Exploring The Myth of The Men In Black

This section explores the myth of the MIB(Men In Black). It is mainly based on my MIB research regarding incidents after 1976 in England.

Part 1: The making of the myth

Many seem to feel it was divisions of the USAF that created the MIB myth, but this could not be further from the truth. There is strong evidence to suggest that MIB have been co-existing with us, since we care to remember and this leads one to ask why there was ever such a need. The actual basis of their origin lies deep within the recesses of the UFO witness, as research suggests that MIB normally make an appearance after somebody has witnessed a UFO. This has often led me to believe whether the ability to see a UFO, brings out the MIB from their hiding, forced to contemplate the inevitable that their hidden origin will be revealed one day. However this is even harder to believe when faced with the MIB themselves; a shocking confrontation whereby the witness is unsure of how to act, due to the weirdness being exhibited by the strange guests. The actual name Men in black is misleading, as there have been sightings reported to me of Females in black; this may lead one to think that maybe they do possess some Alien origin, capable of taking on any form they like.

I tend to back away from the alien hypothesis mainly due to my consistent analysis of English cases pre 1976, which tend to emphasis a more direct link with military, normally RAF or MoD. Looking at American reports seem to emphasise a more alien account, and it is here when the issue becomes confusing. It would surely be a lot easier for the government to make use of the MIB, instead of spending copious amounts of time and money necessary for carrying out such widespread operations against people seeing lights in the sky. However there is clear evidence, which will be discussed later on, in which witnesses to UFO’s or even top secret government projects have been severely harassed. Much has been born out of this myth, and I feel that around the 1960′s, the US government was able to use some of the personnel from the Air Force Special Activities Centre(AFSAC), and ‘disguise’ them as MIB. Even Mothman(see The Mothman Prophecies by John A. Keel) was part of the MIB myth, and thus their identity becomes ever more tightly kept due to the natural progression that we do nothing to halt proceedings; MIB are natural to human folklore.

Part 2: Common characteristics of the modern day MIB

While most MIB reports tend to highlight the fact that MIB may be of some oriental origin, the detraction is made through the association that MIB always come in threes. Is this irrelevant? Why? Maybe due to the fact that transmogrification takes place, and size/quantity/appearance is irrelevant, in that what you see is what you get, but not necessarily what you want! The classic conception of an MIB is a man of indefinite age, medium height and dressed completely in black. He always has a black hat and often a black turtleneck sweater. They present an appearance often described as “strange” or “odd”. They speak in a dull monotone voice, “like a computer”, and are dark; complete with high cheekbones, thin lips, pointed chin, and eyes that tend to look oriental like. Often when quizzed as to who they are, they say they are salesman, telephone repairman(even though your phone is not broken) or representatives from official(ie RAF) groups or an unofficial UFO group. Their mode of transport differs whether you are in America or England. In America they are often seen driving Buicks or Lincolns(black); it seems to be only the films that portray the MIB using black cadillacs. In England, the cars are normally Jaguars. It is also important to state that not all reports of MIB are that describing a meeting with men of oriental features; some have included men with very Aryan features, with distinguishing blond hair.

A classic MIB case could be highlighted by the 1978 West Kirby case in Liverpool, England. Here the witness JW has described the classic features of the MIB, and seems to suggest some ulterior motive as to why they came in the first place. It seems usual; JW had seen a UFO, and was shortly visited by two men in black (more men were seen sitting in the car), one of which confronted JW, a teenager at the time. “You’d better run on home” said one of the men. The other man who was with our witness said “It’s alright he is with me”, and they both then walked away from the men in vehicles. Our witness described the man who got out of the car as dressed in dark blue or black, and stranger still, he appeared to be wearing makeup in the form of lip foundation. This has occurred before(lipstick on MIB), but mainly in American reports(e.g. 1976 Maine). If this was not strange enough JW has no memory of the man’s lips moving as he was talking. The descriptions that he gives is remarkably similar to other accounts since the 1950′s of the men in black. The MIB’s are renowned for visiting UFO witnesses and are often keen in trying to encourage the witness to say nothing of their account. Also many MIB reports state that the men were wearing large hats(often too big for them), however the 1978 West Kirby MIB, had no such headgear.

