More than 26 years later, mystery of Phoenix Lights still fascinates people
More than 26 years later, mystery of Phoenix Lights still fascinates people
(Screenshot)
PHOENIX — Wednesday,on March 13 marks the 26nd anniversary of one of the strangest things to ever happen in Arizona, the Phoenix Lights phenomenon.
Those who witnessed the bizarre lights described them as “otherworldly” and the phenomena is remembered fondly each year since it — whatever it was — was spotted.
According to the Mutual UFO Network, on March 13, 1997 between 7:30 and 10:30 p.m., thousands of people reported seeing strange, bright lights flying over Nevada, Arizona and part of Mexico.
“It wasn’t just one event, there were many events across the state for more than 12 hours,” Phoenix Lights Network spokeswoman Lynne Kitei said.
The first event was described as a V-shaped object the size of a commercial plane soaring through the sky.
One witness from Prescott who wished to be known only as J.R. said he watched a boomerang-shaped object glide over Granite Mountain, and it was at least a mile wide. He said there’s no way it was from this planet.
“We don’t have anything that big,” he said. “It was totally silent. I’ve never seen anything even close to the colors from the exhaust that propelled that thing. It was as big as downtown Prescott and completely blocked out the stars.”
The second event was reported by an unidentified former Arizona police officer who claimed he saw a series of stationary, orange and red lights hanging over the Valley.
The Phoenix Lights were treated as a joke at first by then-Gov. Fife Symington, who had an aide dress as an alien for a press conference about the phenomenon.
“This just goes to show that you guys are entirely too serious,” Symington said then.
However, Symington later did a complete 180 and not only said he saw the lights himself, but believed them to be of otherworldly origin.
“I’m a pilot, and I know just about every machine that flies,” Symington said. “It was bigger than anything that I’ve ever seen. It remains a great mystery. Other people saw it, responsible people. I don’t know why people would ridicule it.”
The orange and red lights were later explained away as flares dropped by military aircraft during a training exercise at the Barry Goldwater Range. However, the V-shaped object remains unexplained.
The Phoenix Lights have captured the imaginations of millions over the past two decades, including some people in Hollywood. The phenomenon was a key plot point of a found-footage horror film, “Phoenix Forgotten,” which was released last year.
The film told the story of Sarah Bishop, a documentary filmmaker who returned to Phoenix 20 years after her brother disappeared investigating the Phoenix Lights.
In the movie, Bishop came across a video recorded by her brother and two others about their experiences investigating the lights. The found-footage style of film was first popularized by the cult hit “Blair Witch Project.”
The event was also the focus of both a book and a documentary. The latter will be screened Sunday at the Harkins Theaters near Scottsdale Road and Shea Boulevard.
But those are not the only ties between the UFO and the silver screen. Actor Kurt Russell claimed he was the pilot that reported the phenomena.
“I was flying [my son] to go see his girlfriend, and we’re on approach, and I saw six lights over the airport — absolutely uniform — in a V-shape,” he said in a BBC interview last year.
UFO sightings are fairly common in the Phoenix area. There are reports of strange lights in the desert sky multiple times each year.
According to a 2014 Washington Post article, Arizona has the highest number of UFO sightings per capita in the country.
KTAR’s Jim Cross and Taylor Kinnerup and the Associated Press contributed to this report.

David Grusch Former Intelligence Official Says U.S. Has Retrieved Craft of Non-Human Origin
David Charles Grusch, a whistleblower who previously served as an intelligence official and a veteran of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) has provided Congress and the Intelligence Community Inspector General with highly classified information. According to Grusch, this information pertains to covert programs that have successfully obtained both fully intact and partially intact non-human aircraft.
Journalists Leslie Kean and Ralph Blumenthal explain how this breaking news story came to light.
The UAP phenomenon is not only bound to the United States. It is a worldwide mystery, and Luis Elizondo, a former AATIP Director was in Rome to collect more information on the UFOs as military personnel within the Italian government seem to possess in-depth knowledge about the matter. It turns out that the Italian military has found a way to communicate with the unidentified aerial phenomenon (UAP), using a radio beacon with a particular frequency.
Could there be any connection between UAP sightings in Italy and the United States? Journalist Christopher Sharp noted that a mysterious UFO that crashed in Italy in the 1930s, including the bodies of its occupants, somehow got into the possession of the United States military and was brought to the USA after World War II ended and remained here.
Pertaining to this, there are two accounts of alleged recovered bodies (not human in nature). One is mentioned by UAP researcher Leonard Stringfield, who told the story of the French biologist in his 1982 book, entitled “UFO Crash/Retrievals: Amassing the Evidence: Status Report III.” And the other one comes from Bill Brophy, who said his father, a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Air Force, had allegedly seen the bodies.
It is believed that the bodies were recovered from the UFO crash that occurred long before the Roswell incident. Mr. Sharp writes that they were reportedly found in 1933, after a strange craft crashed in Lombardy, Italy. The crash happened when Italy was under the rule of Fascist Benito Mussolini.
The claims of the UFO coverup directly come from the documents released from Mussolini’s office. According to them, Mussolini took all measures to silence the witnesses and classified the craft as top secret. Studying the craft was Mussolini’s next top objective. The best engineers and scientists in Italy came together to form a top-secret organization that was allegedly commanded by radio inventor and renowned engineer Guglielmo Marconi.
At first, nobody – not even Mussolini – had a strong conviction that the object was extraterrestrial in origin. The most common misconception was that it was German. Because of their blonde hair and blue eyes, the victims that were found resembled Germans quite a bit. However, according to the documents, Italian consistently referred to the craft’s origin as “unknown,” implying that nothing definitive could ever be proven.
Later, somehow the information of the retrieved unknown craft was confided with Pope Pius XII by Mussolini himself as they both were in good relations. But after Mussolini became an ally with Adolf Hitler’s Third Reich, Pope became uneasy about the craft and somehow leaked to the US from the Vatican. After the war, the craft was allegedly brought to the USA, where it supposedly remains today.

In an interview with Max Moszkowicz, Lue Elizondo gave this rumor some credit by saying he had seen documents from Mussolini’s office that he had found “compelling” before theorizing (as per the rumor) that pieces of the craft had been transported to the USA. Mr. Sharp claimed that he has a source in the aerospace industry who told Liberation Times that something was recovered from Italy following World War II.
“I don’t see the Italian 1933 craft as a typical UAP like we have documented in many other UFO sightings. It was not powered by gravity manipulation or inter-dimensional technology. I think this was a vehicle powered by jet engines and rockets and shaped like a flying wing, like the designs of the Horten brothers. It was meant to be reverse-engineered by the Axis powers to gain a technical advantage. What reason would an NHI have for gifting such technology to the Axis? Your guess is as good as mine, but it was not for benign purposes.”
“What happened to this craft? My guess is it was taken by the Americans since we got there before the Soviets. Or it could have been destroyed. It certainly would have helped with our rapid advances in rocketry, jet technology, and our newfound interest in flying wings such as the YB-35 and the YB-49, eventually leading to the B-2.”
USAF Reports: Ohio Air Force Base Stored Three Crashed UFOs & Bodies Of Their Pilots
It is rumored that Hangar 18 at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base is holding a tremendous amount of UFO material and alien bodies. Retired US Air Force Engineer Raymond Szymanski claimed that the Ohio base is a warehouse of extraterrestrial life and crashed flying saucers. Moreover, the documents found in the US Air Force Office of Special Investigation archives discuss the crashed UFOs and their occupants being held at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.
The document below is from a year prior, in 1952, where Airman 1st Class, Clyde Wheeler was interviewed and essentially said the same thing. He said he was told by Master Sergeant Loyal Bunce from Selfridge Air Force Base, Mt. Clemens, Michigan that he (Bunce) knew about the flying saucers at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. He explained in detail that he not only knew about the flying saucers at WPAFB but also knew they had possession of the bodies inside
USAF retired Raymond Szymanski claimed that state-of-the-art climate-controlled facilities and deep underground cryogenic chambers were put in place at WPAFB to preserve alien debris and technology, weapons, and even bodies and captured aliens. This location is dubbed “The Blue Room” within Hangar 18.
Stringfield was certainly the prominent figure who took the interest to look behind the door of Hangar 18. According to his research and collected data, there is a tremendous amount of UFO material and alien bodies locked in Hangar 18. He studied many accounts but two were quite fascinating, brought to his attention by researcher Charles Wilhelm.
He recalled: “In 1959, a lady living alone in Price Hill, Cincinnati, had hired young Charles to cut her grass all summer. She knew of his interest in the UFO [subject] but said little about it until she became ill with cancer. Knowing that she had a short time to live, she called Charles to her bedside to reveal a startling story. She said that she had had a Top Secret clearance in her past work at Wright-Patterson and had seen two saucer-shaped craft in a secret hangar. One craft was intact; the other, damaged. She also knew of two ‘small creatures’ preserved inside another secret building and had personally handled the paperwork on their autopsy report. She told Charles, ‘Uncle Sam can’t do anything to me after I’m in the grave.’”
There is another account brought to Stringfield by Wilhelm following his acquisition of sensitive intelligence data in 1966. Stringfield stated: “Wilhelm got the story from a friend in the Army Reserve whose father worked with Project Blue Book at Wright-Patterson Field and held high-security clearance. At the time of his death, the father told his son about the two disc-shaped craft and four preserved small alien bodies.
Wright-Patterson was the confirmed site of Project Sign — later Project Grudge, and later still, Project Blue Book — an official government study of UFOs. This secretive government research project was officially “terminated” in 1969. “In a 1988 interview, Senator Barry Goldwater claimed he had asked General Curtis Emerson LeMay for access to a secret UFO room at [Wright-Patterson] and angry LeMay said, “Not only can’t you get into it, but don’t you ever mention it to me again.”

Images From NASA's Perseverance May Show Record of Wild Martian River
Images From NASA's Perseverance May Show Record of Wild Martian River
Curved Bands of Rocks at 'Skrinkle Haven': Scientists think that the bands of rocks seen in this image may have been formed by a very fast, deep river – the first of its kind evidence has been found for on Mars.
Evidence left in rocks is leading scientists to rethink what watery environments looked like on ancient Mars.
New images taken by NASA’s Perseverance rover may show signs of what was once a rollicking river on Mars, one that was deeper and faster-moving than scientists have ever seen evidence for in the past. The river was part of a network of waterways that flowed into Jezero Crater, the area the rover has been exploring since landing more than two years ago.
Understanding these watery environments could help scientists in their efforts to seek out signs of ancient microbial life that may have been preserved in Martian rock.
Perseverance is exploring the top of a fan-shaped pile of sedimentary rock that stands 820 feet (250 meters) tall and features curving layers suggestive of flowing water. One question scientists want to answer is whether that water flowed in relatively shallow streams – closer to what NASA’s Curiosity rover has found evidence of in Gale Crater – or a more powerful river system.
