10 spacecraft hit by massive solar flare, says ESA
The space weather event, known as a coronal mass ejection (CME), was observed by three satellites operating outside the path of the flare, namely ESA’s Proba-2, the ESA-NASA joint project SOHO and NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory, in October 2014.
This powerful solar eruption captured by SOHO in October 2014 was tracked through the Solar System by 10 spacecraft
The ESA’s Olivier Witasse had been leading the space agency’s Mars Express, a project examining the effect of the comet Siding Spring on the atmosphere of the Red Planet. During the research, the team detected signs of the CME on Mars and, in the subsequent investigation, accessed data collected by the 10 spacecraft in its path.
“CME speeds with distance from the sun is not well understood, in particular in the outer Solar System,”said Witasse. “Thanks to the precise timings of numerous in situ measurements, we can better understand the process.”
The data gives an indication of the speed, distance and direction of travel of the CME, with the effects of the flare reportedly felt by NASA’s Voyager-2, then at the edge of the solar system approaching Pluto.
After emission, the solar flare travelled at speeds of up to 1,000km per second (6,000 miles per second) before slowing to 500km/sec after reaching the Cassini space probe in November 2014.
Luckily, Earth was not in the CME’s path – a phenomenon that scientists say has potential to be hugely damaging to our way of life.
Experts have warned that a powerful geomagnetic storm would likely knock out power grids, communications and satellite technology, causing trillions of dollars worth of damage to the global economy. They even cite as evidence the 1859 ‘Carrington Event’ in which a solar flare knocked out telegraph systems all over Europe and North America.
Most people believe in at least one conspiracy theory. A conspiracy theory usually contradicts the usual, popularly-accepted version of an event or phenomena. People continue to believe a theory in the hope that they will eventually be proven right.
1. 9/11 was an inside job
The terrorist attacks on 11 September 2001 were actually orchestrated by the US government.
The theory is that the jet fuel from the planes was not enough to melt the steel beams of the World Trade Center towers. The buildings were brought down by a controlled demolition.
One reason for the theory’s longevity is that it has been proven that the war in Iraq was justified by using false information about the existence of so called weapons of mass destruction.
2. A secret group controls the world
This elite group is mostly referred to as the Illuminati and it has been controlling the world for centuries. Its end game is to create a New World Order which will dissolve national boundaries and people’s identities while allowing for total authoritarian control.
Other versions of this theory see other groups in a similar position of world domination – the Freemasons, the Jewish people, the Bilderberg Group or the “globalists” that are often invoked in the right wing media. President Trump himself mentions “globalists” and invokes fighting against insidious “elites” as a battle cry for his base.
3. The moon landing didn’t happen
The moon landing did not happen and evidence was orchestrated by NASA and the US government to make them seem superior to the Soviet Union and to boost national pride.
NASA faked the landings to avoid humiliation and to ensure that it continued to get funding.
Moon-landing conspiracists focus heavily on NASA photos. They point to oddities in photos and films taken on the Moon.
Another theory is that Stanley Kubrick, director and producer of 2001: A Space Odyssey was the mastermind behind the fake footage of the moon landing.
4. Roswell, Area 51 and aliens
The remains of an alien spacecraft that crashed near Roswell, New Mexico in 1947 are stored at Area 51, a top-secret military base about 250 km from Las Vegas where government scientists conduct research on alien technology and time travel.
This theory is partly fueled by UFO sightings in the area and the testimony of a retired army colonel who says he was given access to extraterrestrial materials from Roswell.
The US government’s secrecy about Area 51 and the fact that information about it is classified “for purposes of national security” is further proof that the military is hiding aliens or alien spacecraft.
5. Reptilians are running the world
Famously espoused by David Icke, this is another version of secret groups controlling the world. According to a national survey 12 million Americans believe this theory.
The belief is that the top echelons of governments are controlled by shape-shifting reptilian aliens, who have been wielding power over humans for thousands of years to turn them into mindless slaves.
6. Chemtrails
The lines of clouds in a clear blue sky are actually “chemtrails” – chemicals sprayed by the government to control the population.
The purpose of the claimed chemical release may be solar radiation management, psychological manipulation, human population control, weather modification, or biological or chemical warfare. The trails are causing respiratory illnesses and other health problems.
7. The Holocaust never happened
In spite of a well-documented historical fact that six million Jews were exterminated by German Nazis during the second world war there are people who believe the Holocaust did not happen.
Only about 54 percent of the world’s population has heard of the Holocaust, according to a large 100-country survey by the Anti-Defamation League. Only a third of those who’ve heard of it believe the Holocaust is portrayed correctly
I’m writing this column from my hotel room in Roswell, N.M. Roswell is, of course, famous for the alleged alien crash landing that happened in 1947.
Roswell also happens to be the last leg of my family’s summer vacation. We opted for a two-week vacation instead of our customary one week because we had a lot of places we’ve always wanted to visit.
My husband had absolutely no interest in visiting Roswell and hearing about aliens, but my son and I couldn’t wait to get here. While it’s been a blast hearing about the supposed cover-up at Roswell (and I’ll keep my opinion about that to myself), most of the alien-like sightings we’ve had during this trip haven’t been at Roswell.
They’ve been at the slew of national parks we’ve visited on our trip – places like Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, White Sands National Monument, the Grand Tetons and Lake Mead.
We had planned for months to visit these places, but we only learned right before we left that we qualified for free entry into all national parks we visited because my child had just completed fourth grade. Under a program established by then President Barack Obama, all fourth-graders and their families receive free entry into any of the national parks they visit. Hopefully, this program continues, so more families can experience the natural beauty these parks have to offer.
While we would have visited these places regardless of what we were charged to see them, having free access saved us a bundle.
I think introducing kids who are in middle school to national parks is a great idea because they are at such an influential age. A trip to Yellowstone may put them on a career path they may have never considered.
Plus, it gives them a sense of ownership. My daughter felt like a special guest of the parks we entered. She had her own card that gave us free access, and the employees would ask where our fourth-grader was when we pulled up to the admission gates. She’d wave her hand like a celebrity, and we’d get right in. And now, as our trip is winding down, that card will serve as a unique souvenir of the biggest trip we’ve ever taken together.
It will help her remember the mind-blowing things we saw, the natural landscapes that made us feel like we were the aliens on a whole different planet entirely. That card will remind her of the world-famous geysers we saw at Yellowstone, and the things we didn’t even know existed like the colorful geyser basins and the Dragon’s Mouth formation that hinted at the enormous volcanic pressure under our feet at Yellowstone.
Years from now, that card may spark a memory for her of the half-mile walk we took down into the Grand Canyon – a walk that consisted of a narrow dirt path and no handrails in sight. Although we had all obviously heard of the wonder of the Grand Canyon, hearing about it and seeing it in person are two different things entirely. Walking down that pathway, I felt like a visitor on the planet I have lived on all my life. It was completely foreign from anything I had ever seen.
Another alien-like place we visited was White Sands National Monument in New Mexico. The giant white sand dunes there are completely cool to the touch, unlike beach sand. The dunes are so tall, we rented sleds to slide down them as if it was winter in summertime. I couldn’t let my kids have all the fun so I slid down them too, laughing as I wiped out on the particularly steep dunes. The whole landscape seemed like something you might see in Star Wars movies instead of here on Earth.
But while the landscape we saw may have seemed extraterrestrial, we also saw flashes of human creativity and ingenuity everywhere we went. There were roads built through mountains and tales about people conquering the wilderness of the Grand Canyon long before they had any sort of technology to help them.
We saw a bottle forest in California – a man had created it alongside the highway. For whatever reason when he looked at an empty bottle, he didn’t see it as junk. He saw it as a piece of a glass tree and he built a forest of those trees for people to enjoy at no cost. It might seem like a strange thing to do, but it was a spectacular sight.
I’ve always been fascinated by the idea of aliens, ever since I was little. But as it turns out, you don’t have to look to the skies to spot something that looks like it belongs on another world. You just have to explore the places and people that are already on our planet. There’s still plenty of wonder here if you look hard enough.

