A weird cigar-shaped object has been caught on camera by a visitor to farm animals in Rigby, Idaho.
Visitor farm animals’ who has reported the sighting to the Mutual UFO Network, case 88945, states: Well my story is pretty simple but very interesting. On July 9, 2017 we went to see our farm animals. They are in a different location than our home. I decided to film this event. Anyways, the time I was filming, I didn't see or notice anything weird.
It wasn't until a week or so later when I replayed the movie and discovered an object going incredibly fast. I thought it might be a glare or some sort of issue with my phone camera. My phone was basically 100% new at the time, so I realized that wasn't an issue.
The object was moving so fast, I barely even noticed it in the movie playback. My eye seemed to catch it. It lasted for a brief second and vanished.
I managed to stop the video and made a GIF image of it in slow motion.
When I zoom in on it, I can see what appear to be antennas. This object was going far too fast to be man-made, but slow enough to be caught on camera.
When I seen this object, I mainly was surprised that I caught a UFO on camera. I do have the original video clip.
Multiple residents reported an amalgamation of lights was hovering in the night sky on Monday. The congregation of lights took several different forms, according to Phoenix resident Mat Siltala.
"When I first saw (the lights), they were V-shaped," Siltala said. "By the time I grabbed my camera and started shooting, it was more of a hook or candy-cane shape."
Siltala's long-exposure photograph showed the lights on an upwards trajectory, which brought him to believe the lights were not something out of this world.
"They were moving super slow and kept going higher and higher, which led me to think they were balloons holding lights or lanterns with lights," he said.
Others who snapped pictures of the nighttime event had no idea what to call it.
EJ Helzer said the lights displayed an erratic behavior.
"Honestly it's hard to say exactly what they were, but they were higher than a commercial airline that was flying by last night," he said.
Helzer, a Queen Creek resident, described the movement of the lights as "fluid."
"Some got very bright, dimmed down to nothing and then came back bright as can be," he said.
Ian Gregor of the Federal Aviation Administration said he didn't receive any reports of unusual activity over Valley skies Monday night.
Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport didn't report any calls or reports of strange happenings in the area, according to Communications Director Ryan Smith.
"We didn't give any clearance for drones, and if someone is launching something into the sky, they typically let us know," Smith said.
Lindsey Pappas, spokeswoman for Intel, a California-based technology company with two branches in Arizona, said the company had no drones in the sky on Monday night, as suspected by several posters on Reddit.
This isn't Arizona's first encounter with unexplained, airborne anomalies. The "Phoenix Lights" of 1997 is still a topic of conversation anytime someone sees something out of the ordinary in the sky.
Whether alien-craft, lanterns or meteorites, unidentified lights will always add fuel to the conversation that we are not alone in the universe.
The sighting in Queen Creek, combined with the revelations recently delivered by former Navy Pilot David Fravor, have to be exciting for those who want to believe that the truth is out there.

The UFO buff spoke to the Sun Online after alien hunters got all worked up about Oumuamua, a cigar-shaped asteroid that some scientists thought could be an alien spaceship.
Because of its unusual shape, researchers even scanned the 400-metre asteroid for alien tech.
And although the scans didn't flag any signs of life, Nick thinks we can't rule out the idea that our planet is being watched by more advanced beings.
He said: "While nothing has been found yet, there's another intriguing possibility: If this ship is an alien probe, it's possible that our scans will awake the intelligence inside."

Some argue that this intelligence could take the form of either biological life or hyper-advanced AI, sent from deep space to keep an eye on our primitive world.
Nick added: "Simply put, any alien ship searching for life may go into a dormant mode until it gets close to an inhabited planet.
"But what's fascinating about this theory is just how many astronomers and other scientists are taking the idea seriously.
"It's a sign of how accepting we are these days about the likelihood of finding alien life"

Nick says the recent news about the Pentagon's UFO search is huge, proving governments are taking the idea of extraterrestrial life more seriously than they often let on.
He said: "It's an extraordinary revelation, not least because it directly contradicts the many specific denials that the US government has issued previously when asked about this subject and their involvement in it."
"The take-home message here is that there's probably something out there, but we don't know what it is."

