The existence of two classified Pentagon reports on UFOs has been revealed, the contents of which include a leaked photo depicting a mysterious object hovering over the Atlantic.
The DoD's Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force issued the two classified intelligence 'position reports' in 2018 and the summer of this year, and they circulated widely in the U.S. intelligence community, according to a detailed account from The Debrief based on interviews with multiple intelligence sources.
The position reports' startling contents included a leaked photo that has never before been made public, accounts of 'Unidentified Aerial Phenomena' (UAP) emerging from the ocean and soaring through the sky, and an admission that extraterrestrial origins for the objects cannot be ruled out.
'These revelations are extraordinary, and give the public a genuine peek behind the curtain when it comes to how the US government is handling the UFO issue,' Nick Pope, who investigated UFOs for the UK Ministry of Defence, told DailyMail.com.
'What this new information does is confirm that the US government is taking the UFO phenomenon more seriously than ever before,' he added. 'I anticipate further revelations shortly.'
The Pentagon did not immediately respond to an inquiry from DailyMail.com requesting confirmation of the existence of the two position reports, as well as the authenticity of a leaked cockpit photo included in one of the reports.

The leaked photo was was captured in 2018 off the East Coast of the United States by a military pilot using his cell phone camera, the sources said.
The photo was previously described as depicting an 'unidentified silver 'cube-shaped' object' hovering over the ocean at an altitude of roughly 30,000 to 35,000.
It appears that the image was captured by the backseat weapons systems operator of what appears to be an F/A-18 fighter jet.
Experts were baffled by the photo, but noted that the object somewhat resembles a GPS dropsonde, an atmospheric profiling device designed to be dropped from aircraft, typically over a hurricane.
The object is shaped similar to the parachute on a dropsonde (above) -- but the atmospheric devices plunge quickly toward earth, and no GPS transponder is seen dangling below the object
However, the object in the photo does not have the GPS transponder dangling from it as a dropsonde does -- and dropsondes plunge toward the Earth at 10 to 12 meters per second, rather than hover in the air.
It is possible that the object is some other kind of weather balloon -- but the Pentagon task force found it baffling enough to include in their report.
The 2018 report is said to have provided a general overview of the UAP topic and included details of previous military encounters, as well as a frank admission that the origin of many UAP could not be determined.
As well as offering a list of other, more prosaic explanations, the report expressly stated there was a legitimate possibility that UAP represented 'alien' or 'non-human' technology.
Even more shocking were the revelations contained in a second, revised report issued by the Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force earlier this year.
The report delved deeply into the possibility that UAP are able to freely move both through the air and underwater, zipping through the ocean undetected and emerging into the air at incredible speeds.
The report contained an 'extremely clear' photograph of an unidentifiable triangular aircraft that emerged from the ocean in front of a F/A-18 Hornet fighter pilot, sources told The Debrief.

That photo has not been leaked publicly, but artist and researcher Dave Beaty's recreation shows it as described by sources: a large equilateral triangle with rounded or 'blunted' edges and large, perfectly spherical white 'lights' in each corner.
The encounter occurred off the East Coast in 2019, according to officials who had seen the latest report.
Two officials said said the photo was taken after the triangular craft emerged from the ocean and shot straight upwards.
Officials say the latest report focused specifically on the possibility of 'transmedium' craft that are able to operate both underwater and in the air.
It is not the first time that military sightings have suggested the existence of transmedium UAP.
In 2017, former Navy Commander David Fravor spoke out about the infamous USS Nimitz 'Tic Tac' encounter that occurred over the Pacific in 2004.
Fravor says he was flying in an F/A-18F Super Hornet when he made visual contact with the object, which seemed to be just below the water, before it emerged and sped out of sight when he tried to approach it.
The object was smooth, white and oblong, and had no visible wings or engines, Fravor said. He told the New York Times the experience left him 'pretty weirded out.'

In August of this year, the Pentagon officially acknowledged the existence of the Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force, which authored the two newly revealed reports.
'The Department of Defense and the military departments take any incursions by unauthorized aircraft into our training ranges or designated airspace very seriously and examine each report,' the Pentagon said in a statement at the time.
However, an internal email obtained by The Debrief shows that almost one year before the DoD's announcement, the highest levels of the U.S. military were already being briefed on UAP.
The email, obtained through a FOIA request, shows an October 16th, 2019 exchange between former Vice Chief of Naval Operations, Admiral Robert Burke, and current Vice Chief of Staff for the Air Force, General Stephen 'Steve' Wilson.
Admiral Burke tells General Wilson: 'Recommend you take the brief I just received from our Director of Naval Intelligence VADM Matt Kohler, on Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP). SECNAV [Secretary of the Navy] will get the same brief tomorrow at 1000.'

