A Secret UFO War Is It Plausible or Out and Out Real?
There have been early indicators as well as contemporary incidents that hint at an ominous development of global and interplanetary proportions that lead us on the trail of a secret war with UFO’s. There are numerous corroborative events that hint at massively deployed operations of military acts, losses of life, and witness testimony that lead us to an ultimately beyond the top secret status of interplanetary war from a hostile alien origin. Yet, so high on the spectrum of secret magnitude that very few are ever allowed an insight into such compartmentally controlled evidence. According to veterans who have given testimony, books written by credible sources, and documented incidents, it seems that some kind of hostility exists between two civilizations in which at least one of those factions appears to be virtually unaware that their planet is engaged in an ongoing conflict with another world. Those who appear to be unaware would be us. We can’t speak for the other side of the equation, only that it appears that hostilities, secret technology, and an intelligence black out seem to be effectively underway and operating as proposed.
Evidence of the unthinkable hard to deny
There is a historic timeline that tends to corroborate this seemingly far reaching mindset that seems to quite adequately justify a government wide deployment of national; assets on a need to know basis, with a global front against an alien aggressor or perhaps aggressors, who want something we have, or are struggling with the fact that even though they have superior technology they are not able to wrestle control of our planet or its resources away from us. Or, does it get even more foreboding than that? Are we actually locked in combat with a race that only has partial control, that they can abduct humans, mutilate cattle, cause certain types of infrastructure disruption, but can’t ultimately force us to their whim because, after all, we are not so helpless, we are very good at militarism for a primitive species, and they (the alien aggressors) would have to engage us on a much more committed form of warfare than they are prepared to sacrifice for.
Do we have the tools for effective global defense?
Not to mention the fact that we have already developed fairly sophisticated means of nuclear warfare with the delivery system to convey that deadly form of warfare against our enemies, defeating us would be no cake walk. Certainly they would know by our violent and bloody history that we are capable of using all types of weaponry available to us to the point of destroying our planet, or at the least, making it inhospitable or unprofitable to exploit this sphere after such destructive measures have been executed. Perhaps even our logic fails to make sense to them as well. So, perhaps, at least in theory, we have established a possible Mexican standoff with these extraterrestrial invaders as I‘d like to describe them.
History that remains hidden from the books
Now, let us peer into recent technological history and look for indicators of a secret human alien conflict that has been isolated from general knowledge or at least from the mainstream news services and yet is being conducted on some scale of limited aggression or an unpredictable global scale of hostility in an intermittent fashion which would probably make more sense from a realistic economical standpoint. We can easily put ourselves in the place of hostile aliens and ask how could you possible deploy an expeditionary force on an interstellar or extra-solar level without great expense, time, and resources that would most likely dictate a different kind of strategic approach. Tactics that would probably be more sporadic instead of overpoweringly significant. Especially in the case of dealing with a more primitive species capable of destroying their own planet with mass weapons in the event that they perceived themselves as losing the war. In such case, deploying very destructive weapons would also necessitate respect and a contingent plan on the part of even a more technically advanced invader. And I think this is where the premise lies-limited warfare from great distances for the invaders.
1960 a year of bizarre circumstances
Three developments that occurred around 1960 seem to corroborate concerns on the part of the scientific community and the US military that a potential threat from space could be anticipated in the future. Perhaps, considering all the accounts of UFO pursuits crashes, disappearances, and alleged air to air engagements, that the evidence was already in on invaders from space so the appropriate measures were, in fact, being taken. Major Donald Kehoe USMC retired stated that as early as 1946 a USAir Force Lieutenant had prepared an intelligence estimate that theorized that an alien presence in the solar system already existed and that on at least one planet or one of its moons a base had been established. When Keyhoe released this information in one of his articles, the USAir Force denied the report saying that it did not represent the official view of that branch of service itself. One might ask just what evidence or reported activity had inspired this lieutenant to publish such a controversial intelligence estimate so far ahead of its time? Was the lieutenant in question, a comic book fan? I doubt it.
The Drake equation
In 1960 Doctor Frank Drake published a now famous equation which estimated the likelihood of intelligentlife in the universe to be up to a trillion worlds based upon an assumption of 1/10,000 of 1% of the known stars in the night sky. Based upon that premise, Dr. Drake created Project Ozma. Using a radio telescope, Drake and fellow scientists listened to the background noise generated by stars to see if any intelligent signals could be received. One ominous incident occurred in which the Project Ozma team reportedly got an intelligent signal, but it appeared to be a malevolent transmission. After decoding the meaning and weighing other considerations, one researcher suggested, “when ET calls simply hang up.” Why? His rationale was that if a more advanced civilization found that we were merely in our infancy as a technical society and could be traced by the origin of our radio telescope signals that we might end up becoming someone else’s easy conquest. The official explanation of the strange message from outer space was that Project Ozma had unwittingly received a transmission from a military spy satellite.
Who were they worried about?
In that same year of 1960 came the creation of a military orbital defense platform know as Project Saint. This was to be the forerunner of the Reagan era Star Wars orbital defense plan designed as the first missile shield using directed energy weapons or particle beams. Project Saint would identify any unknown object in orbit around the earth, maneuver into position with it, and destroy that object. Later programs more sophisticated were to come according to the late Philip J. Corso in his book, “The Day After Roswell”. What would have prompted NASA and the USAir Force to consider the launch of an orbital space defense program in priority over the first astronaut to orbit the earth? They must have anticipated a grave threat.
A secret lunar landing proposed
Little known to most people and originated in 1960 came the US Army’s plan to establish and maintain a permanent base on the moon for the purpose of discouraging aliens on the moon’s surface or them establishing a facility on the moon. This plan predated the Apollo mission by 9 years. According to Philip J. Corso, UFO reports had become so numerous, the Army wanted to maintain a presence on the moon surface to observe such activity. It was called Project Horizon. Serious plans had been made to put at least three men in a pressurized structure for the purpose of reconnaissance. Officially the project was never approved although it was thought that the base would discourage alien aspirations for setting up such a base themselves, evidence today seems to indicate they had beat us to it.. With all the modern photos showing artifacts and structures on the lunar surface Chances are the Army astronauts would have had all they could handle.
Irrefutable evidence
If these three precursors to what we know now were actually undertaken, and we know they were, then we have circumstantial evidence that corroborates reports that President Eisenhower had an exchange with an extraterrestrial civilization perhaps as early as 1954 at Holloman AFB. We also have former Air Intelligence officer, Robert Dean, who testified that in 1964 he was cleared to participate in an ultra top secret program under joint agreement with NATO that knew definitely of UFO’s existence and has established contact with the intelligence behind them. Robert Dean’s allegations open a whole new aspect to actually what level we as a race were interacting with celestial intelligence and when such operations were underway.
Asking more relevant questions now
Are we alone in the universe? That’s not the question anymore. Who are they, what are their intentions, or what is our place among the galactic order of civilizations, might be a more realistic answer. This information I extracted from a veteran’s information and resource website for ex-military of every branch of service to access anything from VA hospital treatment to psychological help for traumatic stress syndrome. It is curious that a FOIA site would carry extended length information such as what I’ve written.

