TIJD VOOR OPENHEID BUITENAARDSE BASES IN MEXICO (VIDEO )

Al vele jaren lang laten wij de meest bizarre en ongewone gebeurtenissen zien rondom de Mexicaanse vulkanen en helemaal niemand doet er iets mee. 

Ook nu duikt er weer een enorm ruimteschip de Colima vulkaan binnen en wordt het hoog tijd dat er eindelijk iets gaat gebeuren. 

De wereld heeft er een handje van om bepaalde dingen categorisch te negeren. We doen net alsof we gek zijn, dan bestaat het niet en gaat het vanzelf wel weer weg. 

Voor ons is één van de grootste raadsels ter wereld het feit dat er bij de VN in New York niet druk wordt vergaderd over de zo langzamerhand spookachtige dingen die in Mexico plaatsvinden. 

Vreemde, bizarre en volkomen onverklaarbare zaken rondom de bekende Mexicaanse vulkanen zoals Popocatépetl en Colima. 

Niet alleen is daar druk UFO-verkeer waar te nemen in alle vormen en soorten, voor het eerst hebben we eigenlijk ook bewijs dat enorme ruimteschepen de vulkanen induiken op weg naar hun ondergrondse basis. 

Zoals dat gebeurde eind oktober 2012 toen een ongeveer kilometer lang ruimteschip verdween in het binnenste van de vulkaan. 

 

Op het moment dat dit gebeurde, vertoonde een Mexicaanse weerradar het volgende:

Onderstaande afbeelding is afkomstig van de weerradar van Intellicast van 27 oktober, de dag dat een UFO de vulkaan Popocatépetl in vloog. Het beeld de hele dag online tot en met 28 oktober.

Hier zie je heel duidelijk de vorm van de vortex.

Het centrum van de vortex ligt precies op de plaats waar de vulkaan zich bevindt. Dit toeval lijkt ons te groot om geen verband te hebben met de Ufo die op datzelfde moment de vulkaan binnenvloog. 

Wetenschappers hebben nog steeds geen idee en een nieuwsbericht van Televisa, het station wat de opname heeft gemaakt, laat weten dat men heeft uitgerekend dat de snelheid waarmee het object naar binnenvloog, groter was dan die van een vliegtuig. 

Ufologen wereldwijd zijn van mening dat het óf een basis betreft in de vulkaan, vergelijkbaar met de basis van Marconi in de Andes, óf dat het een ingang betreft naar de Holle Aarde. Een combinatie van beiden zou ook nog een mogelijkheid zijn. 

In de loop der jaren zijn dit soort fenomenen gewoon doorgegaan en het is dan ook de inmiddels wereldberoemde Streetcap1 die weer zo’n enorm ruimteschip heeft weten te vangen die een Mexicaanse vulkaan binnenvliegt. 

Hij heeft dit gedaan door eenvoudigweg de publieke webcambeelden te bestuderen, waarop je op een gegeven moment kunt zien dat een soort identiek ruimteschip als degene hierboven, in dit geval de Colima vulkaan, in duikt. 

 

Jarenlang gaan dit soort dingen nu door en er gebeurt helemaal niets. 

Hebben wij als mensheid zo weinig belangstelling voor wat er gebeurt op onze aarde en in de ruimte om ons heen? Sluiten wij bewust de ogen omdat we bang zijn voor het onbekende? 

Waarom wordt er niet eens een wereldwijde (Facebook)actie gestart en een poging gedaan 2016-02-17eindelijk eens onderzoek te doen naar de vreemde, bizarre en niet natuurlijke gebeurtenissen rondom de Mexicaanse vulkanen. 

Waarom krijgt de elite alles voor elkaar wat ze willen en laat de bevolking zich keer op keer als een klein kind zonder eten naar bed sturen? 

Wij zijn met veel en zij met weinig.

Obama’s Response to Question about Aliens Intrigues UFO-Alien Researchers

The television show “The Ellen Show” has caught the attention of UFO/alien enthusiasts as U.S. President Barack Obama guested on the show and answered questions about aliens.

It wasn’t the first time the president responded to this kind of question, but this time, a girl was the questioner. Obama responses, as in the past, are characterized as bit humorous but at the same time don’t deny the issue, leading to many speculations about the real meaning of them.

The little girl asks if aliens are real, and Obama replies with another question “Well, what do you think?” She tells the president that she believes they are real after seeing a TV program. Obama throws some jokes and then replies:

“The truth is we haven’t made direct contact with aliens yet, but when we do I’ll let you know.”

Some speculate that if no direct contact yet, there are already an indirect contact. Others say that the word “yet” implies that the government knows direct contact will soon to happen.

Astronomers who study how planetary formation can happen around binary star systems get the help of new images from the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array.

A TALE OF TWO STARS

To us, with our one lonely star, binary systems seem foreign and strange—like rare diamonds in the sky. But in reality, a vast number of solar systems contain more than one sun. Imagining what the sky would look like on planets in such systems is a favorite pastime of artist and astronomer alike.

