Uitgestorven ‘hobbits’ mogelijk verwant met moderne mens via neanderthaler en denisovamens
De homo floresiensis - beter bekend als uitgestorven ‘hobbits’ - en homo luzonensis - vernoemd naar het Filipijnse eiland Luzon - leefden meer dan 50.000 jaar geleden op eilanden in Zuidoost-Azië. Hun afkomst is niet bekend, maar nieuw onderzoek suggereert nu een nauwere verwantschap met neanderthalers en denisovamensen dan aanvankelijk gedacht. Of nog: de oude hobbits zijn mogelijk verwant met de moderne mens.
De nieuwe studie, onder leiding van João Teixeira van de universiteit van Adelaide, vond geen bewijs van kruisingen tussen de homo floresiensis of de homo luzonensis met de homo sapiens (de moderne mens). Die beide mensensoorten, die op de Zuidoost-Aziatische eilanden leefden, werden doorgaans niet groter dan 109 centimeter, wat mogelijk het gevolg was van eilanddwerggroei. Dat is een evolutionair proces waarbij een soort in de loop van de tijd kleiner wordt door een beperkte toegang aan levensmiddelen.
Tegelijkertijd kon het onderzoek wel kruisingen bevestigen van de denisovamens met de moderne mens die leefde in het gebied dat de tropische eilanden omvat tussen Oost-Azië, Australië en Nieuw-Guinea. De denisovamens - verwant aan de neanderthaler - kwam daar 50.000 tot 60.000 jaar geleden terecht, maar archeologen konden nooit fossiel bewijs bovenspitten van deze zogenaamde “zuidelijke denisovamens”. Gek, gezien het overweldigende genetische bewijs dat ze ooit wel degelijk in dat deel van onze planeet leefden. Zo dragen de huidige populaties daar nog een flink stuk DNA van de denisovamens in zich.
De studie stelt dus dat de moderne mens seksueel verkeer had met de denisovamens, maar niet met de homo floresiensis of de homo luzonensis. Dit is belangrijk omdat het mee de aanwezigheid in dat deel van de wereld zou kunnen verklaren van die kleine mensensoorten, die zo’n 50.000 jaar geleden uitstierven. Het zou, volgens de onderzoekers, kunnen betekenen dat ze “nauwer verwant zijn aan moderne mensen dan eerder werd gedacht”. Met andere woorden, de homo floresiensis of de homo luzonensis zijn misschien wel de zuidelijke denisovamensen, of een afstammeling daarvan.
Althans volgens onderzoeksleider Teixeira. Co-auteur en anthropoloog Chris Stringer is daar, verrassend, niet zo zeker van: “Ik vermoed dat Sumatra, Borneo en Sulawesi de thuislanden waren van de vermiste ‘zuidelijke denisovamens’.” Dat moet kunnen, volgens Teixeira: “Co-auteurs hoeven het niet over alles eens te zijn”.
Microplastic aangetroffen in nieuw ontdekt kreeftje op 7 km diepte
Britse onderzoekers hebben microplastic gevonden in een nieuw ontdekte kreeft, op bijna 7 kilometer diepte in de Marianentrog ter hoogte van de Filipijnen. Dat meldt het Vlaams Instituut voor de Zee (VLIZ) vandaag. Er werden resten van vermoedelijk een PET-fles aangetroffen in de darm van het diertje.
Onderzoekers van Newcastle University ontdekten in de reuzenvlokreeft een vezel polyethyleentereftalaat of PET, afkomstig van een plastic fles. Het is niet zo ongewoon dat dieren microplastics binnenkrijgen, maar deze kreeft bevond zich op 7 kilometer diepte in de Marianentrog, de diepste onderwatertrog ter wereld.
Het diertje van anderhalve centimeter leeft van aas dat neerdwarrelt vanuit hogere waterlagen en kreeg daarom de naam Eurythenes plasticus. Eerder werden al microplastics gevonden in andere diepzeekreeftjes in de tot 8 km diepe Peru-Chilitrog, aan de westkust van Zuid-Amerika.