AdmiralRichard E. Byrd was a colorful if not elusive figure when it came to his merits as not only an Antarctic explorer, but a high rankingUS naval officer who participated in some highly classified maneuvers on the world’s ocean waters. Having been instrumental in raising awareness over the need for the US Navy to send a task force to the South Pole, Admiral Byrd was able to get Admiral Nimitz’s support for funding from the government as well as the allocation of a sizable force in order to assume command of such a mission. In all this, Admiral Byrd also steps into the shrouded veil of darkened territory we know as the UFO mystery when events surrounding him became highly questionable and indicative of human conflict with a hostile alien force in the furthest reaches of the frigid extremes of Antarctica.
History is never what it seems
Under the allegations of a continuing human conflict against the hostile intentions of another world, we must examine and read between the lines when looking at the official version written in the history books that raises more questions then it answers. We shall take a look at questionable circumstances that seem to indicate a much different set of circumstances than the mundane premises left for us to accept as the truth in light of grievous contradictions to the so-called conventional wisdom that, at times, insults our collective intelligence. Yet, even as we know today, government double speak many times is left to more than one interpretation when we apply critical thinking. Let us delve into an enigma that raised eyebrows from the start.
Bound for the unknown
Once Admiral Richard E. Byrd’s Task Force 68 had embarked on their frigid destination to the furthest point south of that hemisphere, questions were being asked. Why was a supposed peace time exploration fleet searching for minerals and mapping a little known continent, utilizing a curious accompaniment of warships, submarines, an aircraft carrier, warplanes, destroyers, and helicopters, not to mention combined personnel of 4,700 Naval and infantry personnel? Three groups were consolidated into the task force including a land base construction outfit to erect a base on the continent. There would also be three admirals, Chester Nimitz, Byrd, and Cruzen.
At the time the Task Force left the Naval shipyards of the US under orders from Secretary of the Navy, James Forrestal, the Roswell crash already occurred and had been explained away as a misidentified weather balloon thanks to General Ramey’s official explanation staged out of Carswell Army Airfield in Ft. Worth, Texas. Little did the American public know that this very issue would be addressed again once Byrd’s fleet reached the waters of the Antarctic Ocean.
A desperate demand for nuclear weapons
Let us first travel ahead in time to the hasty departure of Byrd’s task force from the Antarctic six months ahead of schedule under secret allegations of lost aircraft, fatalities, and hostile actions taken against flying disks equipped with destructive ray weapons. Once the admiral was debriefed by the War Department and US Naval intelligence, he appeared in front of a Congressional committee and testified that there was drastic cause to justify the use of atomic weapons against aggressors based on the Antarctic continent. Admiral Byrd pleaded with Congress to approve the use of the nuclear option in <a class=”StrictlyAutoTagAnchor” title=”View all articles about Antarctica here” href=”http://www.etupdates.com/tag/antarctica”>Antarctica. As a matter of fact, Richard E. Byrd was practically in a bitter rage as he demanded that this tactical approach would be the only way to combat a superior aerial threat that could be launched from Antarctic bases that had the range to strike America in hours!
It is understandable that an Antarctic expeditionary fleet would have to be equipped with a great number of specialized vessels such as sea plane tenders, C-130 transports fitted with skis for landing on ice, tankers, PBY search and rescue aircraft as well as for mapping large regions of frozen land. There would, no doubt, be the need for detachment of CB’s for the construction of a land base and temporary harbor for the deployment of men and material from the fleet ships. Yet, destroyers, an aircraft carrier “Philippine Sea”, specially fitted fighter aircraft, infantry men, and at least 2 submarines seemed more of an offensive battle group than an peace time exploration convoy. When Byrd’s fleet departed from US shores there was an uncharacteristic effort by the Navy to publicly allude to all intentions of a peaceful mission as if to quell public fears that a new war effort was now underway with all the American people had suffered through during World War II which had only ended 18 months earlier.
A series of aerial reconnaissance missions and mapping flights were deployed daily from flight decks of the Philippine Sea aircraft carrier. Admiral Byrd was on one such aerial sortie one day when he failed to report back. A frantic search was conducted when suddenly Admiral Byrd’s aircraft was sighted returning to base two hours behind ETA. Byrd and his crew gave a fantastic story of having found a huge underground entrance that housed a subterranean military base by the Germans. Byrd’s plane was allowed to enter and land in the fantastic facility. This is one of many amazing accounts given by witnesses.
Strange and deadly events begin to transpire
Strange events began almost as soon as the task force landed off the coast of the Antarctica. Reports processed by the fleet as “accident” or “incident” reports, read more like the “after action” bulletins back channeled to high command after war time combat had taken place. In one such ambiguous report a sea plane caught fire, two passengers were burned to death while still strapped into their seats, and the aircraft crashed leaving two crewman to leap from the aircraft before impact into the frozen snow packed landscape below. This incident almost resulted in the loss of a ship’s commander.
Further described incidents seemed much too catastrophic for an exploration mission in view of the loss of life and down airplanes that could only be attributable to freak accidents and weather related mishaps. Project High Jump seemed as plagued with casualties as any war time mission could have expected which contradicted the very precepts of a peaceful mapping, resource identification, and establishment of weather related procedural initiatives originally outlined by Admiral Nimitz prior to their departure from the American mainland.
Aside from the trying to interpret the double talk of intentionally cleaned up reports, there were the unofficial accounts given by those who had heard by word of mouth from the personnel who had endured the dangers of that mysterious Antarctic mission.On one of the first nights in Antarctic waters a ship’s log describes an inexplicable aerial light in the night sky ascending at a 45 degree climb into the upper altitudes, self illuminating, and giving off a radar signature. This was an official report.
According to witness testimonies, there were battles that described aerial attacks from flying saucer type machines that battered the Naval surface ships with destructive, weaponized rays emitted from these crafts with devastating effects. It appears that Admiral Byrd’s fleet had a clandestine purpose and was prepared to do battle although it appears they suffered losses that became prohibitive as Admiral Cruzen, the Operations Commander of the task force ordered a withdrawal that cut short the return voyage of the fleet by six months. Personally, I think anytime a mission is actually terminated six months ahead of schedule, the Pentagon is going to want some answers. Apparently Admiral Byrd’s battered task force retired from their intended objectives for more than just weather related difficulties.
What was planned as an invasion of the Antarctic continent by Admiral Byrd’s task force, who could very well have been on a mission to find and destroy a secret surviving Nazi base turned out to be a failed expeditionary effort that cost American lives and material. Is it any wonder that Richard E, Byrd returned to the states and appeared in front a Congressional committee appealing for more weapons to go back and destroy whoever it was that had repulsed his fleet and ground operations, even if it came down to using tactical nukes?
Not only did Admiral Richard E. Byrd depart from the US mainland with 13 ships at his disposal, but according to sources he rendezvoused with British and Australian Naval warships to further reinforce his fleet on its way to the mysterious waters of the Antarctic, where death and destruction apparently awaited!
What corroborating events do we have on these fantastic allegations?
1) Plans for elliptical shaped aircraft armed with machine guns and having a jet turbine propulsion system were uncovered by the allied forces (Americans) who entered the secret Nazi base at Peenemunde where rocket scientist, Werner Von Braun, and his colleagues happily surrendered to US troops and were later used to originate NASA’s space program under Operation Paper Clip. The Book “Brighter Than a Thousand Suns” details the drawings of the Nazi flying saucers. It is unclear whether they were ever flown after being conceptualized on paper.
2) At least 40 German U-Boats went unaccounted for after the surrender of Germany once Berlin had fallen. There were odd reports of German U-Boats during the course of the war operating in southern latitudes far from Allied shipping lanes which would not have made tactical sense. After the was had been lost there were reports by Chilean fishermen of being approached by German U-Boats who bartered for supplies with the South American maritime merchants, who reported being paid in gold and even US dollars! 3) At least 2 German U-Boats reportedly surrendered to the Chilean Navy with one crew actually scuttling their vessel after submitting to capture. 4) Recent sightings of alleged UFO’s over Neumayer and Mawson Antarctic bases raise questions. 5) Aerial photographs allegedly show whatappear to be structures on the Antarctic wasteland that appear to be modern and unrecorded construction that some say could be Nazi bases built decades ago during or after World War II. 6) NASA satellite picks up the existence of a large underground lake of warm water beneath the ice of the Antarctic. Some theorists claim that an underground German base was established there to tap into the energy and heat from this warm fresh geo thermal water resource for obvious means of sustaining long term establishment.
Statements Made
There were both outlandish public statements made by not only Admiral Byrd but Secretary of the Navy, James Forrestal. As a result, both men may definitely come into harm’s way as a result. One more than one occasion, Admiral Byrd made outrageous statements related to his mission that would have elicited a response from the powers that be who did not want to reveal the true nature of the Antarctic threat to American citizens. Quoted from a newspaper “El Mercurio” Byrd stated that although he did not want to unduly alarm the American people, but in the bitter reality of a new war upon the continental United States that flying objects could strike the nation from the South Pole at incredible speeds! This was not the first or the last time Admiral Byrd made such publicly astounding announcements.
During the 1955 Admiral Byrd was remanded to medical treatment and restricted to bed rest in order to keep any further statements from becoming public. Although he was given a new commission to accept the command of a new Antarctic expedition, he died in 1957. Some have theorized that Richard E. Byrd was murdered for not only what he knew but what he refused to remain silent about.
As for Secretary of the Navy, James Forrestal, it seems insanity and untimely death reached him even sooner than Admiral Byrd. It is said that James Forrestal had already been under considerable strain during the course of World War II, but that knowledge of the UFO crash at Roswell, New Mexico and the reports coming out of the Antarctic by the fatalities suffered over Admiral Byrd’s task force led to Forrestal’s nervous breakdown. In the John Keel’s Book “Operation Trojan Horse” the author exposes the irrational actions of James Forrestal supposedly running through the White House screaming “We’re being invaded by flying saucers!” This led to his confinement to Bethesda hospital under the aegis of psychiatric care. James Forrestal fell to his death from an upper story window shortly after. It appears that the unhinged Secretary of the Navy may very well have been conveniently liquidated to avert the intelligence leak he was obviously capable of. Such are the unfortunate casualties of UFO secrecy. They are alarmingly high and such unwitting players in this misty world of unanswered questions become increasingly expendable.
Even as we maintain ice stations on the Antarctic continent for such purposes as weather data recording, we are receiving unsettling reports of unusual aerial activity as well as unknown lights in the frigid night skies that go unexplained. It is unclear whether or not the sacrifices and deaths that occurred over the strange events in the South Pole have ever been rectified or accounted for. We only know of the unexplained tragedies that mark the boundary that exists between the world we take for granted and that eerie netherworld of unclear history that refuses to unlock the secrets that stare back at us like a reflection off the ice.