At the same time, Oumuamua has been causing so much hype among UFO hunters because of its odd shape, which is far smaller than most asteroids.
Nick argues that asteroids such as Oumuamua could serve as alien probes or ships in disguise, taking a very different look to the traditional disc-shaped craft we've seen in sci-fi films such as District 9.
He said: "Because there's no air in space, an alien spaceship wouldn't need to be designed in the same way that our aircraft have to be.
"Rather than building an interstellar spacecraft from scratch, it makes perfect sense to take an asteroid and then build your ship around it, or hollow it out and build inside it, for the protection you'd derive from being surrounded by so much rock."

What could alien tech look like?
Nick Pope argues that alien tech may be so advanced that we mistake it for magic.
He predicts that the possibilities include:
Faster-than-light travel
Ways of controlling the weather
Invisibility
Teleportation
Anti-gravity technology
Medical tech to make them live forever
Artificial intelligence
The ability to download human consciousness into a machine or into the internet
Planet-destroying weapons
This means that probes could be disguised among the comets we regularly see shooting through the solar system, making it possible that our species could have been watched from the very beginning.
And - given the age of the galaxy - earlier alien civilisations could have had a multi-billion-year head start to evolve technology so advanced we'd think it was magic.
Nick said: "This is one reason why humanity probably wouldn't survive an alien invasion.
"Any aliens that find us (as opposed to us finding them) probably have technology way in advance of anything we have."

We've been bringing you all the news about the search for ET.
Recently, we shared the news that the Pentagon had secretly funded a £16 million investigation into the existence of UFOs and aliens.
Dragonfly, which will use a “drone-like rotorcraft” — sort of a space helicopter that parachutes down to the surface — to study the prebiotic chemistry and potential habitability of various locations on Titan, Saturn’s largest moon.
CAESAR, “a mission to return a sample from the nucleus of a comet,” in the words of NASA.
Both will receive $4 million to work on their idea, and in 2019, NASA will choose one to build. The winning project could get up to $1 billion in funding from NASA and will launch sometime in the mid 2020s.

Why the Dragonfly Mission Could Be Big ForAstrobiology
Between the two finalists, the Dragonfly mission could be particularly big for astrobiologists. NASA describes it as “a drone-like rotorcraft that would explore the prebiotic chemistry and habitability of dozens of sites on Saturn’s moon Titan,” which, yes, means it would be looking for signs of life. The lead investigator is Elizabeth Turtle from the Johns Hopkins University Applied PhysicsLaboratory (APL).
The plan is for Dragonfly to “hop” hundreds of kilometers from a particular spot on Titan, once a day every Titan day, which is equivalent to once every 16 Earth days. Hypothetically, Dragonfly would do this for about two years, taking various measurements along the moon’s surface.
“Titan is an ocean world, and the only moon in our Solar System with a dense atmosphere, which supports an Earth-like hydrological cycle of methane clouds, rain, and liquid flowing across the surface to fill lakes and seas,” the Dragonfly researchers write on their site about the mission. “The abundant complex organic material accessible on Titan’s surface makes it an ideal destination to study the conditions necessary for the habitability of an extraterrestrial environment and the kinds of chemical interactions that occurred before life developed on Earth.”
Some Hope For Enceladus
It’s also worth noting that one of the two concepts chosen to “receive technology development funds” is Enceladus Life Signatures and Habitability (ELSAH), which seems to focus on finding biosignatures on Saturn’s strangest moon. According to a press release from NASA, the mission seeks to “develop cost-effective techniques that limit spacecraft contamination and thereby enable life detection measurements on cost-capped missions.” As we know from NASA’s Cassini mission, Enceladus and its subterranean ocean seem to have all the right ingredients to harbor life.
No matter what these projects find, one thing’s for sure: They already have a better shot at finding signs of life than politicians.