Instrument met Belgisch tintje achterhaalt hoe Mars deel van water verloor
Mars heeft het grootste deel van zijn hoeveelheid water verloren. Dankzij een co-Belgisch instrument op de Europese sonde Mars Express hebben wetenschappers een tip van de sluier gelicht hoe dit is kunnen gebeuren, zo meldt het Europese Ruimtevaartbureau ESA.
Dat er ooit veel water op de Rode Planeet is geweest en mogelijk evenveel als bij ons, is ondertussen voldoende duidelijk geworden. Maar Mars heeft over enkele voorbije miljarden jaren heen veel water in de atmosfeer zien opgaan en dat is nog steeds het geval.
Hoe dit kon gebeuren was onduidelijk, maar onderzoek met de deels Belgische SPICAM-spectrometer (instrument dat de chemische samenstelling en de evolutie van de atmosfeer van Mars bestudeert, nvdr.) op de in juni 2003 gelanceerde Mars Express zijn enkele processen duidelijk geworden.
Waterdamp
De atmosfeer vormt de sleutel, zo bleek. Wetenschappers onderzochten waterdamp in de atmosfeer van de grond af tot een hoogte van 100 km, over acht Marsjaren heen (zo'n vijftien Aardse jaren).
Anna Fedorova van de Russische Academie voor Wetenschappen en collega's vonden dat die waterdamp beneden 60 kilometer hoogte bleef wanneer de planeet zich ver van de Zon bevond, maar tot 90 kilometer klom wanneer Mars het dichtst tot onze ster stond. De baan van de planeet schommelt tussen 207 en 249 miljoen kilometer van de Zon.
Nabij de Zon zorgden de hogere temperaturen en meer intensieve circulatie in de atmosfeer ervoor dat het water op een zekere hoogte niet bevroor. De bovenste laag van de atmosfeer raakte vochtig en gesatureerd met water. Dit verklaart waarom water tijdens dit seizoen sneller ontsnapt: het water komt hoger, wat ertoe bijdraagt dat het in de ruimte verdwijnt.
Stofstorm
Dan is er nog een tweede mechanisme. Het bleek dat in de jaren waarin er een enorme stofstorm op Mars woedde, de atmosfeer nog vochtiger werd en dat er zich water accumuleerde op meer dan 80 kilometer hoogte. De Franse onderzoeker Jean-Yves Chaufray schatte dat het waterverlies met een factor 100 kan variëren wanneer er zich een stofstorm voordoet.
Mars verliest aldus elk miljard jaar het equivalent van een laag van twee meter water. Maar geaccumuleerd over de vier miljard jaar dat de planeet bestaat, is dat nog geen verklaring voor waar al het water op de planeet naartoe is. Mogelijk is het onder de grond verdwenen of is er vroeger veel sneller water ontsnapt, suggereert Chaufray.
Een studie in het wetenschappelijk tijdschrift Science bracht vorige week al aan het licht dat heel wat water werd opgezogen door de bodem van de planeet. Daar ging het onomkeerbaar deel uitmaken van de moleculaire structuur van mineralen.

