WIE MAAKT DIE RECHTHOEKIGE WOLKEN ?

We krijgen er steeds meer vreemde wolken bij en één van de meest vreemde is wel een wolk die eruit ziet als een soort vliegend matras. 

Maar, geen nood, de mainstream wetenschap heeft overal een antwoord op en een verklaring uit die hoek is dan ook een uitgewaaierde chemtrail...... pardon contrail.

Je gelooft eigenlijk je ogen niet als je naar de lucht kijkt en je ziet de volgende wolk langs drijven.

En toch is dat precies wat te zien was in de Engelse stad Exeter enkele jaren geleden.

De Engelse Met Office (hun KNMI) kwam al heel snel met een verklaring: Het zou niets meer zijn dan een condensatiespoor/contrail veroorzaakt door een vliegtuig. En omdat de wind toevallig die dag vanuit een aantal rechte hoeken richting chemtrail waaide, kreeg je deze bijzondere vorm. Alhoewel ze moesten toegeven dat het toch wel heel bijzonder was dat er zulke perfecte rechte hoeken werden gevormd.

Bovenstaande waarneming gebeurde in 2014 en toen kwamen ze misschien nog weg met een dergelijke verklaring, maar die vlieger zou nu niet meer opgaan, want de afgelopen jaren zijn er steeds meer van die vreemdsoortige, rechthoekige wolken verschenen. Zoals de volgende in Tucson in de Amerikaanse staat Arizona. Zelfs als je beschikt over heel veel fantasie, dan nog is dit dit niet verklaren als een uitgewaaierde chemtrail.

Of de volgende, gemaakt ergens in Amerika.

En nu is er weer een vreemde rechthoekige wolk en wéér in Engeland.

De volgende opname werd op 24 november gemaakt in de buurt van Cleethorpes aan de Engelse oostkust. Misschien zal de Met Office dit keer proberen het te verklaren als een uitgewaaierde chemtrail van een heel groot vliegtuig, wie weet.

 

De grote vraag is natuurlijk hoe deze rechthoekige wolken worden gevormd, of misschien beter gezegd door wie/wat?

Het lijkt onwaarschijnlijk dat de natuur zelf wolken zal vormen met perfecte rechte hoeken en als dat zo is, dan denken we al snel aan menselijke interventie zoals met HAARP, waarover wij vijf jaar geleden het volgende schreven.

De ontwikkeling van de zogenaamde “weerwapens” zoals HAARP, wordt door de meeste mensen aan de kant geschoven als een paranoïde verhaal, het werk van een scriptschrijver voor een sciencefiction film en aanhangers van samenzweringstheorieën, maar het is een feit dat ze al tientallen jaren bestaan. Niemand minder dan de vroeger Amerikaanse Minister van Defensie, William Cohen, heeft diverse keren gesproken over de ontwikkeling van aan weer gerelateerde wapens, of om meer specifiek te zijn, de technieken om weersituaties te creëren die offensieve militaire operaties kunnen ondersteunen.

Is het HAARP of andere vergelijkbare systemen, of is er een andere. Ideeën zijn welkom bij redactie (apenstaart) niburu.co

Could an American politician get elected after making a statement like that one? How about this one?

“I am definitely not the only one who had seen such things zipping through our sky on Earth. It shows how myopic and ignorant people could be.”

Goh Meng Seng

US office seekers who have seen UFOs or believe in extraterrestrials may want to keep an eye on Singapore where Goh Meng Seng, the Secretary-General of the People’s Power Party (PPP) has been making these and similar statements on Facebook about his experiences and beliefs that are contrary to what we normally hear from political leaders.  The Independent reports that Goh has been making these statements and more after the appointment of Finance Minister Heng Swee Keat as the first assistant secretary-general of ruling People’s Action Party (PAP). PPP is a minority opposition party, so it’s no surprise he’s opposed to the appointment, especially since Heng has had health issues, including a recent stroke.

“Back in 2000, I have seen an object masquerading as a cloud which was glowing and floating at a very slow speed. Before I could take out my camera to take a picture of it, it just zoomed away in extreme speed…astronomical speed, zipping through the evening sky. Such technology of speed is unknown to human civilization and that is why I believe there exists a more advanced civilization somewhere which is alien to Earth.”

Hey, at least he’s being honest and sticking to his UFO story, not like some US politicians who deny past UFO encounters or writing Bigfoot porn (OK, that guy still got elected). However, Goh has some other problems that have kept him from winning elections in previous parties he’s been in before founding PPP. In 2006, he was accused of posting on an online sex forum (damn Internet!). He’s also made some controversial comments about religion:

“Well as far as I am concern, seeing is believing and my belief in the existence of alien UFO is much more credible than any religion which was believed by others who didn’t even see their God, Goddess, Buddha, Angels etc before!”

Is Goh channeling John Lennon? Does he believe UFOs are more popular than Jesus or Buddha?

To cover all of the bases (and constituencies), Goh is also willing to accept other explanations:

“In my opinion, there are two types of UFOs on Earth. Some are human made, by some countries like America or Russia. But these are the ones which could just fly at “normal” speed due to technological limitations. They may be in saucer shape, have the ability to hover around etc but do not have the technology of traveling at the speed of light. Those which could do that, most probably are alien types.”

Needless to say, Goh is getting some pretty derogatory comments on his Facebook posts. Should he? Is this any different than other controversial statements made by other politicians around the world? Is he still being punished for his transgressions in 2006? Were they worse than Bigfoot porn?

One of the greatest questions of our time is “Are we alone?” Are there other lifeforms out there, and if so, will we ever meet them? Or are we truly alone, hurtling through space on this rock that holds the only life in the universe? Considering the incomprehensible vastness of space, and the fact that recent NASA estimates are that there could be as many as 40 billion habitable worlds in our galaxy alone, it seems almost certain that there must be some form of life out there besides ourselves, and some of them might even have the ability to reach out across the stars. Indeed, some estimates have suggested that there could be thousands of space going civilizations. I have already written here before about why we may not have heard from them yet, as well as how we might communicate with them, so I won’t delve into that here, but a perhaps even more important question that I want to ask here is “If they are out there do we really want to meet them?” What would happen if we were to meet aliens? Would they be friendly, indifferent, or malevolent? We of course don’t know, but there are ideas.

Assuming that there actually is intelligent life out there, and assuming that they have mastered interplanetary travel, there are several ways that contact could go, which could largely depend on what brought them here and what their goals are, with varying possible scenarios. Let’s imagine for a moment that they intentionally came here, making a trip across the vast, yawning chasm of stars to come to this new land. If this were the case they would obviously have some vested interest in our planet, some reason to come all of that way, so would this be benevolent or malicious? Would they come here in peace, or bring down destruction? Speculation has long run rampant on these questions, and although we don’t really know the answer or how an alien intelligence would think or what their values would be, and it is impossible to know such things, we can still make guesses.

