Three UFOs Fall In China (video and photos)

Three UFOs fell from the sky to land in two different provinces in China. One UFO crashed into the Heilongjiang BAIQUAN Yian territory! another UFO crashed into the province Yian, Baiquan territory. According Yian Chang Meng village villagers, they first heard strange loud noise, and then they saw a big ball of fire across the sky falling in a farm owned by a village family. Government officials rushed to the scene to investigate the UFO.

The training portion of the show will include MUFON Chief Technical Adviser Chuck Modlin and STAR Team Manager Fletcher Gray. MUFON Georgia State Director Ralph Howard and MUFON Chief Photo Analyst Marc D'Antonio are also featured in the episode.

Communications Director Roger Marsh worked with both the CNN team and MUFON management and investigators to set up location shooting at multiple sites and to review current UFO sightings from around the country in search of good cases.

 

“Morgan's production team was very dedicated to finding the best cases,” Marsh said. “We were trying to find cases of interest and current cases both at the same time. Many functional directors, state directors and field investigators from MUFON were very involved in the selection process. A lot of people were involved who you won't see in the show.”

 

With an open mind, Spurlock steeps himself in the history, theories, and photographic evidence of UFO sightings, embedding himself at several MUFON locations and communicating with witnesses, conspiracy theorists and other interested parties to make his own determination as to whether or not we are truly alone in the universe.

Concernant Mars, la stratégie est de mettre en ligne la quasi-totalité des images brutes acquises par les sondes qui tournent autour de Mars ou les rovers qui gambadent sur sa surface. Ces images sont le plus souvent accompagnées des informations nécessaires pour les coloriser, les transformer en images anaglyphes ou les intégrer dans des panoramas. On se souvient que c’est un amateur, Bard Canning, qui a réalisé le film de l’atterrissage de Curiosity en haute définition. Il est parvenu à mettre bout à bout les images prises depuis le rover lors de son atterrissage sur Mars, le 6 août 2012, pour en faire un film si remarquable que la Nasa elle-même l’utilise dans sa communication. Même les communautés ufologiques et les adeptes des théories du complot en tout genre y trouvent leur compte. La recherche d’indices d’une forme de vie extraterrestre intelligente est ainsi grandement favorisée !

Les images de la Nasa pour une science à la portée de tous

Aujourd’hui, c’est un autre amateur qui se fait remarquer. Andrew Bodrov, photographe, a ainsi rassemblé près de 140 clichés acquis par Curiosity au cours d’une même journée pour réaliser un incroyable panorama autour du rover, qui illustre cet article. Ces images ont été acquises le 27 avril 2014 (sol 610) par la caméra Mastcam située sur le mât du rover.

Et le résultat vaut que l’on s’y attarde. La résolution est si fine que l’on peut voir de nombreux détails de la géologie du terrain comme les strates, les affleurements rocheux et autres roches de toutes formes, dont certaines sont rondes ! Un œil exercé remarquera même les différentes conditions de sédimentation.

Quant à Curiosity, il se situe près de la dalle de grès baptisée Windjana, où il vient de forer son troisième trou. Enfin, le rover apparaît étonnamment propre, très peu recouvert de poussière, et aucun équipement ou système apparent ne semble abîmé. Seule fausse note, les roues de Curiosity. Elles sont bien plus usées que prévu, mais leur état ne semble pas s’être aggravé depuis la découverte des premières perforations, en décembre 2013.

The UFO That Was an Alien

I have a very busy couple of weeks coming up and may not be able to post much here for a while. To hold you until I can get back to making regular posts I'll treat you to this fascinating case related to me by Turkish UFOlogist Esen Sekerkarar, one of the speakers at the UFO Symposium in which I recently took part.

I loved the story of the "Esme Alien" for a couple of reasons (and I can't thank Esen enough for sharing it with me). First, the alien entity is just ridiculously weird; a floating poached egg that is somehow creepy and cuddly at the same time. Second, the reaction of the witnesses is remarkable. Third, in this unique story the UFO and the entity are one and the same! How's that for efficiency?

