Vintage 'UFO' photos that governments couldn't explain revealed

March 5, 2015 - The US government is still unable to explain around five per cent of UFO sightings in its archives.

Now one team of ‘alien hunters’ has dug up some of the best images to see if the public can shed light on the eerie glows, mysterious orbs and flying objects from the last few decades.

Among them is a remarkable 1957 photo taken by a test pilot near Edwards Air Force Base in California, allegedly showing a UFO following a B-47 jet.

Another, released by the  Aerial Phenomena Group, shows three mysterious lights over the Manhattan skyline taken in 1984. It was taken by Philipe Orego from New Jersey, and researchers could find no sign of a hoax at the time. 

‘A UFO picture tells a thousand lies,’ Nigel Watson author of the UFO Investigations Manual told DailyMail.com

‘The basic problem is that if a UFO photograph is taken in daylight and looks close, clear and sharp, you suspect it is a fake.

‘If it is out-of-focus, distant and hard to define, then it can be a picture of anything in the sky - from an insect, bird to a balloon or drone.

‘The pictures here don’t seem to be faked but each has its own story to tell. With old pictures, blobs or spots can appear due to the way the film is developed or mishandled in the processing stage. ‘ 

Watson said that a good case to illustrate this point is the image of the UFO over Los Angeles.

In February 1942, fears of a Japanese air raid and invasion struck LA. On 23 February, a Japanese submarine allegedly shelled the Elwood Oil Field near Goleto, north of Los Angeles.

In the early hours of 25 February, a fleet of mystery aircraft were seen heading for the city.

Army Chief of Staff General George Marshall reported in a memorandum to President Roosevelt dated 26 February 1942 that as many as 15 airplanes may have been involved.

Although 1430 rounds were expended by the 37th Coast Artillery Brigade’s anti-aircraft guns no aircraft was hit or shot down and no bombs were dropped by the aircraft.

The only conclusion was that commercial aircraft were used by enemy agents to determine the location of anti-aircraft guns and to spread alarm.

‘This invasion scare became the subject of Steven Spielberg’s high-rolling comedy movie ‘1941’ (1979) that shows how fear ensnares people in a web of obsession and conflict fuelled by rumours and the media,’ said Watson.

‘The lasting evidence of the craft was a photograph of a ‘wigwam’ of searchlights converging on an unidentified aircraft over Culver City.’

An analysis by UFO expert Dr Bruce Maccabee suggests that the object caught by the searchlight beams was 100 feet wide.  

Steven Lacey, another UFO believer, using Photoshop cleared up the image to reveal an image of a classic flying saucer.

This made him conclude that this image is ‘a very convincing argument for the presence of alien craft in our skies.’

‘In contrast, aviation historian Brett Holman puts forward a convincing case that the searchlights are converging on a small cloud rather than a UFO or extra-terrestrial battlecruiser,’ said Watson.

‘And, he has found other examples of antiaircraft searchlights illuminating clouds that look like flying saucers.

‘A UFO picture certainly says more than a thousand words, but it still depends on our prejudices and expectations to decide whether it depicts something extraordinary or mundane.’

A number of 'closed' cases were also recently revealed by the US government who opened its files into 12,000 encounters with UFOs spanning between 1947-1969.

Microfilms of these cases, collectively known as Project Blue Book, have become available for anyone to view online.

One of the most famous is the Lubbock Lights incident, which was reported on August 30, 1951 in Texas by three professors. 

The witnesses were sitting in the backyard of one of the professor's homes when they saw 20 to 30 'lights' fly overhead.

One of the professors said the objects 'appeared to be about the size of a dinner plate and they were greenish-blue, slightly fluorescent in colour.

'They were smaller than the full moon at the horizon. There were about a dozen to fifteen of these lights...they were absolutely circular...it gave all of us...an extremely eerie feeling.'

The USAF concluded that these lights were most likely caused by birds named plovers, which have white breasts that can reflect lights from cities below.

Another image, titled simply 'Winter 1951', shows what the photographer believed to be a flying saucer.

However, scientists discovered that the eerie shape was a lenticular cloud which are created by moist air that has condensed at a high altitude.

Barney and Betty Hill: The First Couple of Abduction

It was September 1961 and a couple was driving down the roadway in New Hampshire. Betty and Barney Hill were heading home from a vacation when Barney, who was driving, noted a star in the sky that seemed to be moving oddly. The couple watched it as they drove along, contemplating what it was. Finally, they pulled over to see if it was moving erratically as it looked, or they were just imagining it. Barney pulled out his binoculars to look at the “star.”

What he saw was incomprehensible. It appeared to be a craft with windows and multicolored lights. He also saw individuals inside the windows. 

One minute, Barney was looking at the ship that had people piloting it and was truly amazing, and the next, he jumped into the car with his wife and raced down the roadway. 

The last thing they recalled was looking around to find the air ship was gone. Even more unsettling is that only a couple minutes passed, but they were 35 miles down the road!

The next day, still a bit unsettled, Betty Hill told her sister what they saw and she urged her to call the air force base, and she did. Apparently, they confirmed a UFO on radar.

When Betty repeatedly had nightmares of someone pulling her husband into a craft and local investigators noted their time line was missing 2 hours, they had to know what happened.

As the couple dodged curious reporters, they knew they had only one option; to contact a psychiatrist about this missing time issue and to perhaps dispatch nightmares and get their life back into order.

At the suggestion for regression hypnosis, the couple agreed. They both reported bald-headed alien beings that had slanted large eyes and grey skin and pear-shaped heads. They both also reported some kind of gynecological testing and sperm sampling.

Since their case was revealed, other cases were compared with it. They were the first couple that went terribly public with abduction and many skeptics call this a case of others coming forward “conveniently forgetting” encounters that were subconsciously planted by childhood knowledge of this couples' rendition of events. The use of regression hypnosis was commonly used henceforth on people who suspected they had encounters or recalled them only vaguely.

