Het is een lief, aanhankelijk hondje, dat zich op een week snel aan ons heeft aangepast. Ze is heel vinnig en nieuwsgierig, een heel ander hondje dan Noleke.

Earth is made up of two planets — and was formed in 'violent, head-on collision'
The Earth as we know it is made of two planets — and was formed by a "violent, head-on collision," new research reveals.
The collision between Earth and a "planetary embryo" called Theia formed the moon roughly 4.5 billion years ago, according to a report issued by UCLA geochemists.
Scientists had previously believed that the collision came at an angle of 45 degrees or higher. But the collision was actually more direct, according to the research, which was published in the journal Science.
The scientists studied the oxygen isotopes on Earth and the moon, and found that they were indistinguishable, sharing chemical signatures.
If Earth and Theia collided in a glancing blow, according to the researchers, the Earth and moon would have different oxygen isotopes, with a majority of the moon made from Theia.

The collision between Earth and a "planetary embryo" called Theia formed the moon roughly 4.5 billion years ago, scientists say.
"Theia was thoroughly mixed into both the Earth and the moon, and evenly dispersed between them," Edward Young, lead author of the new study and a UCLA professor of geochemistry and cosmochemistry, said in a statement. "This explains why we don't see a different signature of Theia in the moon versus the Earth."
Theia — which scientists believe was similar in size to Mars or the Earth — did not survive the collision, but its impact lives on with Earth and the moon.

Nearly 130,000 pages of declassified Air Force files on UFO investigations and sightings are now available in one place online.
Declassified government records about UFOs have long existed on microfilm in the National Archives in Washington, DC. Many of them also live on websites devoted to the topic, sometimes free, sometimes not.
But UFO enthusiast John Greenewald says his database, Project Blue Book Collection, is the first to compile every single declassified document from the Blue Book project -- headquartered at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio from 1947 to 1969 -- in one place for anyone to search or download for free.
The collection consists of files from Project Blue Book, Project Sign and Project Grudge, the names given to official investigations into unidentified flying objects by the United States military.
Greenewald's efforts are not motivated by a close encounter or personal experience with unidentified flying objects. He says he's just driven by curiosity.
"I'm a history buff. I think this stuff should be accessible," he said. "Secrets are not bad things; I think we should know about this and it should be in history books."
Greenewald started requesting information related to Project Blue Book through the Freedom of Information Act 15 years ago. His interest was piqued by the first case he received information on about a 1970 UFO incident in Iran, after Project Blue Book ended.
"It defied explanation," he said, "and 5,000 FOIAs later my curiosity hasn't gone away."
Still, Greenewald believes the contents are "just the tip of the iceberg."
"It's all a puzzle," he said. "Just when you think you've got all the pieces to make a picture, you realize it's only a piece of a bigger puzzle."
The Blue Book project was discontinued after a joint review concluded that no significant information had come from it, according to declassified documents on the National Archives website.
Specifically, the review said no UFO "reported, investigated and evaluated" ever gave "any indication of threat to our national security." Nor did the investigations suggest that the sightings "represent technological developments or principles beyond the range of present-day scientific knowledge," a 1985 Wright-Patterson fact sheet said.
"Since Project BLUE BOOK was closed, nothing has happened to indicate that the Air Force ought to resume investigating UFOs."
Greenewald is not so sure -- especially not after viewing all the documents, which are full of blacked-out material.
If the U.S. military can't identify some unidentified flying objects, then who can, he wonders? And what are they?
"The biggest takeaway for me is don't believe the company line," he said. "I think something big is going on. How big, I don't think anyone will know for quite some time because government continues to make the rules.
"It's a hard game to when they make the rules and they're the referee."

The US has reportedly created a new missile as part of the Pentagon's development of hypersonic technology. But the US military has insisted that the weapons will carry conventional missiles rather than nuclear ones, as the arms race with China and Russia grows more intense.
The new missiles – according to information released on 13 April – will reportedly fly at five times the speed of sound (3,800mph) and make them virtually impossible to detect using radar. Researchers are still working on manoeuvre techniques and developing ways of being able to fully control the weapons.
The Pentagon's Defense Advanced Projects Research Agency (Darpa) has spent over $34m (£48m) on hypersonic aircraft and weapon projects. Hypersonic aircraft would be able to fly at between five to 10 times the speed of sound.
New nuclear fears
In an article titled The Problem With The Pentagon's Hypersonic Missile, published by Defense One, three hypersonic projects – including the Lockheed Martin Falcon Hypersonic Technology Vehicle 2 program, the Raytheon Hypersonic Air-breathing Weapon Concept (HAWC), and the Raytheon/Lockheed Tactical Boost Glide – are being examined over whether they would remain conventional weapons, or whether they would spurn the other military superpowers, China and Russia, into developing more nuclear weapons.
The concerns are that hypersonic missiles will allow the US to launch nuclear weapons that could strike targets at longer ranges, in less time than conventional ballistic missiles require, and move so fast current missile defence systems and fighter jets could not intercept them.
Reports suggest that the new generation of missiles can switch between two modes: scramjet –which uses air flowing at supersonic speeds through its engine to further accelerate the missile – and a "boost glide" system – this would extend the range of missiles by making them 'skip' across the Earth's upper atmosphere.
The Pentagon says that the new Hypersonic missile technology would be used in conventional weapons only, but the technology's capabilities are making other nations 'nervous'. (Reuters)
"Hypersonic weapons can be more survivable because of the extreme speed and high altitude. They would be hard to stop,' said JR Smith, director of Raytheon's Advanced Land Warfare Systems.
"At this point, our hypersonics program is really a technology development program, purely focused on 'conventional' payloads, said Stephen Welby, assistant defense secretary for research and engineering at The Pentagon. "There's nothing in the budget related to modelling, researching, or exploring nuclear-armed hypersonics.
"It's 2020 for the missile, 2030…. until you get into something that's refurbishable and probably 2040 until you get into something that's a totally reusable type of capability."

