A Missouri witness at Clinton reported watching a “fluid UFO” moving along at the treetop level, according to testimony in Case 80245 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

The witness was sky watching with a friend at a motel at 8:45 p.m. on November 4, 2016, when the incident occurred.

“It was very dark outside and pitch black,” the reporting witness stated.“There was not enough light from the building lights on the exterior to illuminate anything. Suddenly we noticed something moving about 100 feet away.”

The witness described the object.

“It was a silvery silhouette of an object in a checkmark shape which had very fluid movement and changed shape several times. There was no sound, and it was located very low in the sky, just above the tree line approximately 100 feet from where we were standing. It was a white/yellowish color, very smooth movement.”

The witness described the object’s movement.

“The object was located in the east at first, and then moved in a straight-line path to the southeast. We watched the object for approximately one minute or so, long enough to get a good look at it. The object did not move like a flock of birds. It did seem like there were multiple objects. There were no lights. Coyotes’ stopped howling at that time, and it was very quiet. We sensed no vibration. The animals resumed making noises after the object disappeared. The object just disappeared. It did not move off out of sight. The size was about two car lengths long. It would take a 12-inch ruler held at arm’s length to cover it up.”

Missouri Assistant State Director Margie Kay investigated this case and closed it as an Unknown.

“The two witnesses were visiting outside and skywatching in the evening when they noticed this object, which was very close to them,” Kay stated in her report. “They described it as ‘difficult to describe’ as neither had ever seen anything like it. They said that it kept changing shapes, was very fluid in movement, had sections to it, and moved kind of like a ribbon or serpent, and at times appeared to be reflective, although they thought that the lights from the motel could not have been a source of light for the reflection. It was very dark outside and neither could see any lighting coming from anywhere except from the motel. Both witnesses said that the object had no lights on it whatsoever, and that there was no sound or vibration, and that it was the strangest thing they ever saw.The motel manager sent me a text and she said that she saw a UFO in the exact same location six years ago. By their description, this is not a known aircraft or blimp, or birds. I believe it to be an unidentified object.”

The witness was driving home on a clear night at 8:45 p.m. on November 17, 2016, when the incident began.

“Approached a stop sign in rural area and noted a brightly lit craft flying very slowly directly towards me at low altitude,” the witness stated.“The white spotlights were very bright and spaced widely apart, making a helicopter unlikely, so I stopped at the intersection to observe what seemed like a strange phenomenon.”

The object reached the witness in about three minutes, traveling less than a mile.

“As it got closer I saw a blinking red light on the nose and thought ‘plane.’ But it was so slow, low and silent.”

But then the object made a turn.

“Moments before it would have been overhead, it made a perfect 90-degree turn. At that point I could see its underbelly clearly. It was a perfect black triangle, slightly wider at the back than the sides (triangle tip facing forward for flight) with white and red line of lights along the back flashing in a sequence back and forth. Shortly after it turned it traveled behind the treeline and I continued on my way home.”

New Milford is a town in southern Litchfield County, Connecticut, population 28,671. Connecticut MUFON Field Investigator Warren Fentress is investigating. The witness provided one illustration with the MUFON report, which was filed on November 17, 2016.

Editor’s note: The Rendlesham Forest UFO sightings took place over several days in late December, 1980. Although exact dates have been disputed, according to the witnesses, it is likely the event began very late on December 25. The Rendlsham forest is flanked by two Royal Air Force (RAF) bases, RAF Bentwaters and RAF Woodbridge. At the time, both were on lease to the United States Air Force. Personnel from both bases reported seeing UFOs the night of the 25th into the early morning of the 26th.

When December comes around each year it always reminds me that what has been labelled as Britain’s foremost UFO incident took place. I refer of course to the events in late December 1980 in Rendlesham Forest, commonly referred to as the RFI. This incident is too big and too complicated to summarise here but for those who are not fully aware of it I would recommend you read the Wikipedia page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rendlesham_Forest_incident.

This year we have the new book The Halt Perspective, co-authored by Colonel Halt and John Hanson and published by ’Haunted Skies.’ To some, the RFI is THE case that can change ufology forever, while others dismiss it offering a variety of natural explanations to account for the observations in question.  For those who do not know who Colonel Halt is, he was the Deputy Base Commander at RAF Woodbridge in 1980, and was an eye witness to some of the UFO events observed in December 1980.

