Het is een lief, aanhankelijk hondje, dat zich op een week snel aan ons heeft aangepast. Ze is heel vinnig en nieuwsgierig, een heel ander hondje dan Noleke.

Draagbare onderzeeër gaat op jacht naar 2000 jaar oude computer
Een duiker daalt later dit jaar in een speciaal pak af naar een oud Grieks schip, in een poging het raadsel rond het mechanisme van Antikythera te ontrafelen. Het zeer geavanceerde duikerspak zal worden gebruikt om te zoeken naar één van de oudste computers ter wereld.
Het zogeheten exopak, dat doet denken aan de film Iron Man, stelt duikers in staat te opereren tot een diepte van 300 meter. Eerder deze maand is het pak getest in de Verenigde Staten. Voor de kust van het Griekse eiland Antikythera in de Egeïsche Zee ligt een oud Romeins scheepswrak. Honderd jaar geleden werd in dat wrak de oudste computer ter wereld gevonden: het mechanisme van Antikythera. Men hoopt in september een tweede exemplaar te vinden.
Zeearcheologen gebruiken normaal gesproken een duikuitrusting voor werkzaamheden onder het wateroppervlak, maar de tijd dat duikers op grote diepte kunnen doorbrengen is beperkt vanwege de gevaren van decompressieziekte. Voor diepe wrakken hebben onderzoekers onderwaterrobots die zijn voorzien van camera’s en sonarapparatuur.
Met het exopak kan een duiker langere tijd onder water werken, waardoor de kans groter wordt dat er meer artefacten en meer informatie over het mysterieuze mechanisme worden gevonden. Het exopak is ontworpen door Nuytco en is gebaseerd op het Newtsuit, dat in 1987 is gemaakt.
Het nieuwe pak is 113 tot 159 kilogram lichter dan het Newtsuit. Het heeft genoeg zuurstof voor 50 uur en beschikt over geavanceerde communicatiesystemen. Een HD-camera stuurt de beelden via een glasvezelkabel naar het oppervlak. De aandrijving geschiedt via pedalen, zodat de duiker zijn handen vrijhoudt om andere taken te verrichten.
A husband and wife in the Lincolnshire, England city of Lincoln were watching the skies for the International Space Station (ISS) on the night of Thursday, June 5. But the couple’s sky watching turned out to be more exciting than they had anticipated when a UFO appeared in the sky.

This couple was reportedly gazing skyward around 10:00 p.m. The wife, Gail Phillips, explained to the Lincolnshire Echo that they spotted the ISS, but then they noticed a UFO just hovering in the sky. She explains, “We watched it for about 30 seconds before we thought we would record it . . . We thought it was too dark to be a remote helicopter and then it started to move backwards which was a little strange.”
The movement of the UFO is strange, but does resemble that of a remote-controlled craft equipped with lights for night flights. But it is unknown if that is what the witnesses actually saw above Lincoln.

My son was walking home from school on Monday 2nd June 2014 in the vicinity of Eascote near Pinner (North West London). As he walked passed a man and a small girl walking in the opposite direction to him he noticed an object in the sky. My son observed that the object was a disc shaped and hovering just below cloud level at a distance of up to half a mile from him. He was at first confused by what he was looking at as it did not resemble a conventional aircraft. He turned around to see if the man had seen it too but the man and the small child had already walked around the corner on to the next street. The time was 4:17 pm. My son then observed the gray disc-shaped object as it maintained a hovering but stationary position. He described seeing the underbelly of the object and the rim of the object for some 10 to 15 seconds. He later pointed out to me that it must have been a fairly large object as he estimated it to be at least half a mile away. He took a photograph of the object with his smart phone camera and continued to look at the disc. My son then observed that the craft then started to change its colour by blotching different areas of its undercarriage to match the cloud around it. He observed this change of colour for up to seven seconds before the craft completely disappeared from view. At no time during this transformation did the craft move position and neither did it make a sound that he could detect. My son said that he had the distinct impression that the craft was still there but had somehow cleverly masked itself to the naked eye. Upon witnessing the disappearance but feeling it was still present my son become scared. He rang his mother to tell her what he had seen and then ran the rest of the way home.

