Je hoort wetenschappers vaak zeggen dat aliens onze planeet niet kunnen bereiken vanwege de enorme afstanden die ze dan zouden moeten overbruggen.
Een astronoom van de Columbia University in New York lijkt nu een oplossing voor dit probleem te hebben bedacht.
David Kipping zegt dat je ruimteschepen ter grootte van een planeet kunt aandrijven met behulp van een zogeheten ‘halo drive’ die werkt op basis van de extreme zwaartekrachtsgolven in zwarte gaten.
Katapulteren
Het is dan niet langer mogelijk dat de brandstof opraakt, aldus Kipping.
De astronoom liet zich inspireren door het werk van natuurkundige Freeman Dyson.
Dyson stelde voor om ruimteschepen als het ware te katapulteren bij enorme planeten of zwarte gaten, door gebruik te maken van de zwaartekrachtsgolven.
Versnellen
Toen NASA de Voyager en Galileo naar Jupiter stuurde, bleken de onbemande sondes te versnellen dankzij de enorme omvang van de planeet en de snelheid waarmee hij om de zon draait: 13,1 kilometer per seconde.
Je hoeft volgens Kipping niet eens met je ruimteschip in de buurt van een zwart gat of enorme planeet te vliegen.
Laser
Je stuurt fotonen of lichtdeeltjes met behulp van een laser naar bijvoorbeeld een zwart gat en gebruikt ze bij terugkeer, als ze geladen zijn, om het schip aan te drijven.
Met een lichtzeil kun je op deze manier zelfs de grootste ruimteschepen voortbewegen zonder dat je brandstof nodig hebt, stelt Kipping.
Deze technologie zou de schepen in staat stellen snelheden te bereiken die dicht in de buurt van de lichtsnelheid komen.

Op YouTube zijn beelden verschenen van een mysterieuze lichtbol in de buurt van de Amos 17-satelliet van SpaceX, die onlangs is gelanceerd. Dat schrijft het Russische persbureau Sputnik.
Het object vliegt snel door het beeld, buigt af naar links en verdwijnt vervolgens.
Blake en Brett Cousins van het YouTube-kanaal thirdphaseofmoon zeggen op basis van de bewegingen die het object maakt dat het geen ruimtepuin kan zijn.
Ongewone manoeuvre
“Hoe kan het naar links afbuigen in de ruimte tenzij het beschikt over een aandrijfsysteem?” vroeg Blake, toevoegende dat het object de satelliet volgens velen ‘in de gaten houdt’.
Als het ruimtepuin was geweest, dan zou het in een rechte lijn bewegen. In plaats daarvan maakt het een ongewone manoeuvre, klonk het.

It states some images captured by NASA's Curiosity show fungi is growing on the surface of the supposedly barren planet.

Photographic evidence of such flourishing lifeforms, should the discovery be confirmed, would likely revolutionise our understanding of Mars and life outside of Earth.
Dr Regina Dass, of the department of microbiology at the school of life sciences, India, the study's co-author said: 'There are no geological or other abiogenic forces on Earth which can produce sedimentary structures, by the hundreds, which have mushroom shapes, stems, stalks, and shed what looks like spores on the surrounding surface,' the Express reports.
'In fact, fifteen specimens were photographed by NASA growing out of the ground in just three days.'
It remains unknown why life may have sprouted on Mars but it is possible conditions are more suitable for cultivating life underground than on the surface.
A controversial piece of research such as this is subjected to extensive vetting by peers within the scientific community.
The research states 15 images include evidence of algae, lichens and 'Martian mushrooms' (pictured). The claims have been published in Journal of Astrobiology and Space Science Reviews

