The Investigation into the Aztec Incident; The Last Leg of the Journey

Warm Up the Presses

Although our decade’s long investigation is nearing its end, and will culminate in the form of a book to be released later this summer, the work is continuing right up to the last minute.

Information uncovered within the last year necessitated one final trip to the Southwest. This last jaunt took place primarily in Arizona as we were visiting various locations there.

Historian and aviation researcher Mike Price and I met with Dr. Frank Thayer, journalism professor at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, and former department head. Dr. Thayer has been an enormous help in our research and his skills in editing our new book have been invaluable; he wanted to join us on what we think is the last major excursion before we hit the "print button" for our tome.

Once the boots-on-the-ground investigation was completed (re our newly uncovered information), we had the pleasure of meeting with J. Andy Kissner, the former State Representative from New Mexico, who has helped me with research on Aztec in the past.

Andy was also integral to former New Mexico Senator Steven Schiff’s investigation into the Roswell Incident, which involved an audit of the files of various military agencies, beginning with the Air Force—this was conducted by the General Accounting Office (GAO). The investigation ended with the GAO having more questions than answers as many documents were missing and presumed destroyed at some point.

We also had time to see Mike Fortson, one of the key witnesses to the Phoenix Lights case back in 1997. Mike and I have met before, but Mike Price and Dr. Thayer had never had the privilege. We had an enjoyable time sharing research (in general) as well as bringing Mike up to speed on the last stages of the book.

20 Years Later, the Two Veteran Researchers Finally Meet

Following our stay in Arizona, we (Mike Price and I) were off to the west coast to meet with author/researcher Bill Steinman (Dr Thayer would make his way back to New Mexico). As the book is nearing fruition, I had made up my mind sometime back that a face-to-face meeting with Bill was paramount before the book goes to press.

I read Bill's book UFO Crash at Aztec back in 1991 after I had been researching the Aztec case for several years; I had not been aware of Bill's work until someone gave me a copy of the book and it wasn’t long before I contacted him.

This had been a long journey for me, as although I had been in communication with Bill for twenty years—we had never met. Going back in time for a moment, the “first’ conversation with him was quick and to the point; although he was cordial it was clear he didn’t take my interest seriously, or more to the point—like a few before me, he presumed “I wasn’t serious about Aztec research” and would soon lose interest. He instructed me to call him when I had more years under my belt! I explained to him that I first heard about the Aztec case back in the late 80's, but this fell on deaf ears, and he basically "sent me packing".

Given my business background, hearing “no’s” or receiving less then desired results in initial introductions or meetings, I wasn’t deterred; in fact—quite the opposite! Within a few months he slowly started to warm up to me, and my research; we were soon brain-storming new ideas and he ended up giving me a few leads that he received after his book came out (important to remember that he is/was retired from UFO research at this time). We’ve been friends ever since.

Even when Bill was still actively involved in research, as a rule he didn’t give interviews, and in that vein, this meeting was a rare privilege. Although Ufology is behind him, he is still active in research of another flavor, as he is currently working on a new book entitled, The History of Rock and Roll.

He and his wife were wonderful hosts and we enjoyed our meeting; Bill was equally intrigued with our new revelations ala Aztec, as we were recounting the facts published in his book and well as some minutia that was left out, or was learned later.

As I stated earlier, (after our initial conversation) Bill has always had the time to listen to what I have found and compared it to what he learned over the years, as well. His book is probably more popular today than when it came out back in 1987. The Aztec case had been written off over the years but Bill picked up where Frank Scully left off. The interest seemed "light" until a few years ago when people started looking at the events in deeper detail.

To our delight, before we parted company, Bill gave Mike and me a set of audio tapes of different people connected to Aztec that he recorded back in the ‘80's, and these interviews never made it into the book or have never been heard by the public. As our book goes to the final stages of editing by the talents of Dr. Thayer, I am listening to these tapes to see if anything needs to be inserted into our book at the last minute.

