Het is een lief, aanhankelijk hondje, dat zich op een week snel aan ons heeft aangepast. Ze is heel vinnig en nieuwsgierig, een heel ander hondje dan Noleke.

Een eerder benoemde kolibrie blijkt nu een lijster te zijn…
Tussen 400 en 1000 jaar voor Christus tekenden mensen uit de pre-inca beschaving reusachtige lijnen, figuren en tekeningen van dieren en planten op de grond: de zogenoemde Nazcalijnen. De lijnen en geogliefen zijn te vinden op de woestijnvlaktes in het zuiden van Peru. Waarom deze afbeeldingen in het zand werden gezet, is tot op de dag van vandaag een raadsel. Maar nu doen onderzoekers in een nieuwe studie een poging om het antwoord dichterbij te brengen.
Meer over de Nazcalijnen In het woestijnzand van de hoogvlakte van Peru zijn tientallen figuren van dieren, honderden geometrische vormen en duizenden lijnen terug te vinden. Vermoedelijk zijn deze zo’n 2000 jaar geleden aangebracht door Nazca- en Paraca-indianen. De Nazcalijnen zijn wereldberoemd en staan bovendien op de Werelderfgoedlijst. De lijnen en figuren beslaan een gebied met een oppervlakte van ongeveer 450 vierkante kilometer. De meeste van deze tekeningen zijn zo groot, dat ze het beste te zien zijn vanuit de lucht.
Mysterie Onder de vele figuren die in het zand zijn getekend, bevinden zich ook veel vogels. En daar waren de onderzoekers het meest in geïnteresseerd. Het begrijpen wat deze vogels precies voorstellen is namelijk essentieel om het mysterie van de Nazcalijnen te ontrafelen. Uiteindelijk hopen onderzoekers antwoord te krijgen op die ene vraag: waarom werden de figuren getekend?
Vogels In de studie namen de onderzoekers zestien geogliefen van vogels onder de loep. “Tot nu toe zijn deze tekeningen geïdentificeerd op basis van algemene indrukken of een paar morfologische eigenschappen in elk figuur,” zegt onderzoeker Masaki Eda. Maar dat is volgens de onderzoeker toch echt te gering. “Wij hebben de vormen en maten van de snavels, koppen, halzen, lichamen, vleugels, staarten en voeten vergeleken met die van moderne vogels in Peru.”
Vanwege de lange en dunne snavel, korte benen, drie tenen in dezelfde richting en de lange staart met een langwerpig middengedeelte, wordt de eerder benoemde kolibrie opnieuw geclassificeerd als een lijster.

Herzien Op die manier lukte het de onderzoekers om een beter beeld te krijgen van de vogels en een aantal ervan opnieuw te classificeren. Zo is een eerder geïdentificeerde kolibrie nu als lijster aangemerkt en een voorheen onbekende vogel benoemd tot pelikaan. Helaas lukte het niet om alle vogels onder te brengen. Zo blijkt dat tekeningen van mogelijke condors of flamingo’s niet voldoen aan de essentiële kenmerken. Maar de tekeningen verschilden teveel met moderne Peruaanse vogels om ze een nieuwe naam te geven.
Aanwijzing Hoewel de opnieuw geïdentificeerde vogels wel in Peru voorkomen, leven ze niet op de plekken waar de tekeningen zijn gemaakt. Zo worden lijsters bijvoorbeeld aangetroffen in bossen op de oostelijke hellingen van de Andes en in het noorden bij de grens met Ecuador, en leven Pelikanen langs de kust. De vraag is dus of de mensen die de figuren hebben getekend zich daadwerkelijk door echte vogels hebben laten inspireren. “Het zou mogelijk zijn dat de mensen die de tekeningen hebben gemaakt tijdens het verzamelen van voedsel aan de kust, pelikanen hebben gezien,” betoogt Eda. “Onze bevindingen tonen aan dat ze exotische vogels hebben afgebeeld, geen lokale vogels. En dit kan een aanwijzing zijn waarom ze de tekeningen maakten.”
Op dit moment blijft het mysterie dus nog onopgelost. Maar wellicht komen we stapje voor stapje dichterbij. Zo zijn soortgelijke vogels teruggevonden op aardewerk en ook in ruïnes van Naszca zijn vogelresten opgegraven. Deze vondsten zouden kunnen helpen bij het identificeren van meer geogliefen waar vogels op staan afgebeeld.
De Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter heeft een nogal opvallende foto afgeleverd. Zo kwam de ruimtesonde met onderstaande afbeelding van het oppervlak van Mars op de proppen. En inderdaad, je hebt er niet eens zo heel veel verbeelding voor nodig om er het logo van Starfleet uit Star Trek in te herkennen! Volgens NASA is het echter puur toeval.
Duinen De merkwaardige vorm dook op in het zuidoosten van de Hellas Planitia op de rode planeet. Volgens onderzoekers zou het ontstaan zijn door een wisselwerking tussen duinen, lava en zand. Zo waren er lang geleden halvemaanvormige duinen, die door het gebied bewogen. Een eruptie zorgde voor lava dat langs – maar niet over – de duinen stroomde. Nadat de lava stolde, staken de duinen er bovenuit als eilandjes. Uiteindelijk werd het zand door de wind weggeblazen, waardoor de bijzondere afdrukken in de lavavlakte zijn achtergebleven.
NASA Maar voor wie fan is van Star Trek, is de echte reden voor de opvallende duin-formatie natuurlijk maar bijzaak. Ook NASA grapt in een Tweet over de gelijkenissen met het logo van Starfleet en gooit er ook nog wat woordgrapjes over de Star Trek schepen Enterprise en Discovery in.
Brein Toch is het zien van het Star Trek-logo slechts een illusie. Een psychisch verschijnsel, dat ook wel pareidolie wordt genoemd. Ons brein is namelijk sterk geneigd om verbanden te leggen en patronen te zien. Dat komt vooral goed van pas bij het herkennen van vormen die op eventueel gevaar kunnen wijzen, zoals bijvoorbeeld het silhouet van een roofdier. Soms loopt ons brein echter een beetje te hard van stapel en ziet het verbanden of patronen die er niet zijn. Zo zien sommige mensen allerlei dieren in wolken, een gezichtje in de maan, of natuurlijk een Star Trek-logo op het oppervlak van Mars.
Het is trouwens niet voor het eerst dat er bekende figuren op de rode planeet worden gespot. Vorig jaar zag NASA bijvoorbeeld ook al de muppet Beaker op Mars voorbijkomen. En nee, ook deze is helaas niet door marsmannetjes in het zand getekend.

