This interesting footage of a triangular-shaped UFO was filmed over Warren, MI on 20th December 2018.
Witness report:
Witnessed a slow moving hovering triangular craft with 3 distinct lights at each corner and a red bliinking light in the center. Driving south on Hoover road just south of 11 mile service drive when i witnessed a craft moving slowly in the sky; at first i thought this was a helicopter because of how slow it was moving through the sky. As it hovered slowly i stopped my car and took out my phone to video record what i was actually seeing. It was NOT a helicopter, did not hear any noise. It wasnt fast like a passenger aircraft. At hoover road it appeared to have changed direction and the craft flew towards the western sky. The direction change wasnt sudden or onset. The flight path of the object seemed to match the paths of other jets landing at Detroit Metro Airport but i can say for certain this was not a plane. Look at the video, it’s dark, yes, but you can see that it does not appear to be a plane. This is my second time witnessing a flying triangular craft. The first one was witnessed in Birmingham, MI.
ORIGIN STORY The frigid and radiation-rich conditions in stellar nurseries like the Eagle Nebula, shown here in an image from the European Space Agency’s Herschel Space Telescope, could have created the sugar that makes up DNA.
For the first time, scientists have made 2-deoxyribose, the sugar that makes up the backbone of DNA, under cosmic conditions in the lab by blasting ice with radiation. The result, reported December 18 in Nature Communications, suggests that there are several ways for prebiotic chemistry to take place in space, and supports the idea that the stuff of life could have been delivered to Earth from elsewhere.
“It tells us that this process happens everywhere, at least in our galaxy,” says astrochemist Michel Nuevo of NASA’s Ames Research Center in Moffett Field, Calif.
Nuevo and his colleagues cooled ices of frozen water and methanol to about –260° Celsius inside a vacuum chamber and blasted the ice with ultraviolet light, mimicking the conditions found in interstellar clouds. Warming the irradiated ices simulated what happens when a young star is born. After analyzing the ice’s contents, the team identified 2-deoxyribose, as well as several other kinds of sugars made in similar experiments in the past (SN: 4/30/16, p. 18).
Experiments that had made ribose, the sugar of RNA, suggested that the sugars could be built up from reactions involving the simple molecule formaldehyde, which has been found in comets (SN Online: 10/23/14). But those reactions always lead to sugars with more oxygen molecules than deoxyribose has, Nuevo says. “The fact that we made deoxyribose points to another kind of mechanism.”
Nuevo and his colleagues also found simple deoxy sugars in meteorite samples, but not deoxyribose. That could suggest that, although deoxyribose can form in ices that predate stars, the sugar is not stable in the rocks that ultimately form planets.
Two ongoing asteroid missions might be able to help figure out why. Japan’s Hayabusa2 mission (SN Online: 6/27/18) and NASA’s OSIRIS-REx mission (SN Online: 12/10/18) will bring samples back to Earth, where scientists can search them for signs of deoxyribose and other biologically important molecules.

Conspiracy theorists think that the glowing unidentified flying object observed in the skies of San Francisco is substantial evidence of extraterrestrial life.
Just a few days after three pilots reported observing a UFO in the skies above Ireland, a passenger airplane has now seemingly spotted a mysterious flying object over San Francisco.
YouTube user Joel Cardoso originally uploaded the clip of the strange sighting to YouTube and the video gained popularity after conspiracy theory YouTube channel Mavi777 shared it.
The video shows a glowing orb hovering in the skies and staying static throughout the running time of the clip. The witness who took the video claimed that it was shot during the journey from Miami to California.
However, experts argue that the UFO in the video could be either reflection from the airplane window or ball lightning.
Extraterrestrial enthusiasts were into a frenzy a few days back when three pilots reported their UFO sightings while in contact with the Shannon Air Traffic Control.
A female British pilot first reported the bizarre event involving a speeding UFO that came up along the left side of the airplane before it quickly moved to the North.
Another pilot claimed to have witnessed somewhat the same thing stating that the UFO was speeding at twice the speed of sound.