Ironically, when I was an adult, I went in for regression hypnosis to recall events in my childhood and during one session in which I vividly looked around my childhood bedroom and recalled every single detail of wallpaper, bedding, flooring, even the shoes I left on the floor near the door, I looked up and only several feet away, I saw a classic alien grey with two tall slender pale beings on either side of him. He wore a kind of colorful stone on his forehead between his eyes that looked to me, as a kid, as a sign of importance or royalty. There was an exchange of information from him to me. When I left the regression session, even though all the prior ones had been helpful and explicitly detailed, I did not believe in aliens or want to discuss what I saw. Since the hypnotist just told me to look around my room and get oriented, she didn't ask what I was seeing, I did not offer her the alien that I viewed. I did not feel fear, but a sense of comfort, as if he was someone in my life and familiar to me. I stopped all sessions after that and dismissed hypnosis as unreliable. It wasn't until about 15 years later, that I had some very awake, very interactive visits that I recalled completely. I have detailed this in my book, “My Alien Encounters” on Kindle. 

There was nothing about this couple to say that they were hungry for publicity, as they tried to dodge reporters and keep some privacy. They did, however, make everyone wonder in the back of their minds if they had something hidden from their consciousness.

What happened to Barney and Betty Hill told us a few key characteristics to look at when considering potential abduction; missing time, huge distances crossed within minutes, confusion about events, witnessing UFOs, nightmares with abduction themes, strange body markings/injuries and the like.

With the passing of the couple, there is no way to ever truly know what happened to them. It is a matter of belief or disbelief. Discerning people do not dismiss all abduction cases because they refuse to believe in alien abduction, instead they look at each case individually to find what has some credence. It would seem that the Hills had a case that held up over time and scrutiny.

Skywatcher Captured Cigar-Shaped UFO Next to Venus (Video)

Newtownards, Great Britain – 02-28-15 – I decided to look at Venus as it was very bright. I have a Pulsar Recon 550 night scope and I am an active observer of the night sky.

I live on a farm and have very little light pollution. I opened the window and looked out and noticed an object beside Venus. I watched the object for a short while and then got my binoculars.

I could not see the object with the binoculars. I rushed and got my recording equipment hooked up to my scope to record the thing. The wind was gusting up to 60mph and heading in a SW direction, directly towards me.

I hung out of my window and filmed it for approx. 4 minutes. It moved slowly from one side of Venus to the other. Clouds passed at about 4 minutes and then the object just vanished. None of this was visible to the naked eye. I did not have my IR illuminator on. Some have suggested it is lens flare.

I have filmed bright objects like Venus, Jupiter and the Moon and not got lens flare before. I was not shooting through a window. It was open and to the right of me. The actual gap I had to film was only 6 inches, so I was unable to move either side much. It was very windy and the wind was blowing in my face quite a bit.

Later when I went to bed, I heard a buzzing sound. I thought it was the wind vibrating off something, but it has never done it before and we are in a very windy location. No one else could hear the buzzing sound. I was still able to hear it even wearing ear plugs.

The following day, I felt very weird and fuzzy in the head. I could not think straight and kept forgetting where I’d put things. I also had an overwhelming urge to debunk what I had witnessed the previous night. I have submitted this video to Mufon.

“Roswell Alien Slides” owner speaks out

There has been a lot of online buzz around photographs that one researcher has called a “smoking gun” when it comes to proof that aliens are visiting Earth. Even though there are many articles, blogs, interviews, and forum posts about the pictures, the public has yet to actually see them. They will be displayed during a special event hosted by Mexican Broadcast Journalist Jaime Maussan in Mexico City on May 5, 2015.

Among the buzz is speculation about what the pictures show, questions as to why they will be shown in Mexico, and questions as to how the pictures were found in the first place. The pictures are owned by a production company, and the owner of that company, Adam Dew, is creating a documentary about the slides titled Kodachrome. He says the trailer to Kodachrome shows everything they know to this point. However, as questions are answered, more arise.

I caught up with Dew to ask him about some of the outstanding questions and to address some of the speculation out there.

Dew was interviewed as one of the researchers when the May 5 event was announced. The trailer to his documentary was also revealed at that time. However, Dew’s role was not apparent, and the tie between he and the documentary were not either.

I asked Dew about his background and how he got involved with the slides.

Dew says his background is in journalism and video production. He graduated from Northwestern University in 1998 with a degree in journalism. He then went on to cover high school sports. In about 2003/2004 he started his own video production company called Varsity Tape. They shoot recruitment videos for high school athletes. He says he also freelances for CBS Sports, Yahoo!, and USA Today. He also has corporate clients for PR, video shooting and editing.

He got involved with the slides around 2008. They were discovered by his friend’s sister in 1998. She found a box of photographs while she was cleaning out a house to prepare it for an estate sale. Dew says she is a bit of a hoarder and just threw them in her garage. She finally looked at them in 2008.

She found around 400 pictures, some of them were of famous people. The box was coming apart, and she found a couple of slides wrapped up and tucked under the others.

Dew says, “She was able to project them and she thought they were very interesting.”

Dew described what she saw: “When most people see the slides first hand, they think the slides look like what we think, what we have been conditioned to think, an alien would like.”

The woman and her brother brought the slides to Dew since he was in the video business, and Dew and his friend began investigating their origins.

Dew says the pictures were on Kodachrome slides, and are not “perfectly in focus.” He says, “Kodachrome never responded well to poor lighting.”

However, he says he did find them very compelling.

Dew says their first task was to date the slides. He says, “We wanted to date the slides, because we knew people might think they were hoaxed and staged.”

As we have covered in past stories about the slides, the film and its slide cover have been allegedly confirmed to be from the late 40s. To Dew this proves that the film is not doctored.

“That is the first thing people say is that it is a hoax,” says Dew. “Even Neil deGrasse Tyson. When I showed them to Neil deGrasse Tyson, his first response was that these are fake. Well, they are not fake. People in the late 40s were not staging aliens, as far as I can tell. That image of the big head and skinny body didn’t become popular in pop culture until the 60s. So we know that it is not a fake staged alien, as far as I can tell.”