The 'SECNAV' would have been then-Secretary of the Navy, Richard V. Spencer, who was fired about a month later over disputes about the court-martial of Navy SEAL Eddie Gallagher.
Last year, the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence received its own classified briefing on UAP -- and the committee has asked the Pentagon to release an unclassified report on such encounters. The request is not binding, however.
'People knew the Senate Intelligence committee had demanded a report from the Director of National Intelligence, and that an Unidentified Aerial Phenomenon task Force has been set up,' Nick Pope, the British UFO expert, explained to DailyMail.com.
'What we now have is an insight into what's going on behind the scenes, and what this task force has been doing,' he added.
'I was genuinely surprised to see some of this information in an open source publication and I think some people within the defense and intelligence community are sailing very close to the wind here in discussing matters that are highly classified,' said Pope. 'I wouldn't be surprised if there's a leak inquiry going on at the Pentagon over this.'
While the intelligence community is required to grant Congress access to classified information, only the executive branch has the authority to declassify national security information in order to make it public.
'President Trump has hinted he knows some great secret about UFOs, that he might declassify,' said Pope. 'This might turn out to be the ultimate monkey wrench for the new administration!'

Lord Louis Mountbatten’s official report about a bizarre encounter with a spacecraft on his estate has sparked British royal Prince Philip’s long-running obsession with UFOs and aliens.
The husband of Queen of England has reportedly spent decades building up a trove of books on space aliens. The fascination grew after Mountbatten wrote an official report about a strange experience one of his employees reportedly had with a silver spacecraft on his Broadlands estate’s ground in Romsey, Hampshire.
Mountbatten wrote about the 1955 incident involving Mr Briggs. He said that Mr Briggs was still dazed when he first saw him and worried that no one would believe his story. Mr Briggs reportedly told Mountbatten that he had never believed in stories about flying saucers and had been amazed at what he had seen.
Philip,99, is reportedly keeping a map of UFO sightings on a wall in Buckingham Palace. He also said to ask top-secret Ministry of Defence reports into UFO sightings and close encounters.
He reportedly spent last summer reading a book ‘The Halt Perspective,’ which looks into the Rendlesham Forest incident’s inside story.
The event saw a series of reported sightings of strange lights in December 1980. Two officers stationed from the nearby Woodbridge US Air Force base even claimed to have encountered a triangular UFO, displaying hieroglyphic symbols, which sped away after they touched it.
Retired US Air Force Col Charles Halt and retired West Midlands detective John Hanson penned the book.
Philip’s secretary Brigadier Archie Miller-Bakewell wrote a letter to the former detective, saying he is certain it will be read with serious interest over the summer.
Hanson voiced his approval of Philip’s curiosity. He told The Sun: “Why shouldn’t any sensible person have an interest in a phenomenon that has baffled mankind for millennia?”
After Philip received another book ‘Haunted Skies: The Encyclopedia of British UFOs,’ Miller-Bakewell stated that His Royal Highness will add the copy to his collection. It’ll make a most welcome addition to his library.

Chang’e 5, de onbemande Chinese verkenner die dinsdag op de maan landde, is eerder dan gepland klaar geraakt met het verzamelen van stenen en ander bodemmateriaal daar. Donderdagnamiddag is de sonde weer opgestegen van de maan en begonnen aan de terugreis naar de aarde, zo hebben Chinese staatsmedia gemeld.
Voor het eerst werd zo een Chinees ruimtetuig van op een ander hemellichaam gelanceerd. Dat gebeurde om 16.10 uur Belgische tijd, toen de motoren van de stijgmodule aanfloepten. Voordien werd nog een kleine Chinese vlag ontplooid, aldus de China’s Daily. Volgens de Chinezen vertrok het onbemande ruimtevoertuig zonder problemen van de maanoppervlakte.
De module zet nu koers naar het moederschip (“orbiter”) dat op een hoogte van zowat 200 km boven de natuurlijke satelliet van de aarde draait. Er volgt een koppeling, waarna de stalen naar de terugkeermodule verhuizen. Nog eens daarna ontkoppelen de opstijgmodule en het moederschip. De “orbiter” en zijn terugkeermodule zetten vervolgens koers naar onze planeet. In een baan rond de aarde scheiden ook de wegen van die twee modules.
De terugkeermodule moet dan “midden december” landen op de steppe van Binnen-Mongolië.
De Chang'e 5, vernoemd naar de godin van de maan in de Chinese mythes, werd vorige week gelanceerd. Dinsdag landde hij op Mons Rümker, een oude vulkanische formatie op het noordelijk halfrond van de maan. Die is ongeveer 1 miljard jaar geleden gevormd en is daarmee jonger dan veel plekken op de maan die tot nu toe verkend zijn.
De Chang'e 5 heeft enkele kilo's aan bodemmateriaal verzameld met een robotarm en een boor. Die stalen zijn in het laadruim opgeborgen. Wetenschappers willen de bodemmonsters onderzoeken om een beter beeld te krijgen van de samenstelling en de geschiedenis van de maan. Het is niet duidelijk of het materiaal alleen aan Chinese onderzoekers wordt verstrekt, of dat het ook wordt gedeeld met mensen uit andere landen.
De laatste keer dat maanstenen naar de aarde werden gebracht, was in 1976. Toen haalde de missie Luna 24 van de Sovjet-Unie ongeveer 170 gram stenen op. De twaalf Amerikanen die op de maan hebben rondgelopen, hebben ook allerlei maanrotsen meegenomen naar de aarde.