One of the main ideas in this particular scenario is that in the case of an expedition to our world, so to speak, they would likely be specifically interested in us and the life of our world for some reason. After all, it might hurt the ego to know this but in the grand scheme of things other than having life Earth is not really all that special. If aliens wanted natural resources they can find far more of those locked up in asteroids, comets, and moons than on our planet, to the point that these resources are believed to be so plentiful at such places that space mining is already being pursued by us, so why would anyone come light years to come all the way here for the very resources we are looking to mine from off-planet? It doesn’t make sense. The same goes with water, which can be found in abundance in ice on comets, moons, and planetary poles. What we do have is life, so there seems to really be no reason why they would want to come here and traverse that sea of stars unless it was for the expressed purpose of studying us or contacting us, perhaps out of curiosity after picking up the copious radio messages we relentlessly send out to anyone who will listen, and this could go a few different ways.

If they wanted to study us it would be somewhat akin to scientists finding a new continent, some lost world with myriad new species to study, although whether this would translate to benevolence from our point of view is uncertain, just ask all of the animals in jars of formaldehyde or the specimens sent off to be dissected. They could want to preserve us, but what this would involve and whether they would really treat us well is open to debate. There are those who believe that they might be more like peaceful missionaries contacting some new faraway tribe, trying to teach us and learn our ways, or to even welcome us into some intergalactic society, and this is a nice thought. Imagine how much we could learn from them and what an era of peace and prosperity this would bring.

There have been a lot of scientists that support this idea of a benign presence coming to us, arguing that any spacefaring civilization would be hundreds or thousands of years more advanced than us, and so would have by necessity learned to overcome such self-destructive behaviors such as war and murder and to have mastered empathy. One scientist who believes this is Seti’s former director, Jill Tarter, who thinks that such a civilization would have risen above such things and that the very fact that they are advanced enough to come to us means that they would be sophisticated, peaceful, and benevolent. Tarter said of this to Business Insider:

The idea of a civilization which has managed to survive far longer than we have…and the fact that that technology remains an aggressive one, to me, doesn’t make sense. The pressure of long-term survival — of limiting population…I think requires that the evolutionary trends that ratcheted up our intelligence…continues to evolve into something that’s cooperative and take on global scale problems.

In this line of reasoning, aggressiveness and evil are two traits that are not conducive to a species lasting very long, and that they by definition should have overcome them to have reached the stage where they can come here to begin with. Another SETI scientist who shares this sentiment is Dr. Doug Vakoch, who thinks that aliens might have evolved to a certain higher state of enlightenment, and would approach us to give us advice to save ourselves, saying, “We are in very precarious time in our development as a civilization. Our technologies are greater than our social stability. So if we make contact with another civilization that may be more advanced they may have got through the tech bottleneck and may have some advice.”

According to Vakoch it would be a huge mistake not to take the chance to reach out to aliens and bring them here, as the potential benefits for mankind would be enormous. Of course, there is the question of why in the world should they want to help us or teach us? What would they possibly have to gain from this? This is where opinions get decidedly more negative, and not everyone thinks technological progress equals a benign nature, as science fiction writer and marine biologist Peter Watts demonstrated when he pointed out:

If the best toys do end up in the hands of those who’ve never forgotten that life itself is an act of war against intelligent opponents, what does that say about a race whose machines travel between the stars?

Of course, not everyone has a rosy view of alien contact, and there are just as many people, if not more, who firmly believe that extraterrestrial intelligences would almost certainly be malevolent towards us, and could even spell the end of life as we know it. The sinister rationale here is that one need only look at how we humans on earth have exploited resources and other peoples and wiped each other out. In this scenario, aliens would be nefarious, resource hungry, aggressive beings, and here to either enslave us or exterminate us for whatever reasons. If they are anything like us, then the idea is that we should be very worried about meeting them. One of the most well-known proponents of the idea that aliens will be hostile was legendary physicist Stephen Hawking, who famously once said:

If aliens visit us, the outcome would be much as when Columbus landed in America, which didn’t turn out well for the Native Americans. We only have to look at ourselves to see how intelligent life might develop into something we wouldn’t want to meet.

In this opinion, we are making a serious mistake by loudly advertising our presence to other civilizations with our radio messages, and that we should stop doing so immediately. As author and astrobiologist David Grinspoon has said, “If you live in a jungle that might be full of hungry lions, do you jump down from your tree and go, ‘Yoo-hoo?’” According to these often very vocal opponents of programs sending messages to the stars, we have to at the very least come together and actively discuss and debate the issue in order to come to a consensus and understanding of both the benefits and risks. There is no real official governing organization for deciding how to go about giving these messages and what is OK to send, and we are just sort of blindly calling out into space, uncertain of who will pick up on the other end and whether we really want them to. Lucianne Walkowicz, an astrophysicist at the Adler Planetarium in Chicago, has said of our attempts to contact aliens:

There’s a possibility that if we actively message, with the intention of getting the attention of an intelligent civilization, that the civilization we contact would not necessarily have our best interests in mind. On the other hand, there might be great benefits. It could be something that ends life on Earth, and it might be something that accelerates the ability to live quality lives on Earth. We have no way of knowing.

It is all likely too late to do anything about it anyway, as our messages are out there, with no way to pull them back, so we’ll just have to wait and see. This all very interesting, and both sides of the debate have valid points, but all of this is assuming that aliens willingly come here for a specific reason. One aspect that I see discussed far less often is what if they sort of just stumble across us on some other business? What if they are either not tuned into our radio signals or aren’t listening, and then sort of find us by accident? What then? Again, there are several ways this could go, with varying levels of good or bad news for us. What would they do? Would they ignore us and fly right on by? Would they want to study us? Or would they just say, “hey check that out, that’s interesting,” and then squash us like a curious child squashing a weird bug that briefly catches their twisted curiosity?

If aliens should sort of just find us while passing through on some inscrutable errand, it has been argued that the very presence of life here would be enough to catch their attention, but how they would react would differ on why they are passing through and who they were. If they were scientists they might want to study us, but as pointed out before this does not necessarily equate to good news for us. There is also the fact that it is in no way certain that the ones who came across us would be scientists or even all that thrilled to find other lifeforms. They could be miners looking for planets, asteroids, and moons to mine, or something else, and all bets would be off. After all, how many archeological sites have been ruined because loggers found them instead of archeologists? How many species have been wiped out before they were even seen by scientists? If these were “interplanetary loggers” so to speak, then there is a very good chance they might be curious, but would almost certainly not have our best interests in mind, cruelly indifferent at best and destructive at worst. If they passed and actually decided to investigate rather than just ignore us we could be in a lot of trouble.

In the end, we just don’t know how alien contact would go down, and no idea of what the nature or intents of these unearthly visitors might be. We can only speculate and debate it, but we won’t really know until the day comes when they actually descend from the skies to bring either enlightenment or doom. In the meantime, we keep looking and keep blasting our calling card into space, wondering if we are alone or not, and ultimately time will tell whether this was a good idea or not.

