Central Weekend - S E T I. What do Aliens look like & have we been visited? Please read description.
Central Weekend take a look at what Aliens look like and some of these astronomers are off their rocker. Another one sided argument rigged up against Ufologists. Heather Cooper is so full of herself and is ignorantly cocky. They obviously come on here just to bait the audience and have a laugh and think they're being funny.
On December 25, 2021, the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) launched toward its new home about a million miles from Earth. After months of instrument calibration, flight time, and testing, the world beheld its first science images one year ago today. On JWST’s first anniversary, we look back on the best images the telescope produced in its debut year.
When NASA, the European Space Agency, and the Canadian Space Agency released the first glimmers of what their next-generation telescope was capable of, astronomers and the general public got a deeper look into the wonders of the universe.
From the corners of the Solar System to the farthest-seen reaches of space, JWST has stared into a broad spectrum of worlds. Here are some of the highlights over the last year.
THE EARLY UNIVERSE
Light pours forth from the deepest recesses of the universe and snags onto the four instruments housed within JWST. Much of this light hasn’t been seen before by human eyes. Last year’s observations revealed contours to faraway galaxies that previously looked like blurry dots. Those that already had a bit of shape to them are coming into sharper focus, now that they have met an instrument sensitive enough to notice their faint beacons from across the universe.
1. A glance at the PEARLS field
This Prime Extragalactic Areas for Reionization and Lensing Science (PEARLS) survey image brims with thousands of galaxies. The farthest are from roughly 13.5 billion years ago, just slightly younger than the age of the universe. Some have never been seen before, while others emerge clearer than ever before with “streams, tails, shells, and halos of stars” in their outskirts. PEARLS looked at the constellation Draco in August and September 2022.
2.The JADES field
The JWST Advanced Deep Extragalactic Survey (JADES) program not only viewed galaxies from just 350 million years after the Big Bang, but it also collected data about what elements might be inside them. For the team involved in the work, the sight of these ancient galaxies in JWST’s stunning imagery was a “special experience.”
RINGS AND EXOPLANETS
When JWST glimpses other stars and the ensemble of objects orbiting them, astronomers get an idea about the universe to which the Sun and the Earth were born. JWST is capable of rendering extraordinary details about relatively obscure celestial bodies that emit no light themselves. So far, the telescope has gleaned data from some of the atmospheres, and has even confirmed rings, around these extrasolar worlds.
3. Chariklo
Chariklo is a small icy body that, like the planet Saturn, has rings. JWST helped confirm the existence of the rings when it saw the blinks created when Chariklo and its rings passed in front of a star. Although Chariklo is more than 2 billion miles away from Saturn, JWST’s observations may possibly be a trove of information on fine details about the rings, like their thicknesses and the color of their particles. JWST studied Chariklo in October 2022.
4. Fomalhaut
When the Hubble Space Telescope had gazed at nearby Fomalhaut, this young star and its pre-planetary disk of material looked like an oval haze. New JWST imagery shows a more in-depth picture. Fomalhaut’s two inner rings are visible for the first time, with clear divisions possibly being the place where exoplanets are carving out the cloud. A third ring, located at the disk’s outermost edge, may be a scene where two icy young planets are slamming into each other, and creating what JWST sees as a halo.
NEBULAS
Nebulas are places where the remnants of stellar deaths come back together to form a new generation of stars. Their processes are critical to understanding how the most basic units of our universe are born. JWST’s sensitivity also makes for stunning images of these already eye-catching places.
5.Pillars of Creation
The Pillars of Creation appear “in their full glory” as JWST’s Mid-Infrared Instrument narrowed in on the columns of dust and gas that lend their majesty to this object’s name. The Pillars of Creation are a portion of the Eagle Nebula, a stellar nursery located 6,500 light-years away. Astronomers can use this imagery to better understand how the young stars form in this region.
6. A protoplanetary disk in the Orion Nebula
In another nebula closer to Earth, about 1,350 light-years away, there lies the Orion Nebula. In the protoplanetary disk around a young star, JWST discovered a special molecule associated with the formation of life’s building blocks. The observations also produced some of JWST’s most beautiful imagery.
THE OUTER SOLAR SYSTEM
JWST has peered into the far reaches of the Solar System. Neptune and Uranus appear with a clarity that hasn’t been seen since the Voyager missions decades ago. In the case of Jupiter and Saturn, JWST has offered a grand perspective from its near-Earth perch.
7. Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune
An almost surreal look at Saturn (top right) has already excited astronomers who would like to discover new, faint rings around the dazzling planet. The absorption of light that JWST notices across this global view could also tell astronomers something about how seasons play out on Saturn. JWST gazed at Saturn in June 2023.
JWST observations of Neptune (bottom right) offer a muted color alternative to the bright blue seen through visible light. Astronomers have gained their best look at Neptune since Voyager 2 flew past the distant giant in 1989. The infrared wavelengths that JWST is designed to soak up could reveal, in Neptune’s case, a deeper understanding about its stormy weather. JWST took this picture of Neptune in July 2022.
When JWST got a spectacular view of Uranus (bottom left), six of its 27 moons also came into view. One of the most vivid elements of the imagery are Uranus’ rings, which are fully visible because the planet rotates on its side, almost like a bowling ball. Out of 13 rings, 11 of them are visible in the JWST image taken in February 2023.
Jupiter (top left) and its relatively-unknown moon Amalthea made a splash in JWST imagery. The poles of the giant planet are coated with a localized glow: these are actually auroras as they appear in infrared light.
8. Enceladus
The Cassini mission discovered last decade that Saturn’s moon Enceladus has geysers. This hints at a deep ocean below the tiny moon, potentially capable of sustaining life. From its distant vantage point, JWST noticed a particularly massive plume erupting from its surface, capable of lifting icy particles off the moon into the rest of the Saturn system.
STELLAR FORMATION
9. Phantom Galaxy
Thanks to JWST’s observations of spiral galaxies like NGC 628, astronomers can follow the channels and lanes of star-making dust and gas. JWST’s infrared data reveals the interplay between phenomena at both big and small scales, and offers a way to understand how local starbursts are related to a galaxy’s grand overall structure. NGC 628 is also known as the Phantom Galaxy or Messier 74, and it’s located relatively nearby at just 32 million light-years away.
10. Protostar L1527
JWST looked at an object not yet a star, which might resemble what the Sun looked like billions of years ago. The bright point at the center of this JWST image, protostar L1527, is only 100,000 years old, and much too young to have kickstarted the nuclear fusion quintessential to stars. The hourglass shape is created as the protostar and its protoplanetary disk emanate heat out into the shroud of material that swaddles it.