But how can such worlds form to begin with?

Indeed, astronomers have long struggled to comprehend how planets are able to form around binary stars. The gravitational pull of two massive stellar bodies would likely eject young planets from the system, or drag them into one of the star’s fiery infernos.

But observational evidence has shown that planets are indeed able to form (and maintain stable orbits) around binary stars.

Astronomers recently had a new, more detailed look at planetary formation around a binary star at a very early stage, and this may give us some answers to the aforementioned questions.

Ultimately, the latest view was achieved with the help of the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) at the Atacama desert in northern Chile. The researchers discovered a crescent-shaped region of dust without gas in the outer reaches of a double star’s protoplanetary disk. These findings provide fresh insights into a binary system’s potential to form planets and how such events unfold.

PROTOPLANETARY DISKS

To study this phenomenon, astronomers took a more detailed look at binary star HD 142527and the planet-forming disk around it. The binary system is 450 light-years away from Earth in a cluster of known as Scorpius-Centaurus Association.

The HD 142527 system consists of a large star and a smaller companion star that is separated by 1.6 billion km (1 billion miles), which is about the distance between Saturn and the Sun.

Astronomer Andrea Isella, of Rice University in Houston, notes that scientists were previously well aware of the disk surrounding the star, and that the latest image reveals important insights: “this binary system has long been known to harbor a planet-forming corona of dust and gas. The new ALMA images reveal previously unseen details about the physical processes that regulate the formation of planets around this and perhaps many other binary systems.”

The press release details what was seen: “ALMA’s new, high-resolution images of HD 142527 show a broad elliptical ring around the double star. The disk begins incredibly far from the central star — about 50 times the Sun-Earth distance. Most of it consists of gases, including two forms of carbon monoxide (13CO and C180), but there is a noticeable dearth of gases within a huge arc of dust that extends nearly a third of the way around the star system.”

Astronomers hope to better understand the nature of planet formation across the Universe by studying a wider range of protoplanetary disks with ALMA. But as previously noted, some information has already come to light.

“The temperature is so low that the gas turns into ice and sticks to the grains,” Isella said. “This process is thought to increase the capacity for dust grains to stick together, making it a strong catalyst for the formation of planetesimals, and, down the line, of planets.”

The new images of HD 142527 show a crescent-shaped dust cloud that possibly results from gravitational forces that are unique to binary stars.

“There are between a few hundred and a few thousands we can look at again with ALMA to find new and surprising details. That’s the beauty of ALMA. Every time you get new data, it’s like opening a present. You don’t know what’s inside” said Isella.

The Immortals Behind the Stars (Op-Ed)

The ancient Greeks called constellations katasterismoi, meaning "placings of the stars" — placed by the gods. The Greeks believed the Olympians put those people, animals and objects in the heavens for a reason: to serve as unmistakable lessons on proper behavior. Often, entire stories play out across the sky, traced from one constellation to the next. 

Much of the zodiac (a word coined from the Greek zodiakos kuklos, or "circle of little animals") represents beasts defeated by the great hero Heracles as part of his labors, such as Leo the Nemean Lion, Cancer the Crab, and Taurus the Cretan Bull. Other tales are even more bloody and brutish, reminding humanity of the punishments that await mortals who refuse to pay homage to the gods.

Artemis, the virgin Greek goddess of the hunt, is credited with "placing" more than her fair share of constellations — Ursa Major, Orion and Corvus, to name a few. So many, in fact, that one of her more poetic monikers is Lady of the Starry Host. [Hail Hydra! A Monstrous Constellation Explained ]

My book "The Immortals" (Orbit Books, 2016) is a contemporary fantasy about Artemis, who now prowls the shadows of modern Manhattan under the name Selene DiSilva, defending women from the men who abuse them. Like so many New Yorkers, Selene rarely sees the heavens above — too much light pollution, too many skyscrapers. But when she does, she reads her own history in the patterns of the stars. 

Today, we know that humans arbitrarily codified the constellations — there is no scientific reason to group the stars. Yet civilizations throughout history have identified constellations, and even now we still call them by their old Greek or Roman names for a reason: The myths make the stars seem a little less distant , the universe a little less vast. Call that anthropocentric hubris if you like, but it's a universal impulse nonetheless.

So why fight it? Much of our astronomical knowledge, from the identification of the zodiac to the prediction of eclipses, dates back to the ancient world. Sure, they believed in a geocentric universe, but they got a lot of other stuff right. And if nothing else, the myths are as captivating, dramatic and action-packed as any modern blockbuster. 

As a primarily oral civilization, the ancient Greeks told many versions of the constellation myths, so there's never one "correct" story. What we do know comes from rare and often fragmentary written sources. But, as a writer, that's part of why I love mythology: There's always room for our own imagination to fill in the blanks. 

Here are a few of my favorite stories behind the stars.