The dream of establishing a human colony on Mars goes back decades, and it will likely be at least many more decades before anything comes to fruition. But the immense technical challenge presented by human exploration of Mars has not deterred scientists from sketching out optimal strategies for long-term habitation on the Red Planet.
The latest iteration of the long tradition of speculative Mars bases is now in development at the Swiss university École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). This concept focuses on constructing an igloo-like structure at the planet’s north pole. Forthcoming research in Acta Astronautica led by Anne-Marlene Rüede, a student at EPFL’s Space Engineering Center (eSpace), describes how ice and dust at Mars’s poles could be harvested to supply water, fuel, and building materials for a future base.
“The poles may pose more challenges in the beginning, but they are the best location for the long term since they harbor natural resources that we may be able to use,” said Rüede in a statement.
The modular structures of the EPFL design—a core, capsules, and a dome—would be constructed in advance by robots from onsite materials. The pressure-sealed dome would be coated in an ice shell three-meters thick for insulation and protection from radiation and meteorite impacts, which are common on the Martian surface.

Once living spaces and life support systems are in place, the EPFL team envisions a six-person human crew voyaging to the planet during the six-month-long Martian northern summer, when sunlight is abundant for solar power production (the Martian calendar has longer seasons than Earth’s calendar, because the Martian year lasts 687 Earth days).
The crew would spend around nine months further developing the artificial habitat. Some supplies would have to be sent from Earth, and would be intercepted in Mars orbit by a local base spacecraft fueled by Martian resources.
Much like Lockheed Martin’s Mars Base Camp design or SpaceX’s Mars colony concept, the EPFL habitat aims to anticipate the best procedures to establish a long-term human presence on Mars. Whether any of these concepts will ultimately get road-tested on Mars remains up in the air, however, so don’t get too attached to the idea of kickin’ it like some Martian Santa Claus in an igloo at the planet’s north pole.
The true identity of Arabia Terra’s dark, oasis-like patches.
This morning, the European Space Agency (ESA) releaseda fascinating satellite imageof Mars, taken by the agency's Mars Express orbiter. It depicts the planet's Arabia Terra region, which may ring a bell with fans of Andy Weir's The Martian.
This densely cratered tract of land, which isabout 4,500 kilometers wide, made for a handy plot device in Weir's novel. Now the ESA picture demonstrates that its literary cred is far from the only interesting thing about it.
For instance, take the two bluish patches located in Arabia Terra's craters which, at first glance, look almost like water-rich oases in the Martian desert. Alas, this is only a mirage effect of the orbiter's perspective and image processing—in reality, the spots are windswept accumulations of dark, basalt-rich sediments. These minerals are deposited into the craters by the planet's colossal dust storms, which can enshroud the entire planet for weeks at a time, kicking up massive amounts of debris and eroding Martian surface features.
Arabia Terra is a great place to study the geological fallouts of these stormy ragers, because it is among the most ancient regions on the planet. Billions of years of cumulative dust erosion and sedimentary deposits are laid bare across this battered landscape, providing a comprehensive window into Arabia Terra's tumultuous past.

The region's more recent craters—like the one created by a meteorite impact about 12 years ago—boast sharper edges than older impact scars that have been sanded down over time. This diverse collection of young and old surface features distinguishes Arabia Terra as one of the most geologically distinct regions on Mars.
According to a 2007 paper published in the journal Icarus, Arabia Terra boasts mysterious outflow channels with no obvious origins, and evidence of a rich paleotectonic history, while more recent studies suggest it was home to supervolcanoessome 3.7 billion years ago, further upping the region's mystique. In short: Arabia Terra is a bizarre jumble of geological oddities that contextualize Mars's past in ways that few other regions can.
As weird as the area is, however, images like this one from Mars Express hit home that alien worlds are subject to much of the same natural processes as Earth, just with altered parameters. Indeed, Mars isn't the only extraterrestrial environment that has been visibly shaped by winds and storms—Saturn's moon Titan is also sculpted by these processes.
While neither of these worlds are hospitable to humans (for now), the fact that scientists continue to observe familiar phenomena in our own solar system bodes well for finding Earthlike environments elsewhere in the universe.
And though at this point, only fictional astronauts have visited Arabia Terra, that may soon change given NASA's recent ambitious commitments to putting a human on Mars in the 2030s. The region is tantalizing enough from the Mars Express's perspective in outer space. Perhaps it's time we took a closer look.

