Perseverance Rewarded: NASA Mars Rover Samples Suggest Volcanic Origin
The National Aeronautic Space Association (NASA) launched its ambitious Mars 2020 project in the July of 2020, with the mission aim that stated: “Seek signs of ancient life and collect samples of rock and regolith (broken rock and soil) for possible return to Earth.”
The rover it sent, titled “Perseverance,” along with its remote drone helicopter “Ingenuity,” landed finally on 18th February, 2021 on Mars’ famed Jezero Crater. And the rover has collected its first and second samples within the span of a week.

A Martian boulder dubbed “Rochette” is where the first pair of rock samples were taken from, reports Live Science . The collected samples were sealed shut in a designated titanium tube, as announced by the mission team members on Twitter.

Perseverance had made its first attempt to collect a sample on the 5th of August, but its targeted rock turned out to be rather soft, and crumbled under the weight of the percussive drill. Fortunately, Rochette proved to be a sturdier target, and two samples dubbed “Montdenier” and “Montagnac” were successfully collected from it.
"It looks like our first rocks reveal a potentially habitable sustained environment," said Ken Farley, project scientist for the mission, in a statement on Friday. "It's a big deal that the water was there for a long time." Being able to ascertain how long water lay on the lakebed could point to the presence of microbial life , provided the conditions were conducive and the water was there for a long enough time.
The core of Rochette showed that it was volcanic in origin, according to preliminary analysis. It is basaltic in composition, which indicates it might be a product of lava flows. The volcanic origin would help determine accurately the date of formation, taking us back to the days when Mars was volcanologically active. It would also help ascertain the date of the Jezero Crater, believed to have been formed around 3.5 billion years ago, reports Forbes.
Salt minerals too have been spotted within these rocks, as a result of flowing groundwater altering the original composition of the rock, or upon the evaporation of liquid, trapping tiny bubbles of ancient Martian water.
Why Choose Jezero Crater?
Jezero Crater was chosen as the landing site for Perseverance as scientists believe the area was once inundated with water, and home to an ancient river delta . It was chosen after careful examination of 60 other potential landing sites, involving deep data, research, and analysis. A combination of Mission Team members and scientists from around the world spent 5 years on just deciding the landing site.

The search for prolonged inundation of water and potentially emerging microbial life could confirm the hypothesis of a planet that has, in its long history, gone through periods with water and then without. There is prior evidence of clay minerals being carried by water from the surrounding areas into the lake, reports NASA. The crater also contains high concentrations of calcium, aluminum, and magnesium, telltale indicators of clay sediments and carbonates.
"These samples have high value for future laboratory analysis back on Earth. One day, we may be able to work out the sequence and timing of the environmental conditions that this rock’s minerals represent. This will help answer the big-picture science question of the history and stability of liquid water on Mars,” said Mitch Schulte of NASA Headquarters, the mission’s program scientist.
The crater itself is 45 kilometers (28 miles) wide, and scientists speculate that it was once a 250 meter (820 feet) deep lake. It is on the western edge of a flat plain called Isidis Planitia, lying north of the Martian equator. It is a massive 3,700 kilometers (2,300 miles) from the landing site of NASA’s Curiosity rover , which is designed to explore the Gale crater, and landed 9 years earlier, in 2012. Interestingly, the core design of Perseverance is borrowed from Curiosity, adding its own drill, scientific instruments, 19 cameras, and 2 microphones.

In 2031, Perseverance will attempt to return all collected samples back to Earth. The target is 31 samples minimum, in a plan titled Mars Sample Return (or MSR), with 3 missions spanning 10 years. "The idea of bringing a sample back from Mars goes back decades," Ken Farley had said in a statement earlier this year.
"We are in a position now where if everything goes according to plan, samples will be coming back to Earth in 2031. That sounds like a long time, but this becoming a reality has always been 10 years away since I was in grad school. Now we are actually doing it."

The Tunguska event is named for the area in Russia around the Tunguska River where on the morning of June 30, 1908, a high-speed space rock exploded and the air burst created the largest impact event on Earth in recorded history. Archeologists have recently found evidence of a similar air burst created by a similar space rock 3,600 years ago that completely destroyed an ancient Middle Eastern city, demolishing every building and incinerating all of its residents. If that asteroid’s destruction was named for the city it vaporized, it might have been called the Sodom Event. Was the biblical story of Sodom and Gomorrah really inspired by a space rock?

