In 1974 we sent a message to space, and we received a reply in 2001
In 1974 we sent a message to space, and we received a reply in 2001
In 1974, scientists sent a message containing the location of the Earth in the solar system, our DNA structure, and other relevant details in space. In 2001, we received a response that has gone unnoticed by everyone.
In an effort to discover intelligent alien life, Carl Sagan sent a transmission known as the ‘Arecibo’ message into space via radio waves.
The message addressed to intelligent extraterrestrial beings was the most powerful radio transmission ever transmitted to space by humanity.
By comparison, the signal sent into space was a million times stronger than a typical television broadcast.
Aimed at a group of stars located more than 25,000 light years away, the pictorial message was sent in the hope that one day we would receive a similar response from another civilization.
The radio signal included the location of our planet Earth within our star system, the basics of mathematics and science, and the type of antenna that was used to relay the signal – all characteristics that an intelligent alien civilization should understand. .
The message prepared by Carl Sagan and his colleagues also included information about our species, our music, even our physical appearance was included in the radio message, as well as in our DNA codes.
A few years after the signal was sent, people forgot about it. Then, 27 years later, already in 2001, a ” Crop Circle ” that is, a crop circle appeared shaking the scientific community.
A pattern appeared in a farm field, right next to the UK’s largest telescope and observatory, the Chilbolton, where the world’s largest fully addressable weather radar is located, and the surprise was that it looked like a response to the transmission sent. way back in 1974.
It was considered by many to be one of the most impressive and important crop circles ever to appear on our planet, as this circle, unlike others, carried a message direct from space.
While many dismissed the crop circle near Chilbolton as yet another hoax, analysis showed that it carried a message, or rather a response from another civilization.
Describing a different solar system in the universe, the emitter image, non-human DNA, and some microwave antennae, the Chilbolton Crop Circle was the final answer we had always hoped for.
Incredibly, just a year before the extraterrestrial message was discovered, in the year 2000 a circle of unknown shape appeared alongside Chilbolton.
A year later, the puzzle was put together, and we could see that the crop circle that appeared in 2000 was, in fact, a representation of the microwave telescope used to transmit the signal to us.
In 2001, three days after the mysterious answer appeared alongside Chilbolton; another crop circle was found depicting what appeared to be an alien face.
According to the librarypleyades.net portal, the decimal equivalents of the binary code were not modified with respect to the original ‘Arecibo’. But the atomic numbers of the elements that make up the basis of life had been altered:
Silicon, an element with an atomic number of 14, was added in precisely the correct sequence: between oxygen (atomic number 8) and phosphorus (atomic number 15).
In 1969, the late Ben Volcani, a renowned microbiologist at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, discovered the crucial role of silicon in carbon-based life.
His work and that of his colleagues (such as Charles Mehard, also at Scripps, and Edith Carlisle in the 1970s at UCLA) demonstrated that the presence of silicon is critical in a variety of terrestrial life forms, as well as in the structure of human cells: example, in the union of cartilage and mineral aspects of bones.
It remains to be debated whether the crop circle that appeared alongside Chilbolton was, in fact, an extraterrestrial response.
However, many people are firmly convinced that not only is the 2001 Chilbolton an actual message from another intelligent alien civilization in the universe, but we receive similar messages almost every day.

Humans Originated On Another Planet – Where They Eventually Evolved, Before Being Taken To Earth In The Very Distant Past
Humans Originated On Another Planet – Where They Eventually Evolved, Before Being Taken To Earth In The Very Distant Past
A researcher argues that humans evolved on a different planet and were eventually brought to Earth in the very distant past.
What if we are the aliens we’ve been searching for all along? Despite the progress made in various science branches like biology, chemistry, and astrophysics, we are still unable to say for certain how life started on Earth.
Was this a unique event across the universe? Or is it possible that there are out there planets eerily similar to Earth, which harbor life, even if it is just primitive?
The truth is that we have theorized about the origins of life ever since the human mind was capable of thinking.
Did life come from space? Did life originate on the planet, without ‘extraterrestrial’ (Comets, Asteroids, etc.) influence? What’s the science behind human origins?
If amino acids arrived with comet impacts, it would suggest, as some experts argue, that life may be widespread in our solar system.
But what if things are not so simple? What if the origins of life are anything but rational?
What if humans are NOT from Earth?
That’s a controversial subject touched by the book written by American ecologist Dr. Ellis Silver. Humans Are Not From Earth His book, titled ‘Humans are not from Earth: a scientific evaluation of the evidence,’ suggests that our species is not native to Earth and may have come from elsewhere.
Dr. Silver provides arguments based on various subjects like human psychology, arguing that humankind did not evolve alongside other life forms on Earth. Instead, the researcher indicates that humans came into existence on a different planet, and we were ‘brought to Earth’ in the very distant past.
The book offers five distinctive points:
The researcher explained that his book is based on the scientific differences between humans and other animals on Earth.
The Earth approximately meets our needs as a species, but perhaps not as strongly as whoever brought us here initially thought,” explained Dr. Silver in an interview.
The researcher points towards chronic diseases that affect the human race, like back pain, indicating it could be a sign that proves our species formed on another world, with much less gravity.
Dr. Silver also mentions other uniquely human traits: humans have 223 extra genes, not found in any other species.
The American researcher further suggests the human race has several ‘serious flaws’ that point to the possibility we are not from this planet.
“We are all chronically ill,” Dr. Silver explains.
“Indeed, if you can find a single person who is 100% fit and healthy and not suffering from some (perhaps hidden or unstated) condition or disorder (there’s an extensive list in the book), I would be amazed – I have not been able to find anyone.” “I believe that many of our problems stem from the simple fact that our internal body clocks have evolved to expect a 25-hour day (sleep researchers have proved this), but the Earth’s day is only 24 hours. This is not a modern condition – the same factors can be traced all the way back through humankind’s history on Earth.”
So, if we are not from Earth, where did we come from?
Dr. Silva argues that one possibility is , the closest star system to the sun.
In his book, Silva explains that even though humankind is supposedly the most developed species on the planet, it is surprisingly unsuited and ill-equipped for our planet’s environment: humans are harmed by sunlight and tend to have a strong dislike for naturally occurring (raw) foods. The researcher argues that humans have ridiculously high rates of chronic disease, among other things. “My thesis,” says Silver, “proposes that mankind did not evolve from that particular strain of life, but evolved elsewhere and was transported to Earth (as fully evolved Homo sapiens) between 60,000 and 200,000 years ago.” And while we may not have arrived on earth in alien spaceships, experts conducting simulations using supercomputers at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in the US have discovered that amino acids, the building blocks of life, may have reached our planet from outer space via comets or meteors.
This single possibility suggests that life is not unique on Earth, and there could be similar forms of life on distant alien moons and planets, some of them even inside our very own cosmic neighborhood.
The Solar and Heliospheric Observatory has captured once again a composite of images depicting a shadowy object around the sun, appearing to be at the end of a tendril extending into the sun. The latest images depicting the unknown planet-sized object were taken on April 19th, 2022, ten years after the first footage depicting the exactly same object was taken. In the image sequence, the dark object is surrounded by a burst of brightly lit material that can be seen erupting from the sun’s surface. The orb then separates from the sun and rockets into space.
Many are suspecting it to be a refueling UFO spaceship. However, according to NASA scientists, the feature is actually little-understood, but frequently observed. It’s a type of solar activity called a “prominence” – a phenomenon caused by cooler, denser plasma interacting with highly charged coronal plasma. In other words, it could be an optical illusion created by the plasma.
In the image series from 2012 and 2022, there is a burst of activity around the prominence, and then it and the filament channel shoot out into space immediately afterwards. According to Joseph Gurman, a project scientist in the Solar Physics Laboratory at NASA Goddard, the first event was probably an outburst of the sun’s magnetic field called a coronal mass ejection.
“It’s generally accepted, though still not conclusively proven, that prominence eruptions occur when the overlying magnetic field that contains the prominence material is disrupted,”
The inconsistencies with the official claims by NASA scientists
Our question is, if it’s an outburst of the sun’s magnetic field, why doesn’t the prominence appear to move along with the sun as it rotates, but remains stationary? Also, while observing the footage, one couldn’t help but notice how it is situated in the exact same location as it was in the footage from 2012. How could a coronal mass ejection happen in the exact same spot creating the exact same illusion it did ten years ago?
Does it look like a solar eruption or a refueling UFO spaceship? You may take a look at the footage below.

