAE Groups. They reported ghosts, shadow people, spirits, mist clouds, strange sounds, strange odors, and cold spots. One respondent reported light orbs, but she had all of the characteristics of an abduction experiencer. A small percentage (4%) of the AE group reported ghost-like activity such as invisible beings that had weight in their beds and temperature changes in their home environment. For example, a room was 56 degrees although the thermostat was set at 83 degrees. We were struck by and hadn’t anticipated the high percentage (44%) of paranormal activity reports by the NAE Group, as early on in this part of the study only a tiny percentage of the NAE group had reported paranormal activity. This increased dramatically following my interview on a popular paranormal radio show. In order to determine whether or not the paranormal activity is directly tied to the alien abduction experience, we asked:
* Did it begin prior to or after your first abduction? Prior to (13), After (22), Not sure (3), no answer (5)
It is significant that 51% of the participants reported that their paranormal activity began after their first abduction experience. Many commented that this activity is not ongoing, but occurs immediately prior to or after a contact event.
The next question pertains to telepathic communication. We were interested in determining whether or not all communication between the “visitors” and the experiencers was telepathic.
* AE Group—Have you ever received telepathic messages from your visitors? Yes (44), No (6)
* NAE Group—Have you ever received telepathic messages? Yes (8), No (17 )
A statistically significant 88% of the AE Group reported telepathic communication with their visitors, whereas only 32% of the non-experiencers reported telepathic communication. Many experiencers reported that they “sensed” a contact experience was about to occur or received a telepathic message prior to its onset. It is interesting to note that 2 of those who answered “No” reported having only one abduction experience.
* We asked those who answered yes, “Was the telepathic communication related to an abduction experience? Yes (30), No (2), not sure (1), No answer (11).
91% of those in the EA Group that answered the question replied in the affirmative. The next two questions are closely related.
* Are you more or less “sensitive” or intuitive than you were prior to your abduction experience? More (36 ), Less (0), about the same (8), Not sure (6)
*. Did you develop new psychic abilities after your abduction experience? Yes (26), No (7), Maybe (2), No answer (15)
72% stated that they are more sensitive or intuitive than they were prior to contact. 79% stated that they developed new psychic abilities after a contact experience. One person reported that they have always been psychic and another noted that his or her psychic abilities increased. The following question was worded to ask whether or not abduction experiencers discovered that they had the ability to heal others following an abduction experience.
* Do you feel you have been given a gift of healing following an abduction experience? Yes (25), No (18), Don’t know (5), No answer (1)
50% stated that noted that they were able to heal others for at least a short period following an abduction experience. This gift persisted for an extended period of time for some of the participants, but not for others. 2% mentioned that they had always been healers.
Miscellaneous
Kay Wilson, a well-known abduction experiencer, had written about her “invisibility” experience in an airport and two additional abduction experiencers reported to us that they, at times, felt literally invisible. We decided to determine whether or not others have experienced this sensation by asking, “Do you ever feel that you are literally invisible and others can’t see you? It is interesting that 25% answered in the affirmative.
Blood types, Rh factors, and ancestral genetic links have long been of interest to alien abduction researchers. We decided to inquire about blood types. . AE Group—What is your blood type? A (17), B (1), O (10), AB (1) Positive? (15) Negative? (8 ) . NAE Group—What is your blood type? A (9), B (1), O (6), AB (2). Positive? (10) Negative? (2 ) 29 AE Group participants responded to the question. Of these 59% is type A and 34% is type O. Because 66% of the respondents reside in the Eastern Time Zone, we researched the distribution of blood types throughout the US. It is estimated that 20-25% of the US population residing in the Northeast and East-Central has type A blood and 70-80% are type O. Does this indicate that there is an elevated percentage of A blood types among abduction experiencers? We compared our statistics to the NAE Group and found that 50% are type A and 33% type O. This indicates that the majority of participants in both groups are type A regardless of whether or not they have experienced alien abduction. We then evaluated the Rh factor knowing that 85% of all humans have Rh+ blood types. We found an elevated percentage of Rh- Factor (35%) among abduction experiencers. The Stanford School of Medicine Blood Center reports that 6.3% of their collected blood types are A negative and 6.6% are O negative. This elevated percentage among abduction experiencers could be significant. Among the NAE Group 83% had a positive Rh factor and 17% were negative indicating that both groups had elevated Rh negative blood types. It is interesting that a significantly higher percentage (18%) of AE Group reported a negative RH factor than in the NAE Group. However, many participants did not know their blood type, so the sample size is too small to be considered statistically reliable.