Stitched together from hundreds of images captured by Perseverance’s Mastcam-Z instrument, two new mosaics suggest the latter, revealing important clues: coarse sediment grains and cobbles.
“Those indicate a high-energy river that’s truckin’ and carrying a lot of debris. The more powerful the flow of water, the more easily it’s able to move larger pieces of material,” said Libby Ives, a postdoctoral researcher at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California, which operates the Perseverance rover. With a background in studying Earth-based rivers, Ives has spent the last six months analyzing images of the Red Planet’s surface. “It’s been a delight to look at rocks on another planet and see processes that are so familiar,” Ives said.
Following the Curves
Years ago, scientists noticed a series of curving bands of layered rock within Jezero Crater that they dubbed “the curvilinear unit.” They could see these layers from space but are finally able to see them up close, thanks to Perseverance.
One location within the curvilinear unit, nicknamed “Skrinkle Haven,” is captured in one of the new Mastcam-Z mosaics. Scientists are sure the curved layers here were formed by powerfully flowing water, but Mastcam-Z’s detailed shots have left them debating what kind: a river such as the Mississippi, which winds snakelike across the landscape, or a braided river like Nebraska’s Platte, which forms small islands of sediment called sandbars.
Mastcam-Z's View of 'Pinestand': NASA’s Perseverance Mars rover captured this mosaic of an isolated hill nicknamed “Pinestand.”
When viewed from the ground, the curved layers appear arranged in rows that ripple out across the landscape. They could be the remnants of a river’s banks that shifted over time – or the remnants of sandbars that formed in the river. The layers were likely much taller in the past. Scientists suspect that after these piles of sediment turned to rock, they were sandblasted by wind over the eons and carved down to their present size.
“The wind has acted like a scalpel that has cut the tops off these deposits,” said Michael Lamb of Caltech, a river specialist and Perseverance science team collaborator. “We do see deposits like this on Earth, but they’re never as well exposed as they are here on Mars. Earth is covered in vegetation that hides these layers.”
A second mosaic captured by Perseverance shows a separate location that is part of the curvilinear unit and about a quarter mile (450 meters) from Skrinkle Haven. “Pinestand” is an isolated hill bearing sedimentary layers that curve skyward, some as high as 66 feet (20 meters). Scientists think these tall layers may also have been formed by a powerful river, although they’re exploring other explanations, as well.
“These layers are anomalously tall for rivers on Earth,” Ives said. “But at the same time, the most common way to create these kinds of landforms would be a river.”
The team is continuing to study Mastcam-Z’s images for additional clues. They’re also peering below the surface, using the ground-penetrating radar instrument on Perseverance called RIMFAX (short for Radar Imager for Mars’ Subsurface Experiment). What they learn from both instruments will contribute to an ever-expanding body of knowledge about Mars’ ancient, watery past.
“What’s exciting here is we’ve entered a new phase of Jezero’s history. And it’s the first time we’re seeing environments like this on Mars,” said Perseverance’s deputy project scientist, Katie Stack Morgan of JPL. “We’re thinking about rivers on a different scale than we have before.”
More About the Mission
A key objective for Perseverance’s mission on Mars is astrobiology, including the search for signs of ancient microbial life. The rover will characterize the planet’s geology and past climate, pave the way for human exploration of the Red Planet, and be the first mission to collect and cache Martian rock and regolith (broken rock and dust).
Subsequent NASA missions, in cooperation with ESA (European Space Agency), would send spacecraft to Mars to collect these sealed samples from the surface and return them to Earth for in-depth analysis.
The Mars 2020 Perseverance mission is part of NASA’s Moon to Mars exploration approach, which includes Artemis missions to the Moon that will help prepare for human exploration of the Red Planet.
JPL, which is managed for NASA by Caltech in Pasadena, California, built and manages operations of the Perseverance rover.

51 Minutes. Recorded June 5, 2023 at the ninth-annual Contact in the Desert Conference, Renaissance Resort and Spa, Indian Wells, CA.
Is this the most spectacular UFO footage ever captured in space? This video was captured by NASA's own cameras aboard Shuttle Mission STS-48 / Discovery from 1991.
An object flies right to left before a bright flash is seen from what is presumably the firing of a weapon. The object immediately responds by changing direction and accelerating to an incredible speed. What looks like a missile or energy weapon streaks through the area where the UFO had been.
NASA explained that it was a debris particle responding to a shuttle thruster firing but records obtained from NASA show that none of the space shuttle’s thrusters were firing during the moment of the flash and the object initial response to the light flash, besides, studies on this subject have learned that the object appears approximately one minute after the firing of the shuttle’s thrusters and one minute before the next thruster firing but given that the object was closer to the Earth’s horizon than to the space shuttle means the thrusters could not have provided the accelerating force necessary to deflect the object from its path.
In addition, at the moment of the light flash some force began accelerating the object in response to the light flash but since there is no apparent external source of propulsion to account for the increase in speed, suggesting that it, too, may have been self-propelled which is another indication that the object may have been a UFO under intelligent control responding to a possible attack on its craft.
The Hidden Extraterrestrial Agenda: Unmasking the Conspiracy Theories Surrounding the Majestic 12
The Hidden Extraterrestrial Agenda: Unmasking the Conspiracy Theories Surrounding the Majestic 12
For as long as humanity has gazed at the stars and dreamed of life beyond our world, there have been tales whispered in hushed tones about the “hidden hands” at play, operating behind the scenes to control the narrative surrounding extraterrestrial life. Today, we will delve into one of the most tantalizing and persisting stories that interweave secrecy, conspiracy, and the existence of aliens – the Majestic 12.
It all started in the 1980s, when a series of alleged leaked secret documents began to surface, revealing a secretive group known as the Majestic 12 or MJ-12. These documents pointed towards a shocking revelation – that the U.S. government had been in contact with extraterrestrial beings and was working to conceal this truth from the public eye.
The Majestic 12 was allegedly formed in 1947, in the wake of the infamous Roswell incident. According to the documents, President Harry S. Truman authorized the creation of this group, composed of a dozen top military and scientific personnel. Their mission? To investigate the wreckage retrieved from Roswell and manage the profound implications of such contact.
Critics dismiss the Majestic 12 as a hoax, pointing out inconsistencies and inaccuracies in the documents. Despite these critiques, the myth persists, fueled by a profound human need for answers and the unsettling thought that we may not be alone in the universe. After all, why would such a group need to exist unless there was something truly monumental to conceal?
In this article, we will deep dive into the heart of this enduring conspiracy, exploring the individuals allegedly involved, the purported evidence, and the far-reaching implications of such a cover-up.
Was the Majestic 12 a real entity or a fabrication designed to mislead the public? What were they really hiding? And if such a clandestine group existed, could it still be operating today under a different guise?
Join us as we step beyond the veil of secrecy, into the shadowy corridors of power where the lines between reality, conspiracy, and the potential existence of extraterrestrial life blur.
Fasten your seatbelts, dear readers, as we prepare for a journey into the depths of the unknown – a journey that could forever change the way we perceive ourselves, our governments, and the universe we inhabit.
Remember: the truth may be out there, but unveiling it requires courage, perseverance, and an unwavering willingness to question everything we think we know.
The Players: Who Composed the Majestic 12?
According to the leaked documents, the Majestic 12 was made up of top-ranking officials from different fields. These included the Secretary of Defense, the first three directors of Central Intelligence, renowned scientists, and military leaders. The alleged involvement of such highly esteemed figures lends weight to the conspiracy, causing many to wonder if there may be an element of truth to the allegations.
The Roswell Connection: Extraterrestrial Evidence or Elaborate Hoax?
The Roswell incident, which supposedly happened in the summer of 1947, became the epicenter of UFO lore. According to accounts, a rancher discovered inexplicable debris in his fields, triggering a wave of rumors about a crashed alien spacecraft. However, the military quickly intervened, stating that the debris was from a weather balloon, an explanation that many found unsatisfactory.
The alleged formation of the Majestic 12 following the Roswell incident is no coincidence, according to believers. They argue that the group’s primary objective was to analyze the wreckage and understand its origin and potential applications.
Fact or Fiction? Debunking the Documents
Many skeptics question the authenticity of the Majestic 12 documents. Some point out historical inaccuracies and discrepancies in formatting and language usage. Others note the convenient absence of any official record of the group’s existence.
However, believers counter these arguments, asserting that the absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence. They contend that such discrepancies could be intentional misinformation to throw off those who come too close to the truth.
The Cover-Up: A Hidden Agenda?
If the Majestic 12 were real and succeeded in establishing contact with extraterrestrial life, what were they hiding? The theories are as numerous as they are fascinating.
Some speculate that the group was hiding advanced alien technology that could revolutionize human society. Others believe that the secrecy was due to the existence of ongoing extraterrestrial communications. Yet another theory suggests that the group was formed to negotiate a “non-interference” pact with an alien civilization.
The Majestic 12 Today: Do They Still Operate?
While the documents suggest that the Majestic 12 was disbanded in the late 1960s, some conspiracy theorists posit that the group still exists, albeit under a different name and guise. They claim that the group continues to exert its influence over global affairs, manipulating events to keep humanity oblivious to the reality of extraterrestrial existence.
Conclusion: A Journey Into the Unknown
The story of the Majestic 12 is a journey into the heart of our collective fears and hopes about the existence of life beyond Earth. The tale intertwines elements of truth and fiction, reality and fantasy, creating a compelling narrative that continues to intrigue us.
As we navigate through this labyrinth of secrecy, we must remember that the quest for truth is an ongoing journey, a journey that requires us to question, explore, and seek answers relentlessly. The truth about the Majestic 12 may be out there, waiting to be discovered. Until then, all we have are questions, theories, and a healthy dose of skepticism.
In the end, the Majestic 12 saga forces us to confront the most profound question of all – Are we alone in the universe, or is there a deeper reality that we have yet to comprehend?
The mystery of the universe never ceases to enthrall us. Every once in a while, peculiar phenomena grace our skies, sparking a whirlwind of speculations and theories. UFO sightings are one such intriguing facet that have long been a subject of fascination for stargazers and scientists alike. Today, let’s embark on a journey to the captivating Hessdalen Valley of Norway, the epicenter of a fascinating story of unidentified flying objects, or as they are more commonly known, UFOs.
Norway’s Unexplained Phenomenon: The Hessdalen Lights
Tucked away in the southern part of Norway lies the tranquil Hessdalen Valley. Its picturesque landscape, however, has been the backdrop of a bizarre occurrence that has bewildered the world – the unexplained Hessdalen Lights.
