LAS VEGAS - A global scramble is underway to identify and perhaps replicate unidentified mystery materials that have been collected at multiple sites around the world.
A few of the samples have defied analysis by leading scientists, who say they don't know how the material was engineered, or why, or by whom?
Some of the metamaterial was allegedly collected in connection with UFO incidents, which gives the whole endeavor an otherworldly glow.
For years, the Pentagon secretly studied the seemingly impossible abilities of unknown craft captured in military videos.
Scientists now want to know if the materials used in these mystery aircraft allow them to do what they do. For years, one of the secret studies was carried out by BAASS (Bigelow Aerospace Advanced Space Studies), a Las Vegas operation hidden within Bigelow Aerospace.
Documents first reported by the I-Team show that BAASS landed a contract with the DIA (Defense Intelligence Agency), and one of the objectives was to study so called metamaterials, as well as futuristic technologies.
"It was a multilayered bismuth and magnesium sample. Bismuth layers less than a human hair. Magnesium samples about 10 times the size of a human hair, supposedly picked up in the crash retrieval of an advanced aerospace vehicle. It looks like it's been in a crash," said Dr. Hal Puthoff, with the Institute for Advanced Studies during a presentation in Las Vegas.
In June, physicist Hal Puthoff came pretty close to saying that the weird wedge of metamaterial came from a crashed saucer, but he can't know for sure. Puthoff and his colleague Dr. Eric Davis are on the cutting edge of attempts to identify an assortment of bits and pieces that are seemingly beyond anything we can create.
This one sample is engineered in layers thinner than microns, through a process unknown on earth, and for a purpose we can only guess.
"Nowhere could we find any evidence that anybody ever made one of these when we talked to people in the materials field who should know, they said we don't know why anybody would want to make anything like this," Dr. Puthoff said.
Astrophysicist Dr. Jacques Vallee has been analyzing mystery materials since the 80s, often using the technical expertise of Stanford University and Silicon Valley to unravel unknown samples acquired from all over the world. Vallee pointedly steers clear of any military funding and he's shared his findings at public conferences.
"We have multiple samples from multiple sources, a wide range of variety and integrity," said Lue Elizondo, To The Stars Academy.
These days, former intelligence officer Lue Elizondo helps to collect and protect unknown chunks for To The Stars Academy. Before that, he ran AATIP (Advanced Aviation Threat Identification Program), the Pentagon's secret UFO study. The same one which released the now famous videos of encounters between Navy pilots and the mystery machines dubbed the Tic Tac and Gimbal UFOs.
This summer, To The Stars launched ADAM, its own effort to find and study pieces of material that may have been stashed for decades after being retrieved from the sites of close encounters. Elizondo says there are legitimate reasons why the military, and now private groups, are now in a race to figure out these materials.
"What our international efforts are to potentially -- and I say potentially, I'm not saying we're doing this, maybe to replicate that technology or to reverse engineer that technology. Now you're getting into sensitivities you don't necessarily want everyone to be privy to," Elizondo said in a June 2018 interview with the I-Team.
When the New York Times broke its story last year about the Pentagon's UFO story, it reported that a sample of mystery material was secretly stored at Bigelow aerospace. Managers of that program told the I-Team that while they are familiar with some of the metamaterial samples, none were ever stashed in Las Vegas.

Hundreds of birds have fallen from the sky in The Hague, the Netherlands, during a 5G experiment to see how large the range was and whether the new wireless technology would cause any harm in the local area.
News of the adverse effects suffered by the starlings was slow to break, as initially the birds died in small numbers during the first wave of the experiment. However when a further 150 birds suddenly died at the same time, falling into a public park, people began to take notice and investigate.
What caused the death of 297 birds in a park in The Hague?
If you look around that park you might have seen what is on the corner of the roof across the street from where they died: a new 5G mast, where they had done a test at almost the exact same time as the birds fell from the sky.
According to reports, nearby ducks seemed to react oddly as well. They simultaneously put their heads underwater to escape the radiation, while others flew away, landing on the street or in the canal.

The birds that fell massively dead would be the victims of an experiment, performed on those days in The Hague, where RF radiation was tested with a peak frequency of 7.40 GHz. This information comes from one source and should still be confirmed, if possible.
It is not clear at this moment whether tests with 5G transmission masts have been carried out again, but so far everything points in the direction of 5G as the most probable cause. Earlier, crazy things happened, such as with cows in Groningen’s Loppersum last year, where it was also tested with 5G. But also how in Switzerland a complete herd of cows collapsed in a ravine when there was tested with 5G.
In the Huijgenspark in The Hague, more than a hundred starlings have fallen dead from the trees in recent days. It is a mystery what happened to the animals.
The Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) is having a number of birds examined in the laboratory of Wageningen Bioveterinary Research. Parts of the park are blocked and dogs are no longer allowed to be let out. The dead birds are always cleaned up as quickly as possible. Yet it is a lugubrious scene. Council member Robert Barker of the Party for the Animals had the feeling of being on a ‘crime scene’. “The fact that so many birds fall from the sky at this location must have a cause and must be investigated. If there is talk of poisoning, then we have to take a hard time. ”
It is also possible that the birds have a disease. “In any case, it’s going fast. The animals are not emaciated, do not seem ill. They just fall dead from the tree, “says employee Sharon Lexmond of bird shelter De Wulp.

This wavelength is of the same order of magnitude as the size of the starlings. This may be important because of possible resonance effects. The mast in question is about 400 meters from where the starlings have fallen dead. This information comes from one source and should still be confirmed, if possible.

For several days in a row, dead starlings fall from the sky in the Huijgenspark in The Hague. It is estimated that around 150 birds have already lost their lives. What is the cause of this is being investigated?
The Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority, the Dutch Wildlife Health Center and a Wageningen University laboratory are investigating the cause of death of the starlings. A veterinarian of bird care De Wulp performed a number of birds last week. She only found internal bleeding and no trace of poison.

“Last year we had the same situation at the Haagse Hogeschool, where it was renovated at the time ”, says an employee of the Animal Ambulance.” Then dozens of dead jackdaws were found, which were probably poisoned because they had been drinking polluted water. What is going on right now is really speculating. Hopefully, we know more next week, because this is not normal. ”

Again, dead starlings have been found in the Huijgenspark in The Hague. More than ninety dead birds were spread across the park in the Stationsbuurt.
We took the birds. Last time, five of the deceased starlings were examined by a local specialist. It did not show signs of poison, but only internal bleeding in two copies. The newly found starlings are examined by the specialized Wageningen Bioveterinary Research laboratory in Lelystad and the Dutch Wildlife Health Center in Utrecht.
The municipality has promulgated a ban on dogs in the area because the cause of the mortality is unclear. Poisoning is taken into account. The area has been blocked by the police.

How is the current state of affairs with regard to the dead starlings?
Last Friday, Wednesday and Thursday, a total of +/- 150 deceased starlings were found in the Huijgenspark in The Hague. On Sunday, Thursday and Friday our veterinarian visited and carried out a total of 15 animals and collected material for further research. On Wednesday, the NVWA collected a cargo of birds that were examined in Lelystad on West Nile Virus. The negative result has now arrived.
On Thursday, the Dutch Wildlife Health Center also picked up a load of birds and we got a result today. Both veterinarians (ours and those from the DWHC) discussed their findings with each other. (Birds in good condition, some small bleeding in some animals, good for the upcoming winter, empty stomachs.) It is a very strange story!
Components of the deceased birds now go to various institutes for further research into rat poison and various viruses. On Monday the preparations are ready and the microscopic examination is started. In the meantime, the municipality has instituted an outlet ban in the park until further notice.
We will keep you informed and hope that we will get a quick answer regarding the bizarre deaths.

