China plans to build a scientific research station on the moon in "about 10 years," according to the state news agency Xinhua.
The China National Space Administration (CSNA) intends to build the research station in the region of the moon's south pole, Zhang Kejian, head of CSNA, said in a public statement, Xinhua reported. That's a bit of a departure from the six successful NASA Apollo moon landings, which took place closer to the moon's equator between 1969 and 1972.
Details of China's long-term lunar plans are still sketchy, but CSNA has made significant steps toward lunar exploration. Earlier this year, the Chinese successfully landed the uncrewed Chang'e-4 on the far side of the moon, and have also placed astronauts aboard two temporary space stations, Tiangong-1 and Tiangong-2. The first parts of that permanent station will reach orbit aboard the country's new Long March-5B rocket in the first half of 2020,Agence France-Presse (AFP) reported; the missionwill not be associated with the International Space Station. The ISS is reaching the end of its operational lifetime, plus the United States and China do not cooperate on spaceflight endeavors.
Kejian also announced that Chang'e-5, an uncrewed lunar lander originally scheduled for launch in 2017, will attempt to reach the moon and return with samples in 2019, Xinhua reported.
China currently spends more on spaceflight than any country except the U.S., according to AFP. At the moment, the U.S. is unable to put humans in space without hitching a ride on a Russian rocket; plans to change that model by using for-profit rockets – such as those owned by SpaceX – have hit some snags. Still, American officials have also suggested that there are plans to return to the moon and stay on the world for an extended period in the near future.

We really are all made of star stuff.
ALL OF THE ELEMENTS that make up everything we know originally forged in the stars billions of years ago, and scientists may have narrowed down exactly which stars gave rise to our own existence.
In a study published in July in the journal Nature Astronomy, a team of scientists suggested white dwarf stars may be the main source of carbon atoms in the Milky Way. Carbon is known to be crucial to all life as we know it.
When stars like our own Sun, a yellow dwarf star, run out of fuel, they turn into a white dwarf. In fact, 90 percent of all stars in the universe end up as white dwarf stars, scientists believe.

White dwarfs are hot, dense stellar remains with temperatures that reach 100,000 Kelvin, or 179,540 degrees Fahrenheit. Over billions of years, these stars cool and eventually dim as they shed their outer material. Right before they collapse, these remains are transported through space, blown by winds originating from their bodies.
These stellar ashes contain chemical elements, including carbon.
Carbon is the fourth most abundant chemical in the universe and is the basic building block to most cells. For years, astronomers couldn’t agree on which star was responsible for creating the most amount of carbon in the universe.
HOW THEY DID IT
The scientists behind the September study used observations of white dwarfs in open star clusters, groups of a few thousand stars formed around the same time, in the Milky Way by the W. M. Keck Observatory in Hawaii in 2018.
They measured the stars' initial-final mass relation, which is the relationship between the stars' masses when they first formed and their masses as white dwarfs.
Usually, the larger the star was, the more massive a white dwarf will be. But the study found the stars' masses as white dwarfs were larger than the scientists had anticipated considering their initial mass when they first formed.
The new findings suggest carbon was essentially trapped in the raw material that formed the Solar System 4.6 billion years ago, giving scientists a better understanding of the origin of our Sun and the planets surrounding it. And, in turn, where we came from.

Beresheet had some unusual cargo. In an attempt to document life on Earth, a non-profit organization by the name of The Arch Mission sent a library to the Moon aboard the craft. The library of life included a stack of disks archiving 30 million pages of information about Earth, a copy of the entire English-language Wikipedia, human DNA samples, and a mega-payload of thousands of tardigrades.

Tardigrades are microscopic animals, otherwise known as water bears. They may also now be the only (potentially) alive organisms on the Moon.
Beresheet's strange occupants were dehydrated tardigrades, a process which essentially slows their metabolism down and suspends them in a near-life state. The idea was that, if they were to be rehydrated by someone or something, then they would come back to life, ostensibly telling future lunar explorers about life on Earth today.