Antarctica might as well be another planet. There is still much left to explore on the frozen continent on the bottom of the Earth, and it seems like each week there’s a new discovery which adds to the growing mystery of what might lie beneath the Antarctic ice sheet. Strange lost continents? Unknown, bizarre organisms? Secret Nazi bases? How about all of the above, that do anything for ya?

This week, the latest bizarre Antarctica news concerns a mysterious, radioactive heat source melting the Antarctic ice sheet from below. Is this one of those crashed alien spacecraft the Google Earth people keep warning us about, or just some unknown geothermal process?

Of course it’s gonna be some boring rock phenomenon. It’s never aliens. Until it is. Scientists with the the British Antarctic Survey (BAS) found areas of the Antarctic Ice Sheet were melting unexpectedly quickly and used radar to peer through three kilometers of ice to determine what might be causing the melting. What the researchers discovered is an area twice the size of London which appears to be melting from the bottom up.

The researchers found that unusually radioactive rocks and hot water bubbling up from deep within the Earth were causing the melt, and the source of the radioactivity remains unknown. Thus, while the usual boogeyman of climate change can’t be cited as the cause, Dr. Tom Jordan from British Antarctic Survey (BAS) says this new phenomenon could speed up the melting caused by global warming:

The process of melting we observe has probably been going on for thousands or maybe even millions of years and isn’t directly contributing to ice sheet change. However, in the future the extra water at the ice sheet bed may make this region more sensitive to external factors such as climate change.

The discovery of this phenomenon was completely unexpected and shows how much more we have to learn about Antarctica. In many ways, the icy continent is one of the last great frontiers here on Earth – at least above the ocean. What secrets will it reveal in the future?

Giant Alien Figure Found Hidden In NASA Photo Of Eagle Nebula, Nov 2018, UFO Sighting News.

At the NASA site, they have a close up photo of part of the Eagle Nebula. Its an area that they thought looked like a fairy, so they named it The Fairy of Eagle Nebula. Yeah, you heard me right, NASA is seeing things in the nebulas...and no one laughs at them...yet, because I don't work for the US gov, many ridicule me. Who's laughing now?

 

I found that this part of the nebula is a figure, however its been viewed wrong. The photo has to be cut in half from top to bottom then flipped and added to itself...making one whole figure. This gives us the full figure of the alien it was made after. Remember its alien art, its meant to be viewed using a higher IQ than humans are suppose to have...humanity is not suppose to be able to see these or understand them. Its wearing a samurai type of armor. Humans made Mount Rushmore made from a entire mountain of stone...so you see, everyone likes to leave their mark for future generations, its just these aliens did it on a whole new level. 

 

In the close up below, you see there are actually three heads, two of which are separate and looking down on the middle figure as if watching over him. Probably a spiritual reference to his ancestors of the the past insuring his safety for the future. 

 

Do you remember I was talking about different civilization levels last week? Humanity still has not reached a type 1 civilization level yet, but what we are looking at is an alien figure in a nebula made by a type 5 civilization...which can manipulate space and time, basically, godly in every way.

Person in airplane filmed amazing footage of UFO in the sky of New York, Nov 23, 2018, Video, UFO Sighting News.

This UFO was filmed flying along side a passenger jet over New York this week. The glowing orb is similar to the old WWII UFOs called foo fighters that use to follow fighter planes over the ocean. 

 

However we do have to be careful that the reading lamps on the airplane are not reflecting in the window of the jet...which happens a lot. Unless a second video of this UFO comes in...it remains unknown.

Arizona Light

 Glendale —  Standing outside looking to the east I noticed lights changing colors but not moving on November 21, 2018

I ruled out aircraft in the sky to the east. with lights changing very fast. just to be sure my eyes weren’t playing tricks on me. I recorded video for 56 seconds and could see the lights on my phone screen. where in fact these lights were changing and that this was something I have never seen. Thanks to MUFON CMS

 A few friends of mine and I were sitting on my porch smoking cigarettes when we noticed something falling from the sky, at first it appeared to be a meteor but then we noticed it stopped and started going to the side after hovering for a while. Colorado Light

 Canon – Just north of Royal Gorge Bridge and Park Road 3A. at 8:45 PM on September 10^th, 2008 I witnessed a super bright light penetrating thru a heavy cloud around a craft. I saw about 5 men in dark jumpsuits loading things up into a rectangular structure. It was exposed just under the mist hovering above ground. I was driving west and turned off my car lights when I first saw a bright light filtering thru the trees 75 yards away. I had  a clear view at this activity for three minutes and my wife witnessed this as well.
Five men in jump-suits were silhouetted lifting up black boxes maybe 3 feet square by 4 feet long and one box the same size as a coffin. Thanks to MUFON CMS

Margate — There’s a light beam that cuts through the daylight sky on November 11, 2018. . It’s only on mornings with clear visibility. I’m raised in South Florida and these weren’t always here. Over the past 7-8 years I’ve been trying to figure it out. What can harness enough light to reflect it back out into space visibly in a daylight sky? I’ve got plenty of pictures and news reporters pass it off as a reflection from a water tower. There aren’t any water towers visible as far as eyes can see. Thanks to MUFON CMS

 Atlantic City– My nephew was looking out window from passenger side backside on November 15, 2018, he asked me, “What the object was on my side, right side’. First I did a whole checklist in my head and when I couldn’t explain it . Columbus — Arrived at work and upon exiting my vehicle noticed the lightning in the clouds. There was no sound associated with it and I felt odd on May 22, 2005. As I recorded the event a streak of green light shot across the sky and couldn’t make sense of what I had recorded. Texas Objects

 Lipan — We’ve had multiple sightings from Utah to Texas the last 3 months. But it’s getting more and more like an everyday occurrence now. I have multiple pix and videos ranging from lights in the sky at night, to shots of beams coming out of the moon at night. The sun that is not the sun, like a human flying 2-3000 yards up in the air moving at a high rate of speed. Virginia Lights

Lamsburg  Parkway — I was taking some night shots with my new camera on the Blue Ridge Parkway on November 22, 2018. I realized there were strange lights in the sky. In two pictures, taken roughly a minute apart from each other, 6 lights appear to be hovering in the left side of the shot. In the second picture, they seem to be leaving, with only 3 lights visible, leading me to believe I captured UFOs in the distance. Thanks to MUFON CMS

This was a deep sky object which I only had one chance to take one pic with my telescope on the Sunshine Coast Queensland , this thing was huge but did not last long. Canada Disc

Chénéville — I played chess with a friend in my house. It was around 9 pm when I heard a buzz on the outside that caught my attention on October 15, 2005. We went outside on the balcony and noticed a big red diamond above the house. Then I noticed 4 yellow lights at the ends of the diamond and realized that it was a flying object. It was something I had never seen before. The object seemed to be moving very slowly just above the treetops. The object followed a northwest course, above us as the buzz stopped. We tried to track the object in our vehicle for about 15 kilometers before losing sight of it. Thanks to MUFON CMS

