MUFON's mission is the analytical and scientific investigation of the UFO- Phenomenon for the benefit of humanity... Je kan ook hun site bekijken onder www.mufon.com. Ze geven een maandelijks tijdschrift uit, namelijk The MUFON UFO-Journal. Since 02/01/2020 is Pieter ex-president (=voorzitter) of BUFON, but also ex-National Director MUFON / Flanders and the Netherlands. We work together with the French MUFON Reseau MUFON/EUROP.

BIG FOOT Sighted by Hiker Canada! 2014

    (Before It's News)

Hiker claims footage of Big Foot. ‘Sasquatch’ climbing up a sheer slope in the Canadian mountains A Canadian hiker has released a video of what he thinks could be Sasquatch in the mountains near Squamish, British Columbia. The video was shot by Myles Lamont two years ago while he was hiking in the Tantalus Range, north of Vancouver. Mr Lamont claims he only uploaded the video for the benefit of a couple of friends. ‘We had no intention for it to gather the interest it has. We are not claiming this to be anything other than a strange encounter.’ The video shows a small black dot of a figure reportedly moving up a mountain. ‘Pretty sure this is Sasquatch down there,’ said Mr Lamont on the video recording. ‘I can’t see it very well. It’s this little black dot walking in the middle of the snow in the middle of nowhere.’ Mr Lamont says he was able to view the subject far better than what the video portrays as it was just a simple point and shoot camera. ‘The contrast was excellent due to the snow behind the subject,’ he says.

    Waar bestaan onze gedachten?

    Waar bestaan onze gedachten?

Scott, these pictures were given to me by a friend. They were taken on Easter April 20, 2014 in Lancaster PA, USA. When he first took the picture he didn’t notice the anomaly, but when he was looking at them after the fact he then noticed the object in the upper right hand corner. Not sure what it is, but it is very interesting. These two were blown up to get a better look at it.

As I was driving on the bruckner highway, about 6:12pm, I caught glimpse of what I believe was a small airplane that was about to land on the LaGuardia Airport near by. As I kept on driving, the figure stood hovering on my far right on the other side of the highway, as if it was following me or anyone who was able to see it. Which was kinda hard to see with the naked eyes, I then pulled over to try to track the figure that even hovering in the air for about 4 minutes now, and as I took the first picture the figure disappear right after, by just a blink of an eye. As you can see in the second picture it seem to be a figure with a aurora sort shield surrounding it , looking like white lights. And it looks like it is a entity that has a green jacket and the blank shadow on the location of the upper part of the figure.

I recently received the following narrative from a longtime reader who has experienced a great deal of paranormal phenomena throughout their life. This reader had an encounter with the Point Pleasant Mothman not long before the Silver Bridge collapse on December 15, 1967. I had posted this specific encounter previously. Over the years, I have received many interesting Bigfoot encounter accounts…especially incidents that occurred throughout the state of Ohio:

Lon…Just saw you on TV for the Sykesville Monster and would like to ask you some questions if that’s okay.  I want you to think back and see if you recall any signs in the larger areas of these sightings that told you research of any kind was going on there.  Here in Ohio we had a research institute on a sign in a heavily forested area.  The name of this particular place was (*********) Center and the lab’s name was in small letters at the bottom of the sign.  Locals asked questions about what was going on up there but got nowhere.  When the questions got to be too great for them we saw that they’d brought in a big well-known university and changed the sign to reflect this.  We all assumed this was to help them look more benign however it did not.  Both were well known for doing huge government contracts that dealt with fringe science.  The public wasn’t supposed to know what they were doing, but since their employees talked about things they saw that bothered them, they told others.

Our family had an inside track on what was going on around us because people were calling Dad to have him find out what was going on, and who was doing it.  Then, people could make a deal with him to talk care of the problem if you get my drift.  Memories of that period of time have recently been resurfacing so they’re fresh in my mind as I’m typing this email to you.  The things you want to pay close attention to in all the reports don’t seem to have anything to do with what you saw but I assure you they do.  I know this because it happened to me and I know of other places in our area where teenage girls’ bedroom windows were being tampered with.  Of course the teenage boys, men, and sheriff’s deputies all thought this had to be some pervert doing this.  Their fathers all got a good look at what had to be a very big man with long hair all over his body.  They saw his face and he looked human you see.  He was very tall, very broad, and going around barefoot unless he was in some kind of suit.  In more than one place these fathers said they saw his privates and that this wasn’t a costume!  Dad laughed at what they said and told them that some men would stoop to doing anything.  The one father got really loud saying he knew what he saw and it was definitely a man the size he had never seen before in his life and the hair on him was coming out of his own skin.  This one particular house evidently had a teenage girl in it that this hairy man really had the hots for.  Each time he came by he left the stack of stones on the road in front of the house.  The girl’s dad came out with a gun one night and started shooting.  He said this big hairy guy went right up this sheer hillside with loose rock all over it.  No human could’ve gotten up that hillside and the man marveled at how fast this big hairy guy got up it with ease.

Boys from the high school liked this girl, a pretty blonde with a great figure, so my brothers said, and so they took their guns and staked the place out at night.  They complained at school that he never showed up.  One night after that most of them decided to give up this venture as they heard the yells and it threw rocks from the top of the hill down at them on the road.  I saw it the next day and some of these rocks were pretty good sized.

Sometime later I heard boys in the high school talking excitedly about guns and going to this fire tower.  I asked our oldest brother what fire tower they were all going to and he told me there was one near our nearest small town.  They took sleeping bags and food with them.  My brother came back kind of early.  Seemed that someone crashed their stakeout and not hearing any vehicles come near the place they suspected boys who lived nearby.  One of the boys said if it happened again he’d shoot at whoever was doing it.  Some of them went back up there and whatever was there the night before came back only this time it was shaking the fire tower!  Then it started yelling that told them this wasn’t human.  It was throwing big rocks at them too.  My brother took me up there the next day and said to keep an eye out for a big hairy man and if I saw one I was to tell him immediately and he’d hit the gas!  One leg of that tower was bent and this was heavy metal!  I could see these good sized rocks laying around the tower.

When you go back through the eyewitness reports of where your sighting and the others were, look for reports of missing chickens and pigs as well.  Farmers were too ashamed to tell the Sheriff’s deputies that they’d seen an enormous hairy man taking their pigs and chickens.  Some did tell the officers and were laughed at.  Pretty soon the Sheriff’s office began wondering what was wrong with people down in the hills.  Then, they began talking to neighboring communities.  The reports about the stolen pigs and chickens were making the evening news on the TV.  One day it got big news coverage when huge hairy men were seen in a pig pen over at a small town some distance away.  The pens over there held around 300 head.  I believe the news people called this rustling and some prankster in a furry costume.  The next news update to this was that multiple men in costumes had been seen in the pens in broad daylight and the witnesses swore that they could see the private parts and that they were definitely not wearing costumes!  Dad was called over there as well so we got to hear some of what the witnesses had seen, including the farmer.

No one said Bigfoot or anything, just a giant naked hairy man.  The farmer at Amanda had suspicion cast on him when tire marks were not found to suggest how the pigs had been taken.  I think his insurance carrier must have investigated.  Farmers with a small number of pigs usually didn’t insure them but the big farmers did.  Every place where there had been trouble with this, the forest was clear cut for some distance.  In the end the small farms with pigs and chickens sold their animals and some even sold their farms.  There was a beagle breeder up the road who’s pen of 27 dogs was being torn down so the dogs were let out.  A neighbor just down the road had sheep and one day around the same time, his entire flock were killed.  They all lay in the same area, their throats were ripped out and there were fang marks in their throats.  None were eaten.  There were no dogs running loose at the time.  We heard the commotion from our house and saw something huge and dark up there.  I swore I saw sheep being flung in the air.  When we went up to see them it was after we saw the farmer go up there.  The legs of some of these sheep were broken!

Within a couple of weeks after that, there were coon hunters up in the forest across the field from our house.  It was summertime and Dad said they were practicing.  We saw that they had a bunch of dogs with them and there were many men that went up there with an awful lot of guns.  We had a front row seat to this.  They all went in long before the sun set and were up there making a bunch of noise.  Then, it got dark, we heard yelling from time to time of men saying, “There he is!”  Then there were a bunch of shots and we were thinking that was way too many shots for them to be shooting at one coon.  It ruins the pelt not to mention that buyers don’t buy summer pelts anyway!  It was quiet for awhile and then there was a long very loud roar and dogs began coming out of those woods like they were running for their lives.  Then, the hunters came running out of the woods.  Some got in the vehicles and tore out of there.  Others all stood in a group by the creek and their vehicles with their guns all pointing in the same direction.  We heard some yelling but then they all got in their vehicles and left.