35 Ancient Pyramids Discovered in Sudan Necropolis

35 Ancient Pyramids Discovered in Sudan Necropolis
At least 35 small pyramids, along with graves, have been discovered clustered closely together at a site called Sedeinga in Sudan.
Discovered between 2009 and 012, researchers are surprised at how densely the pyramids are concentrated. In one field season alone, in 2011, the research team discovered 13 pyramids packed into roughly 5,381 square feet (500 square meters), or slightly larger than an NBAbasketball court.
They date back around 2,000 years to a time when a kingdom named Kush flourished in Sudan. Kush shared a border with Egypt and, later on, the Roman Empire. The desire of the kingdom’s people to build pyramids was apparently influenced by Egyptian funerary architecture.
At Sedeinga, researchers say, pyramid building continued for centuries. “The density of the pyramids is huge,” said researcher Vincent Francigny, a research associate with the American Museum of Natural History in New York, in an interview with LiveScience. “Because it lasted for hundreds of years they built more, more, more pyramids and after centuries they started to fill all the spaces that were still available in the necropolis.”

The biggest pyramids they discovered are about 22 feet (7 meters) wide at their base with the smallest example, likely constructed for the burial of a child, being only 30 inches (750 millimeters) long. The tops of the pyramids are not attached, as the passage of time and the presence of a camel caravan route resulted in damage to the monuments. Francigny said that the tops would have been decorated with a capstone depicting either a bird or a lotus flower on top of a solar orb.
The building continued until, eventually, they ran out of room to build pyramids. “They reached a point where it was so filled with people and graves that they had to reuse the oldest one,” Francigny said.
Francigny is excavation director of the French Archaeological Mission to Sedeinga, the team that made the discoveries. He and team leader Claude Rilly published an article detailing the results of their 2011 field season in the most recent edition of the journal Sudan and Nubia.The inner circle
The inner Circle...
Among the discoveries were several pyramids designed with an inner cupola (circular structure) connected to the pyramid corners through cross-braces. Rilly and Francigny noted in their paper that the pyramid design resembles a “French Formal Garden.”
Only one pyramid, outside of Sedeinga, is known to have been constructed this way, and it’s a mystery why the people of Sedeinga were fond of the design. It “did not add either to the solidity or to the external aspect [appearance] of the monument,” Rilly and Francigny write.
A discovery made in 012 may provide a clue, Francigny said in the interview. “What we found this year is very intriguing,” he said. “A grave of a child and it was covered by only a kind of circle, almost complete, of brick.” It’s possible, he said, that when pyramid building came into fashion at Sedeinga it was combined with a local circle-building tradition called tumulus construction, resulting in pyramids with circles within them.

.An offering for grandma?
The graves beside the pyramids had largely been plundered, possibly in antiquity, by the time archaeologists excavated them. Researchers did find skeletal remains and, in some cases, artifacts.
One of the most interesting new finds was an offering table found by the remains of a pyramid. . It appears to depict the goddess Isis and the jackal-headed god Anubis and includes an inscription, written in Meroitic language, dedicated to a woman named “Aba-la,” which may be a nickname for “grandmother,” Rilly writes.
It reads in translation:
Oh Isis! Oh Osiris!
It is Aba-la.
Make her drink plentiful water;
Make her eat plentiful bread;
Make her be served a good meal.
The offering table with inscription was a final send-off for a woman, possibly a grandmother, given a pyramid burial nearly 2,000 years ago.

Life on other planets could be far more widespread, study finds
Earth-sized planets can support life at least ten times further away from stars than previously thought, according to academics at the University of Aberdeen.
A new paper published in Planetary and Space Science claims cold rocky planets previously considered uninhabitable may actually be able to support life beneath the surface.
The team, which included academics from the University of St Andrews, challenge the traditional ‘habitable zone’ – i.e. the area of space around a star, or sun, which can support life – by taking into consideration life living deep below the ground.
“The traditional habitable zone is also known as the Goldilocks zone,” explains PhD student Sean McMahon. “A planet needs to be not too close to its sun but also not too far away for liquid water to persist, rather than boiling or freezing, on the surface.
“But that theory fails to take into account life that can exist beneath a planet’s surface. As you get deeper below a planet’s surface, the temperature increases, and once you get down to a temperature where liquid water can exist – life can exist there too.”
The team created a computer model that estimates the temperature below the surface of a planet of a given size, at a given distance from its star.
“The deepest known life on Earth is 5.3 km below the surface, but there may well be life even 10 km deep in places on Earth that haven’t yet been drilled.
“Using our computer model we discovered that the habitable zone for an Earth-like planet orbiting a sun-like star is about three times bigger if we include the top five kilometres below the planet surface.
“The model shows that liquid water, and as such life, could survive 5km below the Earth’s surface even if the Earth was three times further away from the sun than it is just now.
“If we go deeper, and consider the top 10 km below the Earth’s surface, then the habitable zone for an Earth-like planet is 14 times wider.”
The current habitable zone for our solar system extends out as far as Mars, but this re-drawn habitable zone would see the zone extend out further than Jupiter and Saturn. The findings also suggest that many of the so-called “rogue” planets drifting around in complete darkness could actually be habitable.
“Rocky planets a few times larger than the Earth could support liquid water at about 5 km below the surface even in interstellar space (i.e. very far away from a star), even if they have no atmosphere because the larger the planet, the more heat they generate internally.
“It has been suggested that the planet Gliese 581 d, which is 20 light years away from Earth in the constellation Libra, may be too cold for liquid water at the surface. However, our model suggests that it is very likely to be able to support liquid water less than 2 km below the surface, assuming it is Earth-like.”
The significance of the subsurface is further illustrated by another paper published by the same team which suggests there could be more life below the surface of the continents on Earth thanthere is below the seafloor.
McMahon hopes the studies will encourage other researchers to consider how life on other planets might be detected.
“The results suggest life may occur much more commonly deep within planets and moons than on their surfaces. This means it might be worth looking for signs of life outside conventional habitable zones. I hope people will study the ways in which life below the surface might reveal itself. Because it’s not unimaginable that there might be signs at the surface that life exists deep below.
“The surfaces of rocky planets and moons that we know of are nothing like Earth. They’re typically cold and barren with no atmosphere or a very thin or even corrosive atmosphere. Going below the surface protects you from a whole host of unpleasant conditions on the surface. So the subsurface habitable zone may turn out to be very important. Earth might even be unusual in having life on the surface.”

Will we ever travel faster than the speed of light?
Will we ever… travel faster than the speed of light?
Einstein said it is impossible, but as Jennifer Ouellette explains some scientists are still trying to break the cosmic speed limit – even if it means bending the laws of physics.

