Dit is ons nieuw hondje Kira, een kruising van een waterhond en een Podenko. Ze is sinds 7 februari 2024 bij ons en druk bezig ons hart te veroveren. Het is een lief, aanhankelijk hondje, dat zich op een week snel aan ons heeft aangepast. Ze is heel vinnig en nieuwsgierig, een heel ander hondje dan Noleke.

I read, with interest, the piece in the Independent [about Mark Chorvinsky's Grim Reaper research]. It reminded me of an experience my wife and I had a few years ago. About five years ago my wife, children and I were driving down the A1 on a dark winter’s night, returning to our h…ome in Hertfordshire after a weekend visit to my wife’s parents in North Nottinghamshire. The children were asleep in the back of the car. Near Peterborough, at about 10 P.M. on a very empty road, we saw a dark cowled figure walking — moving might be a better word — north, on the very edge of the carriageway, towards us. We passed very close by this figure. It resembled a monk in full robes and hood made of some dark material. We did not really see the face, which seemed to be in shadow and indistinct. After passing it I looked in the rear view mirror, but could not see it again.
Both my wife and I felt a strange sense of unease and menace, and in fact my wife urged me not to look back. We discussed it — only very briefly as we both felt disturbed by this figure, and we both felt it was not something totally natural. The obvious possibility was that it was a broken down motorist, but we had not, and did not, pass any stopped cars. This is a fairly lonely stretch of road and it is unlikely that any locals would be walking along it at that time of the night — or at all as walking on the edge of what is one of the busiest and fastest dual carriageways in the country is not exactly encouraged. Also, there was the question of the figure’s dress and the fact that I could not see it in the rearview mirror.
For some reason we never really discussed this in depth subsequently — we did not feel inclined to — and in fact never mentioned it until about a year ago, when, prompted by a TV program, our children asked us if we had ever seen a ghost. We told them we were not sure, but had seen this strange figure…. Also, by some sort of unspoken agreement, we always use the M1 now when returning from the north at night!
Une lumière mystérieuse a été capturée sur Mars par le rover Curiosity. Une des images, prise le 3 avril 2014, montre une sorte de faisceau à l'arrière-plan. Depuis que ce flash de lumière semblant provenir du sol a été photographié par Curiosity, et suite à la révélation d'un bloggeur, l'ensemble de la presse mondiale s'est emparée de ce sujet.
Tous les médias ont relayé l'affaire "du faisceau lumineux sur Mars". Les sites Web d'information prennent ce prétexte pour écrire sur ce sujet et disent en chœur que cela fait le Buzz parmi les fans d'OVNI, ce qui n'est d'ailleurs pas certain, d'abord parce que si les journalistes du monde entier avaient les yeux rivés sur les sites ufologiques, ça se saurait et on parlerait beaucoup plus souvent de ce qui est posté sur les fameux sites.
La vérité est que les personnes qui n'étaient auparavant pas informées sur cet événement et qui, pour la plupart d'entre elles, ne s'intéressaient pas à ce sujet, savent maintenant qui 'il s'est passé sur Mars quelque chose qui n'est pas la chose qu'ils ignoraient...avant !
De certains prestigieux magazines américains aux quotidiens régionaux en France, nul n'y échappe, et comme la NASA n'a bien entendu pas confirmé qu'il s'agissait de martiens, l'occasion est donnée d'en remettre une seconde couche. On peut lire que les officiels indiquent que de tels faisceaux de lumière sont courants (là je fais un jeu de mots), sans pour autant indiquer sur quelles images on peut les voir habituellement !
Ce qui est vrai est que le flash de lumière a été photographié par l'une des deux caméras jumelles NavCam, qui prennent des images en noir et blanc, exactement le 3 avril 2014 à 10:00:03. Et comme il n'y a pas de flash lumineux sur la photo prise par l'autre NavCam au même moment, le sujet promet d'être très controversé. D'autant que sur le Houston Chronicle, on apprend "que moins d'une seconde sépare les deux images". Ce qui, compte tenu de la vitesse d'une prise de vue, ne risque pas d'apaiser le débat.
L'explication donnée pour la lumière photographiée est le reflet du soleil sur la surface d'une roche ou un rayon cosmique frappant le détecteur de la caméra. Sans être spécialiste, on peut, en zoomant l'image et devant l'absence de symétrie, déduire que la lumière n'est vraisemblablement pas un faisceau. Plutôt un reflet au sol, ou celui d'un objet. A partir de là, on entre dans l'épineux sujet des Objets Volants Non Identifiés et des deux clans opposés.
Le problème est qu'une autre image, prise le même jour, montre une forme qui pourrait bien être celle d'un OVNI.
Pas si loin de l'image de la lumière du faisceau, prise exactement par Curisotity à 10:01:05. Quelque chose de blanc apparaît dans le ciel de la planète rouge et passe devant les collines martiennes. Par hypothèse (je prends des précautions) il est donc possible d'imaginer (c'est juste une idée) que le "faisceau" de la première image pourrait être cet OVNI décollant de Mars la minute précédente (je n'ai rien dit).
Là encore, on ne voit pas d'OVNI sur l'image correspondante de l'autre camera NavCam prise "à moins d'une seconde de l'autre". Les faits sont qu'il y a deux photos avec chacune une étrangeté à l'arrière-plan, et que ces images peuvent être ajoutées aux nombreuses autres, notamment à celle d'un autre OVNI photographié fin janvier 2014.

Vlak voordat de Boeing 777 van Malaysian Airlines op 8 maart van de radar verdween heeft de copiloot van vlucht MH370 nog geprobeerd een telefoontje te plegen. Dat hebben bronnen rond het onderzoek tegen de New Straits Times gezegd. Volgens hen maakte het mobieltje van Fariq Abdul Hamid contact met een zendmast toen het vliegtuig laag in de buurt van het Maleisische eiland Penang vloog.
Voordat het signaal naar een volgende zendmast kon worden gestuurd om een daadwerkelijk telefoongesprek te laten plaatsvinden, was de verbinding alweer verbroken. “De telecomtoren verwerkte het telefoontje dat hij probeerde te maken,” aldus de ingewijden. “Waarschijnlijk werd de verbinding toen verbroken omdat het toestel snel wegvloog van de toren en geen volgende toren bereikte.”
Het laatste telefoongesprek dat Hamid wel voerde, was twee uur voor de vlucht van Kuala Lumpur richting Beijing. Hij belde toen met iemand die hij wel vaker telefonisch sprak. Vlak voordat hij aan boord ging, stuurde hij nog een WhatsApp-berichtje.
