EXCLUSIVE / Ex-military official reveals what the US Air Force REALLY shot down during UFO encounter over Alaska

A tantalizing image of a UFO shot down by the US Air Force last year has left public speculation rife over what the horseshoe-shaped white visage actually depicts.

Some have compared it to the silvery, chevron-shaped crafts first reported by pilot Kenneth Arnold in 1947 — the historic sighting that launched the modern era of 'flying saucer' cases.

Others have compared it ominously to the alien 'engineer' spacecraft in the Ridley Scott's 2012 sci-fi horror film 'Prometheus.'

But DailyMail.com has spoken to a former officer with the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF), who has discussed the case with three active-duty members of the operational staff directly involved in this February 11, 2023 UFO shootdown.

Some have compared the UFO ominously to the alien 'engineer' spacecraft in the Ridley Scott's 2012 sci-fi horror film 'Prometheus'

According to this source, retired RCAF warrant officer Rocky Swanson, the military officers involved said the object was difficult to track.

But once they got close, they could 'very clearly' see it was a balloon, similar to the Chinese spy craft shot down days before this encounter. 

'I've spoken to three different folks that were involved in that particular event,' Swanson told DailyMail.com, 'and their stories are all the same.'

'For the most part, you're staring at a white object in a white sky, right? And so they are looking for this thing — and it's small — and they're having a hard time tracking it, because there's not a lot to track.'

'They're flying in an extraordinarily remote area,' he continued, 'trying to look for basically a needle in a stack of needles, you know?'

From his conversations with military personnel involved in the case, he believes that the image depicts the underside of a aerial platform not dissimilar from the larger Chinese spy balloon with its intelligence-collecting package hanging beneath it.  

'The round shape that you're seeing, you know, if it was three dimensional, you would see that it's a balloon,' he said. 

The apparent dark regions that give the UFO its 'Pac-Man'-like shape, he said, were caused by this package and its 'shadow.' 

'There's nobody that got excited about that event within the military,' Swanson said. 'It's not thought of as a big deal [...] It's legitimately a balloon.'

Two F-22 Raptor stealth fighter jets from US Air Force Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Alaska had been dispatched to intercept the UFO last February.

Pentagon press secretary Brigadier General Pat Ryder said at the time: 'As the object crossed into Canadian airspace, Canadian CF-18 and CP-140 aircraft [joined] the formation to further assess the object.'

At approximately 3:41 pm Eastern time, in the bitterly cold subarctic climate over Mayo, Yukon, one of these F-22 Raptors successfully blasted the UFO out of the sky with an an AIM 9X 'sidewinder' missile.

Curiously, redacted documents released by the Canadian government along with the new UFO image show that it was designated as 'unclassified' within just days of this now 19-month-old UFO incident. 

And yet, Canada's Department of National Defence (DND) did not release it until now.

Swanson believes that Canadian DND officials withheld the grainy images because the UFO it depicted looks more otherworldly than the object really was. 

'I can understand why they wouldn't want to put that out, because I would be like, "Oh, God. What are we going to do with that?"' he said in a telephone interview.

The episode was one of four UFO shootdowns that occurred in rapid succession that month, beginning with the confirmed downing of an authentic Chinese-government spy balloon off the coast of South Carolina's Myrtle Beach on Feb. 4.

The new image depicts one of the three objects that met the same fate between Feb. 10 and 12 of that year over Alaska, Lake Huron on the border of Michigan, and Canada's Yukon territory.

All three of these objects were reportedly much smaller than the Chinese spy balloon that splashed down near Myrtle Beach days earlier. 

That object, the only confirmed Chinese spy balloon of the four shot down, per Pentagon reports, carried a payload of spy sensors approximately the size of a bus via a balloon that was bigger than Disney's famous geodesic sphere at Epcot Center.

Swanson told DailyMail.com that his three military sources would not come forward publicly: 'These are currently serving members of the military. So, they're not going to be willing to come out. They can't.'

'What I'm willing to say is they're operational staff,' he added. 'They are flight crew is what I'll say.'

But their anonymity will likely do little to dampen the speculation and mistrust of both the Canadian and US government's official account of these UFO intercepts, which continues to pervade the general public. 

The new UFO photo, obtained by CTVNews.ca reporter Daniel Otis via an open records law request, also included efforts by members of Canada's own armed forces to better understand the craft that had been shot down.

Some of the Canadian military's written descriptions of the UFO appear to be at odds with statements suggesting that it was a simple balloon. 

