Het is een lief, aanhankelijk hondje, dat zich op een week snel aan ons heeft aangepast. Ze is heel vinnig en nieuwsgierig, een heel ander hondje dan Noleke.

Ark of the Covenant may be hidden in Africa, biblical scholars believe
Bible scholars believe the legendary Ark of the Covenant may have landed in Africa after it was taken out of Israel.
The Ark is said to be a gold-covered wooden chest containing two stone tablets on which the Ten Commandments – which Moses brought down from Mount Sinai – are written.
It is also said to contain other biblical items such as Aaron’s rod, which is thought to have magical powers.
Since it vanished there have been several theories as to where the Ark is now, including Mount Nebo in Israel, southern Africa, Ethiopia, Egypt and even several locations in Europe.
Christian monks in the African country have long claimed the Ark is being kept under guard at the Church of Our Lady Mary of Zion in Axum.
In a blog post on the organization’s website it said: "As unusual as this may sound, the BASE team has uncovered compelling evidence that the Ark may well have been spirited up the Nile River to an eventual resting place in the remote highlands of ancient Kush — modern-day Ethiopia.”
According to their research, the Ark was taken out of the Temple Mount in Jerusalem during the reign of Manasseh, where it was first taken to a Jewish colony on Elephantine Island in Egypt.
After that, it is thought it was taken down the Nile to Lake Tana in Ethiopia and in particular Tana Kirkos Island, which is considered to be a holy island only populated by Christian monks.
From there the Ark was moved to Axum, or Aksum, a city in the north of the country.
The BASE Institute claims to have spoken to a man at the church who was “The Guardian of the Ark of the Covenant” and who spent his life inside a fenced-off area surrounding the church and claimed he would not leave the compound until he died and a new guardian took over the role.
The man claimed he was the only person who could look on the Ark because it was a holy object and he and the villagers would protect it with their lives, if necessary.
When an investigator from the Smithsonian approached the guardian in 2007, he was told: "I'm the guardian of the Ark, I have no other name."
While the BASE Institute did not claim the Ark had been found, it did say: “At this juncture, we cannot say with certainty that it is, but neither can we say for certain that it isn’t. What we have concluded is that St. Mary’s of Zion church in Axum, Ethiopia, is the resting place either of an incredible replica of the biblical Ark of the Covenant, or of the actual Ark of the Covenant itself.”

Overtuigend bewijs
Christelijke monniken uit Ethiopië claimen al lange tijd dat de ark wordt bewaard in de kathedraal van onze heilige Maria van Zion in de Ethiopische stad Aksum.
Het Bible Archaeology Search and Exploration Institute (BASE) besloot op onderzoek uit te gaan.
“Hoe vreemd dit ook mag klinken, het team van BASE heeft overtuigend bewijs gevonden dat het goed mogelijk is dat de ark in het afgelegen hoogland van Ethiopië ligt,” schreef de organisatie in een blogbericht.
Beschermer
Uit onderzoek blijkt dat de ark van de Tempelberg in Jeruzalem is overgebracht naar het eiland Elephantine in Egypte en vervolgens via de Nijl naar het Tanameer in Ethiopië is vervoerd.
Daarna is de ark naar Aksum gebracht, een stad in het noorden van het land, aldus BASE.

