Het is een lief, aanhankelijk hondje, dat zich op een week snel aan ons heeft aangepast. Ze is heel vinnig en nieuwsgierig, een heel ander hondje dan Noleke.

Luis Elizondo stond jarenlang aan het hoofd van het geheime UFO-programma van het Pentagon. Hij nam ontslag uit protest tegen de geheimhouding en het feit dat de overheid niks wilde doen met de vele UFO-meldingen die binnenkwamen.
Het programma was een vervolg op Project Blue Book, dat in de jaren vijftig en zestig plaatsvond.
Toen de Amerikaanse marine in de jaren tachtig haar radarapparatuur vernieuwde, werden er opeens veel meer UFO’s waargenomen.
Andere wereld
Elizondo merkte op dat Amerikaanse militairen objecten waarnamen die zich zo snel voortbewogen dat ze aan extreme G-krachten blootgesteld zouden moeten worden.
Ze moeten ‘van een andere wereld afkomstig zijn geweest’, aldus de voormalige directeur van het zogeheten Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program (AATIP) van het Pentagon.
“Ze beschikken niet over motoren of vleugels en lijken zich niets aan te trekken van de natuurlijke effecten van de aantrekkingskracht van de aarde,” zei hij.
Onder de aandacht
Elizondo en zijn collega’s probeerden deze kwestie tevergeefs onder de aandacht te brengen van de minister van Defensie, dus nu hebben zij besloten om in de openbaarheid te treden.
Zij stellen: hoewel er geen sprake is geweest van contact tussen de wezens die deze objecten besturen en het leger, wijst alles erop dat ze worden bestuurd door een intelligentie.

Many people have claimed to have found the legendary (and some believe fictional) island of Atlantis. Many areas, both above and below water, have been pinpointed as the exact location of Atlantis. So far, all are wrong. However, an island in a body of water in southern Siberia can lay claim to at least acting like Atlantis – rising up from the bottom of its sea to expose its artifacts and treasures dating back to the Bronze Age, only to be quickly submerged again. The island is Ala-Tei (or Ala-Tey) and its stone graves have been sealed and undisturbed since the time of Genghis Khan, but their time on the surface is too short for archeologists to properly remove their contents before it returns to the abyss. What is the story of this so-called Russian Atlantis?
“This site is a scientific sensation. We are incredibly lucky to have found these graves of rich Hun nomads that were not disturbed by robbers. We discovered 110 burials at the Ala-Tey burial site, which is usually 15 metres underwater.”
Dr. Marina Kilunovskaya from the St Petersburg Institute of Material History Culture leads the the Tuva Archeological Expedition into the Ala-Tey necropolis, which began digging there in 2015. Dr. Kilunovskaya describes the artifacts found in the graves and the unusual clothing and objects found with the remains in her September 2018 paper published in Asian Archeology (read it here and view the many pictures). The Siberian Times this week highlights the urgency in excavating as much as possible from the necropolis before it sinks again.
Genghis Khan
Why is it sinking? Ala-Tey is located in what is called the Sayan Sea, which is actually an artificial reservoir created upstream of the Sayano-Shushenskaya Dam. Located on the Yenisei River, it’s the largest power plant in Russia and the 9th-largest hydroelectric plant in the world. Construction began in 1963 and the plant became fully operational in December 1985, all under the Soviet Union. The island of Ala-Tey, even though it’s near the shore, is only accessible from mid-May to the end of June when spring flood waters sink it until the following year.
While the Russian Atlantis is above water, Kilunovskaya and her team quickly open the stone graves whose seals have preserved their contents and were so tight that they allowed foa natural mummification of the bodies. One held a young woman well-dressed in a silk skirt with a beaded belt and a precious jet gemstone buckle that may signify she was a princess during the time of the Huns. Kilunovskaya says this indicates the surprising high regard the Huns of central Asia and eastern Europe held their women in.
“Huns cherished women. It wasn’t a matriarchy, yet women – mothers and skilled artisans – were treated with great respect. For nomads a belt was an extremely important part of their clothing, indicating wealth and society rank. They didn’t use pockets, so all key elements of day-to-day life had to be hung on belts – which in case of Huns women were intricately decorated.”
Other artifacts in the graves – mirrors, silk, coins, pottery — came from China and date to the Han dynasty of 206 BCE to 220 CE. Bronze belt buckles, stone weapons and metal knives are also being found.
Sayano-Shushenskaya Dam
Because the power plant is fully operational, Ala-Tey disappears every June as the winter snow melts. Water release doesn’t begin until November and Ala-Tey doesn’t reappear until May. The waters are increasing annually due to climate change and the island could disappear forever. On the other hand, concerns about the safety (there have been accidents and shutdowns) and future of the dam are discussed and the possible destruction of the dam is considered, which would expose Ala-Tey for good. That possibility is a long way off.
One benefit of the annual submersion is that the waters help remove layers of dirt over the graves, making the rush job of the archeologists somewhat easier. However, it’s probably not enough to stave off the inevitable permanent disappearance of the Russian Atlantis.
The more time we spend driving robots around Mars, the more strange things we’re likely to see. Not the scientific type of strange, such as the massive amounts of methane just found on Mars, but the good, old fashioned “weird light in the distance” type of strange that’s been confounding UFO enthusiasts down here on Earth since the invention of the camera. Well, we’ve got cameras on other planets now, and with it comes unexplained mysterious lights in the distance.
NASA’s Curiosity rover snapped a photograph of the Martian landscape on June 16 that shows a bright white light off in the distance, against the brown sand of the martian dunes. The photograph was taken by one of Curiosity’s “navcams,” two independent black-and-white cameras which act as the rover’s eyes and can take 3D panoramic shots, which NASA scientists use to map the Martian terrain. This photograph was only taken by one of the navcams, as the other was swiveled towards the rover itself at the time, taking what the Independentcalls “some kind of space selfie.” With only half of the navcams snapping the photo, it’s impossible to tell if the strange white light is actually coming from the surface of mars, or if it’s some kind of lens flare or other boring thing. The light also appeared in only one photo. The photos taken immediately before and immediately after don’t have any trace of it, meaning that whatever it was, it appeared only briefly.