One email from Canadian Brigadier-General Eric Laforest described the UFO as a 'cylindrical object.'

'Top quarter is metallic, remainder white. 20-foot wire hanging below with a package of some sort suspended,' Brig. Gen. Laforest wrote. 'Best description that we have.'

Canadian officials have released the first pictures of the “cylindrical” UFO shot down over Alaska in February 2023.

The grainy photo shows what appears to be a circular white object, which was shot down by a US Air Force F-22 stealth fighter while working with the Canadian military last year.

Canada’s Department of National Defence (DND) claimed the reason for the lengthy 19-month delay between footage and incident was that releasing the image “may create more questions/confusion”.

There's lots of quality news coming out of the US.

Taylor Paxton, director of e-communications for Canadian DND, said in an email the confusion would be inevitable “given the current public environment and statements related to the object being benign”.

Obtained by CTVNews.ca, the emails mention descriptions of the UFO from Canada’s armed forces.

“Top quarter is metallic, the remainder white. 20-foot wire hanging below with a package of some sort suspended,” Canadian Brigadier-General Eric Laforest wrote. “Best description that we have.”

Laforest went on to dub the object “cylindrical”.

The original sighting of the UFO came hot off the heels after the US military confirmed the shooting down of a “Chinese spy-balloon” reportedly as big as three buses over the same stretch of land.

US officials said at the time the balloon had almost certainly been flying over sensitive sites to collect information about them.

Iain Boyd, professor of aerospace engineering at the University of Colorado, spoke to CTVNews.ca about the Canadian government’s reluctance to release the image as an issue of national security.

“It comes down to these episodes illustrating a potential vulnerability in the US/Canada defensive system,” Boyd said.

“Certainly the failure to provide more information has fed conspiracy theories but the military will likely accept that outcome over disclosing information that may help an adversary identify defensive weaknesses.”

This is the first image of  UFO shot down by American fighter jets during a chase near Alaska last year.

The photo shows a seemingly glowing horse shoe-shaped object with ill-defined edges over the Yukon territory in northwest Canada in February 2023.

It was shot down by a US Air Force F-22 stealth fighter on a joint mission with the Canadian Armed Forces following the now infamous Chinese spy balloon drama of February 2023.

Redacted documents show the image was designated as 'unclassified' within just days of the now 19-month-old incident, yet Canada's defense department did not release it to the public.

A possible reason, as one public affairs official with Canada's Department of National Defence (DND) warned colleagues, was internal fears that releasing this unclassified UFO image 'may create more questions/confusion.'

This official, a director of communications named Taylor Paxton, advised military colleagues that this confusion would be inevitable 'given the current public environment and statements related to the object being benign.' 

Paxton suggested that any move by the Royal Canadian Air Force to publish the photo on social media would likely only raise more inquiries from the general public and the press 'regardless of the text that will accompany the post.' 

The craft was one of three shot down over Alaska, Yukon and Lake Huron between Feb 10 and 12 2023.

The three objects were reportedly much smaller than the Chinese spy balloon that was grounded off the coast of South Carolina days earlier.

Dark portions visible along the top center of the UFO in this newly released image may depict either that upper metallic region or the remains of the alleged 'package.' 

But this release only adds more mystery to the wave of espionage-tinted UFO activity that surrounded the confirmed downing of an authentic Chinese-government spy balloon earlier that month off the coast of North Carolina's Myrtle Beach.  

Iain Boyd, a professor of aerospace engineering and director of the Center for National Security Initiatives at the University of Colorado, described the Canadian government's reticence to release the image as an issue of national security — despite the image's 'unclassified' designation. 

'It comes down to these episodes illustrating a potential vulnerability in the U.S./Canada defensive system,' Boyd opined. 

'Certainly the failure to provide more information has fed conspiracy theories,' as he told CTVNews.ca, 'but the military will likely accept that outcome over disclosing information that may help an adversary identify defensive weaknesses.' 

According to the report for CTV News, the network's journalists plan to petition the Canadian military for a higher resolution version of this UFO image.

This is obviously a real UFO, alien spacecraft seem flying over Texas. This is a puzzling sighting left residents of San Antonio and Hondo intrigued on Wednesday evening. Kristen Allen was on her way to drop off her daughter at gymnastics practice when she noticed an unusual object flying through the sky. Using her phone, she quickly recorded the phenomenon, capturing a glowing object moving southbound along Bulverde Road just after 5 p.m., during sunset.