But the spacecraft carrying the tardigrades didn’t land on the Moon according to plan, instead crashing on the lunar surface and losing contact with ground control.
Despite the impact, scientists believe that if anything survived the crash intact, it may well have been the tardigrades. The microscopic creatures were sandwiched between micron-thin sheets of nickel and suspended in epoxy, a resin-like preservative that acts like a jelly — potentially enough to cushion their landing.
This is not a totally outlandish idea. Tardigrades have been shown to survive the harsh conditions of space in the past.
In September 2007, two species of dehydrated tardigrades were exposed to the vacuum of space, solar radiation, or both on board NASA’s Foton-M3 mission. Back on Earth, after they were rehydrated, the tardigrades exposed to the vacuum of space survived as though nothing had happened.
But if they did stick the landing, the tardigrades would have a hard time finding liquid water on the lunar surface to rejuvenate them — so they may not have taken over quite yet.
The idea of tiny, adorable water bears living their best life on the Moon sounds like the greatest Apollo spinoff, but unfortunately, it is less than likely a reality.

On January 1, 1801, the Italian priest, mathematician and astronomer Giuseppe Piazzi discovered the first asteroid, now called Ceres. It orbits in the asteroid belt, between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter. These days, Ceres is no longer classified as an asteroid, however. In 2006, the International Astronomical Union decided Ceres was big enough to be designated a dwarf planet. Ceres became the first-ever dwarf planet to be orbited by a spacecraft, from 2015 to 2018, when NASA’s Dawnmission peered down at Ceres and unlocked some of its mysteries.
The story of the discovery of Ceres goes back to German astronomer Johannes Kepler and to Tycho Brahe, a Danish nobleman and inveterate night sky observer, in the 1500s. When Kepler obtained Tycho’s astronomical data, he searched it for the explanation behind the motion of the planets, in particular Mars’ retrograde motion. This work led Kepler to what is one of his most praised discoveries, what we today know as Kepler’s three laws of planetary motion.
However, Kepler’s analysis also led him to discover something else. He noticed an unusually large empty area between the orbits of the planets Mars and Jupiter. This gap, combined with his realization of the regularity of the planets’ orbits, provoked Kepler to assert there must be something in the gap. He thought it might be an undiscovered planet and famously wrote:
Between Jupiter and Mars, I place a planet.
Kepler wasn’t the only one to notice this strange gap. At the beginning of the 18th century, Johann Titius, a Prussian astronomer, stated a relationship between the planet’s orbital distances from the sun, later popularized by German astronomer Johann Bode, today called the Titius-Bode Law. Briefly … begin with a 0, and then 3, and then double each subsequent number. If you do that, you get a series: 0, 3, 6, 12, 24, 48, etc. Then add 4 and divide by 10, and you get (more or less) the distances in astronomical units (AU) to the major planets of our solar system: 0.4, 0.7, 1.0, 1.6, 2.8, 5.2, and so on. But notice that 2.8 AU. It corresponds to the distance of the space between Mars and Jupiter.
But, still, nobody thought much about a possible planet between Mars and Jupiter until 1781, when William Herschel accidentally discovered a new planet – the first one found since humans began gazing at the sky – which we now call Uranus. Its distance from the sun was close to the one predicted by Titius-Bode.
And so the search was on! By the end of the 18th century, a group of astronomers who called themselves the Celestial Police took on the task of finding out what lay in the gap between Mars and Jupiter.
Giuseppe Piazzi was supposed to be one of the members, but before he received his invitation, he had already discovered Ceres in early 1801. At first, he thought the small spot he was seeing was just a dim star not included in his chart. On the next day, however, Piazzi saw that it had moved and therefore could not be a star. Illness and unfavorable weather prevented Piazzi from observing his new finding for a few nights. But by January 24, 1801 – by tracking its motion in front of the stars and thereby calculating its distance – he was certain the object was a member of our own solar system.
It was, of course, hailed as the missing planet! Piazzi named it Ceres after the Roman goddess of agriculture, fertility and harvest. Soon, though, other astronomers began finding similar bodies at Ceres’ approximate distance from the sun. German physician and astronomer Heinrich Olbers discovered the asteroid Pallas in 1802 and Vesta in 1807.
The Titius-Bode Law was disproved in 1846 with the discovery of Neptune, whose distance is much closer than predicted by this law. Today, astronomers still can’t explain why it seemed to work at first; most regard it as a coincidence.
Fast forward to 2006. The IAU designated Pluto, Ceres, and Eris as dwarf planets. A year later, NASA launched the Dawn spacecraft, the first spacecraft ever with two destinations to explore: first Vesta (which it orbited in 2011 and 2012) and then Ceres (which it orbited from 2015 to 2018).
Therefore, Ceres has been “discovered” a second time, as a wealth of data about the dwarf planet poured in from Dawn. We’ve learned that organics exist on Ceres, such as those found near Emutet Crater. We discovered bright spots of salt deposits, water in shadowed craters and under the surface, plus a volcano that might be responsible for recent geologic activity. Bottom line: Ceres, the first asteroid to be discovered, on January 1, 1801, is now known as a dwarf planet and has revealed many of its secrets to NASA’s Dawn spacecraft.