A case that has come of light fairly recently, is that of William Shearer, whose case is being thoroughly investigated by Ufology and Supernatural Studies(01206 286543-Paul Joslin), led by Barbara Fennell and Paul Southcott. On Monday 19th January 1997(4 days after his UFO incident in Essex) Shearer had returned from work and gone to bed as usual. His wife and daughter had popped out, so he had the house to himself. Unable to settle, he came downstairs for a drink, and thought he heard a faint knock at the door. Sure enough, as Shearer approached the door he could see the outline of a tall man through the glass. Shearer opened the door and was faced with a strange sight. The man was around 6’4″, and dressed in a dark grey suit and full length coat. He wore a brilliant white shirt(many other reports have suggested that MIB wear a ‘new’ type of fabric) and a red tie, and was holding a brimmed hat. Another similarly dressed man was standing behind Shearers’ wife’s car, and appeared to be looking up and down the road, as if to see if anyone was coming. The first man said “Can I speak to you please?” His voice was very deep, and seemed to Shearer to be coming from his chest rather than his mouth. At this stage, the man’s gaze was lowered to the floor so Shearer could not see his face. Shearer assumed the men were Jehovah’s Witnesses and replied “No, I’m not dressed”. The man persisted, and asked again to speak to Shearer, who again declined and asked him to come back later. When the man lifted his head and looked straight at Shearer his first impression was that the man was very ill, as he looked deathly pale. In contrast, the stranger’s lips seemed to be tinged red, as if he were wearing lipstick (how can they get it so wrong for so long??). Again the man spoke, this time asking to come in. Shearer stood his ground. After to looking at the second man, the first finally relented and said okay, they would be back later. On reflection, Shearer states that it was “almost as if the two men were talking to each other, but I couldn’t hear them” as the second man kept looking at the first and either nodding or gesturing in some way. The men walked towards their car – which was black and according to Shearer “like something straight out of a gangster movie, yet it looked brand new”.

Throughout many of the MIB reports I have studied many MIB car number plates are never traceable, and many never existed in the first place – what are the chances of making up a number plate and it being the only one in existence? Shearer also noticed that the men walked awkwardly, as if they were suffering from arthiritis. Shearer was only convinced that these men were the infamous MIB when told by Paul Southcott of USS, until which time he was adamant that they were religious types. On 12th February, Shearer received another visit, this time while he was at work. He got to meet with the MIB at 1:15 am when he heard a knock on the door. The MIB were slightly smaller than the one he had spoken to before, and Shearer immediately knew it was the one standing by his wife’s car on their previous visit. Again he was dressed in the dark suit and coat and wore a hat. This time the MIB asked to speak to Shearer by name, and specified that they wanted to talk to him about his UFO sighting, giving exact date and times. Shearer was baffled as to where he had got this information, but refused to let him in. Shearer asked for the mans name and ID, but the MIB ignored him and repeatedly asked to come in. Shearer states that it was almost as if the MIB could only utter a selection of set phrases, since he kept repeating the same questions over and over again, ignoring Shearer’s own questions. On this occasion, Shearer was able to get a closer look at the MIB’s face, and realised he had no facial hair at all – no eyebrows, eyelashes, or signs of stubble. The visit lasted for about two minutes, and then the office phone rang. Shearer turned to pick up the phone to hold, and turned back, the MIB was gone

Since the night of Shearer’s sighting, all the video equipment in his office building has been malfunctioning for no apparent reason. Since the MIB visits, Shearer has had problems with his phone lines(very very common in reports both in America and England). Clicking sounds can be heard on calls he receives after 4pm, and on many occasions he will pick up the phone only to find out there is no-one at the other end. British Telecom are at a loss, so they say. On the 26th March 1997, Shearer’s phone, was completely out of order. No other lines in the area were affected. At the time of writing, he is still waiting for an explanation from BT.

Part 3: MIB & Black helicopters

Occasion permits oneself to see some sort of connection between the Men In Black and these mysterious black helicopters that seem to be plaguing our skies, but it is far more complex than the colour match! If we are to presume an existence that is ‘alien’ to us but having a connection with earth far greater than we could imagine, we start to understand a little of the origin of what I like to refer to as the “original MIB”. The same sort of theories are being attached to reasons behind the appearance of unmarked dull grey/green/black helicopters, mysteriously hovering over people’s back gardens. A number of reports state that witnesses who have caught a glimpse of the pilots of these strange craft are that of oriental origin, and thus a familiar pattern starts to build up. But this shows now direct correlation, until we look at the behaviour and timing of the black helicopter sightings.