The Fermi Paradox, first introduced by physicist Enrico Fermi, asks the question, “Where is everybody?” Or, more specifically, “Where are all the aliens?”
When we factor in the size of the universe, the number of Earth-like planets, and a range of other variables (as outlined in the Drake equation), there should be tens of thousands or more extraterrestrial civilizations in the galaxy. And with the galaxy being around 10 billion years old, scientists say that intelligent worlds have had plenty of time to contact one another. So if aliens should statistically exist, why haven’t we encountered any yet?
10.Earth Is Special
The Rare Earth Hypothesis suggests that the chain of events that created life on this planet was so complex that only a biological perfect storm could recreate it elsewhere. While there may be Earth-like planets, none of them have exactly what it takes for intelligent life to develop. In other words, we haven’t met any aliens, because none are out there, or they are so few and far between that contact is highly improbable.
The major factor that makes Earth so hospitable to life is its long period of relatively stable climatic conditions, which is due to the planet’s unique orbit and position. Without our precise distance from the Sun and Moon, the planet would likely be too hot or cold, have too little oxygen, and be too unstable to support any life beyond bacteria.
Paleontologist Peter Ward and astronomer Donald Brownlee were the first to introduce the Rare Earth Hypothesis. Even though nearly 15 years have passed since they publicized the theory, and Earth-like planets have since been detected, they are still confident that the odds of those worlds having life are extraordinarily low.
9. All Intelligent Life Hits A Stumbling Block
According to the Great Filter theory, alien life does exist, but intelligent life is incapable of technologically advancing enough for long-distance space communication or travel. Although our modern spaceships, satellites, and radios may make it seem like we’re getting closer, we’ll inevitably reach a barrier or catastrophe that will either wipe us out or cause technology to devolve.
We know cataclysmic natural disasters periodically strike Earth, so it’s possible that these types of events hit worlds everywhere, sending intelligent life back to the Stone Age before technology can adequately develop. Or, maybe we annihilate ourselves, such as through nuclear war. Whatever the filter is, it seems to mean nothing but bad news for humans. Not only will we never communicate with space beings—we’ll probably die trying.
However, there is one possible bright side. Some think that we are the first individuals to make it past the filter, so we’ll eventually be the first super-intelligent beings to roam space.
8. They’ve Moved Out Of The Universe
According to futurist John Smart’s Transcension Hypothesis, intelligent alien life once existed in our universe, yet it became so advanced that it moved on to greener pastures. More specifically, aliens became so evolved that they stopped looking at outer space and instead focused on inner space.
The concept can be compared to the miniaturization we’ve experienced in computers. What initially began as an enormous, room-filling technology progressively became smaller (even pocket-sized) while simultaneously growing in complexity and power. To Transcension supporters, intelligent life evolves in much the same way, constantly working toward a denser, more efficient use of space, time, energy, and matter (“STEM compression“). Eventually, we’ll be living and operating at the nano-scale until we become so small that we create and exist in a black hole outside this space-time continuum.
To Smart and others, black holes are the ultimate destination. They allow for ideal computing and learning, time travel, energy harvesting, and more. Civilizations that don’t achieve this destiny are failures.
Other cosmic beings may be working toward their own transcendence. Like humans, they might emit space broadcasts, but these types of signals are supposedly the work of immature civilizations and are unlikely to be successful. Also, based on Moore’s Law (that computing power doubles every two years), these beings would likely reach transcendence before exploring the cosmos.
7. Earth Isn’t As Great As We Think
Perhaps it’s hubris to think that aliens would even have an interest in us or our planet. Worlds far more interesting and life-supporting may exist, and intelligent beings would much rather spend their time focusing on super-habitable places rather than Earth. This theory is the complete opposite of the Rare Earth theory—Earth isn’t special at all.
An alien race capable of traveling or communicating across light years would no more care about chitchatting with us than a human would converse with a fly. Likewise, they’d undoubtedly have their own superior technologies and would not require any of our measly resources. If, however, they did need to harvest minerals or elements, they wouldn’t have to visit Earth. Those things are found floating all over space.
Furthermore, no matter how intelligent the beings, traveling across light years is no easy feat. What are the odds they’d invest all that energy coming here when there are 8.8 billion Earth-like planets in the Milky Way? For followers of this theory, to think Earth is everyone’s destination is to suffer from the same geocentrism that led to Galileo’s erroneous persecution.
6. We’re Living In A Virtual Reality
Arguably one of the most difficult to accept explanations to the Fermi Paradox is the Planetarium Hypothesis. Our world is a “form of virtual reality ‘planetarium,’ designed to give us the illusion the universe is empty.” We haven’t discovered any extraterrestrial life because those extraterrestrials haven’t designed that into the program.
The fundamentals of this theory date back to Descartes, who asked, “How can we know that the world around us is real—are we just a brain in a vat, which thinks it’s living in the real world?”
Instead of being brains in a vat, however, most modern supporters of this notion think we’re in a computer simulation designed by advanced aliens. These aliens are capable of harnessing enough energy to manipulate matter and energy on galactic scales. Why would the aliens want to watch us like ants in a farm? Maybe just for fun, or maybe they just made us to see if they could.
As unlikely as the Planetarium Hypothesis may sound, professional philosophers and physicists are serious about this idea. They say that we’re more likely to be artificial intelligences in a fabricated world than to have our own minds. Furthermore, we will likely discover the simulation, since we’ll inevitably notice a glitch in the system or devise an adequate test to prove the theory.
5. We Live In The Cosmic Boonies
Although intelligent alien life might exist, our planets may be too far apart to make communication practical or purposeful. Earth may be so far away from other inhabited planets that we’ve simply been overlooked. If that doesn’t feel lonely enough, some claim most other worlds exist relatively close together in clusters and are interacting with each other, while we’re off in cosmic no-man’s-land missing out on the party.
The roots of this idea come from a mathematical theory known as percolation, which describes how things clump in a random environment. Based on the percolation theory, the universe naturally formed with areas of large clustered growth and a few smaller areas of growth in outlier positions. Other intelligent beings are in the big cluster, and Earth is an isolated outlier.
Instead of trying to make contact with these faraway beings, some, like Stephen Hawking, suggest that we continue to lie low. Hawking says that if we pick up on an alien signal, “We should be wary of answering back, until we have evolved.” Otherwise, we may suffer a fate akin to the Native Americans after Columbus arrived.
Scientists like Frank Drake and the late Carl Sagan have argued the “absence of evidence is very different from evidence of alien absence.” Alien hunting has been held back by lack of government funding, which is necessary to afford extensive alien-tracking equipment and resources. Historically, the search for extraterrestrial intelligence (SETI) programs have had to rely on borrowed radio telescopes and other equipment, which they could only use for a limited time. These hindrances have made it virtually impossible to make any real progress.
Still, there is some good news—at least for those who think making alien contact is a good idea. The Allen Telescope Array, a radio telescope array specially designed to search for extraterrestrial intelligence, became operational in 2007. This mega-telescope (consisting of 42 individual 6-meter-wide (20 ft) telescopes) was largely funded by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen. After numerous setbacks, it finally seems ready to begin doing some serious space exploration. If anything on Earth is capable of picking up alien signals, this is the device.
3. We Can’t Recognize Their Signals
Even if other planets are hospitable to life, would the beings there evolve similarly to living things on Earth? Maybe they are so different that neither of us would recognize a signal from the other. Comparable to how bats visualize sound waves while we only see light, it’s possible that humans and aliens operate with entirely different senses.
As cosmologist and astrophysicist Lord Rees pointed out, “They could be staring us in the face, and we just don’t recognize them. The problem is that we’re looking for something very much like us, assuming that they at least have something like the same mathematics and technology. I suspect there could be life and intelligence out there in forms we can’t conceive.”
Things get especially tricky when trying to connect with a highly advanced race because they might use communication methods (such as neutrinos or gravitational waves) beyond our technological understanding. Likewise, our primitive radio emissions might look like nothing more than white noise to them. If aliens and people are indeed extremely unalike, it’s unlikely that we’ll ever make contact and solve the Fermi paradox—especially so long as we’re anthropomorphizing aliens and expecting them to communicate as we do.
2. Super-Organisms Are Inherently Suicidal
The Medea Hypothesis, coined by paleontologist Peter Ward, is the notion that humans and other super-organisms carry within themselves the seeds of self-destruction. In this way, it very much ties in with the Great Filter theory, since it suggests that we end up dying before evolving enough to make alien contact.
The hypothesis is named after the murderous Medea from Greek mythology, who killed her own children. In this case, the planet is Medea, and all living things are her offspring. We don’t want to die, but Mother Earth made us destined to kill ourselves. Extinction is built into our biology to ensure that we are eliminated before we create too much of an imbalance on Earth. Once humans become an incurable plague on the planet, we will do something to guarantee our own demise.
Ward believes that almost all previous mass extinctions were brought on by living organisms. For instance, he blames the two Snowball Earth periods from millions of years ago on plants that proliferated so wildly that they absorbed excessive amounts of CO2. This brought about global cooling and consequently the plants’ demise. Similarly, if humans really are the root of today’s climate change, we may be well on the way to guaranteeing that our own species can’t survive on the planet.
In short, our internal suicidal clock will run out long before we get the chance to connect with aliens.
1. They Walk Among Us
It sounds like science fiction, yet people in prominent positions are confident that aliens live and work all around us. For example, former Canadian defense minister Paul Hellyer gave an interview in 2014 in which he claimed that 80 different species of alien life live on Earth. Some of them (including Nordic blondes) look nearly identical to humans. Another group, the “Short Greys,” appear more like stereotypical aliens and stay relatively hidden from the general population.
Hellyer is not alone in his claims. Physicist Paul Davies from Arizona State University and Dr. Robert Trundle from Northern Kentucky University have similar opinions about the existence of aliens on the planet. To Hellyer, Davies, Trundle, and those who share their beliefs, the Fermi paradox has already been answered—aliens do exist, and whether humans realize it or not, they interact with us on a daily basis.
Despite experiencing a great deal of criticism from their peers and the public, these men continue to be outspoken in their opinions.

