Het is een lief, aanhankelijk hondje, dat zich op een week snel aan ons heeft aangepast. Ze is heel vinnig en nieuwsgierig, een heel ander hondje dan Noleke.

De vliegende auto: het transportmiddel van de toekomst? Nee!

Mensen zien er al decennia reikhalzend naar uit en dit jaar kun je ‘m pre-orderen: de vliegende auto. Maar waarschijnlijk is ‘ie een stuk onhandiger dan je denkt.
In 1940 voorspelde Henry Ford al dat ‘ie zou gaan komen. En nu – bijna 80 jaar later – lijkt het zover te zijn. Nog dit jaar kun je de vliegende auto pre-orderen. Wie dat wel ziet zitten en zijn auto direct wil inruilen, moet er rekening mee houden dat er – een beetje afhankelijk van de auto die je nu rijdt – nog een beetje geld bij gelegd moet worden. Naar verwachting staat op het prijskaartje van de eerste vliegende auto namelijk een bedrag met vijf nullen. Maar goed: beter duur dan niet te koop, nietwaar?
De vliegende auto spreekt al lang tot de verbeelding. Hier zie je Jess Dixon in zijn zelfgebouwde vliegende auto. Het kiekje werd omstreeks 1940 gemaakt.
Verenigen Dat de vliegende auto zo duur is – en dat we er zo lang op hebben moeten wachten – is goed te verklaren, zo vertelt Hans Heerkens, als luchtvaartspecialist verbonden aan de Universiteit Twente. “Er moeten heel veel dingen ingestopt worden die eigenlijk niet in een auto of vliegtuig passen. Zo moet de auto wielaandrijving hebben, terwijl het vliegtuig weer een propeller of vleugels met een flinke spanwijdte nodig heeft. En terwijl een vliegtuig zo licht mogelijk moet zijn, is het met het oog op de veiligheid weer prettig als de auto wat robuuster en zwaarder is. Ook heb je in een vliegtuig heel andere instrumenten nodig dan in een auto. Daarnaast zijn de veiligheidseisen anders.” Om dat allemaal met elkaar te rijmen en uiteindelijk vliegtuig en auto in één transportmiddel te verenigen: dat valt niet mee en is dus duur.
Waarom zou je? Verschillende fabrikanten hebben er desalniettemin de afgelopen decennia tijd, geld en energie ingestoken. Heerkens snapt daar eerlijk gezegd weinig van. “Waarom zou je met een vliegtuig over de weg willen rijden? Het is toch veel handiger om dan een auto én een vliegtuig te bezitten?” Dat geldt zeker als we kijken naar de vliegende auto’s die niet verticaal op kunnen stijgen en kunnen landen. “Dan kun je niet vanaf huis vliegen en moet je dus met je vliegende auto eerst naar een startbaan rijden. Ik zou dan zeggen: rijd naar die startbaan, parkeer je auto en pak het vliegtuig.” Ook technisch gezien is dat veel praktischer. “Een vliegende auto kun je heel moeilijk optimaliseren,” vertelt Heerkens. Want de eigenschappen van een optimale auto staan vaak haaks op die van een optimaal vliegtuig. Zo is een auto fijn stabiel met vier wielen. Maar diezelfde vier wielen zitten het vliegtuig weer in de weg. “Ze zitten redelijk ver van het zwaartepunt, waardoor je heel veel kracht moet zetten op het roer om de neus van het vliegtuig tijdens het opstijgen omhoog te krijgen.”
“DE VLIEGENDE AUTO KAN EIGENLIJK ALLEEN EEN SUCCES WORDEN ALS ELITE-SPEELTJE”
Elite-speeltje Wie de vliegende auto aanschaft, moet dus niet verwachten dat hij een optimaal presterende auto en optimaal presterend vliegtuig in één koopt. Ook moet je niet verwachten dat je er zomaar eventjes mee naar je werk kunt vliegen. Want aan piloten worden strenge eisen gesteld. Je zult regelmatig medisch gekeurd moeten worden. Je moet je vliegbrevet halen, op jaarbasis voldoende vlieguren maken en zo af en toe in het gezelschap van een instructeur aantonen dat je het allemaal nog in de vingers hebt. Dat kost allemaal tijd en – wederom – geld. Met al die haken en ogen kun je jezelf serieus afvragen of de vliegende auto wel een toekomst heeft. Voor nu ziet Heerkens deze naar eigen zeggen vooral als “een elite-speeltje”. Leuk om tijdens verjaardagen of op de miljonairsfair over op te scheppen en zo af en toe eens met over je landgoed te vliegen.
Autonoom En zelfs als de prijs scherp zou dalen, lijkt de vliegende auto in zijn huidige vorm niet het ideale transportmiddel voor Jan Modaal. “Als iedereen er één heeft, raakt het luchtruim hartstikke vol.” En dan komt de veiligheid weer in het geding. De veiligheid kan in zo’n situatie in de ogen van Heerkens maar op één manier gehandhaafd worden. “Als we de vliegende auto volledig automatiseren.” Daarnaast is het noodzakelijk dat de vliegende auto verticaal kan landen en opstijgen, want anders sta je alsnog in de file bij de start- en landingsbaan. Zodra een vliegende auto echter in staat is om verticaal te landen en op te stijgen, graaft het tweezijdige transportmiddel echter zijn eigen graf. “Want als je verticaal kunt opstijgen en landen heb je toch eigenlijk geen auto meer nodig?” merkt Heerkens fijntjes op. En zo lijkt niet de vliegende auto, maar het autonome vliegtuig dat verticaal kan landen en opstijgen de toekomst te hebben.
De AeroMobil, een vliegende auto die je nog dit jaar kunt pre-orderen. Verkoopprijs is nog onbekend, maar zal zeker een bedrag met vijf nullen zijn.

Opportunistisch Aangezien de acceptatie van de zelfrijdende auto al wat voeten in de aarde heeft, lijkt het omarmen van de vliegende equivalent daarvan bijna ondenkbaar. “Dat zal inderdaad niet vandaag of morgen gebeuren,” denkt Heerkens. “Tegelijkertijd zijn mensen ook heel opportunistisch.” Als ze op een gegeven moment de voordelen van het autonome vliegtuig inzien, met schrik in de benen instappen en het een paar keer goed gaat, kan hun mening zomaar veranderen. Heerkens heeft dat eerder zien gebeuren. “Lang stak men de Atlantische Oceaan alleen over met vliegtuigen die drie of vier motoren hadden.” Als er dan eentje uitviel, was er geen vuiltje aan de lucht. “Maar op een gegeven moment gingen fabrikanten tweemotorige vliegtuigen ontwikkelen. Je hoorde de deskundigen roepen dat dat veel te gevaarlijk was en dat ze daar nooit in zouden stappen. Inmiddels kijken we alleen nog maar naar wat het goedkoopste ticket is.” En vliegen we dus allemaal met tweemotorige vliegtuigen naar de andere kant van de Atlantische Oceaan. “Je hoort niemand meer over veiligheid.” En zo kan het ook gaan met het autonome vliegtuigje “als mensen inzien dat het goedkoper en gemakkelijker is en zich de eerste paar jaar geen ongelukken voordoen.” Wat dat laatste betreft, is Heerkens optimistisch. “Ik denk dat een autonoom vliegtuigje veiliger kan zijn dan een vliegtuig dat door mensen bestuurd wordt.”
Dubai De vliegende auto lijkt het dus af te leggen tegen het autonome privé-vliegtuig. Maar wanneer kunnen we dat pre-orderen? “Dat kan nog wel dertig tot veertig jaar duren,” denkt Heerkens. Op korte termijn ziet hij meer in onbemande luchttaxi’s, waar momenteel in Dubai (zie het filmpje hieronder) al druk mee geëxperimenteerd wordt. “Dat kan veel sneller gaan. Misschien vliegen ze binnen tien jaar al wel rond.” Dat die luchttaxi’s hun doorbraak sneller kunnen beleven, heeft natuurlijk te maken met de aanschafkosten. Maar weinigen zullen zich een autonoom rondvliegend privé-vliegtuigje kunnen permitteren. “En waarom zou je ook een privé-luchttaxi willen als je zoiets met één appje kunt laten komen wanneer je het nodig hebt?”
Het staat eenieder die nog ergens een bedrag met vijf nullen in een oude sok heeft zitten natuurlijk vrij om later dit jaar de vliegende auto te pre-orderen. Maar wie verstandig is, wacht nog even. Met een beetje geluk word je geduld beloond en stap je over een jaar of tien in een volledig autonome luchttaxi. Heerkens kan niet wachten. “Heerlijk, met een leesboek instappen en het boek pas dichtklappen als je op je bestemming landt. Ik teken ervoor.”