As if that wasn’t enough, the final gift granted by Bill, was his agreeing to write the preface for our book (the foreword is written by Stanton Friedman).

In the aftermath of our insightful, most rewarding meeting, on the flight home, I couldn’t help but reflect on the void that exists in Ufology without the likes of Bill Steinman being an active participant in it.

On a final note: traveling and doing research is not easy work; the past two years I have been blessed by having Mike Price along for the help. Mike can appreciate the long hours and sometimes "dusty" tasks of digging into old boxes. Moreover, our wives have held down the Forts or Farms while Mike and I were gone, and we certainly were thankful for their help.

Ex-Astronaut Story Musgrave: ETs Exist, They're Just Not Visiting Earth

When former astronaut Story Musgrave addresses an expected huge throng of UFO believers in California next week, he'll delight the crowd when he tells them he believes we're not alone in the universe.

But then he's going to tell members of the Mutual UFO Network -- the largest UFO research organization in the world -- just what they don't want to hear: Earth has probably not been visited by extraterrestrials.

And that's bound to disappoint many of the paying crowd at the 42nd annual MUFON Symposium in Irvine, Calif. The gathering will feature nuclear physicist Stanton Friedman, former Air Force intelligence officer George Filer and other prominent UFO researchers.

"I'm going to tell them that, for me, and my interpretation of everything that's come my way, I cannot arrive at the idea that we have been visited -- either in the past or now," Musgrave told The Huffington Post.

Musgrave -- who logged 25 million miles during six space shuttle missions and who developed the spacesuit that was used by shuttle astronauts for space walks -- says that, despite dozens of military eyewitnesses, photos, films and corroborating radar reports, he's still not convinced.

"Some astronauts have been quoted as saying they think they're [aliens] out there -- I have seen their evidence, and for me, it's not evidence," he said. "Other astronauts were not able to provide me with any empirical evidence, either."

Musgrave is the keynote speaker at the MUFON event. During his many years with NASA, he says he actually looked for evidence of a UFO conspiracy from within the space agency and the government.

"I've been as deep in the military as you can go. I was Marine Corps and Air Force and spent all this time with the government -- I was on two classified department of defense missions, which got me as deep in the bowels of the military and the intelligence community as you can go," he insisted.

"I found no conspiracy in terms of covering up information about extraterrestrial visits. I simply didn't find it!"

The theme for the upcoming UFO symposium is "ET Contact: The Implications for Science and Society" and features a roster of speakers presenting subjects such as UFO disclosure, life on Mars, time travel, anti-gravity propulsion systems, government conspiracies and how alien contact would affect science, technology and religion.

MUFON's international director, Clifford Clift, isn't concerned that Musgrave's not supporting the aliens-are-here theory.

"Sometimes we get too close to the subject and should realize that we need to step back and look at the different approach to the science of this," Clift told The Huffington Post.

"I think Story will enlighten us that way. That doesn't mean that they don't exist, because I'm quite certain that he's going to say he's never seen [a UFO]. But that's okay. If he stays around for the rest of the conversations and talks to some of the witnesses, he might have a little different approach to it."

But while Musgrave doesn't think Earth has been a vacation spot on any alien itinerary, he's pretty adamant that intelligent beings are thriving elsewhere in the cosmos.

"I feel that they're everywhere out there and they're doing interstellar travel -- we'll think differently about ourselves once we accept that," he said.

Een docent aan het New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell heeft waarschijnlijk het eerste wetenschappelijk bewijs gevonden van industrieel vervaardigde brokstukken afkomstig van een andere planeet. Bovendien werden de brokstukken gevonden op de locatie in de buurt van Roswell waar in 1947 de wrakstukken van een beweerde vliegende schotel werden ontdekt.

Frank Kimbler geeft op het New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell op high school niveau les in geowetenschap en op collegeniveau in geologie. Hij zegt dat hij altijd al geïnteresseerd is geweest in UFO’s en in feite een eigen ongewone waarneming deed toen hij in de twintig was. Dus toen hij naar Roswell verhuisde besloot hij zijn vakkennis te testen en probeerde het meest beroemde UFO-incident aller tijden te onderzoeken, namelijk de crash bij Roswell.