I am not going to go over old ground, and my own opinion on the RFI remains open, but I am not convinced with a lot of the sceptical arguments against it. So, with all this in mind, I have recently taken the opportunity to interview one of the US Airmen that was on duty on one of the nights in question. To the best of my knowledge he has not gone on the record before. His name is Steve Longero. I spoke with Steve twice on the telephone on October 29^th & 30^th 2016.

Who is Steve Longero ?

My background:  

I worked as a Police Officer for Dept of Veterans Affairs 1986-1988. I was hired by the County of Santa Clara Dept of Correction in 1988, while working in the jails, I also was a Reserve Police Officer for the city of Manteca! I ended up retiring from the Sheriffs office in Santa Clara County where I was recognized by the courts as a gang expert. I held the title of training officer, as was a team leader for the emergency response team there, until I retired in 2012.

I was a former Sergeant – Honourable Discharge – at USAF Security Police (1980 – 1984). Yes. I was in the forest, I saw the lights, heard the conversations, talked about it and was told to be quiet! My roommate was Ed Cabansag! I really never talked about it to Penniston and Burroughs but I was there! Warren can tell you! Yes we were debriefed and told to keep quiet!

Interview with Steve Longero

Some of the following interview will be paraphrased while other parts will be verbatim.

Philip Mantle: Can you tell us when you joined the USAF.

Steve Longero: Yes, it’s been a long time. I joined in July, no June 1980.

Mantle: Were your stationed anywhere else before you went to Bentwaters?

Longero: No, that was my first duty. I was a security policeman. You know my job was patrolling the flight line and the weapons storage area (WSA).

Mantle: Do you remember the nights in question in late December 1980?

Longero: Yes, I sure do. I went on duty, what I remember that on one of those nights I was guarding the weapons storage area.

While on duty that night, we had a very sophisticated alarm system and everything just went off. And then, you know, I could see these lights over the treetops, and I was thinking, “What’s going on?” Then they started sending people out there and at first, you know, it was hard to believe, you know, all these bright lights. It was hard to take in. Well, from what I remember, the lights, fluorescent lights, kind of a glow, like a reddish glow. I remember going out there.

Steve went on to add that he went out into Rendlesham Forest and there were a lot of other people already there. The forest wasn’t that far from the perimeter. He was only a few hundred yards into the forest. He could not remember who ordered him to go out there.  He remembered the flight chief being out there. He saw the lights in the forest. There were a number of others out there including Larry Warren and Jim Penniston and Cabansag.  He was out in the forest from between one to two hours. A few days later they were told not to talk about it. Steve went on to confirm that OSI agents were there. He was asked to sign something and told not to talk about it.

He remembers seeing, among others, Larry Warren when they were told to obtain the ‘light alls’ (portable lights). These were used to light up the forest. So they were taken into the area.

Longero: I can’t remember verbatim what I saw that night but I was there.

Mantle: What I’d like to ask you again, Steve, is when you went out into the forest you could see the lights over the trees. Could you tell me what those lights looked like, please?

Longero: They looked like fluorescent coloured lights, like red and green, glowing lights and that’s what they looked like.

Mantle: How long did you view them for do you reckon?

Longero: I’d say ten to fifteen minutes, and I could see them hovering over the treetops, and it was just hovering over the treetops, and it was just, just, like an eye that was almost following everybody.

Mantle: When you went into the forest you mentioned others, can you remember anyone else who were there?

Longero: Yes, Penniston and Burroughs and Cabansag and, I remember others starting coming, we all kind of got dispatched there, if I remember, Larry was out there. Because, if I remember right, Larry was working at a gate and he got picked up by, I want to say, a Lt. Englund. I remember he was at the East Gate and I remember he, they transported people from there, like I said, they sent a lot of people out there.

Mantle: So when you were in the forest, can you explain to me what you saw and what was it like there?

Longero: It was real kind of quiet and, you  know, this thing hovering over the trees, and you were like kind of tracking it and like, “What is this?,” you know, and it was like following, it was like watching us, that’s what it looked like to us. It seemed like something watching us.

Mantle: What colour was it?

Longero: From what I remember, it was like aglow. It was really glowing like a reddish, greenish light. It was a like, it war really glowing. You know what it looked like, like something was really hot and it was just glowing.

Mantle: Did you see Col. Halt? Was he there?