Ancient texts describe a time in the history of ancient Egypt known as the Predynastic era, where ‘Gods’ ruled for hundreds of years over Ancient Egypt, Akhenaten could easily have been an ancient Egyptian Pharaoh that belonged to that period, only out of place and time. Ancient Egypt has one of the most incredible histories on the surface of the planet. Not only are the amazing architectural achievements of the ancient Egyptians noteworthy, but their incredible knowledge in different sciences is also an impressive detail shared by only a few other ancient civilizations around the globe.
However, the Pyramids of the Giza Plateau and the great majestic Sphinx are not the on only mysteries surrounding the ancient Egyptian Civilization, their rulers belong to the list of the most enigmatic details of the ancient Egyptian Civilization, and one Ancient Egyptian Pharoah stands out from the rest: Akhenaten.
Akhenaten, who was known before the fifth year of his reign as Amenhotep IV was a Pharaoh of the Eighteenth dynasty of Egypt who ruled for 17 years. He was the father of Tutankhamun, one of the most famous Ancient Egyptian Pharaohs. Many consider Akhenaten as one of the worlds’ greatest and most influential religious innovators. Many consider him as the first monotheist in all of history, a precursor to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Muhammad as prophets who worshiped one God.
However, before Akhenaten, many strange Pharaohs ruled over Ancient Egypt.
One of the most important ancient texts that can tell us more about this time in history is the Papyrus of Turin, which lists all the Pharaohs who ruled over Ancient Egypt.
Not only does this list include all of the ‘official’ historic Pharaohs of Ancient Egypt, but it also includes the deities or “Gods” who came from above and reigned over the lands of Egypt before the first mortal Pharaoh of Egypt with a lineage that spreads over 13,000 years. It is a great enigma why mainstream scholars consider this ancient text as pure myth and why most details of the ancient text have been overlooked and omitted from the history books.

The Palermo Stele is another ancient text which mentions the mystery rulers of pre-dynastic Egypt.
Ancient Alien Pharaohs?
This ancient Stele even makes reference to Egyptian God Horus, suggesting that he was a physical ruler of the Ancient Egypt thousands of years ago. Another Egyptian God, Thoth is said to have reigned over the lands of Ancient Egypt from 8670 to 7100 BC. Interestingly, Egyptian High Pries Manetho, who had access to unlimited ancient texts from the Ancient Library of Alexandria, and who wrote for the Pharaoh the history of Ancient Egypt in 30 volumes makes reference to the divine beings that ruled during Pre-Pharaonic Egypt. According to Egyptian Mythology Akhenaten descended from the gods who arrived on Earth at the time of Zep Tepi and until today, people still believe that this Pharaoh did, in fact, come from the Stars. According to the “Pyramid Texts”, there was a period that emerged from the primordial chaos and the way gods ruled the earth. This time is called “Zep Tepi.”
Many researchers believe that the ancient Egyptian civilization originated in the year 36.900 BC, when ‘Gods,’ who came from the heavens ruled over the land of the Pharaohs. Akhenaten was believed to have bene one of them.
Akhenaten, considered by many as a heretic Pharaoh, was the ruler responsible for taking ancient Egypt towards an entirely different religious lifestyle, trying to reconstruct religion departing from traditional ancient Egyptian polytheism.