Hij zegt dat zijn hoofddoel was om wat fysiek bewijs te vinden. Hij begon met het bekijken van satellietfoto’s van het beweerde wrakveld. Dat is waar rancher Mac Brazel de luchtmacht wees op de stukken van een gecrasht object welke hij had gevonden. Kimbler gebruikte deze foto’s om het infrarood te verhogen om zodoende de gebieden naar voren te halen die waren verstoord. Hij was verrast een gebied te vinden dat gelijk was aan wat de getuigen hadden verteld. Het was ongeveer driekwart mijl lang en een paar honderd voet breed en het lag in de richting zoals de getuigen dat hadden aangegeven. Het viel hem ook op dat het gebied zeer strakke randen had, iets dat ongewoon is voor een natuurlijk gebied.

Zijn volgende stap was om erheen te gaan met een metaaldetector om te kijken of hij wat kon vinden. Hij begon de plek te bezoeken in mei 2010. Hij gebruikte een metaaldetector die stukjes kon vinden met de afmetingen van 6mm op een diepte van 8cm in de grond, daarmee kon hij de kleinste stukjes vinden en dat was zijn doel. Tijdens eerdere archeologische opgravingen had men de grond gezeefd in zeven die groot genoeg waren om de kleine deeltjes erdoor te laten vallen. Kimbler vond dat als er iets was achtergebleven het heel klein moest zijn en misschien te vinden was in holletjes van dieren of mierenhopen. En het was in feite een mierenhoop waarin hij zijn eerste stukje vond.

Wat hij vond was een zilverig metaal dat op aluminium leek. Dat was vreemd omdat er geen aanwijzingen waren dat er enige aluminium objecten in het gebied waren of waren geweest. Hij vond ook af en toe tin, dat kon afkomstig zijn van de tinnen daken die soms in de rondte vlogen, en enkele spijkers. Uiteindelijk vond hij meer van deze zilverachtige stukjes en hij zegt dat ze er verscheurd uitzagen. Sommige randen ervan leken gesmolten te zijn. Hij vond ook aluminium knopen die eruit zagen als de modellen die werden gebruikt op militaire werktenues van eind jaren ’40. Als dat zo is, dan toont dat aan dat het leger in dat gebied was.

Kimbler vond dat de kleine zilverachtige stukjes interessant genoeg waren voor een verdere analyse. Hij ging voor hulp naar het Roswell International UFO Museum and Research Center. Gevestigd in het centrum van Roswell is het museum het middelpunt van het onderzoek naar de Roswell-crash. Hij liet het materiaal zien aan de directeur van het museum, Julie Shuster, en was in staat onderzoeker Don Schmitt te ontmoeten. Zij besloten de eerste test te betalen die werd uitgevoerd door New Mexico Tech in Socorro. Door gebruik te maken van een micro-probe waren ze in staat de samenstelling van het materiaal vast te stellen. Het bleek te gaan om een legering van aluminium, silicium, mangaan, magnesium en koper. Dat is niet onbekend, maar het wordt gebruikt in de constructiebouw en wordt normaal niet gevonden in de vorm van een folie.

Dat inspireerde Kimbler om wat isotopenwerk op het stukje te laten doen. Kimbler zegt dat het isotopenwerk zo belangrijk is omdat de isotopenverhoudingen ‘vergelijkbaar zijn met onze vingerafdrukken’. Sommige concentraties van elementen op aarde zijn uniek voor deze aarde. Dus als je de isotopenverhouding voor magnesium weet, dan zal die voor alles op aarde waar magnesium in zit hetzelfde zijn, maar als het niet van deze aarde is, dan zal het een andere isotopenverhouding hebben. Bijvoorbeeld meteorieten hebben verschillenden verhoudingen omdat ze niet van deze aarde afkomstig zijn. Isotopenanalyse is noodzakelijk om vast te stellen of een materiaal afkomstig is van de aarde of van een andere wereld.

