Het is een lief, aanhankelijk hondje, dat zich op een week snel aan ons heeft aangepast. Ze is heel vinnig en nieuwsgierig, een heel ander hondje dan Noleke.

PENTAGON UFO: Shock footage of USAF jets outfoxed by UFO that vanished from radar emerges
F 15 FIGHTER pilots were unable to intercept a mystery UFO which was seen on radar flying at incredible speeds before vanishing. The unexplained incident happened on the evening of October 25 over the Pacific northwest in northern California.
The white object was first spotted on radar before there were a series of eyewitness accounts from commercial pilots flying north over Oregon.
Express.co.uk reported on the incident at the time, after it apparently became invisible to radar and US Air Force (USAF) F-15 fighter jets were unsuccessfully scrambled to intercept it.
Now, video and audio recordings of the radar operators, who remain baffled by what they saw, after been released under the Freedom of Information Act.
They were obtained by Thedrive.com which said: "We present what could be one of the most insightful instances of official documentation surrounding such an encounter that had already been confirmed to have occurred by both the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the USAF.
"These materials include fascinating audio recordings of radio transmissions and phone calls made as the incident was unfolding, as well as pilot interviews, and conversations between FAA officials made in the aftermath of the highly peculiar incident."
The object was first detected on radar blasting across Northern California at high speed, at around 4.30pm local time, before taking a sharp north turn and merging with commercial air craft when it disappeared from radar.
Witnesses were left questioning where the jet may have come from and what it was doing.
Sightings continued over hundreds of miles for about half an hour.
The same description of a white aircraft at around 37,000 feet, that was too far away to tell its type or any markings, kept coming back.
When the F-15s are scrambled about 27 minutes into the video, radar contact has been lost.

As they appear on radar climbing out of Portland an air traffic controller says they still "have nothing on him," and it must be "in a kind of stealth mode or something”.
North American Aerospace Defence Command confirmed it had been asked by the Federal Aviation Administration to help track the unidentified aircraft flying at heights regularly used by commercial aircraft – 35,000ft and 40,000ft – on October 25.
No flight plan had been submitted for the unidentified craft and no identification transponder was active.
The craft was not transmitting collision avoidance signals. The F-15C Eagle interceptors have some of the most advanced combat search and tracking radars in the world.
The incident left people wondering what the object could have been.
In recordings of calls made after the incident, one operator is heard to say there was "definitely something out there".
Another says it "executed an abrupt maneuver and took off northbound."
While a third is heard to say: "I have a feeling someone is going to go through this with a fine-tooth comb."
The pilot of a Southwest 4712 says he has never seen "an incident like it in nearly 30 years of flying jets”.
He said: “If it was like a Lear (private jet) type airframe I probably would not have seen it this clear.
This was a white airplane and it was big. "And it was moving at a clip too, because we were keeping pace with it, it was probably moving faster than we were... It was a larger aircraft yeah."
One FAA Quality Assurance Group official is heard to say “wow that's weird" and it should be classified as "potentially significant".
She said: "It is a weird enough thing that there is not a set procedure... It's not often we hear about an unknown guy up at that altitude."
Military officials have been unable to identify the plane’s origin or even destination, after it vanished and they were not able top trace it.
Oregon borders Nevada, which is home to the mysterious and top-secret Area 51 US Air Force base where tests are conducted on new experimental craft.
Conspiracy theorists believe Area 51 holds the remains of crashed UFOs and even dead aliens.
In a debate on Reddit, some users speculated the object could be an alien UFO.
One posted: "A literal UFO." Another said: "I live in Eugene and I see UFOs all the time. "Whether it be day or night. I could tell some interesting stories to say the least.
"Eugene seems to be a hot bed of activity... Keep your eyes on the sky."
A third added: "Central Oregon here. I could say the same thing about the things we see over here.
Definitely weird." A fourth Reddit user, who claimed to have been a pilot in the air at the time, said: “Strange! My theory is they were running drugs to Canada. No news yet, not that I could find.”
He described how airliners had been asked to help track an unknown white-coloured aircraft visually for up to 30 minutes as air traffic control radar was having difficulty getting a fix.
While it was in sight of various airliner crews, it was apparently never close enough for its type to be identified.
The alleged pilot added: “The last aeroplane to see it had to descend into Portland and lost sight of it.
"The fighters were scrambled out of Portland but flew around for a while and did not find it. “And that’s that.”
The event has similarities to US Navy pilot footage which emerged late last year of the 2004 Nimitz UFO incident.
An object that UFO investigators have said "defied physics" was caught on radar camera and seen by many witnesses.
The case was investigated by the Pentagon's top secret Advanced Aerial Threat Identification Program (AATIP), which ran from 2007 to 2012. Details of the £16 million project only emerged in December when its former head Luis Elizondo resigned to work on a new UFO research project.
Sceptics argue that because something cannot be identified, it does not mean it is being flown by aliens.

Na de ontdekking van een aantal rotsschilderingen in India hebben lokale autoriteiten de hulp ingeroepen van de NASA. De tekeningen lijken namelijk buitenaards leven te tonen, meldt de Britse Daily Star.
In onderstaand filmpje vertelt de commentaarstem hoe de kunstwerken zijn ontdekt. De rotsschilderingen zijn gevonden in Charama en laten mogelijk UFO’s en aliens zien.
Volgens de lokale archeoloog JR Bhagat is het onduidelijk wat er precies te zien is.

“De ontdekking suggereert dat mensen in de prehistorie mogelijk wezens van andere planeten hebben gezien of zich andere wezens hebben ingebeeld,” zei hij.
Hij voegde toe dat verder onderzoek nodig is. “Charama beschikt momenteel niet over een expert die meer duidelijkheid kan geven,” zei hij.
Bhagat zei verder dat sommige figuren op de rotstekeningen wapens bij zich lijken te dragen.
Ruimtepakken
“De schilderingen zijn gemaakt met behulp van natuurlijke verfstoffen die in de loop der tijd nauwelijks zijn vervaagd,” zei hij.
De vreemde figuren houden wapenachtige voorwerpen vast en lijken geen neus en mond te hebben, aldus Bhagat.
“Op sommige afbeeldingen dragen ze zelfs ruimtepakken,” zei hij.
Overal
De video is gepubliceerd door YouTube-kanaal The Lost History Channel en is in enkele dagen tijd al zo’n 100.000 keer bekeken.
“Het bewijs is overal, we moeten onze ogen openen,” reageerde iemand.
Iemand anders zei: “We hoeven geen aliens te vinden, ze bevinden zich al onder ons.”