Last summer, a small neutrino experiment in Europe called OPERA (Oscillation Project with Emulsion tRacking Apparatus) stunned the world with a preliminary announcement that it had clocked neutrinos travelling just a few fractions of a second faster than the speed of light. The news even briefly overshadowed the far more recognizable Large Hadron Collider’s ongoing hunt for the Higgs boson.
Despite careful hedging by scientists, the popular imagination jumped right from neutrinos to a viable spacecraft for fast interstellar travel. After all, the prospect of faster-than-light (FTL) travel has been a science fiction staple for decades, from wormholes and Star Trek’s original warp drive, to the FTL “jumps” used to evade the Cylons in SyFy’s Battlestar Galactica reboot. It takes years, decades, centuries even to cross the vast expanses of space with our current propulsion technology – a realistic depiction of the tedium of space travel in entertainment would likely elicit the viewer equivalent of “Are we there yet?”
So the OPERA announcement was bound to generate excitement, even if the neutrinos in question were only moving nanoseconds faster than light – hardly sufficient to outrun the Cylons, but nevertheless faster than c, the cosmic speed limit set by Albert Einstein back in 1905.
Unfortunately, the euphoria was premature: the OPERA results were incorrect, thanks to a calibration error. The culprit: a faulty cable connection in the GPS system used to time the neutrinos along their journey. That killjoy Einstein wins again.
But if the OPERA saga did tell us anything, it’s that the idea of travelling faster than light continues to capture the imagination. As Hollywood screenwriter Zack Stentz (Thor, a.k.a. “Vikings in Space”) said recently at a Los Angeles panel on the science of superheroes, “Every science fiction writer who wants to get out of the solar system [within a human lifetime] gloms onto that. It’s the leap of faith that lets you tell stories on this bigger canvas.”
“You cannae change the laws of physics”
“Leap of faith” is a particularly relevant phrase to use here. The fact is we’ll never be able to travel beyond the speed of light, at least based on our current understanding of established physics.
As any object with mass accelerates – like a proton in the LHC – it gains energy, always needing just a little bit more energy to accelerate even further. The LHC, the largest and highest-energy particle accelerator we have, boosts protons as close to the speed of light as we can get, but they never quite hit the mark. If a proton did achieve that speed, it would need infinite energy to go any faster, and we don’t have an infinite supply of energy.
Equations don’t tend to lie, especially ones that have been tested and re-tested in countless experiments for over a century. For all practical intents and purposes, the speed of light is an insurmountable threshold.
But physicists would never make any progress at all if they threw in the towel quite that easily, and nobody thinks Einstein will have the final word in perpetuity. Many scientists are happy to consider the possibility of violations of relativistic principles, even if none have yet been experimentally confirmed.
One of the earliest proposed possibilities for FTL travel involved a hypothetical particle called a tachyon, capable of tunnelling past the speed of light barrier. This turned out to be more of a mathematical artifact rather than an actual physical particle.
However, another reason for all the OPERA-tic excitement was that back in 1985, physicists proposed that some high-energy neutrinos might really be tachyons, capable of interacting with an as-yet-known field, giving them just enough of an energy boost to break through the barrier. Such tachyon-like neutrinos would supersede photons as the fastest particles in the universe.
OPERA’s calibration error dashed those hopes, but there are still plenty of potential loopholes to be explored, such as the Star Trek-inspired warp drive mechanism first proposed by Mexican physicist Miguel Alcubierre in 1994. In general relativity, spacetime is dynamic, not static, warping and bending in response to the presence of mass or energy. Alcubierre suggested that it might be possible to encase a spaceship within a “warp bubble”, whereby space contracted in front of the craft and expanded behind it, enabling it to travel faster than light. But within that bubble, spacetime would remain essentially flat and the craft would technically “obey” the cosmic speed limit.
Alas, once again we face an energy problem: achieving that degree of curvature would require enormous amounts of energy – and negative energy at that – equivalent to the mass of Jupiter. To propel a spacecraft across the Milky Way galaxy may require more energy than can be found in the mass of the entire universe. A more energy-efficient ring-shaped design for such a warp drive was described recently at a symposium on interstellar space flight, offering a meager shred of hope to diehard space acolytes that for future generations, warp drive will be a reality.
However, given what we know about general relativity and quantum field theory, “It almost certainly can’t be done,” says Ken Olum, a cosmologist at Tufts. “Of course, if we are talking about quantum gravity, it’s hard to know, because we don’t really know what that is.”
Former Nasa scientist Kevin Grazier, who was the technical consultant for Battlestar Galactica, says that a version of the Alcubierre warp drive inspired the “jump drive” used in that series. It was based on the assumption that, in this fictional world, the Colonials had merged theories of electromagnetism and gravity, such that if you could create a very intense electromagnetic field, it would be functionally equivalent to an intense gravitational field capable of warping spacetime. Turning that ingenious fiction into a viable reality is another matter altogether.
Brane gain
If we really want to get speculative, Olum suggests FTL travel would be possible if exotic concepts, like those that emerge from superstring theory, prove to be correct.
We inhabit four-dimensional spacetime, but various permutations of superstring theory suggest our universe is just one of many, co-existing within a bubble of five-dimensional spacetime called the “bulk.” Within that bulk, our universe lines up in parallel with all the others, just like the pages in a book. Olum explains that, hypothetically, one could take a shortcut through the bulk, thereby arriving at your destination sooner than if you had travelled along your four-dimensional surface, or brane (short for membrane) as it is known.
Even then, there is a catch. “In brane theories, only gravitons can travel through the bulk,” says Olum. So one would need to invent a machine that could scan an object and transmit the information in the form of gravitons to a second machine on the other end which would then reconstruct that object – shades of teleportation, only with gravitons.
Considering we have yet to observe gravitons in our most powerful accelerators, and the current record for teleporting small clouds of atoms is the relatively non-Cylon-troubling distance of 143 kilometres (88 miles), this scenario must also remain firmly in the realm of science fiction, at least for now. Science advances, but it does so slowly, at a pace nowhere near the speed of light.

Bon, j'ai été un peu provoc sur ce coup. Oui, l'étude de Maccabee sur les flares paraît convaincante (quoique prodigieusement assommante !). Elle est cependant réfutée, en particulier par certains militaires, comme indiqué dans le document TV "OVNIs, quand l'armée enquête". (On ne peut tenir compte de l'analyse contradictoire de Bill Hamilton et Tom King, personnages controversés et fortement soupçonnés de fraude aux US.) Par ailleurs, les caractéristiques techniques de l'éclairante LUU-2 décrites par Maccabee, en particulier son émission lumineuse, apparaissent pompées presque mot pour mot sur des sites web, comme par ex. celui de GlobalSecurity.org alors qu'il les présente comme de son cru. On peut donc se demander pourquoi des A-10 Thunderbolts auraient utilisé des éclairantes alors que leurs pilotes en auraient été gênés pour la vision de nuit... ... Son blindage titane et son armement, (en particulier canon rotatif GAU-8 de 30 mm à obus uranium appauvri, missile intelligent AGM-65 Maverick) en font l'arme idéale dans une éventuelle confrontation avec un objet inconnu jugé puissant et potentiellement menaçant (rien ne dit que le "triangle" l'était mais c'est la procédure en pareil cas). Dans cette hypothèse on peut considérer que ces A-10 aient été équipés d'éclairantes LUU-2 pour la circonstance : visuel amélioré d'un objet non identifié à structure très sombre (seulement délimitée par des lumières) et/ou leurrage de leur propre détection optique par ledit objet.

Witness said: The object move over the roof line horizontally and vertically. At one point it descended out of our sight behind the rooftop of the building. I then moved to the top of the front stoop to gain height and re-spotted the object. I saw it move for a few seconds and then it descended further out of sight. At this point we all decided to run up to our building’s rooftop to get even higher off the ground in hope to capture it on video again. When we reached the top of our building we saw the object again. It was hovering in one spot and then it started to ascend. Then it moved to our right. Then it appeared to move in our direction slightly. That is when I saw a glare of pure white light with a tint of blue. I have seen something similar to to this glare on the HID lights of some cars. We observed the object move in a straight line to our right and then back to the left. It ascended and hovered and then descended behind the same building it was flying over. There were many things that helped distinguish this object over its surroundings. The clouds, lights on top of buildings, airplanes flying by, background city noise, even airplane engine noise. This thing made no sounds that we were able to pick up.