You’ll need to find any hunting clubs that were operating in the sightings areas at that time to see what they’ve seen.  I know in our area if all the dogs were riled up at night we neighbors talked about it later.  If one dog in the valley started barking they all started.   We could tell by their barks where the animal or person was headed and how fast.  Our dogs were beginning to whine loudly and hide in their boxes.  They’d never done that before.  Others mentioned their dogs doing the same thing.  Bigfoot don’t like dogs.  After all this stuff happened and was going on for some time, we saw a pack of feral dogs run through the valley.  The next week people down in the block were telling us they’d seen a pack of feral dogs.  When we asked how many there’d been and what breeds we knew this wasn’t the same pack that we’d seen.  They didn’t seem to stick around long much to everyone’s relief.  The dogs were all very clean looking for having been running loose.  Dad laughed and said maybe this would work for them.  He wouldn’t explain what he meant though.

My brother was with some other teen boys that went in the research place to get photos of primates the place told the news were not in there.  My brother said he and the other two boys who saw them also saw what looked like a big hairy man in one of the cages.  He said they tore out of there because it saw them and began tearing at it’s cage so bad they feared it would get out and come get them.  The news people were shown the photos and they were at the front gate with a mobile news crew and a big crowd of protestors.  There were armed guards on that gate too.  Battelle and the university made a statement to reporters later on saying they’d been doing primate research but there was nothing to be afraid of.  People didn’t give up on it though and I saw where they’d been throwing garbage into the place.  A new statement was made sometime later saying all the projects were being shut down.  A few weeks later they were confronted again and said all that was going on was biological testing for agricultural purposes I believe they said.  In time the people living nearby and other interested people, shut them down for good.  The place was just found wide open with no one around.  Now, part of it is a park and the rest is barred from the public and guarded.  Hmmmm wonder what’s going on down there now?  I don’t have to wonder as I was down there around 2011 below the park about 1/3rd of the way down to the lake when I heard people yelling then screaming as big rocks were being lobbed at them from further up the hillside.  I heard grunts that reminded me of a gorilla and decided it was time to turn and go back the way I’d come.  Then I caught this awful smell so bad I tasted it.  I started praying and continued until I got in the car and told my husband to get us out of there.

There were so many other incidents going on down in the hills for miles and miles that everyone pretty much stayed indoors or in large groups for some time.  I believe it happened around 1972-73. (Please don’t post this with my name attached)  When this was going on, it was neighbor against neighbor who suspected their teenage boys and/or adults of doing these things.  The authorities were talking with anyone with a record of doing such things.  They had some suspects but those who’d seen what caused these things knew it wasn’t exactly human.  The police and others who hadn’t seen them (more than one) didn’t believe those who did so there was a lot of animosity and slandering going on and I imagine some people getting even.  So it really tore up these small communities and those who lived out in the countryside.  My last experience with one where I grew up, was just as the blizzard was beginning in late January of 1978.  I heard the longest, deepest yell that sounded like some man was up the valley getting tortured or murdered.  Dad came out to hear it and said that was my friend that used to visit me when I was young.  I asked if he thought that was funny and he said no that it was true.  I remembered those visits from a huge live teddy bear in the 1960s which went on for weeks if not years.  That’s what I called him at the time.  I estimate he had to be around 14 ft. tall.  My parents always said they’d find me outside in the middle of the night and didn’t know how I got out there.  Then they said they did know but no one would ever believe it.  Then, they’d clam up and refuse to tell me anymore.  If anyone slipped around relatives and said I’d been sleepwalking outside without unlocking doors or windows, mom would always say the door had to have locked behind me.  My parents knew what was taking me and they were scared to death of it.  When I was in puberty it and about five others like it came to our house.  The biggest one was out in the field and dad was shooting at it from our front yard as it had come clear up to our house!  When I saw it I asked my brothers, “What in the hell is that?!”  One of them said it must be like King Kong or something.  We all laughed nervously for a very short time.  Our poor neighbors next door had a front row seat to the five in the deep drainage ditch between two fields across the road.  I and my brothers were a cohesive bunch that protected each other unlike the neighbors who weren’t very oriented to that kind of thing.  These things finally left but I know we didn’t go out of sight of our house for a very long time.  Dad said he felt the biggest one had come to take me away with them.  I believe he was right.  The thought horrified me as to why they wanted to take me.  I had my suspicions.

I want people to know these things so that they can better protect themselves.  The response of local sheriff’s was that they knew what was going on in our area but only after talking to a lot of experiencers down there and then they flat out refused to go look to see if a man had indeed been murdered up there.  They complained to me that they’d have to leave their vehicle and it wasn’t safe and I asked if they’d been smoking something or if they were just chicken.  The one said they knew what had been going on down there, they’d heard the stories of the monster.  I just thought they were being smart with me so I told them to get up there and look or I’d call the sheriff and tell him what they said.  I called them back later to see if they’d been down there.  They said they had and hadn’t seen anything from their car!  I did all I could and told them they should be ashamed that they didn’t do all they could’ve for someone who was probably dead by now.  They described the area which told me they’d been down there so I thanked them for doing that much.

Their job isn’t easy and they have to prevent public hysteria as well as their own.  Everyone can be forgiven when they are ignorant of the facts and have not experienced these things that aren’t supposed to exist.  Our country is backward in that we have too many knee jerk reactions to these things and others.  Witnesses serve a crucial role in all other areas so why not this?  Why are so many so scared to admit these things are real? P.

MAMNY WITNESS ALIEN CRAFT NEAR POWER PLANT IN PENNSYLVANIA

    (Before It's News)

    APRIL 15, 1973         MANOR PENNSYLVANIA

More than a dozen witnesses reported observations of UFOs in the localized area of Penn and Manor, Pennsylvania, near the larger town of Jeanette. Among these was the report of a single witness who was driving near the Manor Power plant when he observed a large glowing object above nearby railroad tracks, just above the trees. Light from the object illuminated the immediate area, and the witness pulled over to the side of the road and got out for a better look.  The object, no more than a hundred yards from the witness, was about 400 yards to the west of the power plant and approximately 10 feet above the treetops. The illumination was of an intense white, and the object itself completely illuminated but apparently solid in construction and about “3 car lengths” wide. It had a dome like structure on top the same bright color as the rest of the object. Around the main section were 2 or 3 rows of lights, or square windows, of a somewhat multi-color-one whitish, another red and the third a blue or green hue. More interesting than the object was “something” that appeared outside it, similar to the Apollo astronauts that were photographed “walking in space.” From the left side of the UFO a line extended some 30 yards at the end of which floated a form of some 8 or ten feet tall, of a purple or orange color. The witness did not say it was specifically human form, but it did appear to be similar to a human torso. He did not see the attendant object retracted into the UFO; rather it disappeared like “a string of lights.” He had left his lights on and engine running when he got out; 3-4 minutes, the headlights dimmed as low as a weak flashlight.  When the object departed, the lights came back on as bright as before. The object made a high-pitched sound “like a spinning top” when it departed. “You could hear the trees blowing” as it went over them.

1985 CE-3 UFO INCIDENT AT ITUZAINGO: TYPICAL ELEMENTS – PART II

    (Before It's News)

If you missed Part I of this article click here!

Elements of the hero’s journey present in the story. In this paper we shall follow the study made by Joseph Campbell on the mythological “hero’s journey” made by the “hero”, understood as the “magnification of the formula represented in rituals of initiations: separation-initiation-return, that could receive the name of the nuclear unit of the mono-myth” (Campbell, 1992: 35) seeking to establish the typical elements of the full cycle (Campbell, 1992:225) that may be present in the Ituzaingó case (1985). To do this, we shall point out the stages and subdivisions of the hero’s mythical journey (Campbell, 1992: 223-224) and we shall then break down the parts that correspond to it, in our understanding.

    I. Separation:

    1) The call to adventure: “The mythological hero abandons his hut or castle, is attracted, carried away or voluntarily marches toward the gateway of adventure (Campbell, 1992:223). The couple drives by car from Posadas to Corrientes at “cruising speed” when “they see lights” which prompt the driver to “slow down and when (…) a light became brighter (…) stopped, despite his wife urging him to keep driving.”

    II. Initiation:

    2) Threshold of adventure. “There he finds the presence of a shadow guarding the road. The hero can defeat or conciliate that force and enter the kingdom of darkness alive (battle with a kinsman, battle with the dragon, offer, enchantment) or can be slain by the opponent and descend into death (dismemberment, crucifixion) (Campbell, 1992:223).