Akhenaten, upon becoming Pharaoh ordered all the iconography of previous gods to be removed. He only allowed one emblem, which was a sun symbol, literally a sun disk with curious arms or rays pointing down.
The Aten, or commonly referred to as the ‘Sun Disk’ was illustrated in ancient texts, as a deity, and in The Story of Sinuhe from the 12th dynasty, a deceased king is described as rising as God to the heavens and uniting with the sun-disk, the divine body merging with its maker.
By analogy, the term “silver Aten” was sometimes used to refer to the moon. The solar Aten was extensively worshiped as a god in the reign of Amenhotep III when it was depicted as a falcon-headed man much like Ra
However, Akhenaten was far more mysterious, and his strange looking body has fueled theories suggesting he may not have been an ordinary pharaoh but in fact a mysterious leader who arrived fro the heaven.
The Last Alien Pharaoh?
While Akhenaten is well-known because of the mysterious shape of his head, the list of characteristics is lengthy: an elongated skull, long neck, sunken eyes, thick thighs, long fingers, backward-turned knee joints, a prominent belly that suggests pregnancy and female-like breasts.
The first thing that is strange is his elongated skull, and in all of the statues and depictions of him, we see this elongated skull. In general, his body was sort of like a feminine and masculine mixture. This was, in fact, strange since all other Pharaohs were depicted as strong, imposing figures. Akhenaten however, was not depicted like that, but as a weak, strange looking being with an extremely elongated head.
Why would Akhenaten order the changes he did in the royal iconography to show him as this “weak” Pharaoh? Mysteriously, Akhenaten’s wife Nefertiti was also depicted having an elongated skull. Did they have some genetic anomaly that caused their heads– and body is in general to be misshaped and disproportional? Alternatively, is there something more to this strange Pharaoh and his origins? Is it possible that he was a hybrid human being? With genes and DNA from Extraterrestrials?

Why would the US ‘nuke’ the moon?
Called “Project A119“, it was one of the most secret projects whose existence has long been denied until recently when declassified documents about the project were released to the public.
The Project referred to as A119, also known as “A Study of Lunar Research Flights,” was a highly secret plan developed in 1958 by the United States Air Force with the intention of detonating a nuclear bomb on the lunar surface. It is presumed that the purpose of this study was to demonstrate the superiority of the United States in relation to the Soviet Union and the rest of the world during the Cold War while scientifically speaking, it was meant to answer numerous questions in planetary astronomy and astrogeology.
Full details of the study were presented by Dr. Leonard Reiffel, who led the project in 1958 from a research foundation financed by the United States Army. Carl Sagan joined the research team responsible for the investigation of theoretical effects of a nuclear explosion in low gravity. Sagan revealed his participation in the plan in 1959.
“Project A119” was never carried out, probably because the landing the first man on the moon would contain a better reception from the US population, than detonating a nuke on the moon, which would have kickstarted a space militarization Era. However, another crucial detail was mentioned by project leader Leonard Reiffel when he warned that of detonating such a device on the lunar surface would create a lunar nuclear fallout, which eventually could cause major problems in future lunar research projects and colonization.
The documents proving the existence of “Project A119” remained hidden from the public for about forty-five years. Moreover, despite the disclosure of the files in the early 2000s, the US government has never officially acknowledged its involvement in the investigation. A former executive at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), Leonard Reiffel who led “Project A119” in 1958 revealed the existence of documents proving it was more than just conspiracy theorists at work.
During initial planning for the mission, researchers considered using a hydrogen bomb in the first place. However, the United States Air Force vetoed this idea since a Hydrogen Bomb would have been extremely heavy making it hard to transport to the moon. Instead, scientists decided to utilize a W25 Warhead, which is a smaller, lightweight warhead with a relatively low 1.7 kiloton yield.
The Soviet counterpart
According to later reports by the time the US had developed the plan to nuke the lunar surface, the Soviets had developed a similar project which differed from the scenario reported by media. Started in January 1958, it was part of a series of proposals under the codename “E”. Project E-1 entailed plans to reach the Moon while projects E-2 and E-3 involved sending a probe around the far side of the Moon to take a series of photographs of its surface.
LCROSS, NASA and bombing the moon
While the _United States Airforce might have put a hold on “Project A119“, NASA did bomb the surface of the moon for alleged ‘Scientific’ purposes.
Despite the fact that it is strictly prohibited, NASA released a ‘Centaur’ kinetic weapon which ultimately impacted the moon.
‘Officially,’ the main LCROSS mission objective was to explore the presence of water ice in a permanently shadowed crater near a lunar polar region. The mission was launched together with the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) on June 18, 2009, as part of the shared Lunar Precursor Robotic Program, the first American mission to the Moon in over ten years.

But who put it there? And how old is it?
Many people have claimed that the enigmatic symbol found near Roswell is the result of Nazi occultism and even Alien worship, due to its proximity to Roswell, where one of the most famous UFO sightings in history occurred.
While many firmly believe the Swastika found near Roswell is in fact the product of Nazi Occultism, it is not. In fact, the original Swastika symbol has nothing to do with the Nazi’s at all.
The Swastika also referred to as the gammadion, is one of the oldest and most widespread symbols on planet Earth. And if you thought it is a symbol that represents evil and death, you are very very wrong. To make it short and clear, the Swastika symbol stands for peace and prosperity and is a very positive symbol.
As we know it today, Swastika is actually a Sanskrit word which means “that which is good” or “all is well” but some translate it to”lucky or auspicious object”, whatever the translation it is a very positive symbol. In Hinduism, it is a very sacred symbol deeply connected with luck and prosperity, and yes, there is a lot to be learned about this ancient symbol which has been misinterpreted since 1900’s. While a variation of the Swastika was adopted by the Nazi’s it is still used as a sacred religious symbol in Hinduism and Buddhism, even though many people today are completely unaware of the true origin and meaning of the symbol.
But one of the most important reasons why the Swastika near Roswell was not the product of Nazi Occultism is because, for centuries, Native Americans in New Mexico and other parts of the country used the ancient symbol, predating the Nazi movement by centuries. To the ancient Hopi of North America, the Swastika represents the wandering Hopi clan. To the Navajo clan, the Swastika symbol represents the whirling log; which is a sacred image that represents a legend used in healing rituals