Witness said: Ufo Cigar Shaped Ufo Over Utah Canyons, February 2014. Not far from Area 51 and close to Nevada there are many interesting places like Brice Canyon National Park. Brice Canyon National Park was exactly where this video was recorded. This tape was exclusively turned into us so we can present to our viewers for the very first time. In this video we can clearly see what appears to be a Cigar Shaped Ufo flying over some mountains on the horizon, these mountains are located on the outskirts of Nevada. We enhanced the footage by slowing it down so the viewers can easily see the Cigar Shaped Ufo that was recorded.
Location: Thetis Lake, British Columbia, Canada – 8/19/1972
The two boys, namely, Robin Flewellyn and Gordon Pike, were standing next to the recreation center on Thetis Lake when they saw a scaly creature emerge from the lake and move unto the shoreline. It was, as they had described, roughly triangle shaped, with dark, large, bulging fish-like eyes and mouth, and a razor-sharp spike on the top of its head. Its weight is estimated to be 120 lbs, and measures around 5 feet tall, and 5 feet wide. The two teens were terrified at the sight of the huge scaly amphibious monster and they ran for their lives.
With its sporting webbed extremities, the creature chased the two teenagers until a few distance from the lake. The voracious predator was able to catch up with one of the young men, lacerating his hand with its razor-pointed head.
The two lads, still filled with terror after narrowly escaping the grisly creature, rushed to the nearest Royal Canadian Mountain Police station and told the officers about the incident on Thetis Lake. They showed them the cut that was claimed to have been caused by the razor-sharp fin of the lake monster. The authorities felt sincerity on the story of the two boys, hence they immediately launched a manhunt, or should I better say, “monsterhunt”, on the said lake. However, nothing turned up during that time of investigation.
The case was almost taken for granted until four days after, August 23 of the same year, at around 3:30 in the afternoon, Russell Van Nice and Mike Gold claimed to have seen the same creature from the opposite side of the Thetis Lake. But unlike the report of the two teens that were pursued by the creature, this time, it only emerged from the lake, looked around, and submerged itself back into the water.
Gold and Nice described the monster-faced creature as having a human-like body, of at least 5 feet tall. It has silver-colored scaly skin, a sharp point protruding on its head, and very big ears and horrifying eyes.
Location: Johnson City, Tennessee – June 18, 1997 – 1:00 am
The witness and his cousin were out hunting and were sitting on the side of the wall of a rather large hollow which consisted of very thick underbrush and lots of evergreen. A larger valley then lead first to a clearing and then on to a supposed old Indian graveyard. All of the sudden they heard the brush in the hollow below rattling and they could tell that whatever was making the sounds was rather large.
The main witness was armed with a Ruger 10-22 rifle with approximately 150 rounds of ammo ready to go. Under his night vision scope he could see what appeared to be a man, but upon further inspection he realized that the “man” was a creature about 7-8 ft tall approximately 450 lbs. It was covered with thick black fur and was slimmer that the popular Bigfoot image, almost skinny with a neck. Also protruding on either side of its head were long tapered “horns” also black in color. On the top of the head also protruded a horn pointing straight up. All horns were approximately 5-6 inch in length and were the same dark color as the creature.
The terrified witness emptied a 25 round clip into the creature and then retreated into a nearby cabin about 65 ft away. The next morning they could not find anything except for lots of spent shell casings and bullet holes on a walnut tree. He thought he had struck the creature several times. Nearby animals traps had been sprung and all the bait extracted. On a nearby ridge the witnesses located a series of tunnels made up of brush and various sizes of tree limbs, vines and leaves. They thought it could have been “the lair of the beast.” Afraid they returned home.
As the witness slept in her apartment she suddenly awoke feeling a strange oppressive atmosphere around her. She opened her eyes and saw a humanoid figure bending down over her. The figure was short, about 130cm, and looked intently at the witness. The figure had a grayish green pale facial complexion. It had large dark pupil less eyes. Heavy skin folds covered the head and body of the creature. It had what appeared to be a thin beard and appeared to be elderly. A second humanoid now appeared next to the first one. This one was somewhat shorter and appeared younger, both resembled aged “gnomes”. Both figures then floated back from the bed and vanished. At this point what appeared to be a tennis ball size sphere of light appeared in their place. The sphere disappeared into the next room and then flew out an opened window.
The main witness, a 10-year old girl enjoying her vacation at her aunt’s home, and other members of the family heard what sounded like loud knocks on the patio door. The 10-year old girl went outside but found no one around. She went back in, but moments later there was more knocking at the door. The girl went outside again and this time she saw two lights hovering over her aunt’s house. Both lights were bright red in color. She felt fear and attempted to go back inside but a strange attraction to the lights kept her from moving. She stared fixedly at the lights when suddenly a smaller red light appeared followed by a larger red light that appeared to chase the smaller one. The larger red light then suddenly flew towards the girl blinding her with its brightness. The girl was unable to move felt herself being transported to another location.
Some time later her mother, worried about the witness whereabouts, went out looking for her finding her daughter sprawled out on the patio floor in an apparent trance-like state, mentioning things that were supposedly going to occur in the future. Apparently the girl remained in this trance-like the rest of the night. Her mother was extremely concerned since she had several years previously lost a brother (the girl’d s uncle) in similar mysterious circumstances apparently involving UFOs. There are no specific details on how he died.
Two men reported seeing a “hairy man-like creature” on Snow King Mountain near Jackson, Wyo., early one morning.
Robert Goodrich and Glenn Towner, reported to police that they were chased off Snow King Mountain by a possible Bigfoot that was 12 feet tall with long, dark hair and arms, which hung almost to the ground. The two men said that they were going to visit a friend who had built a lean-to on the mountain when they encountered the creature.
The men told police the creature breathed heavily and made a moaning growl-type noise. They described the creature as having a simian-like face as big as a stop sign and that the creature was hunchbacked. They ran when they spotted the creature, and that it followed them. The last time they saw the creature, it was standing under a street light near the Ramada Snow King Inn in Jackson.
Neither had been drinking and no further evidence was found.
Parfois la réalité rattrape la fiction. C'est d'autant plus impressionnant lorsqu'il s'agit de films de science-fiction. Le designer de Nike vient en effet d'annoncer la future commercialisation de chaussures lacées automatiquement, inspirées directement de "Retour vers le futur II", un film devenu culte, notamment chez les geeks du monde entier.
La trilogie "Retour vers le futur" de Robert Zemeckis propose de suivre les aventures de Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) et de Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) qui voyagent dans le temps grâce à une voiture - une DeLorean - volante. Le premier film, sorti en 1985, parle d'un voyage dans le passé trente ans plus tôt, en 1955. Le second volet emmène les protagonistes en octobre 2015 à Hill Valley (ville fictive en Californie).
Sorti en décembre 1989, le deuxième volet du film égraine, avec vingt-six d'avance, une série de trouvailles géniales, qui ont marqué une génération de spectateurs. Certaines se sont effectivement réalisées, d'autres loin de là. Le "Nouvel Observateur " fait le point.
En 2015, Marty McFly chausse ses Nike Air Mags qui s'ajustent automatiquement à son pied et surtout se lacent toutes seules. Le designer de Nike, Tinker Hatfield, a annoncé que la marque américaine a mis au point des chaussures utilisant cette technique d'auto-laçage et qu'elles seront bien commercialisées en 2015.
2.Des tablettes tactiles partout
Et si Steve Jobs avait inventé l'iPad en regardant "Retour vers le futur II" ? Dans le film, un homme tend à Marty McFly une tablette tactile pour signer électroniquement une pétition pour sauver l'horloge de l'hôtel de ville.
On suppose ainsi que, dans le 2015 vu par Robert Zemeckis, les tablettes tactiles sont omniprésentes. Soit une explosion prédite 21 ans avant le premier iPad. Génial, on vous dit.
3.La fin des disques
A l'époque de la cassette audio et de la VHS, "Retour vers le futur II" prédit déjà la mort du nouveau format vidéo : le Laser disc. Ces (très) grands disques vidéo ont été commercialisés jusqu'en 1998, avant de disparaître. On les aperçoit dans les poubelles, derrière Marty McFly.
Les Laser disc ont été rapidement remplacés par le plus petit DVD (lancé en 1995), et aujourd'hui par le Blu-Ray. Même constat pour le CD audio qui a remplacé la cassette, avant de se voir terrasser par le MP3.
4. La maison connectée
Dans la maison de Marty et Jennifer McFly de 2015, la domotique est omniprésente. On voit des ordinateurs un peu partout pour cuisiner et autres.
Aujourd'hui, la maison connectée commence à s'imposer : frigo, chauffage, air conditionné, lit... tout devient contrôlable avec le smartphone. Même Google s'y intéresse, en rachetant Nest. Bien vu.
5. La vidéo-conférence
Les premières expériences de vidéo-conférences ont lieu en 1987 dans le cadre restreint d'expériences universitaires coûteuses. On est alors bien loin d'outils comme le logiciel Skype, gratuit, répandu et accessible à tous avec un simple ordinateur ou smartphone (le logiciel n'est lancé qu'en 2003).
Pourtant, "Retour vers le futur II" prédit dès 1989 qu'en 2015 la plupart des conversations auront lieu par vidéo-chat. Marty McFly se fait d'ailleurs licencier par ce biais sur un écran de télévision. Aujourd'hui, il est en effet possible d'accéder à Skype sur sa télé connectée ou sa Xbox. Les appels vidéo tendent même à s'imposer sur mobile.
6. La sécurité biométrique
"Retour vers le futur II" parie sur une généralisation des contrôles biométriques, en particulier par empreinte digitale.
Dans le film, le doigt sert ainsi à ouvrir la porte de sa maison, mais aussi à régler des achats. Bingo ! Aujourd'hui, les scanners d'empreinte se multiplient. Apple propose ainsi de déverrouiller son iPhone 5S avec son doigt, mais aussi de régler des achats sur l'AppStore.
7. Le contrôle vocal
Dans le 2015 de "Retour vers le futur II", tout se contrôle à la voix, à commencer par le téléviseur. On voit l'un des personnages principaux "zapper" en prononçant tout haut le nom des chaînes. Idem pour le four, ou quand Marty cueille des fruits dans une corbeille suspendue au-dessus de la table à dîner, en disant "hey fruit !"
A nouveau, le film s'avère en adéquation avec la réalité où le contrôle vocal tend à se généraliser. Avec la Xbox One et son capteur Kinect, il est désormais possible de contrôler sa télé à la voix. Même constat pour les smartphones Android et iPhone qui intègrent des détecteurs de commandes vocales de plus en plus élaborés.
8. Les films en 3D (et les suites à répétition)
Quand il se promène dans le Hill Valley de 2015, Marty McFly tombe nez à nez avec une publicité holographique géante pour "Les Dents de la mer 19". Certes, les cinémas ne proposent pas encore une 3D holographique aussi poussée que dans le film de Zemeckis - et encore moins en extérieur, en plein jour.
Mais la 3D s'est imposée dans les salles obscures, en particulier pour les blockbusters et les films d'animation. Même constat pour les suites à répétition, monnaie courante dans le cinéma hollywoodien, même si "Les Dents de la mer" ne compte (pour l'instant) que quatre suites.
9. Les lunettes vidéo
Dans "Retour vers le futur II", le fils de Marty McFly utilise des lunettes vidéo qui lui permettent de regarder un film en solitaire. Effectivement, plusieurs casques existent.
En 2011, le "Nouvel Obs" avait ainsi testé le casque vidéo de Sony qui permet de regarder des films en 3D de manière individualiste, ou de jouer à sa Playstation. En matière de jeux vidéo, le prototype Oculus Rift fait également beaucoup parler de lui.
10. Des jeux vidéo sans manette
Alors que l'acteur Elijah Wood fait ses débuts au cinéma en regardant Marty McFly jouer sur une borne d'arcade, "Retour vers le futur II" fait le (juste) pari de jeux vidéo où l'on ne joue plus avec des manettes, mais face à des détecteurs de mouvements.
Le film prédit ainsi les succès de la Wii de Nintendo et du capteur Kinect de la Xbox de Microsoft.
11. Le Slamball
Un journal du 2015 de "Retour vers le futur II" évoque le début des éliminatoires du Slamball, un sport imaginaire en 1989... mais qui a été créé en 2000. Outre la Une du journal, le sport est évoqué dans le film sur le dos de la couverture du fameux almanach des sports.
Le réel Slamball est une variante du basket-balll où des trampolines sont placés sous les paniers pour des dunks impressionnants. Les équipes comptent 4 joueurs et le terrain est entouré de murs plastifiés. Il dispose de son propre championnat. Bref, le film a imaginé le nom d'un sport, qui a vu le jour 11 ans après !
B) Ce qui s'est (presque) réalisé
Le rêve de tout enfant qui a vu "Retour vers le futur II" est rose et flotte dans les airs : l'hoverboard. Ce skate-board du futur se déplace en lévitation, offrant une course poursuite d'anthologie à Marty McFly.
"La technologie dont nous avons besoin pour construire un vrai hoverboard existe déjà", s'enflamme Robert Haleluk. "Elle coûte seulement très cher et est difficilement accessible aujourd'hui", tempère-t-il. Le fondateur de Hakel Industries a ainsi lancé un appel aux dons des internautes pour récolter 1 million de dollars afin de créer le skate futuriste, qui fonctionnerait avec des hélices et non des aimants comme dans le film. L'ensemble serait commandé depuis une appli mobile.
Robert Haleluk a imaginé une structure en fibre carbone, pour un hoverboard alimenté par une batterie en cours d'élaboration par IBM qui tiendrait jusqu'à 800km. Reste que d'après le projet, la planche imaginée ne semble pas capable de supporter le poids d'un passager.
Un autre concept a été imaginé en 2011 à l'université Paris VII Diderot. A l'occasion de la Fête de la science, la faculté a créé un prototype d'hoverboard qui reste en lévitation à 3cm au-dessus d'un rail aimanté.
Mieux, il est capable de supporter une personne jusqu'à 100kg. Reste qu'il ne s'agit pour l'instant que d'un prototype, qui n'est pas encore prêt d'être commercialisé.
Un artiste français a lui créé un hoverboard capable de flotter dans les airs grâce à un système électromagnétique et une stabilisation laser. Il n'est toutefois pas capable de supporter le poids d'un humain et ne glisse pas vers l'avant.
Enfin, le fabricant de jouet Mattel a commercialisé en 2012 une réplique de l'hoverboard vendue 120 dollars. Seulement, celui-ci ne flotte pas dans les airs. Si bien que Gizmodo l'a baptisé "pire jouet de 2012".
Les lunettes-téléphones
"Retour vers le futur II" a bien prédit qu'en 2015 tout le monde dispose d'un téléphone sur soi. Seulement, le film imagine les mobiles implantés dans des lunettes de soleil. Des premiers prototypes de lunettes connectées existent effectivement déjà (les plus célèbres étant les Google Glass), mais tous passent par un smartphone pour les fonctions téléphoniques. Les lunettes n'intègrent en effet pas encore les puces téléphoniques.
Les drones-journalistes
Lorsque Griff (petit-fils de Bill) quitte le tribunal entouré de policiers, l'événement est couvert par des drones-journalistes. Ces petits robots volants filment à l'aide de plusieurs caméras.
La question des drones se fait effectivement de plus en plus récurrente, et en toute logique les médias s'en emparent. Pour l'heure, l'idée n'est pas de remplacer la meute de journaliste à la sortie des tribunaux mais plutôt de couvrir des zones de guerre. L'utilisation des drones n'en est encore qu'à ses débuts en matière de médias, et les restrictions sont nombreuses - la préfecture de police interdit pour le moment de survoler une manifestation dans Paris à l'aide d'un drone - Le "Nouvel Observateur" peut en témoigner.
C) 13 choses qui ne se sont pas réalisées
1. Les voitures volantes
Outre la DeLorean, dans le 2015 de "Retour vers le futur II", toutes les voitures volent. Le ciel s'est transformé en immenses autoroutes. Des feux et panneaux régissent une circulation chaotique. Un fantasme récurrent dans les films d'anticipation qui n'est pas encore prêt d'être réalisé. Plusieurs tentatives ont été réalisées.
On peut citer, en Slovaquie, un ingénieur qui a créé un prototype d'automobile qui déploie des ailes pour se transformer en avion et s'envoler.
Ou encore, la société américaine Terrafugia a également créé un prototype d'une voiture disposant d'ailes flexibles pour se métamorphoser en petit avion. Reste que, pour l'instant, les voitures volantes sont loin d'être la norme. L'industrie automobile réfléchit plutôt à des véhicules automatisés, voire qui se conduisent tout seul.
2. Mr Fusion
Cette marque imaginaire aperçue au début de "Retour vers le futur II" semble être l'une des inventions les plus pratiques du film. Il s'agit d'un collecteur de déchets qui transforme tout ce qu'on jette en énergie propre, grâce à un processus de fusion nucléaire.
Un tel procédé n'a malheureusement pas encore été inventé. Même s'il existe le procédé de biogaz, c'est-à-dire le gaz produit par fermentation de matières organiques animales ou végétales qui peut être utilisé comme source d'énergie, l'équivalent d'un pratique et facile Mister Fusion n'est pas commercialisé pour les particuliers.
3. Les robots pompistes
Lorsqu'il doit faire le plein de sa DeLorean volante, Doc laisse un robot pompiste s'en charger. De quoi laisser supposer que de nombreux métiers de 2015 seraient réalisés par des automates. Que nenni. Aujourd'hui, il faut toujours faire soi-même le plein de son véhicule. Et l'avenir ne semble plus donné à l'essence mais à l'électrique. Cela dit, on peut payer son plein dans des stations sans pompistes, avec uniquement sa carte bleue. Un demi point.
4. Les centres de rajeunissement
Dans "Retour vers le futur II", Doc explique à Marty qu'un centre de rajeunissement lui a permis de gagner 30 ans d'espérance de vie. Il s'y est fait remplacer les intestins, la rate et le sang, implanté des cheveux, etc.
Robert Zemeckis trouve surtout un moyen d'expliquer que l'acteur n'a physiquement pas vieilli entre 1989 et 2015. Toutefois, malgré l'augmentation du recours à la chirurgie esthétique, de tels centres n'existent pas.
5. La veste auto-séchante
Dans la veine des Nike auto-laçantes, Marty McFly dispose d'une veste qui s'ajuste automatiquement à sa carrure et qui offre une option de séchage après la pluie. Aucune veste de ce type n'est en rayon, même si les ingénieurs se penchent de plus en plus sur une garde de robe qui se connecte. Une grosse déception. Ingénieurs, où êtes-vous ?
6. La double cravate
Le Marty McFly de 2015 aborde fièrement une double cravate. Summum de la classe ? En tout cas, ce style n'a toujours pas pris.
7. Le fax pour tous
"Retour vers le futur II" a parié sur le mauvais cheval. En effet, le film part du postulat qu'en 2015 le fax se sera répandu partout, remplaçant la lettre postale.
Les boîtes aux lettres intègrent des fonctions fax, la maison des McFly dispose de fax dans toutes les pièces (et même dans les placards), etc. Raté. Robert Zemeckis n'a pas prédit l'émergence d'internet et de l'e-mail.
8. Les poubelles mobiles
Lorsque Doc veut se débarrasser du fameux Almanach des sports, il le jette dans une poubelle mobile qui vient vers lui automatiquement. De telles poubelles mobiles, qui seraient capables de se mouvoir et de se vider sans action humain, n'existent pas.
9. La nourriture déshydratée
Dans le 2015 de "Retour vers le futur II", exit le micro-ondes. Les pizzas surgelées sont déposées dans un hydrateur de nourriture qui en quelques secondes transforme une toute petite pizza sèche et dure en appétissante et grande pizza.
La nourriture déshydratée existe (les pâtes, les soupes en poudre...) mais n'est pas vraiment répandue.
Il est également possible d'opter pour l'un des 5.000 plats déshydratés de l'entreprise américaine Costco, mais le goût ne semble pas être au rendez-vous. Et il n'existe pas de pizza déshydratée, trop complexe à recréer.
En revanche, l'armée américaine vient d'inventer la pizza (presque) immortelle. Comme quoi, en 2014, l'humanité a bien progressé.
10. Le chenil galactique
Pour éviter d'être encombré de son chien Einstein, Doc explique dans le film qu'il l'a laissé en hibernation dans un chenil galactique. Cela permet de s'absenter sans que son animal ne s'en aperçoive.
La cryogénisation est largement évoquée à travers la science-fiction, seulement dans l'état-actuel du savoir-faire médical ce procédé n'est pas réversible. Pour autant, quelques centaines de personnes décédées ont déjà été cryogénisées, les adeptes de cette pratique affirmant que cela permet de conserver la mémoire et la personnalité de l'individu dans la structure chimique du cerveau gelé.
11. La chaîne paysage
Dans la maison des McFly de 2015, la télévision diffuse sur un mur un paysage. "Antenne paysage" se veut une chaîne qui ne diffuse que des paysages animés. Pour l'instant, aucune chaîne n'exploite ce créneau. Même si depuis la diffusion du film, les diffuseurs n'ont pas manqué d'imagination, comme la création d'une chaîne montrant des poulets rôtissant à la broche 24h/24.
12. Diana en reine d'Angleterre
Un journal du film indique (à droite) que Washington s'apprête à recevoir la visite de la reine... Diana. "Retour vers le futur II" a parié par anticipation sur l'accession au trône de Diana. Problème, la princesse est décédée dans un accident de voiture en 1997.
13. Et bien sûr, last but not least.... la machine à remonter dans le temps
Le postulat de départ de la trilogie "Retour vers le futur", à savoir la DeLorean capable de voyager dans le temps, n'a pas été inventée. Aujourd'hui, cette hypothèse pose encore de nombreux problèmes de physique.