We know that MIB are notorious for making an appearance after someone believes they have seen a UFO, and it is from this we can understand a little behind this timing of events and the occurrence of the black helicopters – the majority of mysterious helicopter sightings suggest that the primary witness has seen a UFO, but what must be determined is how ‘knowledge’ of these facts are ‘leaked’ out. The co-existence theory explains a little as to how the MIB can be so knowledgeable about a primary witness(for example, MIB have been known to recall memories that only the witness would have known), but this is where a sharp dividing line is drawn when looking for similarities between the MIB and black helicopter sightings. What has been seen is some form of remote viewing being associated with the helicopters gaining ‘special’ information; more precisely this can be broken down when hearing witnesses explaining seeing one of these helicopters while at the same time having files downloaded from her computer. Is there a connection, and if so how can this be determined? What is more pleasing to the researcher is the fact that we see some need being built up between the two ‘organisations’ if you like, to gain this special information and it is this that ties the two phenomena together. It is receipt of this knowledge that enables the MIB to gain such a superior advantage over their human counterparts. Without the ability to ‘co-exist’ and being able to listen but be seen only when it suits them, the MIB would not be associated with UFO phenomena to such a large extent. It is in essence the very basis of their unknown quantity that allows them to stay as outsiders, but involved in everything we do. One must stop short of trying to empathise with something that will never be fully understood and perhaps try to concentrate on the knowledge we do have about the MIB.

Date: May 13 1954 Time: 2230
On May 12 1954 at approximately 2000 Chief Petty Officer H. R. Penrose visited a public house in Derbyshire where he met a man with whom he got into conversation about his motorcar, a black Vauxhall Wyvern saloon which was about a year old. The man said he would like to buy it and made a very reasonable offer. Cdr. Penrose was undecided, however, and said he would think the thing over before meeting him in the same public house the following evening.
Meeting as arranged the next evening, he told his acquaintance that he was still undecided, whereupon he was invited to the man’s house for tea. When they got there they found a sit-down meal prepared for them by the man’s wife. Cdr. Penrose remembers thinking they were an ordinary English couple, although a little smaller than average. After chatting awhile he told his hosts that he had decided against selling the car, and he then took his leave at about 2230.
His journey home took him along the main Derby-Burton Road, in the direction of Birmingham. Suddenly, he said, a bright light appeared, heading towards him. He describes what followed:
“As it reached my position I experienced what seemed to be a crash and I was thrown forward against the windscreen. Then the car seemed to be lifted from the ground and I was moving through the air with a bright light above me. The next thing I remember was when I recovered consciousness in the Derbyshire Royal Infirmary where I had had stitches in a cut in my forehead.”
The commander went on: “I remembered a strange occurrence which must have taken place immediately after my crash. At that moment the car was perched on some iron railings, and I recollect being lifted from it by a man in a one-piece suit. He seemed to lift me effortlessly into an entrance on the underside of a large round vehicle which was hovering above us and giving out a bright light.”
Cdr. Penrose says he was taken into a room which had controls in it and other, similarly dressed “men” were operating these. These were male and female beings—distinguishable by their shapes—who had similar short hair styles, and whose facial expressions “did not appear unusual.” The witness says he was asked questions about his naval experiences and his work with radar, while he countered with questions about their vehicle and its associated engineering. He also suggests that the method of communication between them was of a “telepathic nature,” and adds that when he attempted some hypnotic regression, to which they seemed to ‘become very confused’ a woman injected some green fluid into his arm after which he remembered no more. When questioned by police officers after the accident Cdr. Penrose says he was aware that a passing RAC driver had found him concussed, sitting in the driving seat of his car, perched on railings by the entrance of the Hilton Gravel Works. After his discharge from the hospital, and puzzled by the event, he returned to the scene of the accident hoping to trace witnesses. His only success in this respect was to find a railway signalman who said he’d seen the car, with an extremely bright light above it, go past his signal box, and at about the same level.
It was also learned that he was kept in hospital for “some months” following the incident, his injuries being cuts on the top of his head and about the face. He also suffered some loss of memory. After leaving the hospital he took one of the nurses out socially as a gesture of thanks for looking after him. He discovered from her that a senior police officer had attempted to interview him while he was in hospital, but was refused permission to do so by the doctors. He learned too that the police interest arose from the abnormally large amount of blood in the vehicle. This, it seems, was far more than could have been expected from the type of injuries sustained by Commander Penrose, and it was thought that another person may have been in the car. However Penrose was adamant that he was alone in the car.