Editors of the journal say six independent scientists and eight senior editors were recruited to scrutinise the study.
Eleven recommended publication on the grounds certain revisions were implemented and three rejected the results.
Other academics proposed an alternative explanation and say it is more feasible the specimens are hematite, a form of iron oxide.
The journal stated: 'Evidence is not proof and there is no proof of life on Mars.
'Abiogenic explanations for this evidence can't be ruled out.'
WHAT EVIDENCE DO SCIENTISTS HAVE FOR LIFE ON MARS?
The search for life on other planets has captivated mankind for decades.
But the reality could be a little less like the Hollywood blockbusters, scientists have revealed.
They say if there was life on the red planet, it probably will present itself as fossilized bacteria - and have proposed a new way to look for it.
Here are the most promising signs of life so far -
Water
When looking for life on Mars, experts agree that water is key.
Although the planet is now rocky and barren with water locked up in polar ice caps there could have been water in the past.
In 2000, scientists first spotted evidence for the existence of water on Mars.
The Nasa Mars Global Surveyor found gullies that could have been created by flowing water.
The debate is ongoing as to whether these recurring slope lineae (RSL) could have been formed from water flow.
Meteorites
Earth has been hit by 34 meteorites from Mars, three of which are believed to have the potential to carry evidence of past life on the planet, writes Space.com.
In 1996, experts found a meteorite in Antarctica known as ALH 84001 that contained fossilised bacteria-like formations.
However, in 2012, experts concluded that this organic material had been formed by volcanic activity without the involvement of life.
Signs of Life
The first close-ups of the planet were taken by the 1964 Mariner 4 mission.
These initial images showed that Mars has landforms that could have been formed when the climate was much wetter and therefore home to life.
In 1975, the first Viking orbiter was launched and although inconclusive it paved the way for other landers.
Many rovers, orbiters and landers have now revealed evidence of water beneath the crust and even occasional precipitation.
Earlier this year, Nasa's Curiosity rover found potential building blocks of life in an ancient Martian lakebed.
The organic molecules preserved in 3.5 billion-year-old bedrock in Gale Crater — believed to have once contained a shallow lake the size of Florida's Lake Okeechobee — suggest conditions back then may have been conducive to life.
Future missions to Mars plan on bringing samples back to Earth to test them more thoroughly.
Methane
In 2018, Curiosity also confirmed sharp seasonal increases of methane in the Martian atmosphere.
Experts said the methane observations provide 'one of the most compelling' cases for present-day life.
Curiosity's methane measurements occurred over four-and-a-half Earth years, covering parts of three Martian years.
Seasonal peaks were detected in late summer in the northern hemisphere and late winter in the southern hemisphere.
The magnitude of these seasonal peaks – by a factor of three – was far more than scientists expected.
The researchers pointed out features in 15 images that resembled algae, lichens, and mushrooms on Earth. They added that the shapes were impossible to replicate by non-living forces like geological movements.
“There are no geological or other abiogenic forces on Earth which can produce sedimentary structures, by the hundreds, which have mushroom shapes, stems, stalks, and shed what looks like spores on the surrounding surface,” claimed Pondicherry University researcher Dr. Regina Dass. “In fact, fifteen specimens were photographed by NASA growing out of the ground in just three days.”
Dass and her colleagues published their findings on the Journal of Astrobiology and Space Science Reviews. Due to their bold claims of finding fungal life on the surface of Mars, their research paper received thorough vetting by other researchers.
Some academics have suggested that the “Mars mushrooms” found by the researchers were more likely to be hematite, a form of iron oxide that was plentiful on Mars. The journal itself stressed the difference between evidence and proof, and classed the findings under the former. The search for more evidence of life on Mars
Researchers don’t know why life may have developed on Mars. Some of them theorize that the conditions underground may prove more hospitable to life than its surface.
While movies depict alien life in various exciting and horrifying ways, real life would probably turn out to be tamer. Experts think that any lifeforms found on Mars would appear as fossils of bacteria that died long ago.
The Red Planet is currently rocky and barren. The majority of its water is trapped in the ice caps at the polar regions.
However, researchers have uncovered evidence that liquid water once flowed across the surface of Mars. In 2000, NASA’s Mars Global Surveyor photographed gullies that might have been dug out of the ground by flowing water.
They also evaluated several meteorites originating from Mars that crashed on Earth. These chunks of metal and rock provide a glimpse of Mars during earlier periods.
Found in Antarctica in 1996, the ALH 84001 meteorite bears features that resemble fossilized bacteria. While a 2012 study eventually attributed the formation to volcanic origins instead of biological life, other Martian space rocks may present more concrete evidence.
Organic molecules in ancient lake beds and methane spikes during certain seasons
When Mariner 4 arrived at Mars in 1964, it sent back the first close-up photographs of the planet. Researchers noticed the presence of terrain features that might have formed during a time when Mars enjoyed a moist climate conducive to organic life.
Over the decades, orbiters, landers, and rovers found evidence that water lurked beneath the dry surface of Mars. They even came across clues that the planet experienced precipitation on rare occasions that its thin atmosphere gathered enough condensed water vapor for the weather event.
In 2019, the Curiosity rover came across organic molecules in the bedrock of Gale Crater, a Martian lake bed dated 3.5 billion years old. These molecules had the potential to become the building blocks of simple lifeforms.
Curiosity also sniffed out regular spikes of methane levels in the atmosphere over three Martian years. In the northern hemisphere, the gas greatly increased during late summer. In the southern half of Mars, the spikes appeared deep into the winter season.