There is, of course, no certainty about the cause. There are stronger 4G and IoT channels in the vicinity near the park. In July there was also 5G tested, but then the birds did not swarm and they did not arrive in the park. IoT has also been active since 30 October 2017, so it is only briefly active with a safe distance (for humans) of 7.4 meters and with a 2000 Watt transmitter at less than 200 meters from the park main beam direction exactly across the park. Also at the same distance LTE channels and at another location also LTE stations etc. Here again exactly about the park.
The truth about the safety of 5G is that it’s not safe and corporations are being allowed to roll out the new technology before they are sure about it’s effects.( Or because they already know it’s very harmfull to humans and animals and thats why they want to roll it out as fast as possible before any “public testings” that would be mae this technology banned from being rolled out.)
The roll out of 5G technology is a “massive bio-experiment” that will have “disastrous consequences” for the human race, according to the first major university study into the controversial wireless service — and a coalition of 200 leading scientists and doctors are calling for an urgent stop to the roll out.
“5G technology is a very real danger,” warns Dr. Moskowitz, a public health professor at the University of California. “The deployment of 5G, or fifth generation cellular technology, constitutes a massive experiment on the health of all species,” he said.
With the death of the birds in the Netherlands, we are already starting to see the results of 5G technology.

After suffering a couple technical glitches that have put NASA's Curiosity rover off its duties on Mars this year, the robotic explorer seems to be back in full health, having driven to a new site and drilled a sampling hole, according to NASA statements.
That hole is its 18th successful drilling assignment, according to NASA. It targeted a type of rock geologists with the mission have been eyeing for more than a month, but failed to successfully drill at a previous site. The drill was out of commission between late 2016 and this May as engineers addressed a problem with the instrument.
But the rover had better luck at the new site, nicknamed Highfield. Curiosity is now analyzing the powder it was able to produce, which should tell scientists more about the rock at the site. The rover will also be watching how the little pile moves over time, which essentially creates weather observations by tracking wind movement, according to NASA.
It's a particularly interesting time for weather observations on Mars because Curiosity's robotic companion, Opportunity, remains silent on the opposite side of the planet after a global dust storm earlier this year. Scientists hope that a seasonal weather phenomenon known as dust devils will be able to clear any lingering dust off Opportunity's solar panels and help it return to normal operations.
In order to reach the new science site, Curiosity had to drive about 197 feet (60 meters), according to NASA. The journey comes a month after engineers running the rover were forced to switch Curiosity to its back-up brain after a computer glitch occured on Sept. 15.
Engineers are still trying to figure out what went wrong on the computer the rover had been relying on before the switch. Although the rover doesn't need both computers operating at once, they do want to repair the problem and switch back because the offline computer has more memory.

Aangezien eerst even de zon scheen en toen onweerswolken binnen begonnen te rollen, werd de lucht helemaal paars en zong iedereen in de stad het lied “Purple Rain” van de onlangs overleden Prince.
Volgens Nancy Lieder van Zetatalk wordt dit soort verschijnselen veroorzaakt door een combinatie van het ijzeroxide stof in wat zij noemt de “staart van Niburu”, die zich vermengt met luchtvervuiling zoals je die in Houston aantreft. Dit zorgt ervoor dat in plaats van een rode kleur de hemel boven de stad paars kleurt.
We gaan nu richting einde van het jaar en het aantal mensen dat vreemde paarse luchten ziet, schijnt toe te nemen.
Op 13 oktober werd de volgend opname gemaakt in de Amerikaanse staat Ohio. Het valt de getuige dusdanig op dat hij ervoor naar buiten gaat, constateert dat het geen lamp is en dat dit in een bepaald gedeelte van de lucht voor komt.
Ook de volgende opname is op dezelfde dag gemaakt in Ohio door iemand die onderweg was om te tanken. Ook deze zegt nog nooit een dergelijke lucht te hebben gezien:

Allemaal mensen die zich afvragen hoe het kan dat de lucht paars is en allemaal mensen die zeggen nog nooit eerder zoiets gezien te hebben.
Antarctica continues to dominate the news, with the discovery of lost continents, scientists stabbing each other and that amazing perfectly-rectangular iceberg. Speaking of that berg, its popularity has inspired NASA to forget about the dead Martian rover for a while and try and figure exactly how it formed. It did, and the answer is …
Not so fast! We might as well join NASA and milk this frozen squareberg for all it’s worth. After the tabular iceberg was discovered in October 2018 by NASA scientist Jeremy Harbeck while riding in a plane when he was supposed to be studying changes in the thickness of the glaciers and ice sheets, speculation on its pointed to A-68, the massive iceberg that broke off from the Larsen C Ice Shelf in 2017. This sounded plausible since A-68 was travelling into slightly warmer waters and banging into the coast and other icebergs. Ice on the thinner edges could easily break off along a straight line.

However, when it comes to tracking the lineage of icebergs, the proof is in the pictures. NASA went far above Jeremy Harbeck’s Operation IceBridge plane to images from its Landsat 8 and the European Space Agency’s Sentinel-1 satellites taken over the past few years. Scanning the Larsen C ice shelf, they found that the squareberg actually broke of from it rather than A-68 just weeks after the monster berg’s violent exit, which probably left the edges of Larsen C in a weakened state.

The image of the birth of the squareberg (seen here) shows just how tiny the 4 km long iceberg is in relation to A-68, which is often compared to states or small countries. What surprised NASA researchers more than its shape was that it stayed relatively intact for a year as it floated very close to both the ice-bull-in-a-china-shop A-68, which is constantly colliding with the Bawden Ice Rise, an elevated ice shelf on Larsen C, and other smaller icebergs. While still rectangular, it’s down to 1500 meters by 900 meters and tending towards a trapezoid with just two parallel sides.
Still, it’s pretty impressive … as is NASA’s quick work in using its satellites to accurately pinpoint its place of origin. Now, if they could just use the same satellites to find keys and remote controls …
Time travel. It is a staple of science fiction and has long captured the imagination. It seems as if that is the realm in which it should stay, within movies and books, and entertaining yarn but far from reality. Yet in this day and age of the Internet there have been people given a voice that they never had before, and cases have come out of the woodwork of people who actually claim to be time travelers. Not only that, but some of them actually say that they have the evidence to prove it. Outlandish, surreal, and always bizarre, here are some cases of self-professed time travelers who say they can prove it.
A very strange individual came forward in November of 2017 with quite a bizarre and colorful tale to tell, and would go on to become quite the media and viral video sensation at the time. The man calls himself Noah, and claims that he is in fact from the future, the year 2030 to be exact, becoming stranded here in the present due to a “failed mission” in which he got “fired” and stuck in our present and decided to tell the world of the realities of time travel and of his experiences in a series of videos on YouTube. Of the machine that he used to jump through time, he has explained to news.com.au:
I have many body implications and things all over myself, and I step in this giant dome and these things fire up and basically a large electronic weight basically pushes you through time. It feels like if you got electrocuted.
The range of stories he has to tell of these adventures is as outlandish as it is entertaining. Noah claims that he was recruited into the government’s top secret time travel program at a very young age, and that he regularly took anti-aging pills to fight the aging effects that time travel had on his body, saying “When you time travel you gain time. When I was in junior high and I was a time traveler, I had to take these pills to make sure I don’t grow old while time travelling.” He also has made numerous predictions about the future, including that Trump will win a second term of presidency, that the granddaughter of Martin Luther King Jr., Yolanda Renee King, will become president at some point, and many others. According to Noah there will be a cure for cancer, that scientists will live on Mars in 2028, incidentally the same year we figure out time travel, and that we get into contact with extraterrestrials.
It all sounds pretty vague, rather unimaginative and not really that hard to guess, but what really made his story take off in the news is that he supposedly passed a lie detector test on all of this. He has also shown footage that he claims is from the future. At one point during his interview on YouTube he produces a smartphone and shows a futuristic looking city with red clouds ominously hanging over it, which he claims to be Las Vegas in the year 2120. It looks pretty questionable, as the video is stationary and doesn’t show much that couldn’t be altered through digital manipulation, but Noah has other “evidence” as well, such as an X-ray image showing a device within his hand that he says is integral for the time travel process, and he has claimed that he has even better evidence that he sadly cannot share for fear of triggering a paradox.

