Astronomers are still hunting for evidence of a proposed ninth planet lurking somewhere in the outer reaches of our solar system. But now they have something else to search for. New research from the University of Arizona hints that there may be another planet out there, waiting for us to find it.

Researchers Kat Volk and Renu Malhotra studied the orbits of objects in the Kuiper Belt, the asteroid field where Pluto is located. Objects in the Kuiper Belt orbit at an incline relative to the rest of the solar system. Typically, unusual orbits like these can be explained by the gravitational influence of nearby planets, but there are no existing planets that could have caused this kind of tilt.

One explanation, proposed by the researchers, is that there is another planet out there messing with those Kuiper Belt objects. According to the pair's calculations, the undiscovered planet would have to be about the same size as Mars. The researchers predict that the mystery planet is around twice as far away from us as Pluto, at 50 to 55 AU.

But there's good reason to be skeptical that this planet exists at all. A planet as large and close as the researchers claim shouldn't be too difficult to spot, so if it does exist it would be surprising that it was not noticed before now. There are several sky surveys like Pan-STARRS and NEOWISE that should have picked it up.

But just because they haven't seen anything yet doesn't mean that Planet 10 isn't out there. It could be particularly hard to spot, dark and non-reflective, or hiding in a region of the sky where we haven't looked at in detail. If Planet 10 isn't out there, that means something else is causing the strange orbits of all the objects in the Kuiper Belt, which might be an even bigger mystery.

It will probably take a very long time to find out for sure if Planet 10 is really out there, but expect a lot of astronomers and planetary experts to weigh in over the coming weeks and months. If Planet 10 does exist it'll only be a matter of time until we find it.

Questions for a UFO Expert: Bruce Maccabee on the Real X-Files, Roswell and His Own UFO Sighting

As scientific disciplines go, UFOlogy (pronounced you-FOL-oh-gee)—the study of understanding unidentified flying objects—does not get the level of respect that's accorded to, say, physics. Dr. Bruce Maccabee has a foot in both fields. He was an optical physicist for the U.S. Navy, now retired, and doubles as a dedicated ufologist. PM talked to Maccabee this week about his work.

Bruce Maccabee traces his involvement with UFOlogy to a lecture he attended by an UFO hunting organization called the National Investigations Committee on Aerial Phenomena. At the time, he was earning his doctorate in physics at American University in Washington, D.C., and soon after the lecture, he signed up to volunteer for the Committee's office. Maccabee has since gone on to investigate dozens of UFO incidents including the Trent Farm incident of 1950, and he has written more than a hundred papers as one of the preeminent voices in the formal science of removing the "un" from "unidentified flying objects."

PM: What is the FBI's "flying-disc file"?

Maccabee: The FBI's flying-disc file began in the summer of 1947 after sightings of what we now call UFOs began in earnest. A sighting in Mount Rainer, Washington, was the first such event to be publicized in national newspapers in the United States. Kenneth Arnold, the witness and an experienced pilot, talked about semicircular craft traveling at great speed and flipping and flashing as they bounced along. He said it was somewhat like skipping a saucer on the water, which led to some clever newsman coining "flying saucers." A barrage of flying saucer sightings followed, including reports from Air Force officers seeing unknown things fly over their bases. On July 10, top Air Force intelligence generals asked the FBI if they would investigate to see if Communist sympathizers were generating spurious, false stories about craft with extreme dynamic capabilities to scare the American people into thinking that the Soviet Union had gotten far ahead of us. That was considered subversive activity, and of course the FBI was hot on subversion at the time. The FBI investigated for two months, interviewing a dozen or so witnesses, and some of the case reports were filed under--believe it or not--"Security Matter X." So we're talking about the real X-Files.

How did you get access to these documents?

I had filed a Freedom of Information Act request in the fall of 1976, so I figured sometime around 2010 I would get a response. So I was very surprised when I got a phone call at my desk in May 1977 from a very surprised FBI investigator saying he'd found 1600 pages of UFO-related stuff.

What is in these X-Files?

Amid the interoffice memoranda and newspaper clippings, I realized there was some pretty hot-potato stuff. For example, it was the first time that there was any public knowledge of the FBI's involvement with UFO investigations. J. Edgar Hoover [the long-time FBI Director] had lied in the 1960s about that. Though the FBI found no evidence of pro-Communist subversion, this arrangement opened a doorway for the Air Force to contact the FBI and send more UFO information. From then on the FBI acted like a black hole--stuff would go in, but nothing would come out. Basically, the Air Force continued telling things about UFOs to the FBI that they did not share with the American public. In 1998, the X-Files were posted on the FBI's website, and you can read more in my book called The UFO/FBI Connection.