“It appeared to be descending straight down, but it was quite distant,” Kristen recounted. Curious and unsure of what she had witnessed, she shared the video with her husband, Ryan. After he posted it on social media, several acquaintances confirmed they had also seen the strange object.

Adding to the intrigue, Samantha Gonzales snapped a photo of the object over Hollywood Park in northern San Antonio, and Christina Alexis, located nearly 60 miles away in Hondo, also managed to record the mysterious sight. Her footage depicted the object with a striking red glow across the night sky.

“I noticed the glow became more pronounced as you moved further west,” Ryan Allen observed.

While the Allens remain uncertain about what the object could be, their young sons have their own theories. “We thought it might be a missile,” said Gage Allen. His brother, Trace, offered a different perspective: “To me, it looked kind of like a plane.”

The family, along with other witnesses, continues to seek answers, speculating on what the strange sighting could have been.

Whether or not you believe in UFOs, there's no denying that this incredible craft is truly out of this world.

Amazing footage shows how an inventor has created a fully functional flying saucer-shaped jet boat in his home workshop.

Made of fiberglass and a few steel plates, the stunning creation features automatic doors, light-up panels, and just enough room for the pilot to sit.

While it might not soar through the air, the boat still clocks some impressive speeds reaching 31 mph (50km/h) as it skims across the water.

In a post on Facebook sharing the amazing invention, the craftsman Tran Long Ho wrote: 'I created what I was dreaming.'

While Mr Ho's creation might look futuristic, it actually begins with some very basic materials.

In a video documenting the building process, he begins by building up a model out of sand in the shape of the UFO's top section.

This sand mould is then covered with a thin layer of concrete to create a hard shell, over which Mr Ho and his team layer sheets of fibreglass and epoxy.

Once the fibreglass has been set, the builders are able to lift up the structure and chip away the concrete to leave a thin, light hull.

Next, the hull is reinforced with a lattice of fibreglass ridges and hexagons before the process is repeated to create the bottom hull where the engines are installed.

Mr Ho then creates cutouts for a series of hexagonal windows and sliding door panels.

Mr Ho begins by sculpting a UFO shape out of sand which he uses to make a concrete mould

By layering fibreglass over the mould, the builders create a dish-like shape. Mr Ho then attaches a pattern of hexagonal boards to provide structure and mark the location of future panels

Using a cleverly designed mechanism, the doors are able to open and slide to the sides just like you might imagine a real spaceship.

With the overall structure in place, Mr Ho turns his attention to the electronics and controls.

LED strips are used to provide a futuristic glow around the panels and a steering wheel, pedals, and dashboard are installed within the cockpit.

In the video, you can also see as Mr Ho solders dozens of small solar panel segments into large panels which are installed on the outside of the craft.

Since we don't see Mr Ho install a battery system it is likely that these are used to power the lights and electronic doors.

Once the fibreglass has dried, the process is repeated to create a similar bottom layer where the engine is installed

The boat is fitted with sliding doors and lined with grey material to make it more comfortable

After a final lick of paint and some last pieces of decoration, the flying saucer is complete and ready to test.

The video shows as Mr Ho - who has to recline quite far back to fit in the low cockpit - races along a river at high speeds of 31 mph (50km/h), according to Vietnamese news outlet Tuoi Tre News.

Part of the craft's bottom section is shaped like a conventional flat-bottomed boat which gives the round vessel more directional control.

However, the ride still looks far from smooth as the boat often lurches backwards and leaps out of the water before jolting back down.

The UFO-shaped boat is completed with a coating of grey paint. Mr Ho also installs a series of solar panels on the upper surface to provide power for the doors and lights 

On social media, commenters expressed their amazement at this impressive feat of nautical engineering.

One viewer wrote: 'I am an old retired engineer. I have designed a lot of things in my time, but this is the coolest thing I have ever seen!'

'Never in my life have I seen so much talent in one individual. You are a gift to all mankind. Thank you so much for your inspiration and creativity,' wrote another.

While another enthusiastic commenter wrote: 'You are an alien from the space. That's how you made a boat spaceship from scratch! No human could do what you did!'

The electronic doors of the vessel open with the press of a button and allow the pilot to enter. On the doors, a message reads: 'The universe is vast and life is endless'  

Mr Ho is seen driving his boat at high speeds on a river. There is not a lot of room in the craft but the pilot is able to see through the small windows

If you were thinking about getting a UFO boat of your own, the bad news is that Mr Ho says he doesn't make products for commercial sale.