Orion: Artemis's lost love

Orion is the sole male hunting companion of the chaste Artemis . He wants to marry her, but her jealous twin brother Apollo can't let that happen. One day, when Orion is swimming far out at sea, Apollo points to the speck on the horizon and dares his sister to strike the target with her arrows. She accepts the challenge and, being the Goddess of Archery, easily hits the mark. When she realizes her brother has betrayed her, and that she has murdered her friend, she places Orion's body in the stars. Another version of the tale, less personally engaging but more ecologically relevant, claims that Orion boasted that he could kill all the beasts of the Earth and that, as punishment for his hubris, Artemis sent a scorpion to kill him, later turning them both into constellations so they could continue their chase for eternity. Even now, as Orion sets, Scorpius rises. 

Ursa Major: The cursed she-bear

The beautiful princess Callisto swears herself to Artemis as a chaste hunting companion. Zeus, the King of the Gods (and a notorious womanizer), seduces the princess anyway. When Artemis notices Callisto's swollen belly, she turns the girl into a she-bear as punishment for breaking her vow of chastity. Years later, Callisto's son, Arcas, sees a bear wandering through the temple grounds. Unaware that the bear is his mother, he sends an arrow through its heart. Callisto ascends to the heavens as Ursa Major, the Great Bear, and Arcas as either Ursa Minor or Boötes, which the Greeks originally called Arctophylax, or Bear-Watcher.

Cassiopeia: The boastful queen

Anyone who saw "Clash of the Titans" might remember that Cassiopeia's daughter, Andromeda, was a princess chained to a rock as an offering to a great sea monster. The hero Perseus defeats the monster, saves the princess, and wins himself a bride. But why was she chained up in the first place? Because Cassiopeia bragged that her daughter was more beautiful than the sea nymphs. Poseidon, the Sea God, sends fearsome Cetus the Whale to attack the city as punishment for the queen's hubris. To commemorate the story, the gods placed the entire family, including Andromeda's father, Cepheus, in the stars. For her boasting, Cassiopeia must traverse the heavens lying on her back. Corvus: The Tattling Crow

Apollo's pregnant lover Coronis, a princess of Thessaly, betrays him by sleeping with a mortal warrior. The god learns of her infidelity from the crow (or raven), his sacred bird. Enraged, Apollo sends his sister, Artemis, to slay Coronis with arrows. But as the princess lies dead on her funeral pyre, Apollo regrets his wrath: He cuts his unborn son from his mother's womb. The baby grows up to be Asclepius, the hero-god of medicine, often identified as the constellation Ophiuchus, the Serpent-Bearer, who carries the snake-twined rod now commonly associated with doctors. To punish the loose-beaked crow, Apollo turns its white feathers black and then banishes it to the heavens. As further punishment, Apollo places the Water-Serpent constellation HYDRA to guard the stars of Crater, the sacred Cup, so that the crow can never slake its thirst. Coronis's Hydra means "crow," while Corvus means "raven." Thus, the constellation Corvus honors them both.

After living for millennia without worship, Selene DiSilva no longer possesses the supernatural powers of Artemis, the goddess she once was. Like all the Athanatoi —Those Who Do Not Die — she has faded into a nearly mortal existence. Now, as a newly-revived ancient Greek cult murders virgin women in the streets of modern Manhattan, Selene finds her old powers suddenly revived. But she doesn't know why…

Selene opened the window wide and knelt before the sill, looking up at the sky above the rooftops. Even now, at the darkest hour before dawn, it shone with an unearthly glow. 

Selene knew it was just light pollution bouncing off the clouds above, but sometimes she imagined the city possessed the sort of divine radiance once reserved for the gods. Just as in ancient times the Olympians had chosen to walk among mortals in disguise rather than reveal themselves in all their terrible glory, so New York clothed itself in dirt and noise and stench. Its true power would be too much for mortal eyes to bear. 

"Imagine, Hippo," she said as the dog rested her chin on the windowsill. "Once I was the Lady of the Starry Host." She'd placed her victims in the heavens as eternal reminders of her rage and mercy. First Ursa Major—a nymph who broke her vows of chastity and was metamorphosed into a bear by Artemis's uncompromising justice. Then Ursa Minor—the son of that illicit union who met the same fate. "But now, even the strongest Athanatoi no longer possess the ability to make men into stars. Especially not here, where the stars themselves are hidden from view. New York's radiance outshines my own." 

Over the centuries she'd watched the city's lights quench heaven's fire. With the constellations' disappearance, the history written in their outlines — her own history — dimmed alongside. She'd always imagined herself fading as well. Slowly, imperceptibly, disappearing into myth. But now, for the first time in an age, she felt hope. 

She knew the most obvious explanation for her strengthening, and she didn't want to face it. She could barely admit it to herself. It was possible that her mother's decline was adding to her own strength. With one fewer god to siphon away the limited worship man still provided, the remaining Athanatoi might benefit. 

Father, she prayed silently. Mighty Zeus, who once granted me six wishes, grant me one more. Help me find the answers I seek. Let my rebirth not come from my mother's death. And if you ever loved gentle Leto, help me save her. She closed her eyes and imagined her words reaching up to the vault of heaven, then soaring past the city, over the vast ocean, all the way to Zeus's lair on the island of Crete. And there the prayer died. Because her father could no longer hear. 

