Oldest living microbes found in 2-billion-year-old rock
Oldest living microbes found in 2-billion-year-old rock
Story by Andrew Paul
(Photo : UTokyo | 東京大学/ X) Living microbes found in 2-billion-year-old rock from South Africa could be a time capsule to the early evolution of life on Earth and improve our chances of finding evidence of life on Mar.
A sealed rock fracture almost 50 feet below ground has remained home to microbes for the last 2 billion years—the oldest life ever discovered in such conditions. The nearly 1-foot sample, excavated beneath South Africa’s Bushveld Igneous Complex, predates the previous microbial record-holders by as much as 1.9 billion years. The finding could help researchers better understand the earliest stages of evolutionary life not just on Earth, but on Mars, as well.
The findings, published October 2 in the journal Microbial Ecology, come from a team at the University of Tokyo’s Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences, who confirmed the previous oldest known lifeforms in 2020.
“We didn’t know if 2-billion-year-old rocks were habitable… so this is a very exciting discovery,” Yohey Suzuki, study lead author and an associate professor in the University of Tokyo’s Graduate School of Science, said in a statement on Thursday.
This picture was taken on site when the drill core sample was washed, flamed and then cracked.

Uncovering microbes hidden from the surface world for eons required building upon the researchers’ previous methodologies for determining an organism’s age and origin. Doing so required combining three types of imaging approaches—electron microscopy, fluorescent microscopy, and infrared spectroscopy—to confirm if the microbial life really was that old, or if it came from accidental contamination during excavation and analysis. After staining the cells’ DNA, researchers looked at the microbes’ proteins as well as their surrounding clay habitat, and determined them to be both alive and native to the fissure sample.
How the microbes have been able to continue existing longer than almost any other life on Earth likely comes in large part from their habitat. Located in northeastern South Africa, the Bushveld Igneous Complex (BIC) is a roughly 41,000-square-mile region known for rich deposits of ore, including an estimated 70 percent of all mined platinum. Billions of years ago, volcanic magma cooled incrementally beneath the Earth’s surface in regions as thick as 5.6 miles.
These formations have remained largely unchanged since then, but also include tiny fissures in which microbial life became densely packed. At the same time, clay sediment capped any gaps near these cracks, trapping the tiny organisms inside while allowing nothing else to enter. Experts theorize that allowed the stability for microbial life to continue at an extremely slow pace with little-to-no evolutionary changes. With further exploration, the team hopes to detail what some of the planet’s earliest life looked like billions of years before the arrival of humans.
A rock structure scientists at University College London believe could contain the earliest fossils of life ever found.

Future findings aren’t necessarily limited to expanding our understanding of how organisms evolved on Earth over time. The research team hopes their additional discoveries can one day also help search for evidence of life on Mars.
“NASA’s Mars rover Perseverance is currently due to bring back rocks that are a similar age to those we used in this study,” Suzuki explained. “Finding microbial life in samples from Earth… makes me excited for what we might be able to now find in samples from Mars.”

Deep space exploration might no longer be confined to sci-fi after scientists began testing a rocket thruster which promises to boldly go further than ever before.
Astro engineers from the University of Southampton are trialing a new propulsion system which can power spaceships through the stars using any type of metal as fuel.
They say this means crafts fitted with the technology could fly indefinitely by refilling their tanks using minerals harvested from asteroids or far-off moons.
Lead scientist Dr. Minkwan Kim, from the University of Southampton, has been tasked with testing the propulsion system in his labs to measure its thrust.
He said the tech could help spaceships and probes travel to regions of the universe previously thought unreachable.
Dr. Kim added, "Spacecraft have limited amounts of fuel because of the enormous cost and energy it takes to launch them into space.
"But these new thrusters are capable of being powered by any metal that can burn, such as iron, aluminum or copper.
"Once fitted, spacecraft could land on a comet or moon, rich in these minerals, and harvest what it needs before jetting off with a full tank.
"It could open up vast new frontiers and accelerate our understanding of the universe."
Once blasted above the Earth's atmosphere, spacecraft are mostly propelled by rare gas phase fuels such as xenon or krypton, which also power the Starlink satellites.
Scientists from Southampton are working with British-based space firm Magdrive on the propulsion system. The technology is named Super Magdrive.
Dr. Kim, who created a plasma thruster design for the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launched last year, said he hopes the tech can be used for future deep-space missions.
He added, "The system could help us explore new planets, seek out new life, and go where no human has gone before—enabling never-ending discovery."
Lunar Ice Deposits are More Extensive than Previously Thought
Lunar Ice Deposits are More Extensive than Previously Thought
Prior studies found signs of ice in the permanently shadowed regions near the south pole of the Moon, including areas within Cabeus, Haworth, Shoemaker and Faustini craters. A new analysis of data from NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) shows there is widespread evidence of water ice within permanently shadowed regions outside the south pole, towards at least 77 degrees south latitude.
This illustration shows the distribution of permanently shadowed regions (in blue) on the Moon poleward of 80 degrees south latitude. They are superimposed on a digital elevation map of the lunar surface (gray) from the Lunar Orbiter Laser Altimeter instrument on board NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter.

Ice could become implanted in lunar regolith through comet and meteor impacts, released as vapor (gas) from the lunar interior, or be formed by chemical reactions between hydrogen in the solar wind and oxygen in the regolith.
The permanently shadowed regions (PSRs) typically occur in topographic depressions near the lunar poles.
Because of the low Sun angle, these areas haven’t seen sunlight for up to billions of years, so are perpetually in extreme cold.
Ice molecules are thought to be repeatedly dislodged from the regolith by meteorites, space radiation, or sunlight and travel across the lunar surface until they land in a PSR where they are entrapped by extreme cold.
The PSR’s continuously cold surfaces can preserve ice molecules near the surface for perhaps billions of years, where they may accumulate into a deposit that is rich enough to mine.
“Our model and analysis show that greatest ice concentrations are expected to occur near the PSRs’ coldest locations below 75 Kelvin (minus 198 degrees Celsius, or minus 325 degrees Fahrenheit) and near the base of the poleward-facing slopes of PSRs,” said Dr. Timothy McClanahan, a researcher at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center.
“We can’t accurately determine the volume of the PSRs’ ice deposits or identify if they might be buried under a dry layer of regolith.”
“However, we expect that for each surface 1 m2 residing over these deposits there should be at least about five more liters of ice within the surface top 1 m, as compared to their surrounding areas.”
Dr. McClanahan and colleagues used LRO’s Lunar Exploration Neutron Detector (LEND) instrument to detect signs of ice deposits by measuring moderate-energy, ‘epithermal’ neutrons.
Specifically, they used LEND’s Collimated Sensor for Epithermal Neutrons (CSETN) that has a fixed 30-km (18.6 mile) diameter field-of-view.
Neutrons are created by high-energy galactic cosmic rays that come from powerful deep-space events such as exploding stars, that impact the lunar surface, break up regolith atoms, and scatter subatomic particles called neutrons.
The neutrons, which can originate from up to about a 1-m (3.3-foot) depth, ping-pong their way through the regolith, running into other atoms. Some get directed into space, where they can be detected by LEND.
Since hydrogen is about the same mass as a neutron, a collision with hydrogen causes the neutron to lose relatively more energy than a collision with most common regolith elements.
So, where hydrogen is present in regolith, its concentration creates a corresponding reduction in the observed number of moderate-energy neutrons.
“We hypothesized that if all PSRs have the same hydrogen concentration, then CSETN should proportionally detect their hydrogen concentrations as a function of their areas,” Dr. McClanahan said.
“So, more hydrogen should be observed towards the larger-area PSRs.”
The findings were published this week in the Planetary Science Journal.