Longero: Col. Halt came afterwards, yes, he came afterwards, after all that was called in. I remember him turning up. That’s when they kind of gathered everyone around and said this is what we are going to do, and everybody kind of dispersed and did what they were told to do. I remember we had like a little briefing right there and everybody was just like, we just could not believe what we were seeing. Your adrenalin was flowing and I remember people saying like, “What is that?,” you know.

Mantle: Now, I know I have asked you this question before Steve, but some people believe that you misidentified the lighthouse. What do you say to that?

Longero: (laughs). I don’t think so.

Mantle: Could you see the lighthouse at the same time?

Longero: I won’t say it was the lighthouse; no, it was not the lighthouse. Not unless the lighthouse could move (laughs). Unless they could float that thing in the air. And then, you know, as we got, as people were getting close to this thing, it kind of came nearer to us and then it would go forward and then go back and all of a sudden it just disappeared, like something out of Star Trek. It was like warp speed and we were all, “What was that?” It was gone, and then that’s when they started doing all their investigations and I was just a, after we secured the area, they said, “Okay. You’re gone. Get out of here.”

Mantle: Was there a lot of talk about it back at base afterwards?

Longero: Oh yes. It was all over the base. It was a big topic.

Mantle: You said that you were debriefed a few days later. Is that right?

Longero: Yes, I want to say a day or two later. I remember that night we all used to go and eat at the chow hall and everybody was talking about it and I remember, in fact, I want to say I was sitting at the table where Penniston was sitting, and he was a Staff Sergeant, and he told all of us to stop talking about it. I remember that, you know, stop talking about it.

Mantle: You said, also, that Larry Warren was involved in helping set up the light-alls. Is that correct?

Longero: He was. Yes, that’s true.

Mantle: So who debriefed you Steve?

Longero: You know, Philip, I remember going in, they called us in individually, and I want to say that it was security police investigations, and I do believe that there was an OSI agent in there. I remember this OSI gentleman with a beard. I remember getting pulled in. I remember getting talked to by Major Zickler. I remember getting called into his office for something like that.

Mantle: Can you remember what the conversation was (with Major Zickler)?

Longero: Well, you know, what you saw, remember where you work in the weapons storage area. It was like you don’t need to talk about this you don’t need to make a big deal out of this.

Mantle: And we are talking about nuclear weapons here aren’t we?

Longero: Yes sir.

Mantle: So, there was a lot of talk, was there a consensus about what this thing was?

Longero: Yes. It was like, “What did we see? Was this an experimental aircraft?” I remember that was one of the things, you know, “What was that?”

Mantle: What do you think it was?

Longero: I think it was something not from this world. Just because the way it hovered and just the way it disappeared.  That’s what I think. That’s what I’ve always thought.

Mantle: You know Larry Warren has been criticized quite a bit. What do have to say in answer to that?

Longero: I think there were a lot of haters out there who just didn’t like Larry Warren. I liked Larry. I went to tech school with him and I never had a problem with Larry, but I know there were people in that unit that didn’t like him for whatever reason. Maybe they didn’t like his personality, but I never had any issue with Larry.

Mantle: But you definitely remember seeing him there, don’t you?

Longero: I remember, what I remember is that we had something to do with these light-all things, I remember, yes. And that was out there, yes.

Mantle: Did you get to know any of the civilians in the area at the time?

Longero: No. After that, I just kind of kept myself to myself, and kind of thought, “I’ll do my bit and get out of here.”

I have thanked Steve Longero for speaking to me and for going on the record for the very first time. Steve does not claim to be anything special, but he wanted to emphasize that there were a lot of others involved and who were witness to the events in question. Many of whom have yet to add their voice to these events.

Steve has confirmed the open secret that nuclear weapons were stored at RAF Bentwaters at the time, although, he did not personally witness any lights being shone onto the WSA. He has confirmed much of what Colonel Halt has already said on the record, and he is in no doubt that Larry Warren was there.

It is not the intention of this article to discuss what Steve and his colleagues may or may not have observed, nor is it my aim to support anyone’s story of whether they were there or not. One thing that is clear is that there are probably many others who were stationed there at the time and, as yet, have not gone on the record. Let us hope that in some small way this article might encourage some of them to come forward.

What is also clear is that despite the best efforts of some, this case will continue to be hotly debated for many years to come. Do the events in late December 1980 in Rendlesham forest have a conventional explanation, or is Steve Longero correct when he says it was “something not of this world?” I leave you to decide.