In de komende jaren wil China ook een eigen ruimtestation bouwen.

What is the mystery behind all of the “alien monoliths” that have been suddenly appearing and disappearing?
When a huge silver monolith was spotted in a very remote section of the desert in southeastern Utah, it immediately created a media sensation. But then it disappeared. A similar monolith had also been discovered in Romania, but now it is gone too. Then on Wednesday, everyone was buzzing about a third monolith that had been spotted in California. They are being called “alien monoliths”, but nobody knows who created them or if the three monoliths are even from the same source. But after being bombarded by the science fiction movies that Hollywood has been creating for decades, the world is definitely hungry for news that we are being contacted by someone from beyond.
The monolith saga started last month when a biologist spotted a large shiny object from the helicopter that he was flying in…
Officers from the Utah Department of Public Safety’s Aero Bureau were flying by helicopter last Wednesday, helping the Division of Wildlife Resources count bighorn sheep in southeastern Utah, when they spotted something that seemed right out of “2001: A Space Odyssey.”
“One of the biologists … spotted it, and we just happened to fly directly over the top of it,” pilot Bret Hutchings told CNN affiliate KSL. “He was like, ‘Whoa, whoa, whoa, turn around, turn around!’ And I was like, ‘What.’ And he’s like, ‘There’s this thing back there — we’ve got to go look at it!’”
The Utah monolith appears to have been riveted together, and that would seem to indicate that human technology was used to construct it. We are being told that it was definitely very sturdy, and helicopter pilot Bret Hutchings estimated that it was “between 10 and 12 feet high”…
And there it was — in the middle of the red rock was a shiny, silver metal monolith sticking out of the ground. Hutchings guessed it was “between 10 and 12 feet high.” It didn’t look like it was randomly dropped to the ground, he told KSL, but rather it looked like it had been planted.
Subsequently, Internet sleuths discovered exactly where the Utah monolith was located and they used Google Earth to determine that it had appeared some time between August 2015 and October 2016…
After that, a Reddit user was able to find the monolith on Google Earth. The coordinates of the strange monolith are 38.343080°, -109.666190° and plugging that into Google Earth shows you it’s just south of Dead Horse Point State Park, between the park and Needles Point, a tourist outlook. Others used Google Earth’s historical imaging data to narrow the appearance of the monolith in the area sometime between August of 2015 and October of 2016. As one of the internet sleuths pointed out, the three-sided monolith is miles from the closest paved road.
So it isn’t as if this monolith came out of nowhere. Apparently it had been there for as long as five years.
The world was stunned when the Utah monolith suddenly disappeared, and at first nobody knew what happened to it.
As mysteriously as it showed up, the strange monolith disappeared, and Sylvan Christensen and Andy Lewis now say they’re among those responsible, according to reports.
“We removed the Utah monolith because there are clear precedents for how we share and standardize the use of our public lands, natural wildlife, native plants, fresh water sources, and human impacts upon them,” Lewis and Christensen said in a statement sent to Grit Daily.
They even posted a video on YouTube that shows them removing the monolith.
Christensen and Lewis are just private citizens, and so it was rather presumptuous for them to grab what could have been a potentially important object.
I think that it is quite likely that they will be getting a visit from law enforcement authorities.
Shortly after the Utah monolith was discovered, another monolith popped up in Romania…
The mysterious metal structure in Romania was found a few metres from the well-known archaeological landmark the Petrodava Dacian Fortress.
It is a dark metallic colour and appears to be covered in concentric scribble-like rings.
The shiny triangular structure has a height of about four metres and one side faces Mount Ceahlau, known locally as the Holy Mountain.
This monolith appeared to be not constructed as well as the Utah monolith, and unlike the Utah monolith it suddenly appeared just recently.
But Reuters reported Tuesday that the shiny metal Romanian monolith has disappeared, quoting journalist Robert Iosub of the local newspaper Ziar Piatra Neamt.
“The 2.8 metre (9ft) tall structure disappeared overnight as quietly as it was erected last week,” Iosub said.
That could have been the end of the story, but now another monolith has been found in California…
Now, yet another monolith has been discovered, this time in California.
“There is currently a monolith at the top of Pine Mountain in Atascadero!” tweeted Connor Allen on Wednesday afternoon, with a trio of pictures capturing the strange new monolith at the top of Pine Mountain in Atascadero, California.
This new monolith appears to be fairly flimsy, and according to a local news report it was first spotted on Wednesday morning…
A few years ago, the “creepy clown” phenomenon took America by storm as hordes of copycats were inspired by a few initial news stories.
It looks like the same sort of thing may be happening again.
We live at a time when people are always looking for the next big social media stunt, and these monoliths have definitely gotten a lot of attention.
Meanwhile, our world is literally coming apart at the seams all around us, and things are only going to get worse in the years ahead.
When reality is unpleasant, many would rather focus on just about anything else, and these monoliths are definitely an interesting distraction. But all three of them appear to have been created by humans using very common technology, and so they aren’t signs that the “aliens” are about to arrive after all.
But without a doubt, our world has become a very strange place and it is getting stranger with each passing day.

