We start with a motorist who reported seeing lights in the sky above Hythewho said he had no idea what he saw– but was sure was not a plane or helicopter.
Matt Law, 29, had been driving towards Dymchurch in March 2014 to take his dog Jessie for a run when he saw triangular lights in front of him.
As he got closer, they did not move so he came to a halt directly below, opened his window and found there was no sound.
Perplexed, he watched as the lights disappeared.
He told the Herald: "I'm not saying it was a flying saucer – I'm a bit of a sceptic – but it was no plane or helicopter."
Motorcyclist Michael D was "terrified" when a UFO hovered over his car while he travelled at about 35 miles per hour.
The witness reported online he had been riding home from a friend's house when he spotted a "massive flying thing" in the sky. The unknown entity hovered above him as he drove from Hawkinge towards Canterbury at about 1.50am on December 27 2014.
He said: "I caught up with it and saw it had a green light on one side and red on the other, both flashing slowly with a dot of white underneath. It was as if it stopped over me but had no sound."
Footage we showed of strange lights seen flying over a home in Folkestone was described as "intriguing" by one of the UK's foremost experts on UFOs.
The video was uploaded to YouTube and was watched about 30 times by curious viewers
When shown the clip by the Herald, Nick Pope, who investigated UFOs for the Ministry of Defence, said: "Assuming it's genuine, it's an intriguing piece of footage."
A pensioner who spotted an unidentified flying object over his home in Cheriton claimed visitors from another world are watching us.
That was the opinion of former Ministry of Defence worker Derek Clarke, who said he saw a UFO over his home in Biggins Wood Road in 2010.
The skies over Lydd are the site of an unsolved UFO incident, according to official Government documents released in 2008.
The reports showed a passenger plane was involved in a near miss with an unidentified flying object over Kent.
The incident, reported in April 1991, involved a fast-moving object thought, at first, to be a missile.
A description made out to the Civil Aviation Authority said: "The pilots reported seeing a missile cross above their position whilst descending as they prepared to land in London."
The Alitalia flight, en route from Milan to Heathrow, was piloted by Captain Achille Zaghetti. In an official review he said: "During descent I saw for about 3 to 4 seconds a flying object flying about 1,000ft higher than us."
Government letters, reports from the Folkestone Herald and details of an RAF investigation into a UFO sighting near former MP Michael Howard's home featured in UFO files released by the Ministry of Defence.
Eyewitnesses in Burmarsh and New Romney saw the ''humming'' object, the size of two passenger planes, near Mr Howard's home on March 8 1997, when he was serving as home secretary for the Conservative government.
Sophie Wadleigh, 25, from Hythe, reported the sighting to the Folkestone Herald.
She told the newspaper: ''It was so peculiar, it all felt really odd and I heard this humming noise."
When landlord Stuart Whiffen feels a gentle push on his back he knows he has to ask a customer to leave the premises – or risk annoying a spirit which shares his Sandgate pub.
Since taking over the Ship Inn 29 years ago he says he has encountered at least two ghosts, who on one occasion even forced his staff to flee the building in terror.
The first, who he calls the fish woman owing to the stench which accompanies her, he has only seen on one memorable occasion a few years ago, when she was wearing a distinctive dress.
But the other is a different story.
Mr Whiffen told the Herald: "The second one is a bit of a madam.
"We've had music turn up and down on its own and doors crash shut – so much so that we've called police as we think we have intruders."

The CIA has released photos of alleged UFOs -- its own real-life X-Files cases. This first and one of the most compelling photos is taken from a released CIA report published on July 29, 1952. The paper is titled "Recent Sightings of Unexplained Objects." In this document, the CIA admits that there are unidentified objects near U.S. military installations that they could not identify. Specifically, it reads:
Recent reports reaching CIA indicated that further action was desirable... At this time, the reports of incidents convince us that there is something going on that must have immediate attention... Sightings of unexplained objects at great altitudes and travelling at high speeds in the vicinity of major U.S. defense installations are of such nature that they are not attributable to natural phenomenon or known types of aerial vehicles."

On May 13, 2004 Jaime Maussan ( above ) released his interview of Mexican Air Force pilots showing an infrared video footage from a military air patrol on March 5, 2004 against drug smuggling, that shows at least 11 very hot “spheres” moving irregularly with apparent great speed. Location: Over Campeche state, Mexico. The objects could not be seen with the naked eye, neither the crew on board nor ground personnel confirmed any radar contact with the objects in question. The crew did however pick up an earlier radar contact of an object moving at 60 mph which was later described as a lonely truck on the highway below which has been located to the front of the two engine Merlin C26A aircraft whereas the infrared targets were picked up through a dome mounted IR-system a little later at abt. -130° azimuth relative to the aircraft’s flight direction in its 8 o’clock position.
Skeptics
Skeptics have suggested that the UFOs were actually oil platform burn-off flares of the Cantarell oil field located around19°22′04″N 92°00′25″W / 19.36778°N 92.00694°W / 19.36778; -92.00694, some 240 kilometres (149 mi) to the north west of the aircraft. This would have placed the objects near the horizon so as to appear on the same level as the aircraft. Mexican Air Force pilots filmed 11 unidentified flying objects in the skies over southern Campeche state in Mexico, a Mexican Defense Department spokesman confirmed Tuesday. A videotape was made widely available to the news media.

MEXICO CITY (AP) – Mexican Air Force pilots filmed 11 unidentified flying objects in the skies over southern Campeche state, a Defense Department spokesman confirmed Tuesday.
A videotape made widely available to the news media on Tuesday shows the bright objects, some sharp points of light and others like large headlights, moving rapidly in what appears to be a late-evening sky.
The lights were filmed on March 5 by pilots using infrared equipment. They appeared to be flying at an altitude of about 3,500 meters (11,480 feet), and allegedly surrounded the Air Force jet as it conducted routine anti-drug trafficking vigilance in Campeche. Only three of the objects showed up on the plane’s radar.
“Was I afraid? Yes. A little afraid because we were facing something that had never happened before,” said radar operator Lt. German Marin in a taped interview made public Tuesday.
“I couldn’t say what it was … but I think they’re completely real,” added Lt. Mario Adrian Vazquez, the infrared equipment operator. Vazquez insisted that there was no way to alter the recorded images.
The plane’s captain, Maj. Magdaleno Castanon, said the military jets chased the lights “and I believe they could feel we were pursuing them.”
When the jets stopped following the objects, they disappeared, he said.
A Defense Department spokesman confirmed Tuesday that the videotape was filmed by members of the Mexican Air Force. The spokesman declined to comment further and spoke on customary condition of anonymity.
The video was first aired on national television Monday night then again at a news conference Tuesday by Jaime Maussan, a Mexican investigator who has dedicated the past 10 years to studying UFOs.
“This is historic news,” Maussan told reporters. “Hundreds of videos (of UFOs) exist, but none had the backing of the armed forces of any country. … The armed forces don’t perpetuate frauds.”
Maussan said Secretary of Defense Gen. Ricardo Vega Garcia gave him the video on April 22.
C26A crew members/eye witnesses