A UFO book that is gathering interest and momentum at the moment is The Halt Perspective, so I have taken this opportunity to interview the book’s co-author and publisher, John Hanson. Lots has been said on social media and the controversy still continues, so I thought it might be the right time to go direct to the source and get an email interview with the man in question.

Phillip Mantle: Please tell us something about your background. Who is John Hanson? When did you first become interested in the UFO phenomenon?

John  Hanson: Early roots and sides of life

I am a retired West Midlands Police Officer, born in Didcot, Berkshire, now living in Worcestershire.

My father – ex-RAF John Thomas Hanson, a Yorkshireman –  joined the  RSPCA [Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals] as an Inspector. In those days Inspectors were not allowed to stay more than 7 years on a posting, so I have many pleasant memories of having lived in Halifax, Leeds, Cheltenham and Surrey. My Dad worked many long hours and was always being called  out in the middle of the night to rescue an animal. This was before the hours were regulated. I am proud of him and my Mum – Didcot born Barbara Anne Hanson (nee Keats) – whom I adored and miss both of them. I have a sister, Carole, who lives in Gravesend.

Trained as a chef

After leaving school, my father found me a job in a solictor’s office but I took alternative employment as a chef at the Moorend Park Hotel, Cheltenham, before working for an outside caterers, R. Sills, where I certainly saw the other side of life, cooking at Hunt Balls and private functions at Stateley homes. How the other half lives!

Birmingham City Police

I joined the Birmingham City Police in 1966, after my Dad had his Sunbeam Talbot stolen, one night, while we were living in Chelteham. I spent half of my career in the CID [Criminal Investigation Department] and saw another side of life.

In 1995, I left the force and had not the faintest idea that UFOs even existed. I have no memory of having seen any such incidents reported in the newspaper, during what was a prolific period of UFO activity. If I had, I would have believed the witnesses were suffering from flights of imagnation, drink, or in need of psychiatric attention. Was I in for a shock!

PM: Could you explain how your series of HAUNTED SKIES books first came about?

JH: How it all began

My interest in the UFO phenomena began on the 19th of January, 1995, after Chris Hanson (my son) – a newly joined P.C. [Police Constable], also based at the same Police Station – was directed (along with another officer) to a suburb close to the Police training centre in Selly Park, South Birmingham, following a number of 999 calls made to the public, reporting an object with a blue tail and dark blue head seen racing over the City Centre at about 6.15pm.

A doctor in Moseley then saw it drop down from the sky over the Stirchley area. The two officers interviewed the doctor and, while on the way back, saw a fat elliptical object with a blue field around it, with a line of rippling red through the middle, hovering over a copse of trees. Within seconds, it shrank into itself and disappeared. I thought they were joking, but in due course managed to find some witnesses from the Oxford area that saw a ‘D’ shaped object following the contours of the land, a few minutes later.

Explained away as a shooting star by the local papers

My interest was triggered by this singular event and I knew this was no shooting star. What a load of rubbish! When I wrote to the Bristish Astronimical Association, asking them for assitance, the head of the organisation sent me a postcard informing me that he had asked his fireball co-ordinator not to enter into any dialogue with ‘crackpot organisations,’ presmuably alluding to myself?

One thing that has always motivated me, even as a ‘copper’, is adversity – it can only spur one on!

College talk

Following a talk given at the local Redditch College, Worcestershire, on UFOs, in the mid 1990s,  I met Redditch resident Dawn Marina Holloway who had photographed some trianguler objects in the sky over Barmouth. We became friends and decided to write a book, taking into consideration there was a dearth of books being written on the UFO subject, ironically triggered-off by an ernormous interest in popular science fiction such as the X Files, Star Trek, and other films that had gripped the public’s imagination, portraying man’s heroic fight against the alien invading hordes!

First strange incident

Oddly, a strange thing happened after talking about Tony Dodd’s investigations into a UFO encounter involving allegations of aliens captured in South Africa, which had involved showing film through my Panasonic VHS camera (the projector wasn’t working at the college). I returned home to Alvechurch and was about to get into bed, when the bedroom was lit up. I looked out and saw a ‘globe of bright light’ opposite the house. I picked up the camera and took a clip of film. The next thing I was aware of was waking up and carrying on with the daily duties. At some stage, I discovered the camera was missing and thought I had left it at the college or the pub aftewards, where I had enjoyed one pint only!