What about the Roswell, New Mexico, incident of July 7, 1947, when a flying saucer allegedly crashed in the desert?

I think Roswell was covered up to the extent that people in Air Force intelligence didn't even know about it. The FBI is involved in a piece of it, too--a document notes that telephonic conversation between Air Force people indicated that the crash remains did not fully meet the description of a weather balloon (the official explanation). For those of us on the outside, we have no hard evidence. The case for Roswell actually started in 1979 when Jesse Marcel, the Army Major who played a role in the recovery of the crash debris, started publicly saying how he thought it was an alien spaceship. Until then, Roswell had totally dropped out of UFO history.

What was your own UFO sighting like?

It was September 16, 1991, in Gulf Breeze, Florida. In November 1990 they started having nightly reports of this red light thing in the sky that very often would burst into flashes and go out. Sometimes it went from white to red or back. Mostly it was one object, but sometimes there were multiple ones. News crews went down there several times, and from as far away as Japan and Germany. It was thought that these sightings might be gas bag balloons with flares attached--a hoax. But triangulation of an object showed that it moved at 30 miles per hour crosswind, which can only be done if you have a powered device. So if it was a hoax, you'd have to have a blimp or perhaps an unmanned aerial vehicle that carried one or more complex pyrotechnic display devices. It couldn't just be a regular road flare given the color changes and flashing. If this is a hoax, it's a major one. I thought I had better go. So one night we're out there at the south end of the Pensacola Bay Bridge and a lady yelled, "There it is!" I looked up in the sky and saw a spot of lights. Then through my binoculars--the standard necklace for night-watching--I saw the image resolve itself into eight tiny white lights with a yellow tinge. I went ahead and tried to do my measurements. I had brought with me a "big ear," which is a sensitive microphone for listening at a distance. I couldn't hear a thing. The UFO moved somewhat and then disappeared. I didn't call the guys in white coats to take me away because 30 other people saw the same thing. We got a lot of pictures of these sightings, which allowed for analysis. By knowing how big the image is on film, you can calculate its angular size out to a distance of a mile or two or 10. In this instance, it got to the point where it was like turning on a chandelier, tens of feet in diameter, at an altitude of a mile--now how the hell do you do that?

Even within the much-maligned and widely misunderstood field of “UFOlogy,” Steven Greer is a divisive figure.

His affinity for the spotlight and his willingness to dive deep into areas of the subject where other UFO researchers fear to tread have painted him with a broader target for contention than many of his contemporaries. He is at it once again with the recent book-and-film combo Unacknowledged: An Exposé of the Greatest Secret in Human History — the compelling documentary half of which will receive its Toronto premiere coupled with a Q&A with Greer this Saturday. The event is open to non-conference attendees as part of the three-day Alien Cosmic Expo UFO symposium taking place over the weekend at the Airport Crowne Plaza Hotel.

Greer is not easing off. As he puts it, Unacknowledged — the book and the film, the latter directed by first-time documentarian Michael Mazzola — “really take people from zero to 100 quickly.”

The Unacknowledged project basically lays all the cards on the table this former emergency-room physician from Charlotte, N.C., has accumulated during his 24 years advocating for official, institutional “disclosure” of what government, military and the intelligence community really know about unidentified flying objects at the helm of the Disclosure Project.

But these days Greer is pushing it all one step further.

Unacknowledged alleges that a military-industrialist cabal of semi-public/semi-private interests has had access to technology reverse-engineered from crashed UFOs for more than half a century that would render all known terrestrial sources of power and propulsion obsolete, and yet has withheld it from the public due to its defence value and the potential damage its unveiling would pose to the “global macroeconomic order.”

Some, the book and the film contend, would also like to keep this all under wraps because beyond-top-secret terrestrial capabilities to reproduce alien craft could be very useful in psychological warfare — even in staging an entire “false-flag” invasion by imagined alien aggressors from the stars.

“Well, that’s the problem,” says Greer.

“One of the reasons I’m doing what I’m doing is that there are people within the intelligence community who don’t know how to get themselves out of that hole and yet they’re very supportive of disclosure, and they’ve told me this.

“If you read between the lines of what I just said, what I’m saying to you — and you’re welcome to print this — is that there are some very powerful interests who realize that they are stuck in this black hole and they don’t know how to get out of it because it would create a scandal thousands of times worse than Watergate or Russia-gate or whatever the latest scandal is that the Washington Post and the New York Times and perhaps your paper are obsessing on.”