Following yesterday’s news story about the sighting of eleven UFOs by a Mexican Military aircraft, the Mexican Department of Defense – under Secretary of Defense General Clemente Vega Garcia, commander of all armed forces in the country – have taken the unprecedented step of publically confirming the incident. The press conference took place at the Hotel Sevilla Palace in Mexico city and international media representatives were invited.
JAIME MAUSSAN’S PRESS BRIEFING DOCUMENT:
THE FACTS: On April 20, 2004 Jaime Maussan was contacted by a high officer of the Department of Defense to have a private meeting and discuss a subject of a high relevant matter. The next day Maussan met General Clemente Vega Garcia, Secretary of Defense and his major staff and was informed about an incident that took place on March 5, 2004 on the aerial space of Ciudad del Carmen, Campeche where an Air Force Merlín C26A Bimotor airplane was doing a routine flight to detect a smuggling drug airplane during an ant-narcotics operation.
The Merlin C26A was equipped with a high tech advanced digital equipment to register and record all the activities during the operation. Powerful sensor detectors like a FLIR STAR ZAPPHIR II and a RADAR AN/PS 143 BRAVO VICTOR 3 were being used by qualified personal aboard the airplane and all the operation was being recorded both in normal and infrared mode. The airplane was under the command of Mayor Magdaleno Jasso Núñez.
The FLIR operator was Lt. Mario Adrián Vázquez and the RADAR operator Lt. German Ramirez, all of them members of the 501 Aerial Squadron. This airplane is programmed only for surveillance and detection procedures, not for interception or combat manouvres. Their duty is to detect and identify drug dealers flights and then immediately report them to the base where combat planes are scrambled to intercept those narcotics smugglers. At approximately 17:00 PM the Merlin C26A detected an unknown traffic at 10,500 feet over Ciudad del Carmen, Campeche airspace and according to the protocol and suspecting a drug dealer airplane Mayor Magdaleno Jasso made a maneuver to approach the unidentified traffic at certain range to get a close look and record the target with their equipment.
At the same time Mayor Jasso reported by radio to the base that a possible suspect was detected requesting the interceptor planes to be in alert condition. The RADAR AN/PS 143 BRAVO VICTOR 3 was detecting the unknown traffic and the FLIR STAR ZAPPHIR II was recording the object in infrared. As the Merlin C26A tried to approach the unknown traffic to make a visual identification it suddenly in a surprising maneuver escaped flying away at tremendous speed.
By this time Mayor Jasso tried to persecute the target but it was very fast. All this was being recorded by the FLAIR and also the radio conversations with the base describing the unexpected maneuver of the unknown. However the C26A still have not made visual contact with the unknown object. Just some moments passed when suddenly the unknown object returned and began following the Merlin C26A in a surprising situation.
This was detected by the RADAR and the FLIR while the personal aboard were trying to make visual contact of the unidentified traffic now following them. In seconds the equipment detected now not only one but two traffics following them. The images in both RADAR and the FLIR were clear and unmistakable. But both pilot and personal still couldn’t have visual contact with these two traffics following them adding a great suspense to this disconcerting situation. Mayor Magdaleno Jasso reported to the base the incident that was taking place giving detail of all the information registered by the equipment while keep trying to make visual contact of the unknowns. The FLIR kept recording in infrared every movement made by the two unknown objects that seemed to be keeping their distance from the C26A but still following it. The personal aboard the Merlin C26A were confused and disconcerted seeing the images on the FLIR and the RADAR asking themselves what was going on with this situation.
THE INCIDENT TURNS MORE DRAMATIC
But the stressing moment that the C26A crew were passing through was just the beginning of something more dramatic that will turn their undesirable experience into a real nightmare. Some minutes passed while the Mexican Air Force Merlin C26A crew continued making maneuvers to have a visual contact of the unknowns because despite both RADAR and FLIR were showing perfectly clear both unidentified objects for unexplained reasons there was not a visual contact even that the objects by this time were at close range. It was during this round and round maneuvers to identify these two objects that something amazing happened. In a matter of seconds more unknown objects arrived to the scene and the disconcert of the C26A crew was total.
The RADAR and the FLIR detected immediately the presence of nine new objects of the same size and characteristics, unknown objects that arrived to the scene surprisingly like coming from nowhere.
Now the situation has entered into a high level of danger so Mayor Magdaleno Jasso reported by radio to the base this new situation requesting instructions. But the most bizarre thing was that even though there were eleven unknown objects close to them, still the crew couldn’t see them, no visual contact with the unknowns was possible for some reason never experienced before by these high trained men. However the high tech sophisticated equipment and sensors were not lying, there were eleven targets outside them with unpredictable intentions.
At the middle of a complete confusion and disconcert among the C26A crew the unknown objects suddenly made a maneuver surrounding the Mexican Air Force airplane in a circle at close range. The RADAR and FLIR presented an image of an eleven objects near by in a circle formation around the Merlin C26A. The situation turned out of control. Mayor Magdaleno Jasso reported to the base that the C26A situation was now in red alert, surrounded by eleven mysterious round shaped objects camouflaged with a certain unknown advanced technology that avoid any visual contact of them.
However Mayor Jasso kept the calm as well as the crew who were working fast measuring and recording every detail of this unique incident conscientious of their duty as military and trained men. Confronting this situation surrounded by unidentified objects in an unpredictable ending Mayor Magdaleno Jasso took the decision of turning out all the airplane lights and wait to see what happened. Moments of high suspense lived by the crew while the FLIR was recording the images of those bright objects even that visual contact was not possible, moments of silence and uncertainty.
The C26A crew kept calmed doing their duty, documenting every moment of the strange incident while Mayor Jasso continued in contact with the base. After some stressing minutes the eleven objects disappeared giving an end to the strange experience that these members of the 501 Aerial Squadron just lived. The Merlin C26A returned safe to the Air Force Base and Mayor Magdaleno Jasso prepared a complete report of the incident along with the C26A crew. The Secretary of the Defense took notice of Mayor Jasso’s report and began a full investigation studying and evaluating every element of the case.
Statements of the crew, images, lectures, measurements of all the equipment as well as a complete evaluation of the meteorological data . The incident was taken very seriously by the Department of Defense Staff and after several weeks of investigation they decided under the command of General Clemente Vega Garcia to contact researcher and TV journalist Jaime Maussan for a special collaboration in this investigation as an experienced researcher in these matters. On April 22, 2004 General Clemente Vega, Secretary of Defense gave Jaime Maussan a copy of all the tapes and data collected by the Merlin C26A during the incident for study, evaluation and analysis by Maussan’s research team as complement of this investigation and as an external collaborating source trying to establish a definition of the possible motives and consequences of the March 5, 2004 incident.
General Vega as well as his staff were very open to discuss the subject and showed their legitimate interest in conducting this investigation in order to establish the truth of what happened. General Vega authorized the Merlin C26A crew to give Jaime Maussan the interviews needed without any censorship, giving all the facilities to present this case to the Mexican people, an historic and unprecedented decision that will open a new era of mutual collaboration among the Mexican ufologists and the military forces, a collaboration based in respect and interest to find the truth of the intense UFO activity we have been experiencing here in Mexico since the beginning of the Amazing Mexican UFO Wave back in July 11, 1991.
This new era of relationship among the Mexican UFO witnesses, skywatchers, ufologists and our military forces will try to establish and give form to a new legislation in our law system focused to be prepared for any incident involving these unidentified flying objects, our people, our commercial and military airplanes etc. for learning and understanding what are we going to do and how are we going to confront this reality.
Summary:
On April 20, 2004, Mexican UFO investigator and television personality Jaime Maussan was summoned by Mexico’s Department of Defense to a private meeting to discuss a matter of national importance. Maussan met with General Clemente Vega Garcia, Secretary of Defense, and other members of his staff. Maussan was informed that on March 5, an extraordinary incident took place in the skies over Ciudad del Carmen, Campeche.
Anti-Narcotics Operation:
A Mexican Air Force Merlin C26A bi-motor airplance was performing routine duties to detect drug smuggling airplanes, in a anti-narcotics operation. The plane had a high-tech FLIR STAR ZAPPHIR II and a RADAR AN/PS 143 BRAVO VICTOR 3, which implements infrared video. Mayor Magdaleno Jasso Núñez was the commander of the plane, Lt. Mario Adrian Vasquez was FLIR operator, and Lt. German Ramirez was radar operator-all three were members of the 501 Aerial Squadron.
Unknown Target Detected:
The plane was not a combat plane-its mission was to detect planes without flight plans, and report their find to base headquarters, where combat planes would be scrambled to encounter the smugglers. At 17:00 hours, the Merlin detected unknown traffic at 10,500 feet over Ciudad del Carmen. The plane then flew closer to the unknown target to record it with their equipment. UFO Follows Plane:
The Merlin’s radar was painting the object, and the infrared cameras were filming it. The Merlin attempted to move closer yet for a visual confirmation, but as it did, the unknown target made a surprise maneuver, and flew away at great speed. The entire event was being recorded, and the details were being reported as they occurred to base. Without warning, the unknown object suddenly reappeared, and began following the Merlin.
No Visual Contact:
In a moment, the Merlin’s radar was now seeing two objects, but there had still been no visual contact. The crew became alarmed because they could not make a maneuver that would enable a visual confirmation of the unknown objects. In a minute or two, there would be nine more objects , which seemed to come from out of nowhere. In another unexpected move, the eleven unknown objects were now circling the Merlin.
Full Investigation Ordered:
Though close enough to see the unknowns, the crew aboard the Merlin stated the objects must have been invisible. After some stressful moments, suddenly the eleven UFOs were gone-nowhere to be seen or recorded on camera. The Merlin returned to the Air Force base, and Jasso prepared a full report on the incident. After the Secretary of the Defense read Jasso’s report, he ordered a full investigation into the incident.
Air Force Freely Releases Information:
On April 22, 2004, General Clemente Vega, Secretary of Defense contacted Maussan and his research team, and turned over all of the tapes and information collected by the Merlin. In a rare move, the Mexican military declared that they were open to discuss and evaluate the sighting of the UFOs without suppressing any information from the public. This collaboration between the military and the general public had its beginnings during the Mexico UFO Wave of 1991.
Infrared Video of UFOs:
The extraordinary FLIR video of the eleven unknown objects flying over Campeche became news all over the world. UFO investigators were thrilled to finally have solid, undeniable evidence of the existence of UFOs flying over our skies. The UFO video was freely shared over the Internet, and discussed on many UFO web sites, and forums.
Solid Proof:
The debunkers would get in their two-cents worth, claiming that the glowing objects recorded by the camera of the Merlin plane were nothing more than oil field fires bouncing off of the clouds. This explanation has been accepted by some, but many hold to the film as solid proof of UFOs.