Since the Pentagon confirmed the existence of a top-secret UFO-hunting program, internet denizens have been trying to piece together the puzzle of this cheap X-Files reboot, starring Harry Reid and Robert Bigelow, apparently.
In a follow-up to the big story, theNew York Timespublished a first-hand account oftwo Navy airmenwho claim to have seen a rapidly accelerating, flying object they couldn’t explain, one night back in 2004 while flying Navy F/A-18F fighter jets near San Diego.
“It accelerated like nothing I’ve ever seen,” Commander David Fravor told the Times of what he thought was a flying object in the sky. Some of what they saw has been published in a video that the Pentagon’s UFO search division studied for research, or, whatever.
But an astronomer tells Inverse what the airman more likely saw that night:
“Typically, the explanation is that the thing they are looking at is much closer or much farther than they thought, or is a reflection of some kind,” Jonathan McDowell, astronomer at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, tells Inverse.
McDowell makes clear that he hasn’t reviewed the case, though, but says this is what many “UFO sightings” turn out to be. Just a mere reflection.

It’d also help experts understand what happened if the Pentagon declassified more information about the AATIP, or Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program (AATIP). The few details made public obviously don’t reveal any aliens. But what’s arguably more disturbing is they show how former Democratic Senator from Nevada Harry Reid was able to get $22 million in taxpayer money to give to his billionaire friend Robert Bigelow — a true believer in aliens — and his aerospace company. The money was for “research,” which included interviewing people who claimed to have had encounters with extraterrestrial objects.
For context, Bigelow has publicly claimed that aliens have visited us, because, sure.
“Internal reviews of classified data may not have the right mix of people for this,” McDowell explains. “Better to open all the data and let skeptics bash away.”

Researchers at the SETI Institute in California and METI International are both working toward contacting extraterrestrial life in different ways. If the government wants to find aliens so badly, they should just pay astronomers and astrobiologists. The concept isn’t rocket science.

One of my favorite subjects in history are the countless accounts we find of Gods flying around in mighty vehicles.
Accounts of beings, coming down from the heavens in what are described as powerful technological machines, that produce fear-inducing sound, while making the ground shake like a million Earthquake and spitting fire are descriptions that many of us would attribute to rocket or space shuttle launches and/or landings.
To us, this is nothing unusual, as we live in a modern-era where rocketry is a well-known subject.
Every once in a while, we witness a new launch taking place, and we see how mighty spaceships take off from Earth, “spitting fire, producing fear-inducing sounds, making the ground tremble.” We know that these machines are not the vehicle of the Gods, they are just some of the many vehicles created by mankind.
However, if we were to travel back in time 2,000 or 3,000 years and witness the same thing, how would we react?
Imagine yourself seeing a reusable rocket land for the first time ever 3,000 years ago. What would you say? What would you do?

In ancient times, it was universally accepted that human civilization was a gift from the gods.
Whether you look in ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, Israel, Greece, Scandinavia, Great Britain, India, China, Africa, America or elsewhere, most ancient cultures believed that the gods brought them the necessary technology to develop as a civilization. They brought them agriculture, writing, medicine – everything worth having.
When the monotheistic religions became dominant, the gods became one God, but the same social rhythm continued.
The mythology of the Eskimos says that the first tribes were brought north by “gods” who flew them onboard machines with bronze wings.
The oldest sagas of the Native Americans mention a Thunderbird that introduced fire and fruit to them.
What if ancient civilizations misinterpreted alien visitors as ‘Gods’?
The Mayan legend, the Popol Vuh, tells us that the “gods” were able to recognize everything; the universe, the four cardinal points of the compass, and even the round shape of the Earth.
So, does it not make you wonder what were the Eskimos talking about when they were referring to metal birds?