Volgens experts kunnen mobiele telefoons verbinding maken als een vliegtuig lager vliegt dan 7000 voet. Na de aanslagen op 11 september 2001 werd gezegd dat sommige passagiers tijdens de kapingen via hun mobiele telefoon contact konden maken met bekenden, waardoor gegevens over de daders bekend werden.
Jarenlang hielden de Amerikaanse overheid en de media vol dat vanuit de vermeende gekaapte toestellen telefoontjes waren gepleegd vanaf een hoogte van 30.000 voet. Openbaar aanklager Ted Olson vertelde aan CNN dat zijn vrouw Barbara, die aan boord zou zijn geweest van Vlucht 77, hem op 11 september 2001 twee keer had gebeld en dat ze enkele minuten hadden gesproken.
In 2003 toonde dr. A.K. Dewdney na een serie experimenten aan dat mobiele telefoongesprekken vanuit vliegtuigen op een hoogte van 1000 voet ‘extreem onwaarschijnlijk’ zijn. Dewdney stelde de maximale hoogte waarop een mobiele telefoon contact kan maken met een zendmast vast op 7000 voet. Op het moment dat Olson met zijn vrouw zou hebben gesproken, vloog Vlucht 77 volgens de officiële route op een hoogte van 35.000 voet.
In 2006 bevestigde de FBI dat Barbara Olson op 9/11 één telefoontje probeerde te plegen, maar geen verbinding kreeg. De FBI geeft nu toe dat 13 van de 15 zogenaamde telefoongesprekken tussen passagiers en bekenden op 9/11 nooit hebben plaatsgevonden. Het is technisch gezien onmogelijk dat sommige passagiers via hun mobiele telefoon gegevens van de zogenaamde daders hebben doorgegeven.
De Amerikaanse financier en oprichter van muziekdeelsite LimeWire Mark Gorton heeft een aantal essays verspreid waarin hij stelt dat 9/11 het werk is geweest van een meedogenloze geheime Cabal, het grootste misdaadsyndicaat in de Verenigde Staten. Deze groep zit volgens Gorton ook achter de moord op John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King, senator Paul Wellstone en honderden andere Amerikanen.
Sinds 9/11 hebben doodseskaders volgens Gorton diverse getuigen, politici, advocaten en journalisten gedood die de waarheid over de aanslagen naar buiten probeerden te brengen, waaronder getuigen Katherine Smith, dr. David Graham, Kenneth Johannemann, Bertha Champagne en Barry Jennings en de journalisten Hunter S. Thompson en Philip Marshall. Heeft dezelfde Cabal opnieuw toegeslagen en vlucht MH370 gekaapt?
Volgens een ervaren piloot uit Iran is het onacceptabel dat de autoriteiten zeggen dat de Boeing 777 is verdwenen, omdat de meeste vliegtuigen een Air Traffic Control (ATC) transponder aan boord hebben. Piloot Alireza Mortezazadeh van Iran Aseman Airlines legde uit dat met deze transponder een code wordt verstuurd naar luchtverkeersleiders met de locatie van het vliegtuig, de hoogte en het vluchtnummer.
Als deze transponder is uitgeschakeld, kan het vliegtuig nog steeds worden gezien op de radar. Er wordt dan alleen geen informatie meer verstuurd van het vliegtuig naar de luchtverkeerstorens, aldus Mortezazadeh. Hij voegde toe dat er gelijk actie wordt ondernomen op het moment dat een transponder geen signalen meer verstuurt.
Zelfs als de tranponder is uitgeschakeld en een vliegtuig niet meer op de radar verschijnt, wordt het nog steeds op de militaire radar opgevangen. Mortezazadeh is dan ook van mening dat de verklaring van de luchtvaartindustrie onacceptabel is. Hij benadrukte dat de Maleisische autoriteiten belangrijke informatie achterhouden.

De Amerikaanse geoloog en bouwkundige Phil Schneider zocht de controverse op door te stellen dat de Amerikaanse overheid samenwerkte met een buitenaards wezen van Venus. Het wezen, Valiant Thor geheten, zou er menselijk uitzien, maar in een aantal opzichten sterk van ons verschillen. Hij zou in de jaren vijftig zijn ingehuurd door de Amerikaanse overheid.
Schneider stuitte naar eigen zeggen op deze informatie omdat hij toegang had tot geheime overheidsprojecten. Hij hielp bij de bouw van ondergrondse legerbases en werkte in het beroemde Area 51. Er zijn maar weinig mensen die zich zo expliciet hebben uitgesproken over buitenaardsen als Schneider. Al deze mensen zijn blootgesteld aan publieke hoon. Er zijn ook veel mensen die Schneider geloven, zoals Gordon Duff van de website Veterans Today.
Schneider werd op 17 januari 1996 onder verdachte omstandigheden dood aangetroffen. Velen denken dat hij om het leven is gebracht, alhoewel hij volgens de lijkschouwer zelfmoord heeft gepleegd.
Schneider is niet de enige die heeft gezegd dat hij Thor heeft ontmoet. Dr. Frank Stranges schreef in zijn boek Stranger at the Pentagon over zijn vermeende ontmoeting met Thor. Tijdens een lezing in 1995 toonde Schneider een foto van de man die hij Thor noemde.
Volgens Schneider werkte Thor al sinds 1937 voor het Amerikaanse leger. Thor had aan iedere hand zes vingers, een buitenproportioneel groot hoofd, één long, koperoxide in zijn bloed en een extreem hoog IQ (dat werd geschat op 1200). Verder zou Thor 100 talen spreken (waaronder buitenaardse talen) en zou hij gezegd hebben dat hij 490 jaar oud kon worden.
Dr. Stranges stelde dat Thor zowel president Dwight D. Eisenhower als president Richard Nixon heeft ontmoet. Ook voormalig overheidsadviseur Timothy Good zei dat president Eisenhower diverse ontmoetingen had met buitenaardsen.
Last Sunday night the Dutch current affairs programme Brandpunt (equivalent of 60 Minutes), which is aired on the Dutch public broadcasting organization KRO, covered the UFO topic (which included investigative journalist Leslie Kean, Captain Ray Bowyer, retired Major General Wilfried De Brouwer, Jose Laye (director of CEFAA)). The coverage was short; however, it was treated in a positive and serious manner which doesn't happen that often in the mainstream (national) media. I suspect the diehard skeptics (ideological debunkers) were on leave ;) because they justly didn't appear in the coverage. Below you can watch the programme which is not entirely in English.