Naast Planeet X schuilt er mogelijk nog een tiende planeet in de Kuipergordel, namelijk Planeet Y. Deze planeet is ongeveer even groot als Mars of de aarde.
In het wetenschappelijke vakblad Astronomical Journal schrijven wetenschappers Kat Volk en Renu Malhotra van de universiteit van Arizona dat er bewijs is gevonden dat er niet acht of negen, maar tien planeten om de zon draaien. De astronomen keken naar de omloopbanen van ruim 600 Kuipergordelobjecten. Deze objecten zijn brokstukken, die overgebleven zijn na de vorming van het zonnestelsel. Inmiddels draaien deze kleine en grote ruimtestenen al zo’n 4,5 miljard jaar om de zon.
Toch merkten de astronomen een afwijking op in de oriëntatie van de banen van de meeste verre Kuipergordelobjecten. Het baanvlak wijkt acht procent af ten opzichte van het gemiddelde baanvlak. “Uit onze berekeningen blijkt dat er maar één logische verklaring is: er zweeft ergens een planeet ter grootte van Mars”, aldus Volk.
Een schematische weergave van de positie van Planeet Y. De onderzoekers hebben de planeet afgebeeld als een soort tweede aarde, maar de kans is extreem klein dat er leven mogelijk is op deze verre, ijskoude planeet.
Je kunt het baanvlak van het zonnestelsel het beste zien als een A4’tje. Vrijwel alle objecten in het zonnestelsel draaien op dit platte vel om de zon. Er zijn afwijkingen – bijvoorbeeld Pluto – maar gemiddeld gezien lijken de meeste planeten, asteroïden en kometen op dit A4’tje te rusten. “Zeker in de Kuipergordel moet het baanvlak nauwelijks afwijken, omdat de banen van deze objecten worden bepaald door de zon en de grotere planeten”, zegt Malhotra. “Toch zien we een afwijking bij Kuipergordelobjecten op 50 AE tot 80 AE van de zon.” In vergelijking: 1 AE is de afstand van de aarde tot de zon. “De kans is kleiner dan twee procent dat het gaat om een statistische afwijking.”
De ijskoude planeet ter grootte van Mars draait op een afstand van ruwweg 60 AE (negen miljard kilometer) om de zon. Dat is ruim twee keer de afstand van de zon naar Neptunus. Op dit moment is Neptunus de laatste planeet van ons zonnestelsel.
En Planeet X dan? Er blijft één vraag over: worden de banen van deze Kuipergordelobjecten niet gewoon beïnvloed door Planeet X? Planeet X bestaat mogelijk echt en is een object op een afstand van 500 tot 700 AE van de zon. Deze planeet is ongeveer tien keer groter dan de aarde.
“Nee, Planeet X is te ver verwijderd om invloed uit te oefenen op deze Kuipergordelobjecten”, zegt Volk. “De afstand tot de zon moet kleiner zijn dan 100 AE om zulke baanafwijkingen te veroorzaken.”
De zoektocht naar Planeet Y Een object ter grootte van Mars zou makkelijk gespot moeten worden, toch? De onderzoekers beweren dat de kans dertig procent is dat het object nog nooit is gevonden omdat we nog niet goed genoeg keken. Als Planeet X en Planeet Y echt bestaan, dan is de kans groot dat we deze objecten de komende jaren gaan vinden. De komende jaren verschijnen er allerlei nieuwe telescopen.

Alternatieve verklaring Als de afwijking van de Kuipergordelobjecten niet is veroorzaakt door Planeet Y, wat is dan de meest waarschijnlijke verklaring voor dit verschijnsel? Wellicht dat de afwijking dan is veroorzaakt door een passerende ster. “Dit zou betekenen dat de ster ergens in de afgelopen tien miljoen jaar rakelings langs het zonnestelsel scheerde”, beweert Malhotra. Als het langer dan tien miljoen jaar geleden is gebeurd, dan zouden de Kuipergordelobjecten langzaam teruggaan naar het oude baanvlak. “Dat lijkt ons een onwaarschijnlijk scenario.”
De landing van Philae op komeet 67P was geen succes. De lander stuiterde op het oppervlak en eindigde ergens in een ravijn. Hadden we niet beter een robotslang kunnen sturen?
Een robotslang. Het klinkt misschien als een absurd idee, maar laat het eens op je inwerken. Zo’n slang heeft een flexibel lichaam en kruipt gemakkelijk over het oppervlak van een komeet, planeet of maan. Een Marsrover valt uit wanneer een wieltje kapot gaat, maar dat geldt niet voor een robotslang. Die heeft immers geen wielen.
Zo’n robotslang kan op plekken komen waar een normale rover niet komt. Er zijn plannen om in de toekomst een maanbasis onder het oppervlak te bouwen, bijvoorbeeld in een lavabuis. Op die manier worden astronauten beschermd tegen kosmische straling en meteorieten. Zulke tunnels moeten echter geïnspecteerd worden of ze geschikt zijn voor mensen om in te wonen en te werken. Perfect werk voor een robotslang, want die kruipt gemakkelijk door de gangen.
Robotslang naar het ISS Leuke toekomstplannen, maar gebeurt er op korte termijn nog iets? Ja, Noorse wetenschappers van SINTEF onderzoeken momenteel of het mogelijk is om een robotslang naar het internationale ruimtestation te sturen. Omdat dit ruimtestation continu in een vrije val verkeert, is er sprake van gewichtloosheid aan boord van het ISS. Dit vraagt om een slimme oplossing, want hoe kruipt een robotslang van de ene kant van het ruimtestation naar de andere kant?
Slimme voortbeweging De SINTEF-onderzoekers hebben wel een idee. Wanneer de robotslang vast zit aan de wand van het ruimtestation, kan hij zichzelf van achteren intrekken. Vervolgens strekt hij zich aan de voorkant uit, waardoor de slang opschuift. Eigenlijk lijkt dit op hoe slangen in het wild bewegen. Op dit moment onderzoeken SINTEF-wetenschappers welke sensoren de robot nodig heeft om zich bewust te zijn van de omgeving.