PLANETARY DEFENSE
11. Dimorphos
JWST caught the moment that NASA successfully slammed its Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) spacecraft into the asteroid Dimorphos, a moon of the near-Earth asteroid Didymos. This animation begins with JWST footage just before the impact through five hours after the strike. JWST captured plumes of material lofted into space away from the impact site. DART and the JWST footage took place in September 2022.
There is much more that JWST captured of our cosmic home in the last year. The slate of upcoming targets is a promising sign that the best images are still to come.

IN BEELD.

This UFO Photo CANNOT be Debunked!
This UFO Photo CANNOT be Debunked!
In the realm of unexplained phenomena and potential extraterrestrial encounters, one story that stands tall above many others is that of an allegedly authentic UFO photograph taken over Costa Rica’s Lake Cote in September 1971. The picture was captured by Sergio Luiza while he was on an aerial mission, surveying the landscape for map creation. What started as a seemingly ordinary survey mission quickly turned into a tale that would captivate UFO enthusiasts and researchers worldwide for decades to come.
The peculiar snapshot that Luiza took presented a disc-like object, glistening near the edge of the frame above the lake. The mysterious object bore an uncanny resemblance to the classic depiction of a Flying Saucer – a feature that has made this photo a centerpiece in numerous debates and discussions around UFO sightings.
Interestingly, this photo did not gain the prominence it deserved until 2021, when attorney and UFO enthusiast Esteban Carranza managed to obtain a copy of the original negative. Carranza’s attempt to produce a high-quality scan of the photo created a stir among the UFO enthusiast community, rekindling interest in the picture that had laid dormant for decades.
After Carranza released the enhanced image on Twitter, the internet was set ablaze with countless theories and debates, challenging experts and enthusiasts alike to decipher the anomaly captured in the photograph. Journalist MJ Banayas pointed out an intriguing aspect of the photograph: the frame preceding this snapshot and the one following it showed no signs of the disc-like object. This anomaly gave birth to a slew of theories, including notions of the object being capable of cloaking itself, moving at incredible speeds, or even having interdimensional capabilities.
Speculation around the UFO sighting was fueled further by the geographical context. The photograph was taken near the Arenal Volcano, which was the most active in Costa Rica until 2010. This coincidence did not go unnoticed by ufologists, who often theorize that alien craft might be attracted to high-energy sites like volcanoes for potential refueling.
While there is endless debate about the why and the how of the phenomenon, one question remains: What exactly is this disc-like object? Experts have weighed in, ruling out the possibility of a hoax. Mark d’Antonio, an astronomer and video effects designer, pointed out that the light and shadow on the disc did not match those on the terrain, making it unlikely to be a physical object similar to the standard conception of a UFO.
D’Antonio’s theory suggests the anomaly might be due to a fracture in the glass covering of the camera caused by a gravel strike, akin to a chip in a car windshield. However, this theory, too, fails to explain why the object appeared in only one of the frames.

The Proof Is Out There: UFO Photo CANNOT be Debunked! (Season 3)
Astrophotographer Andrew McCarthy further examined the photograph and, based on the focal length, deduced that the object had to be at least 48 feet long. Given that the photograph was taken in 1971, it rules out the possibility of the object being a drone or any modern aircraft.
With the experts ruling out conventional explanations and admitting the presence of a genuine unidentified flying object, the Costa Rican UFO photograph continues to spark curiosity and intrigue. This unexplained snapshot from the past serves as a compelling testament to the existence of the inexplicable and invites us to wonder about the endless possibilities the universe may hold.
Despite thorough analyses and examinations, the peculiar UFO sighting over Lake Cote remains an enigma to this day. As intriguing as the photo itself is the mismatch between the shadows and the light, further deepening the mystery. Thus, while the Costa Rican UFO photo continues to capture imagination and fascination, the quest to truly understand this enigma from the skies remains an open journey – a testament to our enduring curiosity about the unexplained.
Congressman on intelligence committee says aliens 'have the technology to turn humans into charcoal briquettes' and Government has been covering up UFO existence since 1890
Congressman on intelligence committee says aliens 'have the technology to turn humans into charcoal briquettes' and Government has been covering up UFO existence since 1890
Tennessee congressman revealed he has seen compelling evidence of UFOs
He said aliens have technology that could 'turn us into a charcoal briquette'
A Tennessee congressman investigating UFOs claims the crafts appear to 'defy physics as we know it.'
Republican Tim Burchett believes there is no question the objects in the skies are not of this Earth and have abilities to fly underwater and never leave behind heat trails.
Burchett - who is on the House Oversight Committee overseeing UFO hearings - has been shown classified footage not yet released to the public.
The congressman told the Event Horizon podcast this week that 'we've been dealing [with government coverups] since 1947, probably since about 1897 in what was the Aurora Texas 'UFO crash.'
'They [extraterrestrial craft] can travel light years or at the speeds that we've seen defy physics as we know it,' Burchett said during the podcast.
'They can fly underwater and don't show a heat trail.'
He continued to explain that if these otherworldly beings have technology unlike anything we know on Earth, then 'they' could 'turn us into a charcoal briquette.'
'We are out of our league,' the congressman continued. 'We couldn't fight them off what we wanted to. That's why I don't think they're a threat to us, or they would already have been.'
Republican Tim Burchett urges the US government to be honest with Congress and the public about the strange sightings in the skies. He said he is 100 percent sure he has seen compelling evidence of UFOs
Burchett believes secrecy comes down to power, corruption and money's influence.
The statements appear to piggyback on those made by the Pentagon whistleblower who claimed this month that the US has run a top-secret UFO retrieval program for decades - and some of the 'non-human intelligence' discovered are malevolent and have even killed humans.
Grusch is a decorated Afghanistan combat officer who went on to work for the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) and the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO).
In interviews and classified briefings on Capitol Hill, Grusch has said that the US and other nations are also engaged in a top-secret '80-year arms race' to weaponize the crashed UFOs.
'The existence of complex historical programs involving the coordinated retrieval and study of exotic materials, dating back to the early 20th century, should no longer remain a secret,' in Grusch's view.
Florida Senator Marco Rubio also revealed he had been approached by several high-ranking government officials with top-level security clearances who said they had 'first-hand' knowledge of UFO programs.
Grusch has claimed that the information he received has been illegally withheld from Congress as the military, the intelligence community and their private contractors have raced to take advantage of the technology quietly.