Aflevering KRO Brandpunt met Coen Vermeeren over buitenaards bezoek
Zondagavond in KRO Brandpunt om 22.35 op Nederland 2 is Coen Vermeeren te gast geweest. Coen Vermeeren is auteur van het boek Ufo’s bestaan gewoon, uitgegeven door Uitgeverij AnkhHermes. Vanavond in de aflevering gaat het over buitenaards bezoek. Het is zo’n onderwerp dat meestal lacherig wordt besproken en vaker nog belachelijk wordt gemaakt: het bestaan van UFO’s. Vliegende schotels. Maar de afgelopen jaren zijn er alleen al in Nederland zes meldingen geweest van de luchtverkeerleiding en van piloten die een object hebben gezien waarvan ze niet weten wat het is. Aart Zeeman over de vraag of we al jaren worden bezocht door buitenaardsen of dat het gewoon een onbegrepen aards fenomeen is. ‘Verstandige’ mensen geloven niet in ufo’s. Geïnformeerde mensen weten dat dit ook niet meer hoeft; ufo’s bestaan namelijk gewoon. Er is inmiddels zoveel over bekend dat ontkennen niet alleen zinloos, maar ook buitengewoon naïef is. Wetenschapper Coen Vermeeren pleit met Ufo’s bestaan gewoon voor meer wetenschappelijke openheid en debat. Ufo’s bestaan en dat heeft grote consequenties. De wetenschap is volledig overtuigd van het bestaan van buitenaards leven, maar niet dat andere beschavingen ons zouden kunnen bereiken. Ondertussen bestaan er wel, naast officiële rapporten, vele duizenden betrouwbare getuigenverslagen en beelden van ufo’s. Waarom praten we er dan niet over? Is het angst – voor buitenaardsen of om bespot te worden? Hoe het ook zij, Coen Vermeeren vindt dat er onterecht weinig serieuze aandacht is voor dit belangrijke onderwerp. Ufo’s bestaan gewoon is zijn eerste stap in de richting van een open discussie. Een uitgebreid boek met gedegen informatie over onbekende vliegende objecten, hun bestuurders en hoe de wereld hiermee omgaat. Ufo’s bestaan gewoon draait om de vragen: wat valt er te zien, wie hebben wat gezien en hoe betrouwbaar zijn die gegevens? Daarnaast is er de kwestie van de wereldwijde cover-up: is die er echt, en waarom? Vermeeren gaat in op belangrijke ufo-ijkpunten als Roswell, de ufo- golf in België en de relatie tussen ufo’s en nucleaire wapens. Ook getuigenissen van astronauten, militairen, piloten en zelfs Amerikaanse presidenten komen aan bod. Vermeeren is niet bang om te speculeren over de belangrijke vraag waaróm ufo’s hier komen. ‘Hoewel we al vele jaren horen over onbekende objecten in ons luchtruim, brengt Vermeerens uitdagende overzicht van wat we hierover weten en niet weten ons tot een belangrijke conclusie: we moeten de vele getuigen serieus nemen en onze wetenschappers hier onderzoek naar laten doen’. Japan staat versteld van ‘kersenboom uit de ruimte’
Japanse wetenschappers staan versteld van de natuur. Een kersenboom is daar zes jaar te vroeg begonnen met bloeien. Dat is nog maar het begin van het mysterie. De vroege bloei zorgt voor veel vraagtekens bij de boeddhisten van de tempel waar de boom groeit en bij wetenschappers die de boom bestuderen.
De kersenpit waaruit de boom is ontstaan heeft in 2008 een ruimtereis gemaakt. De Japanse astronaut Koichi Wakata nam 264 kersenpitten mee naar het internationale ruimtestation ISS. De pit verbleef acht maanden aan boord van het ruimtestation en heeft 4100 rondjes om de aarde gemaakt.
Na de ruimtereis werd een aantal pitjes geanalyseerd in een laboratorium. Het bewuste pitje werd geplant bij de Ganjoji-tempel in de buurt van de Japanse stad Gifu. De pit was afkomstig van een hele oude boom die nog nooit nakomelingen had opgeleverd. Vier jaar terug begon er voor het eerst sinds 1250 jaar een boom te groeien uit de pit.
Normaal gesproken duurt het tenminste 10 jaar voordat deze soort begint te bloeien. De boom is inmiddels vier meter hoog. Ook andere ‘ruimtepitten’ doen het erg goed. In Hokuto is een andere boom begonnen met bloeien, twee jaar eerder dan verwacht.
Kaori Tomita-Yokotani van de Universiteit van Tsukuba reageerde verbaasd op het buitenaardse mysterie. “We kunnen niet uitsluiten dat de pitten op de één of andere manier zijn beïnvloed door het verblijf in de ruimte,” zei ze. Mogelijk versnelt de blootstelling aan kosmische straling het groeiproces. Vanuit wetenschappelijk oogpunt kunnen we alleen maar zeggen dat we niet weten wat de reden is, aldus plantenfysioloog Tomita-Yokotani.
Afgelopen donderdag sprak gezagvoerder Wakata vanuit het ISS met de Japanse minister-president Shinzo Abe en de Amerikaanse ambassadeur in Japan Caroline Kennedy:

George and Edith Snitowski, of Queens, New York, had traveled by car to Cincinnati Ohio, to visit a relative. They were on their return trip, leisurely taking the secondary roa…ds. Around 8 p.m. they entered Braxton County and traveled along what is now State Route 4. Between Gassaway and Frametown, their car died without warning. They could not restart the engine. While George tried to figure out the problem, the air around them filled with a sickening smell that seemed like a combination of ether and burnt sulfur. At first George thought the car engine might be burning but that was not the source. The smell agitated their baby, who began crying. As darkness settled in, George was in a quandary. Frametown, the nearest town, was about twelve miles away, too far away for a practical walk. Besides, he was reluctant to leave his wife and infant alone in the car. Suddenly a blinding violet light shot out of the woods. George opened a widow and the interior of the car filled with a choking, nauseating mist. Despite the smell, he got out to investigate, retching violently. About two hundred to three hundred yards away was a luminescent spheroid that looked like a giant frosted street lamp. It floated in the air and moved back and forth. George walked closer, still sick. He began to feel hot, and then felt a sensation like low-grade electric shock course through his body. Now frightened, he turned to hurry back to the car, but his legs turned rubbery and he fell repeatedly. Then he heard Edith scream. It was a blood-curdling scream, like a “banshee”. He lurched back to the car, where he saw a huge figure illuminated in the light from the spheroid. It was about eight to nine feet tall and shaped like a man but with a reptilian head. It had shoulders, a weirdly bloated bloody, and a lower torso that seemed to be a solid mass of some sort. George scrambled into the car and pushed his wife and child onto the floor. He grabbed a knife out of the glove compartment. The creature moved closer until it was directly in front of the car. It reached out a spindly arm that ended in a soft bisected fork of “fingers” and ran it across the windshield and hood, as though it was examining the car. Then it turned and glided into the woods, disappearing from sight. Within a few minutes a globe of light rose slowly above the trees and moved into the sky, suddenly shooting away in a trail of brilliant light. Badly shaken, George tried the ignition again, and this time the car started without a problem. They drove until they reached a truck stop diner, probably near Sutton, and went inside to compose themselves. They resolved not to talk about what happened. They then found a hotel and spent the night. The next morning, George found a forked discoloration on the hood of his car where the entity had touched it. The metal looked like it had been singed.