The light itself has a shape that does resemble a classic flying saucer UFO, which is surely proof of one thing: NASA’s entire public relations department must have one monster of a karmic debt they need to pay off. But obviously, and much to the chagrin of these poor scientists, NASA needed to address it, because not doing so would be proof of a cover-up. Justin Maki, who is in charge of the team that built Curiosity’s navcams, says:
“In the thousands of images we’ve received from Curiosity, we see ones with bright spots nearly every week. These can be caused by cosmic-ray hits or sunlight glinting from rock surfaces, as the most likely explanations.”
So, they’ve seen these things before. What else haven’t you told us, Justin? Probably a whole lot of other boring stuff that you never, in a million years, thought you’d have to address. This mysterious light is only mysterious because it’s on another planet and photographed with a grainy black-and-white camera. It is interesting, however, to think about the absolutely insane amount of mysterious things we’re going to start seeing as the numbers of off-world cameras increase. One thing is for sure, NASA is going to need to increase their PR budget.
A specialized team of conservation scientists has found what appears to be a hidden oasis deep in the rainforest of Honduras that’s teeming with dozens of rare and endangered creatures.
The remote settlement, known as the “Lost City of the Monkey God” or “White City” and located in the Mosquitia rainforest, is a stunning example of the biodiversity that was once common across the tropics and rainforests in the region. The rainforest is home to hundreds of species of bats, butterflies and reptiles, the Independentreports.
The “ecological SWAT team” from Conservation International’s Rapid Assessment Program (RAP) conducted their three-week expedition in 2017 after ancient ruins were discovered in the rainforest, which remains one of the least-explored areas of the region. Their full report on the expedition and its dizzying array of findings was only published this week.
The report details how the pristine ecosystem is filled with a number of rare and unique species, including those previously believed to be extinct.
This has included the False Tree Coral Snake, the pale-faced bat, and a tiger beetle which many had thought was already extinct. 22 species were also recorded whose presence in Honduras had previously been unknown, including the endangered Great Green Macaw and a livebearing fish that scientists have only now discovered.

In total, scientists documented 198 species of birds, 94 butterfly species, 40 of small mammals, 56 amphibian and reptile species, and 30 species of large mammals—including jaguars, ocelots and pumas—not to mention a huge variety of plants, fish, rodents and insects.
Trond Larsen, the director of RAP, expressed that his team was “shocked” by their major find. In a press release, Larsen noted:
The ‘White City’ is one of the few areas remaining in Central America where ecological and evolutionary processes remain intact.
The conservationist added that the diversity of the area’s wildlife makes it a very high priority for future conservation efforts. Larsen said:
One of the main reasons we found such high species richness and abundance of threatened and wide-ranging species (e.g., peccaries) is that the forests around the White City remain pristine, unlike much of the region.
This makes the area a high conservation priority for maintaining the broader landscape connectivity that is essential for the long-term persistence of biodiversity through Central America.
The White City has long been sought after by explorers searching for what is believed to be the home to an ancient civilization that inhabited the area during the pre-Columbian era.
The area, which is largely undeveloped, has faced threats from illegal economic activities such as deforestation due to cattle ranching, in spite of efforts by Honduras’ president in 2005 to extend official protection to the “lost city.”
Larsen said:
And these are areas with no road networks, no logistics or infrastructure to let people get in or let guards in, so it’s very hard to stop what’s happening.
In many cases, this illegal activity is being driven tangentially by drug trafficking, so it’s driven by powerful people with money. That’s the primary threat to the integrity of the forest of the area.
Another member of the RAP SWAT team, John Polisar, noted the importance of ensuring strong protection that would allow the treasure-trove of rare creatures to thrive:
We have been doing field work in the indigenous territories of La Moskitia for 14 years, and this site stood out as being simply gorgeous.
Because of its presently intact forests and fauna the area is of exceptionally high conservation value. It merits energetic and vigilant protection so its beauty and wildlife persist into the future.
We have never seen global weather patterns go as crazy as they have so far in 2019. Record high temperatures are being shattered all over the planet, but meanwhile some parts of the U.S. were just buried by massive amounts of snow. The sixth largest city in India is literally running out of water due to extremely dry conditions, but in middle America it just won’t stop raining. In fact, the Midwest is getting hammered by more severe storms as I write this article. Meanwhile, Australia is being forced to import enormous amounts of wheat due to the extraordinary drought that nation is currently experiencing. Everywhere you look around the globe we see bizarre weather extremes. Worldwide weather patterns are shifting dramatically, and many believe that what we have witnessed so far is just the beginning.