Throughout his whole video interview his face is obscured as he says he is in danger of being assassinated for what he is telling the rather skeptical interviewers, and many confessed time travelers do so. He also explains that he is alone, and that although he has family in the present he cannot meet them out of danger of meeting his younger self and causing a massive paradox. It is all a completely off the wall tale that has understandably drawn a lot of criticism, not only for its sheer bizarreness, but also from the fact that the video appears on the Apex TV YouTube channel, a paranormal research organization which is popular for its numerous time traveler stories and which many accuse of being full of hoaxes.
YouTube in general, and Apex TV in particular, are fertile grounds for such wild tales, and it is in this unchecked medium that alleged time travelers have come out of the woodwork. One is an anonymous man who says he worked out of London, where there was a secret laboratory called Globus, involved with testing and experimenting with all manner of bizarre technology, such as teleportation devices and of course time travel. He claims that the mysterious machine used to travel through time is called “The Time Queen,” and that a main component to its inner workings is powerful stone that emits some sort of alien, misunderstood energy. He has explained of this Time Queen:
The most important part in that machine was the piece of asteroid which has a radiation maker. The radiation of uranium is even weaker. The power of the stone has such energy it can destroy the whole planet. Fortunately, that energy only can be used in laboratory. Otherwise, the planet could be already destroyed. That energy can create time borders. We can outsmart computers to that energy and get an algorithm which transforms time to the mathematics, and this let us to travel through the time.
The machine was used to travel to the past in the United States, Russia and Britain, and frequently to 17th century China, but that certain limitations of the technology meant he could only travel a maximum of 4,000 years back in time. It all sounds completely off the rails, but this time traveler claims to have evidence in the form of a photo of a Swiss made watch that was allegedly found in the tomb of a 17th century Chinese soldier and which he says was a watch he lost on one of his many jaunts through time, of which he would say:
It is just that watch that I had lost in China in 16th to 17th centuries. I was running at the time from Chinese soldiers. A few months ago this watch was found in soldier’s tomb. I think, while I was running, he found and took it. Scientists were shocked.
It is actually striking how many of these self-professed time travelers bring forth what they say is evidence of their time bending adventures, such as photographs, videos, and others. Another man called simply Edward claimed in a video to have been part of a top secret time travel experiment in 2004, and that his travels had taken him far into the future to the year 5000, when much of the planet had been submerged due to global warming and vast wooden cities floated upon the seas of what once was. One of these cities doomed to a watery grave was apparently Los Angeles, California, a fact which Edward “proves” with a photo he produces from his pocket that he claims shows the submerged city but is actually pretty hard to make out. Edward explains of this photo to The Sun, “I was standing on a huge wooden platform. Not only me, houses, building of course all made from wood. And after, I realized it was the same city, Los Angeles, but under water.”

There is also the claim from a time traveler calling himself John, from the year 4,000. John says that he has been living in this present for the past 6 years, and that in his home time he is the president of a company that produces flying cars, and that their use of AI had resulted in a potential threat to humanity. According to John, in the year 4000 all birds have been wiped out in order to reduce the danger to the widely used flying cars, and that animals in general, even dogs and cats, are rare. It is due to concerns over the spread of AI that he says he has traveled back to the past, and as evidence of all of this he has shown a picture of what appear to be spider-like robots putting together a future vehicle called the “DR-18.”
Similarly, to John is a man identified as Alexander Smith, who says he is one of the first time travelers and appears in his video looking decidedly disheveled and harried. Smith then goes on to say that the world is in dire danger from AI running amok, and that global warming and floods are also a prominent threat. As proof of his claims he produces a photo from his crumpled suit and holds it up, saying that it is a picture of a city center form the year 2118. The photo looks very blurry and indistinct, and he assures us that this is merely an artifact from the time traveling process, not in any way because it could be a hoax. There is also the photo presented by an unidentified Greek man who in 2017 claimed that he had been recruited by a professor for time travel experiments. One of these experiments saw him launched to the year 10000, where there was a war raging between humans and robots. This man also shows a picture of this future landscape, but it is not clear what it is supposed to be of, and of course the low quality is blamed on the effects of time travel.

It’s not only photographs or video clips that have been offered up as evidence by time travelers either. One man calling himself W.D. Davis says he is from the year 2200, which he paints a colorful picture of indeed. According to him, in this future not only have all diseases been cured, but humans live on Mars and in great underwater cities, and that we peacefully coexist with aliens that can change shape at will. Davis, who claims to be 103 years old, said that in the future there are “miracle food pellets,” one of which can sustain an adult for a week, and he presented one of these pellets as proof. He says that in the future these pellets will be available to people all over the planet and have solved world hunger. Unfortunately, he would not allow it to be analyzed due to the paradoxical ramifications it could have, so I suppose we will just have to take his word for it.
Another anonymous time traveler is a woman who says she is from the year 3780, and that the use of the time technology is based on chips that these travelers have implanted into their arms. These devices supposedly do something to warp the space-time continuum, and she even produces one of the chips as evidence, which she calls a “skin.” It looks sort of like a big computer chip, and it is hard to tell if that is exactly what it is. The woman rambles for some time on the technology, but it is very hard to understand, and in the end it is hard to tell if any of it makes sense or not.
In the end it is hard to know how much truth any of these bizarre and quite frankly outlandish claims have. It is unfortunate that many such cases come to light on these YouTube videos, a place that is a magnet for those looking to get attention and pull hoaxes, yet there are plenty of people who give these claims serious thought, and they have become a hotbed for discussion and conspiracy theories. It is equally regrettable that the “evidence” that these supposed time travelers present in these cases is circumstantial at best, and clearly faked at worst. Yet is still gets a lot of play in discussions and debates on time travelers. Ultimately, if time travel really does exist, then these cases certainly don’t prove it in any way. It is up to the reader to make up their own mind.
While searching for UFOs near the sun, I found a long rocket like object shooting out of the sun during a solar explosion. The explosion was so big it rocked the SOHO satellite and jiggled it, but still caught this UFO during the burst. This UFO was really moving fast, but lucky for us the digital camera of the SOHO satellite caught it well.
If I am wrong, and this is burning solar material flying out from the sun, then its enough material to make a mini sun and would easily destroy the earth if it hit us. However solar material would not shoot off at light speed. This object was only caught once, traveled millions of miles across the SOHO satellite view area...and only got caught once...thats a freaking UFO.

Satellite images reveal a timeline of the ancient landmasses buried a mile (1.6 km) beneath the icy continent.
Scientists said the snaps shed new light on Antarctica, the 'least understood continent on Earth'.
They used data from the long-dead Gravity field and Ocean Circulation Explorer (GOCE), which plummeted into Earth after it ran out of fuel in 2013.
While the satellite has been out of action for five years, scientists are still pouring over reams of data it collected on Earth's gravitational pull.

'In East Antarctica, we see an exciting mosaic of geological features that reveal fundamental similarities and differences between the crust beneath Antarctica and other continents it was joined to until 160 million years ago.'
Scientists combined the GOCE readings with seismological data to create 3D maps of Earth's lithosphere.
The lithosphere is made up of the crust and the molten mantle beneath Earth's surface, and includes mountain ranges, ocean backs and rocky zones called cratons.