Flying objects over Kansas City on Thursday night sparked the interest of locals and — for a while — had stumped people looking for answers.
KMBC 9 in Kansas City said on Twitter it had fielded "several calls" regarding two strange orbs floating over Kansas City International Airport.
A few watchers suspected weather balloons. The National Weather Service in Kansas City was deadpan in its response to that notion.
That tweet drew more than 600 replies, many of them people suspecting aliens.
The TV station joined in the speculation and launched a poll to see which would be more intriguing to alien visitors: NFL MVP and Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes or some Kansas City barbecue.
Mahomes won.
In the end, KMBC reporter William Joy appears to have solved the mystery. He tweeted that a spokesperson from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency told him, "given the position, it is likely one of their balloons in test flight."
According to its website, DARPA's mission is "to make pivotal investments in breakthrough technologies for national security."
DARPA tweeted on June 18 it had launched three balloons from Maryland as part of its Adaptable Lighter Than Air program.
"The goal of the Adaptable Lighter Than Air (ALTA) program is to develop and demonstrate a high altitude lighter-than-air vehicle capable of wind-borne navigation over extended ranges," the agency said on its website.
"The balloons can fly at altitudes of more than 75,000 feet. While they do not have independent propulsion, the ALTA vehicle is designed to navigate by changing altitude and thus taking advantage of different wind profiles aloft. A state-of-the-art Winds Aloft Sensor (WAS) is also being developed on the program, which is intended to provide real time stratospheric wind measurements.

There are even more potentially habitable planets near Earth than we ever imagined. A research team discovered two Earth-like planets in our cosmic backyard, and they're located in the perfect zone for water to form on their presumably rocky surfaces.
The planets orbit a sun known as "Teegarden's star," which is only 12.5 light-years from Earth. (A light-year is the distance that light travels in a year, or roughly 6 trillion miles or 10 trillion kilometers.) The two planets look an awful lot like Earth and our neighboring worlds, the researchers said.
"The two planets resemble the inner planets of our solar system," lead author Mathias Zechmeister, a research scientist at the Institute for Astrophysics at the University of Göttingen in Germany, said in a statement. "They are only slightly heavier than Earth and are located in the so-called habitable zone, where water can be present in liquid form."

The results were obtained as part of the CARMENES search for exoplanets; CARMENES stands for "Calar Alto high-Resolution search for M dwarfs with Exoearths with Near-infrared and optical Échelle Spectrographs."
According to that project's observations, the newly found worlds orbit their parent star with periods of roughly five days and 11 days, respectively. That's very quick compared to planets orbiting our own sun (even Mercury takes 88 days for a single circuit), but Teegarden's star is an M dwarf — a type of star that produces less light and energy than our own sun. Any potentially habitable worlds would be found huddled closer to this star than Earth is to the sun, or their water would freeze. Thus, their orbits would be quicker.
More planets could be lurking in Teegarden's star's solar system, the research team added, as many stars have more than a couple of planets orbiting them. The research team tried to find more evidence of planets using the "transit" method, which looks for subtle dips of brightness as a world passes in front of its star.
The scientists didn't detect any transits, but they did point out a coincidence of cosmic geometry: Any potential inhabitants on the newfound planets could use the transit method to see Earth. That's because from the vantage point of Teegarden's star, Earth orbits its sun at just the right angle to transit across the face of our star, allowing any astronomers "out there" to spot us as we pass by.
Donald Trump was recently asked about UFOs, and he hinted towards the fact that he's not really a believer, despite the fact that the reality of these objects can no longer be denied.

How much do presidents really know about UFOs and other programs that don't really have any government oversight? What's really going on?
Talking about the existence of UFOs is no longer taboo. It’s gone quite mainstream, and it appears that it’s not really a question of belief. There is more evidence for the existence of UFOs than there is evidence for many things humanity accepts as 100 percent real.
This evidence comes in the forms of actual military and commercial radar trackings of UFOs, videos and pictures of UFOs that’ve been released by multiple governments, and statements from hundreds of the highest ranking military personnel from across the world about UFOs being far more technologically capable than any aircraft on Earth.
Furthermore, we’ve had mainstream UFO disclosure. For example, Christopher Mellon, who served 30 years in the federal government and was Deputy Assistant Defense Secretary for Intelligence from 1997to 2002, has published multiple articles on mainstream media outlets like the Washington Post and New York Times about the reality of these objects and the need for governments to take them seriously.
Mellon’s Washington Post article detailed a number of extremely credible UFO encounters with the military. But again, this isn’t new information. In the 1950s, President Harry Truman went on national television announcing to the world that UFOs are real, and that they discuss the topic at every conference that they have with the military, that “there’s always things like that going on, flying saucers and they’ve had other things.” (source)
This is why it was very interesting to hear Donald Trump finally share his thoughts on the UFO phenomenon, as you can see below.
Was He Lying? Important Points To Consider
Being a UFO researcher for approximately 15 years myself, one thing has become quite clear to me and others in this field who have looked into the subject in depth: This topic goes far beyond the knowledge of the highest ranking people within the government, including the President. We are talking about Special Access Programs (SAP). From these, we have unacknowledged and waived SAPs. These programs do not exist publicly, but they do indeed exist. They are better known as ‘deep black programs.’ A 1997 US Senate report described them as “so sensitive that they are exempt from standard reporting requirements to the Congress.”(source)

One of the latest “proofs” of this came in the form of a testimony from Dr. Edgar Mitchell. It was a video testimony within UFO researcher Dr. Steven Greer’s “Sirius” documentary, where Mitchell details a meeting him and Greer had with Amiral Thomas Ray Wilson, who was the Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, regarding extraterrestrial space crafts and “crash retrieval” programs. This meeting was in 1997.(source)
What’s interesting is that a document was just leaked detailing notes from the well known scientist Dr. Eric Davis, who had a meeting with Wilson in 2002 regarding that specific meeting and what happened after it.
The document shows how Admiral Wilson was denied access to information about crash retrieval programs about downed extraterrestrial craft. This would mean crafts that were either shot down or who had potentially crash landed. (not sure what this means! like an extraterrestrial craft that was shot down? Please rephrase for clarity! thanks!)
It now makes sense why Paul Hellyer, former Canadian Defence Minister, said thatthe protocol with regards to these objects is to “shoot first and ask questions after.”
The document outlines how defense contractors have more knowledge regarding this subject, more so than the highest ranking people within the government. The document doesn’t include specific names but states, in this case, a popular aerospace contractor.