The Swastika was in fact used by the United States military, which brings us to the most likely origin of the Swastika near Roswell.
During World War I, the Swastika symbol was used on the shoulder patches of the American 45th Division.
The most plausible theory explaining the enigmatic Swastika symbol near Roswell is that the ‘Roswell Glyphs’ were in fact created in connection with World War II precision Bombing Practice, used by Pilots from the Roswell Army Air Force Base for target practice. According to reports from locals, there are as many as 17 swastika-like symbols (or better said reverse Swastika’s) spreading across the region of New Mexico. Locals say that the enigmatic symbols are in fact well documented by the air force and the USGS.
It is known that the Army also utilized targets shaped like circles, triangles, ships, docks, and oil tanks.
This is why we believe that the Roswell Swastika isn’t the product of Aliens or Nazi worship, but was used by Pilots during World War II as target practice.
However, this theory isn’t widely accepted by everyone, as there are many people who believe that the enigmatic symbols spread across the land of New Mexico, date back hundreds of years.

De diepe spiraalvormige gaten in de Nazcawoestijn, vlakbij de beroemde Nazcalijnen, zouden deel uitmaken van een ingenieus watervoorzieningssysteem. Dat maakte de BBC bekend.
Het gebied is vooral bekend voor de Nazcalijnen, gigantische figuren van mensen, dieren en planten die werden aangebracht in de woestijn. Maar de lijnen zijn niet het enige bewijs van de Nazcabeschaving, die er van 200 voor tot 600 na Christus leefde.
Het gebied herbergt ook een reeks spiraalvormige, met stenen afgeboorde gaten, gekend als 'puquios'. Al lang werd aangenomen dat het ondergrondse aquaducten zijn, maar verder was er weinig over geweten.
Ingenieus systeem
Een team van Italiaanse onderzoekers denkt nu de antwoorden gevonden te hebben op basis van satellietbeelden. De 'puquios' zouden deel uitmaken van een ingenieus systeem om grondwater naar boven te halen. Onder de gaten bevonden zich kanalen. Via de spiraalvormen werd er wind in die kanalen gevoerd waardoor het ondergrondse water afgevoerd werd naar de plek waar het nodig was.
"De 'puquios' waren het meest ambitieuze hydraulische project in het gebied", zegt onderzoeker Rosa Lasaponara aan de BBC. "Door de toegang tot een onuitputtelijke watervoorraad maakte het systeem het mogelijk landbouw te bedrijven op een van de droogste plaatsen ter wereld."
Ook de Nazcalijnen, enorm populair bij toeristen, hebben volgens de onderzoekers vermoedelijk te maken met de aanwezigheid van water. Eenrecente theorie stelt inderdaad dat de lijnen samen een kaart vormen die de locaties van de 'puquios' aanwijst.

A Netherlands witness at Soesterberg recalled a UFO encounter in the military from 1991 that left him traumatized, according to testimony in Case 74907 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.
The witness was outside walking during a night shift watch at a military base near Soesterberg, Netherlands, about 3 a.m. on February 17, 1991, when the incident occurred.

“Along with another cadet I came at the central parking lot at 3 a.m. and saw a big circle in the sky straight on top off us,” the witness stated.“It had no shape, but only bright lights slowly rotating anti-clockwise and the light points itself didn’t rotate. The colors were in a liquid manner.”
The object was large and the witness wondered exactly what it was.
“I estimate the object about 30 to 50 meters in diameter. The first thing we both thought was a blimp, a zeppelin, the one like Goodyear has with the light screens on the sides. But the fact that it was very low and absolutely stationary and silent made it very, very odd.”

Soon the object began to rotate.
“After some minutes the lights started to rotate faster and suddenly it took off at really incredible speed to the west. A couple of seconds later we felt a short, hard wind blowing which stayed on top of us like a downwash from a helicopter.”
The witness had a clear view of the object.
“If there was a way to describe the speed this thing was going, but I can’t. We had a clear view for over 30 km – that’s 20 miles-plus. This thing covered that distance from stationary in something like 0.10 seconds. I know aviation and have flying experience and I am very technical. This kind of extreme acceleration turns humans into liquid.”
The witness waited 25 years to come forward with the story.
“For many year this has been an unspoken chapter in my life. I didn’t want to speak about the incident because instantly after the encounter, me and the other cadet, became unexplainable very, very ill, and for days suffered a high fever and extreme vomiting. The illness was so bad that it left me traumatized and not able to speak about it for years.”