The Mars Express orbiter has sent a festive postcard back to Earth just in time for the holidays. On Thursday, the European Space Agency (ESA)released the spacecraft’s viewof a “winter wonderland” of ice inside Korolev crater.
The crater is located at the Martian north pole, so it may as well be the imaginary headquarters for the Martian Santa Claus. It may also be a not-so-imaginary home for humans one day, asigloo-like domes at the Martian north polehave been floated as one possibility for inhabiting the planet.
The image is especially timely because Mars Express will celebrate its 15th anniversary in Martian orbit on Christmas Day.
Named for the influential Soviet rocket engineer Sergey Korolev, the impact crater is 82 kilometers (50 miles) in diameter and contains a permanent ice field that stretches over a mile deep. Mars Express captured its view with its High Resolution Stereo Camera (HRSC), creating a composite image out of five orbital passes over the region.
Korolev crater was also recently imaged by the ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter (TGO), which is jointly operated by ESA and the Russian space agency Roscosmos.

The TGO’s Colour and Stereo Surface Imaging System (CaSSIS) instrument captured a topographical view of the formation on April 4, which shows the slope of the crater in blues and purples.
The ice field is chilled by a “cold trap” of air that insulates the crater and keeps it perennially filled with frozen water. It would be a great place to go for a skate, so long as you don’t mind low gravity, unbreathable air, and high doses of radiation.
Cool crater portraits aren’t the only seasonal gifts we’re getting from our Martian robots this week. NASA also announced that its InSight lander, which touched down on Mars on November 26, successfully placed its seismometer on the surface with its robotic arm on Wednesday.

This marked the first time that a seismometer has been placed on an alien world. This instrument is designed to pick up “Marsquakes” caused by geological faults or asteroid impacts, like the one that formed Korolev crater.
"InSight's timetable of activities on Mars has gone better than we hoped," said InSight project manager Tom Hoffman in a statement. "Getting the seismometer safely on the ground is an awesome Christmas present."

For many years, pharaohs were buried in the Valley of the Kings on the banks of the River Nile in Egypt, with 64 tombs already opened.
However, Netflix documentary series "Top 10 Secrets and Mysteries" series revealed how one discovery left researchers both baffled and terrified.
“The famous tomb of Tutankhamun was discovered in 1922,” the 2017 documentary detailed.
“Soon after the discovery, mysterious deaths were reported among the team of archaeologists who found the tomb.
“The deaths were ascribed to a curse cast by the pharaohs to ward off grave-robbers.

Today, archaeologists wear protective masks when entering such resting places.
They are aware that bacteria active in the decomposed organic material can enter open wounds and spread infection.
However, not all deaths can be accredited to this, in addition to the bizarre experiences some researchers still have following the openings.
Some have detailed how they experienced very vivid dreams, claiming to be “haunted” by the mummies they apparently disturbed.

Econoom Mark Skidmore kwam tot de ontdekking dat heel, heel, heel veel geld bij het Pentagon in een zwart gat lijkt te belanden en schreef er een artikel over voor Forbes.
Het artikel ging viral, maar het Amerikaanse Congres en de overige mainstream media zwegen in alle toonaarden.
Iets opvallends
Enkele weken geleden gebeurde er iets opvallends. Tijdens een persconferentie in het Pentagon merkte onderminister van Defensie Patrick Shanahan terloops op dat het Pentagon zijn allereerste audit niet heeft doorstaan.
Het was voor het eerst dat het Pentagon werd onderworpen aan een audit, hoewel dit eigenlijk al sinds de jaren negentig wettelijk verplicht is.
Opnieuw bleef het oorverdovend stil. Pas twee weken na de persconferentie schreef de New York Times er iets over.