‘Tijdreiziger’ Noah, die uit het jaar 2030 claimt te komen, heeft gezegd dat de kleindochter van Martin Luther King Jr. in de toekomst president van de VS zal worden.
De man haalde het nieuws nadat hij een leugendetectortest had doorstaan. Hij beweerde onder meer dat Donald Trump zal worden herkozen en dat kunstmatige intelligentie een belangrijke rol in de samenleving zal spelen.
Noah claimde tijdens de uitzending onder meer dat een vrouw genaamd Ilana Remikee familie is van Martin Luther King Jr. en op 21-jarige leeftijd president van de VS zal worden.
De man zei op zender KIIS 1065: “Ze is de kleindochter van Martin Luther King Jr.”
Hij beweerde ook verjongingsmiddelen te gebruiken zodat hij tijdens zijn tijdreizen niet veroudert. “Ik moest pillen nemen om ervoor te zorgen dat ik niet ouder zou worden terwijl ik door de tijd reisde,” zei hij.
Aliens
De man zei verder dat het in de toekomst mogelijk is om designerbaby’s te maken, maar dat dat heel erg duur is.
Volgens Noah leven mensen in de toekomst op Mars om er wetenschappelijk onderzoek te doen en kunnen we contact maken met aliens.
Hij zei dat hij in een enorme koepel werd geplaatst voordat hij naar 2018 reisde. Vervolgens ging er een elektrische schok door hem heen en ‘voordat hij het wist had hij het jaar 2030 verlaten’.
Het is al jaren onrustig rondom de Yellowstone supervulkaan in Amerika. Regelmatig duiken er berichten op dat een uitbarsting van deze gigant misschien niet zo ver weg is.
Ook nu is er weer een groep seismologen die waarschuwen dat de Yellowstone supervulkaan “onder druk” staat, waarmee uiteraard dan weer de vrees toeneemt dat er een uitbarsting zal volgen.
De experts werden gealarmeerd doordat er een subtiele vervorming waarneembaar was in de rotsachtige bodem onder het aardoppervlak. Volgens onderzoekers treedt dat op wanneer er een verandering plaatsvindt in de hoeveelheid druk in de magmakamer van de supervulkaan. De seismologen zullen verdere ontwikkelingen nauwkeurig in het oog houden.
De wetenschappers van UNAVCO, een consortium van diverse universiteiten, zeggen dat het druksignaal sterker is dan men zou verwachten als de aardkorst onder de vulkaan solide zou zijn.
Dit alles betekent dan weer dat er lava stroomt, waardoor deze druk wordt opgebouwd. Ongeveer op 5 kilometer onder de grond bevinden zich bepaalde zones waar een soort half gesmolten rots voor komt. Ze gebruiken de term half gesmolten rots omdat deze zich vormen in wat men noemt "pockets" tussen de gewone rots. Kleine ruimtes tussen de gewone rots die vloeibaar aan het worden zijn.
En dan komt natuurlijk weer het normale verhaal dat niemand zich zorgen hoeft te maken en zo meer. Dat schijnt de standaard uitdrukking te zijn voor alle vreemde en ongewone dingen die op aarde plaatsvinden. Geen zorgen, business as usual.
In de volgende video bespreekt Joe Joseph van de Daily Sheeple bovenstaand verhaal en ook hij zegt dat we in een periode leven waar opeens heel veel dingen samen schijnen te komen die erop wijzen dat we ons in een vreemde periode bevinden. En dus, hoe betrouwbaar zijn die inschattingen van die wetenschappers dat we ons geen zorgen hoeven maken?
Niet alleen zouden bij een uitbarsting van deze supervulkaan onmiddellijk bijna 100.000 mensen omkomen, maar zou ook twee derde van Noord Amerika onbewoonbaar worden door een soort nucleaire winter die zal optreden omdat de zon bijna volkomen verduisterd zal zijn.
Iets dat dan natuurlijk niet alleen beperkt zal blijven tot Noord Amerika, maar ook bij ons de nodige gevolgen zal hebben.
Wanneer je zou kijken naar het weer de afgelopen tijd op diverse plaatsen, dan ben je geneigd te denken dat die nucleaire winter al is begonnen. Record hoeveelheden sneeuw en dito lage temperaturen worden op diverse plaatsen gemeten en verstoren het dagelijks leven.
Datzelfde Noord Amerika heeft te maken met één van de strengste winters in haar geschiedenis en nu de temperaturen iets hoger worden, veroorzaakt het smeltende sneeuw en ijs rampzalige overstromingen in het midden en noordwesten van het land.
Een beetje hetzelfde verhaal voor China, Taiwan en Japan, waar men ook te maken het met record hoeveelheden sneeuw. We schreven al eerder over de typische kenmerken van een naderende mini ijstijd vanwege de sneeuw in gebieden als Marokko, Israël en Saoedi Arabië.
Daar bovenop hebben we ook bij ons te maken gehad met orkaan-achtige stormen, die niet alleen hier huis hielden, maar eigenlijk over de hele wereld.
En in het kader van het Yellowstone verhaal is het natuurlijk ook zorgwekkend dat de zogenaamde Ring of Fire steeds meer tot leven schijnt te komen en vulkaanuitbarstingen eigenlijk dagelijkse kost worden.
En niemand in mainstream-land legt enig verband tussen al de heftige aardveranderingen die overal optreden en dat dat voortekenen (kunnen) zijn. Men blijft gewoon kijken naar iedere gebeurtenis afzonderlijk en men blijft het volk in slaap sussen.
WETENSCHAP & PLANEETWetenschappers op zoek naar buitenaards leven hebben flinke last van de bitcoin en andere virtuele munten. Om signalen uit het heelal op te vangen en te onderzoeken, hebben ze sterke computerchips nodig. Maar die zijn niet meer te krijgen: ze worden opgekocht door mensen die virtueel geld willen ‘minen’. Dat zeggen de onderzoekers tegen de BBC.
“We willen de allernieuwste GPU-processoren gebruiken. En we kunnen ze niet meer krijgen. Dat belemmert onze zoektocht naar buitenaards leven, om antwoord te krijgen op de vraag of we alleen zijn. Dit is een nieuw probleem, het speelt pas bij bestellingen van de afgelopen maanden”, zegt wetenschapper Dan Werthimer, grondlegger van het project SETI@home. SETI is een afkorting voor Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence (zoektocht naar buitenaardse intelligentie).
Werthimer legt uit waar de processoren voor nodig zijn: “We willen zo veel mogelijk frequenties bekijken, omdat we niet weten hoe ‘aliens’ hun boodschap sturen. Daar is veel rekenkracht voor nodig.” Op sommige plekken draaien honderd aan elkaar gekoppelde GPU’s tegelijk. GPU’s zijn in de eerste plaats bedoeld voor gamers, maar als ze aan elkaar gekoppeld worden, kunnen ze veel gegevens achter elkaar verwerken. Dat gebeurt bij wetenschappelijk onderzoek, maar ook bij het verwerken van virtuele munten zoals de bitcoin. Daarvoor moeten complexe wiskundige formules worden opgelost. Dat oplossen wordt minen of delven genoemd. Wie de oplossing vindt, krijgt als beloning 12,5 bitcoins. Bij de huidige koers is de waarde meer dan 90.000 euro. Elke tien minuten wordt zo’n bedrag uitgekeerd.