However, after little investigation, many discover that there is ample evidence that supports these occurrences. In fact, since the late 1950s, there have been millions of alleged abduction encounters. They often report being taken by an extraterrestrial being then shuffled onboard a space craft and into some kind of operating room where various insidious medical examinations are performed. Some key similarities found in the majority of abduction claims include: hours of missing time, gaps in memory, inexplicable scares/injuries/implants, disorientation, reproductive problems, and other post-traumatic stress symptoms.

Brian Canfield was driving his truck along the foothills of Mount Rainier when suddenly he experienced total engine failure and its headlights went out. Then a 9-foot tall broad-shouldered winged creature landed about 30 feet away. The being had a large mouth with sharp teeth, yellow eyes, a wolf-like face and was covered with bluish fur. After a few minutes the creature turned his head looked at the witness and started flapping its wings. The creature then took off towards Mount Rainier. The witness then was able to start his truck and drive away. A later search of the area failed to locate anything.

Two friends had gone on a fishing expedition at a pond located a few miles east of the L&N Railroad tracks. They would usually sneak in this pond to bass fish. The main witness had to go home before noon so he had started back by himself and left his friend fishing in the pond. On his way back down the tracks this creature landed on the tracks in front of him. When he said landed, he meant jumped, because all he saw was a blur and then there it was. It stood about 4 feet tall and stood or squatted on two legs. It was covered with real fine fur on its fat body. It had a little round head that moved like an owls head almost in circles. It had little round eyes and a mouth full of razor sharp teeth. Its teeth were almost transparent, kind of like a bat’s. I sort of favored a bat in the face. It had small ears and a small nose. It didn’t have any lips, just teeth. Its arms looked like they came out of its chest and they were spindly. It had long fingers and a thumb on each hand with long claws. Its arms didn’t have any hair or fur on them. They were slick and oily looking. The creature apparently couldn’t see very well in daylight, because it squinted a lot and it never did see the witness even though it landed in front of him. It acted as if it was watching for the trains. It would rub its tiny head on its arm every now and then. It looked right at the witness and couldn’t see him and he was only about 30 or 40 feet from it. He could see its fur moving. The creature never made a sound. The witness was dumbfounded he had never seen anything like it before and haven’t since. He wasn’t scared at first but wasn’t really sure what to expect. He had a tackle box in one hand and a fishing rod in the other, but he did have his hunting knife with him. As he tried to switch his fishing rod over to his other hand so he could get to his hunting knife, he rattled his tackle box and that’s when the creature heard him. It leaned forward and squinted its eyes and when it saw the witness it reared back and kind of puffed up. The witness thought it was going to attack him, so he jerked his knife out. When he did this the creature took off so fast it was like a blur. In one leap or jump it cleared a fence about 40 feet away and was gone. He couldn’t believe how fast the creature could move. He took off running where it leaped the fence but he never saw it again. Not far from where he saw the creature is an old family cemetery lot with slab graves and a rock wall around it. There are huge holes all in this cemetery under the graves. His grandmother told him of a thing or creature the old people call a ‘Graverobber’ that it moved really fast and digs in graveyards.

La Junta, Mexico: Location: Near La Junta, Guerrero, Chihuahua, Mexico Date: March 2 2009 Time: 2130
A young woman, “Yvonne” was returning home after dropping off a friend near the new Guerrero highway and was driving on a side road that took her by the local “Panteon” (an old local Pantheon like structure). As she drove by the front of the Panteon she noticed a tall hulking figure standing by the entrance wearing what appeared to be a black cape or blanket. Terrified she drove away at high speed, thinking she was looking at “death” itself. The witness said that the top of the figure’s head almost touched the top of the entrance to the Panteon which is almost 4 meters in height. Another witness in the village of El Rosario after hearing strange screeching noises coming from the vegetable garden went to investigate and saw a tall dark humanoid figure with glowing red eyes that appeared to have tangled itself with the frost protection screen. The witness ran from the area and when he returned later the strange creature was already gone.
Outer space has been lodged in my soul since my youth. This lead me to write the first edition of UFOs–God's Chariots? in 1977. In more recent years, I've invested considerable academic energy in the dialogue between science and religion with a special focus on astrobiology and the search for extraterrestrial intelligence (SETI). One thing I learned is that SETI scientists and UFO researchers do not attend the same barbeques. Rather, they sneer at each other in each oath heir's absence. Each accuses the other of not being scientific enough. I find this curious, but not boring. So, after writing a few treatises on astrotheology and astroethics, I'm returning once again to the UFO question with a focus on the extraterrestrial hypothesis.
As I return to prepare the second edition, I find today's media right where they were a half-century ago. Unfortunately, the media still thinks that the entire UFO pie can be divided into two slices, people who believe in UFOs and sceptics who do not believe. In order to obtain balance, reporters interview one unbeliever for each believer. Then, they consider their work done. In my judgment, this is too simplistic. When asked baby a reporter if I believe in UFOs, I routinely answer: “No. I believe in God. I study UFOs.”
The UFO phenomenon is much to textured and complex and nuances to reduce it to believers vs. unbelievers. When I wrote tithe first edition of UFOs –God's Chariots? I tried tot show how this is tithe case. Now as I turn to the revision, it appears that the phenomenon is even more complex than it was three decades ago.