Cratons are the leftovers of ancient continents embedded in continents as we know them today.
The new readings shed light on the breakup of Gondwana, a long-gone 'supercontinent' that housed what is now Antarctica.
While the landmass split some 130 million years ago, the map shows that Antarctica and Australia remained linked as recently as 55 million years ago.
The study also revealed that West Antarctica has a thinner crust than East Antarctica, which has a 'family likeness to Australia and India'.

WHAT WAS ESA'S GOCE SATELLITE?
The European Space Agency's (ESA) Ocean Circulation Explorer (GOCE) probe tracked the pull of Earth's gravity.
It orbited our planet for over four years, from March 2009 to November 2013.
During that period it got within 140 miles of Earth's surface - unusually low for a satellite - to maximise the accuracy of its instruments.

Scientists are still scanning GOCE data today in a bid to understand more about processes occurring inside Earth.

Three weeks later, on 11 November, the satellite disintegrated in the lower atmosphere.
Scientists hope to use their findings to examine how Antarctica’s geology and continental structure is affecting the melting of its ice.
GOCE mission scientist Roger Haagmans said: 'It is exciting to see that direct use of the gravity gradients, which were measured for the first time ever with GOCE, leads to a fresh independent look inside Earth – even below a thick sheet of ice.

De Europese ruimtevaartorganisatie ESA heeft overblijfselen van verloren continenten ontdekt die al miljoenen jaren verborgen liggen onder Antarctica.
Satellietbeelden onthullen dat de continenten op 1,6 kilometer onder de Zuidpool liggen.
Wetenschappers hebben gezegd dat de beelden een nieuw licht werpen op Antarctica, het minst begrepen continent op aarde.
Revolutionaliseren
Ze hebben gegevens gebruikt die zijn verzameld door de Gravity field and Ocean Circulation Explorer (GOCE), die in 2013 neerstortte op aarde.
Onderzoekers gebruikten de data om de bewegingen van de tektonische platen onder Antarctica in kaart te brengen.

De ijsberg zou in november 2017 al van de Larsen C-ijsplaat zijn losgekomen.
Eind vorige maand trok een ijsberg nabij Antarctica de aandacht van heel wat mensen naar zich toe. En terecht, want deze ijsberg leek wel met een schaartje geknipt te zijn. De randen waren keurig recht en de hoeken behoorlijk haaks, waardoor de ijsberg bijna onnatuurlijk aandeed. In eerste instantie werd aangenomen dat de ijsberg vrij recent van de Larsen C-ijsplaat was losgekomen. Want, zo stelden onderzoekers, anders waren die strakke randen al lang ten prooi gevallen aan eroderende golven en wind.
Ouder Maar wetenschappers hebben zich nog eens in het leven van de rechthoekige ijsberg vastgebeten en ontdekt dat deze al veel ouder is dan gedacht. Satellietbeelden onthullen dat de ijsberg al in november 2017 – kort nadat de Larsen C-ijsplaat die enorme ijsberg kwijtraakte – afkalfde. Op dat moment was de ijsberg ongeveer vier kilometer lang.
In beweging De ijsberg begon richting het noorden te bewegen en werd daarbij continu bedreigd door botsingen met A-68 (de enorme ijsberg die Larsen C in juli van dat jaar was kwijtgeraakt) en andere, kleinere ijsbergen. Maar de ijsberg bleef ondanks al die dreigingen noordwaarts bewegen en moest uiteindelijk via een smalle passage – gelegen tussen het noordelijke tipje van A-68 en de zogenoemde Bawden Ice Rise – door zien te bewegen om open water te kunnen bereiken. En dat is het moment waarop de ijsberg zijn opmerkelijke rechthoekige vorm krijgt, aldus onderzoekers. Bawden Ice Rice is een verhoging in de rotsachtige zeebodem en A-68 is daar bijvoorbeeld al regelmatig tegenaan gebotst, waardoor stukken van de ijsberg zijn afgebroken. Het is op die plek dan ook een rommeltje (zie afbeelding hieronder, gemaakt op 14 oktober 2018). Er drijven allemaal kleinere ijsbergen rond die continu met elkaar in botsing komen. Ook de ijsberg die in november 2017 loskwam van Larsen C kwam duidelijk niet ongeschonden uit de strijd. Op de foto hieronder zie je dat deze oorspronkelijk qua vorm veel wegheeft van een trapezium. Maar een paar dagen later blijkt deze door de botsingen omgetoverd te zijn tot een rechthoekige ijsberg met steile randen en keurige hoeken.
De rechthoekige ijsberg heeft op deze foto nog een iets andere vorm. De ijsberg is hier ongeveer 900 meter breed en 1500 meter lang.
Inmiddels zijn we weer een paar weken verder en heeft de ijsberg het open water weten te bereiken. Onderzoekers verwachten dat de ijsberg spoedig geschiedenis zal zijn.

