Nat Geo’s Chasing UFOs: Two of the Stars Say the Show was Hijacked

My last article on this website, Nat Geo’s Chasing UFOs: Investigation as Farce, roundly criticized the format and content of the new reality series currently being aired on the National Geographic channel. Having meticulously investigated UFO activity at nuclear weapons sites for 39 years—utilizing declassified U.S. government documents and the testimony of more than 130 military veterans—I was appalled by the ridiculous thrashing around in the dark and superficial-to-non-existent analysis by the trio of “investigators” offered up in the program’s first three episodes.

I was/am concerned that public and scientific perceptions about the UFO phenomenon, and those who actually research it, will be very negatively impacted as a result of Chasing UFO’s pretend-investigation approach to the subject. God knows there already exists a pervasive perception, at least in some quarters, that there is no “there” there. Therefore, this crap was the last thing that I, or anyone who wishes to learn the facts about UFOs, needed to see on their TV screens.

Out of a sense of fair play, upon posting the article I emailed one of the show’s stars, filmmaker James Fox—whose previous two UFO documentaries I loved—and notified him that I had just publicly trashed him and his current project. To his credit, he took my very harsh but accurate criticism in stride and, in response, subsequently offered some mostly-apologetic commentary on UFO researcher, journalist, and best-selling author Leslie Kean’s Facebook site:


Shortly thereafter, a second member of the Chasing UFOs trio, Dr. Ben McGee, added his own input. Both comments appear below and, as of this moment, over 40 other individuals have been added their views to the very influential blog.

James Fox said: I know how disappointed all of you are. I am too. It's not the show that was sold to both myself and scientist Ben. Two months into it, we were off to a great start; good locations, solid witnesses and some opportunities for Ben to apply his field research as a geologist at some crash sites. Very exciting stuff. Unfortunately, when we actually got out in the field we began to realize that they were more interested in poking around a night than allocating the time necessary during the day as apparently (so we were told) Americans love watching others sneak around at night from the comfort of their couches. Ben and I reluctantly played along...and it wasn't always bad. We really set up field maps and surveillance at the Roswell crash site (with a slew of high tech gear) and ran out of daylight. As it was in the middle of nowhere we all decided to work through the night and did find something...there were other cases in the show where when witnesses claimed to see strange lights appear in certain areas and that too made some sense for us to go out at night...but for the most part it was gratuitous night time boloney. As far as the title, it was UFO Investigations until they switched it to Chasing UFOs after it was all shot and edited. So with a lack of control in the field and zero in post the show is what it is. Having said that, all my previous works are circulating Nat Geo headquarters and I've been influencing and establishing contacts in the mainstream (middle america mainstream) and will continue to do so and I will only return if I'm on as a producer all the way through to the end. Will it ever be I Know What I Saw or Leslie's great work...? No, but I'll do my best to make is a credible while entertaining as possible (as that's most important to Nat Geo). I promise I'll either quit or change my position within the show because at least I can make it all make some sense. The show does get a bit better further down the road but not a lot. Please bare with me a bit longer as I've jumped into the lions den to see what I could do from the inside. My credibility and reputation has, deservedly, taken a serious hit but know that I'm hoping to come out with an opportunity that otherwise wouldn't have presented itself. Fingers crossed. James

Ben McGee said: Greetings, all - James asked me to chime in as well. When we were brought onboard, the project certainly had a much harder inclination than its final realization, and as a career scientist I was excited that NatGeo was at the helm (unaware of their desire for a major shift in programming flavor). Our intentions were very sincere, and the project working title was even more serious than James remembers: Sightings Investigated. For my own part, while personally unconvinced of any extraterrestrial visitation, I had plans to provide insightful context that I thought viewers of all stripes would appreciate and find engaging - examples of spaceflight technology, astronomy, planetary science - helping anchor the show and explain why the scientific establishment supports the possibility of extraterrestrial life yet is unconvinced of extraterrestrial visitation either now or in the distant past. We filmed much of this content, but as you no doubt noticed, the great majority was ultimately not included. Apparently, such is television. James and I both had expectations and (for our own reasons) hopes of an ultimately serious product. We both saw the project heading in a different direction as time went on and were powerless to influence it. Injecting science into mainstream media is also problematic, and I am suffering heat in my own circles for the lack thereof on the show. I will personally vouch that James's motives were true, and if anyone is interested in the science that we did perform, I’m keeping a blog on the NatGeo website (linked below).

My own opinion, expressed in great detail in my first a article on this subject, is that the fix was in from the get-go and neither Fox, McGee nor Erin Ryder (the trio’s third member) had any real chance of influencing or altering the ridiculous outcome.

Indeed, the Nat Geo network’s track record on UFO “documenataries” speaks for itself. As I wrote in the other article, “Over the years I had told several people, only half-jokingly, that if the Nat Geo scripts were not actually written at CIA headquarters, the network was at least making the agency very happy by broadcasting its poorly researched, extremely biased, essentially propagandistic shows on the UFO subject.”