Bob Lazar beweerde in een tv-interview in 1989 negen geborgen UFO’s te hebben gezien op de geheimzinnige basis en te hebben gewerkt aan een aantal van deze buitenaardse ruimteschepen.
In een nieuwe documentaire wordt dieper ingegaan op het leven en de theorieën van Lazar.
Element 115
Dertig jaar geleden claimde hij dat hij in hangar S-4 bij Area 51 had gewerkt, waar hij UFO’s zag die waren gemaakt van element 115.
“Het aandrijfsysteem is gebaseerd op zwaartekracht. De energiebron is een antimateriereactor. Deze technologie bestaat helemaal niet,” zei Lazar, die indertijd een schuilnaam gebruikte.
Tot enkele jaren geleden heeft de Amerikaanse overheid het bestaan van Area 51 altijd ontkend. Vijf jaar geleden bleek uit vrijgegeven CIA-documenten dat de basis wel degelijk bestaat.
Lazar omschreef deze cover-up als ‘een misdaad tegen de wetenschappelijke gemeenschap’.
Mond te snoeren
Hij zei later dat zijn vrouw, zijn familie en hijzelf werden bedreigd door de overheid in een poging hem de mond te snoeren.
In de documentaire zegt Lazar, die nu met zijn vrouw Joy in Michigan woont, spijt te hebben dat hij zijn mond heeft opengedaan over Area 51.
Hij liet weten dat de FBI ooit een inval heeft gedaan in zijn laboratorium. “Ik heb altijd het gevoel dat ik in de gaten wordt gehouden,” zei hij.
De klokkenluider zegt zich vandaag de dag niet meer bezig te houden met verhalen over aliens en ruimteschepen.
Psychologische spelletjes
“Ik ben niet geïnteresseerd in onderzoek naar leven buiten de aarde,” zei hij. “Ik ben vooral geïnteresseerd in de ongelooflijk geavanceerde technologie. Ik weet dat we deze technologie, die de wereld kan veranderen, zelf ook kunnen ontwikkelen.”
De journalist die hem in 1989 interviewde, George Knapp, zei dat er geregeld is ingebroken in Lazars auto, dat er psychologische spelletjes met hem werden gespeeld en dat hij werd bedreigd.
“Lazar en anderen werden gevolgd en het lijkt er sterk op dat iemand hem bang wilde maken zodat hij zijn mond zou houden, of misschien probeerden ze hem gek te maken,” zei Knapp.
“Ik was er vaak bij en heb hen met mijn eigen ogen gezien,” klonk het.
As a follow-on to my previous article, “Bob Lazar, Area 51, UFOs and Russians,” I thought I would expand on why it would be so important for U.S. authorities to keep a careful watch on any potential Russian penetrations of Area 51 in the 1970s and 1980s. And also to mislead the Russians as to what was going on at the legendary base. When it comes to the matter of Area 51 and the 1970s, there is one important issue that cannot be ignored. And it should not be ignored. It was the early development of what has become known as “Stealth” technology for aircraft. It was in 1988 that both the LockheedF-117 Nighthawkstealth fighter and the Northrop GrummanB-2Spiritwere unveiled for one and all to see. The completely black, triangular-shaped aircraft caught the world’s attention, primarily because of their strange, angular shapes. It’s intriguing to note that in 1982 a wave of encounters with what became known as “Flying Triangles” began over portions of New York State, specifically in Hudson Valley.
In their 1988 book, Night Siege, authors Dr. J. Allen Hynek, Philip J. Imbrogno and Bob Pratt wrote: “Can 7,000 eyewitnesses be wrong? They were there to witness the huge, hovering object in the sky, the flashing lights, the eerie silence. They are ordinary people from all walks of life: stay-at-home moms, kids, business people, engineers. They tell their stories here, and they all agree on one thing: they saw the same massive object cruising over their backyards. And it was like nothing they had seen before…”
At the time when the Hudson Valley encounters were at their peak, it was reasonably assumed by UFO researchers just about here, there and everywhere that aliens had arrived and were scoping out the area to a massive degree. When, however, the Stealth planes were unleashed in 1988 – planes that looked eerily like the Hudson Valley “UFOs,” more than a few of those same ufologists came to wonder if what was seen over Hudson Valley was actually a top secret variation on the Stealth Fighter and the Stealth Bomber. Regardless of whether or not the Hudson Valley UFOs originated in the United States, or on a world far, far away, one of the most intriguing revelations that surfaced when the Stealth planes were revealed was the startling fact that they had been secretly flying not just for a few years, but since the 1970s – at Area 51. And, the secret (the top secret) had been skillfully contained for more than a decade.
If there is one thing that just about any and all military agencies want, it’s for their aircraft to be completely invulnerable. Well, while that’s a tall order, steps were taken in the early 1970s to create an aircraft that could not be detected on radar. It would, then, be the ultimate predator: quietly and carefully approaching its completely oblivious target. That is, until it was all too late. Lockheed Martin, the company which was secretly contracted to come up with a stealth-driven fighter, state that a pair of engineers, Dick Sherrer and Denys Overholser, “developed a computer program based on obscure German and Russian theories, which postulated that radar beams could be reflected by a series of carefully angled triangular panels,” which is precisely why both the B-2 and the F-117 look so odd. But, cool, too.
The most important development came in 1976. That was the year in which a program designated “Have Blue” was established as, to quote Lockheed Martin, “the stealth demonstrator that would lead to the F-117A Nighthawk.” Built out of aluminum and not much else, the aircraft was typified by the angular shape and futuristic-look. Although the Nighthawkremained unknown to virtually everyone until 1988, it was first test-flown on June 8, 1981, just one year before the Hudson Valley “UFOs” were first seen. Notably, the Nighthawk – while in test stage – was flown exclusively at night. And, while it seems unlikely that the F-117A was the culprit at Hudson Valley, perhaps a far more advanced stealth plane was.
One of the most notable of all the missions that the Nighthawkstook part in revolved around the invasion of Iraq in January of 1991. The radar-systems of the Iraqi military were woefully inadequate and, as a consequence, they flattened close to forty targets in no time at all; something which helped to bring the conflict to a close in a little more than forty days. Today, the Nighthawk is no more. It has been mothballed. But, how many other stealth aircraft – of highly advanced forms and technologies – remain hidden from prying eyes is anyone’s guess. Now, let’s take a look at the Stealth Bomber: the Spirit.
The brainchild of Northrop Grumman, the B-2 stealth bomber is, to quote the team that brought it to fruition, “a key component of the nation’s long range strike arsenal, and one of the most survivable aircraft in the world. Its unique capabilities, including its stealth characteristics, allow it to penetrate the most sophisticated enemy defenses and hold at risk high value, heavily defended targets.” It has played major roles in numerous conflicts, including Operation Iraqi Freedom in Afghanistan, in Kosovo, and in Libya. Not only that, the Spirit is capable of flying for 6,000 miles without refueling and can soar through the skies for 10,000 miles when refueled just once. And, it is armed with nuclear weapons. The B-2, then, is a decidedly formidable craft. Twenty-one such aircraft were built and deployed, of which only one came to grief, while taking to the skies from Andersen Air Force Base, Guam in February 2008. Just like the Stealth Fighter, early versions and incarnations of the Spirit were secretly flow from Area 51.
It goes without saying that hiding (from the Russians) the existence of early Stealth planes out at Area 51 would have been paramount to those working on the highly-classified projects. And, to the extent that they may even have used tales of UFOs to act as convenient covers for what was really afoot – all of which could have led to additional operations, such as the one involving Bob Lazar in the late eighties.
Duke Universityin North Carolina is known for its excellent academic programs, high number of Rhodes Scholar graduates and outstanding basketball teams. All of that pales in comparison to the recent announcement that Duke will now offer a course in UFOs taught by a religious studies professor who is also a well-known UFO researcher. Is that enough to convince your parents not to cut off your tuition money when they find out you’ve changed majors to UFOlogy?