Lava tubes on Mars and the Moon are up to 1,000 times bigger than those on Earth and are so wide they could be used to host planetary bases for future space exploration, study shows
Lava tubes on Mars and the Moon are up to 1,000 times bigger than those on Earth and are so wide they could be used to host planetary bases for future space exploration, study shows
Researchers used lava tubes on the Earth to determine their size on other worlds
Those on the Moon are the largest and reach up to 100ft wide and 25 miles long
They are in the subsurface of the worlds and provide a constant temperature
Lava tubes under the surface of the Moon and Mars are so large they could host entire planetary bases for future space exploration, planetary scientists claim.
Researchers at the Universities of Bologna and Padua studied the subsurface cavities that lava created billions of years ago under the surface of Mars and the Moon.
These cavities can shield from cosmic radiations, according to the team, who found the celestial bodies held lava tubes up to 1,000 times larger than those on Earth.
Similar tubes found on Earth were measured by the team and used to estimate the size of the ones thought to exist underneath the surface of the other worlds.
The largest of the tubes are found on the Moon and are up to 100ft wide and more than 25 miles long, enough for a base the size of a small town, the team said.
This is an artistic rendering of a possible lava tube. These cavities can shield from cosmic radiation and the Moon holds lava tubes up to 1,000 times larger than those on Earth
The team used data from various interplanetary probes to determine the size and scale of the lava tubes on the Moon and Mars
Tubes found on the Moon are larger than those on Earth or Mars due to the much lower gravity and the impact it had on lava flows in its early development.
Francesco Sauro, of the European Space Agency and Riccardo Pozzobon, a planetary geologist at the University of Padua estimated their scale.
'We can find lava tubes on planet Earth, but also on the subsurface of the Moon and Mars according to the high-resolution pictures of lava tubes' skylights taken by interplanetary probes,' said Sauro.
'Evidence of lava tubes was often inferred by observing linear cavities and sinuous collapse chains where the galleries cracked.'
The way these lava tubes appear on the surface of the Moon and Mars is similar to ones found on the Earth - particularly in Hawaii, Canary Islands and Australia.
These images show the different ways lava tubes are produced on the Earth, Moon and Mars
These tubes have been extensively studied on Earth and the findings have been used to estimate their size, shape and scale on other celestial bodies.
'We measured the size and gathered the morphology of lunar and Martian collapse chains (collapsed lava tubes), using digital terrain models,' said Pozzobon
These were taken from satellite images and laser altimetry devices carried by various interplanetary probes over the years.
'We then compared these data to topographic studies about similar collapse chains on the Earth's surface and to laser scans of the inside of lava tubes in Lanzarote and the Galapagos,' he said.
'These data allowed to establish a restriction to the relationship between collapse chains and subsurface cavities that are still intact'.
Researchers found that Martian and lunar tubes are respectively 100 and 1,000 times wider than those on Earth, which typically have a diameter of up to 98ft.
Lower gravity and its effect on early volcanism helped explain why the tubes on the Moon and Mars are so much larger than on the Earth, the team explained.
Riccardo Pozzobon said tubes this wide can be longer than 25 miles going under the subsurface of the Moon - making it an 'extraordinary target for subsurface exploration and potential settlement'.
These tubes have a wide, protected and stable environment and are big enough that they could contain the entirety of a small town.
'What is most important is that, despite the impressive dimension of the lunar tubes, they remain well within the roof stability threshold because of a lower gravitational attraction', explains Matteo Massironi, from the University of Padua.
'This means that the majority of lava tubes underneath the maria smooth plains are intact,' the planetary geologist explained.
The team used various techniques including 3D modelling to track the path of the lava tubes on the celestial bodies
The authors found that on the Moon the tubes are up to 100ft wide with a length of 25 miles
'The collapse chains we observed might have been caused by asteroids piercing the tube walls. This is what the collapse chains in Marius Hills seem to suggest. From the latter, we can get access to these huge underground cavities'.
Sauro explained that they would provide stable shields from cosmic and solar radiation as well as micrometeorite impacts that happen often on planetary bodies.
A number of projects and design challenges have been happening across the world to create potentially safe designs to help in the colonising of other worlds.
They have used everything from 3D printed materials made from lunar regolith, to beehive like lattice structures design to block meteorites and radiation.
The benefit of the lava tubes, assuming the estimates of their size prove to be correct, would be similar to the human made structures - without the need to build.
They would also have great potential for providing an environment in which temperatures do not vary from day- to night-time.
Researchers examined lava tubes found on Earth to estimate the size and scale of those on the Moon and on Mars
Tubes were found on Mars and the Moon by orbiting satellites and are seen as circles or dents in the surface
'Space agencies are now interested in planetary caves and lava tubes, as they represent a first step towards future explorations of the lunar surface,' said Sauro.
Researchers also point out how this study opens up to a completely new perspective in planetary exploration, which is focusing on the subsurface of Mars and the Moon.
'In autumn 2019, ESA called up universities and industries with a campaign seeking ideas for developing technologies for lunar caves exploration,' said Unibo professor Jo Da Waele, an author of the study.
'They are specifically looking for systems that would land on the lunar surface to operate missions exploring lunar tubes', De Waele explained.
Since 2012, in collaboration with some European universities including Bologna and Padua, ESA has been carrying out two training programmes for astronauts focusing on the exploration of underground systems and planetary geology.
These programmes include lava tubes on the island of Lanzarote and 36 astronauts from five space agencies have received training in cave hiking.
NASA plans to send a manned mission to Mars in the 2030s after first landing on the Moon
Mars has become the next giant leap for mankind's exploration of space.
But before humans get to the red planet, astronauts will take a series of small steps by returning to the moon for a year-long mission.
Details of a the mission in lunar orbit have been unveiled as part of a timeline of events leading to missions to Mars in the 2030s.
Nasa has outlined its four stage plan (pictured) which it hopes will one day allow humans to visit Mars at he Humans to Mars Summit held in Washington DC yesterday. This will entail multiple missions to the moon over coming decades
In May 2017, Greg Williams, deputy associate administrator for policy and plans at Nasa, outlined the space agency's four stage plan that it hopes will one day allow humans to visit Mars, as well as its expected time-frame.
Phase one and two will involve multiple trips to lunar space, to allow for construction of a habitat which will provide a staging area for the journey.
The last piece of delivered hardware would be the actual Deep Space Transport vehicle that would later be used to carry a crew to Mars.
And a year-long simulation of life on Mars will be conducted in 2027.
Phase three and and four will begin after 2030 and will involve sustained crew expeditions to the Martian system and surface of Mars.
Lava Tubes on the Moon Maintain Comfortable Room Temperatures Inside
Lava Tubes on the Moon Maintain Comfortable Room Temperatures Inside
Searching for a comfortable place to set up a research station on the Moon? Look no further than the interior parts of lunar pits and caves. While lack of air will be an issue, new research indicates these underground sanctuaries have steady temperatures that hover around 17 Celsius, or 63 Fahrenheit, even though the Moon’s surface heats up to about 127 C (260 F) during the day and cool to minus 173 C (minus 280 F) at night.
Lunar pits, or lava tubes were discovered in 2009 by the Lunar Reconnaissance Obiter and Japan’s Kaguya spacecraft. These are deep holes on the moon that could open into vast underground tunnels. They likely could serve as a safe shielding from cosmic rays, solar radiation and micrometeorites for future human lunar explorers. But now we know they could provide thermally stable sites for lunar exploration.
These long, winding lava tubes are like structures we have on Earth. They are created when the top of a stream of molten rock solidifies and the lava inside drains away, leaving a hollow tube of rock. For years before their existence was confirmed, scientists thought there were hints that the Moon had lava tubes based on observations of long, winding depressions carved into the lunar surface by the flow of lava, called sinuous rilles.