Those comments were specifically directed toward Nat Geo’s other new UFO program, The Truth Behind UFOs: Popped, a true-to-form debunking exercise—only the latest of many—which aired the night before the premier of Chasing UFOs. Given the absurd ambiance offered by latter, I suppose I can now add, “Not to mention making otherwise serious people who sincerely wish to investigate the phenomenon look like fools.”

ROSWELL: Battelle Scientist Confesses To UFO Crash Debris Analysis

     Newly discovered documents reveal that in the months immediately following the purported 1947 UFO crash at Roswell, secret government studies began on a material that was previously unknown to science. The "memory metal" that was studied precisely matches some of the debris material reported by several witnesses to the crash. Evidence shows that -under military direction- these unique metal studies were undertaken by a contracted laboratory that possessed advanced technical capabilities that the U.S. government itself did not have at the time. A former high-level scientist employed by the involved laboratory has offered a confession that he was tasked to study the crashed UFO material. Information provided by two U.S. Air Force Generals also offers direct support for this discovery.

The documents suggest that after the crash, the US government attempted to develop a unique material that is today referred to as memory metal. This shape-recovery alloy was reported by several witnesses to the Roswell crash in the summer of 1947. The lightweight "morphing" material was able to be crumpled or deformed and then return itself instantly and seamlessly to its original state. The metallurgical discoveries that resulted from these studies were then "seeded" for further technology development to other government agencies (including NASA) and through a series of military contracts to universities and industry.

The laboratory contracted by Wright Patterson Air Force Base to perform these studies was Battelle Memorial Institute in Columbus, OH. It has been credibly reported that Wright Patterson Air Force Base was the very base where the Roswell UFO debris was flown after the crash.

Recently obtained documents reveal that these studies for Wright Patterson were conducted at Battelle under the direction of Dr. Howard C. Cross. In the late 1940's, H.C Cross was Battelle's expert scientist in exotic metallurgy and Titanium alloy research.

Curiously –although he was a research metallurgist- Cross was also Battelle’s "point person" in later studies on UFOs that Battelle conducted in the early 1950's for the U.S. Air Force's official UFO study, Project Bluebook. Cross is likely an author of Project Bluebook's still-missing Report Number 13. He is also the author of a strange letter from Battelle to Wright Patterson known as "The Pentacle" memo. Dr. Cross' historic role will be detailed in a forthcoming article.

Founded in 1929, Battelle is engaged in research, development and commercialization of technological innovation. They specialize in materials science and engineering, life sciences, energy science and national security. Battelle contract operates many of our country's National Laboratories. This includes some of the U.S.'s most sensitive installations such as Oak Ridge, Lawrence Livermore and Brookhaven laboratories. Battelle is headquartered in proximity to Wright Patterson- and remains one of the nation's leading defense contractors. Their metallurgical capabilities and technical talent continue to be recognized as world-class.

The General's Widow: A Roswell Tell-All

     Captivating and credible testimony recently obtained from the elderly widow of a highly-placed U.S. Air Force General reveals that the Roswell crash of 1947 was in fact an extraterrestrial event. Her confession affirms that the true nature of the wreck has been shrouded in secrecy for decades- even from those at the highest levels of government.

Her husband, General Harry Nations Cordes, who possessed Top Secret/SCI clearance, was uniquely positioned to be "in the know" on such matters. Perhaps no other military man in history can lay claim to having been stationed at Roswell Army Air Field in July of 1947; later with Wright Patterson Air Force Base; to have worked at Area 51; been employed by the CIA; to have acted as Deputy Chief of Staff at Intelligence Headquarters for the Strategic Air Command (SAC) and still later to have led many intelligence functions at the Pentagon.

The Cordes story is a telling one- and leaves little doubt that what fell from the skies to the desert floor in New Mexico six decades ago was not from Earth.

The General
Harry Cordes graduated from Emory University in Atlanta, GA and received an MBA from the George Washington University in Washington, DC. Shortly after the outbreak of WWII, duty called and Harry enlisted in the Army Air Force, graduating first in his class at navigation school. There, his love of flying developed and he was accepted for flight training as a pilot. Spanning over four decades, Cordes' career involved him in many historical events. He flew over 25 types of different planes. He flew combat and reconnaissaince missions in Europe, the Pacific, and Vietnam. Gary Powers, who gained global attention during the height of the Cold War, served under Cordes.Cordes was a U-2 pilot and was the first human to fly in a space suit. Cordes saw action in the Bay of Pigs, the Cuban Missille Crisis and the A-Bomb tests at Bikini Atoll. He served at the highest level of decision-making for many of the nation's most confidential matters, including "Star Wars" - the Strategic Defense Initiative.