C'est vrai qu'il y a peu de nouvelles importantes actuellement, à part les déclarations sensationnelles du Canadien Paul Hellyer, cent fois répétées, et probable désinfo amplifiante, mais on continue à enregistrer pas mal d'observations à travers le monde. Récemment, l'Américain Peter Davenport, qui continue à recueillir ces observations tous les jours, a signalé une forte augmentation en janvier, de l'ordre de 600 cas au lieu de 2 à 300 habituellement. On peut s'en faire une idée, par exemple, en lisant le bulletion du Major Filer "Filer's File" , publié tous les huit à dix jours. On peut le recevoir gratuitement sur internet. 

Une nouvelle quand même, pour la francophonie : le livre de Leslie Kean "OVNIS. Des généraux, des pilotes et des officiels parlent" est enfin paru en librairie. Voici quelques citations, reprises de la 4ème de couverture et de ma traduction pour ma conférence de la semaine dernière à Paris. Notamment cinq généraux d'aviation, affirmant non seulement la réalité de ovnis mais favorables, peu ou prou, à l'hypothèse extraterrestre. 

Cela va-t-il susciter un petit buzz médiatique ? J'ai bien peur que non, vu l'ambiance actuelle de scepticisme et de ricanements tous azimuths.Bof ! Rigolons plutôt en écoutant grand journal de Canal Plus. Mais c'est pourtant cette chaîne qui a fait un bon reportage (qui repassait encore samedi dernier sur la petite chaîne Numéro 23 : "Ovnis Quand l'armée enquête"). Donc ce n'est pas "joué" dans les médias.

 Aujourd’hui, Symington tend à être d’accord avec Barry Goldwater que notre gouvernement retient de l’information secrète sur les ovnis. « Si nous avions mis la main sur un véhicule spatial très avancé avant qui que ce soit d’autre, vous pouvez être certain que nous le garderions jalousement et travaillerions dessus, et que nous serions intéressés par cette technologie avancée. C’est une idée aussi valide qu’une autre pour expliquer pourquoi cela resterait secret, » dit-il.

Military Chasing UFOs? Witnesses In Two States File Reports

Witnesses in Missouri and California reporting separate events on February 11, 2014, both describe helicopters chasing UFOs, according to testimony today in cases 54029 and 54034 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

A Missouri witness in Lone Jack was watching television at 6:01 p.m. Central Time, February 11, 2014, when the sound of a “loud helicopter thundering” overhead was heard. He immediately moved to a window facing south and looked outside.

“I saw a black military attack helicopter hauling ass just over my house at or below 300 feet from my roof top,” the witness stated.

But then the witness noticed a second object in the sky.

“It was going east to west and then immediately turned south towards a thin, dark gray, disk object that had a white light modulating from it. The disk appeared less than a mile away heading north when it was as if the helicopter spooked it and it simply made an abrupt left turn heading northwest at an amazing speed towards Kansas City, Missouri.”

The witness observed that the military helicopter was not able to catch up to the disc-shaped object.

"With the black military attack helicopter turning very hard 'almost vertical' around heading northwest in pursuit of it - whatever the object was - it definitely had the ability to out run the military helicopter and disappeared from sight."

Then two hours and 24 minutes later - in Anaheim, California - a witness was inside at a computer at 6:25 p.m. Pacific Time on February 11, 2014, when the sound of a loud helicopter was heard. The witness ran outside to a backyard facing west.

"I saw that the ground in the backyard was lit up pretty good," the witness stated. "I say 'lit up' because it was dark out and we have a patio cover so the sky is somewhat blocked."

But the witness was surprised to see two objects moving overhead.

"As I went out the sliding back door to my right I immediately saw an orb-like, star-shining object that was being chased by a helicopter."

The witness watched the scene.