Soesterberg is a town in the Dutch province of Utrecht, part of the municipality of Soest, population 5,798.Soesterberg Air Base was a Royal Netherlands Air Force military airbase located in Soesterberg, first established as an airfield in 1911.For almost 40 years, United States Air Force facilities at Soesterberg, named Camp New Amsterdam was a major front line USAFE airbase during the Cold War. Een soldaat die gestationeerd is geweest op vliegbasis Soesterberg, zegt in 1991 een enorme UFO te hebben gezien boven de basis. De getuige had op 17 februari 1991 nachtdienst op de legerbasis toen het incident zich voordeed.
“Ik zag om 03.00 uur samen met een andere soldaat recht boven ons een grote cirkel in de lucht,” zegt de getuige. “Het object had geen vorm. Er waren alleen felle lichten te zien die langzaam tegen de klok in draaiden.”
Geen geluid
Het was een groot object en de getuige vroeg zich af wat het was. “Ik schat dat het object een doorsnee had van 30 tot 50 meter,” zegt hij. “We dachten in eerste instantie aan een blimp, een zeppelin, met lichten aan de zijkant. Maar het vreemde was dat het erg laag boven de grond hing en geen geluid maakte.”

Al snel begon het object rond te draaien. “Na enkele minuten begon het sneller rond te draaien, waarna het plotseling met ongelooflijke snelheid wegschoot richting het westen,” aldus de getuige. “Enkele seconden later voelden we korte tijd een harde wind in ons gezicht, zoals bij een helikopter.”
Jarenlang gezwegen
De getuige kon het object goed zien. “Ik kan niet zeggen hoe snel het object vloog,” zegt hij. “Wel konden we tot over een afstand van meer dan 30 kilometer kijken. Dit object legde die afstand vanuit stilstand af in ongeveer 0,1 seconde. Ik ben thuis in de luchtvaartwereld en heb vliegervaring. Door dit soort extreme acceleratie zouden mensen in pulp veranderen.”
De getuige zegt vele jaren te hebben gezwegen over het incident. “Ik wilde er niet over praten omdat we gelijk na de gebeurtenis erg ziek zijn geworden,” zegt hij. “Dagenlang hadden we hoge koorts en moesten we overgeven. Ik was zo getraumatiseerd dat ik er jarenlang niet over kon praten.”
Boven vliegbasis Soesterberg zouden ook in 1979 UFO’s zijn gezien. In februari dat jaar zouden diverse waarnemingsposten UFO’s hebben gezien, maar zoals vaker durfden mensen er niets over naar buiten te brengen. RTV Utrecht besteedde in 2012 aandacht aan het verhaal.

A space observer from the UK allegedly captured an image that apparently shows a space craft near Europa, the Solar System’s sixth largest moon.
Some observers say the image is another proof that there’s alien life out there, particularly in areas that haven’t been explored or researched.
Secure Team posted the video online and showed images that were snapped using a Canon 650D camera with a 7D-300mm telescopic lens on a tripod in the back garden.
British Louis Read sent the image to the UFO observers to get some opinions.
According to the video, the spacecraft gets closer to the Europa, one of Jupiter’s 63 moons, and has never been visible since then.
Some experts got so curious about the image, so they increased the exposure of it. They then concluded that it is either a fleet of UFOs or one giant alien structure going about their business.
Space agencies, including NASA, have yet to travel to Jupiter in their quest for more detailed information about the planet, but they are planning to dispatch a probe out there.
NASA is currently exploring Mars with the Curiosity Rover, sending images from the Red Planet back to Earth on a regular basis.

I just received this interesting footage of an unidentified flying objects or orbs flying above Portugal city Evora. This was taken on Wednesday, 13th April 2016.
A man from Idaho claimed he had an encounter with a UFO in 1977. The strange object reportedly hovered above a home nearby and traveled towards him. The witness was driving his truck to his home late at night on May 5, 1977.
When he pulled into his driveway, the witness spotted a UFO hovering just over a neighbor’s roof. As he watched the strange aerial thing, he seemed to hear a voice from a male voice saying ‘This is not of this world.’ The witness stopped the truck, got out from it, and watched the bizarre object for 20 to 30 minutes.
Initially, the witness can’t see any detail of the unidentified flying object. It was when the unknown thing passed nearer to him when he saw pulsating, colored lights on the side of the craft.
The witness did not hear any noise or emission from the craft. He described the lights as dazzling but didn’t illuminate the ground or adjacent buildings. The disc was still in the sky over roofs when the witness got tired and went inside.
He reported his sighting almost 40 years ago to Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) on March 23, 2016. He included drawings that show the shape of the craft from the side with descriptions or explanations. His testimony is filed under Case 75381 in MUFON’s witness reporting database.