During the evening, I searched the bedroom and found the camera. Immediately I remembered the UFO incident and examined the camera, and was pleased to find the film was still there. I will show the images  in Volume 13 of Haunted Skies (1995) and still find it a little embarrassing, as I cannot explain what happened at least to explain away the incident with any rationaility!

We spent more years amassing a large amount of reports obtained from our own investigations. After interviewing witnesses in the West Midlands area, we thought, naively, we could fulfil our ambition.

Gordon Creighton – Editor of Flying Saucer Review

We went to see Gordon Creighton at his house in Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire. He was a distinguished diplomat who reported seeing a  flying ‘disc’ in 1941 while serving in China. He had a passion for preserving  UFO sightings worldwide in the now famous magazines, and despite being seriously injured in a car accident, insisted on putting the FSRs [Flying Saucer Review] together from his hospital bed. We have so much admiration for him and his wife, Joan, and the rest of the team we met, and were so proud when he asked Dawn and I to be Consultants for FSR, after seeing our folders of catalogued reports.

Dawn and I were also humbled to be invited to his funeral and I still have regrets about being asked to take over the Editor’s job, some years ago, which I had to refuse because of my full-time commitment to the Haunted Skies series of books.

Forewords by Tim Good, Jenny Randles, Nick Redferen, Phil Mantle, Matt Lyons

At some stage we met Tim Good, who promised us a foreword, and then sent the Chronicles of a Phenomenon synopsis off to his agent – who declined it, saying it was not focused, although he was impressed by our commitment and some of the work provided. We weren’t sure what he meant and, rather than pay a fee to be advisied accordingly, decided to present the sightings in chronoloigcal order – which meant a humongous amount of time spent in libraries, searching through telephone directories and then writing to newspapers appealing for information. Most of the time the results were unsuccessful, but others came forward to tell what they had seen.

Preparing the foundation

We read the majority of FRS/UFO Magazines/Newspapers and hundreds of books, determined to track down and interview the witnesses personally, feeling their UFO sightings and encounters should be preserved for posterity and future generations. We managed to trace people like Margaret Fry, Jessie Roestenberg, Robin Gibbons, James Salandin and other RAF officers, to name just a few, not forgetting the researchers – some of whom have now passed away.

This cost us money to travel all over the country, but if we had the chance we would do it again.

We feel privileged to have been given the opportunity to share what, in some cases, has been a traumatic experience, sometimes followed by ridicule, taking into consideration these people did not know us and were still prepared to discuss what, in some situations, were very private matters.

Under criticism – goes with the territory

A few years ago, we were criticized by one well-known researcher, who told us that it was a waste of time interviewing people and that we, as researchers, should just catalogue the reports without getting involved. Apparently, this course of self adopted action dictated him rubber stamping one famous UFO photograph as a hoax, without even speaking to the parties concerned!

I would be the first to accept that, while I cannot categorically prove this either way, surely common sense dictates there is a benefit to interviewing people personally about their experiences, because that’s what good UFO investigation work is all about!

Haunted Skies Publisher

In 2010 we found a publisher, who agreed to publish Haunted Skies, Volume 1, and then 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6, which were produced not through email or internet, but the old-fashioned way of driving backwards and forwards to Devon – sometimes twice a month, in all weathers often ‘kipping in the car’, as we couldnt afford the accomodation.

Removed from sale – a devasting blow

Sadly, in 2015, these six books were removed from sale; this meant we had lost £2,500 in  total fees, paid to the publisher for each book – not forgetting the other out-of-pocket expenses! These books are now fetching crazy prices of up to £2,000!  However, we learnt, as I explained before, that advertisity can only spur one on – sentiments expressed by my colleague, Phil Mantle, who now publishes his books through the Flying Disk Company.

Haunted Skies Publishing

In 2012, we set ourselves up as Haunted Skies Publishing and published Volume 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11.

In November 2016, we completed the revised Volume One, in colour, and three times the original size! We are currently working on the Wiltshire book and revised Volume 2.

Incredibly, although we have now self-published Volumes 8, 9, 10, and 11 of Haunted Skies books, we have still yet to publish the events of 1992 onwards, which is what we set out to do some 20 years ago!

PM: Have you ever had a personal UFO sighting at all?

