Scientist ‘solves’ mystery of the Bermuda Triangle – by claiming there was no mystery in the first place
Scientist ‘solves’ mystery of the Bermuda Triangle – by claiming there was no mystery in the first place
Karl Kruszelnicki says everything can be explained by human error, bad weather, and heavy air and sea traffic – not alien abduction or energy beams from the lost city of Atlantis
Defying 70 years of fevered speculation, a sceptical scientist has dared to declare that the mystery of the Bermuda Triangle has been ‘solved’ – by claiming there was no mystery in the first place.
Karl Kruszelnicki has insisted the reason why so many ships and planes vanish without trace in the area between Bermuda, Florida, Puerto Rico is nothing to do with aliens or fire-crystals from the lost city of Atlantis.
Instead, the Australian scientist ‘revealed’, the high number of disappearances is explained by nothing more supernatural than plain old human error plus bad weather and the fact that lots of planes and ships enter that area of the Atlantic Ocean in the first place.
Mr Kruszelnicki told news.com.au that not only does the Bermuda Triangle - (aka ‘Hodoo Sea’, ‘Devil’s Triangle’, ‘Limbo of the Lost’ and other headline-friendly monikers) – cover a large, 700,000 square-kilometre (270,000 square-mile) swathe of ocean, it is also a particularly busy patch of sea.
“It is close to the Equator, near a wealthy part of the world – America - therefore you have a lot of traffic,” he said.
So, said Mr Kruszelnicki, when you then compare the number of disappearances to the large quantity of ships and planes passing through the Bermuda Triangle, you find there is nothing out of the ordinary about the area at all.
“According to Lloyd’s of London and the US Coastguard,” he said, “The number that go missing in the Bermuda Triangle is the same as anywhere in the world on a percentage basis.”
Sydney University for communicating science to the broader community, also said there were simple explanations for the disappearance that did the most to start the whole Bermuda Triangle speculation: the loss of “Flight 19.”
This was a flight of five US Navy TBM Avenger torpedo bombers that set off from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on December 5 1945 for a routine two-hour training mission over the Atlantic.
After losing radio contact with their base, all five planes vanished. No trace of them or their 14 crew members was found.
Even more spookily, it was later claimed, a PBM-Mariner seaplane dispatched that night on a search-and-rescue mission to find Flight 19 also disappeared, along with its 13 crew.
In the absence of either knowledge or fact-checking, speculation about Flight 19 became a growth industry, especially after 1964, when the writer Vincent Gaddis advanced his theories in an article entitled The Deadly Bermuda Triangle.
“Whatever this menace that lurks within a triangle of tragedy so close to home,” he wrote, “It was responsible for the most incredible mystery in the history of aviation - the lost patrol.
“This relatively limited area is the scene of disappearances that total far beyond the laws of chance. Its history of mystery dates back to the never-explained, enigmatic light observed by Columbus when he first approached his landfall in the Bahamas.”
As well as pointing out that Lloyd’s of London would disagree with Gaddis’ statistical analysis, Mr Kruszelnicki also offered simple explanations for the loss of Flight 19.
For a start, he said, despite Gaddis suggestion the patrol vanished in ideal flight conditions, “It wasn’t fine weather, there were 15m (49ft) waves.”
Mr Kruszelnicki added that the only truly experienced pilot in the flight was its leader, Lieutenant Charles Taylor, and his human error may well have played a part in the tragedy.
“[He] arrived with a hangover, flew off without a watch, and had a history of getting lost and ditching his plane twice before,” said Mr Kruszelnicki.
Radio transcripts from before the patrol vanished, he added, made it clear that Flight 19 had become unsure of its position.
The transcripts show Lt Taylor thought his compass had malfunctioned and that he was above Florida Keys - a string of islands stretching to the southwest of the US mainland - when in fact later analysis by ground staff would show he was to the southeast, near an island in the Bahamas.
Mr Kruszelnicki said Lt Taylor overruled a junior pilot who said they should turn west, and insisted the patrol fly east, unwittingly taking them further into the Atlantic, above deep water where it might be harder to find sunken planes or bodies.