Since the Diaspora, Zeus had lost his strength and his wits, eventually breaking his own vow of exile and returning to the Cave of Psychro, where he'd spent his infancy. In the nineteenth century, her half-brother Hermes had finally dared visit the Father of the Gods. 

"By day, he looks up at the sky through the cave's mouth and watches the clouds pass," he told the Huntress afterward. "He waves his hands about as if he would bend the wind to his whim, and pouts when the sky doesn't obey. He's gone mad, Sister. There's moss in his hair and mold on his skin. By night, he crawls from the cave and raids the flocks of nearby farmers, eating sheep and goats raw. Mostly, though, he lives on bats and worms." 

"Maybe that's all this is," Selene said to Hippo, rising to her feet and reaching for the bow leaning against the windowsill. "My own inevitable descent into madness." She twirled a shaft between her fingers before settling it against the arrow rest. "Maybe this is all a dream." 

She sighted between the swaying branches of an oak over a hundred yards away on the border of the park, noting the skittering movement of a squirrel. It dashed down one branch then up another, hidden in the shadows of night. "Maybe I'm not going to make this shot," Selene said quietly. Then she loosed the arrow. A heartbeat later, the wind carried the faintest of squeals to the Huntress's ear. She lowered her bow. "For tonight, at least, I'm the Far Shooter. The Huntress. The Swiftly Bounding One. Go ahead," she said, looking down at Hippo. "Pick an epithet. I've got dozens." 

The dog just cocked her head, oblivious. 

For the first time in a long time, Selene wished she had a real friend. Can you see me, Orion? she wondered. Do you revel in my return to power — or dread it?

She looked up to where the scudding clouds left bare a patch of night sky and felt her triumph slip away. In a painful irony, the only stars bright enough to outshine the city lights were those that most tormented her. A star for each broad shoulder, a star for each strong leg, three stars slung in a glittering belt and a last for his sword. Cold, remote, a bare suggestion of a man, light years away from the one she'd known. Yet in the dark gaps of night, she saw strong limbs and fierce eyes, curling hair and a flashing smile. Orion, at once infinitely distant and just beyond reach, stared down like a reproachful judge upon the woman who'd loved him. The woman who'd killed him. The woman who'd placed him in the heavens as an eternal reminder of her guilt, her shame, her heartbreak.

Selene rose and moved to her narrow bed. She thought suddenly of Theodore Schultz. He too had lost someone he loved. But in every photo, friends surrounded him, smiling, laughing, touching. He would grieve, but — unlike Selene — he would not be alone. 

She fell asleep with the wind streaming across her face from the open window. For the first time in centuries, she dreamed Orion was with her. He smelled like the dry hills of Attica. Like oregano crushed underfoot. Like sweat and heat and the thrill of the chase. His warm flesh pressed against her back. His fingertips traced a line of fire up her arm, to her neck, where his lips, rough and wind burnt, pressed a kiss into the hollow of her ear. 

With the frenzy of a drowning woman, Selene pulled herself from the dream and sat up, sure Orion was there. She imagined she could still smell him on the wind. But dawn reddened the sky, the stars had been put to flight, and she was alone.

Analysts Might Have Just Found First Evidence of Intelligent Life on Mars

There are countless anomalies surprised by NASA’ rovers on the surface of Mars, and although most of them resemble artifacts left behind by a former civilization, or even biological life forms, there is still no conclusive evidence of intelligent design. However, the latest images beaconed by Opportunity rover might turn the tides in this matter.

 

 

What if the artifacts found all across the Martian soil act only as a distraction from the bigger picture? What if the ground level details are only meant to mask the real activity that’s happening up in the sky? Indeed, more and more reports of UFOs are surfacing from the vigilant UFO analysts that are constantly on the lookout for anomalies on Mars.

 

In the last few months, bizarre dots were found in some of the pictures sent by the rovers, and although at first, skeptics believed they were the result of common phenomenon such as lens flares or even dust, they soon realized the opposite after further photos revealed moving objects in consecutive frames.

 

The most recent case of a UFO on the Red Planet comes from Opportunity rover’s camera, and it reveals an unidentified flying device while in motion. The spectacular image has been highlighted by Streetcap1 of YouTube, who also provided us with an official NASA link to diminish all doubts. The photo clearly shows how a UFO is flying over a nearby hill on a serene sol on Mars. The object leaves a trail behind, indicating its trajectory and from where it came from. Could this surprising image prove that highly intelligent entities exist on the planet?

 

 

According to UFO analysts, the UFO could be a surveillance drone spying on NASA’ rover. It could be either remote controlled or piloted by something (or someone). Judging by the distance, the device is flying at a relatively low altitude and appears to have medium proportions. It leaves a trail behind which is a clear indicator of movement. Other than this, the fact that it is found near Opportunity indicates a certain level of interest in the rover.