Just look at what is happening in Colorado. Some parts of the state got up to 20 inches of snow on Saturday, and as a result Colorado’s snowpack is currently more than 4,000 percent above normal…
Due to the new snow Friday into the weekend, the Natural Resources Conservation Service reported that the state’s snowpack ballooned to 4,121 percent above normal as of Monday. This number is so high because ordinarily very little snow is left by late June, and cold temperatures late into the spring helped preserve what fell earlier.
After the weekend blanket of white, the scenes in the high country west of Denver resembled midwinter. Enough snow fell to close roads, while many ski areas reported accumulation, including Breckenridge, Vail, Beaver Creek, Arapahoe Basin and Steamboat Springs.
On the other side of the world, the problem is that there isn’t any meaningful precipitation at all.
More than 4.6 million people live in the city of Chennai, India. Thanks to a drought that never seems to end, the main reservoirs that normally supply that city with water are rapidly going dry…
The floor of the Chembarambakkam reservoir is cracked open, dry and sun-baked. About 25 kilometers (15.5 miles) away, in Chennai, India’s sixth largest city, millions of people are running out of water.
Chembarambakkam and the three other reservoirs that have traditionally supplied Chennai are nearly all dry, leaving the city suffering from an acute water shortage, said Jayaram Venkatesan, an activist in the city.
So what do you do when you have millions of people that need water but you don’t have any to give them?
Well, the temporary solution that has been implemented for now is to truck water in. That means that “hundreds of thousands of residents” are forced to stand in line for hours in the hot sun as they wait for the water trucks to arrive. The following comes from CNN…

Over in Europe, it looks like this could be the hottest week ever for the month of June.
In the next few days, high temperatures are expected to exceed 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit) in Spain, and that prompted one meteorologist to warn that “hell is coming”…
Meteorologists said temperatures would reach or even exceed 40C from Spain to Switzerland as hot air was sucked up from the Sahara by the combination of a storm stalling over the Atlantic and high pressure over central Europe.
High humidity meant it would feel like 47C, experts warned. “El infierno [hell] is coming,” tweeted the TV meteorologistSilvia Laplana in Spain, where the AEMET weather service forecast temperatures of 42C by Thursday in the Ebro, Tagus, Guadiana and Guadalquivir valleys and warned of an “extreme risk” of forest fires.
In 2003, a terrible heatwave killed tens of thousands of people all across Europe, and many expect this heatwave to be even worse.
And things will be extraordinarily hot in France as well. In fact, some parts of France are expected to hit 109 degress Fahrenheit by the end of this week…
High temperatures are expected to skyrocket above above 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit) on Wednesday for a huge portion of France, including Paris. The forecast for Carpentras, a town of 28,000 about 50 miles north of Marseilles, is even worse. There, temperatures are expected to reach 43 degrees Celsius (109 degrees Fahrenheit) on Friday and Saturday. That would easily cap the monthly high temperature record for France of 41.5 degrees Celsius (107 degrees Fahrenheit) set in June 2003, according to Reuters.
Temperatures are likely to climb above 40 degrees Fahrenheit in parts of Spain and approach that in Germany, Switzerland, and Belgium. Overnight temperatures will stay balmy, which poses particularly acute health risks to children and the elderly.
Needless to say, none of this is normal.
Here in the United States, we have been witnessing month after month of extremely unusual weather in the middle of the country. The rain has been endless and the flooding has been unprecedented, and those living in the heartland keep thinking that all of this weird weather has got to end eventually at some point.
More than 50 million people are bracing for severe weather from the Plains to the Southeast as scattered thunderstorms prompt flash flood alerts, possible tornadoes and hail.
A large weather system is expected to bring damaging wind gusts and large hail for parts of the South and into the Appalachians, Ohio Valley and Great Lakes.
Heavy rain and flash flooding inundated parts of southwest Missouri during the weekend, prompting water rescues and evacuations.
Will global weather patterns ever return to normal, or is this “the new normal”?
Let us certainly hope for a return to normalcy, because if weather patterns continue to go absolutely haywire that is going to have enormous implications for all of us.

Greenewald utilized the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) to gain access to more than two million pages of documents. This archive includes information relating to UFOs, the JFK Assassination, chemical, biological, mind control and nuclear weapons, and top secret aircraft. He took the millions of pages, and over the course of more than two decades, has built an archive known around the world, as The Black Vault.
Declassified records prove that the UFO topic is one of the most highly classified and most elusive subjects the U.S. Government has ever dealt with. Each chapter explores various agencies and their documents, and Greenewald breaks down the meaning of why some of the most important documents are relevant to proving a massive cover-up.
Along with declassified documents, Greenewald outlines the struggle it took him to get them. No other topic has proven so difficult, in more than 8,000 FOIA requests that he has filed.
He explores why that might be and meets skeptics and debunkers head on, outlining why some of their more prominent rebuttals for it all cannot be true.