    Ituzaingó Case:

    a) shadow guarding the road: “a man approached them”;

    b) conciliation with force: The humanoid “asked our interviewee to give him something to take back to MAIT, and the man took (…) and gave them to the “extraterrestrial” (…) indicating the purpose for each thing being given.”

    3) Beyond the threshold: Beyond the threshold, the hero makes way through a world of unfamiliar forces, yet oddly intimate ones, some of which threaten him with danger (tests) while others provide him magical assistants (helpers).” (Campbell, 1992:223).

    Ituzaingó Case:

    a) unfamiliar forces: “We are not from Earth”;

    b) intimacy: “The couple saw a man with perfect human features”, “spoke fluid Castilian more closely resembling the Argentinean dialect;

    c) tests: “The driver of the car asked him to let them go, the extraterrestrial asked him not to go, bidding him to listen to what he had to say.” ;

    d) danger: “the wife wept and cuddled up to her husband”; “never thought one could feel so much fear and astonishment”.
    4) End of the adventure: “Upon reaching the end of the mythological journey, he undergoes a supreme test and receives his reward. Triumph may represented by the sexual union of the hero with the mother goddess of the world (sacred marriage), knowledge of the father-creator (harmony with the father), his own divinization (apotheosis) or also, if the forces have remained hostile, the loss of the gift he has come to win (loss of his bride, loss of fire). Intrinsically, it is the expansion of awareness and therefore, that of the being (illumination, transfiguration, liberty).” (Campbell, 1992: 223-224”.

    Ituzaingó Case:

    a) supreme test: Do not be frightened! Feel no fear! We are not from Earth…!”; “he asked him (…) to hear him out;

    b) Expansion of awareness and being: “while I must acknowledge that I felt fear, it will be among the loveliest and most fascinating memories I’ve had, and I hope it happens to me again, because then I will get out of the car, exchange opinions and ask questions, which I didn’t do now – ask questions, due to the powerful shock I felt.”

    III. Return:

    1) Start of the return: “The final task is the return. If the forces have blessed the hero, now he moves under their protection (emissary); if not he flees and is chased (flight with transformation, flight with obstacles)” (Campbell, 1992:224). Ituzaingó Case: “Tell everyone not to be afraid…”; “asking us to tell everyone that they were good”; “asked me to tell everyone we know not to be afraid, and that they are good beings”.
    2) Return threshold: “In the return threshold, the transcendental forces must remain behind. The hero begins his return from the kingdom of sorrows (return, resurrection).” (Campbell, 1992: 3). Ituzaingó Case: Transcendental forces remain behind. “The alien (…) headed back to the “UFO” where other beings awaited (…) and the light took off swiftly, vanishing into the horizon.”
    4) Return: “Goodness brought to restore the world (elixir)” (Campbell, 1992: 224). Ituzaingó Case: I am doing this, because if all this contributes to clarifying the alien mystery, we will have made a contribution to the Humanity to which we all form part (…) but I am personally sure that I spoke with a being from another world, an kindly being, sweet at times, concerned about us, who was perhaps only accomplishing a mission of contacting the Earth and Humankind.”

    Conclusion:

The presence of elements typical of the hero’s journey emerges from an analysis of the Ituzaingó Case (1985), making it possible to state that it follows the model of the nuclear unit of the monomyth: “a separation from the world, penetration to some source of power, and a return to life to live it with more purpose.” (Campbell, 1992: 39-40).

    Experiences With the Dead

I wanted to share a few experiences I’ve had with you all. I doubt I’ll have time or space to tell you all of them, as my early life was pretty full but I’ll share a few of my favourites with you.

The first story comes from my Mum, I was only four and so have no memory of this day. I was a very odd kid. My mum says I was one of those children who didn’t really talk, I’d prefer my own company and that of books to other people. I was odd, but not creepy. I was pretty easy to take places, I was a really tiny kid and I was so quiet you’d barely notice I was there, so, when her grandfather died, she bundled me into the car seat and we all went to see Flora, my Mum’s grandma.

I quickly vanished, as I was apt to do, and my mum thought nothing of it. She was too busy comforting her family and thinking through funeral arrangements to worry much about me. When a half hour had passed and I hadn’t reappeared she began to worry and excused herself to go and find me. She looked all around the lower floor, under tables and inside cupboards (I liked to hide) but to no avail. She stood at the bottom of the stairs and called up to me to come down. She even tried to tempt me with the promise of a second cake. Nothing.

Eventually she started up the stairs and as she did I skipped down the hallway, looking pretty pleased with myself.

“Where were you?” she asked, whisking me up.

“I was with the man mummy. In the bedroom.”

“What man sweet?” she asked, scared someone might have gotten into the house.

I pointed to a picture of my deceased greatgrandfather on the wall. “That man mummy. He’s awfully nice.”

As you can imagine, this freaked my mum out pretty well. She told my dad about it and they decided to ignore it, thinking that I was just a kid with an active imagination. But it didn’t stop.

I would be in the back of the car and suddenly start laughing or talking to people who just weren’t there. One time I shouted out for them to stop the car. My dad did, thinking I was going to throw up or something. I pointed to a farm on the distance. “I lived there with the pigs Daddy. In the before. All the little boys are dead now.”

This was the final straw, they took me to a psychotherapist who told them I was normal. There were no abnormalities in my blood, scans or my tests and they should hope to see this ‘active imagination’ quell in a few years time.

It still didn’t stop. By now, aged seven, I have recollections of what happened for myself and don’t need to rely on my parent’s testimony.

The dead people I saw were my friends. They were so essential and normal to me that I used to get into trouble when I forgot which people were real and which weren’t. At the time I was talking with a girl who told me she was ‘stuck.’ She used to get really cross and I remember being a bit afraid of her. She’d sit with me and we’d draw together in the evenings. When I look back now it’s terrifying. I had pages of drawings of coffins, death and blood. Again, for me then, it was normal.

She was starting to get more and more annoyed that I couldn’t help her. I knew that normally all I had to do was concentrate really hard and I’d help them to ‘pull open a crack’ but it wasn’t working with her. She started to play up at school, mostly breaking glass and turning on taps. It got to the point where each time I’d go to use the bathroom the minute the doors shut all the taps would turn on, flooding the floor in seconds. I made a teacher stand outside of the door while I went so I knew no one else was turning them on.

No one believed it wasn’t me doing it but I know it wasn’t.

The next day at school some of the kids were making fun of me, saying I was a freak. I was so mad I went into the bathroom and locked myself in a stall. I yelled at her, telling her she had to stop. That she was making people hate me.

The mains water pipe exploded beneath the bathroom. The school was closed that whole week.

These stories aren’t extraordinary for me. I saw people, spoke with people who other people just couldn’t see up until I was fifteen. Sometimes it was tough. Sometimes there would be so many of them around me I just wouldn’t know how to cope. It was like they were moths and I was a flame. Every corner, every empty chair, every night on the end of my bed.

My therapists since have said that ‘at least they’re gone’ but I’m not sure. I like to think that it’s my mind, playing some odd little trick. But if not, I’m pretty sure they’re not gone. I think I just can’t see them anymore. – Reddit.com

Bus-Size Asteroid Buzzes Earth, Comes Closer Than the Moon

A small asteroid about the size of a city bus zipped by Earth at a range closer than the moon early Saturday (May 3), but posed no threat to our planet.

The newly discovered asteroid 2014 HL129 came within 186,000 miles (299,338 kilometers) of Earth when it made its closest approach on Saturday morning, which is close enough to pass between the planet and the orbit of the moon. The average distance between the Earth and moon is about 238,855 miles (384,400 km).

You can watch a video animation of asteroid 2014 HL129′s orbit around the sun on Space.com. The asteroid is about 25 feet (7.6 meters) wide, according to NASA’s Asteroid Watch project based at the agency’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif. It made its closest approach to Earth at 4:13 a.m. EDT (0813 GMT).

Saturday’s close shave by asteroid 2014 HL129 came just days after its discovery on Wednesday, April 28, by astronomers with the Mt. Lemmon Survey team, according to an alert by the Minor Planet Center, an arm of the International Astronomical Union that chronicles asteroid discoveries. The Mt. Lemmon Survey team scans the night sky with a telescope at the Steward Observatory atop Mt. Lemmon in Arizona’s Catalina Mountains.

