De blinkende steen is zo intrigerend, dat NASA de rover terugstuurt om het zaakje van naderbij te bestuderen. Is het een meteoriet of iets helemaal anders? Een chemische analyse moet het mysterie oplossen.
Naast Marslander ‘InSight’, die deze week na 6,5 maanden vliegen en een hachelijke landing veilig en wel neerplofte op Mars, is ook Marsjeep Curiosity nog altijd actief. Het wagentje van drie meter lang, dat op zo’n 600 kilometer van ‘InSight’ rondrijdt, speurt onder meer naar sporen van leven op Mars.
De ChemCam-camera van Curiosity stuurt beelden van de omgeving rond de rover door naar ruimtevaartorganisatie NASA. Op één van die foto’s zagen wetenschappers na inzoomen plots de steen, die ‘Little Colonsay’ werd gedoopt. Ze sturen Curiosity nu terug om het ding van dichtbij te bekijken. Opnieuw, want bij een eerste poging werd het doelwit gemist. “Het team denkt dat het misschien om een meteoriet kan gaan, omdat het zo glimt”, laat NASA weten. “Maar schijn bedriegt soms. Bewijs volgt alleen uit de chemie.”

Daar komt de ChemCam van Curiosity opnieuw goed van pas. De Chemcam analyseert met een laser de elementaire samenstelling van verdampte materialen van kleine steen –en gronddeeltjes op Mars. Een spectograaf geeft info over de mineralen en microstructuren in stenen.
Drie andere objecten die NASA met veel nieuwsgierigheid opnieuw wil inspecteren, is de ‘Flanders Moss’, een klein object met een interessante donkere deklaag die de onderzoekers niet meteen kunnen thuisbrengen, en twee stalen van grijs gesteente met de naam ‘Forres’ en ‘Eildon’.

This UFO was reported to me on Facebook by a reader here. The UFO was disguised as a cloud and was glowing colors that none of the other clouds were glowing. It was caught during sunset in Iceland and the eyewitness said they felt a calming effect when seeing it. UFOs often disguise as clouds in order to get closer to the ground without frightening people. Often UFOs have a power to calm, relax and even to make you forget for a time that you saw them.

It seems we may have an answer, and it wasn't aliens after all. Researchers have uncovered a sophisticatedramp systemdating back 4,500 years. Located at Hatnub, a rock quarry in Egypt's Eastern Desert, the ramp was used to transport massive alabaster stones up steep angles and into place during pyramid construction.

"This kind of system has never been discovered anywhere else," said Yannis Gourdon, co-director of the expedition, which also included archaeologists from the French Institute for Oriental Archaeology in Cairo and from the University of Liverpool in England.
Based on the tool marks and inscriptions, the group matched the ramp's age and conscription with the reign of Khufu, the pharaoh who called for the construction of the Great Pyramid, which is the largest of the three Giza Pyramids. It also turned out to be the world's largest pyramid.
"This system is composed of a central ramp flanked by two staircases with numerous post holes," Gourdon said in a statement. "Using a sled which carried a stone block and was attached with ropes to these wooden posts, ancient Egyptians were able to pull up the alabaster blocks out of the quarry on very steep slopes of 20 percent or more."
The ropes allowed rock-movers to multiply their efforts, making it possible to pull a sled up the ramp, even though the sled was topped with a rock that weighed an average of 2.5 tons (2.3 metric tons).
Egyptologists have surmised for some time that ramps were used when the pyramids were built. However, the discovery of this ramp system shows that the stones were hauled at a far steeper angle than was previously suspected.

The bizarre organisms of the Ediacaran Period have long puzzled researchers. Fossil discoveries suggest these ecosystems may have been more complicated than once thought.

Some 635 million years ago, as the Earth shook off massive shrouds of glacial ice, an alien world blossomed on the ocean floors.
No complex animals prowled the seas of the Ediacaran Period. Instead, the depths held microbial mats and strange, frond-like creatures that resembled nothing alive today. Paleontologists have suggested that this was a sort of Garden of Eden, a simple ecosystem wiped away by the more vibrant fauna of the following Cambrian Period.

But recent research is complicating this view, suggesting that Ediacaran ecosystems were more complex than previously thought. Fossils also hint at the beginnings of a massive shift: scavenging that later evolved into predation.
“It’s the beginning of a major change in the ecosystem of the Earth, an irrevocable change,” said Mary Droser, a paleobiologist at the University of California, Riverside. “The ability to eat another animal is a big deal, and is a major ecological and biological innovation.”
The fossils of the Ediacaran, found in desolate locations like Namibia and South Australia, have been notoriously controversial and difficult to interpret. They include strange, quilted blobs; stationary filter-feeders; and organisms like enormous ferns, some up to eight feet long.
“At first, they were all thought to be jellyfish,” said Simon A.F. Darroch, a paleontologist at Vanderbilt University. “Later, others argued that they were stem-animals or lichens.” (Stem-animals were proto-animals: not quite plants, not yet creatures.)
Scientists also have debated how sophisticated these seafloor ecologies were, Dr. Darroch added. A complex ecosystem holds multiple species with a multitude of feeding strategies, like a modern forest or a reef. A simple ecosystem comprises only a few species with the same basic strategies.
Looking at the Ediacaran’s apparently uncomplicated organisms — without legs or obvious guts — most researchers assumed this ecosystem was on the simple side. But in a study recently published in Nature Ecology and Evolution, Dr. Darroch and his colleagues surveyed seafloor fossils from various parts of the Ediacaran and concluded that the early stages of the period featured surprisingly intricate communities.

Dive into the Ediacaran seas, and you’d see sediments covered in thick sheets of green or white microbes. There were no deep burrowers here; the ocean mud had the solidity and stickiness of a tile floor after a fraternity party.
The few multicellular organisms grazed slowly on the congealed mats or sat atop them, using different body shapes to pluck nutrients from the currents. Sea jellies, or something like them, may have floated in the open waters — nobody’s sure.
Many of these organisms had an architecture unlike any seen in modern organisms, said Martin Smith, a paleontologist at Durham University in England. While they may have appeared plantlike, they lived in waters too deep for sunlight to penetrate.
Even their precise shapes are unknown. Some may have been folded into complex patterns; others, inflated like a water bed.
“They probably grew very slowly,” Dr. Smith said, “arriving as spores on a virgin seafloor after a mudslide or land slip, then reproducing asexually to form interconnected colonies that gradually populated the seafloor.”
Dr. Darroch and his colleagues suggest that different feeding strategies were at the root of this unexpected diversity, but Dr. Smith finds it hard to imagine such organisms feeding in radically different ways.