Date of sighting: June 25, 2019 Location of sighting: International Space Station I was watching the live NASA cam when the camera suddenly switched cameras and focused on this UFO in the distance. I believe they changed cameras so that they could better see the UFO. The UFO is a classic disk shape. It has a hump at its upper and lower center. It is rather thick compared to the classic disk, but still cool. The UFO has an aura around it probably caused by the propulsion system of the craft. I made some really good close ups of the UFO in the video below. It is 100% proof that aliens are taking steps toward disclosure. Nothing and no-one can stop them. Scott Waring-Taiwan
DIERENWetenschappers zijn er voor de allereerste keer in geslaagd om beelden te maken van een levende reuzeninktvis in Amerikaanse wateren. Ze werden opgenomen in de Golf van Mexico. Op het filmpje is te zien hoe het dier opduikt uit de diepe duisternis, 759 meter onder het wateroppervlak.
De wetenschappers waren bezig met een onderzoek naar het effect van de afwezigheid van licht op zeedieren in de pikdonkere ‘midnight zone’, 1.000 meter onder het wateroppervlak. De expeditie werd gesponsord door de National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, die het filmpje van de reuzeninktvis ook deelde op Facebook.
De wetenschappers gebruikten een speciale camera met rood licht, dat de diepzeedieren niet kunnen waarnemen. Het laat toe om nieuwe diersoorten te ontdekken en moeilijk waar te nemen dieren toch vast te leggen op beeld. Op het toestel zit een kunstmatige kwal, die het lichtgevende verdedigingsmechanisme van het ongewervelde dier nabootst. In de hoop roofdieren te lokken en te filmen. Dat gebeurde ook met de reuzeninktvis.
Op de beelden is te zien hoe plots enkele tentakels uit de diepte opduiken. En een reuzeninktvis de camera aanvalt. Een ogenblik later verdwijnt het dier weer even plots als het verscheen. Volgens de wetenschappers was het dier zeker 3 tot 3,7 meter lang.
Beelden maken van een inktvis in zijn natuurlijke habitat is extreem moeilijk. Japanse onderzoekers slaagden er pas in 2004 voor het eerst in om er foto’s van te nemen en het duurde nog tot 2012 eer Edith Widder en een team wetenschappers – die ook de nieuwe beelden verzamelden – een filmpje konden maken van een levend exemplaar. Ook dat gebeurde in Japan.
Moby Dick
De reuzeninktvis – die onder meer beschreven wordt in boeken als Moby Dick en 20.000 mijlen onder zee van Jules Verne – heeft mede daardoor een legendarische status. “Hij heeft acht kronkelende armen en twee snijdende tentakels”, aldus Widder. “Hij heeft het grootste oog van alle dieren en een bek die vlees aan flarden kan snijden. Om nog maar te zwijgen van zijn drie harten en blauw bloed. Het is een ongelofelijk levend wezen, waarover we nog bijna niets weten.”
WETENSCHAPEen experimenteel ruimtevaartuig is vandaag begonnen aan zijn missie. Een zonnezeil, LightSail 2 genaamd, werd gelanceerd vanaf de Amerikaanse ruimtebasis Cape Canaveral. Hij moet niet door brandstof, maar door deeltjes van de zon worden aangedreven.
Bij de lancering was het zeil nog ingeklapt en zo groot als een brood. Een raket bracht hem naar 720 kilometer hoogte. Over ruim een week, als alle systemen goed werken, moet het zeil opengaan. Het wordt dan 5,6 bij 5,6 meter groot, te vergelijken met een boksring. Hij zal een jaar lang op een hoogte van 720 kilometer rond de aarde draaien om de techniek te testen. Vanaf de grond is hij soms te zien, maar hij komt niet noordelijker dan Portugal, Spanje, Italië en Corsica.
De zon slingert constant lichtdeeltjes het heelal in. Fotonen, heten die. Die botsen tegen het zeil van de LightSail 2. Dat is een minieme kracht, maar hij is onophoudelijk en er is weinig wrijving, dus het zou genoeg moeten zijn om vooruit te komen. Om te sturen, kan hij overstag gaan. Als een sonde nauwelijks brandstof mee hoeft te nemen, wordt een missie spotgoedkoop. Op den duur kan een zeil misschien naar andere sterren varen.
WETENSCHAP & PLANEETDe Marsrover Curiosity heeft een grote hoeveelheid methaan gemeten in de atmosfeer van Mars. “Opwindend hoge waarden”, zo klinkt het bij wetenschappers die verduidelijken dat “de methaanpiek” zou kunnen wijzen op de aanwezigheid van leven op Mars. De Amerikaanse ruimtevaartorganisatie NASA gaat nu de data verder analyseren voor bevestiging.
De Marsrover Curiosity, die al sinds 2012 stalen uit de atmosfeer neemt, heeft nog nooit zo’n hoge concentratie methaan gemeten. De resultaten zijn verbazingwekkend: zo’n 21 ppb (parts per billion) of 21 deeltjes per miljard. Dat is drie keer zoveel als de waarden die in 2013 werden aangetroffen.
Onderzoekers proberen nu te achterhalen wat de oorsprong van het gevonden gas is. Het kan een geologische oorsprong hebben, waarbij methaan ontstaat door interacties tussen gesteenten en water. Maar het zou ook kunnen gaan om biologische processen, zoals op aarde. Methaan wordt hier onder meer geproduceerd bij afbraak van organische stoffen door bacteriën. In de omgeving van rundveehouderijen is een verhoogde concentratie van methaan aanwezig, doordat het gas gevormd wordt door de bacteriën in de magen van runderen bij het verteren van voedsel.
Data analyseren
Vooral een biologische oorsprong is interessant voor de Marswetenschappers. Het zou immers kunnen wijzen op de aanwezigheid van leven op de Rode Planeet, wellicht in de vorm van micro-organismen.
Methaan gaat maar enkele honderden jaren mee, omdat het door het zonlicht en bepaalde chemische reacties wordt afgebroken. Als er methaan wordt gevonden, moet dat dus relatief “jong” zijn, als het tenminste niet van geologische oorsprong is. Maar hoe oud deze vondst precies is, is nog niet bekend. “We weten momenteel niet of het oud is of jong”, zegt hoofdonderzoeker Paul Mahaffy van de NASA die “de data verder zal analyseren voor bevestiging”.