NASA’s flying saucer-shaped test vehicle is ready to take to the skies from the U.S. Navy’s Pacific Missile Range Facility in Kauai, Hawaii, for its first engineering shakeout flight.
The first launch opportunity for the test vehicle is June 3, when the launch window opens at 8:30 a.m. HST. The test will be carried live on NASA TV and streamed on the Web. The Low Density Supersonic Decelerator (LDSD) will gather data about landing heavy payloads on Mars and other planetary surfaces.
The agency is moving forward and getting ready for Mars as part of NASA's Evolvable Mars campaign," said Michael Gazarik, associate administrator for Space Technology at NASA Headquarters in Washington. "We fly, we learn, we fly again. We have two more vehicles in the works for next year."
As NASA plans increasingly ambitious robotic missions to Mars, laying the groundwork for even more complex human science expeditions to come, accommodating extended stays for explorers on the Martian surface will require larger and heavier spacecraft.
The objective of the LDSD project is to see if the cutting-edge, rocket-powered test vehicle operates as it was designed -- in near-space at high Mach numbers.
"After years of imagination, engineering and hard work, we soon will get to see our Keiki o ka honua, our 'boy from Earth,' show us its stuff," said Mark Adler, project manager for the Low Density Supersonic Decelerator at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, California. "The success of this experimental test flight will be measured by the success of the test vehicle to launch and fly its flight profile as advertised. If our flying saucer hits its speed and altitude targets, it will be a great day."
The way NASA's saucer climbs to test altitude is almost as distinctive as the test vehicle itself.
"We use a helium balloon -- that, when fully inflated, would fit snugly into Pasadena's Rose Bowl -- to lift our vehicle to 120,000 feet," said Adler. "From there we drop it for about one and a half seconds. After that, it's all about going higher and faster -- and then it's about putting on the brakes."
A fraction of a second after dropping from the balloon, and a few feet below it, four small rocket motors will fire to spin up and gyroscopically stabilize the saucer. A half second later, a Star 48B long-nozzle, solid-fueled rocket engine will kick in with 17,500 pounds of thrust, sending the test vehicle to the edge of the stratosphere.
"Our goal is to get to an altitude and velocity which simulates the kind of environment one of our vehicles would encounter when it would fly in the Martian atmosphere," said Ian Clark, principal investigator of the LDSD project at JPL. "We top out at about 180,000 feet and Mach 4. Then, as we slow down to Mach 3.8, we deploy the first of two new atmospheric braking systems."
The project management team decided also to fly the two supersonic decelerator technologies that will be thoroughly tested during two LDSD flight tests next year.
If this year's test vehicle flies as expected, the LDSD team may get a treasure-trove of data on how the 6-meter supersonic inflatable aerodynamic decelerator (SIAD-R) and the supersonic parachute operate a full year ahead of schedule.
The SIAD-R, essentially an inflatable doughnut that increases the vehicle's size and, as a result, its drag, is deployed at about Mach 3.8. It will quickly slow the vehicle to Mach 2.5 where the parachute, the largest supersonic parachute ever flown, first hits the supersonic flow. About 45 minutes later, the saucer is expected to make a controlled landing onto the Pacific Ocean off Hawaii.
NASA TV will carry live images and commentary of LDSD engineering test. The test vehicle itself carries several onboard cameras. It is expected that video of selected portions of the test, including the rocket-powered ascent, will be downlinked during the commentary. Websites streaming live video of the test include:
NASA's Space Technology Mission Directorate in Washington funds the LDSD mission, a cooperative effort led by JPL. NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, manages LDSD within the Technology Demonstration Mission Program Office. NASA's Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia is coordinating support with the Pacific Missile Range Facility and providing the balloon systems for the LDSD test.

A Canadian witness at Abbotsford, British Columbia, recalled a frightening experience with a silent, egg-shaped object that hovered nearby for three minutes before moving away at “warp drive,” according to June 6, 2014, testimony in Case 56883 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.
The events occurred in May 1975 as the reporting witness and a friend were walking home as they reached the crest of a hill facing north at the Sumas Mt. Road and Dawson Road intersection.

“As we crested this hill I noticed an object out of the corner of my eye,” the witness stated. “And as I looked to the west I saw this object – soft yellow – moving toward us. We stood there for about two minutes as it slowly moved toward us – arguing as to what it might be.”
The two quickly ruled out an airplane as it was moving too slow or a helicopter because it was not making any sound.

“Well it keeps coming closer. Now keep in mind on Sumas Mountain at night if a neighbor dropped a tire iron the whole mountain top would hear it. This hill before the four corners is like a knoll where you could see back and then clearly to the west, north and clearly to the east.”
Then the object stopped directly in front of them and the two froze.
“I could hear my heart pounding in my chest. The vessel hovered for around three minutes. Then it starts to leave slowly at first. Then it went into like a warp drive. As it rose up the eastern mountain side it maintained the level of a plane. It seemed like it used the side of the mountain as a launch ramp.”
The witness described the object.
“It was egg-shaped but with a substantially flattened bottom – no visible ports or windows – no sound – not a wisp – no visible exhaust. Also it was the size of a small house – 30 to 50 feet in diameter.”
The object left a trail as it moved away.
“We lost sight as it hyper-drove into the night starlit sky. It actually left a steak of light and then went blink – like a star – and turned off.”