Astrobee Er wordt reikhalzend uitgekeken naar Astrobee. Astrobee is een robot die binnenkort in het internationale ruimtestation vliegt. Deze drone kan bijvoorbeeld zelfstandig op zoek naar gereedschap, zodat astronauten dit niet zelf hoeven te doen. Even voor jouw beeldvorming: in het internationale ruimtestation liggen tienduizenden verschillende onderdelen. Het juiste gereedschap of het perfecte moertje vinden is dus wel iets lastiger dan op aarde. SINTEF-onderzoekers schrijven dat ze veel hopen te leren van Astrobee, waardoor ze hun eigen robotslang nog beter kunnen maken.

8. The “Alien Megastructure” star
that just won’t quit. Located 1,500 light-years away, KIC 8462852 (or Tabby’s star), has been experiencing unprecedented dips in brightness — while most stars experience periodic dimming of about 1 percent, this star has clocked dips of a whopping 22 percent.
Tabby’s star is so weird, one astronomer famously suggested aliens could be involved. With the latest bout of strange light patterns giving researchers more data to work with, let’s hope they can finally figure this one out.

You’d think its Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter has seen everything there is to see on the Martian surface during its 11-year orbit, but a snapshot taken over the planet’s South Pole has revealed something we can’t explain.
At 19.7 inches (50 centimeters) per pixel, we’re looking at a feature hundreds of meters across, so did something punch its way through, or is it the result of a massive collapse? Until we get further evidence, your guess is as good as mine.

Grizzly bear populations are on the rebound in Yellowstone.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service removed grizzly bears in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem from the Endangered Species List yesterday (June 22).
Grizzly bears "have long warranted delisting," as they have met or exceeded recovery objectives since 2003, Wyoming governor Matt Mead said in a statement published online by the governor's office. [Read more about the grizzly bears.]

Archaeologists have discovered a "billboard" of hieroglyphs carved into the rocks near the Egyptian village of El-Khawy. The symbols, which show a message related to the cosmos, are the earliest monumental (large) hieroglyphs known, dating back around 5,200 years.
Only a few similar scenes are known from Egypt. For example, a vase previously found at the site of Abydos depicts a pregnant hippopotamus, Darnell told Live Science. [Read more about the cosmic message.]
Lizard parts?
Dried monitor lizard penises are being illegally traded as "Hatha Jodi," an Indian plant root used in religious ceremonies and thought to be a good-luck charm.

Poachers have been caught trying to illegally sell dried lizard penises online to unwitting customers looking to purchase a rare Indian root called "Hatha Jodi." The root looks like two praying hands and is thought to bring good luck.

Passing down the genes
People who have insomnia may have been told that their sleeping troubles are "all in their head," but a new study shows that this condition is driven not only by psychological factors, but biological ones as well.

A previously overlooked inky inscription on a pottery shard found in Israel calls for the delivery of more wine, according to a new study, showing that not much has changed in 2,600 years for humanity, at least when it comes to wetting our whistles.

Modern cat lovers can thank the farmers of ancient Anatolia in the Near East for domesticating their fluffy friends about 10,000 years ago, a new study finds.

Roswell, New Mexico festival celebrates 70th anniversary of UFO incident

ROSWELL, N.M. (Tribune News Service) — Suddenly, the silver saucer that has been suspended, stationary and silent above and behind four sallow-skinned, somber-faced, spaced-out aliens, starts to spin and spew smoke.
Caught by surprise, visitors to the International UFO Museum and Research Center – kids and adults – stand wide-eyed and transfixed, traces of smiles creasing their faces as they watch and wonder what’s next.
Well, actually, that’s about all. This saucer in the museum display does not crash as many people believe – or would like to believe – an actual alien craft did 70 years ago and about 75 miles northwest of here.
The so-called Roswell Incident of 1947 is the reason the city of Roswell started a UFO Festival in 1995 and will host the 2017 festival Thursday, June 29, through Sunday, July 2.
It’s the reason stores along Main Street sell T-shirts embossed with little green men and slogans such as “Roswell – Green since 1947.”
It’s the reason why this museum was opened in 1992. And it’s the reason Dana Lenko, 35, alien-visaged antennae growing out of her long, dark hair, is among the museum visitors delighting in the spinning, smoking saucer.
Lenko is a native of Melbourne, Australia, but she has lived in this country for three years and makes her home in Austin, where she is a fashion designer. Earlier this month, she was traveling with friends in New Mexico.
“I have never been in New Mexico before,” she said. “We want to see Santa Fe and Taos. But I’ve always been very keen on the stars and the vastness of space. My dad was an amateur astronomer. He gave me a love for that and for science fiction and the films. So I wanted to see Roswell for sure. You’ve got the chance to come here where it all started.”
Strange debris
There were reports of Unidentified Flying Objects before whatever happened in New Mexico in the summer of 1947 happened. But the Roswell Incident planted the seed out of which today’s fascination with extraterrestrial visitation sprouted.