How were the ancestors of the ancient Maya able to deduce that the Earth was round?
When we mention the ancient Vimana, we come across a topic that has been widely spread across the internet.
The word Vimana is Sanskrit and has multiple meanings. Nowadays, the word is usually translated to ancient aircraft. The word “Vimana” originates from the Sanskrit words Vi-Mana, ‘Vi’ meaning ‘Bird’ and ‘Mana’ meaning ‘like’. The interpretation will be ‘like bird’.
The mechanical birds of ancient history
If we look at the Ramayana, a Vedic epic dating back to the 4th / 5th century BC, we will find one passage that describes a Vimana as a “chariot that resembles the sun, and how this aerial chariot had the ability to travel anywhere at will, it resembles a cloud of light in the sky…“

This was the pushpaka, the vimana of Ravana, who is the hero of the great Hindu epic The Ramayana, which describes the pushpaka as follows:
The Pushpaka chariot that resembles the Sun and belongs to my brother was brought by the powerful Ravana; that aerial and excellent chariot going everywhere at will …. that chariot resembling a bright cloud in the sky … and the King [Rama] got in, and the excellent chariot at the command of the Raghira, rose up into the higher atmosphere.
The Vimanas are also described in the Mahabharata, another ancient text. In this case, measurements are given for one of the Vimanas. It is described as having twelve cubits in circumference with four strong wheels that are approximately 20 to 25 feet in circumference; about seven feet in diameter.
According to many ancient texts, these Vimanas were used to transport the gods through the heavens.
These flying machines, according to Erich Von Daniken, sailed at high altitudes with the help of mercury (mercury vortex engine). The Vimanas could cover great distances and could travel forward, up and down.
They were enviable and maneuverable space vehicles.
The predecessors of the flying vimanas of the Sanskrit epics are the flying chariots employed by various gods in the Vedas: The Sun (see Sun chariot) and Indra and several other Vedic deities are transported by flying wheeled chariots pulled by animals, usually horses.
In the Mahabharata, we find: “Gurkha flying in his swift and powerful Vimana hurled against the three cities of the Vrishis and Andhakas a single projectile charged with all the power of the Universe. An incandescent column of smoke and fire, as brilliant as ten thousand suns, rose in all its splendor. It was the unknown weapon, the Iron Thunderbolt, a gigantic messenger of death which reduced to ashes the entire race of the Vrishnis and Andhakas.”
In the Sanskrit Samarangana Sutradhara we find details about Vimana: “Strong and durable must the body of the Vimana be made, like a great flying bird of light material. Inside one must put the mercury engine with its iron heating apparatus underneath. By means of the power latent in the mercury which sets the driving whirlwind in motion, a man sitting inside may travel a great distance in the sky. The movements of the Vimana are such that it can vertically ascend, vertically descend, move slanting forwards and backward. With the help of the machines, human beings can fly in the air and heavenly beings can come down to earth.”

Speaking about the dwarf planet, Lynnae Quick, a planetary geologist at the Smithsonian Institution said: “We believe these bright spots are signs that Ceres once had a global ocean and we are very excited about that.”

“We believe that what happened at Ceres in the past may be similar to what might be happening today, although on a larger scale in some of the active icy moons in the outer solar system,” Quick said, making reference to Jupiter’s moon, Europa, or Saturn’s moon Enceladus, which scientists believe are some of the most promising candidates for extraterrestrial life within our solar system.
Therefore, mission scientists at Dawn have given the spacecraft a new mission: sneak up on the surface of Ceres, just to better observe the alien landscape.
“We’re going to be using an elliptical orbit to dive closer to the surface than we have before, down to 30 kilometers altitude,” said Carol Raymond, one of the NASA scientists and mission members of the Dawn mission.
Despite the fact that this is exciting news, Raymond said that it is difficult to say at this time precisely how long this new mission will last, since the team is not sure how much fuel Dawn has left or how quickly it will run out with the maneuvers that the spacecraft is set to perform, in order to get closer to Ceres.
However, the spacecraft will probably start approaching the dwarf planet this spring and will most likely spend three or four months exploring the alien world.
Even though scientists hope to find traces of alien life on Ceres, if they don’t, the Dawn spacecraft will try and answer some incredibly intriguing questions about the dwarf planet and origins of our solar system.

But as soon as I got behind the darn thing it didn’t look like a balloon anymore. It looked like a saucer, a disk. About the same time, I realized that it was suddenly going away from me — and there I was, running at about 300 miles per hour. I tracked it for a little way, and then all of a sudden, the damn thing just took off. It pulled about a 45-degree climbing turn and accelerated and just flat disappeared.”