So far, about 200 lunar pits have been found and at least 16 of these are probably collapsed lava tubes, with the potential for ‘livable’ space, said Tyler Horvath, a UCLA doctoral student in planetary science, who led the new research. Two of the most prominent pits have visible overhangs that clearly lead to some sort of cave or void, and there is strong evidence that another’s overhang may also lead to a large cave.
Horvath processed images from the Diviner Lunar Radiometer Experiment — a thermal camera and one of six instruments on LRO — to find out if the temperature within the pits diverged from those on the surface. Diviner is designed to measure surface temperatures on the Moon, and Horvath’s team had to focus in on extremely small areas to get their data.
They focused on a pit found in the Sea of Tranquility (Mare Tranquillitatis). This image, below, was taken as the Sun was almost straight overhead, illuminating the region. By comparing this image with previous images that have different lighting, scientists can estimate the depth of the pit. They believe it to be over 100 meters.
This is a spectacular high-Sun view of the Mare Tranquillitatis pit crater, revealing the overhang and deep, dark pit. This image from LRO’s Narrow Angle Camera is 400 meters (1,312 feet) wide, north is up. Credits: NASA/Goddard/Arizona State University
The researchers used computer modeling to analyze the thermal properties of the rock and lunar dust and to chart the pit’s temperatures over a period of time. Their research, recently published in the journal Geophysical Research Letters, revealed that temperatures within the permanently shadowed reaches of the pit fluctuate only slightly throughout the lunar day, remaining at around 17 C (63 F). If a cave extends from the bottom of the pit, as images taken by the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Camera suggest, it too would have this relatively comfortable temperature. The researchers think the overhang is responsible for the steady temperature, limiting how hot things get during the day and preventing heat from radiating away at night.
However, if this particular pit was to be used as a habitat or research station, there would likely be a heat problem just inside the pit. The sunbaked part of the pit floor not protected by the overhang hits daytime temperatures close to 150 C (300 F), which is even hotter than the Moon’s surface.
“Because the Tranquillitatis pit is the closest to the lunar equator, the illuminated floor at noon is probably the hottest place on the entire moon,” said Horvath.

Since a day on the Moon lasts nearly 15 Earth days, the lunar surface is constantly bombarded by sunlight and is frequently hot enough to boil water. Conversely, the equally long lunar nights (also 15 Earth days long) reach incredibly cold temperatures. Any habitat or base would mean inventing heating and cooling equipment that can operate under these conditions, as well as ways to produce enough energy to power it nonstop. This could prove to be an insurmountable barrier to lunar exploration or habitation.
However, the researchers say that building bases in the shadowed parts of these pits allows scientists to focus on other challenges, like growing food, providing oxygen for astronauts, gathering resources for experiments and expanding the base.
“Humans evolved living in caves, and to caves we might return when we live on the moon,” said UCLA professor of planetary science David Paige, who leads the Diviner Lunar Radiometer Experiment and participated in the research.
A Fast-Moving Star is Colliding With Interstellar gas, Creating a Spectacular bow Shock
A Fast-Moving Star is Colliding With Interstellar gas, Creating a Spectacular bow Shock
Zeta Ophiuchi has had an interesting life. It began as a typical large star about twenty times more massive than the Sun. It spent its days happily orbiting a large companion star until its companion exploded as a supernova about a million years ago. The explosion ejected Zeta Ophiuchi, so now it is speeding away through interstellar space. Of course, the supernova also expelled the outer layers of the companion star, so rather than empty space, our plucky star is speeding through the remnant gas as well. As they say on Facebook, it’s complicated. And that’s great news for astronomers, as a recent study shows.
Zeta Ophiuchi is most famous for beautiful images such as the one above. By plowing through interstellar gas, the star has created heated shock waves that glow in everything from infrared to x-rays. The physics of these shock waves is tremendously complex. It is governed by a set of mathematical equations known as magnetohydrodynamics, which describes the behavior of fluid gases and their surrounding magnetic fields. Modeling these equations is bad enough, but when you have turbulent motion such as shock waves, things get even worse. That’s why Zeta Ophiuchi is so important. Since we have such a great view of its shock wave, we can compare our observations with computer simulations.
In this latest study, the team created computer models simulating the shock wave near Zeta Ophiuchi. They then compared these models to observations in infrared, visible, and x-rays. Their goal is to determine which simulations are the most accurate so that the models can be further refined. Of their three models, two of them predicted that the brightest region of x-ray emissions should be at the edge of the shock wave closest to the star, and this is what we observe. But all three models also predicted that x-ray emissions should be fainter than we observe, so none of the models are fully accurate. But these models are difficult to do well, and this work is a good first start.
A simulated shock wave of Zeta Ophiuchi. Credit: Green, et al
The difference in x-ray brightness is likely due to turbulent motion within the shock wave. The team plans on including some of this turbulent motion in future models. Through multiple iterations, they should be able to create a simulation that closely models this interstellar shock wave.
Magnetohydrodynamics is a central part of many astrophysical processes, ranging from solar flares to the formation of planets, to the powerful black hole engines of quasars. Most of these interactions are hidden by distance or dust, so it’s great that Zeta Ophiuchi can give astronomers a shocking view of this complex physics.
On November 8,1978, Mrs. Cathy Wilfong and her sister Mrs. Cindy Bridges viewed a UFO near Greenfield, Indiana.
You could say they had very good proof that they did see something unidentified by the large imprint, about 140 feet long, that was left in their soybean field in the back of their home.
It was around 9:00 PM when Cindy went out to get some firewood, when she noticed a big fiery light coming down towards the soybean field. When she went to investigate what the object was, she became frightened and started screaming for Cathy to come out and look at this thing that was coming down towards the field.
Cathy knew something was wrong when she heard the screaming and her dog, Babe, barking wildly. When she saw the object coming down she couldn't believe it. Although frightened, Cathy ran to the garage to get her camera. When she couldn't find her camera she ran into the house petrified.
At this time Cindy was in the camper watching the object from the inside. She stayed in the camper for an estimated time of 4 minutes. When she noticed Cathy running into the house she decided she had better go into the house too.
After calling the Sheriff's Department, Cathy then called her mother who lives 6 miles away from the Wilfong residence; she came immediately and saw the lights of the UFO as it departed. (She watched these lights as she drove towards their house, and first saw them from 4 to 5 miles away as she approached on state road 209.) The Wilfong's live 8 miles from the Sheriffs office, but it took them at least 30 minutes to get to the house from the time Cathy called.
Upon the Deputy's arrival they informed Cathy that what they had seen was a "helicopter." This so-called "helicopter" made no sound whatsoever, had no propeller so it just naturally threw no propwash, did not have any night flying navigational beacon as required by FAA regulations, and was 120 to 140 feet long.
As described by the witnesses, the UFO was oblong, very, very huge with a kind of greenish-dray color. (See sketch.) It had three lights, one red and two white. The UFO did not have any sound, and it moved flying sideways behind the barn and then took off flying front ways.
Cathy stated, "the thing moved like it was in slow motion. It was very huge with three lights. There was some kind of circle in the middle of the bottom or underneath side. The whole time we watched this object, we could only see the bottom side." The estimated time they viewed the object was 40 minutes.
This UFO incident attracted the attention of the Center for UFO Studies in Evanston, Illinois. They sent out one of their investigators, Allan Hendry, who is the top field investigator for the Center. Hendry stated, "This sighting was one of the two most significant sightings the Center has examined in 1978.
Due to the fact that this sighting was at such a close range by two credible witnesses and also due to the physical evidence the UFO left, which was the impression in their soybean field." Hendry went on to state, "The impression left in the field is similar to 'Saucer Nests' found and reported in Australia and elsewhere in the World, also indicated the UFO never did touch the ground." The stems in the bean field were not uprooted at all, and the stems were intertwined and matted together.
The case also was investigated by MUFON Field Investigator, Arthur Morros of Zionsville, Indiana."
UFOs In Space Recorded During Space Shuttle and Apollo Missions
UFOs In Space Recorded During Space Shuttle and Apollo Missions
Although NASA is commissioning a study team to start early in the fall to examine unidentified aerial phenomena (UAPs) – that is, observations of events in the sky that cannot be identified as aircraft or known natural phenomena as well as NASA wants to transform satellites into alien seekers to probe unexplained sightings in space, it might be better that NASA check their archive first as overwhelming evidence is present on footage from, among others, the Space Shuttle and Apollo Missions showing UFOs in space and above the Lunar surface.
Proof of the existence of UFOs what they have withheld from the public all the years.
During the Space Shuttle flights many recordings were made by the astronauts. Some of these recordings show objects in space that clearly cannot be meteorites, space junk, or lightning storms.
These objects change direction, slow down, make 90 and 180 degree turns before speeding up and disappearing into space. Only UFOs or unknown probes under intelligent control can perform this kind of maneuvers.
Also during the Apollo flights, recordings were made by the astronauts in which UFOs can be seen.
One such example is the footage recorded by the Apollo 11 crew showing a UFO flying just above the moon's surface.
And what about the astronaut who saw a UFO during the Apollo 17 Mission.
Normally NASA astronauts follow a "script" and they know exactly what and when to say.
But during the Apollo 17 mission this astronaut however was too shocked by something he had never seen before. He forgets his "lines" and no longer follows the script. Instead a long and not planned discussion and conversation starts. The astronaut is truly amazed. Unlike his colleague, who seems to be in charge. The astronaut asks what these objects were that flew over his head. Than it becomes hilarious. Flabbergasted, the second astronaut does also not know what to say! This was not planned and not in the script. He is however aware of the fact that they are being watched by NASA officials.
After a short period of silence he says that it was a blast coming from the dial shaped disc of the high gain antenna on the rover (vehicle). More objects start flying over and again we hear genuine excitement. Than the astronaut realizes that he had said something he should not have said in front of the cameras and NASA. He reluctantly accepts the vague explanation. He is really annoyed and you hear sarcasm and disbelief in the undertone of his voice.
NASA tries to save this unpleasant situation and intervenes as CAPCOM confirms that it was a blast from the antenna and that it happened before.
According to the astronaut who clearly is in charge, this blast from the antenna is just "routine".
This is an interesting video. Styrofoam blowing up? This has happened before? When this really would be the case, would they not have taken countermeasures? Space programs are planned with utmost precision and they do not take any risks with equipment and astronauts. So what do you think after having seen the footage? Was it a blast from the antenna? Exploding Styrofoam?
Or is someone not telling us the truth and these two astronauts had a couple "visitors" passing by.
Mysterious flying objects seem to be having their moment in Washington. In January, the Pentagon was tasked with setting up a permanent office to investigate sightings of ‘unidentified aerial phenomena’, commonly known as UFOs. Then in May, Congress held its first public hearing on the subject in over 50 years. This recent shift hasn’t stemmed nearly century-old theories about UFOs landing on Earth and coverups but to some, it’s a sign Disclosure, or complete transparency on everything the government knows about UFOs, might be on the horizon.