There appears to have been something in the air in June. According to an international group of alien hunters, the number of UFO sightings doubled last month. High-profile sightings last month included one of a 'flying saucer' UFO which visited Stonehenge
OKLAHOMA CITY – Exactly 14 years to the day, before I was born, when U.S. Sen. John F. Kennedy first used the term “missile gap” – a phrase that was later parodied in Stanley Kubrick’s Cold War classic Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb and called a “Doomsday gap.”
In that film, which was scheduled to be previewed by film critics on Nov. 22, 1963 – but was held off because it was the same day Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas – the Russian ambassador explains that his government had heard – via The New York Times! – that it was reported the U.S. was also working on a “Doomsday machine.” An arms race of insanity.
“We were afraid of a Doomsday gap,” the ambassador tells President Muffley (Peter Sellers).
After the assassination, Kubrick and Columbia Pictures opted to hold off screening the anti-war farce until a few weeks later, in early 1964.
But that “Doomsday gap” comment, in retrospect, comes off as a backhanded criticism of Kennedy’s presumed militarism.
It happened on August 14, 1958. The same year Kennedy was re-elected to a second term in the Senate, representing Massachusetts. But he was also planning a run for the presidency in 1960 and began pounding away at President Eisenhower and the Republicans about being “weak on defense.”
Why? The Soviet Union had launched Sputnik in 1957 and Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev announced that the USSR had an ICBM with a range of 8,000 miles and that they were in “mass production.”
Kennedy said: “Our Nation could have afforded, and can afford now, the steps necessary to close the missile gap.”
Naturally, this being the Cold War, there was concern about this and so certain interests wanted to ramp up production of America’s nuclear arsenal in those dark days of the Cold War, leading up to the October 1962 missile crisis – nearly two years after outgoing President Eisenhower warned Americans of the growing “military-industrial complex.”
Nevertheless, Kennedy wanted to appear strong on defense and so initially (and unwittingly) Kennedy used inflated numbers provided to him by U.S. Sen. Stuart Symington (D-Mo.). Symington was a former Secretary of the Air Force from 1947-50, who provided those inflated U.S. Air Force numbers.
Coincidentally, Symington was head of the U.S. Air Force when Project Sign was initiated in 1948 , a government study of the UFO phenomenon, and its follow-up, in 1949, Project Grudge. Sec. Symington likely knew A LOT about the UFO mystery he did not share with his Show-Me State constituents or the rest of the American people.
These would lead up to the launching of the notorious Project Blue Book (1952-69), which was later viewed as a government project designed to actually cover-up real reports of UFOs.
Curiously, Sen. Symington’s cousin, Fife Symington III, was governor of Arizona when the widely-reported “Phoenix Lights” UFO sighting occurred in March 1997.
At the time, due to public pressure and so many witnesses, Gov. Symington said he was going to investigate the mass UFO sighting over Arizona’s capital city, only to later hold a press conference and bring out his chief of staff in an alien costume – making the whole thing a big joke.
But 10 years later, Symington made a major admission, saying he actually saw the UFO himself, calling it a “great mystery.”
“It was enormous and inexplicable. Who knows where it came from? A lot of people saw it, and I saw it too. It was dramatic. And it couldn't have been flares because it was too symmetrical. It had a geometric outline, a constant shape.”
KENNEDY & UFOs
So, with the Cold War heating up during Kennedy’s term as president, it is said that he had a serious affair with actress and starlet Marilyn Monroe in the years leading up to her death (allegedly a suicide induced by an overdose of pills)
In a book I read and reviewed – Dr. Donald R. Burleson’s UFOs and the Murder of Marilyn Monroe, the author alleges the Kennedy brothers had Monroe killed because she allegedly “knew too much” and had evidence kept in a secret diary. Apparently, Monroe was upset that she was being increasingly left out in the cold by the Kennedys. She felt used and wanted revenge and allegedly planned to hold a press conference about “what she knew.”
Was this about Kennedy’s acknowledgement that the UFO “threat” was real? Classified investigations were taking place during the Kennedy administration as they were during the Eisenhower years, presumably with their knowledge. This was the era when most Americans "trusted" their government. Sure, secret projects were being conducted, many assumed, but with our best interest in mind, right?
As I noted in my review: “Apparently, Marilyn Monroe was aware of not only the crashed Roswell saucer, but of JFK’s plans to kill Cuba’s Fidel Castro.”
And then there was Kennedy's assassination a little over a year later. A lot of high weirdness surrounding that horrific event in our history.
CRISIS MODE
Again, this was in late summer of 1962, just weeks before those 13 days in October, better known as the “Cuban Missile Crisis.” With tensions between the U.S. and USSR at their heightes, particularly over concerns regarding Soviet ballistic missile deployment in Cuba – 90 miles from American shores – the Joint Chiefs of Staff wanted to attack and invade the island nation, controlled by Fidel Castro.
“Direct aggression against Cuba would mean nuclear war,” said Ernesto “Che” Guevara , as reported in The Times of London in an article headlined: “Attack us at your peril, Cocky Cuba warns U.S.”
Che Guevara would be executed five years later in remote Bolivia under suspicious circumstances, as we’ve noted before.
Fortunately, cooler heads prevailed back in '62 and a nuclear exchange was avoided. But the nukes never really went away. Many still exist and more countries now have nukes, as North Korea has announced. And with the egomaniacal and crazed Kim Jong-un in power, it seems as though these two bad-haired narcissists are bringing the world ever closer to World War III.
REPEATER
History has a funny – and frightening – way of repeating itself. Look at the tensions between right and left here in the United States. With the U.S. Civil War having ended 152 years ago, we seem to be fighting the same battles again, while addressing issues regarding race and equality that have not been adequately addressed for all these years, as things came to a head last week in Charlottesville, Virginia, which left a 32-year old protester, Heather Heyer, dead - and Nazi sympathizers practically gleeful.
And yet President Trump sends signals to American fascists, racists and Nazi sympathizers that while he may not support them, the anti-fascist groups are equally bad.
A meme making the rounds notes that that is similar to the Star Wars rebels fighting the Empire being compared and on a “level-playing field” with the planet-destroying Death Star.
As author and Dartmouth College lecturer Mark Bray, an expert on “Antifa,” told Democracy Nowthis week: "And, you know, President Trump’s comments that the alt—quote-unquote, "alt-left" and alt-right are equivalent moral forces is really historically misinformed and morally bankrupt. The anti-fascist movement has a global history that stretches back over—about a century. You can trace them to Italian opposition to Mussolini’s Blackshirts, German opposition to Hitler’s Brownshirts, anti-fascists from around the world who had traveled to Spain to fight in the Spanish Civil War.
Over the past four years I have devoted a lot of time studying the history of the Spanish Civil War. While this was a conflict between fascists and anti-fascists in Spain, international help came from around the world, including the United States. People like longtime Dougherty, Okla. resident and congressional candidate Eugene V. "Debs" Poling, who left Oklahoma to fight the Gen. Franco's fascists in the late 1930's, only to be given a hard time - like so many other American anti-fascist volunteers - when we entered World War II, as being "premature anti-fascists."
That, of course, is absurd. Ask yourself: Is there ever a bad time to oppose fascism? Here at Red Dirt Report we have been warning readers for a long time now that fascism would truly take root in this country if Trump was elected president, as we predicted in a December 2015 article "Trumpism and the fascist menace."
But many people, in those months before the election, did not want to believe that Trump truly held such odious views and was not willing to wholeheartedly condemn white nationalists, racists and fascists from the get-go. Here in Oklahoma, some of Trump's most vocal supporters were people like the disgraced State Sen. Ralph Shortey (R-OKC) and Islamophobic legislator State Rep. John Bennett, a Republican from Sallisaw.
Isn't there something to be said about "the company you keep"?
In any event, Trump's ongoing "dog-whistle politics" helped elect him and now he seems to be doubling down as Democrats, and a few Republicans, call for Trump's censure over his repugnant "defense of white supremacists," as House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi of California said in a statement today.
But back to that Democracy Now interview with Mark Bray and the anti-fascists opposing Trump and the growing fascist menace in America:
More recently, modern antifa can largely trace its roots to the anti-fascist movement in Britain in the ’70s, and the postwar period more generally, that was responding to a xenophobic backlash against predominantly Caribbean and South Asian migration, also to the German autonomous movement of the ’80s, which, really, after the fall of the Berlin Wall, had to respond to a really unprecedented neo-Nazi wave—unprecedented in the postwar period, of course.”