NASA scientists and researchers around the world constantly monitor the sky for potentially dangerous asteroids that could pose a risk of impacting the Earth. – Space

Stephen Hawking Says A.I. Could Be Our ‘Worst Mistake In History’

Writing in The Independent, the scientists warn:

…Looking further ahead, there are no fundamental limits to what can be achieved: there is no physical law precluding particles from being organised in ways that perform even more advanced computations than the arrangements of particles in human brains. An explosive transition is possible, although it might play out differently from in the movie: as Irving Good realised in 1965, machines with superhuman intelligence could repeatedly improve their design even further, triggering what Vernor Vinge called a “singularity” and Johnny Depp’s movie character calls “transcendence”.

One can imagine such technology outsmarting financial markets, out-inventing human researchers, out-manipulating human leaders, and developing weapons we cannot even understand. Whereas the short-term impact of AI depends on who controls it, the long-term impact depends on whether it can be controlled at all.

So, facing possible futures of incalculable benefits and risks, the experts are surely doing everything possible to ensure the best outcome, right? Wrong. If a superior alien civilisation sent us a message saying, “We’ll arrive in a few decades,” would we just reply, “OK, call us when you get here – we’ll leave the lights on”? Probably not – but this is more or less what is happening with AI. Although we are facing potentially the best or worst thing to happen to humanity in history, little serious research is devoted to these issues outside non-profit institutes such as the Cambridge Centre for the Study of Existential Risk, the Future of Humanity Institute, the Machine Intelligence Research Institute, and the Future Life Institute. All of us should ask ourselves what we can do now to improve the chances of reaping the benefits and avoiding the risks…

Abandoned Asylum: Horrors of Forest Haven

44 photos of Forest Haven Asylum

Kevin Feeheley and some old high school buddies were driving to a party not long ago when they decided to take a detour to explore a haunted village they’d heard about near the headquarters of the National Security Agency.

The rumor was that government agents accidentally killed everyone in a town east of Laurel with radiation, buried their bodies in unmarked graves and left without even cleaning up.

As his car’s headlights swung around a bend, Feeheley saw evidence to suggest the ghost story was true. A cluster of buildings stood in a forest clearing with their doors gaping open and curtains lolling out of shattered windows. A stone slab announced that 389 people were buried in an adjacent field.

“I wondered what in the world went on here?” said Feeheley, a 20-year-old title clerk from Glen Burnie. “My nerves were really shot.”

Like other young thrill-seekers in northern Anne Arundel County, Feeheley had been drawn to the ruins of Forest Haven, a District of Columbia institution for the mentally retarded that the U.S. Justice Department closed in 1991 because residents were dying of abuse and neglect.

Twenty years after a judge ordered the district to begin transferring the residents to group homes, Forest Haven’s 21 decaying brick buildings remain as a symbol of the failed policy of institutionalizing the mentally disabled.

Community residents and fire officials are demanding that the district tear down the ruins that have become a magnet for young ghost-hunters, arsonists and vandals.

“D.C. has been a very bad neighbor,” said Pastel S. Puffinberger, 69, a retired carpenter who lives about 200 yards from the entrance to Forest Haven. “They should bulldoze the place. The kids are breaking in there, doing dope and smashing windows. It’s pretty creepy.”

But district officials say they have no plans to demolish or retreat from their outpost in Maryland. They are talking about new construction on the site, which infuriates residents.

The district runs the Oak Hill youth detention center next door and is discussing using some of the Forest Haven property to build a jail in fiscal 2000, said Rhonda Stewart, spokeswoman for the district’s Department of Human Services.

Gayle L. Turner, an administrator for the district’s Youth Services Administration, said that the district has tried to board up the Forest Haven buildings but that teen-agers keep tearing down the boards.

“Initially, our focus was on deinstitutionalizing the patients, not making sure the buildings were well kept,” Turner said. “But we are looking into the buildings now. We hope to install a gate across the entrance in the next 30 to 60 days.”

Maryland City volunteer Fire Chief Ray Smallwood said the district’s neglect has allowed the buildings to become a safety hazard. Teen-age partyers and other trespassers have started about 14 fires this year, he said.

“A lot of kids come up here at night, for sex, for booze, for drugs, to hang out and light fires. They think it’s fun. I guess they like it better than the mall,” said Smallwood.

The U.S. Park Police, who patrol the federal land on which the district-owned buildings sit, have responded to 16 reports of problems at Forest Haven this year, twice as many as last year, said spokesman Sgt. David Mulholland. About half were for trespassing; the rest for minor crimes such as abandoned vehicles.

In September, police arrested a 44-year-old Odenton man who was found lurking around one of the abandoned buildings with gloves and a flashlight.

“He said it was the closest thing he could find to a cave and he was exploring,” Mulholland said. “We gave him an A for creativity, but a citation for trespassing.”

Police have found a few young ghost-hunters. In March, police arrested two Linthicum men, ages 18 and 19, in their cars outside one of the bunker-like cottages.

“They had heard the complex was haunted, and they wanted to check it out,” Mulholland said. “Given the history of the place, your imagination could run wild.”

    Institutional abuse

Forest Haven was the site of one of the top 10 worst cases of institutional abuse in U.S. history, said Tony Records, a Bethesda-based expert on mental retardation.

As part of a wave of class action lawsuits that forced a revolution in the way governments house the mentally disabled, parents who found their children covered with bruises in Forest Haven sued the district in 1976.

With the help of the Justice Department, they forced the district to transfer the roughly 1,000 residents into smaller and better-supervised group homes scattered throughout the city over about a decade.

Records said that some of the Forest Haven buildings should be preserved as a museum.

“I believe Forest Haven’s history must be maintained because our nation must not forget how these vulnerable people were treated,” he said. “We need to remember so we don’t make the same mistake again.” – Baltimore Sun

NOTE: Forest Haven is about 20 minutes from me and is not the only abandoned asylum in the Baltimore/Washington DC metro area. I was last there about 8 years ago. The Henryton State Hospital (near Marriotsville, MD) was just a few miles from me as well. It was one of the most haunted locations I have ever visited (razed in 2013). Lon

Open letter to the U.S. Air Force regarding alegations of UFO disinformation

    (Before It's News)

I sent this letter to the U.S. Air Force on July 11, 2013 to solicit an official response to allegations by ex-special agent Richard Doty of the U.S. Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI) that he participated in spreading UFO disinformation. Among his claims, he says he broke into a civilian’s home, created hoaxed documents, and lied to two U.S. Senators. Some of these are criminal acts that he claims he committed on orders from his superiors in the AFOSI. Whether or not this is true, these acts were committed while he was an AFOSI special agent, and I believe the U.S. Air Force needs to respond.

After working with the AFOSI public affairs department on Freedom of Information Act Requests (FOIA) related to this incident, I was told I would be able to speak to someone who could give me an official response. However, once I received the documents I was told they had nothing further to say.

    —–

    Allegations of Criminal Misconduct

Air Force Office of Special Investigations Agent Richard Doty claims to have partaken in the acts of misinforming members of congress, breaking into the private residence of a civilian government contractor, and disseminating known forgeries of government documents while on active duty in the 1980s. Furthermore, he claims to have committed these acts on the orders of his superiors at AFOSI.

Although his claims have garnered a large amount of public attention, including having been the subject of several books (including one by New York Times Journalist Howard Blum), and were directly related to the government contractor mentioned above having been temporarily committed to a mental health facility, the U.S. Air Force has yet to comment on the veracity of his claims.

Was the U.S. Air Force involved with these criminal acts, as claimed by Doty, and if not what was done regarding his conduct?

    Background

Beginning in the 1980s, Paul Bennewitz began reporting strange lights over the Manzano area of Kirtland Air Force Base, and claimed to have recorded unusual signals emanating from the base (1). Bennewitz was the owner of Thunder Scientific, a humidity company with contracts with Kirtland and several other branches of the military and government contractors (2). He believed the lights and signals were due to extraterrestrial activity (3).

According to documents retrieved from previous FOIA requests, officers at Kirtland looked at his evidence on two occasions and decided not to investigate (1)(3). Bennewitz contacted Senator Harrison Schmitt and Senator Pete Domenici, both of whom made inquiries about the status of the investigation on Bennewitz’s material to Air Force Office of Special Investigations Special Agent Richard Doty. In both cases, Agent Doty informed the senators that there was no AFOSI investigation on this matter (3)(4). Likewise, the files do show that after each review of Bennewitz’s material, it was recommended that an investigation not be initiated (1)(3). This is the extent of the material regarding Bennewitz and AFOSI in these files.