Throughout the history of alien abduction electrical malfunctions have been widely reported. We decided to address this issue in our questionnaire.
* AE Group—Following an abduction, did you ever experience malfunctions of electrical equipment such as lights, digital watches, computers, etc? Yes (34), No (16)
* NAE Group—Have you ever experienced malfunctions of electrical equipment such as lights, digital watches, computers, etc. for no obvious reason? Yes (8), No (17)
68% of the AE Group reported experiencing malfunctions of electrical equipment, whereas only 32% of the NAE Group had the same experience. The AE Group reported malfunctioning computers, watches, appliances, radios, televisions, cameras and compasses. Some reported that light bulbs blow out or blink off and on and the hands on their watches spin. One participant stated that the time clock at his place of employment malfunctions only for him. The NAE group mentioned that street lights blink out when they drive or walk under them. This has also been reported to me by abduction experiencers. Another stated that when she became emotionally upset light bulbs would “shoot in the room I was standing in.” Both groups reported that televisions, appliances and computers would automatically switch themselves off and on.
Conclusion and Discussion
After we had excluded the demographic information and the open ended questions, we were left with 37 questions that could be analyzed for correlating information. Of these we found 23 positive, statistically significant correlations among abduction experiencers. A pattern emerged indicating that the majority of abduction experiencers had conscious recall of at least one event and were with a witness who also recalled the experience. They had a close encounter with an unconventional craft and sometimes observed its occupants. They are aware of having been examined aboard a craft and were left with perplexing, unexplained marks on their bodies. Slightly more than half had a nose bleed immediately after an experience. Women reported an elevated percentage of gynecological problems that appear to be related to reproductive procedures performed by alien entities. The vast majority was revisited—some more than 10 times—and was taken from their homes to an alien craft. Often the abduction experiencers sensed an impending visitation by alien entities before it occurred. The mode of communication between alien entities and humans is almost entirely telepathic. A new psychic awareness has emerged in the majority of experiencers and about half have found that they now have new healing abilities. Immediately before or soon after a visitation they become aware of paranormal activity in their homes, such as light orbs, objects flying through the air or from walls, doors opening and closing without assistance, etc. The majority noticed malfunctioning electrical equipment, appliances, watches, computers, TVs, radios, cameras, etc. Slightly more than half developed a new sensitivity to light and now crave salt. They feel a foreign object in their body and are fearful of being abducted again. Most have difficulty falling asleep and remaining asleep throughout the night. Those who have resolved their fearfulness are more likely to sleep restfully.
Finally, we want to express our sincere gratitude to those who participated in this study. It wasn’t an easy task. We asked them to visit my website and copy the 45 question or 16 question form. Then we requested that they fill in the multiple choice questions and add their comments and accounts of their personal experiences that would elucidate us regarding their specific information. They were then asked to mail their questionnaires to me or to return them via email. Although it required some effort on their part, it reduced the possibility that hoaxers would intentionally sabotage the study. In the end, we were very pleased with the knowledge we gained and the opportunity it gave us to support abduction experiencers and expand the UFO research community’s knowledge of the alien abduction phenomenon.

Faces On Mars, Alien Satellites and Moon Bases: 5 ‘Unexplained’ NASA Photos Explained
Space is filled with many strange and wondrous things, some of which are currently not fully understood by modern science. Space is also filled with many mundane and simple things, some of which are also not fully understood by the people of Earth who are desperate to find something else out there.
This is where alien sightings, UFOs and other associated conspiracy theories come in. The often grainy nature of space photography means it is not hard to find flying saucers, little green men and more in NASA pictures. Let’s take a look at some of them and try to figure out what they really are.