Instead, the organisms may have competed with one another with varying reproductive strategies, he suggested. Some were able to alter their shapes according to their surroundings and then to spread their spores over a greater distance.
Even with such unexpected diversity, the Ediacaran was a still world, without much in the way of predation. But dead organisms were an easy resource, Dr. Droser said, and some animals began to take advantage.
According to a recent paper Dr. Droser co-wrote in the journal Emerging Topics in Life Sciences, a new set of fossils shows the oldest known traces of such scavenging. Recovered from the Flinders Ranges of South Australia, the rocks hold beautifully preserved fossils of Ediacaran organisms, with tiny passages carved through them.
Dr. Droser and James Gehling, a paleontologist at the South Australian Museum, suggest that these burrows were made by small animals nibbling through microbe mats decaying under thin drifts of sand, and devouring the dead organisms they found in the mats.
In a world where nothing dug very deep, burrowing would have been a biological and ecological innovation.
“The scavenging occurred after the organisms were buried, so we know that they were dead,” Dr. Droser said. “Eating a dead animal requires more oxygen and also a metabolism that can digest it.”
But Dr. Smith disagrees, pointing out that signs of scavenging after the Ediacaran Period are not like these. Scientists tend to find elaborate patterns in fossils, left by animals exploiting every inch of decaying organic matter.
“These Ediacaran burrowers seem not to care that they’ve just passed through a potential meal,” Dr. Smith said.

Members of the Ediacaran biota are unlike anything that exists today. Researchers typically find these fossils in rocks that are between 580 million and 541 million years old.
“This doesn’t sound like a great strategy for a scavenger, less still for a predator,” he added. “But perhaps these early organisms were still learning the ropes.”
Either way, the advent of simple scavenging and burrowing heralded larger changes to come. Scavenging may have been a steppingstone to active predation, and the evolution of the first predators kicked off a massive arms race. Once prey began attempting to escape, defendingthemselves or fighting back, competition and natural selection began to escalate.
There are clues that something was changing toward the end of the Ediacaran, Dr. Darroch said: signs of movement in the mud fall dramatically, as do the number of species recorded — symptoms of an ecosystem under stress.
As the microbial mats disappeared in a world of burrowers, the fragile species that lived off them went, too. The appearance of more recognizable animals — mobile and powerful, able to punch through the mats and devour other living organisms — might have caused a biologically driven mass extinction.
The Cambrian explosion gave rise to many recognizable animal groups, and for a time these overshadowed the strange, silent gardens of the Ediacaran. But the key to how multicellular ecosystems developed seems to lie in sandstones left by those chilly seas, in an ecosystem much more diverse than previously suspected.
“Life has impacted our world today from the production of oxygen to churning up soil,” Dr. Droser said. “We can see in the Ediacaran the firsts of a number of these biological and ecological processes that later became essential to our planet.”

A floating 'cigar-shaped' object spotted in the sky in Keller, Texas, has sparked a number of theories.
'Texas UFOs' Youtube channel uploaded footage of the object, which was seen in the sky on November 19.
It's not exactly clear from the video what the object is, but comments suggested it could be a blimp, a cloud, a balloon, and of course an alien spacecraft.
One commenter claimed he saw the same UFO around 10 years ago.
"That's the classic cigar shaped UFO that I saw in the mid-90s over Reading, [Pennsylvania]."

NASA’s InSight Probe Has Successfully Touched Down On The Surface Of Mars
NASA has confirmed that its InSight spacecraft has safely touched down on Mars, the first successful landing on the Red Planet in more than six years, on a mission to study the Red Planet’s interior.
A signal from the spacecraft, which launched from Earth on May 5 this year, was received at NASA’s mission control at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in California at 2.53pm EST today.
InSight, which weighs about 358 kilograms (789 pounds), touched down as planned in a region called Elysium Planitia, near the Martian equator, which had been chosen for its rather tame characteristics. Being flat and devoid of rocks or interesting features, it was the perfect location for a safe landing with few obstacles in the way of the spacecraft. NASA described it as “the biggest parking lot on Mars”.
The landing was the culmination of the so-called “seven minutes of terror”, after InSight (Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport) entered the atmosphere at 2.47pm EST at a speed of 19,800 kilometers (12,300 miles) per hour, withstanding peak temperatures of 1,500°C (2,700°F) during the landing.
It deployed a parachute to slow itself after passing through the atmosphere, before using onboard rocket thrusters to slow the spacecraft to about 8 kilometers (5 miles) per hour. It then touched down on the surface of Mars at 2.53pm EST, Earth time.
Its new home is Elysium Planitia, a still, flat region where it’s set to study seismic waves and heat deep below the surface of the Red Planet for a planned two-year mission. Learn more: https://www.nasa.gov/insight
The next key step will be for it to successfully unfurl its two 10-sided solar panels. Together the size of a ping-pong table, they are necessary for InSight to produce power and survive on the surface. NASA’s Mars Odyssey spacecraft, which is in orbit around the Red Planet, is expected to provide confirmation this has happened at 8.35pm EST.
This is the first successful landing on Mars since NASA’s Curiosity rover touched down in August 2012. Unlike Curiosity, however, InSight is not designed to search for signs of life or ancient water on Mars. Instead, it will try to tell us what’s inside Mars, and in turn reveal more about how rocky planets form and evolve.
To do this, it will use a suite of instruments to probe the interior of the planet. This includes monitoring seismic waves known as “marsquakes”, using an underground probe to measure the temperature of the planet, and studying the planet’s “wobble” in its orbit to try and work out what its core is made of.
Its mission, which will last until at least November 2020, will see the lander use a robotic arm to deploy various instruments on the surface. InSight is the first probe ever to use a robotic arm on another planet to deploy its own instruments. Two cameras on board the lander will help pick where to place these instruments on the ground and to take images of InSight’s surroundings.
It is also the first probe to venture deep into the surface of Mars. The Heat Flow and Physical Properties Package (HP3), developed by the German Aerospace Centre (DLR), will use a hammer to place sensors up to 5 meters (16 feet) underground.
We think Mars once had vast amounts of water on its surface, before the loss of its magnetic field and the majority of its atmosphere saw this water evaporate. By measuring the temperature underground, and studying the planet’s wobble, scientists hope to work out if its core is still active and what it is made of, perhaps telling us more about the mysterious loss of its magnetic field.

During the course of the mission, InSight is expected to brave some pretty testing conditions, with temperatures of between -20 and -100°C (-4 and -148°F). It is currently winter at its landing site, with the probe touching down in mid-afternoon Mars local time.
The mission also carried with it two miniature spacecraft, called MarCo-A and B. Flying alongside InSight, these two CubeSats – the first ever sent to deep space – provided the lander with another way to stay in contact with Earth as it made its way to the surface. The orbiting Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) and Mars Odyssey spacecraft also relayed messages back home.
The successful landing of InSight brings the total number of successful Mars landings up to eight. There are now two operational machines on Mars – InSight and the Curiosity rover – with NASA’s Opportunity rover still out of action following a recent dust storm.
As for InSight, an exciting future of scientific study on Mars awaits. And if the mission is successful, it may tell us more about the interior of Mars than ever before.