In other Canadian news, a witness reported a sphere-shaped object hovering in the clouds near St. Caltharines, Ontario, about 3:20 p.m. on June 6, 2014, in Case 56884.

At the time I took the photos I had no idea there would be an object flying near the jets. It was not until I looked at the photos in the evening that I had captured something that was not US Military. I was a little kid growing up in a small town in New Jersey. It was 1973 and I was 6 or 7 at the time. I really liked going outside like the rest of my generation at the time. I loved to go camping in the Pine Barrens since that was the only forest I lived near. My two brothers and I went camping on June 16th 1973 in the Pine Barrens. On the first night we put up our tents, got firewood from our house and setup our campfire. At night we lit the campfire, cooked marshmallows and sausages then we ate them. We got in our tents and slept until the sun rose from the horizon marking dawn. We then decided all three of us should go hiking and explore the damp forest from the morning dew. We would leave tiny bits of sprinkles to mark were we walked so we don’t get lost. After the two hour hike and finding random carcass’ of deer all over the forest for some odd reason. We got back to camp and once we laid eyes on our camp we saw that our camped was destroyed and wrecked. There were claw marks on our tents, and the food was all scavenged and gone. We thought it was a bear that got to our campsite but then I noticed that the claw marks on our tents were too big to be a bear’s. My brother thought it was the Jersey Devil. New evidence seems to confirm that the Earth was once impacted by a planet known as Theia.
It has long been believed that the Moon came in to being when a large planetary body struck the Earth billions of years ago and now scientists believe that they’ve found the clearest evidence yet that this event actually took place.
Traces of another planet have been found within the samples of lunar rock brought back by the astronauts during the Apollo Moon landings, a world that has been nicknamed Theia after the Goddess of Greek mythology.
This early world would have disintegrated on impact, with some of the material coalescing to form the Moon and the rest becoming part of the Earth.

Two Whitehall residents say they’re finding gold flakes in their tap water and that it’s raising concerns about what else might be in the water.
Whitehall is about 25 miles southeast of Butte in Jefferson County. The town gets its drinking water from two wells — one off Division Street and another a half block east of Whitehall Street. Both wells are right in the middle of town.
NBC Montana was in Whitehall today and saw firsthand gold flakes coming from the faucet.
Mark Brown told us his wife Sharon was finishing up the dishes earlier this week when she noticed something unusual.
Brown explained, “She had pulled the plug to let the water out and there were glistening, gleaming little flecks.”
They showed us what they found — small gold-colored flakes, right in the bottom of the sink.
Brown recalled their disbelief, “That couldn’t possibly be gold, huh? And I was sure it wasn’t.”
He showed us how they are finding the flakes in their tap water and also the toilet tank. They ran multiple tests on the flakes and found one of the most precious metals on earth — gold — was coming out of the tap. Read more at NBCMontana
A North Carolina witness at Tarboro reported multiple sightings of a silent, capsule-shaped object that appeared and disappeared at the tree top level, according to June 6, 2014, testimony in Case 56881 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.
“The silver, capsule shape looked to be smaller than a bus, just stayed over the trees for seconds and disappeared while I was watching it,” the witness stated. “No noise.”

The witness was driving about 1 p.m. in February 2014 when the object was first seen. The exact date was not indicated in the MUFON report.
“I stopped to look at it. I saw the same object three times in February within a two-week period. All three sightings were in approximately a one square mile area.”
The witness described the object.
“It did not ascend or descend. It just disappeared. It was shiny like a piece of aluminum foil and had no windows or doors – just solid and shiny.”

North Carolina MUFON is investigating. Tarboro is a city in Edgecombe County, NC, population 13,121. North Carolina has a current UFO Alert Rating of 3 with a high number of recent reports nationally. North Carolina had 25 UFO reports in May 2014 – the 7th highest reporting state – while California had 102 reports as the highest reporting state. The above quotes were edited for clarity. Reports are coming in of a bright star moving west across Pembrokeshire. At Approx 11.05 pm a large bright star was seen moving over Haverfordwest and heading West. Witness accounts have also seen the Object travelling over Narberth, Whitland and also Swansea. Smaller star like lights have been seen to approach the larger one and make circular flight patterns around it and then fly off at speed.
The Paranormal Chronicles have checked the ISS (International space station) Tracker and the space station has passed over Pembrokeshire tonight and we are trying to confirm the exact time the station passed over the region. Reports suggest it was too bright and large to be a Chinese lantern and the object made “drastic” course changes. No sound was heard coming from the object. The smaller lights “Buzzing” it have not been identified as of yet.
We ask that people West from Pembrokeshire, Wales to please look outside to see if you can capture any images of the object.