Shocking Discovery About Moon's Water Resources: A New Perspective on Lunar Exploration | Explore
Physicist Michael Pravica claims that human consciousness arises from hidden dimensions of the universe rather than solely from brain activity. He suggests that Jesus could be a hyperdimensional being, as referenced in the Bible. According to him, our consciousness has the ability to transcend the physical world during moments of heightened awareness.
Dr. Michael Pravica’s theory is about the idea that the universe has more dimensions than the four we know: height, length, width, and time. He explains this concept using a hypothetical scenario involving a two-dimensional being. “Imagine you’re a two-dimensional being living in a two-dimensional world, like a character in a comic book,” he stated. As a three-dimensional sphere passes through, it would appear as a dot that grows and shrinks, illustrating how limited perceptions can hinder understanding of higher dimensions.
Michael Pravica is an expert in general physics, specializing in high-pressure science, X-ray spectroscopies, and nuclear magnetic resonance. He studies matter under extreme conditions, focusing on high pressure, temperature, and radiation, while also advocating for science through media outreach.
Dr. Pravica has developed innovative concepts like “useful hard X-ray chemistry” for novel chemical reactions and Ion Beam Nuclear Transmutation Doping for semiconductor doping. He holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in Physics from Harvard University and a B.S. in Physics and Applied Mathematics from the California Institute of Technology.
Hyperdimensionality, Bible & Jesus!
Dr. Pravica concept ties into the theory of hyperdimensionality, or the idea that our universe is not just made up of the three dimensions we perceive. Instead, the universe might actually be part of a much larger nexus with hidden dimensions, he suggests.
If this controversial theory turns out to be true, we would have to accept not only that some beings may be residing outside the physical realm, free from the limitations of space and time, but also that our consciousness might have a similar capacity, He claims.
Dr. Pravica is an Orthodox Christian who earned a Ph.D. from Harvard. He thinks hyperdimensionality is a special way to connect his scientific knowledge with his religious beliefs. This idea puts him outside traditional scientific views, as he takes common ideas to new extremes to explore complex topics.
He believes that hyperdimensionality is more common than we realize. For instance, he suggests that Jesus could be a hyperdimensional being, among others. “According to the Bible, Jesus ascended into heaven 40 days after being on Earth. How do you ascend into heaven if you’re a four-dimensional creature?” Dr. Pravica asks. But, if you’re hyperdimensional, it’s very easy to travel from our familiar world into heaven, which could be a world of higher or infinite dimensions, he says. (Source)
Pravica believes that we all have the ability to connect with higher dimensions when we use our brains in certain ways. This can happen when we create art, do scientific work, think about deep questions, or even explore different places in our dreams
During these times, our awareness goes beyond the physical world and connects with these higher dimensions, which then inspire us with new ideas and creativity. Pravica says, “The fact that we can imagine dimensions beyond the four we see is a special gift… it goes beyond just biology.”
This idea of our consciousness connecting with higher dimensions relates to advanced physics theories like string theory.
String theory suggests that everything in the universe, from tiny particles to the forces between them, is made up of tiny, vibrating strings. The way these strings vibrate in hidden dimensions creates all the different particles and forces we see. Pravica explains, “String theory is basically about understanding how the universe is built on a very small scale.”
Hyperdimensionality might help us understand why spacetime is curved. This means that space and time bend around huge objects like stars or planets, creating gravity. Pravica suggests that if spacetime is curved, it could be because of a higher dimension.
Many physicists believe in the idea of higher dimensions, but not everyone agrees with Pravica’s thoughts on how hyperdimensionality connects to consciousness. Some scientists might even see these ideas as very unconventional or as an extreme logical argument that doesn’t hold up.
Skepticism
Dr. Pravica believes in a view of God that fills in the gaps where science doesn’t have answers. Stephen Holler, a physics professor at Fordham University, explains that this way of thinking is not helpful. It stops people from being curious and learning more about the world. Instead of saying “I don’t know,” people should see that admitting ignorance is a chance to learn.
Holler gives an example from history to show how science improves our understanding. In the past, people thought the Earth was at the center of the universe (the geocentric model). To explain the movement of planets, they created complicated ideas like epicycles, which were small circles added to the larger paths of planets around Earth. This made things confusing and delayed the acceptance of the correct model, where the sun is at the center (the heliocentric model). Holler points out that while exploring new ideas can be exciting, we should be careful not to get lost in unnecessary complexity that doesn’t reflect reality.
Moreover, the limitations of current technology, such as the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), pose challenges to exploring these dimensions. The LHC, which smashes particles at high speeds, allows physicists to study fundamental particles but cannot access the high-dimensional strings predicted by quantum physics. Holler states that “not even the most powerful particle accelerator in the world can provide real proof that these dimensions exist,” reinforcing the need for concrete evidence.
Agree with Dr. Pravica or not but there is more to consciousness. Billionaire Robert Bigelow the only billionaire who spent millions of dollars searching for the soul or consciousness after death, and what he found might disturb you. We are all servants of a supreme consciousness. He claims that G-LOC makes our consciousness leave the body, allowing us to see beyond the room while being outside the body.
In an interview with Jeffrey Mishlove, billionaire Robert Bigelow discusses how out-of-body experiences can be triggered artificially. He learned about this from an Air Force general who had such an experience during centrifuge training. In this training, people endure high gravitational forces until they pass out. The general described how, after one session, he saw himself from above, observing his body walking and hearing conversations he wouldn’t normally hear. Separately, in 1962, American engineers found unusual electromagnetic signals aimed at the U.S. Embassy in Moscow, leading the Pentagon to start a secret program to replicate these effects. Years later, the U.S. studied the Soviet interest in controlling human behavior through psychic means, fearing it was a threat.
The U.S. military has conducted extensive research into this potentially dangerous phenomenon and has officially named the experience “G-LOC.” The popular television show Sightings did an entire segment on G-LOC-induced OBEs that was titled “Simulated Out-of-Body Experiences.” Several U.S. military pilots participated in an experiment where G-LOC was created in a NASA centrifuge. Each interviewed pilot reported that he had passed out and then described a detailed out-of-body state of consciousness.”— The Secret of the Soul: Using Out-of-Body Experiences to Understand Our True Nature by William Buhlman. (Source)
Even though Holler identifies as nonreligious and an atheist, he acknowledges that spiritual beliefs that are consistent with established physical principles can strengthen both faith and science. Still, he says that “hyperdimensionality borders on science fiction.”
Dr. Pravica has faith that, within his children’s lifetime, we’ll figure out a way to generate the incredibly high energies required to investigate other dimensions. Meanwhile, he remains a vocal supporter of hyperdimensionality.
“I see no point otherwise,” he says. “Why study? Why live?” Hyperdimensionality gives the physicist a purpose, a happiness that “transcends this universe.”
The shocking official CIA documents on human consciousness that says Consciousness is not a part of our body at all, it’s stored in our brain, but not a part of it. Our consciousness (us) is its own being, a ghost version of us.
If you were asked to visualise Antarctica, it's likely a vast white landscape would spring to mind.
But a concerning new study might have you rethinking that image in your head.
Experts from the universities of Exeter and Hertfordshire have warned that Antarctica is turning green - with climate changeto blame.
Their analysis shows that vegetation cover across the Antarctic Peninsula has increased more than tenfold over the last four decades.