 

Scott Waring from ufosightingsdaily also confirmed the above mentioned after he closely analyzed the NASA image:

 

Reports of strange things in rover photos never seem to cease, but it’s always the public that reports them, he wrote on his site. Here, Streetcap1 of YouTube caught an object not too far in the distance that is moving from right to left of the screen. There is a faded trail behind it, a distortion of sorts which tells us the direction it came from. It looks like the spacecraft in the distance is watching the Opportunity rover, observing it.

 

If these concerns prove to be true, could Mars be hiding a tremendous secret? Is it possible that NASA already knows about this and is keeping the general public in a cone of shadow? After all, it only takes 9 months to reach the Martian soil, so the space agency is bound to have more insight regarding what is happening on the neighboring planet.

 

From our perspective, the mysterious black dot could be a fine example of artificial intelligence found in space. Either that, or NASA has a black budged program that’s already operating on Mars. However, since many brilliant minds on Earth discussed the possibility of artificially intelligent beings found in outer space, we find the first mentioned hypothesis more likely than the other. If the renowned space agency knows about this, they will probably reveal more information when they’ll be certain of it. Until then, we can only speculate at what awaits us in the big red wasteland, but day by day the truth becomes harder and harder to swallow. [Official NASA link]

Gas Cloud Flung Out of Milky Way Is Coming Back for Revenge

This time, it's personal. A massive cloud ejected from the outskirts of the Milky Way galaxy about 70 million years ago is now hurtling back toward the disk at breakneck speed.

The boomeranged collection of gas, known as Smith's Cloud, was discovered in 1963, and scientists say it will collide with the Milky Way in about 30 million years. But a new study looking the composition of the cloud shows that it shares a similar chemical signature as the outer disk of the Milky Way.

Smith's Cloud is 11,000 light-years long by 2,500 light-years wide (for comparison, the Milky Way is about 100,000 light-years in diameter), and is speeding toward the Milky Way at nearly 700,000 miles per hour. While it is invisible to the naked eye, if humans could see it in the night sky, it would appear to be about 30 times the size of the full moon, according to NASA. To determine the cloud's composition, the authors of the new research used NASA's Hubble Space Telescope. As light from background galaxies passes through the cloud, certain chemical elements inside the cloud absorb the light in specific wavelengths. The dips in brightness reveal which elements are present within the cloud. The researchers looked for sulfur, which provides a good gauge of how many elements heavier than hydrogen and helium are contained by the object.

"By measuring sulfur, you can learn how enriched in sulfur atoms the cloud is compared to the sun," lead author Andrew Fox, of the Space Telescope Science Center in Baltimore, said in a statement from the University of Notre Dame, where one of his co-authors is based.

Fox and his colleagues found that the cloud is as rich in sulfur as the outer disk of the Milky Way, a region filled with material created by stars and spread when they exploded into supernovas. This region is about 40,000 light-years from the galactic center.

If the starless cloud originated from the depths of space, as some have proposed, it would contain only hydrogen and helium. The new study reveals that upon collision, the fresh supply of gas should kick-start star formation in the galaxy. It contains enough gas to generate two million suns, according to the statement.

"We have found several massive clouds in the Milky Way halo that may serve as future fuel for star formation in its disk, but, for most of them, their origins remain a mystery," said Nicolas Lehner, of the University of Notre Dame, in the statement. "The Smith Cloud is certainly one of the best examples that shows that recycled gas is an important mechanism for the evolution of galaxies."

The research was published in the Astrophysical Journal Letters.

China zal bijna 10.000 mensen uit hun woning zetten voor de goede werking van de grootste radiotelescoop ter wereld, een enorm gevaarte dat onder meer op zoek moet gaan naar buitenaards leven. Dat hebben de staatsmedia dinsdag gemeld.

De wetenschappers noemen het ding de "Five-hundred-metre Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope" of FAST. Het zal zich in een geïsoleerd ruraal gebied in de zuidoostelijke provincie Guizhou spreiden over een oppervlakte van dertig voetbalvelden en moet nog in september in dienst treden.

De provinciale autoriteiten willen aldus tegen dan 9.110 bewoners van een gebied in een straal van vijf km rond de luisterpost onthemen, aldus het persbureau Nieuw China. De verhuizingen moeten een "betrouwbare omgeving in verband met elektromagnetische golven bewerkstelligen", zegt de door het staatspersbureau geciteerde hoge ambtenaar Li Yuecheng.

De bewuste mensen zullen een schadevergoeding van omgerekend 1.650 euro krijgen, sommigen krijgen bijkomende hulp.

De bouw van de FAST begon in maart 2011 en heeft al 165 miljoen euro gekost. De radiotelescoop overtreft met een diameter van 500 meter die van Arecibo op het eiland Puerto Rico die een diameter van 305 meter heeft.

In het verleden hebben al honderdduizenden Chinezen hun woning moeten verlaten in verband met enorme infrastructuurwerken zoals dammen en kanalen. Een groot aantal van die mensen klaagt over een te lage schadeloosstelling. Soms komt het ook tot geweld.