 Ballivor, Co. Meath — My daughter saw a bell shaped UFO at 4.55 GMT on November 23, 2018,  The object was hovering due south. There was a sound which she described as a cross between a jet and a helicopter. It had two red lights which flashed on and off alternatively about every second. The dome glowed very bright yellow. It rose slowly at a slight diagonal and then blinked out of existence. Five seconds later she saw a shooting star tracing South East. She was in bed at the time and the light drew her attention to the object. She put on her glasses and saw the object clearly and immediately thought it was a UFO. She was frightened and sent me a text. She did not lose sight of the object, it just blinked out of existence. The attached sketches are of the object. Thanks to MUFON CMS

France Possible Airliner

Paris — Have you ever seen an airliner moving backward?
My video I took back in August 2017, shows a fake plane” hovering on Ivry-Sur-Seine, just beyond the south-eastern side of Paris Ring Road.
Airliners descend and approach their final destination at Paris airport following exactly the same path every single night, this one was showing the same intense front light of a descending plane but was not proceeding toward the airport as usual.  It was standing still hovering. that’s what caught my attention and made me decide to take a video with my camera (Canon Powers hot sx20 is, optical zoom 20x). Frames (#0173 and #1564) show how the plane moved from right to left in less than 40 seconds. The object changed from orange to green with a strange kind of elongated “rod.”  Thanks to MUFON CMS

Ahmedabad — I was sitting on the sofa with my laptop on November 21, 2018  near the window. While smoking I noticed a triangular light above a building.
When I looked out again I realized that it was higher than before and so I took my phone to take a video. I noticed it was gradually rising and disappeared completely.

Discovery In China contradicts current archaeological beliefs

Scientists in China discovered a treasure: Stone cuttings, sophisticated tools made by Stone Age men. The problem is that the tools are far too old to be made by Homo sapiens.

Researchers report in the scientific journal "Nature" about newly found Levallois tools, which do not fit into the picture of known human history at all. In southeastern China, in the Guanyindong Cave, the researchers discovered 45 stone fragments that were clearly crafted using the Levallois technique - but which are actually far too old for this region. Until now, it was assumed that humans reached southeast China only 40,000 years ago.

A completely different kind of human species?

In contrast, the new found tools are 170,000 to 80,000 years old. Archaeologists are now faced with a mystery: Who made these tools?

The discoverers of the Chinese findings around Bo Li from the Australian University Wollongong consider two plausible possibilities. Either Homo sapiens actually arrived in China earlier than previously thought. Or else, a completely different kind of human species manufactured the tools.

Denisova humans could have made the tools. So far, we can only speculate about their way of life - their fossils were found in a cave in the Siberian Altai Mountains. It is possible that their wanderings also brought them to southeastern China. That's not exactly close either. But still closer than Africa.

Marslander InSight succesvol geland op rode planeet na spannende reis

De InSight landde gisteravond om 20.54 uur Belgische tijd met succes op Mars, na een ruimtereis van 482 miljoen kilometer die ongeveer zeven maanden duurde. De Marsverkenner zal de komende twee jaar in de bodem van Mars boren om de binnenkant van de planeet te onderzoeken.

De landing zelf was een heuse thriller. Ongeveer een uur ervoor stuurde het controlecentrum op aarde de laatste aanwijzingen door naar het toestel en daarna was het in spanning afwachten en hopen dat alles goed ging. “Het duurt acht minuten voor een radiosignaal van ons Mars bereikt”, aldus Rob Grover, die de leiding had over de landing. “We konden de InSight dus niet door middel van een joystick in real time besturen. Alles moest automatisch gebeuren.” 

Het apparaat - dat ruim een miljard dollar heeft gekost - kwam met een snelheid van bijna 20.000 kilometer per uur de atmosfeer van Mars binnen. In minder dan zeven minuten moest het zien af te remmen naar bijna nul. De onderkant van de lander was van cruciaal belang om InSight te beschermen tegen de enorme hitte die zo ontstond.

Afgezien van het hitteschild was ook de hoek waarin de landingscapsule de atmosfeer van Mars raakte, belangrijk. Die moest exact 12 graden zijn. Was de hoek te klein geweest, dan zou InSight afgekaatst zijn en voor eeuwig de ruimte in geslingerd. Was de hoek te groot, dan zou de sonde door de wrijving met de lucht als een vuurbal ten onder zijn gegaan.

Parachute

Het lukte en ongeveer drieënhalve minuut nadat de capsule de Mars-atmosfeer raakte, ging een parachute open die het ruimtetuig verder afremde. Enkele seconden later bliezen explosieven het hitteschild weg. Dat was het moment dat InSight zich opmaakte voor de daadwerkelijke landing. Enkele seconden later stak de sonde drie poten uit. Het toestel bengelde dan nog een minuut of twee onder de parachute. 

45 seconden voor de landing moest InSight de capsule verlaten en moesten zijn landingsraketten het laatste remwerk overnemen. De boosters stopten elke horizontale beweging, waardoor de InSight loodrecht omlaag kwam. In de laatste 15 seconden haalde het toestel nog een snelheid van amper 2,5 meter per seconde. De Marslander landde vervolgens feilloos op de rode planeet. 

InSight kwam neer in Elysium Planitia, een kale vlakte net boven de evenaar van Mars. De vluchtleiding koos die plek in de hoop dat er weinig rotsen of stenen lagen die het de Marslander moeilijk konden maken bij de landing. En ook bij zijn missie. InSight gaat namelijk metersdiep in de bodem van Mars boren, zodat wetenschappers te weten komen wat er onder het oppervlak zit en inzicht krijgen in de geschiedenis van de rode planeet. Dat boren gaat eenvoudiger op een ondergrond die waterpas staat. Doordat er geen schaduwen zijn, kunnen de zonnepanelen van de lander bovendien meer energie opwekken op die plaats. 

De Koninklijke Sterrenwacht van België werkt mee aan het project. Bart van Hove, onderzoeker bij de KSB, is blij met de succesvolle landing. “Het was een geweldig moment. We hebben hier op het observatorium met een stuk of 20 mensen de landing samen bekeken.”

Marsbevingen

De KBS zal de gegevens van het Amerikaanse radio-instrument RISE (Rotation and Interior Structure Experiment) analyseren om een beeld te vormen van de inwendige structuur van de planeet. Professor Véronique Dehant is op de Sterrenwacht verantwoordelijk voor het verwerken van de gegevens van RISE. Ze maakt ook deel uit van het SEIS-team van het Franse ruimtevaartbureau CNES. Dat zal met een seismometer ‘Marsbevingen’ detecteren en registreren. 

Het vermoeden is dat die bevingen er wel zijn, alleen anders dan op Aarde. Mars heeft geen tektonische platen zoals onze planeet, maar onderzoekers denken de komende jaren toch tientallen tot honderden bevingen waar te kunnen nemen. Ook die trillingen kunnen iets vertellen over het binnenste van Mars.