So, we are talking about your Bigelow’s and your Lockheed Martins. When I think about Bigelow aerospace, I think about the comments made by its CEO Robert Bigelow, stating that he has knowledge that extraterrestrials are and have been visiting our planet. When I think about Lockheed Martin, two former directors come to mind who have pretty much said the same thing: Ben Rich (former Lockheed Skunkworks Director) and To The Stars Academy’s (TTSA) Steve Justice, who was a Lockheed Aerospace Director.
The point is that Donald Trump probably knows very little about this topic, as with most presidents before him. It is controlled by a power that goes far beyond the government, perhaps by an international group of ‘powerful’ people with tremendous amounts of resources. One thing is certain: The private contractors definitely have more knowledge, as they are the ones that work with these crafts and perhaps even reverse engineer them and what not. But again, there are those above them that probably control this issue.
Trump may be telling the truth. He could be sharing how he feels, and he may not have come across information that convinced him, or he could be lying and thinking about the upcoming election as well – playing politics if you will.
Either way, the reality is that the existence of UFOs cannot be denied, so it’s surprising that Trump would make such comments.
The Takeaway
Some people believe that all of this is a hoax. The trust is that’s what the elite wanted us to think for so long. The subject has long been branded as a “conspiracy” theory, with high ranking officials like the very first director of the CIA, Roscoe Hillenoetter, admitting that:
Behind the scenes, high ranking air force officers are soberly concerned about the UFOs. But through official secrecy and ridicule, many citizens are led to believe that the unknown flying objects are nonsense. (source)
Today, there’s been a complete flip flop in opinions, and the subject is now slowly but surely being acknowledged. Some people believe this is part of the elite’s plan to create a false flag alien invasion and/or control the narrative in a certain way. We have yet to see that.
At the end of the day, the idea that other life forms are and have been visiting us dates back thousands of years. It has huge implications and leaves no aspect of humanity untouched. We still, however, have a lot to uncover/discover.

The photo right above was captured by the Curiosity Rover’s right-hand navigation camera , currently deployed on Mars and on route to Mount Sharp, which shows a striking flare of light seemingly torching near the horizon. Taken on April 4th, the photo somehow made its way to the general public (bad idea NASA) and stirred international turmoil back on Earth, where ufologists dissected and scrambled the photo on all its sides. Clearly, this is proof that artificial light sources exist on Mars, and who else than Martian could have made them? The truth may actually be much simpler.
The couple of meters tall flare is evidence that may indicate that there is intelligent life on Mars, which lives underground, that uses light sources similarly to us humans, says Scott Waring, a ufologist who runs the fantastic UFO Sightings Daily website. So what does NASA have to say about all this? The agency said that these sort of flares, albeit maybe not this large or striking, appear in photos and video streams a few times every month, and that there various reason why this may happen: sunlight beaming off a sharp rock with Curiosity’s camera facing it just at the right angle, sunlight striking the CCD imaging sensor directly through a hole in the camera’s housing or, unlikely enough, a a high-powered cosmic ray picking that exact moment to strike the sensor.
NASA’s policy of dealing with conspiracy theories is the same like dealing with terrorists: no negotiation. Ideally, the rover could have gone straight to the flare’s location and investigate, but the Curiosity mission is not some child’s play science project. It’s a multi-billion project whose primary goal is that of finding evidence or signs of present or past life on Mars – this flare doesn’t count, and the team at the Jet Propulsion Lab need to stick to their plan if they’re chances of success are not to fall. The rover is currently on route to the base of Mount Sharp, where it will continue its investigations, but even on this course, which has been extensively mapped and configured for maximum safety, there are perils – sharp stones that can perforate its wheels, loose stones that can trap the machine and more. With so much at stake, no one feels like risking it all for some old wives’ tale.
Also, to further enlighten conspiracy theorists I present exhibit B. While the first shot was taken by Curiosity’s right-hand CCD, the one below was taken exactly one second after with the left-hand navigation camera. The ghostly flare has vanished and went back whence it came.

Analysis of data collected by the Mars Curiosity Rover revealed evidence of a past cataclysmic event that would have ended all life on the surface of the red planet. The event could have involved intense volcanic activity, or been the result of a massive collision with a meteor, asteroid or planet. Either way, this catastrophe ultimately demolished the Martian atmosphere.
When Planets Collide, Bad Things Happen
With the information provided by the Curiosity Rover, we now know that Mars possessed an atmosphere rich in oxygen about four billion years ago. The Curiosity also found proof that water saturates the Martian soil, and that at some time in the distant past liquid water flowed freely on the planet’s surface.
This all suggests that conditions on Mars billions of years ago would have been favourable for the development of life. Whether it possessed these conditions long enough for life to actually evolve remains uncertain. Since the solar system itself is estimated to be about 4.5 billion years old, the time frame would have been condensed and it’s possible that only simple life forms would have had time to appear.
What is known for sure is that approximately four billion years ago, something dramatic and catastrophic occurred that changed things on Mars forever. Scientists studying Curiosity data were able to deduce this through measurements of the existing Mars atmosphere, which revealed the presence of two different forms of the gas argon. One form was quite primitive and ancient, while the other was created more recently through radioactive decay.
There were significant differences in the ratios of the two gases compared to what exists on Earth. The best way to explain these differences, planetary scientists say, was if Mars had experienced some sort of atmosphere-killing event in the distant past. This would explain shortages of the older argon gas.
Volcanic activity could have caused such upheaval. But Dr. Christopher Webster, from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, examined the Curiosity date thoroughly and as of now leans toward the collision hypothesis.
“Possible impact by a Pluto-sized body is thought to have stripped much of the atmosphere from the planet,” Dr. Webster explains. “Since then, the atmosphere has developed as a balance between volcanic injection and loss into space.”
In the first 500-700 million years of our solar system’s existence, Earth, Mars and other existing bodies were subject to constant bombardment by large chunks of space debris. These included massive asteroids and rogue planetoids that careened madly about the inner half of the solar system, occasionally slamming into Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars and the Moon with tremendous force. This period of time is known as the Late Heavy Bombardment , and if a Pluto-sized body did indeed smash into Mars it could have laid waste to the planet’s atmosphere quite easily.
The Volcanic Hypothesis
The collision theory has merit, and it could explain why Mars apparently lost its atmosphere so quickly. But recent discoveries have provided new ammunition for those who believe volcanic activity was most responsible for destroying the Martian atmosphere.
In May 2018, two planetary scientists from Johns Hopkins University, Dr. Lujendra Ojha and Dr. Kevin Lewis, published the results of their study of a region of Mars known as the Medusae Fossae Formation . This expanse of light, porous rock once covered an area of more than five million square kilometres, and after close analysis Drs. Ojha and Lewis concluded that it was composed of ignimbrite, a form of volcanic rock created by the sudden cooling of volatile volcanic gases exposed to the air.
The Medusae Fossae Formation is one of the largest sedimentary deposits on Mars. This is an infrared image mosaic generated using Thermal Emission Imaging System (THEMIS) images from NASA’s Mars Odyssey orbiter mission; the small colored globe based on the Mars Orbiter Laser Altimeter (MOLA).