However, in a post on his Facebook fan page translated from Vietnamese Mr Ho writes: 'The works I do are mainly recording videos for entertainment, but anyone who likes to buy then I will sell them to get the money for accessories to invest for new and more interesting videos!'

Referring to an older jet boat, Mr Ho said that it was 'somewhere around 20 million' adding 'If you like it, just message me.'

Assuming that Mr Ho means 20 million Vietnamese Dong, that would be the equivalent of roughly £612 ($814).

Mr Ho is yet to say whether his latest UFO-shaped creation has been sold, so there could still be time to grab yourself a bargain.

Hundreds of residents were left in awe when they spotted a mysterious object hovering over their city. 

Normally, such objects are spotted in the dead of night, but this one in the western Mexican city of Guadalajara was in broad daylight last Friday.

'Here comes my flying saucer customer,' Eduardo Chavez, the owner of a rims and tire shop, could be heard saying in the background in one video showing it hovering over his shop that's had 6.3 million views  

'He's coming for rims and tires...  At your service. Take a look at whatever you like.'

The wild videos sparked the never-ending conversation of whether life exists outside Earth.

'There is another UFO that passes very fast behind the one that is still,' one TikToker commented. 'You have to pause the video a couple of times till you see it. It's way too fast.'

'Every civilization evolves at the precipice of destruction,' another TikTok user said. 'Maybe the influx in sightings means we're either almost completely wiped out or on the verge of a species wide evolution.'

ORNL, a research institution originally established during WWII, has historically been involved in nuclear energy research, but it also has experience analyzing materials believed to be extraterrestrial.

AARO’s mission was to determine if the object was from Earth or if it could have extraterrestrial roots, specifically whether the shard could act as a terahertz waveguide—a structure that directs electromagnetic waves. This would potentially align with theories suggesting that alien technology could use advanced waveguides for purposes like levitation or propulsion. However, the findings painted a different picture.

Analysis Results

In 2022, ORNL conducted a thorough isotopic analysis of the shard. This method allowed scientists to identify the specific isotopic signatures of the metals in the alloy. By comparing the sample’s magnesium and lead isotopes with known isotopic ranges on Earth, the scientists confirmed that the metal had a terrestrial origin. The isotope ratios of magnesium, unique to Earth’s solar system, indicated that the metal likely formed within our region of space, specifically in a star-forming zone.

Further studies revealed that the shard’s structure had undergone some degree of fractionation, a process where lighter and heavier isotopes separate due to extreme heat or stress during manufacturing. However, the material remained within the range of Earth’s naturally occurring isotopic patterns, strongly suggesting that this fragment wasn’t a product of alien technology.

In fact, the shard’s chemical structure was similar to magnesium alloys commonly used during the post-WWII era. Magnesium alloys were poorly understood at the time, and the unusual mixture of elements in the shard could be the result of early research into creating stronger and lighter aircraft materials.

One of the most intriguing aspects of the analysis centered on the presence of bismuth in the shard. Bismuth is a metal known for its ability to guide terahertz waves, which are emitted by energy sources and can be used in various technologies, including communication devices. In theory, if the bismuth in the shard were pure and layered correctly, it could act as a terahertz waveguide, potentially allowing for the levitation of objects.

However, the bismuth in the shard wasn’t pure—it contained traces of lead and was layered in a way that disrupted its ability to function as a proper waveguide. This key finding reduced the likelihood that the shard was extraterrestrial in origin.

The Verdict: A Fascinating but Earthly Find

After months of speculation and analysis, ORNL concluded that the shard was likely created on Earth. According to the report, the object was “manufactured terrestrially, albeit with an uncommon mixture of elements.” Despite the unusual properties and composition, the shard does not exhibit any biosignatures or technosignatures that would suggest it was alien in origin.

To the Stars Academy has since issued a statement acknowledging the findings but also expressing their desire for further investigation. The organization pointed out that while the reports confirm the material’s terrestrial origin, some anomalies remain unexplained. As a result, they are eager to continue their research in collaboration with ORNL.

While this particular shard may not be the smoking gun for alien technology, the investigation represents a significant step forward in understanding unexplained phenomena. Every time scientists rule out terrestrial origins for strange objects, it narrows down the possibilities, bringing us closer to discovering what truly lies beyond our planet.