“I believe that these extra-terrestrial vehicles and their crews are visiting this planet from other planets… Most astronauts were reluctant to discuss UFOs.”

The latest ‘disclosure’ comes from the man who was in charge of the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program, Luis Elizondo, which investigated reports of clashes with unidentified aircraft.
While working with the AATIP, Elizondo claims that some reports contain details of aircraft that allegedly displayed out of this world capabilities in terms of both speed and maneuvering.
This is why, based on numerous reports he read on encounters with the flying craft, Mr. Elizondo has sad that ‘we may not be alone‘.
In an interview with CNN, Mr. Elizondo joined a long list of people who have come forward speaking about alien life.
“My personal belief is that there is very compelling evidence that we may not be alone. These aircraft – we’ll call them aircraft – are displaying characteristics that are not currently within the US inventory nor in any foreign inventory that we are aware of. Things that don’t have any obvious flight services, any obvious forms of propulsion, and maneuvering in ways that include extreme maneuverability beyond, I would submit, the healthy G-forces of a human or anything biological.”
A former commanding officer of a U.S. Navy squadron claims to have seen a flying object about the size of his F/A-18 fighter plane that resembled a white Tic Tac.
David Fravor said he saw the object after a break in a routine training mission off the California coast on November 14, 2004.
The former officer claimed the unidentified 40-foot-long wingless object moved rapidly, unlike anything he had ever seen in the air, and he has not forgotten it since.
"I can tell you, I think it was not from this world," Fravor said in an interview with ABC News. "I'm not crazy, haven't been drinking. After 18 years of flying, I've seen pretty much about everything that I can see in that realm, and this was nothing close."

The ex-Navy pilot explained that he was on a training flight mission around 13 years ago when the incident occurred.
Controllers on one of the Navy ships on the water below reported objects that were dropping out of the sky from 80,000 feet and going "straight back up," Fravor told ABC. “So we’re thinking, OK, this is going to be interesting.”
An object then appeared on the radar as another aviator spotted the unusual flying object. “I was like, ‘Dude, do you see that?’” Fravor recalled.
“We look down, we see a white disturbance in the water, like something's under the surface, and the waves are breaking over, but we see next to it, and it's flying around, and it's this little white Tic Tac, and it's moving around—left, right, forward, back. The radar immediately starts getting jammed, and all of a sudden it takes off," he continued.
Fravor also said the planes flew lower to investigate the object. That was when the object started to mirror their movements before quickly disappearing, he added.
"As we start to cut across, it rapidly accelerates, climbs past our altitude and disappears," Fravor said. "When it started to near us, as we started to descend towards it coming up, it was flying in the elongated way, so it's a Tic Tac, with the roundish end going in the forward direction. I don't know what it is. I don't know what I saw. I just know it was really impressive, really fast, and I would like to fly it."
Adding to the bizarre experience, Fravor claimed the disturbance in the water also vanished with the object.
"I have never seen anything in my life, in my history of flying, that has the performance, the acceleration,” Fravor said. “Keep in mind, this thing had no wings.”
Fravor’s story emerged just days after The New York Times reported the existence of a program by the Defense Department dedicated to studying unidentified flying objects. Funding for the Advanced Aviation Threat Identification Program began in 2007, and the Pentagon said it closed it in 2012, acknowledging the program for the first time publicly.
Fravor told ABC that there was no logical rationale for what he experienced that day. “I don’t know if it was alien life, but I will say that in an infinite universe with multiple galaxies that we know of, if we’re the only planet with life, then it’s a pretty lonely universe.”
He added, "You know, you see a lot of interesting things. But to show up on something that's a 40-foot-long white Tic Tac with no wings that can move, really, in any random direction that it wants and go from hovering over the ocean to mirroring us to accelerating to the point where it just disappears—like, poof, then it was gone.
In an interview with The Washington Post, Fravor said he is certain about one thing: "It was a real object, it exists, and I saw it." Asked what he believes it was, he responded that it was "something not from the Earth."