Researchers Turn Dead Spiders Into 'Necrobotic' Grippers
See how engineers at Rice University transformed wolf spiders into necrobots.

Grippers made from dead spiders. For some, this might sound like a horror movie. For others, it's a fascinating mashup of robotics and the natural world.
A team of engineers at Rice University worked out how to reanimate (after a fashion) the legs of dead spiders. This isn't a Frankenstein's monster sort of situation. The researchers used a needle and air to activate the spider legs, mimicking how the appendages work in living spiders. Because the spiders are dead and are used in a robotic fashion, the engineers call this "necrobotics."
Mechanical engineering graduate student Faye Yap is the lead author of a paper on the spider project published in the journal Advanced Science this week. "It happens to be the case that the spider, after it's deceased, is the perfect architecture for small scale, naturally derived grippers," said co-author Daniel Preston in a Rice statement on Monday.
It's one thing to read about this project and another to see it in action. Fortunately (or not depending on how you feel about all this), Rice delivered a video that explains the process for creating the necrobots and shows how it works.
When alive, spiders use blood to extend and contract their legs through a hydraulic process. The researchers euthanized wolf spiders, inserted a needle into the chamber of the body that controls the legs, sealed it with glue and then used air to trigger the opening and closing of the legs.
Enlarge ImageThe necrobots are able to grip and hold more than their own weight.
Preston Innovation Laboratory/Rice University
The gripper spiders were able to lift more than their own body weight, including another spider and small objects like parts on a circuit board.
The team sees some advantages to necrobotic spiders. The little grippers can grab irregular objects, blend into their environment and also biodegrade over time. The researchers hope to try this method out with smaller spiders. They also plan to work out how to trigger the legs individually.
As this work advances, I'm looking forward to a new type of Transformers. Necrobots, reach out!

Shocking footage emerged of a chess-playing robot breaking a child's finger during a chess match in Russia
A spokesperson from Russian Chess Federation said the boy violated 'safety rules' by making a move too soon
But other incidents involving robots and humans in the past have had more tragic outcomes
MailOnline delves into the worst robotic accidents in history including a robo-surgeon that killed its patient
Shocking footage emerged at the weekend of a chess-playing robot breaking a child's finger during a match in Russia.
The robot grabbed the seven-year-old boy's finger at the Moscow Open last week because it was confused by his overly-quick movements, Russian media outlets reported.
Sergey Lazarev, vice-president of the Russian Chess Federation, said the child had violated 'certain safety rules' by making a move too soon.
Lazarev said that the machine had been hired for many previous events without any problems, and that the incident was an 'extremely rare case'.
Christopher Atkeson, a robotics expert at Carnegie Mellon University, told MailOnline: 'Robots have limited sensing and thus limited awareness of what is going on around them.
'I suspect the chess robot did not have ears, and that its vision system was blind to anything other than chess boards and pieces.'
Although the young chess player only suffered a broken finger, in other accidents involving robots the injured party has not always been as lucky.
MailOnline has taken a look at some of the disastrous robotic failures, from the robo-surgeon that killed its patient to the driverless car that hit a pedestrian.

CHINESE WORKER SKEWERED - WARNING: GRAPHIC CONTENT
One of the most gruesome robo-accidents involved a 49-year-old Chinese factory worker, known as Zhou, back in December 2018.
Zhou was hit by a rogue robot that collapsed suddenly, impaling him with 10 sharp steel rods in the arm and chest, each one foot long.
The spikes, which were part of the robotic arm, speared through the worker's body when the robot collapsed during a night shift.
Four of them were stuck in his right arm, one in his right shoulder, one in his chest and four in his right forearm, reported People's Daily Online at the time.
Miraculously, Zhou survived after surgeons removed the rods from his body and was in stable condition, according to the Xiangya Hospital in Changsha.