“The Medusae Fossae was deposited during explosive volcanic eruptions more than three billion years ago,” they wrote, in the May 2018 edition of the Journal for Geophysical Research: Planets . “The eruptions that created the deposit could have spewed massive amounts of climate-altering gases into the Martian atmosphere and ejected enough water to cover the planet in a global ocean more than nine centimetres thick.”
Based on the results of their study, they concluded that Mars was far more active in its interior than previously believed. If volcanic activity had been as extensive as their research suggests, it could explain why the Martian atmosphere went through such radical changes and why it is composed of more than 95 percent carbon dioxide today (volcanoes release prodigious quantities of CO2).
Martian Apocalypses Both Real and Imagined
Interestingly, in 1909 scientists observing Mars through telescopes became convinced they were seeings signs of an apocalypse in action. An article entitled “ Life on Mars Ended by a Cataclysm ” appeared in the October 28 th, 1909 edition of the New York Times, describing the terrible scene supposedly unfolding on the Martian surface.
“A gloomy yellow veil has enshrouded immense tracts of the Martian surface,” wrote British scientists in the Journal of the British Astronomical Association. They claimed this veil had completely covered surface markings identified by famed American astronomer Percival Lowell as a network of canals built by a race of intelligent beings. The spreading of the yellow cloud followed closely on the heels of the observed cracking of the planet’s southern ice cap, and this led some to conclude that massive earthquakes, magnetic storms or volcanic activity had destroyed Martian society for good.
To their credit, many scientists dismissed this theory—and the idea that Mars was inhabited—even at the time. Ultimately, Lowell’s conclusions about the canals of Mars were proven false by direct observation. It is interesting to note, however, that Percival Lowell is still regarded as one of the founding fathers and leading lights of 20 th century astronomy. It seems that Mars has the capacity to evoke a sense of wonder and possibility in even the most highly-trained scientific observers.
More recently, plasma physicist John Brandenburg has received much attention for his assertion that a thermonuclear war on Mars wiped out life on the planet 180 million years ago. Brandenburg cites the existence of radioactive elements in the Martian soil and atmosphere as proof of this nuclear catastrophe.
“The Martian surface is covered with a thin layer of radioactive substances, including uranium, thorium and radioactive potassium,” he notes. Brandenburg points to elevated readings of the gas Xenon-129 in the Martian atmosphere as the most important evidence in support of his theory, since Xenon-129 is a rare substance which is typically found in the fallout of nuclear explosions.
Most scientists who’ve studied Martian chemistry believe the Xenon-129 in the planet’s atmosphere was created by cosmic ray bombardment. They reject Brandenburg’s nuclear war scenario, which like Lowell’s theory of Martian canals seems to be built on too little evidence and too much speculation.
Predictably, Brandenburg has been dismissed as a crank by many. But he has worked for multiple scientific and educational institutions during a long and successful career, and like Lowell his scientific credentials are impeccable.
The Truth is Out There… Maybe Way Out There
Whether certain theories about Mars are accepted or rejected, invalidated or confirmed, one thing has become clear. Mars is a dynamic planet that has gone through profound changes The Mars of long ago was a dramatically different place than the Mars of today. It seems that conditions favourable to life did once exist on the planet, and that makes it impossible not to wonder if Mars once was inhabited. And if so, by whom or by what?
For the sake of argument, let’s suppose that extraterrestrial life did exist on Mars when there was an atmosphere. And let’s suppose they were at least as advanced than our civilization today. What would they have done if they knew or suspected a cataclysm was coming?
Would they have developed some plan of escape, perhaps underground or off-world to a nearby planet or moon (like the Earth, for example)? If they were far more advanced than us, could they have transported themselves to another dimension or plane of existence, possibly preserving the ability to visit this dimension on occasion?
These are obviously science fiction scenarios, and we have no proof of their validity. But our capacity to look back billions of years into the past is severely limited by the nature of our instrumentation. Consequently, there will always be a degree of speculation involved in such an endeavor. If we limit our imaginations, we may be ill-equipped to comprehend the possibilities of a limitless universe.

Is this any way to manage and/or (yes, it’s an and/or question these days) protect our airspace? While one side of the world is on the brink of warfare because no one can agree on the exact location where a jet-sized drone was located before being shot down, people in Missouri are in misery after witnessing two mysterious orbs fly over Kansas City and neither the police nor the weather service nor the news media nor the FAA nor the military (at least initially) seemed to know what they were. Flying Tic Tacs get their own television shows and New York Times investigations but flying Altoids get no respect. This is why the UFOlogy world continues to demand answers. What ARE those things up there?

These are not the orbs you’re looking for but the grounds of the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City which is home to the world’s largest shuttlecocks.
A number of videos of the orbs, spotted in the evening of June 20, were posted to the Internet. (View one of the videos here.) After checking with the weather service and getting no answer, the Twitter-verse went wild (aliens, Google balloons, aliens, an invasion, aliens …) while the media checked with the usual suspects, including DARPA. This no longer requires a secret phone number or a clandestine insider … DARPA has a Twitter account too.

That was confirmed by StratoCat, an Argentine website that tracks and catalogs balloon launches, which also provided a link to the FLightRadar24 website, where everyone (except the people who really need to know) can track known flights and balloons and other things in the airspace. Doesn’t the National Weather Service have better things to do than explain non-weather UFOs?
It’s amazing that in this age of real hypersonic planes and alleged faster and more maneuverable flying triangles that we’re still depending on and testing more space balloons. It’s even more amazing DARPA can’t be a little more proactive and let those on the ground know about what might be mysteriously appearing in the sky … unless that’s part of the plan. Do they want to see what a real UFO panic will look like? Do they want to see if anyone has developed drones or amateur surface-to-air missiles that can reach their balloons? Stranger things have happened.
Let’s take a moment to commend people like Luis E. Pacheco, who started StratoCat in 2005 after being inspired by a UFO sighting over Buenos Aires in 1985 that he and many other Argentines believed was an alien spaceship but turned out to be … you guessed it … a balloon. While not all UFOs are balloons, it has been proven time and again that many of them are … secret or otherwise.
The case of the mysterious orbs over Kansas City appears to have been solved. However, the balloons are still floating over the U.S. Will the people in their flight paths find out before the next UFO report … or alien panic … or worse?