Yale astronomers said on December 18, 2017 that they have taken a fresh look at the nearby Alpha Centauri star systemand found new ways to narrow the search for habitable planets there. The study was led by astronomer Debra Fischerand graduate student Lily Zhao, who believe there may be small, Earth-like planets in Alpha Centauri that’ve been overlooked so far. At the same time, their study ruled out the existence of a number of larger planets in the system that had popped up in previous models. The new study is published in the peer-reviewed Astronomical Journal.
Fischer, who has been involved in the search for exoplanets for decades, since long before the
first ones were discovered in the 1990s, pointed out that the the most common types of planets appear to be small planets:
Because Alpha Centauri is so close, it is our first stop outside our solar system. There are almost certain to be small, rocky planets around Alpha Centauri A and B.
Alpha Centauri system is the star system nearest to our sun. It’s located about 4.2 light-years (24.9 trillion miles) away. It has three stars: Centauri A, Centauri B, and Proxima Centauri. Last year, astronomers found an Earth-like planet orbiting Proxima Centauri. This planet is the closest possible abode for an extraterrestrial civilization.
The new findings are based on data coming in from a new wave of more advanced spectrographic instruments at observatories located in Chile: CHIRON, a spectrograph built by Fischer’s team; HARPS, built by a team from Geneva; and UVES, part of the Very Large Telescope Array. Fischer said:
The precision of our instruments hasn’t been good enough, until now.
These astronomers statement explained:
The researchers set up a grid system for the Alpha Centauri system and asked, based on the spectrographic analysis, ‘If there was a small, rocky planet in the habitable zone, would we have been able to detect it?’ Often, the answer came back: ‘No.’
Zhao, the study’s first author, determined that for Alpha Centauri A, there might still be orbiting planets that are smaller than 50 Earth masses. For Alpha Centauri B there might be orbiting planets than are smaller than 8 Earth masses; for Proxima Centauri, there might be orbiting planets that are less than one-half of Earth’s mass.
In addition, the study eliminated the possibility of a number of larger planets. Zhao said this takes away the possibility of Jupiter-sized planets causing asteroids that might hit or change the orbits of smaller, Earth-like planets.
The astronomers hope the new information provided by their study will help other astronomers prioritize their efforts to detect additional planets in the Alpha Centauri system.

According to the digital version of the Daily News, Bushman describes the aliens as between 1.20 and 1.50 meters tall and with elongated fingers , webbed feet and come from a planet known as “Quintumnia” , from which only take about 45 years in traveling to Earth. An itinerant interstellar asteroid may actually be a comet in disguise.
In general, comets are icy and asteroids are rocky. Ice gives comets their characteristic tails: As a comet passes near the sun, the heat warms the ice, causing it to sublimate, releasing gas and dust. Because no tail appeared despite ‘Oumuamua’s passage by the sun, the mysterious visitor was dubbed an asteroid — a surprising conclusion since the vast majority of objects ejected from star systems are expected to be icy.
“Everybody's been assuming that this is just a lump of rock,” says astronomer Alan Fitzsimmons of Queen’s University Belfast in Northern Ireland. “This may not be the case.” So ‘Oumuamua might not be as odd as originally thought.
Fitzsimmons and colleagues used the Very Large Telescope in Chile and the William Herschel Telescope in La Palma, Spain to capture the object’s spectrum — its light sliced up according to wavelength. “It’s an impressive piece of work,” says astronomer Olivier Hainaut of the European Southern Observatory in Garching, Germany, who was not involved with the research. “It was a very faint object and to observe such a faint moving target is horribly difficult.”
The object’s spectrum revealed a reddish hue with no signs of ice. But ‘Oumuamua could have an exterior crust — about half a meter thick or thicker — which hid the ice and insulated it from the sun’s heat, the researchers calculated. “You could have a lot of ice in this thing and really not know it,” says astronomer Jessica Sunshine of the University of Maryland in College Park, who was not involved with the research. Such a crust could have formed as energetic particles known as cosmic rays bombarded the object over its lifetime, creating an ice-free surface rich in organic compounds. ‘Oumuamua’s spectrum is similar to those of other objects in the solar system suspected of concealing such icy interiors.
Studies of ‘Oumuamua continue — with some researchers looking for evidence of even more surprising hypotheses. Using the Green Bank Telescope in West Virginia, scientists with the Breakthrough Listen project are searching for signatures of artificial origin — that is, aliens — on the off chance that the object might be an interstellar spacecraft. NEW ORLEANS — Saturn’s iconic rings are a recent addition. Final data from the Cassini spacecraft, which flew between the planet and the rings this year before plunging into the gas giant’s atmosphere, show the rings are around a few hundred million years old and less massive than previously thought.
Those findings suggest the rings are probably the remnants of at least one moon, rather than ancient remains of the stuff that formed the planet. The results were presented at the fall meeting of the American Geophysical Union on December 12 and 13.
For decades, scientists puzzled over the age and origins of Saturn’s rings (SN: 11/12/16, p. 10). If the rings had formed with Saturn some 4 billion years ago, a constant bombardment of debris from the more distant solar system should make the icy bands appear darker than they do. But scientists thought the rings were too heavy to have formed relatively recently, when there was less material available than in the solar system’s youth for Saturn to pull into the rings.