Dew says the slide owners had very interesting backgrounds, lending further credibility to their legitimacy. So, the next step was to have someone look at them who had seen an alien body. This brought them to two of the most respected researchers of the Roswell UFO incident, Don Schmitt and Tom Carey.

Schmitt and Carey were then able to get Dew in touch with a man who claims he had seen alien bodies that were recovered at the alleged UFO crash in Roswell in 1947. Dew says the man wishes to remain anonymous, but his name and his picture are in the yearbook for the Roswell Army Air Field in 1947.

When shown the pictures, the witness says the body in the image did look like the bodies he saw in 1947. Dew says, “He said he saw fresh bodies and our body looks like it has been preserved in some fashion.”

I asked Dew if he was certain that it is an alien in the pictures. He said, “I am not certain. I don’t know how that I would have that certainty. I have not claimed that I have ever seen an alien, and from what I can tell in my research that I have done into this, there are no pictures online of any bodies that hold any weight.”

He continued, “I am like everybody else that first looks at it, that it looks like what I think an alien would look like.”

Another question I asked that has been causing some to scratch their heads is why they would choose to reveal the images and the research on them at a large event in Mexico.

Dew says, “The event is justified in that there is enough there to showcase the slides in this fashion. There is enough interesting material, there is enough supporting material, and there are enough people willing to go on the record.”

He continued, “In my mind, Mexico City, U.S., or wherever, maybe I am being naive, but I think the slides will stand on their own no matter where they are presented. Jaime had this vision for this big event and it sounds exciting to me. It sounds fun and interesting, and it is a big stage. No one in the U.S. would have been able to present a stage like this. In some ways it gives it an international feel.”

Dew says they did shop the project around to Hollywood producers and he was surprised at the high level meetings he was able to obtain. However, in the end, he did not want the photos to be just another part of an existing UFO program, and he did not want to give up control. He says, “This is a way to tell the story my way.”

Dew points out that the event in Mexico City is also the quickest way to get the pictures to the public. If they had gone with a TV show, it would have taken months to produce.

He also admits that money was a concern. He says he turned down a reputable magazine that wanted to cover the story because they were not offering any compensation.

“There was a major respectable U.S. monthly magazine that wanted to publish the slides years ago, but they weren’t offering any money and we wanted to at least find a way to bring some bit of funding into this project. People talk about these substantial packages and I just roll my eyes and laugh about what people think is the kind of money that’s involved in this. This has been a process that has cost me money out of my pocket, and I would certainly like to tell my wife that we at least broke even on this in the worst case scenario,” says Dew.

He realizes not everyone will agree with this decision. He says, “If I made a mistake there, I apologize, but again, it was a matter of us being able to tell the story our way.”

But as of late, Dew is becoming used to people criticizing his approach. He says he has been “surprised by the name calling and anger by some of the people interested in this topic.”

Among the criticism, some aren’t satisfied with the investigation. He says, “People are asking for science, but these are photos. There is only so much science you can get out of photos.”

I also asked Dew about some of the speculation out there. Many believe these photographs, which have now become known as the “Roswell Slides,” are actually depicting a mummy on display. This idea stems from a scene in the trailer for Dew’s documentary.

In the scene, a man is examining one of the slides on a light table. The slide can barely be seen. However, online researchers blew up the image and corrected for the angle and came up with an image that is very distorted and blurred, but much more clear than what has been seen thus far.

This image has been matched up with known mummies of children and many see a similarity. Dew says he looked into this possibility himself, and ruled it out.

Dew says, “To me it is obviously not the same thing, but maybe that’s just me.”

The mummy image that people feel is most similar has a hole in its side. People have pointed out a dark spot on the low resolution blown up slide that they believe confirms it is the same body. However, Dew says, “There is no hole on the side of our body.”

Dew says the speculation does not frustrate him, in fact it inspires him. He says, “In a lot of ways, the way people have reacted to the slides and low-res version that is out there, has reinforced my approach that I want to know as much as I can know before they are put out there for the public.”

Dew says he will continue to research the slides and get more expert opinion, although it has been difficult. He says most scientist see that the body has a head, two arms, and two legs and automatically assume it is human.

Dew says he is “just trying to get people to look at them with an open mind set. If someone with a science background is going to say this, we want to know why.”

“The response has been really good, and the story is interesting, and we are taking a detached fair approach to the story, and I think people’s biggest beef is that we are not operating under someone else’s timetable,” says Dew.

Those with a beef often compare him to Ray Santilli, who hoaxed a famous Roswell alien autopsy video in the 90s. Dew doesn’t think that comparison is fair.

Dew explains, “I get compared to Ray Santilli. Are you comparing this event in Mexico City to a national primetime Fox broadcast? That is an equal comparison in people’s minds? It just boggles me. Especially because the Santilli stuff is fake, and these are real slides.  You can’t fake Kadachrome. You can say what you want about what’s in the image, but the image is real.”

Dew insists that he is not a hoaxer, nor are his friends.

In the end, he says, “The slides clearly have captured people’s attention and people’s interest, and I think it’s just a matter of figuring out what they are.”

Take a look at the following video and tell me you didn’t notice something really strange.

At 1:30 am on February 2, an electrical power plant substation in Escanaba, Michigan exploded. The city is located in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and its 13,000 residents were left without power for several days following the explosion. Fortunately, there were no injuries and power was eventually restored.

This unlucky incident features an intriguing and unexplained aspect: the mysterious beam of light that can be seen shooting straight up as the substation exploded. Or as some would say, shooting straight down. In this case, could it have played a hand in the power station’s demise?

The strange light was witnessed by many of the city’s residents and some of them filmed it and posted the videos on the internet. Despite this, news about the incident only emerged about a week later. People have started wondering why.