In March 2018, Elaine Herzberg was fatally struck by a prototype self-driving car from ridesharing firm Uber.
Herzberg, 49, was pushing a bicycle across a four-lane road in Tempe, Arizona, when she was struck by the vehicle, which was operating in self-drive mode with a human safety backup driver sitting in the driving seat.
The Uber engineer in the vehicle, Rafaela Vasquez, was watching videos on her phone, according to reports at the time.
Herzberg was taken to the local hospital where she died of her injuries – marking the first recorded case of a pedestrian fatality involving a self-driving car.
This photo from video from a mounted camera provided by the Tempe Police Department shows an interior view moments before the Uber vehicle hit a woman in Tempe, Arizona, in March 2018
Vasquez was later charged with negligent homicide, while Uber was found not criminally responsible for the accident.
The ridesharing giant had been testing self-driving vehicles in four North American cities – Tempe, San Francisco, Pittsburgh and Toronto – but these tests were suspended following the accident.
In 2020, Uber sold off its self-driving car division, spelling an end to its attempts to develop autonomous driving systems.
BOTCHED ROBO-SURGERY
In February 2015, father-of-three and retired music teacher Stephen Pettitt underwent robotic surgery for Mitral valve disease at the Freeman Hospital, Newcastle upon Tyne.
The operation was conducted by surgeon Sukumaran Nair using the Da Vinci surgical robot, which consists of a surgeon's console and interactive robotic arms controlled from the console.
Details of the botched six-hour procedure include the surgical team, Mr Nair and assisting surgeon Thasee Pillay, shouting at one another.
The operation using the Da Vinci robot (file image) was the first of its kind conducted in the UK
Communication was difficult because of the 'tinny' sound quality coming from the robot console being operated by Nair, it was revealed.
The machine also knocked a theatre nurse and destroyed the patient's stitches, Newcastle Coroner's Court later heard.
Mr Nair, who trained in India and London and previously worked at Papworth Hospital in Cambridgeshire, said he now works in Scotland and no longer does robotic surgery.
Sadly, Mr Pettitt had a 98 to 99 per cent chance of living had the operation not been carried out using a robot.
VW WORKER CRUSHED
In June 2015, a 22-year-old man was killed by a robotic arm at a Volkswagen plant in Baunatal, Germany.
The robotic arm intended to lift machine parts but reportedly grabbed him and crushed him against a large metal plate.
The man suffered severe injuries to his chest in the incident and resuscitated at the scene, but died from his injuries in hospital.
A Volkswagen spokesman said initial conclusions indicated human error was to blame rather than a malfunction with the robot, which can be programmed to perform various tasks in the assembly process.

JAPAN'S FIRST ROBO-CASUALTY
In July 1981, Japanese maintenance worker Kenji Urada died while checking a malfunctioning hydraulic robot at the Kawasaki Heavy Industries plant in Akashi.
Urada, 37, had jumped over a safety barrier that was designed to shut down power to the machine when open, but he reportedly started the robot accidentally.
He was pinned by the robot's arm against another machine before tragically being crushed to death.
Other workers in the factory were unable to stop the machine as they didn't know how to operate it.
Urada was the first human killed by a robot in Japan – but not the first in the world.
THE FIRST ROBOT DEATH
The first person to be killed by a robot was Robert Williams, an American factory worker, in Flat Rock, Michigan back in January 1979.
Williams, 25, was killed instantly when he was struck in the head by an industrial robot arm designed to retrieve objects from storage shelves.
The first person to be killed by a robot was Robert Williams while working at the Ford Motor Company Flat Rock Casting Plant (pictured here in 1973)
His body remained in the shelf for 30 minutes until it was discovered by workers who were concerned about his disappearance, according to reports.
His family successfully sued the manufacturers of the robot, Litton Industries, and were awarded $10 million in damages.
Wayne County Circuit Court concluded that there were not enough safety measures in place to prevent such an accident from happening.
SELF-DRIVING TESLA SLAMS INTO TRACTOR
A former Navy SEAL became the first person to die at the wheel of a self-driving car after it ploughed into a tractor trailer on a freeway in Williston, Florida, in May 2016.
Joshua Brown, 40, was riding in his computer-guided Tesla Model S on autopilot mode when it travelled underneath the low-hanging trailer crossing his path on US Highway 27A, shearing off the car's roof completely.
By the time firefighters arrived, the wreckage of the Tesla had come to rest in a nearby yard hundreds of feet from the crash site, assistant chief Danny Wallace of the Williston Fire Department said.
Tesla said its autopilot system failed to detect the truck because its white colour was similar to that of the bright sky, adding that the driver also made no attempt to hit the brakes.
Elon Musk's company confirmed the man's 'tragic' death, but defended its vehicles, saying they were safer than other cars.

CRUSHED BY A ROBOT ARM
On July 7 2015, a grandmother was crushed to death when she became trapped by a piece of machinery that should not have entered into the area in which she was working.
Wanda Holbrook was 57 at the time of the incident, and had been working at car manufacturing facility Ventra Ionia Main in Michigan, USA for 12 years.
She was working on the production line when a robotic arm took her by surprise by entering the section in which she was stationed.
The arm hit and crushed her head against a trailer hitch assembly it was working on, a wrongful death lawsuit states.
According to The Callahan Law Firm, widower Bill Holbrook said his wife's head injuries were so severe that the funeral home recommended a closed casket.

STABBED BY WELDING ROBOT
The first person killed by a robot in India is thought to be 24-year-old Ramji Lal, who was stabbed to death by a robotic welding machine, also in July 2015.
Lal was reportedly adjusting a metal sheet at car parts manufacturer SKH Metals in Manesar, Gurgaon that was being welded by the machine when he was stabbed by one of its arms.
A colleague told the Times of India: 'The robot is pre-programmed to weld metal sheets it lifts.
'One such sheet got dislodged and Lal reached from behind the machine to adjust it.
'This was when welding sticks attached to the pre-programmed device pierced Lal's abdomen.'

AMAZON ROBOT PUNCTURES BEAR REPELLENT CAN
In 2018, a robot accidentally punctured a can of bear repellent at an Amazon warehouse in New Jersey, hospitalising 24 workers.
The nine-ounce aerosol can contained concentrated capsaicin - the active component found in chilli peppers that makes your mouth feel hot.
Many of the workers experienced trouble breathing and said their throats and eyes burned as a result of the fumes from the pepper spray.
One worker from the Robbinsville-based warehouse was in critical condition and was sent to the ICU at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital, while another 30 were treated at the scene.
Stuart Appelbaum, president of the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union, issued a statement after the incident saying: 'Amazon's automated robots put humans in life-threatening danger today, the effects of which could be catastrophic and the long-term effects for 80+ workers are unknown,
'The richest company in the world cannot continue to be let off the hook for putting hard working people's lives at risk.'