However, Richard Doty has since claimed that he lied to the senators on behalf of AFOSI, and that there was a disinformation campaign underway against Bennewitz. According to statements he has made to several associates, and on at least one national radio program, he told Bennewitz there was an investigation and he gave Bennewitz hoaxed material to support this claim (5). The first such document was given to Bennewtiz after Senator Schmitt’s inquiry, and just prior to Senator Domenici’s (3)(4)(14).

According to Doty, and witnessed by others, he continued his campaign to convince Bennewitz that he was actually experiencing extraterrestrial phenomena for several years. New Mexico state police officer Gabe Valdez claimed in interviews with me that he was present when Doty flew Bennewitz over the town of Dulce, New Mexico (6). Doty claims he convinced Bennewitz that there was an alien base under nearby Archuleta Mountain.

It was during this time that Doty claims he was ordered to break into Bennewitz’s residence. He told this to the author of a book on his disinformation activities titled, Project Beta: The Story of Paul Bennewitz, National Security, and the Creation of a Modern UFO Myth (7), and to retired U.S. Army Colonel John Alexander (8). Eventually, Bennewitz became so paranoid regarding an extraterrestrial invasion that he had to spend time in a mental institution (5).

Doty continues to spread information on UFOs and aliens he alleges to have received while working for AFOSI (5). Many of the documents he disseminated during his campaign against Bennewitz have grown into huge modern mythologies, spawning books, movies and TV shows.

Although on two occasions the Air Force has stated that documents pertaining to this matter, allegedly dispensed by Doty, are not real (9)(10), they have not spoken to whether Doty was under orders, as he claims, when he lied to the senators, broke into Bennewitz’s home, and dispensed material to Bennewitz making him believe he was under investigation. The question then is not whether the documents are hoaxes, but whether Doty hoaxed these documents under his own volition, or was ordered to do so as a part of a disinformation campaign, as he claims is the case.

If Doty was not acting under orders, this would mean he was forging government documents while he was an active AFOSI agent. In that case, AFOSI needs to respond to whether they were aware of Doty’s activities, and if so, what action was taken. It would be surprising to find AFOSI was not aware of this sort of criminal activity going on for several years by one of their agents. Doty has indicated he was demoted at one point, however, this is not documented in the military records I obtained through FOIA, nor is the reason for this demotion (11). It is also unknown whether this demotion has any relation to the apparent criminal activity related to this case.

    The official AFOSI Bennewitz files

These files have been obtained separately through FOIA requests by UFO researcher and author William Moore, Citizens Against UFO Secrecy (CAUS), and Navy physicist, Bruce Maccabee.  Because of the multiple sources, and the high credibility of Dr. Maccabee and the files released by CAUS, I believe these documents to be legitimate. The USAF has informed the recipients that these are all of the files related to AFOSI and Bennewitz. I am seeking confirmation through my own pending FOIA request (Case # 2013-03291-F). [This was written prior to the fulfillment of my FOIA request, which was fulfilled August 2, 2013, and  included the same documents I reference here. View the documents I received here.]

The first document is a Multipurpose Internal OSI Form dated October 28, 1980, and signed by Major Thomas Cseh. The subject is “Alleged Sightings of Unidentified Aerial Lights in Restricted Test Range.” It states that Bennewitz contacted Doty through Major Ernest E. Edwards. Bennewitz claimed to have “knowledge and evidence of threats against Manzano Weapons Storage area.” On October 26, 1980 Doty, along with Jerry Miller, Chief Scientific Advisor for the Air Force Test and Evaluation Center at Kirtland, went to Bennewitz’s residence and conducted an interview. It is noted that Miller had experience investigating UFOs with Project Blue Book. They reviewed photographs, 8mm film, and recording tapes showing periods of high levels of electrical magnetism emitted from the Manzano/Coyote Canyon area. They noted Bennewitz also had surveillance equipment pointed at the base to record high frequencies (1).

They concluded that there were some type of “unidentified aerial objects” caught on the film, but they could not determine whether they posed a threat. They also found the electronic recording tapes to be inconclusive. They informed FTD [Foreign Technology Division] of their findings who wanted to inspect Bennewitz’s data, and briefed their command. However, it was noted that command “did not request an investigation at this time (1).”

The second file is another Multipurpose Internal OSI Form dated November 26, 1980, and also signed by Major Thomas Cseh. The subject is again, “Alleged Sightings of Unidentified Aerial Lights in Restricted Test Range.” The report describes a meeting that took place on the base on November 10, 1980, between Brigadier General William Brooksher, seven other officers, and Bennewitz. Bennewitz presented film and photographs which he believed to be of alien spacecraft, and described how he believed he was in contact with these aliens. He requested a grant to further research his interactions. One of those present, Dr. Lehman, Director of the Air Force Weapons Laboratory at Kirtland, told Bennewitz he would help him fill out paperwork to request a grant from the USAF (3).

This document then states that on November 17, Doty advised Bennewitz that AFOSI would not investigate the objects, and that they were “not in a position to evaluate the information and photographs.” It also says that on the date of the report, November 26, 1980, Doty received a phone call from Senator Harrison Schmitt inquiring about AFOSI’s role in the investigation of the sightings reported by Bennewitz. Doty advised Schmitt that AFOSI was not investigating the phenomenon and referred him to another AFOSI district. Schmitt declined and said he would check with the Secretary of the Air Force to determine the correct USAF agency to investigate the phenomena. The final note in this document is that Bennewitz had many conversations with Senator Schmitt, and Schmitt had in turn called Brigadier General Brooksher on multiple occasions regarding Bennewitz’s sightings (3).

The third document is an AFOSI communication form noting a meeting between Senator Peter Domenici and Doty regarding Bennewitz. It is signed by Colonel Frank Huey. It says that the IG [Inspector General] contacted AFOSI to advise them that Senator Domenici wanted to talk to Doty. Colonel Harvell approved the meeting, and Domenici, who was already in the IG’s office, went directly to speak to Doty. The report then says a subsequent check was made with Domenici’s aide, Mr. Tijeros, to find out what they wanted to discuss with Doty. Tijeros said they wanted to know whether AFOSI had conducted a formal investigation of Bennewitz. Tijeros was informed that there was no formal investigation. Tijeros indicated that Senator Domenici will likely make no further inquiries into the matter (4).

These three documents seem to indicate that AFOSI humored Bennewitz by examining his evidence, but did not engage in a formal investigation. Doty served as the point of contact to inform Senators Schmitt and Domenici, as well as Bennewitz, that AFOSI would not be investigating Bennewitz’s alleged alien evidence.

    Richard Doty’s claims

The source for the claims I am referring to is a radio show appearance by Richard Doty on February 27, 2005. It was on a night time program called Coast to Coast AM, with a very large international listening audience. Although Doty has done many other interviews, they are almost all in print or online. Often his claims vary from one interview to another, and when pressed on this point, Doty often denies he made the statements. This includes a book he is credited as co-writing titled, Exempt from Disclosure. He claims he did not write the chapter credited to him, although his co-author notes he did sign the paperwork to authorize the book and cashed the checks for payment. Either way, I use the radio interview because it is similar to the core story he has been portraying in other interviews, and is one of the few sources with his verifiable direct statements.

According to Doty, in reference to his visit to Bennewitz’s residence with Miller on October 26, 1980, he says “The report was that this person had sufficient knowledge and the right equipment to tap into sensitive communications equipment and sensitive projects that was (sic) occurring in Kirtland.” The radio host, Art Bell responded, “Alright, somewhere in the mix of all this comes disinformation. In other words, you are going to admit tonight, I believe, that you dispensed disinformation, is that true?” To that Doty responds: “That is absolutely true.” Doty explained that this was done to protect base secrets. He said, “what we did is that we convinced him that what he was picking up wasn’t anything classified from the base, but in fact it was probably of alien origin (5).”

Doty says that Bennewitz also believed there was an alien base under Archuleta Mountain, near Dulce, New Mexico. Doty claims he worked with personnel from Ft. Carson to help perpetuate this idea. Doty explains, “We had a couple of black helicopters, and we had some things planted onto the ground around Archuleta peak, and just to convince him that what he was actually looking at, what he thought, actually was an alien base (5).”

Doty said that this disinformation campaign was an easier way to handle Bennewitz’s collection of sensitive Air Force activities than making him stop. He says, “It was easier for us to have done it that way than to get a warrant, a search warrant and a seizure warrant and seize all of his property and seize his equipment. What would that do? That would cause a lot of publicity, and the wrong type of publicity the base wanted (5).”