“Years ago, when archaeologists looked out over excavations of the ruined city, they could see a dark, roughly 5-foot-thick (1.5 m) jumbled layer of charcoal, ash, melted mudbricks and melted pottery. It was obvious that an intense firestorm had destroyed this city long ago. This dark band came to be called the destruction layer.”
Christopher R. Moore, Archaeologist and Special Projects Director at the Savannah River Archaeological Research Program and South Carolina Institute for Archaeology and Anthropology and co-author of a new study on this Tunguska-like event published in the journal Scientific Reports, explains in The Conversation what archeologists found while excavated at Tall el-Hammam, an archaeological site in the eastern part of the lower Jordan Valley that many believe was once the site of the biblical city of Sodom. That “destruction layer” has baffled archeologists for years until Moore and his team analyzed it with the Online Impact Calculator, which models known impact events and nuclear detonations and facilitates studies of ancient ones. The calculator indicated that Tall el-Hammam was destroyed by a small asteroid similar to the one that destroyed Tunguska in 1908, but much smaller that the rock that caused the dinosaur extinction 65 million ago. What they needed was physical proof.
“The destruction layer also contains tiny diamonoids that, as the name indicates, are as hard as diamonds. Each one is smaller than a flu virus. It appears that wood and plants in the area were instantly turned into this diamond-like material by the fireball’s high pressures and temperatures.”
Along with the diamonoids, the destruction layer contained shocked quartz that only form at 725,000 pounds per square inch of pressure (5 gigapascals), pottery and mudbricks that liquefied at temperatures above 2,700 F (1,500 C), spherules of vaporized iron and sand that melted at about 2,900 F (1,590 C), and tiny melted metallic grains, including iridium with a melting point of 4,435 F (2,466 C), platinum that melts at 3,215 F (1,768 C) and zirconium silicate at 2,800 F (1,540 C). Is that enough proof?
“Together, all this evidence shows that temperatures in the city rose higher than those of volcanoes, warfare and normal city fires. The only natural process left is a cosmic impact.”
An asteroid? Does that mean the sinners are off the hook?
That’s proof of a Tunguska-like event at Tall el-Hammam. However, is it proof of the existence of the destruction of Sodom? Moore thinks witnesses passed the story down orally until it was written in the Hebrew Bible as the devastation of an urban city near the Dead Sea where stones and fire fell from the sky, thick smoke rose from the fires and the city’s inhabitants were wiped out. Moore agrees that’s not definitive proof, but he sees it as a warning that these Tunguska-like events are common and happen frequently – even if the city isn’t wicked.
Moore and his teammates looked back at the fires of Tall el-Hammam and didn’t turn to stone. Lot’s wife must be p*ssed.
On June 4, 2021, the Buckley Air Force Base in Aurora, Colorado, was renamed Buckley Space Force Base, the home of Space Force’s Space Delta 4 unit. Shortly before that and continuing to the present, a man living close to the base has been photographing UFOs, particularly Tic Tac UFOs, and posting videos and photos on YouTube and Instagram. Are they related? Is anyone else seeing them?

The Daily Sun broke the story of Jason Suraci, a resident of Aurora, Colorado, who has been watching and recording UFOs day and night for at least six months and posting them with time, location and commentary on this like size, proximity to planes and other objects in the videos, and his own speculation on what the UFO might or might not be. In particular, he seems to be aware that many of the UFOs look like balloons – either weather or party – and points out characteristics that shoot these theories down like a deflated Mylar birthday present. He is also aware that these are occurring near Buckley Space Force Base, although not over it as was reported by The Daily Sun.

Are these UFOs aircraft from the Space Force at Buckley Space Force Base? Buckley Field was built in 1938 as a bombing range, was an Army Air Corps training school during World War II, became an inland Naval Air Reserve Station after the war, and became an early participant in space defense in 1969 when the United States Air Force began development on the Defense Support Program ground station there — the Defense Support Program operates the reconnaissance satellites of the Satellite Early Warning System. Buckley is also the home of the Colorado Air National Guard’s 140th Fighter Wing. In 1996, Air Force Space Command activated the 821st Space Group space warning mission and in December 2001, a new Defense Support Program and Space-Based Infrared System ground station was activated.

If the Buckley Space Force Base is the home of the Space Force Delta 4 Unit and has such a long history of manning space early warning systems, it would make sense that the base would be testing systems to identify, track and respond to UAPs like the Tic Tac UFOs which seem to have snuck up on the USS Nimitz and other naval vessels, outmaneuvered U.S. aircraft and allegedly baffled experts trying to determine if they’re made by humans on Earth (and if so, from what country) or aliens. If that’s the case, then Jason Suraci of Aurora, Colorado, may be witnessing the actual Tic Tacs (if they’re ours), captured Tic Tacs (if they’re from another country), reverse-engineered Tic Tacs (if they’re from aliens) or something else. What does he think?