We should also note, in regards to the Spanish Civil War template, that international volunteers from around the world have been coming to the northern Syria area of Rojava to help the leftist YPG (People's Protection Units) fight ISIS and other related butchers and madmen running amok in that corner of the world. One wonders if Trump is aware of the egalitarian and anti-fascist YPG and what they actually stand for, considering YPG spokespeople said this week that the U.S. intends to stay in that autonomous region "for decades to come."
KING MIDAS IN REVERSE, WITH NUKES
Meanwhile, back in Washington (and at a few town halls, including here in Oklahoma) you see formerly spineless Republicans starting to back away from toxic Trump, who, despite his mass wealth, is a sort of “King Midas in Reverse" and causing the GOP to sink ever deeper into the shithole of their own making.
And when that is the case, where everything you touch turns to shit, it gets mega-scary when one thinks about the power a president has, particularly when it comes to the threat of thermonuclear war.
Today, in the New York Post, North Korea’s Deputy United Nations Ambassador Kim In Ryong said that if the Trump administration keeps up its “hostile policy and nuclear threat,” they will never put their nuclear weapons program “on the negotiating table.”
And with Trump's administration is full-scale crisis mode and more rats ("the best people!") flee that sinking ship, we can only wonder what horrors and doom lie just around the corner.
I'll end with a "letter to the editor" we received from Oklahoma City resident Frank Silovsky. He has distinct memories of those 13 days in October 1962 when the world was at the precipice of a global thermonuclear war.
Never will I forget that October day in 1962 when I sat in my dorm room "frozen" by the image of President Kennedy announcing to the nation that he had ordered our navy to stop and search every Soviet vessel heading to Cuba for the possibility of finding and removing missile launchers and/or nuclear explosives. Armageddon seemed nigh! That had been my deepest sense of impending doom. Until now.
Khrushchev and Kennedy had both experienced the horror of war so their steady hands averted ultimate war.
We are presently experiencing a very different and even stronger possibility of nuclear war. To our horror, the competing nations this time are led by two absolutely uninformed, bombastic, immature heads of state with no concept of war playing "chicken" with nuclear weapons!
North Koreans are helpless under their mad dictator. However, we have our illustrious Constitution providing ways to prevent "mad leadership" from dooming us. The 25th Amendment could eliminate our half of the madness. Is there time? Is there the courage? "We the people" can determine our fate
Mysterious phenomena one after another have been baffling the citizens in China. After "floating city" and smoke ring incident, another phenomenon stunned the citizens in China.
Bizzare footage showing a rectangle-shaped mysterious object hovering in the sky in China's Jinan city has left the residents baffled. The video, which was taken on August 13, shows the unidentified rectangular object in the night sky.
Several people shared the footage on social media site Weibo wondering what is the mysterious object. Some people said that the object looks like a mobile phone, while some said it is a flying magic carpet. However, several others said that it is just a projection onto clouds.
"It looks like a mobile phone!" one user said.
"The door of heaven is open," another commented.
"Above is a flying carpet."
According to local reports, the mysterious light is nothing but a spotlight projection.
According to local reports, the mysterious light is nothing but a spotlight projection.
This is the second time a mysterious object was spotted in China that left the citizens puzzled. Last week, several beachgoers spotted a mysterious smoke ring over a Jinshitan beach, northeastern China. Hundreds of people recorded the footage before it vanished into the clouds.
"There is an unidentified flying object appearing in the sky. Its oval shape is expanding and it is coming towards us closer and closer," one onlooker said in a video.
People initially thought that it is a mysterious object, but later social media users solved the puzzle and said it is just a visual effect from a performance nearby. Even the spokesperson of the event confirmed that the smoke ring is from the sky.
"Whenever the show started, they shot out a black smoke ring," one commentator said.

Nazis. Has there ever been a greater villain or evil force out there? Throughout history they have not only served to be the perpetrators of horrific acts, but also the target of numerous, countless conspiracy theories and strange tales. They really manage to fit whatever the creepy story calls for, and there are many such stories. Among the many are the rumors that the Nazis had a secretive, cover base in the cold depths of the continent of Antarctica, a tale which in itself has spread out to cover many facets of the weird. Yet there is one accounting particular that I feel is particularly surreal and odd. It is a harrowing and horrific tale of soldiers out in the frigid elements, fighting not only the landscape itself, but unknown entities dwelling within it. In short, it is the perfect story of Nazi bizarreness.
Before beginning, it is first perhaps best to first understand a little of the history surrounding the legends of secret Nazi bases buried in Antarctica. The Nazis did indeed come to this bleak, remote wasteland of a continent, but officially only once. The expedition in question was carried out from December 1938 to April 1939, and involved a small contingent sent to Antarctica aboard the vessel Schwabenland. While this all sounds rather ominous, the expedition was mostly exploratory in nature, involving marine science, collection of specimens, surveying, mapping in the region, in particular the western part of Queen Maud Land, and it also had the intention of staking a claim to whaling rights in the region, which were being monopolized by Britain and Norway at the time. The expedition went about its work and left, with no real evidence that they ever even began to build any sort of permanent base there, and this was the only time they went to Antarctica at the time, with further planned expeditions apparently scrapped with the coming of World War II. The next time the Germans would ever set foot in Antarctica was with a Russian expedition in 1959. Officially anyway.
Some of the original Nazi expedition to Antarctica
Of course since this is the Nazis we are talking about here, conspiracies of a German Antarctic base were immediately flying around even at the time, with the facility being claimed to be a gathering place for German occultists, scientists, and various members of shadowy groups such as the Illuminati. Such tales were only fueled by cryptic alleged statements made by German naval admiral Karl Dönitz, who would go on to be president of Germany in the wake of Hitler’s death, who said that they had just such a base, claiming it was an “invulnerable fortress, a paradise-like oasis in the middle of eternal ice,” as well as alleged reports from Argentina in 1945 that a German U-boat had been captured there that was found to be responsible for ferrying Hitler and other high ranking officlas from Germany to Antarctica. From here the legends and myths of a Nazi Antarctic base really took off, and covered the full spectrum of wild conspiracy theories, with claims ranging from the Nazis experimenting with UFO technology, to discoveries of ancient civilizations, to alien lizard people living under the ice, to stashing stolen artwork there, to claims that Hitler had been whisked away to the base for his own protection rather than dying, to the idea that it was meant to be the launching point for a shadowy, sinister new world order.
One of the events that really cemented the idea of a Nazi base in Antarctica into persistent lore was a very real operation called Operation Highjump, a 1947 American led military mission which was to be the largest scale expedition to the continent ever mounted, involving 4700 men, 33 aircraft, and 13 ships. The official reason for this massive operation was to train troops for fighting and test vehicles and equipment in extreme cold and icy conditions in case a war broke out with Russia in the Arctic, as well as to establish a U.S. presence in Antarctica to counter any Russian activity there. Of course, with such a large military expedition to the continent and rumors already swirling of a Nazi base there, it was not long at all before conspiracies were drawn to it like moths to a flame.
The main idea behind these theories was that the U.S. actually went there to hunt down and destroy any remaining German troops stationed at their Antarctic base. Despite the fact that the Germans had already surrendered and the war was over, the Nazis were claimed to still be operating in secret in Antarctica, and it was thought that Operation Highjump was sent to wipe them out once and for all. The theory really takes a sharp right turn into weirdness with claims that the U.S. force met resistance from Germans utilizing “flying saucers” and other assorted alien weaponry, forcing the Americans to resort to annihilating them with nuclear bombs. Although there is no evidence at all that this ever happened, and despite the fact that not only was Operation Highjump carried out nowhere near anywhere the Germans had ever been to, but that none of the 11 journalists embedded with the operation made even the faintest reference to such an outlandish event, this conspiracy has remained stubbornly entrenched in the spooky lore. Only adding to the whole conspiracy was the persistent presence of British troops in Antarctica in the years after World War II, which were seen as there specifically to fight the remaining Nazis, often teaming up with the Americans to do so.