Pole shifts cause a major increase in the movement of the tectonic plates, the giant lines of opposing cracks in the earth’s crust which push and grind against each other until they periodically release like a balled fist in a closed palm flicking upwards.
There are now signs amongst the sharp increase in natural disasters and other strange, apparently unrelated incidents which point towards a possible reversal.
It is widely-recognized that magnetic north, that point at the top of the globe which compasses and devices which depend on magnetic navigation rely, is shifting increasingly quickly towards Russia from its current position above Greenland and nearer to Canada. It has moved 400 km in the last decade and is accelerating.
For centuries, Jupiter’s Great Red Spot — a colossal, swirling storm in the planet’s atmosphere — has hogged the attention of astronomers. But it’s time for the latte-styled planet to step aside and let Neptune show off its massive and putrid gas storms.
A team of astronomers have been tracking a storm potentially made of hydrogen sulfide gas in Neptune’s atmosphere. This smelly tempest was, at one point, as big as the Atlantic Ocean and made up of a gas that we humans release after a meal at Chipotle. This would essentially make it an ocean-spanning fart.
The once-massive cyclone slowly fizzled out instead of creating a spectacular outburst of cloud activity as hypothesized in pervious observations.
“It looks like we’re capturing the demise of this dark vortex, and it’s different from what well-known studies led us to expect,” said Michael H. Wong, the lead author of the study published on February 15, in a statement. “Their dynamical simulations said that anticyclones under Neptune’s wind shear would probably drift toward the equator. We thought that once the vortex got too close to the equator, it would break up and perhaps create a spectacular outburst of cloud activity.”
The team followed the death of this storm by using images taken by NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope, which first spotted it in 2015. The last time the spacecraft was able to capture storms on Neptune was in the mid-1990s, but they vanished without a trace. So the team intently watched this windstorm in order to finally try to understand the weather patterns found on the planet.
This series of Hubble Space Telescope images taken over two years tracks the demise of a giant dark vortex on the planet Neptune. The oval-shaped spot has shrunk from 3,100 miles across its long axis to 2,300 miles across, over the Hubble observation period.
The team of researchers was able to gather all of this information from Hubble alone. The probe is the only source of data astronomers have to study Neptune’s weather patterns, making it an incredibly valuable asset.
The NASA spacecraft can take pictures of galaxies millions of light years away and spot gigantic flatulence storms in our solar system. Not bad for a telescope that was launched into space in 1990.

De storm woedt al bijna 2,5 jaar, maar zijn einde is nabij.
Ongeveer 4,5 miljard kilometer verderop, op de verste bekende grote planeet in ons zonnestelsel, woedt een onheilspellende, donkere storm. Deze donkere vlek op de planeet Neptunus was ooit groot genoeg om zich over een gebied van Boston tot Portugal uit te strekken. Maar uit een nieuwe foto van ruimtetelescoop Hubble blijkt dat de storm nu langzaam gaat liggen.

Tegengestelde richting De storm wervelt precies de andere kant op dan de draairichting van de planeet. In zijn rotatie wroet hij materiaal uit de diepste krochten van de planeet los. Hoe de wervelstorm er precies uit ziet weten de onderzoekers niet. Het zou kunnen dat het materiaal in de donkere vlek waterstofsulfide is, met de doordringende geur van rotte eieren. “De deeltjes zelf zijn sterk reflecterend; ze zijn net iets donkerder dan de deeltjes uit de omringende atmosfeer,” legt onderzoeker Joshua Tellefson uit. Daarnaast is het ook onzeker hoe de wervelingen worden gevormd en hoe snel ze roteren. “Wat we wel weten is dat ze waarschijnlijk voortkomen uit een botsing tussen een oostwaartse en westelijke wind,” zegt onderzoeker Agustín Sánchez-Lavega.
Stormen op Neptunus spelen graag verstoppetje en verdwijnen net zo plotseling als dat ze komen. De eerste storm op de ijsreus werd waargenomen door ruimtevaartuig Voyager 2, aan het einde van de jaren tachtig. Sindsdien heeft alleen Hubble het vermogen gehad om de wervelstormen waar te nemen. In het midden van de jaren negentig ontdekte Hubble twee donkere stormen op Neptunus maar raakte ze al vrij snel weer uit het oog. De meest recente storm nam Hubble waar in 2015.
Jaren Hoewel stormen op de planeet Jupiter voor zeker honderden jaren zichtbaar zijn, duren de wervelingen op Neptunus slechts enkele jaren. Maar dit is de eerste keer dat onderzoekers een stervende storm op de ijsreus op beeld vastleggen. Opvallend is dat de donkere vortex zich anders gedraagt dan wetenschappers voorheen dachten. Zo werd er voorspeld dat de storm waarschijnlijk naar de evenaar van Neptunus zou afdrijven. “Wanneer de storm te dicht bij de evenaar zou komen, zou deze opbreken en misschien wel een spectaculaire uitbarsting van wolken vormen,” zegt onderzoeker Michael H. Wong. Maar in plaats van naar de evenaar toe te draaien, buigt de storm af naar de zuidpool. Een grote explosie blijft daarmee uit.
Stormen op Neptunus zijn niet gemakkelijk waar te nemen. Zo zijn veel telescopen niet krachtig genoeg om de donkere vlek te kunnen spotten. Alleen telescoop Hubble heeft vrij zicht op de planeet. Voorlopig kan dus alleen Hubble ons meer vertellen over de fascinerende neptunische stormen die over de ijsreus razen.:

The merest mention of a strange sighting at a secret military test base is enough to set internet conspiracy theorists aquiver.
Now UFO hunters are struggling to explain why a strange structure shaped like an ‘alien UFO’ has been built outside a naval research facility about 500 miles away from the mysterious Area 51.
Since we first revealed the location of a weird object spotted on Google Maps, readers have been getting in touch to give their own theories about the structure.
It’s been suggested that the spaceship-shaped construction is merely a cess-pit or fish farm.
Some alien hunters believe it’s a message to the stars, whilst others claim it’s a prop destined to be used in a fake extraterrestrial invasion – which is certainly an imaginative explanation.

Now we’ve received the most compelling theory about the structure: it’s an artificial lake used to test weapons.
This theory is backed up by the fact there appear to be loads of tanks dotted around the desert nearby, as well as rusty-looking aeroplanes.
Several boats can be seen near the mystery object itself. Seeing as you don’t generally find boats in the desert, it’s a fair bet they are being used for more than just fishing trips.
However, we have been unable to find a similar structure at other American military bases using Google Maps satellite images.
Test ranges tend to look fairly strange, as you can see in the pictures below, with some looking as if they are crop circle-style messages to aliens.
But if you see a weird structure near a military base, it’s reasonable to expect it’s being used to help devise new and improved ways of blowing things up.

‘They float targets in it and then make them go away. Take off the tin foil hats, stop gargling vinegar and step away from the conspiracy theories.

The sighting of a bizarre ‘object’ near Area 51 sent UFO hunters into a frenzy this week.
Now we can shed new light on the history of the site where a strange shape resembling an ‘alien ship’ was spotted on Google Maps.
Historical images of the site show that the mysterious structure has been under construction for several years.
Using Google Maps, we found that the site was little more than a patch of empty desert in 2005, although what looks like the outline of a building or small channels of water are visible.
Satellite imagery shows that two shapes were then built in the ground, one of which appears to be either filled with water or covered with tarpaulin.