Scientists Have Spotted A “Lost Continent” Using Satellites
Lurking deep beneath the ice sheets of Antarctica, scientists have detected the remnants of long-lost continents. Nope, it’s not quite Atlantis, but the discovery is shedding some much need light on the mysterious history of Antarctica.
Researchers discovered the ancient continents using gravity-mapping satellite data (the same way we map the seafloor) and bucket loads of seismological information, which picked up on a patchwork of ancient key geological features on the Earth’s lithosphere, the tough outer shell of the planet that consists of the crust and upper mantle.
“These gravity images are revolutionizing our ability to study the least understood continent on Earth, Antarctica,” co-author Fausto Ferraccioli, science leader of geology and geophysics at the British Antarctic Survey, said in a statement.
Much of the data came from the European Space Agency’s Gravity field and Ocean Circulation Explorer (GOCE) satellite that cruised the planet between 2009 and 2013 on a mission to measure the pull of Earth’s gravity field in unprecedented detail. Five years ago, GOCE made an uncontrolled reentry to Earth’s atmosphere before disintegrating near the Falkland Islands in the South Atlantic Ocean. Fortunately, all of its precious data had made it safely back home before then.
Writing in the journal Scientific Reports, the team explain how they used GOCE data about how rapidly the acceleration of gravity changes, known as localized gravity gradients, as well as information about the differences in horizontal and vertical components of the gravity field. Together with seismological data of the planet, they were able to build up three-dimensional images of Earth’s plate tectonics, even in hard to reach areas buried beneath kilometers of ice, like Antarctica.
“In East Antarctica, we see an exciting mosaic of geological features that reveal fundamental similarities and differences between the crust beneath Antarctica and other continents it was joined to until 160 million years ago,” noted Ferraccioli.

It also revealed how West Antarctica has a notably thinner crust and lithosphere compared to East Antarctica, made up of mountainous folded plate crumples (known as orogen) and ancient stable rocky zones of the Earth’s crust (called cratons). This is perhaps unsurprisingly similar to the features of the region’s past neighbors, India and Australia. The cratons are also particularly interesting as they make up the oldest cores of Earth’s lithosphere, therefore they can be studied to unearth insights into the Earth’s early history.
“It also provides context of how continents were possibly connected in the past before they drifted apart owing to plate motion,” ESA’s GOCE mission scientist Roger Haagmans added.

Komende Nieuwjaarsdag, als het vuurwerk op aarde is uitgedoofd, snelt bijna 7 miljard kilometer verderop een ruimtesonde langs de ijswereld Ultima Thule.
Dit artikel is oorspronkelijk verschenen in het onlangs geheel vernieuwde blad ZENIT, waarin je elke maand alles kunt lezen over sterrenkunde, weerkunde en ruimteonderzoek.
Ultima Thule is een ijswereld voorbij de baan van Neptunus. En op 1 januari vliegt New Horizons er op een afstand van slechts 3500 kilometer langs. De sonde heeft er maar liefst dertien jaar over gedaan om deze verre ijswereld te bereiken. Dat is relatief kort, maar dat komt doordat deze NASA-sonde tijdens zijn lancering, op 19 januari 2006, een snelheid van ruim 16 kilometer per seconde kreeg. Hij was op dat moment zelfs de snelste ruimtesonde die ooit vanaf de aarde was gelanceerd. Zijn snelheid werd als gevolg van een passage langs Jupiter in februari 2007 nog wat verder opgevoerd en uiteindelijk zal deze sonde – evenals eerder de Pioneer 10 en 11 en Voyager 1 en 2 – het zonnestelsel verlaten.

Pluto Op 14 juli 2015 scheerde New Horizons met een snelheid van bijna 14 kilometer per seconde op een afstand van 12.500 kilometer langs het oppervlak van Pluto, het grootste lid van de grote schare van ijswerelden voorbij de baan van Neptunus, de zogeheten Kuipergordel. De dag erna begon de sonde zijn waarnemingen naar de aarde te zenden. De analyse van de opnamen en metingen gaat intussen nog steeds door.
Een goede gezondheid Al in 2003 werd er op aangedrongen om deze allereerste ruimtesonde naar de Kuipergordel niet alleen langs Pluto te sturen, maar ook langs één of meer andere ijswerelden. Dat zou ook een beter inzicht in de diversiteit van deze werelden kunnen geven. Maar het was niet eenvoudig om een volgend doelwit te vinden. De sonde functioneerde na de Pluto-passage weliswaar nog steeds uitstekend en produceerde nog voldoende elektriciteit, maar had nog maar 33 kilo stuwstof – hydrazine – voor koerscorrecties aan boord. Dit betekende dat het volgende doelwit zich binnen een kegel met een tophoek van kleiner dan één graad zou moeten bevinden. In 2011, dus ver voor de Pluto-passage, waren astronomen al begonnen met het zoeken naar geschikte kandidaten. De Hubble Space Telescope vond in de zomer van 2014 drie potentiële doelen en een jaar later viel de uiteindelijke keuze op 2014 MU69. Afgelopen maart maakte NASA bekend dat deze verre ijswereld voorlopig de bijnaam Ultima Thule heeft gekregen, naar ‘een verre plaats voorbij de grenzen van de bekende wereld’. Een officiële naam wordt toegekend als er, na de passage van New Horizons, meer over deze verre wereld bekend is geworden.
Deze opnamen van de ijswereld 2014 MU69 werden op 24 juni 2014 gemaakt met de Hubble Space Telescope. De groene cirkeltjes geven de positie met tussenpozen van telkens tien minuten.

Een dubbele ijswereld? Ultima Thule draait in 296 jaar op een gemiddelde afstand van 44 astronomische eenheden (6,6 miljard kilometer) rond de zon. Pluto doet dat in 248 jaar op een gemiddelde afstand van 39 AE. Maar terwijl de afstand tot de zon bij Pluto maar liefst 10 AE varieert, doet hij dat bij 2014 MU69 slechts 2 AE en ligt een deel van de baan van deze verre ijswereld nog binnen de baan van zijn veel grotere broer. Ook de hoek die het baanvlak van 2014 MU69 met de ecliptica maakt (2,5 graad) is veel kleiner dan die van Pluto (17 graden). Dit wijst er volgens astronomen op dat de baan van deze verre ijswereld sinds het ontstaan van het zonnestelsel niet veel is veranderd. Na de ontdekking van 2014 MU69 in juni 2014 door de Hubble Space Telescope, werd zijn diameter op grond van de helderheid en het mogelijke albedo (reflecterend vermogen) geschat op 30 tot 45 kilometer. Op 17 juli 2017 werd door vijf mobiele telescopen in Argentinië een sterbedekking door 2014 MU69 waargenomen. Die bracht aan het licht dat 2014 MU69 een heel onregelmatige vorm heeft. Hij is extreem afgeplat, of bestaat uit twee lobben van respectievelijk 20 en 18 kilometer groot. Het zou zelfs om twee losse delen kunnen gaan die tegen elkaar aan schurken of om elkaar heen draaien. New Horizons zal straks uitsluitsel geven.
Onduidelijk is nog hoe Ultima Thule er precies uitziet.