Regardless of their many permutations, rumors of secret Nazi base in Antarctica refused to die, and only picked up speed in the years after the war, helped along by an array of rumors and hearsay. In a bizarre book in 1962 by an Albert Bender, called Flying Saucers and the Three Men, the former Air Force veteran claimed that he had been abducted by aliens and taken to a secret Antarctic base, which was populated by the descendants of the reptilian beings who had originally built the facility. These aliens told him that after World War II the Germans had also been there and that they had shared their technology with them. It is all very strange to be sure, but it and other stories like it served to spark far-out conspiracy theories even further.
Stories of a Nazi base in Antarctica have continued right up to the present. Although they have consistently been debunked, they just refuse to go away. It is all bizarre to say the least, and there is certainly more to it than I have gone over here, but this is just a brief history, and the purpose of this article is not to focus merely on the idea of a Nazi Antarctic base but rather a damn strange story connected to the legend, which was originally published in Nexus Magazine, Vol. 12, #5; August-September 2005, and which involves Nazi bases in Antarctica, British SAS special forces, and Bigfoot.
The story is related by a person who claims to have been an SAS officer, who states that in October of 1945 he was called to participate in a mission so secret that even his commanding officer had no idea what was really going on. After a stop at Gibraltar, he was then whisked away with a special unit to the Falkland Islands, during which time the troops were ordered to complete silence, forbidden from talking amongst themselves or speculating about why they were there. Upon arrival at the Falkland Islands, they then for one month engaged in intensive, grueling combat training in cold winter conditions and arctic warfare, under a Norwegian who had once served in the Norwegian Resistance.
At the end of this hellish training regiment, the group was finally properly briefed on their true purpose, bing told that they had been recruited for a ultra top-secret mission to investigate anomalous activity reported at the time from a British base in Antarctica at Maudheim, in eastern Antarctica, as well as wipe out the supposed German base lying there deep under the ice, which was referred to as “Britain’s Secret War.” They were told about the secret German base located near the British Maudheim base, and briefed on the various German activities and movements in the region, as well as on the numerous German officials who had supposedly been sequestered away in the subterranean compound.
Things steadily got weirder as the briefing continued. The group was told that the original scientists stationed at the base and their armed entourage had claimed that they had found a tunnel leading beneath the ice, followed by rantings over the radio talking of “Polar Men, ancient tunnels and Nazis,” but that shortly after this contact with the British base had then been lost after an ominous last transmission that allegedly proclaimed “The Polar Men have found us!” The special forces that were gathered there were told that they were first to investigate why radio contact had been lost with the base and who the “Polar Men” were, which all sounded like a rather spooky proposition that no one present felt comfortable about. They were also told that great pains were being taken to make sure that the Americans and the Russians did not get wind of the existence of a Nazi base in Antarctica. The unit was then flown over the icy, bleak landscape of Antarctica to a remote drop-off point located around 20 miles from the British Maudheim Base, all under complete radio silence. Once on the ground, they were on their own, the only assistance provided being some snow tractors left for them to use. They then stalked their way through the icy, inhospitable terrain, ever wary of an enemy attack, until they reached the supposed entrance to the abandoned base. Although they expected the place to be bristling with activity, it was found to be oddly silent, even devoid of life. The witness would described what happened then thus:
Instantly, our suspicions were roused, but, just like all the previous campaigns I had fought during the War, we had a job to do and so our personal fears could not shroud our judgement. As we split up to search the base, a trip wire was detonated and a siren sounded, destroying the silence and startling the whole force. A shout was soon heard, demanding us to identify ourselves, but the voice could not be targeted. With our guns raised the Major introduced us to the voice, and then, thankfully, the voice was given a body. The voice belonged to a lone survivor, and what he divulged made us more anxious and had us wishing that there were more troops amongst our ranks.
What this lone survivor told them was that there was another survivor in “Bunker One,” where he was trapped within with one of the beastly “Polar Men” they had heard about. The unit decided to try and make their way to this Bunker One and try to open it, much to the objections of the survivor they had found. They warily approached the door to the isolated bunker, wondering what sort of horrors might lie within, and argued amongst themselves over who would be the first one to enter. The witness would say of what transpired next:
Fortunately, I was not selected to enter; that honour was bestowed on the youngest member of our unit. He proceeded inside, hesitating slightly as he struggled with the door. Once inside, a silence descended across the base, followed moments later by two gunshots. The door was opened and the Polar Man dashed to freedom. None of us was expecting what we saw, and the Polar Man had fled into the surrounding terrain so quick that only a few token shots were fired. Out of fear and awe at what we had seen, we all decided to go into the bunker. Go in we did, and two bodies were found. The soldier who had pulled the short straw was found with his throat ripped out, and, more heinous, the survivor had been stripped to the bones.
The death of one of their own so soon after arrival unsettled and angered the unit, and they relentlessly grilled the survivor they had found for more answers. They asked him why the dead man they had found had been stuck in the bunker in the first place, and the frightened survivor chose to tell the tale from the beginning. It turned out that the area they were in was one of Antarctica’s “dry valleys,” devoid of ice and snow, which had facilitated the discovery of the “ancient tunnel.” After that, personnel were sent to see where the tunnel led, and it turned out to stretch for miles underground before ending in a vast cavern which was supposedly warmed considerable, perhaps by geothermal action.
The deeper the expedition had gone into the cavern, the more discoveries they had made. It seemed that the Nazis had been there, as they had set up artificial lighting and built hangars and docks for U-boats in the subterranean lakes that were found strewn about, as well as inscrutable excavations down in the dark with unknown purposes. Some Nazis had apparently still been roving about, as they proceeded to capture and kill several of the survivor’s expedition. The remaining expedition members fled and tried to block the tunnel, and this was when the Polar Men had descended upon them, generating that eerie last message. The creatures in question were described as being heavily built, hairy creatures with a mix of ape and human features and possessing supernatural strength and speed.
The unit managed to retreat and make their way back to their base, but they had then split up into separate bunkers. One of these survivors had then managed to lure one of the Polar Men into his bunker and lock it in, which had later led to his death and the destruction of his radio gear. The stammering survivor then cryptically told the SAS unit that these Polar Men were the result of Nazi experimentation, although no further details were forthcoming. This revelation was immediately shot down by the unit’s scientist as hogwash, but the others gave it weight and wanted to know what the “Polar Men” wanted, which was meant with the sinister response of to “wait, watch and wonder just how different we taste.” With this alarming revelation, a guard detail was allegedly set up to keep watch, and the next day they were ordered to investigate the tunnel for themselves. They made their way to the entrance in the dry valley which the survivor had told them about, and the witness would say:
Upon arriving in the dry valley we were all amazed, for we had been told that Antarctica was completely ice-bound and yet here we were in a valley that reminded me of being back in the North African Sahara. We were forbidden from even approaching the tunnel until the temporary base camp had been erected; and whilst the men constructed the base, the scientist and Major investigated the tunnel.
After a few hours, they returned to the now complete camp to chronicle what they had seen and what our next plan of action was to be. The tunnel was not an ancient passageway at all, claimed the scientist, although the Major added that the walls were made of smooth granite and looked infinite. We were informed that we would be able to make our own minds up after we had rested for the night.
Unfortunately, that night these strange creatures would come to them in the darkness, and one of them was apparently shot and killed when it ventured too close. The team scientist ascertained that the thing was some sort of hairy, cold adapted human, and the corpse was purportedly put on ice for further later study. When morning arrived, the Major and the survivor went on into the tunnel with a small contingent of men as the others waited behind to guard against further attacks and keep the mysterious corpse safe. They eventually reached the cavern the survivor had spoken of, which was artificially lit just as described, and they had to be careful to stay in the shadows and hide from the various Nazi forces that were buzzing about as they slowly went about laying mines and explosives. The unit was apparently spotted and pursued by both Nazi soldiers and the ape-like Polar Men, and the witness would describe the next part of the tale thus:
Upon reaching the tunnel, we needed to put an obstacle in the way to slow down our enemy long enough for the mines to detonate. Some mines were placed at the entrance to the tunnel, and when the explosions were heard we were hopeful that not just the base had been comprehensively destroyed but so, too, the enemy forces giving chase. We were wrong. The mines did indeed close the tunnel, but, for those Nazis and Polar Men behind, the chase was still on. In a fighting retreat, only three of the 10 escaped the tunnel: the Norwegian, the scientist and myself. The rest had fallen gallantly in making sure that some of the party survived.