This footage was filmed in 2004 over mexico by military personnel who were looking for drug smugglers flying private planes they thought they had something when this happened, they managed to capture on film this amazing encounter with upto 11 ufo’s whilst flying in there aircraft, this footage has since become very famous and mexico even came out to the public and admitted the story was very true and are now taking the ufo issue very seriously. “A friend said, he would never forget the sight of the alien looking TR-3B based at Papoose. The pitch black, triangular shaped TR-3B was rarely mentioned–and then, only in hushed whispers–at the Groom Lake facility where he worked. The craft had flown over the Groom Lake runway in complete silence and magically stopped above Area S-4. It hovered silently in the same position, for some 10 minutes, before gently settling vertically to the tarmac. At times a corona of silver blue light glowed around the circumference of the massive TR-3B. The operational model is 600 feet across.” The TR-3B is Code named Astra. The tactical reconnaissance TR-3B first operational flight was in the early 90s. The triangular shaped nuclear powered aerospace platform was developed under the Top Secret, Aurora Program with SDI and black budget monies. At least 3 of the billion dollar plus TR-3Bs were flying by 1994. The Aurora is the most classified aerospace development program in existence. The TR-3B is the most exotic vehicle created by the Aurora Program. It is funded and operationally tasked by the National Reconnaissance Office, the NSA, and the CIA. The TR-3B flying triangle is not fiction and was built with technology available in the mid 80s. Not every UFO spotted is one of theirs.
The TR-3B vehicles outer coating is reactive to electrical Radar stimulation and can change reflectiveness, radar absorptiveness, and color. This polymer skin, when used in conjunction with the TR-3Bs Electronic Counter Measures and, ECCM, can make the vehicle look like a small aircraft, or a flying cylinder–or even trick radar receivers into falsely detecting a variety of aircraft, no aircraft, or several aircraft at various locations. A circular, plasma filled accelerator ring called the Magnetic Field Disrupter, surrounds the rotatable crew compartment and is far ahead of any imaginable technology. Sandia and Livermore laboratories developed the reverse engineered MFD technology. The government will go to any lengths to protect this technology. The plasma, mercury based, is pressurized at 250,000 atmospheres at a temperature of 150 degrees Kelvin and accelerated to 50,000 rpm to create a super-conductive plasma with the resulting gravity disruption. The MFD generates a magnetic vortex field, which disrupts or neutralizes the effects of gravity on mass within proximity, by 89 percent. Do not misunderstand. This is not antigravity. Anti-gravity provides a repulsive force that can be used for propulsion. The MFD creates a disruption of the Earth’s gravitational field upon the mass within the circular accelerator. The mass of the circular accelerator and all mass within the accelerator, such as the crew capsule, avionics, MFD systems, fuels, crew environmental systems, and the nuclear reactor, are reduced by 89%. This causes the effect of making the vehicle extremely light and able to outperform and outmaneuver any craft yet constructed–except, of course, those UFOs we did not build.
The TR-3B is a high altitude, stealth, reconnaissance platform with an indefinite loiter time. Once you get it up there at speed, it doesnt take much propulsion to maintain altitude. At Groom Lake their have been whispered rumours of a new element that acts as a catalyst to the plasma. With the vehicle mass reduced by 89%, the craft can travel at Mach 9, vertically or horizontally. My sources say the performance is limited only the stresses that the human pilots can endure. Which is a lot, really, considering along with the 89% reduction in mass, the G forces are also reduced by 89%.
The TR-3Bs propulsion is provided by 3 multimode thrusters mounted at each bottom corner of the triangular platform. The TR-3 is a sub-Mach 9 vehicle until it reaches altitudes above l20,000 feet–then God knows how fast it can go! The 3 multimode rocket engines mounted under each corner of the craft use hydrogen or methane and oxygen as a propellent. In a liquid oxygen/hydrogen rocket system, 85% of the propellent mass is oxygen. The nuclear thermal rocket engine uses a hydrogen propellent, augmented with oxygen for additional thrust. The reactor heats the liquid hydrogen and injects liquid oxygen in the supersonic nozzle, so that the hydrogen burns concurrently in the liquid oxygen afterburner. The multimode propulsion system can; operate in the atmosphere, with thrust provided by the nuclear reactor, in the upper atmosphere, with hydrogen propulsion, and in orbit, with the combined hydrogen oxygen propulsion. What you have to remember is, that the 3 rocket engines only have to propel 11 percent of the mass of the Top Secret TR-3B. The engines are reportedly built by Rockwell. Many sightings of triangular UFOs are not alien vehicles but the top secret TR-3B. The NSA, NRO, CIA, and USAF have been playing a shell game with aircraft nomenclature – creating the TR-3, modified to the TR-3A, the TR-3B, and the Teir 2, 3, and 4, with suffixes like Plus or Minus added on to confuse further the fact that each of these designators is a different aircraft and not the same aerospace vehicle. A TR-3B is as different from a TR-3A as a banana is from a grape. Some of these vehicles are manned and others are unmanned.