The Robert C. Byrd Green Bank Telescope
After reviewing the article published in The Astrophysical Journal about the study and the actual data available to the public on Breakthrough Initiative’s Open Data Archive, Jason Wright, an astrophysicist at Pennsylvania State University who was not involved in the work, gave billionaire Milner the correct answer in an interview with LiveScience. The team led by Danny Price, an astrophysicist at the University of California Berkeley, used the 328-foot-diameter (100 meters) Robert C. Byrd Green Bank Telescope in West Virginia, and the 210-foot-diameter (64 m) Parkes Telescope in New South Wales, Australia, to collect the 1 million gigabytes (1 petabyte) of radio and optical wavelengths from Earth’s closest neighbors and then searched for the technosignatures of life. You know, communication signals like radio waves or laser lights. After eliminating all of the knowns (signals from Earth satellites, for example), they were left with the list of unknowns. It wasn’t a very long list, according to Price.
“There’s certainly nothing out there glaringly obvious. There’s no amazingly advanced civilizations trying to contact us with incredibly powerful transmitters.”
Missed me!
Science-fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke once said that “any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic,” which means that we shouldn’t be searching for known unknowns, but for unknown unknowns – things we have no idea of what they might look like. Price somewhat agrees, saying that his team is limited by human knowledge, but he also holds out hope that they‘re just looking for the wrong frequencies or the signals are being blocked by our own global blanket of radio interference. Besides, he still has plenty of Yuri Milner’s left to spend, which he plans to do by adding the massive MeerKAT telescope array in South Africa to the mix and expand the study to a million stars.
He’d better hope Milner has never heard of Drake and Fermi.
There can be very few – if, indeed, any – people with an interest in paranormal phenomena that have not heard of the infamous “Roswell UFO crash” of July 1947. According to the story, it was on the massive Foster Ranch (situated in Lincoln County, and an hour or so from Roswell) that in early July the U.S. military secretly scooped up the remains of a wrecked craft from another world and its dead crew of large-headed, dwarfish pilots. While staff at the Roswell Army Air Field busied themselves by assuring the press that it was all a big mistake, and that nothing stranger than a weather-balloon had fallen to earth, the legend goes that the mangled bodies and the debris were secretly flown to a military base in Dayton, Ohio. Its name was Wright Field. Today, it’s known as Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. Wright-Pat’s reputation as the number-one resting place for alien entities with distinctly bad flying skills is legendary. Insiders and whistle-blowers talk about Hangar 18, Building 18, and The Blue Room. All three are supposedly distinctly off-limits rooms, buildings, and underground bunkers where the carefully preserved remains of who knows how many dead extraterrestrials can be found – if one has the correct, high-level security.
It turns out that Puerto Rico had its equivalent: the Roosevelt Roads Naval Station. For many years, it acted as the island’s very own Blue Room – allegedly, it’s important to stress! But, so the story went, it wasn’t alien bodies that were cryogenically housed at Roosevelt Roads. Nope: it was a bunch of dead chupacabras. There just might even have been a couple of living ones there, too. So I was told. On one of my trips to Puerto Rico I was not surprised to find that sifting fact from fiction, and legend from rumor, proved to be no easy job when it came to trying to unravel the controversial truth about Roosevelt Roads’ chupacabra stash. It was, however, a job that had to be done. The origins of Roosevelt Roads date back to just one year after the end of the First World War. It was 1919 when the then Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Navy visited Puerto Rico. That man was none other than a future American president: Franklin D. Roosevelt. The visit was no vacation, however. Roosevelt was there on a secret mission. He was focused on finding a suitable location where a military facility could be constructed, one that could act as a strategic outpost for Uncle Sam in the Caribbean. Roosevelt toured the island, finally pinpointing a northeast town called Ceiba, which was founded back in the 1830s, and that, today, has a population of around 13,000.
At the time, while the creation of such a base – with an airfield – could have been beneficial, it was not perceived as absolutely crucial. Things changed dramatically, however, when a certain Adolf Hitler came to power in 1930s-era Germany. The world was soon to face complete and utter carnage, the likes of which it had never before seen, or since. Steps had to be taken to combat the Nazi threat. One of those steps was the creation of Roosevelt Roads, which began in 1940, one year before the terrible events at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii occurred. Roosevelt Roads ultimately became the biggest U.S. Navy base on the planet and the headquarters of the U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command (NAVSO). It remained so for decades. All that changed, however, in March 2004, when NAVSO was given a new home: the Jacksonville, Florida-based Naval Station Mayport.
Now, with that said, it’s time to take a look at the story of Roosevelt Roads’ role as a top secret storage area for chupacabras. Or, more correctly: an alleged top secret storage area. On our visit to Puerto Rico in July 2004, Jon Downes (the Director of the Center for Fortean Zoology) and I heard a story of a UFO crash in the hills of Canovanas in 1957, one which reportedly, and quickly, led to gross mutations in the local populace. It was not a stand-alone story, however. On his first trek around the island, in 1998, Jon was able to dig into this 1957 event. One of Jon’s sources was a man named Reuben, a Puerto Rican brought up in New York, but who returned to the island as an adult. Arguably, Reuben was Jon’s most significant source, since he personally took Jon and a U.K.-based Channel 4 TV crew to the very spot in Canovanas where, he claimed, the craft from another world slammed into the ground, back in 1957. Jon told me that they came to a big clearing where the path became narrow, and, on one side, disappeared altogether, into a huge saucer-shaped arena. This, according to what Reuben had to say, at least, was where the UFO had crashed. Admittedly, there was a huge indent in the side of the mountain, said Jon. No trees grew there, and it did look as if some huge object had crashed into the mountain, scooping out trees and vegetation and leaving a bare area intermittently covered with patchy grass.
Jon and I had to remember that although the crash report had been around for decades, the chupacabra aspect of the story surfaced specifically post-1995, when the goat-sucking phenomenon began. The chupacabra link to the 1957 crash was fascinating, but it would have been even more fascinating had it surfaced prior to the 1995 outbreak. That it specifically didn’t kept me and Jon mindful of the possibility that this was an elaboration, a new twist, on an old tale – albeit not necessarily a deliberate and deceitful one. There is also a story of a UFO crashing in the heart of the El Yunque rain-forest in February 1984. I know that, because the basics of the account have reached me on three occasions over the past decade. It was early one morning when a large, circular-shaped object slammed into the ground, immediately after flying over the rain forest in a decidedly erratic fashion. To prevent people from learning the truth of the matter, a diversionary tactic was put into place that the UFO was a meteorite. Personnel from NASA, the U.S. Air Force, and the CIA were soon on the scene – in part, to scoop up the pummeled body parts of a couple of dead chupacabras, whose lives came to sudden and bloody ends when the alien craft hurtled violently into the forest at high speed. That’s how the story goes, anyway. I mention these cases because there are claims that the bodies recovered from both the 1957 and 1984 incidents were secretly transported to Roosevelt Roads, for study and autopsy, by senior U.S. Navy medical personnel – in a deeply buried, fortified bunker, no less. Reportedly, at least some of the bodies were later taken to an unidentified military base in Florida.
Also of relevance, while I was on Puerto Rico in 2005, with Red Star Films, our guide was filmed talking about a 1990s-era event in which U.S. military forces reportedly captured several extremely vicious Chupacabra in El Yunque. What happened to them, beyond first being held at Roosevelt Roads and then flown on to the United States – in secure cages, aboard a military aircraft – is unknown. Was this all nothing stranger than modern day folklore in the making? Or, could it have been the cold, stark truth? Was Roosevelt Roads really a Puerto Rican equivalent of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base’s Blue Room? Those questions have yet to be answered. I have to say that in my opinion we’re probably looking at the rumor-mill run wild. I’ll be very pleased to be proved wrong, though!
In April of this year, the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) noticed a new impact crater on Mars and it is unlike anything astronomers have ever seen. On a planet with a dusty red surface, the black and blue colors of the new crater definitely stand out, as well as its size and impact waves. In fact, during the thirteen years that the MRO has been observing Mars, they haven’t seen anything as remarkable as this new crater.
NASA’s High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) camera took the pictures of the crater while it was orbiting the planet at a distance of 158 miles away. While the exact date of the impact is unknown, astronomers believe that it happened between September 2016 and February 2019.

While it’s not uncommon for the Red Planet to get struck by asteroids and comets (more than 200 each year), this one is quite peculiar. Veronica Bray, who is a planetary scientist at the University of Arizona, told Space.com that the newly discovered crater is one of the most impressive that she’s ever seen.
Although the space rock that hit the planet was only around 5 feet wide, it created a crater of around 49 to 53 feet wide. If the five-foot-wide space rock would have come towards Earth, it would have burned up in our atmosphere. It is believed that the rock was probably more solid than normal, as the entire thing hit in one location close to the Martin equator called the Valles Marineris region. Normally, other small space rocks that come into Mars’ atmosphere shatter into much smaller pieces and create a bunch of little craters.
The announcement on the HiRISE website states “What makes this stand out is the darker material exposed beneath the reddish dust.” The darker area in the middle of the crater is where the dust had been pushed to the side and what is exposed is Mars’ rocky surface. Bray explained that the surface below the dust is more than likely basaltic rock and that the blue color in the image could be exposed ice that was hiding underneath. Even though the impact happened near the Martian equator, Bray said that it’s still possible that there could be some ice underneath the dust.