'Our findings raise serious concerns about the environmental future of the Antarctic Peninsula, and of the continent as a whole,' said Dr Thomas Roland, who led the study.
If you were asked to visualise Antarctica, it's likely a vast white landscape would spring to mind. But a concerning new study might have you rethinking that image in your head. Pictured: a WorldView-2 Satellite Image of Robert Island (top) and the same image after the analysis, showing areas of vegetated land in bright green (bottom)
Previous studies have shown that, like many polar regions, the Antarctic Peninsula is warming faster than the global average. Pictured: Green Island
Previous studies have shown that, like many polar regions, the Antarctic Peninsula is warming faster than the global average.
In their new study, the researchers set out to understand how much of the area has 'greened' in response to this warming.
The team analysed satellite images taken across the Peninsula over the last 40 years.
Back in 1986, the images show that just one square kilometre of the Peninsula was covered with vegetation.
However, by 2021, this area had increased to almost 12 square kilometres.
Speaking to MailOnline, Dr Roland explained that while simple before-and-after photos would be 'impactful', they were not possible.
'Sadly we only have "very high resolution" images from 2013 and 2016,' he said.
'Whilst the increases in vegetation we observe over this short window are in line with our overall greening trend (1986-2021) the visual difference is not that remarkable!
'In turn, a single image from the coarser resolution satellite we use for the main study (where we have hundreds of images over the full 35 year period), I suspect, would not be perceived as good enough "quality" as to be impactful.'
The team analysed satellite images taken across the Peninsula over the last 40 years, and found that vegetation cover has increased significantly
Back in 1986, just one square kilometre of the Peninsula was covered with vegetaion. However, by 2021, this area had increased to almost 12 square kilometres. Pictured: Norsel Point
Greening accelerated by over 30 per cent in recent years (2016-2021) relative to the full study period (1986-2021) – expanding by over 400,000 square metres per year in this period. Pictured: Barrientos Island
The study also found that the greening is happening quicker and quicker.
Greening accelerated by over 30 per cent in recent years (2016-2021) relative to the full study period (1986-2021) – expanding by over 400,000 square metres per year in this period.
'The plants we find on the Antarctic Peninsula – mostly mosses – grow in perhaps the harshest conditions on Earth,' said Dr Roland.
'The landscape is still almost entirely dominated by snow, ice and rock, with only a tiny fraction colonised by plant life.
'But that tiny fraction has grown dramatically – showing that even this vast and isolated 'wilderness' is being affected by anthropogenic climate change.'
Worryingly, the researchers say that as these ecosystems become more established and temperatures continue to rise, the extent of the greening will increase.
Experts from the universities of Exeter and Hertfordshire have warned that Antarctica is turning green - with climate change to blame. Pictured: Ardley Island
Dr Olly Bartlett, co-author of the study, said: 'Soil in Antarctica is mostly poor or non-existent, but this increase in plant life will add organic matter, and facilitate soil formation – potentially paving the way for other plants to grow.
'This raises the risk of non-native and invasive species arriving, possibly carried by eco-tourists, scientists or other visitors to the continent.'
Based on the findings, the team is calling for 'urgent' research into the specific mechanisms behind the greening trend.
'The sensitivity of the Antarctic Peninsula's vegetation to climate change is now clear and, under future anthropogenic warming, we could see fundamental changes to the biology and landscape of this iconic and vulnerable region,' Dr Roland added.
'In order to protect Antarctica, we must understand these changes and identify precisely what is causing them.
In recent years, the growing interest in Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP), commonly referred to as UFOs, has drawn attention from both the public and government agencies. Among the noteworthy contributors to this research is Nightcrawler Research, a group spearheaded by twin brothers Gerry and John Tedesco, both of whom are electrical engineers. Their work, initially rooted in studying cancer clusters on Long Island, has taken an unexpected turn toward UAP research, ultimately catching the eye of the FBI and other federal agencies.
From Cancer Clusters to UAP Investigations
The Tedescos’ foray into UAP research began in an unexpected way. Originally, the brothers were focused on analyzing cancer clusters on Long Island, prompted by the loss of friends and a desire to use their scientific expertise to investigate environmental contaminants. Equipped with a mobile laboratory filled with detection gear and cameras, they sought to uncover any correlation between pollutants and the rise of cancer cases in the region.
However, their direction shifted when the Director of National Intelligence released a landmark report on UAPs in 2021. Intrigued by the findings, Gerry and John turned their research toward the skies, leveraging their engineering skills and high-tech equipment to capture unprecedented footage of these mysterious aerial phenomena.
Cutting-Edge Technology in the UAP Field
One of the defining aspects of Nightcrawler Research’s work is their use of advanced technology. The brothers have invested a significant portion of their personal savings into acquiring state-of-the-art equipment. This includes hyperspectral cameras, which are capable of capturing light spectrums beyond what the human eye can perceive. This technology has proven invaluable in detecting and filming objects that are invisible under normal conditions, further strengthening their case for the existence of UAPs.
During their research along the flight routes near Long Island, particularly in areas where aircraft approach and depart from JFK International Airport, the Tedescos managed to record a series of astonishing encounters with UAPs. One notable example includes footage of a cylindrical object—referred to as a “Tic-Tac”—that appeared to fly perilously close to a passenger aircraft. The clarity of these images, particularly when viewed in slow motion, has caught the attention of aviation safety authorities due to its potential implications for air traffic safety.
Gaining Federal Attention
The work of the Tedesco brothers has not gone unnoticed. Their methodical, data-driven approach has attracted the interest of not only UAP enthusiasts but also government bodies. Recently, they accomplished what few UAP researchers have managed to do: they had a peer-reviewed paper on UAPs published in a prominent scientific journal. This achievement brought their research to the forefront, and soon after, federal agencies, including the FBI and Homeland Security, began to take notice.
The government’s interest is likely tied to national security concerns, as many of the UAPs the Tedescos captured were found in close proximity to commercial aircraft. The risk these objects pose to flight safety has raised alarm bells, particularly given their unknown origins and capabilities. As more footage and data have surfaced, the FBI has begun engaging with the researchers, possibly signaling a broader federal inquiry into UAPs beyond what has been publicly acknowledged.
The Importance of Their Work
What sets Nightcrawler Research apart is not just their impressive technological setup but also their dedication to approaching the UAP phenomenon scientifically. As trained engineers, Gerry and John Tedesco are able to scrutinize their findings with a critical eye, ensuring that what they present is backed by data. Their use of hyperspectral imaging has allowed them to film objects that otherwise would have gone unnoticed, expanding our understanding of what might be out there.
While much of the UAP conversation has been shrouded in mystery and skepticism, the Tedescos’ work brings a level of credibility and scientific rigor to the field. By documenting their findings through peer-reviewed research, they are helping to shift the dialogue surrounding UAPs from fringe theory to mainstream scientific inquiry.
Nightcrawler Research’s work is a testament to the power of scientific curiosity and technological innovation in exploring the unknown. What began as a local investigation into cancer clusters has transformed into a significant UAP research project, one that has captured the attention of federal agencies like the FBI. As concerns about national security and flight safety grow, it is likely that researchers like the Tedescos will play an increasingly important role in unraveling the mystery of UAPs. Their groundbreaking footage and data have already provided a clearer glimpse into the phenomenon, and as their work continues, we may soon find more answers to the questions that have puzzled humanity for decades.