Speculation about alien life has long captivated our imaginations, and while this shard likely belongs to Earth, it doesn’t mean the search for extraterrestrial technology is over. Reports of alien abductions first became widespread during the 1960s and 70s. Alleged abductees frequently described undergoing experimental procedures performed by extraterrestrial beings. Some even claimed that these aliens had inserted unknown objects into their bodies.

On the night of August 31, at exactly 10.13, an American couple caught sight of a mysterious, shining object in the night sky above Montana, US.

“Is that a shooting star?” one of them exclaimed.

However, when they moved to get a clearer view, both were astonished by the ‘jaw-dropping’ sight of an enormous craft with blinking lights and an orange-red glow swirling at its base.

This extraordinary Reddit entry post from two weeks ago – describing what is known as ‘close encounters of the third kind’ from the eponymous Hollywood hit – adds to a growing list of UFO sightings reported in the US ahead of a congressional hearing on what is officially called ‘unexplained aerial phenomena’.

According to media reports, the hearing is expected to take place in the coming weeks.

The incident detailed in the post occurred in Choteau, a small and quiet city nestled in the heart of the US state of Montana —just 60 miles from a US Air Force nuclear weapons base.

In May, New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, who confirmed the upcoming hearing, had expressed concern about unidentified drones near military sites.

“It is deeply concerning that they are spyware by adversaries, and so we want to have more information on that,” Gillibrand said during an interview with the Ask a Pol podcast, where the point of discussion was on the implications of a declassified All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) report.

“We also want to try to continue to build credibility within this office (AARO) so more of the public can feed in sightings and have a place and a platform to send information and inquiries,” the New York Democrat was quoted as saying.

“Because that's eventually what this office is supposed to do.”

The All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) was established in 2022 following a 2021 Pentagon report on unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP), which documented 144 sightings, but could only explain one, attributing the lack of conclusions for the remaining 143 to insufficient data​.

AARO’s aim has not only been to address security concerns arising from the frequent encounters between military facilities or aircraft and unidentified flying objects, but also to explore the possibility of extraterrestrial life.

Under the 2023 National Defense Authorization Act, the office was required to issue a report to Congress detailing the government's historical record relating to “unidentified anomalous phenomena” (UAP) since 1945.

It delivered the first of two volumes of that to Congress in March, which found “no evidence” linking sightings to aliens or extraterrestrial intelligence, instead attributing most incidents to “ordinary objects and phenomena” or cases of misidentification.

“AARO recognizes that many people sincerely hold versions of these beliefs which are based on their perception of past experiences, the experiences of others whom they trust, or media and online outlets they believe to be sources of credible and verifiable information,” the report said.

However, the AARO report has been a point of contention since its release, with critics arguing that it is riddled with numerous errors and omissions and fails to adequately address the historical and scientific aspects of UAP phenomena.

“While I appreciate AARO's efforts, their recent report lacks depth and transparency,” Dr. Beatriz Villarroel, an astronomer at the Nordic Institute for Theoretical Physics in Stockholm, tells TRT World.

“For example, their downplaying of the 1952 Washington D.C. UFO event was particularly notable”.

In July 1952, a series of unidentified flying object (UFO) sightings were reported over Washington D.C., in an event often called the “1952 Washington Flap.”

Following the reports, the US government scrambled fighter jets to intercept the objects, but the UFOs reportedly outmanoeuvred and outran the jets.

Although the Air Force later attributed the sightings to possible radar glitches from temperature inversions, the incident, which prompted widespread public attention at the time, remains one of the most debated UFO cases in history.

Villarroel also pointed out a broader issue within the scientific community, saying that many journals remain reluctant to publish research on UFOs, with papers often being rejected outright before they even undergo peer review.

This lack of academic engagement, she believes, leads to “a gap in knowledge” where governments are expected to provide answers without proper scientific engagement.

Ever since the 2021 Pentagon report documented numerous sightings of UAP without ruling out extraterrestrial possibilities; more and more people have started to believe in the existence of UFOs, according to statistics.

In 2022, a YouGov poll indicated that the percentage of Americans who believe that UFOs are likely alien ships or life forms has increased from 20 percent in 1996 to 34 percent in 2022, a year after the Pentagon report was published.

A Gallup poll from 2021 also supports these findings, with figures indicating that over 40 percent of Americans believe alien spacecraft have visited Earth, up from 33 percent in 2019.

Several residents of Mexico shared shocking video footage of a UFO seemingly hovering to the ground, drawing a mixed response.

Videos on social media captured what appeared to be an oval-sized object hovering over the western city of Zitácuaro on September 8.