While he’s obviously enthused about UFOs and posting the recordings of whatever it is he’s seeing, he also uses the opportunities to plug a line of night vision binoculars so others can help him out. Is he in any danger from the military for posting these videos? If he hasn’t been contacted yet, probably not. Why hasn’t anyone else reported them? Good question. What are these UFOs? If this were an isolated incident, the usual bugs-birds-balloons theories would apply. However, this seems to have been going on for months near a major Space Force and space security base. This is something that requires more investigation.
No wonder he’s looking for more people with night vision binoculars. Be careful out there, Jason.
My previous article was on one of the reasons why government agencies have failed to give all of us definitive UFO Disclosure. In that article I suggested – in a specifically theoretical fashion, I should stress – that the truth might be too terrifying for us to handle. It was a theory that more than a few people have bought into. Namely, the idea that our souls are being “farmed” by the black-eyed aliens of Ufology. Of course, it’s just a theory and shouldn’t be seen as anything else, at all. Unless, that is, hard evidence surfaces – something that hasn’t happened yet. There is another angle as to why we haven’t got UFO Disclosure. It’s a scenario that most people probably don’t think about. It’s the theory that government’s don’t give us the full story because, really, they actually haven’t got a clue as to what the full story is! So, as they are as much in the dark as we are, they do very little when it comes to government-public discussion. It’s not an implausible picture. For example, consider the following:
Let’s say that within the heart of the U.S. government there are a lot of photos, footage, testimony from pilots and so on, that, combined, are incredible, and all in relation to UFOs. Maybe, there are even the remains of several, dead alien creatures, all preserved and hidden in a vault in one of the deeper levels of Area 51. All guarded with deadly force, of course. So, you might wonder: what’s preventing disclosure? Why not just got ahead? Well, I can think of one reason. A very important thing. Let’s expand on what I said above, and say that the government does know there is a real UFO phenomenon from somewhere else; but that same government has no answers. Imagine that the government really did get its hands on a few dead aliens back in 1947. But, that after more than seventy years of trying to get the truth of Roswell, the government has not been able to go any further than autopsying one or two, and preserving the rest. The government has no idea – in the slightest – as to where the aliens are from. And the government doesn’t know what the agenda of the aliens is. And, even worse, what if not even a single bit of progress has been made when it comes to trying to understand the alien technology?

If that really is the truth of the matter – namely, that those in government on the UFO programs refuse to tell us the full truth because of what they don’t know, rather than what they do know – then everything comes together. I’ve never really understood why there is this widespread belief/assumption in Ufology that “the government knows it all, but won’t tell us.” Why should the government know? They’re not all-knowing gods. And why should they tell us when doing so would only reveal the government’s vulnerability mixed in with its ignorance of the subject. Imagine, theoretically, the day comes when the Roswell bodies are reeled out for the world to see (hopefully on CNN, rather than on the you-know-what scum-channel). In no time at all, journalists are shouting questions at the government, all demanding answers. And all the government can provide to us in response – and in front of the world – are one or two of those bodies, a bit of wreckage, some photos and…well, that’s it. Not a single, solid answer. No knowledge concerning where they came from. No knowledge concerning their plans.

So, rather than tell the public that the government doesn’t really know much at all about UFOs – apart from the fact that, yes, there’s something going on – the government says as little as possible. But, that same government does it in a fashion that makes it look like the various agencies are on top of things (hence the widespread media coverage of the last few years). In reality, however, I have a nagging feeling that, yes, the government has got a lot of data, but very little of it has ever helped the government to understand the truth of the presence, of the entities among us, and of their plans. Or, worse, of their plots.
I found an ancient alien face carved into the top side of the mountain. It shows the side profile of an almost human-like alien species. The face is built along the hill in a way that closely resembles the American Mount Rushmore and the carved US presidents on it. From the wear and tear of the surface, I think that this is over 100,000 years old! This face gives us some idea of what the aliens looked like on Mars long ago. They clearly were intelligent since they carved this face in the side of the mountain. Undeniable proof that intelligent life once roamed the surface of Mars.

The sun wasn’t quite up as I was driving north on HWY 95 in Ft. Mohave, AZ. It was just before 7:00 AM on 09/17/2021. I spotted a thing with LED-type lights just hanging still by the wires ahead of me and immediately thought it to be strange and futuristic. I noticed that the color was brown and it seemed to be about 2-3 ft tall and about 10-12 inches wide, and it had a light on its top and one on the very bottom. Both lights looked like LED flashlights. But they just seemed to glow a clear white. The thing was titled down slightly, almost as if it was watching something. There is a charter school right across the street. Anyway, I pulled over to the other side of the street, in front of the school and got my phone out and clicked the camera app and hit record. By that time, it started moving, so I was not able to record the lights. It’s possible the lights went out, but I don’t know. If I had to describe its shape, I would say it looked like one of those curved water bottles or a gourd. The thing turned to my left, rose, then turned a slight right and just casually went out toward the mountains. There was another girl in a black Suburban who had pulled over and was recording it out of her window. I said to her “What the hell is that thing?” She didn’t respond, that I could tell. When it looked like it was just going way and wouldn’t return, I stopped recording. As soon as I stopped, there was somebody in the turn lane, and I pointed out to the thing going away, and so he made the turn and stopped and I asked him if he sees it. He said, “Yes”. Then, I explained what it was and he seemed stunned and thanked me for showing him. The girl that was recording left without talking to me. Maybe she was freaked out. I don’t know. When I analyzed the video, I noticed that the thing changed shape throughout the recording. It had no propulsion system that I could see and it didn’t have any landing gear. I didn’t hear any sound coming from it all. But the noise of cars going by was pretty loud. My feeling is that it is a futuristic military drone and that the brown color is meant for camouflage. But, that fact that it was changing shapes, takes that to a whole different level.