The new California monolith was torn down overnight by a group of right-wing young men who livestreamed their vandalism in a grainy video posted on the blockchain streaming site DLive.
In the video, a group of three men are seen pushing the statue over and chanting "America First" and "Christ is King." The men, one of whom was wearing a "Make America Great Again" headband, called part of the monolith's construction "gay" then replaced it monolith with a wooden cross. It is a decidedly bleak turn in the ongoing monolith saga that has generally been a delightful distraction for a world wracked by a pandemic.
“Christ is king in this country. We don’t want illegal aliens from Mexico or outer space,” a man in the video says. “So let’s tear this bitch down.”
As the group of three struggle to topple the 200-pound statue, they can be heard chanting as they sway it back and forth. Eventually, the monolith’s base breaks and it falls to the ground.
The group then places a wooden cross near the site of the monolith. They go on to pose and take pictures with the two pieces of plywood, all stepping with one boot on the monolith as if it’s a hunting trophy. After the photo shoot, they tie ropes around the monolith and drag it down the mountain, calling it names and cheering.
"It was a learning experience. Nobody got arrested … It was fine because it was funny," a man says on the stream after the monolith was taken down.
In a video posted to a DLive account run by someone with the username CultureWarCrimnal, the group of men claims to have driven for over 5 hours to get to the statue’s site, streaming most of the time. The man who appears in the later video is wearing military fatigues and camo face paint. He’s vaping while saying things like, “I will fuck you to death if you don’t sing.” The group goes on to sing "Battle Hymn of the Republic" and other military-centric songs, all while greeting his viewers with vulgar, racist commentary. Two other members in the back of the car have combat helmets on with night-vision goggles attached.
Throughout the video they mentioning burning crosses and white power.
On the way down Pine Mountain, the group is seemingly pursued by an unidentified party. CultureWarCriminal and others run into the bushes to hide and turn off their camera’s lights. The person with the camera claims someone is setting canines after them—no barking is heard. Shortly after, voices can be heard getting closer to the group. A person yells, “grab the cross and beat them with it.”
CultureWarCriminal and his crew then have an impromptu roundtable discussion in the bushes, contemplating if those pursuing them are a part of the Antifa movement. “Antifa isn’t one to underestimate,” the group concludes. They then devise a plan, seemingly getting excited using military vernacular, to call the police and frame those after them as the monolith destroyers. In the end, the crusaders left empty handed, back to their macho selves, bragging about their escape on the car ride home.
Previous videos posted to CultureWarCriminal’s DLive account show the man talking on Omegle about “the pedophile rape tunnels under Hillary Clinton’s house,” claiming to be a member of the Marines, and commending spitting on Black people. His Twitter further perpetuates his racist narrative and indicates his affinity towards far-right podcast host Nick Fuentes.
Calls to the Atascadero Police Department by Motherboard were not immediately returned.
Chang'e 5 has collected the first fresh moon samples in deceades.
China has launched a small spacecraft from the surface of the moon in the critical next step in the ambitious Chang’e 5 mission to bring lunar samples to Earth.
The small probe, which sat on top of the Chang'e 5 lander, lifted off from Oceanus Procellarum at 10:10 EST Thursday (15:10 GMT/23:10 Beijing time) carrying with it the first fresh lunar samples since 1976.
Six minutes later, the ascent spacecraft achieved lunar orbit, marking a huge milestone in the Chang'e 5 mission to return lunar samples to Earth. The ascent vehicle's job now is to meet up with the Chang'e 5 orbiter while still circling the moon, and then transfer its precious cargo to a return capsule for the journey home.