WETENSCHAP Britse wetenschappers en een doctoraatsstudente van de KU Leuven zijn erin geslaagd voor het eerst de atmosfeer van een superaarde te ontdekken. Naast het feit dat het op de "diamanten planeet" heel erg warm is, blijkt het er ook bijzonder giftig om te wonen, meldt het Institute of Astronomy (KU Leuven).

Superaardes zijn planeten buiten ons zonnestelsel die zwaarder zijn dan onze eigen aarde. Ze komen in onze Melkweg in grote getalen voor. 

Wetenschappers maakten gebruik van de NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescoop om een van die superaardes, de 55 Cancri e, te bestuderen. "Een dag op deze exoplaneet duurt 18 uren en de temperatuur aan het oppervlak loopt op tot 2.000 graden Celsius", zegt Olivia Venot (KU Leuven). "De planeet bevindt zich in een planetenstelsel rond 55 Cancri, een ster in het sterrenbeeld van de kreeft op ongeveer veertig lichtjaren van de aarde."

De superaarde 55 Cancri e heeft als bijnaam "de diamanten planeet", omdat op basis van massa en straal vermoed werd dat koolstof in de atmosfeer aanwezig is. "Niettegenstaande bleef het een verrassing dat grote hoeveelheden waterstofcyanide werden aangetroffen. Dergelijke hoeveelheden waterstof cyanide wijzen erop dat voor elk zuurstof atoom in de atmosfeer verschillende koolstofatomen aanwezig zijn." 

Een nieuwe generatie infraroodtelescopen moet over enkele jaren bevestigen of de planeet inderdaad rijk is aan koolstof, merkt professor Jonathan Tennyson (UCL) nog op. "Al is waterstofcyanide zeer giftig en is deze planeet misschien niet onze favoriete reisbestemming."

UFO over Buenos Aires – January 2016

Witness report: Around 22:45 a couple of days ago, I went outside to take some fresh air, and as I like to gaze the stars, I looked up. For my biggest surprise, I have seen something, that looked like nothing I have seen before. It was a mostly blue, redish spot on the sky, that was much larger than a star. It was moving, coming from Notheast, and at a 75 degree angle it stopped, and hovered in that position for about 2 minutes. I quickly grabbed my digital camera, and started recording it. I tried to zoom in to see if I can get a clearer picture of it, and astoundingly, I did. It was just like a dream, only that it was real. And it happened to me. In a circular arrangement I saw 6 lights. 2 red on the left, and 4 blue to the right. Also faintly 1 middle light could be seen blinking in pink. The lights appear as if they are spheres. Then it started to descend to the same direction where it came from. With zoom it was hard to follow it at this time. It disappeared beyond the rooftops. Not thinking about that it might come back, I rushed inside to download my footage and to tell others what happened. However, I was suspicious that it might be back, so I went outside, and there it was again. Seemed to follow the same pattern as earlier. But this time I arrived too late, and it was just about to disappear again, in the same direction where it came from, on Northeast. I have no way to tell the size of the aircraft, it might be much larger than the lights suggest. The distance I believe could not be too far, as it could be zoomed in on by a regular digital camera. I wish I had a better one on me, I could make a great quality footage, that no one have ever seen. It was still an unbelievable sighting.

They never moved from what I could see and they stayed in view through the clouds for 2 minutes or so as we passed. I took one photo, zoomed in a bit and took another. Both are taken with a cell phone.

Witness report: PLEASE! people think I am crazy and when I confide my profession dismiss me immediately. I was on a yacht cruising south of Catalina Island returning to L.A. after a weekend ‘party’ cruise. It was late Sunday night. I remained on deck after everyone else had gone below
except the helmsman. We encountered a fast moving fog and I saw balls of lightning zoom overhead. the boat rocked violently and dozens of flying fish broke the surface. A HUGE, pewter colored disk rose from the water and hovered overhead silently. I felt vertigo, my stomach lurch and felt myself floating in a beam of intense light.
My next memory was of someone pulling me to my feet by my arms. It was bright daylight and a USCG boat was alongside hailing us not to move. There were already armed sailors onboard who roughly handcuffed me and tried not to stare ( my bikini was missing) and men in suits in charge giving orders. My famous companion came out; very groggy and their attitude changed. They claimed we matched a drug runner. they let us go. My companion was upset about publicity and we raced to LA overdue.He told me never to tell anyone we were out and dropped all contact with me. I think I am being watched. I have flash memories and weird things going on physically. I am scared, ashamed without knowing why and nobody will listen.

These Are The Vehicles That Will Take You To Space

Virgin Galactic’s human spaceflight system consists of two vehicle types: WhiteKnightTwo and SpaceShipTwo. The first of each vehicle type was built by Scaled Composites, and all future vehicles in our spaceline fleet will be built by our sister company, The Spaceship Company.

WhiteKnightTwo

WhiteKnightTwo is a custom-built, four-engine, dual-fuselage jet aircraft. It is designed to carry SpaceShipTwo (or LauncherOne) up to an altitude of ~50,000 feet for safe and efficient air launch, a concept that was established by Chuck Yeager’s supersonic Bell X-1, the X-15, and of course SpaceShipOne.