Here, then, is the strange tale of the "Esme Alien":

The alien encounter incident took place in 2001. Three villagers; Fevzi Can, his wife Selma Can and their neighbour Aysel Topaloglu from Narli village in Esme district of the city Usak; woke up early in the morning to hoe their tobacco farm. It was about 7 in the morning. They got on the tractor, as they would always do, but on the way they saw something 30 cm. above the ground on a farm they were passing by. The thing was about 15 meters away from them.
First, they did nothing but kept on driving. But as they drove, the being started to follow them on the same direction, still keeping the 15 meters distance in between. That was when the villagers got puzzled and Fevzi Can stopped the tractor and got off it to look closer what that was. The being started to rise in the air and approached towards them. It stopped about 2 meters away from Mr. Can and hovered about 2,5 meters above the ground. The thing was completely silent. No wings or no propellers were apparent. There
wasn’t any noise of an engine either, but it was in the air. Mr. Can was astonished and confused by what he was looking at, so he thought of throwing a stone at it, thinking maybe he could drop it down and examine it closer. As soon as he had the thought of throwing a stone at it, the being started to rise in the air. Mr. Can threw a few stones at it, but all missed. The being rose about 5 meters then started to fly to the opposite side, all time facing the witnesses, and went away. 

The villagers told that the being they saw was about 60-70 cm. tall, wearing a bright, gelatin-like suit with an orangish, reddish bright light in the belly part. It had an elliptical head and red-coloured feet. It had no arms and the legs looked like to be attached to each other forming a V shape. It had no ears, no nose nor a mouth. According to the witnesses’ testimony; the only facial detail that was apparent was its almond shaped eyes, which seemed to be glued on the suit.

Right after the encounter, the villagers went to Mehmet Yildirim, the head official of the district, and told him about their encounter. Mr. Yildirim notified the governor Ayhan Cevik right away. A security meeting took place and the bulletin including a sketch of the alien was distributed to the head official of the district, security superiors and gendarme
commanders.

The combination UFO/entity was never seen again, which is remarkable when you consider the government's response to the report.
Can you imagine anyone in the US reporting that story to their local government official, then the local official reporting it to the governor, then the governor holding a security meeting, then alerting all the security personnel and gendarmes in the district to watch for a peculiar little floating entity in a gelatin suit who can predict when someone is about to throw a stone at it? My guess is that that would never happen in the US.

Okay, so now that you know the story, I can show you what the alien looked like:

In 1967 British astronomer Jocelyn Bell Burnell was left stunned by mysterious pulsing signals she detected coming from outside the solar system.

For months she suggested the signals could be of an extraterrestrial intelligent origin, but they were later proven to be rapidly spinning stars known as pulsars.

However, a new series of mysterious signals, known as Fast Radio Bursts (FRBs), has again got astronomers scratching their heads and wondering if, maybe, we’re picking up alien messages.

In 2007 a radio burst was picked up by astronomer Duncan Lorimer and his team. The origin of the signal could be colliding neutron stars or possibly an alien message. This image shows the dispersed signal from the original millisecond radio burst that suggests it must have originated billions of light-years away

FRBs are radio emissions that appear temporarily and randomly, making them not only hard to find, but also hard to study.

The mystery stems from the fact it is not known what could produce such a short and sharp burst.

This has led some to speculate they could be anything from stars colliding to artificially created messages.

The first FRB was spotted, or rather ‘heard’ by radio telescopes, back in 2007 - but it was so temporary and seemingly random that it took years for astronomers to even agree it wasn’t a glitch in one of the telescope's instruments.

The signal, which lasted just five milliseconds, was named the Lorimer burst after its discoverer, Duncan Lorimer.

The radio emission was so dispersed, experts suggested it must have come from a great distance away, possibly billions of light-years.

But early estimates said there should be 10,000 of these events a day – so the fact that another wasn’t discovered until 2012 was troubling.

This was when data from the Parkes Radio Telescope in Australia suggested it had heard another FRB, along with a handful of others, but the fact that only Parkes had detected the signals had some claiming these were merely instrument glitches.

A recent discovery, in April of this year, of an FRB using the giant radio dish in Puerto Rico confirmed to astronomers that these signals are indeed real – but they’re no closer to finding out an answer as to what they are.

Theories so far include flaring stars, white dwarfs merging, neutron stars colliding and – most intriguingly – alien signals.

A follow-up observation was made by the Parkes Radio Telescope, time-lapse photo shown, in 2012. However it was not until April of this year that the signal was ruled out as an instrument glitch when the Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico picked up a similar signal. Aside from the extraterrestrial origin explanation, another is that it could be caused by the collision of two neutron stars (artist's illustration shown). When neutron stars collide a black hole is normally formed, in addition to a magnetic field trillions of times stronger than that of Earth, in just two milliseconds

‘This extraordinary finding either indicates an as yet unknown or unusual astronomical phenomenon, or it could indicate that this is a vast alien communication network, and the universe is teeming with intelligent life forms,’ says Nigel Watson, author of the UFO Investigations Manual.