Burchett claims the crafts defy physics. They have abilities to fly underwater and never leave behind heat trails
Burchett made the statements in a recent podcast, claiming the government is aware of the technology and has been covering it up since the 1890s when a news clipping described an 'airship' crashing down from the sky
And this is what Burchett and his colleagues hope to overcome in the upcoming UFO hearings.
'We don't need to fund anybody anymore. Let's just turn loose the reports, quit with the redacted reports that look like Swiss cheese with everything whited out or blacked out, and just give us all the information and let the American public decide,' he said, speaking with Event Horizon's host John Michael Godier.
'We can handle it. Stop with the arrogance. Stop with the corruption. Let's get it all out there.'
Burchett claimed the government is already aware of the technology and has been covering it up since the 1890s when a news clipping described an 'airship' crashing down from the sky.
When asked if the strange things we see in the skies might impact national or global security because it is not of this world, the congressman quickly answered: '100 percent, no question.'
The statements appear to piggyback on those made by Pentagon whistleblower David Grusch, who claimed the US has run a top-secret UFO retrieval program for decades - and some of the 'non-human intelligence' discovered are malevolent and have even killed humans.
New lab analysis of the metal spheres reveals they are 'anomalous' and stronger than any observed meteor produced by nature, according to Professor Avi Loeb, former chair of Harvard's astronomy department who led the research
Burchett is sure that there is a massive cover-up by the government that stems back to that recorded incident in Texas, which claimed an airship fell from the sky.
The newspaper clipping states locals spotted an airship sailing through the skies at six o'clock in the morning, which was traveling at 'a speed of only 10 or 12 miles per hour.'
The report claims it soared over the public square and smashed into a windmill, where it broke into pieces 'in a terrifying explosion.'
The clipping continues to explain that a single pilot was in the ship and his remains were badly disfigured, but not enough to know that 'he was not an inhabitant of this world.'
T.J. Weems, US signal service officer, claimed he was a native of the planet Mars.
The news clipping ends with a note about the pilot's funeral taking place the next day and it is said the remains are buried in the town.
However, a 1980 Time magazine interview with Etta Pegues, an 86-year-old Aurora resident, claimed that the reporter made up the story to bring tourists to town.
The disputed story echoes what happened in Roswell, New Mexico in 1974 - a UFO was claimed to have crashed, but the story was later denied.
'Anybody who could connect the dots with Roswell isn't alive to do that,' said Burchett, who said evidence from the crash could have been given to a private company for secrecy.
He explained that billion-dollar corporations have similar capabilities to the US government.
'So if the government gave them something 60 years ago, you know, say they recovered something and handed it over to a company, and it's easier to keep it secret this way than it is to keep it within government,' said the congressman.
The first data release from the CEERS survey features a region known as the Extended Groth Strip and sends viewers back to shortly after the Big Bang.
A new 3D visualization from the James Webb Space Telescope takes viewers on a journey back in time to just after the Big Bang.
In the video, over 5,000 galaxies can be seen in gorgeous full color and three dimensions. The cosmic journey begins with relatively nearby galaxies located within a few billion light-years of Earth and concludes at Maisie's Galaxy, which at 13.4 billion light-years from Earth is one of the most distant galaxies ever observed by humanity and is seen as it was just around 390 million years after the Big Bang.
As such, this new James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) video doesn't just represent a journey through space but also a trip back through time, rewinding cosmic evolution back to a period when the 13.8 billion-year-old universe was under a third of its current age.
The video is the result of data collected by the Cosmic Evolution Early Release Science Survey (CEERS) and explores a region of space called the Extended Groth Strip. The Extended Groth Strip is located between the constellations of Ursa Major and Boötes and contains around 100,000 galaxies. It was extensively imaged by the Hubble Space Telescope between 2004 and 2005, and the new observations by the JWST build on the groundwork laid by Hubble.
Of particular interest to astronomers in this visualization is Maisie's Galaxy, serving as an example of the kind of early galaxy that the JWST is capable of studying. The powerful space telescope does this by observing the universe in infrared.
This is useful because as light from early galaxies travels billions of years to reach us, the expansion and the universe and the fact that it loses energy causes its wavelength to "stretch." This results in electromagnetic radiation that left the galaxies shortly after the Big Bang as optical light being "redshifted" down the electromagnetic spectrum past the red end of the visible light spectrum to infrared. The longer the light has traveled, the more extreme the redshift it experiences, making infrared the best way to see early galaxies.
"This observatory just opens up this entire period of time for us to study," Rochester Institute of Technology researcher and CEERS investigator Rebecca Larson said in a statement. "We couldn't study galaxies like Maisie's before because we couldn't see them. Now, not only are we able to find them in our images, we're able to find out what they're made of and if they differ from the galaxies that we see close by."
The goal of investigations using the CEERS data will be to learn more about the formation of early galaxies.
"We're used to thinking of galaxies as smoothly growing," Finkelstein concluded. "But maybe these stars are forming like firecrackers. Are these galaxies forming more stars than expected? Are the stars they're making more massive than we expect? These data have given us the information to ask these questions. Now, we need more data to get those answers."

Ross Coulthart’s statement on an alleged huge UFO buried outside the United States unleashed a storm in the UFO community. He claims that he knows the exact location of this craft. Now, UFO enthusiasts are hunting the alleged site where this gigantic immovable craft could possibly be sitting. There is no confirmation from Coulthart about the nature of this craft if it was retrieved. However, some have speculated this could be an archeological dig. Could this particular craft potentially be a remnant of a bygone civilization?
Scientists have explored the possibility of detecting ancient civilizations in Earth’s geological record. A recent paper called “The Silurian Hypothesis” discusses how traces of industrial civilizations could be found. While fossils and artifacts are unlikely to survive over millions of years, anomalous changes in chemical compositions could serve as clues. By studying geological anomalies and applying models to other planets, scientists hope to understand if civilizations existed in the distant past.
NASA has spent many years seeking the truth regarding extraterrestrial life. Furthermore, the space agency has never denied the existence of non-human life beyond Earth in any form. This is sufficient to discuss the idea of non-human life existing beyond Earth in any form, from the microscopic to the macroscopic. Avi Loeb, a professor at Harvard, has supported the idea that there may have been earlier civilizations on both Earth and Mars, and that these civilizations may have been the origin of UAPs.
He writes: “Planets like Mars or Earth could have given multiple births to technological civilizations that were a billion years apart and hence were not aware of each other. Like stable parents, the planets recovered from the environmental impact of these civilizations over time. We may have been separated in time from siblings that we never had the opportunity to meet and so we are unaware of their existence.”