The footage shows the UFO-like figure hovering near a tree while a second recording captured it slowly moving in front of the overcast skies.

The alleged flying saucer sightings were reported in the neighborhoods of El Naranjo and Manzanillos.

Following the videos, some users took to X, formerly Twitter, to share their belief that aliens had made their way to Mexico.

'That's that eye diamond UFO shape,' one person commented. '(Must) be some kind of organic ship.'

'Spectacular video, contact between humans and alien races is getting closer and closer,' another X user chimed in. 'Anyone who continues to believe that it is a balloon, a drone, a hologram or something else is either blind or does not want to see reality.'

However, others were quick to dispel the claims, pointing out that it was most likely just one of the many sky lanterns that float across the Mexican skies during the Globos de Cantoya festival.

In the quiet skies of North Dakota, an extraordinary event unfolded one night that would forever embed itself in the annals of UFO history. During the Cold War, Minot Air Force Base played a crucial role in the United States’ defense strategy, housing both B-52 nuclear bombers and Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBMs). The base was fortified by 150 Minuteman missile silos, each containing a nuclear missile capable of retaliating against a potential Soviet strike.

On an otherwise quiet night, airmen John O’Connor and Lloyd Isley, two maintenance technicians, were dispatched to perform routine checks at one of these silos, codenamed “November 7.” These young technicians were not trained in combat; their job was to ensure the missiles were operational. But on this particular night, their mission would quickly turn from routine to extraordinary.

The Strange Light in the Sky

As O’Connor and Isley drove towards the missile silo, O’Connor spotted an unusual bright light in the sky. Initially dismissing it as a farmer’s light, he soon realized that the light was moving — and worse, it seemed to be pacing their vehicle. The strange object floated just above the ground and followed them as they continued their journey. Unease set in, and O’Connor decided to radio the control tower, asking if there were any aircraft or military maneuvers occurring in the area. The response he received confirmed their fears: there were no military operations or aircraft in the vicinity.

The light, now moving closer, emitted a strange noise akin to a jet engine, heightening the tension. Both men believed that they were being monitored by the object, which only grew larger and brighter as it approached. They soon realized this was no ordinary aircraft or drone; it was something far more mysterious.

A Potential Threat to the Missile Silo

With the object now hovering near the missile site, O’Connor and Isley felt a growing sense of danger. O’Connor, fearing for the safety of the nuclear missile, immediately reported the situation to the base, calling for backup. Isley, unarmed and anxious, grabbed an axe from the back of their vehicle as a makeshift defense. Though they were maintenance personnel and not combat-trained soldiers, the gravity of the situation pushed them to prepare for the unknown.

As the mysterious object moved over the silo, both men noticed its immense size, estimating it to be a quarter the size of an aircraft carrier. Despite the overwhelming size of the craft, it remained eerily silent except for the faint engine-like sound.

Backup Arrives and a National Security Concern

Meanwhile, the security team stationed at the base, including Airmen Joe Jablonsky and Gregory Adams, had been dispatched to aid O’Connor and Isley. As the security team raced toward the scene, they too witnessed the bright light in the sky. By this time, the object was so large and close to the ground that it also appeared on radar, confirming its presence and elevating the situation to a matter of national security.

The security team arrived, but despite their presence and preparations, the UFO continued to hover over the missile silo. The military personnel faced an unprecedented dilemma: while they were trained to protect the base and its nuclear weapons, they had never encountered a threat like this. They couldn’t fire without clear provocation, especially over sensitive military grounds.

A B-52 Bomber’s Encounter

At the same time, a B-52 bomber returning from a training mission was preparing to land at Minot Air Force Base. The bomber’s crew was asked to observe and confirm the sighting. Not only did the crew confirm the presence of the strange object, but they also witnessed a second UFO at a higher altitude, approximately 12,000 feet in the air. This indicated that there were now two unidentified objects in the vicinity.

Moments after this confirmation, the UFO over the silo suddenly rocketed into the sky, disappearing from view. The B-52 crew also reported their object vanishing at the same time.

Aftermath and Military Investigation

The aftermath of the sighting sparked immediate concern at the highest levels of the U.S. military. The situation had implications not only for national security but also for the protection of nuclear assets. Given that multiple credible witnesses, including Air Force personnel and radar operators, had confirmed the presence of the object, the incident warranted serious investigation.