‘Every unusual signal from outer space encourages us to wonder if it is from an alien civilisation.

‘Since this signal seems so elusive and hard to interpret then this should be a candidate for further analysis.

‘It would be fantastic if this was an alien signal as the knowledge that we are not alone in this vast universe would have a dramatic impact on our perception of our place in the scheme of things.'

For now, however, FRBs remain very much a mystery.

It will take further studies and observations in future to truly determine where they come from, and what is causing them. Until then, it’s difficult to rule any particular theory out of the window.

ALIEN CRAFT CRASHES IN RUSSIA

JUNE 29,1986       DALNEGORSK RUSSIA

There’s this small mining town in Russia’s Far East called Dalnegorsk and on June 29, 1986 some strange stuff went down.  A UFO incident witnessed by a lot of people.  According to the Russian news agency Pravda, witnesses described a slowly moving (and bobbing up and down) large reddish sphere that slowly ascended and descended as it moved across a mountain range, and its glow would heat up every time it rose up.  As the UFO approached one mountain top (Mount Izvestkovaya, also referred to as Height 611) it sort of “jerked” and then crashed into the mountain. Witnesses reported seeing something like an explosion.  In the days after the “crash,” hundreds of witnesses said they saw three smaller spheres show up and began to act, at least to the witnesses, as if they were searching for the “crashed” sphere by doing slow sweeps over the area and sending down what appeared to be rays of light, sort of like search lights on an Army chopper.  After a while of searching, the three smaller spheres sped off and that was that.  Valeri Dvuzhilini of the Academy of (Soviet) Sciences was reportedly the first person (the first earth-born human, at least) to arrive on the scene two days later. 

  He collected samples (now referred to as alien artifacts) of what were described as strange, metallic mesh objects scattered at the site and samples of rocks and vegetation which had been scorched in the crash.  This incident is widely referred to as the “Russian Roswell,” referencing the famous alleged 1947 UFO crash near Roswell, New Mexico.  VIVA LAS VEGAS In the 1990′s Las Vegas reporter George Knapp traveled to the crash site to investigate the case and was given a few of the charred “rocks” (pieces of metal) that were found there.  A 2012 story in the Huffington Post says Knapp was told by the Ruskies:   “Three Soviet academic centers and 11 research institutes analyzed the objects from this UFO crash. The distance between atoms (in the found metal) is different from ordinary iron. Radar cannot be reflected from the material. Elements in the material may disappear and new ones appear after heating.  One piece disappeared completely in front of four witnesses. The core of the material is composed of a substance with anti-gravitational properties.”  Today you can see those pieces of UFO metal that were given to Knapp at the The National Atomic Testing Museum in Las Vegas, Nevada.  NOTE : The top image is a rendering.  The middle image is real.

Humanoid Incursion Reports 10

LEAP OF FAITH

Location: Putre, Chile – June 27-28, 1974

Young Bolivian student Lucio Quevedo Lazarte was sleeping in his room when a noise coming from the living room woke him up. Going to investigate he was confronted by a man with very short white hair, wearing a tight-fitting shiny black outfit that ended in a closed turtleneck. On his arm he wore a bracelet and his hands were enclosed in dark gloves. He also wore a strange metallic belt with several sphere and rhomboid shaped object clinging from it. Lucio at first thought that the stranger was a thief and begged him not to steal the curtains. The entity answered him by saying: “I could changed that what you call a curtain for something of more value.” At that moment the humanoid took out of his belt one of the rhomboid shaped objects and placed it in front of Lucio’s face, at this time Lucio lost consciousness. Later he woke up from a kind of trance and the stranger had already gone. He went back to bed and covered himself completely even though he was unable to sleep after that.

The next day, Lucio woke up in his bed stiff, pale and unable to move. A local police doctor attended to him and concluded that he had some type of virulent disease. He woke up around noon, seemingly returning to normal. Around 1500 he suddenly got up from bed and climbed up on top of a bunk and proceeded to jump out the window. His brother Julio saw him and ran quickly to assist him, but to his surprised he could not find Lucio anywhere, not a trace of him. The police were called and they searched for him throughout the afternoon.