“If you read the radio transcripts,” said Mr Kruszelnicki, “Some of the junior pilots are saying, ‘Why don’t we fly to the west?’, and the pilot says, ‘Why don’t we fly to the east?’”
Even more damningly for the Bermuda Triangle ‘mystery’, said Mr Kruszelnicki, was the fate of the search-and-rescue seaplane that according to Gaddis and others also vanished.
“It didn’t vanish without a trace,” said Mr Kruszelnicki. “[It] was seen to blow up.”
There were several witnesses to the explosion; an oil slick and debris were found; and after the disaster, the US Navy grounded all other PBM-Mariner seaplanes. The aircraft had already gained the ominous nickname ‘flying gas tanks’.
It remains to be seen, however, whether Mr Kruszelnicki, a popular science pundit on Australian TV and radio, will succeed in his attempt to close down the Bermuda Triangle ‘mystery’.
Very similar efforts have been made in the past.
Lloyd’s of London has been saying that Bermuda Triangle disappearances occur at the same rate as everywhere else since at least 1975.
That, however, was a bad year for Bermuda Triangle debunking, because Charles Berlitz’s book The Bermuda Triangle, published in 1974, was on its way to selling 20 million copies in 30 languages.
By 1977 the Bermuda Triangle had gained such mass appeal that Steven Spielberg included references to it in his avowedly fictional film Close Encounters of the Third Kind, which depicted the crews of Flight 19 as having been abducted by aliens.
Seemingly undaunted, Lloyd’s of London has regularly repeated its claims about the unremarkable nature of the Bermuda Triangle.
In 1997 a spokesman backed up the claim that “There are just as many losses as in other wide expanses of ocean”, by adding that insurance premiums for voyages through the Bermuda Triangle were no higher than for any other routine sea journey.
This, however, had little noticeable effect.
The theories have proliferated, despite the fact that Gaddis’ Deadly Bermuda Triangle article had been published in an American magazine that sometimes promoted itself as “the magazine of masterpiece fiction”.
And despite the fact that Berlitz’s bestseller linked the Mary Celeste to the Bermuda Triangle, even though the ship had been found abandoned off the Azores, on the other side of the Atlantic, and its New York-Italy route would have taken it nowhere near the triangle.
It is now possible to go online and find theories that dismiss such absurd notions as planes and ships disappearing into some sort of black hole or time warp within the Bermuda Triangle, and instead explain: “The Bermuda Triangle is situated more or less in the middle of an area of the Atlantic Ocean that once housed Atlantis.
“When Atlantis was destroyed it sank to the very bottom of the ocean. While the ruined temples now play host to multitudinous underwater creatures, the great Atlantean fire-crystals that once provided so much of the tremendous power and energy that was found in Atlantis still exist.
“And they are still emitting strong energy beams into the universe.
“From time to time, the force field emitted by these damaged Atlantean fire-crystals becomes very powerful and any plane or ship coming within the influence of this force field disintegrates and is transformed into pure energy.”
New theories are constantly being put forward, some with a kernel of scientific truth to them.
Some have attributed Bermuda Triangle disappearances to explosive releases of methane gas, trapped as methane hydrate inside an icy crystalline cage of water molecules beneath the cold seabed of the deep ocean.
Such blowouts, it has been suggested, could release a giant plume of gas that could cause the sea to bubble like it was boiling, sinking ships because the resulting foam was much less dense than the water on which vessels normally floated.
The gas could also rise into the sky, producing a mixture of 5-15 per cent methane that would explode on contact with a hot aeroplane engine exhaust.
One United States Geological Survey scientist consulted on this theory admitted a gas hydrate blowout could indeed sink ships in the manner described.
The only problem, he said, that the most recent naturally-occurring hydrate gas blowout off the south-eastern US “probably occurred at the end of the glacial episode … about 15,000 years ago or more, when the more technically advanced men's ships were probably nothing more than hollow logs.”
Claims have emerged that a man said he had driven the Roswell UFO on a truck.
Investigators at the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) received an anonymous letter about an incident in around 1982 that could have helped shed light on the ongoing mystery.
The Roswell myth has been at the heart of the UFO scene since in July 1947 the military sensationally announced in a press release it had found the remains of a crashed flying saucer in the desert nearby.