How would humanity change if we knew aliens existed?
We have yet to discover any signs of an extraterrestrial civilization — a prospect that could quite literally change overnight. Should that happen, our sense of ourselves and our place in the cosmos would forever be shaken. It could even change the course of human history. Or would it?
Last week, SETI’s Seth Shostak made the claim that we’ll detect an alien civilization by 2040. Personally, I don’t believe this will happen (for reasons I can elucidate in a future post — but the Fermi Paradox is definitely a factor, as is the problem of receiving coherent radio signals across stellar distances). But it got me wondering: What, if anything, would change in the trajectory of a civilization’s development if it had definitive proof that intelligent extraterrestrials (ETIs) were real?
Finding a World Much Like Our Own
As I thought about this, I assumed a scenario with three basic elements.
First, that humanity would make this historic discovery within the next several years or so. Second, that we wouldn’t actually make contact with the other civilization (just the receipt, say, of a radio transmission — something like a Lucy Signalthat would cue us to their existence). And third, that the ETI in question would be at roughly the same level of technological development as our own (so they’re not too much more advanced than we are; that said, if the signal came from an extreme distance, like hundreds or thousands of light-years away, these aliens would probably have advanced appreciably by now. Or they could be gone altogether, the victims of a self-inflicted disaster).
I tossed this question over to my friend and colleague Milan Cirkovic. He’s a Senior Research Associate at the Astronomical Observatory of Belgrade and a leading expert on SETI.
“Well, that’s a very practical question, isn’t it?” he responded. “Because people have been expecting something like this since 1960 when SETI was first launched — they haven’t really been expecting to find billion-year old supercivilizations or just some stupid bacteria.”
Indeed, the underlying philosophy of SETI over the course of its 50-year history has been that we’ll likely detect a civilization roughly equal to our own — for better or worse. And no doubt, in retrospect it started to look “for worse” when the hopes of an early success were dashed. Frank Drake and his colleagues thought they would find signs of ETIs fairly quickly, but that turned out not to be the case (though Drake’s echo can still be heard in the unwarranted contact optimism of Seth Shostak).
“Enormous Implications”
“Some people argued that a simple signal wouldn’t mean much for humanity,” added Cirkovic, “but I think Carl Sagan, as usual, had a good response to this.”
Specifically, Sagan said that the very understanding that we are not unique in the universe would have enormous implications for all those fields in which anthropocentrism reigns supreme.
“Which means, I guess, half of all the sciences and about 99% of the other, non-scientific discourse,” said Cirkovic.
Sagan also believed that the detection of a signal would reignite enthusiasm for space in general, both in terms of research and eventually the colonization of space.
“The latter point was quite prescient, actually, because at the time he said this there wasn’t much enthusiasm about it and it was much less visible and obvious than it is today,” he added.
No doubt — this would likely generate tremendous excitement and enthusiasm for space exploration. In addition to expanding ourselves into space, there would be added impetus to reach out and meet them.
At the same time, however, some here on Earth might counterargue that we should stay home and hide from potentially dangerous civilizations (ah, but what if everybody did this?). Ironically, some might even argue that we should significantly ramp-up our space and military technologies to meet potential alien threats.