PRESIDENT Donald Trump must know America’s UFO secrets - and it may have contributed to his plans for a military Space Force, according to a defence insider.
Nick Pope, who used to run the Ministry of Defence’s UFO project, said it would be “nonsense” to suggest the President is being kept in the dark about potential UFO threats, as some conspiracy theorists believe.

Pope - often dubbed the real-life Fox Mulder for his official UFO research - says Trump must know about the Pentagon’s secret UFO research project - AATIP (Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program), which was uncovered earlier this year.
He will be aware that the influential US Armed Services Committee has been investigating the money spent on the shadowy AATIP project, according to Pope.
Trump will also know that a Senate committee is currently investigating a 2004 incident in which US Navy pilots chased and filmed an unidentifiable white “tic-tac” shaped object which travelled at “balistic missile speed” off the coast of Mexico, Pope said.
Pope believes that this knowledge may have contributed towards the president's plans to create a Space Force, a new military branch dedicated to fighting wars in space.
The Space Force is due to be created by 2020, and has been championed by Trump, who tweeted in August: "Space Force all the way!"

Pope told Sun Online: “There are conspiracy theories suggesting President Trump's plans for a Space Force reflect a need to protect Earth against hostile aliens. There were similar conspiracy theories about President Reagan's Star Wars plan.
“While there may not be an alien connection, President Trump surely knows all of America's UFO secrets - some of which were released earlier this year as part of the AATIP project - and this may have contributed to his keenness to develop a military Space Force.
“And of course he knows that the two key battlespaces in any future conflict are going to be cyberspace and outer space, so it's vitally important for the US to dominate those battlespaces.

“In the 2016 Presidential campaign both Hillary Clinton and her campaign chairman John Podesta made some fairly strong 'pro-UFO' statements, but we don't know what President Trump knows or thinks about the issue.
“He'll know that the House Armed Services Committee is taking an interest in the Pentagon's AATIP project, which looked at the UFO phenomenon, and he'll know that the Senate Armed Services Committee is looking into the 2004 incident where US Navy pilots chased and filmed a UFO around the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz.
“But we don't know - for example - whether he supports the move to hold formal Congressional hearings on this.”
Pope says that despite the conspiracy theories it was unbelievable to think that Trump would not know about any UFO secrets the US may be keeping from the public.
And he even suggested that those conspiracy theorists currently waiting for full disclosure of the US government's extra-terrestrial knowledge
“Many people in the UFO community believe in a conspiracy so vast, shadowy and deep that even the president doesn't know,” he said.

Pope, who ran the UK’s now defunct UFO project from 1991 to 1994 said he hopes the president takes an interest in the issue - and would be happy to use his expertise to help him.
“I hope President Trump takes a personal interest in this and I'd be happy to get involved,” he said.
“The UK government axed its UFO project in 2009, so there's no current subject matter expert, but having done this job in the Nineties I'm happy to help in any presidential briefings and Congressional hearings, to explain what some of us in the MoD concluded about the threats and opportunities that arise from the UFO phenomenon, whatever its true nature.”
The Pentagon and US Department of Defence have been tasked with creating the new force to ensure what Trump called "American dominance" of space.
Trump said he wants to counter Russian and Chinese developments in space tech.
And he said he wants US agencies to "implement a state-of-the-art framework for space traffic management".
Announcing the decision on 18 June 2018, Trump said: "We are going to have the Air Force, but we are going to have the Space Force — separate but equal."
Vice President Mike Pence later said Space Force was needed to ensure America's dominance in space amid heightened competition and threats from China and Russia.
He added that while space was once peaceful and uncontested, it was now crowded and adversarial.

While cows, elephants, pythons and other large or strange animals would certainly warrant attention, fish falling from the sky have become more common and even an annual event in some locations. Yet the overnight or sudden appearance of thousands of flopping fish still gets people excited. That was the case this week in India, where yet another classic fish fall was reported.