It’s something that shouldn’t be possible. Scientists have been left baffled by a star that appears to be older than the universe itself.
Astronomers are stumped over a star that appears to be older than the universe.
So how is that possible? That’s the question that an international conference in California attempted to answer.
But instead of solving the mystery, theorists are now questioning whether there is something wrong with the current scientific model of the universe — based on Einstein’s famous theories.

The best estimates put the universe’s age at about 13.8 billion years. But the star, HD 140283, appears to be 14.5 billion years old — a difference of 0.7 billion years.
“It’s a riddle of cosmic proportions: How can the universe contain stars older than itself?” physicist Robert Matthews wrote for The National.
“That’s the conundrum now facing astronomers trying to establish the age of the universe — and its resolution could spark a scientific revolution.”
Dubbed the “Methuselah star”, HD 140283 is about 200 light-years away from Earth. It’s one of the oldest stars known.
“Astronomers now know it contains very little iron — which means it must have been formed before this element became common in the universe,” Dr Matthew wrote.
“And that implies HD 140283 must be almost as old as the universe itself.”
So what should we make of the discrepancy?
The exact age of the universe is imprecise. Scientists say it could be 800 million years younger or older.
According to Dr Matthews, new research into gravitational waves could also resolve the paradox.
Einstein’s famous theory of gravity is also in the spotlight.
His general theory of relativity, one of the towering achievements of 20th-century physics, is one of the most successful theories devised.
It’s also been repeatedly backed by observational evidence.
But Dr Matthews said applying the theory to the whole universe had led to surprising results.
“In the meantime, theorists have been busy dreaming up new physics that might solve the problem,” he wrote.

The supermassive black hole at the center of the Milky Way is normally quiet, but in May it surprised astronomers with an unprecedented explosion of infrared light.
The closest supermassive black hole to Earth, called Sagittarius A*, or Sgr A*, suddenly got 75 times brighter than normal along the near-infrared region of the light spectrum for two hours on May 13, a team of scientists has found.
According to a new paper they published on August 5 in arXiv, a Cornell University repository for scientific papers that are not yet peer reviewed, this was the brightest flash scientists had seen in 20 years of observing the black hole - and twice as bright as any previously recorded.
"The black hole was so bright I at first mistook it for the star S0-2, because I had never seen Sgr A* that bright," Tuan Do, an astronomer and lead author of the paper, told ScienceAlert. "I knew almost right away there was probably something interesting going on with the black hole."
The new findings "push the limits of the current statistical models," since those don't account for infrared flux levels this high, and suggest scientists' understanding of our galaxy's central black hole is not up-to-date, the team wrote in the paper.
The Milky Way's spiral centres around a supermassive black hole. Scientists think that every galaxy has one at its center.
Scientists think every galaxy has an especially dense "supermassive" black hole at its center. The proximity of Sgr A* makes it the easiest black hole for scientists to study. The team that discovered this unprecedented flare-up observed Sgr A* for four nights with an infrared camera at the Keck Observatory on Mauna Kea in Hawaii.
They were hoping to test Albert Einstein's theory of general relativity by observing how the black hole warped a nearby star's light. They got what they came for, plus the unprecedented infrared flare.