"The helicopter did have its search light on so I'm guessing that's what the light was. So when I looked up I didn't even see the helicopter at first - all I saw was a bright white orb and then the helicopter. That's how low the two were. I viewed the helicopter chasing the orb (orb made no noise) from the west going toward the east."

The witness was fascinated with the objects.

"I was in awe on just how low these two were in the sky and on how the orb was just so bold and solid and brilliant. It was like a star passing by right in front of me. The helicopter had its blinking red and white lights on with the search light, but when the helicopter shined the light on the orb, it kept going out, or so it seemed."

The witness watched both objects move off into the distance.

"I viewed these two flying toward the east, way off into the distance, and kept viewing for as long as I could when the orb suddenly disappeared for 2 to 4 seconds and then reappeared for another 20 seconds and then disappeared again."

MUFON receives reports every year from around the country where a military jet or helicopter appears to be following or chasing a UFO.

"These types of incidents are certainly something we watch for," said MUFON Executive Director Jan C. Harzan, reached today at his Newport Beach, CA, headquarters office. "Some of the more important historical UFO events include a military presence. And in a small number of cases nationally, we do have reports where a witness will encounter a UFO and then see what appears to be a military jet or helicopter coming into the same airspace. Witnesses in these cases typically report that the military vehicle appears to be chasing the UFO. It is definitely something we watch for because it supports the reality that we believe the U.S. government still investigates UFOs."

One example where MUFON investigated a case where the military was apparently chasing UFOs includes Military jets chase UFO over AZ town. This case was investigated by Arizona MUFON and the object was determined to be an Unknown. In this second example, Helicopter reported following low flying triangle over Rhode Island, State Director Fred Saluga closed this case as an Unknown.

Lone Jack is a city in Jackson County, MO, population 1,050. The Missouri incident was Case 54029. Missouri has a UFO Alert Rating of 4 with a higher than average number of recent reports. Missouri was the 10th highest reporting state with 19 reports in January 2014 - while California had 102 reports - the highest reporting state in the nation. Anaheim is a city in Orange County, CA, population 336,265. The California incident was Case 54034. No images or videos were included with either case.

New interesting video footage of a triangle – shaped UFO recorded in the night sky above Atizapán, Mexico on 10th February 2014 at 20:26 PM.

Witness said:
A triangular UFO crosses the sky quickly on February 10, 2014 at 20:26 hrs. This video is filmed with Yukon Ranger night vision system while doing the surveillance. While recording this object suddenly passed over the camere.The video was recorded in the town Atizapán of Zaragoza, Edo. of Mexico. This recording is excellent, because we had not seen a single object of these conditions so far. It is a clearly TRIANGULAR UFO.

COMBAT PILOTS CLOSE ENCOUNTER IN FRANCE

In his chapter for “UFOs,” French Major General Denis Letty reports on the case of Air Force Captain Jean-Pierre Fartek, then a Mirage III pilot, who had seen a UFO in 1979.  

s case was most unusual, because the sighting did not occur while he was flying, but had taken place at his home in a village near Dijon, during the day.  He and his wife witnessed an oscillating object hovering low to the ground, in front of a row of apple trees. General Letty met with them at the location, and wrote this in his notes during the interview: The object looked like two reversed saucers pressed against each other” The clarity and precision of the shape of the object left no doubt that it was something solid and physical.  He provided many more details, as Letty describes. 

The similarities between the object described by the three Captains — Guerra,Schultz, and Fartek –- in different countries and in different years, are both suggestive and fascinating.  Captain Fartek submitted a report to the Air Guard Station at the base, and he was instructed not to talk about what he saw. Letty writes that Fartek, was very upset by this experience.  “He told me when we met that the sighting called into question his perception of what were then called ‘flying saucers,’ because he had never believed in them,” Letty says in his chapter.  “Now, he acknowledged to me that after seeing this craft he could no longer doubt their existence. Hearing his testimony, I too did not have any more doubt about the reality of the  Phenomenon. 

In fact, taken together, I found the Farteks’ testimony so disturbing that I have been preoccupied by the UFO problem ever since. In 1996, after he became a Major, Commander Fartek was interviewed for the COMETA study which I initiated, and even then, after seventeen years, he was still visibly shaken by what he saw.”  NOTE: The above image is a rendering.