The official explanation was that the beam was caused by ice crystals reflecting the light of a passing train. Anyone with common sense would beg to differ.

While there are a lot of videos showing ‘UFOs’ hovering above or near power stations (nuclear power stations in particular), there were no unidentified flying objects seen in the area at the time of the explosion. However, the skies were cloudy and if the beam had indeed been caused by something from above, it wouldn’t have been visible anyway.

Fans of conspiracy theories suspect a HAARP experiment was behind the incident. We don’t know whether the program has the ability to rain down beams of energy but we will open this can of worms on another occasion.

The last possibility that has been forwarded is the most threatening of them all. Two years ago, there was another explosion at the Combat Readiness Training Center in Alpena, MI, 250 miles east of Escanaba. It received no media attention but there were rumors that it had been caused by Spetsnaz, the Russian special forces. Word has it that the Spetsnaz has a secret plot to bring down the United States’ power grid. Unconfirmed, yet a terrible prospect nonetheless.

It still beats the train headlight explanation, though.

U.S. Government’s De Facto Acknowledgement of the Existence of UFOs

PHOENIX, AZ — The United States Government has, for the first time ever, acknowledged by de facto the long-suspected reality of the UFO phenomenon.  John Burroughs encountered a craft of unknown origin in England’s Rendlesham Forest in December of 1980 and suffered injury there from for which the Veterans Administration has now recognized by granting him full medical disability. The December 1980 Rendlesham Forest incident in the United Kingdom is arguably the most well documented and important UFO encounter in history.  A UFO was seen over three consecutive nights by United States Air Force personnel stationed at the twin bases of Bentwaters and Woodbridge, near Ipswich, England — then the largest NATO air force bases at the height of the Cold War.

The UFO was tracked on radar and physical evidence was found at a site where the UFO was seen to land, including indentations in the frozen ground, scorch marks on the sides on the trees, and radiation levels subsequently assessed by the UK Ministry of Defense as “significantly higher than the average background”.

Airman First Class John Burroughs encountered the UFO at close proximity on the first night. While for many years the U.S. Government denied that this incident had even occurred, in 2006 the UK Government declassified an intelligence study on UFOs (codenamed Project Condign and classified as Secret UK Eyes Only) in which the following statement is found:

The well-reported Rendlesham Forest/Bentwaters event is an example where it might be postulated that several observers were probably exposed to UAP [Unidentified Aerial Phenomenon] radiation for longer than normal UAP sighting periods.

John Burroughs was one of those observers who was exposed to UAP radiation in the Rendlesham Forest in December 1980.  However, despite having been exposed to UAP radiation as postulated by the UK’s own intelligence report, the U.S. Government stonewalled John, his attorney, and two United States senators for years.  Now, after decades of persistence, the U.S. Government has finally acknowledged that John Burroughs suffered adverse health effects in the Rendlesham Forest and, therefore, has recognized the link between his health problems and the UFO he encountered.  In an interesting twist, John’s complete medical records file from that time he served in England remains classified.  In regard to the VA’s action on his case, John said:

In January of 2015, after years of exhaustive efforts the VA settled, in full, with me. I needed someone to champion my cause, someone not afraid to put themselves at risk to help me.  I was lucky.  I found two to champion my cause, my attorney Pat Frascogna, and Senator John McCain and his staff. Through their efforts, I received lifesaving heart surgery to replace a badly shredded anterior mitral valve caused by the UAP radiation, and a settlement from the DOD and VA admitting I was injured in the line of duty in December of 1980.

Former GI recalls West German UFO landing incident

A witness who served with in a West German weapons platoon for the U.S. Army recalls events from 1966 when a UFO landed near their training mission camp and entities were seen on the ground, according to testimony in Case 63699 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

The events played out in Grafenwöhr (Grafenwoehr) West Germany during the summer of 1966. Grafenwöhr was a major training area for N.A.T.O. forces and located close to the Czechoslovakian border.

The story is told here in the witnesses’ own words:

“I was in the weapons platoon of a rifle company in the (U.S.) Army. The weapons platoon was made up of four armored personnel carriers, which were 13-ton, lightly armored, tracked vehicles [M113]. Three of the APC’s were 81mm mortar gun crews, and the one I was in was the fire directions center. I was a driver at the time.

“We, approximately 14 men, were on a training mission out in the field by ourselves. The gun crews had set up their mortars and the fire directions center had laid in the guns, which is sighting them using aiming stakes for the gun crews to put their sights on.

“I was tired at dusk and rolled out my sleeping bag in a nice grassy area under a tree and beside my APC. Another sergeant did also. I went to sleep quickly.

“Three men, one on guard duty, were watching a star or light in the sky apparently pulsing with different colors. Two of the men went on to their sleeping bags and the guard stayed up. My squad leader was on radio watch because we had been warned we might have aggressors trying to sneak up on us that night.

“The next morning, I awoke to find several men talking in a group about not being woke up for guard duty. Just then my squad leader emerged from the APC and said he had fallen asleep at the radios for some strange reason. This had never happened to him before.

“My platoon sergeant, one of the three watching the light the previous night, told of being in a dream state and hearing the guard yelling frantically for help. The sergeant said he couldn’t move, but could hear.

“About 09:00 [AM] we heard and saw the guard that was on first watch coming down a hill about 200 yards away. When he reached us he was hysterical and crying. He said, ‘I thought all of you were dead.’ He then recounted his story.

“When two of the three men watching the star the previous night went to bed, the guard went toward the wood line, where we had set up camp. The guard then turned toward a clearing to the west of camp and said a craft had landed there in front of him. It had numerous lights of changing colors all down its side.

“The guard saw three figures emerge from the craft. The figures didn’t walk on the ground – they seemed to be floating just above the ground and bobbed side-to-side. The guard yelled for them to halt. When they didn’t stop, he thought about turning on his flashlight, but something in his head said ‘no’. The guard grabbed an aiming stake and tossed it at them. The guard was carrying a rifle but no live rounds were issued because they were not on a range at the time.