Woodrow Derenberger was driving his panel truck home in Mineral Wells West Virginia and was rearing the state Route 47 exit when he noticed a metallic gray object resting on the highway in front of him. He later described it as being somewhat similar to “the shape of a gl…ass chimney of an old fashioned kerosene lamp lying on its side with a dome-like top.” One peculiar aspect of the craft was that it did not touch the ground, but floated eight to ten inches above the road. Derenberger claimed that a tall man climbed out of the hovering craft and started walking toward his truck. As the stranger approached, the alien craft immediately climbed into the air to a height of approximately 50 feet. The man appeared to be between 35 and 40 years old. He was fairly tall, and looked as if he weighed about 185 pounds. He had a dark complexion and dark brown hair that was combed straight back. His dark and shimmering clothing was covered partially by some sort of overcoat. The stranger reassured Derenberger that he would not be harmed and not to be frightened—but oddly, his lips were not moving at all. The peculiar looking man was apparently communicating telepathically. (Although this is rather common in contemporary Contactee accounts, a statement such as this was not usually associated with UFO cases of the time.) After introducing himself as “Indrid Cold,” the visitor said that he was from “a country less powerful” than the United States. Cold held a lengthy conversation with Derenberger, discussing topics such as politics, West Virginia climate, and family ties. All the while the visitor flashed a beaming smile, keeping his arms crossed with his hands under his armpits. This was a bit distracting at first, but no more so than conducting a conversation with somebody who did not move his lips when he spoke. At the end of the conversation, Cold told Derenberger that “at a correct and proper time, all of this would be revealed.” The visitor then turned away from the truck and walked back to the craft, which by this time had once again settled to its former position. Derenberger claimed that he saw the arm of an unseen second occupant appear from the doorway of the craft to help Cold in. The object then flew away at an incredible rate of speed. As soon as the UFO was out of sight Derenberger started his vehicle and traveled—also at a fabulous rate of speed—directly home. After calming down and explaining his unbelievable experience to his wife and children, Derenberger called the authorities and the local media. Derenberger pointed out that Indrid Cold repeated to following sentence to him several times, “We eat, breathe, and sleep, and bleed even as you do” “We wish you no harm. We wish you nothing but happiness.”

Two men traveling by car on highway 77 watched an elongated object descend from the sky directly in front of their vehicle. They stopped the car and saw a man emerged from the object and walk over to them. The man was human looking and was grinning broadly. He was wearing a black coat and kept his arms folded out of sight under his armpits. The black-garbed stranger asked them several pointless questions before returning to the dark cylinder shaped craft, which quickly rose and disappeared into the sky. This incident occurred on the same night as the Woodrow Derenberger contact-landing case in the same general area.