An Irish astronomer believes efforts to make contact with aliens will prove successful within five years – and his team of scientists could make the breakthrough.
Eamonn Ansbro has been looking to communicate with extraterrestrial life from his research grade four telescope observatory for 17 years.
The married man works with five other full-time and part-time scientists attempting to solve the mysteries of the Universe.
His modern observatory, based in a traditional country cottage near Boyle, Co Roscommon, boasts the largest telescope in Ireland.
He said: “I’m convinced there’ll be communication [with another civilization] within our lifetime. I’d say within five years.
“We worked out the statistics on this based on the research we’ve been doing and based on many factors and we reckon we can do it within five years. We have all the gear, we have the right people and we’re operating 24/7.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if we get the first signal, we are optimistic.
“We wouldn’t have spent 12 years in developing all of this [otherwise]. It’s not a casual situation.
“I’ve spent 27 years at this, so I do know a little bit about it.”

Asked about why he is confident a breakthrough is close, Eamonn replied: “First of all, the number of planets that have been discovered now and that’s been scaled up within the whole galaxy.
“Number two, we use technology with different radiation which takes in the whole galaxy, where with radio it doesn’t. Radio actually diminishes over distance.
“In our case it doesn’t diminish at all with longitudinal waves [faster than light communications]. So we can actually take in the whole galaxy.
“We’re confident there are civilizations out there that will pick up on even our signal. And that would be instantaneous.
“Now we obviously have to tune into the specific frequencies.”

Eamonn is by no means alone in searching for alien life and said his project has much in common with the Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence Institute’s €85million project Breakthrough Listen.
It is looking at the million closest stars to Earth.
Eamonn said: “They are optimistic they’ll get a signal, but their’s would be in the radio area where ours would be in the longitudinal waves.
“I mean when you take it that out of the 520 billion planets in our own galaxy, nevermind the millions and millions of other galaxies and we’re the only ones?
“We’re way out on the edge of the galaxy and look how arrogant we are.
“There needs to be a big wake-up call. And I think the wake-up call will happen when the first signal comes through.”
And Eamonn dismissed fears an alien might not come in peace.
He added: “When you have Hollywood kicking in with spaceship stuff and Independence Day this is what you expect?
“I think if you look at a film like Arrival, which came out last year, that gives you a good example of what to expect.
“I’d expect a very passive type of civilization that has a completely different language to what we were expecting.”