WhiteKnightTwo’s signature design features are its twin fuselage configuration; single-piece, carbon composite high main wing; and four jet engines. The twin boom configuration allows for a spacious central attachment area between the two fuselages for SpaceShipTwo or LauncherOne.

WhiteKnightTwo’s pilots fly the plane from its right fuselage. In the future, with the right regulatory approvals, research experiments or even customers preparing for their flights to space may sit in the cabin of either fuselage.

The first WhiteKnightTwo, called Eve, has completed an extensive four-and-a-half year flight test program.

SpaceShipTwo

SpaceShipTwo is a reusable, winged spacecraft designed to repeatedly carry as many as eight people (including two pilots) into space — a larger total flight crew than any previous space mission except for NASA’s 8-member STS-61-A mission in 1985. Everyone on board SpaceShipTwo will earn official astronaut status, just like the pilots who flew the X-15 spaceplane.

SpaceShipTwo is powered by a hybrid rocket motor — one that combines elements of solid rockets and liquid rocket engines by using a solid fuel source and a liquid oxidizer. Hybrid rocket motors are not a new idea; they have been used in many other applications, including on SpaceShipOne. Although each type of rocket engine has important advantages for different applications (for example, LauncherOne uses liquid rocket engines), hybrids are particularly well suited for SpaceShipTwo because they can be shut down safely and quickly at any point during the flight, unlike solid motors, but do not require the cryogenic propellant tanks or complex plumbing needed by liquid rocket engines.

Like SpaceShipOne before it, SpaceShipTwo uses a unique system to safely re-enter the Earth’s atmosphere. With this system, SpaceShipTwo can mimic the performance of a capsule or of a winged vehicle at the appropriate parts of its trajectory. Each of those vehicle types on its own offers important advantages: winged vehicles provide gentle deceleration and precision landing accuracy but require extremely high precision and advanced thermal protection systems, while capsules require less precision and less advanced thermal protection, but subject astronauts to much harsher decelerations and less accurate landings. By changing its configuration in flight, SpaceShipTwo can benefit from the advantages of both types.

SpaceShipTwo’s cabin has been designed to maximize safety and comfort — it is the only spacecraft in history designed explicitly to optimize its passengers’ experience. A dozen windows line the sides and ceiling of the spacecraft, offering each astronaut the ability to view the black skies of space as well as stunning views of the Earth below. Exposure to G-forces during SpaceShipTwo’s ascent and descent is safely and comfortably managed thanks to systems such as our custom-designed, articulated seats, which are upright during rocket boost and reclined during reentry. The cabin is also designed for unfettered enjoyment of a large floating environment.

With the exception of the rocket motor’s fuel and oxidizer, which must be replenished after each flight, SpaceShipTwo is a fully reusable spacecraft.

The first SpaceShipTwo, called Enterprise, was tragically lost during its 55th test flight. The second SpaceShipTwo, not yet named, is approximately two-thirds assembled and 90% structurally complete. It is expected to commence testing in 2015.

What was once only possible in the pages of science fiction novels, travelling to the edge of space, is now a reality – and you can even choose your ride to get there! Here are some of the best ways that you can actually take yourself to space (or very nearly so).

SPACESHIPTWO (VIRGIN GALACTIC)

The unveiling of Virgin Galactic’s new SpaceShipTwo (informally referred to as VSS Voyager) will be one for the books, as none other than physicist – and owner of the only free ticket on the craft – Stephen Hawking will be there (if his health permits) at the ceremony.

After the ill-fated crash of VSS Enterprise, the new SpaceShipTwo has clearly incorporated the lessons from its predecessor into its latest design. It has amped up its safety measures, including a feature that prevents the tail booms from extending prematurely and throwing the craft out of control.

This emphasis on safety is also carried over to its cabin. According to Virgin Galactic’s website, it has custom-designed, articulated seats, which stay upright during rocket boost and recline during re-entry.

But as SpaceShipTwo is still targeted towards promoting space tourism, passengers will be treated to an unobstructed view of the Earth from space through the dozen windows that line its sides and ceiling.

Of course, it won’t be an ‘out of this world’ experience without experiencing zero gravity. SpaceShipTwo is also big enough for passengers to float around during a few minutes of weightlessness.

The unveiling of SpaceShipTwo is scheduled on February 19 at the Mojave Air and Space Port in California.

NEW SHEPHARD (BLUE ORIGIN)

Owned by Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, what sets Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket apart from others in the space tourism race is that it’s re-usable.

In a video released by Blue Origin, it shows New Shephard hitting an altitude of 333,582 feet (63 miles) before landing softly, and vertically, on the ground. If that’s not cool enough, Blue Origin says that, during flights, passengers will experience at least a few minutes of weightlessness after the capsule separates from the booster. At such times, passengers will be able to leave their seats and float about the capsule before a signal tells them to be reseated for landing.