It started when W.W. “Mac” Brazel, who was running a sheep operation on a ranch 30 miles southeast of Corona, in Lincoln County, found debris scattered in his pasture in the summer of 1947. It was described as lightweight wood, tinfoil, tape, paper and strips of rubber, which sounds mundane enough. Except that some of it has also been described as impervious to fire, knife and hammer and unnaturally resilient.
When Brazel told neighbors about it during the first week of July, they said he might have found wreckage from one of those flying saucers that had been in newspaper stories recently. So Brazel drove down to Roswell Army Air Field and reported his find.
The Army collected the debris and on July 8 the Roswell air field public relations officer released information saying the Army had recovered a flying disc. It made newspaper headlines, but the story was retracted by the Army almost immediately. The debris was actually from a weather balloon, the Army said. So sorry for the goof up.
That could have been that. Mac Brazel died in 1963 and the years rolled along until 1980, when, in “The Roswell Incident,” Charles Berlitz and William L. Moore wrote that the weather balloon story was a cover-up, that not only was the stuff Brazel found from a flying saucer but that the Army had discovered the crashed saucer itself and the bodies of its alien crew.
It exploded from there. There were more books with varying body counts and crash-site locations. There was a 1999 TV movie; a 1999-2002 TV series; countless TV documentaries, including one in 1995 that claimed to depict an autopsy of an alien crash victims (it wasn’t); and a 1999 episode on “The X-Files” TV series.
Wall-to-wall people
Roswell, a city of 50,000 about 200 miles southeast of Albuquerque, was not about to miss out on the action or the opportunity. Today, the “Welcome to Roswell” sign sports a tilted saucer on one corner. Through 2016, the UFO Museum had attracted 3,569,826 visitors, 13 percent of whom come from other countries. This year’s UFO festival is expected to draw 30,000 people, a boon to hotels, restaurants, service stations and stores with names such as Alien Zone, Alien Invasion, 3RD Rock From the Sun and Roswell Landing.
“The festival is our Black Friday,” said Robert Marshall, 53, a Roswell native and an employee of Roswell Landing, which sells alien-themed merchandise such as T-shirts, coffee cups, shot glasses, key chains, magnets and so on. “We’ve been back stocking a lot of merchandise (for the festival). Upstairs is all T-shirts.”
Jessie Payne, 32, manager of Alien Zone, remembers the 1997 festival, which marked the Roswell Incident’s 50th anniversary, as being the landmark celebration to date.
“That was wall-to-wall people,” she said. “People were walking up and down Main Street for miles. You couldn’t (drive) anywhere for stopping for pedestrians.”
To boost its everyday traffic, Alien Zone features Area 51, a special section where, for a $2 to $3 admission fee, patrons can see displays depicting aliens adapting to earthly avocations such as lounging on couches and drinking beer.
On a recent day, Kevin Childers, 33, a medical doctor from Hendersonville, Tenn., and his wife, Danielle, 30, checked out Area 51. The Childers said their interest in Roswell had been piqued by “Unacknowledged,” a recent documentary about the suppression of alien-encounter incidents, a recurring theme in the UFO books, articles and films.
The Childers said they were having a good time in Roswell.
“We are here purely for the entertainment,” Kevin Childers said. “No tinfoil hats for us.”
Something happened
Roswell Landing’s Marshall said 95 percent of the people who come into the store are from somewhere else. He said those are the people who want alien T-shirts and coffee mugs.
He said it’s different for people, such as himself, who were born in Roswell.
“You hear about it so much you don’t pay attention to it anymore,” he said. “But something happened. When the Army tells the Roswell Record (newspaper) they have found a flying saucer, and then the next day they have to come back and say it was a weather balloon.”
One explanation, and it sounds reasonable, is that the Army was not covering up for a flying saucer find but for Project Mogul, an operation, top secret at the time, aimed at discovering whether or not the Soviet Union was testing atomic bombs. The project employed high-altitude balloons equipped with sensitive microphones that could detect sound waves generated by atomic testing. Maybe it was a Project Mogul balloon that crashed into Brazel’s sheep pasture.
Frank Kimbler, 61, one of the guest speakers at this year’s UFO Festival, thinks the Project Mogul theory is just so much gas.
“A craft of unknown origin crashed in the New Mexico desert and scared the hell out of the American military and out of people (witnesses) to the point they won’t talk about it today,” Kimbler said.
An assistant professor of earth sciences at the New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell, Kimbler will be giving a festival lecture titled “Roswell Crash Site: The Quest for Physical Evidence.” Over the last seven years he has been scouring the Brazel debris field, using metal detectors, remote sensing and radiation-detecting devices to search for pieces of debris overlooked by the Army, artifacts that may shed some light on what happened there in 1947.
“All we have is handed-down stories,” he said. “I need to take some of my science and see if I can find some physical evidence. I’ve found some aluminum-type alloys. For good science, you need to have samples tested at three independent laboratories. But as soon as I start to get an answer, things disappear – in the mail or somehow.”
Nazi UFOs
Guy Malone, 48, of Roswell has organized a series of UFO Festival lectures that challenge the extraterrestrial hypothesis. He himself is doing presentations titled “Are Aliens Demons? Evidences That Suggest ‘Yes'” and “Roswell 1947: What Really Happened?”
Malone’s theory is that the Roswell Incident is about something more devious and sinister than an alien crash and subsequent government cover-up. He thinks it might have involved the crash of an experimental aircraft being developed for the United States by German scientists.
Malone said that following World War II, a secret effort, known as Operation Paperclip, smuggled hundreds of German scientists, engineers and technicians – many of them former members of the Nazi party – into this country.
“Hitler was notorious for developing flying craft of different shapes and propulsion devices,” Malone said. “The U.S. wanted the technology because the Russians were trying to scoop up these (Germans), as well as other countries.” He said some of the Germans were sent to Fort Bliss in Texas and New Mexico and White Sands in New Mexico.
Malone believes the cover-up was an attempt to keep new technology under wraps and conceal from the public the fact that Nazis were working for the U.S. government.
Don Schmitt, 62, the co-author of five books about the Roswell Incident, said he was a skeptic when he started investigating the case in 1989.
“But the moment we started talking to people who actually handled the material (debris found by Brazel), we started thinking ‘What if we are wrong?’,” Schmitt said during a phone interview from his Wisconsin home. He said the first 10 witnesses all said the same thing about the debris, that it was like metal but it wasn’t, it was like plastic but it wasn’t, that it couldn’t be cut or burned or creased. Now, he says, he is 99 percent sure the crash involved something from another world.
Schmitt and his writing partner, Thomas J. Carey, will give several lectures at the UFO festival, one titled “The Misadventures of Two Roswell Investigators.”
“The investigation is still fluid,” he said. “We are planning our sixth archaeological dig (at the Brazel debris field). We may come away with nothing, but we can say we did it.”
Mysterious universe
Back at the UFO Museum, Pamela Cortez, 46, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, is checking out the exhibits. She has come to New Mexico to visit her daughter and two grandkids, all of whom live in Carlsbad.
Cortez’s favorite museum display features statements by persons involved directly or indirectly with the Roswell incident. She thinks an alien spacecraft did slam into a New Mexico pasture 70 years ago.
“I believe it’s true. I believe the government hides a lot of stuff from us.”
Fashion designer Lenko, she of the alien antennae, is more cautious.
“I believe – in a more scientific way – that there might be other inhabitable planets out there,” she said. “It would be a bit arrogant of us to think that in this whole wide universe there is no other life. There’s a big universe out there, a lot of mysteries. It is very exciting.”
Researchers Kat Volk and Renu Malhotra studied the orbits of objects in the Kuiper Belt, the asteroid field where Pluto is located. Objects in the Kuiper Belt orbit at an incline relative to the rest of the solar system. Typically, unusual orbits like these can be explained by the gravitational influence of nearby planets, but there are no existing planets that could have caused this kind of tilt.

One explanation, proposed by the researchers, is that there is another planet out there messing with those Kuiper Belt objects. According to the pair's calculations, the undiscovered planet would have to be about the same size as Mars. The researchers predict that the mystery planet is around twice as far away from us as Pluto, at 50 to 55 AU.
But there's good reason to be skeptical that this planet exists at all. A planet as large and close as the researchers claim shouldn't be too difficult to spot, so if it does exist it would be surprising that it was not noticed before now. There are several sky surveys like Pan-STARRS and NEOWISE that should have picked it up.
But just because they haven't seen anything yet doesn't mean that Planet 10 isn't out there. It could be particularly hard to spot, dark and non-reflective, or hiding in a region of the sky where we haven't looked at in detail. If Planet 10 isn't out there, that means something else is causing the strange orbits of all the objects in the Kuiper Belt, which might be an even bigger mystery.
It will probably take a very long time to find out for sure if Planet 10 is really out there, but expect a lot of astronomers and planetary experts to weigh in over the coming weeks and months. If Planet 10 does exist it'll only be a matter of time until we find it.