“It’s not the first time I’ve taught a course on UFOs. In the spring semester of 1996, when I was a professor in UNC-Chapel Hill’s Department of Religious Studies, I gave a seminar called “Special Topics in Mysticism: Heavenly Ascensions and UFO Abductions.” One of my colleagues indulgently labeled it “a funny course.” He didn’t understand. Whatever UFOs are, they aren’t funny.”
David J. Halperin, Professor Emeritus of Religious Studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, offers this bit of his own history on his website as an introduction and an aid for students wondering of a course entitled “UFOs – Encounter, Mystery, Myth” is a good elective. Professor Halperin is no slouch in either of his fields. After receiving his Ph.D. from Berkeley he taught Judaic studies in UNC’s Department of Religious Studies and had a special interest in religious traditions of heavenly ascensions and otherworldly journeys, resulting in five books on Jewish mysticism and messianism. He’s also the author of a novel, “Journal of a UFO Investigator,” and has a non-fiction book, “Intimate Alien: The Hidden Story of the UFO,” coming out in 2020.
Halperin’s 1996 course covered the abduction story of Barney and Betty Hill, a class assignment to read and discuss Whitley Strieber’s Communion, and student research and presentations on, among other topics, the “X-Files” TV series, alien contact and different aspects of the UFOs’ impact on African-American culture. Halperin retired in 2000 and never taught the UFO course again … until now. Why resurrect it?
“UFOs are still with us, however, enjoying a surprising new respectability in the world that’s emerged from the 2016 Presidential election.”
He’s referring to when candidate Hillary Clinton said she would reopen the real X-files if she were elected president. Halperin’s new course will update his old one, then cover the alleged 1966 UFO landing at Westall High School in Melbourne, Australia; the “Men in Black”; the experience of alien abduction’ and a look at what happened in 1947 near Roswell, New Mexico. He’ll finish with more on what has happened since the 2016 election and conclude by discussing the same question about UFOs he attempted to answer in 1996: “What do they mean?”
What DOES it mean? It means one of the top universities in the country is offering a course in UFO studies, thus providing a little more legitimacy to a subject begging for it. “UFOs – Encounter, Mystery, Myth” will be offered through the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at Duke from January 7 to March 25, 2019. Geoscientists exploring the remote Canadian wilderness have discovered a massive cave in British Columbia’s Wells Gray Provincial Park which may have never been explored by humans. In a nod to The Return of the Jedi, the cave has been nicknamed the “Sarlacc Pit” due to its gaping hole-like appearance – although us real fans know that the actual name was the “Pit of Carkoon” and that the Sarlacc was the ancient carnivorous beast inside the pit, not the name of the pit itself. Filthy casuals.
Kinda like calling this guy “Frankenstein.”
The cave in British Columbia was spotted by helicopter crews conducting a caribou count. It’s believed that the entrance has been covered in snow up until the last few decades, hence why it hasn’t yet been documented by either indigenous First Nations peoples or the Canadian Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations. While we’d all like it to be named after the Sarlacc, consultations are underway with First Nations representatives to determine if they would like to name it.
The cave has not yet been given an official name or explored, and researchers aren’t exactly sure how it avoided detection for all of these years. “My immediate reaction was that there can’t be a cave there, it’s impossible,” said scientist Catherine Hickson. “It is huge. It is enormous. When you first see it, you just gasp because it’s just this huge hole in the ground.” The entrance measures 100 meters by 60 meters – the same size as a football field – and opens onto a shaft extending 100 meters underground. Just what exactly may lie at the bottom of this cave remains unknown, as are its exact dimensions; once the cave is explored, it very well could become Canada’s largest cave. For now, scientists are keeping the location of the cave a secret until more research can be done and in order to protect it from intrepid spelunkers seeking to find a new definition of pain and suffering as they are slowly digested over a thousand years.
Scientists from the LIGO and Virgo scientific collaborations have released data regarding a black hole collision detected further than five billion light years from Earth, which resulted in both a larger black hole and ripples through space-time. Laser detectors in the United States and Italy detected the collision on July 29, 2017, but data has finally been checked and confirmed by the various institutions involved since that initial collection through a recent re-analysis of all the collected data by LIGO and Virgo from 2015, 2016 and 2017.
The collision took place between a black hole more than 50 times the mhttps://cdn.zmescience.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/tumblr_inline_o2fi9hdAQ21srob4n_500.gifass of the Earth’s sun and another at least 34 times the mass of the sun. This collision created a new black hole more than 80 times the mass of the sun. After that reanalysis, this event is now the 11th event recorded resulting in the release of gravitational waves. Most of the other 10 were also collisions between black holes, but one was a collision of neutron stars.
But what are gravitational waves? They were predicted by Albert Einstein’s Theory of Relativity, but instrumentation available to properly measure them was decades away from construction when he first considered them. They are best described as ripples or waves in the very fabric of space-time created by massive astronomical chaos events – such as black holes colliding.
They are measured due to the fact the waves move at the speed of light due to accelerating masses. The LIGO and Virgo sites fire lasers into long tunnels shaped like the letter L. These waves traveling through space-time reach the lasers and disrupt the light. Such measurements can help scientists better understand the dramatic nature of neutron stars, which release strange radiation when they are destroyed. Some of that radiation produces rare elements like gold.
When the laser labs in the United States began their research in September 2015, they almost instantly discovered a black hole merger on September 14 of that same year. That discovery earned the team a Nobel Prize. Before the celebration of that initial discovery could be had, however, the team became bombarded with similar signals alerting them to more collisions and more gravitational waves through space-time.
As of this moment, though, the labs are not detecting anything. During data reanalysis, the labs are undergoing upgrades. They should be back running by spring of 2019. According to a report by the BBC, the labs will be able to see twice the distance, which could result in as much as eight times the rate of previous detection – meaning gravitational wave detection could become a daily occurrence.