Unveiling The Reasons Why UFO/UAP Technologies Have Been Hidden
An upcoming documentary is set to shed light on the mysterious tale of a Manhattan housewife and mom-of-two who claimed she was abducted by a UFO in the late 80s.
The docuseries, titled The Manhattan AlienAbduction, tells the story of Linda Napolitano, who is convinced she was abducted from her bedroom in New York on November 30, 1989.
The series attempts to uncover the true story behind the UFO communities biggest mysteries - with Napolitano, who used the pseudonym Linda Cortile initially - directly involved with the documentary's creation.
The trailer, which was recently released online, contains interviews with Napolitano recalling what happened on the night that she said changed her life, as well as archival footage from the years following the alleged extra-terrestrial experience.
'They saw me hanging from my window,' Napolitano says in the trailer, as the footage flashes between the Brooklyn Bridge and enactments featuring a woman in a white nightgown floating above a Manhattan apartment building.

Noted abduction researcher, Budd Hopkins, believed her story and began conducting an exhaustive investigation on Napolitano's case in February 1991
'I don't know why they're keeping it from the public, but we're not alone,' another voice says, while someone else declares it 'the greatest abduction case in the world' - alleging there were '23 witnesses.'
Napolitano's case is still a source of controversy online today, with some questioning the reliability of the story and question what evidence is available to support Napolitano's claims.
Noted abduction researcher, Budd Hopkins, believed her story and began conducting an exhaustive investigation on Napolitano's case in February 1991.
He came to New York with his wife at the time, Carol Rainey, who said he found Napolitano's story to be 'very credible.'
'She was pulling the wool over Budd's eyes,' another woman said, while others said psychosis was to blame.
The trailer shows Hopkins guiding Napolitano through various techniques - such as hypnosis - to explore her memories of the event which revealed more detail.
According to an article published on UPI in 1994, Napolitano claims that in the early morning hours of November 30, 1989, she was visited by a 'grey biped.'
She said she was then levitated by a blue beam through the window of her 12th floor Manhattan apartment.

The article noted that Hopkins reported that he had received a letter from security agents - signed only Richard and Dan - who claimed to have seen a figure floating in the night sky.
In the note, they reportedly said 'we can't live with ourselves' for not sharing what they saw.
Richard and Dan said they saw three 'strange figures' and a 'young woman in a white gown' floating through an apartment window and then transported to a UFO.
As per HiggyPop, a website dedicated to stories of paranormal activity, there have been suggests that political figure the bodyguards were protecting may have been Javier Perez de Cuéllar, the Secretary-General of the United Nations at the time.
However, he has never confirmed his involvement.
The Manhattan Alien Abduction streams on Netflix from October 30.

Mysterious 'skyquakes' have been heard around the world for more than 200 years, but scientists have yet to uncover the cause and origin of the bizarre noises.
The sounds could be mistaken for a gunshot or a car backfiring, and have been heard in areas ranging from Belgium and Japan to the Finger Lakes region in New York.
Scientists have tried to uncover where the resounding booms are coming, proposing theories like a meteor exploding in the atmosphere, military exercises, quarry blasts and distant storms or earthquakes.
A strange skyquake has shaken the world since the early 1800s, causing scientists to speculate what could be the cause. They have considered earthquakes, military exercises and storm blasts - but none seem to be the root cause
The first skyquakes were documented in 1811 after people in New Madrid, Missouri heard the strange sounds during a 7.2-magnitude earthquake.
Residents reported hearing 'artillery-like sounds' before or during the quake hit.
Similar noises were then reported during an earthquake in Charleston, South Carolina in August 1886, which were heard for weeks afterward the 7.3-magnittude.
The skyquakes were described them as a 'roaring sound' or 'loud detonations.'
These noises have also been labeled as Lake Guns or Seneca Guns, after Seneca Lake in central New York state which also experienced the phenomena in 1850.
James Fenimore Cooper, who lived in Seneca Lakes during one of these skyquakes, described the experience in his short story 'The Lake Gun.'
'It is a sound resembling the explosion of a heavy piece of artillery, that can be accounted for by none of the known laws of nature,' Cooper wrote.
'The report is deep, hollow, distant and imposing. The lake seems to be speaking to the surrounding hills, which send back the echoes of its voice in accurate reply.'
In the years that followed, the booms were unidentifiable due to their random timing and were unaffiliated with any other natural events.
It wasn't until 2020 that scientists started using seismic data obtained from the EarthScope Transportable Array (ESTA) since 2013.
ESTA is a network of more than 400 seismic stations across the US that detects earthquakes, volcanoes and landslides.
A team of researchers at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill cross-referenced ESTA's data with news articles to determine if the noises were caused by earthquakes.
'Generally speaking, we believe this is an atmospheric phenomenon – we don't think it's coming from seismic activity,' Eli Bird who, a researcher who was involved in the study told Live Science at the time.
'We're assuming it's propagating through the atmosphere rather than the ground.'
The researchers speculated that another possibility could be bolides - which are space rocks that explode when they hit the Earth's atmosphere.
Bird said another possibility could be oceanic events like large waves crashing offshore or thunder cracking over the ocean.
'The atmospheric conditions could be such that that gets amplified in a particular direction, or is primarily affecting this localized area,' he told Live Science.
However, despite their efforts, seismologists have still been unable to definitively pinpoint where the skyquakes are coming from.
Residents in 15 Alabama counties were shocked by a boom in November 2017, prompting them to call 911 operators in fear.
The National Weather Service in Birmingham informed people that they couldn't clearly explain the noise and satellite imagery and radar scans didn't show signs of an explosion in the region.
The agency posted on X at the time a similar sentiment that is still being relayed today: 'We don't have an answer, and we can only hypothesize with you.'
It's the mythical creature that has captured the attention of people around the world for decades.
And now the search for the Loch Ness monster has been taken up a gear.
Shaun Sloggie, a seasoned Loch Ness skipper, was cruising across the loch when he spotted a mysterious shape on sonar.
While its source remains unclear, Sloggie, 30, admits he's 'never seen anything like it'.
'The strangeness of it was chilling – it's the sort of thing that leaves you speechless,' he said.

The sonar indicated that a large, object was lurking at a depth of around 98-metres, described by the stunned skipper as 'the biggest thing I've ever seen'
Slogg and maritime pilot Liam McKenzie, 29, were doing their usual rounds at Cruise Loch Ness when they stumbled upon the strange shape.
On September 22, 2024, while preparing for another vessel's arrival, Sloggie's sonar flashed up.
The sonar indicated that a large object was lurking at a depth of around 98-metres.
He described it as 'the biggest thing I've ever seen.'
With its elongated shape and distinct features hinting at air pockets, the team couldn't help but wonder if the sonar reading was tied to the infamous Loch Ness Monster.

Despite returning to the scene to investigate, the mysterious contact had vanished, leaving the team baffled.
Sloggie admitted: 'We're not sonar experts, but I've never seen anything like it.'
Spookily, the last major sonar contact in Loch Ness occurred almost exactly four years ago, on September 24, 2020.
The news comes shortly after a photographer revealed 'compelling' photographs of what she suggests is the mythical Loch Ness Monster, after keeping them a secret for five years.

Chie Kelly, 52, took the pictures of the creature from Scottish folklore half a decade ago but did not share them out of fear of public ridicule.
The first 15 images were revealed last year and now The Cryptid Factor podcast has released and analysed all 71 frames. It hoped that the photographs taken by Ms Kelly, who works as a translator, would spark debate in investigators around the world.
The images have been put into a video and appear to show something moving across the loch in the Highlands.
Despite many images of the so-called monster - including a famous photograph taken in 1934 by Colonel Robert Kenneth Wilson - proven to be fakes, it has not stopped tourists flocking to the area each year in hope of seeing the mythical beast.
Rumours of a strange creature living in the waters of Loch Ness have abounded over the decades, yet scant evidence has been found to back up these claims.
One of the first sightings, believed to have fuelled modern Nessie fever, came in May 2, 1933.
On this date the Inverness Courier carried a story about a local couple who claim to have seen 'an enormous animal rolling and plunging on the surface'.
Another famous claimed sighting is a photograph taken in 1934 by Colonel Robert Kenneth Wilson.
It was later exposed as a hoax by one of the participants, Chris Spurling, who, on his deathbed, revealed that the pictures were staged.
Other sightings James Gray's picture from 2001 when he and friend Peter Levings were out fishing on the Loch, while namesake Hugh Gray's blurred photo of what appears to be a large sea creature was published in the Daily Express in 1933.
Robert Kenneth Wilson, a London physician, captured arguably the most famous image of the Loch Ness Monster. The surgeon’s photograph was published in the Daily Mail on April 21, 1934 - however it was later proven to be a fake
The first reported sighting of the monster is said to have been made in AD565 by the Irish missionary St Columba when he came across a giant beast in the River Ness.
But no one has ever come up with a satisfactory explanation for the sightings - although in 2019, 'Nessie expert' Steve Feltham, who has spent 24 years watching the Loch, said he thought it was actually a giant Wels Catfish, native to waters near the Baltic and Caspian seas in Europe.
An online register lists more than 1,000 total Nessie sightings, created by Mr Campbell, the man behind the Official Loch Ness Monster Fan Club and is available at www.lochnesssightings.com.
So what could explain these mysterious sightings?
Many Nessie witnesses have mentioned large, crocodile-like scutes sitting atop the spine of the creature, leading some to believe an escaped amphibian may be to blame.
Native fish sturgeons can also weigh several hundred pounds and have ridged backs, which make them look almost reptilian.
Some believe Nessie is a long-necked plesiosaur - like an elasmosaur - that survived somehow when all the other dinosaurs were wiped out.
Others say the sightings are down to Scottish pines dying and flopping into the loch, before quickly becoming water-logged and sinking.
While submerged, botanical chemicals start trapping tiny bubbles of air.
Eventually, enough of these are gathered to propel the log upward as deep pressures begin altering its shape, giving the appearance of an animal coming up for air.