Only the most hardcore UFO hunters actually believed the ‘object’ was an alien craft, but there’s every chance it’s been used to test out secret new weapons.
It was first spotted by the YouTube channel SecureTeam10, which said it was found in Area 51 – a world famous base linked to countless numbers of alien conspiracies.
The strange structure is actually located near the Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake, which is used to test weapons and is located about 500 miles from Area 51.
Recent images show that the area is dotted with tanks, boats and even aeroplanes. Boats were also seen right next to the object, further suggesting it’s a body of water rather than a building.
Could the strange structure have been built to test out scary new weapons? Sadly, we’ll probably never know because if the military is involved, then there’s bound to be something top secret going on.
It could also have a rather unglamorous explanation. It’s been suggested the ‘object is a fish farm or even a boring old cesspit.

One reader got in touch to offer this suggestion: ‘It looks to me to be a lagoon, possibly for water storage. It seems to have started as a larger rectangular shape then changed to two round ones with a pointed side extension.
‘The excavations can clearly be seen and the black area looks like a lining material. The boat shows up in later shots, they needed access for some reason. Could it be a fish farm?’
We also revealed the existence of a creepy ‘death circle’ near the naval base.
Last November, The War Zone posted an exclusive story detailing a bizarre incident involving an unidentified aircraft that transited the skies of the Pacific Northwest in the early evening of October 25th, 2017. What started as a radar target moving at very high speed over Northern California turned into a series of eyewitness accounts made by nearby airline pilots traveling northward over Oregon. Even F-15 fighters were launched to intercept the mysterious intruder that quickly became invisible to radar.
Now, through the Freedom of Information Act, we present what could be one of the most insightful instances of official documentation surrounding such an encounter that had already been confirmed to have occurred by both the FAA and the USAF. These materials include fascinating audio recordings of radio transmissions and phone calls made as the incident was unfolding, as well as pilot interviews, and conversations between FAA officials made in the aftermath of the highly peculiar incident.
For proper context, make sure to first read our original post linked heredetailing the event, how our report came to be in the first place, as well as the rare confirmations as to its authenticity from both the FAA and the USAF. Below is also a short explainer video that will give you a basic overview of the incident.
Fast forward three months later, and now we have so much more evidence that adds incredible depth and color to our original report and the limited radio recordings we originally had to go off of. Via our Freedom of Information Act Request we received hours of audio, all with unique elements that add to this story. What we have done is packaged that audio, as well as the radar data provided, into four separate videos. We will highlight some of the big takeaways from each video in our piece, but we cannot stress enough how interesting and eye opening this audio is to listen to in full, so we highly recommend you do so by watching each video in its entirety.
The first video includes audio from the initial spotting of the object as it ripped its way across Northern California at high speed, before it took a turn north and merged with nearby air traffic and disappeared from radar. Once again, beyond becoming invisible to radar, this aircraft had no transponder broadcasting nor did it ever communicate verbally with air traffic controllers. The audio in the video goes on to be sync'd in real-time with radar data obtained via our FOIA request.
Oakland Center Sector 31 first detected the target around 4:30pm PST. Below is a chart showing where Oakland Center's high altitude sectors are situated around Northern California. Sector 31 spans roughly from Sacramento up towards Redding, before its northern edge, which is near the border with Oregon, terminates and Seattle Center's airspace begins. To the east, the airspace sits along the California-Nevada border. This makes sense as the craft was eventually tracked by airline pilots as it made its way up over Crater Lake and towards the Willamette Valley.
In the audio the Oakland Center controller notes that it is near his boundary, so it seems the aircraft's first appearance officially occurred near the border of Oakland Center Sector 31 and Seattle Center Sector 13 or 14. The target was moving "very fast at 37,000" feet when it was first detected.

The "intruder" quickly dropped off radar and that's when the visual sightings made by airline crews began. They continued for roughly half an hour and over hundreds of miles. The exchanges between nearby pilots and air traffic control regarding the unidentified aircraft were constant in the audio, with the same description coming back time and again—that of a white aircraft cruising at around 37,000 feet that is too far away to tell the type or if it has markings of any kind on it.
At roughly 27:30 into the video we get our first indication that the F-15s out of PDX are about to scramble, with the air traffic controller noting this while talking to another FAA controller, during which the controller also reiterates that there has still been no radar contact with the aircraft. The controller also repeatedly asks aircrews nearby to check their Traffic Collision Avoidance Systems (TCAS) for the aircraft, which all come back negative.

The F-15s first appear on radar as they climb out of Portland to the south at time index 33:33 as "Rock" flight—a common callsign used for the alert F-15s stationed at PDX. Alaska 439 asks for an update on the unidentified aircraft and the controller notes they still have nothing on him, saying colloquially thatit must be in a kind of "stealth mode or something." It's also interesting that the F-15s first went south when it seems as if the object would have been north of PDX by the time they finally launched.
This second video is just the radar data in its raw form. It starts before the sync'd recording begins above so we thought we would post it in full so our readers can take a closer look if they want.
Next we move into some very interesting recordings of FAA phone calls that occurred as all of this was taking place. We edited out dead space in the audio between phone calls and bleeped the names of those who named themselves. Aside from that, the audio is unedited by us, although we cannot be certain if parts were redacted by the FAA or not. There were a few strange areas where conversations went mute and it's not clear if this was edited or just an anomaly. The primary person talking in most of these calls is the Operations Manager In Charge for Seattle Center at the time that the incident took place.
The first call is to Oakland Center, and it occurs early on after the initial radar detection and as pilots began spotting the craft visually. He also mentions that "air defense" is looking for the target now too (on radar), so it shows how early the military was involved in the encounter.
You will notice that the term "DEN" is referred to repeatedly in these recordings. That is the Domestic Events Network, a sort of hotline system that is used to bridge the FAA with federal authorities, namely the military, during a number of circumstances which you can read about here. You will also hear the term "WADS" and the nickname/callsign "Bigfoot." This refers to the Western Air Defense sector of NORAD that monitors the airspace over a huge swath of territory in the United States and Canada. Based out of McChord AFB in Washington, WADS scrambles the fighters when needed and works to direct them to their targets of interest during domestic air sovereignty missions, among other responsibilities.
When the Manager In Charge is asked if he was asking for military assistance by another FAA controller, the tape goes blank. The same inquiry is heard moments later, and it goes silent again before another call begins. Although it really doesn't have much impact on the greater mystery, who asked for the F-15s to scramble and when, comes up in the next video in an exchange between the same manager and an FAA official.
In the final set of calls in the video we hear controllers talking about how the Air Force wants to set up an air patrol over Battle Ground, Washington, which is a dozen miles directly north of PDX. We know the F-15s headed south initially, so it isn't clear if this call came after they initially headed in that direction or before they were even airborne and the plan changed later on for some reason. Once again "Rock" refers to the callsign of the alert fighters.
Finally, we get to our last and most interesting of our evidence videos. It contains the calls made after the incident occurred. Seattle Center's Manager In Charge of Operations tries to figure out what happened exactly. In doing so he talks once again with Seattle Center and the trio of airline pilots that spotted the craft visually and has some very interesting conversations with the FAA's Air Traffic Organization Security office and the agency's Safety and Quality Assurance Group.
First we hear about the big question as to who "requested" the scramble, as according to the call, it has to come from FAA headquarters. The manager floats the idea, in retrospect, of having the airliners keep a visual on the craft instead of allowing them to descending into PDX, at least until the F-15s show up, but the FAA official swats that down as they didn't know what the aircraft was, "if they are equipped with anything" or its intentions. She reiterates that getting the military involved was a good idea but that it should have come from FAA headquarters over the DEN. The manager reminds her again that he doesn't know who requested military assistance and that Oakland Center told him to call WADS initially.
Next we hear from Oakland Center again, at first discussing who ordered the scramble, but then the conversation goes into talking about what actually happened. Both agree that there was "definitely something out there" with the Oakland Center controller saying the aircraft first appeared going southbound at high speed before executing an abrupt maneuver and then "took off northbound." Even figuring out how to report the encounter seems totally foreign to both higher ranking controllers, with one stating "I have a feeling someone is going to go through this with a fine-tooth comb."