Considering these two possibilities, former Pentagon UFO official Lue Elizondo shared a truly eye-opening statement in his interview with James Iandoli of Engaging The Phenomenon on June 11, 2021. They discussed crash retrievals and materials related to unidentified flying objects (UFOs) or unidentified aerial phenomena (UAPs). Elizondo acknowledged the sensitivity of the topic and the potential consequences of discussing it openly.
However, Elizondo expressed his belief that the US government does possess exotic materials but could not provide further details due to the lack of transparency from the government. He mentioned the three layers of analysis that can be conducted on a piece of material, namely physical, chemical, and atomic or nano-level research.
Rogan asked: “Have you ever asked anyone that has any inkling of any idea of where they got them or how they got them?” Lazar replied, “No, but something must have been said to me from Barry (his lab partner) and… but I… I can’t quite remember what was said, but it just left a seed in my mind. I think at least one of them was part of an archaeological dig, so it’s old. Something, that one at least one of them is old. I don’t know if it was the one I worked on, but I remember something to do with an archaeological dig.”
He suggested that if a piece of material exhibits engineered characteristics and peculiarities outside the normal range of known materials, it raises questions about its origin and the technology used to create it. He concluded by using an analogy of finding an out-of-place object in King Tut’s tomb to illustrate the significance of finding advanced materials before our known technology existed.
“Let’s say nickel or aluminum or magnesium or bismuth. Then you have to say, ‘Okay, who created it and how?’ And at the end of the day, when you have material that has been found before, supposedly, we as a species had a technology to engineer it that way, then you’ve got to ask the question. And this is why I’ve said before, you know, a 747 isn’t uncommon to see at an international airport.
But imagine being the first guy to break into King Tut’s tomb, and of all the things you find in there, you find an intact 747 sitting in the tomb. Doesn’t make sense, does it? Because 747s weren’t around when King Tut was around. So, what the hell is a 747 doing in King Tut’s tomb? So, that’s the best analogy that I can use without going into further detail. I’ve tried to be very careful.
You know, I don’t want to be dismissive of your question because it’s an important question. I would ask the same exact question. But I also have to be very, very careful. And if you notice, other folks like Hal and Eric and others, they’re very careful to have this conversation too. Yeah, okay, yeah, it’s not just me. I’m not just being paranoid and cagey here. There’s… You’re actually the most out in the open. They’re… They still, you know…”
Many members of the UFO community interpreted Elizondo’s analogy as a subtle hint that UFOs could be considered as archaeological findings. Surprisingly, on the Joe Rogan Experience, Bob Lazar recalls hearing that at least one of the recovered UFOs was found during an archaeological dig, suggesting that it is ancient rather than simply old.
Mr. Loeb believes it is possible that some of the technological advancement devices made by early inhabitants of Mars and Earth are still operational elsewhere in the Solar System. He suggests that “in that case, old flying gadgets could be a source of some of the Unidentified Aerial Phenomena in reports from the Director of National Intelligence to the US Congress.” (Source)
Professor Loeb is not alone in thinking of the advanced civilization that once inhabited Mars. Physicist John E. Brandenburg explained in this 2015 study what could have happened on Mars. The planet that once had an Earthlike atmosphere faced a massive thermonuclear explosion that destroyed its atmosphere. The study considered the Cydonian Hypothesis and Fermi’s Paradox. (Source)
In 2019, a team of astronomers led by Dr. Samantha Oates of the University of Birmingham discovered one of the most powerful transients ever seen – where astronomical objects change their brightness over a short period. Oates and her colleagues found this object, known as J221951-484240 (or J221951), using the Ultra-Violet and Optical Telescope (UVOT) on NASA’s Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory while searching for the source of a gravitational wave (GW) that was thought to be caused by two massive objects merging in our galaxy.
As they described, the team found J221951 while searching for the progenitor of a gravitational wave (GW) event (S190930t) detected by the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO) and Advanced Virgo detector on April 1st, 2019. Swift was one of several observatories participating in the search for the sources of GW candidates released by the LIGO-Virgo collaboration. Based on the GW signal, the event was thought to be the result of a kilonova, where two neutron stars merge (or a neutron star and a black hole), releasing a tremendous amount of energy and gravitational waves in the process.
Kilonova events typically appear as bright blue bursts that fade and turn redder over the next few days. But when Dr. Oats and her team viewed J221951 with Swift’s UVOT, they noticed that the transient did not appear blue or change color or fade as rapidly as expected. Follow-up observations with Hubble‘s Cosmic Origins Spectrograph (COS) obtained ultraviolet spectra from J221951, which revealed that it was not associated with the previously-detected GW event.
The spectra further indicated that the source was about 10 billion light-years distant, whereas the GW signal was detected less than 0.5 billion light-years away. “The key discovery was when the ultraviolet spectrum from Hubble ruled out a Galactic origin,” said Dr. N. Paul Kuin, a team member from the Mullard Space Science Laboratory at University College London, in a recent Royal Astronomical Society press release. “This shows how important it is to maintain a space-based UV spectrograph capability for the future.”
The team’s research suggested that J221951 resulted from an SMBH that consumed surrounding material suddenly and rapidly. This was confirmed by optical and infrared data that previously detected a red galaxy in the vicinity of J221951, and the location of the bright burst is consistent with the galaxy’s center. Furthermore, the UV spectra showed absorption features consistent with a huge release of energy, which pushed and was absorbed by gas and dust surrounding the black hole. Combined with its brightness, the data revealed that J221951 is one of the most dramatic events ever seen where a black hole suddenly “switched on.”
This discovery is part of a growing body of research that shows how SMBHs play a very active role in a galaxy’s star formation. As these behemoths gobble up material, such as gas, dust, and even stars, they release intense bursts of energy that disrupt star-forming material within the galaxy’s central region and disk. Dr. Matt Nicholl, a member of the team from Queen’s University Belfast, explained:
“Our understanding of the different things that supermassive black holes can do has greatly expanded in recent years, with discoveries of stars being torn apart and accreting black holes with hugely variable luminosities. J221951 is one of the most extreme examples yet of a black hole taking us by surprise. Continued monitoring of J221951 to work out the total energy release might allow us to work out whether this is a tidal disruption of a star by a fast-spinning black hole, or a new kind of AGN switch on”.