The asteroid that killed the dinosaurs was NOT alone: Scientists discover evidence that a second devastating space rock smashed into Earth 66 million years ago
It's well known that the reign of the dinosaurs came to an end when a giant asteroid smashed into Earth 66 million years ago.
But a new study suggests that this huge asteroid wasn't alone.
Scientists from Heriot Watt University have discovered evidence that a second devastating space rock smashed into Earth in the same year.
This second asteroid measured around 1,640ft (500 metres) wide, and struck Earth just off the coast of the Republic of Guinea in West Africa.
'The closest humans have come to seeing something like this is the 1908 Tunguska event, when a 50-metre asteroid entered Earth's atmosphere and exploded in the skies above Siberia,' said Dr Uisdean Nicholson, who led the study.

The first evidence of this second asteroid was uncovered in 2022, while Dr Nicholson and his team were studying seismic reflection data of the Atlantic Ocean's seabed.
The data revealed a depression measuring almost five miles (9km) deep, which the team suspected could be an asteroid impact crater.
Now, the researchers have taken new high-resolution, 3D seismic images of the depression, which have confirmed their suspicions.
The crater has been dubbed the Nadir Crater, and was carved out when an asteroid struck Earth around 66 million years ago – the same age as the dinosaur-killing asteroid.
'There are around 20 confirmed marine craters worldwide, and none of them has been captured in anything close to this level of detail. It's exquisite,' Dr Nicholson said.
Now, the researchers have taken new high-resolution, 3D seismic images of the depression, which have confirmed their suspicions
Scientists from Heriot Watt University have discovered evidence that a second devastating space rock smashed into Earth in the same year as the one that wiped out the dinosaurs
'Craters on the surface are usually heavily eroded and we can only see what is exposed, whereas craters on other planetary bodies usually only show the surface expression.
'These data allow us to image this fully in three dimensions and peel back the layers of sedimentary rock to look at the crater at all levels.'
Back in 2022, the researchers suggested that the asteroid would have been around 400 metres wide.
However, the new images confirm that it was even bigger than this.
Dr Nicholson said: 'We now think it was 450-500m wide, because of the larger crater size as shown by the 3D data.
'We can tell it came from about 20-40 degrees to the northeast, because of spiralling thrust-generated ridges surrounding the crater's central peak - those are only formed following a low-angle oblique impact.
'And we think it would have hit Earth at about 20 km per second, or 72,000 km per hour, although we still need to confirm this with a new set of impact models.'
This second asteroid measured around 1,640ft (500 metres) wide, and struck Earth just off the coast of the Republic of Guinea in West Africa (Nadir Crater, pictured)
Based on the data, the scientists have created a timeline of what they think happened – from the initial collision to an 800-metre-plus high tsunami that would have travelled across the Atlantic ocean.
'After the impact and the central uplift forming, the soft sediments surrounding the crater flowed inwards towards the evacuated crater floor, creating a visible "brim",' Dr Nicholson explained.
'The earthquake shaking caused by the impact appears to have liquefied the sediments below the seabed across the entire plateau, causing faults to form below the seabed.
'The impact was also associated with large landslides as the plateau margin collapsed below the ocean.
'As well as this, we see evidence for a train of tsunami waves going away from, then back towards the crater, with large resurge scars preserving evidence of this catastrophic event.'
While it's been 116 years since an asteroid like this has been seen, it likely won't be long before another huge space rock strikes our planet, according to NASA.
The US space agency predicts that asteroid Bennu has a one in 2,700 chance of smashing into Earth on 24 September 2182.
Vragen zonder antwoorden Het universum verbergt veel mysteries.
Danny Goler, a filmmaker, is working on the documentary “The Discovery“, in which he reveals a groundbreaking experiment that he believes could change everything we think we know about the universe. He claims that by projecting a diffracted laser onto a surface and ingesting DMT, you can see the code running through reality, strongly suggesting that we live in a digital world.
This experiment involves DMT, which led to an extraordinary discovery about reality. It reveals how DMT, a powerful hallucinogenic compound, became a tool for expanding their understanding of reality. They describe the intense visual phenomena that accompanied the experience, which appeared to reveal hidden layers of reality.
Danny said how they projected a laser on a surface while under the influence of DMT, which revealed what seemed to be patterns of code reminiscent of “The Matrix.” Multiple people were shown this phenomenon, and all reported seeing similar visuals, implying the experience was not purely subjective.
It reflects on two possible interpretations of this experience:
Losing their mind in a spectacular way.
Making one of the greatest discoveries of humankind, potentially supporting the idea that reality is a kind of simulation, like in “The Matrix.”
Historically, humans have tried to explore altered states of consciousness through psychedelics, but this experience, as described, represents a repeatable, observable phenomenon. Danny feels they’ve stumbled upon something profound, suggesting it could change the way people view reality.
The phenomenon of seeing “code” while using DMT evokes themes from the movie “The Matrix,” where reality is revealed to be a computer simulation. Danny strongly believes this discovery points toward the existence of something beyond our normal perception of reality
“Psychonauts” Training to Explore Another Dimension
There’s a study they did or it’s still going on where they’re giving a continuous drop of DMT to volunteers to see if they can map out the DMT realm. For several years, researchers have been developing an approach to extend the DMT experience to hours, or even days, by intravenously delivering the drug to carefully maintain its concentration in the brain. For science. And now, a Colorado organization called DMTx is training a dozen brave psychonauts to go on these deep journeys into innerspace.
Much of the theory behind DMTx comes from a 2016 paper in Frontiers in Physiology by Andrew Gallimore and Rick Strassman, in which the authors laid out a method to maintain a stable brain concentration of DMT using intravenous infusion. (Source)
“The phenomenological content of dream states and hallucinations in psychotic disorders have been studied extensively,” the authors wrote, “whilst the endogenous human hallucinogen DMT reliably and reproducibly generates one of the most unusual states of consciousness available, its phenomenology has only begun to be characterized.”
One of the psychonauts, Kevin Thorbahn, who’s been in DMTx’s program now for around four years since first tuning into the idea on that fateful late-night drive, thinks there are two types of people who are attracted to powerful psychedelics. (Source)
First, of course, there are those who like to party—dorm-room floor disciples. “And then there’s another type that look at it as more of an experiment,” he explains. They “want to explore and really understand these medicines at a deeper level.”
He identifies with that second group. And his hopes for exploring the DMT space and what he can bring back are ambitious. “We might have to download some sort of information from these experiences … how to better ourselves and better the planet,” he says.
One study says 94% of DMT Users Experience Similar Otherworldly ‘Beings.’
Researchers are studying N,N-dimethyltryptamine (DMT), a powerful psychedelic drug that changes consciousness. As more people use DMT and clinical trials begin, it’s essential to understand the intense experiences it causes. (Source)
DMT can make users feel like they’re in a hyper-real, otherworldly place, meeting beings that aren’t themselves. Previous lab studies were limited, and online surveys had flaws. This study aims to deeply analyze the profound experiences DMT produces, including encounters with unknown entities, to better understand its effects.
Researchers analyzed people’s experiences after taking DMT, a powerful psychedelic drug. They found that these experiences were invariably profound and highly intense.
Two main categories emerged from the study. First, 94% of participants reported encountering unknown “beings” or entities. They described the entities’ role, appearance, demeanor, communication, and interaction. Second, 100% of participants experienced entering other “worlds” or immersive spaces, describing the scene and contents.
The study reveals rich and intense details about these encounters, shedding light on the nuances of the DMT experience. Interestingly, these experiences draw parallels with other extraordinary events, such as alien abductions, folklore and mythology, shamanic experiences, and near-death experiences.
The researchers discuss the potential neural mechanisms behind these experiences and the promise of DMT as a psychotherapeutic agent. By exploring the intricacies of the DMT experience, scientists may uncover new avenues for healing and personal growth.