Then we get into the pilot interviews over the phone, with the manager's intention being for each crew to write up a report detailing
their individual perspective of the incident. During the call with United 612 there are some odd dropped moments, but the pilot describes the encounter, stating that he was too far away to make out the type. The next call, with Alaska Airlines 525, also doesn't reveal much as the crew says they never were able to see it, but the crew of Skywest 3478 did, although he didn't have much to add.
The call with the pilot of Southwest 4712 was by far the most interesting. He immediately notes how strange the encounter was and how he has never seen an incident like it in nearly 30 years of flying jets. The pilot noted, "if it was like a Lear (private jet) type airframe I probably would not have seen it this clear. This was a white airplane and it was big. And it was moving at a clip too, because we were keeping pace with it, it was probably moving faster than we were... It was a larger aircraft yeah." He also said they watched the object from Northern California all the way to their descent into Portland.

The manager's final call, was with the FAA's Quality Assurance Group, who is taken by surprise by the details surrounding the event, and especially with the fact that nobody still knew what the aircraft was or where it ended up. "Wow that's weird" is the operative quote by the FAA official, which is insightful to say the least as these people deal with unique incidents that occur in American airspace on a daily basis. The manager agreed with the sentiment and noted that it wasn't some small aircraft and it was moving fast, outpacing a 737 cruising nearby. The official also says that the incident should be classified as "potentially significant" on reporting documents. She even said that this was "a weird enough thing that there is not a set procedure... It's not often we hear about an unknown guy up at that altitude."
Collectively these materials give us incredible insight not only into this incident, but also into how such an event is actually handled in real-time by those who are responsible for the safety of those in the air and those on ground below. What they don't offer is any sort of an explanation for what happened on that fall evening. But really, the fact that all those involved, from air traffic controllers, to Air Force radar operators, to airline pilots, and even special FAA officials tasked with responding to all types of out of the ordinary incidents that occur in the sky on a daily basis seem just as puzzled with this event as we are makes the story all that much more intriguing.
Above all else, this new evidence underscores just how rare these events actually are, especially ones that include multiple sightings, the use of multiple sensors, the involvement of various agencies including the military, and some of the most capable air-to-air fighters in the world. And after recent reports unmasking how the Pentagon remains highly interested in encounters just like this one, it holds even more weight than it did three months ago.
We will continue to investigate this bizarre incident and we will keep you updated as to what else we discover.
A solar storm is forecast to hit Earth on Feb. 15, 2018.

A solar storm is forecast to hit Earth early Thursday after the Sun unleashed a powerful solar flare — a burst of high-energy radiation — Sunday night.
NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory Satellite captured a solar flare on the Sun releasing a coronal mass ejection (CME) around 8:25 p.m. ET Sunday.
“[CMEs] are huge explosions of magnetic field and plasma from the Sun’s corona,” the Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC) explained in a post online. “When CMEs impact the Earth’s magnetosphere, they are responsible for geomagnetic storms and enhanced aurora.”
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOA) issued a G1 (minor) geomagnetic storm watch for Thursday.
Here’s what you need to know about solar storms — and how they can impact the Earth — before one hits the planet on Thursday.
What is a solar flare?
Magnetic storms on the surface of the Sun can cause what is known as “solar flares.”
“A solar flare is an intense burst of radiation coming from the release of magnetic energy associated with sunspots,” according to NASA. “Flares are our solar system’s largest explosive events.”

If the storm is strong enough it will cause a CME, which is what happened in this case.
“The strongest flares are almost always correlated with coronal mass ejections,” NASA points out.
How do solar storms impact Earth?
There are a variety of things that could potentially happen.
The storm could increase the brightness and visibility of auroras, also known as the Southern or Northern Lights. ”Aurora may be visible at high latitudes, i.e., northern tier of the U.S. such as northern Michigan and Maine,” the NOAA said in an alert Wednesday.
Regions may notice weak power grid fluctuations, though that’s unlikely to happen in this “minor” storm.
Minor damage Earth-orbiting satellites,”especially those in high, geosynchronous orbits” could occur, NASA says.
High frequency radio waves could be “degraded,” NASA adds.
A NASA study warns solar storms could confuse the internal compasses of marine mammals, causing an increase in strandings on beaches.
“Geomagnetic storms are more disruptive now than in the past because of our greater dependence on technical systems that can be affected by electric currents and energetic particles high in the Earth’s magnetosphere,” NASA explains.
Should we be worried?
Not really. This particular storm is catergorized as minor, but that doesn't mean it can't impact the Earth.
Solar storms are actually pretty common. On average, solar activity increases every 11 years, NASA scientists say, and there's an uptick in solar flares during these cycles.
Fortunately, Earth’s atmosphere and magnetic field keep us well-protected.
“Some people worry that a gigantic ‘killer solar flare’ could hurl enough energy to destroy Earth, but this is not actually possible,” NASA explained in a 2013 article online. "Even at their worst, the sun's flares are not physically capable of destroying Earth."
For years, people have lived through solar storms without harm.
"In general, the physical danger is low and controllable," CNET reported, citing the NOAA, after a solar storm struck Earth in March 2012. "The biological hazard inherent in solar and geomagnetic storms comes from the exposure to radiation, which is mainly a concern for astronauts and people flying at high altitudes."
The "explosive heat" from solar flares can’t directly hit our planet, but the flares can, however, cause plenty of disruptions (like the ones listed above).