Ultima Thule in het vizier Om zijn doel te kunnen bereiken werd de koers van New Horizons in oktober en november 2015 vier maal een klein beetje gewijzigd. Daarna heeft de sonde tussen de bedrijven door tweemaal een winterslaap gehouden. Sinds afgelopen juni wordt New Horizons door de vluchtleiders op de komende ontmoeting voorbereid. Op 16 augustus maakte de sonde vanaf een afstand van 170 miljoen kilometer – iets meer dan de afstand van de aarde tot de zon – de eerste opname van 2014 MU69. Die vertoonde zich toen nog slechts als een heel zwak lichtpuntje.
New Horizons kreeg Ultima Thule voor het eerst op 16 augustus 2018 in beeld. Links een onbewerkte opname van het sterrenrijke gebied. Rechts een vergroting van een deel van dit gebied nadat alle sterren er zo goed mogelijk uit zijn ‘verwijderd’. Ultima Thule bevond zich precies op de voorspelde plaats.

Hoe nu verder? Een week voor de ontmoeting, op een afstand van 8 miljoen kilometer, begint de periode van de wetenschappelijke waarnemingen, die tot twee dagen na de passage zal duren. Tijdens het moment van dichtste nadering, op 1 januari 2019, scheert New Horizons met een snelheid van 13 kilometer per seconde op een afstand van slechts 3500 kilometer langs zijn doelwit, drie maal zo dichtbij als tijdens de scheervlucht langs Pluto. 2014 MU69 staat dan op een afstand van 43,4 astronomische eenheden van de zon, dus nog een flink eind binnen het verste punt (49 AE) van de baan van Pluto. De meeste waarnemingen worden verricht binnen de periode van een dag vóór het moment van dichtste nadering tot een dag erna. Net zoals tijdens de passage van Pluto worden de belangrijkste waarnemingen direct hierna naar de aarde gezonden en volgt de rest in de vele maanden erna. De kostbare radiosignalen hebben er dan zes uur en langer voor nodig om de schotelantennes van NASA’s Deep Space Network te bereiken.
De Kuiper Belt Extended Mission duurt in eerste instantie tot 2022. Tijdens deze KEM vliegt New Horizons niet alleen langs 2014 MU69, maar neemt hij ook vanaf grote afstand zo’n twee dozijn andere ijswerelden waar. Daarna gaat de reis met onverminderde snelheid door in de richting van het sterrenbeeld Sagittarius (Steenbok). Op een dag horen we nog wel of er ook een ster is waar de sonde in een heel verre toekomst op een relatief korte afstand langs zal komen.

In the newly releasedDecember edition of the MUFON Journal, the first detailed analysis of a leaked 47 page Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) document is published, offering the startling conclusion that it is authentic.The DIA documentprovides a broad overview of the official history of extraterrestrial contact with Earth, and credits the beginning of the modern UFO era with the Colorado Springs radio transmissions of Nikola Tesla, which led to extraterrestrials sending interstellar craft to investigate. This culminated in flying saucer crash incidents such as Roswell (1947) and Aztec (1948), and the establishment of formal diplomatic relations with a human looking group of extraterrestrials during the Eisenhower administration.
The MUFON Journal article’s author, Dr. Robert Wood, is the world’s foremost authenticator when it comes to the controversial Majestic Documents. These are leaked documents concerning the activities of Operation Majestic 12, which was formally set up in September 1947 to manage the UFO/extraterrestrial issue. A former aerospace engineer with McDonnell Douglas whose career spanned 43 years, Dr. Wood began his investigation and authentication of the Majestic Documents in 1995 with his son, Ryan.
In his article, which is titled “Forty-Seven Pages From the DIA: Why Should We Care?”, Dr. Wood gives a succinct overview of the 47 pages of the leaked DIA document:
Basically, there are five parts of intellectual content: (1) objective, history and organization of MJ-12; (2) details of the 1947 Roswell crash recovery; (3) details of the 1948 Aztec crash recovery; (4) condensed conversations with the Aztec EBE; and (5) issue of the national security or the risk of cultural upheaval, together with diplomatic and cultural exchanges during the 70s and 80s visiting some of EBE’s worlds.

In the leaked 1989 DIA document, Dr. Wood finds a number of reasons that point to its authenticity and why it is an error to simply dismiss it as many UFO researchers have done to date. His detailed analysis of the typing, spelling mistakes, signatures, patents referenced, individuals mentioned, etc., in the document lead to his conclusion that it was a briefing dictated by a member of the Majestic 12 group to two typists. They typed up the 47 pages, a copy of which was preserved on microfilm by the DIA as Dr. Wood explained:
If one contemplates why there were so many errors made in a document officially recorded on a microfilm, and you pronounce the word or phrase on the left and look at the correct one on the right, usually they sound essentially the same. This would be consistent with the document having been created as a result of taking dictation and having two different typists implement the words on paper…
This would be consistent with MJ-12 (stated in this case to be individual MJ-1) having dictated a one-time entry-level summary for the new person, since one apparently was not available from prior written records at the time of the alleged briefing.
The DIA document’s cover page refers to itself as a “preliminary briefing” created by the Defense Intelligence Agency’s Office of Counter Intelligence, on January 8, 1989. The full title of the briefing package is “Assessment of the Situation/Statement of Position on Unidentified Flying Objects”, and it is addressed to the Office of the President.
The natural assumption to make is that the briefing was intended for President Elect George Bush, the Vice President at the time and winner of the 1988 Presidential election. However, by analyzing the only signature appearing on the DIA document, Dr. Wood concludes the briefing was actually intended for a distinguished astrophysicist at MIT, Dr. Philip Morrison:
This is the only signature on the document, and the first question might be whether it was the entry level person being briefed or the briefer. It seems much more reasonable that it was the person being briefed
Dr. Morrison began his career as a nuclear physicist who worked on the Manhattan Project and then moved his area of expertise to astrophysics to express his disapproval of the nuclear arms race. He became famous for popular books and documentaries dealing with astrophysics, and continued to be a Professor at MIT. In 1987, Dr. Morrison was the host of a six-part miniseries for PBS called “The Ring of Truth” which examined a number of astrophysics topics.
There is important circumstantial evidence that the DIA document was a briefing dictated by the head of Majestic-12 to Dr. Morrison. In his MUFON article, Dr. Wood mentions that Dr. Morrison was on friendly terms with Carl Sagan, who some believe replaced Dr. Robert Menzel as a member of the Majestic-12 Committee upon the latter’s retirement and/or death in December 1976:
Philip Morrison was a very distinguished professor, who was a protégé of Oppenheimer and very likely was “in the know” on security issues, although I have no evidence of this. There is evidence, however, that he was very collegial with Carl Sagan during his career, helping to arrange a [UFO] symposium at the conclusion of the Colorado study in Boston.
Menzel had been named as MJ-10 on the Eisenhower Briefing document. In his book, Top Secret/MAJIC, veteran UFO researcher Stanton Friedman provided detailed evidence that Dr. Menzel was indeed a member of the Majestic 12 Committee, even though he wrote several books debunking the UFO phenomenon.
He is best known for his popular astronomy books such as Field Guide to the Stars and Planets(1964). Either prior to or shortly after Menzel’s death, the Majestic 12 Committee was looking for an astronomer/astrophysicist that could replace him. The replacement would have to have a firm scientific grounding in astronomy/astrophysics, broad public outreach, and have received Menzel’s recommendation prior to his death.
Dr. Sagan fit the bill with his scientific pedigree while a Fellow at Berkeley University when his work on NASA missions to Venus and Mars received widespread scientific recognition. Most importantly, his scientific work came to the attention of Dr. Menzel, who arranged for Sagan to be given an Assistant Professor position at Harvard University (1963-1968). Sagan moved to Cornell University, after he was denied tenure at Harvard, ironically due to the growing popularity of his generalist approach to science. Nevertheless, Menzel remained a firm supporter of Sagan.
Sagan achieved celebrity status through his popular books and documentaries, including his award winning Cosmos which aired on PBS in 1980 and was seen by 500 million people across 60 countries. If a position was reserved on the Majestic 12 Committee for a leading astronomer/astrophysicist with outreach to a global audience through popular books and television documentaries, and the approval of the previous position holder, then Sagan was the natural replacement for Menzel.
Similarly, by January 1989, when the Majestic 12 Group was looking for a replacement or an alternate to Dr. Sagan, due to impending retirement (he had likely been in the position since at least 1976) or some other reason (Sagan died on December 20, 1996), Dr. Morrison was a solid choice given his scientific pedigree, broad public outreach, and prior friendly relationship with Sagan. This is important circumstantial evidence in support of the authenticity of the DIA briefing document.
Also, the fact that the 1989 document was merely a briefing dictated by the head of the Majestic 12 Group for a new member taking up Dr. Sagan’s position, meant that not that much in the way of resources would have gone into preparing the briefing document.
The ad hoc nature in which the document was assembled, helps explain the notable security marking inconsistencies, spelling errors, cut and pasting of different documents together, etc., as many critics have pointed out.
In his MUFON article, Dr. Wood concludes in favor for the authenticity of the leaked 1989 DIA document with a number of compelling reasons despite its multiple errors. By identifying Dr. Morrison as the recipient of the briefing, rather than Vice President (President-Elect) Bush, Dr. Wood has provided the means of corroborating the document’s authenticity. Was Dr. Morrison being briefed as Dr. Sagan’s replacement on the MJ-12 Committee due to the latter’s retirement as a result of coming up to some kind of term limit due to his 13 years or more service as MJ-10?
As I mentioned in previous articles supporting the authenticity of the DIA document, its contents contain a wealth of information on topics such as the 1948 Aztec UFO crash; diplomatic relations between the Eisenhower administration and alien life; the role of Nikola Tesla in starting the modern UFO era; and the fact that human looking extraterrestrial are friendly and have been secretly living among humanity for decades.
Dr. Wood has performed a very valuable public service in authenticating the 1989 DIA document, opening the door to further close study of its rich contents and significant exopolitical implications.