My boyfriend and I got home to LA from Fresno, and we were unpacking our stuff from the car. Across the street I noticed two men walking. On…e was taller than the other by a lot, and he was walking weird. I thought maybe he was injured or something because he seemed kind of off balance. Then I noticed the hat he was wearing, which kind of look like a Spanish black hat. I’ll put up a picture of the type of hat I’m talking about. Skin showed on the back of his neck and it was chalk white. It kind of almost glowed in a way because it was so white. He was wearing an all black suit, but looked awkward in it because it looked like he didn’t fit in it very well (he was too skinny, but he had very broad shoulders). He was also wearing sunglasses. The shorter man he was walking with was dressed casual and was wearing jeans and a striped shirt. It looked like he was escorting the tall man almost like a bodyguard. I thought at first maybe he was one of the Men in Black, but decided against it since the tall man was being escorted by a Human ( I assume at least) somewhere, and there wasn’t two men in black suits. Then the Tall Whites came into mind, and I got so excited. Right when I thought that, the tall man looked directly at me. I lost control. I honestly did. I started screaming and clung to my boyfriend shaking his arm vigorously exclaiming, “IT’S A TALL WHITE! IT’S A TALL WHITE!” The shorter man started to look at me now, and then the tall man quickly looked away and they picked up their pace to this building. I kept screaming saying, “I love you! I love you so much! I want your babies!” I started to run across the street towards them, and my boyfriend stopped me midway and the short man seemed to be shaking as he was trying to get the keys to unlock the door. I saw that the tall man was smiling almost laughing and he took one last look at me before he went into the building. I’m not sure if he really was a tall white, but I sure hope it was Oh my God! In light of the controversial Discovery Channel show Russian Yeti: The Killer Lives there have been other accounts of aggressive Bigfoot. One of those incidents was dictated by Teddy Roosevelt in his 1893 book The Wilderness Hunter where he recalled a story involving an old mountain hunter named Bauman:
“Frontiersmen are not, as a rule, apt to be very superstitious.
They lead lives too hard and practical, and have too little imagination in things spiritual and supernatural.
I have heard but few ghost stories while living on the frontier, and those few were of a perfectly commonplace and conventional type. But I once listened to a goblin-story, which rather impressed me.
A grizzled, weather beaten old mountain hunter, named Bauman who, born and had passed all of his life on the Frontier, told it the story to me. He must have believed what he said, for he could hardly repress a shudder at certain points of the tale; but he was of German ancestry, and in childhood had doubtless been saturated with all kinds of ghost and goblin lore. So that many fearsome superstitions were latent in his mind; besides, he knew well the stories told by the Indian medicine men in their winter camps, of the snow-walkers, and the specters, [spirits, ghosts & apparitions] the formless evil beings that haunt the forest depths, and dog and waylay the lonely wanderer who after nightfall passes through the regions where they lurk. It may be that when overcome by the horror of the fate that befell his friend, and when oppressed by the awful dread of the unknown, he grew to attribute, both at the time and still more in remembrance, weird and elfin traits to what was merely some abnormally wicked and cunning wild beast; but whether this was so or not, no man can say.
When the event occurred, Bauman was still a young man, and was trapping with a partner among the mountains dividing the forks of the Salmon from the head of Wisdom River. Not having had much luck, he and his partner determined to go up into a particularly wild and lonely pass through which ran a small stream said to contain many beaver.
The pass had an evil reputation because the year before a solitary hunter who had wandered into it was slain, seemingly by a wild beast, the half eaten remains being afterwards found by some mining prospectors who had passed his camp only the night before.
The memory of this event, however, weighted very lightly with the two trappers, who were as adventurous and hardy as others of their kind. They took their two lean mountain ponies to the foot of the pass where they left them in an open beaver meadow, the rocky timber-clad ground being from there onward impracticable for horses.
They then struck out on foot through the vast, gloomy forest, and in about four hours reached a little open glade where they concluded to camp, as signs of game were plenty. There was still an hour or two of daylight left, and after building a brush lean-to and throwing down and opening their packs, they started upstream.
The country was very dense and hard to travel through, as there was much down timber, although here and there the somber woodland was broken by small glades of mountain grass. At dusk they again reached camp. The glade in which it was pitched was not many yards wide, the tall, close-set pines and firs rising round it like a wall. On one side was a little stream, beyond which rose the steep mountains slope, covered with the unbroken growth of evergreen forest.
They were surprised to find that during their absence something, apparently a bear, had visited camp, and had rummaged about among their things, scattering the contents of their packs, and in sheer wantonness destroying their lean-to. The footprints of the beast were quite plain, but at first they paid no particular heed to them, busying themselves with rebuilding the lean-to, laying out their beds and stores and lighting the fire.
While Bauman was making ready supper, it being already dark, his companion began to examine the tracks more closely, and soon took a brand from the fire to follow them up, where the intruder had walked along a game trail after leaving the camp. When the brand flickered out, he returned and took another, repeating his inspection of the footprints very closely. Coming back to the fire, he stood by it a minute or two, peering out into the darkness, and suddenly remarked, “Bauman, that bear has been walking on two legs.”
Bauman laughed at this, but his partner insisted that he was right, and upon again examining the tracks with a torch, they certainly did seem to be made by but two paws or feet. However, it was too dark to make sure. After discussing whether the footprints could possibly be those of a human being, and coming to the conclusion that they could not be, the two men rolled up in their blankets, and went to sleep under the lean-to. At midnight Bauman was awakened by some noise, and sat up in his blankets. As he did so his nostrils were struck by a strong, wild-beast odor, and he caught the loom of a great body in the darkness at the mouth of the lean-to. Grasping his rifle, he fired at the vague, threatening shadow, but must have missed, for immediately afterwards he heard the smashing of the under wood as the thing, whatever it was, rushed off into the impenetrable blackness of the forest and the night.
After this the two men slept but little, sitting up by the rekindled fire, but they heard nothing more. In the morning they started out to look at the few traps they had set the previous evening and put out new ones. By an unspoken agreement they kept together all day, and returned to camp towards evening. On nearing it they saw, hardly to their astonishment that the lean-to had again been torn down. The visitor of the preceding day had returned, and in wanton malice had tossed about their camp kit and bedding, and destroyed the shanty. The ground was marked up by its tracks, and on leaving the camp it had gone along the soft earth by the brook. The footprints were as plain as if on snow, and, after a careful scrutiny of the trail, it certainly did seem as if, whatever the thing was, it had walked off on but two legs.
The men, thoroughly uneasy, gathered a great heap of dead logs and kept up a roaring fire throughout the night, one or the other sitting on guard most of the time. About midnight the thing came down through the forest opposite, across the brook, and stayed there on the hillside for nearly an hour. They could hear the branches crackle as it moved about, and several times it uttered a harsh, grating, long-drawn moan, a peculiarly sinister sound. Yet it did not venture near the fire. In the morning the two trappers, after discussing the strange events of the last 36 hours, decided that they would shoulder their packs and leave the valley that afternoon. They were the more ready to do this because in spite of seeing a good deal of game sign they had caught very little fur. However it was necessary first to go along the line of their traps and gather them, and this they started out to do. All the morning they kept together, picking up trap after trap, each one empty. On first leaving camp they had the disagreeable sensation of being followed. In the dense spruce thickets they occasionally heard a branch snap after they had passed; and now and then there were slight rustling noises among the small pines to one side of them.
At noon they were back within a couple of miles of camp. In the high, bright sunlight their fears seemed absurd to the two armed men, accustomed as they were, through long years of lonely wandering in the wilderness, to face every kind of danger from man, brute or element. There were still three beaver traps to collect from a little pond in a wide ravine near by. Bauman volunteered to gather these and bring them in, while his companion went ahead to camp and made ready the packs.
On reaching the pond Bauman found three beavers in the traps, one of which had been pulled loose and carried into a beaver house. He took several hours in securing and preparing the beaver, and when he started homewards he marked, with some uneasiness, how low the sun was getting. As he hurried toward camp, under the tall trees, the silence and desolation of the forest weighted on him. His feet made no sound on the pine needles and the slanting sunrays, striking through among the straight trunks, made a gray twilight in which objects at a distance glimmered indistinctly. There was nothing to break the gloomy stillness which, when there is no breeze, always broods over these somber primeval forests. At last he came to the edge of the little glade where the camp lay and shouted as he approached it, but got no answer. The campfire had gone out, though the thin blue smoke was still curling upwards.
Near it lay the packs wrapped and arranged. At first Bauman could see nobody; nor did he receive an answer to his call. Stepping forward he again shouted, and as he did so his eye fell on the body of his friend, stretched beside the trunk of a great fallen spruce. Rushing towards it the horrified trapper found that the body was still warm, but that the neck was broken, while there were four great fang marks in the throat. The footprints of the unknown beast-creature, printed deep in the soft soil, told the whole story. The unfortunate man, having finished his packing, had sat down on the spruce log with his face to the fire, and his back to the dense woods, to wait for his companion. While thus waiting, his monstrous assailant, which must have been lurking in the woods, waiting for a chance to catch one of the adventurers unprepared, came silently up from behind, walking with long noiseless steps and seemingly still on two legs. Evidently unheard, it reached the man, and broke his neck by wrenching his head back with its fore paws, while it buried its teeth in his throat. It had not eaten the body, but apparently had romped and gamboled around it in uncouth, ferocious glee, occasionally rolling over and over it; and had then fled back into the soundless depths of the woods.
Bauman, utterly unnerved and believing that the creature with which he had to deal was something either half human or half devil, some great goblin-beast, abandoned everything but his rifle and struck off at speed down the pass, not halting until he reached the beaver meadows where the hobbled ponies were still grazing. Mounting, he rode onwards through the night, until beyond reach of pursuit.” – The Wilderness Hunter
This is my encounter with Tall Whites.. It all started when I was ten years old. Sometime in 2001, I was at a we…ek long overnight YMCA summer camp in the mountains around Santa Cruz, CA. I was assigned to a cabin with about ten other kids and one counselor. This cabin was known to be “haunted” so I went into that week hoping I would see a ghost or demon or something because I didn’t think they were real. The second night, I awoke freezing cold and the door to our cabin wide open. I was closest to the the door explaining why I woke up due to the cold. My initial thought was that a wolf or something was prowling around the single room cabin, but that thought was instantly proven false when I looked up over the railing of the top of the bunk I was on and in the direction of the rest of the room where the other kids were sleeping. I was terrified; I saw four tall spiritual looking beings, at least seven feet tall, maybe less because I was a kid and everything looked bigger back then, but they were tall. Skinny too, and glowing a subtle white color, not a bright glow but almost as if they were ghosts, which is what I believed they were up until a few months ago. They were all facing away from me; at this point I was peering through a crack in my mummy bag I was so scared. Two of them were leaning over the only black kid who was on the bottom bunk in the back corner of the cabin, everyone but me was sound asleep, either that or hiding just like me. After about a minute of staring at them, I covered myself up for the rest of the night. The next morning, I came out of the cocoon I had put myself in to keep me safe or as a kid, believed would keep me safe, and the door was still wide open. I thought I had seen ghosts and didn’t tell anyone for a reason I don’t know or can’t remember. That same black kid every night after the encounter and until we left at the end of the week, would have these screaming night terrors waking everyone up every night. That scared the shit out of me even more because I thought the ghosts were back; with what I know now, I can say they were probably not ghosts, here’s why.. Very recently a few months ago, I was doing a random landscaping job and the guy I was working with brought up aliens and how he was encountered, guess where, the Santa Cruz mountains, same place I had the ghost encounter. I was very interested in his story and without telling him a thing about what I just said earlier, he began to talk. His story goes like this. He and his girl were up late at night at there cabin near Santa Cruz, a little drinking and smoking was going on, but he said he wasn’t drunk and fully coherent. They both start to see these red, white, and blue shooting stars, but they were much slower and didn’t disappear until they were blocked by the trees around. At this point, they realize they were not shooting stars but probably airplanes, until one comes towards them and lands behind the neighbors cabin. In an instant, they both saw two tall white skinny ghostly beings who began to talk to them, the girl got scared and ran inside. The tall Tall Whites began to speak to him and asked if he wanted to come with them. He said no and was terrified as well and went inside. As soon as I heard this story, my real childhood terror story was reignited and solidified. In ons zonnestelsel komen twee soorten planeten voor. Dichter bij de zon bevinden zich de kleinere rotsachtige planeten zoals de aarde, verder weg van de zon bevinden zich de gasreuzen zoals bijvoorbeeld Jupiter. Nu blijkt dat er bij de meer dan duizend gekende exoplaneten ook nog een derde soort voorkomt, de zogenaamde gasdwergen.
Het gaat hier om planeten met een rotsachtige kern die een bijzonder dikke gasmantel bezitten. Deze soort van planeten vormt zo'n beetje de overgang tussen de twee andere soorten. Verder blijkt ook dat de samenstelling van de ster bepalend is voor welke soorten planeten er rond een ster kunnen voorkomen. Naarmate er meer zware elementen voorkomen in een ster, zal deze ook meer gasreuzen bezitten.