This 2nd edition of Fifes–God's Chariots? Do two things.. First, it offers something toward understanding one of tithe most intriguing and fascinating mysteries of our post World War II era, namely, thee mystery of unidentified flying objects. Despite decades of study, the UFO phenomenon just seems to increases in its mystery. Like trying tot catch a greased pig, once we think we have a firm grasp of it, it squirms out in another direction so that we have to resume the chase. It is one thing to see a daylight disc or a glowing object in the night sky, or eleven to track an unknown blip on radar. It is another thing to have unknowns follow our aircraft or even land while leaving O rings of scorched grass on the ground. It is still another to speak with people who claim that they were abducted by diminutive gray skined entities and taken aboard a flying saucer or, in some cases, even give birth to hybrid babies that combine heavenly with earthly DNA. What is communicated to abductees and especially to contactees is of special interest to me as a scholar: UFOnauts speak of their world among the stars as enjoying a level of peace and love, which we on Earth can only envy. When we add up these elements and find an incongruous combination of physical nuts-and-bolts aircraft merged with paranormal experiences such as telepathy and walking through walls, this suggests we have a mysterious phenomenon extraordinaire.
The resolution to the mystery in its entirety is well beyond the scope of this article or even the book and, as far as I know, beyond the scope of any scholar working on the problem today. There is a particular contribution I can make, however, which will help to fill out our understanding of at least one important dimension of the UFO phenomenon. This is the religious dimension, the spiritual dimension.
UFO researchers have for the most part, overlooked the religious or spiritual qualities of this mystery descending from the sky during the last sixty years. When the topic of religion has been raised, it has been treated with astonishing naiveté, a naiveté that could be founded only on ignorance, or worse, prejudice against religion. The penchant has been to interpret UFOs from only one perspective, namely, as physical objects whose nature can be discerned through scientific analysis. A form of tunnel vision has been at work. I would like to expand this field of vision. In doing so, I do not wish to add psychic or spiritual facets to an otherwise physical phenomenon; rather, I wish to point out what has been present all along. The religious dimension has been a part of the UFO experience right from the begining. It will be my task in this book to bring the tols of a scholar of religion and a theologian to bear so that we can see that this is the case.
Spiritual Dimensions within Science
This brings us to the second task the present book performs. This second task is more indirect than direct. In order to get to the religious or spiritual domain of the UFO experience, we will have to pass through the land of the scientists. We will have to show the limits of the scientific perspective if we are to be able to open the door toward the religious perspective. This will be difficult to do, because the scientific mindset is not the private property of our practicing scientists alone. We all think this way. The scientific way of thinking imbues our culture. It provides us with the horizon and the logic whereby we admit something to our understanding and count it as knowledge. Thus, we will have to go to some lengths to show just how religious or spiritual sensibilities come to symbolic expression in UFO reports. Once this has been accomplished, then we will be ready to make some theological judgments. We will also be ready to offer some advice regarding how UFOs should be understod from the perspective of faith in God. In short, this book is not only
about UFOs which descend from the sky. It is about the culture that exists here on Earth. It is a case study of the relationship between science and religion.
In my maturing judgment, I believe the central thesis of the first edition of UFOs-God's Chariots? remains sound, namely, the UFO phenomenon exposes a widespread cultural tendency to translate traditional religious or spiritual sensibilities into scientific or materialist language and categories. In short, today's flying saucers replace yesterday's angels. So, this central theme continues to serve as the backbone connecting all the ribs in the second edition. A few new ribs will be added, however.
Abductions
One new rib has to do with changes taking place in abduction accounts. The early abduction accounts in the 1960s and 1970s tended to look like secularized versions of religious experience. Abductees, though frightened, roundly considered their experience to be positive, even life changing. During the late 1980s, however, many abduction reports turned dark, menacing. Abducted women and men claimed to have been abused, even raped by space lings. Stories of pregnancies and births of hybrid babies were retrieved through hypnotic regression. At first this new dimension to the UFO phenomenon seemed to contradict my thesis regarding ufonauts as celestial saviours. I resolved to look into this matter, to see whether confirmation or disconfirmation of my original thesis might be the implication. I'll share my musings.

I was somewhat speechless at first because I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. It honestly looked like something out of a science fiction movie that Hollywood would come up with. The shape was almost kite like, but had a mirror-like appearance and had 4 rings almost like a donut shape at each of the tips of the object. The rings were sort of flickering like when a fluorescent light is just turning on or about to burn out. It wasn’t a pulsing; it was more of a shimmering sort of flickering. The thing that seemed odd was that the object appeared to be the same color as the sky behind it. I have grown up near the airport and have seen planes overhead for 35 years and have never seen anything like it. As it started to dawn on me what I was seeing I yelled for my wife to look but at this point, it was getting farther away to where she could not see it. I could still see it, but it was faint to begin with but I was still tracking where it was in the sky so I knew where it was. While telling her to look for it I turned off the jets on the tub to see if I could hear anything, but it was completely silent. I did notice that the object was not heading towards the airport, but rather, just west of it, as if it didn’t even care that the airport was there. I stood in the hot tub not understanding what it was I just saw for about 10 minutes while my wife was asking me about what it was I saw. I was speechless. I have never seen anything like it before in my life. I drew the basic shape with the rings and such on the fridge to try to explain it to her. I feel like I am your everyday John Q. Public. I have no reason to embellish or make this up. I always have an eye on the sky, mainly because of my childhood love of astronomy. I would love to explain it as a military type craft or something, but it just didn’t feel like it was something that I had heard about or seen on TV somewhere. I have no good explanation, and hence, I am here, hoping that someone else in the northern Ohio area saw something. NOTE: The above image is a rendering

THE VEILED STRANGER
Location/Date: Kadima, Israel – March 20 1993 – 6:30 am
Ziporet Carmel woke up earlier than usual and went to her kitchen. As she got there she noticed that the room was bathed in a strange light. She went to check the grounds and as she walked around the storage shed she noticed what appeared to be a large fruit silo on a nearby field. As she took a closer look she noticed that the silo-like object was silver colored and square in shape. It had what appeared to be 18 glowing square windows along its side. Five huge beams of a powerful light shone from its top into the sky.
Suddenly, what appeared to be a second section of the object materialized doubling in size. Then a seven-foot tall man-like figure appeared near the object. The dogs reacted in a violent manner upon seeing the figure. The figure wore a metallic overall and what appeared to be a sombrero-like headgear with a veil that covered his face completely. The figure and the witness then stared at each other for about 30 seconds.
Ziporet then quietly whispered “Why don’t you take off your hat so I can see your face.” She then heard a clear voice inside her head that spoke in Hebrew telling her that, “That’s how things were.” The witness then felt compelled to go back to her kitchen. Later during a search of the field numerous ground traces were found an unknown smelly substance that made people sick with nausea, was also found.