Stephen Hawking en filantroop Yuri Milner hebben vanavond een nieuw wetenschappelijk project aangekondigd: Breakthrough Starshot. Het doel: een ruimtevaartuig in twintig jaar tijd naar de meest nabije buurster sturen.
Een licht ruimtevaartuig reist op een nader te bepalen tijdstip naar het nabije Alpha Centauri-systeem op een afstand van 4,37 lichtjaar bij de aarde vandaan. Dat is – omgerekend – zo’n 40 biljoen kilometer. Hawking en Milner willen dat deze ruimtesonde deze afstand in twintig jaar overbrugt, wat neerkomt op een snelheid van eenvijfde lichtminuut per minuut.
Aangezien een lichtseconde ongeveer 300.000 kilometer is, moet het ruimtevaartuig dus 60.000 kilometer per seconde afleggen. Dat is vijf keer de doorsnede van de aarde.
Het ruimtevaartuig reist op hoge snelheid naar Alpha Centauri.
Zeilen in de ruimte Hoe gaat dit duo dit plan verwezenlijken? Het ruimtevaartuig van Milner en Hawking weegt niet meer dan een vel papier en gebruikt een zeil – niet groter dan een gemiddelde vlieger – om voort te bewegen. Dit zeil is slechts enkele honderden atomen dik. Een gigantische laserstraal van 100 miljard watt raakt het zeil van dit ruimtevaartuig, waardoor het vliegende zeilbootje flink wordt versneld. Deze straal wordt afgevuurd vanaf een hoge en droge locatie, bijvoorbeeld de Atacamawoestijn in Chili.
Binnen vijftien jaar De verwachting is dat het ruimtevaartuig binnen vijftien jaar gelanceerd kan worden. Tenminste, als de ontwikkelingen op het gebied van nanotechnologie, lasers en microelektronica op het huidige tempo blijven doorgaan. Het feit dat een bekende wetenschapper als Stephen Hawking zijn naam verbindt aan het project is hoopgevend te noemen.
Foto’s van een andere wereld De missie gaat zo’n 100 miljoen dollar kosten. De grote vraag is: wat levert het op? Natuurlijk is het een fantastische prestatie dat een ruimtevaartuig een ander zonnestelsel kan bereiken. Wellicht kunnen er zelfs foto’s gemaakt worden, maar dat gaat spannend worden. Kunnen de gegevens een afstand van vier lichtjaar overbruggen? Hawking en Milner laten het er niet bij zitten en zijn van plan om een ontvanger te bouwen die de gegevens kan ontvangen. We krijgen wellicht voor het eerst foto’s van een andere wereld te zien.
Yuri Gagarin Het is bijzonder dat het project vandaag is aangekondigd. Het is namelijk 55 jaar geleden dat de Russische kosmonaut Yuri Gagarin voor het eerst een rondje om de aarde aflegde. Op Scientias.nl werd in 2011 het jubileum gevierd met een artikel over Gagarin.
Wetenschappers aan boord van het internationale ruimtestation installeren dit weekend de Bigelow Expandable Activity Module (BEAM). BEAM functioneert als een soort ruimtetent.
De ruimtetent wordt gekoppeld aan de Tranquility-module. Dit gaat verrassend snel, namelijk in vier uur tijd. De gemiddelde kampeerder prutst misschien wel langer met tentstokken en haringen. Wanneer BEAM is geïnstalleerd, wordt deze module opgeblazen. Eenmaal opgeblazen biedt de ruimtetent zestien kubieke meter extra leefruimte, waardoor de totale ruimte in het internationale ruimtestation met acht procent toeneemt.
Als het aan NASA ligt, worden toekomstige ruimtestations allemaal opblaasbaar. Opblaasbare ruimtestations of modules nemen minder ruimte in en kunnen daardoor makkelijker met een raket vervoerd worden. Ook zijn ze veel goedkoper. De ruimtetent van Bigelow Aerospace kost slechts achttien miljoen dollar. Dat lijkt misschien veel, maar een ruimtestation als het ISS kost vele malen meer, namelijk 150 miljard dollar.

Na de testperiode zal BEAM losgekoppeld worden, waarna de tent verbrandt in de atmosfeer van de aarde.

Physicists Send Particles Of Light Into The Past, Proving Time Travel Is Possible?
Single particles of light (photons) to simulate quantum particles travelling through time were just used by scientists from the University of Queensland, Australia. They showed that one photon can pass through a wormhole and then interact with its older self. Their findings were published in Nature Communications.
Closed timelike curves are a concept necessary to understand this experiment(CTC). CTCs are used to simulate powerful gravitational fields, like the ones produced by a spinning black hole, that could theoretically (based on Einstein’s theory of general relativity), warp the fabric of existence so that spacetime bends back on itself. This creates a CTC, almost like a pathway to travel back through time.
“It’s intriguing that you’ve got general relativity predicting these paradoxes, but then you consider them in quantum mechanical terms and the paradoxes go away.” – University of Queensland physicist Tim Ralph (source)
Tim Ralph (quoted above) and his PhD student Martin Ringbauer simulated a Deutsch’s model of CTCs, according toScientific American, “testing and confirming many aspects of the two-decades-old theory.” Although it’s just a mathematical simulation, the researchers (and their team/colleagues) emphasize that their model is mathematically equivalent to a single photon traveling through a CTC. Nothing has actually been sent back through time though; to do that, scientists would have to find a real CTC, which has yet to happen as far as we know. Of course, there always remains the possibility that black budgetscience has.
Think in terms of the ‘grandfather paradox,’ a hypothetical scenario where someone uses a CTC to travel back through time to cause harm to their grandfather, thus preventing their later birth. Now imagine a particle going back in time to flip a switch on the particle-generating machine that created it – this is a possibility that these physicists say they have shown through their simulation.