Het gaat om hand- en voetafdrukken die tussen 169.000 en 226.000 jaar geleden mogelijk door de kinderen van Denisovamensen zijn achtergelaten.
Enkele jaren geleden troffen onderzoekers op het Tibetaans Hoogland iets opvallends aan. Op een rotsachtig voorgebergte vonden ze een serie van vijf hand- en voetafdrukken. Ineen nieuwe studie hebben onderzoekers zich over deze bijzondere schilderingen gebogen. “Wat betekenen ze?” Vraagt onderzoeker Thomas Urban zich hardop af. “En hoe interpreteren we deze afdrukken? Ze zijn duidelijk niet per ongeluk achtergelaten.”
Hand- en voetafdrukken Na een grondige analyse blijken de afdrukken te dateren uit het midden Pleistoceen en tussen de 169.000 en 226.000 jaar oud te zijn. Hiermee zijn ze drie tot vier keer ouder dan de beroemde, tienduizenden jaren oude grotschilderingen aangetroffen in Indonesië, Frankrijk en Spanje. De onderzoekers veronderstellen dat een kind van ongeveer zeven jaar oud de voetafdrukken op het Tibetaans Hoogland heeft achtergelaten. Een kind van twaalf zou weleens zijn of haar hand op het gesteente kunnen hebben vereeuwigd.

Maar misschien belangrijker dan de leeftijd, is de vraag wie de afdrukken heeft achtergelaten. Waren het Homo sapiens? Of een uitgestorven mensachtige? Een geloofwaardige theorie, ondersteund door recent ontdekte skeletresten op het Tibetaans Hoogland, stelt dat het mogelijk Denisovamensen waren; een mysterieuze groep oude verwanten van de Neanderthalers. Als dat klopt, zou het betekenen dat de gevonden hand- en voetafdrukken mogelijk door de kinderen van Denisovamensen zijn achtergelaten.
Meer over de Denisovamens
Het bestaan van de Homo denisova werd voor het eerst ontdekt in 2010, toen onderzoekers een fossiel vingerkootje ontdekten. Het overblijfsel werd gevonden in de Denisova-grot in Siberië. Na analyse bleek dat het vingerkootje aan een tot dan toe onbekende mensachtige toebehoorde, die verschilde van de Neanderthaler. Na verder onderzoek kwamen onderzoekers erachter dat de Denisovamens zich zo’n 400.000 jaar geleden van de Neanderthalers afsplitsten. Terwijl de Neanderthalers in Europa en West-Azië leefden, koloniseerden de Homo denisova Azië. Die theorie werd bevestigd toen onderzoekers DNA van Denisovamensen terugvonden op het Tibetaans Hoogland. Denisovamensen leefden mogelijk tienduizenden jaren op rij in een op het eerste gezicht vrij onherbergzame gebied.
Maar de ontdekking van de afdrukken doet nog een andere prangende vraag rijzen. Want: kan het onder de noemer kunst worden geschaard? “Er is geen utilitaire verklaring voor,” zegt Urban. “Dus wat zijn ze? Kunnen we het zien als artistiek gedrag, een creatief gedrag; iets duidelijk menselijks?” En dat is een interessante vraag. Aangezien de hand- en voetafdrukken zo lang geleden zijn achtergelaten, zouden de afdrukken mogelijk de oudste kunstwerken op aarde kunnen vertegenwoordigen.

Plek De plek waar de hand- en voetafdrukken zijn achtergelaten, licht een tipje van de sluier op. Zo zijn ze op een glibberig en hellend oppervlak gezet. “Je loopt hier niet zomaar tegenaan,” zegt Urban. “Daarnaast is de kans ook klein dat iemand op deze manier is gevallen.”

The United States Army was able to penetrate the defense of the base thanks to an advanced unknown weaponry carried by two Pentagon generals , together with the adviser to the United States Presidency.
Only the entrance to this underground base was about 60 meters from the electromagnetic safety wall.
According to the theorists, weapons with a very advanced technology for humans were found inside . Plasma beams and machinery capable of penetrating beyond the earth’s crust at high speed.
After passing through the gigantic tunnel, they entered a large gallery that, despite having disconnected the energy barrier, could be seen with great clarity.