Far-fetched, perhaps. But to develop a serious interest in the serious study of UFOs — and there is serious study out there, despite the subject’s persistent reputation as the obsession of conspiracy theorists and tinfoil-hat-wearing nutjobs — requires not only concurrently developing a thick skin against accusations that you are a conspiracy theorist, a tinfoil-hat-wearing nutjob or some combination thereof, but also doing enough research into the matter that you can start to sort the credible stuff from the lunacy.

That’s not always easy. As Greer notes: “There’s so much nonsensical information out there on the subject that it self-ridicules.”

Still, UFO lore is rife with much documentary evidence, and remaining ignorant, as Greer sees it, will only allow those in the know to use whatever hidden knowledge they might have for further hidden purposes. And he’s dead serious about false UFO events being potentially used to manipulate the public.

“Look, we stampeded into Iraq after 9/11 without there being a scintilla of evidence that Iraq had anything to do with 9/11 and we know now that that was completely a hoax.

“So the question becomes how easy is it for the intelligence community using their mouthpieces in the media . . . to put out a scenario that would scare the hell out of people so that people would give up their liberties and their finances and what have you — their blood and treasure — to stampede into the next big thing, which has been planned for 60 years and that is a conflict between humans and other planetary societies.

“Now, it’s completely nonsensical. It’s as nonsensical as going into Iraq was, but we did go into Iraq and there are hundreds of thousands of people dead as a result and now Syria has blown apart. So there are consequences to this . . .

“The majority of people already believe there is intelligent life out there and the last poll I saw said that 43 per cent of Americans think we’re currently being visited. More than half the public all over the world believes that UFOs are real and that governments are hiding something. So that battle has been won, but the larger argument has to still be engaged.

“And that’s why we made this film, in part, to expose what the secret agenda has been and the disinformation campaigns.”

Secret Underground Bases and the True Story of Philip Schneider

Philip Schneider died on January 17, 1996, shortly after conducting several controversial lectures throughout the US, including Denver where he covered topics such as, Space-Defense, black helicopters, railroad cars built with shackles, extraterrestrials and the secret black budget.

He was reportedly strangled by a catheter found wrapped around his neck – the bizarre death being dismissed by the authorities as suicide. 

If the circumstances of his death seem highly controversial, they are matched by the controversy over his public statements uttered shortly before his death.

Philip Schneider was a self-taught geologist and explosives expert. Of the 1,477 underground bases around the world, 129 deep underground facilities of which were located in the United States, he claimed to have worked on 13.

Two of these bases were major, including the much rumored bioengineering facility at Dulce, New Mexico.

At Dulce, Schneider maintained, “gray” humanoid extraterrestrials worked side by side with American technicians. In 1979, a misunderstanding arose. In the ensuing shootout, 66 Secret Service, FBI and Black Berets were killed along with an unspecified number of “grays”. 

It was here he received a beam-weapon blast to the chest which caused his later cancer many have confirmed that a large scar indeed existed.

Philip Schneider recounts his encounter with extraterrestrials in the following excerpt:

“I was involved in building an addition to the deep underground military base at Dulce, which is probably the deepest base. My job was to go down the holes and check the rock samples, and recommend the explosive to deal with the particular rock. 

“As I was headed down there, we found ourselves amidst a large cavern that was full of outer-space aliens, otherwise known as large Greys. I shot two of them.

“At that time, there were 30 people down there. About 40 more came down after this started, and all of them got killed. We had surprised a whole underground base of existing aliens. 

“Later, we found out that they had been living on our planet for a long time, perhaps a million years. This could explain a lot of what is behind the theory of ancient astronauts.”

An fire exchange occurred between gray aliens and secret service personnel.

In the ensuing shootout, 66 Secret Service, FBI and Black Berets were killed along with an unspecified number of “grays”. It was here he received a beam-weapon blast to the chest which caused his later cancer; many have confirmed that a large scar indeed existed.

Schneider maintained that numerous previous attempts had been made on his life, including the removal of the nuts from one of the front wheels of his automobile. 

He had stated publicly he was a marked man and did not expect to live long.  

“If I ever ‘commit suicide’,” Schneider told a close friend, “I’ll have been murdered.”

Some of Schneider’s more major accusations are worthy of attention:

1) The American government concluded a treaty with “gray” aliens in 1954. This mutual cooperation pact is called the Grenada Treaty.

2) The space shuttle has been producing special alloys in orbit. A vacuum is needed for the creation of these special metals, thereby justifying the mandate for a large, permanently manned space station.

3) Much of our stealth aircraft technology was developed by back-engineering crashed alien craft.

4) AIDS was a population control virus invented by the National Ordinance Laboratory, Chicago, Illionois.

5) Unbeknownst to just about everyone, the US government has an earthquake device. Neither the 1995 Kobe earthquake nor the 1989 San Francisco quake had a pulse wave.