The unit supposedly managed to escape to the entrance of the tunnel and close it for good with explosives, leaving little evidence that it had ever been there at all. The unit was subsequently disbanded and sent their own ways, after being told that they were strictly forbidden from ever discussing what they had seen. The team’s scientist would go on to try and explain it all away, saying that the Polar Men had merely been “unkept, insane soldiers,” but the rest of the group knew better. The mission in the meantime was swept under the rug and never made official.
It is all a very dramatic report and full of quite cinematic imagery, but it was truly reported as happening in just this way, and I have not embellished it at all. I have to say it is one of the more far-out accounts I have ever seen, and you can read a fuller transcription of this account here. It could be a completely fabricated story or just another of the many, many outlandish Nazi tales out there, but it certainly is quite an entertaining read. Make of it what you will. As ridiculous as this report may sound, it serves to add yet another twisted, very odd tale to the pile of Nazi lore out there already. Nazis just have a way of drawing such tales to them, and they have made the perfect villains and conspiracy targets for decades. Among all of the weird tales and conspiracies, I would have to say captive Bigfoot-like creatures at a secret base in Antarctica has to rank up there on the meter of the bizarre.
An ominous “cloud tsunami” rolls in along the coast of Sydney, Australia, on Friday, signaling the coming of severe storms for the area.
The massive formation, actually called a shelf cloud, stunned Australians, with a flurry of photos hitting social media.
The Australian Bureau of Meteorology issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the area with possible threats of large hail storms, heavy rains and forceful winds.
Powerful thunderstorms hit parts of Australia throughout the past week.
Meanwhile, New Yorkers and their neighbors enjoyed an unseasonably warm day on Friday, with record highs in the Big Apple, as well as in Connecticut.
The National Weather Service reported temps of up to 75 degrees in New York City, a high for Nov. 6 ( via nypost.com ).
amanda_knaptonJust been standing on the sheer cliff face with the sun setting amongst those epic clouds above me and whales breaching beneath me - intensely beautiful!
At first look the obscure cloud resembles a meteorite trail or tornado, frozen in time, seconds before the impending doom. At second glance,it looks more like a freakycloud formation.
João Paulo Magalhães captured the cloud in all its glory at 5pm in the city of Teixeira de Freitas, in the extreme south of the Brazilian state of Bahia.
Magalhães said while the “very unusual” cloud remained only about four minutes, people were worried it would form a tornado.
“It really looked like the entrance to a meteorite or something,” he said.
Other residents posted pictures of the freaky phenomenon, some calling it the “work of God”.

UFOs hidden in clouds - Flying Saucer emerging from cloud formation
Many people throughout the world have captured images of strange looking UFO-shaped clouds.
The impressive thing is that, while in most cases the weird phenomenon can be explained as ordinary clouds, there are special clouds that seemed to be made artificially.
UFO-hunters are convinced that UFO’s are hidden inside these special cloud formations to monitor us.
The video below is an interesting compilation of UFO’s who have camouflaged their self inside unnatural looking cloud formations, including a flying saucer emerging from a cloud.
For any Mars exploration plans, surviving on the Red Planet is as important as getting there. This is why NASA is looking forward to its Mars 2020 Rover mission, which would include a test for making oxygen on the Red Planet's surface.
SMALL STEPS FOR MAN
Getting to Mars is the biggest space project this generation will ever see, that is until we actually land people on the red planet. Such a bold endeavor has a cornucopia of nitty-gritty details to iron out, in one way or another, before proceeding with a manned mission. The most obvious is the need to build rockets and spacecraft able to ferry probes and people. For NASA’s mission to Mars, this also entails the construction of a lunar space station that’ll serve as a jump-off point to the rest of the solar system.
Speaking to Futurism after the successful launch of SpaceX’s CRS-12 mission on Monday, NASA Acting Chief Administrator Robert Lightfoot, Jr. explained how getting to Mars requires small, incremental steps. “When you look at our plans today [for getting to Mars], we use the International Space Station as much as we can…for example, our life support systems, we test them up there.” He added that the Moon would be the next logical step in this process.
But getting to Mars and surviving there are two disparate yet equally important aspects of the same mission. “We try and make sure that, when we do a science mission or a human spaceflight mission, that we have a cross between the science and the human exploration,” Lightfoot explained.
MAKING LIFE POSSIBLE
Now no one wants to fly to Mars, land on the ground, yawp “I did it!”, turn around and head home. Space exploration is more than symbolic pretense. We want to stay on Mars and install a colony. Of course, the eventual plan is to terraform Mars, but that could take thousands of years to accomplish — if it’s at all possible. So, in Lightfoot’s mind, we ought to start small, and there’s nothing more basic for survival on Mars (or anywhere) than having a secure source of air to breathe. “The next lander that is going to Mars, Mars 2020, has an experiment where we are going to try and actually generate oxygen out of the atmosphere on Mars, clearly that’s for human capability down the road,” Lightfoot said.
What we know is that the Red Planet’s atmosphere is thinner than Earths, with some 95.32 percent carbon dioxide, 2.7 percent nitrogen, 1.6 percent argon, and about 0.13 oxygen, plus a bunch of other elements in even smaller amounts. By contrast, the Earth’s atmosphere has 78 percent nitrogen and 21 percent oxygen. Water won’t be much of a problem, though.
Is it possible to make oxygen from Mar’s atmosphere? NASA’s had plans for this since 2014, when it first revealed the Mars 2020 Rover. It involves bringing some microbial life to Mars, perhaps bacteria or algae, that would would use Martian soil as fuel and then pump out oxygen as a product. The oxygen could then be harnessed and made available for breathing and also to make rocket fuel for return flights to Earth.
It may sound like science fiction right now, but lab experiments have shown that it’s possible. That’s why the Mars 2020 Rover mission is crucial. Other efforts to make Mars habitable include plans of building a magnetic shield around the planet, similar to Earth’s, building a nuclear reactor, as well as growing potatoes like in Matt Damon in The Martian.
Accounts of close encounters of the third kind, in which human beings are directly confronted with alleged beings from another world, are by nature already quite bizarre and otherworldly enough as it is. There is no denying that this is an area that has pushed out and stretched against the boundaries of the strange and then some, yet there are some cases among these that truly rocket out into the outer fringes of the surreal and the deeply weird. From space goblins to floating brains, to amorphous blobs from beyond and spacemen that can fit in the palm of your hand, here we will look at the strangest of the strange when it comes to supposed contact with aliens from another world.
One of the earlier, weirdest, and indeed more famous of accounts that seem almost too bizarre to possibly be true is the infamous case of what have become known as the the Hopskinsville Goblins. The story begins at a remote, rural farmhouse in the wilds of Christian County, Kentucky, on Old Madisonville Road near the town of Hopkinsville on the night of August 21, 1955. On this quiet evening the Sutton family had a guest over by the name of Billy Ray Taylor, as well as his wife, June, and at at some point Taylor went outside to get some water from the well at around sundown. As he made his way to the well, he allegedly saw a bizarre sight in the air above, which looked like a streaking light that was spewing multicolored sparks and flames all over the place. The light passed overhead and then seemed to drop down into a nearby gully around 300 yards away, after which the humid night was infused with an eldritch glow, and the startled Taylor ran back to the safety of the house.
Once inside, he excitedly told everyone about what he had just seen, but at the time no one really believed him and they thought he was just messing around, despite his obvious fear and insistence that he had really seen it. However skeptical the rest of the family was, they would soon have a change of heart when the dog began to start barking wildly at some unseen trespasser outside in dark. Looking outside it was noticed that what was at first thought to be just a faint light that was seemingly bobbing about and approaching the house, and as it drew closer it was found to be one of the strangest looking creatures anyone present had ever seen or even imagined.