Josh Bongard, a robotics professor at the University of Vermont, told MailOnline: 'Robots are kind of the opposite of people. They're good at things we’re bad at, and vice versa.
'The good news in all this is that robots will likely kill many fewer people, than people do. Especially here in the US.'
Professor Bongard also said it's 'really, really hard' to train robots to avoid such accidents.
'Our best hope at the moment for deploying safe robots is to put them in places where there are few people, like autonomous cars restricted to special lanes on highways.'
WHY ARE PEOPLE SO WORRIED ABOUT ROBOTS AND AI?
It is an issue troubling some of the greatest minds in the world at the moment, from Bill Gates to Elon Musk.
SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk described AI as our 'biggest existential threat' and likened its development as 'summoning the demon'.
He believes super intelligent machines could use humans as pets.
Professor Stephen Hawking said it is a 'near certainty' that a major technological disaster will threaten humanity in the next 1,000 to 10,000 years.
They could steal jobs
More than 60 percent of people fear that robots will lead to there being fewer jobs in the next ten years, according to a 2016 YouGov survey.
And 27 percent predict that it will decrease the number of jobs 'a lot' with previous research suggesting admin and service sector workers will be the hardest hit.
As well as posing a threat to our jobs, other experts believe AI could 'go rogue' and become too complex for scientists to understand.
A quarter of the respondents predicted robots will become part of everyday life in just 11 to 20 years, with 18 percent predicting this will happen within the next decade.
They could 'go rogue'
Computer scientist Professor Michael Wooldridge said AI machines could become so intricate that engineers don't fully understand how they work.
If experts don't understand how AI algorithms function, they won't be able to predict when they fail.
This means driverless cars or intelligent robots could make unpredictable 'out of character' decisions during critical moments, which could put people in danger.
For instance, the AI behind a driverless car could choose to swerve into pedestrians or crash into barriers instead of deciding to drive sensibly.
They could wipe out humanity
Some people believe AI will wipe out humans completely.
'Eventually, I think human extinction will probably occur, and technology will likely play a part in this,' DeepMind's Shane Legg said in a recent interview.
He singled out artificial intelligence, or AI, as the 'number one risk for this century'.
Musk warned that AI poses more of a threat to humanity than North Korea.
'If you're not concerned about AI safety, you should be. Vastly more risk than North Korea,' the 46-year-old wrote on Twitter.
'Nobody likes being regulated, but everything (cars, planes, food, drugs, etc) that's a danger to the public is regulated. AI should be too.'
Musk has consistently advocated for governments and private institutions to apply regulations on AI technology.
He has argued that controls are necessary in order protect machines from advancing out of human control.
When chess robots go bad: AI player grabs a seven-year-old boy and BREAKS his finger during tournament in Russia
A chess-playing robot broke a child's finger during a tournament in Russia last week, with the incident being captured in CCTV footage.
The robot grabbed the seven-year-old boy's finger because it was confused by his overly-quick movements, Russian media outlets reported, quoting the President of the Moscow Chess Federation - who seemingly blamed the child.
'The robot broke the child's finger - this, of course, is bad,' Sergey Lazarev told Russia's TASS news agency, while distancing his organisation from the robot.
The incident occurred at the Moscow Open on July 19. Lazarev said that the federation had rented the robot for the event, which ran from July 13 to 21.
Lazarev said that the machine had been hired for many previous events without incident, saying the boy went to move a piece too quickly after making a move.
A chess-playing robot (pictured) broke a child's finger during an international tournament in Moscow last week, with the incident being captured in CCTV footage
Captured by a camera over the boy's shoulder, the video starts by showing the robot as it picks up a piece from the board and drops it into a box to the side - used to contain the discarded pieces from the game
'The robot was rented by us, it has been exhibited in many places, for a long time, with specialists. Apparently, the operators overlooked it,' Lazarev said.
'The child made a move, and after that we need to give time for the robot to answer, but the boy hurried , the robot grabbed him. We have nothing to do with the robot.'
Video of the incident was published by the Baza Telegram channel, who said the boy's name was Christopher. Baza said he was among the 30 best chess players in Moscow in the under-nine age group category.
According to The Guardian, Sergey Smagin, vice-president of the Russian Chess Federation, went even further in blaming the boy.
'There are certain safety rules and the child, apparently, violated them. When he made his move, he did not realise he first had to wait,' The Guardian quoted Smagin as saying. 'This is an extremely rare case, the first I can recall.'
The footage shows the robot - which consists of a single mechanical arm with multiple joints and a 'hand' - was in the middle of a table and surrounded by three different chess boards. It's AI can reportedly play three matches at the same time.
Captured by a camera over the boy's shoulder, the video starts by showing the robot as it picks up a piece from the board and drops it into a box to the side - used to contain the discarded pieces from the game.
As it does so, the young boy reaches to make his next move. However, the robot appears to mistake the boy's finger for a chess piece, and grabs that instead.
Upon grabbing the boy's finger, the mechanical arms freezes in place, trapping the boy who begins to panic. Several people standing around the table rush in to help him, and after a few seconds are able to free him from the robot's grip

Lazarev said in his statement that the boy was able to return to the tournament the following day in a case, and finished the tournament.
However, he told TASS that the boy's parents had contacted the public prosecutor's office about the incident, and that his organisation had been contacted by Moskomsport - the Department of Sport for the Russian capital.
He offered to help the family 'in any way we can,' and warned that the operators of the robot were going to have to 'think about strengthening protection so that this situation does not happen again.'
Smagin told RIA Novosti that the incident was a 'concidence' and said the robot is 'absolutely safe,' The Guardian reported.
'It has performed at many opens. Apparently, children need to be warned. It happens,' Smagin said - calling the robot 'unique'.

GETTY
NASA is sending two helicopters to Mars—but no new rover—as part of a historic round-trip from Earth to Mars and back again to go collect rock samples.
In the 17 months since it landed on Mars the Perseverance rover has collected 11 scientifically compelling rock core samples and one atmospheric sample.
Once back on Earth they will help scientists establish a geological record crucial in understanding Mars’s environmental evolution and possibly its prebiotic chemistry and biology.
In short, it may reveal traces of ancient life.
Buoyed by the incredible success of its little Ingenuity drone that’s now completed a staggering 29 flights, NASA said today that it will begin its much-anticipated Mars Sample Return (MSR) mission in 2027 with the first-ever samples of rocks from an alien planet due back on Earth in 2033.
NASA revealed that it will launch an Earth Return Orbiter in fall 2027, a Sample Retrieval Lander in summer 2028, and that those samples would arrive back on Earth in 2033.
The new mission architecture reveals a few exciting design changes.

NASA/JPL-CALTECH
The Sample Retrieval Lander platform will carry two “sample recovery helicopters,” which will go help Perseverance collect the samples the rover itself has been busy assembling.
By then Perseverance will have been on the Martian surface for almost a decade. The old plan had been to send an all-new rover.
On the Sample Retrieval Lander platform will also be a small rocket called the Mars Ascent Vehicle. The new plan is for Perseverance to return to the platform and place sealed sample tubes into a container in the nose cone of the rocket. To do that it will use a Sample Transfer Arm being built by the European Space Agency (ESA).
The Mars Ascent Vehicle will then launch to meet-up with the Earth Return Orbiter high above the Martian surface.
The Earth Return Orbiter would be the first spaceship ever to go from Earth to Mars—or any planet—and then back to Earth again.
The use of both Perseverance and two new helicopters for this mission is a big change of plan by NASA.
“The conceptual design phase is when every facet of a mission plan gets put under a microscope,” said Thomas Zurbuchen, associate administrator for science at NASA Headquarters in Washington. “There are some significant and advantageous changes to the plan, which can be directly attributed to Perseverance’s recent successes at Jezero and the amazing performance of our Mars helicopter.”

NASA/ESA/JPL-CALTECH
The mission, which will go collect the samples left strewn across Jezero Crater by NASA’s Perseverance rover, was recently given the green light by the Decadal Survey.
In its report it recommended that the MSR was of “the highest scientific priority of NASA’s robotic exploration efforts this decade” and of “fundamental strategic importance to NASA, U.S. leadership in planetary science, and international cooperation.”
However, that report also said MSR shouldn’t cost more than 20% more than the $5.3 billion allotted to it. This new plan—which cuts the need for a brand new rover—could help keep costs as low as possible, though it does require a lot of confidence in Perseverance’s longevity.
Roswell conspiracies still thriving after 75 years from Nazi UFOs to burned alien bodies
Roswell conspiracies still thriving after 75 years from Nazi UFOs to burned alien bodies
Decades after the 1947 incident some believe it was proof that aliens landed on Earth, while others insist the bizarre wreckage was that of a Nazi-built spaceship
Surprisingly, the US Army got involved and sent out a press release saying they had recovered a "flying disc".
The Roswell Army Air Field (RAAF) said: "The many rumors regarding the flying disc became a reality yesterday when the intelligence office of the 509th Bomb Group of the Eighth Air Force, Roswell Army Air Field, was fortunate enough to gain possession of a disc through the cooperation of one of the local ranchers and the sheriff's office of Chaves County."
Debris found on a ranch has led to years of alien speculation

RAAF quickly changed their story to state that the wreckage was from a weather balloon.
UFO enthusiasts have been sceptical of the official government account ever since and some believe the wreckage belonged to a UFO that was downed by lightning. Of course, it was no surprise the aliens were in the local area, say the conspiracy theorists, due to ET's reasonable concerns about US nuclear activity.
Other members of the tin foil brigade believe the UFO was firmly of Nazi origin, built by the German scientists shipped to the US to work on the atomic bomb. According to the theorists, the UFO built by the Roswell Nazis was not great for flying and promptly crashed.
Local news didn't exactly help with calming speculation as the Roswell Daily Record reported "RAAF Captures Flying Saucer on Ranch in Roswell Region".