Het grootste exemplaar is naar schatting twee keer zo groot als een passagiersbus.
Dit weekend kunnen we een bezoekje verwachten van drie ruimtestenen, die relatief dicht langs de aarde zullen scheren. Het gaat om de objecten 2018 VX1, 2018 VA2 en 2018 VSI. Maar geen paniek; de objecten zullen geen gevaar vormen voor de aarde.
Ruimtestenen Het object 2018 VXI zal komende zondag het dichts in de buurt van de aarde komen. Zo zal deze op ongeveer één maanafstand (dat is de afstand tussen de aarde en de maan) langs de aarde scheren. De geschatte diameter van de ruimtesteen is tussen de 7.9 en 18 meter. Maar eerst zal morgen 2018 VA2 zijn scheervlucht maken. Dit object zal ons op ongeveer 1.87 maanafstanden naderen. Het grootste is ruimtesteen 2018 VSI. Zo wordt de diameter van deze ruimtesteen geschat tussen de 13 en 28 meter. Echter blijft deze ook het verst van de aarde uit de buurt; zo zal hij ons op 3.62 maanafstanden passeren.
MAATREGELEN
Onderzoekers zijn op zoek naar allerlei manieren de aarde te beschermen tegen potentieel gevaarlijke ruimtestenen. En daarbij komen de meest bizarre methoden voorbij. Zo kunnen we planetoïden een duwtje geven, er juist aan trekken, opblazen of laseren. Een andere voorgestelde methode is om een planetoïde te bekogelen met witte verf. Dat bekogelen zou namelijk al een geringe invloed hebben op de baan van de planetoïde. De witte verf zou zorgen dat de planetoïde meer zonlicht reflecteert. Elk lichtdeeltje dat vervolgens wordt weerkaatst, oefent kracht uit die de planetoïde wegduwt van de zon.
Tsjeljabinsk-meteoriet Zoals gezegd vormen de ruimtestenen geen gevaar voor de aarde, omdat ze toch nog ver van onze planeet vandaan blijven. Komen planetoïden echter dichterbij de aarde in de buurt en zijn ze daarnaast ook nog eens groot van stuk, dan kunnen dit soort ruimtestenen wel voor wat opschudding zorgen. Dat bewees de Tsjeljabinsk-meteoriet, die in 2013 de Russische stad Tsjeljabinsk op deed schrikken. Deze ruimtesteen was zo’n 17 meter groot en ontplofte op 20 kilometer hoogte in de atmosfeer. Bij die explosie kwam zo’n 30 keer meer energie vrij dan tijdens de kernaanval op Hiroshima. De schokgolf zorgde ervoor dat ramen van honderden gebouwen uiteenspatten. Bijna 1500 mensen raakten daarbij gewond.
Klein risico Toch is de kans klein dat zoiets nog eens gebeurt. Zo denken astronomen dat dit slechts enkele keren per eeuw voorkomt. Daarbij is het risico dat het dicht bij een dichtbevolkte stad zoals Tsjeljabinsk gebeurt, nog kleiner. Naar schatting vindt dat ongeveer 1 keer in de 10.000 jaar plaats. Toch is het niet helemaal uit te sluiten dat er brokstukken vanuit de ruimte op ramkoers komen te liggen met de aarde.
Voorbereiden Daarom speuren wetenschappers met telescopen continu de hemel af op zoek naar onbekende planetoïden. En dat werpt zijn vruchten af. In een paar jaar tijd zijn zo 90% van alle aardscheerders groter dan 1 kilometer opgespoord. Vervolgens proberen astronomen om potentiële gevaarlijke ruimtestenen te detecteren. Hoe eerder we die opsporen, hoe beter. Ondertussen wordt er ook aan methoden gewerkt om de aarde weerbaarder te maken tegen dergelijke aardscheerders.
Een voorbeeld daarvan is de DART-missie. Dit ruimtevaartuig heeft een heel speciaal doel; zo gaat hij proberen om de baan van planetoïde Didymos te veranderen. Deze ruimtesteen bestaat uit twee delen, waarvan Didymos A zo’n 2,5 kilometer groot is en Didymos B ongeveer 160 meter. Het ruimtevaartuig zal vervolgens op de kleinere planetoïde inslaan met 6 km/sec. Van deze missie kunnen we veel leren. Zo is de kennis van groot belang mochten we ooit in een situatie terecht komen dat we objecten van de aarde moeten afbuigen.
Heeft een buitenaards ruimteschip ons zonnestelsel bezocht? Professoren van de Harvard universiteit sluit dit niet uit. Het zou verklaren waarom de asteroïde ‘Oumuamua zich nogal vreemd gedroeg.
‘Oumuamua werd in oktober 2017 ontdekt en was al snel wereldnieuws. De baan van het object – dat toen nog C2017U1 werd genoemd – wees er namelijk sterk op dat de ruimtesteen afkomstig was uit een ander zonnestelsel. Het is mogelijk het eerste interstellaire object dat is aangetroffen in ons zonnestelsel. Anders gezegd: ‘Oumuamua is bij een andere ster dan de zon ontstaan. Dat is natuurlijk al bizar. Als we de zon even vergeten, dan de eerstvolgende ster vier lichtjaar van de aarde verwijderd. Het object heeft dus zeker tientallen biljoenen kilometers afgelegd (en mogelijk nog wel veel meer)…
Vliegende sigaar Het object is nogal vreemd. Zo lijkt ‘Oumuamua op een enorme, vliegende sigaar. Deze kosmische sigaar is 400 meter lang en 40 meter breed. Daarmee wijkt de asteroïde qua vorm sterk af van andere hemellichamen in ons zonnestelsel. Onderzoekers kunnen niet verklaren hoe een object met een ratio van 1:10 ontstaat.
Lichtzeil? Maar er is meer. Wetenschappers van het Harvard Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics vinden het vreemd dat het object in januari 2018 plotseling versnelde. “Mogelijk is ‘Oumuamua een soort lichtzeil, dat zweeft in de interstellaire ruimte”, schrijft onderzoeker Abraham Loeb in een paper dat is ingediend in het wetenschappelijke vakblad Astrophysical Journal Letters. “Mogelijk wordt het object versneld door zonnestraling.”
Het is geen vreemde gedachte. “Wij mensen maken al soortgelijke lichtzeilen met vergelijkbare afmetingen”, vervolgt Loeb. “Denk maar aan het IKAROS-project en Starshot Initiative. De lichtzeil-technologie wordt misschien vaak gebruikt (door aliens, red.) als vrachttransport tussen sterren of tussen planeten.”
IKAROS was een experimenteel ruimtevaartuig van de Japanse ruimtevaartorganisatie JAXA. Dit ruimtevaartuig werd in mei 2010 gelanceerd en naar de planeet Venus gestuurd. Daarmee demonstreerde de Japanse ruimtevaartorganisatie dat de zonnezeil-technologie werkt in de interplanetaire ruimte.
Niet langer actief ‘Oumuamua heeft een opvallend hoge snelheid en een bijzondere baan. Zo tuimelt de sigaar ongecontroleerd om zijn as. De wetenschappers vermoeden daarom dat ‘Oumumua niet langer actief is.
Geen komeet Als ‘Oumuamua inderdaad ooit door aliens is gebouwd, dan verklaart dit waarom het object zo vreemd is. Loeb: “Zo reflecteert ‘Oumuamua opvallend veel licht, heeft het geen komeetachtige staart en zendt het object weinig warmtestraling uit.” Als een komeet de zon nadert, dan warmt de zon het oppervlak van de komeet op en komen er gassen vrij. Hierdoor kan een komeet versnellen. Aangezien er bij ‘Oumuamua geen sprake was van ontgassing, verklaart dit niet waarom de interstellaire reiziger plotseling versnelde.
En nu? Eigenlijk ontstaan er steeds meer vragen, maar blijven deze vragen onbeantwoord. Auteurs Shmuel Bialy en Abraham Loeb concluderen in het paper dat het nu te laat is om ‘Oumuamua te fotograferen of te achtervolgen met raketten. De mannen hopen dat er in de toekomst vaker soortgelijke objecten langs de zon reizen, die wél bestudeerd kunnen worden. Een andere mogelijkheid is dat er duizenden inactieve ruimteschepen gevangen zitten in het zonnestelsel door zwaartekrachtinteracties met Jupiter en de zon. Met de toekomstige Large Synoptic Survey Telescope kunnen deze objecten wellicht worden gespot.
Scientists analyzed the ancient DNA of individuals who lived in Central and South America up to 10,000 years ago and found that these regions were settled by at least three waves of migration. The studies paint a rich and diverse history of the Americas, suggesting that the people who formed these migratory waves branched out of a single population that crossed the Bering Strait into North America about 15,000 years ago.
“Our work multiplied the number of ancient genomes available from these areas by about 20, giving us a much more comprehensive picture of indigenous history in the Americas,” co-senior author David Reich, a geneticist at Harvard Medical School and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, said in a statement. “This broader dataset reveals a common origin of North, Central, and South Americans as well as two previously unknown genetic exchanges between North and South America.”
The DNA collected from 49 individuals who lived in Belize, Brazil, the Central Andes, and southern South America shows that they all originate from the same ancestral population that colonized North America. In and of itself, this fact is not particularly remarkable because scientists have always known that Central and South America were peopled by a migration that moved southward. However, what was truly surprising about the findings of three new ancient DNA studies, all published this week (Cell, Science, Science Advances), was that there were multiple distinct migratory movements — some that mixed, others that formed new lineages.
Archaeologists believe that the Clovis people were the first to pass through the land bridge between Siberia and Alaska, which is now underwater, settling in the lower 48 states some 13,000 years ago. The Clovis culture was named after flint spearheads found in the 1930s at a site in Clovis, New Mexico. These mammoth-hunting people are considered to be the ancestors of most of the indigenous cultures of the Americas. Now, the new genomic analysis has yielded fresh insights into how Clovis people may have spread across the Americas.
Researchers compared the genome of a Clovis toddler who lived in Montana about 12,700 years ago to the earliest genome analyzed from South and Central America dating to between 9,000 and 11,000 years ago. The analysis revealed a common ancestry between the remains found in Montana and Lagoa Santa in Brazil, which suggests that the Clovis made a major impact much further south. Previously, anthropologists believed that the people at Lagoa Santa originated from a separate migration from Asia.
“We weren’t expecting to find a relation to people associated with the Clovis culture in South America,” says co-first author Nathan Nakatsuka from Harvard. “But it seems the expansion of the Clovis-associated lineage extended to parts of Central and South America.”
From around 9,000 years ago, however, the Clovis culture-associated ancestry completely disappeared in Peru. We don’t know what was the cause of such a dramatic large-scale population replacement but what seems certain is that the region was populated by a separate wave of migration, which showed remarkable continuity compared to Eurasia and Africa.
“There is remarkable continuity between earlier and later skeletons with South Americans today,” said Cosimo Posth, an archaeogeneticist from the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Human History. “For example, modern-day Quechua and Aymara from the Central Andes can trace their ancestry back to the ancient people of the Cuncaicha site from 9,000 years ago onwards. This is a longer-standing continuity than you see in other continents.”
The big question right now is why the branching occurred so fast. What seems certain is that the narrative of humanity’s distribution across the Americas is far more complex than meets the eye.
“We’re very enthusiastic about the prospects for a much richer understanding of American population history, but this is still a vast region full of geographic and chronological holes,” says Reich. “We’d like to collect more genetic material from earlier and later sites and from more countries, such as Colombia, Venezuela, and other parts of Brazil. We also want to examine the evolution of genetic traits over time.”
The National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) released this new image on November 6, 2018. It’s a composite image of a giant elliptical galaxy – surrounded by a sprawling cluster of other galaxies – known as Abell 2597. The yellow parts of the image come from observations made by the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) and show a relatively cold gas. The red is data from ESO’s Very Large Telescope (VLT) showing hot hydrogen gas in the same region. The purple shows extended hot, ionized gas as imaged by Chandra X-ray Observatory.
This vast structure is a billion light-years from Earth. It’s one of our universe’s most massive structures. At the core of Abell 2597, NRAO said:
… a supermassive black hole is powering the cosmic equivalent of a monumental fountain, drawing in vast stores of cold molecular gas and spraying them back out again in an ongoing cycle.
Astronomers have long theorized that fountains such as this continually recirculate a galaxy’s star-forming fuel. But new data from ALMA – based on observations of Abell 2597 – show the first clear and compelling evidence for the simultaneous infalling and outflow of gas driven by a supermassive black hole. The researchers reportedtheir observations in the peer-reviewedAstrophysical Journal.