There hovering in the air was a small glowing humanoid figure around 3-feet in height wearing a metallic suit of some sort. It was described as having greenish skin, bulging eyes, and an oversized bald head with bat-like ears and a large, lipless mouth that stretched between them. The body was thin, and its arms were long, tapered and spider-like, tipped with what looked like talons. The frightened Suttons quickly did the human thing, gathering up a rifle and shotgun as the thing hovered around outside, and when it was close enough they fired upon it. Although they thought they had hit it, the creature merely flipped over and retreated into the shadows. Shortly after this, the head of another, either the same creature or another, peeked in through one of the windows, prompting another volley of fire that once again failed to do any noticeable damage to whatever it was, merely blowing out the window in a spray of shards of glass as the strange monster ran off.
Curious as to whether they had hurt the thing or not, Taylor and the Sutton father, John Charley Sutton, warily crept outside, guns at the ready, and took a furtive glance around. At first there was nothing, but then Taylor let out a scream as a clawed hand purportedly reached down from the eve of the back door and grabbed at his head, managing to gain a fistful of hair as Sutton dragged his friend back inside and slammed the door. The oldest Sutton son, 24-year-old Lucky Sutton, then opened the door to take a potshot at the roof with his shotgun, after which the creature floated down to the ground, apparently unhurt, and scampered off.
As bizarre and terrifying as this all was, there soon appeared other entities similar in appearance to the original one they had seen out in the night, and it became apparent that they were under siege by a whole group of the creatures, an estimated 10 to 15 of them. For the next three hours the sounds of the rural Kentucky night were punctuated by the staccato blare of gunfire as the mysterious floating monsters made passes at the house as the family cowered within and took shots at them. For the most part the bullets whizzing out into the murk either failed to hit their mark or were ineffectual, with the few that did hit occasionally letting out metallic pings, like “a coin hitting a metal bucket,” as if the creatures were made of steel. All of this happened against the backdrop of a faint green haze glowing from somewhere in the distance, perhaps the location where the “spaceship” had gone down in the gully.
Since the home had no phone service, the family were at the mercy of the monsters lurking outside, unable to call anyone for help and slowly running out of ammunition. At some point the activity died down, and the creatures’ relentless, seemingly aggressive yet ultimately inscrutable passes at the house ceased. Seeing this as a chance to get out of there, the family and their guests piled into their cars and sped away towards town, where they promptly informed rather bemused police of what had happened to them. As skeptical as they were, officers nevertheless made their way out to the farm to take a look, but found no sign of the reported “goblin” creatures other than the damage inflicted by all of the gunfire. In some accounts, Air Force personnel also came to the farm to investigate the strange occurrence, although it is unclear if they found anything of note.
The police left without incident and the family returned to their home, but soon after a second attack would occur, as glowing faces began to bloom out of the darkness once again, much to their horror. Once again the bizarre beasts came at the farmhouse, floating about, popping up to peer into windows, and scurrying around on the roof as the family once again opened fire, and this went on until dawn, when whatever the strange intruders were stalked off and this time did not return. From the very following day the dramatic, spooky encounter was splashed all over newspapers of the area, fanning out to become national news as reporters and the curious converged upon the farm. Faced with reporters and monster hunters camping out on their property hoping to see the creatures for themselves and the relentless, never-ending media attention focused on them, the family sold their farm and moved off.
It seems like something out of a horror movie, just so incredibly dramatic and bizarre in nature, and it has remained one of the oddest UFO accounts ever. To this day, the Hopkinsville Goblin incident has been picked apart and written of countless times, and has become one of the weirdest and most well-known alien encounters out there. What happened to these people and what was it that came down to seemingly attack them? What did these things want? Were they ever even real at all? If they were, then whatever they were, one things seems clear; they certainly seemed to have not received the warmest welcome to Earth.
Other such inexplicably bizarre alien encounter reports were made throughout the 1950s as well. In 1957, a retired teacher named Mary Starr allegedly woke up in the middle of the night in her home in Old Saybrook, Connecticut, in the U.S., to see a piercingly bright light outside of her bedroom window. The object was described as floating over her yard, and seemed to be a large craft of some type with rectangular windows on its sides. Fascinated by what she was seeing, Starr then supposedly gazed into one of the windows and could see two decidedly bizarre entities moving about within, which were about 4-feet tall. According to the witness, they had translucent cubes for heads holding within them bright red cores, rubbery bodies that were like “skirts,” and handless appendages akin to tentacles. After a moment of observing the outlandish beings, the windows then apparently vanished as if they had never been there, and an antenna or protrusion of some sort came out of the craft, after which the whole thing began to glow before silently shooting straight up into the night sky.
The following year, in 1958, there was a weird account from Sweden, in which witnesses Stig Rydberg and Hans Gustafsson claimed to have been driving along a remote road through a thick fog at around 3 AM when they spotted a UFO measuring around 12 feet across and ringed by four “jelly bags” that were blue in color and which jumped wildly about through the air around the main craft. As the two men stopped their car to look on at the unusual sight, the four entities then reportedly descended and attacked them, demonstrating some sort of suction power with which they grabbed the witnesses and began pulling them up to the craft. The two horrified witnesses claimed that they had tried to struggle to get away, but that their arms and legs merely sank into bodies composed of gelatinous ooze that smelled like “ether and burnt sausage.” Somehow Rydberg managed to squirm free, after which he laid on the car horn and this apparently startled the creatures enough for them to drop the other man and retreat into their ship to take off into the night at astronomical speeds. The two men would say that they felt sick for days after the encounter with the “space blobs.”
The 1970s really brought a wealth of such incredibly bizarre apparent alien encounters, and some of the best can be found in this era. On August 19, 1970 there was a curious encounter in the country of Malaysia. On this day, six children were apparently playing in a forested area when a tiny UFO measuring around 3 feet across came down to land in a clearing, after which five miniature, 3-inch tall humanoids descended out of the vehicle wearing odd blue spacesuits and one in a yellow helmet adorned with spikes. The diminutive beings then marched over to a tree and seemed to be busying themselves with installing some sort of mechanical device to a tree. One of the kids apparently went over and tried to grab one of the little creatures, and it promptly shot at him with a “ray gun,” injuring his thigh. Interestingly, there have been many other such sightings of mini UFOs and humanoid beings in Malaysia as well, with the witnesses typically being children.
The following year, on August 17, 1971, there was a perhaps even stranger alien encounter from Palos Verdes, California. Witnesses John Hodges and Pete Rodriguez were allegedly headed to their car at 2 AM when they saw off through the trees a faint, mysterious glow emanating from beyond. They got into their car, switched on the headlights, and their suspended in the beams of light from their vehicle were what were described as two large, blueish entities that looked just like disembodied human brains, hovering right in the middle of the road and surrounded by clouds of vapor that seemed to cling to them. The larger one of the “brains” was described as having a prominent red eye set within it, and this is the one that began to move towards the vehicle for purposes unknown.
The two terrified men understandably got out of there as fast as they possibly could, and it was later noticed that they had 2 hours of missing time. In 1976, Hodges would undergo hypnotic regression after years of being plagued by nightmares and wondering what had happened to them out on that lonely road. Under hypnosis, Hodges revealed that he had dropped Rodriquez off at home and arrived at his own house to find the larger brain waiting for him there, which had then telepathically spoken to him. He claimed that he had then been taken into the brains’ ship to some sort of “control room,” where it was revealed that they were merely telepathic tools being used by other aliens, this time more akin to the “grey” aliens typically described in more mainstream reports, although in this case they stood over 7-feet tall.
These master aliens then apparently showed Hodges various images of nuclear war and destruction as they explained that the human race had grown too powerful for its own good. He was also shown another planet that had been completely destroyed by another race that had met the same fate, and was admonished that humankind would be the “instruments of their own fate,” telling him, “Take the time to understand yourselves. The time draws near when you shall need to!” Hodges then says that he felt a potent buzzing sensation in the back of his head and found himself back in his own car. In the years after, he became convinced that these aliens had implanted him with what he called a “translator cell,” and that he received frequent telepathic communications from them through this device, in which they made dire predictions such as an apocalyptic war in the Middle East and the future widespread use of nuclear weapons. Whether you think this story and its “space brains” has any truth to it at all or not, you have to admit it is a damn strange tale all the same.