Time at Roswell
In 1947 Cordes was stationed at Roswell (RAAF) as a Radar Operator. It was there that he met he met Rogene, his future wife. Rogene's father's cattle and sheep ranch was adjacent to the Roswell crash site. It is Rogene Cordes with whom this author has had extensive dialogue over several months. It is Rogene Cordes -the General's widow- who felt compelled in the winter of her life to now tell all about what she and her husband knew about the Roswell crash and its history-making implications.

Their Roswell Story

Both Rogene and Harry were well aware of the crash of a "flying disk" at the time of its occurence in the summer of 1947. As Roswell residents at the time, they read the papers and they personally knew many of the involved principals. But it was not until the 1980s when the Roswell story was brought back into the public eye that they began to discuss the meaning of the event and the truth of what has crashed there. Rogene recounts that she knew her husband knew much about the incident. She too wanted to know what really had happened.

Rogene told me that she used every tool she could to get him to talk. This included what she called "beauty" and "pillow talk" to coax him to reveal more about what he knew about the crash. Harry told her that he was not physically at the base the week of the crash and that he was on travel during that time period. She hints that she did not believe that he told her all that he knew. When she pressed him further he told her, "many of the guys there knew what had really happened. But it was a matter of duty to country to never talk." Finally, after repeated attempts, Harry told her, "I was a radar operator at RAAF as you know. The object was flying and it was unidentified. The machine was tracked by White Sands radar and those folks didn't know what the hell was happening." She pressed further. She said, "Just tell me, was it a balloon?" Harry replied, "It was no balloon. Jesse Marcel told the truth. But if I tell you the details you will never view life the same." He beseeched her to ask no more. But she did. Harry blurted out, "Rogene, if I tell you...I will have to kill you." She thought he was joking. But Harry was not laughing.

Much later Rogene much decided to approach her by-then retired husband on the Roswell matter more assumptively. She asked him directly, "Where do they keep the craft honey, at Area 51?" She knew of course that he had worked at the Nevada Test Site for some time. He told her that it was not stored there. "Maybe at one time it was at Wright Patt, in off-limits area."

Still later Rogene brought up the issue with her husband, remembering that he was in the CIA at one time. She asked him, "What did you learn about the crash when you were at the CIA?" The last thing he would utter on the matter to her was, "When I went to work for the CIA one of the first things that I did was to look for the Roswell file. I know it exists, but it was missing. Either that or they were hiding it from me."

Rogene told me that "I know that he wondered his whole life why there was a coverup- why they would not tell the people."

Though Harry Cordes was sparse in details about Roswell, he would tell her more general stories about UFOs that were encountered during his time in service. He told his family (including both of his daughters) that at one time when he was flying at 70,000 feet (the highest anyone has ever flown up to that time) he had personally witnessed what he said, "could only have been an alien craft."

Rogene's Roswell Secrets
Rogene, born and raised outside Roswell, NM, grew up on a ranch. She was employed at a Roswell bank in the summer of 1947. Rogene knew many of the people in the community whose names today are well-known in relation to the Roswell crash.
She spoke cryptically of Butch Blanchard, who was Commander of RAAF at the time of crash, "Butch was a believer." She states that she knew he had told "all the guys involved at the base" (many of whom she and her husband entertained at their home with dinners, card games and BBQ's) to say nothing of the crash event. Whenever she brought up the subject with the "military fellows" she was met with stoney silence. She said to me, "Anyone who wanted to stay in the military simply didn't talk about it! It was their patriotic duty to not say much and to not ask too many questions." She also knew Blanchard's wife at the time, Ethel. She believes that Ethel was emotionally distressed over her husband Butch's involvement in the retrieval- and that it may well have contributed to their eventual divorce.

Rogene lived just a few doors down from Roswell Sheriff George Wilcox and his wife, Inez. Rogene even today does not like to talk about the Wilcox involvement, "George Wilcox and Inez were threatened and were afraid for their own reasons. They really did not want to ever discuss it, not even to talk about it with their friends. George changed after all of that."

Though Rogene is unsure about the totality of the truth of embalmer and undertaker Glenn Dennis' Roswell tales, she said that she went to high school with Glenn. She knew him to be "on the straight and narrow." But one story he told she knows was true. The day after the Roswell crash Rogene was trying to get ice for the soda and beer for the holiday weekend. She made the "usual rounds" for ice, including at Clardy's- the general store in town. She was told that Roswell base personnel had already been in and that "they cleared out all the ice, they bought it all." She then went to the train station, where dry ice could be purchased. To her amazement, she was told that the Roswell base personnel had already been there too and "had bought it all out." Rogene felt that the entire town had it's entire supply of ice and dry ice depleted. This had never happened before or since the crash weekend. Later, when Glenn told about the need for ice to help preserve the bodies from the crash, she "put two and two together."

Most interestingly, Rogene confirms that there were military cordons around surrounding ranch lands to the crash site. With her own eyes she saw "military men with guns at their sides" who would not let people pass. Their paths were diverted away from the area. Later she also overheard talk at the bank "from early-rising ranchers" about long trucks covered in canvas going to the base.