Who Really Built the Pyramids of Giza? Thoth’s Enigmatic Emerald Tablets May Provide the Answer
The Emerald Tablets are one of the greatest enigmas of archaeology. They can be considered an obscure side of Egyptian mythology, characterized by events where myth seems to meet history.
Scholars consider the Emerald Tablets a legend concerning the gods of Ancient Egypt, revealing mysteries involving the ancient societies that survived the Great Flood. The tablets are known as a cryptic Hermetic inscription said to contain the secrets of alchemy and the foundation of the Hermetic tradition.

According to the myth, Thoth - the Gods' scribe - compiled the tablets. He divided his knowledge into 42 plates of emerald, codifying the great scientific principles ruling the Universe. The legend tells that after the gods’ fall, the Hermetic tablets were cleverly hidden so that no human being might find them. Only Thoth, on his return to that dimension, was able to recover the mysterious book.

According to other interpretations, the tablets were kept in the so-called Hall of Records and then later hidden within the Library of Alexandria until they were lost forever, after the terrible fire which destroyed the ancient building and its legendary books.

A very interesting legend told by Jewish mystics connects Thoth’s Tablets to Abraham’s wife, Sarah. According to the myth, she found the Egyptian God’s tomb and his precious manuscripts during their escape into Egypt, fleeing a starvation afflicting Canaan.
In that case, if the narrative is historically accurate, we can assume that the Emerald Tablets’ origins may refer to an ancient time, substantially before the Bible’s Great Flood. Therefore, the origins of the Egyptian gods and the Zep Tepi (a Golden Era or time where gods ruled in Ancient Egypt) may have an intriguing connection, confirmed by other civilizations’ legends.
It was only during the Middle Ages that the Hermetic documents were translated into Latin from Arabic, while the first European printed version was published in Nuremberg, in early 1541. The title was “De Alchimia” written by alchemist Johannes Baptista Montanus Veronensis Patricius. Thanks to his work, the ancient documents have survived until now.
Fact or Fiction?
Analyzing the legendary texts, questions surface: can we assume that the Hermetic document is a real historical fact and not a myth? What should we make of the contents and scientific codes inscribed into the tablets? Is there a possible connection between the god Thoth and the Pyramids Civilization?
According to the mysterious document, can we state that Thoth was the builder of Giza?
In my two decades of experience, I learned to trust in objective facts, as a result of a precise model of investigation. Starting from a study of the myths, I aim to propose a new point of view concerning the possibility that the myth of Thoth is a true story.

In it, my knowledge of ‘Magic-Science' so that it might be here when again I return from Amenti. Emerald Tablet I – The History of Thoth
If the Emerald Tablets are reliable, what might the relationship between Thoth and the Great Pyramid look like?

The first line, “ Built I the Great Pyramid ”, is a clear expression concerning an unambiguous assignment of the project ownership. Have findings confirmed this possibility, least of all for the Great Pyramid, within which no inscription referring to the builders was ever found?
The only exception are some symbols found on the back of the Gantenbrink’s door—a limestone door with two eroded copper handles found in shafts in the Great Pyramid’s Queen’s Chamber, discovered by German engineer Rudolf Gantenbrink. In my opinion, and by analyzing the signs, I can assume that the marks cannot be assigned to a well-known Ancient Egyptian writing, although Egyptologist Luca Miatello related the obscure handwriting to Hieratic, and its meaning to a sequence of numbers and measurements by which to build the conduits into the Queen’s Chamber. I consider his theory unfounded because of the lack of correlation among clues and hieratic writing. It could be a kind of unknown writing, increasing the mystery on the origins of the Giza Pyramids.

In 2013, I achieved a very interesting result, which might prove a possible relationship between the Hermetic Emerald Tablets and the Giza Plateau. Something happened quite by chance during my archaeological campaign at the Sphinx and its temples.

During a moment of peace, in the shadow of the Valley Temple, I observed a Giza map taken from above, thinking that each pyramid looked like a microcosm, as the satellite pyramids, fences, temples and other constructions characterize each one. Considering the pyramids altogether, I perceived an order of factors making them an independent form of architectural expression.
In fact, pyramids, seen from above, look like three very large stylus-wedges embedded in the ground. Their very special shape enlightened me, suggesting an intriguing hypothesis. Just out of curiosity, I traced some guidelines starting from the corners of the major pyramids, toward the center of the monuments, following the satellite pyramids’ orientation. Then I drew the same lines for the satellite pyramids, according to their cardinal direction.
Therefore, I obtained the following image.