6) The World Trade Center bomb blast and the Oklahoma City blast were achieved using small nuclear devices. The melting and pitting of the concrete and the extrusion of metal supporting rods indicated this. (Schneider’s forte, he claimed, was explosives.)

Finally, Phil Schneider lamented that the democracy he loved no longer existed: we had become instead a technocracy ruled by a shadow government intent on imposing their own view of things on all of us, whether we like it or not. 

He believed 11 of his best friends had been murdered in the last 22 years, eight of whose deaths had been officially explained as suicides.

Whatever one might think of Phil Schneider’s claims, it’s clear that he was of particular interest to the FBI and CIA. 

His widow has stated that intelligence agents thoroughly searched the premises shortly after his death and made off with at least a third of the family photographs.

The fossil that inspired Alien: 300 million-year-old relic which designer used to create extra-terrestrials in sci-fi classic

Most of us do not believe in aliens but looking at this strange fossil might just make you stop and think.

This relic is in fact the ancient fossil that inspired the extra-terrestrial antagonists in Ridley Scott’s classic sci-fi horror, Alien.

The creator of Alien was Swiss surrealist artist, Hans Rudolf Giger, who was sought out by Ridley Scott to design the creatures after he saw Giger’s artwork Necronom IV, one among his many designs that are said to have been based on the fossils.

Mr Giger’s designs – one of which was all too memorably seen bursting out of a character’s chest on screen – went on to win his team an Academy Award for Best Achievement for Visual Effects on the 1979 film and the franchise that followed.

But the stranger than fiction fossil is actually the remains of an early form of life that existed on our own planet an incredible 300 million years ago.

Police believe the thief – who broke into the case and stole the Aathal dinosaur museum’s prize exhibit – is a fossil collector.

Last week police released the photo in a bid to find the exhibit and track down whoever who took it.

And now the priceless piece has been returned after it was put into the museum’s post box tucked inside a padded envelope.

Museum curator Dr. Thomas Bolliger said: ‘It was comparatively undamaged – although one of the arms had broken off.

‘It really is a remarkable fossil and shows two separate species of a spineless animal that lived at the bottom of the sea around 300 million years ago.’

A museum spokesman added: ‘It is a very valuable but also a very unique fossil and it will be very difficult for anybody to sell or indeed to keep secret given the publicity around the theft.’

The following account, from Terry – of Shingle Springs, California – is without doubt one of the most chilling MIB-themed reports ever to have reached me. And, taking into consideration the large number of reports I get on a regular basis, I don’t state those words lightly. Terry tells a fascinatingly weird and creepy saga of a face-to-face encounter with an old and sinister man in Black forty years ago. In Terry’s own uninterrupted words: “This encounter occurred during the day time thirty five years ago in 1977 at a Winchell’s in Sunnyvale, California, I was just sixteen years of age at the time. My best friend and I had just finished our coffee and were heading for the doorway to leave. As we were passing a man seated at one of the tables, he reached out and firmly grabbed my wrist. In that moment my first reaction was to jerk away from his grip, but looking down at him I realized that he was a very old man and I felt in that moment that he was harmless. He was dressed in black wearing an old fashioned hat and suit, his clothing looked like it was from the 1930’s. He was extremely pale, very thin and appeared to be very old, I guessed in his 80’s or 90’s.

“He told my friend and I that he was a palm reader, a very good one, he claimed and could he please do us a favor by giving us each a reading. My friend and I talked briefly to each other about his offer and agreed to let him. I first sat down across the table from him, then as my friend was starting to sit down along side of me, he stopped her and asked her to please go sit a few tables away out of earshot from us, explaining that the information was going to be direct and personal, we would need some privacy. She complied and moved several tables away.

“Once my friend was seated away from us, I placed my hands on the table in front of him, palms up and looked into the man’s face, it was then that I noticed the old man’s eyes were completely glazed over with cataracts, he was surely blind I thought, as his gaze was unfixed and unfocused in my direction. I asked him how long had he been a psychic? He responded by saying that his ability had nothing to do with being psychic and emphasized that it had everything to do with ‘science.’

“He began by talking about my early childhood experiences along with some very painful incidents that had occurred to me in which he had precise and detailed information that I was sure no one could have known about. Quite suddenly I felt very vulnerable and exposed as he recounted these events, his knowledge unnerved me to my very core. Staring straight ahead he moved along into my present situation, lecturing and chastising me like a father would a child, for some poor choices I had made during that time. All the while he broke a doughnut down into tiny pieces. My mind raced as I tried to figure out how on earth could he know this stuff? It was then in that moment that I would forever change my ideas of ‘secrets kept’ and how I viewed my own identity in the world. Apparently ‘nothing’ could be hidden from myself or anyone else for that matter. I felt naked in the truth.