Here's a timelapse of images over 2.5 hr from May from @keckobservatory of the supermassive black hole Sgr A*. The black hole is always variable, but this was the brightest we've seen in the infrared so far. It was probably even brighter before we started observing that night!
For three of the four nights of observation, the black hole was in "a clearly elevated state," Do's team wrote.
"We think that something unusual might be happening this year because the black hole seems to vary in brightness more, reaching brighter levels than we've ever seen in the past," Do told Vice.
But the researchers aren't sure what exactly is going on.
In black holes, matter gets packed into a tiny space, giving them extremely powerful gravity - Sgr A*, for example, has the mass of 4 million suns. The pull of a black hole is so strong that even light cannot escape, so researchers have to observe the infrared or X-ray light that radiates out from the black hole and interacts with nearby gas and stars.
The researchers think such an interaction could have caused this bright flash. Specifically, they said, an interaction with a nearby star that passed near Sgr A* in 2018 could have disturbed gas flows at the edge of the black hole's grasp.
They also pointed to a dust cloud that passed near Sgr A* in 2014 but didn't get dramatically torn apart the way astronomers thought it would. The brightness could be a "delayed reaction," they wrote.
NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory captured an unprecedented X-ray flare from Sagittarius A* in 2013. This event was 400 times brighter than the usual X-ray output from the black hole.
In 2013, scientists detected an equally mysterious X-ray flare-up from Sgr A*, which was 400 times brighter than its normal levels of X-ray radiation.
Scientists should continue monitoring Sgr A* to see if it's experiencing significant changes, Do's team wrote. More research could also be used to update models of the regular flux of the black hole's radiation levels.
"Many astronomers are observing Sgr A* this summer," Do told Vice. "I'm hoping we can get as much data as we can this year before the region of the sky with Sgr A* gets behind the sun and we won't be able to observe it again until next year."

In slechts twee uur tijd is het zwarte gat in het centrum van ons sterrenstelsel 75 keer helderder geworden.
Sinds het moment dat wetenschappers het object 20 jaar geleden voor het eerst begonnen te bestuderen, is het nog nooit zo helder geweest.
De Keck-telescoop op Hawaï stond op 12 mei op het hart van de Melkweg gericht toen astrofysicus Tuan Do van de Galactic Center Group plotseling een ongewoon felle vlek waarnam.
Vreemd
Hij dacht in eerste instantie dat het om de nabijgelegen ster S0-2 ging.
Naarmate het helderder werd, kwam hij al snel tot de conclusie dat het raadselachtige supermassieve monster de oorzaak was.
“Ik vond het vreemd aangezien het zwarte gat nog nooit eerder zo helder is geweest,” zei Do.
Kaars
Normaal gesproken flikkert het als een kaars, soms zelfs zo zwak dat het niet waarneembaar is.
Hij speculeerde dat er mogelijk meer gas wordt opgezogen door het zwarte gat en dat het daardoor helderder is geworden.
Het verschijnsel zou ook kunnen zijn veroorzaakt door de mysterieuze gas- en stofwolk G2 die in 2014 rond het zwarte gat is waargenomen.
Vuurwerk
Destijds verwachtten sommige astronomen vuurwerk te zien, maar zij werden teleurgesteld.
Binnenkort zullen met behulp van de Event Horizon Telescope beelden worden gemaakt van het zwarte gat, Sagittarius A* geheten.

They were about one hour away from Taiwan when they noticed this glowing blue disk over the dark clouds. The disk seems to be hiding behind the darker cloud. Guys this really makes me angry. Its one thing to see those Instagramers using photoshop for selfies, but its another to catch NASA using it for photo that they make public. I wanted to have a better look at this photo, so I downloaded it and added light to it. Suddenly I saw a mess all around the edges of the photo and across its surface. The photo looks grainy and sandy. Its got scratches and brush marks on it, as if someone used a paint brush to wipe off the dirt from a camera lens. I'm really not sure what NASA did. Did they paint this scene and pretend its a photo? Or did they turn this horrible photo into a HD perfection by using photoshop to fool the public? That original photo was literally garbage! And the used photoshop to make it acceptable by the public. Thats like feeding people recycled food when they thought they were eating freshly made food. It sickens me. One thing is certain, we cannot trust NASA to release unedited photo to the public. This is 100% proof they edit photos and if they do that, they also will edit out alien structures and ships. Guys, I found the letters VEL with an arrow after it pointing up. I believe that this is referring to the ancient holy mythological spear VEL in which a goddess embodied all her powers into the spear so that it can protect her son in battle. Its an ancient religious holy relic which is still worshiped and celebrated in countries today. I believe that this holy relic spear has powers that were given not by a goddess, but by an advanced alien race that were godlike and the mother made this weapon to protect her son in battle. Much like Thor was given a hammer from his father. I also believe that the arrow at the end of the word VEL is a spear, pointing to where the ancient spear is hidden. This is in Jackson Crater on Earths moon. What better way to hide a relic from humanity than to place it on a moon orbiting the planet? Date of sighting: August 9, 2019 Location of sighting: Unknown This UFO glowed brightly during sunset as they were driving down the dirt road. However the camera battery suddenly died, making the video very short. UFOs often cause electronic disruption...as seen with the camera cutting out. The person is speaking Spanish and you can clearly hear their astonishment at what they were seeing. Many times the outer hull of UFOs will appear to be bright light. Maybe its the propulsion that causes that or maybe they think appearing as light is less frightening for eyewitnesses. Either way, many UFO reports do report of glowing objects. This looks 100% real. This is a great video of a UFO over Jackson, Wyoming last weekend. This is not just a disk, but an orb maker. Its planting orb drones every so often to cover and record an area. At 2:36 it becomes very bright...and produces a drone...which you can see below it. This is a rare catch. I only see a video of a seeding event every few years. This video is teaching us why the UFO came. To gather intel. Also, it will come back for the mini drones in a few weeks. Till then the mini drones fly around from cloud to cloud, usually cloaked, but can be easily seen with an infrared camera. They will follow birds, planes and explore while recording everything.