The U.S. government has been secretly investigating unidentified flying objects — UFOs — since 2007. And despite officials' claims that the classified UFO-hunting effort shuttered in 2012 after funding evaporated, the group is still active, The New York Times reported Saturday (Dec. 16).
Known as the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program (AATIP), the initiative was launched by the U.S. Department of Defense in 2007 and operated with an annual budget of $22 million from 2008 to 2011, the Times discovered during a recent investigation.
Pentagon officials revealed that the program existed, but added that it ceased to operate in 2012, the Times reported. However, the former leader of the program said that AATIP remained active in the years since; he continued to oversee the effort until he resigned in October — citing the department's "excessive secrecy and internal opposition" as the cause — and he was succeeded after his departure, according to the Times. Under the program, aerospace experts investigated and described sightings and video recordings of mysterious objects that defied easy explanation; they also conducted tests on people who reported glimpsing UFOs, to see how they might have been affected by the experience, according to the Times.
One video example — the time and date of which was withheld by government officials — showed a fast-moving, spinning and glowing aircraft, recorded midair by Navy pilots in an F/A-18 Super Hornet, the Times reported.
The nascent program was ushered into existence by Nevada Democratic Sen. Harry Reid, then the Senate majority leader. His interest in UFOs was piqued by conversations with billionaire entrepreneur Robert Bigelow, whose aerospace company was tapped to conduct much of the research for AATIP's UFO sightings, Reid told the Times.
Reid further explained that he had also spoken about UFOs years earlier with astronaut John Glenn, the Times reported. Glenn suggested to Reid that the government should take a closer look at reports of UFO sightings by members of the military service; these reports were often not widely shared, because people who saw UFOs thought that no one would believe them.

Reid referred to the proposed budget for AATIP as "black money," a special type of budget maintained by the Pentagon for classified programs, and one that was not debated publicly by Senate members, according to the Times.
UFO sightings have been investigated by government agencies since the 1940s, and in January 2016, the CIA released a number of previously classified documents describing some of the most unusual UFO encounters on record, most of which took place in the 1950s.
But belief in UFOs is still widespread; according to a survey conducted in 2012, an estimated 80 million people in the U.S. think that UFOs are real, and 1 in 10 responders claimed to have personally witnessed what they describe as an extraterrestrial spacecraft.
In an interview, the now-retired Reid said that he was "not embarrassed or ashamed or sorry" to have pushed for the investigation of potential threats posed by UFOs, according to the Times.
"I think it's one of the good things I did in my congressional service. I've done something that no one has done before," Reid said.

The shadowy program began in 2007 and was largely funded at the request of Harry Reid, the former Senate majority leader, who has had a longtime interest in space phenomena.
The U.S. Department of Defense had a secret program to investigate reports of unidentified flying objects, and former Navy pilots in the program say they had a stunning encounter with a UFO in 2004.

Fraser descended, the object ascended to meet him and then it veered suddenly. "It accelerated like nothing I've ever seen, he said an interview with the Times, adding that he was "pretty weirded out." A few minutes later, the object disappeared, he said.
Fravor returned to his carrier ship, where people mocked him for what he saw, he told the Times. His superiors didn't look into the matter, and Fravor moved on to other things in his career, such as serving in the Persian Gulf as air support during the Iraq war.
Fravor's account includes a video — one of several recorded as a part of the program. The video shows a small object skirting from side to side and circling in view of the camera. The Times added that observers also underwent tests after their "encounters," to see how the experience had affected them.
"I can tell you, I think it was not from this world," Fravor added in a separate interview with ABC News. "I'm not crazy, haven't been drinking. It was — after 18 years of flying, I've seen pretty much about everything that I can see in that realm, and this was nothing close."
The program was called the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program and had an annual budget of $22 million between 2008 and 2011. (By contrast, the budget of NASA as a whole was roughly $18.4 billion in fiscal year 2011.)
This isn't the first time that the government has looked into accounts of mysterious objects. In 2016, the Central Intelligence Agency released many previously classified documents that talked about unusual incidents, most of which occurred in the 1950s.
While the scientific evidence for UFOs is inconclusive, many people still want to believe. A 2012 survey said an estimated 80 million people in the U.S. believe in UFOs. Further, 1 in 10 respondents said they had seen UFOs for themselves.
In the Times interview, Fravor added that shortly after his encounter, he spoke with another pilot about what he saw. He told the pilot he had no idea what it was. "It had no plumes, wings or rotors and outran our F-18s," he told the Times, adding, "I want to fly one."