Location/Date: near Adelphi Maryland – February 1968 – night
After work Sunday, a friend dropped off Tom Monteleone at home. As the friend pulled away, a large black car with its lights out glided from the shadows and halted at the curb. The entity called Vadig then called out to Monteleone from the car. Another man was in the car. Monteleone later recalled only that he wore a gray coat, had black hair, and never spoke. Monteleone got into the car.
The car was a very old Buick, but was very well kept and looked brand new…it even smelled brand new. They drove for about 30 minutes to a remote spot on a back road. When Monteleone got out of the car he was astonished to see an egg shaped object waiting for them. Inside the object he was put into a circular room containing nothing but a couple of bucket seats and a gray TV screen. Vadig and his companion disappeared into another part of the craft.
After a few minutes the TV screen came alive, the object shuddered as Monteleone watched the image of the earth receding to a tiny speck on the screen. Three or four hours passed. It seemed like hours before another planet appeared on the screen, it grew larger, and then the craft landed with a thump. The young Monteleone found himself in a place no too unlike the Earth. He and Vadig got into a wheel less vehicle that traveled along a ‘trough’. “This is Lanulos,” Vadig announced with pride in his voice.
Their vehicle traveled through a large city with low, flat buildings and signs written in some kind of Oriental looking characters. The people, male and female, were all nude. After the tour, they returned to the egg-shaped craft and took off again. Monteleone sat alone in the same circular room watching the television screen for hours. Finally they arrived back on Earth at the same place from which they had left. Monteleone, Vadig, and the silent man returned to the old Buick and drove for about 30 minutes until they reached his apartment house. “I’ll see you in time,” Vadig declared, the car drove off. To Monteleone’s amazement the whole trip, including the 30-minute rides to and from the object, had taken less than two hours.
Location/Date: New Town, Edinburgh, Scotland – 1990 – late evening
A man named Brian Wilson was working the late shift one night at a local pizza parlor when a pair of “rather small” adults, who had a somewhat “lopsided” look about them, approached the counter, raised their right hands, and announced; “Hi, we’re Americans!”
“What would you like?” Brian asked them.
They countered, “What do you make?”
“Pizzas” replied Brian.
“What are pizzas?” inquired the supposed Americans.
The couple watched Brian intently as he prepared two cheese and tomato pizzas. All the while, the male “kept looking around the shop like he’d never been in a pizza parlor before”. Then the female pointed to a bowl of green peppers and asked what they were.
By now, Brian’s colleague Doug had also noticed that there was something rather odd about the pair, and the two chefs exchanged glances of disbelief as Brian carefully explained what a pepper was.
“Do they taste nice?” wondered the female.
As the pair waited in silence for their pizzas (complete with green peppers) to cook, other customers came in and out of the shop as usual. Once their order was ready, the extraordinary Americans settled their bill. Each took a single bite out of their pizza then threw the remainder into the bin outside the shop.
Brian entertained a suspicion that his visitors may have literally been from another planet “I had read stories on the subject of aliens masquerading as human beings,” he told investigators. “These two individuals came across as acting as humans, but not doing a very good job of it!”
Location/Date: Southern Illinois – May 2, 2003 – 3:30 am
Three young women returning from a bonfire and party in the countryside and had just finished returning some of the equipment and chairs to a shed. As they got back into the van one of the girls saw a figure standing a little off the driveway by the house. She motioned the others to look at it and becoming afraid headed back into town.
They described the figure as man-like, light colored or wearing white clothing. Soon they headed over to the bonfire, which was still burning. Suddenly in the glow of the headlights they all saw what appeared to be two separate rows of creatures or figures. Maybe 15 to each row and about approximately 3 to 4 ft tall and standing only about 15 ft from them, directly in front of the car. One of the witnesses described them as having ‘Christmas light’ heads and that the heads were connected to the body but she couldn’t see how. Their arms were up, but she couldn’t see hands. She says they were stick-like, dark gray or brown in color. They did not move and stood perfectly still. They appeared to be frozen in two separate rows. Two of the girls began to cry and screamed for the driver to leave the area immediately. Terrified they drove away from the area and drove around for about 2 hours before having the courage to return back to their homes.
Location/Date: Vyborg, Russia – Summer 1999 – during daylight
32-year old Mariya was found barely alive, naked and injured on a highway outside of St. Petersburg. She was taken to a hospital where it was found that she had numerous cuts, bruises and other injuries. After initial investigation local militia came to the conclusion that she had been raped. There was a strange detail present; the lower part of her body was covered in an unknown substance resembling mucus or frogspawn.
When she regained conscious she reported that she had been staying with some friends at a country cottage when one day she decided to take a motorboat into the bay of Finland. She wanted to look at an island, which had the ruins of a former Finnish glass plant abandoned in 1939. Suddenly a dense cloud covered the sky, she looked up and saw a huge disc-shaped craft. She felt paralyzed with fear and unable to move. As the huge flying saucer hovered over her she lost consciousness. She does not recall how long she had been unconscious but she woke up feeling a terribly cold and fearful. She opened her eyes and found herself lying on a metallic table, completely naked. She was not tied and was able to move but soon noticed a bizarre creature leaning over her. The creature was lizard-like, with huge eyes. She saw many shiny instruments around her and 3 or 4 lights shone over her. Suddenly she felt the creature climb over her, touching her. She felt like screaming but her throat did not obey her. She felt everything but soon lost consciousness again. She regained consciousness in a hospital 200 kilometers away from where she had originally been. Her boat was found on an island. The mucus or mucilage like substance proved difficult to wash away from her body.

Location/Date:Kuusamo, Finland – August 1, 1998 – 11:30pm
Two couples were in their summer cottage chatting and waiting for a bath in the sauna. The owner of the cottage, Pekka, went to the terrace to smoke a cigarette. Suddenly he noticed a man who he at first thought was his guest, Teemu, come to his left side. He was a little surprised since the door had made no sound whatsoever, but ignored it. Pekka began to talk to Teemu about events in the cottage last winter and wondered why did Teemu did not say anything and just smiled. He then noticed that the man was not Teemu, but only someone that resembled him. Pekka said, “But you are not Teemu” The man just smiled and walked to his right side.
Pekka now noticed that there were three other persons in the cottage sitting in the living room talking. He was going to ask the man a question but was answered before posing the question, apparently reading his mind. The stranger said, “You know very well who I am, Pekka.” The man now seemed to be having difficulty in keeping his disguised appearance. His jaw fell down wax-like, but he manages to reconstitute himself after some facial “gymnastic”. When his jaw fell down his mouth was very thin and the jaw pointed.