Vandaag gaat het werk van de InSight meteen van start. InSight heeft vannacht zijn zonnepanelen al geopend en dat gemeld aan het controlecentrum. De orbiter Mars Odyssey stuurde de signalen door naar de aarde, waar ze omstreeks 2.30 uur Belgische tijd aankwamen. Door de zonnepanelen kan de robot elke dag zijn batterijen opladen, aldus NASA.

Zonnepanelen

De twee zonnepanelen van het ruimtetuig zijn elk 2,2 meter breed. Hoewel Mars minder zonlicht krijgt dan de aarde, vanwege de afstand tot de zon, heeft de robot niet veel nodig om te kunnen werken, aldus NASA. Op een klaarlichte dag leveren de panelen 600 tot 700 watt, wat meer dan voldoende moet zijn om de instrumenten van de robot te doen werken. Wanneer de panelen door stof zijn bedekt, wat vaak kan voorkomen op Mars, zouden de panelen nog zeker 200 tot 300 watt leveren.

Binnenkort naar Mars?

Maar zien we dan binnenkort ook de eerste man of vrouw op Mars? “Dat is nog veraf”, vertelt Freek. “Het Nederlandse project ‘Mars One’ wilde vier mensen een kaartje aanbieden, enkele reis, in 2024. Om daar voor altijd te blijven, want terug geraken is de grootste moeilijkheid. Maar dat is al minstens tot 2032 uitgesteld. En de meest valabale kandidaat, het Amerikaanse NASA, wil ook gaan, na 2030 ergens. Of de technologie klaar zal zijn dan? We zijn er nog lang niet.”

Buitenaardse schedel ontdekt in China. Lees wat deze ufoloog erover zegt

Een Chinese ufoloog is ervan overtuigd dat hij een buitenaardse schedel in zijn bezit heeft. Schrijver en onderzoeker Li Jianmin onthulde zijn ontdekking afgelopen maand tijdens een bijeenkomst in Peking, meldt de Chinese krant Global Times.

De schedel is bruin van kleur en heeft een doorsnee van zo’n 16 centimeter.

Li claimt dat de schedel niet afkomstig is van een mens, maar bestaat uit ‘twee lagen’.

De 55-jarige Li zei dat de schedel (foto rechts) eigendom is van een privéverzamelaar die het voorwerp in de autonome regio Binnen-Mongolië had gekocht van een straatverkoper.

“De verzamelaar zei dat de schedel erg leek op een afbeelding in mijn boek,” legde Li uit. “Hij vroeg me om de afkomst te bevestigen.”

Na vier maanden onderzoek publiceerde Li een 103 pagina’s tellend rapport over de mysterieuze schedel.

Andere landen

“Ik heb ramanspectroscopie uitgevoerd, een atoomkrachtmicroscoop gebruikt en de schedel vergeleken met buitenaardse schedels die in andere landen zijn gevonden,” zei Li.

Hij wacht nu tot hij genoeg geld heeft voor verder onderzoek. “Een DNA-analyse kost alleen al zo’n 100.000 yen (13.000 euro).”

Li staat achter zijn bevindingen. “Je mag me altijd vragen stellen. Maar als je me wilt uitdagen moet je wel zorgen voor bewijs.”

The Man Who Was Sentenced To 14 Years For Making ‘Anti-Gravity’ Vehicles

It’s astonishing to me how the topic of anti-gravity is still be placed in the “conspiracy theory” realm. This isn’t the stuff of conspiracy theories or “fringe” science, it’s a field full of reputable scientists and scholars, and real-world examples that have come not only from hard evidence but from extremely credible witness testimony as well.  One thing is for certain when talking about such topics: one must delve into the black budget world.

Take, for example, a recent investigation conducted by a Michigan State University professor and a former secretary from the Department of Housing and Development. Together, with a team of Ph.D students, they uncovered approximately $21 trillion that went missing and unaccounted for from the Department of Defense as well as the Department of Housing and Development. Why is this relevant? Because they discovered that the money was going to fund black budget, off the books programs that require no oversight from Congress.  This black budget world has been in operation for many years. You can read more about it here and here in two articles I’ve previously written on the subject.

Breakaway Civilization

The black budget world encompasses a separate civilization (Richard Dolan, “Breakaway Civilization”) that has used tremendous amounts of resources in all areas, from science to archaeology, to move itself far ahead of the mainstream world technologically. How many people does it employ? Who is operating it? Many of these questions remain unknown, but if you follow the money it will give you perhaps somewhat of an idea.

Any civilian who invents technology that rivals the black budget world has always been subjected to harassment, and has difficulty getting their innovations or inventions out to the public. That’s because these technologies have been ‘classified’, for if they were made public it would change everything, severely threatening the tremendous amount of power and control the global elite has over the human population.

The technology that’s been developed within these programs could change the world, but instead it’s used within the military-industrial complex for self-serving purposes, or so it seems. Efficient energy-generating devices that could eliminate the use of oil, or any other modern day fuel source for that matter, have been subjected to patent suppression.

Suppressed Technology List From 1971

For example, the previous list regarding technology suppressed was obtained by researcher Michael Ravnitzky in 1971. Most of the technology listed seems to be related to various military applications. You can view that list here. As Steven Aftergood from the Federation of American Scientists reports:

“The 1971 list indicates that patents for solar photovoltaic generators were subject to review and possible restriction if the photovoltaics were more than 20% efficient. Energy conversion systems were likewise subject to review and possible restriction if they offered conversion efficiencies in “excess of 70-80%.”

Why would higher energy efficiencies be a “national security threat?” If this is true, we are talking about solar technology that goes far beyond the best commercial panels available today, which usually can’t even generate 20 percent efficiency.

If these technologies were to be set free worldwide, the change would be profound, it would be applicable everywhere. These technologies are absolutely the most important thing that has happened in the history of the world”

Anti-Gravity

Anti-Gravity technology most probably falls into this category. According to the very first director of the CIA, Roscoe Hiellenkoetter, we know that there was an “official campaign of secrecy and ridicule” with regards to UFOs while stating that Air Force officers were well aware of their existence. Today we have electro-optical data and even physical evidence, not to mention credible witness testimony of technologies performing and demonstrating this type of technology.

We have statements from previous as well as the most recently retired Directors of Lockheed Martin Aerospace programs, like Steve Justice.  So, what did Mr. Justice have to say? Well, a lot of things. One of the first statements he made using the To The Stars platform is that, when it comes to the technologies he’s been around, worked with, and seen, it would be an understatement to call them revolutionary. They are also working on a craft that mimics observations they’ve seen in UFOs, as he stated:

 It mimics the capabilities observed in unidentified aerial phenomenon by employing a driver system that alters the space-time metric. We have glimpses of how the physics of this works, but we need to harvest technologies from the Science Division to “realize” the capability.

So, as you can see, this type of technology is no joke. Many of the UFOs we see may be made by humans, others, probably not. The point is, they are here, within the “science division.”

Anti-gravity technology has been around for a long time.