Finally, she explained that she knew Walter Haut well. Haut was the public information officer at the Roswell Army Air Field who issued the story of a "flying disk" that had fallen near Roswell. Rogene believed that the original story issued was the true story. The news story was recanted the following day. She said, "I know Walter finally confessed that it was not from Earth at the end of his life. Walter finally told the truth."

The woman from Roswell -the General's widow- had cleared her conscious. She concluded her conversations with me, "Harry died in 2004. He didn't want to say everything he could have. But I feel better telling what I know. People should know. And now they will. Roswell really happened."

"Chasing UFOs" and "Dirty Secrets" - The National Geographic Channel

(See the previous two postings for more on Chasing UFOs.)

The second episode of Chasing UFOs on the National Geographic Channel, "Dirty Secrets," was one of the most paranoid and absurd pieces of supposedly non-fiction TV that I have ever seen. Apparently the military has constructed an underground base just outside Fresno, CA (not recently, but about 60 years ago), and uses it to conduct secret research on alien technology, and perhaps the aliens themselves. And you thought that all secret UFO activity was in New Mexico or Nevada! The rich agricultural areas surrounding Fresno are probably home to more cows than people, and the generally flat terrain of the San Joaquin Valley is poorly-suited for hiding secret government stuff. But that hasn't stopped the area from becoming a local UFO Hotspot.

One woman identified only as "Sarah" and photographed only in shadows, says she has been followed and harassed since she began investigating local UFO activity. Justin and Eva Moncrief claim to have seen a UFO crash near their house, and saw a  caravan of trucks go to the crash site. Justin says he has been "followed," too. We are repeatedly shown a white van apparently slinking away when observed, it supposedly is the harassing vehicle. Later they photograph it so clearly that the license plate has to be blocked out while it is on screen. It would be trivially easy for any law enforcement agency to identify this vehicle and its owner, should any of those who claimed to be harassed actually file a complaint. I suspect that if that were done, we would find the van to be rented to Chasing UFOs' production crew, and its driver to be one of its employees, since he seems to always appear on cue. Ryder later says that she looked up the license plate, "but couldn't find anything conclusive here." What is that supposed to mean? Here is a clear example of how the UFO Chasers don't want to investigate and reach a conclusion. Instead, they leave the evidence they gather on the table, and walk away.

How to investigate the alleged UFO crash? It's time to stumble around in the dark some more, this time assisted by a FLIR mobile infrared unit. (According to the company website, this is a mobile "training unit" only.) The FLIR was used to look for warm spots in the area that might supposedly represent UFO debris. Or else outcroppings of bedrock. On go the prosthetic neck braces with lights and cameras, and off they go again, Blair Witch style, with metal detector and Geiger counter. Apparently they think it's easier to find UFO crash debris in the dark than in daylight. However, they soon spot a vehicle farther up the hill. Convinced they are being followed, Ryder decides they should "call it a night." "It wasn't worth taking any chances." There was no attempt to investigate the vehicle, or look for crash debris later, in daylight. This whole crash site investigation was staged for drama, not to seriously gather any information.

Next was a visit to UFOlogist Jeffrey Gonzales, who is the State Section Director for MUFON, a fact they don't mention. He, too, says he is being followed, and has surrounded his house with a multitude of security cameras. He might attract less attention if he didn't park his truck, covered with UFO emblems and murals, right in his driveway. Gonzales is convinced that there is an underground military base north of Fresno that studies alien technology, possibly just beyond the levees of the Fresno Metropolitan Flood Control District. "This levee sits up over the houses" - as indeed it must if it is to provide flood protection - "so it's a beautiful spot to hide something." The white van puts in another appearance.

So they decide it's Blair Witch time once again; they start out in daylight, but soon Ben and Ryder are rappelling down a canyon, in the dark with their "prosthetic" protrusions, to set up a camera on top the ridge on the other side. We never learn if the camera recorded anything. They later rendezvous on a bridge over the canyon, which I assume could have been crossed earlier to eliminate the need for rock climbing in the dark.

Meanwhile James and Jeff, also stumbling in the dark in their prosthetics, appear to be trespassing by climbing over a tall fence, which has a sign that cannot be read, because it has been blanked out. It probably says something like "No Trespassing, Property of Fresno Flood Control District." There they enter an impressively large tunnel, but sealed off and leading nowhere. "We found evidence of an underground facility!" It was later acknowledged that the tunnel was constructed as part of a hydroelectric project. "But they could also be used to access underground bases," according to Ryder.