“He continued this reading now delving into my future and that of upcoming world events, with stories sometimes so harsh and brutal that I clearly remember wondering if I would ever ‘catch a break in life?’ Among other things, he warned me of a time when that by speaking about my UFO experiences I would anger ‘the governmental powers that be’ and he cautioned that I would be dealing with very dangerous people and circumstances. He rambled on often emphasizing again that this all had to do with ‘science.’

“I then asked him if he could see any kind of success coming to me, ever? He responded by telling me, ‘You will not find success in life, you will die of a broken heart. It will be a better stronger woman who will be successful.’ As I listened to his words I began to cry and he sharply asked me, ‘Are you going to lay down and die like a frightened whore, or are you going to be willing to stand up and fight like a worthy warrior?’ I was stunned into silence and then he said, ‘Whether you realize this or not, I have done you a huge favor today and I will be returning to see you in the future, years from now to collect on it.’

“As a side note, I do not recall the exact time he said, but do recall thinking ‘You’ll be long dead by then old man.’ Our reading ended, he asked me to leave the table and he then waived for my friend to come over to sit with him. He spent all of five minutes with her and when she arose from the table she was badly shaken and would only say that she hoped that what he predicted for her was not true.

“As we exited the doughnut shop I tried to press my friend for more information because she was crying, but she was too upset to speak about what he had said to her. Once out on the street the both of us walking together toward home, my friend asked me to tell her about what the old man said to me in my reading with him, she pointed out that the reading he gave went on for an hour and forty five minutes with me. I was lost for words when she spoke up and said, ‘Linda I don’t think he was a person, I think that old man was an alien.’

“Right in that moment as she was speaking we watched as an old black 1930’s or 40’s gangster type car with running boards pull out of the parking lot and pass us on the street, there was no driver at the wheel and the same old man that we had met, was riding in the back seat. Our mouths dropped as we watched the car pass by us and at the same time a whirlwind picked up and swirled around our feet. We watched the car disappear from view making a turn further down the street, I then shook my head and responded to her with ‘No, he was just a creepy old man in black.’

“Over the years during the course of our friendship my friend and I would many times ponder and question our meeting with ‘the old man in black.’ We could not understand who or what he was and neither of us would reveal to the other exactly what his frightening messages to each of us separately were, agreeing only that we felt that he was speaking the truth and that it was frightening for both us. We would part ways and our friendship ended in 1988 when I came out to her about my lifelong UFO experiences and the old man’s messages to me. She mocked and ridiculed me in that moment. It was a very painful ending to our relationship for me. I would struggle with it for years.

“In 1988 when I began to seriously study the UFO phenomena I came across stories about these Men in Black, Master Tricksters and the like. It was then that I began to understand who and what they are and how this ‘old man in black‘ specifically related to me as that young teenager all those years ago and yet, I was still haunted by his promise to return to collect on that favor.

“During Christmas of 2009, alone in my mother’s apartment while she traveled, I found myself slipping into a deep depression and I was filled with despair. During the course of that year I had lost a job that I loved due to the economy, gone through a terrible break up with a man I could no longer love, I found out that my old friend who was with me in 1977 on that day with the ‘old man in black’ in Sunnyvale had died in 2008 from cancer and I had still not gotten over losing my beloved horse Meaghan, who had also died the year before, leaving me filled with a sorrow that I was not able to overcome.

“Starting on Christmas day I fasted and prayed for three days hoping that I could find some peace and comfort. It was then I realized that, I was indeed ‘heartbroken’ over my losses and suddenly the encounter with ‘the old man in black‘ came flooding back into my mind and would not leave me alone. In trying to escape his words and his terrible messages to me, I began drinking heavily at night until I could find some peace in sleep. This would go on into the beginning of 2011 when I finally began to slowly recover from the pain. I finally thought I had come to terms with that old man’s warnings and I successfully quit drinking, my attitude shifted and I was now looking forward to a great new year.

“In April of last year [Nick’s note: 2011] I discovered a lump in my breast and was at first unconcerned about it, I thought that it was probably a just a fibroid cyst that would go away on its own. I put off having it checked out until July when the lump had grown quite large and when the results came back positive for cancer I was shocked. Last month after trying a lot of alternative therapies in the prior months since July, I had a mastectomy. The pathology indicates that I have advanced stage cancer and once again the ‘old man in black’ and his words are haunting me. Oddly I find myself both eager and apprehensive as I await his return, but know that above all, I am no longer afraid.”