Fortean phenomena are a lot more fun now that we have cell phones and social media. The WhatsApp video quickly made it to the Times of India, which interviewed the unnamed videographer from Amalapuram, a town in the southeastern state of Andhra Pradesh located in the delta of Konaseema, which places it between two tributaries of the Godavari River and the Bay of Bengal. “A meteorologist from Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said that strong winds of the storms like Cyclone Phethai sometimes carry displaced fish, frogs from the water bodies and drop on the land.”
The news was big enough to be picked up by the Weather Channel, which just happened to have reporters hanging on to lampposts as they covered the (hint alert) Cyclone Phethai,which made landfall in Andhra Pradesh on December 17, destroying over 10,000 farm and, even worse, damaging an estimated total of 12,094 mobile towers, which could explain why there was only one video circulating of the fish rain.
While no greater source than the Weather Channel said it, all good Forteans know that there’s still never been scientific observation of fish rising out from a body of water due to a cyclone, waterspout, hurricane or other phenomena – only their falling from the sky or mysteriously appearing on the ground. And it’s often the case that they were brought by flooding, not rain. Still, there are times when there seems to be no weather explanation for falling fish, frogs, snakes and other non-flying creatures. Thus, they continue to be reported.

A mysterious light was spotted in the sky on December 19, 2018 after 5:30 p.m., a time when most are making their way home from work.
ABC7 News interviewed several witnesses of the strange phenomenon in the sky:
Dathao Becker was visiting the Bay Area from San Diego and said "I just thought it was a kind of weird formation."
"I thought somebody was trying to spell something out in the sky, but I couldn't read what it was, so, I just moved on with the rest of my night" said Aparna Sarna.
Palo Alto resident, Ransom "I saw a moving cloud, then it formed into a question mark. I don't know, maybe it's a sign."
In the next video an official from the California Academy of Sciences explains why the strange light that glowed across California Wednesday night was likely a meteor but Elizabeth Matuzak who is a big believer in UFO phenomenon told ABC7 News; "I definitely think it's a UFO."
I found a really nice resolution moon photo of IO. Its one of the moons of Jupiter. IO has a lot of evidence of intelligent life on it which I determined from the massive structures strewn across its surface. I found a really cool long black spaceship with bat-like back fins. Kinda looks like something Batman might fly around, but this thing is huge, about 10-15km across or more. Thats a hell of a ship. Also I found a round thick disk structure that appears to be sinking into the surface of the moon at an angle. The disk is large and probably parked on the surface but was too heavy and began sinking over thousands of years. IO has is an inhabited moon of Jupiter. Scott C. Waring

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – Social media was filled with photos, videos and questions Wednesday night about the bright light and strangely illuminated smoke contrail seen in the skies that were visible across the Bay Area and California.
Dozens of people called and emailed the KPIX 5 newsroom asking what the phenomenon was, but the reason behind the light and smoke initially was a bit of a mystery.
“It was far too big to be a firework,” said Gus Graves of San Francisco. “I’m thinking it’s some sort of high-tech rocket that they’re working on, possibly? Or aliens. One of the two.”
“I was thinking it was a jet or something,” said Kira Bulger of Oakland. “Like a fighter pilot that was leaving a crazy streak in the sky.”
Bing Quock, assistant director of the Morrison Planetarium at the California Academy of Sciences, said that the Lick Observatory determined the mysterious light trail was a bright meteor.
“A very bright meteor that fell through the atmosphere, and it took place shortly after sunset so that the contrail that was left behind was still lit by the sun,” Quock said.
He said that the reason for the meteor trail’s question mark shape was high level wind in the atmosphere.
“And when upper winds in the atmosphere blew the contrail into nicely contorted shapes that looked like a strange glowing curlicue in the air that baffled a lot of people. But very likely just a bright meteor.”
A bright meteor was visible in the skies over the Bay Area shortly after sunset this evening, leaving a bright trail that was visible for many minutes in the western sky. Elinor Gates got a few photos showing how the trail was illuminated by the Sun after sunset and changed shape with the upper level winds in the atmosphere. Update: From Dr. Peter Jenniskens (SETI) "CAMS@Lick Observatory detected the flash of the meteor at 01:34:48 UTC (17:34:48 PST). At least three flares."
Shortly before 7 p.m., the National Weather Service posted on Twitter that, while not 100 percent confirmed, the object seen was probably a meteor.
A key ingredient for 'night shining clouds' comes from outer space. Scientists have detected bits of 'meteor smoke' imbedded in them.