Bell asked Doty if he was aware that Bennewitz eventually ended up needing psychiatric care. Doty responded, “Yes, and I visited Paul a number of times.” He continued, “I was trying to convince Paul, and I went to his son to do this, that ‘hey, everything we told you before, Paul, isn’t true.’ And I explained to him why we were doing it, but he never believed me (5). “

Bell asked if he had any remorse for what happened to Bennewitz, to which Doty replied, “…it upset me what happened to Paul. I mean I went and tried to talk to Paul about it, against my commander’s orders. He told me, ‘Hey, he doesn’t have the clearance. You can’t go over there and tell him this stuff didn’t happen.’ But I did anyway, because I was concerned about Paul (5).”

Bell then asked Doty if there were other cases of UFO deception that Doty was involved with. He replied, “…pertaining to just UFOs, it was the four operations.” One of which he said was regarding researcher Linda Howe. He says, “…we invited her to Kirtland, we showed her some information pertaining to UFOs, we showed her a document and tried to bring her in and hook her on a hook, and she took it initially and then we carried on a contact with her over a period of time, meeting her at different locations and providing her with some information.” This is important because Doty has denied bringing Howe to Kirtland in the past, and has also denied showing her anything on UFOs. However, according to Howe, the document she was shown is very similar to a hoaxed document given to another UFO researcher, William Moore (5).

Doty elaborated on his association with Moore, saying, “Bill Moore was recruited by another person within Defense Intelligence Agency to provide disinformation.” In a letter to the editor in the July 15, 2000 issue of Saucer Smear, Doty wrote, “Moore was a coded source for OSI. That means he provided intelligence information that was documented. He was paid for his information. Moore was used to provide disinformation to Ufologists (12).” Although the details change, to my knowledge, Doty has never denied Moore’s involvement (5).

Finally, in regards to all of this, Doty claims in the radio program, “I followed orders. Everything we did was following orders (5).”

Although Doty claims the Bennewitz affair was disinformation, he also claims he was briefed on UFOs when he joined AFOSI. He says the briefing stated, among other things, “[Roswell] was real. We had an alien. It was in captivity up until 1951. He was kept at Kirtland and he was kept at Los Alamos. He died in the later part of 1951.” Doty also claims the alien liked strawberry ice cream and Tibetan music (5).

    Hoaxed documents

This section will review hoaxed documents linked to Doty, most of which are connected to the events we have reviewed thus far. We will also review one document that surfaced just prior to Doty’s interactions with Bennewitz. The significance here is that if Doty is to be believed, these documents, which have had a significant impact on the UFO research community and society in general, are official fabrications of the USAF. If these documents were not created in a disinformation campaign, then Doty either alone or with others, participated in hoaxing official government documents.

Moore, the UFO researcher mentioned in the radio program, was co-author, with Charles Berlitz, of the book The Roswell Incident, which was published in 1980. It was the first book on the alleged UFO crash in Roswell. He says that in 1980 he was approached by a high level intelligence official, the same person Doty referenced earlier as working in the DIA, who said he and others knew the truth about UFOs and wanted the information out, so they would help him with his work. Moore gave this man the code name “Falcon” and says the he was told he would work primarily through a liaison that turned out to be Doty. Many have speculated that Doty was Falcon, but Moore denies this (13).

Moore says he began providing Falcon and Doty information on the UFO community and Paul Bennewitz. During a speech at a UFO conference in 1989, Moore said, “My role in the affair was largely that of a freelancer providing information on Paul’s current thinking and activities. I had nothing whatsoever to do with the counterintelligence and the disinformation (13).” However, he later claimed he was involved with dispensing at least one hoaxed document (14).

Moore says he worked with Falcon and Doty until 1984 (13). Rumors of his involvement with government agents eventually lead him to come clean in the aforementioned speech in 1989, at which point he retired from UFO research. In 1990, along with his research partner, Jamie Shandera, he released a document called The MJ-12 Documents: An Analytical Report, which analyzed the documents related to the Bennewitz Affair.

The first hoaxed document Moore examines is not part of the Bennewitz affair, but it does have links to Doty. It is a letter, along with an Air Force Incident/Complaint Report, from Ellsworth Air Force Base, regarding a UFO encounter. The letter claimed the incident had occurred on November 16, 1977, and was subsequently classified on December 2, 1977. The author claims he wanted to get the information out before the Air Force covered it up. The letter was sent to the National Enquirer (14). According to Bob Pratt of the National Enquirer, those named in the letter were questioned, and the letter was determined to be a hoax (15).

It is included in Moore’s report because he says Doty was stationed at Ellsworth at the time (14). Military records for Doty I obtained also show Doty was at Ellsworth from 1976 to 1979 (11). When Moore asked about the document, Doty told him he was aware of the “operation,” to create the document, but did not have any direct involvement (14).

The second document is a letter sent to a UFO organization called the Aerial Phenomena Research Organization (APRO) in July of 1980 about a UFO sighting that was witnessed by Craig Weitzel near Pecos, NM. It claims Weitzel was stationed at Dobbins AFB, but was visiting Kirtland. The letter claims a man in a black suit told Weitzel he saw something he should not have and demanded photographs of the object that Weitzel had taken. The man writing the letter claims he was a friend of Weitzel’s, and was himself stationed at Kirtland. He said Weitzel had spoken to an OSI agent named “Mr. Dody (sic)” about the matter (17).

Moore worked with APRO at the time the letter was received. He says the letter was loosely based off a real sighting, but was a hoax. He also says he didn’t know it then, but he found out later that Doty had written this letter. He says Doty told him the letter was meant to draw someone out of APRO who could provide information on B

The third document is the first piece of disinformation allegedly given to Bennewitz. Moore says the document was given to him by Falcon and Doty to give to Bennewitz (14). The document was an alleged secret AFOSI teletype dated November, 1980. It was regarding analysis of Bennewitz’s photographs and alleges that this investigation is part of a secret project called Aquarius “with restricted access to ‘MJ Twelve’.” It claims NASA is monitoring the case and that AFOSI is gathering evidence and forwarding it to NASA (18).

Moore says he was given the document in March of 1981, but because he was hesitant to give knowingly false information to Bennewitz, he did not deliver it until late that summer (14). This timing is notable, because it was late summer, specifically July 30, when Senator Domenici went to Kirtland to ask about the Bennewitz investigation (4). Although Bennewitz and Senator Schmitt had already been told there was no AFOSI investigation (3)(4), the receipt of this document could explain why Bennewitz and/or Senator Domenici believed there was an investigation in the summer of 1981.

The fourth document is a list of notes allegedly used to brief President Carter on the UFO situation with bombastic claims of Air Force cover-ups regarding crashed UFOs, alien technology, interactions with aliens, etc. The cover again mentions Project Aquarius and “MJ12″ (19). Moore says he was allowed to view and photograph this document in March of 1983 (14). In April of 1983, Linda Howe says she was invited to Kirtland Air Force Base by Doty and shown this document, or one very similar. As noted above, in the radio interview, Doty confirms this (5).

The fifth and final document is an MJ-12 Eisenhower briefing. This document was sent to Moore’s research partner, Jamie Shandera, on December 11, 1984, in a package from Albuquerque, New Mexico. The document was on 35 mm film (14). The document’s content shows similarities to the alleged Carter briefing, including the mention of MJ-12 (20)(14), first referenced in the teletype (18). It was also sent from Albuquerque, where Doty lived at the time and was still stationed at Kirtland AFB. However, Doty denies having created or sent the document (14).

Moore also denies having created the document (14). Allegedly acting on an anonymous tip, Shandera and Moore claim to have found a supporting document in the National Archives on July 18, 1985. This document is a July 14, 1954 memo from Robert Cutler, Special Assistant to the President, to General Twining regarding a “NSC/MJ-12 Special Studies Project.” It is a short memo and discusses the date and time of a meeting. It does not allude to the nature of the meeting (14). The National Archives has since released a paper outlining 10 points that “pose problems” for the authenticity of the document (22). Otherwise, there has yet to be any verifiable official reference to MJ-12.

The FBI undertook an investigation of the MJ-12 Eisenhower Briefing due to multiple requests. That investigation included a request to AFOSI headquarters inquiring about its authenticity. AFOSI claimed the document to be “bogus,” however, neither they nor the FBI have commented as to the document’s origins (9). To date, AFOSI has not commented on whether they have any involvement with the creation of the documents, as alleged by their own AFOSI agent, who, as demonstrated, was very closely related to the individuals who allegedly were anonymously given these documents, a document which also shares similarities to other documents that he asked to be given to Bennewitz, and had shown Moore and Howe.