The U.S. Air Force initiated an inquiry through its UFO investigation division, Project Blue Book. Captain Bradford Run, the B-52 pilot who witnessed one of the objects, provided a detailed sketch of what he saw, adding further legitimacy to the account. However, the official explanation that emerged from the investigation was unsatisfactory to many. The sightings were attributed to a rare atmospheric phenomenon known as plasma balls, where ionized gas in the atmosphere could create glowing, moving objects.

Utah resident shocked after capturing eerie close-up footage of flashing UFO: 'I was blown away'

A Utah resident has been left shocked after capturing what appeared to be a triangle-shaped multi-colored UFO flashing in the night sky.

The unidentified Reddit user, who goes by Cruxstew on the platform, uploaded a 50-second video of the May 2 sighting from their home in Southern Utah. 

The video showed a small orb in the sky rapidly changing colors. As the resident zoomed in on the object, the light flashed between red, blue, green and white in a matter of seconds, and appeared to have an aura surrounding it. 

'I was blown away by what I saw,' the person wrote on the UFOs Reddit channel. 

They also claimed that this video is just one a dozen unidentified phenomena that lit up the Southern Utah sky that night.

'This is one of over a dozen similar UAP’s I saw that night,' the Utah resident wrote, before adding that there were 'similar sightings by multiple people in this area.' 

'The multi-color pulsating light was triangular throughout the whole video until it disappeared,' the user added. 'No other lights, when zoomed in, were triangular. 

'The triangular shape wasn’t from a lens artifact or distortion. The light wasn’t from a plane or satellite and it wasn’t stationary.' 

'This is out in the middle of the desert. There were over 15 of these objects within an hour,' they continued. 'These were moving horizontal across the horizon at variable speeds, much faster than planes at seemingly similar distances.'

Although they did not disclose where exactly in Southern Utah they lived, the Beehive State is one of the best places to spot the unusual, according to research done by the University of Utah. 

'I was blown away by what I saw,' the person wrote on the UFO Reddit channel. 'This is one of over a dozen similar UAP’s I saw that night' 

The western part of the US, including Utah, have lots of flat land and open skies, offering greater potential to spot a UFO than in more mountainous or populated areas. 

In addition, Utah, Nevada, and New Mexico have links to UFO conspiracies from Area 51 in Nevada to the Skinwalker Ranch in Ballard, Utah, where UAP (unidentified anomalous phenomenon) have been recorded by secret government programs and the popular History Channel show The Secret of Skinwalker Ranch. 

'People are out and looking skyward,' Richard Medina, associate professor of geography at the University of Utah, said in the study that analyzed a 20-year period across the 21st Century, from 2001 to 2020.

'The idea is that if you have a chance to see something, then it’s more likely that you’re going to see unexplained phenomena in the sky'.

'There’s more technology in the sky than ever before so the question is: What are people actually seeing? It’s a tough question to answer, and it is an important one because any uncertainty can be a potential threat to national security,' he added. 

Moab, Utah, is the number one spot in the state for UFO sightings. It also ranked 22nd in the US, according to Axios. 

Nearly all of Utah's counties had more reported UFO sightings per capita than the average of 34.3 sightings per 100,000 residents between 2020 and 2023, according to an Axios report. 

The Salt Lake Metro area had 47.1 sights per 100,000 residents. Grand County had 340.9, while Wayne County had 315. 

Despite the many alleged sightings across the US, most UFO claims turn out to be balloons, drones, 'airborne clutter,' or military activity, according to Axios.

Ominous images of a perfectly spherical UFO, seemingly dotted with yellow 'landing lights,' have left some researchers certain one is 'the first selfie with a UFO in history.'

Taken by Brazilian UFO researcher and author Edie Meireles in 2011, the snaps show the apparent craft above a hiking trail to 'La cascada de la purificación,' a chilly waterfall in Brazil's high-altitude Chapada Diamantina National Park.

What followed, at least, according to one of Meireles' UFO-hunting peers, was years of 'threats and intrigues' — with two members of their group 'killed by the military' and three more 'abducted.'

And by Meireles' own account, his sighting in one of South America's most scenic ecological preserves led to a raid on his home by 'soldiers in camouflage and black.'

Skeptics on social media, however, have alleged that the photos are everything from 'sky lanterns' held aloft by hot air from candles to outright doctored images.

DailyMail.com reached out to Meireles for further comment — but the researcher, who serves as admin for 'el Grupo de Pesquisa Tecnológica Extra Avançada' ('the Extra-Advanced Technology Research Group') on Facebook has not replied.