Questions for a UFO Expert: Bruce Maccabee on the Real X-Files, Roswell and His Own UFO Sighting
As scientific disciplines go, UFOlogy (pronounced you-FOL-oh-gee)—the study of understanding unidentified flying objects—does not get the level of respect that's accorded to, say, physics. Dr. Bruce Maccabee has a foot in both fields. He was an optical physicist for the U.S. Navy, now retired, and doubles as a dedicated ufologist. PM talked to Maccabee this week about his work.
Bruce Maccabee traces his involvement with UFOlogy to a lecture he attended by an UFO hunting organization called the National Investigations Committee on Aerial Phenomena. At the time, he was earning his doctorate in physics at American University in Washington, D.C., and soon after the lecture, he signed up to volunteer for the Committee's office. Maccabee has since gone on to investigate dozens of UFO incidents including the Trent Farm incident of 1950, and he has written more than a hundred papers as one of the preeminent voices in the formal science of removing the "un" from "unidentified flying objects."
PM: What is the FBI's "flying-disc file"?
Maccabee: The FBI's flying-disc file began in the summer of 1947 after sightings of what we now call UFOs began in earnest. A sighting in Mount Rainer, Washington, was the first such event to be publicized in national newspapers in the United States. Kenneth Arnold, the witness and an experienced pilot, talked about semicircular craft traveling at great speed and flipping and flashing as they bounced along. He said it was somewhat like skipping a saucer on the water, which led to some clever newsman coining "flying saucers." A barrage of flying saucer sightings followed, including reports from Air Force officers seeing unknown things fly over their bases. On July 10, top Air Force intelligence generals asked the FBI if they would investigate to see if Communist sympathizers were generating spurious, false stories about craft with extreme dynamic capabilities to scare the American people into thinking that the Soviet Union had gotten far ahead of us. That was considered subversive activity, and of course the FBI was hot on subversion at the time. The FBI investigated for two months, interviewing a dozen or so witnesses, and some of the case reports were filed under--believe it or not--"Security Matter X." So we're talking about the real X-Files.
How did you get access to these documents?
I had filed a Freedom of Information Act request in the fall of 1976, so I figured sometime around 2010 I would get a response. So I was very surprised when I got a phone call at my desk in May 1977 from a very surprised FBI investigator saying he'd found 1600 pages of UFO-related stuff.
What is in these X-Files?
Amid the interoffice memoranda and newspaper clippings, I realized there was some pretty hot-potato stuff. For example, it was the first time that there was any public knowledge of the FBI's involvement with UFO investigations. J. Edgar Hoover [the long-time FBI Director] had lied in the 1960s about that. Though the FBI found no evidence of pro-Communist subversion, this arrangement opened a doorway for the Air Force to contact the FBI and send more UFO information. From then on the FBI acted like a black hole--stuff would go in, but nothing would come out. Basically, the Air Force continued telling things about UFOs to the FBI that they did not share with the American public. In 1998, the X-Files were posted on the FBI's website, and you can read more in my book called The UFO/FBI Connection.
What about the Roswell, New Mexico, incident of July 7, 1947, when a flying saucer allegedly crashed in the desert?
I think Roswell was covered up to the extent that people in Air Force intelligence didn't even know about it. The FBI is involved in a piece of it, too--a document notes that telephonic conversation between Air Force people indicated that the crash remains did not fully meet the description of a weather balloon (the official explanation). For those of us on the outside, we have no hard evidence. The case for Roswell actually started in 1979 when Jesse Marcel, the Army Major who played a role in the recovery of the crash debris, started publicly saying how he thought it was an alien spaceship. Until then, Roswell had totally dropped out of UFO history.
It was September 16, 1991, in Gulf Breeze, Florida. In November 1990 they started having nightly reports of this red light thing in the sky that very often would burst into flashes and go out. Sometimes it went from white to red or back. Mostly it was one object, but sometimes there were multiple ones. News crews went down there several times, and from as far away as Japan and Germany. It was thought that these sightings might be gas bag balloons with flares attached--a hoax. But triangulation of an object showed that it moved at 30 miles per hour crosswind, which can only be done if you have a powered device. So if it was a hoax, you'd have to have a blimp or perhaps an unmanned aerial vehicle that carried one or more complex pyrotechnic display devices. It couldn't just be a regular road flare given the color changes and flashing. If this is a hoax, it's a major one. I thought I had better go. So one night we're out there at the south end of the Pensacola Bay Bridge and a lady yelled, "There it is!" I looked up in the sky and saw a spot of lights. Then through my binoculars--the standard necklace for night-watching--I saw the image resolve itself into eight tiny white lights with a yellow tinge. I went ahead and tried to do my measurements. I had brought with me a "big ear," which is a sensitive microphone for listening at a distance. I couldn't hear a thing. The UFO moved somewhat and then disappeared. I didn't call the guys in white coats to take me away because 30 other people saw the same thing. We got a lot of pictures of these sightings, which allowed for analysis. By knowing how big the image is on film, you can calculate its angular size out to a distance of a mile or two or 10. In this instance, it got to the point where it was like turning on a chandelier, tens of feet in diameter, at an altitude of a mile--now how the hell do you do that?

Even within the much-maligned and widely misunderstood field of “UFOlogy,” Steven Greer is a divisive figure.
His affinity for the spotlight and his willingness to dive deep into areas of the subject where other UFO researchers fear to tread have painted him with a broader target for contention than many of his contemporaries. He is at it once again with the recent book-and-film combo Unacknowledged: An Exposé of the Greatest Secret in Human History — the compelling documentary half of which will receive its Toronto premiere coupled with a Q&A with Greer this Saturday. The event is open to non-conference attendees as part of the three-day Alien Cosmic Expo UFO symposium taking place over the weekend at the Airport Crowne Plaza Hotel.
Greer is not easing off. As he puts it, Unacknowledged — the book and the film, the latter directed by first-time documentarian Michael Mazzola — “really take people from zero to 100 quickly.”
The Unacknowledged project basically lays all the cards on the table this former emergency-room physician from Charlotte, N.C., has accumulated during his 24 years advocating for official, institutional “disclosure” of what government, military and the intelligence community really know about unidentified flying objects at the helm of the Disclosure Project.
But these days Greer is pushing it all one step further.
Unacknowledged alleges that a military-industrialist cabal of semi-public/semi-private interests has had access to technology reverse-engineered from crashed UFOs for more than half a century that would render all known terrestrial sources of power and propulsion obsolete, and yet has withheld it from the public due to its defence value and the potential damage its unveiling would pose to the “global macroeconomic order.”
Some, the book and the film contend, would also like to keep this all under wraps because beyond-top-secret terrestrial capabilities to reproduce alien craft could be very useful in psychological warfare — even in staging an entire “false-flag” invasion by imagined alien aggressors from the stars.
“Well, that’s the problem,” says Greer.
“One of the reasons I’m doing what I’m doing is that there are people within the intelligence community who don’t know how to get themselves out of that hole and yet they’re very supportive of disclosure, and they’ve told me this.
“If you read between the lines of what I just said, what I’m saying to you — and you’re welcome to print this — is that there are some very powerful interests who realize that they are stuck in this black hole and they don’t know how to get out of it because it would create a scandal thousands of times worse than Watergate or Russia-gate or whatever the latest scandal is that the Washington Post and the New York Times and perhaps your paper are obsessing on.”
Far-fetched, perhaps. But to develop a serious interest in the serious study of UFOs — and there is serious study out there, despite the subject’s persistent reputation as the obsession of conspiracy theorists and tinfoil-hat-wearing nutjobs — requires not only concurrently developing a thick skin against accusations that you are a conspiracy theorist, a tinfoil-hat-wearing nutjob or some combination thereof, but also doing enough research into the matter that you can start to sort the credible stuff from the lunacy.
That’s not always easy. As Greer notes: “There’s so much nonsensical information out there on the subject that it self-ridicules.”
Still, UFO lore is rife with much documentary evidence, and remaining ignorant, as Greer sees it, will only allow those in the know to use whatever hidden knowledge they might have for further hidden purposes. And he’s dead serious about false UFO events being potentially used to manipulate the public.
“Look, we stampeded into Iraq after 9/11 without there being a scintilla of evidence that Iraq had anything to do with 9/11 and we know now that that was completely a hoax.
“So the question becomes how easy is it for the intelligence community using their mouthpieces in the media . . . to put out a scenario that would scare the hell out of people so that people would give up their liberties and their finances and what have you — their blood and treasure — to stampede into the next big thing, which has been planned for 60 years and that is a conflict between humans and other planetary societies.
“Now, it’s completely nonsensical. It’s as nonsensical as going into Iraq was, but we did go into Iraq and there are hundreds of thousands of people dead as a result and now Syria has blown apart. So there are consequences to this . . .
“The majority of people already believe there is intelligent life out there and the last poll I saw said that 43 per cent of Americans think we’re currently being visited. More than half the public all over the world believes that UFOs are real and that governments are hiding something. So that battle has been won, but the larger argument has to still be engaged.
“And that’s why we made this film, in part, to expose what the secret agenda has been and the disinformation campaigns.”