The craft is a sub mach 9 craft, at 120,000 feet,and below.Its never been tested any higher, so who know its limits. The first pictures ever taken of the TR3B were in Belgium March 31 1990 (LINK), it was again sighted in Idaho in 2000 when it flew within 200 feet of some people camping. The one thing that makes it stick out is the three lights,one on each corner, and one main light in the center
The campers said it was noiseless except for a small huming,when it moved. Rumors that the pending official disclosure of the existence of the TB3R a been around for a while now. Most want to know how it works, but I’m sure its going to be a while before it becomes public.

This is one of the most bizarre multiple-witness UFO cases ever recorded in the UK and it rivals the famous 1955 Kelly-Hopkinsville (Green Men Case) for strangeness. The entire 1994 Silbury Hill event is detailed in 11 pages by Andrew Collins in his 2012 book Lightquest. This article is only a brief synopsis of the events and subsequent experiences reported by the witnesses. The case is little known outside the UK but is clearly one of the most important cases in UFO history. The book Lightquest includes several full-page illustrations of the objects and the beings encountered by the witnesses.
In July 1994 three people climbed England’s Silbury Hill and planned to spend the night atop the 131-foot high mound to watch for possible crop circle activity. The three people (two men and a woman) were soon met by two other friends, but the two friends left shortly before dark. A group of 5-6 teenagers was also on the summit of the mound at the same time. The teenagers fell asleep around midnight as fog began to encircle the mound and they appeared to be “frozen” or deeply asleep when the strangeness began to unfold.
Around 1:00 am the three witnesses heard what they thought were the sounds of someone ascending the hill by coming straight up the side—not by using the spiral path that leads up and around the hill. Looking over the side of the steep mound they thought they could see small dark forms moving around, forms resembling children, but their attention was immediately grabbed by the sight of an orange fireball appearing about a mile away—slowly floating above the ground. When all three people looked at the orange, fiery orb another fireball immediately appeared beside the first. At that distance the witnesses described them as looking like flaming, orange torches. Immediately they smelled sulfur and something like burning rubber and they could hear dogs in the distance now barking wildly. The fireballs floated quickly toward the three witnesses and when the orbs were about 170 yards away from the mound, one of the witnesses turned on a flashlight. Immediately the orange orbs stopped moving. The witnesses then could clearly see a “structured form” hanging below each of the orange orbs. The balls of orange fire appeared to be about 2-feet in diameter, but the objects below each were larger. The objects under the orbs were tetrahedron shaped—a three-sided pyramid—and floating above the ground. When the flashlight was turned off, the floating lights continued moving toward them. They watched as what looked like electrical discharges occasionally flashed to the ground from the orbs. When the forms got closer, the witnesses were stunned by what they saw.
Inside both of the now translucent pyramid-shaped objects they could see a small being sitting with crossed legs and hands clasped on their laps. The beings were glowing orange and were estimated to have been 4-5 feet tall. The female witness — for reasons she could not explain — blurted out, “They’re little people.” The fireballs floated higher and eventually elevated to about 10 feet above the hill and about 15-20 feet away from the witnesses. At that point, everything seemed to mentally move in slow motion. They heard a cracking sound and what seemed to be whispering. One of the witnesses believed that the creatures were somehow communicating with them. As the orange glow from the objects was reflected onto the surrounding trees and the hill, both fireballs silently expanded in a massive and blinding flash of light.
The orbs and dangling pyramid shaped objects reappeared after the light flash subsided and then floated down the hill, they then joined together into a single fireball, and moved over a nearby road to an adjacent field. It was at this point the most bizarre event occurred.
One of the humanoid beings slowly emerged from the fireball, but as it emerged it was holding the hand of the other humanoid, also pulling it out of the orb. Both of the orange, glowing beings floated next to the orb, hand-in-hand, and then they re-entered the fireball. At that moment from behind the object several more orange orbs suddenly appeared, numbering from 3-4. Below each of these the witnesses could see a translucent tetrahedron with a small humanoid being sitting inside. The group of orange objects then moved away from Silbury following a road toward the town of Marlborough, illuminating the road as they moved.
Unexpectedly, a car then appeared on the road moving toward the lights. In response, the orange orbs merged into a single light and shrank to the size of a tennis ball and rapidly jumped off the road into a hedgerow. As the three witnesses saw the car then hit its brakes, a man suddenly came up to the top of the hill and startled them. He said he had been sleeping on a portion of the other side of the hill and was awakened. Then, all 4 witnesses saw the tennis-ball size light reappear and rapidly move toward Silbury Hill and spin around it. Shortly thereafter the witnesses saw what they described as a string of multi-colored lights moving up a nearby hill and over it out of sight.
The three main witnesses decided to tell no one about their experience, but for years thereafter they were haunted by the experience. Nightmares, fear, changes in career, and various other emotional issues emerged. Andrew Collins, who is well-known and respected in that area of the UK, extensively interviewed all of the witnesses while researching the book Lightquest and was convinced of their honesty. The first time that the story was publicly revealed was in his book.
The area around Silbury and nearby Avebury is a hotbed of strange reports: UFOs, crop circles, humanoids, strange lights, and apparitional phenomena are frequently reported. Around 2006 my wife and I stayed with the Collins’s for a week at Avebury exploring Silbury, the Avebury circle, and nearby sites. We spent several nights walking the standing stone grassy avenues leading for miles in various directions to different sites. Oddly, each night we observed small orbs of blue/green/white lights emanating from the hills running alongside the avenues.

I was laying on the roof of a building with a friend while we were waiting on a buddy to get out of class. My friend was walking around on the roof while I was lying down. I was staring up at the stars when I saw a bright white elongated diamond shape appear out of nowhere. The object looked as though it was coming through the atmosphere because it had a contrail but the color was nothing like a comet’s trail; It was more of a pink color. The ‘front’ of it was the elongated, more acute angle (i.e. the pointier end of the diamond). It traveled a short distance in a straight line before it disappeared. (approx. 2 inches if I held my arm straight up). The contrail seemed to be coming off of the object and disappeared just as the object did. At this point I yelled “Holy ****! Dude did you see that?” Just as I was saying this I saw another white diamond appear in the same area of sky. This time the contrail was red/purple. The object flew perpendicular to the first object’s path. It seemed a little bit bigger than the first one, but I am not sure if it was the same object a little closer or if it was a second object. This object was visible for the same amount of time (1-2 seconds) before it vanished just like the first one. I wanted to make sure my friend saw it, so I yelled “Look up!” and pointed towards the area as the second one was going by. By the time he looked up it had vanished. Then a third diamond appeared in the same area of sky! This time its path was parallel to the previous one; the flight path of all three basically made the shape of a capital ‘H’. It was bright white like the others but there was no trail coming off of the object on this pass. It moved slower this time and it was much closer; I could actually see the diamond shape spin on its long axis! Again, it vanished after a couple of seconds had passed.
I asked my friend if he saw it too, he said “Yea, what the hell was that?!” (More like he yelled in a panicked tone). Of course, I had no answer for him. At this point I felt a wave of anxiety come over me and I wanted to get off of the roof as quickly as possible and go somewhere inside. So we both hurried down to the ground and went indoors. I asked him what he saw and he basically said it looked like a bright spinning arrowhead that appeared and disappeared. The images of them have been burned into my memory and I have reflected upon that moment quite often. I am not sure if it was the same object slowly making its way through the atmosphere or three separate objects. I am also not sure if the brightness of the object was from the heat produced by an object entering the atmosphere, but that is the only explanation I can think of; it still bugs me that the third sighting had no trail but was still bright white. I simply do not know how to rationalize it.