That next stage is an extremely challenging rendezvousing and docking between the small ascent vehicle and the Chang'e 5 orbiter while orbiting the moon. The activity needs to be automated due to the time delay in communicating across the roughly 236,000 miles (380,000 kilometers) between the Earth and the moon.
The two spacecraft will begin a final approach sometime on Saturday (Nov. 5)and complete the docking 3.5 hours later. If all goes well, China will then prepare for the final leg of the journey to deliver the first lunar samples to Earth in 44 years.

The lunar samples won't be coming home immediately however. The Chang'e 5 spacecraft will need to wait in lunar orbit for a number of days for a narrow window in which to fire its engines and head for Earth.
The careful timing of this trans-Earth injection maneuver will allow the orbiter to deliver the reentry module to Earth at the precise time in order to land in Siziwang Banner, Inner Mongolia — the same site used by the China National Space Administration to return astronauts home aboard Shenzhou spacecraft.
The journey back to Earth will last 112 hours — just over four and a half days — before the reentry attempt. As spacecraft returning from the moon are traveling faster than those reentering from low Earth orbit, such as trips from the International Space Station, the Chang'e 5 reentry module will bounce off the atmosphere once to help it slow down before taking a final, fiery plunge to Earth.
The Chang'e 5 lander made its spectacular touchdown on Dec. 1 and almost immediately began taking images and collecting lunar samples with a drill and scoop. A special container for the lunar samples was filled and sampling completed within 19 hours of the landing and transferred to the ascent vehicle.
The ascent vehicle weighs just a few hundred kilograms and needed to accelerate to speeds of over 3,735 miles (6,011 kilometers) per hour per hour or just over 1 mile (1.67 kilometers) per second to achieve lunar orbit.
The Chang'e 5 orbiter, from which the lander and ascent vehicle separated in late November ahead of the lunar landing, is currently in lunar orbit awaiting the chance to rendezvous and dock with the ascender.
It will take around two days for the two spacecraft to synchronize their orbits enough to allow a rendezvous and docking attempt. The pair will have a small, 3.5-hour window in which to conduct the maneuver successfully.
If the spacecraft dock successfully the container with the samples will be transferred to the reentry capsule attached to the orbiter.
A mysterious object discovered in September is currently a new mini-moon for Earth. NASA confirmed on Tuesday, December 2, that the object is a lost-and-found 60s-era rocket from the Surveyor 2 moon mission, launched from Earth more than 50 years ago.

NASA confirmed on Tuesday, December 2, 2020, that the object known as 2020 SO – noticed in September and given an asteroid name – is a lost-and-now-found 60s-era rocket from the Surveyor 2 moon mission. The rocket blasted off from Earth more than 50 years ago. The confirmation came from data collected at NASA’s Infrared Telescope Facility on Maunakea, Hawaii, and from orbit analyses conducted at the the Center for Near-Earth Object Studies (CNEOS) at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California.
Scientists first spotted this object on September 17, 2020, as it was approaching Earth’s vicinity. Orbit models quickly showed that both the low speed and trajectory of the approaching object were unusual. The models also showed that Earth would capture this object – temporarily – as a new mini-moon. And, on November 8, Earth did capture this object. Now, following a three-month analysis of its motion – and a close approach of the object on December 1 – NASA confirmed on Tuesday that the object is a relic of the early Space Age, a Centaur upper-stage rocket booster, once called America’s workhorse in space.
This particular rocket launched the ill-fated Surveyor 2 spacecraft toward the moon in 1966.
The lost rocket is expected to remain a captive of Earth from October 2020 until March 2021.
It appears to have been pushed from its original trajectory by a small but continuous pressure from sunlight.
This isn’t the first time Earth has captured a mini-moon. But it’s an awesome story of a lost-and-found rocket, originally launched from Earth more than 50 years ago.
2020 SO came extremely close to Earth – about 30,000 miles (50,000 km or 0.13 of the average lunar distance) on December 1.

Astronomers first sighted the object in September using the 71-inch (1.8-meter) Pan-STARRS1 telescope at Haleakala, Hawaii. They gave it its designation – 2020 SO – and added it as an Apollo-type asteroid in the JPL Small-Body Database.
However, 2020 SO was quickly seen to have some features that set it apart from ordinary asteroids. According to NASA/JPL calculations, the object sped past Earth’s moon at a speed of 1,880 miles per hour (3,025 km/h) or 0.84 km per second (.5 mi/sec). That is an extremely slow speed for an asteroid.
These calculations also show the apparent “slow asteroid” orbiting the sun every 1.06 years (387 days). The low relative velocity, along with the Earth-like orbit, both suggest it as an artificial object launched from our planet.
Paul Chodas, manager of NASA’s Near Earth Object center at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, California, first suggested the object might be the rocket booster of Surveyor 2, a robotic spacecraft that was launched to the moon on September 20, 1966. Surveyor 2 was meant to be the second lunar lander in the uncrewed American Surveyor program to explore the moon. The spacecraft blasted into space atop an Atlas LV-3C Centaur-D rocket from Cape Kennedy, Florida.
A mid-course correction failure caused ground controllers to lose contact with the craft three days later, after a thruster failed to ignite. The failure caused the spacecraft to tumble and ultimately to crash near the moon’s Copernicus crater.