The Face of Cydonia
When NASA’s Viking 1 was circling Mars in 1976 it sent back some extraordinary photos of the Red Planet’s surface. On of them in particular appeared to show an eerie face looking right back at the camera.
The photo was a huge sensation, and NASA hoped it would inspire interest in its Mars missions. It certainly grabbed the public’s attention and it wasn’t long before people were talking about ancient alien structures, pyramids and ancestors on Mars.
What Is It Really?
The face is merely a large mesa rock formation that doesn’t even particularly look much like a face. Admittedly the original image does resemble a face, but this is due to the low quality of the early camera. Its ‘eyes’ and ‘mouth’ are merely shadows, while the nostril is merely a black spot caused by limitations in transferring photos at the time (you can see hundreds of them spread throughout the photo).
Subsequent missions to Mars made it a priority to photograph Cydonia. With every mission came improvements with camera technology as well as pictures which debunked the ‘alien face monument’ theory. One of the most recent photos shows quite clearly it is simply a geographic formation.
2. The Black Knight Satellite
Another well-known space conspiracy theory concerns a supposed alien satellite which is orbiting the polar regions of Earth and broadcasting a strange message. Some claim it has been there for 13,000 years and constitutes a welcome invitation from an advanced alien race.
Known as the Black Knight, it is claimed that it has been photograpged several times, such as the examples below:
What Is It Really?
These photos are often captioned as ‘unexplained’, but that’s a blatant fallacy. NASA know exactly what it is. It’s a thermal blanket which became detached during an EVA aboard Endeavor’s STS-88 mission. There’s even a video of NASA’s personnel aboard the Endeavor filming it float away. Watch that below:
Despite this explanation, the claims these pictures are an ancient alien satellite persist. In reality, all the claims regarding the Black Knight have been categorically debunked.
3. Apollo 16 UFO
When returning from the moon on April 27, 1972, the Apollo 16 crew filmed a few seconds of film from the window of their spacecraft. The 16 mm film was later described as containing “a saucer-shaped object with a dome on top.” None of the crew reported seeing a UFO at the time, but this hasn’t stopped UFO experts from claiming they were being shadowed by an alien craft. Watch the video below:
What Is It Really?
The interest surrounding the video was so great, NASA conducted an investigation into the object. After digitally improving the picture and conducting frame by frame analysis, they discovered the object had a “linear feature” attached to one side (above). Eventually, they deduced it was nothing more than the floodlight boom used for EVA missions.
4. The Woman on Mars
When NASA’s Spirit Rover was trundling around Mars looking for signs of water, it seemed to have found something much more spectacular – a Martian woman.
The image, sent back from Mars, appears to show a figure just chilling out on a rock and seemingly unaware of the massive NASA rover only a few meters away. Of course, many saw this as proof of life on Mars.
What Is It Really?
This one probably isn’t that surprising, but the Martian Woman is in fact just a rock – and not even a particularly big one. Astronomer Phil Plait explained:
Talk about a tempest in a teacup! The rock on Mars is actually just a few inches high and a few yards from the camera. A few million years of Martian winds sculpted it into an odd shape, which happens to look like, well, a Bigfoot! It’s just our natural tendency to see familiar shapes in random objects.
Plait is referring to a well-known psychological phenomenon known as pareidolia, which causes humans to often find familiar things (such as faces and bodies) in random shapes. This woman isn’t the only example of pareidolia on Mars – in fact they are dozens of them, including rats, dragon skulls and alien skulls.
5. Buildings On The Moon
A Youtube video claiming to feature dozens of leaked images from NASA included this curious picture which it says shows buildings on the surface of the moon.
What Is Really Going On Here?
Of course, there’s a lot in this picture which doesn’t make sense, like for example, why does the moon appears to have foliage and a pond nearby. But, more importantly, many people have seen that building before – and not on the moon.
The building is in fact a photoshopped image of Iran’s Ardeshir Palace, one of the oldest and best known Sassanid palaces. It’s notable domes as well as its nearby road and domes are all clearly visible in the picture above.