A paper entitled “Outside The Box” Space & Terrestrial Transportation & Energy Technologies For The 21st Century written by Professor Theodore Lodre of the University of New Hampshire reviews the development of anti-gravity research in the United States and emphasizes how “research activity seemed to disappear by the mid-1950s.” It then looks into recently reported scientific findings and witness testimonies “that show us that this research and technology is alive and well and very advanced. The revelations of findings in this area will alter dramatically our 20th-century view of physics and technology and must be considered in planning for both energy and transportation needs in the 21st century.”

Otis T. Carr

Otis T. Carr is one of many examples throughout history where there are clues that highly advanced technologies like anti-gravity crafts are actually legit. Given everything we know now, as well as what happened to Carr, only strengthens this suspicion.

In the late 1950s, OTC Enterprises, Inc. of Baltimore, Maryland put out a statement that was published in the April 3rd edition of the Baltimore Enterprise. The statement came in the form of a claim that the company was ready to manufacture a flying saucer that was capable of travel outside of the Earth’s atmosphere. All that was needed was a massive amount of funding, approximately 20 million dollars. The equivalent to that today is probably several billion.

Now keep in mind that this is the 1950s. There was a big wave of UFO sightings at this time, especially after the Atom bomb was dropped. The topic was getting a lot of mainstream media attention. Rumors of “crashed craft, and bodies recovered,” that Apollo 14 astronaut Edgar Mitchell claimed were real were running rampant at this time. Did ‘the powers that be’ or ‘the military-industrial complex’ have saucer technology at this time? Based on my research, it certainly seems that way.  Take, for example, a document from the Central Intelligence Agency’s Electronic reading room:

“A German newspaper recently published an interview with George Klein, famous German engineer and aircraft expert, describing the experimental construction of ‘flying saucers’ carried out by him from 1941 to 1945.”

The document goes on to describe how many people believed ‘flying saucers’ to be a postwar development. They were actually in the planning stages in German aircraft factories as early as 1941. The document then goes on to mention an experiment described by Klein:

 “The “flying saucer” reached an altitude of 12,400 meters within 3 minutes and a speed of 2,200 kilometers per hour. Klein emphasized that in accordance with German plans, the speed of these “saucers” would reach 4,000 kilometers per hour. One difficulty, according to Klein, was the problem of obtaining the materials to be used for the construction of the “saucers,” but even this had been solved by German engineers toward the end of 1945, and construction on the objects was scheduled to begin, Klein added.

Otis T. Carr, as mentioned above, had similar claims. He even put on numerous demonstrations for the public and amassed millions of dollars from extremely wealthy people to do so. If they did not believe him, and if he had not shown some promise, how did he receive all of this funding?

Think about it. We now know for a fact that global militaries have long had an interest in the UFO phenomenon. They’ve been asking who, what, where, when and how for a very long time, and of course it’s considered a national security matter. Any individual who has invented, or shows potential to invent craft that is capable of extreme, technologically advanced maneuvers, would not be allowed to develop it, and would be ridiculed like Carr was. This is why the invention secrecy act was made in the early 1950s. In my opinion, its true aimto protect the interest of the power under the guise of ‘national security.’

Carr’s Goal

His goal was to fly to the moon in his “circular foil spacecraft” on December 7th, 1959.

The “spacecraft” allegedly invented by Carr is much like the ideal spaceship imagined by Plantier and others. It is propelled by an artificial gravitic field (the “Carrotto gravity motor”) and if this were not miracle enough, it uses no fuel. It is powered by the “Utron electric accumulator”–a short of self-charging battery which “uses the Sun’s magnificent force of Electromagnetism by means of natural reproductive chemistry, to quote the interesting language of the Enterprise ad.

Below is a picture of Wayne Aho, a military intelligence officer who was going to accompany Carr on his trip to the moon. He claimed it would only take a few hours. Carr is second from the left.

Otis T. Carr was actually a protege of Nikola Tesla, according to independent researcher Doug Yurchey: “Carr and his team constructed a number of fully functional flying saucers in the late 1950s. The flying disk worked and was demonstrated. Carr was serious about ‘taking his craft to the Moon. ‘However, two weeks after a dramatic test flight, their laboratory was forcibly closed, Federal agents confiscated equipment as well as all documentation. Authorities told them Carr’s project would ‘destroy the monetary system of the United States.’  (source)

Carr was heavily criticized, ridiculed, and made a fool of by the press. I could not verify whether his connection with Tesla is actually true or not, but rumors of Carr’s relationship with Tesla were rampant, even in the 50’s.

Classic Hit Job

This is a classic story of someone who received lots of public attention and had many failed demonstrations, and apparently, many successful ones as well. Like other great inventors, Carr’s work was seized by the government. This happened in January 1961, when Louis J. Lefkowitz, the Attorney General of New York at the time, stated that “Carr had swindled $50,000, and later that year True Magazine labelled him as a hoaxer.” By then, his laboratory had been raided and destroyed, and the group of engineers had been ordered to disband and cease contact with one another.

This is very fishy, and similar to the Stan Meyer water powered car story. Looking at it today, it was quite clear that this was a huge attempt to shut Carr down. These developments and curiosities were not for our world, but were reserved for the black budget world. He was denied an appeal on March 1st, 1961 for his ‘crime’. He could not pay the fine and served part of a 14-year jail term. After that little is known about what became either of Carr himself or the craft, but they never flew again. Carr is reported to have suffered from ill-health, a broken man. He passed away apparently in Gardnerville, Nevada, in 2005.

In 1952, Carr actually wrote a book, called “Dimensions of Mystery.” The book was mostly written in ‘code,’ according to him, it was the complete layout of his plan and how his machine worked, yet for a reader like me, or anyone for that matter, it’s impossible to understand. He did switch from user code and poetry, to actually writing some real statements regarding his intentions, as you can see here:

Hal Puthoff

As you can see, just like with most other stories of great technological advancements (there are too many examples to choose from), the global elite has always demonstrated their supremacy by ridiculing concepts that don’t really fit the frame. There are multiple technological developments that have been completely hushed up, for “national security purposes.”

Take this quote from Hal Puthoff, for example. It’s not with regards to UFOs but more so “free-energy,” which actually go hand in hand and relate directly to each other. Puthoff has published numerous papers on electron-beam devices, lasers and space propulsion and has patents issued in the laser, communications, and energy fields. Dr. Puthoff’s professional background spans more than five decades of research at General Electric, Sperry, the National Security Agency, Stanford University and SRI International. Dr. Puthoff regularly advises NASA, the Department of Defense and intelligence communities, corporations and foundations. Here’s what he’s had to say:

Here’s today’s easy history test: What year did Russia or its predecessor, the Soviet Union, put cosmonauts on the Moon? (a) 1969 (b) 1968 (c) 2001 (d) trick question designed to make a point about Russia influencing US history books. If you answered (d), do your favorite Captain Picard face-palm as you turn towards Moscow to receive the news that the head of its space program announced the goal of Russia’s first human moon landing will be to verify once and for all (OK, for all Russians and conspiracy theorists) that US astronauts walked on the lunar surface. Really!