Speed ahead to our time and the strange object designed 2020 SO. Astronomers noticed that the object had an estimated size between 20 and 45 feet (6 to 14 meters), a match for the dimensions of an Atlas LV-3C Centaur-D (approximately 41 feet or 12 meters).
How could we have lost an entire 41-foot-long rocket? Space archaeologist Alice Gorman of Flinders University in Australia told ScienceAlert that – before our modern era of reuseable rockets – the rockets that launched craft into space were surprisingly easy to lose. She said:
There are so many factors in the space environment, like gravitational factors and other things that affect movement, that it can sometimes be quite unpredictable.
You have to keep tracking these things, or you can just sort of lose sight of them really easily. And if they do something a little bit unpredictable, and you look the wrong way, then you don’t know where it’s gone. It is quite astonishing, the number of things that have gone missing.
NASA explained that pressure from the sun’s radiation caused the object to change its trajectory:
The pressure exerted by sunlight is small but continuous, and it has a greater effect on a hollow object than a solid one. A spent rocket is essentially an empty tube and therefore is a low-density object with a large surface area. So it will be pushed around by solar radiation pressure more than a solid, high-density clump of rock, much like an empty soda can will be pushed by the wind more than a small stone.
This isn’t the first time Earth has captured a mini-moon.
As you might have realized by now, space is chock-full of small asteroids. Once in a while, one of these space rocks is captured, temporarily, by our planet’s gravity, before being cast out back into the solar system at large. Two confirmed mini-moons are 2006 RH120 (in Earth orbit between 2006 and 2007), and 2020 CD3 (in our orbit between 2018 and 2020).
It’s also not the first time we’ve mistaken space junk for an asteroid.
Another small object that was initially thought to be an asteroid was WT1190F, detected in October 2015 on approach to Earth. Its trajectory suggested it was about to penetrate Earth’s atmosphere near Sri Lanka, in the Indian Ocean, an event that happens with ordinary asteroids several times every year.
As WT1190F was disintegrating in our atmosphere on November 13, 2015, scientists analyzed its light via spectroscopy.
This analysis suggested the object might be a spacecraft component or part of a spent rocket, another wandering piece of space junk, returning home.
Now that same suggestion has been confirmed for 2020 SO. Welcome home, Centaur D!
2020 SO isn’t the first object thought to be an asteroid, and later realized to be human-made space junk. Here’s an object tagged as WT1190F entering Earth’s atmosphere south of Sri Lanka on November 13, 2015.

Where did the famous mystery Wow! signal, detected in 1977, come from? Astronomer Alberto Caballero might have pinpointed the host star. It’s a sunlike star 1,800 light-years away, in the direction of the center of our Milky Way.

In August 1977, astronomers detected an unusual radio signal coming from deep space that’s been the subject of debate ever since. Known as the Wow! signal, it was heard only once and never again. It still hasn’t been adequately explained. Enter amateur astronomer Alberto Caballero. He’s a founder of The Exoplanets Channelon YouTube and coordinator of the Habitable Exoplanet Hunting Project, which, earlier this year, announced GJ 3470 c, the first exoplanet candidate fully discovered by amateur astronomers. On November 8, 2020, the non-peer-reviewed, open-access repository of electronic preprints arXiv published a scientific paper by Caballero. In it, he said he has narrowed down the source of the Wow! signal. He might even have identified the specific star of origin. It’s a sunlike star – labeled 2MASS 19281982-2640123 – 1,800 light-years away, in the direction of the center of our Milky Way galaxy.
The finding is based updated data about our Milky Way galaxy from ESA’s Gaia space observatory, which is in the process of creating a cool new 3-D map of our galaxy. Using data from Gaia’s first and second data releases, Caballero searched for sunlike stars in the region of the sky from which the Wow! signal emanated. For this study, Caballero focused on sunlike stars, from mid-K to G-type (our sun is a G-type star). So far, the only intelligent life we know is here on Earth, so it’s logical to look for extraterrestrial intelligence around stars similar to our sun.
His search of Gaia data revealed 66 potential candidate stars, but one in particular stood out: 2MASS 19281982-2640123, a sunlike star located in the direction of the constellation Sagittarius, along our line of sight to the center of our Milky Way galaxy. As Caballero told Discover:
The only potential sunlike star in all the WOW! signal region appears to be 2MASS 19281982-2640123. This star sits in the constellation of Sagittarius at a distance of 1,800light-years. It is an identical twin to our sun, with the same temperature, radius, and luminosity.