MODÈLE. Europe est un astre des plus fascinants pour les astronomes. Ce satellite de Jupiter est en effet couvert d'une couche de glace sous laquelle pourrait se trouver de véritables océans à l'état liquide.
De plus, son atmosphère, quoi que très ténue, est riche en oxygène (provenant de la décomposition chimique de la glace par les rayons UV). Bien que la température à sa surface voisine les -150°C, ce satellite est donc l'un des endroits de notre système solaire où l'on aurait le plus de chance... de trouver une vie extraterrestre.
100 millions "d'Europe" dans notre galaxie
S'agit-il d'un cas exceptionnel dans l'Univers ? Pas vraiment. Rien que dans la Voie lactée, il existerait au moins 100 millions de planètes au moins aussi "accueillantes" qu'Europe, sur laquelle la vie pourrait avoir une chance de se développer.
SOUS-REPRÉSENTÉES. Et elles pourraient être en réalité encore plus nombreuses car "les planètes semblables à la Terre (par la masse) sont sous-représentées dans l'échantillon étudié car elles sont trop petites pour être facilement détectées avec les instruments actuels" précise des chercheurs dans la revue scientifique suisse Challenge.
Ce chiffre étonnant est en effet issu d'une étude publiée le 28 mai 2014. Pour l'obtenir, les scientifiques de plusieurs universités américaines (universités du Texas, de Porto-Rico et l'université Cornell), allemandes (université technique de Berlin) et espagnoles (centre d'astrobiologie de Torrejón de Ardoz) ont passé en revue 637 exoplanètes découvertes depuis la Terre.
Un indice de complexité biologique
À partir des données collectées par les différentes agences spatiales, les chercheurs ont établi pour chacune de ces planètes un "indice de complexité biologique" (BCI en Anglais). Cet indice est calculé à partir de paramètres tels que la température de l'exoplanète, l'énergie qu'elle reçoit de son astre, ses caractéristiques orbitales, son âge ainsi que sa nature rocheuse ou non.
Classement des 29 premières planètes (extrait de la publication) en fonction de l'indice de complexité biologique (le plus à droite dans le tableau).
Sur cette échelle, la Terre obtient un score de 0,97, et Europe se classe à la 14e place avec un score de 0,71. Mars est entre les deux avec un score de 0,83.
D'après les calculs des chercheurs, 98,4% des exoplanètes étudiées ont un indice de complexité biologique inférieur à celui d'Europe. Mais tout de même 10 sur les 637 étudiées présentaient un indice au moins équivalent.
EXTRAPOLATION. Ils ont ensuite posé comme hypothèse que ce rapport d'habitabilité potentiel (10 sur 637) est constant dans l'Univers.
"Si nous estimons qu'il existe entre 10 et 100 milliards d'exoplanètes dans la voie lactée et que seulement 1% d'entre elles présentent des caractéristiques compatibles avec l'évolution d'organismes complexes, alors cela nous fait tout de même 100 millions de planètes candidates au développement de la vie telle que nous la connaissons dans notre galaxie" chiffrent les chercheurs.
Les prérequis pour que la vie apparaisse dans le cosmos sont courants.
"Cette étude constitue le premier argument quantitatif qui tende à prouver que les formes de vies complexes, quoi que très rares en fréquence sur les planètes, pourraient être très nombreuses en nombre absolu rien que dans notre galaxie" s'enthousiasme l'étude.
PROTOPLANÈTES. "Des molécules organiques ont été découvertes un peu partout dans l'Univers : dans les régions où se forment les étoiles comme dans les disques des protoplanètes en passant par les météorites, les comètes ou l'espace profond, rappellent les chercheurs. L'eau est une molécule très répandue dans l'univers, tout comme le sont les sources d'énergie (telles que les rayonnements ou la chaleur). Les prérequis pour que la vie apparaisse sont très courants dans le cosmos".
Un indice qui ne mesure par la probabilité d'apparition de la vie
Toutefois, ces chiffres méritent d'être relativisés. Tout d'abord parce qu'une planète "dont les caractéristiques sont compatibles avec le développement de la vie" ne signifie aucunement que cette planète est habitée (même uniquement par des bactéries).
D'ailleurs, aux dernières nouvelles, et même s'il existe dans notre système solaire des candidats prometteurs, nous n'avons pas encore trouvé de vie ailleurs que sur Terre.
PRÉCAUTION. Les chercheurs le reconnaissent dans leur étude : "l'indice BCI doit être utilisé avec précaution. Il ne s'agit pas d'un indice de probabilité d'y trouver la vie, mais donne juste un classement des planètes les unes par rapport aux autres, et leur compatibilité avec des scénarios évolutifs complexes."
Autrement dit, la planète Gliese a beau tenir le haut du pavé en présentant un indice de complexité biologique supérieur à celui de la Terre, il n'est pas évident du tout qu'elle puisse réellement abriter de la vie.
Mais cette étude a au moins le mérite de nous donner une idée approximative du nombre de planètes qu'il nous reste à explorer pour espérer apporter une réponse définitive à cette éternelle question : sommes nous seuls dans l'Univers ?