But, in a March 2022 post, Meireles boasted that his candid snaps were 'the only selfie with a flying saucer.'

And, in a submission to Brazilian nonprofit Museu da Pessoa (Museum of the Person) the UFO researcher recounted his trips back to the national park for repeated, but less-well-documented, encounters with these UFOs and their occupants.

Those expeditions, documented in his book Fieldworkers: Pesquisadores de Campo in 2016, according to Meireles, led to further unwanted encounters with the military.

'The result of the interrogation was [...] Fractures: 4 left ribs and left knee [...] Perforation with bleeding in the left lung,' and worse, Meireles told the nonprofit.

One account of the 2011 sighting, attributed to Meireles, described a UFO whose onboard devices or novel means of propulsion managed to either accidentally or intentionally leave him stranded in the park.

'I got out of the car and photographed,' according to a Reddit posting quoting Meireles. 'It was an indescribable wonderful emotion to have photographed a UFO so clearly visible.'

But, the account continues: 'About 40 minutes later, still on the road, my car turned off, I braked, I tried to turn the key and nothing, absolutely nothing.

'I saw a light on the hood and I looked up and there was a UFO standing on top of my car, I opened the door and ran,' the account continues. 

'I even stopped to take a Selfie with them. My car was towed by a tractor the next day, it burned all electrical parts.'

This version of his encounter states that Meireles was travelling to the historic district near the national park, Serra de Igatú, although a 2016 posting apparently by Meireles on Facebook asserts the images were taken on his was to the waterfall at the park known as 'La cascada de la purificación.'

Some champions of Meireles' UFO research have attributed the murky stories around his incredibly crisp and visually compelling photographs to the alleged hostile encounters with the military.

Hélio Nunes de Camargo, the self-decribed founder of UFOs na Chapada – Centro Ufológico da Chapada Diamantina, wrote that Meireles' UFOs Bahai research group disbanded over the alleged military harassments and violence.

'They are leaving UFOlogy to live their own lives away from threats and intrigues,' Nunes de Camargo wrote in a 2014 post to his group's Facebook page.

The UFO researcher recounted the deaths and abductions that UFOs Bahai is alleged to have faced, adding: 'They told me that families are suffering a lot and they don't want to make other families suffer.' 

Other UFO researchers online, however, have had trouble with this explanation. 

'The fact that he's [Meireles] still uploading those photos to his Facebook account every few months proves that might not be correct,' Reddit user spriz2 opined.

'I've written to Edie multiple times on Facebook over the last year to try and gain more knowledge on this event,' the Redditer explained. 'He's ignored every message and comment.'

Others, however, not only found the case credible but believed they had seen this same UFO themselves.

'Holy F***, this is identical to what I saw right before Covid hit,' one Redditer, who goes by ehtseeoh, said.

The poster said that the bottom of the craft he saw 'rotated when it glowed red with an orange center, and then it did a quick zig zag and it was gone,' making 'zero sound' as it vanished in an instant.

'I screamed laughed and cried,' the poster said. 'FINALLY the orb I've been looking for online, this guy has a selfie with it haha.'

DailyMail.com also reached out to noted UFO skeptic and computer programmer Mick West of Sacramento, California, who weighed-in saying: 'They look photoshopped to me, but could be practical effects.'

The prolific, skeptically minded, UFO researcher and former video game designer noted that UFO cases like this, with limited information like static images and inconsistent eye-witness testimony, should always be taken with a grain of salt.  

'In cases like this we need actual evidence that the photos are NOT fake before attempting to explain them,' West told DailyMail.com via email.

The new Senate hearing, which could arrive as early as September, follows another bizarre summer of US military whistleblower claims about these baffling airborne mysteries — including ex-Pentagon official Luis Elizondo's revelations that he personally handled an 'alien' implant removed from a veteran servicemember. 

New York Democratic Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, who confirmed the hearing, said: 'It's a priority for me because I think it's very important we continue to make things publicly available.'

The UFO, which can mostly be seen by 'a rotating orange/red light on the bottom' after it shifted from appearing like a long, gleaming white streak, was not one of Elon Musk's Starlink satellite trains commonly mistaken for alien craft, the witness said. 

'I'm familiar with Starlink videos,' he emphasized. 'While we were watching the object it was very apparent that the lights were around the silhouette of a large craft.'

'You could not "see between the lights,"' as he explained the encounter to the r/UFOs subreddit. 'It was solid dark behind them. Our take is that we were seeing a disc shape from the side.'