For centuries, these mysterious lights have been observed, adding a surreal charm to the night skies over Hessdalen. It all started in earnest in 1981, with residents reporting strange lights moving around their houses, close to the ground. Interestingly, stories of such sightings can be traced back to as far as the 1800s, and even earlier, according to local historical accounts. The high intensity of sightings, peaking at up to 20 observations a week, started in late 1981 and lasted for about two to three years.
Understanding the Unidentified: Project Hessdalen
With the increase in UFO sightings, in stepped Erling Strand, an assistant professor at Østfold University College, specializing in physics and chemistry. He took upon the Herculean task of demystifying the Hessdalen Lights. This endeavor culminated in what is known as “Project Hessdalen”.
Project Hessdalen was initiated to gather more data on these sightings and to ascertain if there was a scientific explanation behind them. The project observed two distinct types of lights: big flashes that appeared and disappeared quickly, often followed by more of the same, and balls of light that could remain stationary for minutes or move at varying speeds – all completely soundless.
Scientific Theories and New Possibilities
Project Hessdalen encountered several challenges while attempting to explain these UFO sightings. For instance, the ‘natural battery theory’, proposing that the copper-rich mountains in the east and iron-rich mountains in the west of the valley acted as a natural battery, failed to account for the intensity of the lights. The voltage produced by this ‘natural battery’ was calculated to be around just one volt, far too little to create such brilliant lights.
VIDEO:
MYSTERIOUS LIGHTS over Norway | The Proof is Out There (Season 2)
Hence, Strand concluded that the solution might lie outside the realm of known physics. The Hessdalen Lights continue to be a subject of speculation, but also represent the exciting possibilities of uncharted physics and the mysteries that our universe continues to hold.
UFO Sightings and the Quest for Knowledge
UFO sightings, like the Hessdalen Lights, instigate a sense of wonder and curiosity. They remind us that there is much more between heaven and earth than we currently comprehend. As we continue to explore these unexplained phenomena, they push us to expand our knowledge about our universe and our earth.
Perhaps the most significant takeaway from these UFO sightings is the lesson they offer us. They teach us that the universe is an unfathomable entity, and as we uncover its secrets, we can use this knowledge to better understand, appreciate, and protect our world.
With the Hessdalen Lights continuing to grace the Norwegian skies, they invite the world to wonder, investigate, and learn. So, the next time you think about UFO sightings, remember the mysterious lights of Hessdalen Valley, a testament to the universe’s endless mysteries and the human spirit’s unyielding quest to unravel them.
A Meeting Point of Science and Speculation
The Hessdalen Lights create a unique convergence point for science, speculation, and, undeniably, the human imagination. They serve as a gentle reminder of how much we have yet to discover about our universe and how sometimes, it’s the unexplained that truly fuels the quest for knowledge.
As part of Project Hessdalen, several instruments have been installed in the valley to monitor and record the lights. They collect data on light frequency, brightness, color, duration, and other variables. This vast data collection, coupled with regular fieldwork, forms the backbone of the continuous research into the phenomenon.
What’s peculiar is that sometimes, the power seems to disappear from these field instruments when the lights appear. This has led researchers to question whether the Hessdalen Lights could influence their power supply or if there’s a more logical explanation yet to be uncovered.
Unraveling the Mystery: The Power of Collaboration
Erling Strand’s commitment to exploring these UFO sightings and the international attention they’ve garnered have created a unique collaborative environment. Scientists, researchers, and students from around the globe have joined forces in studying this peculiar phenomena. It’s a unified pursuit to unlock the mysteries of the universe, a journey that transcends borders and inspires a shared sense of curiosity.
In essence, the Hessdalen Lights stand as a beacon of scientific curiosity. Each sighting brings a surge of questions, each theory adds another layer to the fascinating narrative. It’s not just about UFO sightings; it’s about the broader implications of these findings. It’s about the potential of harnessing the yet-to-be-discovered laws of physics, the potential of turning these mysteries into meaningful advancements.
Concluding Thoughts: An Ode to the Enigma of the Universe
As the tale of the Hessdalen Lights unfolds, it continues to kindle our imagination and curiosity. It poses challenging questions and encourages us to seek answers. The phenomena represents the perfect fusion of mystery, science, and the innate human urge to understand the cosmos.
As we continue to learn more about the Hessdalen Lights and other UFO sightings, we are expanding our understanding of our place in the cosmos. It pushes us to ponder on the infinite possibilities that lie within our universe, reiterating that our quest for knowledge is never-ending.
In the end, the mystery of the Hessdalen Lights serves as a beautiful reminder of the universe’s grandeur and its countless, yet-to-be-discovered secrets. As we embark on this continuous journey of discovery, one thing is certain – every UFO sighting, every unexplained phenomenon is an open invitation from the cosmos to keep exploring, keep wondering, and keep learning.
Remember, each time you gaze at the night sky and think of UFO sightings, let the story of the Hessdalen Lights inspire you to dream, question, and explore the limitless wonders of our universe.

Other intelligence officials, both active and retired, with knowledge of these programs through their work in various agencies, have independently provided similar, corroborating information, both on and off the record.
Thewhistleblower, David Charles Grusch, 36, a decorated former combat officer in Afghanistan, is a veteran of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) and the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO). He served as the reconnaissance office’s representative to the Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force from 2019-2021. From late 2021 to July 2022, he was the NGA’s co-lead for UAP analysis and its representative to the task force.
The task force was established to investigate what were once called “unidentified flying objects,” or UFOs, and are now officially called “unidentified anomalous phenomena,” or UAP. The task force was led by the Department of the Navy under the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence and Security. It has since been reorganized and expanded into the All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office to include investigations of objects operating underwater.
Grusch said the recoveries of partial fragments through and up to intact vehicles have been made for decades through the present day by the government, its allies, and defense contractors. Analysis has determined that the objects retrieved are “of exotic origin (non-human intelligence, whether extraterrestrial or unknown origin) based on the vehicle morphologies and material science testing and the possession of unique atomic arrangements and radiological signatures,” he said.
In filing his complaint, Grusch is represented by a lawyer who served as the original Intelligence Community Inspector General (ICIG).
“We are not talking about prosaic origins or identities,” Grusch said, referencing information he provided Congress and the current ICIG. “The material includes intact and partially intact vehicles.”
In accordance with protocols, Grusch provided the Defense Office of Prepublication and Security Review at the Department of Defense with the information he intended to disclose to us. His on-the-record statements were all “cleared for open publication” on April 4 and 6, 2023, in documents provided to us.
Grusch’s disclosures, and those of non-public witnesses, under new protective provisions of the latest defense appropriations bill, signal a growing determination by some in the government to unravel a colossal enigma with national security implications that has bedeviled the military and tantalized the public going back to World War II and beyond. For many decades, the Air Force carried out a disinformation campaign to discredit reported sightings of unexplained objects. Now, with two public hearings and many classified briefings under its belt, Congress is pressing for answers.
Karl E.Nell, a recently retired Army Colonel and current aerospace executive who was the Army’s liaison for the UAP Task Force from 2021 to 2022 and worked with Grusch there, characterizes Grusch as “beyond reproach.”
Christopher Mellon, who spent nearly twenty years in the U.S. Intelligence Community and served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Intelligence, has worked with Congress for years on unidentified aerial phenomena.
“A number of well-placed current and former officials have shared detailed information with me regarding thisalleged program, including insights into the history, governing documents and the location where a craft was allegedly abandoned and recovered,” Mellon said. “However, it is a delicate matter getting this potentially explosive information into the right hands for validation. This is made harder by the fact that, rightly or wrongly, a number of potential sources do not trust the leadership of the All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Officeestablished by Congress.”
But some insiders are now willing to take the risk of coming forward for the first time with knowledge of these recovery programs.
Jonathan Grey is a generational officer of the United States Intelligence Community with a Top-Secret Clearance who currently works for the National Air and Space Intelligence Center (NASIC), where the analysis of UAP has been his focus. Previously he had experience serving Private Aerospace and Department of Defense Special Directive Task Forces.
“The non-human intelligence phenomenon is real. We are not alone,” Grey said. “Retrievals of this kind are not limited to the United States. This is a global phenomenon, and yet a global solution continues to elude us.”
At the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, Grusch served as a Senior Intelligence Capabilities Integration Officer, cleared at the Top Secret/Secret Compartmented Information level, and was the agency’s Senior Technical Advisor for Unidentified Aerial Phenomena analysis/Trans-Medium Issues. From 2016 to 2021, he served with the National Reconnaissance Office as Senior Intelligence Officer and led the production of the NRO director’s daily briefing. Grusch was a GS-15 civilian, the military equivalent of a Colonel.
Grusch has served as an Intelligence Officer for over fourteen years. A veteran of the Air Force, he has numerous awards and decorations for his participation in covert and clandestine operations to advance American security.
According to a 2021 NRO Performance Report, Grusch was an intelligence strategist with multiple responsibilities who “analyzed unidentified aerial phenomena reports” and “boosted congressional leadership Intel gaps [in] understanding.” He was assessed by the reconnaissance office’s Operations Center Deputy Director as an “adept staff officer and strategist” and “total force integrator with innovative solutions and actionable results.”
Grusch prepared many briefs on unidentified aerial phenomena for Congress while in government and helped draft the language on UAP for the FY2023 National Defense Authorization Act, spearheaded by Senators Kirsten Gillibrand and Marco Rubio and signed into law by President Biden in December 2022. The provision states that any person with relevant UAP information can inform Congress without retaliation, regardless of any previous non-disclosure agreements.
In his statements cleared for publication by the Pentagon in April, Grusch asserted that UFO “legacy programs” have long been concealed within “multiple agencies nesting UAP activities in conventional secret access programs without appropriate reporting to various oversight authorities.”
He said he reported to Congress on the existence of a decades-long “publicly unknown Cold War for recovered and exploited physical material – a competition with near-peer adversaries over the years to identify UAP crashes/landings and retrieve the material for exploitation/reverse engineering to garner asymmetric national defense advantages.”
Beginning in 2022, Grusch provided Congresswith hours of recorded classified information transcribed into hundreds of pages which included specific data about the materials recovery program. Congress has not been provided with any physical materials related to wreckage or other non-human objects.
Grusch’s investigation was centered on extensive interviews with high-level intelligence officials, some of whom are directly involved with the program. He says the operation was illegally shielded from proper Congressional oversightand that he was targeted and harassed because of his investigation.
Grusch said that the craft recovery operations are ongoing at various levels of activity and that he knows the specific individuals, current and former, who are involved.
“Individuals on these UAP programs approached me in my official capacity and disclosed their concerns regarding a multitude of wrongdoings, such as illegal contracting against the Federal Acquisition Regulations and other criminality and the suppression of information across a qualified industrial base and academia,” he stated.