A pair of glasses has enabled a blind man to read for the very first time in 20 years.
The high-tech specs are the invention of OR-Cam, an intuitive wearable device with a smart camera, is designed to assist people who have a visual impairment.
Luke Hines, aged 27, became blind in one eye and has only 3 per cent vision in the other after he underwent an operation to remove a brain tumor in 1997.
In an interview with the Sun newspaper, Luke, from Devon, England said:
"Something as simple as going to Tesco I used to hate doing because I would just go, get the same things every time and get out of there."
However, with his new specs, shopping has now become a completely different experience.
"Now I can spend hours up there just trying to read everything. It's really nice being able to do it without having to rely on someone else."
The Or-Cam device is a small camera that can be worn in the same way as Google Glass. It is connected by a thin cable to a portable computer and can fit in the wearer's pocket. This then clips onto the wearer's glasses via the use of a magnet, which then offers clear speech as it reads aloud the words or objects pointed to by the user.
Priced at just US$2,500 — it recognizes English-language text.
Luke has suffered greatly due to his handicap and was unable to go to school because of his visual impairment.
However, life has taken a turn for the better and through the use of Or-Cam, Luke is now able to do so much more. He is hoping to go onto college and eventually become a gardener.
In an interview with The Sun, Luke's mother, Jane Jinen said:
"It's such a delight because if it can give Luke a quality of life that we have got and he can go to college, it would just be overwhelming."

Toni Wheeler holds fond memories of growing up in the rural town of Aurora, sitting on the porch of an elderly resident named Mr. Mayfield and listening to him tell about the time a UFO crashed into a windmill, killing a spaceman.
“He would tell us it did in fact happen,” said Wheeler, now the city administrator, recounting one of the highlights of her Wise County childhood in the late 1970s. “He said tons of people went rushing up there to the [crash] site, but they made all the kids stay back underneath the hill, because they were afraid it might have a disease.”
The legend of the 1897 crash of an alien spacecraft 27 miles northwest of downtown Fort Worth certainly put Aurora on the map — having been retold in books, movies and TV shows — although many residents would just as soon their community not be known for such a tale.
But many others — Wheeler among them — are ready to embrace the extraterrestrial adventure, and on Saturday they will host the first of what they hope will become an annual event known as the Aurora Alien Encounter.
At least 300 people are expected to turn out for the event at the relatively new MD Resort conference center, south of Texas 114 in the Wise County town.
The festivities are scheduled to include a day of talks with UFO researchers and authors, an alien laser tag competition and shuttle tours of both the residential area where the crash reportedly happened and the cemetery where the alien — nicknamed “Ned” by the City Council — was buried.
Reports of an alien crash
On April 17, 1897, a story attributed to Aurora cotton buyer S.E. Haydon appeared in The Dallas Morning News: “About 6 o’clock this morning the early risers of Aurora were astonished at the sudden appearance of the airship which has been sailing through the country.”
The story went on to explain that an aircraft smacked into a windmill just a few hundred feet north of what is now Texas 114 and crashed into a field.
Supposedly, the pilot was buried in the town cemetery.
The incident occurred six years before the Wright brothers’ first human flight at Kitty Hawk, N.C., and nearly 50 years before the much more famous unidentified flying object reportedly crashed in Roswell, N.M.
Today, the roughly 1,400 residents of Aurora are left to decide for themselves whether they believe the story. And it appears that they may never reach a consensus.
“Some of the older residents of this community, you could never change their mind about things,” said Dan McEntire, the city’s historic preservation officer. “A lot of people believe it and a lot of people don’t. It’s just what it is.”
Controversies
Several components of the Aurora incident make it a compelling, mysterious tale.
The plot in the Aurora Cemetery where the alien was supposedly buried was later dug up, and the body (if there was one) removed. An original stone marker with a UFO carved into it disappeared years ago, although today the location is marked with a nondescript, cigar-shaped boulder.
The windmill the spaceship reportedly hit is gone, but a now-closed water well at the base of the windmill still exists on private property near Texas 114.
Folks working on a History Channel show about the Aurora crash in 2008 opened the water well for the first time in about 70 years in search of wreckage that supposedly had been thrown inside. They found bits of metal, but tests on the material were inconclusive.
Chunks of metal hieroglyphics were reportedly found at the crash site, but their whereabouts are unknown.

Radar operators say UFO travelled 120 miles in 8 SECONDS in Britain's famed close encounter

Two former radar operators have revealed how a UFO travelled 120 miles in less than EIGHT SECONDS during Britain's most famous close encounter.
Ike Barker and Jim Carey have given their first in-depth interviews since the incident at RAF Bentwaters, in Suffolk - hailed as the world's best documented case.
They were on duty in the air traffic control tower when the unidentified target was tracked on radar during a spate of bizarre sightings in late December 1980.
On December 26, a small team of security police officers reported seeing a triangular shaped craft land in Rendlesham Forest, just outside the base.
And, two nights later, Deputy Base Commander Lt Col Charles Halt and several other USAF personnel observed strange flashing lights moving through the woods.