The team also identified two possible mechanisms that could explain the sudden and voracious feeding behavior. On the one hand, it is possible that an orbiting star passed close to the SMBH and was pulled apart – known as a tidal disruption event (or more commonly as “spaghettification”). A second possibility is that J221951 is an active galactic nucleus (AGN), known as a “quasar,” that began feeding on its accretion disk. In other words, the SMBH at the center of this galaxy “woke up” from its previously dormant state. In the future, Dr. Oates and her colleagues hope to take advantage of next-generation telescopes and their imaging capabilities to investigate J221951 further. As she added:
“In the future, we will be able to obtain important clues that help distinguish between the tidal disruption event and active galactic nuclei scenarios. For instance, if J221951 is associated with an AGN turning on we may expect it to stop fading and to increase again in brightness, while if J221951 is a tidal disruption event we would expect it to continue to fade. We will need to continue to monitor J221951 over the next few months to years to capture its late-time behavior.”
Artificial Intelligence Driven Robots Will “Kill Us All”
Artificial Intelligence Driven Robots Will “Kill Us All”
Despite the ruling class’s insistence that humans are killing the planet so climate change will kill us all, that’s probably not the case. Artificial intelligence is a much bigger threat than the propagandized joke climate change has become.
According to a report by USA Today, the hordes of artificially intelligent robots will probably kill us first long before climate change will even matter. Either way, we are going to be killed off and it’s going to be our fault. It’s never the dogmatic belief in the ruling class that got us here, it’s all the slaves that serve the rulers who fly their private jets around the world while preaching about the slaves lowering their standard of living.
If you’ve been busy doom-scrolling on social media or just floating merrily along on the algorithms that already control our lives, you might have missed a recent event in Geneva that focused on artificial intelligence. It was a United Nations’ International Telecommunication Union conference called the AI for Good Global Summit, a title I’m sure the few humans who survive the eventual robot uprising will chuckle about while huddled in dank caves hiding from killer drones.
The facial expressions on Ameca's robot could rate as clever or creepy depending on your mood.
ROB PEGORARO/SPECIAL TO USA TODAY
Organizers of the summit didn’t specify to what extent the answers were scripted or programmed by people. The summit was simply meant to showcase “human-machine collaboration,” and some of the robots are capable of producing preprogrammed responses, according to their documentation. The United Nations Development Program’s Sophia, for example, sometimes relies on responses scripted by a team of writers at Hanson Robotics, the company’s website shows.
AI advancement is becoming a nightmarish reality. People are concerned about machines taking over and enslaving them, yet seem to be OK with other humans enslaving them. This is such an odd time to be alive.

The Unearthly Enigma: How One Small UK Town Became Ground Zero for 2,493 UFO Sightings!
The Unearthly Enigma: How One Small UK Town Became Ground Zero for 2,493 UFO Sightings!
In the tranquil and picturesque landscapes of Scotland, Bonnybridge, a small town of around 5,000 people, has risen to global prominence. This little town is not renowned for its Scotch or ancient castles, but rather, for its staggering number of UFO sightings, which have intrigued enthusiasts, skeptics, and researchers worldwide.
Bonnybridge stands as an epicenter for UFO sightings, with an astonishing 300 reported encounters every year, baffling both locals and experts. Amid the intrigue and curiosity, we delve into firsthand accounts, expert perspectives, and local lore to understand why this Scottish town has become a UFO magnet.
Decoding the Bonnybridge Phenomenon
Delving into the enigma of Bonnybridge, we encounter UFO expert Malcolm Robinson, town councillor Billy Buchanan, and a diverse range of eye-witness locals, each with their riveting accounts. The tales are as diverse as they are mesmerizing: floating discs that vanish into thin air, inexplicable lights, and inexplicable celestial phenomena.
The town’s trusted local, Billy Buchanan, has been the ear to these extraordinary tales for 31 years. Billy has heard it all, from mysterious spheres of light descending from the sky to small grey entities purportedly abducting people from their beds. His records of these accounts make the X-files look like children’s fairy tales.
Government Involvement: Veil of Secrecy or Fear of the Unknown?
As we delve deeper into the mystery, we learn of an alarming suspicion shared by locals – the alleged involvement of governments. Many Bonnybridge locals, including Councillor Billy Buchanan, have speculated that the government may be concealing information or simply ignoring the phenomenon due to its inexplicable nature.
Is There a Logical Explanation?
Despite the numerous accounts of UFO sightings, Malcolm Robinson, a UFO researcher, brings a touch of rationality to the narrative. While some sightings could be explained through natural phenomena or human error, a significant number remain unexplained, suggesting that Bonnybridge may indeed be an extraterrestrial hotspot.
VIDEO:
EllieMarieTV – Why this UK Town has 2,493 UFO Sightings
After extensive research, Malcolm suggests that the majority of sightings are concentrated in specific areas, leading to the notion of ‘high Bonnie Bridge’ – an alleged UFO hotbed. The thrill of spotting a UFO is tempered by the uncertainty and potential danger associated with close encounters.
A Town Divided or United by Mystery?
As UFO sightings continue to mystify Bonnybridge, the town remains divided between believers, skeptics, and those who simply do not know what to believe. Regardless of personal beliefs, the phenomenon has irrevocably marked Bonnybridge, etching it into the annals of UFO lore.
From skeptic to believer, every visit to Bonnybridge offers a chance of sighting an unidentified object soaring across the Scottish skies. The question remains, why is Bonnybridge a hotspot for UFO sightings? As the world continues to seek answers, the skies over Bonnybridge promise more mystifying sightings, keeping the town’s mystery alive.
Congressman Rings Alarm Bells: The Hidden Truth of Alien Technology Unleashed!
Congressman Rings Alarm Bells: The Hidden Truth of Alien Technology Unleashed!
It’s not just another typical day in Congress; something interstellar is brewing. Tucked away in the humdrum political discourse, a Tennessee congressman, Tim Burchett, passionately declares, “We have threats to global security not from this earth!” Such a claim sends shivers down the spine, hinting at the extraordinary, the unknown, and perhaps, the extraterrestrial. The American people, Burchett insists, need to learn the truth.
A bold statement, sure, but Burchett isn’t joking around. He suggests a compelling history of evidence that the U.S. government has been concealing sightings of unidentified flying objects (UFOs) since 1897, dating back to an alleged spacecraft crash in Aurora, Texas. Burchett’s assertions turn the spotlight onto the cover-up of potentially extraterrestrial technology, illuminating a pressing need for disclosure. A previously suppressed narrative now takes flight – but are we ready to face the otherworldly truths?