Date of sighting: December 2018 Location of sighting: Kalgoorlie, Australia At 3.03 into the 5 minute video if you put it into slow motion .25 in settings, you will notice the UFO rise up from the ground. It had landed in someones yard and was causing the lightning storm as UFOs often do. However the lightning strike unexpectedly hit near the UFO causing a static charge around it for a few minutes. The UFO rising can only be seen in slow motion, I almost didn't catch it in normal speed, but was lucky to see it. I made a gif, which is a moving image below for you to better see it rise from the ground. Clearly the UFOs technology was causing the storm by accident or causing it on purpose to make people go into their home so they will not see the UFO land or taking off. Did you notice the four landing legs were down? Still visible in most screenshots of the event. Now either it was taking off from the ground, or...it was shooting though a temporary tunnel in the ground that came from an underground alien base 4-6km below the surface. The way this UFO shot up and stopped suddenly...makes me think it was traveling fast through an opening and in a hurry, because would you want to get caught that deep below the ground when the tunnel closes up again? Yeah...me neither, so hauling butt thought just makes sense. Scientists have no name for any natural event that causes such a phenomenon to happen. What we are seeing is a triangle UFO rising up from the ground with a static charge around it due to the lightning strikes. Notice its incredible speed when rising...its enough to fool a person into thinking it came down from the sky, when it really rose up from the ground leaving. They are not gods, they are not angels or demons, they are just flesh and blood intelligent creatures that make mistakes and get seen a lot more than most people would think. Scott C. Waring-Taiwan