And although no  other details of space tourism operations has yet to be released, Blue Origin’s New Shephard has clearly changed the game for space travel by making it cheaper.

LYNX (XCOR AEROSPACE)

As far as Lynx goes, the company sums up their tech better than anything else:

“Lynx departs direct from the runway under its own rocket power. Supersonic in one minute, weightless in five minutes, Lynx wastes no time delivering the spaceflight experience in full.”

If that doesn’t get you giddy for suborbital space travel, nothing will.

XCOR Aerospace’s Lynx is a reusable two-seat vehicle which can reach sub-orbit in less than four minutes. It’s also equipped with a dozen thrusters that allows the passengers to “roll the vehicle” to get the view they want during that six to seven minutes of weightlessness before returning to Earth.

Currently, it’s estimated that there are already over 350 clients waiting to take their trip to space. You can be one of them for $150,000 a ticket (a hefty fee to be sure, but space isn’t cheap).

VOYAGER (WORLD VIEW)

If fast and furious isn’t your space travel style, Arizona company World View has got you covered.

The World View voyage can be likened more to a cruise, with its four to six hour flight – two hours of which are spent at 100,000 feet (20 miles) above Earth.

Its pressurized space capsule suspended beneath a high-altitude balloon has all the amenities of posh hotel suite from a mini bar to a lavatory. There’s also in-flight real-time social media communications available to passengers. Tickets are priced at $75,000 inclusive of a non-refundable $7,500 handling fee.

A radical new weapon that can fire a shell at seven times the speed of sound could be used by the Navy as soon as 2018.

Described as 'Star Wars technology' by researchers, the rail gun can fire a shell weighing 10kg at up to 5,400mph over 100 miles. It does this with such force and accuracy it penetrates three concrete walls or six half-inch thick steel plates.

Development of a futuristic weapon is going well enough that a Navy admiral wants to skip an at-sea prototype in favor of installing an operational unit aboard one of its new Zumwalt-class destroyers.

Electromagnetic launchers were one of the areas researched by Ronald Reagan's Strategic Defence Initiative, nicknamed 'Star Wars' after the science fiction film franchise. 

Rail guns use electricity instead of gunpowder to accelerate a projectile at six or seven times the speed of sound — creating enough kinetic energy to destroy targets.

It's technology that holds the possibility of providing an effective weapon at pennies on the dollars compared to smart bombs and missiles.

Admiral Pete Fanta, the Navy's director of surface warfare, has floated the idea of foregoing the current plan to put a prototype on another vessel this year and instead put it directly on future USS Lyndon B. Johnson - though no final decision has been made.

'The Zumwalt-class is one of a number of options being explored for the electromagnetic railgun,' said Lt. Cmdr. Hayley Sims, a Navy spokeswoman. 

'Due to the size, weight and power requirements, some platforms will be better suited for the technology than others.'

Using an electromagnetic force known as the Lorenz Force, the gun accelerates a projectile between two rails that conduct electricity, before launching it at ferocious speed.

This means the railgun can fire further than conventional guns and maintain enough kinetic energy to inflict tremendous damage.

Railguns were first conceived of nearly a century ago and patented by French inventor Louis Octave Fauchon-Villeplee.

Nazi Germany took up the research during the Second World War to adapt its anti-aircraft guns.

There has been talk since the inception of the Zumwalt program that the massive destroyers would be a likely candidate for the weapon because of its power plant. 

The USS Johnson will be the third and final destroyer in the Zumwalt class.

Rear Admiral Matthew Klunder, head of US Naval Research, said the futuristic electromagnetic railgun – so called because it fires from two parallel rails – had already undergone extensive testing on land

The weapon uses speed rather than explosives to destroy its target

The 600-foot-long warship uses marine turbines similar to those that propel the Boeing 777 to help produce up to 78 megawatts of electricity for use in propulsion, weapons and sensors. That's more than enough power for the railgun.

If it's placed on the warship, the system could replace one of the forward turrets housing a 155mm gun that fires rocket-propelled projectiles.

For now, however, the official plan remains for the railgun prototype to be tested aboard a joint high speed vessel this year. 

But there are concerns that the plan may be pushed back into 2017, and Fanta suggested skipping it altogether.

The railgun, along with laser weaponry, are two futuristic technologies that Fanta said have evolved from being a matter of scientific research to one of practical engineering.

The Navy is interested in those weapons — along with smart munitions that can improve existing naval guns — because of their low cost as well as lethality.

'The Navy is determined to increase the offensive punch of the surface warships,' said Loren Thompson, a defense analyst at the Lexington Institute. 

'To do that with a limited budget, it needs to look at everything from smart munitions to railguns to lasers.'

The railgun discussion isn't widely known inside the shipyard, where the Zumwalt-calls destroyers are being built. 

Bath Iron Works, a subsidiary of General Dynamics, had no comment.

Shipbuilder Charles Davis said there was talk of a railgun when the yard began work on the first ship in the class, but he said there's been no discussion since then.

'They've been pretty tight-lipped about it,' he said.