Philip Schneider died on January 17, 1996, shortly after conducting several controversial lectures throughout the US, including Denver where he covered topics such as, Space-Defense, black helicopters, railroad cars built with shackles, extraterrestrials and the secret black budget.
He was reportedly strangled by a catheter found wrapped around his neck – the bizarre death being dismissed by the authorities as suicide.
If the circumstances of his death seem highly controversial, they are matched by the controversy over his public statements uttered shortly before his death.
Philip Schneider was a self-taught geologist and explosives expert. Of the 1,477 underground bases around the world, 129 deep underground facilities of which were located in the United States, he claimed to have worked on 13.
Two of these bases were major, including the much rumored bioengineering facility at Dulce, New Mexico.
At Dulce, Schneider maintained, “gray” humanoid extraterrestrials worked side by side with American technicians. In 1979, a misunderstanding arose. In the ensuing shootout, 66 Secret Service, FBI and Black Berets were killed along with an unspecified number of “grays”.
It was here he received a beam-weapon blast to the chest which caused his later cancer many have confirmed that a large scar indeed existed.
Philip Schneider recounts his encounter with extraterrestrials in the following excerpt:
“I was involved in building an addition to the deep underground military base at Dulce, which is probably the deepest base. My job was to go down the holes and check the rock samples, and recommend the explosive to deal with the particular rock.
“As I was headed down there, we found ourselves amidst a large cavern that was full of outer-space aliens, otherwise known as large Greys. I shot two of them.
“At that time, there were 30 people down there. About 40 more came down after this started, and all of them got killed. We had surprised a whole underground base of existing aliens.
“Later, we found out that they had been living on our planet for a long time, perhaps a million years. This could explain a lot of what is behind the theory of ancient astronauts.”
An fire exchange occurred between gray aliens and secret service personnel.

Schneider maintained that numerous previous attempts had been made on his life, including the removal of the nuts from one of the front wheels of his automobile.
He had stated publicly he was a marked man and did not expect to live long.
“If I ever ‘commit suicide’,” Schneider told a close friend, “I’ll have been murdered.”
Some of Schneider’s more major accusations are worthy of attention:
1) The American government concluded a treaty with “gray” aliens in 1954. This mutual cooperation pact is called the Grenada Treaty.
2) The space shuttle has been producing special alloys in orbit. A vacuum is needed for the creation of these special metals, thereby justifying the mandate for a large, permanently manned space station.
3) Much of our stealth aircraft technology was developed by back-engineering crashed alien craft.
4) AIDS was a population control virus invented by the National Ordinance Laboratory, Chicago, Illionois.
5) Unbeknownst to just about everyone, the US government has an earthquake device. Neither the 1995 Kobe earthquake nor the 1989 San Francisco quake had a pulse wave.
6) The World Trade Center bomb blast and the Oklahoma City blast were achieved using small nuclear devices. The melting and pitting of the concrete and the extrusion of metal supporting rods indicated this. (Schneider’s forte, he claimed, was explosives.)
Finally, Phil Schneider lamented that the democracy he loved no longer existed: we had become instead a technocracy ruled by a shadow government intent on imposing their own view of things on all of us, whether we like it or not.
He believed 11 of his best friends had been murdered in the last 22 years, eight of whose deaths had been officially explained as suicides.
Whatever one might think of Phil Schneider’s claims, it’s clear that he was of particular interest to the FBI and CIA.
His widow has stated that intelligence agents thoroughly searched the premises shortly after his death and made off with at least a third of the family photographs.

Most of us do not believe in aliens but looking at this strange fossil might just make you stop and think.
This relic is in fact the ancient fossil that inspired the extra-terrestrial antagonists in Ridley Scott’s classic sci-fi horror, Alien.
The creator of Alien was Swiss surrealist artist, Hans Rudolf Giger, who was sought out by Ridley Scott to design the creatures after he saw Giger’s artwork Necronom IV, one among his many designs that are said to have been based on the fossils.

But the stranger than fiction fossil is actually the remains of an early form of life that existed on our own planet an incredible 300 million years ago.
And the extremely rare fossil captured the public imagination so much when it went on display in Switzerland that it not only attracted plenty of visitors, it also tempted a thief.
Police believe the thief – who broke into the case and stole the Aathal dinosaur museum’s prize exhibit – is a fossil collector.

Last week police released the photo in a bid to find the exhibit and track down whoever who took it.
And now the priceless piece has been returned after it was put into the museum’s post box tucked inside a padded envelope.
Museum curator Dr. Thomas Bolliger said: ‘It was comparatively undamaged – although one of the arms had broken off.
‘It really is a remarkable fossil and shows two separate species of a spineless animal that lived at the bottom of the sea around 300 million years ago.’
A museum spokesman added: ‘It is a very valuable but also a very unique fossil and it will be very difficult for anybody to sell or indeed to keep secret given the publicity around the theft.’