A persons wildlife cam caught something interesting two weeks ago. An aliens orb was caught touching the waters surface. Proof that this is not just a light reflection is that the orb is making a reflection of itself in the water. That is 100% proof that it is a real object, not an photo artifact or glitch. These orbs are interested in all forms of life from the biggest to the smallest. They can only be seen if they want to be seen, but usually are cloaked so the human eye cannot detect them, however an infrared night camera can. IR cameras cut through the cloak and can see the outline of the object really well, although the detail of the object inside is still hard to see.
I found some faces in a Mars photo today. I think the faces are literally the most important discovery a person can make next to actually finding a living alien life form. The faces tell us what they saw, what they looked like, what they feared. It shows us the character of the person, are they forgiving, kind, thoughtful, cruel, angry, mean, feared. A single face tells us so many things its unbelievable.
For some people its nothing, they fear that someone will label them as crazy. But when a stone ancient face was found on Earth in North Carolina last month...everyone could see it...even though its characteristics were less defining and less detailed than the faces I show you here today. Just because I found it on Mars...people are afraid...because if they say....yes...then they are literally changing everything they were ever taught and programed to think about life. That...is a frightening thing for anyone to encounter.

I was watching the space station live cam when I noticed the same structures under the ocean many times. What I mean is that the cam was not live at all but playing the same video all week. I saw these buildings and decide to record them. Once I enlarged them I became confident that these were ancient ruins under the ocean. Watch in the video how you can see the reflection of the sun off the surface of the water on the upper right part of the video. The long white trail...is a contrail from a jet. often seen from orbit, not a river as some suggested. This may be the lost city of Atlantis. I see no other known city of such size. Those buildings are hundreds of miles across!

Date of sighting: August 8, 2019 This orb was recorded on a deer cam a few nights ago. The orb is seen near the animals, observing and following them as they eat the grass. These orbs are thought to be alien drones which enable aliens to see, hear and even feel the things around the orb drone. Most aliens cannot live with our air, gravity, bacteria and other elements that may be fatal to them. Each species adapts to their own planets environment and each planet has a different environment in which life sprung forth. For instance we often make the mistake that all life must breath air...but its not true. For instance two years ago Russian astronauts cleaning the space stations solar panels found reported finding giant plankton living on the solar panels in space without air. Of course NASA ignored this and never reported anything about it, but Russia got credit for finding the first alien life on that day. Humans are not the only interest to aliens, our whole planet and every living thing on it is of interest to them. This camera has an infrared filter on it and flashes an IR light allowing it to see anything in the area, even if it was cloaked. A normal camera might not pick up this orb in the daytime. Scott C. Date of discovery: Aug 2019 Location of discovery: Orion Constellation I have been using this map program a few years now and have kept loads of things I have found in a file, this object being one of them. This giant blue crystal-like space station is out there near the Orion Constellation near the back foot. In the video I thought it was the head are, my bad. Clearly aliens can build a space station any way they want and this one seems to have a very artistic appearance to it. If your species is so advanced that their technology is millions of years ahead of our own, then they wont need planets any longer. They literally can chose to create their own planet size space stations and move from place to place in the universe. I would love to meet this species. It looks like a very creative species.