A camera on the International Space Station (ISS) captured an incredible array of unidentified objects near their position .
It all happened during a recent live broadcast from the ISS. And it occurred while the station was moving in an undetermined place on our planet.
As the fixed camera recorded the advance, hundreds of lights in formation can be seen, in an apparent direction towards Earth.
Several waves of UFO formations appeared this 2020. In February we were able to publish one, and another in May.

And the images show that these groups of UFOs fly in large coordinated groups.
Some suggest that these UFO formations are reflections of city lights, but since the ISS circles Earth in about 93 minutes, we should see these kinds of lights every day. And it is not the case.
While there are many who believe that it could be a “fleet of extraterrestrial technology ships”, others indicate that it could be a flotilla of top secret United States ships.
More specifically the Space Force . The scope of this new “military force” would be to protect that country’s facilities in space, such as the satellites used for communication and surveillance.
Others offered further explanations.
They said it could be meteorites, and even Starlink satellites, sent by Elon Musk’s SpaceX , since since their launch in 2018 they have caused many people to mistake them for UFO sightings.

The blogger suggested that the shapes in the video he brought up supposedly were “alien technology shooting around the sun to collect an as-yet-unknown particle of energy expelled by the solar explosion”.
A trio of UFOs were spotted passing by the Sun last month, says Scott C. Waring, a blogger with a penchant for drawing attention to various incidents that may or may not have been caused by supposed extraterrestrial civilisations.
Pointing at a YouTube video that was apparently taken thanks to the ESA/NASA Helioviewer Project, and which apparently depicts a "solar explosion", Waring argued that three vaguely rectangular shapes that briefly appear on screen are UFOs.
"These are UFOs... alien technology shooting around the sun to collect an as yet unknown particle of energy expelled by the solar explosion," he claimed.
The blogger even went on to speculate that this scene is “absolute proof that our sun is being mined by alien technology 24/7 non-stop and could inadvertently cause a solar explosion so big...that it could wipe out life on Earth within a few minutes."
He did not, however, elaborate on how exactly he arrived at this conclusion.

Two bills in Congress could expand the UAP task force, or set up a permanent office to study sightings of these unknown objects.
CONGRESS MAY TAKE STEPS TO RAMP UP INVESTIGATIONS OF UFOS— UAPs, in the new terminology — following a Department of Defense reportto Congress over the summer recognizing the reality of these “Unidentified Aerial Phenomena,” but found no evidence of extraterrestrialinvolvement.
Sections of two proposed intelligence appropriation bills, H.R. 4350 (the Fiscal Year 2022 National Defense Authorization Act in the House of Representatives) and S.2610 (the FY 22 Intelligence Authorization Act in the Senate) take different approaches to expand the work of the Pentagon’s UAP Task Force.
Those hoping for a full-throated Congressional hunt for technologically advanced aliens of UFO lore may be disappointed, however. The bills appear driven more by entirely Earthly national security and safety concerns than little green men in hypersonic lozenge-shaped vessels.
In June, the UAP Task Force presented a report to Congress that covered 144 UAP sightings by military and other federal sources between 2004 and 2021. While the report found no evidence of aliens, it did note that “UAP clearly pose a safety of flight issue and may pose a challenge to U.S. national security,” and that “Some UAP many be technologies deployed by China, Russia, another nation, or non-governmental entity.”
WHAT WOULD THE BILLS DO?
If the bill becomes law,Section 345 of S.2610 would require the entire intelligence community to share any information about UAPs with the task force and the National Air and Space Intelligence Center immediately. It would then mandate classified reports about any UAP events to Congress beginning 90 days after the act's passage and quarterly from then on.
Section 1652 of H.R. 4350 — a provision added by Democratic Congressman Ruben Gallego of Arizona — would establish a permanent office to study UAPs within the Office of the Secretary of Defense.
If the provision remains unchanged when the bill becomes law, it will charge the new office with creating a database for recording UAP incidents and “evaluating links between unidentified aerial phenomena and adversarial foreign governments, other foreign governments, or non-state actors,” and whether the incidents pose a threat. The House bill provision would also require reports to various Congressional Committees.
Gallego’s office did not respond to Inverse’s requests for comment.