The Tennessee congressman’s claims are shocking – spacecraft that can reach the speed of light, navigate underwater, and even reportedly turn people into ‘charcoal briquettes.’ Tales that sound ripped straight from a science fiction novel, but they come from an elected official who sits on a House committee investigating UFO sightings. These revelations paint a picture of a world much larger and more mysterious than we currently know.
Equally intriguing is the saga of whistleblower David Charles Grusch, who contends that the U.S. government has over a dozen non-human spacecraft in its possession, working relentlessly to reverse engineer their technology. However, this information was allegedly unlawfully kept from Congress. This suggests a darker undertone to the awe-inspiring phenomenon of UFOs – one of secrecy and power dynamics.
But it isn’t just a story of hushed-up high-tech space vehicles and alien encounters. It’s about the cat-and-mouse game between intelligence agencies and Congress. Burchett recounts his frustration after a promising Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP) briefing turned out to be a mere mirage, as access to some ‘promised’ knowledge was denied on grounds of security clearance.
Our journey into this concealed universe doesn’t end here. Michael Shellenberger, a well-known author, has reportedly spoken to high-ranking government officials who back up Grusch’s claims. The plot thickens as it’s revealed that proposals to allow private contractors to work on these unearthly spacecraft have been dismissed. The persistent denial leaves us to question, what is there to hide if there is ‘nothing’ there?
An enlightening conversation with the congressman offers glimpses into a world that we may be only just beginning to understand. He explains his frustration and drive for transparency, “We can’t have it both ways. If you think there is nothing there, then you should have no objection to Congress, representing the American people, finding out.”
VIDEO:
Rep. Tim Burchett on Fox News “These things are coming from somewhere else and this has been covered up since 1947.”
Burchett’s passionate plea for honesty and transparency strikes a chord. It’s time to lift the veil on the unidentified, the alien, the potentially earth-shattering knowledge that we are not alone in the universe. His final words ring loud: “Turn loose the files. Turn loose the unredacted files they have.”
And so, we find ourselves peering into the universe, excited and apprehensive about what we might uncover. It’s time to seek the truth and prepare for the extraordinary. It’s time for the government to open those unseen UFO files.
Astronomers have spotted never-before-seen meteor-like streaks seemingly rain on the surface of the sun, but you should think twice before attempting to catch these falling stars.
"If humans were alien beings capable of living on the sun's surface, we would constantly be rewarded with amazing views of shooting stars, but we would need to watch out for our heads!" Patrick Antolin, a solar physicist at Northumbria University in London and lead author of the discovery, said in a statement.
These solar shooting stars are quite different from shooting stars that appear over Earth, which are fragments of space dust, rock, or small asteroids that enter the atmosphere at high speeds and burn up, creating streaks of light. The solar shooting stars are giant clumps of plasma dropping to the star's surface at incredible speeds.
On Earth, most meteors don't make it to the surface due to the thick atmosphere of our planet, but the sun's atmosphere — the corona — is much thinner, and thus these clumps are not completely stripped as they fall. Thus solar shooting stars could make it to our star's surface intact.
This observation, made with the European Space Agency’s Solar Orbiter spacecraft, marks the first time these impacts have been spotted. The findings have revealed that this process can create short but intense brightening and both an upward surge of stellar material and shock waves that reheat the gas in the corona above the impacts.
Scientists think that this discovery could therefore help solve the mystery of why the corona, the outermost part of the sun’s atmosphere, is much hotter than the layers of the sun below it, despite solar models predicting the sun should become hotter closer to its core.
The solar shooting stars were spotted by Solar Orbiter as it observed spectacular plasma firework displays called coronal rain, formed of gas with temperatures upwards of 2 million degrees Fahrenheit.
Singeing in the rain
Rather than being composed of water, coronal rains form when localized temperature drops cause solar plasma to cluster into super-dense lumps. Reaching sizes as great as 155 miles (250 kilometers) wide, these lumps then drop to the much cooler surface of the sun, the photosphere, as a fiery rain at speeds as great as 220,000 miles per hour (100 kilometers per second).
Solar Orbiter spotted those coronal rains when it passed at a distance of just 30 million miles (49 million kilometers) from the sun, which is closer than the orbit of the solar system's innermost planet Mercury. The probe, fitted with high-resolution cameras and a set of sensitive remote-sensing instruments, saw that there was gas being heated to around a million degrees and compressed under these coronal rains. The phenomenon lasted for just a few minutes and was the result of the falling clumps.
On Earth, bright tails created as friction in the atmosphere heats a meteoroid's material are characteristic for shooting stars. This friction heating turns solid matter straight to gas in a process called ablation. Ablation happens also when comets orbiting the sun get too close to our star, but it doesn’t happen to these solar shooting stars.
That is because of powerful magnetic fields in the corona that funnel stripped gas from these falling clumps and thus prevent the formation of bright tails, something which has hindered observations of solar meteors until now.
"The inner solar corona is so hot we may never be able to probe it in situ with a spacecraft," Antolin said. "However, Solar Orbiter orbits close enough to the sun that it can detect small-scale phenomena occurring within the corona, such as the effect of the rain on the corona, allowing us a precious indirect probe of the coronal environment that is crucial to understanding its composition and thermodynamics."
The team's research will be presented this week at the National Astronomy Meeting (NAM 2023) by Antolin. The research will also be published in a forthcoming special issue of the journal Astronomy & Astrophysics.

Unraveling the Mystery: Who Sculpted California's Intriguing Hemet Maze Stone?
Unraveling the Mystery: Who Sculpted California's Intriguing Hemet Maze Stone?
Located in Reinhardt Canyon, southern California, near the quaint town of Hemet, sits an enigmatic petroglyph known as the Hemet Maze Stone. This curious figure comprises interconnected rectangular patterns forming a cyclical labyrinth set within a square or rectangle. The overarching form intriguingly echoes the shape of a swastika, a motif prominent in Native American and Asian art for thousands of years prior to its ill-famed association with the Third Reich.
Despite fervent studies, archaeologists remain in the dark about the exact origin or age of this drawing. Various theories suggest the creator of the petroglyph could have been an unidentified indigenous Californian tribe or even Chinese Buddhist monks. This piece seeks to evaluate these compelling theories, anchored in the certainty archaeologists, historians, and scholars have about the real artist behind the maze.
IN 1914, A RANCHER JUST outside Hemet, California was surveying his property and discovered a boulder with a strange maze-like image carved into it. Archeologists later determined – based on some artifacts found near the stone – that the carving is at least 500 years old, if not even older. However, even today archeologists are not sure who made the carving, or why.