“He kept hearing a voice in his mind that said, ‘Don’t be afraid, we won’t hurt you.’ The guard heard one of the beings in the woods behind him and felt he was being trapped so he ran away. He came upon another group of GI’s some distance away and told them his story. He pleaded with them to come to our position and they wouldn’t. They assumed he was intoxicated on something.

“He stayed with them until morning and then came back toward our position. Looking down a hill he saw a silvery, cigar-shaped craft still where it landed the night before. He ran back to the other GI’s and again begged them to come with him. They again refused to come.

“He waited a few more hours and then came back to our camp when all of us saw him. He told us the story, and someone found the aiming stake he had thrown.

“The sergeant that slept a few yards from me said he had the strangest dream of being examined in a brightly lit operating room. He also said he had an awful headache in the top of his head. Along with this, the grassy area where we slept appeared to have had a core sample taken from it. A round spot of grass and dirt a few inches deep were missing. The platoon sergeant recalled hearing the guard yelling desperately for help but he could not move.

“My APC had the infrared lenses cracked and everything electrical was burned out. I remember the maintenance crew in our company asking what happened. They had never seen this kind of damage to a vehicle before. My APC had to be towed in to base that night, later to be sent back to Ordinance.

“The Colonel, our battalion commander, wanted some explanation for all of the damages. When he was told, he said he could not file an official report, because only one person was a witness to the event.

“My personal experience of that night involved a watch I was given for graduation. It was anti-magnetic and glowed in the dark, but that night it stopped working and glowing. I knew the guard who was on duty that night, and after the incident he was very emotionally disturbed. He was sent away and I never saw him again.

“I don’t have any recollections myself of that night, but I really would like to know what that was. I am leaving the other men’s names out for their privacy. In 1966, I was in US Army-A Company-2nd Battalion-21st Infantry-24th Division.”

Grafenwöhr  is a town in the district Neustadt (Waldnaab), in the region of the Upper Palatinate (German: Oberpfalz) in eastern Bavaria, Germany. It is widely known for the United States Army military installation and training area, called Grafenwöhr Training Area (Tower Barracks), located directly south and west of the town.

FBI destroyed thousands of UFO reports, 1949 memo reveals

Agents routinely destroyed reports containing 'nothing of FBI interest' due to lack of filing space

The FBI was so overwhelmed with sightings of flying saucers in the 1940s that agents routinely destroyed reports because of lack of filing space, according to documents released by the organisation.

The policy is outlined in a memo sent on 16 August 1949 to J Edgar Hoover, the director of the bureau, along with documents on UFOs compiled by agents after statements from witnesses.

The note, sent by an unnamed FBI agent in San Antonio, Texas, states that the office destroyed UFO reports on the grounds that they arrived "in great numbers" and contained "nothing of FBI interest".

"It is pointed out that the filing of these would result in the rapid accumulation of very bulky files," the memo continues.

The documents are among a batch of papers related to UFO sightings that has been made available through The Vault, the FBI's online records database.

In one intriguing note, sent on 22 March 1950, special agent Guy Hottel, head of the FBI's Washington field office, wrote to Hoover with information on three "so-called flying saucers" that a witness claimed had crash-landed in New Mexico.

According to the memo, an air force investigator stated that three flying saucers had been recovered in the area, along with the bodies of the alien crews. The memo goes on to add: "Each one was occupied by three bodies of human shape but only three feet tall, dressed in metallic cloth of a very fine texture. Each body was bandaged in a manner similar to the blackout suits used by speed flyers and test pilots."According to the witness, the saucers were brought down by a "high-powered government radar" in the area that interfered with the spaceships' controls. "No further evaluation was attempted," the memo concludes.

In 1947, an object that may have been a weather balloon crash-landed near Roswell, New Mexico, sparking an ongoing conspiracy that US officials captured an alien spacecraft.

In a separate incident, Hoover received an urgent teletype message from FBI agents in Salt Lake City, Utah, describing what appeared to be an explosion in the sky that was followed by "the falling of a silver-coloured object."

The sighting, recorded on 5 April 1949 by a guard at the army general supply depot in Ogden, Utah, was reported independently by a military officer and also a highway patrolman, who claimed to see a silver object explodeas it approached mountains at Sardine Canyon.

Later in the message, an assessment by the US air force office of special investigations linked the sightings to two B-29s that were practising extremely high-altitude bombing runs in the Utah desert.

Zeros, Commas & Moore

MJ-12 and Bill Moore

As I go through files and reports and other documents, I sometimes find a little item that was not very important a decade or two ago but that has taken on added significance. Such is a note about Barry Greenwood and the late Japanese UFO investigator Jun-Ichi Takanashi. Takanashi bought a copy of The Mystery of the Green Fireballs from Bill Moore which in and of itself isn’t all that exciting. Some of the documents that Moore had found were poor quality and difficult to read so that Moore, as apparently was his habit, retyped some of them to improve the legibility.

Takanashi wondered if the unusual dating format that Moore used in many of his letters and documents had been used in the original documents that Moore had retyped. That dating format was seen in some of them. Takanashi sent a query to Greenwood who then searched the Project Blue Book files until he located the original documents concerning the Green Fireballs. According to what Greenwood wrote in the June 1990 issue of Just Cause, “In all four cases where the documents were retyped, Moore had changed dates from the proper standard format to his own style by adding not only an extra comma to the dates but, in the case of the 9 February 1949 memo, a preceding zero before a single digit date where none had existed before!”

This is another bit of evidence that Moore had a hand in creating the MJ-12 documents. His unusual dating format has crept into other documents that he had admitted to retyping because of the poor quality of the originals. The two features, the extra comma and the use of the zero in front of the single digit dates, were not used by the military or the government at the time… For those who still believe that MJ-12 is authentic, this is just more evidence that it isn’t.