The military team watched in awe as the glowing object fired a beam of light on the ground before it flew away.
Meanwhile, reports came in over their radios that the UFO was firing beams into the weapons storage bunkers, which housed the biggest stockpile of nuclear missiles in Europe at that time.
Halt later filed an official report to the UK Ministry of Defence - dubbed the 'Halt Memo' - giving details about the case, which was released under the Freedom of Information Act.
However sceptics have debunked the sightings as satellites, meteors or the Orfordness lighthouse a few miles away.
But speaking in a new documentary called UFOs and Nukes: The Secret Link Revealed, the retired USAF air traffic controllers say the craft they tracked was not man-made.

Ike Barker said: "It wasn't like any radar target I've ever seen.
"It was travelling at an extremely high rate of speed. It passed over the control tower and then it stopped. I've never seen anything like the maneuverability that happened with this object.
"It was orange in colour and it popped into my mind that somebody was flying a basketball out here. There were lights around the centre but not like navigation lights.
"It was more like portholes, as if you were seeing the lights from the inside coming out. It hovered momentarily, reversed its course and went back out a high rate of speed."

Carey, a tech sergeant with the 2164th Communications Squadron, said the unknown target made a sharp right angle turn at high speed before it left the area.
He said: "It was just phenomenal to see it go that fast. I said that can't be one of ours. No jet can make an immediate right hand turn."
The radar experts, who did not report the sighting to their superiors over fears it could ruin their careers, are among more than 150 military witnesses who have reported UFO activity at nuclear weapons laboratories, test areas, storage depots and missile sites since the 1940s.

Personnel at RAF Bentwaters observed strange flashing lights moving through the woods
Declassified US government and KGB documents from the former Soviet Union have also revealed how missile launch systems have mysteriously malfunctioned, causing panic among military chiefs during the Cold War.
American researcher Robert Hastings, who has produced the documentary and written a book on the ominous incidents, believes these incursions are a warning to humanity.
He said: "My opinion is that those who pilot UFOs are visitors from elsewhere who engage in provocative actions against American and Russian nuclear missile sites to send us a message that we humans are playing with fire - that to engage in nuclear warfare is essentially suicide."

Retired UK police detective Gary Heseltine, who now edits the UFO Truth ezine, said: "The testimony of the two radar operators should once and for all put to bed the ludicrous sceptical theories that the military personal were confused by the Orfordness lighthouse.
"Their testimony clearly highlights that UFOs were interested in the base and that beams were shone down into the nuclear storage bunkers.
"Every high school child, politician and university college student should be shown this documentary."
The new evidence has come to light as Hillary Clinton's campaign manager John Podesta told CNN News that the American people "can handle the truth" about UFOs

While many people it is not a question whether Aliens exists in the universe, there are others who believe we might not find our cosmic neighbours at all. According to theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking, humanity will not find intelligent alien species anytime soon.
This Week, Professor Hawking, Russian Billionaire Yuri Milner and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg presented the most ambitious Alien-hunting mission in the history of Mankind. Called ‘Breakthrough Starshot’, the project costs over 100 million US dollars which will be wisely spent to create the sophisticated nano-spacecraft.
In the conference, a group of researchers together with Professor Hawking and Yuri Milner detailed a project that aims to send a fleet of tiny spaceships into space to the neighboring star system Alpha Centauri in search for extraterrestrial lifeforms.
However, in addition to the incredible project that will change space exploration forever, the audience wanted to know more bout Aliens, and specifically, when scientists might discover them.
Professor Hawking took some questions from reports in advance so that he would have time to prepare the answers.
One of the most interesting comments made by Professor Hawking was about Alien life. Hawking said that it was very unlikely that scientists will find intelligent alien lifeforms in the next twenty years. “The probability is low, probably,” he said.
However, he continued talking about alien life.
“The discoveries of the [NASA] Kepler mission suggest that there are billions of habitable planets in our galaxy alone,” Hawking said. “There are at least a hundred billion galaxies in the visible universe, so it seems likely that there are others out there.”
In the past, Professor Hawking discussed alien life and how he believes an intelligent alien species might threaten our civilization. During the Breakthrough Starshot conference, Hawking was once again asked what humanity should do if we all of a sudden discover intelligent alien life, professor Hawking’s answer was, “We should hope that they do not find us.”
Others seem to share the views of Professor Hawking. However, Tarter added that aliens capable of finding Earth may be co-operative…
“If they showed up on our doorstep, that means they have technologies that are considerably advanced with respect to ours.” “And because of that, they are going to be the ones that set the rules,” Tarter said in an article published by TechCrunch.
This neutral-benevolent attitude of extraterrestrial visitors has already been proposed by scientists in different countries based on thorough analysis of extensive historical and modern documents.
Along the same lines, Dr. Nathalie Cabrol, a colleague of Tarter, said in September last year that an alien civilization might be trying to contact us, but humans could be “too primitive to see those signs.”