“Een vliegende schotel maakte vanuit de ruimte een noodlanding in de woestijn van Utah na met radar gevolgd te zijn en achtervolgd door helikopters,” zegt de foto beschrijving, hoewel NASA niet zinspeelde op een buitenaards bezoek hier.
De sloeg-up gerecht, half begraven in de woestijn zand, was eigenlijk de terugkeer van de capsule van het Genesis ruimtevaartuig. En het was niet de bedoeling om naar beneden tekomen in zo'n brutale manier.
Gelanceerd op 8 augustus 2001 was de Genesis missie vol ambitieuze inspanningen van het ruimte agentschap om een ruimtevaartuig te sturen in zonnewindnaar een ster, het verzamelen van monsters daar en het terugbrengen ervan naar de aarde.
Door het verzamelen van gegevens over de samenstelling van de geladen deeltjes streamen vanaf corona van de zon, hoopten de onderzoekers om de samenstelling van de ster precies te bepalen, en meer informatie over de elementen die in de buurt waren toen de planeten van het Zonnestelsel werden gevormd.
Om ons de zonnewind monsters terug te brengen, werd het Genesis vaartuig uitgerust met een sample return capsule met een bus van zonnewind materialen. Deze monster waren verzameld toen het vaartuig twee jaarlang in een baan om Lagrange punt 1 - een van de plekken in de ruimte waar de zwaartekracht van de aarde en de zon zijn precies in evenwicht - reisde.
Het vaartuig gevangen zonnewind door vouwen uit een reeks collector arrays, elk beladen met een hoge zuiverheidsgraad materialen als aluminium, saffier, silicium en zelfs goud.

Vijf dagen later stortte de monster capsule en zijn kostbare stalen neer in de grond in Utah, met een geschatte snelheid van 310 km / h (193 mph).
Wat moest gebeuren was nogal anders - 127 seconden na het opnieuw binnenkomen van de aardse atmosfeer, zou een mortier aan boord van de capsule ontploffen en zo een voorlopige parachute voor het vertragen en het stabiliseren van de afdaling vrijgeven.
Dan, een van de belangrijkste parachute op te blazen en zo een zachte afdaling in de Utah Test en Training Range van de capsule optimaliseren .
In de crash foto kan u helicopters zien - ze zweven in de buurt, klaar om de capsule te onderscheppen en rechtstreeks naar een cleanroom te brengen om verontreiniging van de monsters te voorkomen.
Geen van deze parachutes is ingezet geraakt
Na een grondig onderzoek, werd de fout teruggevoerd naar een set sensoren, nauwelijks de grootte van de metallische uiteinde van een potlood. Ze waren naar achteren geplaatst.

Any species reaching for the stars is bound to have its fingertips singed. Probably more than once.
One of NASA’s latest posts on the Astronomy Picture of the Day website is an iconic reminder of the mishaps in our spacefaring history.
“A flying saucer from outer space crash-landed in the Utah desert after being tracked by radar and chased by helicopters,” states the photo description, although NASA is not hinting at an alien visit here.
The banged-up dish, half-buried in the desert sand, was actually the return capsule of the Genesis spacecraft. And it wasn’t supposed to touch down in such a brutal way.
Launched on 8 August 2001, the Genesis mission was the space agency’s ambitious effort to send a spacecraft into our home star’s solar wind, gather samples, and return them to Earth.
By gathering data on the composition of the charged particles streaming from the Sun’s corona, researchers hoped to precisely determine the composition of the star, and learn more about the elements that were around when the Solar System’s planets were formed.
To bring us solar wind samples, the Genesis craft was equipped with a sample return capsule holding a canister of solar wind materials, gathered when the craft spent two years orbiting Lagrange point 1 – one of the spots in space where the gravity from Earth and Sun are precisely balanced.
The craft captured the solar wind by folding out a series of collector arrays, each loaded with high-purity materials such as aluminium, sapphire, silicon, and even gold.
“The materials we used in the Genesis collector arrays had to be physically strong enough to be launched without breaking; retain the sample while being heated by the Sun during collection; and be pure enough that we could analyse the solar wind elements after Earth-return,” project scientist Amy Jurewicz explained on 3 September 2004.
Five days later, that sample capsule and its precious arrays smashed into the ground in Utah, at an estimated speed of 310 km/h (193 mph).
What was supposed to happen was rather different – 127 seconds after re-entering the atmosphere, a mortar aboard the capsule would blow, releasing a preliminary parachute for slowing and stabilising the descent.
Then, a main parachute was to inflate, providing the capsule with a gentle descent into the Utah Test and Training Range.
In the crash photo, you can see helicopters – they were hovering nearby, ready to snag the capsule mid-air and ferry it directly to a cleanroom to avoid contamination of the samples.
Neither of those parachutes deployed.
After a thorough investigation, the error was traced back to a set of sensors, barely the size of the metallic end of a pencil. They had been installed backwards.
These tiny devices were supposed to detect the increasing g-forces as the capsule plummeted towards the ground, and trigger the deployment of the parachutes.
As you can imagine, the crash led to severe damage, breaking several of the arrays and contaminating the precious cargo within.
Once the sample capsule was retrieved from the heart-sinking site of its demise, the project team set about to retrieve anything that could still be recovered and studied.
Thankfully, the Genesis mission wasn’t completely ruined, even after such a dramatic arrival of the sample capsule. Some of the sturdy collector materials survived, and researchers managed to clean the surfaces without disturbing the solar material embedded within.
Within three years, a series of papers were published on the Genesis findings. Thanks to the daring mission, we learned unprecedented details about the composition of the Sun and the elemental differences between our star and the inner planets of the Solar System.
“The Sun houses more than 99 percent of the material currently in our Solar System, so it’s a good idea to get to know it better,” Genesis principal investigator Don Burnett from California Institute of Technology said in 2011.
“While it was more challenging than expected, we have answered some important questions, and like all successful missions, generated plenty more.”