Also quite unusual is the encounter reported by Charles Hickson and Calvin Parker, who on October 11, 1973, were fishing on the Pascagoula River in Mississippi. As they cast their lines out they suddenly began to hear a series of strange hissing, whirring noises coming from behind them. When they turned around to look, they apparently came face to face with an egg-shaped spacecraft hovering over the river not far away, and a door then opened to regurgitate forth baffling creatures that really defy any easy classification. There standing in the doorway of the craft were three 6-foot tall beings with grey leathery, wrinkled skin and thin, carrot-like protrusions jutting out of their heads. The hands and feet were said to be fused into pinchers, and the eyes and mouths were just slits.
Just as they were reeling from the shock of seeing such a thing, the men realized that they had been somehow paralyzed by an unseen force, which kept them glued to where they were. Stuck as they were, the two witnesses made easy pickings for the bizarre aliens, who plucked them up and dragged them aboard their unearthly vessel. Hickson would later claim that he was brought aboard the ship and brought to a room with a blinding light, in which he was subjected to an examination by an oval shaped robotic probe of some sort. After around 20 minutes, the two were deposited back onto the bank of the river and the mysterious craft floated off. Hickson then claimed that he had found Parker on the riverbank as well in a rather disheveled state, crying and praying to God.
The two went back to their car and sat there in shock for an undetermined amount of time, before heading home. They would later contact the Kessler Air Force Base and the local sheriff with their bizarre tale, which went about as well as you would expect. No one really took the eyebrow-raising story seriously, but the whole case inevitably became splashed about local newspapers soon after. Hickson in particular went on to entertain questions on the matter and even help publish a book about the whole incident called UFO Contact at Pascagoula, while Parker ducked out of the limelight, and eventually moved out of state to avoid the constant media attention. For is part, Parker claimed that he had passed out at the beginning of the ordeal and only come to after it was over, only recalling bits and pieces under hypnosis.
The case was picked apart by some of the most eminent UFO researchers at the time, who for the most part agreed that the men at least really believed that what they had seen was real. The case of the Pascagoula aliens has since been met with a good amount of skepticism. It has been called everything from a shared hallucination to a flat-out lie, which has only been made more complicated by the fact that Hickson’s account only seemed to get more and more bizarre and complex as time went on. It has been suggested that they had a shared imaginary experience, that they were drinking, or even that they were just tripping balls on LSD at the time, but no one really knows what happened except the two witnesses themselves.
Moving on into 1977, there is the weird account of 19-year-old Lee Parish, who on January 27, 1977, claimed that he spied a rectangular UFO hovering in the sky before he was whisked into the air by a beam of light while driving home. He then found himself upon some sort of spacecraft, where he was presented to three very bizarre beings. One of the entities was described as being like a black “tombstone” 20-feet high, with a robotic arm extending from its front. Another of the things was smaller and looked like a red prism of some kind, while yet another was 6-feet tall and described as being a motionless white prism with two robotic arms and a “wedge-like” head, which produced strange noises like teeth being brushed.
At the time, Lee had the strong feeling that the white one was the leader, although he did not know why he had this impression. During the encounter, the red one was seen as the most anxious, seemingly afraid of their human guest and hiding behind the others, although it did at one point extend a robotic looking arm to try and touch him, which produced a vague, unsettling sensation of coldness and pain. Eventually, the three beings lined up and seemed to merge together, after which Lee felt a warmth permeate his body and soon found himself back in his vehicle, along with 38 minutes of missing time. It is all rather odd to say the least.
Moving on to 1977 we come to Paciencia, Brazil, where 33-year-old bus driver Antonia La Rubia was allegedly walking to work when he spied a rather strange object shaped like an “enormous wide hat” sitting in a field Soon after he noticed the mysterious craft, it lashed out with a thin, bright beam of light, which caught La Rubia and whisked him away to a room of pure white. Within this room were various mechanical-looking beings with bright scales and arms like tentacles, as well as egg-shaped bodies and heads adorned with what appeared to be antenna. Instead of legs, the strange creatures reportedly sat upon rigid pedestals of some sort.
After this initial meeting, the frightened La Rubia claims that he shouted at the creatures, which seemed to have the effect of making them cower in fear. He lost consciousness again, and when he awoke he says that he was now subjected to a series of images projected onto the wall, including various surreal scenes such as a dog being melted and a train entering a tunnel, the meaning of which could not be discerned. At one point during this screening of oddities and grotesqueries one of the robot beings apparently reached out to draw blood from one of La Rubia’s fingers, after which it splashed it across a wall to form a pattern of three circles and an “L” shape. At this point, La Rubia claims he lost consciousness once more, and when he awoke he was purportedly back in his car, vomiting and dizzy from the whole puzzling ordeal.
In Italy the following year there was the case of Pier Zanfretta, of Italy. On December 6, 1978, Zanfetta was working as a security guard doing his rounds when he apparently saw four bright lights approaching him. He went out to investigate with pistol drawn and saw that the source of the lights were reptilian being standing 10-feet tall, with green, saggy looking skin, heads adorned with spines, and in place of a mouth a strange breathing apparatus. Upon noticing him, these entities purportedly shot out some sort of heat beam, which sent Zanfretta running in terror. He would later be found by another security detail passed out on the ground. When the area was checked there were found to be a series of large footprints imprinted into the ground and scorched branches in the trees, lending some credence to the dramatic story the witness would weave.
Zanfretta would go on to outline several more encounters with the lizard-like beings, in which he would be brought aboard their spacecraft and experimented upon. They would also introduce themselves as beings from the planet “Teetonia.” During his last visitation in December of 1980, the aliens supposedly brought him to a mothership fashioned of a crystalline substance and shown aliens resembling frogs which were being held captive in tube-like structures and which the reptile aliens claimed were an enemy species. Other captured alien specimens in the menagerie aboard the ship were shown as well, including bird-like creatures, tiny reptilian saurian beasts, and some sort of troglodyte that looked somewhat like “a caveman.”
These are just some of the weirdest reports of alien encounters I have come across, and there are certainly others as well. What are we to make of such cases? These are creatures that do not fit at all into the traditional reports of UFO occupants, and one wonders just what this could all mean. Are these different species or races? Something from another dimension? Are they shapeshifters that just take whatever form they want, regardless of how outlandish? Or are these just the result of hallucinations, psychosis, hoaxes, tall tales, or just the effects of drugs and alcohol? Whatever the answer to these questions may be, such insanely bizarre reports certainly add color to the already colorful world of close encounters, and hint that this is a phenomenon that is perhaps even stranger and more inscrutable than anyone can guess.

Will truth about aliens soon be known? UFO sightings TRIPLE in just 16 years
Will truth about aliens soon be known? UFO sightings TRIPLE in just 16 years
THE number of reported UFO sightings across the United States has more than tripled since 2001, it has emerged.
The statistics are compiled in a new book written using the databases of two of the world's biggest organisations dedicated to logging UFO and alien reportings and encounters across the globe.
UFO Sightings Desk Reference,” written by Cheryl Costa, 65, and wife, Linda Miller Costa, 62, from Syracuse, New York, used 121,036 eyewitness accounts across the states recorded separately by the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) and the National UFO Reporting Center (NUFORC) between 2001 and 2015 to chart the increase.
The book looks at the timing and location of incidents and types of UFOs seen which include flying circles, spheres, triangles, discs, ovals, and cigars. According to Cheryl, a former military technician and aerospace analyst, and Linda, a librarian at Le Moyne College and a former librarian at the National Academy of Sciences, NASA and the Environmental Protection Agency, MUFON and NUFORC decided most sightings were explainable, but a small amount can still not be explained.
The key findings from the book were that overall numbers of UFO sightings more than tripled by 2015, from their average levels in 2001.
Harvard scientists have suggested that methane on ancient Mars may explain why it was once warm enough to support liquid water on its surface. The findings are published in Geophysical Research Letters.
What made Mars warmer in its history is a bit of a mystery. Previous theories have leaned towards carbon dioxide, which, as we know from Earth, is a decent greenhouse gas. But even though CO2 makes up 95 percent of the thin Martian atmosphere today, it can’t account for a much thicker atmosphere necessary to support significantly warmer temperatures in the past.