The following account, from Terry – of Shingle Springs, California – is without doubt one of the most chilling MIB-themed reports ever to have reached me. And, taking into consideration the large number of reports I get on a regular basis, I don’t state those words lightly. Terry tells a fascinatingly weird and creepy saga of a face-to-face encounter with an old and sinister man in Black forty years ago. In Terry’s own uninterrupted words: “This encounter occurred during the day time thirty five years ago in 1977 at a Winchell’s in Sunnyvale, California, I was just sixteen years of age at the time. My best friend and I had just finished our coffee and were heading for the doorway to leave. As we were passing a man seated at one of the tables, he reached out and firmly grabbed my wrist. In that moment my first reaction was to jerk away from his grip, but looking down at him I realized that he was a very old man and I felt in that moment that he was harmless. He was dressed in black wearing an old fashioned hat and suit, his clothing looked like it was from the 1930’s. He was extremely pale, very thin and appeared to be very old, I guessed in his 80’s or 90’s.
“He told my friend and I that he was a palm reader, a very good one, he claimed and could he please do us a favor by giving us each a reading. My friend and I talked briefly to each other about his offer and agreed to let him. I first sat down across the table from him, then as my friend was starting to sit down along side of me, he stopped her and asked her to please go sit a few tables away out of earshot from us, explaining that the information was going to be direct and personal, we would need some privacy. She complied and moved several tables away.
“Once my friend was seated away from us, I placed my hands on the table in front of him, palms up and looked into the man’s face, it was then that I noticed the old man’s eyes were completely glazed over with cataracts, he was surely blind I thought, as his gaze was unfixed and unfocused in my direction. I asked him how long had he been a psychic? He responded by saying that his ability had nothing to do with being psychic and emphasized that it had everything to do with ‘science.’
“He began by talking about my early childhood experiences along with some very painful incidents that had occurred to me in which he had precise and detailed information that I was sure no one could have known about. Quite suddenly I felt very vulnerable and exposed as he recounted these events, his knowledge unnerved me to my very core. Staring straight ahead he moved along into my present situation, lecturing and chastising me like a father would a child, for some poor choices I had made during that time. All the while he broke a doughnut down into tiny pieces. My mind raced as I tried to figure out how on earth could he know this stuff? It was then in that moment that I would forever change my ideas of ‘secrets kept’ and how I viewed my own identity in the world. Apparently ‘nothing’ could be hidden from myself or anyone else for that matter. I felt naked in the truth.
“He continued this reading now delving into my future and that of upcoming world events, with stories sometimes so harsh and brutal that I clearly remember wondering if I would ever ‘catch a break in life?’ Among other things, he warned me of a time when that by speaking about my UFO experiences I would anger ‘the governmental powers that be’ and he cautioned that I would be dealing with very dangerous people and circumstances. He rambled on often emphasizing again that this all had to do with ‘science.’
“I then asked him if he could see any kind of success coming to me, ever? He responded by telling me, ‘You will not find success in life, you will die of a broken heart. It will be a better stronger woman who will be successful.’ As I listened to his words I began to cry and he sharply asked me, ‘Are you going to lay down and die like a frightened whore, or are you going to be willing to stand up and fight like a worthy warrior?’ I was stunned into silence and then he said, ‘Whether you realize this or not, I have done you a huge favor today and I will be returning to see you in the future, years from now to collect on it.’
“As a side note, I do not recall the exact time he said, but do recall thinking ‘You’ll be long dead by then old man.’ Our reading ended, he asked me to leave the table and he then waived for my friend to come over to sit with him. He spent all of five minutes with her and when she arose from the table she was badly shaken and would only say that she hoped that what he predicted for her was not true.
“As we exited the doughnut shop I tried to press my friend for more information because she was crying, but she was too upset to speak about what he had said to her. Once out on the street the both of us walking together toward home, my friend asked me to tell her about what the old man said to me in my reading with him, she pointed out that the reading he gave went on for an hour and forty five minutes with me. I was lost for words when she spoke up and said, ‘Linda I don’t think he was a person, I think that old man was an alien.’
“Right in that moment as she was speaking we watched as an old black 1930’s or 40’s gangster type car with running boards pull out of the parking lot and pass us on the street, there was no driver at the wheel and the same old man that we had met, was riding in the back seat. Our mouths dropped as we watched the car pass by us and at the same time a whirlwind picked up and swirled around our feet. We watched the car disappear from view making a turn further down the street, I then shook my head and responded to her with ‘No, he was just a creepy old man in black.’
“Over the years during the course of our friendship my friend and I would many times ponder and question our meeting with ‘the old man in black.’ We could not understand who or what he was and neither of us would reveal to the other exactly what his frightening messages to each of us separately were, agreeing only that we felt that he was speaking the truth and that it was frightening for both us. We would part ways and our friendship ended in 1988 when I came out to her about my lifelong UFO experiences and the old man’s messages to me. She mocked and ridiculed me in that moment. It was a very painful ending to our relationship for me. I would struggle with it for years.
“In 1988 when I began to seriously study the UFO phenomena I came across stories about these Men in Black, Master Tricksters and the like. It was then that I began to understand who and what they are and how this ‘old man in black‘ specifically related to me as that young teenager all those years ago and yet, I was still haunted by his promise to return to collect on that favor.
“During Christmas of 2009, alone in my mother’s apartment while she traveled, I found myself slipping into a deep depression and I was filled with despair. During the course of that year I had lost a job that I loved due to the economy, gone through a terrible break up with a man I could no longer love, I found out that my old friend who was with me in 1977 on that day with the ‘old man in black’ in Sunnyvale had died in 2008 from cancer and I had still not gotten over losing my beloved horse Meaghan, who had also died the year before, leaving me filled with a sorrow that I was not able to overcome.
“Starting on Christmas day I fasted and prayed for three days hoping that I could find some peace and comfort. It was then I realized that, I was indeed ‘heartbroken’ over my losses and suddenly the encounter with ‘the old man in black‘ came flooding back into my mind and would not leave me alone. In trying to escape his words and his terrible messages to me, I began drinking heavily at night until I could find some peace in sleep. This would go on into the beginning of 2011 when I finally began to slowly recover from the pain. I finally thought I had come to terms with that old man’s warnings and I successfully quit drinking, my attitude shifted and I was now looking forward to a great new year.
“In April of last year [Nick’s note: 2011] I discovered a lump in my breast and was at first unconcerned about it, I thought that it was probably a just a fibroid cyst that would go away on its own. I put off having it checked out until July when the lump had grown quite large and when the results came back positive for cancer I was shocked. Last month after trying a lot of alternative therapies in the prior months since July, I had a mastectomy. The pathology indicates that I have advanced stage cancer and once again the ‘old man in black’ and his words are haunting me. Oddly I find myself both eager and apprehensive as I await his return, but know that above all, I am no longer afraid.”
There ends Terry’s words. The story, however, is not quite over. There is one final, very strange story to tell. Terry emailed the above account to me on February 28, 2012. In the copy that arrived to me, after the final sentence above that ends “…I am no longer afraid,” were these words: “I will probably have to keep him at bay when he returns.” When I sent Terry’s text back to her, to show her how it would be formatted in the pages of this book, she replied that she did not write those words of ‘I will probably have to keep him at bay when he returns.’ Rather, the last words in the email Terry sent me stated that with respect to the old MIB, she ‘would embrace him warmly.’
In other words, the email she sent me was subtly different to the one which I received. To this day, I have not been able to explain how such an odd, and somewhat unsettling, change should have been made to Terry’s text. The bigger questions, of course, are: (a) who was responsible for making the change? and (b) why?
It’s a UFO. It’s a strange balloon. It’s a propeller-less drone. It’s a flying turtle. It’s an alien dumpling. Whatever it is, it was seen over Oshawa in Ontario last week and has defied identification.
“It came out of no where, this thing, I was walking back to my car and I just saw something pop out of no where, way up high, far away in the sky.”
Wildlife photographer Ken Rice claims he was taking photos in a marsh area near the General Motors of Canada headquarters at about 7:45 p.m. on June 17 when the object suddenly appeared in his field of vision.
“I was walking back to my car and I just saw something pop out of no where, way up high, far away in the sky. I thought it was a big turkey vulture so I just took a picture of it anyway and then it kind of hovered, sat there for a minute and then it took off.”
As is the case with many UFO sightings, Rice says he took a closer look at the photos at home and realized it wasn’t a turkey vulture but a … well, this experienced wildlife photographer couldn’t identify the object as anything he’d seen in nature. Thinking it was the ever-popular weather balloon, he scanned the Internet for balloons that might look like this UFO but claims he found none. That’s when he posted it for the UFO experts on the web to tell him what it is.
If the object is manmade, it doesn’t look like the kind of thing Oshawa would be proud of. This high tech city was once known as the “Automotive Capital of Canada” – the UFO was spotted over the headquarters of GM Canada – and is now the place to go in Canada for jobs in advanced manufacturing, health technology, logistics, energy and IT. The UFO doesn’t look like a promotional balloon or flying vehicle that GM would be using or testing and its shape is not something high tech drone designers would be proud of … even as a hoax.
Speaking of hoax, could Ken Rice be perpetrating one? It’s hard to believe a “wildlife photographer” would mistake that floating spiked pillow for a turkey vulture and the sky doesn’t look dark enough to play tricks on a trained photographer’s eye. If he’s been out in the marshes long enough, he would certainly recognize it if it was a native creature. And, if he truly is an experienced camera guy, he’d know a bug or speck of pollen flying in front of his lens. Also, if he’s handy with photographic software, his CGI would be better, wouldn’t it?
The most common suggestion is that the object is a helium party balloon shaped like the sun or a sunflower. Rice vehemently disagrees with this.
“A balloon wouldn’t go that fast and disappear No. 1, and it was too high. Nobody would be flying a kite there because it’s just railroad tracks and the road and there was nobody around there. I didn’t see anybody, and where did it go?”
Unfortunately, he took photos and not a video.