I was looking at old historical film archives and found this one that really grabbed my attention. Not only is there a UFO that flies past the most memorable and historical moment of the Iwo Jima battle, but as it flies past, the soldiers turn from looking at the flag to looking at the UFO and then its cut out! There is 10-30 seconds missing from this historical film! Why? Because someone else also saw it and wanted to remove it from US history. However they did a poor job and the cut is not only deliberate, but obvious to all who see it.
This is 100% proof that aliens can time travel to any place or moment in history to watch humans and study them.

Russian astronauts from Salyut 7, a space station, narrated two different encounters with ” angels ” or winged extraterrestrial beings.
Salyut 7 was a Soviet Union space station from the 1980s. In July 1984 , six of its Russian astronauts witnessed two separate sightings of seven giant humanoid and alien ( angel-like ) winged beings . It is unlikely that it was a shared or collective hallucination , so the report is surprising.
Salyut 7 was the last space station of that Salyut program initiated on April 19, 1982 by the Soviet Union, during the Cold War. It completed its mission in 1986 . This station was 16 meters long and was home to six crews.

(Public domain) Russian astronauts Leonid Kizim, Vladimir Solovyev and Oleg Atkov spent 237 days in space in 1984 and were the three witnesses to the first paranormal phenomenon that occurred on July 12, 1984 : the sighting of angels or alien winged beings.
The first thing they observed was ” a strange orange glow around the spacecraft . ” It was like a ” cloud ” of mysterious cosmic origin and not a “gas leak” , as the crew first thought. In the end, an ” explosion of orange light ” left them momentarily blinded.
According to researcher William Henry , witnesses, after the explosion, were able to spot seven winged humanoid entities (seven angels) . They were also gigantic: “they were more than 24 meters high . ” One of the astronauts said:
What we saw were seven giant human-shaped figures, but with wings and halos like mist, as in classic descriptions of angels.
Furthermore, these beings gave off a kind of “energy” or “aura” of peace and positive feelings (they even smiled at them !). They were outside Salyut 7 for about ten minutes and then they disappeared .
Collective hallucination or real beings?
The second incident occurred on July 17 , after three other astronauts arrived : Vladimir Dzhanibekov, Svetlana Savitskaya and Igor Volk . The seven angels reappeared . Both incidents were reported to the command station on Earth. The first was considered by scientists in charge as a hallucination caused by the loss of oxygen and pressure changes .

I grew up in a Christian home, where a photo of Jesus hung on my bedroom wall. I still have it. It is schmaltzy and rather tacky in that 1970s kind of way, but as a little girl I loved it. In this picture, Jesus looks kind and gentle, he gazes down at me lovingly. He is also light-haired, blue-eyed, and very white.
The problem is, Jesus was not white. You’d be forgiven for thinking otherwise if you’ve ever entered a Western church or visited an art gallery. But while there is no physical description of him in the Bible, there is also no doubt that the historical Jesus, the man who was executed by the Roman State in the first century CE, was a brown-skinned, Middle Eastern Jew.
This is not controversial from a scholarly point of view, but somehow it is a forgotten detail for many of the millions of Christians who will gather to celebrate Easter this week.
On Good Friday, Christians attend churches to worship Jesus and, in particular, remember his death on a cross. In most of these churches, Jesus will be depicted as a white man, a guy that looks like Anglo-Australians, a guy easy for other Anglo-Australians to identify with.
Think for a moment of the rather dashing Jim Caviezel, who played Jesus in Mel Gibson’s Passion of the Christ. He is an Irish-American actor. Or call to mind some of the most famous artworks of Jesus’ crucifixion – Ruben, Grunewald, Giotto – and again we see the European bias in depicting a white-skinned Jesus.
Does any of this matter? Yes, it really does. As a society, we are well aware of the power of representation and the importance of diverse role models.
After winning the 2013 Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in 12 Years a Slave, Kenyan actress Lupita Nyong’o shot to fame. In interviews since then, Nyong’o has repeatedly articulated her feelings of inferiority as a young woman because all the images of beauty she saw around her were of lighter-skinned women. It was only when she saw the fashion world embracing Sudanese model Alek Wek that she realised black could be beautiful too.
If we can recognise the importance of ethnically and physically diverse role models in our media, why can’t we do the same for faith? Why do we continue to allow images of a whitened Jesus to dominate?