According to Doty, “The FBI did an investigation on me because of the MJ-12 documents. It was 88 or 89… They thought I disclosed those documents (5).” If this is true, the results of their investigation have yet to be revealed.

    Conclusion

Due to the extent at which the mythology created by Doty’s official or non-official disinformation campaign has worked its way into an alleged hidden history of Air Force and U.S. government secrecy, and due to the negative impact these events had on Mr. Bennewitz and his family, we deserve a response from the Air Force on their involvement, or non-involvement in this matter. Mr. Doty is now a sergeant for the New Mexico State Police, based out of Grants, and he continues to make wild accusations about the Air Force’s secret knowledge of UFOs and aliens. If he was not under orders to fabricate these documents, as he claims, then his employers and those he continues to attempt to perpetrate hoaxes upon, deserve to know this.

The Enrique Castillo-Rincon alien contact case

    (Before It's News)

The following case from South America in the 1960s and 1970s presents one of the most well documented and captivating alleged extraterrestrial contact experiences to date.

The first contact with the unknown

In June 1963, Enrique Castillo, a thirty year old man, was working for the power utility company in Costa Rica to build an observation outpost near the top of the Irazu volcano. One day, along with two colleagues, he saw two circle-shaped orange objects in the sky with a diameter of about one hundred and twenty feet that were flying at eight hundred feet over the crater. As he wrote in his book OVNI: Gran Alborada Humana (UFO: A Great New Human Dawn), one of the two objects was falling out of the sky in a “falling leaf” movement (many UFOs are reported to fly as if they were leaves falling from a tree) and changed its color to a leaden hue. Castillo and his colleagues began feeling a terrible itch throughout their bodies. Suddenly, some sort of periscope came out of the UFO’s dome. On its top there was a hammer-shaped object that rotated rapidly and emitted a purple light. After a few minutes, the periscope was drawn back and the aircraft disappeared at high speed.

The three witnesses, despite being puzzled, were totally aware of the fate that awaits those who tell stories which seemingly belong to the twilight zone; that’s why, at first, they decided not to reveal anything. In the next few hours, however, they suffered from strong dizziness and vomiting. Therefore, for fear of having been exposed to radiation, they went to a hospital in San Jose. However, no radiation was detected.

    Disturbing phenomena

If the Castillo affair were over at this point, it would be nothing but an interesting sighting of an unidentified flying object whose proximity produced tangible physical effects.

On the contrary, the case is much more complex and multifaceted.

One night, two months after the sighting, Castillo heard a strange noise echoing in his head. Soon, he realized that he had heard the weird sound before, the day he and his colleagues saw the two flying saucers. Moreover, this time the noise was heard not only by Castillo, but also by his wife, Beatriz.

After these events, Castillo’s interest in UFO matters increased exponentially and he founded a group which studied UFO-related phenomena. In 1968, he moved to Brasilia for work. Five years had passed after the first sighting and the weird events seemed to have finally abandoned his life. Then, one day the mysterious made another appearance in Castillo’s everyday life. He was driving from Sao Paulo to Brasilia when a circular orange ball of light started to fly stationary over his car for a long distance, causing a lot of vibration in the chassis, steering problems and radio malfunctions.

This was just the first in a series of odd events. In 1969, the mysterious incidents continued. One Sunday, while Castillo was in line at a cinema to see the film “Barbarella”, a young man introduced himself as Cyril Weiss. He told Castillo that he was a representative of a wholesale distribution company in Switzerland and asked him permission to see the movie along with him. Castillo agreed and after watching the movie accompanied Mr. Weiss to the hotel where he resided. Mr. Weiss invited Castillo to come to the hotel the next day. During this meeting the two talked about several issues, and Mr. Weiss said that he believed the UFO phenomena was just a hoax.

A solid friendship was born and Castillo started to meet Mr. Weiss often. However, Castillo began to notice many oddities in his friend’s behavior. The episode that stunned Castillo most regards a car accident. One day, while driving along with Mr. Weiss, Castillo ran a dog over. A little child witnessed the accident and started to cry because his poor dog had died. Mr. Weiss showed an utter impassiveness, just stating that the boy would soon submit to the inevitability of what had happened. Castillo reported that Mr. Weiss’ look seemed totally indifferent, with no room for empathy.

Castillo started to be puzzled by the Swiss gentleman. He spoke Spanish fluently with no accent, and during another rendezvous, in evident contradiction with what he had told Castillo a few days earlier, said that he was sure that there could be extraterrestrial entities not only on other planets but also in some uninhabited areas on Earth.

One day, Mr. Weiss suddenly announced that he would go abroad for a long time. However, as we shall see, Castillo would meet Mr. Weiss again in the future, in a totally different disguise.

    Contact

It was 1973, four years had passed since Castillo’s last meeting with Mr. Weiss and everything seemed back to normal. In the meantime, Castillo had moved to Bogota, Colombia. One day, he received a phone call from someone named Karen, a Mexican woman who told him that she had been given his telephone number by some “extraterrestrial masters” who wanted to contact him.

Castillo, just like most rational people, thought it was a facetious joke, but still decided to meet the woman. She turned out to be very persuasive in her assertions and, consequently, Castillo started to attend meetings held by a group of people who claimed to be in contact with aliens from Andromeda (a galaxy at 2.3 million light-years from Earth) who had allegedly conveyed various messages to humans through automatic writing.

In October, 1973, one evening, the members of the UFO group had reached the top of a hill and were waiting for an announced contact with the extraterrestrials. To everybody’s disappointment, no spacecraft appeared on the scene but some members received a telepathic communication by a voice which said that everybody would be contacted at noon the day after.

At that time Castillo was at home, focused and ready to receive a message, despite being highly doubtful because, until then, he had not received anything. Suddenly a voice, loud in his head, called and urged him to write. Castillo began to fill up several pages, while hearing a disturbing noise that reminded him the one he had heard ten years before when he and his colleagues sighted two UFOs. The content of what he transcribed shows strong similarities with the communications received in those years by other contactees (from George Adamski to Howard Menger and Daniel Fry, just to mention the most famous and debated cases). They alluded to a Third World War, future disasters, and the arrival of “space brothers”.

The messages continued over the following days until the end of October, when Castillo was told the date of an upcoming physical contact, set for November 3, although the exact place had not been communicated yet (Castillo declared it would be near a lake). At the same time, Castillo’s oneiric activity  grew exponentially, providing him with other clues about the place where the meeting would occur.

On November 3, the day of the alleged contact, Castillo reached a lake at about 80 kilometres from Bogota and recognised what he had seen in a dream, a ball placed under the roots of a tree in the middle of a clearing. He took it in his hands and it began to emit thin rays of light and, after a few minutes, two flying saucers appeared. They were similar to those Castillo had spotted in Costa Rica ten years before. The two UFOs approached Castillo, producing strong orange rays like a searchlight towards the ground. Two figures in gray uniforms came out of the light, they wore boots and helmets with visors. Meanwhile, a voice in Castillo’s head told him not to worry and suggested that he climb on-board. Despite being a wee bit reluctant, Castillo walked within the range of the searchlight and then he was lifted on board.

    Rincon-UFO-Rincon

He was forced to undress and underwent a microbial decontamination inside an empty hexagonal room. A door suddenly appeared on a wall and two men entered the room. To Castillo’s utmost astonishment, one of the two men turned out to be Cyril Weiss, the mysterious Swiss man he had met four years earlier. The “Swiss” said that his real name was Krishnamerck and accompanied Castillo into another room where there were other beings, all similar to Weiss (the classic “Nordic alien”).

Castillo asked several questions and was always given a reply. The Pleiadians told him that they had a lot of bases on Earth, that the first contact dated back to thousands years before Christ and that they have been actively influencing our technological development. Their spacecrafts could become invisible so as not to frighten humanity which was not ready yet for the revelation of an alien presence. Many Pleiadian emissaries, as communicated to Castillo, were already among the population and aimed to create groups to cooperate with humans.

That was just the first in a series of physical contacts with the Pleiadians which continued until January 1975 into a sort of crescendo. Castillo claimed of having been taken to a base in the Andes where both humans and aliens cooperated together, as well as to a submarine base in the Mariana Trench at about 5,000 metres under the sea. On both occasions, Castillo allegedly met extraterrestrial masters of wisdom who warned him about future disasters and conflicts that would devastate the planet should a “shift in our consciousness” not occur in time.