In the five-plus decades that humans have managed to escape from Earth's gravity well, Jan. 31 has been a busier day than usual.
Today marks the 55th anniversary of the Mercury Redstone-2 launch, which carried Ham the chimpanzee into space; the 50th anniversary of the launch of the Soviet moon lander Luna 9; and the 45th anniversary of the launch of Apollo 14, the third crewed lunar landing.
These anniversaries mark significant milestones in humanity's journey toward the stars. One was a precursor to NASA's first human spaceflight, one was a critical step in getting human technology all the way to the moon and one was the first lunar mission following a nearly disastrous attempt to put humans on the moon. First chimp in space
The Mercury Redstone-2 (MR-2) mission, which launched on Jan. 31, 1961, was one of a series of flights that laid the groundwork for eventually putting humans into space. Among the animals that NASA sent to space as part of that preparation was Ham the chimpanzee, the first chimp in space. Ham returned safely to Earth, but other primates perished during American test flights in the 1940s and 1950s.
Only a few months later, on April 12, 1961, Yuri Gagarin became the first person ever to fly in space. On May 5, 1961, Alan Shepard took off aboard another Mercury Redstone rocket, becoming the first American in space.
Lost Luna 9

The Luna 9 probe was the first spacecraft to make a soft landing on an extraterrestrial body. It took off on Jan. 31, 1966, and made it to the moon on Feb. 3 of that year. It sent back close-range images of the surface of the moon, and represented an incredible feat of spaceflight engineering.
But to this day, no one knows exactly where Luna 9 came to rest. There was no way to precisely track its location. As recently as last November, researchers announced they'd be searching for Luna 9 using NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter.
First golfer on the moon

The three crewmembers of Apollo 14 left Earth on Jan. 31, 1971. It would become the third crewed mission to successfully reach the surface of the moon. (The nearly disastrous Apollo 13 mission was the third attempt at a crewed moon landing.)
The crew consisted of Alan Shepard, Edgar Mitchell and Stuart Roosa. Shepard surprised the world when, just before the crew returned home, he pulled out a six iron and teed off on the lunar surface. The crew returned to Earth on Feb. 9.

Since viewers first heard the famous tagline, "… to boldly go where no man has gone before," "Star Trek" has represented the hope of what space — “the final frontier” — can mean for humanity in a few centuries.
Over several television series and films, the franchise mostly follows the adventures of crews on the USS Enterprise. Humanity is just one of a vast number of alien species participating in a quasi-military organization called Starfleet, whose main goal is to explore the universe for scientific reasons. Starfleet has strict rules about interacting with more primitive species and protecting uncolonized planets, but from time to time the crews in the show run afoul of these rules — sometimes with tragic results.
General franchise history and overview
"Star Trek" was created in the 1960s by Gene Roddenberry, a WWII veteran who began his screenwriting career writing freelance scripts while with the Los Angeles Police Department. Famously, NBC executives did not like the first pilot. They reportedly said the show had too little action and was “too cerebral” for viewers; however, they offered the chance for a second pilot. Except for an alien called Spock (Leonard Nimoy), the cast was switched out for a different crew led by Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner).
"Star Trek" first aired in 1966. The series followed the adventures of the USS Enterprise on a five-year mission to “explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before.” The show was cancelled in 1968 due to ratings concerns, but did well enough in syndication to justify several Hollywood films.
The original series (often referred to as "TOS") spawned six motion pictures between 1979 and 1991 (plus a partial appearance by some members of the original crew in a 1994 "Star Trek" film). Along with an animated series (1973-74), this helped keep the series alive in the minds of fans.
Syndication success eventually led to the creation of "Star Trek: The Next Generation" (1987-1994), which was set many years after the original series, with a new USS Enterprise helmed by Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart). This generation of "Star Trek" tackled issues such as racism, gender and torture, and remains one of the most popularly cited series to this day. "TNG" eventually moved into theaters, with four films between 1994 and 2002.
Roddenberry died in 1991. While "TNG" was still on the air, a different series, "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" (1993-1999), premiered. The show followed the exploits of a crew on a space station, rather than the traditional starship.
"Star Trek" also saw two more commercial TV series. "Star Trek: Voyager" (1995-2001) followed the exploits of a crew that was stranded in space, led by the series' first main female captain, Kathryn Janeway (Kate Mulgrew). Finally, "Enterprise" (2001-2005) took to the air as a prequel to the events of The Original Series, where Jonathan Archer (Scott Bakula) helmed the first warp-drive capable Enterprise.
"Enterprise" was cancelled in 2005, but four years later The Original Series came back to Hollywood with a reboot of the original characters of Kirk, Spock, and McCoy — plus the rest of the main crew. The 2009 film was a hit and has so far spawned three other films – "Star Trek: Into Darkness" (2013), "Star Trek Beyond" (2016) and an untitled film in the works for 2019.
Meanwhile, Star Trek is expected to return to television – at least through CBS streaming – in 2017, when an untitled series makes its debut.
Franchise impact on real-life space exploration
Perhaps the most famous example of Star Trek inspiring real-life took place in the 1970s. The United States was preparing to run test flights of the space shuttle program using a prototype vehicle called Constitution. In response, thousands of "Star Trek" fans staged a write-in campaign to the White House and NASA asking for the prototype shuttle to be named Enterprise. When Enterprise was indeed unveiled in 1976, most of the main cast of TOS was on hand. Enterprise was not designed to fly in space, however.
Decades later, space tourism company Virgin Galactic named one of its planned spacecraft VSS Enterprise, after the television show. The spacecraft, built in 2004, did several in-atmosphere tests in preparation for eventually bringing it and other prototypes into space. VSS Enterprise, however, was destroyed in 2014 during a crash that killed one pilot and severely injured another. The National Transport Safety Board later determined a unique “feathering” system — intended to slow down the spacecraft as it was in the upper atmosphere — deployed early and was the leading cause of the crash.
A few astronauts have appeared on "Star Trek" over the years, according to fan site Memory Alpha. Mae Jamieson is the first one the site records as appearing on a show; she was on the 1993 sixth season episode of TNG's “Second Chances,” where she was visited by TOS' Uhura (Nichelle Nichols). While in space during STS-47, Jamieson reportedly began shifts with Mission Control by quoting Uhura's famous line: “Hailing frequencies are open.” The next recorded astronauts were Mike Fincke and Terry Virts, who appeared on the series finale of "Enterprise" in 2005.
While no "Star Trek" regular actor has flown in space (yet), several of them have recorded supportive messages for NASA, such as Nichols and Wil Wheaton. Nichols not only did a video message, but also flew on NASA's SOFIA (Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy) aircraft in 2015.
"Star Trek" actors have also bantered with real astronauts on Twitter, most notably early in Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield's International Space Station mission in 2012-13 when he spoke with William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, Wil Wheaton and George Takei. (Shatner asked: “Are you tweeting from space?” to which Hadfield replied, “Yes, Standard Orbit, Captain. And we're detecting signs of life from the surface.") After Nimoy died in February 2015, NASA sent out a tweet honoring the actor: "RIP Leonard Nimoy. So many of us at NASA were inspired by Star Trek. Boldly go…"
Star Trek tech
Several early "Star Trek" technologies have also made their way into our everyday lives. "Communicators" are now cell phones, which connect to each other via satellite. Tricorders, which were used to gather medical information, are now available as MRIs — some of which are being developed for space. Enterprise crewmembers can also be seen using tablet computers, and global positioning satellites, which can zero in on your position on the planet, are similar to how teleportation devices worked on the show.
However, human teleportation still eludes us, as does faster-than-light warp drive. In 2015, NASA downplayed several media reports that a “faster-than-light” EM Drive they were developing was on the verge of a breakthrough. “NASA is not working on 'warp drive' technology,” officials said, adding that the EM Drive was “a small effort that has not yet shown any tangible results.” Teleportation, meanwhile, hasonly been achieved on the quantum scale across a few miles.
List of film and TV appearances
Numerous fan-made productions and series spinoffs (such as books and comic books) have been produced; however, this list represents the "official" films and television series that have been released. There are plans to release a fourth in the “rebooted” series of "Star Trek" films in 2019, and to start a new television series via streaming in 2017.
This time of year most people are thinking about how they can tidy up around the house and de-clutter their New Year. Cleaning up is a great emotional challenge that often ends in procrastination. But for NASA and other space agencies around the world, decluttering is a 24x7x365 day obsession.
Launching rockets and satellites into space is so expensive, $10,000 a pound, that fixing the space debris problem is essential to saving money and lives as well as keeping dreams of multi-planet exploration alive. Should spaceships and satellites be damaged or destroyed by space junk, these dreams and aspirations will be sabotaged. If humans are to become spacefarers, we must clean up after ourselves!
Annoying Traffic Jams
Only people in Los Angeles, Bangkok, Beijing and other chronically congested cities can understand how annoying traffic jams can be. Imagine getting stuck in a space traffic jam hundreds of miles from Earth and floating aimlessly amongst debris that could puncture holes in your spacecraft at any moment. For all intents and purposes, space junk is a dangerous human-created asteroid belt.