Many churches and cultures do depict Jesus as a brown or black man. Orthodox Christians usually have a very different iconography to that of European art – if you enter a church in Africa, you’ll likely see an African Jesus on display.
But these are rarely the images we see in Australian Protestant and Catholic churches, and it is our loss. It allows the mainstream Christian community to separate their devotion to Jesus from compassionate regard for those who look different.
I would even go so far as to say it creates a cognitive disconnect, where one can feel deep affection for Jesus but little empathy for a Middle Eastern person. It likewise has implications for the theological claim that humans are made in God’s image. If God is always imaged as white, then the default human becomes white and such thinking undergirds racism.
Historically, the whitewashing of Jesus contributed to Christians being some of the worst perpetrators of anti-Semitism and it continues to manifest in the “othering” of non-Anglo Saxon Australians.
This Easter, I can’t help but wonder, what would our church and society look like if we just remembered that Jesus was brown? If we were confronted with the reality that the body hung on the cross was a brown body: one broken, tortured, and publicly executed by an oppressive regime.
How might it change our attitudes if we could see that the unjust imprisonment, abuse, and execution of the historical Jesus has more in common with the experience of Indigenous Australians or asylum seekers than it does with those who hold power in the church and usually represent Christ?
Perhaps most radical of all, I can’t help but wonder what might change if we were more mindful that the person Christians celebrate as God in the flesh and saviour of the entire world was not a white man, but a Middle Eastern Jew.

“This could be a hugely significant moment in the history of UFOs.”
While the final count is not in yet, there is a general consensus among UFO researchers that the total number of sightings in 2020 is way up, and much of it is due to the worldwide coronavirus pandemic which has kept people home with time on their hands to look up, and a sky that has a reduced amount of conventional aircraft (less flights), pollution (less automobiles) and lights (less office lights, headlights, etc.). Gary Heseltine is one of those researchers and he recently went a step further – in an interview, he said that this increase in sightings is making the public more demanding of answers and more open to the truth about what these UFOs might be – a truth he believes the British government (and others) has been hiding from the public.
“My name is Gary Heseltine and I am a retired Detective Constable. I served in the British Transport police between 1989-2013. Collar number 1877. In January 2002 I launched the database. The database caters for serving and retired officers who have been involved in British UFO police sightings. When I began the database I had a half dozen police reports involving approximately 10 police officers. Now after 13 years of research I have collected over 500 reports dating back to 1901 involving over 1000 police officers.”
As his website attests, Gary Heseltine is no ordinary UFO researcher. The retired British police officer is the creator manager of the PRUFOS (Police Reporting UFO Sightings) database and the editor of UFO Truth magazine. He collected over 500 UFO reports by police officers both on and off duty by 2015 when this biography was written and has not stopped accumulating them. Nor has he stopped demanding answers from the British government, which stopped keeping an official record of UFO reports in 2009 after 50 years as a function of the Ministry of Defence.