Associates who vouched for Grusch said his information was highly sensitive, providing evidence that materials from objects of non-human origin are in the possession of highly secret black programs. Although locations, program names, and other specific data remain classified, the Inspector General and intelligence committee staff were provided with these details. Several current members of the recovery program spoke to the Inspector General’s office and corroborated the information Grusch had provided for the classified complaint.
Grusch left the government on April 7, 2023, in order, he said, to advance government accountability through public awareness. He remains well-supported within intelligence circles, and numerous sources have vouched for his credibility.
“His assertion concerning the existence of a terrestrial arms race occurring sub-rosa over the past eighty years focused on reverse engineering technologies of unknown origin is fundamentally correct, as is the indisputable realization that at least some of these technologies of unknown origin derive from non-human intelligence,” said Karl Nell, the retired Army Colonel who worked with Grusch on the UAP Task Force.
In a 2022 performance evaluation, Laura A. Potter, Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence, Headquarters, Department of the Army, described Nell as “an officer with the strongest possible moral compass.”
Grusch is represented by Charles McCullough III, senior partner of the Compass Rose Legal Group in Washington and the original Inspector General of the Intelligence Community, confirmed by the U.S. Senate in 2011. At that time, McCullough reported directly to the then-Director of National Intelligence, James R. Clapper, and oversaw intelligence officers responsible for audits, inspections, and investigations.
In May 2022, McCullough filed a Disclosure of Urgent Concern(s); Complaint of Reprisal on behalf of Grusch with the ICIG about detailed information that Grusch had gathered beginning in 2019 while working for the UAP Task Force.
An unclassified version of the complaint provided to us states that Grusch has direct knowledge that UAP-related classified information has been withheld and/or concealed from Congress by “elements” of the intelligence community “to purposely and intentionally thwart legitimate Congressional oversight of the UAP Program.” All testimony Grusch provided for the classified complaint was provided under oath.
According to the unclassified complaint, in July 2021, Grusch had confidentially provided classified information to the Department of Defense Inspector General concerning the withholding of UAP-related information from Congress. He believed that his identity, and the fact that he had provided testimony, were disclosed “to individuals and/or entities” within the Department of Defense and the Intelligence Community outside the IG’s office. He did not allege that this information was improperly disclosed by any member of that office.
As a result, Grusch suffered months of retaliation and reprisals related to these disclosures beginning in 2021. He asked that details of these reprisals be withheld to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation.
The Intelligence Community Inspector General found his complaint “credible and urgent” in July 2022. According to Grusch, a summary was immediately submitted to the Director of National Intelligence, Avril Haines; the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence; and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.
The complaint was drafted and signed by McCullough and his managing partner. It ended with Grusch’s signature attached to his statement that “I do solemnly affirm under the penalties of perjury that the contents of the foregoing paper are true and correct to the best of my knowledge.”
A whistleblower reprisal investigation was launched, and Grusch began his communication with the staff of the Congressional intelligence committees in private closed-door sessions. According to Grusch, certain information which he obtained in his investigation could not be put before Congressional staffers because they did not have the necessary clearances or the appropriate investigative authority.
A representative of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence told us in March that the committee members are not able to comment on the content of a complaint or confirm the identity of a complainant.
“When you have multiple agencies nesting UAP activities in conventional SAP/CAP programs, both as recipients of exploitation-related insights and for operational reasons, without appropriate reporting to various oversight authorities, you have a problem,” Grusch said, referencing the highly secret Special Access Programs and Controlled Access Programs.
Grusch’s willingness to take risks and speak out appears to be emboldening others with similar knowledge who believe in greater transparency.
Jonathan Grey, the intelligence officer specializing in UAP analysis at the National Air and Space Intelligence Center, is speaking publicly for the first time, identified here under the identity he uses inside the agency.
NASIC, headquartered at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, is the Department of Defense’s primary Air Force source for foreign air and space threat analysis. Its mission is to “discover and characterize air, space, missile, and cyber threats,” according to the agency’s website. “The center’s team of trusted subject matter experts deliver unique collection, exploitation, and analytic capabilities not found elsewhere,” the website states.
Grey said that such immense capabilities are not merely relegated to the study of the prosaic. “The existence of complex historical programs involving the coordinated retrieval and study of exotic materials, dating back to the early 20th century, should no longer remain a secret,” he said. “The majority of retrieved, foreign exotic materials have a prosaic terrestrial explanation and origin – but not all, and any number higher than zero in this category represents an undeniably significant statistical percentage.”
It is unusual for an Air Force insider to come forward, as the Air Force has been less forthcoming than other agencies with regard to UAP.
“A vast array of our most sophisticated sensors, including space-based platforms, have been utilized by different agencies, typically in triplicate, to observe and accurately identify the out-of-this-world nature, performance, and design of these anomalous machines, which are then determined not to be of earthly origin,” Grey said.
Mellon, the former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Intelligence, has been instrumental in arranging classified briefings for members of Congress and other officials about UAP, which include references to exotic retrieved materials. The first briefing he facilitated on retrievals of unexplained objects was provided to staff members of the Senate Armed Services Committee on Oct. 21, 2019, and to staff members of the Senate Intelligence Committee two days later, as reported by The New York Times.
Mellonsays that once the members of Congress gain greater awareness of the information provided to their staff and the Inspector General, they will be in a position to quickly determine the truth if they have the will to do so.
“This is an unprecedented oversight challenge for the committees, but I believe we have leaders in Congress who are up to the task,” Mellon said.
Classified briefings are often presented for Jonathan Grey and his team at NASIC. “High-level, classified briefing materials exist in which real-world scenarios involving UAP, as evidenced by historical examples, are made available to Intelligence Personnel on a need-to-know basis,” he told us. “I have been the recipient of such briefings for almost a decade.”
The National Defense Authorization Act for FY2023 tasked the Secretary of Defense, in consultation with the Director of National Intelligence, with establishing for the first time a secure mechanism for the authorized reporting of sensitive information to defense channels.
In addition, the legislation asks for reporting on “material retrieval, material analysis, reverse engineering, research, and development” involving unidentified anomalous phenomena currently and going back decades.
Dr. Garry Nolan, a Professor in the Department of Pathology at Stanford University and a renowned inventor and entrepreneur with more than three hundred published papers, has started over half a dozen companies based on technologies out of his laboratory. Nolan has previously applied some of those technologies to the analysis of exotic materials, publishing the first peer-reviewed paper examining such materials.
“Human civilization was utterly transformed by something as small as a grain of silicon or germanium—creating the underpinning of the integrated circuits that underly computation and now even artificial intelligence,” Nolan said.
Studying even small samples of purported anomalous material could lead to currently inconceivable benefits for humanity, he said. “What might be represented here could be hundreds of technology revolutions ahead of us. It could be more transformative for humanity than what the microprocessor accomplished. Imagine what we could do with even a grain of knowledge about how they operate.”
To encourage potential witnesses to come forward, the whistleblower legislation forbids any federal employee from retaliating against anyone providing authorized disclosure.
“Whistleblowing is essential to the checks and balances of our government – and no federal employee should feel discouraged from stepping forward due to fear of retaliation,” Rep. Andre Carson told us. In May 2022, Carson presided over the first open Congressional hearing on UAP since 1968.
The case of David Grusch marks a crucial test of these new whistleblower protections and their ability to protect future whistleblowers who decide to come forward.
Jonathan Grey says secrets have been necessary. “Though a tough nut to crack, potential technological advancements may be gleaned from non-human intelligence/UAP retrievals by any sufficiently advanced nation and then used to wage asymmetrical warfare, so, therefore, some secrecy must remain,” he says. “However, it is no longer necessary to continue to deny that these advanced technologies derived from non-human intelligence exist at all or to deny that these technologies have landed, crashed, or fallen into the hands of human beings.”
Grey noted that the hypothesis that the United States alone has bullied the other nations into maintaining this secrecy for nearly a century continues to prevail as the primary consensus amongst the public at large. “My hope is to dissuade the global populace from this archaic and preposterous notion, and to potentially pave the way for a much broader discussion,” he said.
Grusch said it was dangerous for this “eighty-year arms race” to continue in secrecy because it “further inhibits the world populace to be prepared for an unexpected, non-human intelligence contact scenario.”
“I hope this revelation serves as an ontological shock sociologically and provides a generally uniting issue for nations of the world to re-assess their priorities,” Grusch said.
Leslie Kean and Ralph Blumenthal, with Helene Cooper, co-authored the Dec. 17, 2017, front-page article in The New York Times that disclosed the existence of a secret Pentagon program investigating UAP.
Tim McMillan, Micah Hanks, Craig Labadie ,and Sean Munger contributed to this article.
Astronomers have discovered hundreds of strange, stringlike structures at the center of our galaxy, possibly tracing the violent path of an ancient black hole eruption.
According to new research published June 2 in The Astrophysical Journal Letters, each of these previously unknown "filaments" measures between 5 and 10 light-years in length — thousands of times the distance between the sun and Pluto — but is visible only in radio wavelengths, meaning the structures were likely created by bursts of high-energy particles that are invisible to the naked eye.
When seen together, the hundreds of crackling filaments seem to point directly at our galaxy's central supermassive black hole, suggesting that they may be the unhealed scars of an ancient, high-energy black hole outburst that tore through the surrounding clouds of gas.
"It was a surprise to suddenly find a new population of structures that seem to be pointing in the direction of the black hole," lead study author Farhad Yusef-Zadeh, a professor of physics and astronomy at Northwestern University in Illinois, said in a statement. "I was actually stunned when I saw these … and we found that these filaments are not random but appear to be tied to the outflow of our black hole."
The Milky Way's central supermassive black hole, dubbed Sagittarius A* (or Sgr A*), is a cosmic monster with more mass than 4 million suns. Its intense gravitational pull binds our galaxy together — but its monstrous appetite has also resulted in some severe cases of interstellar indigestion.
Prior radio observations of Sgr A* conducted by Yusef-Zadeh's team turned up enormous bubbles of energy towering 25,000 light-years above each side of the black hole's maw, as well as roughly 1,000 vertical, strand-like radio filaments emanating from Sgr A* like the strings of an immense harp. Both of these mysterious phenomena were likely created by an ancient outburst from our galaxy's black hole, Yusef-Zadeh has suggested.
To detect the new crop of spindly, horizontal radio filaments, the researchers enhanced recent observations from the South African Radio Astronomy Observatory's MeerKAT telescope — an array of 64 interlinked radio antennas in South Africa — and reduced the background noise of nearby energy sources. The resulting images showed that the newfound filaments are about as thin as the previously discovered forest of vertical filaments. However, these new strands of energy appear to radiate from only one side of Sgr A*, whereas the previously discovered filaments line up all across the galactic center.