Next is a visit with Manuel Amparano, who claimed to have a Close Encounter with a UFO on May 13, 1978 when he was a police officer. Tim Printy points out that there is a discussion of the Amparano sighting in  his SUNlite Webzine (Vol. 2, No. 4, p. 9). It occurred within two minutes of a known rocket launch from Vandenberg Air Force Base, a launch visible for hundreds of miles. I'm practically certain that's what Amparano saw; he said the object was "rising." He claims to have been "sunburned" by it, but of course it's perfectly possible he was sunburned in the normal manner the previous day, and attributed it to the "UFO." The UFO Chasers borrow for investigation the flashlight and jacket Amparano had on that night. They tested them, and found nothing unusual. James Fox proclaims Amparano's testimony to be "bulletproof." Nobody's testimony rises to that level.

The program reaches the utter heights of absurdity when, because one couple got a blurry photo of a "UFO" near the airport, the UFO Chasers decide that their next episode of stumbling in the dark should take place in the vicinity of the Fresno Airport. (One anonymous commenter identified this location as 3770 North Pierce Avenue, Fresno, CA; put that address into Street View of Google Maps, and you'll see that's probably correct.)  Ryder walks right up to the airport perimeter fence wearing her ungainly prosthetics, and at one point actually begins to climb the fence!  Here is the clearest proof that we are seeing staged incidents, and not actual investigations. Can you imagine the call from an airport security guard to headquarters? "Boss, there's a woman wearing these strange protrusions with cameras and lights, and she's trying to climb the perimeter fence!" In the real world, she would have immediately been arrested for trespassing, then interrogated for days to uncover any links to terrorist organizations. But in the TV Fantasy world of UFO Chasers, the guard shines a flashlight in her direction, a military helicopter takes off and circles her position, then she rejoins the others who hide under a tree, and the authorities lose all interest in finding out who was trying to penetrate their perimeter.

I don't know whether I'll be reviewing future episodes of Chasing UFOs. We have seen enough in these first two episodes to know exactly what kind of show this is. There is a lot of "data gathering" (more precisely, getting observers to tell their stories), but no serious effort to follow up, investigate, and come to a definite conclusion. It's all Wow, Gee Whiz, What an Amazing Story!. But don't actually look for answers - that isn't fun! Plus, the "investigations" we are shown are obviously staged for dramatic purposes, and are not actual efforts to gather information and solve mysteries. The National Geographic Channel may think it has plausible deniability for the contents of this show, since it was produced by Ping Pong Productions for NGC. But it's being sold under the National Geographic's brand, and it's dragging that once-proud brand through the mud.

Iran Threatens to Block Strait of Hormuz Once Again

One day after the US and the European Union imposed a new round of severe sanctions on their oil exports; Iranian authorities addressed ultimatums to Gulf States and Western Powers. The Iranian Islamic Government needs to make some response to the sanctions to remain in power. The first ultimatum came in the form of an announcement by a member of the national security and foreign politics committee in the Iranian parliament: the committee has proposed a bill that urges Tehran to attempt to deny crude oil shipments passage through the Strait of Hormuz on their way to countries supporting the sanctions.

The second came in the form of military maneuvers that simulate a counter-attack against US or Israeli targets in the region.

Western sanctions against Iranian exports could cause a state of economic paralysis in the Islamic Republic and direct a hard blow at the Iranian authorities."

Blocking the Hormuz strait to 18 million barrels of exports from the Gulf would be equivalent to a declaration of war. Western countries with fleets, aircraft carriers and naval bases in Qatar and Bahrain will fight to prevent the closing of the Strait. The USS Ponce has just arrived in the waters off of Bahrain, with mine sweeping helicopters on board. Four other mine sweepers have moved into the area.

The threat could lift oil prices to $200 a barrel, damaging faltering western economies.

While closing the Strait may be possible for Iran for a short period of time, the U.S. military would prevail in a conflict with Iran in order to re-open the Strait at a great cost to the Iranian armed forces," Iran in recent years has acquired "thousands of sea mines, wake homing torpedoes, hundreds of advanced cruise missiles and possibly more than one thousand small Fast Attack Craft and Fast Inshore Attack Craft," U.S. Navy Commander Daniel Dolan wrote.

Blocking the strait that in places is only two miles wide would likely create a shooting war between Iranian and mainly US Naval forces. Two US naval task forces are in the vicinity and USAF fighters have been beefed up in the region. Western forces may choose to attack Iranian nuclear facilities during any conflict.

Iranian ultimatums are psychological warfare tactics, although Iran is vulnerable to bombing of key facilities, a ground war is not in the interest of either side. US carriers are vulnerable operating in confined areas. The Islamic Republic could launch surprise attacks depending on Allah to defeat western forces.

"The Iranians likely consider the sanctions on exports as a declaration of war designed to drive the Iranian people to the brink of starvation in the hope that they will rise up against the government. Iranians launched attacks against mock enemy bases located in desert areas similar to where U.S. forces are located in Kuwait and US Fifth Fleet are in Bahrain. Reports from Irans Islamic Republic News Agency alluded to diplomatic conflict between the United States and Iran.