In April 2020, The Daily Star was already reporting a significant spike in UFO sightings that has not abated. While many are being attributed to the SpaceX Starlink satellite project, Heseltine points out in his interview with The Sun that this is actually a good thing – it helps reduce the public’s fear of UFOs and UFO reporting. And, while the 1989 spike in sightings was attributed to secret military tests, Heseltine points out that “In over 50 years no UFO report has revealed anything to suggest a military threat to the UK.” Based on that, he issued another demand:
“It’s high time they changed and we had an open attitude to explore the best evidence in the public.”
Like a good ex-cop investigator, Heseltine won’t give up. In 2016 he demanded answers about a UFO encounter on September 17, 2016, over Bristol Channel when a police helicopter belonging to the National Police Air Service (NPAS) in South Wales photographed a glowing orb using an infrared camera set to pick up heat-emitting objects. Heseltine submitted Freedom of Information Requests for flight maps and audio from the helicopter and, when he was ignored, went to the media. He did the same in 2019 when there was a worldwide increase in sightings of snake-like UFOs. Now he’s doing it again.
Can the public handle the truth?
Researchers like Gary Heseltine are the personification of a never-ending clash of catchphrases: “The truth is out there” from The X-Files, and “You can’t handle the truth!” from “A Few Good Men.” Only in this case, Heseltine is both Fox Mulder and one of the few good men. Let’s hope he succeeds in leading us to the truth.
The Milky Way seems like a nice galaxy. Why would anyone – on Earth or any other planet — want to leave the Milky Way permanently? That’s just one of the many questions to ponder as Chinese astronomers announced the discovery of 591 high-velocity stars and 43 of them appear to be heading out for parts unknown. Was it something we said in one of those SETI messages?
“Though rare in the Milky Way, high-velocity stars, with unique kinematics, can provide deep insight into a wide range of Galactic science, from the central supermassive black hole to distant Galactic halo.”

In a press release announcing the paper on this discovery published in The Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series, co-author Luo Youjun from the National Astronomical Observatories of Chinese Academy of Sciences (NAOC) explains the rarity of high-velocity stars – so-called because they’re moving faster than 65 km/s to 100 km/s relative to the average motion of the stars in the Sun’s neighborhood. First discovered in 2005, only 550 had been discovered in total until this new batch more than doubled it. Credit goes to data from the Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope (LAMOST) in China and the European Space Agency’s Gaia space observatory.

NAOC Prof. Luo Ali explains that these stars are in the inner portion of the galactic halo — the spherical outer edge beyond the visible part of a galaxy. There are four types: hypervelocity stars, runaway stars, hyper-runaway stars, and fast halo stars. Of this group, around 80 are metal-rich halo stars and at least 43 are runaways with escape probabilities larger than 50%. They can be ‘running’ away for one of three reasons (or a combination of them): a collision between stars or galaxies; a supernova explosion in a multistar system; or gravitational interactions between stars in a multistar system. Since the Milky Way’s halo is thought to contain the remnants of galactic collisions, that might be the primary cause of these particular runaways.
“The discovery of these high-velocity stars tells us that the combination of multiple large surveys in the future will help us to discover more high-velocity stars and other rare stars, which will be used to study the unsolved mystery about our Galaxy.”
Senior author Professor Gang Zhao from NAOC thinks the high-velocity runaways are key to solving the mystery of the formation of the Milky Way, especially how the halo was formed by galactic accretion (absorbing other galaxies) and tidal disruption of dwarf galaxies (when its stars approach the supermassive black hole in the center and are pulled apart).
Are those sufficient reasons for a star to run away from its galaxy? Astronomers are so unromantic.

Travel‘s airing of the James Fox UFO documentary Wednesday night (8 to 10 p.m) was superb.
(Was it the Phenomenon movie or parts culled from it?)
Old classic UFO sightings had material that I hadn’t seen before; for example, the measured footprints alongside the Socorro landing impressions from the 1964 craft that Lonnie Zamora spotted.
(I noted that a cursory fling at the 1966 Ann Arbor/Dexter UFO sighting misspelled the main witness’s name as Frank Manor when it’s Frank Mannor.)
The 1959 Reverend Gill sighting was encapsulated by a video of Reverend Gill talking about it and giving credence to what he and his parishioners saw.
The AATIP videos were exploited and made fresh by new insights.
There were so many old/new things presented with material(s) not known by most UFOers that it was one of the best UFO presentations I’ve seen.
The 1994 Ariel school sighting ended the showing with an elaboration that provided information indicating, for me, the idea that UFOs and their alleged “pilots” are from our future, rather than extraterrestrials.
The airing was dedicated to Stanton Friedman, a nice touch.

I was using Google Earth map and found a woman's face along the water. I say woman's because I believe the alien artist used the water as part of its art...using part of nature to mesh into the beauty of the woman and to exaggerate how beautiful she was by insinuating that her hair was long and flowing like the ocean itself. She also has a ruffled dress that comes just above the breast area, no straps holding it up. Her bare shoulders are both visible and magnificently done.
I also found a harbor area that looks intelligently made. And there is also another face, that I believe will frighten people so much that they may try to deny its real. Because the human defense mechanisms are powerful and will fight anything that challenges how we see the world around us. Nothing is more challenging of our reality than the possibility that our reality is not the true reality of things.