JH: 2nd sighting

In June 1996, I was with my son at The Crown Public House, Alvechurch. The time was 9.25pm. We both saw two huge well-defined ‘globes’ – the size of dustbin lids (in comparison to the tiny satelittes and aircraft overhead) – which then moved through the celestial arc across the sky, as if joined together side-by-side, before slipping down towards the eastern horizon.

3^rd sighting 

Dawn and I were in Rendlesham Forest on the 27^th of December, 2000, with Brenda Butler and other ‘sky watchers’, when an object was seen in the sky over the same area as nominated by Colonel Charles Halt and the other airmen. We took some film and were interviewed about the incident by the local news channel. Stills of the UFO are shown in The Halt Perspective.  It is important to also point out that we have experienced on more than one occasion a fall of a warm stone which fell with a thud onto the forest floor. This is referred to as ‘apports’ and is recognized phenomena, examples of which we have covered in the books.

PM: Has being a former Police Detective helped you in your research of the UFO phenomenon? 

JH: Yes, I suppose it has. However, at the end of the day it’s about treating people with decency and courtesy.  Many people who have the courage of going to the newspapers to report simply what they have seen later become the butt of ridicule by others. If one examines the thousands of UFO reports going back to the early 1960s, 90% are presented ‘tongue in cheek’ with banner grabbing headlines – published to entertain rather than alarm. After many years research, it is patently obvious, despite promises made of some form of disclosure by various Governments, that the ‘real truths’ which lie behind the daily incursions of these objects – (that’s presupposing they are known about) – will be kept from us for many years to come. I believe this is because the reality might be nothing like we could ever imagine!

PM: Whilst compiling your research for your new book, The Halt Perspective, is there any one piece of evidence that for you really stands out?

JH: The forgotten ‘wave’

There are so many pieces of evidence that do stand out; the main one that most of us are aware of is the UFO ‘wave’ known for triangular UFOs, and was the subject of so much media attention in the mid 1980s. On occasion, the Belgium Air Force attempted to intercept the UFOs….but how many people know or suspect the existence of a similar UFO ‘wave’ over Essex and its surrounding borders with East Anglia, which began approximately in 1978 and went through to 1990 and onwards?

Some of these objects were seen over Sizewell Nuclear Power Station, and the majority of these objects often showed three lights around the tips of the triangle. Sightings of three lights in the sky have provided the backcloth of so many reports that we have come across over the years.

We have tried to attract the interest of the local newspapers in the Norfolk/Suffolk localities of East Anglia about this forgotten ‘wave’, but they do not appear to be interested. Whether this is because their editors have been advised accordingly, we do not know. All we can say is that after six years of publishing these fantastic books, we have never received any interest by the tabloid newspapers apart from one or two slight references of late.

“I still didn’t say much publicly until people started putting out all kinds of garbage and nonsense…..So much disinformation out there and people bugging me about what happened – I finally decided, it’s time to tell the truth. I believe the objects that I saw at close quarter were extraterrestrial in origin and that the security services of both the United States and the United Kingdom have attempted – both then and now – to subvert the significance of what occurred at Rendlesham Forest and RAF Bentwaters by the use of well-practiced methods of disinformation.

I was a non-believer; I never really gave it a second thought before the incident. But I’ve got so much material from so many people, and talked to very credible people – people that do not want their names used – that are in very influential positions, including some that are as high in the government as you can get. I can tell you, we are not alone. I can guarantee you that.

Folks, there is an agency, a very close-held, compartmentalized agency, that’s been investigating this for years, and there’s a very active role played by many of our intelligence agencies that probably don’t even know the details of what happens once they collect the data and forward it. It’s kind of scary, isn’t it? In the last couple of years, the British have released a ton of information, but has anybody ever seen what their conclusions were, or heard anything about Bentwaters officially?

When the documents were released, the time frame I was involved in the incident is missing – it’s gone missing. Nothing else is missing. I have never been harassed over the reports I made about the Bentwaters UFO incidents, probably for a couple of good reasons – number one, my rank and some of the jobs I’ve held, but also very early on, I sat down and made a very detailed tape and made several copies of everything I know about it and they’re secluded away. Maybe I’m paranoid. I don’t know, but I think it was time well spent when I made the tapes.”

PM: What do you say to those that remain sceptical of the events in Rendlesham Forest back in late December 1980?

JH: Read The Halt Perspective book!

PM: In your opinion, how do we keep moving forward with UFO research?