I should point out that Barry Greenwood printed this information twenty-five years ago so it has been out there for a long time. Although there are those who suggest they have found examples of government documents that reflect this bizarre dating format, it makes little difference because clearly Moore did use it. Besides, most of those other documents were created under special circumstances or by foreign military and government organizations. Apparently only Moore used it with any regularity and here it is another of his fingerprints on MJ-12. I wonder how many more we need.

British UFO encounter "gave me heart failure", says US airman after military chiefs agree to pay his medical bills

An American airman has won a legal bid to force military health chiefs to pay for the treatment of an illness allegedly caused by a UFO encounter in Suffolk.

Airman First Class John Burroughs was involved in an incident in Rendlesham Forest in December 1980 which has become known as "Britain's Roswell".

He was exposed to huge doses of radiation whilst investigating a mysterious craft and claimed this left him in need of "lifesaving" heart surgery.

After decades of being "stonewalled", he has finally persuaded the US Veteran's Association (VA) to pay for his treatment.

His lawyer hailed the dramatic legal about-turn as a "de facto" admission that UFOs exist and can cause "physical injury".

Burroughs told Mirror Online: "I was not looking for anyone to believe me.

"All I have been concerned about was getting care for my illness. That was all that mattered."

The Rendlesham Forest incident is one of the great unsolved UFO encounters of the 20th century.

Several members of the United States Air Force witnessed a strange craft flying overhead on three consecutive nights.

Burroughs and a colleague Jim Penniston ventured from their base to inspect the UFO at close range, with Penniston describing a strange silver craft covered in symbols which resembled heiroglyphics.

Shortly afterwards, Burroughs fell ill with symptoms resembling radiation exposure.

But the real problems started in 2011, when doctors were astonished after the mithral valve of his heart had failed - something which usually happens to men much older than 50-year-old Burroughs.

"I couldn't work and was going downhill fast," he continued.

Neither Burroughs nor his doctor were able to access his medical records, which were classified.

Burroughs even claimed the Air Force denied he was employed with them at the time of the UFO incident.

He asked for the help of presidential candidate Senator John McCain, who was also unable to get his hands on all the medical records.

Finally, Burroughs' legal team found two documents from the British Ministry of Defence which showed high levels of radiation were detected at the site where he encountered the mystery UFO.

The US Veterans Association and Department of Defence then agreed to pay for his treatment.

"I'm still trying to work out what I saw," Burroughs said. "I think this is a phenomenon the government is aware of, but are still trying to work out exactly what it is.

"We had a very weird experience. There is clearly something strange going on."

Burroughs' lawyer said the ruling was effectively an admission that UFOs are real.

"In citing the [MoD radiation documents] and in granting John Burroughs full disability for his injuries in Rendlesham Forest, the US Government has by de facto acknowledged the existence of unidentified aerial phenomena which, in John Burroughs' case, resulted in physical injury," Pat Frascogna said in an email.

Nick Pope, a researcher who spent several years investigating UFOs as a employee at the MoD, told us: "I think this development is hugely significant, whatever you believe about UFOs.

"One moment the US government was saying that nothing happened, but the next, John Burroughs and his attorney get hold of a formerly classified report that says John was probably irradiated by something in Rendlesham Forest."

However, Pope is still baffled about what exactly happened that December night in 1980.

We have asked the Veteran's Association for comment.

VA agrees to Pay for Injuries From Rendlesham UFO!

Ever since the encounter 30 plus years ago the health of the two men who approached the craft have baffled doctors. Now after years of legal battles, sealed and classified medical records and denial from the government the VA as agreed to pay the medical bills and admit that something happened to these men where they were exposed to high levels of radiation.

In the early morning hours of December 26th, 1980, in Rendlesham Forest 26 year old Sgt. James Penniston was part of the three man USAF Security Police team called to investigate the landed craft of unknown origin in Rendlesham Forest. The men with Sgt. Penniston, were A1C John Burroughs and A1C Ed Cabansag. Only Penniston and Burroughs went into the woods to investigate the landed craft, Cabansag stayed near the truck as a radio relay for the men.

Cabansag watched the mysterious pulsating multicolored lights in forest, while his two team members headed out on foot. As Penniston and Burroughs approached the unusual lights, they noticed abnormal sensations on their hair, skin and clothing. It seemed as though the air was electrically charged. Also, a time distortion occurred. According to the men, time seemed as though is slowed and it was difficult to move. Another odd characteristic, was everything was void of sound.

Now visible, the craft was sitting silently at the bottom of a berm, on the pine forest floor. Penniston cautiously approached the non aero dynamic, triangular, black, glassy craft. It was like nothing he had ever witnessed before or since. The craft had patterns of blue, yellow and red colors running through the surface as though part of the craft. It was very difficult to put into words what he was witnessing. Sgt. Penniston was versed in all types of aircraft, He was a United States Air Force trained aircraft observer and crash investigator. As part of his USAF advanced training he studied both the NATO and WARSAW PACT inventories of aircraft.

His up-close investigation of the craft included photographs, measurements and drawings, which he recorded into his USAF issued notebook. He took special note of the strange pictorial type markings on the side of the craft.
These glyphs were logged by Sgt. Penniston.

When Sgt. Penniston put his hand on the etched symbols, which felt like sandpaper compared to the rest of the smooth molded surface, everything became a brilliant bright white. He could neither see nor hear. He was alone in a brilliant bright white light.

This occurred for an undetermined amount of time then his sight returned. He was standing next to the craft, facing the pictorial glyphs. The craft started to turn a vivid bright white color. So bright in fact, Sgt. Penniston thought it was going to explode. He took a defensive position nearby as the craft was engulfed in the light. The craft then lifted off approximately four feet from the ground, maneuvered between the trees, ascended to tree top level and disappeared in the blink of an eye.

Both men developed a variety of serious health ailments soon after their encounter, many of which continue more than 30 years later. Burroughs, 52, developed life threatening heart problems soon after the encounter, received a pacemaker and carries a defibrillator with him.