In any case, the US and its allies aren't expected to wait around for another dozen years for the embargo to yield results in Iran. Western reports confirm that Iran does indeed possess large quantities of enriched uranium, enough to build nuclear warheads within one year. No one wants war. Nonetheless, once cornered, Iran could counter-attack the US warships in Gulf waters.

It seems the West is pushing Iran into firing the first shot in a war.

"The next four months before the US elections promise an escalation in mutual verbal attacks between Iran and the west, until one of the parties decides to open hostilities." The threat of hostilities will likely raise oil and gasoline prices.

Russia and China appear to be supporting Iran and Syria no matter how cruelly the Syrian regime behaves, or what the blocking of the Straights can cost. International law fails to face the Russians and stem the bloodletting in Syria. The situation in the Middle East is heating up and nationwide fighting could easily occur. Our sun is heating up creating a situation where unusually hot temperatures may create the psychological situation for war.

NATO Stands with Turkey

NATO on June 26 condemned Syria's shoot down of a Turkish RF-4 reconnaissance aircraft several days prior and stressed its solidarity with Turkey, one of the alliance's 28 members. But the alliance stopped short of threatening Syria with military action, with members declaring instead that they would "follow the situation closely and with great concern," according to a NATO release. "We consider this act to be unacceptable and condemn it in the strongest terms," stated NATO General Secretary Anders Fogh

Rasmussen, following the meeting of the North Atlantic Council, the alliance's ambassadors, to discuss the shoot down at Turkey's request. Rassmussen added, "Let me make this clear. The security of the alliance is indivisible. We stand together with Turkey in the spirit of strong solidarity." State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said on June 26 the United States would "continue to stay in close touch with Turkey about its security concerns."Turkey claims that Syrian air defenses, in a deliberate and hostile act, downed the RF-4 in international waters on June 22 after the aircraft had inadvertently entered Syrian airspace for a brief time, reported Associated Press on June 26 (via The Oklahoman). Do Huge Fires Suggest Terrorism

Forest fires are causing destruction in some twenty states mostly in the Western US burning thousands of acres and hundreds of homes. A single terrorist could drive around starting these fires creating great harm to the United States and its citizens.

Frequent Reports of "Fireballs" Continue, Seemingly Unabated

Peter Davenport the Director of the National UFO Reporting Center reports that sightings of peculiar luminous bodies have continued for several weeks. We do not know what the objects are, and the witnesses who have reported them seem as mystified by them as we at NUFORC are.

If you see a display of red, orange, yellow, or amber lights in the night sky, there are a few things we would like the witnesses to do, in order to preserve the data surrounding the sighting. First, we would like each witness to compose a short, written statement about the sighting, describing what was seen, and what happened. We would like to know where the witnesses were located, what direction they estimate they were looking, that angle of elevation above the horizontal plane, how many objects were seen, how big they looked to be (relative to a star or planet in the night sky), and how the objects moved across the sky in front of the witness, e.g. left to right, right to left, straight down, etc..

Also, we would like the witnesses to telephone their local National Weather Service office, or the nearest FAA Flight Service Station, to determine what the direction and velocity of the local winds were, at the time of the sighting, and include that information in their report. That information about the prevailing winds will allow us to determine whether the objects observed were moving in the same direction as the wind, or whether they were moving in a direction different from that of the wind, and therefore were self-propelled. California Ball and Triangle

Oakdale -- I had spent the day with my niece at her home on Saturday, June 2nd, 2012. There was a lot of spraying being done by planes so I had been looking up at the sky all that afternoon and taking photos. I noticed the white clouds just hanging around and I decided to take some photos. After taking the picture I immediately went to my photo file on my cell phone to see how the photo turned out. When looking at the photo we both said: "What the heck is that!" I immediately took another photo of the same spot in the sky and looked at the photo. Nothing was there. We thought lets put some mascara on the cell phone lens that just left a smudge.

When I enlarge the photo on my cell phone, you can see some wave like gas vapors around the object.

Note: The witness is to be commended for trying the "mascara experiment." Clearly the witness took a photo of a round object. Analysis indicates that the photo has not been tampered with and the subsequent photos do not show the object. What could this object be? Colorado Balls of Fire Ground Aircraft

Pike National Forest A possible meteor grounded planes fighting the Springer fire in Colorado near Lake George according to spokespeople for the fire-fighting team. A Pueblo air-dispatch center began receiving reports of "balls of fire or something in the air" this afternoon, and officials grounded flights to make sure no aircraft were hit, fire team spokesman Ron Roth said. Planes were allowed to resume flights about 90 minutes later.

"We dont have to determine what it is, just that its safe to fly at this point," he said.

The North American Aerospace Defense Command based at Peterson Air Force Base in El Paso County doesnt think whatever fell was man-made.

"We have no indication anything manmade entered that area." said NORAD spokesman John Cornelia, adding, "We have no information as to what this might have been."