Researchers Discover More Celestial Visitors to Our Solar System.
Astronomers from Harvard have determined that several celestial objects they have been tracking could have possibly come from beyond this solar system. The four asteroid-like masses are located between Jupiter, and the Sun, which the astronomers have determined is a section of the solar system that potentially catches and traps objects due to its gravitational pull.
Harvard Professor Abraham Loeb and his student Amir Siraj, wrote a paper together detailing this theory and speculating that there could be dozens or hundreds of space objects from outside this system trapped in this section. The paper points to four, in particular, named 2011 SP25, 2017 RR2, 2017 SV13, and 2018 TL6. These objects do come within a noteworthy distance of Earth and have been put forth as candidates for future NASA missions, without which it will be at least 20 years before one of them comes close enough to Earth. The four objects are not as yet classified as asteroids or comet, another detail a mission would solve.
This discovery comes in the wake of the first known interstellar traveler spotted last year spinning through our solar system. Oumuamua has been classified as an asteroid but it's confusing characteristics, some being more in line with a comet, mean that the jury is still out on this. Oumuamua, which is Hawaiian for “scout”, was detected by the University of Hawaii in October 2017 and its odd properties including the reddish color, ultra reflectiveness, and cigar-shape have led some to speculate that it may be artificial. The idea that the four interstellar visitors in Siraj and Loeb’s paper could also be artificial was addressed by Siraj who claimed that there is no current evidence to back this. Referring to Oumuamua, Professor Loeb states that some of the data collected so far on the object could lend support to the idea that it may have been deliberately formed.
Why Harvard Scientists Think This Object Is An Alien Spacecraft
While a picture painted on the wall of a cave appears to show a hunter collapsing in front of a disemboweled beast over 15,000 years ago, it may also indicate a more astronomical meaning. The ancient cave art, which was found at Lascaux (near Montignac) in France, were positioned in such a way that they may have been signs of the zodiac and was telling the story of a cataclysmic event.
A group of teenagers discovered the cave paintings in the 1940s and experts have been trying to understand the meaning of the art ever since. While it’s unclear exactly when the 600 images were created, it is believed that they are up to 17,000 years old.

The paintings found at Lascaux were being compared to zoomorphic artworks that were discovered at Neolithic sites from Göbekli Tepe and Çatalhöyük in Turkey. The research was conducted by experts from the Universities of Edinburgh and Kent. They indicated that instead of lions, bulls, and scorpions portraying animals that are seen on Earth, they could have been drawn to represent constellations in the sky.
Chemical engineer Martin Sweatman, who was one of the study’s authors, claimed “Early cave art shows that people had advanced knowledge of the night sky within the last Ice Age.” If this is indeed factual, that would mean that the cave art found at Lascaux was created to record a significant event that occurred during the annual Taurid meteor shower approximately 17,000 years ago.
At first glance, it looks as though the painting was of a man collapsing in front of a disemboweled animal while a bird watches and a rhinoceros looking away. There was also a horse head that was drawn on another part of the wall. And there were geometric shapes, odd lines, and dots drawn throughout the pictures. But after further analysis, they could very well have indicated constellations in the sky.
The disemboweled bison-like animal, called an auroch, could represent the Capricorn constellation during the summer equinox, while the bird could indicate Libra during the spring equinox. While it’s unclear what the other animals are symbolizing, they could be representing Leo and Taurus during other equinoxes. These paintings could indicate that around 15,150 BCE, a cataclysmic event could have affected humans. In fact, the climate started to shift at around 15,300 BCE according to records that were taken from Greenland’s ice cores.
Last year, the stone carvings that were discovered at Göbekli Tepe were examined and it is believed that they were indicating a comet that struck Earth that was more than likely responsible for a brief return to the Ice Age climate approximately 13,000 years ago.
Another example of potential art work hinting at an astronomical event is a 40,000-year-old carving of an upright lion that was discovered in the Hohlenstein cave located in Germany. Sweatman explained, “These findings support a theory of multiple comet impacts over the course of human development, and will probably revolutionize how prehistoric populations are seen.”