There ends Terry’s words. The story, however, is not quite over. There is one final, very strange story to tell. Terry emailed the above account to me on February 28, 2012. In the copy that arrived to me, after the final sentence above that ends “…I am no longer afraid,” were these words: “I will probably have to keep him at bay when he returns.” When I sent Terry’s text back to her, to show her how it would be formatted in the pages of this book, she replied that she did not write those words of ‘I will probably have to keep him at bay when he returns.’ Rather, the last words in the email Terry sent me stated that with respect to the old MIB, she ‘would embrace him warmly.’

In other words, the email she sent me was subtly different to the one which I received. To this day, I have not been able to explain how such an odd, and somewhat unsettling, change should have been made to Terry’s text. The bigger questions, of course, are: (a) who was responsible for making the change? and (b) why?

It’s a UFO. It’s a strange balloon. It’s a propeller-less drone. It’s a flying turtle. It’s an alien dumpling. Whatever it is, it was seen over Oshawa in Ontario last week and has defied identification.

“It came out of no where, this thing, I was walking back to my car and I just saw something pop out of no where, way up high, far away in the sky.”

Wildlife photographer Ken Rice claims he was taking photos in a marsh area near the General Motors of Canada headquarters at about 7:45 p.m. on June 17 when the object suddenly appeared in his field of vision.

“I was walking back to my car and I just saw something pop out of no where, way up high, far away in the sky. I thought it was a big turkey vulture so I just took a picture of it anyway and then it kind of hovered, sat there for a minute and then it took off.”

As is the case with many UFO sightings, Rice says he took a closer look at the photos at home and realized it wasn’t a turkey vulture but a … well, this experienced wildlife photographer couldn’t identify the object as anything he’d seen in nature. Thinking it was the ever-popular weather balloon, he scanned the Internet for balloons that might look like this UFO but claims he found none. That’s when he posted it for the UFO experts on the web to tell him what it is.

If the object is manmade, it doesn’t look like the kind of thing Oshawa would be proud of. This high tech city was once known as the “Automotive Capital of Canada” – the UFO was spotted over the headquarters of GM Canada – and is now the place to go in Canada for jobs in advanced manufacturing, health technology, logistics, energy and IT. The UFO doesn’t look like a promotional balloon or flying vehicle that GM would be using or testing and its shape is not something high tech drone designers would be proud of … even as a hoax.

Speaking of hoax, could Ken Rice be perpetrating one? It’s hard to believe a “wildlife photographer” would mistake that floating spiked pillow for a turkey vulture and the sky doesn’t look dark enough to play tricks on a trained photographer’s eye. If he’s been out in the marshes long enough, he would certainly recognize it if it was a native creature. And, if he truly is an experienced camera guy, he’d know a bug or speck of pollen flying in front of his lens. Also, if he’s handy with photographic software, his CGI would be better, wouldn’t it?

The most common suggestion is that the object is a helium party balloon shaped like the sun or a sunflower. Rice vehemently disagrees with this.

“A balloon wouldn’t go that fast and disappear No. 1, and it was too high. Nobody would be flying a kite there because it’s just railroad tracks and the road and there was nobody around there. I didn’t see anybody, and where did it go?”

Unfortunately, he took photos and not a video.

Balloon? Drone? Tiny spaceship? Organic flying alien from the planet Turtlonia? What do you think?

Using the NASA SOHO COR2 satellite tool, on May 6 and May 25, 2017 NASA showed observations of the orbits of the planets Mercury and Venus against the backdrop of our Sun.

As you will see later in the video, these shots could not be produced by the NASA satellite tool, because the satellite was completely elsewhere and could not transmit image data to NASA according to Myunhauzen74.

Myunhauzen74: Also, pay attention to the shape and the intensity of the glow of the planets. It can be concluded that, the planets have a form that does not correspond to scientific data. Planet 10? New ‘Earth-size alien world’ found in our Solar System

A NEW alien planet a similar size to Earth has been discovered in our Solar System, according to space boffins.

Astronomers believe they have found signs of a planet with a mass between that of Earth and Mars beyond Neptune.

The LPL team are sure their calculations point to a new planet – not Planet 9.

Planet 9 – which was also discovered through its effects on objects in the Kuiper Belt – is thought to be four times the size of Earth and 10 times its mass.

Space experts have told Daily Star Online they think Planet 9 could be in the region of the constellation Orion.

NASA Eyes Close-Up Mission to Uranus, Neptune

"We do not know how these planets formed and why they and their moons look the way they do," added fellow co-chair Amy Simon, senior scientist of planetary atmospheres research at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland. "There are fundamental clues as to how our solar system formed and evolved that can only be found by a detailed study of one, or preferably both of these planets."  