As many students of Ufology will be aware, the last couple of decades or so have seen a rise in reports of one particular type of UFO. It has become known as the Flying Triangle. The FTs are triangular in shape and very often black in color, hence the name, of course! They often emit a low humming noise, and have a trio of lights on their underside. They usually have rounded corners too, rather than sharply angled edges. And, in some ways, they are not unlike the Northrop Grumman B-2 Spirit (otherwise known as the Stealth Bomber) in design. This has, quite naturally, given rise to the possibility that the FTs are next-generation Stealth planes, rather than true UFOs. It’s not an unreasonable assumption. But there’s a problem with that scenario: the FTs are actually not new, or even recent, at all.
While digging through a whole host of formerly classified files on UFOs at the National Archives at Kew, England in 1996, I came across a one-page report dated 28 March 1965 that, I confess, I almost overlooked. On closer inspection, however, I realized that it was potentially one of the most important UFO-related documents that I had ever come across. According to the MoD paperwork, on the night in question a witness saw at approximately 9.30 p.m. over moor-land near Richmond, North Yorkshire, England: “Nine or ten objects – in close triangular formation each about 100ft long – orange illumination below – each triangular in shape with rounded corners, making low humming noise.”
Interestingly, as noted in the first paragraph of this article, the “rounded corners” and “low humming noise” are precisely what many witnesses to Flying Triangle-style UFO encounters are reporting today – in a world-wide capacity, no less.
Recognizing the significance of this, I made a photocopy of the document and set about locating the witness, who is named in the files, I should stress. This did not prove to be a difficult task. I introduced myself and explained that I had located at the National Archives a copy of the original report that dealt with his sighting all those years ago. It is fair to say that the man was shocked, to say the least, to find that details of his long-gone encounter had been kept on file by the MoD for more than thirty years.
“Yes, I did send in a report all those years ago, but I didn’t think they would have kept it all this time,” he told me, with astonishment in his voice. As he explained, on 28 March 1965 at approximately 9.30 p.m., he had been driving through the North Yorkshire moors. On approaching the village of Skeeby, near Richmond, however, the engine of his car began to splutter and die.
“It was a 1951 Ford,” he states, adding with some humor, “and it was a good car but a bit unpredictable at times. I didn’t want to break down on the moor because it was icy cold and the nights were still dark. I got out of the car to have a look at the engine and that’s when I saw this light.”
He continued: “At first, because it was so dark, I wondered if it might be a weather balloon. But then I had a good look at it over the hedge and realized how big it was and how low down it was. It was about one hundred feet from end-to-end, about one hundred feet above the moors and shaped like a huge triangle and white, milky-white in colour.
“It kept coming towards me and then stopped about two hundred yards from me over the moors. It hovered for a while – nothing came out of it, but there was a light below it that just pulsated like a light bulb. There could have been quite a few lights on it but from a distance the light just looked like a glow. Then without a warning, it just took off at a speed that isn’t recognised. Good gracious, I thought, it must be a UFO!
“As it shot up, not vertically but at an angle, it joined a group of others that were identical and that were in a triangular or V-formation. The others were very, very high; a whole fleet of them. They all then headed south, I think, at a tremendous speed and disappeared over the horizon. I saw the main one for no more than a couple of minutes,” he recalls, “but after they had gone I was still stood by the moor watching this fleet disappear. I waited in case something else exciting happened, but of course it didn’t.”
Curiously, shortly after the encounter, and after having reported the incident to the Ministry of Defence at Whitehall, the witness began to notice “awful red marks on my skin which were like a stretch mark, but they were like a deep salmon red and they kept coming and going. But I didn’t have them before.”
The most bizarre angle of the entire episode was still to come, however, as the man now graphically illustrates: “For about eighteen months after the sighting, I would get strange telephone calls from people. These would be every two or three months. They just phoned out of the blue but didn’t introduce themselves. They just said they were from some bureau or other. They didn’t mention the name of the bureau but kept mentioning ‘sightings’ and asked whether I had seen anything else strange. Had any men come to interview me?”
The witness was never visited by anyone with regard to his Flying Triangle encounter, nor did the MoD ever offer an explanation as to what it was that he saw on that fateful night in March 1965. He was, however, unnerved by those mysterious telephone calls – primarily because aside from informing the MoD of what had occurred, he made no other report (either official or unofficial) with anyone and kept the details to himself: “The only report I ever made was the one I sent to the MoD. It was so exciting that I had to tell someone.”
This important testimony raises a number of vital questions. Why was someone so determined to find out if the witness had received any strange visits with regard to his encounter? Why the interest in knowing if he had had any other unusual encounters of a UFO nature? And most important of all: who was his mysterious caller?
Finally, if as some researchers contend, the Flying Triangles are a relatively modern day creation of the military, how is that an entire squadron of them – right down to the triangular shape, the underside-illumination, and the low humming sound – could have been seen flying over England almost 50 years ago?.

De acuerdo con los documentos del Ministerio de Defensa, en la noche en cuestión , un testigo vio aproximadamente a las 21:30 hs , cerca de Richmond, North Yorkshire, Inglaterra, lo siguiente: "Nueve o diez objetos - en estrecha formación triangular, cada uno de aproximadamente 100 pies de largo - con iluminación naranja abajo - siendo todos ellos de forma triangular con esquinas redondeadas y que hacía un leve zumbido ".
Curiosamente, como se ha señalado en el primer párrafo de este artículo: las "esquinas redondeadas" y " el zumbido" ... es precisamente lo que muchos testigos de encuentros OVNI con éste tipo Triángulo están informando hoy en día , nada menos.
Reconociendo la importancia de esto, hice una fotocopia del documento y me dispuse a localizar al testigo, que lleva el nombre de los archivos... he de destacar que no resultó sencillo . Me presenté y le expliqué que había localizado en el Archivo Nacional una copia del informe original que se ocupa de su avistamiento de hace tantos años. Es justo decir que el hombre se sorprendió, por decir lo menos, al saber que los detalles de su encuentro, se habían mantenido en los archivos del Ministerio de Defensa por más de treinta años.
"Sí, yo envié en un informe hace tantos años... Pero no imaginé que lo hubieran mantenido todo este tiempo ", me dijo, con asombro en su voz. Según explicó, el 28 de marzo de 1965, aproximadamente a las 21:30hs, había estado conduciendo a través de North Yorkshire Moors. Al acercarme a Skeeby , cerca de Richmond, el motor de su coche comenzó a fallar. "Era un Ford 1951 ", afirmó y añadió con humor "... Era un buen coche, pero un poco impredecible a veces. Salí del coche para echar un vistazo a el motor y ahí fue cuando vi esta luz".
Y continuó: "Al principio,como estaba muy oscuro, me preguntaba si podría ser un globo meteorológico. "Siguió avanzando hacia mí y se detuvo a unos doscientos metros de mí a través de los páramos. Voló por un tiempo,no salió nada de él, pero había una luz debajo que sólo palpitaba como una bombilla. Podría haber habido un buen número de luces encendidas, pero desde la distancia la luz sólo se veía como un resplandor. Entonces, sin una advertencia despegó a una velocidad que no se reconoce. ¡Dios mío, pensé, debe ser un OVNI!...
"A medida que se disparó, pero no verticalmente en un ángulo, se unió a un grupo que eran idénticos y que estaban en una formación de V o triangular. Los otros estaban muy, muy alto, toda una flota de ellos. Todos ellos se dirigieron hacia el sur, creo, a una velocidad tremenda y desaparecieron por el horizonte. Y lo más importante de todo: ¿quién era la misteriosa persona que llamaba?.