“We have set this objective to fly and verify whether they’ve been there or not.”

Dmitry Rogozin, the Director General of Roscosmos, Russia’s national space agency, uttered those words during a news conference this week where he discussed his program’s plans to send a Russian to the Moon in the 2030s. (We’ll pause here for a moment while you do the math – yes, this is also a pop math quiz.) Rogozin was born in 1963, which means he was old enough in 1969 to watch the US moon landing, assuming the Soviet media covered it and his family had one of those tiny, crank-operated, government-issued black-and-somewhat-white Soviet television sets. And if he saw that one, he probably also saw the other five, whether it was on the same old TV or on the fancy newfangled color one they finally installed at Roscosmos headquarters to watch “Apollo 13” while planning their own 2030s trip to the moon.

While apologists insist that Rogozin’s body language indicates he was just joking (an affliction that he may have picked up from watching US political coverage with his pals at the Kremlin), he’s not the first Russian government official to question the US lunar landings. In 2015, after NASA admitted that official films of the landing had been destroyed and researchers noticed that many lunar rock samples brought back to Earth were missing, government spokesperson Vladimir Markin had this to say:

“We are not contending that they did not fly [to the Moon], and simply made a film about it. But all of these scientific – or perhaps cultural – artefacts are part of the legacy of humanity, and their disappearance without a trace is our common loss. An investigation will reveal what happened.”

We’ll take a moment while you clean up the irony dripping from that statement onto your shoes. True, Roscosmos has earned some snark leeway with its reliable (until they found a suspicious hole in one) Soyuz capsules that are currently the only way to shuttle (remember those?) astronauts and cosmonauts to the Space Station, which conspiracy theorists see as the second-biggest space hoax behind the lunar-landing-was-a-movie one. How do they explain how the US and Russia push their obvious and constant disagreements and outright hostilities aside and find a way to cooperate in a joint hoax? Perhaps the Flat Earthers can help them with some of their diagrams.

They believed it!

Rogozin is not a scientist – space or otherwise – but a career politician. These are the kind of denials that come from putting politicians in charge of scientific research and endeavors. Perhaps we and the Russians aren’t so different after all.

You know, maybe those chemtrail people were right about a few things after all. Maybe they saw this coming. While I’ve never donned my tin foil hat long enough to buy into chemtrail conspiracy theories, a new peer-reviewed study published by two Harvard scientists claims that spraying chemicals out of the backs of planes could actually change the weather here on Earth. Is this what all those theories were warning us about?

“Don’t mind us, we’re just irrevocably altering the planet.”

Harvard researchers Gernot Wagner and Wake Smith published the study, claiming that wide-scale geoengineering using actualchemtrails is not only technically possible, but inexpensive and definitely feasible. Even more promising (or terrifying), the researchers claim that this technique could be used to increase the amount of sunlight reflected by the atmosphere, thereby cooling the Earth. What could possibly go wrong?

The proposed technique involves spraying sulphate aerosols into the lower stratosphere in order to create a barrier that would repel sunlight, cutting the greenhouse gas effect in half. Similar phenomena occur as a result of volcanic eruptions, so while we know it’s possible, this new study focuses mainly on logistics like the cost of such a program and what types of aircraft might be capable of making these stratospheric flights.

However, right in the introduction, the authors question if such a geoengineering project could be launched without the public knowing about it:

We seek answers to three questions: if SAI deployment were to commence within the foreseeable future with the tools and technologies at our disposal, how would such deployment be physically achieved, how much would it cost, and could it be done in secret?

To further drive home the dystopian foreshadowing, the authors close the study by adding that “any entity that intends to engineer the climate of the entire globe must act—and be seen to act—purely out of humanitarian and environmental considerations unclouded by aspirations of direct financial gain.” Do these guys actually live on Earth?

The authors conclude that keeping such a program secret would be difficult given how much airspace access and international coordination it would require, but even the mention of keeping this program a secret should be great enough for the tin foil types to keep the chemtrail thing going.

UFOs are naturally cinematic. They shimmer, they glow, they glide majestically. Though factual, UFOs are also the stuff of great science-fiction, so it is no surprise that they have always sold well at the box-office. Recent years have seen an explosion in the popularity of the UFO subgenre in film and TV (the latest addition being History Channel’s Project Blue Bookseries), and audiences now stand little chance against what amounts to a full-scale alien invasion of our popular culture. In my book, Silver Screen Saucers, I consider the effects of this invasion and ponder cinema’s transcendent power to both fictionalize and actualize its subject matter.

Several years ago, I was enjoying coffee with a friend. She had no particular interest in UFOs—no UFOlogical knowledge of which to speak. I asked her, “Have you heard of men in black?” I was referring to the factual historical accounts of UFO witnesses suffering intimidation by ominous black-clad mystery men in the days and weeks following their sightings. This very real phenomenon dates back to the late-1940s and has been the subject of many factual books over the decades. My friend replied immediately, “Of course, everyone’s seen Men in Black!” Naturally, she was referring to the 1997 sci-fi blockbuster. Decades of lived history had thus been consumed in its entirety by a 98 minute Will Smith movie. All my friend knew of men in black… was Men in Black. This is the power of cinema.

For my friend, a little-known reality had been fictionalized through its fantastical representation onscreen. And yet, cinema also has the power to actualize. Men in Black and other UFOlogical entertainment products have assumed permanent residency in the popular consciousness, and thus will always occupy at least some level of our perceived reality.

Whether or not they serve to fictionalize or actualize, what is clear is that movies of any genre inform our “understanding” of the world around us. This was beautifully observed by the great British filmmaker Ken Russell, who said that “Hollywood fills the gaps in our knowledge of the world.” This is a profoundly true statement, and, I would argue, more than a little disturbing.

A great deal of Hollywood’s UFO movie content has been informed directly by fact-based UFOlogical literature, events, and debate. I am particularly interested in how Hollywood engages with UFO lore in parasitic fashion—how industry creatives latch onto and suck-dry the rich veins of a ripe old subculture. It’s a perspective contrasts with the skeptical assumption that the UFO subculture feeds on, and thrives as a result of, images projected by the American entertainment industry (although this assumption is well-founded in certain cases).

With this in mind, I encourage the reader to ask: how has so much dense UFOlogical discourse—by its very nature fringe and subcultural—so successfully burrowed its way into Hollywood’s popular narratives? Many in the UFO research community point to a “Hollywood UFO conspiracy” designed to acclimate us to an alien reality (and to subtly disinform us along the way). It’s a scenario in which the US government exploits its close historical relationship with Hollywood by systematically seeding inside UFO information into entertainment media, slowly bringing us around to the truth of the phenomenon, or at least the truth as officialdom wishes us to perceive it. Others, meanwhile, suggest that Hollywood’s UFO movies are merely the result of a natural cultural process driven by generic trends and stemming from a simple recognition among studio executives that, when it comes to the box-office, aliens sell like hotcakes. The truth of matter may lie somewhere in between both of these theories.