Both planets have been visited by a single spacecraft, Voyager 2, which flew by Uranus and Neptune in 1986 and 1989, respectively. Voyager 2 was tasked with viewing the largest planets of the outer solar system and took advantage of a rare planetary alignment to visit Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune on the probe's way out of the solar system. (The spacecrat's twin, Voyager 1, studied Jupiter and Saturn and entered interstellar space in 2012.)

Since then, however, telescope technology has improved enough so that scientists can perform some studies of Uranus and Neptune from the ground. Researchers using the W. M. Keck Observatory in Hawaii, for example, have tracked giant storms appearing and disappearing on Uranus in recent years. However, no concentrated long-term program is possible on the ground, because telescope time is competitive and spread among several targets.

Studies suggest that Uranus and Neptune both have liquid oceans beneath their clouds, making up about two-thirds of their mass, NASA officials noted in the statement. It's a different environment from the much bigger Jupiter and Saturn (which are about 85 percent gas by mass) and smaller, rocky planets such as Earth or Mars, which are almost 100 percent rock.

"It's not clear how or where ice giant planets form, why their magnetic fields are strangely oriented, and what drives geologic activity on some of their moons," NASA added in the same statement. "These mysteries make them scientifically important, and this importance is enhanced by the discovery that many planets around other stars appear to be similar to our own ice giants."

Hacktivist group says NASA could soon reveal alien life

Could alien life really be out there?

Hacktivist group Anonymous has released a YouTube video in which it claims NASA could soon announce the discovery of alien life.

Anonymous is known around the world for its work. In the past, it's taken on the likes of Isis, Donald Trump, and Westboro Baptist Church – the small American religious group that campaigns against homosexuality.

In it's latest video, Anonymous states that a NASA spokesperson called Professor Thomas Zurbuchen told a recent US Science, Space, and Technology committee meeting that extraterrestrial life could soon be proven.

"Our civilisation is on the verge of discovering evidence of alien life in the cosmos," Zurbuchen supposedly said.

"Taking into account all of the different activities and missions that are searching for alien life, we are on the verge of making one of the most profound, unprecedented discoveries in history."

Anonymous has also written about alien life on its website. It said: "The evidence sure seems to imply that something is going on in the skies above.

"It would cost a lot for spaceships and a continuous flow of taxes and black budget dollars could imply a rational that there is more than meets the eye and or that of public knowledge."

Obviously, this is speculation. At present, there's no evidence – at least none we know of – that proves the existence of alien life. But many think it's a possibility.

Last week, NASA discovered 219 new planets, ten of which are rocky planets possibly not all that dissimilar to Earth. Although these planets are in the solar system's 'Goldilocks Zon'e, which means they're too hot or cold to be habitable.

‘Flying saucers’ became a thing 70 years ago Saturday with sighting near Mount Rainier

Seventy years ago, Idaho pilot Kenneth Arnold saw something near Mount Rainier that brought the term “flying saucers” into the lexicon. It was the viral story of its day. What he saw remains a mystery.

Before June 24, 1947, terms such as UFOs and flying saucers had not entered popular vocabulary. Then, on that afternoon 70 years ago, it all changed because of Kenneth Arnold:

“Supersonic Flying Saucers Sighted by Idaho Pilot.”

Arnold reported seeing near Mount Rainier nine “circular-type” objects flying in formation at more than twice the speed of sound.

His was the first widely reported UFO sighting in this country, and it set off a wave of other reported sightings.

Arnold would pay the price for describing something so fantastic.

In a now-declassified document, the Air Force Materiel Command wrote it off: “The report cannot bear even superficial examination, therefore, must be disregarded.”

Another Air Force document concluded, “It is the Air Force conclusion that the objects of this sighting were due to a mirage.”

For Arnold, it stung.

He didn’t consider himself some kind of kook. He had over 4,000 hours of mountain high-altitude pilot time; he was in the Idaho search and rescue.

“I have been subjected to ridicule, much loss of time and money, newspaper notoriety, magazine stories, reflections on my honesty, my character, my business dealings,” Arnold wrote in his 1952 book, “Coming of the Saucers.”

A long time ago, in 1977, I interviewed Arnold after reaching him by phone.

He died in 1984 at age 68, and in all those years, and with me, he never wavered in his descriptions.

“I made my report because I thought it was my duty. It was the only proper and American thing to do. I saw what I saw,” he said.

You can draw a direct line between what Arnold repeatedly recounted in detail to FBI and military investigators and our collective fascination with the possibility that aliens have visited us.

That direct connection goes from Area 51 allegedly hiding an alien craft, to the Roswell UFO Incident; and from movies such as “Close Encounters of the Third Kind,” to the TV series “The X-Files.”