Archaeologists believe they've found the oldest known tool used for grinding or scraping, dating back some 350,000 years.
Found in the Tabun Cave in northern Israel, the implement is a cobble, a type of small rounded stone, and predates homo sapiens by at least 50,000 years.
Previously, such tools weren't thought to have been introduced until much later, approximately 200,000 years ago.
It was used by prehistoric hominids for 'delicate abrading,' researchers say, though for exactly what purpose is still unknown.

Tabun Cave, located on Mount Carmel near Haifa, was first explored by British archaeologist Dorothy Garrod in the 1920s.
It is believed to be home to one of the longest periods of human occupation in the Levant.

Made of the mineral dolomite, the tool was first uncovered in the 1960s, but its simplistic appearance led it to be largely ignored for decades.
More recently it was reexamined by a team from the University of Haifa's Zinman Institute of Archaeology as part of an ongoing effort to reassess items found at the cave.
Judging by microscopic wear patterns, they determined it was used for scraping surfaces—a groundbreaking discovery.
'The entire engagement in this technology is much later, around 200,000 years ago,' co-author Ron Shimelmitz told Haaretz.
It's evidence that 'at such an early stage a very significant technology was added to [the hominids'] 'toolbox,'' according to the researchers, who published their findings in the Journal of Human Evolution.

'While the tool is seemingly 'simple,' its early appearance and the fact that it has no parallel in such an early stage of human evolution give it world importance.'
They hypothesize it was used to work soft animal hides but whether for clothing or some other purpose is still a mystery.
'We were left with some question marks,' Shimelmitz told The Times of Israel.
Earlier stone tools have been found before—some dating to more than 3 million years ago—but they usually showed evidence of pounding or beating, which are vertical motions.
This dolemite cobble is the first known item used for scraping, which requires a horizontal motion and allows for more delicate manipulation of a material.
Marks on the stone are similar to those found on later grinding tools, The Times of Israel.
The discovery connects us more closely to our pre-human ancestor and allows scientists to trace 'how cognitive and motor abilities that developed during human evolution eventually evolved into important phenomena in human culture to this day,' the authors said in a statement, including agriculture, food production, fixed residences, storage and 'an increase in social and economic complexity.'

The world’s oldest stone tool used for “delicate” abrading work was found close to Haifa, Israel, and dates back approximately 350,000 years. This is pretty significant as it dates back about 150,000 years earlier than when those types of tools were previously thought to have existed.
According to the University of Haifa research team, the dolomite cobble, which was discovered in the Tabun Cave at Mount Carmel, was believed to have been used to wear down materials (most probably soft materials), although the exact purpose is still unknown.
Researchers Ron Shimelmitz, Iris Groman-Yaroslavski, Mina Weinstein-Evron, and Danny Rosenberg, of the university’s Zinman Institute of Archaeology, explained this further, “While the tool is seemingly ‘simple,’ its early appearance and the fact that it has no parallel in such an early stage of human evolution give it world importance,” adding that the small rounded stone was “at such an early stage a very significant technology was added to [the hominids’] ‘toolbox’.”

This isn’t the oldest tool ever discovered, as previous discoveries have dated as far back as 1.5 million years; however, those were used to pound or beat materials. The cobble found in the Tabun Cave is the oldest known tool that was used for abrading materials. Another significant difference is that the cobble was used in a horizontal motion while the older pounding tools were used in vertical motions.
The researchers explained this further, “The small cobble is of immense importance because it allows us to trace the earliest origins of the abrasion action and how cognitive and motor abilities that developed during human evolution eventually evolved into important phenomena in human culture to this day, primarily involving abrasion and development of food production techniques, stationary settlement, agriculture, storage and later an increase in social and economic complexity.”

The tool was originally discovered in the 1960s but researchers have recently analyzed it in more detail as part of a project where experts study objects that have been previously found at the Mount Carmel sites. In fact, the cave in which the cobble was found has been used by hominids for the last 500,000 years so the site is of extreme importance.
The researchers saw that the stones contained marks which were consistent with abrading work. At that point, they performed several tests on additional dolomite cobbles that were discovered in the same area. They rubbed the cobbles against different materials in order to find out which ones made those same marks and they found that it was probably used on animal hides. (Pictures can be seen here.)