In de buurt van Area 51 zou een ondergrondse installatie worden gebouwd. Dat zegt althans UFO-jager Scott C. Waring, meldt het Russische persbureau Sputnik.
Waring deed de ontdekking toen hij satellietfoto’s aan het bestuderen was. De nieuwe installatie bevindt zich naar verluidt op zo’n 88 kilometer ten noordoosten van Area 51.
Hij ontdekte ook twee velden nabij de basis en speculeerde dat daar mogelijk gewassen geteeld worden voor ‘genetisch onderzoek’.
Gevaar
“Ze passen het DNA van de planten om onbekende redenen aan,” zei hij. “Dit maakt me bezorgd.”
“Als ze genetisch onderzoek doen, waarom hebben ze dan een ondergrondse basis nodig voor hun onderzoek?” vroeg hij.
Tenzij het natuurlijk gaat om onderzoek dat een gevaar zou kunnen vormen voor de volksgezondheid, aldus Waring.

Why are so many UFOs being reported near nuclear facilities—and why isn’t there more urgency on the part of the government to assess their potential national-security threat?
Those are questions being asked by a team of high-ranking former U.S. defense and intelligence officials, aerospace-industry veterans, academics and others associated with To the Stars Academy of Arts & Science. The team has been investigating a wide range of these sightings—and advocating more serious government attention.
Their investigations are the subject of HISTORY’s limited series “Unidentified.”
Throughout history, unexplained aerial phenomena (UAPs) have shocked, frightened and fascinated sky watchers. And in the last century, more than a few have been reported in military contexts. In late World War II, U.S. airmen called them “foo fighters”: strange orange flying lights by the French-German border. During the Korean War, some soldiers claimed a blue-green light emitting “pulsing rays” made their whole battalion sick with what, to some, resembled radiation poisoning.
Less known: In the last 75 years, high-ranking U.S. military and intelligence personnel have also reported UAPs near sites associated with nuclear power, weaponry and technology—from the early atomic-bomb development and test sites to active nuclear naval fleets.
The UFO-nuclear connection began at the dawn of the atomic age.
Nuclear-adjacent sightings go back decades, says Robert Hastings, a UFO researcher and author of the book UFOs and Nukes: Extraordinary Encounters at Nuclear Weapons Sites. Hastings says he’s interviewed more than 160 veterans who have witnessed strange things in the skies around nuclear sites.
“You have objects being tracked on radar performing at speeds that no object on earth can perform,” Hastings says. “You have eyewitness [military] personnel. You have jet pilots.” Witnesses to these incidents are often highly trained personnel with top security clearances. In recent years, their reports are being corroborated by sophisticated technology.
In late 1948, “green fireballs” were reported in the skies near atomic laboratories in Los Alamos and Sandia, New Mexico, where the atomic bomb was first developed and tested. A declassified FBI document from 1950 mentions “flying saucers” measuring almost 50 feet in diameter near the Los Alamos labs. And Knapp has interviewed more than a dozen workers from the Nevada desert atomic test site, where scores of A-bombs were detonated in the post-WWII years. He says they told him UFO activity was so commonplace there, employees were assigned to monitor the activity.
In the 1960s and ’70s, repeated UFO sightings emerged at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Montana, a storage site for nuclear-tipped intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs). At one such alleged sighting in 1967, former Air Force Capt. Robert Salas says several of those missiles became inoperative at the same time base security reported seeing a glowing red object, about 30 feet in diameter, hovering over the facility. Salas, who commanded ICBMs as a launch officer and later worked in the aerospace industry and at the Federal Aviation Administration, told CNN the “missiles began going into what's called a ‘no-go condition,’ or unlaunchable.”
Observers can only speculate about the origin of these unexplained phenomena. But the repeated proximity to sensitive defense sites connected to our nation’s most powerful weapons has raised the question of whether they might originate from adversaries—known or unknown.
In late December 1980, air-traffic controllers encountered something alarming near Royal Air Force Bentwaters in England. Used by the U.S. Air Force as a European foothold during the Cold War, Bentwaters housed a secret stash of nuclear weapons in 25 fortified underground bunkers.
“We looked up on the radar scope and saw something…not like anything I’d seen before,” Ivan Barker, a U.S. Air Force air-traffic controller working that night, told HISTORY.com.
Barker, a master sergeant who was second in charge at the facility, says he was an 18-year veteran at that point and knew “about every aircraft in the U.S., NATO and the Soviet bloc.” This object, he says, shocked him and his two colleagues that night with its remarkable speed and maneuverability. On radar, it covered 120 miles in a matter of seconds, he said: “It had to be moving Mach 5, 6, 7 or 8—faster than anything other than possibly a missile.”
As he looked up from the radar to view it directly, the craft moved into close range, slowed and then stopped over the base’s water tower: “Like a helicopter hovering, except with a helicopter you get movement up and down. This was stationary. It was between about 1,500 and 2,000 feet high. The thing was…at least a city block…in diameter.”
Barker says it was shaped like a giant basketball, with portholes around the center, from which lights were emanating outward. “I was shocked… There was nothing aerodynamic about it. Basketballs don’t fly.”