Could some craters on asteroids be the result of alien mining activities?
Could some craters on asteroids be the result of alien mining activities?
Where do asteroids and planets get all those craters? Countless small circular craters, plus almost always a few that look like massive killers. Even more confusing is that these craters are at a perfect 90º angle, as if an electric arc had run across the surface.
According to ThunderboltsProject, the Electric Universe (EU) model, the scars observed on asteroids are caused by electric arcs which cut surface depressions, scoop out material, accelerate it into space, then leave behind clean-cut geological relief.
This theory is supported by Electric Discharge Machining (EDM), a process we use every day to shape materials with electric arcs, producing similar clean-cut effects.
This brings us to the following hypothesis: Could it be that, instead of craters on asteroids being formed solely by natural space phenomena, that all these craters at a perfect 90º angle with clean-cut geological relief are the result of asteroid mining originated by alien races who use advanced electric arc/laser technology by extracting raw minerals they urgently need for use on their planet or for in-space manufacturing?
Asteroids vary greatly in composition, ranging from those rich in volatile substances to those composed of metals like gold, silver, platinum, cobalt, and palladium, alongside more common elements such as iron and nickel. This makes them potential treasure troves of valuable resources.
For us as Earthlings, asteroid mining is a technology in its earliest stages and requires significant advances in robotic technology before asteroid mining becomes a reality, however, if more advanced civilizations exist elsewhere in the universe, it's quite plausible that some of them have already turned to asteroid mining long ago.
Could their efforts be leaving behind the very craters on asteroids we observe today?

Exciting rumors have been swirling in the halls of astrobiology. The James Webb Space Telescope, which has been scrutinizing the cosmos in unprecedented detail since its deployment in 2022, has been on a tear lately, and folks in the know say it might finally have detected life beyond Earth. That’s the buzz, anyway. Says astrophysicist Rebecca Smethurst, as reported by The Spectator, “I think we are going to get a paper that has strong evidence for a biosignature on an exoplanet very, very soon.”
In other words: Awesome! But also: Calm down. “Strong evidence for a biosignature” is a long way from proof of life on other planets. A biosignature is basically a signal that’s consistent with life but that may also be produced by something else. It’s intriguing but not incontrovertible evidence. And given the many uncertainties surrounding a discipline still in its infancy, the public should not get its hopes up. “So many people want this to be the year. There will definitely be claims,” says Sara Seager, an MIT professor of astrophysics. “There won’t be any robust findings.”
One reason it’s hard to pin down unequivocal evidence of life is that we don’t really know what life is. Here on Earth, biology involves DNA and carbohydrates and requires liquid water, but the chemistry could be different on other worlds. Maybe life could use liquid methane instead of water, or silicon instead of carbon. So, in its most fundamental formulation, what is life all about, and how do we know what to look for?
One idea is that life must always exist far from chemical equilibrium. Earth’s atmosphere, for instance, contains both oxygen and methane. Left on their own, these molecules would react to form carbon dioxide and water, and in time the oxygen and methane would vanish. “The only reason they are present and coexist is that they keep being replenished by some process,” says NASA astrobiologist Marc Neveu. “In our case, it turns out to be life.”
So if you were looking at Earth from far away, the presence of methane and oxygen together would be a clue that life is operating here. But it wouldn’t be proof because these gases can be generated by non-biological causes.
Just because you can’t prove your evidence is incontrovertible, however, doesn’t mean your conclusion is wrong. By that measure, we might already have found alien life. That is to say, multiple pieces of evidence exist that we may someday recognize as the first glimmer of fact that we are not alone.
2004: Life on Mars
In December 2004, scientists reported that a spectrometer aboard the European Space Agency’s Mars Express orbiter had measured a tiny but detectable quantity of methane gas in the Red Planet’s atmosphere. That same year, astronomers using ground-based telescopes reported that they too had found signs of methane. On Earth, the gas is produced mostly by living things (including, famously, cow farts) but can also be produced as a result of seismic activity. “It’s widely thought that there are underground streams of liquid water,” says Neveu. “It’s certainly possible that there are microbes in this environment.”
2023: Life on Europa
Jupiter and Saturn, the largest planets, are too cold and too far from the Sun to harbor life as we currently know it. But several of their icy moons are believed to harbor oceans below their frozen surface. Kept warm by tidal forces, these oceans may be able to support life. Particularly interesting is Jupiter’s moon Europa. Last year, the Webb telescope detected carbon dioxide within a geologically young area of the surface, suggesting it might have come from an ocean.
2023: Life Beyond the Solar System
Astronomers have long assumed that stars outside our solar system have planets around them, but not until 1992 were the first ones discovered orbiting neutron stars. Now we know of more than 5,000, but we’ve had no evidence of whether any harbor life. Then, last fall, a team of U.S. and U.K. astronomers released a preprint saying they had detected methane, carbon dioxide, and maybe dimethyl sulfide, or DMS, around a star called K2-18b, which lies 124 light-years away. On Earth, DMS is produced by living organisms.
It’s an extremely tenuous finding, however. Exoplanets are so far away and so dim compared with the star they orbit that even the mighty Webb can’t image them directly. Instead, it waits for the planet to pass in front of the star and then detects a change in the intensity of the light received — in this case, on the infrared part of the spectrum, just beyond the range of human perception. Seagal is skeptical, saying that what the authors took to be a sign of DMS is really just a misinterpretation of the data. “There’s no signal,” she maintains.

Identifying biosignatures is nice, but it would be far more exciting to establish once and for all that extraterrestrial life definitely exists. One way to do that would be to detect a so-called technosignature, a gas that can be produced only artificially through the application of a sufficiently advanced technology. Nitrogen trifluoride, for instance, which is used on Earth in manufacturing, is not known to result from any known natural process. “It would be a more robust finding,” says Seager.
Failing that, the only way to prove the existence of a living thing is to go out and find it and study it up close — watch it metabolize, grow, and reproduce. That’s a tall order. Life on Venus, if it exists, is probably wafting around in the cooler reaches of the planet’s acid atmosphere, while Mars’s methane-belching microbes could be buried miles deep underground. The hardest of all to access would be any life sheltering around distant stars, the nearest of which would take at least 70,000 years to reach using current technology.
The oceans under icy moons may be easiest to get into. This October, NASA is planning to launch a probe called the Europa Clipper, which will swing through the clouds of ice grains Europa ejects through its geysers and see if it can detect the kinds of molecules we might expect if life exists in its subsurface oceans. If the signs are encouraging, they will likely light a fire to send a spacecraft to take a closer look. Last year, researchers in Germany announced they were working on a probe that could melt its way through the crust of an icy moon and explore the ocean below.
Seager is optimistic that the search for extraterrestrial life will ultimately be successful — just not perhaps with the kind of speed people would like to see. She cites the example of the discovery of exoplanets, which seemed exotic and somewhat dubious when the first hints of them were uncovered three decades ago. By analogy, the signs of alien life that first appear will start out being doubtful and rare before becoming ironclad and common.
Neveu agrees that it will take patience. “I think it’s going to be a gradual process,” he says. “Maybe it’s already started.”