Developing Technology to Clean Up Space
Unfortunately, according to NASA, 65% of debris includes cataloged objects produced by more than 250 explosions and collisions. All told, the number of space debris objects exceeds 30,000. According to reports, the Chinese missile that exploded in 2007 generated 2,000 pieces of debris in just one mishap.
Space junk has built up over six decades and may not just hinder space exploration but the billions of dollars of communication and research satellites circling the globe and providing critical data to researchers on the ground.

Elon Musk's dream of creating a superfast new transportation system got a step closer to reality over the weekend.
On Saturday (Jan. 30), a team from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) won the first stage of the SpaceX Hyperloop design competition, which was held at Texas A&M University in College Station.
The MIT grad students beat out more than 100 other teams with their design for a passenger-carrying Hyperloop "pod," and will now start building a small-scale prototype to test this summer next to SpaceX's headquarters in Hawthorne, California. "MIT has been involved in so many technological breakthroughs in the past century," team captain Philippe Kirschen, a master's student in aeronautics and astronautics, said in a statement. "It just makes sense we would help advance what might be the future of transportation."

Musk — the CEO of private spaceflight company SpaceX and electric-car company Tesla Motors — announced his vision for the Hyperloop in a 2013 white paper. The system would use pods, traveling in tubes in a near-vacuum, to move people between big cities that are no more than 900 miles (1,500 kilometers) apart, such as San Francisco and Los Angeles.
The pods would levitate above the ground. They would therefore encounter very little friction, and could zoom along at nearly the speed of sound (about 767 mph, or 1,234 km/h, at sea level), according to Musk.
Musk envisioned using a cushion of air to achieve levitation, but the MIT team decided to go with magnets above a conducting plate. The aluminum test track that SpaceX is already building near its headquarters will serve as this conducting plate, MIT team members said.
"The beauty of the system we designed is that it's completely passive, an elegant property that will make our pod very scalable," Kirschen added.
The MIT team's prototype Hyperloop pod will be about 8.2 feet (2.5 meters) long by 3.3 feet (1 m) wide and weigh 550 lbs. (250 kilograms), with the aerodynamic feel of a bobsled, Kirschen said. The vehicle will be built to accommodate a mechanical pusher (which will provide propulsion) as well as a variety of sensors, university officials said.
The MIT team will need to finish final assembly of its pod by mid-May. The students will aim to achieve a speed of at least 225 mph (362 km/h) during the vehicle's 20-second inaugural run, which will not include carrying any passengers.
Five of my favourite from the "best" UFO sightings/encounters
So, I've been thinking, as there is a current slump (it appears) in UFO activity (I believe such things are cyclic, and possibly next year will be a big year), and there are so many hoaxes out there on the net these days, I thought I'd revisit some old cases and list five that really stand the test of time for me. They probably aren't what you expect, but here goes....

Cash Landrum Possibly not extraterrestrial, but certainly unknown, what Betty Cash and Vickie Landrum experienced definitely had an effect on them physically and mentally - there is no doubt they experienced exposure to some kind of radiation/chemical agent. This incident happened the day after the Rendlesham Incident in the UK. I've always wondered if what they encountered was actually one of ours - possibly a test article of some kind of new nuclear propulsion system (although there apparently was no trace of abnormal radioactivity in the area) or, possibly a live test of some form of chemical warfare/hallucinagen spraying where they were in the wrong place at the wrong time. Certainly a UFO in the true sense of being unidentified and irrefutable that something happened to them.

JAL 1628 When an experienced ex-fighter pilot turned Heavy Cargo jet Captain goes public and tells you his aircraft was followed by an object the size of two aircraft carriers over Northern Alaska, its time to sit up and take notice. When the whole incident is recorded on audio, and on radar, and corroborated by ground controllers and the rest of the aeroplane crew, and is unwavering to this day, its time to wonder what the hell these people encountered. What started as two lights ahead of the plane and a question of whether there was military traffic in the area certainly escalated, and pretty quickly. There are drawings out there made by the captain of what he saw, and it must have been terrifying and exquisitely tantalising at the same time.