WHY IS CONGRESS INTERESTED IN UFOS?
After decades of official non-recognition of UAPs, 2017 saw leaked videos from naval aviators and a New York Times storythat brought the phenomena out of conspiracy theory and into the realm of sober national security interest. Pilots reporting seeing craft flying and maneuvering and seemingly impossible speeds near military aircraft was not a situation military brass could ignore.
In August 2020, the Pentagon created the UAP Task Force, and the Intelligence Authorization Act of 2020 mandated a report to Congress in 2021. The report, released in June, was only able to identify one of the 144 UAP sightings examined and determined it was a balloon.
The task force couldn’t explain the remaining 143 reports. And while the report concluded some of the sightings could have resulted from instrument failure or pilots making a mistake, more than half of the sightings were confirmed by multiple sensors to be real objects rather than phantoms.
WHAT’S NEXT
Both the House and Senate bills have been introduced, but have yet to be voted on by their respective chambers. The House bill has passed out of committee and been placed on the Congressional calendar. If the bills pass intact, their contents will need to be reconciled between the two houses before going on to President Joseph Biden.
We’ve read and heard plenty about the so-called Tic Tac UFO encounter in 2004 between pilots from the USS Nimitz and a pill-shaped unidentified aerial phenomena whose performance defied current technology and whose identity has not been confirmed, despite both media and Pentagon investigations. It’s a safe bet that most people believe there’s much, much more to this story. For example, although it was kept hidden from the American public for over a decade, a current member of Congress recently revealed when he learned about it … he was there when it happened!
“It was about 100 miles or so away from me, so I heard a lot of the communications going on.”
Meet Mike Garcia, a US congressional representative from California. Garcia was first elected to Congress in 2020, so he obviously wasn’t there when the USS Nimitz UFO incident occurred. Where was he? According to an interview in Roll Call, in 2004 Naval Officer Mike Garcia was an F/A-18 pilot from the USS Nimitz. Not only that, Garcia admits he was in the air at the time of the encounter, 100 miles away, and listened in on the conversations between those pilots and the ship.
“It was one of those things that you couldn’t believe it when you heard it. The guys who actually saw it weren’t allowed to talk about it until just recently, so we couldn’t even ask questions.”
Garcia, fresh from a six-month deployment as part of the 2003 Operation Iraqi Freedom, was an experienced F/A-18 pilot. A graduate of the US Naval Academy, he eventually accrued over 1,400 hours of operational flight time over the course of nearly 20 years of military service. In other words, he sounds like the perfect representative of Congress – both literally and figuratively – to head up the latest UAP commission, keep the public informed, keep Congress informed, etc. And yet, he seems to have slipped through the cracks like a wet Tic Tac. Roll Call tried to pin him down on the Nimitz incident.
“I’m intrigued by it. I don’t know that it’s extraterrestrial — I do believe it’s man-made. And I’m not going to presuppose where it comes from, but I hope it’s American-made. It goes to show that we’ve got to continue to invest in our military technologies and not take it for granted that we are the only superpower out there. We have peer threats out there nowadays, not just near-peer threats. China and Russia have advanced capabilities that we don’t even know about.”

Should we really believe that an experienced fighter pilot who was in the air during the Nimitz incident who is now a member of the US Congress has not used that position to find out what those Tic Tacs really are identified as in the secret files we all know exist somewhere in the X-files of the government and the Pentagon?
“I do think it would be an amazing coincidence if we were the only life forms in this universe. That’s why we’ve got to invest in space programs to start answering some of these questions we all have and maybe one day see the extension of God’s creations on other planets.”
It doesn’t take long after they’re elected for members of Congress to memorize the pat answers to tough questions. Representative Mike Garcia may be a good congressman, a good family man and a good guy – but he doesn’t appear to be a good inside man for UFO disclosure. Why has he waited until now to reveal his own experience in the incident? To paraphrase Democratic vice-presidential candidate Senator Lloyd Bentsen to Republican vice-presidential candidate Senator Dan Quayle in a debate in 1988:

On August 28, 2021, during an international air show in Thamesford, Ontario, Canada, a fast UFO flew past the Blue Angels and now on September 19, 2021, a similar incident occurred when the Red Arrows performed an air show in Chorley, England.
As with the UFO in Canada, this UFO in England also has no wings or visible propulsion.

De kanalen – wel tien keer breder dan de Theems – voerden ooit smeltwater af en kunnen meer inzicht geven in hoe het hedendaagse gletsjers zal vergaan.
We weten dat gletsjers op dit moment in razend tempo wegkwijnen. Maar wat er precies onder deze enorme bewegende ijsmassa’s gebeurt, laat zich alleen maar raden. Daar komt mogelijk nu verandering in. Wetenschappers hebben namelijk spectaculaire beelden gemaakt van het bijzondere landschap in de Noordzee. En dit landschap bestaat uit enorme kanalen die zich vormden onder de ijskappen die duizenden tot miljoenen jaren geleden een groot deel van Europa bedekten.
Nieuwe beelden Wetenschappers zijn al een tijdje op de hoogte van de enorme gletsjergeulen in de Noordzee. In een nieuwe studie besloten onderzoekers ze echter beter te bestuderen. Met behulp van 3D seismische reflectietechnologie – vergelijkbaar met MRI – brachten ze deze kanalen in ongekend detail in beeld.