Do you believe in UFOs? Decades ago, if you answered yes to such a question many would have considered you to be a nutjob. But at this point UFOs are not a “conspiracy theory” any longer. In fact, even the U.S. government is admitting that they exist, and in just a few weeks we may learn a whole lot more about what the U.S. government really knows about this phenomenon. When President Trump signed a 2.3 trillion dollar COVID relief bill last December, it contained a provision which requires all U.S. intelligence agencies to submit an unclassified report to Congress that reveals all that they know about UFOs…
In December 2020, President Trump signed a coronavirus relief bill that included an interesting stipulation – the bill set into motion an 180-day time frame in which US intelligence agencies must tell Congress everything they know about UFO sightings, via an unclassified report.
Remarkably, in what sounds like the opening crawl of an unimaginative sci-fi film, the report must also include an analysis as to whether or not UFOs pose a threat to national security (perhaps, one day, our puny, primitive weapons will be used to “bring democracy” to a space-faring civilization).
Unfortunately, U.S. intelligence agencies insisted that 180 days did not give them enough time, and so now the report is expected to be released somewhere around June 1st.
But it is coming, and the COVID relief bill was very specific about what it must include…
The report will include all data found through “geospatial intelligence, signals intelligence, human intelligence and measurement and signals intelligence.” Classified information held by the Office of Naval Intelligence, the Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force and the FBI will be included as well.
It will be fascinating to see what actually ends up in this report.
Personally, I don’t think that the intelligence agencies will come even close to revealing everything that they know. But the fact that former Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe was willing to share so much information during an interview with Maria Bartiromo on Friday seems like a good sign. According to Ratcliffe, there have been “sightings all over the world”…
Ratfcliffe said some UFO sightings have been declassified in the past, but a report to be released by the Pentagon and other federal agencies will present more information to the American people.
“There have been sightings all over the world,” Ratcliffe said. “And when we talk about sightings, the other thing I will tell you, it’s not just a pilot or just a satellite or some intelligence collection. Usually, we have multiple sensors that are picking up these things.”
Yes, it is definitely quite true that there have been sightings all over the planet, but Esri has released an animated map that shows that more UFO sightings happen in the United States than anywhere else by a good margin.
During his interview, Ratcliffe also admitted that some of the things that UFOs do are “difficult to explain”, and that includes “traveling at speeds that exceed the sound barrier without a sonic boom”…
“Frankly, there are a lot more sightings than have been made public. Some of those have been declassified. And when we talk about sightings, we are talking about objects that have been seen by Navy or Air Force pilots, or have been picked up by satellite imagery, that, frankly, engage in actions that are difficult to explain, movements that are hard to replicate, that we don’t have the technology for, or traveling at speeds that exceed the sound barrier without a sonic boom.”
Of course videos that the U.S. Navy has previously released have already confirmed the fact that UFOs often perform aerial feats that human pilots simply cannot match…
Videos from the Navy were released last year through the Freedom of Information Act that showed UFOs moving at incredible speeds and performing seemingly impossible aerial maneuvers.
One of the videos was shot in November 2004; the other two were shot in January 2015. The three videos were code-named ‘FLIR1,’ ‘Gimbal,’ and ‘GoFast.’
In the 2015 videos, Navy pilots can be heard expressing disbelief. All three UFO videos were captured by Navy F/A-18 Super Hornets.
If UFOs can perform “seemingly impossible aerial maneuvers”, that would seem to suggest that whoever is piloting them is even more technologically advanced than we are.
I am entirely convinced that the U.S. government knows a great deal about UFOs and those that are flying them, and millions of Americans are very much looking forward to the release of the upcoming unclassified report.
U.S. government agencies will certainly not tell us everything, but I do believe that they will reveal more details than they ever have before.
Ultimately, I believe that the stage is being set for a great deception of epic proportions, and that is why I am starting to write more about the UFO phenomenon.
As more information is shared with the public, the narrative will be that UFOs are “spacecraft” that contain “aliens” from another planet.
And I think that it is quite likely that officials will insist that they are “friendly” and that we should be open to “learning” from them.
But the truth is that they are definitely not our “friends”.
As humanity moves into the darkest hours that it has ever known, people will become increasingly desperate for someone to come along and save us.
And if “aliens” were to show up with technology that we do not currently possess, many would be tempted to embrace them as “saviors”.
For decades, Hollywood has been relentlessly priming us for such a scenario, and now the U.S. government is starting to publicly acknowledge that UFOs aren’t just science fiction.
This is a story that is going to become increasingly important over the next few years, and it isn’t going to end well.