It stopped over the water tower for only a few seconds, he said, before reversing course and speeding back the way it came in: “It was like—swish!—it’s gone.”
Barker didn’t report the sighting to his superiors. “You don’t understand what the Air Force did to people who reported UFOs,” he says.
Barker’s story dovetails with that of Col. Charles Halt, Bentwaters’ deputy commander at the time. Halt led a patrol that night to investigate strange colorful lights seen descending into nearby Rendlesham Forest. Halt described to Elizondo what he saw from inside the forest: a red light moving horizontally though the trees, "obviously under some kind of intelligent control.” A laser-like beam, he said, “landed 10-15 feet away from us. I was literally in shock.”
Then the beam’s source quickly left, flying north toward the base, says Halt, who audiotaped the incident at the time. “We could hear chatter on the radios that the beams went down into the weapons storage area.”
Later, his commander played the audio for a general, who dismissed the need for further investigation. They were loath to get involved, says Halt.
In recent years, sightings of unidentified aerial phenomena have emerged from America’s nuclear navy.
F-18 fighter pilots from the nuclear-powered USS Theodore Roosevelt carrier strike group saw UAPs almost daily for several months between the summer of 2014 and the spring of 2015 while executing training maneuvers along the Eastern seaboard between Virginia and Florida, witnesses told Elizondo.
“Wherever we were, they were there,” says Ryan Graves, an active-duty F-18 fighter pilot from the USS Roosevelt, who holds a degree in aerospace engineering.
The objects appeared in three shapes, Graves says—some were discs, others looked like a cube inside a sphere, while smaller round objects flew together in formation. All lacked visible engines or exhaust systems. Some tilted, mid-flight, like spinning tops, as seen on an infrared video released by the U.S. Department of Defense in 2017. Graves and another F-18 pilot, Danny Accoin, confirm that video, along with one other released by the government, had been shot by their fellow Roosevelt pilots while in the air.
One UAP, Grave says, almost caused a terrifying collision by zipping dangerously between two planes. An aviation flight-safety report was filed, he says, but never investigated.
Graves says the unidentified objects reappeared once the Roosevelt had deployed to its mission in the Persian Gulf.
“It’s hard to find a prosaic explanation for a carrier battle group being shadowed by unidentified aircraft all the way across the Atlantic, to an area of operations overseas in the Middle East,” says Chris Mellon, former U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Intelligence during the Clinton and George W. Bush administrations, who now serves as an integral part of the To The Stars team. “It makes an extremely compelling case for the existence of technologies we didn’t think were possible.”
Leon Golub, a senior astrophysicist at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, told The New York Times there may indeed be several “low-probability” prosaic explanations for the Roosevelt sightings. They include “bugs in the [radar’s] code for the imaging and display systems, atmospheric effects and reflections [and] neurological overload from multiple inputs during high-speed flight.”
Still, the Roosevelt reports echo those made by Navy pilots undergoing training exercises on the other side of the country. In November 2004 pilots and radar operators from the USS Nimitz carrier fleet saw a 40-foot long tic-tac shaped object flying just above the ocean while flying 100 miles off the coast of California near San Diego. When F-18 fighter jets were scrambled to approach the object, it accelerated, easily outrunning the supersonic Navy craft.
Whereas earlier reports were career-killers for military personnel, there is an increasing openness in the Pentagon and on Capitol Hill to taking these sightings seriously as potential threats. In April 2019, the U.S. Navy announced that it was updating its guidelines for how pilots and personnel should report unexplained aerial phenomena—making it easier for military members to report sightings to superiors without facing professional stigma and backlash. And Congress, beginning with former Senate majority leader Harry Reid, has taken more interest in being briefed.
George Knapp says that’s more activity than he has seen in three decades. He, and many others, think it’s overdue.
“At the facilities where we were first designing and building nuclear weapons…at the places where we were processing the fuel…at the facilities where we were testing the weapons…at the bases where we deployed those weapons, on the ships…the nuclear submarines… All those places, all the people working there have seen these things,” Knapp says.
“Are they all crazy?” he continued. “Because if they are, they shouldn't have their hands on nuclear weapons.”