Ancient Scripts Tell a Tale
It is curious to observe how a very easy geometric exercise might instill a deep doubt, challenging the foundation of humankind’s history and the origins of modern societies. In fact, to detect the possible existence of cuneiform writing in the land of hieroglyphics can be considered a crazy idea. As presently known, academic considerations about Sumerian and Egyptian civilizations story are very precise; in fact, they assume that during their time the two cultures had never been in contact.
With this in mind, I should have given up my curiosity; however, I wanted to listen to my own instincts because I found the possible connection between pyramids and cuneiform writing very compelling.

A comparison between the pyramids’ geometric forms and cuneiform writing is possible by analyzing the Sumerian alphabet, containing the symbols of each letter.
Sometimes, you begin the game for fun, but during the conduct of the pastime, you feel that something is changing, a realization is coming, and you are enchanted. I felt those same emotions, analyzing results of my ‘game’ that over time revealed themselves.
The possible coincidence slowly became something different, perhaps a detailed concept. Despite the fact that I was confident that scholars’ theories were well anchored, in my core something pushed me to improve a hypothesis never examined before. Observing the following image, it is astonishing to note the unbelievable correlation between some Sumerian letters and the signs I obtained while drawing the lines at the pyramids base.
For example, Mycerinus Pyramid (Pyramid of Menkaure, the smallest of the three main Giza Pyramids and at the bottom of the map) – with a triangle projection towards its satellite pyramids – has a geometrical form very similar to the cuneiform letter for “G”; i.e. a wedge downward. Equally, I can state that Mycerinus’ satellite pyramids look like the cuneiform letter for “L”, having three wedges downward.

I followed the same procedure for all pyramids of Giza. Khafre’s Pyramid, for example, (the second-largest of the Ancient Egyptian Pyramids, and in the middle of the map) has a little peculiarity, because of the position of its satellite pyramid, very close to the major monument. It is a very unusual architectural technique, compared to the other pyramidal complexes, showing the precise builders’ will to meld the monuments into having a single and homogeneous design. As result of this, the graphic sign is very similar to the Sumerian letter for “Z”.
Finally, the Great Pyramid (the largest of the plateau and at the top of the map) and its satellites give very exciting symbols, perfectly connected to cuneiform letters, i.e. to the letter “T” as a cuneiform towards the right side, and to the letter “H”, characterized by three cuneiform symbols towards right side.
Therefore, I obtained the following sequence:

Originally, cuneiform writing was inscribed vertically, and in the event of more lines, they were aligned from right to left. It is interesting to note that pyramid position on the Giza Plateau develops in accordance with a vertical orientation – from the highest place, i.e. the Great Pyramid, until the lowest, i.e. the Mycerinus Pyramid – and in different lines. Moreover, as the Sumerian writing was characterized for a lack of vowels, so is for the geometrical symbols obtained by the pyramids.

So far, we have observed some technical characteristics of the Sumerian writing and its homogeneity with symbols coming from graphics processing of the Giza buildings. Now, let us look to the complete sentence, with vowels, searching for a possible meaning of the ancient message:

The meaning of the message is: TeHu the Great Wise
It is very clear that the word TeHu refers to a proper noun, very probably to the designer of the Giza Project.
To unveil the name, I studied the Egyptian Book of Dead (as translated by Wallis Bydge and also Boris de Rachewiltz) where the name of TeHu refers to Thoth. In fact, one of the Egyptian words indicating the Ibis is Tekh, which sounds like the name TeHu; that word refers to the Moon as Measurer of the Time, and that is why Egyptians depict Thoth as Ibis.

The analysis is very fascinating, but proposes a series of questions:
1) The message indicates that Thoth was the designer of Giza, as reported in the Emerald Tablets. Does it mean that the Book of Thoth really exists?
2) If the Sumerian correlation with the monuments has a scientific validity, the question is why, in the distant past of Egypt, did the population use the Sumerian writing?
When one studies the origins of cuneiform writing, we find that archaeologists date it to 3500 BC. Nevertheless, it’s very interesting that when the writing appeared it was characterized by an extraordinary complexity, consisting of over a thousand phonetic symbols. Over time, the writing had a rationalization process and it reduced to hundreds of symbols. So, we can suppose that Sumerian writing was born in a very full form, and experienced a process apart from all other writing forms which display real signs of evolution. Only cuneiform is considerably convoluted – or, as archaeologists suggest, “rationalized” – as if it followed its founders’ decline.
Can we argue that the Sumerian was the language used by the ancient Gods? Can we state that Middle Eastern and Egyptian cultures, during the pre-dynastic age, were influenced by an ancient and unknown Civilization?

According to historians, due its geography, Egypt was isolated from the outside world until the First Intermediate Period, around 2000 BC—without experiencing any kind of influence from other civilizations. Therefore, the possible ‘corruption’ could have happened a long time before the pre-dynastic age. Furthermore, one of the most interesting pieces of evidence could be the numbers of Egyptians gods that are very similar to the Sumerians ones. Indeed, the story of the Sumerian Gods is very similar to the Egyptian Neteru, and the great part of religious traditions of eastern civilizations.
An unknown civilization seems to have bequeathed symbols we can find everywhere around the planet; for example, the winged sun, or caduceus, even the gods who have different names but similar functions. It is possible that this civilization could have inspired the Sumerian and Egyptian cultures, uncontacted, and likewise shared many symbols and divinities. It is undeniable that the two cultures originated from a “matrix” which lived in the distant past.
If Egyptian and Sumerian civilizations have deep cultural and religious correlations, it may mean they were generated by a lost civilization, maybe the same who built pyramids all around the planet.
The Legendary Emerald Tablets
Lastly, did the Emerald Tablets really exist? Maybe we will never have a confirmation, but it is thrilling to show the relationship between the god Thoth and the Giza Plateau, as the result of an easy geometrical game, which gave an unexpected answer to one of the most fascinating mysteries of the past. It is also interesting to suppose that the Sumerian writing system offered a Hermetic link with the Ancient Egyptians, which was historically never detected, but clear in my proposal.
All these indications can be considered very important clues and may be regarded as the starting point to understanding the scientific meaning of the pyramids and the Knowledge of which they are keeper.