Amateur astronomer Alberto Caballero of The Exoplanets Channel and the Habitable Exoplanet Hunting Project wrote the new paper on a sunlike star that might be the source of the Wow! signal.
Right now, according to Caballero, 2MASS 19281982-2640123 is the strongest candidate star for being the source of the Wow! signal. As for the other candidates, he said, astronomers need more data about their luminosities or sizes. It’s still possible that one of the other candidates could turn out to be a better fit, but as of now, 2MASS 19281982-2640123 is the one that’s of special interest.
From Caballero’s paper:
In this paper it is analyzed which of the thousands of stars in the WOW! signal region could have the highest chance of being the real source of the signal, providing that it came from a star system similar to ours. A total of 66 G and K-typestars are sampled, but only one of them is identified as a potential sunlike star considering the available information in the Gaia Archive. This candidate source, which is named 2MASS 19281982-2640123, therefore becomes an ideal target to conduct observations in the search for potentially habitable exoplanets. Another 14 potential sunlike stars (with estimated temperatures between 5,730 and 5,830 K) are also found in the region, but information about their luminosity and radius is unknown.
What is the Wow! signal?
The Wow! signal of the 1970s is still considered to be the most enigmatic cosmic radio signal yet. It hasn’t been easily explained by terrestrial satellites or other human activity. It was detected by the Big Ear Radio Observatory at Ohio State University in Delaware, Ohio, on August 15, 1977. It was an unusually strong signal, easily discerned from the background noise, and lasted 72 seconds.
The signal earned the nickname “Wow!” when Jerry Ehman, the astronomer who found it in the paper data printout, circled it and wrote “Wow!”
The Wow! signal is highly suggestive of extraterrestrial intelligent origin, but little more can be said until it returns for further study.
The detection was exciting, and, in many ways, still is. Astronomers had pondered what a true artificial signal from an extraterrestrial civilization might be expected to look like. The Wow! signal tentatively fit the bill. The problem was it was heard only once, and never heard again, like a cosmic one-hit wonder.
At the time, Kraus also looked in star catalogs for sunlike stars that might be the source of the signals, but didn’t find any. He said:
We checked star catalogs for any sunlike stars in the area and found none.
The Big Ear Radio Observatory at Ohio State University. It was listed in the 1995 Guinness Book of World Records under the category of Longest Extraterrestrial Search: “The longest-running full-scale SETI (search for extraterrestrial intelligence) project is the Ohio SETI Program at Ohio State University in Columbus, OH, which has searched the universe for extraterrestrial radio signals for 22 years, beginning in 1973.”
Generally speaking, star catalogs are more complete than they were in the 1970s. But Gaia’s catalog is in a class by itself, the most detailed star catalog ever produced, with 1.3 billion stars.
The European Space Agency (ESA) launched Gaia in 2013. The mission is to create the most detailed 3-D map of the Milky Way galaxy ever made, and is scheduled to continue until 2024.
Gaia gathers its data via what’s called astrometry. That is, it measures not just the positions of stars, but also their movements through space. Gaia’s job is to scan the sky repeatedly, observing each of its targeted billion stars an average of 70 times over the course of its mission. So, for example, we know our sun and all the stars in the Milky Way are moving continuously in great orderly masses around the center of our galaxy. We know that … but we didn’t have many details about how each star moves. How could we? The data for so many stars would be (are) massive; collecting the data, storing it and analyzing it requires today’s spacecraft and computer technologies.
Over its years in space, again and again and again, Gaia will acquire data points on the positions of Milky Way stars. Thus astronomers have already been able to produce an illustration like the very wonderful one below, which shows median velocities (the distances and directions traveled by each star per unit of time) of stars in our Milky Way:

Whether 2MASS 19281982-2640123 is the source of the Wow! signal remains to be seen, but it is a tantalizing new development in a cosmic mystery that has perplexed astronomers for over 40 years.
And, by the way, Caballero is also working on coordinating with several different radio observatories, on different continents, to search for new radio cosmic signals that might be indicative of extraterrestrial civilizations. He has three such searches lined up so far, with more expected. It will be very interesting to follow the progress of his endeavors.
Bottom line: An amateur astronomer may have found the long-sought origin of the famous mystery Wow! signal detected by a radio telescope in 1977.
Meteor triggers sonic boom and "astonishing" flash of light across multiple states and Ontario
A noontime boom that was heard and felt from southern Ontario to Virginia was likely caused by a disintegrating meteor, according to an organization in western New York that keeps track of such phenomena. Witnesses across the area reported hearing the boom or seeing a fireball in the sky shortly after noon on Wednesday, said Robert Lunsford of the American Meteor Society in Geneseo.
By early Thursday, the organization had recorded more than 150 reports of the fireball seen in seven states. The group said the fireball was mainly seen in New York and Ontario but it also received reports from Maryland, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia.
Lunsford told CBS affiliate WTVH that he estimated that the fireball could have been the size of a small car, moving at least 10 miles per second. When it disintegrated 22 miles above the surface in western New York, it produced a bright light. A camera on the CN Tower in Toronto captured a huge flash of light across the skyline.
Police agencies and fire departments around central New York received 911 calls reporting a boom that shook windows, but clouds prevented sightings in much of the area. Since most reports of the boom were around Syracuse, that's likely where the meteor blew to bits, Lunsford said.
As part of 2020’s latest act, a monolith suddenly appeared in the Utah desert on November 18, causing quite a stir — only to mysteriously disappear last weekend. Now, someone has come forward with an explanation.
Although a complete enigma to most, avid hikers can probably guess what happened to the 12-foot metal object that appeared in the desert: It was removed by a group of people looking to preserve and protect the Earth.
Photographer Ross Bernards took to social media on Monday to claim that he knows what happened to the monolith, because he witnessed the removal himself.
Bernards explained that while he was visiting the monolith after the crowds had left, a group of four men appeared at around 9 p.m., pushed the metal object over, broke it apart, and carried it away in a wheelbarrow.
“Leave no trace,” one of the men reportedly said to Bernards.
“If you’re asking why we didn’t stop them,” read the post. “Well, they were right to take it out.”
“Leave no trace” is a concept embraced by groups like the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics, which says it aims to protect the outdoors by teaching people to enjoy it responsibility.
The organization works to ensure people “leave no trace” while hiking. That mandate includes the removal of huge metal structures and other pieces of art that attract masses of people typically foreign to the area.
“We stayed the night and the next day hiked to a hilltop overlooking the area where we saw at least 70 different cars (and a plane) in and out,” the post continued. “Cars parking everywhere in the delicate desert landscape. Nobody following a path or each other. We could literally see people trying to approach it from every direction to try and reach it, permanently altering the untouched landscape.”
“Mother nature is an artist,” Bernards added. “It’s best to leave the art in the wild to her.”

The first monolith in the Utah desert has...as I have already predicted earlier...disappeared. No sooner has it vanished than another metal monolith with a top slightly diagonal appeared in Romania. The Romania version is clearly a fake...a reproduction. How do I know? Easy, I worked on B1 bombers and KC135 tankers planes back in the USAF. I often would have to sand down the paint on the metal to repaint it. This Romanian monolith has the rounded grinding marks of a person with poor skills at using a grinder or sander. Had they held it correctly, the sanding marks would not exist.
What happened to the original monolith?
1. I place an 80% chance it was stollen due to its fame and the gov saying it wants theirs...so it will soon be sold anonymously at Christies Auction house.
2. I place a 15% chance that MIB or gov workers dressed in black military outfits and black trucks came and removed to object for fear its an actual alien probe or ship. NASA space probes are hollow...this monolith is said to have sounded hollow. Taken to Area 51 to cut it open and try to find out what it is and if any of its technology could be useful to the US military.
3. I place a 5% chance on this actually being an alien ship or probe and that the object itself has moved its location, because the pilot who had walked away from it...may have looked human and was mingling and living in a city not too far away and thought this desert location was safe to leave the ship. Invasion? No...just a single craft is not an invasion. Pre invasion? Why? To take by force our iPhones, TVs, Computers? We have nothing other than our friendship and this planet to share with them.

This is one magnificent looking UFO! Its got some amazing detail to it and really wants to be seen. I have heard about such ultraviolet UFOs and beings near the Mount Shasta area, where an alien base of ancient and religious beings exist, but this...this is mind blowing. Makes me wonder, is this an alien craft, or an actual alien species that evolves so high that they no longer need a ship to travel the universe? This is very daring for the aliens and clearly they have a high interest in the native indians of the area. Its clear that the people in those huts would not have such technology that could easily compete and surpass that of the US military. This is 100% alien and absolute proof that aliens are interested in all people, all life everywhere.
Now I have more questions...did it Land earlier? If it landed, did the occupant walk out and talk to anyone? This would be one of the safest locations in the world to land and explore for an alien...since they are deep in the jungle.

Very strange one here. It almost looks like a giant bug in the sky. UFOs with arms have been seen before. As a matter of fact, Buzz Aldrin himself saw a UFO while in space and it was a long white body with an arm appendage of some sort sticking out. So although we have an idea of what UFOs should look like because of the movies and TV shows...in reality alien ships do not stick to that perceived movie notion, but instead come in all shapes and sizes. And then ones like this comes along and truly confounds me. I know of nothing that could possible look like than other than a giant insect, and I have heard of one insect species...a mantis species that is much taller than humans. So there must be others out there too. Reality is like an onion, each layer only exposes a new layer of mystery.