The newly discovered structures are also much shorter than their vertical counterparts, and there are far fewer of them. Despite these cosmetic differences, the researchers suspect the newfound structures were created by a similar eruption of energy from our galaxy's central black hole that may have occurred around 6 million years ago, the team estimated.
"It seems to be the result of an interaction of that outflowing material with objects near it," Yusef-Zadeh concluded. However, he added, his team must make new radio observations to "continually challenge our ideas and tighten up our analysis" of the violent past life of the monster at the center of our galaxy
The authenticity of Bob Lazar has always been questioned due to his failure to provide substantial credentials. Critics have often pointed out this lack of evidence, which has raised doubts about his credibility. However, despite the skepticism, there are also many individuals who support Lazar because of the knowledge he has shared with the public. Since his initial public appearance in 1989, Lazar has remained steadfast in his claims and has not altered his story, which some argue enhances his credibility on the topic of UFOs.
Lazar’s credibility has been a subject of scrutiny. Skeptics have pointed out inconsistencies in his background, including the fact that the educational institutions he claimed to have attended had no record of him. Additionally, Lazar faced legal trouble, being charged for involvement in an illegal activity unrelated to his UFO claims.
While Lazar has provided limited physical evidence, such as a W-2 form indicating income from the Department of Naval Intelligence, even that has been questioned for its authenticity. Critics have highlighted discrepancies in the form’s wording, casting doubt on its validity.
Glen Meek, an Emmy award-winning former Las Vegas investigative reporter wrote:
“I covered Lazar’s criminal case as a reporter for KTNV-TV in 1990. I remember him pleading guilty to pandering and I recall thinking: if his saucer stories were true, and he’s typical of the scientists we have working on the most significant scientific project in history — then our planet might be in deep doo-do.
Yet, credibility issues aside, and despite a dearth of physical evidence and lack of corroboration from other scientists, Lazar’s astounding tale has not only survived over three decades — but thrived.
His claims received renewed attention in 2018 thanks to a documentary produced by movie maker Jeremy Corbell. The documentary — widely viewed on Netflix — led to Lazar appearing on the Joe Rogan podcast, possibly the most popular podcast on the planet (this planet, anyway). Corbell, meanwhile, has been interviewed multiple times recently on network news talk shows. He is the source of at least one, recently leaked UAP video that depicts what appear to be triangular shapes moving through the sky.
Corbell — in the interviews I’ve seen — has not claimed the UAP videos show alien intelligence at work. But he did say in his documentary that he believed there was more evidence Bob Lazar was telling the truth than there was that he was lying.
Assuming Lazar has been telling the truth — can the report avoid conceding that? Wouldn’t the Pentagon have to say, at the very least, “Well, Senators, we’re not sure what’s causing all these recent UAP sightings, but we can tell you that we have an alien technology in our possession capable of performing the same kind of high-speed, gravity-defying maneuvers we’re seeing in these videos.” Of course, such news would be the biggest story since Genesis.
One thing you can say about Lazar after all these years: he was unequivocal. Lazar did not drop vague, tantalizing hints (as some have recently done in the media) that American scientists have possible ‘exotic materials’ that need further testing to determine whether they’re of alien origin. Lazar flat out said our scientists have nine captive alien craft (nine!), that they’ve been studying these craft for more than thirty years, and that he personally wrenched on the machines.”
Agreeing with Meek on Lazar, Leslie Kean and Ralph Blumenthal recently published a piece on The Debrief writing, “A former intelligence official turned whistleblower has given Congress and the Intelligence Community Inspector General extensive classified information about deeply covert programs that he says possess retrieved intact and partially intact craft of non-human origin.”
David Charles Grusch, a whistleblower and former combat officer in Afghanistan, has come forward with information about unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP). Grusch, a veteran of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) and the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), claims that the government, its allies, and defense contractors have been recovering partial fragments and intact vehicles related to these phenomena for decades.
According to Grusch, analysis of these objects has revealed their “exotic origin” and suggests the presence of non-human intelligence, whether extraterrestrial or of unknown origin. This determination is based on vehicle morphologies, material science testing, unique atomic arrangements, and radiological signatures.
Based on this, Lazar’s claims sound true and certainly, he has supported individuals who are involved in crash retrieval programs, according to Diana Pasulka, a professor at the University of North Carolina and author of the book American Cosmic.
Pasulka says belief in UFOs and extraterrestrials is becoming a kind of religion — and it is not nearly as fringe as one might think. In her recent interview with Danny Jones on Koncrete, her perspective on the Bob Lazar story.
She does not explicitly state whether she believes or disbelieves it, acknowledging that there is a lot of information and discrediting surrounding Lazar. She mentions that she knows people associated with [UFO]programs that work with phenomena and claims of back engineering, and they believe Lazar’s story. However, she cannot confirm their claims.
Pasulka finds the situation confusing, just like everyone else, and mentions that one piece of information not widely known is that if such information were to come out, it would not be through someone with a Ph.D., but rather through individuals who could easily be discredited if necessary.
One perplexing aspect to Pasulka is the fact that if Lazar is a genuine whistleblower exposing one of the government’s most secretive programs, it is puzzling that he still receives government contracts and continues to work on various projects. She compares this to other whistleblowers who typically face consequences and are not supported by the government.
Pasulka also notes the polarizing nature of the debate, with scientists vehemently opposing Lazar while others with similar credentials support him. She questions why Lazar has not engaged in a proper scientific debate or discussion and suggests that he may not be able to keep up with scientists in terms of specific questions and inquiries. Additionally, Pasulka mentions that Lazar himself has expressed regret about coming forward with his story, which could explain his reluctance to engage in further debates.
Regarding Lazar’s intelligence, Pasulka discusses the idea that some individuals may be geniuses in specific areas but lack the broader knowledge and expertise acquired through extensive education. She mentions Tyler as an example, who graduated from college but has numerous patents in biotechnology-related fields. This implies that Lazar may have been highly skilled in a specific domain but may not possess the comprehensive knowledge associated with advanced academic institutions like MIT.
Former Navy Pilot Ryan Graves on His UFO Encounter
Former Navy pilot Ryan Graves discusses reports a former intelligence official gave Congress information about covert programs that retrieved 'intact and partially intact craft of non-human origin' on 'The Ingraham Angle.'
An Air Force veteran is blowing the whistle on alleged secret U.S. military programs which he claims have been retrieving craft of "non-human origin" for at least several decades.
David Charles Grusch, a 36-year-old decorated former combat officer in Afghanistan, served the National Reconnaissance Office, acting as their representative to Congress’ Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force from 2019-2021. At the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, he also served from late 2021 to July 2022 as co-lead of unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP) analysis and its representative to the task force, which was recently renamed the All Domain Anomaly Resolution Office.
The Debrief first reported Monday that Grusch said he filed a whistleblower complaint to Congress and the Intelligence Community Inspector General (ICIG) on classified information that he insists proves the recoveries of partial fragments through and up to intact vehicles have been made for decades through the present day by the U.S. government, its allies and defense contractors.
The recoveries have been determined through analysis to be "of exotic origin (non-human intelligence, whether extraterrestrial or unknown origin) based on the vehicle morphologies and material science testing and the possession of unique atomic arrangements and radiological signatures," Grusch said.

"We are not talking about prosaic origins or identities," Grusch said of the information he submitted to Congress and the ICIG. "The material includes intact and partially intact vehicles."
Grusch also sat down for an interview with NewsNation, claiming that many senior and former intelligence officers, many of whom he knew nearly his whole career, began confiding in him and provided documents and other "proof" that they were part of a secret craft retrieval program that the UAP Task Force "was not read into."
"These are retrieving non-human origin technical vehicles, call it spacecraft if you will, non-human exotic origin vehicles that have either landed or crashed," Grusch said.
"Well, naturally, when you recover something that’s either landed or crashed. Sometimes you encounter dead pilots and believe it or not, as fantastical as that sounds, it’s true."
"We’re definitely not alone," he said. "The data points, quite empirically that we’re not alone."
Grusch told The Debrief that unidentified flying object (UFO) "legacy programs" have long been concealed within "multiple agencies nesting UAP activities in conventional secret access programs without appropriate reporting to various oversight authorities."
He said he sounded the alarm to Congress on the existence of a decades-long "publicly unknown Cold War for recovered and exploited physical material – a competition with near-peer adversaries over the years to identify UAP crashes/landings and retrieve the material for exploitation/reverse engineering to garner asymmetric national defense advantages."

"There is a sophisticated disinformation campaign targeting the U.S. populace which is extremely unethical and immoral," Grusch told News Nation, recognizing a "great personal risk and obvious professional risk" in speaking out publicly on the topic.
Grusch said he began providing hours of recorded classified information transcribed into hundreds of pages which included specific data about the materials-recovery program to Congress starting in 2022.

"Individuals on these UAP programs approached me in my official capacity and disclosed their concerns regarding a multitude of wrongdoings, such as illegal contracting against the Federal Acquisition Regulations and other criminality and the suppression of information across a qualified industrial base and academia," Grusch told The Debrief.
Though specific data, such as the locations of recoveries and program names remain classified, and no physical materials have been provided to Congress, several current members of the recovery program have since spoken to the Inspector General’s office, corroborating information in Grusch’s complaint.
"His assertion concerning the existence of a terrestrial arms race occurring sub-rosa over the past eighty years focused on reverse engineering technologies of unknown origin is fundamentally correct, as is the indisputable realization that at least some of these technologies of unknown origin derive from non-human intelligence," Karl Nell, a retired Army Colonel who worked with Grusch on the UAP Task Force, told The Debrief.
Per protocol, Grusch notified the Department of Defense of the information he intended to disclose to The Debrief, and the Pentagon cleared those intended on-the-record-statements for open publication in April – just days before Grusch left the government.
When astronomers used the JWST to look at a galaxy more than 12 billion light years away, they were also looking back in time. And when they found organic molecules in that distant galaxy, they found them in the early Universe.
The organic molecules are usually found where stars are forming, but in this case, they’re not.
The organic molecules are polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) which scientists think are building blocks for life. They occur naturally here on Earth as by-products of combustion. They’re also prevalent in the interstellar medium (ISM), the matter and radiation in between stars. They indicate regions of cold gas from which stars form.
Finding PAHs in a distant, ancient galaxy required advanced technology, skill, and some fortuitous luck. The JWST provided the technology with its keen infrared observing capabilities, and a foreground galaxy only 3 billion light years away lined up with the distant galaxy provided the luck. It’s lined up just right and acts as a gravitational lens, amplifying the light from the distant galaxy.
The distant galaxy is called SPT0418-47. Not only is it 12 billion light years away, but astronomers are seeing the light it emitted when the Universe was only 10% of its current age, about 1.5 billion years after the Big Bang.