According to renowned UFO investigator, Dr. J. Allen Hynek, one of the most well-documented “close encounters of the third kind” occurred in the Anglican mission village at Boianai, Papua, New Guinea, which was, at the time of the incident, still a territory of Australia. The Australian Anglican Church was very involved in missionary work, and ardent in sending its heralds to the island nation.
One of these was the Father William Booth Gill. Gill was highly thought of by his co-hearts, and all those who knew him. As far as the occurrence of extraordinary events was concerned, Gill was skeptical, to say the least, especially being a devoted Church worker.
The first hint of the events to come, began on April 5, 1959, when Gill saw a light on the uninhabited Mount Pudi. This light, Gill stated, moved faster than anything he had ever seen. A month or so later, his assistant, Stephen Moi, saw an “inverted saucer-shaped object” in the sky above the mission. Gill dismissed these sightings as some sort of electrical or atmospheric phenomena.
Little did he know, that these events, whatever they were, had drawn their attention to the sky above them, and soon William Gill would have one of the most celebrated UFO sightings to ever be documented, which was validated by a whole group of additional witnesses.
This extraordinary event would take place at 6:45 P.M.,June 26, 1959. Father Gill saw what he described as a bright white light to the Northwest. Word of the sight spread quickly, and within a few moments, Gill was joined by no less than thirty-eight additional witnesses, including Steven Moi, Ananias Rarata, and Mrs Nessle Moi.
According to sworn statements, these thirty-plus individuals watched a four-legged, disc-shaped object approximately the size of 5 full moons lined up end to end. This unbelievable craft was hovering over the mission!
To their utter surprise, they saw four human-like figures that seemed to be performing a kind of task. Now and then one of the figures would disappear, only to reappear in a moment or two.A blue light would shine up from the craft at what seemed to be regular intervals. The witness watched the craft and its activities for a full forty-five minutes, until the shining ship rose into the sky, and disappeared at 7:30 P.M.
Glued to the sky, the witnesses would see several smaller objects appear at 8:30, and twenty minutes later, the first craft reappeared. This phenomenal occurrence would last an incredible four hours, until cloud cover obscured the view at 10:50. Father Gill prepared a full written report of this event, and 25 other observers signed the document.
This first sighting, a once in a lifetime occurrence, would incredibly be followed by another sighting the very next night. At 6:00 P.M., the larger object appeared again, with its occupants. It was shadowed by two of the smaller objects.
In William Gill’s own words: “On the large one, two of the figures seemed to be doing something near the center of the deck. They were occasionally bending over and raising their arms as though adjusting or “setting up” something. One figure seemed to be standing, looking down at us.”
(In a moment of anticipation, Gill raised his arms and waved to the figure.) “To our surprise the figure did the same. Ananias waved both arms over his head; then the two outside figures did the same. Ananias and myself began waving our arms, and all four seemed to wave back. There seemed no doubt that our movements were answered… “
Gill and Ananias continued to occasionally wave, and their waves were returned. Another witness, Eric Kodawara, waved a torch, and there were acknowledgments from the craft. Gill went inside to eat, but when he came back, the craft was still there, only farther away (smaller).
After a Church service, at 7:45, Gill again came outside to look for the craft, but clouds had appeared, and there was no sight of the object. The very next evening, the shining craft would make one more appearance.
Gill counted eight of them at 6:45. At 11:20, Gill heard a loud bang on the roof of the mission. Going outside to see what had happened, he spied four UFOs in a circle around the building. These four craft were extremely high in the sky. The roof was checked for damage the next morning, but none was found.
“Gill’s reports constitute the most remarkable testimony of intensive UFO activity ever reported to civilian investigators. They were unique because for the first time, credible witnesses had reported the presence of humanoid beings associated with UFOs.” NOTE: The above image is CGI.

Here is a really intriguing sighting. A few eyewitnesses saw a long white cylinder object moving silently across the sky. The object is being lit up from the lights on the ground. You can really hear the astonishment from the eyewitnesses. This cylinder object is similar to many other UFO reports and I think this one is watching the people below. It's testing the emotional and physical reactions that the humans have to seeing a real alien ship.

Here is a great video of a black UFO moving across the snowy mountain tops of California last week. The object was recorded by a guy clearing the snow in the area from the roads. I watched this video and I noticed that the object slowed down at times and even changed its shape. The dark object almost looks like a person as it moves across the sky. And as it was over the mountain top, I noticed that it seemed to pull something into itself. That happens at 30 seconds into the video and that why I said it changes shape. This UFO was headed to an alien base located below the mountain ridge, about 6km below the surface.

Sunday, March 14th at approx. 19:00 I stepped out of my snowcat to stretch, noticed object in the corner of my eye. Thought it was maybe a bird, but it was way too big, so I grabbed my phone and started to video the object. There was no sound coming from object so that eliminates a plane or helicopter. It was too windy for glider or paraglider. A significant storm was rolling in that night and the object maintained its path. I could kind of see a mist or aura around the object, especially in the video. It seemed like it would level out or turn 360 degrees back and forth and was moving as it was flying. As you can see, I was in a valley so if there was sound, I would have heard it. There were no lights but appeared to have some of aura and path. This video was taken just before sundown as the time had changed that morning. March 17th, days later, around 2100, I was in my snowcat at the highest point of the trails I groom when the speakers in the snowcat started to crackle and music started to mesh with itself. I was listening to a downloaded song on my iPhone since there was no service out there. It was a very calm night when suddenly, snow and wind abruptly surrounded my cat. This continued for about a minute and then went back to being calm again and music went back to normal. This could have been a coincidence, but I had a strange feeling.