De Nieuw-Zeelandse minister-president John Key is naar eigen zeggen geen buitenaards wezen dat van gedaante kan veranderen.
Key zag zich gedwongen te reageren tegenover journalisten, nadat een man uit Auckland een Wob-verzoek had ingediend waarin hij om bewijs vroeg.
“Voor zover ik weet ben ik er niet één,” verklaarde Key. “Ik ben naar een dokter en een dierenarts geweest en allebei hebben ze bevestigd dat ik geen reptiel ben,” zei Key met een glimlach.
Menselijke vorm
“Ik ben nog nooit in een ruimteschip of in de ruimte geweest,” voegde de premier van Nieuw-Zeeland toe. Afgelopen maand diende Shane Warbrooke bij het kantoor van de premier een Wob-verzoek in, waarin hij vroeg om bewijs waaruit blijkt dat John Key geen buitenaards wezen is dat van gedaante kan veranderen.
De Britse schrijver David Icke stelt dat de wereld in het geheim wordt bestuurd door een ras van reptielen in menselijke vorm. Als voorbeelden noemt hij onder meer Queen Elizabeth, George W. Bush, Tony Blair en prinses Beatrix.
Antwoord
Wayne Eagleson, de rechterhand van Key, heeft Warbrooke inmiddels geantwoord dat het Wob-verzoek is afgewezen omdat ‘het document waarin de gevraagde informatie staat niet bestaat of niet kan worden gevonden’.
Dit was precies het antwoord waar Warbrooke op had gerekend. “Maar ze hebben wel de volle 20 werkdagen die ervoor staan gewacht voordat ze me antwoord gaven,” zei hij.
A strange object was seen in the skies over San Miguel de Tucumán, creating doubts as to whether it was a UFO.
The images were recorded with a cellphone camera from the corner of Mate de Luna and Pellegrini avenues from the capital city of the “Jardín de la República” (garden of the republic – the name bestowed by president Domingo Sarmiento on the area when he encountered the subtropical cloud forest [yungas] of the Tucumán-Bolivia region – Ed).
The videoclip is 42 seconds long and a displays a slow-moving white object or light.
After a number of seconds, the light vanishes behind the treeline as a radio broadcast can be heard in the background.
The nearly seventy year mystery of UFOs has still not been solved or revealed in any satisfactory sense. That UFO/ET experiencers both inside and outside the national security state, the former being whistleblowers, have not produced a solution to this most aggravating and persistent of daily phenomena weighs hard on reason. How is such a thing possible? Is it because they, the aliens, are so far advanced over us that they don't have to worry about the sentient apes penetrating their systems? Is it because intelligence agencies throughout the world are supremely competent at keeping secrets? Or is it possibly because the aliens that really matter are so far ahead of human notions of auto-transportation that they don't even use UFOs? Although we can't seem to fathom how ET might establish a presence in our solar system without UFOs, recent thinking has considered the possibility in terms of inter-dimensional travel, various quantum and string-theory-based possibili ties. It should not surprise us if beings a billion years more advanced than us transport themselves in some way other than auto-propelled carriages.