Meer over 3D seismische reflectietechnologie
Bij 3D seismische reflectietechnologie wordt er gebruikt gemaakt van geluidsgolven om gedetailleerde, driedimensionale beelden te vervaardigen. De methode is met name handig om oude landschappen, die diep onder het aardoppervlak begraven liggen, te bestuderen. Op een vergelijkbare manier als MRI het menselijk lichaam in beeld brengt, kunnen wetenschappers met behulp van 3D seismische reflectietechnologie onbegaanbare landschappen visualiseren. Zelfs objecten en structuren die onder honderden meters sediment begraven liggen, kunnen op dergelijke beelden zichtbaar worden.
Uit de nieuwe beelden blijkt onder andere dat de kanalen zeker tien keer breder zijn dan de Engelse rivier de Theems. Deze enorme kanalen, die honderden meters onder de zeebodem in de Noordzee begraven liggen, zijn overblijfselen van enorme rivieren, zo stellen de onderzoekers. Deze rivieren ontstonden waarschijnlijk toen oude ijskappen smolten als gevolg van stijgende luchttemperaturen en voerden lang geleden het smeltwater af.

Oorsprong De beelden vertellen ons dus het verhaal van hoe de tot voor kort raadselachtige kanalen het levenslicht zagen. “De oorsprong was al meer dan een eeuw een onopgeloste zaak,” zegt onderzoeker James Kirkham. Maar delicate kenmerken laten nu zien hoe water door de kanalen (onder het ijs) bewoog en zelfs hoe het ijs wegsmolt. Bovendien tonen de beelden aan hoe het ijs en de kanalen elkaar wederzijds beïnvloedden.
Inzicht Dit inzicht is heel belangrijk willen we beter gaan begrijpen hoe het hedendaagse gletsjers zal vergaan. “Het is erg moeilijk om te observeren wat er tegenwoordig onder grote gletsjers gebeurt,” vertelt onderzoeker Kelly Hogan. “En dan met name hoe bewegend water en sediment de ijsstroom beïnvloeden. Wel weten we dat dit hele belangrijke factoren zijn voor de manier waarop het ijs zich gedraagt. Als gevolg hiervan is het uiterst relevant om de oude kanalen als voorbeeld te nemen zodat we beter kunnen begrijpen hoe hedendaags ijs zal reageren op veranderende omstandigheden in een opwarmend klimaat.”
Door in het verleden te duiken, krijgen we dus ook een steeds beter beeld van de toekomst. Want de oude kanalen geven belangrijke aanwijzingen over hoe hedendaagse ijskappen zullen reageren op klimaatverandering. “De ontdekking zal ons helpen de voortdurende terugtrekking van huidige gletsjers op Antarctica en Groenland beter te begrijpen,” concludeert Kirkham. “Zoals voetafdrukken in het zand, laten gletsjers een afdruk achter op het land waarop ze stromen. En onze nieuwe geavanceerde gegevens verschaffen nu belangrijk inzicht in de verdere aftakeling van gletsjers.”

Using high-resolution images fromNASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, planetary scientists have discovered 4-billion-year-old layered deposits containing minerals consistent with altered volcanic ash throughout a region of northern Mars called Arabia Terra. They estimate that the volcanic ash observed in this region is the result of between 1,000 and 2,000 individual explosive eruptions over 500 million years.

“Several large and deep craters in western Arabia Terra, Mars are thought to be explosive calderas, a type of volcano capable of producing supereruptions,” said Dr. Patrick Whelley of NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center and colleagues.
“If these craters are calderas, vast layers of volcanic ash should be common in Arabia Terra.”
“While layered deposits have been observed previously in Arabia, until now, no deposits have been associated with the suggested calderas.”
In the new research, Dr. Whelley and colleagues used images from MRO’s Compact Reconnaissance Imaging Spectrometer for Mars to identify the minerals in Arabia Terra.
Looking in the walls of canyons and craters from hundreds to thousands of km from the calderas, where the ash would have been carried by wind, they identified volcanic minerals turned to clay by water, including montmorillonite, imogolite, and allophane.
They then made three-dimensional topographic maps of the Arabia Terra region.