JH: Learning to respect each other, instead of fighting with each other on Facebook, and other social media vying to raise individual profiles and increase the size of personal egos. Most people would never dream of writing their vociferous complaints in a letter but feel free to profane and attack others on Facebook, knowing they are not going to be taken to task. You know as well as I do that a huge number of UFO groups no longer exist and that we are becoming ‘ring fenced’ on the Internet.

Surely, as a group of people dedicated to preserving UFO activity, we should be entitled to some answers – but these are not likely to be forthcoming. How many times have we seen the media’s excitement about forthcoming MOD files, accompanied by the glare of publicity, to be dashed away when they are released? I’ve seen this now happening for over 20 years and one should ask in all honesty what it has actually achieved.  Similarly when they did release the files each year the majority of the files were low grade and failed to include many that we had personally investigated, involving being reported to the MOD over 30 years ago!  Despite assurances by the MOD to us, they would be!  As I said before at the beginning, adversity pushes us forward; we should never give up demanding an answer to what is, after all, the greatest conundrum of all time.  Most importantly the work that we all do should be preserved in book for future generations who will have to depend on the Authorities view of such phenomena.

A Wisconsin witness at Medford reported watching a hovering sphere in the night sky that split into three spheres before “turning off,” according to testimony in Case 79892 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

The witness and a friend were camping at Spearhead Point Campground in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest at 7 p.m. on October 13, 2016, when the incident occurred.

“This was our fourth night at the campground, and the first night since we had been there that the sky was clear,” the witness stated. “I had noticed a bright, white sphere in the eastern sky, and I had been trying to figure out what it was. It was too big for a star, and I thought that it might be a planet.”

The witness continued to keep an eye on the object.

“All of the sudden it started to move, slowly at first, and then faster. I told my friend what I was seeing as my friend is blind. It was moving south-southeast, and had become obscured by some evergreen trees.”

The witness then ran from the picnic table, down the steps to the dock at the campground, to gain a better view of the object that was moving south-southeast. But the object could not be seen. Then back at the picnic table area, the witness again saw the sphere.

“While I was describing the sphere, and scrambling to find a camera or our video recorder, the sphere split forming two spheres. When it split, it appeared as though the new sphere dripped off the original sphere. These spheres were originally aligned vertically, and then the lower sphere moved upward to be aligned horizontally. Once the spheres were aligned horizontally, one of the spheres split again. There were now three spheres aligned horizontally.”

The witness noticed a change in size when the spheres split.

“Each time there was a split, the spheres became smaller, and they were all bright white. The two spheres on either side just seemed to turn off, leaving the sphere in the middle. That sphere began to change colors, cycling through white to red to red-orange. This continued for about a minute, and then that sphere just turned off. The original sphere was slightly bigger than a BB held at arm’s length, and it was oriented approximately 45-degrees above the horizon.”

The witness could not estimate how far away the objects were.

“Since I’m not familiar with the area, I don’t have an estimate of how far away the object might have been from the campground. The object(s) did not make any noise, and I didn’t see anything like an exhaust trail. The overall sighting lasted around 40-50 minutes. About 20 minutes after all of the objects had disappeared, a plane flew over our campground. It was easy to hear the plane’s engine. You could see the outline of the plane in the sky, as well as see the aviation lights blinking on and off. Unfortunately, we did not get a photo of the object(s). My camera had fallen out of my backpack onto the ground under the picnic table, and I didn’t see it there until the next morning. We did get the video camera out, but were unable to record the object(s) due to a camera malfunction.”

Wisconsin MUFON State Director Susan Birttnen investigated this case and closed it as an Unknown.

“The shape of the objects was in a sphere with a glowing surface,” Birttnen wrote in her report.“The size was unknown. The color was white for two of the spheres and the third sphere was red/orange. The objects flashed sequentially. There was no sound. The elevation was at 45-degrees.The lowest altitude and distance was unknown.The objects were hovering over the Mondeaux Flowage water-way.The campground was pretty rustic. There were no street lights. The only light was from their fire pit and the nearly full moon. About 20 minutes after the objects disappeared, a plane flew over the area.”

An Iowa witness at Iowa City reported having a brief encounter with a chevron-shaped UFO that banked hard and quickly moved away, according to testimony in Case 79752 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

The witness was driving to a nearby gas station when the object was first noticed at 9:20 p.m. on October 11, 2016.