The supermassive black hole at the center of this giant galaxy acts like a mechanical ‘pump’ in a water fountain. This is one of the first systems in which we find clear evidence for both cold molecular gas inflow toward the black hole and outflow or uplift from the jets that the black hole launches.
According to the researchers, this entire system operates via a self-regulating feedback loop. The infalling material provides power for the fountain as it “drains” toward the central black hole, like water entering the pump of a fountain. This infalling gas then causes the black hole to ignite with activity, launching high-velocity jets of super-heated material that shoot out of the galaxy. As it travels, this material pushes out clumps and streamers of gas into the galaxy’s expansive halo, where it eventually rains back in on the black hole, triggering the entire process anew.
In total, about three billion solar masses of molecular gas is part of this fountain, forming a filamentary nebula that spans the innermost 100,000 light-years of the galaxy.

In an earlier study by the same authors published in the journal Nature, the researchers were able to verify the interconnection between the black hole and the galactic fountain by observing the region across a range of wavelengths, or portions of the spectrum. By studying the location and motion of molecules of carbon monoxide (CO) with ALMA, which shine brightly in millimeter-wavelength light, the researchers could measure the motion of the gas as it falls in toward the black hole.
Earlier data from the Multi-Unit Spectroscopic Explorer (MUSE) on ESO’s Very Large Telescope (VLT) revealed warm, ionized gas being expelled from the galaxy – essentially the plume of the fountain. The new ALMA observations found clumps of cold, molecular gas in precisely the same locations as the warm gas seen in the earlier observations. Tremblay commented:
The unique aspect here is a very detailed coupled analysis of the source using data from ALMA and the MUSE instrument. The two facilities make for an incredibly powerful combination. ALMA revealed the distribution and motions of the cold molecular gas clouds, and MUSE did the same for the warm ionized gas.
The ALMA and MUSE data were combined with a new, ultra-deep observation of the cluster by NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory, revealing the hot phase of this fountain in exquisite detail, noted the researchers.
The observations also very convincingly support the hypothesis that the warm ionized and cold molecular nebulas are one and the same, with the warm ionized gas merely being the “shell” around the cold molecular cores that churn within this galaxy-scale fountain.
This multiwavelength approach offers an uncommonly complete picture of this system. Tremblay noted:
It’s like observing the rain cloud, rain, and puddle all at the same time.
While this is just one observation of one galaxy, the astronomers speculate that they may be observing a process that is common in galaxies and fundamental to their evolution.

Bottom line: At the core of the giant elliptical galaxy Abell 2597, a supermassive black hole is powering the cosmic equivalent of a gargantuan, ongoing fountain.

Dan Burisch, a doctorate in microbiology and former worker of the secret military forces of the United States, details great puzzling information about extraterrestrials, the Orion Cube, time machines, secret government plans and human extinction.
Dan Burisch, born in California in 1964, studied microbiology and psychology at the University of Las Vegas, Nevada. He graduated in 1986 and did a Ph.D. in microbiology in 1989 in the state of New York. A sports fan since childhood, he played basketball. But his true passion was science and five years later he was given his first microscope, after which he later became the youngest member of the microbiology society of Los Angeles.
In 1986 he received an unexpected visit at the University of Las Vegas, the so-called “secret” government of the United States. Two of those men, in military uniform, offered to work on a top-secret project where they could put their talent to work at a maximum level. In 1987 he began working in a Nevada State Government office related to prison parole. In 1989 he began receiving tissue samples. Burisch examined them in another place and sent the report to the place of origin of the same. In 1989 he worked on a secret project and also on the so-called “Sharp Storm”. But in 1994 he was taken to an underground place called “Century IV” which is part of Area 51, where he started working on the “Aquarium” project.
There he learned that the military were in possession of ships and extraterrestrial beings. In one department there was information about beings called Orions, beings from the star system Z Reticuli. Also a copy of the agreement made by President Eisenhower, beings called P-50 and the so-called Orions. In a place called The Bay of Galileo, Burisch could see different types of spacecraft. One of them was the ship that Bob Lassar (a former Nasa worker who made Area 51 known in the eighties). Another of the ships he saw was the one that crashed in Roswell in 1947.
According to Burisch, we have a misguided concept of aliens. It clarifies that aliens and extraterrestrials are not the same. But aliens are beings that come from other planets, and that extraterrestrials are human in the future and that they travel in time to solve certain problems, but they are from the earth, because these are actually the evolution of the human being during thousands of years.
They are distinguished into four groups. They are classified with the letter P, which means present time and the years that lead us in the future. For example, Roswell’s are P-24. That is, present time plus 24 thousand years in the future. The others are known as: J ROD P-45, J ROD P-52 and P-54. He says that these JROD suffer from a very painful illness and he participated in this project to try to find a cure. He claimed to have taken blood samples a female of these beings and that for two years worked on this project studying the being.
He assures that they came to establish a friendly relationship and that in one of the face-to-face meetings, this one skipped the protocol pouncing on him. He telepathically transmitted a large amount of information in which he could know that two thirds of humanity died in a nuclear catastrophe. A part of the people hid underground to survive and others did it on the surface. 24 thousand years later the most advanced beings on earth could travel in time, which is why they traveled to Roswell in 1947. Roswell’s ship was really a time machine. They did not come from another planet but from Earth.
According to Colonel Philip J. Corso (1914 – 1997) who wrote the book “The day after Roswell”, beings were made to travel in spacetime. They had two brains, one of them to control the ships. And they did not reproduce. He also affirmed that the ship was the key to technological progress.
Other groups “survivors” to the extinction, evolved in the Moon, Mars and finally in Orion, where the P-52 come from, or the Orions, which, in spite of being Terrestrials, also colonized these other places. The P-45 would be the most Machiavellian, thirsty for nuclear catharsis to pass in our future in order to justify its existence. These are responsible for the majority of abductions. They lack emotional empathy.
Eisenhower met with these extraterrestrial groups in order to avoid the obvious nuclear catastrophe. In this meeting diplomatic discussions between civilizations were made and an agreement was adopted to abduct human beings in order to study them, provided they did not suffer or remember anything of what happened. The Orions gave President Eisenhower a cube about eight centimeters wide by another eight centimeters long, capable of predicting the future. It was passed between rich and powerful to be able to choose well in their lives.
Burisch worked directly under the orders of “Majestic 12”. One of his most important statements are those related to the “StarGates”. They are devices made in the earth, but with extraterrestrial technology. According to him, the information on how to make them is in the Sumerias tables. They were used to communicate with other extra-planetary civilizations. With them you could access a wormhole. Next to this enormous apparatus, there was a platform that allowed to throw the object to the wormhole to travel to other stars, teleporting people or materials from one place to another instantly.
But Burisch says it is not very reliable and that he saw a person die during one of the experiments. This device is also known as “Looking Glass” and was used to see probabilities of future events. As they saw, the catastrophe would happen because of these Stargates. According to the doctor, there are fifty Stargates on earth. WETENSCHAP Een Amerikaanse sonde heeft zijn eerste vlucht langs de zon goed doorstaan. De systemen aan boord van de Parker Solar Probe hebben de extreme hitte en straling overleefd en werken zoals het moet, zegt de Amerikaanse ruimtevaartorganisatie NASA.
De Parker Solar Probe werd gelanceerd in augustus en gaat de komende zeven jaar ovale banen rond de zon draaien. De eerste duikvlucht begon vorige week, en afgelopen maandag kwam de Parker tot op 24 miljoen kilometer van de zon. Nog nooit kwam een sonde zo dicht bij onze ster.
De Parker haalde daarbij een recordsnelheid van ruim 343.000 kilometer per uur. Beide records worden later nog verbeterd, want in 2024 haalt de Parker een snelheid van ruim 692.000 kilometer per uur en nadert hij tot op 6 miljoen kilometer van de zon.