Back in 1996, I received a number of stories – some from retired, British military personnel – suggesting that if I wanted to find out what the British Government really knew about UFOs – and particularly so crashed UFOs – I would be wise to focus my attentions not so much on the work of the Ministry of Defense, but on that of the Home Office.
Although the Home Office is chiefly known for its work in the fields of counter-terrorism, immigration, and crime policy, there are indications that its work delves into far deeper, and much more mysterious, areas, too.
According to several of the accounts provided to me back in ’96, the Home Office oversaw the security surrounding a number of secret, underground bunkers located across the south and southwest of England.
They were built as fortified havens for senior military and government personnel, in the event of a nuclear strike on the UK by the Soviets during the Cold War. I was advised, however, that deep within two of the bunkers were stored the remains of a number of alien bodies – all preserved in cryogenic states.
Of course, there is nothing new about such controversial claims. There are numerous accounts – particularly within the United States – of retired military personnel supposedly having seen extraterrestrial corpses in “secret hangars” or in “classified vaults.” And, indeed, many people with an interest in Ufology will know of the rumors surrounding the supposed “Hangar 18″ and the tales of dead aliens at Area 51.

What makes the stories about the Home Office and UFOs so interesting and different, however, is the noted lack of attention they have received over the years. That’s not to say there isn’t an intriguing body of data available. Quite the contrary: there actually is an intriguing body of data on this matter. According to researcher and author Timothy Good, in his 1987 book, Above Top Secret:
“A close friend of mine whom I have known since 1952 witnessed the landing of an unidentified flying object in Derbyshire in September 1963, and subsequently came into contact with its operators. Four years afterwards two men with Home Office identification cards turned up at my friend’s flat and politely asked a number of questions which clearly indicated that they were familiar with aspects of the incident.”
Similarly, in 1982 Good interviewed an eye-opening interview with a retired police inspector, in an attempt to determine if the UFO issue was subject to the constraints of the British Government’s Official Secrets Act – a piece of legislation utilized to muzzle government employees when deemed necessary by officialdom. According to Good’s source: “What I can say to you, is that I know the subject itself was the subject of a Home Office directive.”
Further data that suggested a link between the world of the UFO and that of the Home Office came from the late Graham Birdsall of UFO Magazine, who informed me that he had spoken with one George Wild – a prison officer at Armley Prison in the English city of Leeds – on a highly controversial matter of a UFO nature.
Wild informed Birdsall that a “senior Home Office prison official” had once let it slip to him that on the first night of the famous series of UFO incidents at Rendlesham Forest, Suffolk, England in December 1980, high-level orders had arrived at the nearby High Point Prison advising staff to prepare for a possible evacuation of the inmates due to a matter of national security.
I also learned in 1996, from a now-retired UK government official, that the Home Office had extensive guidelines in place in the event that a space satellite decayed from its orbit and crashed on British soil.
“You could equally apply those guidelines to a crashed UFO,” he said, with a smile of the knowing kind. Acting on this information, in December 1996, I telephoned the Home Office and asked to be put through to their Press Office.
I explained the situation: I was interested to know what the Home Office’s response would be if a large, metallic object from space – such as a satellite – crashed to earth on the UK. I considered it wise not to mention UFOs, even though that was my primary area of interest.
I was transferred to a helpful man who informed me that the responsibility for monitoring satellite movements over the British Isles was predominantly the domain of the tracking station at RAF Fylingdales, Yorkshire.
If it appears there is a possibility, however remote, that a satellite in a decaying orbit might impact on the UK, Fylingdales had standing orders to keep the Ministry of Defense informed, who in turn were obliged to advise the Home Office of the unfolding situation. As the Press Officer explained to me:
“The Home Office has responsibility for emergency planning, which obviously isn’t specific, necessarily, to satellites. But the situation is they only really become a matter for the Home Office when they’ve landed, because that’s when the emergency services come into play.”
He continued: “For example, there was one recently – a Chinese satellite which came down. That was one we were kept well informed of and were aware of. We were advised of the expected time it was going to land and all that kind of stuff. We don’t really take much actual action; our side would be more the policy angle; ensuring that all the right contingency plans are in place.”
My next stop: RAF Fylingdales.
“You want the Space Information Officer,” I was advised by the switchboard operator at Fylingdales when I detailed my quest to her. A few moments later the SIO was on the line: “We track satellites all the time. When there are predictions for satellite decays – this is maintained by US and UK authorities – and if there is one which is potentially going to cause problems, the Ministry of Defense and the Home Office are the people who get involved.
“We would just track it and keep those people up to date with what was happening with the satellite at the time. The Home Office and the MoD do all the coordination. Accurate predictions as to where something is going to crash are very difficult: it depends exactly on what the satellite’s doing – if it’s rolling or if it’s got high drag in one part or another. It also depends on what angle it enters the upper end of the atmosphere.
“There are experts that are able to calculate to within an hour or so when it’s coming down. We can advise the Home Office and the MoD of the position of the satellite, how it’s moving, whether it’s speeding up, slowing down, or whether it’s changing its attitude, or whatever.”
In addition, and also in 1996, I received a newly-declassified Home Office directive of 1979 titled Home Office Circular No. ES 5/1979, Satellite Accidents. It dealt with Home Office guidelines for dealing with the possible recovery of stricken space vehicles on the British mainland. The document stated:
“It is for the Government to decide whether, and if so by what means, a public warning of danger from radioactivity should be given. In reaching that decision, the need to prevent unnecessary alarm would be carefully considered. Chief Officers should therefore ensure that nothing is done locally to anticipate a Government statement.
“When reports of suspected or actual locations have been received the police should take such steps as may be needed locally to prevent people entering areas which may be dangerous because of radioactive material. Some larger pieces of debris might have radiation fields of significance over distances of the order of 100 meters.”
The document then went on to illustrate the many and varied divisions within the British Government that had jurisdiction in the area of fallen spacecraft. As well as the Home Office, this included: the Atomic Weapons Research Establishment at Aldermaston; the National Radiological Protection Board; the Ministry of Defense; Chief Officers of Police and Chief Fire Officers in the UK; and representatives of the “NAIR Scheme” – the National Arrangements for Incidents Involving Radioactivity.
Clearly the directive – and the testimony of the staff at the Home Office and at RAF Fylingdales – was relative to the Home Office’s involvement in the recovery of crashed space vehicles of terrestrial origin.
But what of the Home Office’s link with objects of possible non-terrestrial origin? I have to admit that, although I have a number of stories on-file concerning alleged Home Office involvement in crashed UFO events in the UK, nothing concrete or definitive has ever surfaced. Nevertheless, where there is smoke there is often a degree of fire, too…