Around 9:00 pm a scream was heard: “He is here!” Everyone ran to the location and found student Donato Perez on the ground with Lucio lying directly on top of him. Donato explained that he saw Lucio being accompanied by two men that upon seeing him dropped him to floor and vanished. Lucio’s clothing was dirty, and his shoes stained with grayish volcanic sand. During a medical examination it was discovered that his fingertips had triangular shaped scars on them. A couple of days later he was able to recall what happened and remembered that as he fell out of the window two short humanoids grabbed him and took him flying to the nearby Taapaca Volcano. There they entered a landed object and inside he saw additional humanoids (not described). Later the same 2 short humanoids took him back and that’s when Donato saw him arriving. In the area around the Volcano investigators found several ground traces.

ABDUCTION / REFUEL

Location: Iron Mountain, Michigan – 1972 – 10:50 pm

The witness was driving out of the parking lot of his foundry job when he noticed an object flying about 100 ft in the air above a junkyard. He noticed 4 lights, 2 red and 2 green. Suddenly it shot a bright beam down onto several of the wrecked cars in the junkyard, shut it off, and proceeded east repeating the same thing. The object then stops to hover above some trees and bushes. The witness drove closer to the object and realized it was a giant round disc shaped craft. There was a dome-like structure on the top with a giant pane of glass with 2 creatures standing. One pointed towards the witness car, turned to the other and immediately the glass was covered by some kind of barrier so it simply looked like a disc with a dome. The witness then stood directly under the object where he saw a mesmerizing red light that had an extremely tranquilizing effect on the witness. The underside of the object had a slight lip around the edge. Crisscrossing the belly were what appeared to be some kind of tubes or I-beams, which passed through to each of the lights resembling a “cross” or plus sign. Eventually, the witness heard a whine like an electric motor starting, and then silence set in. The lights then became more intense, while four globes beneath the object began to send off what looked like bolts of lightning. Out of nowhere and completely encircling the disc, came a coil, which looked like it was made up of overlapping scales, like fish scales, roughly spherical in shape and about 12 inches at the widest. The disc then rose cleared the top of the foundry roof and preceded slightly northeast, it momentarily turned its lights off as it glided across a street. The craft then stopped and disappeared. The witness then suddenly found himself back home.

Years later the witness remembered being lifted up on a beam of light and being inside of the disc. There he met the same two beings he had seen previously. One of the humanoids was about 4-½ ft tall, the other 4 ft. Their skin was kind of iridescent gray and they had large eyes, no ears, or mouth. They had 4 fingers on each hand with a tiny suction cup-like on each finger. Inside the object everything was metallic with sky-blue seat cushions. The humanoids seemed to lack what we would call substance, rather like a holographic image of one kind or another. He was told telepathically that they had needed electrons from the iron in the junked cars, which they needed as fuel. The witness could not remember how he left the object.

FROM INSIDE THE GLOBE

Location: Cincinnati, Ohio – October 2, 1966 – 8:20 pm

Mrs. Everett Steward was talking on the telephone when she smelled a foul odor in the room. She went to her bedroom, where she had a feeling of being watched. Looking out the window, she saw an oval shaped object with portholes & red, green, & white lights revolving around it. It was 75 ft in diameter & 100 ft up. She woke her husband, who also saw it, and called her married daughter, Mrs Janet Emery, a mile away; the Emerys also saw it, and a neighbor with binoculars could see that it had square windows glowing yellow. Janet went outdoors & saw the UFO eject a red ball, which maneuvered while the first UFO took off southward. The red ball flew 75-100 ft over Jane’s head; it was oval, and its underside was shiny like aluminum foil; it was “bigger than my cottage and yard combined.” She also smelled the garbage like odor.

Mrs. Steward went to bed, the odor still in the house. After some time, the room was filled for an instant with brilliant white light; then this vanished, and a globe of light about 21″ in diameter appeared at the foot of her bed. Inside this globe were 5 “non-human, hairless heads” with oval, sunken eyes. “Instead of noses, there were slits, and they had no mouths.” Telepathically, they repeated several times “We have made contact.” Mrs Steward screamed, and the globe disappeared. She was so disquieted by the experience that she was under psychiatric care for the next 2 years.