“Saw stationary lights in a ‘W’ or chevron wedge above my head with some unusual light patterns,” the witness stated.“Was silent. I am in the flight path of a municipal airfield and planes go directly over my home to land approximately 200 yards away – small craft, but slow and low — usually very loud but not enough to be alarmed.”

The witness assumed the object was a plane.

“But no accompanying sound before during or after. Nice weather – had window down driver’s side and sunroof was open. Also, it wasn’t moving. Most planes move.”

The witness described the object.

“Light pattern changed when it glided onward ahead of me, banked sharply as a lazy course correction of sort. Couldn’t recall if lights were in a pattern of changing. It was soon far ahead of me and I can’t tell if I lost sight from clouds or just distance or some other intervention. I first felt odd for a plane holding still in the air. Then it wasn’t like most planes I have seen.”

The object then quickly moved away.

“Then it accelerated away faster than a car could, even a fun car. Also, it was above me and quickly rolled to the right to be going more south-southwest and southwest. It was loosely following the road.”

Iowa MUFON Field Investigator David Kreiter investigated this case and closed it as an Unknown.

“The object itself was barely discernable behind the array of equidistant-spaced lights that outlined its chevron shape,” Kreiter wrote in his report. “The object made no noise as it hovered overhead for about 10 seconds, and then it took off due south at a very high rate of speed, banked to the right, and then continued in a south-southwest direction. It disappeared only about two to three seconds after it moved from its initial stationary position.”

The investigator interviewed the witness at the sighting location.

“He said that the general color was pink, but the lights might have had multiple colors. He said that he often saw planes coming low into the airport, so it took him a second or two to figure out exactly what he was seeing. He was shocked to see that the object was silently hovering just about one-quarter mile above his car. He didn’t stop his car, but continued on at a very slow pace. After about 10 seconds, the object took off at a very high rate of speed. After about a second, it banked slightly to the right and headed off toward the south-southwest in the same direction as highway 1.

“During the interview the witness said that the object was about the distance of ‘metal horns’ at arm’s length, which is a reference to a salute fans perform at a rock concert when they raise their arms and extend the index finger and the little finger of their hand. This distance is about two inches or about five centimeters. When the object was at its furthest point from the witness, about three seconds after the object took off at a high rate of speed and before he lost sight of it, the apparent size was about one-half the initial apparent size that the witness reported when the object was stationary above his car.

“Because of the flight characteristics of the object, the shape of the object, and the color of its lights, it is unlikely that the object was natural or human-made.The temperature was 61 degrees, with calm conditions and a clear sky at the time and date of the sighting. No similar cases were reported during the time, date, and location of this sighting to my knowledge.Taking into account the credibility of the witness and the results of the ensuing investigation, I have assigned this case a disposition of Unknown–UAV.”

A California witness at Angles Camp reported watching a distant light that illuminated his campground before making an abrupt turn and moving away at high speed, according to testimony in Case 79773 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

The witness and a friend were camping at New Melones Lake and watching the stars about 10:30 p.m. on July 26, 2016, when the incident occurred.

“We both noticed a craft that had an exceptionally bright light on the exterior slowing moving towards us from the north,” the witness stated.“About 10 seconds later, we observed the exterior light on the craft becoming significantly brighter to the point that it fully illuminated our campsite, similar to a police helicopter spotlight, but this craft was over a mile away and made no noise.”

The two watched the object as it appeared to divide.

“The object then appeared to split into two separate craft flying side-by-side and five seconds later followed by an abrupt 90-degree turn and sped off at a very high rate of acceleration covering a distance of at least five miles in under half a second – all while making no noise.”

The witness states that they were not using drugs or alcohol.

“We were both in awe at what we had witnessed and somewhat afraid. I am not sure if the craft(s) we observed were in the shape of a sphere or if that was just the external lights.”

New Melones Lake  is a reservoir on the Stanislaus River in the central Sierra Nevada foothills, within Calaveras County and Tuolumne County, California.California MUFON Field Investigator Jerry Clinton Gerow investigated this case and closed it as an Unknown.

“At this point I believe we have an Unknown,” Gerow wrote in his report.“Another possibility would be air traffic. There is a helicopter port north of the lake where the lights were apparently coming from, an airport to the northeast, southeast and southwest. A possibility would be that one or two helicopters lifted off from the helio port to the north with spot/search lights and then made an abrupt turn to their left and when they did it appeared the lights were flashing off to the left. No large planets or stars are of sufficient size to match the size of the objects which the witness says were almost moon size.”