Numerous government around the world are slowly coping with the idea that the worldwide population has a right to know whether or not we are alone in the universe. In fact, the disclosure movement has never been as strong as it is today with countless Military officers, government officials, and astronauts speaking out about the existence of alien life and Alien spacecraft.
Among all of the governments on the planet, it is believed that the United States have a lot of disclosure to do. Presidential Candidate Hilary Clinton has stated that if she is elected President of the United States, she would disclose all alien related documents and get to the bottom of the UFO phenomenon.
Jon Podesta, who was President Barack Obama’s right man, and Chief of Staff under the Clinton administration tweeted not long ago that one of his biggest regrets of 2014 was his failure to “secure the disclosure of UFO files” and that “the time to pull the curtain back on this subject is long overdue. We have statements from the most credible sources, those in a position to know – about a fascinating phenomenon, the nature of which is yet to be determined.”
But despite serious attempts of disclosure, the government of the United States still maintains that they do not have knowledge of any information related to the Alien/UFO phenomenon.
However, many maintain that the reason why disclosure hasn’t happened yet isn’t because of the government. It’s very likely that such a subject might even go far beyond, extending into powerful corporations and a tight group of international elites.
Many governments around the globe have declassified a number of UFO-related documents which only proves that they have been extremely interested in the UFO phenomenon for years. However, not only have governments released classified information, agencies such as the FBI, NSA and CIA have also declassified some of their most secretive files on UFO’s and Alien life in the universe.

The declassified document was addressed to “certain scientists of distinction,” to“aeronautical and military authorities,” and to “a number of public officials.”
The declassified document is a letter sent to the director of FBI in Washington from their San Francisco office, detailing UFO’s and extraterrestrials.

The teams behind NASA’s Perseverance rover and Ingenuity helicopter have selected an airfield on Mars for the 4-pound (1.8 kilograms) chopper and are preparing to fly in the near future.
“Ingenuity’s test flights are expected to begin no earlier than the first week of April,” NASA officials wrote in a mission update on Wednesday (March 17). “The exact timing of the first flight will remain fluid as engineers work out details on the timeline for deployments and vehicle positioning of Perseverance and Ingenuity.”