Location: South Dakota (no specific location) – November 30, 1994 – late night

The witness was returning home from her sister’s funeral and was very exhausted. She began to see shadows and movement on the road ahead and stopped at a rest area. She turned off the engine and layback to sleep. Her next memory was of looking down at herself in the car, her head was back, eyes shut and mouth wide open. She could see some type of craft next to the car and some beings were holding something that directed a beam of white light into her mouth. The beings spoke among themselves, saying, “That she had many lessons to learn.” The beings said that she had to get cancer, and kept repeating the phrases about “so many lessons to learn.” She found herself talking to a being that had soft tanned skin. The beings were humanoid with large eyes, but no hair. Next she found herself in the car and drove home arriving at 3:00 am. The witness did indeed develop breast cancer and was operated. She apparently recovered.

IT WALKED TOWARDS ME

Location: Southern Illinois – 3/1995 – 1:15 a,

I was on my way home from work driving down a country road with a gravel pit on one side, and forest on the other. In my headlights, I saw something in the clearing between the forest and the road. At first I thought it was a deer, I slowed down in case it started to run into the road. As I got closer, I noticed it was walking on two legs. My first thought at this point was that there was a car accident from up ahead, and this person was looking for help.

At first I was confused, an animal or person. As I approached and lowered my window, I realized that it was not a person or animal I got goosebumps which lasted for about 30 seconds. It stood as high as may car, it had a very thin body, covered in a white or semi-transparent material. The legs and arms were very thin and long. The head was slightly larger than a human, with black eyes, no nose, and a slit where the mouth would be. It moved in an erratic manner as it entered the road, then it turned, saw me and began walking toward my car with an almost spider-like walk.

When it got to within 5-7 feet on the driver’s side, I got really spooked, and drove away. As I drove away, I kept thinking that there was a car accident ahead. There was nothing, and that is the time I realized that something really weird was happening. For the next week I had a hard time making a logical decision as to what I had seen. I told my wife several days later, and she said that I had been acting different.

HUGE BLACK HUMAN-LIKE BIRD

Location: San Antonio, Texas – 4/19/2009 – evening

I was talking on my cell at the end of my sidewalk by the street when I turned around facing my house and saw this huge black human-like bird thing gliding without a noise coming from the east maybe the distance would be like three streets over but about maybe five blocks down.

When I saw this I was stunned and stared at it trying to figure out what it was and then I realized it wasn’t anything I’ve ever seen. I ran into the house and yelled at my husband and my grown son to get out here quick. They came but seemed like forever and they looked and saw it too. When they saw it the thing was like the a few streets over and then disappeared behind the big trees. When we saw it we all said that no one would believe us; but I have recently been talking about it because it has bothered me so much.

I’ve lived in this neighborhood all my life and I can remember three UFO sightings since I was five and all the sightings were in this neighborhood or around Stinson Field airport. I never came forward about them because people think you’ve lost your ever loving mind until recently when others I’ve spoke with shared their experiences. I have other stories but this one is the most recent and I was wondering if anyone has ever seen this thing. It is silent like it was a glider but I could see the body was exactly like a man a very large man.

Strange Lights Near the Pig Pen

My wife and I own about fifty acres of land along a creek. Most of it is wooded. About a quarter of a mile back from my house up by the road. We have a pig pen with three small pigs. My wife decided to put a game camera up to watch the pigs. There is a roadway we put in that takes you to the pig pen and a lot further back. One day she checked the camera chip and found strange lights beaming down or up – question. I put the picture on my lap top. I can pick out seven to eight lights on a angle from the north. Only one picture was snapped of big and small lights around the pigs house. I have no clue of what made these lights. The picture was taken on 04/15/2014 at 10:55 pm. the night of the blood moon. The moon as far as I know was not north west of camera I did some research and came up with nothing to help me find the source. We will keep camera set up and maybe put more up. We have a cabin and house trailer Further back to the west. we spend a great deal of time out there night and day. I want to stay out there at night but the picture has me abet rattled. And if I do I will be somewhat on edge. But I will be armed with light, camera and protection. If you can shed some light on this or need more info please let me know. – MUFON CMS

Walking Cabbages

Teenagers in China have taken to walking cabbages as a way to get over depression and loneliness.

The youngsters are able to meet other people who also walk the green foods.

Chinese psychiatrist Wen Chao said: ‘The idea is simple – you feel as lonely and as simple as a cabbage, so you begin to act like one and befriend one.

‘And in that acceptance comes change.’

The sight of people pulling cabbages down the street has surprised many, but Lui Ja Chen, 17, defended the pastime and said it had helped him.