Vliegende schotels
Eind 1948 werden ‘groene vuurballen’ gemeld bij installaties in Los Alamos en Sandia, waar de atoombom werd ontwikkeld en getest.
Een vrijgegeven FBI-document uit 1950 verhaalt over ‘vliegende schotels’ met een doorsnee van tientallen meters nabij de laboratoria van Los Alamos.
Knapp interviewde medewerkers die zeiden dat er zoveel UFO’s werden waargenomen op plekken waar atoombommen werden getest, dat er speciale teams waren die ze in de gaten moesten houden.
Buiten werking
In de jaren zestig en zeventig werden er meerdere UFO’s gezien boven Malmstrom Air Force Base in Montana, waar kernraketten lagen opgeslagen.
In 1967 werden meerdere van deze raketten buiten werking gesteld terwijl er een rood object boven de basis verscheen.
Het was op dat moment onmogelijk om de raketten te lanceren.

Well, that’s what NASA scientists are saying (kind of) after the Mars Curiosity rover was checking on the planet’s breathing and found it’s belching a huge, record-breaking amount of methane into the atmosphere – the best indication so far that something is or was alive on the Red Planet.
“With our current measurements, we have no way of telling if the methane source is biology or geology, or even ancient or modern.”
That hissing sound is the methane leaking out of the celebration balloons for the “What is the Life on Mars?” reveal party. Paul Mahaffy of NASA’s Goddard Spaceflight Center in Maryland is the Principal Investigator on the rover’s Sample Analysis at Mars (SAM) tunable laser spectrometer which has been sniffing for methane – and finding it – since it was dropped on Mars. Mahaffy, in NASA’s latest statement, is trying not to get too excited about the latest methane belch found — about 21 parts per billion units by volume (ppbv) – even though it’s more than 30 times above normal (about 0.24 ppbv to 0.65 ppbv) and three times the highest level ever detected (around 6 or 7 ppbv in 2013 and 2014).
“Combining observations from the surface and from orbit could help scientists locate sources of the gas on the planet and understand how long it lasts in the Martian atmosphere. That might explain why the Trace Gas Orbiter’s and Curiosity’s methane observations have been so different.”
In April 2019, the ESA’s Mars Express orbiter finally confirmed that June 2013 surge detected on the ground by Curiosity, but it’s been a mystery to scientists why it doesn’t detect them all. One possibility is that methane belched out of the planet is broken down before it reaches an altitude where it can be detected by the ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter (TGO). Wouldn’t it be nice if that happened to all belches and other noxious emissions from Earth life forms? (You know who you are!)
NASA is extending Curiosity’s deployment on Teal Ridge in the Gale Crater on the chance that one big methane belch might be a sign of more to come, and those belches are a good sign of a biological cause rather than geological, which is the cause of atmospheric or surface methane.

This was taken several years ago, but I have never seen it before and I think that these donut objects are actually alive. Just like plankton can live in space, so can these little critters. Intelligent or not, they are there, surviving in a place that we thought was impossible to thrive in. These donut shaped objects are the same objects seen long ago during the tether incident where they broke a long tether that was miles long by flying through it. They are powerful without a doubt, but are they intelligent? Only time will tell. They seem curious about the Soyus, but most forest animals display curiosity. It moves really fast, because just a few minutes later, the photo of the same area shows it no longer there. Nothing that big could move that fast unless it has the ability to travel at light speed. One of those senators was Mark Warner (D-Va.), the vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, whose spokesperson said: 'If naval pilots are running into unexplained interference in the air, that's a safety concern Senator Warner believes we need to get to the bottom of,' Politico reported.
The briefing was delivered by the Navy and included staff from the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence, it was also reported.
It is understood that such briefings have been on the rise since it was revealed that the Pentagon's secretive Aerospace Threat Identification Program continues to investigate reported sightings of unknown aircraft.
One of the senators briefed was Mark Warner (D-Va.), the vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, whose spokesperson said: 'If naval pilots are running into unexplained interference in the air, that's a safety concern Senator Warner believes we need to get to the bottom of'
Members of Congress and their staffers of the Armed Service and Defense Appropriations committees were also briefed, with more meetings expected to follow.
Ed Booth, an aviation expert for News4Jax, studied the newly released footage and said Navy pilots are highly trained to report these sightings.
'What this object is that shows up in this video remains to be seen,' Booth said. 'It's very interesting. It's certainly moving in ways atmospheric aircraft are not capable of moving.'
He added that seeing more pictures, or even wreckage, would shed more light on what the pilots saw.

President Trump, while discussing the UFO reports with ABC News' George Stephanopoulos on June 16 said he had been briefed on the recent rise in U.S. Navy pilots reporting unidentified aircraft.
Stephanopoulos pressed the president, asking what Trump made of it.
'I think it's probably - I want them to think whatever they think. They do say, and I've seen, and I've read, and I've heard. And I did have one very brief meeting on it. But people are saying they're seeing UFOs. Do I believe it? Not particularly,' he said.
Asked if he thought he would know if extraterrestrial life had been confirmed, president replied, 'Well, I think my great pilots would know. Our great pilots would know.'