GRAVITY Measures Environs of a Massive Black Hole Outside the Milky Way

Discovery is the first detailed observation of the environs of a massive black hole outside the Milky Way, say researchers from the GRAVITY group.
In 1963, astronomer Maarten Schmidt identified the first quasi-stellar object or “quasar,” an extremely bright but distant object. He found the single quasar, the active nucleus of a far-away galaxy known to astronomers as 3C 273, to be 100 times more luminous than all the stars in our Milky Way combined.
Now, the GRAVITY international team of astronomers, including Prof. Hagai Netzer of Tel Aviv University’s School of Physics and Astronomy, have concluded that gas clouds rapidly moving around a central black hole form the very heart of this quasar. The results of the new research were published in Nature on November 29.
The first measurement of the mass of the black hole inside 3C 273, using an older method, was conducted at the TAU’s Florence and George Wise Observatory in 2000, as part of PhD research conducted by TAU’s Dr. Shai Kaspi, then a student in Prof. Netzer’s group. This result has now been corroborated by GRAVITY’s observations.
The research is the first detailed observation outside of our galaxy of gas clouds whirling around a central black hole. According to the researchers, GRAVITY’s measurements will become the benchmark for measuring black hole masses in thousands of other quasars.
Taking a closer look at a black hole
The GRAVITY instrument, situated in Paranal, Chile, has unprecedented capabilities. It combines the collective area of four telescopes to form a virtual telescope, called an interferometer, 130 meters across. The instrument can detect distant astronomical objects at an extremely high resolution.
“Quasars are among the most distant astronomical objects that can be observed,” Prof. Netzer says. “They also play a fundamental role in the history of the universe, as their evolution is intricately tied to galaxy growth. While almost all large galaxies harbor a massive black hole at their centers, so far only one in our Milky Way has been accessible for such detailed studies.”
“GRAVITY allowed us to resolve, for the first time ever, the motion of gas clouds around a central black hole,” says Eckhard Sturm of Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics (MPE), who co-led the research for the study. “Our observations can follow the motion of the gas and reveal that the clouds do whirl around the central black hole.”
So far, such observations had not been possible due to the small angular size of a quasar’s inner region — roughly the size of our solar system, but some 2.5 billion light years distant from us.
“Broad emission lines created by gas in the vicinity of the black hole are observational hallmarks of quasars. Until now, the distance of the gas from the black hole, and occasionally the pattern of the motion, could only be measured by an older method that made use of light variations in the quasars,” Prof. Netzer says. “With the GRAVITY instrument, we can distinguish structures at the level of 10 micro-arc seconds, which corresponds to observing, for example, a 1-Euro coin on the Moon.”
“Information about the motion and distance of the gas immediately around the black hole is crucial to measuring the mass of the black hole,” explains Jason Dexter, also of MPE, who co-led the research. “For the first time, the old method was tested experimentally and passed its test with flying colors, confirming previous estimates of about 300 million solar masses for the black hole.”
“This is the first time that we can study the immediate environs of a massive black hole outside our home galaxy, the Milky Way,” concludes Reinhard Genzel, head of the infrared research group at MPE. “Black holes are intriguing objects, allowing us to probe physics under extreme conditions — and with GRAVITY we can now probe them both near and far.”

NASA has selected the first batch ofU.S. companiesto join the agency on its journey to its next destination, the moon, which NASA wants to explorein order to prepareto go on to Mars.
During a public event held today (Nov. 29), the agency unveiled nine new partners that will be designing and buildinglunar landersaimed at facilitating scientific exploration of the moon. In addition to the specific companies chosen, NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine also announced that the program running those contracts — the Commercial Lunar Payload Services program — is now part of the science section of NASA's bureaucracy, not the human exploration section.
The general idea is that these companies will be able to compete for contracts to deliver NASA science experiments to the surface of the moon by flying lunar landers on rocket launches purchased from other commercial space companies. But under this approach, NASA won't be alone in hiring these companies — the agency hopes to spur development that the commercial sector can also utilize. "We want to be first customers, not only customers," Thomas Zurbuchen, NASA's head of the science mission directorate, said during the event.
The agency did not provide any details about the choices beyond what the selected companies were: Astrobotic Technology Inc., Deep Space Systems, Draper, Firefly Aerospace Inc., Intuitive Machines LLC, Lockheed Martin Space, Masten Space Systems, Inc., Moon Express and Orbit Beyond

When asked what information companies had to provide in order to participate in the program and how NASA chose the winners, Zurbuchen did not go into specifics. "We went with a really broad set of criteria," he said, adding that those criteria "ask questions about the overall liability of the companies, their likelihood to be able to deliver these services, but we did not go in very deep depth relative to the technical capability."
All told, NASA is planning for the Commercial Lunar Payload Services program as a whole to encompass contracts totalling up to $2.6 billion over the course of 10 years, although NASA spokesperson Cheryl Warner wrote in an email to Space.com that each company will receive at least $25,000 through the program, with the value of individual contracts varying in accordance with the service the company will provide.
"These nine companies will bid on and be paid through task orders issued by NASA starting in the near future," Warner wrote. (The agency has said that it intends for the first flight to occur next year.) "Services they provide NASA will cover payload integration and operations, launch and landing on the Moon."
NASA has been working to encourage private interest in the moon as a way to reduce the agency's own costs as it looks to return to human exploration, first at the moon and then at Mars. That goal is meant to facilitate NASA's timeline of landing humans on the moon during the 2020s.

Maar ook die lancering gaat nu niet door, meldt het Duitse Centrum voor Lucht- en Ruimtevaart DLR. Technici hebben meer werk aan de draagraket dan initieel gepland, klinkt het.
Mars
De kleine Eu:Cropis-satelliet heeft tomatenzaadjes en een soort serre aan boord, waarin wetenschappers willen proberen om tomaten te laten groeien in een zwaartekracht die overeenstemt met die op de maan en Mars. Bedoeling is om te zien of mensen ooit eigen voedsel zouden kunnen kweken op andere planeten, maar ook om astronauten die zich nu al in de ruimte begeven in de toekomst van vers voedsel te kunnen voorzien.
De raket wordt vanuit de Amerikaanse staat Californië de ruimte ingeschoten. De lancering is nu vermoedelijk voor maandagavond.

AFPDe ESA heeft vorige maand nog weerstation MetOp-C gelanceerd.
WETENSCHAP Een Ariane 5-draagraket lanceert dinsdag twee satellieten vanop de lanceerbasis bij Kourou in Frans-Guyana. Het gaat om een telecommunicatiesatelliet voor India en een weersatelliet voor Zuid-Korea.
De lancering is voorzien voor dinsdag tussen 21.37 uur en 22.53 uur Belgische tijd. Als alles goed verloopt, moeten de satellieten zich na 34 minuten loskoppelen van de draagraket.

RVDe lichtflits leverde prachtige beelden op in de Alpen.
WEERNIEUWS Webcams hebben een mooi natuurfenomeen vastgelegd. Een gigantische vuurbol veroorzaakte een lichtflits die vanuit verschillende landen in Europa zichtbaar was. Dat duurde slechts enkele seconden, maar het levert prachtige beelden op.
De lichtflits was donderdagochtend omstreeks 5.10 uur te zien vanuit plaatsen in Oostenrijk, Zwitserland, Duitsland, Italië, Slovenië, Hongarije, Slovakije en Kroatië. Verschillende camera’s konden het spektakel vastleggen. In de Alpen leverde de krachtige lichtflits in combinatie met de bergen, maan en sneeuw wondermooie plaatjes op.
Wellicht ging het om een deeltje dat is losgekomen van een meteoroïde of planetoïde. Als zo’n stukje puin vanuit de ruimte in de atmosfeer terechtkomt, wordt het materiaal sterk afgeremd en zeer heet. Daardoor ontstaat een vuurbol.