The incident near the fire was first reported near Badger Mountain, a Badger Mountain, Colorado 11,294-foot peak in Park County along U.S. 24, about 40 miles west of Colorado Springs on June 20, 2012.

Ron Davis, who lives part-time in Lake City, said by e-mail that he was hiking on Redcloud Peak in Hinsdale County when he saw what he thought was silvery "space junk" burning across the eastern sky, traveling from north to south with a white tail. He had just turned off his iPhone and few minutes before and couldnt snap a picture or video, he said.

"It was an amazing sight," he said of the spectacle that last two to three seconds before it disappeared close to Earth.

Chris Peterson, a research associate at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, said today was not a "shower" but a single meteor.

"It was unusual because meteors are seldom bright enough to be noticed during the day, although they occur as often in the day as at night," he said in an e-mail.

The museum operates meteor cameras across the state, but they are turned off during the day.

"All the information we currently have is from witness reports," he said. He said he had received more than a dozen reports, from as far northeast as Limon.

If any meteorites were produced, they would have fallen in northeast Colorado, Peterson said.

Almost 400 firefighters are battling the Springer fire, currently at, 1,145 acres and 23 percent contained. The U.S. Forest Service reported the fire started Sunday is being fought by five helicopters, with two heavy air tankers and three single-engine air tankers "available as needed."

Florida Triangles

Pensacola BEACH On May 24, 2012 about 9 PM, we were on the beach at the entrance to Ft. Pickens when we noticed a bright object that suddenly appeared in the sky to the north of Gulf Breeze, FL. The object bobbed around for a few minutes and began to descend. The light patterns did not match conventional aircraft running lights and were stunningly bright. At first we thought it may be a plane coming into to land at the airport, but it would descend, ascend, and then descend again, sometimes winking out and then reappearing a few degrees higher. After a while we became curious and chased the object down for several miles, driving back into town to an area referred to as "East Hill". When we finally got close enough to it to see what it was about 200 feet away we made out a distinct triangular outline with 3 lights on each corner. At three miles distance the object appears as a glowing golden disk. My friends in a second car closer to the object stated it made no noise and "glided" over the treetops. After a while it hovered out of our line of sight over the treetops.

Nine days later on June 2, 2012, a similar object was sighted and photographed by two different people around 9 PM. One photo was taken by each person with a gap of ten minutes between each sighting. A third and fourth witness whom we met later that night described a similar object that resembled a triangular pattern of lights confirming the earlier sighting. This photo was taken by other witnesses.

Peoria -- About 9:20 pm on June 17, 2012, my daughter and I were driving home after getting off work. As we got half way down our street we noticed a low flying object just above tree tops with 8-10 bright, white lights and one red light on the end. The object looked triangular. There was no sound. As we pulled into the driveway we stopped to watch it just above the tree line. The object turned "on a dime" and at a high rate of speed took off in a different direction and disappeared. Michigan Two Suns

Mattawan -- My mom and I were driving west on I-94 when it looked like there were two suns in the sky. One sun, the real sun was bigger, but there was a smaller one just as bright off to the left. Mississippi Light

MONTGOMERY -- I was outside on my back patio on June 26 2012, at 9:30 PM, and I was using my digital night vision monocular.

I like to observe the wonders of the universe and heard the roar of a fighter jet. I am scanning trying to find the fighter jet from our nearby base when I saw a very bright moving star. I grabbed my Droid and shot six pictures at 4X zoom with the digital night vision device. I watched in awe as this huge white "thing" flew across the sky. Missouri Triangle

Independence I am the Assistant State Director for MUFON Missouri, and on July 1, 2012, I had this sighting with 17 friends and family while we were at a birthday party for my granddaughter. I was looking at the moon when I noticed an object moving northwest. I saw the triangle shape and three very bright white lights pointing downward, and one red light in the center which was flashing sequentially, it made no sound and flying at 500 feet and under a mile due to the size of it. It would take a golf ball or larger to cover it up at arms length.

After a minute, the front light on the point of the triangle went out for a few seconds then back on, and the other lights all started flashing randomly, which was completely out of the ordinary for any commercial or military craft. Thanks to MUFON CMS

New Jersey Looked On Fire!

PRINCETON JUNCTION On June30, 2012, my girlfriend pointed out what looked like a fast moving fireball traveling northeast at 11:30 PM. We followed it and it seemingly "burned out" and disappeared less than a minute later, Another fireball came from the same area as the first again burning out where the first one had. New York Light

MELVILLE

MY sister and I were driving when in front of us in the sky I saw a bright light, sort of like a search light but just pointing forwards on June 24, 2012. As we drove closer, we could see an aircraft with a smaller red light on one side and a bluish-white light on the other. At first it seemed as though this was a plane with wings, but it was not moving. It was hovering.