‘I feel I can transfer my negative thoughts about myself to the cabbage, go for a walk with it and come home feeling better about myself.

‘If I see someone else its easy to start up a conversation with them about their cabbage, and they are better than dogs as they don’t bark, or start fights with other cabbages, it doesn’t even need feeding, or leave a mess on the pavement.

‘In fact afterwards, I can throw the cabbage away and feel that I have tossed my feelings out with it.’ – Newsbite

Family of five hit by lightning strike

Five members of the same family were struck by a bolt from the blue while out in their garden.

They say lightning never strikes twice, yet in the case of one family living in the German city of Chemnitz, it didn’t need to. A freak lightning strike in the otherwise safe haven of their back yard sent a nine-year-old boy, his grandmother, his aunt, his mother and his two siblings to hospital.

One of the family, Ricarda, had been chopping wood when the incident happened. As it started to rain she got up to take in the garden furniture when she felt what she described as “a tingling sensation from head to toe.” As she came to her senses she realized that she must have been struck by a bolt of lightning and that she had not been the only one affected.

“There was chaos,” she said. “Everybody was just acting on autopilot. A few minutes later the ambulance arrived.” Her nine-year-old nephew stopped breathing and had to be resuscitated before being rushed to intensive care. The others were taken to hospital as well to be treated but only suffered comparatively minor injuries.

More than 24,000 people are killed and a further 240,000 injured every year by lightning strikes.

Pregnant woman in Sudan sentenced to death for being a Christian

On Thursday a Sudan court sentenced an eight-months pregnant woman to death by hanging because she practices Christianity. Meriam Yehya Ibrahim, 27, has refused to recant her faith despite given the opportunity to in order to save her life.

“I am a Christian,” she defiantly told the Khartoum court. “And I will remain a Christian.”

Sharia law finds pregnant woman guilty

However, Sharia law, the predominant law in the country, says she is Muslim because her father was Muslim. But he left when Ibrahim was six and her mother raised her a Christian. Sharia law does not recognize that and the court ruled that because Ibrahim practices the Christian faith she is guilty of being an apostate, one who has renounced her faith.

To make this case all the more astonishing she has also been found guilty of adultery. This is because her husband, Daniel Wani, is Christian also. Here Sharia law says that being a Muslim (which of course she does not consider herself to be) she cannot marry anyone but another Muslim, and therefore her marriage is void. As a result, she’s been sentenced to 100 lashes for the crime of adultery.

Her lawyer, Mohamed Jar Elnabi, says she is having a difficult pregnancy but officials won’t let her move to a hospital. Her 20-month-old son is with her in prison and, her lawyer said, is not handling the situation well.

Further, Ibrahim’s husband, Wani, is in a wheelchair and having difficulty without his wife. He says he is praying for her and he can do little else, he was not acknowledged by the court and was forbidden to attend court proceedings. “I’m so frustrated. I don’t know what to do,” Wani told CNN. “I’m just praying.”

Lawyer to appeal Sharia law verdict

Elnabi will appeal but did not say on what grounds. Human rights groups have decried the ruling and, along with the Sudanese embassies of many countries, including the U.S. and Canada, are appealing to the government to respect religious freedom. And some 50 protesters bravely attended outside the sentencing, carrying placards, some of which noted that the constitution allows people to practice religions other than Muslim.

Finally, Elnabi has received a death threat by telephone, telling him to abandon the case or he will be killed. He told media he is scared but that it is a case of principles and he would never quit defending his client.

“I must help someone who is in need,” he said. “Even if it will cost me my life.” – Digital Journal

Australian Museum opens archives to show off weird and wonderful

Staff at the Australian Museum have thrown open the vaults, trawling through an 18-million-strong collection of exhibits for new displays.

Just weeks into the job and the museum’s new director, Kim McKay, is overhauling the long gallery at the heart of the centre, taking it back to its roots.

“We’re seeing this trend all over the world to start to style the museum as it probably was originally, bring out these collections, place them with other objects which are quite contrary to them, and so that you can have your own modern interpretation,” she said.

The search is on to find the must-see pieces tucked away in the museum’s expansive archives.

Rather than have them filtered off into designated displays, they will be thrown in together as a collection of curiosities.

For Mrs McKay, finding the treasures has been half the fun.

“I’m like the proverbial kid in the candy store here. We’ve got amazing creatures everything from tape worms to scorpions and extraordinary spiders.”