Wij denken dat we op een planeet wonen die vrij stabiel is en dat wij mensen in staat zijn om de temperatuur op aarde te controleren.
Ondertussen staat de wetenschap voor een raadsel bij de vreemde seismische golven die zich voor doen en lijkt de aarde letterlijk uit elkaar te scheuren.
Terwijl de bevolking wordt afgeleid door van alles en nog wat, gebeuren er dingen die echt van groot belang zijn voor de mensheid en waar alle aandacht op gericht zou horen te zijn.
We zien dan gisteren een bericht voorbij komen over vreemde onverklaarbare seismische golven die de wereld over gingen en waarvan niemand weet waar ze vandaan komen.
Meetstations van bevingen in de Indische Oceaan pikten drie weken geleden een signaal op van seismische golven die vanaf Madagaskar tot aan Chili, Nieuw-Zeeland en Canada reikten. Wetenschappers gissen naar de oorzaak van de seismische activiteit, meldt The Daily Mail. Het centrum van de mysterieuze activiteit ligt voor de kust van het eiland Mayotte, naast Madagaskar.
De seismische golven hielden twintig minuten aan, zonder dat veel mensen het konden merken, en zijn vergelijkbaar met die van na een grote aardbeving. Vreemd genoeg heeft een dergelijke aardbeving in de regio al maanden niet meer plaatsgevonden. Bovendien hadden de trillingen een opvallend zeldzame frequentie – bijna muzikaal, schrijft het Australische News.com. Mogelijke verklaringen voor de raadselachtige trillingen is een onontdekte meteoriet of een onderzeese vulkaanuitbarsting. Ook wordt op internet gespeculeerd over een mogelijke nucleaire test. Een groep wetenschappers is nu van plan de regio voor de Oost-Afrikaanse kust na te pluizen om het mysterieuze fenomeen te verklaren.
Er worden vervolgens een aantal wilde theorieën rondgestrooid zoals meteorieten of een nucleaire test, maar in werkelijkheid heeft men geen flauw idee wat dit soort golven veroorzaakt.
Een samenwerkingsverband van meteorologen die gebruikmaken van satellietbeelden (CIMSS) hebben voor de derde keer op rij een vreemde ontdekking gedaan. Vanuit het gebied waarover men zegt dat er zich op Antarctica piramides bevinden, komt een sterke mysterieuze microgolf die zich langs de Zuid Amerikaanse kust verplaatst.
En nu, voor de derde keer in korte tijd, ontdekte men een derde mysterieuze (energie)golf op 26 mei 2017.
Niet alleen neemt de frequentie tussen de golven toe, ze volgen elkaar sneller op, maar ook iedere keer schijnt het afkomstig te zijn uit hetzelfde gebied op Antarctica.
Het zijn niet alleen seismische of microgolven die door iets worden veroorzaakt, er is ook iets dat er zo langzamerhand voor zorgt dat de aarde letterlijk uit elkaar wordt gescheurd.
De volgende afbeeldingen zijn afkomstig van Nancy Lieder en laten zien hoe in verschillende delen van de wereld het lijkt alsof de aarde letterlijk uit elkaar wordt gescheurd. Een vreemde mysterieuze kracht die ervoor zorgt dat de eens zo stabiele planeet dat niet meer is.
Ook in Alaska was het gisteren raak met een aardbeving van 7 op de schaal van Richter. Ook in de volgende video die gemaakt is net na de beving zie je scenes die laten zien dat de aarde uit elkaar getrokken lijkt te worden.

While businesses in the U.S. struggle to decide the future of autonomous cars and how (or if) the public will receive and use them (attacking driverless vehicles is not a good sign; autonomous cars in fatal accidents is even worse), China announced it is building an entire autonomous, robots-only city … under the ocean … as a port and laboratory for unmanned submarines … and it’s named after Hades, the mythological king of the underworld. Are you worried yet?

Or take it over? South China Morning Post quotes an unnamed scientist who has a rosy view of the Hadal zone project – a robotic Atlantis in the deepest trench of the South China Sea. It’s pictured as an underwater space station with multiple platforms and docks for subsea drones. It’s projected to cost Chinese taxpayers just 1.1 billion yuan (US$160 million), with much of the funding going to developing materials that can withstand the pressure at that depth … not to mention the volcanoes.
If you’re going to build the world’s first and deepest autonomous Atlantis, you might as well pick the worst place and most dangerous place imaginable – the Manila Trench in the South China Sea where, at a depth of 5,400 meters, the southeastern part of Eurasian plate meets the Pacific plate and create sizeable underwater volcanoes and earthquakes that could affect large parts of the surface with quakes and tsunamis. Throw in the fact that the South China Sea is a politically volatile area causing disturbances between the governments and militaries of China and the Philippines, and you have to wonder what other reasons may have prompted China to pick this area … and why it will be unmanned.
“China and the Philippines should sit down and discuss it. A tsunami [warning] is a big selling point. Data collected by the station would benefit all countries in the region. It could save many lives.”
Professor Yan Pin, a researcher at the Key Laboratory of Ocean and Marginal Sea Geology at the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Guangzhou, pushes the ideas that this will primarily be an earthquake and tsunami warning station and the data it collects will be shared with the Philippines and other countries. China’s President Xi Jinping, in a speech designed to inspire the engineers working on the project, called it a “march into the ocean to accelerate the build-up of maritime power.” Dr Du Qinghai, an associate researcher at the Hadal Science and Technology Research Centre at Shanghai Ocean University who is not involved with the project, is blunter.
“No other country has done this before. The project will make China stronger, more advanced. It will boost the material sciences, stimulate innovation and make Chinese manufacturing more competitive. It will make China a world leader in some critical areas.”

Archaeologists have discovered an ancient mask that was used during the Neolithic period (New Stone Age). The 9,000-year-old mask was found just a few months ago and is currently being examined by experts of the Israel Antiquities Authority and the Geological Survey of Israel. The mask was traced to an archaeological site in the southern part of Har Hevron in the Pnei Hever region.
Ronit Lupu of the IAA Antiquities Theft Prevention Unit said, “The mask is a unique finding in the archaeological world. It is even more unusual that we know which site it came from. The fact that we have information regarding the specific place in which it was discovered makes this mask more important than most other masks from this period that we currently know of.”
The mask was made from pinkish-yellow limestone and was made to look like a human face. It also had drilled holes along the edge of the mask where it could be tied to a person’s face or even to a pole for others to view it. Lupu went on to say, “Discovering a mask made of stone, at such a high level of finish, is very exciting. The stone has been completely smoothed over and the features are perfect and symmetrical, even delineating cheek bones. It has an impressive nose and a mouth with distinct teeth.”

The mask was used for ancestor worship during that time. “It was part of the ritual and retention of family heritage that was accepted at the time,” Lupu explained. He continued by saying, “Stone masks, such as the one from Pnei Hever, are similar in size to the human face, which is why scholars tend to connect them with such worship.”
There have been a total of fifteen masks found in relation to that time period. Because two of those fifteen masks were found in an archaeological context, researchers know exactly where they originated from and that means they can study the site. The other thirteen masks are part of private collections around the world.
Since the mask was found in Pnei Hever, it is believed that the southern Hebron Hills (Judean Desert area) was a hot spot for creating stone masks, as well as using them for rituals during the Pre-Pottery Neolithic B period.
Although this ancient mask was used for rituals, it looks more like something Jason wore in the Friday the 13th horror movies. Or even the first ever goalie masks that hockey players wore. Nevertheless, it’s one creepy, yet incredible discovery.