The video's release comes as Navy pilots are reporting more and more sightings of anomalous aircraft that appear to defy the laws of physics, prompting the service to roll out new guidelines last month to log sightings - though none of the information will be made public.
A Navy spokesman told The Washington Post that the reporting on UFOs would fall under 'privileged and classified information' so that military aviation safety organizations can 'preserve the free and honest prioritization and discussion of safety among aircrew.'

The new guidelines are a response to unknown, advanced aircraft flying into or near Navy strike groups or other sensitive military facilities and formations, the Navy said.
The Navy made it easier for sailors to report UFO sightings amid fears that the mysterious unidentified flying objects could actually be 'extremely advanced Russian aircraft.'
'There have been a number of reports of unauthorized and/or unidentified aircraft entering various military-controlled ranges and designated air space in recent years,' a spokesperson for the Navy told Politico.
The statement continued: 'For safety and security concerns, the Navy and the US Air Force takes these reports very seriously and investigates each and every report'.
In recent years, there has been a need for a more formalized process of recording UFO sightings which greatly increased after World War II.

But for now, the data 'remains strictly within classified channels,' said Luis Elizondo, an intelligence officer who ran the Pentagon's Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program, which officially ended in 2012, according to The Post.
The Navy has pledged to update and reform their current policies for how reports of 'suspected incursions' are made to the correct authorities.
However, the Navy's new policy does not mean they believe their sailors have actually encountered alien spacecraft, but rather they believe the reported sightings shouldn't be instantly dismissed and are worthy of further investigation.
In extraordinarily salty puddles of water resembling ones you might find on Mars, bacteria can survive getting completely dried out, suggesting that the Red Planet may be more habitable than previously thought, according to a new study.
Since there is life virtually wherever there is water on Earth, research into whether Mars was once capable of hosting life — and whether it still might host it — typically focuses on the past or current presence of liquid water on or below its surface. However, the cold, thin atmosphere that Mars has nowadays means liquid water likely cannot exist on its surface for any length of time.
Still, just before dawn, evaporating frost on the Martian surface can drive humidity up to 100 percent, said the study's senior author Mark Schneegurt, an astrobiologist at Wichita State University in Kansas. At its peak, the humidity on Mars can resemble the drier parts of the Atacama Desert in Chile, the driest place on Earth aside from its poles, which nevertheless is home to life.
In addition, a variety of salts often found on the surface of Mars could absorb this moisture. Because the briny fluids that result have a lower freezing point than water, they could withstand the frigid temperatures that prevail on the Red Planet's surface — and potentially harbor life.
However, the humidity on the Martian surface plummets during the daytime as temperatures rise. As such, any microbes on Mars would likely have to deal with constantly getting dried out.
To see if life on Mars could survive these cycles of desiccation, scientists experimented with two species of bacteria taken from two highly salty areas — Hot Lake in Washington and the Great Salt Plains in Oklahoma. They grew them in the lab in a solution that was half water and half magnesium sulfate, commonly known as Epsom salt, a kind of salt common on the Martian surface.
The researchers next dried small drops of this bacterial-laden solution using water-absorbing chemicals under a vacuum, to mimic how brines on the Martian surface might evaporate. Finally, they locked the dried drops in a jar with either regular water or saltwater and let the jar fill with humidity.
Within a day, the scientists found the dried drops absorbed enough moisture from the air to make a liquid brine, at which point the bacteria revived and began to grow. Typically more than half the cells survived.
"We have the first data showing the growth of bacteria after drying and then rehydration through humidity alone, in the presence of salts that absorb moisture from the air," Schneegurt told Space.com.
These findings may expand what scientists consider habitable when it comes to dry or cold worlds, Schneegurt said. It also could mean there is a greater risk than previously thought that Earth microbes can contaminate other worlds.
In the future, the researchers may examine how well these bacteria perform at the colder temperatures typical of Mars, as well as with other kinds of salts found on the Martian surface, Schneegurt said.
The scientists detailed their findings on June 21 at the annual meeting of the American Society for Microbiology in San Francisco.

In biologist Eleanor Lutz's new map of the solar system, which shows the precise orbital paths of more than 18,000 near celestial objects, you'll be lucky if you can even find Mars.
Lutz is a doctoral candidate at the University of Washington who spends her evenings turning public data sets into hyperdetailed works of art. In her new project, called the Atlas of Space, she's borrowed more than a decade of data compiled by the likes of NASA, the U.S. Geological Survey and other science organizations to create some of the most accurate maps of the solar system that will fit on your bedroom wall.
The map shown here, which Lutz posted to her website on June 10, was created from orbital data taken from a dozen different public databases. Going above and beyond most textbook space maps, this guide to the cosmos shows the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter and the Kuiper Belt beyond Neptune in gorgeous, chaotic detail.
"This map shows each asteroid at its exact position on New Years' Eve 1999," Lutz wrote on her site. "This includes everything we know of that's over 6.2 miles (10 kilometers) in diameter — about 10,000 asteroids — as well as 8,000 randomized objects of unknown size."