By laying the mineral data over the topographic maps of the canyons and craters analyzed, they could see in the mineral-rich deposits that the layers of ash were very well preserved — instead of getting jumbled by winds and water, the ash was layered in the same way it would have been when it was fresh.
“That’s when I realized this isn’t a fluke, this is a real signal,” said Dr. Jacob Richardson, also from NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center.
“We’re actually seeing what was predicted and that was the most exciting moment for me.”
Using data from an earlier study, the researchers calculated the number of eruptions needed to produce the thickness of ash they found.
“It turned out there were thousands of eruptions,” Dr. Whelley said.
One remaining question is how a planet can have only one type of volcano littering a region.
On Earth, volcanoes capable of supereruptions — the most recent erupted 76,000 years ago in Sumatra, Indonesia — are dispersed around the globe and exist in the same areas as other volcano types.
Mars, too, has many other types of volcanoes, including the biggest volcano in the solar system called Olympus Mons.
Olympus Mons is 100 times larger by volume than Earth’s largest volcano of Mauna Loa in Hawaii, and is known as a shield volcano, which drains lava down a gently sloping mountain.
Arabia Terra so far has the only evidence of explosive volcanoes on Mars.
It’s possible that supereruptive volcanoes were concentrated in regions on Earth but have been eroded physically and chemically or moved around the globe as continents shifted due to plate tectonics.
These types of explosive volcanoes also could exist in regions of Jupiter’s moon Io or could have been clustered on Venus.
Whatever the case may be, the authors hope Arabia Terra will teach scientists something new about geological processes that help shape planets and moons.
“People are going to read our paper and go, ‘How? How could Mars do that? How can such a tiny planet melt enough rock to power thousands of super eruptions in one location?’ I hope these questions bring about a lot of other research,” Dr. Richardson said.
A paper on the findings were published in the journal Geophysical Research Letters.

This is also the strategy adopted by our research team at the Galileo Project, a new initiative to image unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP) like those reported by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) to the U.S. Congress on June 25, 2021.
To my amusement, I recently came across an online retailerthat would allow us to “add to cart” a one-meter telescope for half a million dollars. Fortunately, cheaper telescopes are all that is needed for surveying the sky at the proper resolution to identify UAP.
Under typical weather conditions, Earth’s atmosphere is opaque to infrared light beyond a distance of about 10 kilometers or less. Resolving a feature the size of a cell phone on the surface of a UAP at that distance requires a telescope diameter on the order of 10 centimeters. Having a few such telescopes on a given site will allow us to monitor the motion of an object in three dimensions. These telescopes could be supplemented by a radar system that would distinguish a physical object in the sky from a weather pattern or a mirage.
If UAP are solid objects, they should heat up as they rub against air at high speed. The surfaces of objects that move in air faster than sound, such as supersonic airplanes or space rockets, are heated by hundreds of degrees. I calculated that the infrared glow of fast objects above a meter in size, supplemented by the heat from shockwaves in the air around them or an engine they carry, should be detectable with infrared sensors on telescopes out to the desired distance.
The data from a system of optical, infrared or radio telescopes will be fed to state-of-the-art video cameras linked to software that will filter out objects of interest for the telescope to track. If a bird flies above a common astronomical observatory, it will be ignored. The Galileo-Scopes will track it. Human-made drones or airplanes might be of great interest to some residents of Washington, D.C., but they are as uninteresting as birds for the Galileo Project.
My student Amir Siraj and I calculated that the number of UAP described in the ODNI report corresponds to about one object per hundred thousand square kilometers per year (with large uncertainties up to a factor of 100). This is well below the rate of unidentified objects from cell phone photographs or civilian eyewitness testimonies, implying that many of these unofficial sightings may have mundane explanations. Millions of cell phones with millimeter-size apertures are inferior to what Galileo proposes: a much smaller number of optimized telescope systems with apertures 100 times larger that are designed to rapidly track UAP.
The iceberg of classified reports‑of which only the tip has been exposed publicly‑may contain higher-quality images than those released to the public. Galileo’s goal is to capture new crisp images with better instruments than have ever been used by civilians. The full data set from the project will be open, whereas much of the data associated with the ODNI report is classified because it was obtained by government-owned sensors. Because the sky is not classified, Galileo-Scopes will operate just like common astronomical telescopes‑except that they will focus on nearby objects. We aim to change the intellectual landscape of UAP studies by bringing them into the mainstream of credible scientific inquiry.
In my book Extraterrestrial, published half a year ago, I argued that bringing the search for technological relics into the mainstream of astronomy would attract new funds and young talent to science. In recent weeks, this forecast became a reality. The Galileo Project has attracted millions of dollars from private donors and thousands of commitments from volunteers who offered to contribute their time and resources. Given the low incidence of UAP reported by ODNI, however, the project will need hundreds of telescopes to find UAP over a few years. That represents an order of magnitude more funding than we have collected so far.
With good enough data, extraterrestrial technologies can be distinguished from terrestrial technologies or natural objects. The Galileo Project will attempt to obtain this data from both UAP and unusual interstellar objects like `Oumuamua.
If prehistoric cave dwellers were to discover a cell phone, they would initially assume it to be a shiny rock of a type never seen before. But this might be the beginning of their learning experience. By pressing buttons on this weird rock, these early humans would record voices and images.
Similarly, the strange `Oumuamua has been interpreted as a new type of asteroid, such as a frozen chunk of pure hydrogen or nitrogen. But what if high-resolution images of such a weird object revealed buttons? It could encourage us to learn more by landing on the surface, just as the OSIRIS-REx craft recently landed on the asteroid Bennu. Here’s hoping that astronomers will be open-minded enough to check.