De sonde vliegt nu weg van de zon, en voert in april zijn tweede duikvlucht uit. Tijdens de duikvlucht maandag werd de Parker blootgesteld aan temperaturen van meer dan 400 graden Celsius. Dat loopt op tot bijna 1.400 graden bij volgende duikvluchten. Door koeling blijven de meetinstrumenten aan boord echter op kamertemperatuur.
De Parker doet onder meer onderzoek naar de zonnewind, de stroom geladen deeltjes die de zon constant afvuurt. Het concept daarvan werd bedacht door de nu 91-jarige wetenschapper Eugene N. Parker, naar wie de sonde is vernoemd.

Scientists at the Cern nuclear physics lab near Geneva are investigating whether a bizarre and unexpected new particle popped into existence during experiments at the Large Hadron Collider.
Researchers on the machine’s multipurpose Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) detector have spotted curious bumps in their data that may be the calling card of an unknown particle that has more than twice the mass of a carbon atom.
The prospect of such a mysterious particle has baffled physicists as much as it has excited them. At the moment, none of their favoured theories of realityinclude the particle, though many theorists are now hard at work on models that do.
“I’d say theorists are excited and experimentalists are very sceptical,” said Alexandre Nikitenko, a theorist on the CMS team who worked on the data. “As a physicist I must be very critical, but as the author of this analysis I must have some optimism too.”
Senior scientists at the lab have scheduled a talk this Thursday at which Nikitenko and his colleague Yotam Soreq will discuss the work. They will describe how they spotted the bumps in CMS data while searching for evidence of a lighter cousin of the Higgs boson, the elusive particle that was discovered at the LHC in 2012.
The Large Hadron Collider creates particles by smashing subatomic protons into one another at close to the speed of light. When the protons meet, the energy in the collision is converted into mass, and so particles, in line with Einstein’s equation, E=mc2.
Many particles created in the LHC are highly unstable and immediately decay into lighter, more stable particles such as photons and electrons. It is by looking for an excess of these particles, apparent as a bump in the data, that physicists tend to find new particles. For example, one way the Higgs boson betrayed its existence was through the unusually high number of photons recorded in collisions in which the particle was made.
But particle physics is no easy pursuit. To the endless frustration of its practitioners, bumps in data produced by nothing more than statistical fluctuations pop up all the time. The best way to distinguish between these and Nobel prize-winning discoveries is to analyse more and more data: statistical flukes always vanish with time.
In two separate analyses, the CMS team found data that pointed to a build-up of muons, or heavy electrons, in their detector. If real, the data indicates a new particle with a mass of 28GeV or 1 billion electron volts, slightly less than a quarter of the mass of a Higgs boson. Whatever it is, it is not the particle Nikitenko and his colleagues were looking for.
To complicate matters further, the bumps were more pronounced in the LHC’s low energy collisions than in more energetic collisions the machine performed after an upgrade. That could be explained, said Nikitenko, if more “background” particles are produced at higher energies that then obscure the signal.
Because the analysis is so time-consuming, it could take the CMS team another year to confirm or rule out the existence of a new particle. But Karl Jakobs, spokesperson for the Cern team that works on Atlas, the LHC’s other multipurpose detector, said it was checking its own data for signs of the proposed particle. “We are working on a similar analysis of the Atlas data, however I cannot yet give you a timeline when the results will become public,” he said.
For Atlas to cross-check the result was “crucial”, Nikitenko said. “If it is confirmed by Atlas it will be the real thing. It will be really something terribly new.”
One independent study has already reported potential evidence for the particle. Arno Heister, a former member of the CMS team who knew about the bumps in the data, analysed older results collected by Aleph, a detector on Cern’s previous particle accelerator known as the Large Electron-Positron Collider (LEP). He found a similar bump at 30GeV. “This excess, if real, is something very unexpected,” he told the Guardian.
Georg Weiglein, a theorist on the German Electron-Synchrotron machine (DESY) said it will be hard to come up with a model that has a particle like the one the CMS bump calls for. “This does not exclude the possibility that such a signal could actually exist. On the contrary, it would be even more exciting if a signal were observed that does not seem to fit into our present models,” he said. “Further experimental information is eagerly awaited.”
Michelangelo Mangano, a researcher at Cern, said: “Of course theorists are always happy when some anomaly shows up in the data. And I am confident many colleagues have started looking into this. However it is a bit early to get excited.” “Given that Atlas has yet to release their analysis, and given that much more data is on tape even for CMS, it is clear that the effect will soon be confirmed or diluted away,” he said.