So, the team modeled how methane might behave in the atmosphere of Mars billions of years ago, when the Sun was 30 percent fainter than it is today (known as the faint young Sun paradox). Various geological processes are thought to have been releasing much more methane into the atmosphere back then than today.
This methane would have been slowly converted to hydrogen and other gases, a process that is sort of happening on Saturn’s moon Titan today. When the effects of methane, hydrogen, and carbon dioxide were combined, the team found they did a better job at warming early Mars than carbon dioxide alone by trapping incoming solar radiation.
“This research shows that the warming effects of both methane and hydrogen have been underestimated by a significant amount,” said Robin Wordsworth from the Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) in a statement.
In 1977, the late astronomer Carl Sagan suggested Mars could have been warmed by hydrogen in its past. But this is the first time we’ve got a good estimate of the effect it might have had, alongside methane.
And we might get a better insight into methane on Mars soon, too. ESA’s Trace Gas Orbiter (TGO) is currently in orbit around the Red Planet, with the goal of working out where the methane in the Martian atmosphere is coming from. And this may have implications for life existing on other planets.
“Early Mars is unique in the sense that it’s the one planetary environment, outside Earth, where we can say with confidence that there were at least episodic periods where life could have flourished,” said Wordsworth. “If we understand how early Mars operated, it could tell us something about the potential for finding life on other planets outside the Solar System.”
We met at Mike’s Place, the greasy spoon near Kent State with the X-Wing parked out front. It seemed appropriate – it was fifty years ago, this week, that James Evans’ father chased some kind of spacecraft into Pennsylvania. They seated us inside the converted school bus near the back of the place. He ordered biscuits and gravy and told me about what his old man saw, back in 1966.
“He didn’t like to talk about it,” James said. “And when he would, he always said, ‘I wished I’d never seen it.’”
Dale Spaur was a deputy Sheriff for Portage County in 1966. Big dude – 6’7”. Wicked sense of humor. Former gunner on a B-51 in the Korean War. He was known on the force for having a bit of a lead foot, reprimanded for taking turns too fast in his cruiser on Main Street in Ravenna. He worked the night shift with his partner, Wilbur Neff, known as “Barney” to friends. Spaur was a good cop with a good family – a wife and two boys at home. But everything changed the morning of April 17, 1966.
Spaur and Neff were called out to an abandoned vehicle on the side of State Route
224, near the town of Atwater, at about 5 a.m. It was an isolated stretch of country road, lined with trees.
They got out of their cruiser to investigate and that’s when Spaur spotted a glowing craft rising out of the woods. It reached treetop level and then began to move toward them, according to an article that appeared in the Record-Courier the following day. It was shaped sort of like an ice cream cone tipped on its side, a little pointed end sticking up in the back, and it made a sound like “an over-loaded transformer.” When it came close, they could feel the heat baking off of it. Slowly, it started east, down 224.
The two deputies returned to their cruiser and radioed in to dispatch. The sergeant on duty told them to follow it. The chase was on.
The faster Spaur pursued in his cruiser, the faster the object accelerated. Soon they were speeding east down old Route 14 into the rising sun, the odometer edging past 100 mph. Occasionally they’d have to stop for lights or traffic, though, and when they did the craft slowed down, too, like it was playing a game of “cat-and-mouse,” Spaur would later explain.
Along the way, Spaur and Neff were joined by East Palestine police officer, Wayne Huston, who followed in his own car. They chased the UFO all the way into Pennsylvania, where Spaur was finally forced to stop for gas. Another cop – Frank Panzanella – was already waiting at the service station. The four officers watched the UFO dart straight up into the sky and disappear.
By the time Spaur made it home, the local newspapers had the story. The national news picked it up and within three days, they were getting calls from Japan. At the station, Spaur and Neff were ridiculed. Neff took it in stride but it really got to Spaur, who lost twenty pounds from the stress of it all. Then men from Project Blue Book – the military’s Cold War UFO-investigation department – arrived. After interviewing everyone, they determined that the object the four police officers saw that morning was the planet Venus refracted through fog.
By all accounts, Spaur suffered an emotional breakdown after this. Within six months, he’d lost his job. His wife left with the children. In October, a Plain Dealer reporter found him living out of a motel, subsisting on peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. “Thirty-four years old and what do I have? Nothing,” he said. “Who knows me? To everyone, I’m Dale Spaur, the nut who chased a flying saucer.”
James didn’t know who his real father was until he was thirteen – after the divorce, his mother remarried and James was adopted by his stepfather. He was watching Good Morning America with his older brother, Dale Jr., when a tall man was invited on the program to talk about flying saucers.
“My mother came in and said, ‘That’s your dad.’” The boys wanted to meet him so Daneise called the television station and the show’s producers passed along her message. Two weeks later, Dale Spaur pulled into the driveway in a big pickup truck. “I remember watching him get out,” said James. “It was like he unfolded out of the truck when he stepped out, he was so big.” During his visit, he told his boys about his adventures since leaving Portage County.
It had taken time, but Spaur had finally gotten his life back together. Not long after that reporter found him at the motel, Dale moved to West Virginia, where he worked in the mines. He had a terrible accident there, falling seventy feet down a shaft, breaking his back. He lay in a coma in the hospital for several days, eyes wide open but completely out of it. “A nurse was supposed to sit with him the whole time,” said James. “But she only lasted a couple hours. I guess she came running out of the room, screaming, ‘This man is possessed by an alien!’”
When he recovered, Spaur moved back to Ohio and settled in Rocky River. He remarried, opened a bar called the Avenue at West 65th and Detroit Road in Cleveland, and on rare occasions told stories about the UFO he called “Floyd,” which he claimed visited him sometimes when nobody else was around.
Later, he did a little consulting for Stephen Spielberg’s movie, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, but walked off set in a huff after he found out the main character was not a cop, said James. The film opens with a police officer chasing a UFO shaped kind of like an ice cream cone on its side.
Spaur died on April 4th, 1983, never recovering from severe pneumonia after catching the flu. James remembers an endless stream of people he’d never seen before at his father’s funeral. He never knew his father had so many friends. “I look up and five Eskimos are standing there. Where did they come from? How did they know my father?”
I asked James what he thinks after all these years. What did his father see in the skies above Portage County fifty years ago?
“He believed what he saw was extra-terrestrial,” said James. “I believe him. Nothing we made could fly like that. In Pennsylvania, it hovered over his car. He could feel the heat coming off it. Then it went straight up and disappeared. Poof. Gone! And remember, my father served in the Air Force. You couldn’t put a bird up there he doesn’t recognize.”
If there’s definitive proof, the military has it. Spaur and Neff kept a camera in the cruiser. They took dozens of photographs. But when Blue Book came to town, the G-men confiscated the negatives. They have never been released.
A video was submitted to a UFO investigation organization showing something zipping in front of the camera during a shot of the U.S. capital building on Fox News.
The video was submitted earlier today to the Mutual UFO Network’s (MUFON) UFO reporting database. The witness did not have much to say. The report simply says, verbatim: “It flew infront of the capital building while I was watching Fox News.”
A video and a screenshot from the video were also included. The witness did indicate the sighting took place in Rolling Meadows, Illinois, presumably the city where the witness lives.
Screenshot of video provided by the witness.

In the video, the object appears to be cylindrical and shiny. It moves quickly and steadily from the bottom left of the screen to the upper right. The shape of the object might not indicate the true shape and size of whatever passed in from of the camera. The object was likely close to the camera, making it seem very large. Since it was moving so quickly, the object’s shape could also appear more elongated than it actually is.
Closeup of object in video.
In many cases such as this, birds and bugs are mistaken for something more mysterious. Motion blur cause the object to appear elongated and large, like a giant flying saucer. However, often in those cases wings flapping cause the object to look like it has ridges or multiple appendages. That effect cannot be seen in this video. I uploaded a version of the video slowed down to 10%, seen above.
So what is it? I dunno. I suppose it could also be a hoax or maybe a yellow frisbee. Take a look at the video yourself and let us know what you think.