Archaeologists From India Ask NASA For Help To Investigate Paintings Of UFOs And Aliens
Is NASA set out to help India archaeologists to investigate 10,000-year-old paintings of what appears to be UFOs and beings wearing space suits? According to the Daily Star, the answer is yes.
All around the world, prehistoric cultures tried conveying a message through ancient rock art.
No matter where we look, whether its Northern, central, and South America, to Europe, Asia, and Africa, people who lived on Earth thousands of years ago created art, depicting what they had witnessed during their lifetime.
Some of these ancient rock carvings depict ordinary scenes of daily life like hunting while other illustrations challenge our very understanding of human history.
Do these ancient cave paintings really depict UFOs?
If we travel to India, for example, we will find a number of curious cave paintings, where some of the images appear to depict ‘figures’ that carry some sort of weapons and are dressed in what many consider are ‘space suits’.
A group of Indian archaeologists has approached NASA and the Indian Space Research Agency to help them decipher some prehistoric paintings found in 2014 in the Charama caves in the central state of Chhattisgarh. Many of these 10,000-year-old petroglyphs represent figures similar to extraterrestrials and UFOs as seen in modern-day science fiction movies.
Archaeologist JR Bhagat was perplexed by the images, reports Daily Star.
“The findings suggest that prehistoric humans could have seen or imagined beings from other planets, something that continues to arouse the curiosity of people and researchers today,” said the archaeologists according to the Daily Star.
JR Bhagat explains that in the city of Charma, there aren’t experts in the field who could help solve the mystery behind the curious depictions, and what ancient mankind wanted to say.
The researcher explained that some parts of the drawings are difficult to interpret and that some of the characters are represented by objects that look like weapons.
“The paintings are done in natural colors that have hardly faded despite the years. The strangely carved figures are seen holding weapon-like objects and do not have clear features. Especially, the nose and mouth are missing. In few pictures, they are even shown wearing space suits. We can’t refute the possibility of imagination by prehistoric men but humans usually fancy such things,” said Bhagat.
The video was uploaded to YouTube channel The Lost History Channel in February of 2018 has already received more than 7,000 views.
One comment read: “Evidence is everywhere, we need opened eyes, that’s all.”
And another claimed: “We don’t need to find aliens, they are already here all around us.”
India isn’t the only place where such rock art is found.
If we take a look at other ancient sites around the globe, we will notice how thousands of years ago, ancient people around the globe created a number of petroglyphs and cave paintings. Why ancient man depicted strange beings with 5 or 6 fingers, helmets, sandals, and what appear to be space suits is a mystery no one has been able to answer.
In Australia for example, ancient mankind created hundreds of mysterious cave paintings which are known today as the Wandjina Cave Paintings. This set of curious rock art depicts could be well over 100,000 years old, and shows mysterious beings which massive eyes, large heads, and strange construction.
Some authors suggest that the Wandjina Cave Paintings are some of the earliest examples of alien contact.

After more than half a decade, ‘British Roswell’ UFO Records covered in Alien ‘Hieroglyphics have been rediscovered at a Science Museum in England.
Groundbreaking pieces of evidence of Britain’s Infamous Silpho Moor UFO Crash have been rediscovered inside London’s Science Museum
Last year, the British government decided to declassify the secret files on UFO sightings following a new law on freedom of information.
Among the documents that were published was the “Rendlesham Forest UFO incident”, which dealt with one of the best-known sightings in the country.
In addition to this, official documents also revealed that the British Ministry of Defense established a secret UFO research group in the 1950s, in which the Directorate of Scientific Intelligence and the Joint Technical Intelligence Committee participated.

This ‘hot’ declassified information showed how the British Government had great in the UFO phenomenon.
However, the most important testimony today is that of Nick Pope, who worked for more than 20 years for the Ministry of Defense as the head of official research on unidentified flying objects.
His job was to evaluate UFO reports in the country.
What he learned was that at least some UFOs were undoubtedly technological objects of unknown origin, potentially of great importance for the defense of Britain.
Today, when the UFO phenomenon is one of the most-discussed subjects in the world, great progress is being made towards disclosure, or at least that’s what leading Ufologists say.
Apparently, Aliens crash-landed in Britain as well.

Thanks to countless classified documents being released by various governments around the world, dealing with UFO’s and alleged alien visitations, progress towards uncovering the truth is being made nearly on a daily basis.
Now, the missing ‘wreckage’ of “Britain’s Roswell” has been found stored in a cigarette tin and kept away hidden in a storage room in a London museum. The recently ‘rediscovered’ remains are believed to be part of a UFO that crashed in England nearly 60 years ago.
The objects in question were originally discovered in Silpho Moor, near Scarborough, England, in 1957.
The disk-shaped object that had allegedly crash-landed in England was approximately 45cm in diameter and weighed 15kg, and inscribed with mysterious hieroglyphics similar to those found in the remains of the Roswell incident in 1947, the best-known UFO incident in history. It is considered the British answer to the American Roswell crash.
Apparently, the unidentified object that had crashed in England contained a book made of 17 thin sheets of copper, each covered with various undecipherable hieroglyphics.
A Local café owner by the name of Phillip Longbottom claimed the hieroglyphs translated into a 2000-word message sent by an alien civilization, and contained a warning that read: “You will improve or disappear.”
The alleged fragments said to belong to the wreckage of the Silpho UFO found in 1957.

Interestingly, tests carried out at Manchester University revealed the object’s shell contained lead and the copper parts were of unusually high purity. Despite this fact, experts from the Museum of Natural History in London quickly decided that the “UFO Silpho” was a well-crafted hoax, since there was no evidence that the metal was from another part of the solar system, and that the UFO remains did not show signs of having passed through the Earth’s atmosphere at high temperatures.
However, Air Chief Marshal Lord Dowding, who led the RAF Fighter Command in the Battle of England during World War II, personally examined the mysterious object in 1959 and concluded that it was a flying saucer of extraterrestrial origin.
For decades, conspiracy theorists claimed that the UFO was intentionally destroyed to cover up the incident.
But now it is known that the items were sent to the Science Museum in 1963, where the evidence was “lost” in the archives of the museum.
Dr. David Clarke, a professor at the University of Sheffield Hallam, discovered the remains of the strange unidentified object after giving a lecture at the museum about the publication of the UFO files of the Ministry of Defense.

Speaking about the recent discovery, Dr. David Clarke who has a Ph.D. in British folklore and cultural tradition said:
“One of the museum staff tapped me on the shoulder and asked if I was aware that ‘bits of a flying saucer’ had been kept in a cigarette tin in the museum group store for decades.
“I was absolutely amazed when later we opened the tin box and saw the wreckage. It was obvious these were the remains of the missing Silpho Saucer that some have claimed as Britain’s answer to the famous Roswell incident.
“It’s incredible to hear that pieces of this mystery object have been sitting in a museum archive for more than half a century.”
As noted by the Yorkshire Post, the artifacts sent to the museum included a section of the metal-plastic outer casing, a short length of copper tubing, and several shards of foil from the “booklet” found inside.