The anomaly is located on the northwest corner of the Western Plateau of Mount Ararat (approximately 39°42′10″N 44°16′30″ECoordinates: 39°42′10″N 44°16′30″E) at about 15,500 ft (4,724 m), some 2.2 km (1.4 mi) west of the 16,854 ft (5,137 m) summit, on the edge of what appears from the photographs to be a steep downward slope. It was first filmed during a U.S. Air Force aerial reconnaissance mission in 1949 — the Ararat massif sits on the former Turkish/Soviet border, and was thus an area of military interest — and was accordingly given a classification of “secret” as were subsequent photographs taken in 1956, 1973, 1976, 1990 and 1992, by aircraft and satellites.
Six frames from the 1949 footage were released under the Freedom of Information Act to Porcher Taylor, a professor at the University of Richmond in Virginia, and a scholar at the Washington-based Center for Strategic and International Studies specializing in satellite intelligence and diplomacy, in 1995.
A joint research project was later established between Insight Magazine and Space Imaging (now GeoEye), using the IKONOS satellite. IKONOS captured the anomaly on August 5 and September 13, 2000. GeoEye has constructed a computerized video of the imagery it captured of the anomaly. The structure appears at approximately halfway through the video. A controversial “bird’s eye view” satellite image, taken by IKONOS later in 2003 for the same research project, was released to the public in 2006.
The Mount Ararat area also has been imaged by France’s SPOT satellite in September 1989, Landsat in the 1970s and NASA’s Space shuttle in 1994, as well as military satellite images captured by the CIA’s KH-9 (Keyhole 9) in 1973 and KH-11 in 1976 and 1990–1992.