Zimbabwe School Landing Kids make things up, right? Everyone knows kids are prone to flights of fancy. However, when 62 of them all claim that a UFO landed right next to their school, the day after a mass UFO sighting in Zimbabwe, and that some form of alien entity approached them, scaring them half to death you have to start to wonder what they saw. This case has baffled psychiatrists who have investigated it and walked away believing that the children are definitely scarred from some kind of incident. The story has also stood the test of time, with the witnesses never changing any details as they have grown up. It makes for interesting and (potentially) chilling reading.
Lonnie Zamora Incident In recent years, people have tried to explain this case away, suggesting that Lonnie Zamora was the victim of a prank. I say that those explanations are crap, bought about by someone trying to make a name for themselves in UFOlogy. Zamora was a well respected cop with no reason whatsoever to lie about what he saw and this case has all the hallmarks of something unusual. Police officer sighting, corroborating witnesses to something unusual in the area, ground evidence and traces of activity - so much so that J.Allen Hynek described it as a genuine unknown.
The Cosford Incident This is one of EX-MOD investigator turned UFO researcher Nick Pope's favourite UFO incidents. That should be enough to pique anyone's curiosity and it seems that something really rather huge and triangular shaped traversed a large chunk of British airspace in 1993. It was sighted by multiple independent witnesses, including RAF personnel at two separate bases. Made even more unusual by the fact that there was satellite debris re-re-entering the atmosphere at one point during the evening (the times of sightings differ from that of the re-entry) AND even more extraordinary by the responses to Nicks investigation and answers/questions from the US government, this is one my standout cases, and one that keeps me looking up hoping it'll come back one day.
There are other compelling cases, but I won't run through them all because I'm interested in what you guys might want to add to the list of "the best" with one caveat - no Roswel (its been done to death) - throw some more of your faves at me, or give me your thoughts on what I've listed above?

The FBI opened “The Vault“—a library of documents released to the public through the Freedom of Information Act—in 2011. In the following two years, a particular document now known as the “Hottel Memo” received nearly a million views.
It was written on March 22, 1950, by Guy Hottel, then head of the FBI field office in Washington, D.C. It states:
“An investigator for the Air Forces stated that three so-called flying saucers had been recovered in New Mexico. They were described as being circular in shape with raised centers, approximately 50 feet in diameter. Each one was occupied by three bodies of human shape but only three feet tall, dressed in metallic cloth of a very fine texture. Each body was bandaged in a manner similar to the blackout suits used by speed fliers and test pilots.”

In 2013, the FBI made a public statement on the memo, since it had received widespread attention.
Some people had connected the memo to the alleged conspiracy to cover up a UFO crash in Roswell, New Mexico. The FBI stated, “The Hottel memo is dated nearly three years after the infamous events in Roswell in July 1947. There is no reason to believe the two are connected.”
After initial reports that a UFO crashed in Roswell, the military said it was a weather balloon that had crashed.
The FBI said it did not further investigate the saucers reported by Hottel: “The Hottel memo does not prove the existence of UFOs; it is simply a second- or third-hand claim that we never investigated.”

In 2011 opende de FBI ‘The Vault’, een digitale bibliotheek waarin allerlei vrijgegeven documenten zijn opgeslagen. In de jaren erna werd één specifiek document bijna een miljoen keer bekeken.
De memo is op 22 maart 1950 geschreven door FBI-agent Guy Hottel. De memo leest als volgt:
“Drie zogenoemde vliegende schotels zijn aangetroffen in New Mexico. Ze worden omschreven als cirkelvormig en bol in het midden, met een diameter van ongeveer 15 meter. Elke schotel was bemand door drie lichamen met menselijke vormen. Ze waren echter slechts een meter groot, gekleed in een verfijnde metaalachtige stof. In het document is de naam van de inspecteur die deze onthullingen tegenover Hottel deed geschrapt. Bovendien is er geen melding gemaakt van de datum van de ontdekking.
In 2013 kwam de FBI met een verklaring naar buiten over de memo, omdat er zoveel aandacht voor was. Sommige mensen brachten de memo in verband met de vermeende cover-up rond het Roswellincident in juli 1947 in New Mexico. Looking up in that direction over the tree line, I first observed 2 fast moving F-15 fighter jets traveling in formation. They were about 10,000 ft above ground level and heading north. I knew these were fast movers because both had multiple blinking lights and I could hear the distant but distinct roar of their jet prop engines. Other than my own vast military experience directly using numerous types of these air platforms to include the B-52 and B-1 Stealth Bombers for close air support during combat Operations during the invasion in Northern Iraq in 2003, it was not at all uncommon to routinely observe numerous types of military aircraft in the skies around Camp Mackall. There are active runways at Mackall Army Airfield and Luzon Drop zone both of which are within the immediate training area, frequently used in support of military training and airborne operations.
I lifted my PVS 14 night vision goggles (NVG’s) to my eye so I could get a better look at them in the night sky and it was at that time to my complete surprise I noticed something startling. Approximately a mile in front of the two planes at a significantly lower altitude of approximately 2000 to 3000 ft above ground level, was something unimaginable that I immediately knew I had never seen before. Immensely larger than the fighter jets behind it or for that matter any other aircraft I have ever seen it was what I estimated to be about the size of an NFL Football Stadium. The vessel was triangular in shape, gunmetal or carbon black in color, making absolutely no sound as it flew ominously straight line and precisely steady undoubtedly under some form of highly advanced intelligent navigational control. I immediately brought the sight to the attention of my assistant instructor who then also observed it as well. Though my (NVG’s) I could see that the unknown craft had at least one light located at each corner of the triangle under its massive dark outline blackening out the night sky behind it, however upon lowering my optics the lights appeared to be pale blue in color and barely visible with the naked eye. Awestruck, we stood and watched this amazing spectacle pass directly over us and for the span of about 2 minutes until it disappeared over the low tree line with the two jets in trail towards the small town of Hoffman, NC, on the horizon to our north. About a minute later while we were attempting to rationalize what we had just witnessed, it reappeared having had changed direction, returning from over the same northern tree line now heading south and bit further to our west. There were now three fighters in formation behind it and the craft seemed to have pulled further in front traveling at a higher rate of speed. By this time the majority of our 15 student squad had sensed our excitement, overheard our conversation and was now also watching the event curiously as the triangle and following jets disappeared again this time over the tree line to the southwest. In an immediate after action review and analysis with my assistant who is also a senior Special Forces operator, we both agreed that the fighters behind the craft seemed to be in pursuit rather than in escort. There must be record of the sortie as I imagine they flew out of Pope AFB co-located with Fort Bragg 30 miles east. There is also a possibility the event was observed by radar by the air control tower at Mackall Army Airfield which is in constant operation positioned approximately 3 miles northeast from the location of the sighting.
Again, although having served in special operations for many years with vast experience working with helicopters, fighters and bombers in support during training as well as combat operations, I am absolutely positive that I have never seen or encountered anything even close to the advanced level of technology we observed that night. Its massive size and capacity of flight in absolute silence and complete absence of any force propulsion disturbance such as wind defies all reason and known laws of physics. In my opinion it was definitely not something made by human hands and moved as though it could have possibly been using some type of electromagnetic anti gravitational method of propulsion. Immediately following this incident my assistant and I debated if we should even share this story in concern of our professional credibility and or sanity but the very next morning a news story appeared in the Richmond County Daily Journal that there had been numerous other sightings reported in the area that night including one from a law enforcement officer, a Sheriff’s Deputy in Wadesboro, NC, which was also reported to MUFON. Although I have since searched the papers online digital archives for the article to no avail, I still maintain an original copy of that report in my personal possession. It is a night I will never forget.