Many took to social media to post pictures of the phenomenon. Reports of the sightings were made as far away as Sacramento, the Tahoe area and Southern California.
In some photos, a large illuminated circle was visible on the top of the smoke plume. There appeared to be an increasing likelihood that the object was a meteor burning up in the atmosphere.
There was some initial speculation that the lights could be related to a scheduled rocket launch at Vandenberg Air Force Base, but that launch was scrubbed early Wednesday evening.

Astronomers used the giant dish to spot a pair ofpulsarsthousands of light years away, heralding big things for what is now the world’s largest single dish radio telescope.
The stars, called PSR J1859-01 and PSR J1931-01, were detected by the telescope back in August, but it took a few extra months until the Parkes telescope in Australia could confirm them as the real deal.
Both objects are dense, rapidly spinning stars surrounded by strong magnetic fields. These fields channel electromagnetic radiation into a beam that describes a circle with every rotation, much like a cosmic lighthouse.
Seen from Earth, the stars seem to pulse with every sweep, giving them their name pulsar. Their positions and timing make for useful landmarks in space, not to mention handy cosmic clocks for testing general relativity.
The pair discovered by FAST – also dubbed FP1 and FP2 – don’t stand out in terms of size, speed, or distance.

“FP1 is a pulsar with a spin period of 1.83 second and an estimated distance of 16 thousand light-years, and FP2, is a pulsar with a spin period of 0.59 second and an estimated distance of 4,100 light years,” says deputy chief engineer of FAST, Li Di.
For a comparison, the fastest pulsar turns on its axis an insane 642 times per second.
In February the European Space Agency found a pulsar that was a thousand times brighter than ever thought possible, 50 million light years away.
But give it a chance – FAST exceeds the 305 metre wide Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico as the largest dish of its kind, so far more impressive discoveries are surely yet to come.
“The two new discovered pulsars symbolise the dawn of a new era of systematic discoveries by Chinese radio telescopes,” says Yan Jun, director of the National Astronomical Observatories of China.
The US$185 million facility was built to collect radio waves washing over the planet from the far reaches of deep space, allowing researchers to pick up faint traces of radiation from ancient clouds of hydrogen gas, distant black holes, pulsars, or … just maybe … alien wifi.
The dish sits inside a giant sinkhole in Guizhou Province, southwest China, where limestone has dissolved away to leave a massive depression.
The stats are impressive; 4,450 panels give the dish a collection area of 196,000 square metres (about 2,109,700 square feet), more than doubling Arecibo’s coverage.
A bigger dish can collect more radio waves, which means detecting fainter signals; just the thing we need to see deeper into space, and therefore further back in time.
This hollow amid the surrounding hills provides a natural shelter from more Earthly radio waves, giving FAST a quiet spot to stare at the heavens.
Closer to home, the giant dish could also be used to track spacecraft travelling to Mars as part of China’s burgeoning space program.
China has been making extraordinary leaps in space-based technology in recent years, such as facilitating the first quantum-encrypted satellite link-up just a few weeks ago.
Earlier this year the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation announced it would be conducting a record 30 launches into space this year, maintaining a trend in recent years that could see it meet its goal of landing technology on Mars by 2020.
FAST is just one more example of the nation’s rapid progress in space technology. While it still has a few more tests to conduct to fine tune its processes, it won’t be long before the facility is available to astronomers all over the globe.
Scientists have long said that Saturn’s glorious rings may be only temporary. New research confirms a “ring rain” onto Saturn that’ll leave the planet ringless in 300 million years, or sooner.
Saturn’s wide, iconic rings make this planet the telescopic showpiece of the solar system, but new research confirms the planet’s rings are only temporary. The new work was publishedDecember 17, 2018, in the peer-reviewedjournal Icarus. It describes a process whereby ice particles from the rings are being pulled by gravity onto Saturn, falling as a dusty ring rain.
James O’Donoghue of NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center is lead author of the new study. O’Donoghue said in a statement:
We estimate that this ‘ring rain’ drains an amount of water products that could fill an Olympic-sized swimming pool from Saturn’s rings in half an hour.
Saturn’s rings consists of countless separate particles with sizes ranging from pea-sized to that of giant boulders. These particles are composed mainly of water ice, with a trace of rocky material. There are two basic possibilities for how Saturn got its rings. It is conceivable that Saturn formed with the rings from the great cloud of gas and dust that also formed our sun and the other planets, 4 1/2 billion years ago. Or – as now seems more likely – the rings started out as moons for Saturn that collided, or a moon that came too close (within Saturn’s Roche limit) and was shattered by tidal forces.
The new research favors the idea that the rings are recent and temporary. Like some previous studies, it suggests a much younger age for the rings than 4 1/2 billion years. The ring rain alone indicates that the rings will last no more than 300 million years, these scientists said. Earlier research suggested an even shorter timeframe for the rings, giving them less than 100 million years to live. O’Donoghue said:
We are lucky to be around to see Saturn’s ring system, which appears to be in the middle of its lifetime. However, if rings are temporary, perhaps we just missed out on seeing giant ring systems of Jupiter, Uranus and Neptune, which have only thin ringlets today!