SPT0418-47’s ancient light forms a ring around the foreground galaxy called an Einstein ring. Einstein predicted these rings in his theory of general relativity. With the light amplified, the powerful JWST examined it with its Mid-Infrared Instrument (MIRI.)
The researchers who found the PAHs come from different institutions in North and South America and Europe. They presented their findings in an article in Nature titled “Spatial variations in aromatic hydrocarbon emission in a dust-rich galaxy.” The lead author is Justin Spilker from the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Texas A&M University.
“By combining Webb’s amazing capabilities with a natural ‘cosmic magnifying glass,’ we were able to see even more detail than we otherwise could,” said lead author Spilker. “That level of magnification is actually what made us interested in looking at this galaxy with Webb in the first place because it really lets us see all the rich details of what makes up a galaxy in the early universe that we could never do otherwise.”
There are several types of PAHs, but one thing they have in common is size. Even the simplest one, naphthalene, has 10 carbon atoms and 8 hydrogen atoms. Larger ones can have 50 carbon atoms.
“These big molecules are actually pretty common in space,” Spilker explained. “Astronomers used to think they were a good sign that new stars were forming. Anywhere you saw these molecules, baby stars were also right there blazing away.”
PAHs have long been associated with star birth. Astronomers have found them in regions of active star birth in different parts of the Milky Way. They’ve also spotted the large molecules near bright young stars.
But in this case, the ancient galaxy contains abundant PAHs absent star formation, and star formation absent PAHs.
“Thanks to the high-definition images from Webb, we found a lot of regions with smoke but no star formation and others with new stars forming but no smoke,” Spilker said.
Something’s going on in distant, ancient SPT0418-47 that needs a rethink. The link between PAHs and star formation is not as strong as once thought. Or not in the early Universe, anyway.
Astronomers can’t reach a conclusion based on observations of one galaxy. The mismatch between the presence of PAHs and star formation can only be understood with more observations. Astronomers can lean on the JWST to provide more.
“Discoveries like this are precisely what Webb was built to do: understand the earliest stages of the universe in new and exciting ways,” said the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign graduate student Kedar Phadke, who led the technical development of the team’s Webb observations. “It’s amazing that we can identify molecules billions of light-years away that we’re familiar with here on Earth, even if they show up in ways we don’t like, like smog and smoke. It’s also a powerful statement about the amazing capabilities of Webb that we’ve never had before.”
It took some sleuthing to differentiate between the infrared light from PAHs and from larger dust grains. Dust grains absorb about half of the radiation from stars throughout the Universe’s history and emit it as infrared light. All that infrared light from simple dust can cloud the picture of early galaxies.
Joaquin Vieira is an astronomy and physics professor at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and was part of the research team. “This project started when I was in graduate school studying hard-to-detect, very distant galaxies obscured by dust,” Vieira said. “Dust grains absorb and re-emit about half of the stellar radiation produced in the universe, making infrared light from distant objects extremely faint or undetectable through ground-based telescopes.”
Prior to the JWST’s launch, there was no way to really observe these ancient galaxies. Instead, astronomers made do with what are known as bright compact dwarf (BCD) galaxies. These small galaxies are similar to the small galaxies that astronomers thought were common in the early Universe. Many researchers think that our galaxy and others like it grew so large via mergers involving BCDs. Some BCDs allowed for the creation of PAHs, but young stars shining brightly in UV could also destroy PAHs.
BCDs were used as stand-ins for ancient galaxies, and while observations were tantalizing, there were always questions. However, those early galaxies were out of reach.
But the JWST’s formidable infrared observing power has changed that. When combined with gravitational lensing, the picture of distant objects becomes clearer.
“We didn’t expect this,” Vieira said. “Detecting these complex organic molecules at such a vast distance is game-changing regarding future observations. This work is just the first step, and we’re just now learning how to use it and learn its capabilities. We are very excited to see how this plays out.”
Since PAHs contain carbon, astronomers think they can only exist once generations of stars have lived and died. Elements heavier than hydrogen and helium weren’t created by the Big Bang. Only stellar nucleosynthesis can create them. Once they’re created in stars, they’re spread out into the Universe when the star “dies.”
“What this research is telling us right now – and we are still learning – is that we can see all of the regions where these smaller dust grains are located – regions that we could never see before the JWST,” Phadke said. “The new spectroscopic data lets us observe the galaxy’s atomic and molecular composition, providing very important insights into the formation of galaxies, their lifecycle and how they evolve.”
There’s no explanation yet for why PAHs are seen absent of star formation and vice versa. If observations of other ancient galaxies display the same thing, then astronomers are onto something.
These new JWST observations come from TEMPLATES, an early-release science program. TEMPLATES stands for Targeting Extremely Magnified Panchromatic Lensed Arcs and Their Extended Star formation. “Lensing magnification pushes JWST to the highest spatial resolutions possible at these redshifts,” the TEMPLATES team wrote, “to map the key spectral diagnostics of star formation and dust extinction: H-alpha, Pa-alpha, and 3.3um PAH within individual distant galaxies.”
TEMPLATES features observations of four galaxies, all through gravitational lensing. Two of the four galaxies are extremely dusty, and telescopes like the Hubble can’t see into them. But the JWST can pierce the dusty veil and map the dust. By doing that, it found PAHs and possibly new aspects of star formation prevalent in the early Universe.
“These are early days for the Webb Telescope, so astronomers are excited to see all the new things it can do for us,” Spilker said. “Detecting smoke in a galaxy early in the history of the universe? Webb makes this look easy. Now that we’ve shown this is possible for the first time, we’re looking forward to trying to understand whether it’s really true that where there’s smoke, there’s fire. Maybe we’ll even be able to find galaxies that are so young that complex molecules like these haven’t had time to form in the vacuum of space yet, so galaxies are all fire and no smoke. The only way to know for sure is to look at more galaxies, hopefully even further away than this one.”

Former intelligence official claims U.S. has retrieved craft of non-human origin
A former intelligence official turned whistleblower has given Congress and the Intelligence Community Inspector General extensive classified information about deeply covert programs that he says possess retrieved intact and partially intact craft of non-human origin.
The whistleblower, David Charles Grusch states: "The recoveries of partial fragments through and up to intact vehicles have been made for decades through the present day by the government, its allies, and defense contractors."
Associates who vouched for Grusch said his information was highly sensitive, providing evidence that materials from objects of non-human origin are in the possession of highly secret black programs.

With our vast universe and countless galaxies, the intrigue around extraterrestrial life continues to grow. The keyword “UFO sightings” has surged in popularity, reflecting a significant curiosity within our society. The topic of UFO sightings has taken an interesting turn with recent allegations against the government’s clandestine activities.
In the wake of several UFO sightings reported by Navy pilots, and revelations around secret Defense funding directed towards the investigation of unidentified foreign objects, a compelling story has emerged, hinting at a possible government cover-up of alien technology. The central figure in this developing narrative is a Defense Intelligence whistleblower, David Charles Grusch.
Grusch has dropped a bombshell, accusing the Intelligence Community of concealing classified evidence pointing towards “intact and partially intact craft of non-human origin”. This is certainly a captivating claim that could potentially change our understanding of UFO sightings and extraterrestrial intelligence.
An experienced combat veteran with a respectable service record in Afghanistan, Grusch was a part of the Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force, responsible for investigating UFO sightings. His tenure at the National Reconnaissance Office, one of the top five U.S. intelligence agencies, lends credibility to his assertions. He posits that fragments of exotic origin, hinting at non-human intelligence, have been recovered by the Pentagon and other entities.
Backing up Grusch’s claims is Karl Nell, a retired Army colonel and fellow member of the UFO task force, who vouches for Grusch’s integrity. Nell affirms the ongoing competition between nations to retrieve and reverse-engineer materials from UFO crash sites. The implications of this claim are enormous – suggesting a covert terrestrial arms race that has been ongoing for nearly eighty years, revolving around technology of unknown, likely non-human, origin.
Jonathan Grey, another intelligence official investigating UFO sightings, supports these assertions. He openly acknowledges the existence of non-human intelligence, stating, “The non-human intelligence phenomenon is real. We are not alone.”
Further intrigue is added to this narrative with the revelation that evidence of extraterrestrial tech has been illicitly withheld from Congressional oversight. This provocative claim speaks of an intentional effort to obstruct legitimate governmental investigation into UFO sightings and related phenomena. Grusch’s allegations sparked an intelligence investigation, causing waves within the Intelligence Community.
An Exclusive Monday Evening Interview with Whistleblower Grusch
The UFO sightings and alleged concealment of alien technology present a startling possibility of what might be hidden from the public view. As the revelations around these claims continue to unfold, society’s curiosity and search for keywords like “UFO sightings” will undoubtedly persist.
As we navigate the uncertainty of these revelations, the words of Grusch ring in our ears, hoping his claims would provide an “ontological shock.” Whether these allegations can unravel the mystery behind UFO sightings remains to be seen. However, one thing is clear: this intrigue has opened a new chapter in our quest to understand our universe and our place within it.
Astronomers recently identified asteroid 2023 FW13 as a quasi-moon, a space rock orbiting the sun nearly in tandem with Earth.

Scientists recently discovered an asteroid that tags along with Earth during its yearly journey around the sun.
Dubbed 2023 FW13, the space rock is considered a "quasi-moon" or "quasi-satellite," meaning it orbits the sun in a similar time frame as Earth does, but is only slightly influenced by our planet’s gravitational pull. It is estimated to be 50 feet (15 meters) in diameter — roughly equivalent to three large SUVs parked bumper to bumper. During its orbit of the sun, 2023 FW13 also circles Earth, coming within 9 million miles (14 million kilometers) of our planet. For comparison, the moon has a diameter of 2,159 miles (3,474 km) and comes within 226,000 miles (364,000 km) of Earth at the closest point of its orbit, according to NASA.
2023 FW13 was first observed in March by the Pan-STARRS observatory, which is located atop the volcanic mountain Haleakalā in Hawaii. The asteroid's existence was then confirmed by the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii and two observatories in Arizona before being officially listed on April 1 by the Minor Planet Center at the International Astronomical Union, a network of scientists responsible for designating new planets, moons and other objects in the solar system.
Some estimates suggest that 2023 FW13 has been Earth's cosmic neighbor since at least 100 B.C. and that the space rock will continue to follow this orbital path until around A.D. 3700, Adrien Coffinet, an astronomer and journalist who first categorized the asteroid as a quasi-moon after modeling its orbit, told Sky & Telescope.
"It seems to be the longest quasi-satellite of Earth known to date," Coffinet said.
Following 2023 FW13's initial discovery in March, space observers dug into the data and found observations of the asteroid dating all the way back to 2012, according to Live Science's sister site Space.com.
Despite hovering relatively close to Earth, this quasi-satellite likely isn't on a collision course with our planet.