Have We Discovered Another Earth? 95 New Planets Outside Our Solar System Found By NASA
It’s a huge discovery which places the current number of alien planets confirmed close to 3,600. The discovery is important for astronomers to map the solar systems of the Milky Way.
Astronomers exploring the cosmos have confirmed the existence of 95 new alien planets after combing through 275 possible candidates provided by NASA’s Kepler Telescope.
The space probe, which is currently on its K2 mission has found thousands of candidates since it was launched nearly ten years ago, when it launched from Cape Canaveral on March 7th, 2009. As noted by mission specialists. In total, Kepler has found around 5,000 unconfirmed ‘candidate’ exoplanets.
One of the most significant discoveries made by Kepler took place in 2004 when it spotted exoplanet Kepler-452b, dubbed ‘Earth 2.0’, an alien world eerily similar to our planet, located 1,400 light years away.

The new discovery is of great importance as it is a huge step towards finding a new Earth, capable of hosting life as we know it.
The study was done by an international group of scientists led by Dr. Andrew Mayo from the National Space Institute at the Technical University of Denmark.
Dr. Mayo said in a statement that the investigation began with the analysis of 275 exoplanet candidates. These candidates are luminous signals whose origin can be related to other stars or errors of the telescope and that, therefore, must be analyzed in depth before being confirmed as exoplanets.
“We found that some of the signals were caused by systems of several stars and/or by the noise of the telescope. But we also detect planets of all sizes: from worlds smaller than Earth to larger than Jupiter,” Mayo said in a statement.
“By increasing the number of planets discovered with K2 by almost 50 percent, this work will help astronomers dive much deeper into analyzing and learning about individual planets, particularly smaller exoplanets,” Dr. Mayo said in an interview with Gizmodo.
One of the recently spotted worlds orbits a very bright alien star.
‘We validated a planet on a 10-day orbit around a star called HD 212657, }which is now the brightest star found by either the Kepler or K2 missions to host a validated planet. Planets around bright stars are important because astronomers can learn a lot about them from ground-based observatories,’ said Dr. Mayo.
‘Exoplanets are a very exciting field of space science. As more planets are discovered, astronomers will develop a much better picture of the nature of exoplanets which in turn will allow us to place our own solar system into a galactic context’.
The 1st known interstellar asteroid – ‘Oumuamua – is tumbling chaotically. A new study suggests its tumble resulted from a violent collision.
The strange interstellar visitor to our solar system – dubbed ‘Oumuamua by astronomers – is tumbling as it moves through space. A new study suggests its chaotic tumble is likely to continue at least another billion years, and it suggests ‘Oumuamua’s tumble is the result of a violent collision with another asteroid in the past. This collision might have knocked ‘Oumuamua out of its original solar system and sent it toward our solar system.
Astronomer Wes Fraser of Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, led this new research. Fraser and his team analyzed all the available data from optical photometry; that is, they looked at the data on how ‘Oumuamua’s brightness varied over time. Then they used computer modeling to understand why ‘Oumuamua varied in brightness, and to spin out reasonable possibilities for its past and future. Their study was published in the peer-reviewed journal Nature Astronomy on February 9, 2018. Fraser said:
Our modeling of this body suggests the tumbling will last for many billions of years to hundreds of billions of years before internal stresses cause it to rotate normally again.
While we don’t know the cause of the tumbling, we predict that it was most likely sent tumbling by an impact with another planetesimal in its system, before it was ejected into interstellar space.
‘Oumuamua’s tumbling isn’t new. The object was reported last fall to have a 7 or 8-hour spin period; different measurements showed slightly different results. The most likely explanation was that ‘Oumuamua’s spin isn’t regular, as is the spin of most (but not all) asteroids in our solar system. Instead, ‘Oumuamua tumbles.
Its complex tumbling motion means we see different views of the asteroid’s body at different times, and so the tumbling of ‘Oumuamua can explain the curious color change observed by astronomers. The cigar-shaped asteroid’s surface might be variously colored. Fraser said:
Most of the surface reflects neutrally, but one of its long faces has a large red region. This argues for broad compositional variations, which is unusual for such a small body.
It also settles the question of whether ‘Oumuamua is solid. Answer: it is. As Matija Cuk explained in an article for the SETI Institute, asteroids are often just piles of rocks and sand loosely held together by gravity. When this is the case, she wrote:
… internal motions of material inside asteroids … damp this tumbling relatively quickly (astronomically speaking), leaving only asteroids that suffered recent collisions as tumblers. ‘Oumuamua spent many millions of years in the interstellar void, so it should have damped its tumbling, but it apparently did not. This made planetary scientists conclude that ‘Oumuamua is likely a solid chunk of rock or metal, without any internal structure or loose material.

And so – despite its quick trip through our solar system – we continue to learn more about ‘Oumuamua. In case you weren’t following it last fall, some astronomers thought the object was a comet when the Pan-STARRS 1 telescope in Hawai’i first picked it up on October 19 as a faint point of light moving across the sky. Others thought it looked like a typical fast-moving small asteroid. As astronomers tracked its motion through space, they began to be able to calculate its orbit, showing beyond any doubt that this body did not originate from inside our solar system, like all other asteroids or comets ever observed.
Instead, this object was doubtless from interstellar space. It was the first such object known.
The question of whether it was a comet or asteroid was put to rest after astronomers looked at ‘Oumuamua’s location in the sky prior to its discovery and found no signs of cometary activity after the object passed closest to the sun in September 2017.
That’s when it was reclassified as an interstellar asteroid – the first ever observed – and named 1I/2017 U1 (‘Oumuamua). A statement from the Institute for Astronomy (IfA) at the University of Hawaii described the intricacies of naming this object:
Originally denoted A/2017 U1 (with the A for asteroid), the body is now the first to receive an I (for interstellar) designation from the International Astronomical Union, which created the new category after the discovery. In addition, it has been officially given the name ‘Oumuamua. The name, which was chosen in consultation with Hawaiian language experts Ka’iu Kimura and Larry Kimura, reflects the way this object is like a scout or messenger sent from the distant past to reach out to us (‘ou means “reach out for,” and mua, with the second mua placing emphasis, means “first, in advance of”).
Astronomers had been expecting to find interstellar asteroids. Before ‘Oumuamua’s discovery, they had estimated that an interstellar asteroid similar to this one passes through the inner solar system about once per year. Such objects are faint and hard to spot, and so they haven’t been seen before this.
But recent survey telescopes, such as Pan-STARRS, are powerful enough to discover them. Thus – although it’s the first – ‘Oumuamua is likely not the last known interstellar asteroid.
Bottom line: A study of ‘Oumuamua’s chaotic tumbling motion suggests it’ll tumble at least another billion years. It also suggests a violent past for this object – a collision with another object – which likely sent it careening toward our solar system.