Within three weeks of the encounter both soldiers had difficulty walking from inner ear and eye problems and months later Penniston’s gums “turned white,” a sign of heavy radiation exposure.

Since then he has had health problems and suspects that his UFO experience may have contributed to his condition. He says, “I have specific medical symptoms that are considered by some very knowledgeable people to be a fingerprint of a specific kind of radiation.”

In December of 2013 a Freedom of Information Act Request (FOIA) he made prompted the MoD to release newly found documents.

Its not unusual that someone who worked on classified projects in the military would have records withheld. In these cases the military typically settles and grants disability. However, these are individuals who knowingly working on classified projects. Burroughs was not working on classified projects. However, the government is not required to say why military records have been classified or by whom.

And the Mystery continues to this day with recent sightings like this one in January of this year!

NASA eyes ion engines for Mars orbiter launching in 2022

NASA officials want the agency’s next Mars orbiter to pull double duty as a communications relay station for a fleet of surface landers and as a trailblazer for a future round-trip sample return mission and human expeditions to the red planet.

Worried its fleet of Mars orbiter is aging, NASA intends to dispatch the spacecraft to the red planet in September 2022 to link ground controllers with rovers and extend mapping capabilities expected to be lost when the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter stops functioning.

Engineers also want to add ion engines to the orbiter and fly the efficient electrically-powered thruster system to Mars for the first time, testing out a solar-electric propulsion package that officials say will be needed when astronauts visit the red planet.

Ion engines produce just a whisper of thrust, using electric power to ionize atoms of a neutral gas and spit out the particles at high speed. While the drive given by the thrusters is barely noticeable in one instant, they can operate for months or years, burning scant fuel compared to traditional chemical rockets.

A Mars orbiter launching in 2022 is a prime candidate to test out new technologies — like ion drive engines, better solar arrays, and lightning-fast broadband communications between Earth and Mars — to help scientists return samples from the Martian surface, and eventually send humans there, according to Charles Whetsel, who oversees formulation of future Mars missions at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California.

“The ability to do round-trip missions, including robotic sample return, but also paving the way for human exploration, is a very high priority for the agency,” Whetsel said in a Feb. 24 meeting of the Mars Exploration Program Analysis Group, a panel of scientists chartered by NASA to help plan future scientific research at the red planet.

A rover NASA plans to send to Mars in 2020 will scoop up rock samples and store them for retrieval on a later mission. An orbiter with ion engines to get the material back to Earth will come later, along with a rocket to launch the specimens from Mars into space for pickup by the return craft.

Adding solar-electric propulsion to the 2022 Mars mission would allow the probe to swoop through different orbits around the red planet, passing by the Martian moons Deimos and Phobos and through a so-called “areostationary” orbit about 11,000 miles above the Mars equator.

The areostationary orbit is similar to the type of orbit around Earth used by communications satellites, which circle the planet at the same speed as its rotation, appearing to hover over a fixed location.

Such an orbit is ideal for communications, but most scientific observations of Mars require a closer viewpoint.

That is not a problem with solar-electric propulsion, said Robert Lock, who is leading the concept studies for the 2022 orbiter.

An orbiter equipped with ion engines — and highly-efficient solar panels to generate the power for the thrusters — would likely launch into a high-altitude Earth orbit, then fire its electric rocket jets to gradually break free of Earth’s gravity and fly to Mars. Instead of the usual transit time of less than a year, it might take two years for a probe with ion propulsion to get to the red planet, where it would initially enter a looping orbit far from Mars, before using its electric engines spiral closer.

“(Solar-electric propulsion) is easy,” Lock told NASA’s Mars science panel Feb. 24. “It’s like an electric light switch. You turn the motor off, do some science, turn the motor back on and continue spiraling. Doing science on the way through the Mars system is actually a very easy thing to do, and you’ve got loads of power to do it with.”

Lock said in-space electric propulsion — thought of as an unproven cutting edge technology not long ago — is now mature enough to rely on for a robotic mission to Mars. He said the 2022 probe could mark the start of a new generation of Mars orbiters, much like the way the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter — with its telescopic imaging camera, sounding radar and large size — represented a leap in capabilities when it lifted off in 2005.

NASA’s Dawn spacecraft now approaching the dwarf planet Ceres would not be possible without ion engines, and a pair of Boeing-built communications satellites launched just Sunday using only xenon-ion propulsion to complete their missions.

“In the decade since MRO was launched and got to Mars, significant new things have happened,” Lock said. “Deep Space 1 and Dawn proved that electric propulsion can be taken out into the solar system and used successfully. In the meantime, our commercial friends were using electric propulsion to replace complex and risky chemical propulsion systems to do their jobs easier and more cheaply for telecom satellites.”

NASA could elect to send an orbiter to Mars with conventional liquid-fueled propulsion system, purely as a replacement for the communications relay and scientific survey capacity from previous missions.

But Whetsel and Lock said infusing the 2022 mission new technologies like electric propulsion or high-speed optical communications would expand the orbiter’s scientific output while simultaneously paving the way for later voyages.

“Getting to Mars and then getting back again with sample return is turning out not to be so much of a challenge if we start off with a solar-electric propulsion type basis,” Lock said.

According to Lock, one orbiter design under discussion is based on the probe NASA has proposed sending to collect an asteroid and return it to the vicinity of the moon for a visit by astronauts. The Mars mission model based on the asteroid retrieval mission would have enough power from its ion engines to launch to the red planet and return to Earth, and still fit in the envelope of a Falcon 9 or low-end Atlas 5 rocket, he said.

Officials said all the concepts under consideration for the 2022 mission are targeted to cost between about $500 million and $1 billion, in line with NASA’s most recent Mars orbiters. If the orbiter includes things that apply to future human expeditions to Mars, the cost could be shared among NASA’s science, human exploration and space technology divisions, which each have their own funding lines.