Ancient Aliens: Mind-Blowing Proof of Alien DNA Found on Earth
Earth and the Moon – A Distant View Taken on September 18, 1977, Voyager 1 became the first spacecraft to capture both Earth and its Moon in a single frame. At a distance of 7.25 million miles from Earth, this iconic image shows the Moon floating beyond our home planet, emphasizing the vastness of space.1
Jupiter's Great Red Spot In early 1979, Voyager 1 provided a close-up of Jupiter’s Great Red Spot, a storm larger than Earth. This swirling mass of clouds, first observed centuries ago, gave scientists new insight into Jupiter’s turbulent atmosphere, thanks to the detailed images captured by Voyager.
Active Volcanism on Io During its flyby of Jupiter's moon Io, Voyager 1 discovered something unprecedented-active volcanoes. This was the first observation of volcanic activity on another celestial body besides Earth. Voyager detected plumes erupting miles into space, revealing Io’s fiery surface.
Saturn's Breathtaking Rings Voyager 1 reached Saturn in 1980, capturing stunning images of its intricate ring system. Saturn’s rings, composed of countless ice and rock particles, revealed a beauty never before seen. Voyager even discovered a new, faint G-ring and enigmatic spokes in the B-ring.2
Titan's Hazy Atmosphere As Voyager 1 flew past Saturn's largest moon, Titan, it detected a thick atmosphere primarily composed of nitrogen. Titan's opaque haze left its surface hidden, fueling speculation about the moon's geological secrets. This image offered a glimpse into one of the most mysterious moons in our solar system.
The Pale Blue Dot Perhaps the most famous image Voyager 1 ever captured is the “Pale Blue Dot,” taken on February 14, 1990, from 3.7 billion miles away. In this image, Earth appears as a tiny speck, less than a pixel in size, suspended in a sunbeam. Carl Sagan's reflections on this image remind us of our small place in the vast universe.
Close-up of Europa Voyager 1 also flew by Jupiter's moon Europa, capturing images of its icy surface. The close-up showed evidence of potential subsurface oceans, raising the possibility of life beneath its frozen crust. These images set the stage for future missions to study Europa more closely.
Voyager 1's Family Portrait of the Solar System In 1990, Voyager 1 captured a family portrait of the solar system from beyond Pluto. This composite image includes six planets: Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Earth, and Venus. It’s a striking reminder of our solar system’s expanse and the spacecraft’s journey far from home.
Saturn's Moons – Tethys, Dione, and Rhea Voyager 1 captured images of Saturn's moons Tethys, Dione, and Rhea in 1980, showcasing their cratered surfaces and icy landscapes. These moons, though small, are integral parts of Saturn's complex system of rings and satellites.
The F Ring of Saturn One of the discoveries made by Voyager 1 was the narrow, braided F ring of Saturn. This stunning image shows the intricacies of the ring's structure, including its twists and clumps, revealing a dynamic system shaped by gravitational interactions with Saturn's moons.
Entering Interstellar Space In 2012, Voyager 1 became the first human-made object to enter interstellar space, crossing the heliopause-the boundary between the solar wind and interstellar medium. The spacecraft's data showed a steep drop in solar particles and a rise in cosmic rays, confirming this historic milestone.
Voyager 1 carries the Golden Record, a 12-inch disc containing sounds and images from Earth. This record, curated by Carl Sagan and his team, serves as a message to any intelligent life that might find it, showcasing humanity's diversity and curiosity.
Beyond the Solar System Voyager 1's journey continues today, traveling at 38,000 miles per hour into interstellar space. Though its power is diminishing, the data it sends back from beyond the solar system gives us unprecedented insight into the universe beyond the Sun's influence.
Conclusion Voyager 1's images, from the close-up of Jupiter's Great Red Spot to the distant Pale Blue Dot, have changed our understanding of the cosmos. As it continues its journey through interstellar space, this remarkable spacecraft reminds us of humanity's quest for discovery beyond the stars.

With UFO sightings on the rise, the incident has captured the attention of both researchers and the general public, who are eager to know the mysteries behind these strange events. Following the sightings, local authorities and experts were flooded with inquiries, yet no clear explanation has been provided to the public.
The sighting was initially reported by a Scottsdale resident who was out for an evening walk with their dog. Describing the object as a luminous cigar shaped UFO, the object moved in an unusual manner, going up and down without making any sound. Witnesses reported the UFO hovered in the night sky for over 30 minutes.
As per the Instagram page, the witness stated, “Filmed on my iPhone 13 Pro, I was taking my dog for a walk back to my apartment and saw a weird blue light. It looked like a rope hanging in the sky and going up and down. It was taller than the planes passing by, we may have an airport nearby, so planes are very common. He hung up and down for 30 minutes and then fell, I lost my sight.” Meanwhile, sharing the video, the page wrote, “F-15 Fighter flying close to a UFO in Scottsdale, Arizona.”
While some social media users were intrigued by the mysterious blue object, others chose to add humour into the situation. A user asked, “F15 Fighter flying at commercial jet speed? How can you distinguish the airplane model from so far away that you can’t even zoom in?”
Another recommended that the blue object looked like a “Balloon.”
An individual wrote, “Very rare UFO worm type.”
“After this new series the 3 Bodies Problem I got fleas behind my ear,” a comment read.
Another wrote, “It’s Luke’s lightsaber, he threw it out so hard, just went through here in my town.”
A user joked, “It’s Goku in blue form.”
According to reports from 12 News, Arizona ranks among the top states in the US for UFO sightings, based on data from the National UFO Reporting Center. Since 1974, the organisation has collected information from around the globe regarding unidentified lights and objects observed in the sky. Among the 170,000 reports, nearly 5,000 originated from Arizona alone. Many of these cases were registered by pilots or military personnel. However, none could be compared to the Phoenix Lights. On March 13, 1997, a majority of Phoenix residents saw lights shaped like a V in the sky, till now there’s no explanation regarding the incident.

Geoscientists Discover Mysterious Subduction Zone beneath Pacific Ocean
During the Mesozoic era, between 250 and 120 million years ago, an ancient seafloor sank deep into Earth in the East Pacific Rise, a tectonic plate boundary on the floor of the southeastern Pacific Ocean, says a team of geoscientists from the University of Maryland and the University of Alberta.

University of Maryland researcher Jingchuan Wang and colleagues used innovative seismic imaging techniques to peer deep into Earth’s mantle, the layer between our planet’s crust and core.
They found an unusually thick area in the mantle transition zone, a region located between about 410 and 660 km below the Earth’s surface.
The zone separates the upper and lower mantles, expanding or contracting based on temperature.
The newly-discovered seafloor may also explain the anomalous structure of the Pacific Large Low Shear Velocity Province (LLSVP) — a massive region in Earth’s lower mantle — as the LLSVP appears to be split by the slab.
“This thickened area is like a fossilized fingerprint of an ancient piece of seafloor that subducted into the Earth approximately 250 million years ago,” Dr. Wang said.
Recent findings by scientists reveal an ancient seafloor that complicates current theories of Earth’s interior, discovered through pioneering seismic imaging that highlights unusual mantle activities.