An enormous asteroid – approximately the size of an aircraft carrier – is due to zip past Earth on Sunday. Dubbed “The Beast,” the huge space rock is estimated to fly past our planet, no closer than around 3.2 lunar distances.
The asteroid 2014 HQ124 was discovered by NASA’s Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer on April 23. The sky-mapping telescope was deployed to perceive the glow of hundreds of millions of never before seen objects, from near-Earth asteroids to luminous galaxies. It was hoped the telescope could generate a catalogue of images that could help astronomers understand some of the fundamental mysteries surrounding the origins of planets and stars.
Researchers connected with NASA’s Asteroid Watch program at JPL in Pasadena, California, claim Asteroid 2014 HQ124 is over 1,000 feet in width. On Sunday, the asteroid will be travelling at speeds of up to 31,000 miles per hour when it is closest to the Earth.
Although astronomers predict the asteroid will miss the Earth, the International Astronomical Union (IAU) has classified The Beast as a Potentially Hazardous Asteroid (PHA).
The Slooh Space Camera started broadcasting the spectacle at 2:30 p.m. EDT on Thursday, June 5. Slooh’s astronomers streamed the event from Australia, using time-lapse video footage from their robotic observatory in Chile. The webcast included commentary from host Geoff Fox, Slooh community observatory astronomer Bob Berman and a specialist in asteroid impacts, Mark Boslough.