But the following day it retracted the statement, saying it was in fact a damaged US Air Force air balloon.
Witnesses later came forward to say there had been alien bodies within the "crashed craft", which along with the wreckage were allegedly taken to the mysterious top-secret Area 51 military base in Nevada.
The letter was sent to the US organisation in January, but details have just emerged after MUFON finished investigating the case.
It claims in around 1982, Jose “Che” Teran went into C&M tyre shop on Yarborough Drive in El Paso, Texas, as a customer, and told staff he was "personally involved in the Roswell Crash Incident."
A MUFON investigation report into the letter by Robert Spearing said: "According to the anonymous report sent to MUFON, Che said he was a truck driver with the US Army from an unknown location.
"He saw a damaged craft loaded onto his truck from viewing out his rearview mirrors. He saw a tarp covering it later.
"He was instructed by military personnel to sign a non-disclosure statement saying he saw nothing at risk of losing his military pension."
The letter said the story was overheard by a mechanic at C&M.
Che was said to be a regular customer, and would often tell staff the story.
The anonymous letter writer said it had been relayed to him by an employee of C&M.
MUFON, the world's biggest organisation dedicated to UFO and alien research, has concluded investigating the claims.
He saw a damaged craft loaded onto his truck from viewing out his rearview mirrors. He saw a tarp covering it later.
Anonymous letter to MUFON
Investigators located Jose Che Teran’s stepson Fernando Jimenez, 77, and asked if he knew the story of the Roswell incident with his stepdad’s participation.
However, he was unable to find any living C&M staff.
The report said: "Mr Jimenez, frail and ailing, was sincere and cooperative. However, his knowledge was minimal.
"He could not recall the branch of service his step father was employed with.
"He also stated that he was well aware of the Roswell Crash Incident through television and newspaper accounts but his step-father never discussed the story with him."
MASTER SGT. ROSE REYNOLDS, U.S. AIR FORCE, WIKIMEDIA COMMONS // PUBLIC DOMAIN
Area 51 may be the world’s most famous secret military base. Established on an abandoned airfield in the Nevada desert, the facility has fueled the imaginations of conspiracy theorists scanning the skies for UFOs for decades. But the truth about Area 51’s origins, while secretive, isn’t as thrilling as alien autopsies and flying saucers.
According to Business Insider, the U.S. government intended to build a base where they could test a top-secret military aircraft without drawing attention from civilians or spies. That aircraft, the U-2 plane, needed to fly higher than any other manmade object in the skies. That way it could perform recon missions over the USSR without getting shot down.
How the U-2 Aircraft Made Area 51 Synonymous With UFOs
Bob Lazar, 58, said he reverse engineered recovered crashed alien flying saucers to try to develop their anti-gravity flying systems, at the mysterious base, which is guarded by armed security.
He spoke of UFOs being hidden in hangars carved out of the mountain sides close to the Nevada military base which is tucked away in the desert.
Mr Lazar's claims have divided the UFO community ever since, with many believing he a credible whistleblower, while others say he is a fantasist who has been debunked.
Now, two brothers claim they may have found something near Area 51, that sounds similar to what Mr Lazar described.
GETTY
Claims have been made this could be the hiding place of the Roswell UFO at Area 51
The US Government did not acknowledge the existence of Area 51 until 2013, but it is now commonly accepted research is done their on new USAF spy craft.
However, conspiracy theorists are convinced that if flying saucers have ever crashed on Earth, the wreckage and alien bodies have been secretly taken to storage in Area 51.
One long-running claim is a UFO that allegedly crashed in the New Mexico desert near Roswell in 1947 and it is now stored at Area 51.
Blake and Brett Cousins run YouTube channel Thirdphaseofmoon, which runs videos about UFOs and aliens.
The brothers claim they have found what they believe could be a “UFO hangar” buried into the mountains nearby to the base, reports Dailystar.co.uk.
They used Google Earth to show aerial images of the strange sighting.
Blake said: “Right in this mountain range, if you see this driveway it seems to lead to some kind of hidden underground entrance.
“Are these two entries to a base within this mountain range?
“Are they harvesting minerals out of this mountain or is this an entrance to a military base?
“These are never-before-seen images. Is this a possible entrance where they’re hiding the UFOs and flying saucers recovered from Roswell?”

The brothers' clip has been seen more than 35,000 times since it was posted.
One viewer said: "Whatever they have hidden from people there, must be huge.”
Another said: “The mountain itself looks almost like an alien craft.”
A third added: “That underground facility might be used for the storage of nuclear weapons or nuclear waste.”
Mr Lazar's claims have been looked into by UFO researches and many claim that his alleged educational background does not stand up, as facilities he claims to have attended have no record of him.
However, Mr Lazar counter claimed his record had been wiped by the security services in a bid to discredit him.
Thirdphaseofmoon has also come in for its own criticism by UFO debunkers.
Third Phase of Moon features on a number of UFO website and YouTube channel black lists created by sceptical ufologists, who claim they have screened hoax and misrepresented footage.
The brothers deny this, claiming to be genuine researchers.
However, this month, they release a video alleging to show a new UFO just outside Dos Palos off Interstate 5 in California.
Yet, Scott Brando, who runs hoax-busting website ufoofinterest.org, says he tracked down the original footage... and it was a confirmed weather balloon filmed over Dos Palos, and videoed FIVE years ago

Triangle-shaped craft over Oregon
Triangle-shaped craft over Oregon
This triangle UFO was recently filmed over Oregon.
Witness report:
New capture over Oregon. Similar in shape to footage from 2011. Fortunately a star is noticed to help provide perspective and travel direction. Some frame by frame analysis of clearer images to notice the subtle changes about the lights such as colors changing on each corner to red and/or yellow. Other smaller and dimmer openings are hinted at but unfortunately the pixelated image doesnt prove definitive. Sorry the image stabilization is not as good on the camera as original. Captured at the last second while looking over my shoulder moving quietly…
Locals Baffle With Multiple UFO Sightings Across Cornwall
Locals Baffle With Multiple UFO Sightings Across Cornwall
A substantial evidence of alien life has been found over Cornwall as what some UFO hunters believed. Dozens of locals claimed to have seen a strange translucent, shimmering craft in the sky over the past week.
The bizarre event was first observed on Monday. Surfer Kiefer Krishnan caught the odd phenomenon on his Go-Pro camera and uploaded it to Instagram.
Since then, dozens of videos were uploaded to social media sites that were recorded in different locations across England’s southwestern tip.
Some suggestions state that it could be a flock of birds or insects. However, experts say that this is unlikely because it has the same shape over several days in similar locations.
Others say that it could be from the Eden Project performing a public stunt. The Eden Project is scheduled to open its new Journey Into Space attractions on this 27th of July 2017.
Eden Project spokesperson said that they have a galaxy of ways to the tell the story of space, coining a phrase that the truth is out there.
Wat onze these bevestigt."

Bennington pleegde afgelopen week zelfmoord.

THE CONSPIRACY OF SILENCE: UFO COVER UP, HUMAN SPACE FLEET, ALIEN WAR
THE CONSPIRACY OF SILENCE: UFO COVER UP, HUMAN SPACE FLEET, ALIEN WAR
We were born, and we live in a world we do not know. We do not know how it works and we live in it every day as we can, each of us. We have not been taught about the world we live in. We have not been taught to understand how it works, how the systems that make up it work.
Ever since ancient times, people have noticed that reality is relative and can change depending on many external factors. Starting from this theory, British philosopher Nick Bostrom developed a Matrix theory or even a digital prison.
An extraterrestrial race, possibly creative, reaching an impressive technological level and wanting to play God. In this way, the Universe was created, which is nothing more than a virtual reality programmed with the help of a supercomputer. This programmed reality develops and exists with the help of principles, which we call physical laws. But like most things, it's just a theory that can not be demonstrated for the moment, what is described as a theory of conspiracy.
Those who believe in aliens are wondering if "Anunnaki" are actually "gray aliens"; Otherwise, what would be the difference between these alien races?
Many researchers of UFOs and aliens, seem to agree that the Anunnaki aliens really represent a different race from gray aliens and that in many ways.
Grey aliens are described as an extraterrestrial race as extra-dimensional beings, and some believe that they were present in our solar system only as a result of the fact that Anunnaki were no longer active in this area.
However, several representations of gray extraterrestrials have been found in old cave drawings of various cultures, which could be proof that gray aliens have visited us since ancient times.
STATE-LEVEL TIES, BETWEEN PRESIDENTS AND ALIENS?
The first US president to start this series of contacts was Harry Truman. In 1949, he ordered the army to break down UFOs.
Eisenhower followed the same line. Kill UFOs, he ordered! This order was retired in 1950 when he realized that alien technology was advanced and the US could benefit from it.
Moreover, the US authorities realized that they could not bring down UFOs, given the spectacular tenology they were benefiting.
It is said that in 1950, Eisenhower had his first encounter with aliens, then changed his approach.
Jimmy Carter had promised in the election campaign that he would make light in this case. After becoming president, he was advised not to be involved or make statements, for reasons of security and national panic.
Ronald Reagan, when he was an actor and cast a movie on a hill in Los Angeles, was able to watch a UFO for 45 minutes with the shooting team.
Because of his state of health, memory loss, top secret information was no longer gaining. Decisions were taken on the back of power.
George Bush, formerly the head of the CIA, knew how to avoid this subject with elegance and keep it as secret as possible. Thanks to her friend, Laurence Rockefeller, who was interested in alien phenomena, Clinton has been asked many times about the connection between UFOs and the Air Force.
Diplomat, Clinton made a joke or changed the subject. Hillary asked Rockefeller not to open this topic in the presence of the president because he is a national security one.
Regarding Obama, he has been asked several times about this subject. With an accomplice smile, Obama responded with a joke.
DOES THE VATICAN ALSO BELIEVE IN ALIENS?
"It is possible that life also exists on other planets," said Reverend Jose Gabriel Funes, a 45-year-old Jesuit priest who is at the head of the Vatican's Astronomical Observatory and advises Benedict XVI.
In an interview published in the Vatican newspaper entitled "The alien is my brother," Funes said that the large number of galaxies and planets in the universe entitles people to imagine that life has developed elsewhere: "In such a great universe you can not rule out this hypothesis.
" He pointed out, however, that aliens are not an obstacle to faith in God: "Just as there is a multitude of creatures on Earth, some beings created by God, perhaps even intelligent, could populate other planets.
This does not contradict our faith because we can not limit the creative freedom of God. "
The testing of such experimental craft is believed to be responsible for the huge boom in flying saucer and UFO sightings across the US in the 1940s and 1950s.
The US ploughed £80million developing the Avrocar, but cash for the flying saucer eventually dried up in June 1961, and the doomed project was ditched.
Designs for the Avrocar were shelved after it was found to only be able to hover around one foot off the ground.
When it travelled at high speeds, it became extremely unstable and it was far too loud to be a combat vehicle.
What caused the massive explosion on the farside of the sun?
What caused the massive explosion on the farside of the sun?
On Sunday July 23, 2017 a spectacular CME emerged from the farside of the sun. Coronagraphs onboard the orbiting Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) tracked the fast-moving cloud as it billowed into space.
NASA's STEREO-A spacecraft, which has a partial view of the sun's farside, identified the source of the blast as active sunspot AR2665.
Sunspot AR2665 will be back on the Earth side of the sun a little more than a week from now. If the sunspot remains active, it could bring a new round of geomagnetic storms and auroras to our planet in early August, reports Spaceweather.
Hypothetical:
The source of the enormous explosion on the farside of the sun is not active sunspot AR2665 but a strange black rectangular anomaly inside the fast-moving cloud.
Now, if you look at the moment the explosion occurs and you follow the fast-moving cloud as it billowed into space then you see something strange inside the cloud that looks like a rectangular black box connected to a string of light (see image 1) above the anomaly. Next, it seems as the string of light anomaly (see image 2) changes into a solid structure as it emerges from the black anomaly before disappearing into space.
From 3.30 minutes to 3.40 minutes in the below video you can see the massive explosion and the alleged anomalies.
Without a doubt, the source is sunspot AR2665 and the strange anomalies are not what it seems to be. They are just the effect of the fast-moving cloud. But how is it possible that such a cloud can produce nearly 100% rectangular shapes?
Coincidentally, Sunday’s farside explosion occurred on the 5th anniversary of another significant farside event: The Solar Superstorm of July 23, 2012. That superstorm, which has been compared to the historic Carrington Event of 1859, could have caused widespread power blackouts if it had not missed our planet.
Once our astronomers eventually determine that we aren’t alone in the universe, and we finally get to meet “real” aliens, I wonder if we’ll all sit down and have “The Great Cosmic Powwow” with them; an intergalactic meeting of the minds, of sorts.
Among other things, maybe we’ll finally address the issue of UFOs, and ask our alien neighbors whether the phenomena so many have seen over the years had been them all along.
“No,” I imagine the aliens saying. “That isn’t us, but we have those things (UFOs) too. We were hoping you guys might know what they are.”
Since the end of the Second World War, UFOs have been a cultural staple, both in America, and elsewhere around the world. Many argue that these objects—whatever they are—predate the war, and that for a variety of reasons, they became more apparent to us during the years after the conflict. Reasons for this might include the development of new technologies, such as radar, in addition to advancements in existing areas, like aviation, which could have made an existing phenomenon more apparent to us. Alternatively, it could also be the case that certain technologies harnessed by humans during the war—the atom bomb, for instance—might have garnered the attention of other forms of intelligence, resulting in an increased presence here on Earth in response to a perceived threat… if not to protect us from ourselves.
Whatever the case, humankind harnessing the power of the atom represents a fundamental turning point in the history and development of life on Earth. It’s no wonder then, that it has figured into pop culture as prominently as speculative scenarios pertaining to UFO origins. Perhaps there is no place in recent memory where this was more apparent than in David Lynch and Mark Frost’s seminal television series, Twin Peaks.
With the original 1990s Twin Peaks series, Lynch and Frost managed to work in a number of esoteric or paranormal themes. Project Blue Book, for instance, is introduced via the spiritually-developed character named Major Garland Briggs, as well as references to the SETI program. Toward the end of the original series’ first season, Major Briggs visits the show’s protagonist, Special Agent Dale Cooper, and shows him a message featuring his name, which seemingly came from otherworldly intelligences (while resembling a binary read-out featuring messages from space, it is later determined that this message actually came from a forest near Twin Peaks, in association with entrance points to a pair of otherworldly locations known as the White and Black Lodges). And of course, the symbolism relating to owls (“the owls are not what they seem”) seems ever-present throughout the original Twin Peaks series; this parallels imagery seen in books like Whitley Strieber’s Communion, and more recently author Mike Clelland’s The Messengers.
In the recent Showtime reboot Twin Peaks: The Return, we revisit several of the show’s original characters and themes, although much has changed, particularly in terms of style and atmosphere. A number of reviews have commented about how the new series is decidedly more “Lynch” than its 1990s incarnation, drawing from elements of Lynch’s other work that include Eraserhead, Mulholland Drive, and Lost Highway, to name a few.
Kyle MacLachlan portraying Agent Dale B. Cooper
Granted, being “more Lynch” has also made the new series very different from its predecessor, and thus, some have struggled to get into the world of characters like “Dougie Jones” and some of the other new additions; all the while waiting, hoping… praying that some of the old, familiar quirkiness of Special Agent Dale B. Cooper and his cohorts will soon begin to reappear.
A particularly strange addition to the new series is its eighth episode, in which the viewer is taken on a bizarre, black-and-white trip through space, time, and an explosive alternative post-war history of the United States. The origin of “Bob,” the demonic bodiless killer from the original series, is seemingly explained, in that we see his essence born out of the initial tests of a nuclear weapon at White Sands, New Mexico.
Again, the parallel seems to be one which is similar to Ufology, in that with the arrival of humanity on the nuclear playground, strange phenomena also begins to appear on Earth (whether or not such things are overtly apparent at first). In UFO literature, we first called these things flying saucers; but in the realm of Twin Peaks, we have Bob, and seemingly in response, otherworldly characters like “The Giant” and his companion, the “Glamorous Woman” who resides with him in the Black Lodge, which seem to take note of what they see happening on Earth. In response to the explosion at White Sands, this ethereal pair produce and send an orange orb toward Earth which bears the essence of Laura Palmer, the femme tragique and focal point of the Twin Peaks universe; thus Laura Palmer, whose death serves as the focus for the original show’s first season, is shown to represent a kind of balance against Bob, and more broadly, the forces of good and evil held in the balance.
Actress Sheryl Lee, who portrayed Laura Palmer in Twin Peaks.
In the final minutes of the new series’ eighth episode, we are further treated to the appearance of a bizarre “frog-fly”, a mysterious young couple… and perhaps my favorite, a demonic Lumberjack who asks his victims if they’ve “GOTTA LIGHT?” before temporarily taking over a radio station, where he grabs the microphone and lapses into a bizarre poem about water, wells, horses, and utter darkness as he murders the night shift employees by applying crushing force to their craniums.
The entire sequence described above, utterly bizarre though it is, made episode 8 one of my favorites of the new series (oh, and of course, a performance by “The Nine Inch Nails”, as they are called during their introduction. Very cool). And let’s be clear: while we can extrapolate further on the parallels between Twin Peaks, the Atomic Age, and UFOs, I’m not entirely certain that anybody really knows what the “symbolism” Lynch was going for may have been. Hell, maybe Lynch himself doesn’t quite know.
In other words, we can’t be sure that all of the visual elements he incorporated were intentionally symbolic. Sometimes, I think that it’s safe with the arts to try that old method of, “throw it against the wall, and see what sticks.“ But what often results is that people attribute their own meaning to what they see thereafter, which makes it all the more meaningful when they watch it. We assign our own symbolism to the unique palate of weirdness that Lynch and Frost provide. Assigning our own symbolism to what we see makes it deeper, and more personal, as a viewing experience.
While the new series is certainly odd, and has already become renowned (if you want to call it that) for taking its sweet time, If we know Lynch, we know that he is the master of the slow-build. So I’m certain this will all pan out as intended, and fairly soon… hopefully. We still have a lot to enjoy along the way, but in the meantime, it is good to see that the program’s use of history and pop cultural references still keep us thinking about the more subtle instances of weirdness in life.
Australian scientist and popular TV science commentator Dr. Karl Kruszelnicki had that to say about a famous disappearance in 1945 of a military aircraft over the so-called Bermuda Triangle and would probably say this or something similar about most unexplained vanishings of planes and ships in the triangular area of the Atlantic most often defined as the waters between Miami, Bermuda and San Juan, Puerto Rico. In a recent interview with news.com.au, Dr. Kruszelnicki claimed he had solved the mystery of the triangle.
“According to Lloyds of London and the US coast guard, the number of planes that go missing in the Bermuda Triangle is the same as anywhere in the world on a percentage basis.”
That’s the starting point for his argument that there’s no mystery to the Devil’s Triangle. The area is an extremely busy corridor for both ships and planes between ports in North America, Europe and the Caribbean. However, the people who have to pay when things go wrong – the insurance companies – say the statistics show that it is no more or less dangerous than any other busy transportation passageway.
Based on the numbers, Dr. Kruszelnicki says planes and boats disappear in the Bermuda Triangle area for exactly the same reason as they do everywhere else … weather and operator error. He uses the famous 1945 vanishing of Flight 19 as an example. The training flight of five TBM Avenger torpedo bombers disappeared on December 5, 1945, somewhere in the triangle area. Dr Kruszelnicki notes that radio transcripts show that the squadron most likely ran out of fuel due to the inexperience of the junior pilots and navigational and judgmental errors made by Flight 19’s leader, Lieutenant Charles Taylor.
“(Lt. Taylor) arrived with a hangover, flew off without a watch, and had a history of getting lost and ditching his plane twice before.”
The mystery deepened at the time when a PBM Mariner flying boat rescue aircraft with a 13-man crew also disappeared. Dr Kruszelnicki points out that the weather was bad, the waves were high and the Mariner was prone to vapor leaks when fully fueled, which caused the planes to explode. Guess what happened, according to a tanker in the area?
“The plane that went to rescue then went missing was seen to blow up.”
It didn’t vanish without a trace. Dr. Kruszelnicki blames many of the Bermuda Triangle theories on Charles Berlitz, author of the 1974 book The Bermuda Triangle, who said “the people and planes and ships that have reportedly disappeared in the Bermuda Triangle have been victims of some sort of electromagnetic disturbances that cause them to disintegrate and fall into the sea.”
Does the Bermuda Triangle mystery needle point to Kruszelnicki, Berlitz or somewhere in the middle? Many Triangle vanishings like Flight 19 and its rescue plane have been explained by weather or errors. But not all of them. Statistics, trend analyses and extrapolations are excellent tools and reliable enough that Lloyds of London bets vast sums of money on them. But are they foolproof?
Who would you rather have planning your next Atlantic crossing – an actuary or an actual Bermuda Triangle believer?
CONFORM PROOF OF LIFE ON MARS' - SHOCK CLAIM AFTER 'ALIEN FOUND' IN NASA PICTURE
CONFORM PROOF OF LIFE ON MARS' - SHOCK CLAIM AFTER 'ALIEN FOUND' IN NASA PICTURE
Footage which claims to demonstrate a small alien peeping out from a rock on the scarlet Planet has gone viral online. The video post on YouTube by Paranormal Crucible is at liberty ‘Tiny Alien Spotted On Mars?’ The channel is said to have dotted the humanoid in images uploaded online by NASA from the Curiosity Rover droid which is scouring the outside for signs of life - but appear to have missed it.
Sign of life? A tiny alien or presently shading on a rock? A promotional blurb for the video said: "Interesting irregularity found by the rover, which looks like a little Martian. "I have colo rised the picture and added eyes to the head so its easier to see, but all is there in the original picture, whatever it is it looks humanoid, remind me of the Atacama Alien, about the similar size too, this one is around 6 inches." It is the newest in a series of alleged tiny aliens found in NASA images of Mars, and a number of alien chasers claim the planet could be occupied by tiny humanoids asa result. One of the believer is Scott C Waring, of Ufosightingsdaily.com. He blogged in a position entitled ‘6-Inch Alien Seen On Mars In NASA Photo, Absolute Proof Life exist On Mars, June 2016’: "This human-like figure is peering approximately the corner of a rock wall and I can make out its skull, chest, shoulders, arm, leg, knee, and foot from this one close up photo. "Paranormal Crucible say its about 6 inches...I agree. This is one of the species that once live on Mars and is still living there now, but in inferior numbers. The mysteries of Mars just keep enlightening themselves one by one."
Except Paranormal Crucible has been criticised for its use of digital, editing and treatment of images to make them come into view more like what is life form suggested. Sceptics argue these finds are presently simple cases of pareidolia where the brain trucks the eye into seeing family shape or matter in patterns or textures.
If you've been following social media posts from people in Cornwall over the last week, then you may think the alien invasion of Earth has begun in the English peninsula. Multiple seemingly unconnected people posted videos over Twitter and Instagram showing a strange, swarming formation hovering in the sky along with the hashtag #ufocornwall. But it wasn't aliens. It was likely the work of the Eden Project.
The Eden Project is a series of massive greenhouses in Cornwall with connected transparent domes filled with exotic plants. It's a visually stunning place and it's about to launch a new attraction called Journey Into Space, which includes an Astronaut Academy, an astronomy photography exhibit and something called "Alien Encounter."
The swarming UFO videos seem to have been orchestrated by the Eden Project as a publicity stunt tied into the alien-themed part of the experience.
The Eden Project describes the Alien Encounter as "An alien spaceship has crash-landed at Eden, and its inhabitants are stranded here. We're working on a way to communicate with these mysterious life-forms -- can you help us decode their signals and language?" It sounds a bit like the 2016 movie "Arrival."
A tweet on Monday with a short video showing the swarm-UFO beaming down to the Eden Project seems to confirm the origin of the social-media videos. The Eden Project has not yet responded to a request for comment.
As far as marketing stunts go, the UFO sightings is a decent one. The Eden Project had the good sense to create an interesting-looking alien presence that mimics natural phenomena like insect swarms or a starling murmuration. Some people will be disappointed to discover the hoax, but never fear, there will always be more UFO sightings to enjoy.