Toen we verder zochten, zagen we al vrij snel dat dit ook de manier was waarop ze tijdens 9/11 de Twin Towers in eerste instantie zwaar hebben beschadigd en ze ermee aanvielen.
Nu, iets meer dan tien dagen geleden, een enorme brand in de Grenfell toren in West Londen waarbij tientallen mensen om het leven kwamen.
Met de eerdere UFO aanslagen van in gedachten, lijkt het op bovenstaande beelden dat men deze UFO even heeft langs gestuurd om te kijken of de missie is gelukt.
Er zijn natuurlijk de laatste anderhalve week al talloze geluiden te horen geweest over hoe deze brand misschien wel eens aangestoken zou kunnen zijn.
Terwijl de mainstream-media allemaal braaf het verhaaltje plaatsen van een exploderende koelkast van een merk en type waar nog nooit eerder dit soort problemen mee zijn gemeld, zien doorgewinterde onderzoekers toch wel degelijk tekenen die erop wijzen dat hier opzet in het spel is.
De onroerend goed markt in Londen is net zoals die in New York in handen van leden van de Sekte van het Alziend Oog, ook wel de Sabbateans genoemd. Je komt daar bijvoorbeeld in New York heel prominent de naam van Jared Kushner tegen, de schoonzoon van Donald Trump en de vertegenwoordiger van Tel Aviv in het Witte Huis.
Naast alle politieke overwegingen zat er bijvoorbeeld bij de aanslag van 9/11 ook een heel andere kant aan de zaak en dat had alles te maken met onroerend goed.
Voorafgaand aan 9/11 waren er behoorlijke problemen met de Twin Towers vanwege asbest dat erin voorkwam. Er was door een rechtbank bepaald dat alle asbest verwijderd moest worden, een klus die vele miljoenen dollars, er wordt gesproken zelfs over miljarden, zou hebben gekost. In ieder geval veel meer dan de gebouwen op dat moment waard waren.
Naast de asbestproblemen waren er nog talloze andere, zoals de leegstand in het gebouw, een zwaar verouderde communicatiestructuur binnen de gebouwen en men was ze eigenlijk liever kwijt dan rijk.
En dus schuift de Sekte een “goedwillende burger” naar voren, de crimineel Larry Silverstein die zoals een goede Chazaar betaamd zijn fortuin had verdiend in de seksindustrie. Deze koopt in juli 2001 het gebouw en verdubbelt het bedrag voor terrorisme verzekering.
Dat Larry Silverstein een goede persoonlijke vriend is van de Israëlische premier Benjamin Netanyahu berust puur op toeval en daar moet verder niets achter gezocht worden.
Op de dag van de aanslag moest de heer Silverstein helaas zijn gebruikelijke ontbijt op de bovenste verdieping van de noordelijke toren aan zich voorbij laten gaan omdat zijn vrouw hem er gelukkig aan had herinnerd dat hij een afspraak had met de huidarts. Het toeval wil dat zijn dochter een vergelijkbare reden had om die ochtend niet in de toren aanwezig te zijn.
De rest van het verhaal is simpelweg dat Silverstein in totaal zo'n vijf miljard dollar contant ontving in verzekeringsgeld voor een totale investering van 15 miljoen dollar, met daarnaast nog eens het recht om een nieuw gebouw neer te zetten.
Dezelfde soort figuren hebben ook de onroerend goed markt in Londen in handen en natuurlijk willen ze het liefst die arme lui uit deze wijk hebben zodat ze dure appartementen kunnen neerzetten voor het rijkere deel van de bevolking.
Is de gevelbeplating aangebracht om er zo voor te zorgen dat een brand zich niet alleen heel snel verspreid, maar dit ook doet volgens een bepaald patroon?
Hebben we hier een soort herhaling van brandende Twin Towers, waarbij prominent het getal 11 in beeld komt, één van de meest heilige bij satanisten en vrijmetselaars?

Astronomers believe they have found signs of a planet with a mass between that of Earth and Mars beyond Neptune.

Neptune – the eighth planet in our Solar System – is the furthest from the Sun so far proven to exist.
Scientists claimed to have discovered a ninth planet beyond Neptune – dubbed somewhat unimaginatively “Planet Nine”.
So – if it’s existence is confirmed – the new planet would be the tenth world in our Solar System.
Only a heavenly body the size of Mars or bigger would have enough mass to alter the orbits of other objects in the Kuiper Belt, researchers at the University of Arizona's Lunar and Planetary Laboratory say.
Research fellow Kat Volk, of LPL – whose study will be published in The Astronomical Journal – said: “The most likely explanation for our results is that there is some unseen mass.
“According to our calculations, something as massive as Mars would be needed to cause the warp that we measured."

The LPL team are sure their calculations point to a new planet – not Planet 9.
Planet 9 – which was also discovered through its effects on objects in the Kuiper Belt – is thought to be four times the size of Earth and 10 times its mass.
It is believed to be about 500 to 700 “astronomical units” from Earth – up to 65 trillion miles away.
Whatever is affecting the Kuiper Belt objects the researchers have spotted is much nearer.

Ms Volk said: “[Planet 9] is too far away to influence these Kuiper Belt objects.
"It certainly has to be much closer than 100 AU to substantially affect the KBOs in that range."
The team hope a new telescope being built in Chile, the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope, may help them check out more objects in the Kuiper Belt, including the possible Planet 10.