Part of the mystery comes from the design itself. The maze-like design is quite different from other petroglyph designs in the United States; most petroglyphs are stylized pictures of animals or people, or designs representing rivers, trails or other natural features. The carving on the Hemet stone, however, is an intricate maze in a swastika-like shape -a design more commonly found in Buddhist tradition. It’s also rare – since 1914, only 50 other similar carvings have turned up, all of them within 150 miles of each other.
The design’s Buddhist symbolism, and the proximity of other such stones, sparked a theory that they were all carved by a crew of Chinese sailors shipwrecked in California as early as 500 CE. However, the swastika is also found in Native American art – to the once-nomadic Hopi, for example, the swastika represents their wanderings, while among the Navajo it represents the movements of the tsil no’oli, or “whirling log,” a canoe which a legendary hero rode during a quest. Native American swastika designs turn up on textiles, pottery, and sand paintings more so than in petroglyphs, but their prehistoric use does at least suggest a more local source for the maze carvings.
Unfortunately, today the swastika is more often associated with the German Third Reich, and the Hemet Maze Stone has suffered some damage as a result. The stone and its surrounding land became a California state landmark in 1956, and sometime thereafter a vandal added swastika in the orientation favored by the Nazis to one corner of the carving. The stone is now protected by a pair of chain-link fences, and the surrounding park has since been closed. But the carving is still an official California Historical Landmark, receiving occasional visits from intrepid and curious guests.
Lockheed Martin has once again sparked intrigue and speculation on social media by potentially offering a tantalizing glimpse at its enigmatic Next-Generation Air Dominance (NGAD) fighter jet.
The aerospace and defense giant recently marked the 80th anniversary of its renowned advanced projects division, Skunk Works, by posting an Instagram story showing a series of silhouettes for some of Skunk Works’ most iconic aircraft.
The brief video showed renderings of the U-2 “Dragon Lady,” SR-71 “Blackbird,” F-117 “Nighthawk,” F-22 “Raptor,” F-35 “Lightning II,” X-59 QueSST, and the Project Carrera “Speed Racer.” However, the final image in the series revealed an unidentified sleek, delta-wing manned aircraft.
Unlike anything in Lockheed’s known inventory, the mysterious aircraft captured the attention of aviation enthusiasts, with many speculating it could be Skunk Work’s prototype 6th generation fighter jet for the U.S. Air Force’s Next Generation Air Dominance (NGAD) program.
The Air Force announced in May it had begun soliciting proposals for the 6th generation multi-role NGAD fighter, intended to replace the F-22 Raptor.
The Air Force has said the NGAD platform will represent a crucial advancement in combat capabilities, with cutting-edge advancements in propulsion, stealth, and weapon system technologies. The future NGAD fighter has also been described as the centerpiece for a “family of systems,” with the advanced fighter jet able to collaborate with autonomous unmanned drones serving as “loyal wingmen.”
The Air Force intends to award the NGAD contract in 2024, with plans to procure 200 next-generation fighters alongside 1,000 CCA autonomous drones.
In 2020, former Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics, Dr. Will Roper, announced the Air Force had already secretly designed, built, and flown at least one full-scale 6th generation NGAD prototype.
“We’ve already built and flown a full-scale flight demonstrator in the real world, and we broke records in doing it,” Roper told Defense News in an interview ahead of the Air Force Association’s 2020 Air, Space and Cyber Conference. “We are ready to go and build the next-generation aircraft in a way that has never happened before.”
Roper’s claims sparked a firestorm of curiosity in the aviation and defense community, as the last known flight of a U.S. fighter prototype, the Boeing X-32 and Lockheed Martin X-35, occurred nearly two decades ago. Both proof-of-concept aircraft competed as part of the U.S. Joint Strike Fighter program, ultimately resulting in the F-35 Lightning II.
On a recent podcast, Vago Muradian, the editor-in-chief and host of the Defense & Aerospace Report, and J.J. Gertler, director of The Defense Concepts Organization and senior analyst at the Teal Group, reported that at least three NGAD fighter prototypes had already been built and flown.
Citing unnamed “sources involved in the program,” Muradian and Gertler said three prime contractors initially competed to develop America’s next-generation fighter. The aviation analysts speculated that Boeing, Lockheed Martin, and Northrop Grumman were the most likely candidates.
According to Muradian and Gertler, it is likely that only two of the initial three major aerospace corporations are still in the running for the final NGAD contract.
All clues suggest the NGAD program is further ahead than most might expect. Yet, most of what is going on in the battle to develop America’s next-generation fighter remains shrouded in extreme secrecy.
However, the war over 6th-generation aircraft teasers has been heating up recently.
In May, Northrup Gruman published a 15-second ad showing three women walking through an aircraft hanger discussing how the longest full-scaled unmanned flight was piloted and crewed entirely by women.
To one side of the hanger, an E-2D Advanced Hawkeye, EA-18 Growler, and the nose of an RQ-4 Global Hawk can be seen in the background. However, opposite these well-known planes is a front-angle view of unidentified matte black, delta-wing crewed aircraft.
The mysterious jet appears to have a single cockpit, no vertical tail section, and top-mounted low-observable air intakes, all consistent with features found on stealth aircraft.
“Shattering records and the glass ceiling,” one woman remarks in the video, with her colleague pondering, “I wonder what records we’ll shatter.”
The recent unknown aircraft silhouette posted by Lockheed Martin appears to resemble previous renderings of a crewed sixth-generation fighter jet. The concept art, included in a media briefing about the company’s proposal for the Air Force’s next-generation in-flight refueling aircraft and KC-Y competition, similarly revealed a tailless, dual-engine, diamond-wing aircraft.

Lockheed Martin officials said that the renderings didn’t necessarily represent what its NGAD fighter might look like without offering any further clarifying comments.
Perhaps most intriguing, the recent Lockheed Martin teaser vaguely resembles a mysterious aircraft spotted at the Air Force’s reclusive flight test center at Groom Lake, better known as Area 51.
The still unknown delta-wing aircraft was spotted parked in a modular, temporary aircraft shelter by the defense news site, The WarZone, using commercial satellite imagery.
Ultimately, the true story behind the recent undisclosed aircraft model by Lockheed Martin is unclear and may have nothing to do with the NGAD program.
It’s also worth noting that Lockheed Martin is well-versed in creating a buzz on social media.
While congratulating the film Top Gun: Maverick on its six Oscar nominations in March, Lockheed Martin posted an image of the presumably fictional “Darkstar” hypersonic aircraft, ambiguously suggesting the jet could be real.