Earthquake Lights (EQLs) seem to be old phenomena. Irish engineer and amateur seismologist Robert Mallet published a catalogue in 1851-1855, where he dated back EQLs to Biblical times, interpreting descriptions of fire-columns in the Bible as early observations of EQLs. The Italian priest and naturalist Ignazio Galli published in 1910 a first classification scheme of EQLs. In his book Raccolta e classificazione dei fenomeni luminosi osservati nei terremoti (Collection and Classification of luminous phenomena observed during earthquakes) he recognized four types: short-lasting (just a few seconds) and long-lasting (for minutes or hours) diffuse lights, flares and luminescent clouds and finally moving orbs of light.
He also noted that the different EQL types show different temporal patterns. For example, short-lasting lights like flashes occur mostly before a quake, clouds and orbs during a quake and flames after. However, nobody could explain the origin of these apparitions. One of the most plausible explanations at the time, proposed by Italian seismologist Giovanni Ciuseppe Bianconi in 1840, explained the lights as burning gas (“Swamp gas?” as agent Mulder would state), coming from fissures opening during a quake. However, burning gas could explain only small flames, not large-scale glowing clouds.
For a long time, only anecdotal accounts and tales existed and most seismologist didn´t take accounts of EQLs very serious. It wasn’t until 1973 that Japanese geologist Yutaka Yasui provided some photographic evidence, showing glowing reddish and blue clouds in the sky above the city of Matsushiro during a series of earthquakes occurring between 1965 and 1967.
So EQLs seem to be a real thing, however, we still don´t know exactly why they occur. Today’s best explanation considers electromagnetic effects behind the atmospheric glow; this could also explain reports of malfunctioning electronic devices (especially telephones) during such events. Electric charges can accumulate over time during the tectonic deformation of rocks, during an earthquake this energy is suddenly released in form of a visible spark. EQLs could also be a sort of glowing gas, formed by the ionizing properties of this energy.
Some researchers made even a connection of EQLs to another, supposedly unexplained phenomenon – Unidentified Flying Objects, or UFOs. In 1977, psychologists Michael A. Persinger and Ghislaine Lafreniere published the book Space-Time Transients and Unusual Events, arguing that UFOs are misidentified electric sparks from underground caused by accumulated electric charges.
Going even further, some UFOlogists speculated that the generated electric fields are strong enough to influence a bystander´s mind and cause hallucinations. To support their hypothesis the authors tried to correlate UFOs sightings with seismic zones in the U.S. However, there also seems to be a high correlation with booze consumption…

N.J.'s own 'X-Files': 1 town's mysterious and complicated UFO sighting
Do you believe in aliens and UFOs? From unexplained phenomena, to known hoaxes, and popular culture depictions N.J. has had its share of alien experiences. More than 1,800 UFO sightings have been reported to the National UFO reported center as of Aug. 2015.
But whether you believe in UFOs or are just a fan of the show, many people in New Jersey have claimed sightings through the years, and one state township's little-known UFO history, beginning with a mysterious 1970s sighting, serves as a reminder that the "truth (could be) out there."
North Bergen: A little-known UFO history
It was after 2 a.m. on Jan. 12, 1975.
72-year-old George O'Barski was on his way home, after finishing up his work as a liquor store owner in New York City.
Suddenly, as he was driving through a short-cut in North Hudson Park, O'Barski later would say, his car radio suddenly filled with static.
A brightly lit 30-foot-long domed aircraft descended, he claimed.
O'Barski said about 11 3.5-feet-tall helmeted, "uniformed figures" had walked out of the craft and quickly taken soil samples, before the spacecraft flew away within four minutes.
The sighting was later covered covered in The Village Voice, in March 1976.
Is North Bergen a UFO capital?A UFO tracker, professor, & local spokespeople sound off
1. North Bergen police spokesman Captain Patrick Irwin...had not gotten any UFO calls in 25 years.
"None."
2. North Bergen spokesman Phil Swibinski... had not heard about the sightings.
"North Bergen is known as a progressive community where people really care about each other and residents love to live here because of its cultural diversity, stable property taxes and great public schools, among many other reasons. A few UFO sightings several years ago are not especially relevant to the township's image."
3. Saint Peter's University's Communication Professor Barna Donovan (who studies conspiracy theories)... found the 1975 incident intriguing.
"By (1975) UFO movies were kind of passé... Something like the O'Barski case, if I personally was sitting in the basement of a real-life X-Files office, and I had to stamp this, I would probably say 'This is unexplained.' With all that detail, either it's true or he's making it up."
But he was highly skeptical.
"We're so close to three major airports and so many smaller regional airports. Basically the skies are so full of flying objects, it's so easy to misidentify things... Why would aliens want to go take soil samples in a place as busy, as crowded, as Hudson County?"
4. Washington-based National UFO Reporting Center Director Peter Davenport (who has recorded 1,910 alleged UFO sightings in N.J.)... had not heard of North Bergen's mid-1970s sighting or its UFO reputation.
"I have yet to find a settlement or a city or a village that doesn't claim it has a hot spot with UFO activity... (but I hold) Budd Hopkins's work in very high regard."
Evidence existed that O'Barski was telling the truth, Hopkins claimed: marks in the ground, and a mysteriously shattered glass window in the lobby of the iconic Stonehenge apartment building across the street, where the doorman told Hopkins he had seen unusual bright lights about 10 feet off the ground.
The end... or is it?
After that, some people in North Bergen were scared, and others were claiming sightings.
Bose Bozicevic, a retired North Bergen police officer, remembers the commotion.
When he was a high school student in North Bergen, Bozicevic and his 17- and 18-year-old friends thought the UFO stories were hilarious: "UFOs? Yeah, right," he said.
To test people's gullibility, his friends once even dressed Bozicevic in tinfoil, gave him a WWII gas mask from one of their grandfather's closets — and then unleashed him in North Hudson park.
"They start screaming 'oh there, he is!' People were freaked out by seeing me. I thought it was pretty obvious this is somebody just (messing) around. The police, they see me in the distance. My buddies take off, but I got tinfoil all over me, as you can imagine," Bozicevic recalled.
"I start jogging away. I hear one of the bystanders screaming 'Shoot him! Shoot him! He ate my grandmother!' As I'm running, I'm ripping the tin foil off. It looked like Forest Gump."
The irony is that about 10 years later, Bozicevic became a police officer, and he was on duty on Park Avenue near the Guttenberg-North Bergen border when he would have his own seeming UFO sighting.
His story has gotten him more than enough grief from his smirking officer buddies, he says, but he shares it anyway.
At about 4 a.m. one Sunday morning in the 1980s, as he was in the midst of writing a parking citation, Bozicevic heard a whirring in a desolate street, he said, and then saw a "ship, a something," with bright lights, float over his head, "inches" above the buildings.
"I remember reaching for the radio on the car to call something in. I was holding it and I was looking at this thing and I put it down. I said 'nah,'" he said. "As I reached 79th Street, the thing made a right and went sideways and just went 'zsst' and disappeared right down past the Hudson River... I was like, 'Wow, nobody can corroborate this.'"
A Stonehenge maintenance worker, who did not give his name because he wasn't authorized to speak, told NJ Advance Media this past fall that he believed the Stonehenge never learned why that window smashed.
"No rhyme or reason, supposedly," he said. "It was just a very strange set of circumstances that took place that day."
North Bergen has an interesting story but it's not special when it comes to UFO sightings: Based on the New Jersey database from the National UFO Reporting Center, there have been numerous UFO sightings reported all around the state for the past several decades, and counting. (Check to see if your town is a UFO hotspot here.)
However, in some ways, the North Bergen 1970s sighting was relatively unique among New Jersey sightings: the month of January, and a sighting time of around 2 a.m., are relatively rare, based on a National UFO Reporting Center data analysis, through Fall 2015.