In an effort to push away the conspiracies, it was revealed in 1994 that the wreckage was part of 'Project Mogul', an attempt to detect Soviet nuclear bomb tests. Those convinced of a government cover-up are unlikely to buy this version of events.
In 1980, reports of 'alien bodies' emerged and were not debunked until a US Air Force report in 1997 titled 'The Roswell Report: Case Closed'. They said the bodies were likely to be parachute dummies, an injured airman or charred bodies from a plane crash.
The wreckage was found on Brazel's property around 75 miles north of Roswell, but it is the city itself that now owes a large portion of its local income to alien-friendly tourists.
It is now home to a yearly UFO festival and the International UFO Museum and Research Centre.
An amateur photographer, Dr. Mohamed Salama, has caused a bit of a stir over in the UK after sharing a 38 second long video he took in which he believes he recorded a UFO.
Salama captured the footage above his home in the Birmingham suburb of Harborne one night as he was taking out the trash.
The doctor says the object in the night sky was “not a plane, star, drone or laser” due to how quickly it moved and changed direction.
“I’m a photographer, so I do usually look at the sky to see if there’s something interesting – the sky or the moon – to take a photo,” Dr. Salama told BirminghamLive.
“I then saw this UFO in the sky. It was very fast. It wasn’t going in a straight line. It was rotating, so I pointed my Samsung camera phone up to take the footage.”
The doctor who took the UFO video says he ‘never thought’ he would ‘see something like this’
He continued, “I saw a UFO flying very quickly in different directions over Harborne sky. It was very high in the sky, above the clouds.
“It changed its direction very quickly and traveled on the horizon in seconds. I have never seen something like this before. It definitely was not a plane, star, drone or laser.”
“I have never believed in UFOs until yesterday,” said the doctor. “This was extremely strange and my first time seeing something like this.”
He compared his UFO sighting to another recent incident in West Bromwich where multiple residents reportedly kept seeing a bright white light in the sky.
In that video, a 37 second clip, the light, which area resident Longie Willow says was not a star, the ball of sphere was spotted heading towards All Saints church in West Bromwich which dates back to the 1400s.
“Twice now we have seen this in the sky,” Willow told BlackCountryLive. “It’s not a star and seems to have something trailing behind it has been seen hovering over West Bromwich going towards the old church, on All Saints Way.”
Though the Pentagon has changed the name and scope of the new organization tasked with overseeing U.S. government's growing efforts to track unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP), the head of the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), who is actually the guy in charge of defending America's airspace, says it has been business as usual when it comes to his command's mission.
"I have not changed or been asked to change any of my posture, taskings or anything," Air Force Gen. Glen D. VanHerck, the dual-hatted commander of both NORAD and U.S. Northern Command (NORAD), told reporters Thursday during a roundtable discussion at the Aspen Security Forum.
Asked by Washington Post reporter Shane Harris about whether there have been any changes "in terms of homeland protection" as a result of more attention being paid to unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP) - as the Pentagon now refers to what was known as unidentified flying objects (UFO) - VanHerck said "no." The answer may seem disconnected considering the efforts the Pentagon claims are being made to take the issue seriously and to mitigate any potential risks to national security presented by UAP. Then again, the Air Force has been notoriously unforthcoming when it comes to this controversial topic.
VanHerck goes a step further, stating "First of all, let's be clear. My job as the NORAD commander is to identify every single UAP or ...whatever it is," VanHerck said. "What I would report to you is I've yet to find one that had aliens or was a spaceship that we've identified."

"If any of our NORAD fighters or, or any assets assigned to NORTHCOM, came across some type of UAP, we would absolutely report that," he said. "I'm just telling you, we haven't seen that."
VanHerck was questioned on the issue after the Pentagon this week changed the name of its organization tasked with tracking UAPs from the unwieldy Airborne Object Identification and Management Group (AOIMSG) to the more streamlined All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO).
More than just an update in nomenclature, the move reflects a long-known reality. Airborne objects aren’t the only ones that are unidentified, but more importantly, potentially pose a threat to U.S. military installations and personnel.
In its announcement on Wednesday, the Pentagon noted that Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks, in coordination with the Director of National Intelligence (DNI), “amended her original direction to the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence & Security” by renaming and expanding the scope of AOIMSG.
That was because the enactment of the National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal 2022, which included a provision to establish such an office - in coordination with DNI - was tasked with responsibilities that were broader than those originally assigned to the AOIMSG.
Essentially, that legislation calls for a much larger-scope effort to examine these phenomena than what Hicks initially called for in her memo last November.
Pentagon spokeswoman Sue Gough told The War Zone Thursday that "the genesis of the establishment of AOIMSG came from internal DoD processes subsequent to assisting [the Office of the Director of National Intelligence] with the preparation of its assessment report on UAP."
As mandated by a provision in the 2021 Intelligence Authorization Act, DNI - in consultation with the Defense Department (DOD) - submitted a report to Congress on UAP last June. That same day, Hicks sent out a memo to DoD leaders on the state of UAP assessments. In that memo, she directed the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence & Security (OUSD(I&S)) "to develop a plan to formalize the mission that was then being performed by the UAP Task Force."
Hicks' November 2021 memo directing the establishment of the AOIMSG and AOIMEXEC "was a direct result of that planning effort," Gough said.
While much of the initial attention in recent years has been paid to aerial objects of unknown origin, what the Pentagon now refers to as UAP, mysterious underwater objects or anomalies have been tracked by submariners, as we explained three years ago. The UFO topic, as it exists culturally, has long been intertwined with sightings of so-called USOs — unidentified submerged objects. Claims of sightings of objects that can traverse air and water continue to this day and are a major component of 'ufology.'
AARO’s mission will be to “synchronize efforts” across the Defense Department (DOD), and other U.S. federal departments and agencies, “to detect, identify and attribute objects of interest in, on or near military installations, operating areas, training areas, special use airspace and other areas of interest, and, as necessary, to mitigate any associated threats to safety of operations and national security. This includes anomalous, unidentified space, airborne, submerged and transmedium objects.”
The issue of the U.S. military tracking transmedium objects is not new. It was included in the 2022 NDAA, which defines transmedium objects as “objects or devices that are observed to transition between space and the atmosphere, or between the atmosphere and bodies of water, that are not immediately identifiable.”
The new organization will be led by what the Pentagon now calls the AARO Executive Council, or (AAROEXEC).
The AARO Executive Council (AAROEXEC), led by Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence & Security (USD(I&S)) Ronald Moultrie, will provide "oversight and direction" to the AARO along these primary lines of effort:
1. Surveillance, Collection and Reporting 2. System Capabilities and Design 3. Intelligence Operations and Analysis 4. Mitigation and Defeat 5. Governance 6. Science and Technology
According to the latest Hicks memo on the subject, dated July 15, AARO “will serve as the authoritative office of the Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP) and UAP-related activities for the DoD.”
It will be DOD’s “focal point for all UAP and UAP-related activities” and may represent it to other federal agencies, Congress, the media, and the public, in coordination with the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Legislative Affairs and Assistant to the Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs.
AARO will be directly managed by Sean Kirkpatrick, whose most recent assignment was as Chief Scientist at DIA’s Missile and Space Intelligence Center.