    Rincon-UFO-2

    Pros and Cons

From the outset, one would legitimately think that Castillo invented at most of what he had claimed. In fact, the only undoubted aspect of the whole story is the beginning, the sighting that occurred in 1963 with his colleagues and the subsequent physical ailments. But it would be too easy to dismiss his experiences as mere reveries.

The first consideration is that anybody who wished to invent a story of alien contacts, would not include some elements that, even at first sight, tend to appear totally ridiculous. All the data and information relating to the names of the extraterrestrial beings, the encounter with three meters tall inhabitants of Mercury and Venus (uninhabited planets according to the information available to date), the New Age style messages about nuclear wars and the need to educate a new generation to make it aware of its role, are certainly elements that can make you laugh for their extreme banality and/or presumed nonsense, but it is exactly their banality that should lead us to take into consideration the possibility that Castillo had merely, and honestly, reported what he was told.

Indeed, if you carefully analyse the various details of this case you will be probably inclined to believe that Castillo is not a hoaxer.

First of all, you should keep in mind that Castillo was not the only one who received these sorts of messages. Other members in his group and, most of all, members of groups from all over the world made similar accounts in those years, as if a lot of humans were told the same story by unknown entities.

Secondly, it is pretty evident that the entire story shows striking parallelisms with the Friendship affair, at its peak between 1956 and 1978 in most part of the world, contacts with alien beings with seemingly peaceful intents, which approached small groups of humans and started a collaboration.

Not to mention, the declarations made by Castillo about UFO-crashes, reverse-engineering operations and mind guided spaceships; all details that nowadays are being discussed even on TV but that in the 1970′s were not well known or talked about.

    Conclusions

In any case, the big question does not concern the possible authenticity of what Castillo specifically reported but, why? In that period of time there was a plethora of highly homogeneous and similar stories.

None of these contactees have gained economic profit, nor have they convinced the masses of the truth of their experiences. They have never contradicted themselves, nor they have changed their testimonies, despite the general hilarity with which their reports were received, they have not attempted to convert or deceive anybody.

But… what if they were deceived? Who can be sure that that the entities they came into contact with were sincere in regards to their origins, their looks and their true intents?

Just keep in mind that, until seventy years ago, these beings claimed to come from Fairyland, Tir nan Og, Magonia, or Hell. Now the frame of reference has changed, and these entities allegedly come from Mars, Venus, Pleiades, Zeta Reticuli. If they are real, are they telling the truth? Nobody knows.

ANOTHER UFO CAUGHT ACCIDENTIALLY BY DIGITAL CAMERA

    (Before It's News)

Photo of UFO captured in Beeston, Nottingham, England

The original digital photo we received was 2816 pixels by 2112 pixels and the DPI was 72.

Enlargment and enhancement of Beeston UFO by Robert Morningstar

    • Date: May 1, 2006
    Time of Day: 18:32
    Location: Beeston, Nottingham, England.
    Witness Account: Adrian Prior

Received an email from Adrian Prior, who lives in Chilwell Nottingham, on June 26, 2006. He and his girl friend Liz were walking his dog in Beeston, which is South-East of Nottingham, England.

They had decided to take her new digital camera and try it out. The actual photo was taken on Monday May 1, 2006 and was photographed by Liz. They stayed in this area for approximately five minutes before moving on.

map of Beeston, Nottingham, EnglandLiz was facing North. The photo as one can see is quite striking. The object to the right of the church spire is very prominent and one wonders how the object was not seen when first shot. One possible explanation is that the craft was moving so quickly the human eye could not perceive it. Another more easily acceptable reason is that the particular view finder on the camera simple didn't show the entire panormal of the scene. That is it only showed the center object in the view finder.

It is not unusual at all to see aircraft flying in the area as the air space is heavily traveled by aircraft approaching the main runway to Nottingham Airport.

Adrian emailed me today (July 11, 2006) and informed me that “I'm asking the Nature park centre to put up a notice for anyone to come forward with more information as there were lots of people around on the day, also a friend at work said something similar was in the local paper so I'm going to check that out too.”

Robert Morningstar, as usual, did a great job enlarging and enhancing the above photo.

Photo of UFO captured in Beeston, Nottingham, England
Received the above as a PDF from Adrian Prior, July 6, 2006.

As illustrated in the above picture the original photo was shoot using a Lumicron LDC-825z3. The camera has a built in 32 MB internal memory and a 2 inch LCD screen that allows the photographer to capture shots easily. It's MPEG-4 faciltiy allows you to record video footage as the eye sees making this camera excellent value for money.

    Area 51 museum exhibit reopening

    (Before It's News)

The Area 51 exhibit at the National Atomic Testing Museum in Las Vegas, Nevada is scheduled to reopen on May 17, 2014.

    Area 51

This exhibit, titled Area 51: Myth or Reality?, debuted on March 26, 2012 at the Smithsonian-affiliated museum. The exhibit materialized because former Area 51 employees were looking for a place to share their stories about recently declassified projects that took place at the top secret military installation. Although the exhibit features information and displays related to military aircraft projects, it also features several installations related to alleged extraterrestrial happenings at the base. The initial exhibit even featured strange debris labeled “Authentic Alien Artifact.”

The museum has hosted special UFO lectures since its opening in 2012 including one that featured former military personnel discussing UFOs.

The museum’s Area 51 exhibit has been closed temporarily while the staff works to expand and upgrade its offerings. Once it reopens on May 17, museum director Allan Palmer says this temporary exhibit will be open for another two years. The special grand reopening event will feature special guests including Area 51 experts like investigative journalist George Knapp who is credited with first introducing Area 51 to the public.

The museum is offering 50% off admission during this special reopening event.

VATICAN OFFICIAL DECLARES EXTRATERRESTRIAL CONTACT IS REAL

    (Before It's News)

    by Richard Boylan, Ph.D

Vatican Official Declares Extraterrestrial Contact Is RealMonsignor Corrado Balducci, a theologian member of the Vatican Curia (governing body), and an insider close to the Pope, has gone on Italian national television five times, including recent months, to proclaim that extraterrestrial contact is a real phenomenon. Balducci provided an analysis of extraterrestrials that he feels is consistent with the Catholic Church's understanding of theology. Monsignor Balducci emphasizes that extraterrestrial encounters “are NOT demonic, they are NOT due to psychological impairment, they are NOT a case of entity attachment, but these encounters deserve to be studied carefully.” Since Monsignor Balducci is a demonology expert and consultant to the Vatican , and since the Catholic Church has historically demonized many new phenomena that were poorly understood, his stating that the Church does not censure these encounters is all the more remarkable.

Balducci revealed to a visiting American professional that the Vatican is closely following this phenomenon quietly. My informant originally surmised that the Vatican is receiving much information about extraterrestrials and their contacts with humans from its Nunciatures (embassies) in various countries. But subsequent information indicated that the Monsignor has gotten his cases from other sources. Monsignor Balducci is a member of a group which acts as consultants to the Vatican on various matters concerning humans in possible contact with supernatural beings. As such, the matter of extraterrestrial encounters would fall within their purview, and possibly as well the spiritual significance of the emerging general realization of extraterrestrial contact.

Parallel information from National Security Council scientist Dr. Michael Wolf , a member of the NSC's SSG subcommittee for managing the UFO phenomenon, as well as from noted author and Vatican expert Father Malachi Martin, suggests that the Vatican is concerned that it will have a major doctrinal updating situation on its hands when extraterrestrial contact becomes authoritatively announced by world governments over the next several years.

ANOTHER BELL-SHAPED OBJECT PHOTOGRAPHED IN IDAHO

    (Before It's News)

A second Idaho witness has come forward with photos for a sighting on the same day depicting a bell-shaped object, according to May 5, 2014, testimony in Case 56000 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

We previously reported that an Ada County, ID, witness was watching and photographing a “massive bell-shaped object hovering in the sky” about 8:15 a.m. on May 1, 2014, according to testimony in Case 55952. On May 5, 2014, a second report was filed for the same date – but from a 7:30 a.m. sighting on May 1, 2014, in Boise County, ID, with multiple images.

The witness in Case 56000 was riding a bus when the object was first seen.

“Was shaped like a golden red bell – even had the knocker looking thing just like a bell does,” the witness stated. “But it was a solid object – no moving parts. No motor no sounds. I'm guessing its size to be bigger than at least three airplanes.”

Five images were included with MUFON Case 56000: Image 1, Image 2, Image 3, Image 4 and Image 5.

Please be cautious with witness photography until an investigation is complete. Idaho MUFON is currently conducting analysis on the images from both cases and an update to this case will be posed soon.