"The good news is, such an orbit doesn't result in an impacting trajectory 'out of the blue,'" Alan Harris, an astronomer at the Space Science Institute, told Sky & Telescope.
This is not Earth's only quasi-companion; a different quasi-satellite known as Kamo'oalewa was discovered in 2016. The rock sticks similarly close to our planet during its orbit around the sun, and a 2021 study suggested that this asteroid could actually be a fragment of Earth's moon.
The alien abduction cases are often considered in the category of fringe as individuals who claimed to have been abducted have only a story to share. Does that mean they are lying? Probably not. They might have seen and experienced things that are either some unknown natural phenomena or aliens that are behind them. Mabel White is among the few alien abductees with a compelling story that seems true to many.
John Ege from Medium writes: “UFO and alien abductions likely go back before the modern era. To hear Erich von Däniken, author of Chariots of the Gods, say it, it’s been going on since the beginning of humanity.” And interestingly, Ege states that there is no psychological or social phenomenon that explains alien abductions, and John E Mack, Harvard Professor agreed with it.
On April 23, 2023, Eyes On Cinema published a never-seen interview of Mabel White (video is mentioned below), where she talks about her encounter with extraterrestrial beings and their puzzling motives behind what she refers to as a “hybridization” program. White’s testimony offers a glimpse into an enigmatic world where otherworldly forces are said to manipulate human biology for unknown purposes.
“They told me they were making a hybrid race, but they never revealed the true purpose behind it,” White shares, her voice filled with curiosity and confusion. “I asked them why they were gathering eggs and engaging in these activities, but they never provided a clear answer.”
White vividly recalls incidents from her childhood in the 1930s, where she and her family would witness peculiar lights hovering over oil wells. On multiple occasions, they spotted small children dressed in white near these wells, both during the day and night. Curiosity piqued, White and her family attempted to approach these ethereal beings, but they always vanished before they could make contact.
“The main concept conveyed to me was the creation of a hybrid breed that could exist in both our atmosphere and theirs,” White explains. “They claimed they hadn’t yet achieved the desired outcome.”
In a particularly vivid memory, White describes being shown a baby that appeared human but with slightly slanted eyes. She immediately recognized the child as her own and expressed a desire to take the child with her. However, the extraterrestrials informed her that the child would not survive in Earth’s atmosphere.
White’s conviction in the reality of her experiences is unwavering. She cites physical evidence, such as dirt on her body that could not have been obtained from simply stepping out of a car, as proof of the authenticity of her encounters. She also speaks of unexplained bruises that appeared overnight, emphasizing that no one can physically harm her in her sleep.
“The bruises are real. I couldn’t have caused them myself, and if someone had hit me, I would have woken up,” White asserts. “These experiences are real to me, and they are not inherently frightening. They just happen, and they leave an indelible mark.”
While initially frightened by her lack of conscious awareness during these events, White eventually found peace in accepting that she could not alter or control them. She believes that humans are powerless against these advanced extraterrestrial beings, both mentally and technologically.
“They are too far advanced for us to defend ourselves,” she states. “It’s as if they possess a kind of magic. They could easily conquer us if they desired, but I don’t believe their intention is to dominate through violence. Instead, they seek our bodies and minds to carry out their own agenda.”
White contends that the aliens’ focus lies not in government control, but rather in the manipulation and utilization of human beings to fulfill their undisclosed objectives. She expresses a sense of resignation, acknowledging that humans play a vital role in their mysterious plans.
As Mable White’s testimony brings to light the secrets behind her alleged alien encounters, it leaves us with more questions than answers. What is the true purpose behind the hybridization program? What role do humans play in the extraterrestrial agenda?
Mack hypothesized that these entities might have just come from a parallel universe rather than from space. When he finally published his book “Abduction: Human Encounters with Aliens,” he claimed that his experiences had “amply corroborated” Hopkins and Jacobs’ research, “particularly that the abduction phenomena is in some central way implicated in a breeding program that leads to the development of alien/human hybrid progeny.” Almost all of his abductees returned with “a resolve to changing their relationship to the earth,” which led him to the further conclusion that the aliens were bearing warnings about threats to the planet. The idea of alien hybridization has recently been endorsed by former CIA John Ramirez. In an interview with Project Unity, Ramirez stated that humans are hybrids. According to him, former US Intelligence agent Lue Elizondo is unable to use the word “hybridization,” but the Pentagon employees are counting on him to do so eventually.
Elizondo discusses the possibility that non-human intelligence has been in contact with humans for a very long time on the Theories of Everything podcast. This would imply that we have all forgotten about our own past, which would hide the possibility that we are hybrids of humans and extraterrestrials.
Moreover, the alien abduction of Kim Carlsberg, a commercial photographer, is a modern-day case of alien-human hybridization. She was abducted by a grey alien in 1988 while she was living on the beach in Pacific Palisades. She cliamed that the beings used her DNA and combined it with someone else’s sperm, creating hybrid children. These fetuses were then grown on the alien spaceships, and in some instances, abductees reported being allowed to see the hybrid offspring during subsequent encounters.
The nature and purpose behind these reported hybridization programs remain speculative. Some theories suggest that extraterrestrial beings may be attempting to create a new species or reintroduce hybrids to Earth in the future when conditions are more suitable. Carlsberg herself expressed her belief that something strange and potentially significant is occurring to individuals who claim to have been abducted. The prevalence of such reports and the emotional impact described by abductees contribute to the ongoing discussion and exploration of this puzzling phenomenon.
Tom DeLonge, the former lead vocalist and guitarist of the popular band Blink-182, has always had a keen interest in UFOs. He has spent many years researching and studying the topic. He has even formed a company, To The Stars Academy of Arts and Science (or To The Stars) to investigate and promote research on UFOs and other related phenomena.
DeLonge’s To The Stars is behind publishing the three footages (captured in 2004 and 2015 by the US Navy) that were released in 2017 and 2018. They depict UFOs and include audio recordings of the pilots. These videos gained a lot of attention when they were released.
His interest in UFOs began at a young age. As a child, DeLonge was fascinated by stories of alien encounters and sightings. He used to spend hours reading books and watching documentaries about UFOs, and was particularly interested in the famous Roswell incident of 1947, where a UFO allegedly crashed in New Mexico.
DeLonge’s research led him to conclude that UFOs are real and that they are of extra-terrestrial origin. He believes that there is a wealth of evidence to support this conclusion, including reports of sightings and encounters, as well as physical evidence such as radar tracks and photographs.
During a podcast with Daniel P Carter of BBC Radio 1 Rock, DeLonge disclosed that he has a secret official Pentagon document from a UFO program that shows telekinesis is a real ability. He believes that telekinesis has been proven in the lab and that consciousness precedes matter, and once we discover that, life is going to get very interesting.
He suggests that we have the ability to heal ourselves and create new types of Sciences and Engineering tweets. He also believes that telepathy is going to be a part of it, and that they have found an area in the brain that they believe is where telepathy happens. He thinks that once people accept all of the stuff that they have been talking about, it’s going to change the world. Below is the transcript of his conversation with Carter:
“I always tell people there is this really cool document (that I have) that was a part of the UFO program where they were studying a kid in China who can move objects with his mind. He is around 10 years old, so they wanted to figure out how that’s possible, and they recreated it in the lab.
I have the whole Department of Defense document, and it goes through it and says they were able to put a piece of paper in a glass jar, screw the lid on it, and move the paper through the lid and then six feet across the floor, all with their mind. 100 people can do this, only 10 have mastered it, and it was just wild.
So telekinesis has been proven in the lab, but no one knows about it. I’m like, to be able to move things with the force, like in Star Wars, is a big deal. It sounds ridiculous, that’s why, and within the current paradigm, it sounds ridiculous. I’m sure, or you won’t remember, but we had a conversation at the Reading Festival many years ago where I think I probably came across as a total maniac, even to someone as open-minded as yourself. But, I was talking about reading a bunch of different things, which means nothing, but I was looking at different realms of consciousness because that’s the basis of everything I believe.
I believe that consciousness precedes matter and I highly agree with you. Because the current paradigm is that consciousness is a facet that’s created by matter, which is just this weird thing that’s come about because our brains are complicated and that’s nonsense. I think it’s exactly the opposite and once we discover that stuff, life is going to get very interesting.
Once we discover that mind over matter, not the other way around, we will have the ability to heal ourselves, create new types of Sciences and Engineering, and become a civilization where telepathy is a part of it. I believe that’s all going to happen. There is one person, who was up for the Nobel last year, is one of the top geneticists in the world, at one of the Ivy League schools that we are working with, who worked on part of the UFO program at the Pentagon. I was talking to him, and they found an area in the brain that they believe is where telepathy happens, and he believes he can create something to enhance it by a thousand times, like some type of drug that targets that area of the brain.
So, that’s the thing, people do think it’s ridiculous, but not the people who have an open enough mind to research and jump in. These guys are like World leading PhDs, and that’s been the kind of the story of my life, is everything I’ve told, even on Rogan, is not made up, it’s coming from somewhere, and I can’t say where it’s coming from, but at the end of the day, it’s all real. I think it’s going to be a very exciting time once people accept all of the stuff that we’ve been talking about here on this interview, I think it’s going to really change the world.”
Moreover, as in the January 2022 Thrasher Magazine issue, DeLonge was asked: “Would you say UFOs are driven by aliens or do you think it’s more like a drone?” He replied: “I think both.” He suggested that it is important to note that while studying UFOs, we must be aware of the fact that they could be remotely controlled and may have occupants. (Source)
“I think the biggest misconception is that they are coming from other planets. Evidence doesn’t really support that. The evidence supports that it’s dimensional and that it’s parallel timelines that exist with frequency. It’s really complicated, different, and interesting. But once you understand that, you have no way out of reexamining the religious world and wondering what the Star of Bethlehem really was,” DeLonge explained.
Further, he was asked if UFOs or aliens are coming from the oceans. He said that while the origin of UFOs is a separate conversation, it is believed that they do exist in our oceans. With the use of sensors placed throughout the ocean to detect submarines and other objects, it has been reported that there have been sightings of unidentified submerged objects (USOs).
In one instance, a helicopter pilot was testing torpedoes, and a navy SEAL was sent down on a wire to retrieve the torpedo. However, as soon as he touched the water, a large craft came underneath him, took the torpedo, and left at the high speed. The navy SEAL was in shock and panicked, requesting to be pulled up immediately. Although there were initial plans to have the witnesses speak on television, they later backed out, and some of them testified to the committee. Nonetheless, similar incidents continue to occur frequently, and it is, indeed, extraordinary.
DeLonge’s views on UFOs have been met with both praise and criticism. Some people believe that his research is valuable and that it is important to investigate and study UFOs in an open and honest manner. Others believe that DeLonge’s opinion is misguided and that there is no evidence to support his conclusions.