[Cont. from Part 1]In the transcript/summary of a 2002 conversation between Vice Admiral Thomas Wilson and Dr. Eric Davis it was revealed that a crashed extraterrestrial vehicle was being reverse engineered by a major aerospace company. Wilson first learned about the classified UFO program through a National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) document shared with him at a confidential April 10, 1997 meeting with Dr. Steven Greer, Dr. Edgar Mitchell, and Navy Commander Willard Miller.
The recently released transcript describes what Admiral Wilson [TW] told Dr. Davis [EWD] about Wilson’s efforts up to June 1997 to learn the truth about the classified UFO program, and the associated reverse engineering effort revealed to him in the April meeting.
EWD: Okay then, what happened in April-June ’97?
TW: After parting with Miller (week later, he thinks) – I made calls, knocked on a few doors, talked to people – went on for 45 days (thereabouts) on and off
Suggestion came from Ward (Gen. M. Ward) to go through the records groups files (like an index system) in OUSDAT (Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Technology)
Ran into Bill Perry in May ’97 – talked about this quietly – he suggested the same thing
They told me of a special projects record group not belonging to usual SAP – a special subset of the unacknowledged/carve-outs/waived programs – not belonging to usual SAP divisions as organized in ’94 by Perry himself – set apart from rest but buried/covered by conventional SAPs. (Transcript/Summary, pp. 6-7)
Wilson was here referring to different categories of Special Access Programs (SAPs), where the most important – unacknowledged/carve-outs/waived – were hidden behind conventional SAPs.
The method of hiding the most highly classified programs behind less classified ones was verified in one of the NSA documents leaked by Edward Snowden called Sentry Eagle. It graphically depicted how Exceptionally Compartmented Information (ECI – an Intelligence Community classification similar to an Unacknowledged SAP used by the Pentagon) would be hidden behind a Non-ECI Program (similar classification status to a conventional SAP)

Wilson went on to describe the aerospace company that ran the classified reverse engineering effort, without naming it:
EWD: Who was the project contractor or USG agency that runs the program?
TW: An aerospace technology contractor – one of the top ones in US
EWD: Who?
TW: Core secret – can’t tell
EWD: Defense contractor?
TW: Yes, the best one of them.
The reference to the “best one of them” firmly points to Lockheed Martin’s Skunkworks division which has a long track record of successfully working on cutting edge aerospace programs. For example, Skunkworks former Director, Ben Rich, was fond of ending lectures by declaring: “We now have the technology to take ET home”.

Wilson then explained what happened when he discovered which company was running the classified UFO program and contacted it to gain access:
EWD: What happened with you found contractor?
TW: I made several calls (end of May ’97), first to Paul, Mike & Perry to confirm I had right contractor and program manager to talk to.
EWD: They confirm?
TW: Yes.
EWD: Then?
TW: (End of May ’97) Made three calls to the program manager – one of them conference call with security director and corporate attorney.
Confusion on their part at to why I was looking for them and what I wanted from them or wanted to know about.
Wilson next explains how he was denied access to the classified UFO program by the three corporate officials (program manager, security director, and attorney):
TW: I told threesome I wanted formal briefing, tour, etc. – was exploiting my regulatory authority as Deputy Director DIA/Assistant Joint Chief of Staff J-2 – Told them my not being briefed was oversight they needed to correct – I demanded!
TW: They needed to discuss this (his demand) so hung up. Got called 2 days later and they said they don’t want to talk on phone and arranged for face-to-face meeting at their facility.
EWD: Did you go?
TW: Yes, ten days later (mid-June or so). Flew out there
Met in their conference room in their secure vault
Wilson describes how the “watch committee” told him about a prior incident years ago where the present security system was set up after an agreement was reached with the Pentagon’s Special Access Programs Oversight Committee (SAPOC), which was overhauled in 1994, very likely due to the incident Wilson was told about. The agreement gave the corporate contractor running certain categories of SAPs the authority to restrict access to UFO related programs from Pentagon officials regardless of their rank and position:
– [TW] Said after that episode a formal agreement was struck with Pentagon people (SAPOC) to prevent this in future – didn’t want a repeat
– Special criteria were established in agreement
A special circumstance that must meet rigorous access criteria set by contractor committee
No USG personnel are to gain access unless they met the criteria – to be administered by contractor committee (program director, attorney, security director) irregardless of the tickets and position USG personnel possess
The “watch committee” told Admiral Wilson that despite him being Deputy Director of the DIA and Vice Director of Intelligence for the Joint Chiefs of Staff, that he was not on the “bigot list” – those with a “need to know” access – who could be briefed about the UFO program:
TW: They said my tickets were all confirmed and valid, but I was not on the bigot list
My tickets alone were not enough
I didn’t meet the special criteria so need to know authorization was not being granted….
TW: Argued more – they wouldn’t accept my arguments that they fell under my statutory oversight and regulatory authority as Deputy Director DIA – under purview for my right to have need to know (oversight, audit, justification issues, etc., etc.)
Regulatory and statutory authority as Deputy Director DIA not relevant or pertinent to nature of their program!
Then they pulled out their bigot list to convince me otherwise – several pages long – dated 1990, updated 1993. [Transcript/Summary, pp. 11-12]
The transcription goes on to cover Wilson and Davis’ conversation about names on the bigot list, and who in the Pentagon and White House was allowed access:
EWD: Who was on it? Recognize names?
TW: That is core secret.
Willing to say that most were program employees – names and titles (job titles) – civilians – didn’t recognize any military personnel – could be there.
EWD: Any politicians?
TW: No
No White House names, no President!
No Congressional people
No Congressional staffers
EDW: Any in Clinton or Bush Sr. Administrations?
TW: No! But handful of names were Pentagon individuals I recognized – few from OUSDAT, one from another department, another at the NSC who is Pentagon SES employee. [Transcript/Summary, p. 12]
Stunningly, Wilson learned that no members of the Legislative (Congress) or Executive (White House) branches of government were briefed about the corporate UFO program. Only a few Pentagon officials were given access. This corroborates what Greer and others have been claiming for decades over the unconstitutional nature of the secrecy system developed for the UFO issue.
Next, the transcript elaborates on how Wilson tried to gain access by identifying the type of program that was underway attempting to link it to his official field of responsibility as Deputy Director DIA:
Finally, Wilson was told that the UFO program was a reverse engineering program of a recovered extraterrestrial vehicle, exactly what Greer, Mitchell, and Miller, had told him at the April 10, 1997 meeting. Importantly, Wilson expressed his surprise thinking that the UFO term was merely a cover for acquired foreign aerospace technology built by the USSR or China:
I asked what they were then