"There was a Coldwell Banker Christmas party at Kelowna Golf and Country club Friday night with a "Great Gatsby" theme and we had the lights going all night," says McGowan.
Nico Boesten, the manager with New Horizon Productions in Kelowna was responsible for setting up the lights. "We call them the Batman or Hollywood lights. We just got them and we've been using them a lot at different galas and rock concerts and the like."
Boesten tells Castanet, "I love that somebody called in, this is crazy!"

A faithful Castanet reader has sent us a video of what he describes as strange lights in the sky above Kelowna.
Brett Wade says he saw the lights on Friday night when he stepped outside while at work.
"First of all, I'm not really one of those UFO guys, I don't wear aluminum hats or anything," Wade says.
Wade says he walked out of work and looked up to see what he describes a formation of two lights spiraling around each other in a consistent pattern. "I thought at first it must be spotlights because I've seen that before but I couldn't see a lights source below so I ruled that out."
The first thing he did after recording the strange sight was to check Castanet to see if there were any other reports of the strange phenomenon. "I didn't see anything, the next day still nothing, so I thought I'd send this video to you guys to see if there is an explanation."
Wade says he and his co-worker watched the lights for a total of ten minutes before moving on and that the lights seemed to be drifting in a northwest direction.
"We were both wanting to write this off as nothing," Wade says and at this point, it remains an Okanagan mystery.
A planetary alignment this week will see seismic unrest around the globe and potentially exacerbating an extremely powerful earthquake. The Earth, moon, Venus and Uranus will align in pour solar system in the coming days which could cause worldwide destruction. The gravitational pull of the celestial bodies either side of our planet could pull on Earth’s tectonic plates, according to the prediction.
As the plates are tugged apart, they could cause earthquakes around the globe.
This is according to ‘New-age earthquake forecasting’ website Ditrianum, run by researcher Frank Hoogerbeets, who said an earthquake as strong as a magnitude eight could hit.
Writing on his website, Mr Hoogerbeets said: “Seismic unrest is expected in the coming days, possibly peaking high 6 to 7 magnitude.
“Throughout the week doesn't look much better. Especially from the 7th to the 10th may be highly critical with the potential of a magnitude 8+ earthquake.”

A magnitude eight quake would be truly catastrophic.
It is categorised as a “great earthquake” and according to Michigan Tech, it “can totally destroy communities near the epicentre.”
Mr Hoogerbeets made the prediction using his Solar System Geometry Index (SSGI) which “is the computation of a dataset for a specific time-frame of values given to specific geometric positions of the planets, the Moon and the Sun”.
He added: “After three years of observations, it became clear that some planetary geometry in the Solar System clearly tends to cause a seismic increase, while other geometry does not.”

But experts have dismissed Mr Hoogerbeets’ claims, saying that there is no way earthquakes can be predicted.
John Bellini, a geophysicist at the US Geological Survey (USGS) has said: “We can't predict or forecast earthquakes.
"Sometimes before a large earthquake you'll have a foreshock or two, but we don't know they're foreshocks until the big one happens.”
Humans have yet to find any definitive proof of the existence of intelligent extraterrestrial life but one NASA scientist believes we may be getting in our own way and might have already ignored alien visits to our planet.
"I simply want to point out the fact that the intelligence we might find and that might choose to find us (if it hasn’t already) might not be at all be produced by carbon-based organisms like us," Silvano P. Colombano, a computer scientist at NASA Ames Research Center, wrote in the research paper published December 4.
The scientist theorizes that our whole approach to searching for extraterrestrial intelligent life may actually be holding us back from discovering it, adding that we must "revisit even our most cherished assumptions."