During a press conference on Tuesday (March 23) at 1:30 p.m. EDT, NASA will provide an update on the Ingenuity flight plan (17:30 GMT). You can watch it live directly on NASA’s website.
Perseverance, which landed inside the Red Planet’s 28-mile-wide (45-kilometer) Jezero Crater on Feb. 18, still has ingenuity tucked away in its belly. Perseverance will deploy Ingenuity onto the red dirt and drive about 330 feet (100 meters) away once it arrives at the chosen airfield. According to mission team members, the six-wheeled rover will attempt to document the little chopper’s flights using its Mastcam-Z camera suite and two microphones.
Ingenuity is a technology demonstration designed to pave the way for future aerial exploration of Mars. It carries a high-resolution camera but no science instruments. NASA officials have stated that if Ingenuity’s flights are successful, future Red Planet missions may include helicopters that serve as scouts for rovers and/or gather data on their own.

E.T., we’re home. Existing laser technology could be fashioned into Earth’s “porch light” to attract alien astronomers, reports MIT News.
A new study from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) proposes to create a cosmic beacon, with available laser technology, strong enough to attract potential aliens located as far as 20,000 light-years away.
The research, called “feasibility study,” appears in the Astrophysical Journal.
The findings suggest that if a 1 to 2-megawatt high-power laser were to be focused through a massive 30 to 45-meter telescope and into space. This combination would produce a beam of infrared radiation strong enough to stand out from the sun’s energy.
MIT researchers propose a radical method for aliens elsewhere in the universe. The ESO 3,6-meter telescope located at the La Silla Observatory in Chile, with images of the stars Proxima Centauri, is shown in this image.
Furthermore, scientists explain that once a potential alien civilization picks up this signal, we could use the same system to transmit brief messages to communicate with aliens.
“If we were to close a handshake and start to communicate successfully, we could flash a message, at a data rate of about a few hundred bits per second, which would get there in just a few years,” explained author James Clark, a graduate student in MIT’s Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics.
The best part is that the technology needed to get this working is already available to use, and such an instrument could soon be developed.
“This would be a challenging project but not an impossible one,” Clark explains.
“The kinds of lasers and telescopes that are being built today can produce a detectable signal so that an astronomer could take one look at our star and immediately see something unusual about its spectrum. I don’t know if intelligent creatures around the sun would be their first guess, but it would certainly attract further attention.”
Several possible configurations were considered by experts before the eventually picked two that would work best for their design.
Using a 2-megawatt laser and putting it through a 30 meter-telescope, we could produce a powerful signal that could be picked up clearly from Proxima Centauri B, one of the planets closest to our sun and possibly home to alien life.
Using a 1-megawatt laser and putting it through a 45-meter telescope, we could then produce a powerful enough signal to be intercepted by anyone inhabiting the Trappist-1 system, located 40 light-years away from Earth.
However, Clark explains that both options could be detectable as far as 20,000 light-years away.
But while this plan may sound attractive and help us find out whether we are alone in the cosmos, the plan has a few risks.
Although shinning the powerful laser through the telescope would not be something that you could see with the naked eye, the powerful beam could disrupt spacecraft instruments on its path. It could also harm a person’s eyesight if he or she were to stare directly at it.
Clark explains that “If you wanted to build this thing on the far side of the moon where no one’s living or orbiting much, then that could be a safer place for it.”
“In general, this was a feasibility study. Whether or not this is a good idea, that’s a discussion for future work.”
It wouldn’t work the other way around
While this plan could work for us if we were to try and signal aliens, ‘ hey, we are here,’ the same thing wouldn’t work the other way around.
According to scientists, if the roles were reversed and instead looked for a similar laser beacon coming from space, it would not be easy to spot with currently available technology.
“It is vanishingly unlikely that a telescope survey would observe an extraterrestrial laser unless we restrict our survey to the very nearest stars,” Clark explains.
“With current survey methods and instruments, it is unlikely that we would be lucky enough to image a beacon flash, assuming that extraterrestrials exist and are making them,” Clark adds.
“However, as the infrared spectra of exoplanets are studied for traces of gases that indicate the viability of life, and as full-sky surveys attain greater coverage and become more rapid, we can be more certain that, if E.T. is phoning, we will detect it.”

Dead Sea Scroll Fragments Discovered In Judean Desert Cave
Dozens of fragments of a 2,000-year-old biblical “Dead Sea scroll” have been found in a cave in the Judean desert, Israel. It is the first time such text has been found in 60 years, since the motherload of Dead Sea scrolls was found in the 40’s and 50’s. They are one of a number of finds made in a largescale historic survey by the Israeli authorities of the Judean desert cave system.

The Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA) have announced “magnificent and rare” finds after completing an operation to protect the cultural treasures that were vulnerable to looting in the Judean Desert Nature Reserve.
According to the IAA, this is the first time such text fragments have been found since the last find of the famous Dead Sea scroll parchments were recovered from caves in Qumran in the West Bank. These famous parchments are remains of the oldest copies of biblical text in the world, dating back to between the 3 rd century BC and the 1 st century AD.
The operation to survey and excavate the desert caves and ravines has been running since 2017. It is a collaboration between the IAA and the Staff Officer of the Archaeology Department of the Civil Administration in Judea and Samaria, with funding from the Landmarks Program of the Ministry of Jerusalem and Heritage, explained the IAA statement .
Since the Dead Sea scrolls were discovered in the region over 70 years ago, the area has been targeted by thieves and looters. The aim of the survey was to find and recover any antiquities that might remain in the area, to save them from the hands of thieves.
According to Amir Ganor, head of the Antiquities Theft Prevention Unit, the operation has been a real success. Ganor stated that “since the commencement of the operation in 2017 there has been virtually no antiquities plundering in the Judean Desert,” reports AP News .
Investigator repels into Cave 8 at Nahal Hever known as the Cave of Horror, where the Dead Sea scroll fragments were recently discovered.
Missing Pieces Miraculously Found In The “Cave of Horror”
According to an IAA film on the discovery, around 20 fragments were initially discovered in the new find, and this number rose to 80 in total according to AP News . Based on the writing style they are from the 1 st century AD, states the IAA.. The content of the text includes sections from the Book of the Twelve Minor Prophets including lines from the books of Zechariah and Nahum, written in Greek.
It is thought that the new parchment finds are some of the missing pieces of a larger group of scroll fragments that were previously discovered in the cave known as the “Cave of Horror.” This cave, designated as “Cave 8,” is located in Nahal Hever, and lies 80 meters (262 feet) below the clifftop, so it is only accessible using climbing equipment .
In 1952, the cave was found to contain the remains of 40 men, women and children that were hiding out from the Romans during the Bar Kokhba Revolt . This was when the Jewish rebels attempted an uprising against the Roman regime of Emperor Hadrian. The revolt lasted from 132-136 AD, and initially Jews gained a great deal of territory, including 50 strongholds and almost a thousand towns and villages, including Jerusalem.
But their success was to be short lived. They were defeated by the tactics of Julius Severus, who besieged the Jewish fortresses and camps until rations were exhausted and the people were weak. This seems to be what happened at the Cave of Horror. The group hid for as long as they could last but are thought to have eventually died of starvation or thirst.
Found along with the Dead Sea scroll fragments in the cave was a cache of coins. The entire coin hoard is thought to have been hidden during the Jewish Bar Kokhba revolt.

Other Ancient Finds From The 500 Plus Nahal Hever Caves
The survey has been a massive operation and has included the investigation of over 500 caves. The arid conditions of the caves have allowed items to be preserved over many millennia. Other important finds discovered during the survey were far more ancient than the Roman period.
These include the 6000-year-old mummified remains of a child, and what is believed to be the oldest completely intact woven basket and lid in the world, which has been radiocarbon dated to as old as 10,500 years.

The ancient skeleton had been wrapped in a material and placed in a dug out pit, underneath two stones, reports the Jerusalem Post . The remains included naturally mummified flesh and other organic matter and “a small bundle of cloth was clutched in the child’s hand,” said Ronit Lupu, an IAA prehistorian, who went on to state:
“…and because of the climatic conditions in the cave, a process of natural mummification had taken place; the skin, tendons, and even the hair were partially preserved, despite the passage of time."

The oldest find on the list of outstanding discoveries was recovered from Muraba‘at Cave, 18 km (11.2 miles) south of Qumran. It is a woven basket , complete with lid. It has been dated to the Neolithic period, around 10,500 years ago, and the IAA claim this is possibly the oldest complete basket ever to be found anywhere in the world.
These finds are highlights of what has been deemed an extremely successful archaeological search and rescue operation.

Watch this mind blowing video and you will notice that its an animal cam recording the local deer. However as a deer is grazing in front of the cam, a metallic disk shoots slowly past the deer. The disk look to be about one meter across and the dark area in its middle is a window area. This object is actually watching the deer grazing as the came watches them both! Absolutely takes my breath away. This video is one for the history books.