Security Director and attorney say it’s okay to say it.
EWD: Say what?
TW: There were a reverse engineering program –
Something recovered years ago in the past
Technological hardware was recovered
So I thought they meant recovered Soviet/Chinese, etc. hardware and reverse engineer it – like a missile or intel platform or aircraft – actually came to meeting expecting to find a sensitive foreign collection and reverse engineering operation – thought “UFOs” used as a cover for that –
So I said that and they said they weren’t that either
They had (program manager talking) a craft – an intact craft they believed could fly …
Program manager said they didn’t know where it was from [they had some ideas on this] – it was technology that was not of this Earth – not made by man – not by human hands [Transcript/Summary, pp. 12-13]
Wilson next described that he was told the corporation had encountered great difficulty in its reverse engineering efforts:
[TW] Said they were trying to understand and exploit technology: their program was going on for years and years with very slow progress
Agonizingly slow with little or no success – painful lack of collaboration to get help from outside community of experts and facilities to assist effort – must remain isolated and use own facilities and cleared personnel – tough environment to work – about 400-800 (bigot list count) workers varying in number funding or personnel changes. [Transcript/Summary, pp. 12-13]
When Wilson threatened to go to the Special Access Program Oversight Committee (SAPOC) he was told to go ahead by the corporate “watch committee” and was eventually denied access by the Senior Review Group running SAPOC Pentagon committee set up to oversee Special Access Programs:
TW: Before last week of June (’97)
They told me (TW) that they were sustaining the contractor, that I was to immediately drop the matter and let it go – forget about it as I did not have purview over their project, it didn’t fall within my oversight, etc.
I became very angry – started yelling when should have kept my mouth shut…
… Senior Review Group chairman said if I didn’t follower their suggestion that I would not see Director DIA promotion, get early retirement, lose 1 or 2 stars along the way
Really incredibly angry – upset over this – livid!!!
Why such a big deal over this considering the position of trust I have in the Pentagon – I do have relevant regulatory/statutory authority over their program – that’s my position!!! [Transcript/Summary, p. 14]
The refusal to grant access was the critical moment that Wilson realized that the corporation was being supported by a powerful group linked to the Pentagon to hide the corporation’s reverse engineering of an extraterrestrial spacecraft, as an Unacknowledged/waived SAP, hidden within the labyrinth of conventional SAPs conducted by the Pentagon and its corporate contractors.
The refusal was ultimately why Wilson believed that a UFO cabal/ MJ-12 was in charge of UFO related projects, and even senior officials at the DIA and the Joint Chiefs of Staff were out of the loop. This is what he told Commander Miller back in June 1997, who in turn relayed Wilson’s conclusions to Steven Greer and Edgar Mitchell who respectively revealed more details over the next two decades.

Researchers studied fossils of juveniles to help work out how the head of an adult Prosaurolophus maximusdinosaur might have looked.
Prosaurolophus was a hadrosaurthat lived 75 million years ago in what’s now northern Montana and southern Alberta, Canada. Unlike many duck-bills, which had a large bony crest on their heads, Prosaurolophus had only a small crest on the forehead. The researchers were interested in determining how the crest changed as the animal grew, as this feature has been thought to be related to sexual maturity and mate attraction.
The fossils used in the study – from Alberta’s Royal Tyrrell Museum – are the youngest and smallest individuals known for the species.

The study suggests that a showy snout and bony forehead crest developed as the animal matured. Eamon Drysdale is a graduate student in the Department of Geoscience at University of Calgary, and the lead author of the study published May 19, 2019, in the Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology. Drysdale said in a statement:
We noticed that the bony crest grew very slowly in Prosaurolophus and remained small, unlike what happened in some duck-bills, which rapidly developed a large bony crest. Instead, rapid changes in the snout as the animal matured suggest that a soft tissue structure may have associated with the nostrils and used for display.
In Prosaurolophus, the snout would have been the primary display feature rather than the large head crest of other duck-bills.
The research team with the fossil skeleton of a duck-billed dinosaur Prosaurolophus in collections at Royal Tyrrell Museum, that was found in ancient oceanic sediments.
This idea of a showy, fleshy snout had been hypothesized previously by paleontologists, and the new study now offers evidence to support this premise. Darla Zelenitsky is assistant professor in the University of Calgary Department of Geoscience, and Drysdale’s supervisor. She said:
Gathering evidence to support this hypothesis was difficult because it required finding the fossils of juvenile individuals, which are very rare. It took over 30 years for the Royal Tyrrell Museum to recover a decent growth series for the species.
The unusual setting in which the fossils were discovered also shed light on the environments in which Prosaurolophus lived.
Dinosaurs were land dwellers, so their remains are usually found in rocks deposited in rivers and lakes. This was not the case for the three juvenile Prosaurolophus fossils featured in this study, said the researchers, which were found in muds deposited at the bottom of an inland sea that covered Alberta about 75 million years ago. François Therrien, curator at the Royal Tyrrell Museum, also supervised Drysdale. He said:
It was very fortuitous that three young individuals of the same dinosaur species happened to float out to sea and sink to the bottom where they were buried. Their preservation in the fine mud contributed to the fossilization of large patches of skin showing the flanks of these animals were covered in a mosaic of large and small scales.
As for why and how these dinosaurs ended up at sea, Drysdale said:
It may have been that these particular dinosaurs spent a lot of time in coastal areas. Living close to the coast, these animals may have been more easily washed out to sea after they died.
Bottom line: A study used fossils from juvenile dinosaurs to help determine the appearance of the hadrosaur.

Breakthrough Listen is searching the universe for signals from alien technology, and the project recently announced that its made the largest data release ever in the search for extraterrestrial life.
The $100 million endeavor aims to scan 1 million stars in our neighborhood, 100 nearby galaxies and the plane of the Milky Way. According to a recent statement, the project has already cast a massive net in its quest to catch an alien signal or two. That hasn't happened yet, but the project still has news to report.
In a statement released Tuesday (June 18), Breakthrough Listen said it has collected almost 1 petabyte of digital data, or 1 million gigabytes, which is accessible to the public.
"This data release is a tremendous milestone for the Breakthrough Listen team," Danny Price, Breakthrough Listen Project Scientist for the Parkes Radio Telescope, said in the statement. "We scoured thousands of hours of observations of nearby stars, across billions of frequency channels. We found no evidence of artificial signals from beyond Earth, but this doesn't mean there isn't intelligent life out there: we may just not have looked in the right place yet, or peered deep enough to detect faint signals."
Breakthrough Listen's science team at the University of California, Berkeley's SETI Research Center came up with a way to analyze the large swaths of information for what scientists call "technosignatures." That category represents the potential footprints of technologies like transmitters and propulsion devices, but these signals are difficult to tease out from human-made technological chatter. Researchers described the techniques they are using to review the data in two upcoming studies, according to the statement.
Breakthrough Listen officials say the project's researchers are listening in to a range of radio and optical wavelengths. So far, their ears are the Green Bank Radio Telescope in West Virginia and the Parkes Radio Telescope in Australia, with more facilities set to begin collecting observations soon.
Founded in 2015 by Russian billionaire Yuri Milner, Breakthrough Listen has now submitted a broader analysis of 1,327 stars, which officials said is about 80% of its nearby star sample.
"While we have been making smaller subsets of data public before in varying forms and contexts," Matt Lebofsky, lead system administrator of Berkeley's Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) Research Center, said in the statement, "we are excited and proud to offer this first cohesive collection along with an instruction manual, so everybody can dig in and help us search. And we're just getting started — there's much more to come!"
The unpublished papers describing the work of Breakthrough Listen are available on the SETI Berkeley website.

Three U.S. senators received a closed-door Pentagon briefing yesterday about UFO sightings, Politico reports. The meeting was about a series of sightings by Navy pilots of “unidentified aerial phenomenon” — yet another sign that Congress is starting to take the matter more seriously.
The news comes after reports emerged in April that the Navy is working on new guidelines for its personnel to report sightings and other encounters with “unidentified aircraft.”
“If naval pilots are running into unexplained interference in the air, that’s a safety concern Senator Warner believes we need to get to the bottom of,” Rachel Cohen, a spokesperson for Mark Warner (D-VA), vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee and attendee of the briefing, said in a statement, as quoted by Politico.

Last week, President Donald Trump told ABC that he, too, was briefed on the UFO sightings.
“I want them to think whatever they think,” Trump said in an interview. “I did have one very brief meeting on it. But people are saying they’re seeing UFOs. Do I believe it? Not particularly.”

The news also comes after The New York Timespublished a report of pilots encountering “strange objects” that have “no visible engine or infrared exhaust plumes,” but could reach “30,000 feet and hypersonic speeds.”
“It doesn’t matter if it’s weather balloons, little green men, or something else entirely — we can’t ask our pilots to put their lives at risk unnecessarily,” Cohen told CNN.