Instead of limiting ourselves to current presuppositions based on what we think we know about the universe, Colombano instead proposes a more free-form, blue sky thinking approach as, 'life' may not always conform to our current model, it may already have visited us in forms beyond our comprehension, attempting to communicate with us using technology beyond the realm of our current scientific understanding.
Colombano encourages the scientific community to broaden its horizons when looking for aliens, postulating that the current human lifespan may no longer be a problem in the near future as technological advancements continue to dramatically improve both the quality and length of our lives, affording us a different perception of interstellar travel in the process.
He accepts that the speed of light and interstellar travel may prove to be “an unbreakable barrier, over spans of thousands of years,” but that we shouldn’t operate under an automatically constrained set of possibilities.
He argues that technology as we know it only began development approximately 10,000 years ago, with many of the fundamental scientific methodologies upon which our current understanding of the universe is based coming to light in the past 500 years or so.
“We can surmise that we might have a real problem in predicting technological evolution even for the next thousand years, let alone 6 Million times that amount!” he explains. With this in mind, he advocates for a more “speculative approach” to physics.
According to his LinkedIn profile, Colombano holds a PhD in Biophysics, and is a specialist in Artificial Intelligence, Bio-Inspired computation and Robotics. He is apparently known for “brainstorming ideas and writing both technical and philosophical material” especially within the realm of "Self-sustaining Robotic Systems.”
The expert concludes the paper by calling on technologists to explore “Evolvable Robotic Systems” while also beseeching the scientific community to look deeper into existing reports of UFOs and extraterrestrial phenomena including, but not limited to, a close examination of “130,000 pages of declassified US Air Force documents, National UFO Reporting Center Database and several other international databases.”
Earth is defenseless against asteroids that could cause utter annihilation, says former NASA astronaut Russell “Rusty” Schweickart.
No, he didn’t spot any hostile extraterrestrials during his time in space. Schweickart told Business Insider at last month that he’s concerned aboutEarth’s inability to spot and monitorpotentially-disastrous asteroid impacts.
All it would take to fix that, Schweickart went on to explain, is if NASA would allocate the $40 million needed to launch an orbital observatory called the Near-Earth Object Camera(NEOCam), which was specifically built to detect asteroids but has been sitting idly since it was constructed in 2006. NEOCam would assist current land-based observatories by getting a clearer view of the sky as it orbits the planet.
“It’s a critical discovery telescope to protect life on Earth, and it’s ready to go,” Schweickart told Business Insider.
Unexciting Bureaucracy
The problem, as Schweickart sees it, is NASA’s preference to fund exciting projects and missions that will make equally-exciting scientific discoveries. Because NEOCam is unlikely to help scientists learn anything new about the cosmos — unless you consider an asteroid hurtling toward the earth to be new and exciting — it’s been pushed to the side year after year.
NASA gave $35 million to NEOCam in its 2018 budget, which is enough to keep the program running but not enough to get it into space, where it could actually make a difference.

Of course, should it someday reach orbit, NEOCam will only help scientists better detect incoming asteroids — not divert them.
That’s good news that would help people better plan for it on the ground, but because the technology behind NASA’s Asteroid Redirect Mission is still under development, actually stopping an asteroid on a collision course with Earth is still action hero territory.

After a two-year chase, a Nasa probe has reached the ancient asteroid Bennu. The robotic explorer Osiris-Rex pulled within 12 miles (19km) of the diamond-shaped object on Monday and will go into orbit around it on 31 December. No spacecraft has ever orbited such a small body.
Bennu is considered a potentially hazardous asteroid – it is due to make a close pass of Earth about 150 years. If it collided with Earth, Bennu would probably cause a crater.
Osiris-Rex aims to collect at least 60 grams (two ounces) of dust and gravel, the first such attempt by the US after a smaller mission to another asteroid by Japan. The spacecraft won’t land but use a three-metre mechanical arm in 2020 to momentarily touch down and pick up particles. The sample container is planned to break loose and head toward Earth in 2021.
The collection – parachuting down to Utah – would represent the biggest such haul since the Apollo astronauts hand-delivered moon rocks to Earth in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
Scientists hope to learn more about the source of water in the solar system and the origins of organic molecules from which life first arose. Getting their hands on pristine asteroid material might also yield clues about how to mine them for valuable materials and defend against wayward ones that might threaten Earth.

Flight controllers applauded and exchanged high-fives on Monday once confirmation came through that Osiris-Rex made it to Bennu – exactly one week after Nasa landed a spacecraft on Mars.

Bennu is 76m miles (122m km) away so it took seven minutes for word of the success to reach flight controllers at Lockheed Martin in Littleton, Colorado, where the spacecraft was built.
Bennu is estimated to be just over 1,600ft (500 metres) across. Researchers will provide a more precise description at a scientific meeting on Monday next week in Washington.
About the size of a large car, the spacecraft will shadow the asteroid for a year, before scooping up some gravel for return to Earth in 2023.
A Japanese spacecraft, meanwhile, has been hanging out at another near-Earth asteroid since June, also for samples. It is Japan’s second asteroid mission. This latest rock is named Ryugu and is about double the size of Bennu.
Ryugu’s specks should be here by December 2020 but will be far less than Osiris-Rex’s promised booty.

Nasa has brought back comet dust and solar wind particles before but never asteroid samples. Japan managed to return some tiny particles in 2010 from its first asteroid mission, named Hayabusa.
Contact with Bennu will not significantly change its orbit or make it more dangerous to Earth, Lauretta stressed.
The $800m Osiris-Rex mission began with a 2016 launch from Cape Canaveral, Florida. Its odometer read 1.2bn miles (2bn km) as of Monday.
Both the spacecraft and asteroid’s names come from Egyptian mythology. Osiris is the god of the afterlife, while Bennu represents the heron and creation.
Osiris-Rex is actually a Nasa acronym for origins, spectral interpretation, resource identification, security-regolith explorer.