“It’s giving us a glimpse into Earth’s past that we’ve never had before.”
Subduction occurs when one tectonic plate slides beneath another, recycling surface material back into Earth’s mantle.
The process often leaves visible evidence of movement, including volcanoes, earthquakes and deep marine trenches.
While geologists typically study subduction by examining rock samples and sediments found on Earth’s surface.
By examining how seismic waves traveled through different layers of Earth, the researchers were able to create detailed mappings of the structures hiding deep within the mantle.
“You can think of seismic imaging as something similar to a CT scan. It’s basically allowed us to have a cross-sectional view of our planet’s insides,” Dr. Wang said.
“Usually, oceanic slabs of material are consumed by the Earth completely, leaving no discernible traces on the surface.”
“But seeing the ancient subduction slab through this perspective gave us new insights into the relationship between very deep Earth structures and surface geology, which were not obvious before.”
What the authors found surprised them: material was moving through Earth’s interior much more slowly than previously thought.

The unusual thickness of the area they discovered suggests the presence of colder material in this part of the mantle transition zone, hinting that some oceanic slabs get stuck halfway down as they sink through the mantle.

“We found that in this region, the material was sinking at about half the speed we expected, which suggests that the mantle transition zone can act like a barrier and slow down the movement of material through the Earth,” Dr. Wang said.
“Our discovery opens up new questions about how the deep Earth influences what we see on the surface across vast distances and timescales.”
The results were published in the journal Science Advances.

Mars' rusty red surface may have given it its famous "Red Planet" status, but it would also appear that thousands of white rocks are strangely littered on the Martian ground. NASA's Perseverance rover, a robotic geologist that has been exploring the Jezero Crater since early 2021, puzzled scientists when it delivered images of over 4,000 light-toned, pebble-sized rocks scattered all over the crater floor.
"These are very unusual rocks and we're trying to figure out what's been going on," Candice Bedford, a planetary scientist at Purdue University in Indiana and a member of the Mars 2020 science team, said at the Lunar and Planetary Science Conference (LSPC) last month.
The announcement comes as NASA wraps up an architectural review of returning Martian rocks to Earth as part of the agency's ambitious Mars Sample Return (MSR) program.

The imaged white rocks are what scientists refer to as "floats," meaning they have been removed and transported from their original habitats; some are smooth with pits while others appear to be an amalgamation of multiple layers. Initial analyses, conducted with Perseverance's onboard instruments, revealed the rocks are dehydrated — not only in water content, but also in other minerals including iron, magnesium, calcium and sodium. "These are pretty depleted in a lot of things," Bedford said.
The team is particularly interested in the origins of these unusual rocks as their sources can reveal clues about the Red Planet's past, including precisely when water would've flooded the Jezero crater, which we see as an arid stretch of land today. Despite spotting more than 4,000 such rocks, Perseverance hasn't managed to see even a hint of what's known as an "outcrop" related to the rocks, which is essentially a bedrock of similar properties that'd jut out of the Martian surface.
The rocks' dehydrated nature suggests they were heated and metamorphosed by either lava flows or asteroid impacts elsewhere on Mars and later dumped onto the crater floor, said Bedford. Whatever the specific process may have been, she and her team suspect it would have occurred relatively recently in terms of Jezero Crater's geologic history.
The Perseverance rover, which has driven more than 15 miles (24.8 kilometers) since its arrival on Mars, celebrated 1,000 days of science last December, which also marked the official completion of the mission it was originally designed to do. It has now filled 26 of its 43 Mars rock sample tubes, mission team members shared at LPSC. "Each sample has innumerable grains that we could potentially study for forever, essentially," said Benjamin Weiss, a professor of planetary sciences at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a member of the Mars 2020 team.
As part of a bonus mission that kicked off this spring, Bedford said Perseverance began inching its way toward the Jezero Crater rim, and its long-distance camera has already imaged more light-toned rocks scattered in that area as well.
All of these puzzling rocks, however, are not the only reason why scientists are eager to get Perseverance to the crater rim and possibly beyond. There, they believe a unique geology exists, one that hasn't yet been encountered within the crater floor. That includes pre-Jezero rocks that may have records of the formation of Mars' crust and early climate. It may even hold evidence of biosignatures.
Scientists are currently tagging a variety of interesting sampling locations while mapping the rim itself in more detail, said Lisa Mayhew, a research associate at the University of Colorado, Boulder. Of much interest to scientists is a terrain adjacent to Jezero crater called Nili Planum, whose rocks they think would have formed in warm conditions during a time when life most likely evolved — if it ever existed on the now-barren world, that is. Sampling such rocks "would provide huge added scientific value to the cache that's already existing on Perseverance," said Mayhew.
That scientific value, however, can only be fully realized after those rocks are returned to Earth.
Scientists need to time-date them using equipment on Earth, without which they wouldn't have a precise timeline for when the Red Planet was habitable and when it became parched. "It doesn't overstate to say it will revolutionize our understanding of Mars," said Weiss.
Questions remain about the MSR program, which NASA is spearheading, including when and how the agency plans to return collected samples to Earth. Last October, NASA commissioned a response team (MIRT) to evaluate alternative approaches to MSR after an independent review board (IRB) found the current architecture would lead to overruns in cost and schedule.
"Much of the work is already complete," said Meenakshi Wadhwa, a planetary scientist at Arizona State University and MSR's principal scientist. The MIRT's recommendation report for a new approach was expected by the end of March, followed by a revised plan and budget by NASA sometime in April, she said.
The agency's fiscal year 2025 budget proposal, made public March 11, allocated $2.7 billion for planetary science but the funding for MSR remained "TBD." NASA's budget this year and next will be announced in April after the MIRT review is completed, NASA Administrator Bill Nelson told reporters at the time.

'UK Roswell' UFO debris analysis blows alien mystery open as 'hybrid tech didn't exist'
Fresh tests on metal debris found at the Europe's Roswell UFO crash site in Wales more than 40 years ago reveals that whatever hit those trees in 1983 was made with metals unavailable at the time
New revelations on a 40-year-old incident ignite the alien life mystery

Fresh analysis of debris found at the site where an unfamiliar flying craftcrashed into trees decades ago blows open the question of whether or not aliens really do exist.
In January 1983, an object flying through the air hit trees near the small Welsh village of Llanilar, near Aberystwyth in the middle of the night.
Before it flew off seemingly undamaged, it scattered metal detritus across four fields.
Now 40 years on, new analysis of this metal ignites the debate of extraterrestrial lifeforms with startling revelations.
In an update on his recent book from Flying Disk Press, Europe's Roswell: 40 Years Since Impact, Mark Olly, a UFO expert and author, reveals evidence that suggests the object that hit the trees was from another planet, or at least not Earthly.
Olly wrote that The Wales Federation of Independent Ufologists "recovered about half a dozen pieces of metal and foil from the wooded area adjacent to the fields".
Three debris samples collected from the site, and looked after by fellow UFO expert Gary Rowe since, were sent to labs in Australia and America for new testing.
While Olly wrote that it had previously been believed that all the metal found was the same, the new analysis proved otherwise.
He noted: "Australia came in first as ‘Aluminums Foam’, partially agreeing with British Aerospace who back-in-the-day thought it was Aluminum in the form of Duralumin. America then returned their analysis as almost pure Lanthanum, an exotic and extremely expensive to produce metal on the new part of the periodic table."
Not only were the metals different, both Aluminum Foam and Lanthanum were not in circulation in 1983.
Olly wrote: "So we had two different metals in unique and specific forms that were not known to have been developed by the late 1970’s or available for actual use back in 1983. So was it one of ours, was it one of ‘theirs’, or was it some kind of back-engineered or hybrid technology?"
Further tests on the grey "resin" adhesives, the "none-aerodynamic green paint" found on the Aluminum, the "strange green rubber honeycomb coating" over the Lanthanum were inconclusive, whole the "honeycombed metal foil" was not analysed.