The issue of unidentified phenomena, whatever medium they exist in, has taken on greater public interest in recent years. In May of this year, Congress held its first UFO hearing in over 50 years. Earlier this month, we told you about an effort by Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-Wisc) to give greater protections to those who have information about such things.
His proposed amendment to the Fiscal Year 2023 National Defense Authorization Act was created to "establish a process within the government for reporting UAPs and provide whistleblower-like protections,” Gallagher’s spokesman Jordan Dunn told The War Zone at the time.
The House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI) has also taken a recent interest in this issue.
In its Intelligence Authorization Act (IAA) approved Wednesday, HPCSI required GAO historical study of IC [intelligence community] UAP activity, including a clause not seen in the Senate version: "efforts to recover or transfer related technologies to United States-based industry or National Laboratories."
In addition, the IAA also includes provisions introduced by Gallagher "including...a GAO review of US government records relating to the intelligence community's involvement with [UAP], including any efforts to track, identify, recover, transfer, or obfuscate [UAP]."
So yes, we are talking about investigating the military contractors for hiding parts of crashed craft and investigating the intelligence community for hiding major revelations about UFOs.
This is clearly uncharted territory.
Now that the Pentagon has given a new name to the office that will be its focal point for all UAP-related phenomena, wherever it is observed, it will be interesting to see what, if anything, AARO actually does.
A trove of newly released NASA documents about unidentified aerial phenomena (UAPs) reveals some of the agency’s internal discussions about these mysterious sightings, according to the Black Vault, which obtained the materials via a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request and published them on Tuesday.
The documents showed that a meeting about a UAP—which are also sometimes referred to as unidentified flying objects (UFOs)—was put on NASA administrator Bill Nelson’s calendar in March. An email sent in May 2021, and marked “Internal Distribution Only,” provided guidelines for responding to interview questions on a range of topics associated with space research, including a subsection entitled, “Search for Life, Technosignatures, and UAP/UFOs.”
“Public and media interest in the topic of Unidentified Aerial Phenomenon/Unidentified Flying Objects (UAP/UFOs) has seen an uptick in recent weeks following reports about the Department of Defense’s release of three unclassified Navy videos,” the NASA guidelines said. “Likewise, the 2021 Intelligence Authorization Act, signed in December 2020, stipulated the government had 180 days to gather and analyze data from disparate agencies.”
“Below is our response to the public and media who call for NASA comment,” the materials continued. “One of NASA’s key goals is the search for life in the universe. To date, NASA has yet to find any credible evidence of extraterrestrial life, however, NASA is exploring the solar system and beyond to help us answer fundamental questions, including whether we are alone in the universe. We stand ready to support the rest of the government in the search for life in the universe, be it close to home, on the planets or moons of our solar system, or deeper into space.”
The new FOIA drop also contains an invite to a virtual event entitled “Extreme Acceleration by UAPs,” scheduled for October 6, 2020, that was forwarded between NASA employees. The invite said the presentation would be delivered by Robert Powell, Executive Board member of the Scientific Coalition for UAP Studies (SCU), with an introduction from Chris Mellon, former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Intelligence.
“During our session, Robert will be discussing ‘Extreme Acceleration by UAPs and Sensors for Detection,’” according to the invite. “He will also be exploring a few relevant cases, including Stephenville and Puerto Rico. Robert has been an important leader, for some years now, among those seeking to bring serious scientific expertise and processes to bear on the UAP phenomenon.”
Though it’s intriguing to read through these documents, it’s not surprising that NASA discusses UAPs internally, given that the agency has also held public briefings on these unexplained observations on many occasions. Last month, for instance, NASA officials held a teleconference on new work that aims to “examine UAPs—observations of events in the sky that cannot be identified as aircraft or known natural phenomena—from a scientific perspective,” according to a statement.
“Unidentified phenomena in the atmosphere are of interest for both national security and air safety. Establishing which events are natural provides a key first step to identifying or mitigating such phenomena, which aligns with one of NASA’s goals to ensure the safety of aircraft,” the statement read. “There is no evidence UAPs are extraterrestrial in origin.”

The US space agency Nasa is looking into repurposing satellites that are already in space to hunt for aliens. Last month, Nasa announced it was launching an eight-month inquiry to investigate hundreds of unexplained UFO sightings.
The inquiry is being led by Dr Thomas Zurbuchen, of Nasa’s Science Mission Directorate, who has now begun investigating whether satellites in orbit could be repurposed to give another view on strange aerial phenomena reported from Earth.
Speaking to journalists in London last week, Col Pam Melroy, deputy administrator of Nasa, said: “One of the big questions Thomas asked is, ‘We have a ton of satellites looking down at the Earth; are any of them useful?’
“Before you build a rover that’s going to Mars, you ask yourself, ‘What’s the sensor I have to build to detect the most interesting thing?’ How would you get the evidence that you need to be able to determine if it’s an optical phenomena or some other kind (of phenomena)?”
Bill Nelson, Nasa’s administrator, told reporters that he had read all the classified documents relating to UFOs and was convinced that nobody knew what they were.
Asked why Nasa was embarking on such a fringe subject, Nelson said one of the agency’s remits was to hunt for life outside Earth. He pointed out that in the past, even the greatest scientists had been disbelieved or ridiculed, including Galileo — condemned in the 17th century for saying the Earth revolved around the Sun— and Edwin Hubble, who in the 1920s proved many objects thought to be clouds of dust and gas were galaxies.
“One of our missions is to reach out to see if there is life — that’s why we are digging on Mars right now,” he said. “Is there the possibility of life in something as big as the Universe? Of course there is the chance that, in somewhere as big as that, conditions similar to Earth existed, and some other kind of life form developed.
“Look at what Galileo had to face... and 100 years ago we still only thought there was one galaxy, and then Hubble came along and suddenly said, ‘No there are a bunch of galaxies out there’.”
Last June, the Pentagon’s Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force (UAP) released a report into 144 UFO incidents between 2004 and 2021, many of which were spotted by military pilots. Even though investigators concluded there was no evidence that the objects came from outer space or a foreign adversary, they said most could not be explained.
The report authors said there was no doubt that the UAPs were physical objects, rather than optical illusions caused by atmospheric conditions or sensor malfunctions.
“I went to our chief scientist and said... we’re the scientific research agency and one of our missions is to look for life... there’s this phenomenon going on, so we should approach it from a scientific point of view,” said Mr Nelson.
Last year, US Navy pilot Lt Cmdr Alex Dietrich revealed she had seen multiple UFOs while she was stationed off the coast of southern California on the USS Nimitz aircraft carrier in 2004. They moved impossibly fast, she said, dropping a distance of 80,000ft in less than a second and jumping dozens of miles in seconds, in an incident caught on infrared camera and radar.
According to reports, Cmdr David Fravor, also stationed on the USS Nimitz, engaged one of the oblong objects, which disappeared, only to be picked up seconds later on ship radar 60 miles away.
Mr Nelson said he hoped the objects did not belong to an adversary as “they’ve got some real advanced technology”.

A file covering 14 years' worth of UFO sightings made by commercial airline pilots was obtained by UFO researcher Kyle Warfel using a Freedom of Information request
Dozens of astonishing UFO sightings witnessed by pilots and classified as "near misses" have been released by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The detailed list of reports covers UFO or so-called Unidentified Aerial Phenomenon (UAP) sightings from January 1, 2008 to the present.
The list, published on the Black Vault site, covers more than 60 “near miss” encounters with unexplained objects recorded by trained pilots in just 14 years.
Some of the unidentified objects appear to have been drones that were being flown irresponsible users, but others defy any rational explanation.

One, reported in July 2020, was a “very large, Frisbee or cigar shaped object that had no tail or ailerons moving very fast and low level”.
The mystery object was “a silver, white colour, almost transparent and it made no sound”.
Another unexplained “star-like” object was observed by an airline pilot to rapidly change altitudes before suddenly going into a hover.

Not all pilots choose to report potential UFO sighting, for fear of harming their reputations. After a mysterious “line of lights” in the sky was sighted by multiple witnesses in Arizona in 2013, a pilot contacted by radar operators confirmed that he could see the objects but declined to make a report to the UFO hotline.
In some cases the mystery objects appear to chase the airliners.

Researcher Kyle Warfel, whose FOIA request led to the release of the sightings, said: “There are hundreds of thousands of UAP sightings every year around the globe and hundreds of thousands more that go unreported.
He’s convinced that the US government knows exactly what these objects are, but for some reason has chosen to keep that information secret.
“We have the ability to see license plates from orbit and yet we don’t have enough data to make a conclusion on what these things are?” He asked. “Bottom line, we cannot be trusted with the truth.”