Despite the criticism, DeLonge remains committed to his research and wants to continue promoting the truth about UFOs. He believes that UFOs are real and that they are of extra-terrestrial origin, and that the truth about UFOs should be investigated and studied openly and honestly. Through his work To The Stars, DeLonge hopes to bring more attention to the topic of UFOs and to promote research and discussion about this fascinating phenomenon.
Despite an effort to rebrand UFOs, the stigma remains.
They are now called “unidentified anomalous phenomena” (UAP), and currently, U.S. officials are aware of more than 800 cases since 1996. On Wednesday the public got to hear from Pentagon personnel and members of a special Avengers-esque team of experts that NASA convened last year. They detailed what’s known so far about these puzzling sightings, and what the future holds.
“I think the very term ‘UAP’ was intended to get away from the assumptions and baggage that are part of the term ‘UFO,’” NASA UAP team member Mike Gold said to reporters on Wednesday afternoon, following the public presentation. Gold is the executive vice president of Civil Space and External Affairs at Redwire in Jacksonville, Florida. Prior to Redwire, Gold worked at NASA in several roles, including associate administrator for Space Policy and Partnerships.
“I believe words matter. Words have power. And I think what was trying to be achieved with that terminology [‘UAP’], what we’re trying to do with this group, is to be agnostic, to be objective, and to look at this issue purely from a scientific perspective, without bias,” he said.
One of several UAP reported by military personnel, sparking recent debates.
WHY NASA SHOULD STAY IN THE UAP GAME
One idea that Gold floated was the creation of a NASA UAP office. The space agency is months away from publishing its official recommendations for the Pentagon’s All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO), which runs the investigations and is charged with figuring them out. NASA is playing a different, yet special, role. Of the more than 800 UAP reports since 1996, AARO director Sean Kirkpatrick said Wednesday that several dozen of them — roughly two to five percent — remain unsolved.
They might stay that way, too. Members of the NASA team like Federica Bianco, joint professor at the University of Delaware in the Department of Physics and Astrophysics, the Biden School of Public Policy and Administration and a senior scientist at the Multi-city Urban Observatory, said Wednesday that the data on the unresolved UAP sightings was poor. The team argued that a proactive approach could be the way.
Gold was skeptical about the pace of the UAP work, and how it might dwindle without a dedicated office at NASA.
“As we mentioned previously during the panel, I’ve been part of far too many blue-ribbon studies and groups that produce reports that have just laid on the shelf. I think we have an inflection point, an opportunity here, with leadership that [NASA] Administrator Bill Nelson has showed, to institutionalize this and be able to tackle the issues that we’ve laid out in a comprehensive and serious fashion. I think that requires a permanent office at NASA to effectively deal with the issues that we’ve laid out,” Gold said.
“None of the topics or challenges here can be dealt with quickly. And it really requires a permanent solution. And I think that can be implemented for a modest financial cost,” he added. “So that’s certainly something that I can say personally we’ll be pushing and recommending to proceed with. If we don’t institutionalize something at NASA, the fear is it can go away far too quickly.”
After Gold’s remarks, Daniel Evans, the assistant deputy associate administrator for research at NASA’s Science Mission Directorate, clarified that if and when NASA would seek funding for a UAP office is unknown. But it would be public, just as are all NASA budgetary requests.
To help AARO investigate UAP and their potential threat to airspace safety, a NASA UAP office could continue the team’s work. Their work may end later this summer, once they file their report to AARO, where they might recommend uses for existing technology to observe UAP phenomena as it happens, and provide what several team members called an analytic “roadmap.”
A NASA office would also continue perhaps its biggest contribution of all: a strong emphasis on the scientific method. This would deter UAP stigma, the team argued. With less stigma, there’d be less harassment of the team, and perhaps more witnesses would come forward and report their own UAP experiences.
There are roadblocks, according to David Spergel, team leader and president of the Simons Foundation.
“I feel, in addressing this issue, we steer between the rocks and the cyclone. We have a community of people who are completely convinced of the existence of UFOs. And we have a community of people who think addressing this question is ridiculous,” he said. “I think as scientists the way to approach questions is, start by saying, ‘we don’t know.’ And then you collect data, and you try to calibrate your data well.”
Spergel then offered a new take on a common analogy. “The first step if you want to find needles in haystacks when you don’t even know what to look for, is you want to learn and to characterize the haystack really well. If you understand hay well, and measure and observe hay well, you can find things… I think the biggest challenge is that you have a community out there that thinks the haystack is filled with gold. And another community saying you’re nuts to look in a haystack for anything interesting. There’s nothing there.”
Solar power is the fastest-growing form of renewable energy and currently accounts for 3.6% of global electricity production today. This makes it the third largest source of the renewable energy market, followed by hydroelectric power and wind. These three methods are expected to grow exponentially in the coming decades, reaching 40% by 2035 and 45% by 2050. Altogether, renewables are expected to account for 90% of the energy market by mid-century, with solar accounting for roughly half. However, several technical challenges and issues need to be overcome for this transition to occur.
The main limiting factor for solar power is intermittency, meaning it can only collect power when sufficient sunlight is available. To address this, scientists have spent decades researching space-based solar power (SBSP), where satellites in orbit would collect power 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, without interruption. To develop the technology, researchers with the Space Solar Power Project (SSPP) at Caltech recently completed the first successful wireless power transfer using the Microwave Array for Power-transfer Low-orbit Experiment (MAPLE).
MAPLE was developed by a Caltech team led by Ali Hajimiri, the Bren Professor of Electrical Engineering and Medical Engineering and the co-director of the SSPP. MAPLE is one of three key technologies tested by the Space Solar Power Demonstrator (SSPD-1). This platform consists of an array of flexible, lightweight microwave transmitters controlled by custom electronic chips. The demonstrator was built using low-cost silicon technologies designed to harvest solar energy and beam it to desired receiving stations worldwide.
The SSPP began in 2011 when Donald Bren, a lifetime member of the Caltech Board of Trustees, approached Caltech’s then-president Jean-Lou Chameau to discuss the creation of an SBSP research project. Bren and his wife (also a Caltech trustee) agreed to donate a total of $100 million to fund the project, while the Northrop Grumman Corporation provided an additional $12.5 million. The SSPD-1 launched on January 3rd atop a SpaceX Falcon 9 as part of a rideshare program and was deployed by a Vigoride spacecraft (provided by aerospace company Momentus).
For SBSP to be feasible, the satellites need to be lightweight so they can be launched in a cost-effective way and flexible so they can fit inside payload fairings (similar to the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). Harry Atwater, the Otis Booth Leadership Chair of the Division of Engineering and Applied Science, the Howard Hughes Professor of Applied Physics and Materials Science, and the Director of the Liquid Sunlight Alliance, is one of the project’s principal investigators. As he explained in a Caltech press release:
“Demonstration of wireless power transfer in space using lightweight structures is an important step toward space solar power and broad access to it globally. Solar panels already are used in space to power the International Space Station, for example, but to launch and deploy large enough arrays to provide power to Earth, SSPP has to design and create solar power energy transfer systems that are ultra-lightweight, cheap, and flexible.”
Each SSPP unit weighs around 50 kilograms (~110 lbs), comparable with microsatellites that typically weigh between 10 and 100 kg (22 to 220 lbs). Each unit folds into packages about 1 m3 (~35 ft3) in volume and then unfurls into a flat square measuring about 50 m (164 ft) in diameter, with solar cells on one side and wireless power transmitters on the other. The SPPD-1 components are unsealed, meaning they are exposed to the extreme temperature variations of space. Beyond demonstrating that power transmitters can survive being launched into space, the experiment has provided useful feedback to SSPP engineers.
“Through the experiments we have run so far, we received confirmation that MAPLE can transmit power successfully to receivers in space,” said Hajimiri. “We have also been able to program the array to direct its energy toward Earth, which we detected here at Caltech. We had, of course, tested it on Earth, but now we know that it can survive the trip to space and operate there.”
The demonstrator has no moving parts and relies on constructive and destructive interference between transmission antennas to shift the focus and direction of the beamed energy. These antennas are clustered in groups of 16, each driven by a custom-made flexible integrated circuit chip. They also rely on precise timing-control elements and the coherent addition of electromagnetic waves to ensure the beamed energy reaches the intended target. Two receiver arrays are positioned about 30 cm (1 ft) from the transmission antennas that convert solar energy into direct current (DC).
This is used to power a pair of LED lights, demonstrating the full sequence of wireless energy transmission. MAPLE successfully demonstrated this by lighting up each LED individually and shifting back and forth between them. MAPLE also includes a small window through which the array can beam energy, which was detected by a receiver at Caltech’s Gordon and Betty Moore Laboratory of Engineering. This signal was received at the expected time and frequency and had the predicted frequency shift based on its orbit.
“To the best of our knowledge, no one has ever demonstrated wireless energy transfer in space even with expensive rigid structures,” said Hajimiri. “We are doing it with flexible lightweight structures and with our own integrated circuits. This is a first.” The team is now assessing the performance of individual system elements by testing the interference patterns of smaller groups and measuring the difference between combinations. This process could take up to six months, giving the team ample time to detect irregularities and develop solutions to inform the next generation of solar satellites.
In addition to MAPLE, the SSPD-1 carries two other main experiments. These are the Deployable on-Orbit ultraLight Composite Experiment (DOLCE), a 1.8 x 1.8-meter (6 x 6-foot) structure designed to deploy small modular spacecraft, and ALBA, a series of 32 different types of photovoltaic cells to test which are most effective in space. The ALBA tests are ongoing while DOLCE has not yet been deployed, and results from these experiments are expected in the coming months. Meanwhile, the results from the MAPLE experiment are very encouraging and demonstrate key SBSP technologies are feasible. Said Hajimiri:
“In the same way that the internet democratized access to information, we hope that wireless energy transfer democratizes access to energy. No energy transmission infrastructure will be needed on the ground to receive this power. That means we can send energy to remote regions and areas devastated by war or natural disaster.”
SBSP has the potential to yield eight times more power than solar panels located on Earth’s surface. When the project is fully realized, Caltech hopes to deploy a constellation of modular spacecraft that will collect solar power, transform it into electricity, and convert it to microwaves that can be transmitted wirelessly over anywhere in the world. In addition to assisting the transition towards clean, renewable energy, it also has the potential to expand access for underserved communities. Said Caltech President Thomas F. Rosenbaum:
“The transition to renewable energy, critical for the world’s future, is limited today by energy storage and transmission challenges. Beaming solar power from space is an elegant solution that has moved one step closer to realization due to the generosity and foresight of the Brens. Donald Bren has presented a formidable technical challenge that promises a remarkable payoff for humanity: a world powered by uninterruptible renewable energy.”