The license plate numbers “933″ over-scored by the chrome accent seem to “augur” comet Shoemaker-Levy 9's appearance in March 1993 five months later. Note the “skill” and precision, not to mention the knowledge of impact mechanics, demonstrated. The recovered 27.3 pound Peekskill meteorite was 4″ x 5″ x 11″; the dimensions of the car signal-light are approximately 5″ x 22″. Both the car and meteorite were exhibited together in the American Museum of Natural History in NYC in 1993. The fireball from which the meteorite came was seen at 8 p.m. (prime-time) in at least eight U.S. states and filmed from six of them.
The impact occurred Oct.9, 1992, three (b0) days before NASA-Ames commenced the “Targeted Search”, a 100 million dollar SETI project, on October 12, 1992, and three (b0 )) days before the American Quincentennial (Columbus discovered America Oct. 12, 1492). NASA's hypothesis was and remains a simple one: ET exists. ET's semiotic reply: “Right, Ames! (we do exist). Of course, the ET investigators at Ames Research Center were only looking for intelligently produced radio-wave signals (not meteoritic signals), and so missed ET's reply. Many other extraordinary details and coincidences seem to confirm that the meteor event was, in fact, intelligently fashioned as a multi-eloquent, albeit semiotic, communication/overture of greeting.
But can a non-UFO ET theory be seen as anything but sacrilege? It shouldn't, really. Reports that alien spacecraft reside in secret hangars are anything but confirmed. The people who have reported seeing them at Area 51 might easily be duped into thinking they saw crashed saucers when all they really saw were models. What's more, the art and science of film special effects (Fx) is ceretainly nothing less than amazing these days.
“National Security” is a convenient catch-all excuse to black-box the whole subject, and use it for propaganda purposes. Governments have proven their capacity to be nothing less than nefarious when it comes to disseminating disinformation, and one should certainly expect the subject of UFOs to be exploited to help promote one agenda or another.
One question is, why would advanced aliens need to collude with generals and the like? Is there anything they could possibly want that they couldn't take or find elsewhere? If these unknown generals or property owners (Area 51 seems not to belong to the US government) have dead aliens staked out or embalmed, would this endear them to aliens sufficiently to cause aliens to collude with them? The idea that elite cabals are able to compel aliens to do anything seems incredible on its face.
Another question is why wouldn't the aliens have thought about the inevitable contingency that someday one of their ships would crash on our planet, allowing some of their most valuable secrets to be acquired by primitive and opportunistic aliens (humans)? Why wouldn't they have taken measures to preclude any such capture or exploitation of their technology and genotype? A simple auto-destruct mechanism would do the trick. The idea that advanced aliens would overlook this makes no sense.
That UFOs are real is not the issue because numerous cases have been satisfactorily confirmed as being of a non-alien type. This includes secret experimental military aircraft, weather balloons, holograms, inversion layers, conventional aircraft (e.g. when under certain atmospheric conditions the wings of a jet appear to disappear), hallucinations (e.g. from an acid trip), hoaxes, and, most recently, drones, to name a few. These are not alien in origin, yet many in the UFO field insist that all this comprises but a substantial percentage of the cases, not all cases. If it is true that some small percentage of unexplainable cases are alien space/air craft, then we are back to the aliens-are-just-too-advanced-for-us theory. Such a theory makes sense inasmuch as they have at least proven themselves eminently spaceworthy, where we humans have not.
So what does a non-UFO alien theory look like? For one thing, the aliens will probably not resemble humans, reptiles or any other Earth inhabitant. For another thing, they will probably be well beyond transporting themselves in space carriages or other faulty contraptions. Having survived and even flourished over a long period of time, they will probably have transcended the will-to-power-for-its-own-sake thing that seems to obsess and plague humankind. If their intentions were malevolent they would have almost certainly taken our planet for themselves by now, men with spears or even stars on their shoulders notwithstanding. So we are left with benevolent entities that just happen to be even more advanced over us than Chris Columbus and the Conquistadors were over the indigenous natives found in the new world. But give such an advantage to humans and they'll exploit it to the hilt every time.
Because extra-terrestrials are, in hindsight, essentially benevolent toward us, followers of Nietzche, Darwin (“survival of the fittest”) and Machiavelli would no doubt find such kindly restraint more than a little perplexing. Perhaps this is just a human thing, a thing that puts the ape-like creature a crawl, a few steps, and a roll from the primordial swamp. We should at least be careful not to automatically transfer human traits onto extra-terrestrials, especially if we consider what could be the “extra” in extra-terrestrial.
How would aliens express themselves to humans? Would they express themselves to us at all, any more than we would attempt to express ourselves to ants in an anthill? The answer, it turns out, is not terribly hard to find, because the facts strongly suggest that they have expressed, even revealed, themselves to us.
Take 21 comets crashing into Jupiter, for example. This happened in July 1994 and could count as the kind of thing aliens might pull off to augur and celebrate the ape-man's 21st century. Yet who in the world thought it odd that the number of comet fragments just happened to be twenty-one? Almost no one. Comets have been thought for millenia by human societies to be messages from the gods, harbingers of great change and disasters to come. The notion is very much a human thing, after all.
That advanced aliens might use their overarching technology to interface with our world in this manner is consistent with what we know about aliens. They do seem to maintain a hands-off approach where humans are concerned. That is, direct contact with our species has so far been a no-no, but this does not preclude indirect contact being made (alas!).
The great comet crash of 1994 was certainly hard to miss, and the event won't be going away anytime soon. There's hardly anything in the world scientists enjoy more than to watch really really big explosions. The 21 impacts of Jupiter were the most energetic events of any kind ever seen in this solar system. Period. They were documented, filmed, photgraphed, and studied nine ways to Sunday by the world's astronomical community. Scientists were bouncing off the walls for six days while fragments A through W (I and O were not used) pummeled the gas giant from July 16 to 22. According to one estimate, fragment “G” alone released about 600 times the energy of all the nuclear bombs on Earth!
Maybe the alien message to astronomers was that they should begin to study asteroids and their impacts. This bio-galactic reality was pretty much laughed off by science before 1994 as something that happened millions of years ago but no longer. It would be a damn shame if such a promsing but planet-bound species should go extinct from something so simple and stupid as the impact of some comet or asteroid, without that species having had much of a clue about this particular danger. Shoemaker-Levy 9 sure woke scientists up to the reality in a hurry, so much so that they only then began to study asteroids. So there was extraterrestrial communication and a human response to it, after all. In spite of NASA's denial that the 21 comets could have been a message to them from aliens, “the message” got through loud and clear, anyway.
Project NEAR, the Near Earth Asteroid Rendezvous, launched from Cape Canaveral just three years after Shoemaker-Levy 9 was discovered. After a four year journey that included fly-bys of Earth (Jan. 1998) and asteroids Mathilde (June 1997) and Eros (December 1998), NEAR began orbiting the 21-mile-long asteroid Eros on Feb. 14, 2000. Maybe this was exactly what the designers of SL-9 had in mind when they fashioned the so-called “string of pearls.”
Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 and its aftermath may not be the only interworld interface that has taken place. 2013 saw two record-breaking asteroid events occur on the same day, February 15. The tip off here was that the two asteroids were completely unrelated, astronomically. The European Space Agency, among others, confirmed as much. The two asteroids, one 45-60 in diameter, the other 150 feet in diameter, just happened, the same day, that's all. What a “coincidence!”
The smaller asteroid exploded in the air over Russia causing perhaps one billion rubles worth of window damage and about 1,100 facial cuts of Russians standing anywhere near the shattering windows. Of the 1,158 people who applied for medical assistance, 52 were hospitalized, including 13 children. If the asteroid/bolide had held together for a few more seconds and thus exploded lower in the atmosphere it would have killed a million Russians. Although it was damn close, nobody died. Talk about precision!
The larger asteroid, called 2012 DA14, passed underneath Earth orbiting satellites to become the largest space rock that astronomers have ever known about in advance. As the name implies, asteroid 2012 DA14 was spotted in 2012, and was fully expected to pass by the Earth when it did; the smaller Chelyabinsk asteroid was a complete surprise, however, as it woke up the entire Ural Mountain region with a super-loud and bright flash-bang.
The fact that the two “unrelated” record-breaking asteroids should exert pressure on our world barely 16 hours apart could be coincidence, of course; so could the appearance and impact of “21″ (not 1, not 4, or 12 or 18) comets. On the other hand, they could be the only way ethical extraterrestrials allow themselves to communicate with our world. The technique certainly doesn't give away anything of strategic value, such as where they come from, where their “posts” are located, or how they are able to maintain their embargo and presence here without our detecting them.
But there are other excellent benefits to such an approach: they get to “control the verticle and the horizontal”, so to speak. SETI scientists, and therefore governments, would necessarily disavow any notion of asteroids being signals from ET. The notion is in no way “scientific”, after all. Besides, the pan-cultural belief in comets and firey rocks in the sky as “messages from the gods” comes to us from that soft academic area called history, and therefore can't possibly matter. What's more, the world was not substantively changed by the events. Aside from opening up the issue of large impacts, and except for some footnotes in future history and astronomy books, there was no interference in human history or worldviews, no DEFCON alerts, no panic in the streets, no possibility of government censure and propaganda, the latter because the events were made available to all mankind. In short, the status quo was maintained. And yet a human/ET interface did taken place. What a wonderful device, what a great little system!
Perhaps if we broadened our investigative approach and afforded ET the benefit of a doubt by listening to what they are saying by such incredibly unlikely and world-shaking events, we can make progress on the extra-terrestrial question. It's not about the cars, after all, its about what's in the mind of the entities allegedly inside them. On the other hand, we can continue to beat our heads against the brick wall of UFOs and get nowhere for another sixty-five years.
Earth has another close encounter with large asteroid by The Extinction Protocol February 18, 2014 – SPACE – An asteroid estimated to be the size of three football fields whizzed close to Earth on Monday, roughly a year after one exploded over Russia and injured 1,200 people. Slooh Space Camera tracked the approach of the asteroid as it raced past the planet at about 27,000 mph (43,000 kmph), starting at 9 p.m. EST (2 a.m. GMT, Feb. 18), the robotic telescope service said in a statement on Slooh.com. The Dubai Astronomy Group provided Slooh photos of the part of the sky where the rock was expected to be seen, but its motion could not be picked out immediately in a live webcast against the backdrop of night-time stars. The 295-yard (270-m) asteroid was streaking past Earth at a distance of about 2.1 million miles (3.4 million km) little more than a year after another asteroid exploded on Feb. 15, 2013, over Chelyabinsk, Russia. That asteroid injured 1,200 people following a massive shock wave that shattered windows and damaged buildings. Chelyabinsk region officials had wanted to mark the anniversary by giving a piece of the meteorite to each 2014 Winter Olympic athlete who won a medal on Saturday at the Sochi Games. However, the International Olympic Committee at the last minute said it could be done only after the games and separately. Slooh’s flagship observatory on Mount Teide in Spain’s Canary Islands was iced over and unable to be used for the 2000 EM26 viewing, Paul Cox, Slooh’s technical and research director, said on the one-hour webcast. “We continue to discover these potentially hazardous asteroids – sometimes only days before they make their close approaches to Earth,” Cox said in a statement before the show. He added, “We need to find them before they find us!”

Kostroma, Russia Date: May 23 1991 Time: after midnight Around midnight, the witness, Ipat Fedorovich (involved in numerous other encounters) suddenly awoke after hearing a sharp sibilant sound. Looking at the opened window he saw an “object” entered the room and land on the night table. The “object” resembled a small robot-like humanoid or a sophisticated toy. The height of the robotic figure was only about 15 cm and width about 10cm. It seemed to be multi-layered and emitted a light with all the colors of the rainbow, although blue and greenish predominated. A small glow was also observed briefly at the window. Meanwhile, the night visitor after staying on the table for about 30-40 seconds fell or jumped to the floor, executing this maneuver totally noiselessly. The multicolored glow now dimmed and Fedorovich arose from the bed and immediately looked around the table, but there was no trace of the “little fellow”. After this Fedorovich went immediately to sleep, in the morning he made a sketch of the strange robotic entity. (Above).