Pekka now began to think that the man was not from this planet and began to feel uneasy. He kept asking the man who he was, to which the stranger answered, “You are one of us Pekka. You are chosen”. Pekka began to walk inside and asked, “Why me”? To which the stranger answered, “You are a good man”. Once at the door Pekka asked, “How long did the journey last?” The stranger said 11 months. Pekka resisted the urge to get closer to stranger and walked inside. The others noticed right away that something had occurred but Pekka did not tell them about the incident until the next morning. In spite of what the stranger had said Pekka did not recognize him and he had never been interested in UFOs. He was badly shaken after the experience.
Barely six weeks after rolling troops into the Crimean Peninsula, an official from Vladimir Putin’s Russia has announced the country’s next expansion target: the Moon.
As reported by the Voice of Russia, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin told the government daily Rossiiskaya Gazeta that establishing a permanent Moon base has become one of the country’s top space priorities.
“The moon is not an intermediate point in the [space] race, it is a separate, even a self-contained goal,” Rogozin reportedly said. “It would hardly be rational to make some ten or twenty flights to the moon, and then wind it all up and fly to the Mars or some asteroids.”
Rogozin’s comments were an obvious dig against the US space program. NASA flew its last manned mission to the Moon in 1972 and currently has no plans to return humans to the Earth’s satellite. The space agency’s next major objective is to rendezvous with an asteroid, and a manned mission to Mars is a perennial favorite topic among US politicians, even if they seem unwilling to provide NASA the funding needed for such an endeavor. 4/12/2014 – Manchester, UK: I had just been viewing Moon, Mars and Jupiter using my telescope. I had put the telescope away and was looking east from the door of my house. I looked up and saw a fast moving patch of light. The basic shape of the light was a cross with the cross beam towards the rear of the object
The shape was not well defined and not very bright. The shape appeared to be broken into sections. There was no noise at all and the intensity stayed constant. The speed was greater than that of any of the planes we see in the area. I observed for a few seconds then went to get my binoculars which took about 3 seconds by then it had disappeared. Either it had stopped giving off light or had gone below the hills in the distance. – MUFON CMS
More mystery ‘explosions’ in Highgate baffle experts
Noise experts are scratching their heads over mysterious “explosions” in Highgate – after dozens of residents reported hearing another loud bang this week.
People living in the Shepherd’s Hill and Archway Road area of Highgate said they heard a loud explosion noise – similar to a bomb or gas explosion – just before 10pm on Monday.
Last week, the Ham&High reported that residents in Highgate have been hearing the loud booming sounds for about 18 months.
Officers from Haringey Council’s noise team are investigating but the local authority has been left baffled by the phenomenon.
Will Wheatcroft, 31, said he heard the latest “very loud explosion” while sitting on the sofa with his fiancée Stephanie in his Stanhope Road home.
“Really it sounded like a car bomb or a gas explosion,” he said. “It made us turn around and say, ‘What the hell was that?’
“I expected to hear sirens a few minutes afterwards, but there weren’t any. After reading the Ham&High, I can now understand why, because it happens a lot.”
Residents in Muswell Hill and Crouch End have also reported hearing the noises, that are said to be so loud they shake the foundations of their homes.
One Twitter user reported hearing another loud bang on Tuesday night at about 10pm in Crouch End. A couple in Priory Gardens, Highgate, have contacted Haringey police about the sounds.
Ruled out
But after a short investigation a spokesman advised residents to alert the council’s noise team instead, unless it is an emergency.
The National Grid has ruled out gas explosions in the area while UK Power Networks said the bangs could not be caused by an electrical substation in Shepherd’s Hill Allotments.
The Met Office said there was no thunder or lightning on Monday night and Thames Water said the noises could not be caused by sewer repairs in Langdon Park Road and Northwood Road, Highgate. Haringey Council restricts building works to working hours, TfL is not carrying out explosive works at Highgate Underground station, Archway Road.
Mr Wheatcroft speculated it could be sonic booms caused by aeroplanes breaking the sound barrier. But a spokesman from the Department of Transport said they would be heard across a much larger distance if they were the source.
A council spokesman said it could be “kids with bangers” playing in Queen’s Wood, Muswell Hill, but none of the council’s noise team officers had a probable explanation for the explosions.
The local authority will now work with Haringey police to try and identify their source.

Carlos Canas woke up to see a translucent, 7 ft to 8 ft tall being that emitted a green glowing light floating in midair in his bedroom. The being appeared to have only eye sockets and it did not appear to have legs. The top part of the body was smaller than the lower part. It floated back and forth at the foot of the bed appearing to look at the witness. Canas attempted to scream but he could not emit a sound. He finally ran out the bedroom and into his grandmother’s room. Later upon returning to his room the creature had already vanished.

On Friday October 9, 1992, a string of meteoric fireballs flew by Washington D.C., one of which meteors took out the right signal-light of a parked Chevrolet in Peekskill, New York. That is, a five-inch wide (by 11-inches long) meteor went through a five-inch wide (by 22-inches long) taillight without damaging the chrome bumper beneath it. Curiously enough, the impact gave temporal notice of another meteor-string soon to appear, in 93/3 (March '93), namely, comet Shoemaker-Levy 9. SL9 was discovered March 24 1993. Those twenty-one meteors took it out on the backside of Jupiter twenty-one months later — only the most energetic events of any kind ever seen close up, or closely enough.
The third event in the series of impact events was not meteoritic, however, it was gun-related. It encapsulated rather starkly the dilemma the human species now faces. Humans with guns: no problem you think, although it was probably a metaphor for humans with injury-dealing projectiles of any sort. Since the event took place in a town called Princeton, of all places, this seems to include the atom, since Einstein more or less made the word Princeton famous (or was it the other way around?).
Shoots own foot thrice
Princeton, W. Va. – A man accidentally shot himself three times in the right foot while cleaning three handguns, police said. The 38-year-old man was drinking beer Wednesday morning when he decided to clean his guns, according to a report filed by Mercer County Sheriff's Deputy L.R. Catron. His .32-caliber handgun went off, but it “didn't hurt” so he finished cleaning the .32, then began cleaning his .380- caliber pistol, which also went off, said the report. That bullet “stung a little, but not too bad,” Catron quoted the man as saying. The man finished cleaning the .380 and then pulled out his .357-caliber pistol, only to shoot himself a third time. The man finally called an ambulance. Catron said the man told him the .357 shot “really hurt because the bullet was a hollow point.” (NY Daily News, Oct. 11, 1992)
Now the idea of a guy shooting himself in the foot is a well-known human saying. When people do this to themselves, they're acting like their own worst enemy. So when a guy shoots himself in the right foot three times (ouch), with three different guns, he's not doing himself any favors, nor is he going to go anywhere, very fast. When a species explodes a few hundred nuclear bombs in the atmosphere for testing purposes, this is bad enough in a biological sense, but if countries start using them as payload projectiles (mega-ouch!), well, that's not going to do your species any favors, either.