The first hints that a ring rain existed came from Voyager spacecraft observations in the early 1980s. Now, according to a statement from NASA:
Ring particles are caught in a balancing act between the pull of Saturn’s gravity, which wants to draw them back into the planet, and their orbital velocity, which wants to fling them outward into space. Tiny particles can get electrically charged by ultraviolet light from the sun or by plasma clouds emanating from micrometeoroid bombardment of the rings. When this happens, the particles can feel the pull of Saturn’s magnetic field, which curves inward toward the planet at Saturn’s rings. In some parts of the rings, once charged, the balance of forces on these tiny particles changes dramatically, and Saturn’s gravity pulls them in along the magnetic field lines into the upper atmosphere.
Once there, the icy ring particles vaporize and the water can react chemically with Saturn’s ionosphere. One outcome from these reactions is an increase in the lifespan of electrically charged particles called H3+ ions, which are made up of three protons and two electrons. When energized by sunlight, the H3+ ions glow in infrared light, which was observed by O’Donoghue’s team using special instruments attached to the Keck telescope in Mauna Kea, Hawaii.
Their observations revealed glowing bands in Saturn’s northern and southern hemispheres where the magnetic field lines that intersect the ring plane enter the planet. They analyzed the light to determine the amount of rain from the ring and its effects on Saturn’s ionosphere. They found that the amount of rain matches remarkably well with the astonishingly high values derived more than three decades earlier …
The Cassini spacecraft – which orbited Saturn from 2004 to 2017 – scanned across Saturn on April 25, 2016, capturing three sets of red, green and blue images to show the planet and its main rings. Cassini was approximately 1.9 million miles (3 million km) from Saturn at the time.

The team also found that one region in the south of Saturn was receiving most of ring rain.
And they discovered a glowing band at a higher latitude in Saturn’s southern hemisphere. This is where Saturn’s magnetic field intersects the orbit of the Saturn moon Enceladus, which was discovered by the Cassini spacecraft to be shooting geysers of water ice into space.
It’s been thought for some years that some of this material from Enceladus rains onto Saturn as well, and this new work confirms that moon rain exists as well.

The entire scene is backlit by the sun, providing striking illumination for the icy particles that make up both the rings and the jets emanating from the south pole of Enceladus, which is about 314 miles (505 km) across. Pandora, which is about 52 miles (84 km) wide, was on the opposite side of the rings from Cassini and Enceladus when the image was taken. This view looks toward the night side on Pandora as well, which is lit by dim golden light reflected from Saturn.

A series of pictures and videos that were shared in the social media show a large trail of smoke. Initially, it was not clear what caused it. Over time, more photos and videos of the incident were posted.
It was a meteor, according to the University of California's Lick Observatory near San Jose:
