Strange Huge Reddish Sphere Hovering Over Arkansas, California and South Africa
Strange Huge Reddish Sphere Hovering Over Arkansas, California and South Africa
In the past month, a witness came to report about the strange sighting that described as a reddish sphere appeared in the skies over South Africa and US. Due to its unusual appearance, a lot of people think that it is a planet Nibiru. This type of planet was referred by the Sumerians as Planet X because it supposedly our 10th planet in the solar system.
Fremont, California Sighting (June 15, 2015) At 8:16 pm, while the witness was driving home from work. As it crossed the Dumbarton bridge and at about 50mph, heading north on Paseo Padre, the witness got the urge to take a picture of the sunset. The spectator continued driving, rolled down the window and snapped few pictures with the phone. After then, the viewer had forgotten about it. On the next morning, upon reviewing the photos, solid, yellowish and half-circles are lens flares. But, the audience has never seen half circles as lens flares as always comes in solid shapes. Furthermore, the image moves in ways that do not correspond to lens flares.
South Africa Sighting (June 14, 2015) A witness captured sphere images as seen in the time-lapse video circulated on the internet.
Arkansas Sighting (June 14, 2015) As a resident of Arkansas, Vickie Acklin captured a series of images of twelve spheres. He reported seeing the strange image after the sun goes down and claimed that it was seen clearly and brightly with her naked eyes. The image was an intense and bright pink. Since it moved quickly, it went below the treeline minutes away and could no longer see it. The spectator used a good zoom lens and an excellent camera.
There is no sufficient proof of UFOs being a fact, but research is still going on. For believers, they hope to find beings other than humans in this galaxy.
UFO's are monitoring us: Military video shows UFO being pursued
UFO's are monitoring us, and the evidence is all around us!
If you are looking for proof of Alien life and extraterrestrial technology, this video might just be what you are looking for.
The video, taken by a Homeland Security helicopter with infrared, shows two Unidentified flying object in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico on the night of April 25, 2013.
On April the 25th at 21:22 local time (Puerto Rico), the air patrol of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection was making a routine patral when they ecnountered a UFO. The object was first seen by the captain then by the operator of the control tower.
The crew first believed that the object in question was some sort of smuggler and decided to pursue it and record using the IR camera. The UFO circled the Aguadilla airport and made his way to the ocean. The UFO changed its shape when it approached the ocean. The Unidentified flying object flew just above the surface of the water before entering the water without being affected by hydrodynamic forces.
Watch the video carefully at 1:24:39 minutes, the time is located in the upper left corner, when the object in question becomes dark (hot), at that moment another UFO comes out of the ocean and joins the first UFO in their original formation, after this, both submerge controllably into the ocean. Many would say that undoubtedly there is alien technology hidden under the oceans of planet Earth, and this video might just prove to be the best evidence out there.
The video in infrared, was recorded using a MX15 L3 EOIR camera using background IR heat, meaning that objects that are hot or give away energy are shown as dark objects.

DETAILED UFO ALIEN ORB SIGHTING IN SOUTH JERSEYJULY 11, 2015 ……….. NORTHFIELD NEW JERSEY
At approximately 9:45 pm, I was in my front yard, smoking a cigarette, sort of gazing across the street at my neighbor’s house. After a few moments, my eyes started to wander off to the left (westward) towards the bike path that is provided to us by our municipality.
As I started to look that way, I noticed something in the sky. I glanced up and instantly dropped my cigarette. Above the tree line on the bike path, there were two red objects hovering. They glowed a bright red light and seemed to flash and change colors from red to white. After a second or two of standing there, I ran inside to grab my iPhone so I could record this event. I work in television production and have been around drones for a lot of that work. I also fly weekly for my job. I’m in and around planes and airports and have been for the last 12 years. These objects were not drones. They were not planes. I took 2:30 mins of footage before my phone’s battery started to die. It was inside on the charger initially and was only around 5% charged when I took the footage. The two objects hovered for awhile, then one took off and flew away. Far away. They were both pretty large at first. Smaller than a full moon but much larger than a star. The one that flew away though did eventually become small enough that it looked like a star.
After a few more seconds, 20 maybe, the one that flew off – which was the one situated on the right hand side – reappeared on the left hand side, lower – again by the tree line and much larger. The two hovered again for about a minute. My phone was dying. I ran back inside to charge it and after a few minutes, I came back outside with my 3 year old son. We recorded another 20 seconds of footage and he – though very young and being a child – was able to identify the object and you can hear his voice call it “the flashing star”. I’m well educated. I work for a Fortune 500 company. I have a child and I’m an excellent father. I’ve been around drones and planes for my work. This was neither. My very first reaction was to run and grab a camera. That wouldn’t have been my reaction if I had ever seen anything like this before. It’s also important to note that Northfield is a very normal and pristine little borough outside of Atlantic City. The area here is quiet and family oriented and filled with decent people. This is not a hoax or a gimmick or some weird thing. I saw two UFO’s. These two objects hovered, flew, flashed bright red and appeared to travel great distances in very short time.
‘X’ is For Xtension: Area 51 Gets New Massive Hangar
‘X’ is For Xtension: Area 51 Gets New Massive Hangar
This month, NASA administrator Major Charles Bolden made the headlines of several media outlets, although not because of some major astronomical discovery or the announcement of an exciting new space mission. During a Q&A session with a group of British school children, Mr. Bolden was asked by one of them –10-year-old Carmen Dearing– whether he believed in aliens or not; his answer, of course, was the cookie-cutter “they are out there, somewhere” reply any NASA representative usually gives, and the fact he didn’t even bother to mention UFOs is a veiled indicative of the official contempt for the phenomenon.
Curiously enough, Major Bolden also mentioned the existence of Area 51 in that same event –though the newspapers carrying the story were scarce on details regarding what kind of question prompted his admittance; perhaps it shouldn’t surprise us even the younger generations are privy to the infamous military base, given how it’s even been used as a gag in the Looney Tunes’ 2003 film Back in Action.
Major Bolden had this to say to Her Majesty’s younger subjects about the best-known secret place in the world:
“There is an Area 51,” he said. “It’s not what many people think. I’ve been to a place called that but it’s a normal research and development place. I never saw any aliens or alien spacecraft or anything when I was there.
“It thinks because of the secrecy of the aeronautics research that goes on there it’s ripe for people to talk about aliens being there.”
I took umbrage with Bolden’s remarks at The Daily Grail, because they made the Groom Lake Air Force base look like just a regular, run-of-the-mill facility where uncle Sam carries out ordinary, albeit sensitive stuff –kind of like an IRS office in the middle of the desert!– but if it’s such a normal place, why all the secrecy?
There are many military installations in the United States which allow guided tourist visits inside their premises. But Dreamland will never be among those, despite what Mr. Bolden’s words would make us or the kiddies believe; and that’s because even though Area 51 has apparently turned into a laughing stock to the rest of the world, and the 2 digits have permeated every instance of our pop culture, the top-secret base is STILL very much operational and as busy as ever.
Proof of that is a humongous new hangar which is just about to be completed, located at the south of the base and away from the rest of the other buildings. The first one who made me aware of this was Mr. Norio Hayakawa, a seasoned UFO and Area 51 researcher, who’s been investigating the mysteries surrounding Groom Lake with a very skeptical eye –Norio is definitely NOT a fan of the ETH. He was even able to come up with a link to the latest satellite images of this new hangar, at the TerraServer aerial imagery service.
As of June 29th of 2015, feeding Google Earth with the TerraServer coordinates does not show the new hangar, which in understandable given the free software is still using 2002 images in that area. Google Earth was still useful to one of Norio’s contacts to try and get a rough estimate of the hangar’s size, which he calculates to have an area of about 46,200 square feet.
The Aviation-dedicated website Foxtrot Alpha have also taken notice of Terraserver’s new images, and have been speculating about the possible purpose of this new massive building since 2014, in two-part post [1] [2]. I’m no Aviation expert, but common sense makes me agree with both Foxtrot Apha’s analysis that whatever the Air Force is pretending to store inside their new hangar has to be a) rather large; and b) very sensitive.
A new hypersonic prototype perhaps, capable of surpassing the SR-71 Blackbird’s Cold War-era speed records?
One of those hybrid blimp-like ships intended to carry large amount of cargo and personnel to the battlefront, or conduct surveilance during extended missions?
Or what about something a bit more exotic, like the supposedly super secret aerial vehicles which are said to be behind so many sightings of huge, black, triangled UFOs? Here we enter the mined field of the legendary TR-3B, a huge nuclear-powered, anti-gravity platform which would make Nick Fury greener than the Hulk with envy. The TR-3B has also been said to operate on the principle of rotating mercury, which links it with both the mystery of the Nazi Bell and the ancient vimanas.
Unfortunately, the existence of this or other breakaway vehicles have never been confirmed… yet. And although the purpose of Area 51’s new hangar will be probably be more mundane and less UFO-like, it still proves the Air Force has no immediate intention to retire its historic top-secret military aerospace testing facility any time soon.
Who knows? Maybe they’ll end up having the bigger laugh yet, by using this new distraction to divert us all from where they keep the REAL reversed-engineered alien craft, at Area 52 –just like Bugs and Daffy were saying all along.

RENDLESHAM: US commander feared attack after 'UFO fired laser' and 'explosion in woods'
RENDLESHAM: US commander feared attack after 'UFO fired laser' and 'explosion in woods'
A FORMER US Airbase commander at the centre of the UK's most controversial mass UFO sighting insists "we are not alone," but world leaders are "covering up" the truth.
Retired Colonel Charles Halt, the most senior former US servicemen to go public about alien sightings, also said he has obtained "new evidence supporting" claims that a UFO LANDED in Rendlesham, Suffolk, next to an RAF base in 1980.
Returning to the area 35-years on, Mr Halt's claims included:
• Rendlesham Forest was mobbed with US military personnel "hunting UFOs" at the time
• A "UFO exploded " before his eyes and another "shot down a laser beam" from 3,000 feet above
• The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) later hid documents relating to Rendlesham
• US personnel who "lost 40 minutes" during the sighting have been denied access to medical files
Speaking at a UFO conference in Woodbridge, Suffolk, he said: "There is no doubt in my mind we are not alone and there are some people (in power) who know this, but even Mr (Barack) Obama won't get through to them."

A more recent "UFO sighting" at Rendlesham woods taken by a local researcher
The Rendlesham legend has been dubbed Britain's Roswell after the mystery UFO crash said to have happened outside the town in New Mexico, USA, in July 1947.
The UK alien sighting happened when three US officers based at RAF Bentwaters claimed a "triangular shaped craft" landed in neighbouring woods in the early hours of December 26 1980.
Mr Halt, 75, who was base deputy commander at the time, was not present during the first encounter, but was told next morning.
He claimed the officers who first saw the lights and then a UFO "on the floor" could not account for a 40 minute period while searching in the woods when their communication systems went "off air".
The three - John Burroughs, Bud Steffens, and James Penniston, later told of feeling "static" as they observed the object's flashing lights and hieroglyphic-like markings.
Mr Halt then said on the evening of December 27 1980 that officers had shouted: "It's back, the UFO's back."
He went to investigate with a team who found three 1.5inch "impact holes," damage to the canopies of trees and "higher radiation levels" in the "landing" area.
A plaster cast was later taken of one of the holes, but mysteriously disappeared from a box it was stored in.
He said soon after they saw a mysterious object in a field between the woods and a farmhouse with "a red light moving."
"It came towards us into the forest, moving, bobbing up and down in the trees. It was oval, about 100 to 150 yards away, with a dark centre and red around it," he said.
He claimed there were "sparks" coming from it and after a minute it "exploded and disappeared."
They then spotted objects in the sky, 3,000 to 4,000ft up.
One was "elliptical, but became a "full circle".

To the south were two bright white lights, almost like landing lights. One approached directly overhead at very high speed and sent down a laser beam at about 10 to 12 inch in diameter. We thought, is it a weapon, a communication, a warning, what do we do
Former Lt Col Charles Halt
Mr Halt added: "To the south were two bright white lights, almost like landing lights. One approached directly overhead at very high speed and sent down a laser beam at about 10 to 12 inch in diameter. We thought, is it a weapon, a communication, a warning, what do we do?"
Mr Halt, who flew from Virginia to attend UFO conference in Suffolk, said they continued to observe for an hour before returning to base at 3am, where he recorded an account on a tape.
But his wing commander, who heard it, told him: "It happened off the base - It's a British affair - case closed."
He wrote a memo for the MoD, so they could investigate but they never responded.
Subsequent requests for MoD documents from the time came back with papers missing "from that exact time frame," he said.
He claimed Mr Burroughs and the two others have been unable to obtain medical records because of secrecy surrounding what happened.
Mr Burroughs this year won a court battle forcing the US Veterans Association to pay his legal bill for heart failure treatment amid claims he suffered radiation poisoning during the UFO search.
While still on scene, Mr Halt had radar checks done at Bentwaters, nearby RAF Wattisham, and even the "Healthrow Tower", but they all came back negative.
Subsequent checks by the MoD, in response to researcher's inquiries years later, also found no radar observations.
However, Mr Halt told the conference he now had statements from former operatives at RAF Bentwaters and RAF Wattisham, saying an unidentified object darted across their screens at the time.
He said: "I have confirmation that (RAF Bentwaters) radar operators saw the object go across their 60 mile scope in two or three seconds, that's thousands of miles an hour.
"It came back across, stopped near the water tower, they watched it and observed it go into the forest.
"At Wattisham, they picked up what they called a bogie - an enemy craft - and lost it near the Forest."
Mr Halt, who became an airbase commander at Kunsan in South Korea, claimed the former service people were too scared to speak out until after retirement

Alternative theories claim the light came from either the Orfordness lighthouse, military tests, a helicopter carrying a dummy Apollo capsule, or was even a UFO prank by airmen that spiralled out of control.
Sceptics have pointed to inconsistencies in various witnesses' accounts and more detail being added over time.
Mr Halt did little to dampen this, after refuting the accounts of several of his former colleagues made in various books.
The Suffolk UFO conference was organised by ex-cop UFO researcher John Hanson, who said Mr Halt was "a reliable witness" and backed the "cover up" claims.
He added the new radar evidence "undermined" Government suggestions the mass sightings were down to the lighthouse.
Members of the public also claimed to see lights heading towards the forest around the same time.
But, two police officers also investigated the reports at 4:11am on Boxing Day morning 1980, but reported no trace of anything.
Nick Pope, who later investigated UFOs including Rendlesham, for the MoD, said: "One needs to bear in mind that he's the most senior military officer ever to have seen and reported a UFO while on duty. He's a man of the utmost honesty and integrity, and when he makes claims - however extraordinary they may sound - you can take it to the bank."
New evidence has been gathered to back up claims a UFO landed near a US airbase in Suffolk, a former deputy commander has claimed.
Col Charles Halt told the BBC he saw unidentified objects at Rendlesham Forest in December 1980.
He says he now has statements from radar operators at RAF Bentwaters and nearby Wattisham airfield that an unknown object was tracked at the time.
Col Halt claimed it was seen by himself and base security staff.
The 75-year-old, who was deputy commander at the Bentwaters base and now lives in the US state of Virginia, said some former service people had not wanted to speak until they retired but had now provided written statements to him.
The Ministry of Defence told the BBC it no longer deals with reports of UFOs.
Rendlesham Forest UFO mystery: who, what, where?
United States Air Force security personnel John Burroughs and Jim Penniston were the first to report sightings of strange lights on 26 December 1980
Col Halt recorded a running commentary into a dictation device of their efforts to find the source of the lights
RAF Bentwaters was an airbase used by the United States Air Force during the Cold War until 1993
Other suggestions as to what was seen at Rendlesham include military project testing, a helicopter carrying a dummy Apollo capsule, light from the Orford Ness lighthouse and pranks by airmen
In 1983, the News of the World ran a front page story which proclaimed: "UFO LANDS IN SUFFOLK, And that's OFFICIAL"
"I have confirmation that (Bentwaters radar operators)... saw the object go across their 60 mile (96km) scope in two or three seconds, thousands of miles an hour, he came back across their scope again, stopped near the water tower, they watched it and observed it go into the forest where we were," said Col Halt.
"At Wattisham, they picked up what they called a 'bogie' and lost it near Rendlesham Forest.
"Whatever was there was clearly under intelligent control."
UFO researcher John Hanson said he found Col Halt to be a reliable witness and there had been a "concerted effort to hide the truth".
He said the evidence of the UFO being picked up by radar seriously undermined the suggestion by the government at the time that the reported phenomena was due to witnesses seeing the light from Orfordness lighthouse and misinterpreting what they saw.
In this new video I will show you more unique material. Besides Image Analysis Team members till this day no one has seen these images before.
The (in)famous Bob Lazar UFO has often been referred to as the “Sportsmodel” because of its very aerodynamic – and typical saucer shape. What do you think are UFO really saucer shape? Perhaps some of them do but not this one. This “Lazar UFO” looks like a “McDonalds Double Mac” and is best described as two floating discs or double saucers in the center of the craft right on top of each other.
I have used it also in my new channel banner. Around the two discs we see numerous “energy fields”. We believe that this UFO is in a super high energetic – or as scientists would call it quantimize state. Basically the UFO has fully dematerialized and changed its physical state from solid into a higher state or “something else”. While flying the UFO has become transparant / translucent and we therefore can literally look through it and also see the inner parts of the UFO. There is no (human) crew visible so perhaps this craft is remote controlled?
We have already shown you the unique way of how BAS and polynomial texture mapping technology can be used to make an object or in this case a UFO visible. In the introduction video you have seen a very basic enhancement of a BAS images stacked UFO and a much more detailed 48 angle PTM video created from a single video frame. This frame (internally known as frame 243) was taken from the uncompressed raw video of Bob Lazar’s UFO Homevideo. The details in the first video where already pretty amazing but in this sequel other and more sophisticated techniques have been used to dive deeper into the mystery of the Lazar UFO.
We know that people (not the most friendly and usually uncivilized) will come forward and try to convince you that this video is bullshit. This is fully understandable as why should anyone believe what we show you? Honestly, when a stranger would show me a UFO this detailed I also would question it.
With so many fake UFO photos and videos on the internet we, the Image Analysis Team, understand that there is the need to provide you with evidence. We the I.A.T. want everyone to be able to verify that what we do, have done and show you is real and therefore we are currently creating a video series as part of a new project which we call “UFO School”. In this video series, which we hope to release soon, we will “tell and teach” everyone interested where to download or to obtain the applications freeware) and show you in full detail how to use these techniques so you can do your own enhancements.
Debunkers claim that these UFO we are seeing are nothing but the landing lights of airplanes (e.g Janet flights) or are the result of military flares. Well … we will also show and teach you a few simple methods to distinct UFO from these beforementioned objects.
On Thursday, 13 March 1997, an anomalous series of lights flew in steady formation over the American southwest, eventually settling in over Phoenix, Arizona. The lights appeared to be connected to a large craft, and the underbelly of that craft was so big it blocked out much of the sky above. The event was witnessed by thousands of people for a number of hours, including the governor of Arizona.
Utilizing new data from two of the best remote viewers on the planet today, Dick Allgire and Daz Smith, and using methodologies derived from those developed and used by the U.S. military for espionage, we now know that this event involved at least one huge extraterrestrial spacecraft. But there is more. The data for this project, recorded live on video, includes stunningly corroborating data, and what appears to be a direct communication between a being on the craft and one of the remote viewers, a communication that spans the years 1997 to 2015. This revolutionary documentary was conducted at The Farsight Institute, the leading scientific venue for full public projects involving remote viewing.
Do not let others decide for you what is real and what is not. See the data for yourself, and make up your own mind.
Hier volgen twee afbeeldingen.
Papyrus Reveals Extraterrestrials Visited Ancient Egypt — Now Allegedly Lost
Papyrus Reveals Extraterrestrials Visited Ancient Egypt — Now Allegedly Lost
One of the most intriguing ancient texts, the Tulli Papyrus chronicles one of the earliest mass UFO sightings. It also has an interesting backstory. In 1933, Alberto Tulli, director of the Egyptology section of the Vatican Museum, discovered a unique papyrus in one of Cairo’s antique shops. Unfortunately, it was priced too high — even for the Vatican — so Tulli resorted to copying down its contents. When he later returned, the papyrus was gone. Two decades later, Italian Egyptologist Prince Boris de Rachewiltz announced that he had located the original papyrus, “untranslated and unpublished.”
While incomplete, the papyrus painted a pretty clear picture:
“In the year 22, of the third month of winter, sixth hour of the day […] among the scribes of the House of Life it was found that a strange Fiery Disk was coming in the sky. It had no head. The breath of its mouth emitted a foul odor. “Its body was one rod (172 feet or approximately 50 meters) in length and one rod in width. It had no voice. It came toward His Majesty’s house. Their heart became confused through it, and they fell upon their bellies. They [went] to the King to report it. His Majesty [ordered that] the scrolls [located] in the House of Life be consulted. His Majesty meditated on all these events which were now going on.”
A copy of a copy of the Tulli Papyrus
“After several days had passed, they became more numerous in the sky than ever. They shined in the sky more than the brightness of the sun, and extended to the limits of the four supports of heaven[…] Powerful was the position of the Fiery Disks. “The army of the King looked on, with His Majesty in their midst. It was after the evening meal when the Disks ascended even higher in the sky to the south. Fish and other volatiles rained down from the sky, a marvel never before known since the foundation of the country. “And His Majesty caused incense to be brought to appease the heart of Amun-Re, the god of the Two Lands. And it was [ordered] that the event [be recorded for] His Majesty in the Annals of the House of Life [to be remembered] forever.”
The pharaoh in question is Thutmose III, and the event happened in the first years of his reign, somewhere around 1480 BC.
As evidenced by the existence of this text, this event was one of great importance. The scribes’ reactions of fear and bewilderment are consistent with the unprecedented apparition of an enormous flying object.
It is described as being silent while its exhaust emitted toxic gasses. Its shape is described as a disk with “no head”, possibly metallic due to its high reflectiveness. A few days after being visited by this scout, the entire UFO armada reveals itself.
The fleet’s departure is marked by a strange, unprecedented event: fish and “other volatiles” raining down from the sky. Did the UFOs refuel using water from the Nile and then dump the extra passengers scooped up? Could be.
The Tulli Papyrus does not mention whether a contact was established with the visitors, but it’s interesting to see that a decidedly alien civilization was interested in the Egyptian Empire while it was at its height.
Nobody knows where the original papyrus is today. When researcher Samuel Rosenberg wrote to the Vatican Museum to get the chance to examine the ancient text, he got the following reply:
“Papyrus Tulli not property of Vatican Museum. Now it is dispersed and no more traceable.”
Classic!

Alien life forms might be living right under our noses, but how can we find them if we don’t know what we’re looking for?
Alien life forms might be living right under our noses, but how can we find them if we don’t know what we’re looking for?
by Sarah Scoles
In the late 1670s, the Dutch scientist Antonie van Leeuwenhoek looked through a microscope at a drop of water and found a whole world. It was tiny; it was squirmy; it was full of weird body types; and it lived, invisibly, all around us. Humans were supposed to be the centre and purpose of the world, and these microscale ‘animalcules’ seemed to have no effect – visible or otherwise – on our existence, so why were they here? Now, we know that those animalcules are microbes and they actually rule our world. They make us sick, keep us healthy, decompose our waste, feed the bottom of our food chain, and make our oxygen. Human ignorance of them had no bearing on their significance, just as gravity was important before an apple dropped on Isaac Newton’s head.
We could be poised on another such philosophical precipice, about to discover a second important world hiding amid our own: alien life on our own planet. Today, scientists seek extraterrestrial microbes in geysers of chilled water shooting from Enceladus and in the ocean sloshing beneath the ice crust of Europa. They search for clues that beings once skittered around the formerly wet rocks of Mars. Telescopes peer into the atmospheres of distant exoplanets, hunting for signs of life. But perhaps these efforts are too far afield. If multiple lines of life bubbled up on Earth and evolved separately from our ancient ancestors, we could discover alien biology without leaving this planet.
The modern-day descendants of these ‘aliens’ might still be here, squirming around with van Leeuwenhoek’s microbes. Scientists call these hypothetical hangers-on the ‘shadow biosphere’. If a shadow biosphere were ever found, it would provide evidence that life isn’t a once-in-a-universe statistical accident. If biology can happen twice on one planet, it must have happened countless times on countless other planets. But most of our scientific methods are ill-equipped to discover a shadow biosphere. And that’s a problem, says Carol Cleland, the originator of the term and its biggest proponent.
The idea came to Cleland, a philosopher at the University of Colorado at Boulder, when she spent a sabbatical year at the Centro de Astrobiología in Spain. She was studying the scientists, who were studying microorganisms.
‘If you have a sample of soil,’ she asked them, ‘how will you recognise what’s in it?’ The scientists rattled off the usual answers: slide it under a microscope, put it in a Petri dish, make millions of DNA copies, catalogue the genes. But that party line disturbed Cleland. ‘You couldn’t detect anything that wasn’t almost identical to familiar Earth life,’ she said. Their methods assumed that all microbes have genetic material that works like ours. Isn’t it possible, Cleland wondered, that life arose more than once here? If so, organisms from a second (or third) genesis would never turn up in our tests, because our tests are only meant to turn up familiar life. ‘But these organisms, if they exist, would leave traces in the environment,’ Cleland says.
In 2007 in the journal Studies in History and Philosophy of Biological and Biomedical Sciences, Cleland wrote about just such a trace: desert varnish. It’s a strange sheen, like a hardened waterfall, that covers desert rocks all over the planet. The streaks run down rocks from the desert of El Azizia in Libya to Antartica’s Dry Valley. Desert varnish – into which people have scraped petroglyphs for thousands of years – appears layer by layer, growing only the width of a human hair each millennium. The varnish is replete with arsenic, iron and manganese, although the rocks it coats are not. No known geochemical or biological process can account for its ingredients. And yet there it is. Since that discovery, Cleland has urged scientists not to discount – but to seek out – such anomalies as the varnish, things that don’t quite seem to fit. Because maybe they don’t fit.
Science’s modern-day explorers have unearthed increasingly anomalous organisms that are technically ‘familiar life’ – familiar in that they do adhere to the Central Dogma of molecular biology which explains the flow of genetic information in a biological system. Toxitolerants can live in nuclear waste; acidophiles can live in battery acid; obligate anaerobes die in the presence of oxygen; thermophiles thrive around hot vents deep in the ocean. Life, as they say in the movie Jurassic Park, finds a way.
But even the most familiar forms of life can be difficult to find. According to the latest estimates, we’ve discovered just 14 per cent of the dogma-following species on the planet. Of those, we can make only 1 per cent grow in the lab. A shadow biosphere might help us understand why. ‘Although we have good theoretical reasons for believing that life could be at least modestly different … we don’t know how different it could be,’ Cleland wrote in the seminal paper ‘The Possibility of Alternative Microbial Life on Earth’ (2005), co-authored with the astrobiologist Shelley Copley, also of the University of Colorado at Boulder. Just as a hammer and a sledgehammer can both pound a nail, other chemical combinations could lead to organisms that grow, adapt, respond to stimuli, and reproduce – that live, in other words. But which chemicals? And how? To understand that requires going back to the beginning.
Life on Earth might have begun in a ‘warm little pond’, as Charles Darwin said, or around an ocean vent. Or it might have come from a Martian meteorite. We just don’t know. What we do know is that half a billion years after Earth became a planet, molecules began to make copies of themselves. Many scientists believe that the first self-replicating molecules – a primitive form of gene-only life – were RNA. This ‘RNA World’ morphed into an increasingly complex place, where RNA led to DNA and proteins, rendering itself a backseat driver in the process. Others say that a long chain of purely chemical reactions spat out increasingly complicated organic molecules, which then sped up the reactions that produced even more organic molecules. This metabolism led to genetic ingredients after many cycles. And, eventually, to genes themselves.
Maybe different alphabetical combinations are still locked inside ancient organisms that putter invisibly around ocean vents
‘Modern’ DNA is the eventual conclusion of all the origin stories. DNA has three parts: a sugar called deoxyribose, a phosphate molecule, and one of four nucleic acid bases — either adenine, cyanine, guanine, or thymine (RNA uses another, called uracil, instead of thymine). But six other bases occur naturally, and the biodesigner John Chaput of Arizona State University wonders whether different molecules could do what DNA does. Maybe different alphabetical combinations are still locked inside ancient organisms that putter invisibly around ocean vents.
DNA isn’t the only place where other life could diverge, chemically, from the familiar. DNA instructs our bodies to produce certain proteins, which are conglomerations of 20 different amino acids. With the right starting ingredients and a UV nudge, amino acids naturally assemble themselves in the lab. They also coat comets, and their building blocks float aimlessly in interstellar space. They’re easy, abundant. And 100 of them exist. Shadow life could have 80 extra options on their hands (or whatever).
Even the same amino acids our DNA uses could have different shapes. If you make amino acids and sugars in the lab, you get two mirror-image types, called ‘left-handed’ and ‘right-handed’. But inside living things, you’ll find only left-handed amino acids and right-handed sugars. Shadow life could be ambidextrous, or a mirror image of regular life: its molecules could be flipped as if Photoshopped. The astronomer Dimitar Sasselov and the geneticist George Church at the Harvard Origins of Life Initiative want to build such mirror-world organisms. One day, they hope, their manufactured microbes will fall ill. ‘If there are right-handed lifeforms out there, many of them will be viruses – which will attempt to hijack the DNA of our bionic cells,’ Sasselov told The Guardian in 2013. And if viruses attack, we will know viruses exist. And if they exist, some of their prey must exist outside Harvard’s labs, having formed long before Harvard and long before labs.
Telling scientists to find a shadow biosphere is like asking a chimpanzee to add oil to a car: they don’t know what they’re looking for or what tools to use. Nevertheless, Cleland has some suggestions. First, look at life in places where life ‘shouldn’t’ be. Even the most sauna-happy microbes, called hyperthermophiles, wilt above 122° C. If we find anything living at 150° C, then there’s a good chance they’re not of our ilk. Send balloons into the upper atmosphere; scramble up to high plateaus; snowmobile to the South Pole; drive Land Rovers into the Atacama Desert; don end-of-world suits and venture into uranium mines. Remain alert for phenomena that make us say not ‘Eureka!’ but ‘Huh, that’s weird.’ And then consider that their explanation might, in fact, be very, very weird.
Another mysterious finding, like the desert varnish, involves excess gas. If you catalogue all the carbon that living things burp out, and then you count the carbon you find in the atmosphere, the two don’t match: there’s 5 per cent more hanging over our heads than there ‘should’ be. Maybe that extra comes from shadow organisms whose excretions we aren’t counting. Maybe not. Maybe we have already found shadow organisms – some of the shy- and stubborn-seeming microbes that won’t reproduce in our labs, which scientists build as breeding grounds for dogma-obeying life. Maybe they really are just reticent. But we should wonder harder.
if we look for life only as we know it, that’s all we’re going to find
So far, no systematic shadow-search plan exists. But back in 2010, a team led by the astrobiologist Felisa Wolfe-Simon at NASA did look for weird life in the salty, alkaline, arsenic-saturated waters of Northern California’s Mono Lake. Inside, Wolfe-Simon’s team found an organism that they dubbed GFAJ‑1. All known life on Earth uses phosphorus in its DNA. But when the team deprived GFAJ‑1 of phosphorus, it seemed to substitute the arsenic in its place. This pinch-hitting would kill the cells in your body, because although phosphorus sits just above arsenic on the periodic table and so shares sibling-like traits, the resemblance isn’t quite close enough. But GFAJ-1 seemed to continue just fine using arsenic. While that wouldn’t have made it exactly a shadow organism, it seemed only a step removed: familiar life that could behave, under duress, like shadow life.
The team sent a paper to Science, and NASA rushed a press conference. But Wolfe-Simon’s 15 minutes quickly became infamy, when other scientists failed to replicate her results. The bacteria grew in the arsenic bath, sure, but they still needed – and were still using – phosphorus. Just like a Siberian hermit is still human, GFAJ-1 was just regular life. The team’s minds were perhaps too open to the possibilities, but if we look for life only as we know it, that’s all we’re going to find.
The discovery of life as we don’t know it would hint that biology is a universal law, like physics and chemistry. If you drop a trombone off a terrestrial building, it will fall to the ground – every time. If molecular clouds have just the right density, dynamics and ingredients, they will collapse into new stars – every time. If they collapse into new stars, the leftover gas and dust will always collapse into planets. Maybe when those planets have the right ingredients baked at the right temperature, they always make life. A shadow biosphere – evidence that biology emerged more than once on Earth – suggests that biology emerges as a normal consequence of Goldilocks or just‑right conditions, rather than being a mysterious lottery-ticket phenomenon.
In 1670, when van Leeuwenhoek viewed the invisible microbial world, people were already accustomed to the idea of a world too small to see. It wasn’t really the philosophical existence of that world that set humanity’s throne teetering – it was that world’s newly revealed concreteness and complexity.
Today, if asked whether life concocts itself given the right conditions, many people would respond affirmatively. It’s not a new idea. But concrete, complex proof that we are the predictable result of a predictable law would tip over our throne, once and for all.
6 Reported Alien Encounters That Were Never Fully Explained, In Honor Of World UFO Day
6 Reported Alien Encounters That Were Never Fully Explained, In Honor Of World UFO Day
In recent months, people around the world have reported hearing strange trumpeting sounds coming from the sky. Videos of the events show people in such disparate places as Malaysia, Australia, and Texas reacting to the whale-like sounds with bewilderment. Listening to the eerie, mysterious noises, it’s almost impossible not to think something along the lines of, “It’s ALIENS. THE ALIENS ARE COMING. PREPARE TO BOW DOWN TO OUR ALIEN OVERLORDS.” It may be World UFO Day, but fortunately or unfortunately (depending on how much you love UFO stories), NASA has assured us that the sounds are not, in fact, Xenomorphs bent on planetary destruction, but are instead the natural noises of the Earth. A NASA spokesperson explained,
If humans had radio antennas instead of ears, we would hear a remarkable symphony of strange noises coming from our own planet. … Earth’s natural radio emissions are real and, although we’re mostly unaware of them, they are around us all the time.
So maybe these crazy noises aren’t extraterrestrial (though I’m sure there is at least one conspiracy theorist out there who would argue that NASA is simply trying to throw us off the trail of the actual alien takeover that is occurring as we speak), but that doesn’t mean that aliens are entirely out of the question, right? Lots of weird, unexplained things happen every day. Why not blame them on creatures from other planets? (Although my question is, Why are aliens—in sci-fi and in most real alien abduction stories—always humanoid? Why not have aliens that look like whales? Or that are entirely composed of gas? I’m asking.)
Read on for 6 unusual encounters that still defy explanation:
1. The Betty and Barney Hill Incident
The story of Betty and Barney Hill is one of America’s most famous extraterrestrial stories, having gained notoriety as the first abduction story to be widely reported across the U.S. The Betty and Barney Hill reported that on a night in 1961, they saw a flying object with lights in the sky, shaped like a cigar. Barney reported that, looking at the object with binoculars, he could see non-human creatures at the windows. What happened during the next two hours is unknown. The Hills reported that after seeing the object, they were suddenly 35 miles down the road, and it was two hours later. They had no memory of what had happened. In the days following, the Hills contacted the U.S. Air Force about the incident, as well as NICAP, a civilian UFO research group. The couple had only very spotty memory of the missing hours, though there was unexplained material evidence, including damage to Betty’s dress and Barney’s shoes, and circles on the trunk of their car that would make the needle of a compass spin if it came close. Both of their watches had also suddenly stopped running. Three years after the initial incident, they underwent time-regression hypnosis to try to find out what had occurred. They each described, in detail, being kidnapped by aliens. The story began to gain publicity, and the case became widely discussed.
The incident is so famous that in 2011, the state of New Hampshire erected a historical marker on the highway along which the incident occurred to commemorate the supposed-encounter.
2. Astronaut Leroy Chiao sees … something.
This UFO sighting occurred only a few years ago: Astronaut Leroy Chiao was commander of the International Space Station from October 2004 to April 2005. He reported that, while doing a spacewalk to install navigation antennas on the station, he saw an unidentified object in the distance. He told the Huffington Post, “I saw some lights that seemed to be in a line and it was almost like an upside-down check mark, and I saw them fly by and thought it was awfully strange.” Although we still don’t know what Chiao saw, one practical explanation is that Chiao saw a line of fishing boats down on Earth whose lights, from far away, looked like a single object. Or, you know. ALIENS. Chaio told HuffPo that he doubts we’ve been visited by extraterrestrials in the past:
I’m skeptical of claims that we’ve been visited by aliens from another planet or other dimension, but I don’t rule it out 100 percent. I have an open mind and I do believe there’s other life in the universe. If there is life out there that’s so much more advanced than we are and they know either how to travel great distances in short amounts of time, or they’re able to come from a parallel universe into ours, why don’t they just come and show themselves?
3. A UFO in Socorro, New Mexico
On April 24, 1964, police officer Lonnie Zamora was chasing a speeding car when he heard a roaring sound and saw flames in the distance. He reported that when he got the site, he saw an egg-shaped craft standing on four legs, and two figures wearing white. He saw the figures go back into the egg and take off. Later, burn marks were found on the ground where the machine had landed, presumably from the exhaust. The incident was immediately investigated by the Air Force and police. Zamora, known as a man of integrity, was considered a reliable witness. After thorough investigation, no one was able to find an explanation for what had happened.
4. Lights over Lubbock
In August of 1951, three Texas Tech College professors reported seeing lights in a “V” shape over the West Texas town of Lubbock. A student also produced photos of what he claimed were the same lights. Because the professors didn’t fulfill stereotypes of the usual people to report strange occurrences, their reports were taken fairly seriously and attracted the attention of Project Blue Book, a study on UFOs conducted by the U.S. Air Force from the early 1950s to 1970. In his book about the project, Project Blue Book leader Edward J. Ruppelt insisted that the Lubbock incident had a logical, Earth-bound explanation, but—mysteriously—he refused to explain what it was. He wrote,
They weren’t birds, they weren’t refracted light, but they weren’t spaceships. The lights that the professors saw–the backbone of the Lubbock Lights series–have been positively identified as a very commonplace and easily explainable natural phenomenon. It is very unfortunate that I can’t divulge exactly the way the answer was found because it is an interesting story of how a scientist set up complete instrumentation to track down the lights and how he spent several moths testing theory after theory until he finally hit upon the answer.
5. The Alaska UFO
In November of 1986, Japanese Airlines pilot Kenju Terauchi and his crew were flying a cargo plane over Alaska when they saw two unidentified aircraft flying strangely alongside them. These objects eventually departed, and Terauchi saw a third, much larger object, which he estimated was the size of two aircraft carriers. Throughout the incident, the crew was in contact with Air Traffic Control in Anchorage, and, at various times, unidentified objects were detected on radar. The FAA investigated, but has yet to come up with a satisfying explanation.
6. The Rendlesham Forest incident
The Rendlesham Forest incident is possibly the most famous UFO story to come out of the U.K. It began the day after Christmas in 1980, when U.S. military officers, stationed at a nearby RAF base, saw red, blue, orange, and white lights over Rendlesham Forest in Suffolk. Three men went to investigate. One of them reported seeing a craft, saying,
No landing gear was apparent, but it seemed like she was on fixed legs. I moved a little closer. I had already taken all 36 pictures on my roll of film. I walked around the craft, and finally, I walked right up to the craft. I noticed the fabric of the shell was more like a smooth, opaque, black glass.
The next day, evidence of where landing gear would have been was found, as well as unusually high levels of radioactivity. Two nights later, another group would go out to investigate; aural recordings suggest that they encountered something strange and unexpected. According to The Telegraph, the transcript features dialogue like this:
“I see it too… it’s back again… it’s coming this way… there’s no doubt about it… this is weird… it looks like an eye winking at you… it almost burns your eyes… he’s coming toward us now… now we’re observing what appears to be a beam coming down to the ground… one object still hovering over Woodbridge base… beaming down”
Another team went out on a third night, and they reported actually seeing an aircraft land and a humanoid alien emerge. Eventually, the aircraft departed. The U.K. Ministry of Defence insists that there was nothing strange or extraterrestrial going on in the forest, but what did happen has yet to be explained. (My vote is aliens and dinosaurs. Or dinosaur aliens.)

Foam UFO: Weird glittering floating mass caught on camera over Philly (VIDEO)
Foam UFO: Weird glittering floating mass caught on camera over Philly (VIDEO)
Screenshot from YouTube video by Hector Garcia
A Philadelphia resident claims he filmed a strange glittering tumbling object floating over the Tioga neighborhood. It looked like a mass of foam or a strange translucent blimp.
Hector Garcia says he caught the phenomenon on his cellphone on July 5, he told WTXF FOX 29 News.
"As soon as I started recording, it starts to move and come down," Garcia said. "As I zoomed in on it, it starts to swerve and starts going to the side, and I'm still looking at it and I don't know what it is. I was shocked."
The video, which may be a clever CGI hoax, has scored over a million views on YouTube.
Among the explanations of the strange view, a big plastic bag, soap suds or a really weird cloud were suggested.

Airplanes and interplanetary travel described 7000 years ago in India
Airplanes and interplanetary travel described 7000 years ago in India
According to a book that was recently introduced in India, the Hindus have designed the bases of aviation, even interplanetary travel, thousands of years before the Wright brothers.
The work, presented by Anand Weddings and Ameya Jadhav during the scientific conference organized by the University of Mumbai, India, concludes that an aviation system even more advanced than the current would have been described by the sage Maharshi Bharadwaja, thousands of years ago. Bharadwaja was one of the greatest Hindu sages. He attained extraordinary scholarship and he had the great power of meditation.
The Vaimānika Śāstra an early 20th-century Sanskrit text on aerospace technology makes claim that he vimānas mentioned in ancient Sanskrit epics were advanced aerodynamic flying vehicles, similar to a rocket capable of interplanetary flight as backed up by the ancient alien theory.
The texts were revealed in 1952 by G. R. Josye and contain 3000 shlokas in 8 chapters which Shastry claimed was psychically delivered to him by the ancient Hindu sage Bharadvaja. The propulsion of the Vimanas according to Kanjilal (1985) is by a "Mercury Vortex Engines", a concept similar to electric propulsion.
The authors argue that the sage Maharishi Bharadwaj would have described more than 7000 years ago "aircraft traveling between countries, continents and planets." At the same time, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Mumbai, Rajan Welukar, said that "there is no reason to believe in what they say about the Vedas, but it is something that is worth studying."
Even though there are several studies that have demonstrated that these ancient flying machines were not really capable of flight, there are many researchers and scholars who believe that these ancient machines were blueprints of high-tech flying machines.
In 1974, a study by the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore found that the heavier-than-air aircraft that the Vaimānika Śāstra described were aeronautically unfeasible.
Mr. Boda is quoted in the Mumbai Mirror as saying “modern science is unscientific” because it considers things it does not comprehend as not possible. He is further quoted as saying, “The Vedic or rather ancient Indian definition of an aeroplane was a vehicle which travels through the air from one country to another country, from one continent to another continent, from one planet to another planet,” he said. “In those days aeroplanes were huge in size, and could move left, right, as well as backwards, unlike modern planes which only fly forward.”