My point is this: if you care about UFOs, you should care very much about UFO movies. Like it or not, they are the dominant cultural force shaping our perceptions of the phenomenon. A magical medium has distorted an underlying and mystifying truth. Cinema has moulded and simplified our expectations of how the phenomenon should manifest. And yet, at the same time, UFO movies have provided us with nuggets of truth—inspired as they are by a tangible conundrum sprung from our lived historical reality. The challenge is to separate the truth from the fiction, the fact from the fantasy. To accept the challenge is to actively, rather than passively, engage with Hollywood’s treatment of this multifaceted phenomenon. This is an essential task if ever we are to truly understand the particulars of our own UFO beliefs—beliefs which have been finely sculpted through both natural cultural process and deep political propaganda.

To thoughtfully engage with Hollywood’s UFO-themed products is to anticipate your future and to understand that truth is often far stranger than the wildest Hollywood fiction. The entertainment industry has shaped our perceptions of the phenomenon, often without conscious intent, but sometimes wilfully. UFOs show no sign of leaving our skies, or our screens. They are here to stay. With this in mind, when next we encounter a silver screen saucer, let us all take a moment to peer up from our popcorn, and to separate the fact from the fantasy. We can but try.

Some pieces of history seem to be found purely by chance. These shards of the past lie sequestered away and forgotten, often to just come up to the surface suddenly to present numerous enigmas and puzzles. Often answering few questions, or even generating more, these findings nevertheless present to us a new view of history, and often come in the strangest forms, such as an ancient creepy giant doll pulled up from a peat bog in Russia, which holds a cryptic cipher that remains unsolved to this day.

On January 24, 1894, a very curious oddity was unearthed at the peat bog of Shigir, in Kirovgrad, the Sverdlovsk region, in the Middle Ural mountains of Russia, by prospectors looking for gold. Pieces began to turn up of what appeared to have once been a towering wooden idol of some sort, pulled up from 13 feet under the ground, and a Russian professor D. I. Lobanov would go on to meticulously cobble together the disparate shards to eventually recreate an immense and intimidating statue measuring a whopping 9.2ft (2.8 meters) in height, but it was found to have once even been bigger still when in 1914 the archaeologist Vladimir Tolmachev suggested in his own reconstruction that it would have actually once stood over 17.4ft (5.3 meters) tall, massive for sure. Although Tolmachev went through great pains to sketch all of the individual pieces, some of them were to go missing during Russian’s 20th century political turmoil, leaving us with only the drawings of many of these pieces of the idol.

The mysterious idol, often called the Shigir Idol, was carved out of a type of wood called “larch,” and what makes it all rather peculiar is that this particular wooden statue was originally dated by both the the Institute of the History for the Material Culture and the Geological Institute of Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow, back to the Mesolithic period, around 7,500 BC, making it at least 9,500 years old, and other German teams later found that it was even older still, at around 11,600 years old, which for context would make it over five thousand years older than Stonehenge and more than twice as old as the pyramids. It also makes this the world’s oldest wooden structure, and it is indeed apparently so old and so startling that there was long debate as to whether the dating methods used on it could have possibly been correct. Yet it is indeed of this age, the anti-bacterial effects of the peat it was found in serving to stave off deterioration and make sure that it remained stuck in time, as if an ancient insect stuck in amber, and scientists think that some sort of preservative glue was also utilized by its creators.

The statue itself seems to have been scooped and molded from a single immense wooden log by ancient hunter gatherers, using ancient tools such as carving instruments fashioned from the jaws and teeth of beavers, as well as at least three different sizes of primitive chisels. In appearance, other than its considerable height, the Shigir idol is flat and rectangular in shape, and seems to be composed of a figure with a total of seven faces, all expertly intertwined together similar to a totem pole, with each face possessing high cheekbones, straight noses, and the main head exhibiting a gaping mouth. Upon the thorax of the statue is a series of horizontal lines thought to represent ribs, and there are numerous patterns of straight, wavy, and zig-zagging lines covering it.

Most mysterious of all are all of the various strange geometric markings and motifs found upon the statue, which are reminiscent of hieroglyphics and are thought to indicate some sort of code, but no one has the slightest idea of what it is supposed to mean, and it has been the subject of quite a bit of debate and speculation. While some have said that it was just decorative markings, this has been challenged by a plethora of theories. One idea is that the odd markings represent some sort of cryptic encoded information pertaining to the creation of the world, and are an example of a very early early writing system. Russian archeologist Mikhail Zhilin has said of this with regards to the statue:

This is a masterpiece, carrying gigantic emotional value and force. It is a unique sculpture, there is nothing else in the world like this. The ornament is covered with nothing but encrypted information. People were passing on knowledge with the help of the Idol.

Other ideas include that it could have been a totem with a warning inscribed into it to keep out, that is was some sort of navigational aid or map, that it depicts mythological creatures its designers believed in, was used for ritualistic purposes, or even that it is a sort of very early precursor to the totem pole that would later be used by Native Americans, perhaps brought by these ancient people over the land bridge. It is speculated that there were probably many more of these mysterious wooden statues at one time, but that without the preservative qualities of the peat they withered and rotten away to be lost to the mists of time, leaving us only with this one enigmatic specimen. In the end, despite all of the speculation the Shigir Idol and its code have remained completely undeciphered, making it the oldest unbroken code in the world, and it is often touted as being “an utter mystery to modern man.”

Besides its mysterious code, the idol is exceptional in other ways as well. Up until its discovery it was long thought that such ritualistic artistic representations had first evolved around 8,000 years ago in sedentary farming populations in the Middle East, but the discovery of this statue upends all of that, and shows that these ancient hunter gatherer nomads possessed an ingenuity and artistic nature previously unknown. It has, in a sense, rewritten history as we know it, yet its precise meaning and how it came to be bogged down in that, well, bog, remain unanswered. It is amazing that we even are able to study it at all, considering that it is made of wood, which is one of the least permanent mediums there is, and it makes it all the more inscrutable, of which a Redditor has said of the whole conundrum of the Shigir Idol:

At this point, our best bet is to have something else to compare it to. We figured out cuneiform and hieroglyphs because there were a lot of them. This guy survived as a freak coincidence during a time when apparently everything was made of wood. So unless there are a couple dozen more wooden idols in that peat bog, it’ll have to remain a mystery.

At the moment, the idol is kept ensconced within a special glass display case at the Yekaterinburg History Museum in Russia, filled with age-defying inert gases and kept under constant guard. This baffling piece of lost history manages to remain a perplexing mystery, despite all efforts to look into it. What makes it especially noteworthy is that considering its wood construction it should have dissipated under the relentless attack of time. What can we pry from it? What understanding can we hope to achieve by studying it? What secrets lie there etched upon that wood which has sat there in that bog since time unremembered? We may never know.