Een mysterieus deeltje zorgt voor opwinding bij wetenschappers van het Europees Centrum voor Kernonderzoek (CERN) in Zwitserland. Zij doen momenteel onderzoek naar een onverwacht ‘spookdeeltje’.
De wetenschappers zeggen dat het onbekende deeltje mogelijk is verschenen tijdens experimenten met de Large Hadron Collider (LHC).
Tijdens het bestuderen van de gegevens stuitten ze op onregelmatigheden. Zo vonden ze aanwijzingen voor een deeltje dat meer dan twee keer zo zwaar is als een koolstofatoom.
Geen enkele theorie
Er zou op dit moment geen enkele theorie zijn die dit mysterieuze deeltje kan verklaren.
“We sluiten niet uit dat een dergelijke signaal echt kan bestaan,” zei Georg Weiglein van het Duitse nationale laboratorium voor deeltjesfysica DESY.
“Sterker nog: het zou nog spannender zijn als we een signaal zouden waarnemen dat niet lijkt te passen in onze huidige modellen,” voegde hij toe.
Iets revolutionairs
Het is dus goed mogelijk dat het hier gaat om een nieuwe ontdekking. We kunnen hier te maken hebben met iets revolutionairs, denken wetenschappers.
Karl Jakobs, woordvoerder van het onderzoeksteam van CERN, zei dat de gegevens van verschillende experimenten nu met elkaar worden vergeleken om te speuren naar tekenen van het deeltje.
“Ik kan alleen niet zeggen wanneer de resultaten naar buiten worden gebracht,” zei hij.

“This is about creating a long-term base, naturally, not habitable, but visited. But basically it is the transition to robotic systems, to avatars that will solve tasks on the surface of the moon.”
Dmitry Rogozin, Director General of Roscosmos, revealed his futuristic-yet-feasible plans this week through the state-run news agency RIA Novosti. He likened them to NASA’s vision and subsequent success in the 1960s and 1970s to put the first human on the Moon, with a dig that his is “more ambitious and responsible.” “Responsible” is easier to achieve from Day 1 – avatars do not create waste that must be either stored for transport or disposed of in a way that doesn’t sully the environment.
While what happens on the lunar surface may be ambitious, getting there will still rely on the current Angara carrier rocket and Soyuz spacecraft, allowing Russia’s efforts for new development to focus solely on the robotic work and exploration forces that will ride them to the Moon. That includes heavy use of 3D printing to lessen the load sent with them, including the possible use of lunar soil as a raw material for the 3D printers.
“Plus, there will be an opportunity, as they say at the Academy of Sciences, to use helium-3 as the basis for rocket fuel.”
The Russian Academy of Sciences agrees with NASA and the ESA in the idea that helium-3 – the non-radioactive isotope of helium constantly being brought to the Moon by solar wind – can and should be mined and used as a safe nuclear fuel for a fusion reactor, with the added benefit that its spent fuel is not radioactive.
All of this sounds so doable right now. When will we see Russia take the lead in making science imitate science fiction?
“The first landing of the Russian cosmonaut is scheduled for 2030.”
That whooshing sound is not from balloons but from hopes deflating and the reality setting in that we’re still dealing with antiquated technology, limited budgets, massive bureaucracies and a public (at least in the U.S.) that is slowly losing its faith and trust is science.

The first part of this article told (in his own words) the strange saga of a man named Ray Boeche. Part-One started as follows: “My previous article was on the subjects of (A) how the UFO phenomenon might be a threat to our physical and mental health; and (B) why the Men in Black might not be bad guys, after all. Rather, they just might actually be good guys trying to warn us of the hazards that the same phenomenon might pose. I thought I would follow-up that article with one which graphically demonstrates the dangers that UFO entities and their powers might pose. We have to go way back to November 25, 1991. On that date, Ray Boeche – a priest and a former State-Director with MUFON (the Mutual UFO Network) – had a very strange meeting at Lincoln, Nebraska’s Cornhusker Hotel. It was a meeting with a couple of guys who worked on a highly classified program within the U.S. Department of Defense. Now, with that said, I’ll hand the story over to Ray himself, who I extensively interviewed for my Final Events book.”
And here, in Part-Two, are Ray’s words on what was undoubtedly the most disturbing – and even deadly – part of the story. Why so? Because it all ended in three strange and violent deaths. Back to Ray: “They showed me a dozen photos of three different people – four photos of each person, who had apparently been killed by these experiments. These were all postmortem photographs, taken in-situ, after the experiments. The areas shown in all of the photographs were like a dentist’s chair or a barber’s chairs; and the bodies were still in those positions, sitting in the chairs. Still there, with EEG and EKG leads coming off of them; and I believe that one had leads to their head. They were all wired.
“It was a very clinical setting, and there was no indication of who they were. It was a very disturbing sort of thing. And I’m thinking in the back of my mind: if these are real, who would they have gotten for these experiments? Were they volunteers? Were they some sort of prisoner? I have no idea. Were they American? Were they foreign? There was no way to tell.” Ray told me that the three deaths were caused by a “remotely induced” fatal heart attack; a “remotely transmitted head trauma” and “remotely controlled suffocation. The deaths and heart attacks were allowed to happen because it served the NHE’s goals: the deception that they were aliens trying to help us and give us this advanced technology.”
As for why Ray was contacted, he told me: “The impression was that it was to test the waters; that’s what they told me. They had read some of my stuff; and they knew that I’d become a pastor and that I had a Christian viewpoint from which I could view these things. And they were concerned morally and ethically that they had allowed themselves to be duped into doing this research; and it had taken such a turn. My concern was always that: why come to me? Who am I? I can’t do anything for you. I’m happy to evaluate it as best I can; but if you have this concern why not go to a Christian leader with a lot more clout and public visibility than I’ve got? But that was their reason: they were aware of the research I had done on a lot of things; that I could approach it from a Christian viewpoint; and that it was more of a moral dilemma for them. They wanted the information out there. But, to me, I have to think: is any of this accurate? On one hand, is this a way to throw disinformation out? But, on the other hand, I think that even if they wanted to just spread disinformation, they could have done it with someone a lot more influential than me.
“As a pastor and someone who’s trained as a theologian, I can’t come to any other conclusion than there is some sort of spiritual deception going on here. In so many of these kinds of alien contacts, they make a denial of Christianity: anytime the spiritual issues are addressed, there is always some sort of denial of the validity of Christianity, and the validity of The Bible. And, I find it interesting that these percipients are told that Jesus was a great guy; but you just misunderstood him. They say: he wasn’t really God’s son. You just don’t quite get it. But you never hear them say that about Buddha, or Krishna, or Mohamed. It always seems to come down to some sort of denial of Christianity. I mean the percipients of contactees, abductees and the NHE’s engage them in spiritual discussions – but it’s always one-sided. I would have a lot less suspicion for the potential of the demonic nature of these things if they were to say: ‘You guys are all screwed up, that all of your spiritual leaders had some good ideas; but none of them really got it. It’s a big mess.’ But it seems to be so specifically pointed at the Judeo-Christian tradition. It certainly seems to me like it’s the two genuine forces squaring up against each other.
“I think that some people have a sharper sense of sight; some have a sharper sense of hearing, or touch. I think there are people who have an ability to somehow have some sense stimulated and be aware of something that the majority of people aren’t. These are people just better gifted in some way than others. This is a thorny thing to dissect because there are definitely demonic influences generally. They do want to deceive us. I’m hesitant to paint with too broad a brush and say that everything can be attributed to them. I think there are too many theologians, Christians, who want to see a demon behind every rock. But I think the demonic world is real. But one of its principle goals is to deceive us. Does that negate the existence of some sort of extraterrestrial intelligence? I don’t think so. I think, though, that the extraterrestrial hypothesis is too simple an explanation. I have come into contact with too many cases that go so far beyond that; where there are so many strange effects that are left in the lives of the percipients that to me seem to say this is E.T. is too simplistic for so many of these things.
Ray’s final words: “A valid way to distract people is the two camps: the E.T. believers and the skeptics, while the real story is buried. The more distractions you can make, the easier it is to keep people from hitting on what’s actually important. That’s what so confusing about the whole thing. I’ve been involved in this since 1965 and this is the most bizarre stuff I’ve ever run across. I didn’t know what to make of it then and I don’t know what to make of it now.”