Lock pitched using ion drives on the 2022 mission to the Mars science community by highlighting how the orbiter could support more scientific sensors than existing probes. The electric thrusters are power-hungry, requiring upgraded solar panels to charge the spacecraft’s batteries, but that leaves extra power for research instruments when the engines are switched off.

“We have a lot of capability, and the trick is going to be dialing in who wants what out of the mission, who is going to contribute what to the mission, and how do we share the landscape in terms of funding all the things we want to do,” Lock said.

NASA also has a more logistical reason behind the mission: Officials are not sure how many of the space agency’s existing orbiters will still be working by the early 2020s.

Launch opportunities for Mars missions are spaced approximately 26 months apart, when the planets are properly aligned to make the interplanetary journey feasible.

Engineers will spend the next year studying several concepts for the 2022 mission, and officials hope to finalize the orbiter’s purpose and architecture in time to kick off development by the end of 2016, according to Jim Watzin, head of NASA’s Mars exploration program at NASA Headquarters.

NASA’s network of spacecraft circling Mars — currently consisting of the Mars Odyssey probe, the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, and the MAVEN mission — may be whittled down to as few as one by 2022.

Besides science data collected by the orbiters, the spacecraft are critical to support landers and rovers parked on the Martian surface. They relay signals between Earth and the craft on Mars, enabling the return of imagery, data and telemetry at a much faster rate than possible with direct links.

“One of my biggest worries is some of our spacecraft are getting old,” said Fuk Li, director of Mars programs at JPL. “Looking into the early ’20s and having an orbiter around (Mars) to provide a rejuvenation of communications and reconnaissance capability is one of the critical things we can add to the program. It provides a lot more resiliency and robustness to how we do operations around Mars.”

Mars Odyssey — in orbit since October 2001 — is battling problems with reaction wheels it uses for pointing, and MRO will mark a decade since its launch later this year. MAVEN is a newcomer to Mars after it arrived in September.

The European Space Agency’s Mars Express mission is also in orbit and can beam back data from the rovers, but it has been at Mars since December 2003.

The next two U.S. missions to Mars will go to the surface. The InSight lander will launch in March 2016 and measure seismic activity from a stationary position near the Martian equator, and modified copy of the Curiosity rover is set to blast off toward the red planet in July 2020.

The focus on surface missions leaves a gap in new U.S. orbiters.

ESA is in the final stages of building a methane-sniffing orbiter for launch on a Russian Proton rocket in January 2016. It will host a U.S.-made Electra radio package to connect with the Curiosity and Opportunity rovers, giving them a new conduit to send back results to scientists on Earth.

India’s Mars Orbiter Mission, which reached the red planet in September, does not carry the radio system required for linkups with the rovers.

“Although there’s a lot of open territory and a lot of landscape to be explored in the coming decade, we’ve done enough exploration of that to understand that building from the 2020 surface mission … it feels like the right thing to do is to move forward with an orbiter mission concept,” Whetsel said.

“We’ve been exploring what that orbiter might look like,” Whetsel said. “We don’t have one firm concept. We’ve got a family of concepts, but we know enough about those now to reach out to the science community and talk about the different capabilities that orbiter might have.”

The Putakawagan UFO picture Real or fake ?

This is the picture that i want your opinion on.

It shows us what looks like a disc shaped object with the classic "dome" in the middle.

The Guy that took the picture said that it "jumped" out of the sky and was hanging in the air just long enough til he could take a picture, and then it flew up and out through the skies again.

Whats your thoughts on it ??

In een vorig ¨onderzoek van lichtverschijnselen bij UFO´s met MHD propulsie ¨werd het spectrum besproken van het zogenaamde Bubba fenomeen op 7 Februari 1992 in Gulf Breeze (Florida –USA) .

             Hieruit is gebleken dat er een duidelijk verschil is tussen spectra van een UFO fenomeen en dat van een pyrotechnisch gebeuren waarbij door verbranding van stoffen lijnen optreden in het spectrum. Een typisch voorbeeld hiervan zijn de chinese ballonnen die tijdens festiviteiten wel eens worden opgelaten en die door sommige waarnemers voor UFO´s worden aanzien.

            In de studie van het Bubba fenomeen werd voor het pyrotechnisch voorbeeld de fakkel genomen ,dewelke zeer dikwijls door de Amerikaanse Luchtmacht als uitleg voor een UFO waarneming gebruikt wordt ,maar waarbij   de optredende spectraallijnen dan wel voorkomen in het spectrum als   verbrandingsproducten van Strontium en Barium .

            Voor het spectrum van een UFO en dat van een fakkel werd voor beide overwegend rood en groen , constant in amplitude voor het UFO fenomeen en gerafeld voor de fakkel opgemerkt vermits de verbranding met horten en stoten plaatsgrijpt, en voor beide een zwakke inhoud aan blauw.

            Wat opvalt is dat de gele kleur niet optreedt in het UFO spectrum

Deze karakteristiek werd als eigen aanzien voor het UFO gebeuren en als kenmerk voor een UFO spectrum vooropgesteld .

Het is nu zo dat uit spectrummetingen uitgevoerd op het Hessdalen fenomeen en de daarop uitgevoerde analyses door de ploeg van de Italiaanse Dr Massimo Teodorani op het typische ¨doublet¨ verschijnsel dit voor Bubba vooropgestelde UFO spectrum bevestigt. Een overwegende rood-groene inhoud treedt immers op in de verschillende opnames. Beide meetgegevnes respectievelijk van het Bubba fenomeen in Gulf Breeze in 1992 en deze van het Hessdalen spectraalonderzoek vertonen een duidelijk ontbreken van geel in het spectrum.

            Een spectrum met spectraallijnen van een Natrium lamp doet dienst als referentie . Een continu spectrum wordt tevens afgebeeld van een autolamp zowel als 2 Hessdalen spectra van een doublet

            De conclusie omtrent de spectraalinhoud voor een typisch UFO fenomeen is slechts mogelijk geworden door deze vergelijkende studie tussen Bubba en Hessdalen.