It was hard to tell whether the two smaller lights were attached to wings but it looked like a disc, with the two lights on either end and the one bright light in the center. It made no sound. Ohio Lights and Disk

Hudson -- Myself and a friend were driving from Twinsburg at 10:30 PM, on June 27, 2012, heading south on State Route 91. As we approached Hudson we noticed eight red lights in a formation. We pulled off the road and took pictures as the lights went out one by one. The last light to go off went off then flickered on again so I took more photo time lapse shots. RICHMOND HEIGHTS -- I was standing on my balcony at about 10:20 pm, when I saw a bright light moving slowly on June 17, 2012. It started moving faster until I couldnt see it. South Carolina Cylinder

I took several quick order photos of my car at a scenic location on May 15, 2012. The first two photos were nearly identical and no more than a second apart. I did not notice anything but weeks later when enhancing the photos I noticed something above the mountain. One had a small horizontal cloud hanging parallel to the mountain top; a second later it was gone. When zoomed it appears as a cigar shaped object. The camera was a Nikon D90 digital. Texas Oval Shaped Craft

Cedar Park On June 27, 2012, at 9 PM, I was out in my backyard and saw slow 40 MPH moving object. I got out my phone, but it was dead. Albury -- Peter Maxwell Slattery says, "I've spotted UFOs many times near my home in Albury and I was coming back from the supermarket, when right in front of me was a very bright phosphorescent electric green fireball."

It was flying parallel to the ground at about 60 meters (150-200 feet). The white ball was about 10 meters or 30 feet in circumference, and green on the sides, and it had a small tail. I saw it in January 2005 and 2009. I saw it again, it was blue. This one I saw in Hato El Cedral, a wildlife refuge in the South-west of Venezuela.

Scarborough -- I thought to share a strange image taken June 20, 2012 at 10:04 AM. While at work there were some bright white flashes in the west like a cameras flash, so I took some pictures. After reviewing the pictures I found a dark long streamline hydro line. My friend George agrees it is not an insect, but something in the distance.

Note: This isnt just an anomaly discovered in a photo. The witness saw something unusual and this object showed up in the picture. The exposure time was only 1/160 second. Given this fact the "insect explanation" is not likely. Thanks to William Puckett, Director http://www.UFOsnw.com

United Kingdom Flying Object

BOSTON -- It first started on the 27th of July, when I happened to look out of my bedroom window at 11:10 pm, because I am interested in UFO activity. I spotted one with a hint of blue with my telescope and focused in on blue, red, white green all sorts of colors in the distance. I couldn't make out a shape, just extremely bright lights that I watched for an hour. It seemed to move slowly to the right then up down.

The following night it was very cloudy but at about 12 am there was a break in the cloud and it was in the exact same place! I watched for only a minute and it appeared out of nowhere looking bigger than the previous nights. My partner and I looked through my telescope but I still couldn't make out a shape. And then last night at around 11 pm, it was much closer again. Thanks to MUFON CMS

If you are getting more sighting reports than listed here, please be sure to enter them manually into CMS. To make this happen automatically, make sure your local MUFON Website is pointing to the CMS Reporting form on www.mufon.com and direct all calls you get to the MUFON website so that witnesses can enter their own report directly into CMS.

ALL sighting reports received by CMS are already filled in by the witness, saving you and your investigators time. Each report is automatically sent to YOU, the State Director and Assistant State Director, for you to assign someone to follow-up and complete the report.

If a UFO sighting comes in over the phone, or by e-mail, and you want to enter it yourself, simply go to CMS at http://mufoncms.com (once logged in) and click on "ADD CASE" in the upper right hand corner of the screen. This gives you a blank sighting reporting form that you can fill out while the witness is on the phone. A third of Earthlings believe in UFOs, would befriend aliens

That's the word from a new National Geographic Channel study finding that 80 million Americans are certain UFOs exist and that one in 10 believe they've spotted one.

"We wanted the pulse on people's opinions," says Brad Dancer, senior vice president of research and digital media for National Geographic. "We wanted to get a sense of how Americans view UFOs, what people believe and how mainstream pop culture may or may not be playing into their opinions on it."

The results are in: Seventeen percent of Americans don't believe UFOs exist, 36% think they do, and 48% aren't sure.

The survey was commissioned for National Geographic Channel's series Chasing UFOs, premiering Friday at 9 p.m. ET.

About 79% of those surveyed think the government has kept information about UFOs a secret from the public, and 55% believe there are real-life Men in Black-style agents who threaten people who spot UFOs.

So what if they stopped by? The survey shows:

•22% would try to befriend the alien, 15% would run away, 13% would lock their doors, and only 2% would try to inflict bodily harm.

•If angry aliens did attack Earth, 21% would call the Hulk in to deal with it, 12% would call Batman, and 8% would call Spider-Man.

•Nearly 65% think Barack Obama would be better suited than Mitt Romney to handle an alien invasion.

Extraterrestrial beings could not be reached for comment.