It’s become so much a part of our culture that even the CIA website has a section titled “Take a Peek Into Our “X-Files” that is chock-full of declassified files.

The CIA helpfully lists “Top 5 CIA Documents Mulder Would Love To Get His Hands On,” and “Top 5 CIA Documents Scully Would Love To Get Her Hands On.”

Unassuming salesman

Arnold was an unlikely candidate to become embroiled in such a controversy.

He lived in Meridian, Idaho, and sold fire-extinguishing equipment. About as unusual as his life got was that he piloted a small airplane to get to his clients around the Northwest.

A month after Arnold was in the news, a now-declassified report made in July 1947 by Army Air Force Counter-Intelligence Corps Officer Frank M. Brown said, “Mr. Arnold is a man of 32 years of age, being married and the father of two children … It is the personal opinion of the interviewer that Mr. Arnold actually saw what he saw … To go further, if Mr. Arnold can write a report of the character that he did while not having seen the objects that he claimed he saw, it is the opinion of the interviewer that Mr. Arnold is in the wrong business, that he should be writing Buck Rogers fiction.”

That was one of the few sympathetic portrayals in government documents of Arnold’s sighting.

In another declassified intelligence report in July 1947, First Lt. Hal L. Eustace of the Army Air Corps put Arnold’s report as part of “silly-season episodes.”

The lieutenant wrote that Arnold “seems to be reasonably well balanced, although excitable, and has no apparent ulterior motive … other than to prove he is not ‘nuts.’ ”

The lieutenant wrote that Arnold revealed “an antagonistic attitude toward the Army” by stating, “Well, if the Army doesn’t know what they are, it sure ought to be trying to find out!”

Bright flash lit the sky

Arnold’s sighting of the craft was the 1947 version of a story going viral.

“It was a beautiful day. Just as clear as a bell,” Arnold said. He was flying from Chehalis to Yakima and decided to spend an hour or so searching for a downed C-46 Marine transport that had crashed into the southwest side of Mount Rainier.

There was a $5,000 reward for finding it.

It was at 3 p.m., he remembered, “when a very bright flash lit up the plane and the sky around me.”

At first, Arnold thought it was the sun reflecting off another plane.

“But the flash happened again, and that’s when I saw where it was coming from. It came spasmodically from a chain of nine circular-type aircraft way up from the vicinity of Mount Rainier,” said Arnold.

“… I could not find any tails on these things. They didn’t leave a jet trail behind them. I judged their size to be at least 100 feet in widespan. I thought it was a new type of missile.”

His plane had a big sweep 24-hour clock on the instrument panel. Arnold measured that the craft covered the distance between Mount Rainier and Mount Adams in 1 minute 42 seconds.

“That figured out to something like 1,760 miles an hour, which I could hardly believe. I knew that figure couldn’t be entirely accurate, but I’d say it was within a couple of hundred miles accurate,” he said.

From Yakima, Arnold then flew to an air show in Pendleton, Oregon. The next day, on June 25, he stopped by the local newspaper, the East Oregonian. He wanted to know if the military had been testing secret warplanes in the area.

He ended up talking to reporter Bill Bequette, who, in subsequent years, remembered that Arnold “came off as honest, level headed and credible,” said a story in the East Oregonian.

So Bequette wrote a brief story about what Arnold said he witnessed.

But the brief also went out to The Associated Press, got picked up by numerous newspapers, and the furor began. For the first time, a mass-media story and subsequent headlines used the term, “flying saucers.”

There were no reported riches for Arnold because of his notoriety. Instead, he complained to Frank Brown, the Air Force investigator, “that his business had suffered greatly … at every stop in his business routes, large groups of people were waiting to question him …”

Brown concluded his report, “Mr. Arnold stated further that if he, at any time in the future, saw anything in the sky, to quote Mr. Arnold … ‘If I ever saw a ten story building flying through the air I would never say a word about it,’ due to the fact that he has been ridiculed by the press to such an extent that he is practically a moron in the eye of the majority of the population of the United States.”

A mystery to this day

Despite that statement to Brown, in the coming years Arnold was driven to prove he was right.

There were “many long hours of fruitless flying with a camera, trying and failing to find anything like his saucers again,” says Martin Shough, a well-regarded researcher of the UFO phenomena who has written a detailed analysis of Arnold’s account.

In an email, Shough, who lives in the Highlands of Scotland, says, “I am resigned to never knowing what Arnold saw.”

He concludes, “Seventy years on, when so much of the flying saucer mythology that Kenneth Arnold triggered has been explained away, it is somewhat embarrassing that Arnold’s own sighting remains obstinately resistant.

“But there it is.”