Fish research dries up

Some of the most bizarre creatures have been found in the museum’s fish archives.

Mark McGrouther manages the collection of 1.8 million fish, including everything from the deep sea blobfish, made famous in the movie Men in Black 3, and the severed head of a rare goblin shark.

“Having collections of all sorts of animal groups is really, really important,” he said.

“We have not only a baseline now, but we have records that go back over 100 years. We can look at distribution and distributional changes.”

The division functions like a library, loaning fish to researchers around the world, but its own research has dried up.

Mr McGrouther says it is concerning that 15 years ago there were three fish researchers at the Australian Museum but now there are none.

“With climate change we’re seeing now all kinds of different distributional changes, range extensions, fishes coming further down the east Australian coast,” he said.

“A good example is the NSW fish emblem, the blue groper. The blue groper is now found in Tasmania, previously unrecorded in Tasmania. That just reflects those warming currents that are coming down.”

He says turning these problems around will take money.

Pop-up museums may help to generate revenue

It is a tough ask in tight fiscal times but Mrs McKay says reinvigorating the museum will drive up public interest and revenue.

“The Australian Museum Research Institute does have a staff of around 80 to 90 researchers and scientists working, so it’s a significant institute and we’ve got to look at where we put our emphasis in the future to meet the demands of research,” she said.

In round table meetings all staff are getting involved, putting forward ideas for research, display and community outreach priorities.

Dion Peita from the museum’s Pacific collections says it is an opportunity for innovation.

“I want to see greater diversity in our program delivery that’s both onsite as well as offsite, so having a new director, having new ideas, being bold and stepping forward I think will only benefit the entire institution,” he said.

Mr Peita is pushing for more pop-up museums, taking sample displays to western Sydney and beyond.

He says it will also help bridge the cultural gap experienced by young Pacific Islanders.

“They’re disconnected from culture. They may not have the identity that they once had or their parents have so it was about establishing a way in which culture could be a platform to strengthen their self-esteem,” he said. – Yahoo

Military Helicopter Observed Chasing UFO – Vancouver, WA

Carey Hicks was standing in his driveway in Vancouver’s Fruit Valley neighborhood Wednesday night when he saw something odd and scary streak through the sky.

It was a helicopter chasing a small craft, possibly an orb, that was highly maneuverable, he said.

It was a smaller craft with a large military helicopter following it, Hicks said. It flew over two or three times.

He said he saw the craft, which he described as a ball of light, fly over his neighborhood toward Vancouver Lake at about 10 p.m. or 10:30 p.m.

Allen Kenitzer, a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration, said there were some military exercises on Wednesday night for the Oregon National Guard, but they involved F-15s and not helicopters, as far as he knows.

We have no reports of any UFOs, Kenitzer said. But there has been some military activity.

Kama Simonds, a spokeswoman for the Port of Portland, said the port was working on emergency preparedness drills Thursday, but there was nothing happening at the Port at the time Hicks said the incident happened.

It had nothing to do with the drill, Simonds said.

I can’t tell you how many similar reports I’ve had of aircraft chasing anomalous objects, he said.

Some Columbian readers also reported seeing what appeared to be a pair of Apache helicopters at the same spot, Hicks noted, but as of late Thursday none said they saw the aircraft chasing an orb.

I heard the helicopter noise last night, just got into bed in the Lakeshore neighborhood, reader Tom Heller said in an email. It sounded maybe like a military Apache but not like the Coast Guard Sikorsky helicopters. It seemed to be loud and then quiet, like it was a maneuver. I assumed it was a rescue of some kind or a military exercise from the Portland air base.

Other readers suggested the object could have been a drone.

Hicks said he just wants to know more about the incident.

You could just really hear the rumbling of the helicopter, Hicks said. It was freaky. It was scary. It made your heart pound.

He said he has no idea what the object, which looked a bit like a star, was.

I dont want to say aliens, Hicks said. It could be something from another country. But they were chasing something and they were following it around. It was outmaneuvering the helicopter pretty good. The light would just shut off, then come back on around the other side of it.

He said his neighbor and his neighbors daughter saw it as well.

The object was about 500 feet off the ground, he added.

NOTE: There have been no reports made with MUFON or NUFORC as of this morning. This location is north of the Columbia River / Portland, OR….traditionally a hotspot for UFO sightings. I’m going to keep an eye on any reported activity in the general area…Lon