Lockheed Martin CEO James Taiclet further fanned the flames by saying, “Darkstar’s capabilities could be more than mere fiction. They could be reality.”
A Lockheed Martin spokesperson told The Debrief, “I can confirm that we designed Darkstar for the film.” When pressed to clarify recent posts suggesting Darkstar was a “real” aircraft, the spokesperson replied, “I don’t have anything additional to share.”
For World UFO Day on July 2, Lockheed Martin’s official Twitter account shared a photo showing a front-on view of an F-35 fighter flying at sunset. Against the fiery orange, soft pink, and deep blue background, at first glance, the jet could easily be mistaken for a classic flying saucer. A captain with the photo said, “Alien tech or the F-35? You decide.”
The Debrief reached out for clarification on this latest mysterious aircraft tease. However, Lockheed Martin’s press office did not respond by the time of publication.

Researchers in Antarctica were recently stunned by their discovery of a thriving community of crab-like creatures living under the ice. Initially on-site to study a river hundreds of kilometers from the Ross Ice Shelf, the research team that stumbled upon the unexpected find said they were shocked and pleasantly surprised to find life where there should be none.
IN ANTARCTICA, LIFE FINDS A WAY

In the 1993 filmJurassic Park and its most recent 2022 incarnationJurassic World: Dominion, Jeff Goldblum’s character Ian Malcolm famously observes that even against incredible odds, “life finds a way.”
Researchers looking for signs of life outside of the planet Earth have taken this idea to heart, increasingly focusing on the types of life forms that exist and even thrive in our planet’s most inhospitable environments. Often dubbed ‘extremophiles,’ these hardy, resilient life forms have been found in the deepest parts of the ocean and even thousands of feet below the Earth’s surface.
“The discovery represents the first-ever record of a rocky natural environment supporting life deep beneath an Antarctic ice shelf,” The Debrief wrote at the time. “BAS says the finding goes against all previous theories of what types of life could survive in such extreme conditions.”
It was a “big surprise,” said Professor Craig Stevens, a NIWA Physical Oceanographer who was part of the team in a press release announcing the unexpected discovery.
“For a while, we thought something was wrong with the camera, but when the focus improved, we noticed a swarm of arthropods around 5mm in size,” Stevens added. “We were jumping up and down because having all those animals swimming around our equipment means that there’s clearly an important ecosystem there.”
According to Stevens, the discovery prodded the research team to temporarily pause their research into the effects of climate change on the local environment and instead focus on understanding what it was they had actually found.
“We’ve taken some water samples back to the lab to look at the DNA and other properties of the water to see what makes it unique,” he said, “as we were observing something not seen in other systems close by.”
Huw Horgan, associate Professor of geophysical glaciology at the Antarctic Research Center at Victoria University of Wellington (and the project’s lead), said that finding the unexpected system of life was like “being the first to enter a hidden world.”
“It was an incredibly exciting expedition because of the rare opportunity it offered to study this type of environment.”
LIFE IN ANTARCTICA MAY AID THE SEARCH FOR EXTRATERRESTRIAL LIFE
Since the shocking discovery, the research team has resumed its original mission to study the local environment. However, they reportedly left behind enough instruments to monitor their newly discovered ‘nest of life’ well beyond the initial discovery.
“We’ve left instruments there that should provide observations for years to come,” said Horgan. “This will tell us about the water flow, temperature and pressure at two-minute intervals so we can get a good picture of how the river behaves and how it interacts with the ocean and ice sheet.”
With NASA and the world’s other space organizations increasingly focusing the search for extraterrestrial life on icy worlds with underground oceans like Jupiter’s moon Europa or Saturn’s moon Enceladus, understanding our own sub-surface life forms will become increasingly critical.

Moon scientists have announced the discovery of a 50-kilometer-wide hunk of rock underneath the lunar farside’s surface — and it’s made of something commonly found in kitchens.
The team detailed their surprising finding on Thursday, days ahead of presenting the work at the geochemistry Goldschmidt Conference in Lyon, France. A suite of satellites detected a heat source near the site of an ancient lunar caldera, a depression formed when magma empties out of a volcanic chamber that collapses. Satellites noticed that this place was about 10 degrees Celsius warmer than its surroundings. They suspect it’s coming from a gargantuan slab of granite.
“We have discovered extra heat coming out of the ground at a location on the Moon believed to be a long-dead volcano which last erupted over 3.5 billion years ago,” Matt Siegler, lead researcher and senior scientist at the Planetary Science Institute in Arizona, said in Thursday’s announcement. A paper detailing the work was published on Wednesday in the journal Nature.
“It’s around 50 km across, and the only solution that we can think of which produces that much heat is a large body of granite, a rock which forms when a magma body — the unerupted lava — below a volcano cools,” he added.
WHY IS THERE GRANITE ON THE MOON?
According to the announcement, granite is “nearly absent” in the Solar System except on Earth, and “only small grains” of granite have been found in Apollo Moon rock samples.
On Earth, granite forms when water interacts with the tectonic plates of the crust. According to the National Park Service, “granitic rocks are found on continents around the world near active or past plate boundaries.” Granite forms when magma rises close to the surface, but doesn’t erupt, and then slowly cools down underground. Granite can become visible at the surface when the volcanic rock sitting atop erodes with time. Yosemite National Park’s El Capitan and Half Dome are good examples of granite slabs. Their massive size earns them the title of batholith.
But the Moon doesn’t have water or plate tectonics in the traditional sense. It has experienced some volcanism, however, and has pockets of frozen water near its poles. If granite exists on the Moon, it’s still a bit perplexing. “This is more Earth-like than we had imagined can be produced on the Moon, which lacks the water and plate tectonics that help granites form on Earth,” Siegler said.
Siegler goes on to credit his wife Rita Economos, geochemist and associate professor at Southern Methodist University in Texas, with pointing out that, despite the lunar location, the spacecraft observations were spotting granite.
“To tell the truth we were a bit puzzled when we found it: fortunately, my wife, Dr. Rita Economos, is the geochemist in the family, so with her guidance we were able to piece together the probable geologic cause of the heat anomaly,” Siegler said.

EXPLORING THE SOLAR SYSTEM
The new work came about thanks to the surveying skills of four lunar spacecraft: the Chinese Chang’e 1 and 2 lunar orbiters, NASA’s Lunar Prospector and its Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter. The work shows that remote sensing can detect hidden features below the surface of extraterrestrial terrain, Siegler says.
“This will be useful in the exploration of other planetary bodies in the Solar System,” he adds.