With all the recent talk, presidential warnings, and threats of imminent nuclear attack, the metaphor enacted on October 7, 1992 (see comic strip) twenty years ago seems especially apropos today, trenchant even. The latest such warning comes from president Obama himself, there, as the March 25, 2014 New York “Daily News” headline tells: “Obama says he's more worried about the possibility of nuclear weapon going off in Manhattan than Russian threat.” If one could wipe away from serious thought Russia ever using its considerable nuclear arsenal to defend her legacy Ukrainian “interests” from Western incursions, then one could probably dismiss the whole statement as nothing but an empty bluff.
The 21st century, which Shoemaker-Levy 9's 21 fragments clearly augured, will severely test, or at least follow, the human penchant and legacy for using high technology to dominate or just eradicate others. The metaphor enacted in Peekskill, then, was apt enough, under current human circumstances. Princeton, the third impact event in the series (the first to occur in time), was dead on and to the point in so many ways, like everything else pointed out by the latter two impact events. What conscience did the old world show the “new world” in the years following 1492? It was, of course, the old world's superior technology that allowed the old world to ruin and then dominate America. NASA-Ames' ten-year, 100 million dollar “targeted search' for extra-terrestrial intelligence (new worlds) did begin on October 12, 1992, after all.
Being as the member injured in this instance was the right foot, not the left, and that it happened three times, not once or twice, the fact that the Peekskill meteorite tagged the right signal-light, not the left, causing the chrome tail-light accent to over score the license plate numbers '933' — perfectly, one could add — adds a certain weight to the word and it's opposite: right and wrong.
Considering what ET seems to know about us, one could wonder how many “quatloos” our extra-terrestrial neighbors are wagering on the nuclear fait accompli about now.

Heinrich Himmler's infamous Occult Corps (Geheimnisvolle Korps) kept an eye on all committed occultists in Germany. Since marriage ceremonies had already been devised for the SS elite, it is to be expected that someone presumed from Himmler's Occult Corps — not a common civil magistrate — performed Hitler's marriage. But bodyguard Rochus Misch never talked about that last enigma of the bunker. Did an occultist Hitler Double get away unobserved from the Berlin Fuehrerbunker?
According to some reports, certified ministers of the Occult Corps frequently claimed that it was actually Aleister Crowley, the self-proclaimed antichrist (Beast 666), who ran the Third Reich from behind the scenes.
The origin of Hitlerism and its relation to the occult have been a part of popular culture. Nazism was an occult religion with Hitler as a god. The Fuhrer allegedly came to believe himself a reincarnation of Landulf II of Capua (943-961), and went through initiation to corroborate it. (Landulf, who was occasionally associated in legends with the spear of destiny of Longinus, fled to Sicily after his traitorous links to Islam were disclosed.)
Rochus Misch described details of the bunker suicide scene: Suddenly I heard somebody shouting to Hitler's attendant: 'Linge, Linge, I think it's happened.' They'd heard a gunshot, but I hadn't… I saw Hitler slumped with his head on the table… I watched as they wrapped Hitler up. His legs were sticking out as they carried him past me.
The next day the drama continued. Down in the bunker, the six children of Germany's new leader — Joseph Goebbels — were drugged and murdered. It was their own mother Magda who killed them.
'Straight after Hitler's death, Mrs Goebbels came down to the bunker with her children,' Mr Misch recalls. 'She started preparing to kill them. She couldn't have done that above ground — there were other people there who would have stopped her. That's why she came downstairs — because no one else was allowed in the bunker. She came down on purpose to kill them.
'The kids were right next to me and behind me. We all knew what was going to happen. It was clear. I saw Hitler's doctor, Dr Stumpfegger give the children something to drink. Some kind of sugary drink. Then Stumpfegger went and helped to kill them. All of us knew what was going on. An hour or two later, Mrs Goebbels came out crying. She sat down at a table and began playing patience.' (Steve Rosenberg, I was in Hitler's suicide bunker, BBC News, September 3, 2009)
Before Misch's death, Spiegel reported: Former Chancellor Willy Brandt once visited him, he recalls, as did many filmmakers. But Misch never talks about the last secret surrounding the final days in the bunker.
Every minute of those last days is on record — everything except for who shot Hermann Fegelein, the SS general married to Eva Braun's sister. Fegelein was Heinrich Himmler's liaison officer with Hitler and left the bunker without permission on April 27. Arrested in his Berlin apartment, the SS general was executed on April 29. Misch says he knows who pulled the trigger, but won't reveal his identity, even though he is dead. He says Hitler didn't have Fegelein shot, contrary to a claim by the late historian Joachim Fest. He only demoted him.
Misch prefers to talk about Hanna Reitsch, the pilot who wanted to fly the Goebbels' six children out of Berlin. He says Goebbels wanted to rescue the children but that his wife Magda had them all killed out of loyalty to Hitler. After they had been killed, she played cards.
He recalls seeing Eva Braun sitting dead in the corner of the sofa, her head turned to Hitler, 'her knees pulled up to her chest, she had a dark blue dress on and a white frill on her collar.' Misch said: I had noticed that Mueller from the Gestapo was there — and he was never usually around. I said to my comrade Hentschel, the mechanic: 'Maybe we will be killed for being the last witnesses.'
Misch fled with others into the rubble of Berlin. Working his way through cellars and subways, Misch surfaced after hearing German spoken above through an airshaft. But the voices came from soldiers that were taken prisoners, and the Soviet guards grabbed him as well.
Following the German surrender on May 7, 1945, Misch was taken to the Soviet Union, where he spent the next nine years in prisoner of war camps before being allowed to return to Berlin in 1954. Rochus Misch was finally reunited with his wife Gerda, and his daughter Brigitta Jacob-Engelken, on New Year's Eve 1953:
Father and daughter seemed to have little in common. They argued. Then Brigitta's maternal grandmother let her into an amazing secret: Brigitta's mother was Jewish.
'My grandmother said to me, 'I think it's good to keep in touch with your roots. But don't tell your mother. She doesn't want that.'