Kimbler ging naar het University of New Mexico Institute of Meteoritics en sprak met hun expert op het gebied van isotopen om een analyse gedaan te krijgen. Kimbler had de expert niets verteld over de monsters. De expert keek Kimbler echter recht in de ogen en vertelde hem dat de enige reden waarom hij het materiaal wilde testen was omdat hij vermoedde dat het vanuit de ruimte kwam. Hij wilde weten waar het materiaal vandaan kwam en toen Kimbler hem dat vertelde weigerde hij de test te doen, hij beweerde dat het idee van een ruimteschip dat bij Roswell was gecrasht ‘grote nonsens’ was. Eén van de andere wetenschappers die in het kantoor aanwezig was, wees erop dat als het iets ongewoons was, het belang van die mogelijkheid het het waard maakte om ernaar te kijken. De expert bleef echter bij zijn mening en weigerde het werk te doen. De tweede wetenschapper was micro-probe specialist aan de universiteit en ondanks dat hij geen isotopenwerk kon uitvoeren, was hij wel in staat meer specifieke informatie over de samenstelling van het materiaal te verkrijgen en bevestigde het eerdere werk dat al gedaan was.

Bigelowe Aerospace toonde enige interesse en wilde Kimbler wel helpen met zijn analyse, maar nadat men maanden bezig was geweest en weinig resultaat boekte moest Kimbler ergens anders naartoe. Kimbler was in staat een ander laboratorium met vele bevoegdheden te vinden en dat bereid was het werk uit te voeren. Het UFO-museum bracht het geld bijeen en de resultaten waren binnen vijf dagen bekend. Kimbler zegt dat hij bijna onderuit ging toen hij de uitkomsten zag. De verhoudingen weken af en zoals hij het brengt zijn er slechts twee antwoorden om de resultaten te verklaren: “Of het lab maakte een analytische fout, of het materiaal is niet van deze aarde.”

Magnesium isotopenopdelinggrafiek aangepast aan de grafiek die werd gebruikt door Dr. Peter Sturrock bij zijn analyse van het Ubatuba UFO-fragment. Magnesiumhoudende samenstellingen, metalen en mineralen horen allemaal zeer dicht bij de lijn te liggen. Een chondriet is een soort meteoriet en omdat het niet van de aarde afkomstig is ligt het niet op de lijn. De Roswell AH-1 legering ligt zelfs een heel eind van de lijn af. De AH-1 curve is een anomalie die of een analytische fout is, of het materiaal is niet van de aarde. Meer testen zijn nodig om de gegevens te verifiëren om te zien of het een fout is of dat het niet van de aarde afkomstig is. (Afb: Frank Kimbler)

Kimbler’s werk is echter niet klaar. Hij zegt: “Volgens het protocol van de goede wetenschappelijke methode is één set gegevens niet voldoende.” Om aan te tonen dat het lab geen fout heeft gemaakt moet er meer werk gedaan worden. Hij zegt dat hij nog twee gecertificeerde laboratoria heeft die meer isotopentesten kunnen doen om het werk dat tot nu toe is gedaan te bevestigen en dat hij dat werk mogelijk in de komende weken laat doen. Kimbler zegt dat om te bevestigen dat het materiaal niet van de aarde is, het noodzakelijk is dat twee of drie laboratoria met dezelfde resultaten komen.

Een ander belangrijk aspect van het materiaal is dat het aluminium is, en een niet-aardse oorsprong toont, en aluminium moet vervaardigd worden. Anders dan enkele natuurlijke elementen, zoals goud en zilver dat in een ruwe vorm gevonden kan worden als klompjes, wordt aluminium niet in de natuur gevonden. Als wordt bewezen dat dit materiaal niet van de aarde afkomstig is, dan betekent dat, dat dit iets is dat ergens anders werd vervaardigd. Tot nu toe vervaardigt de mens nog niets in de ruimte, laat staan dat er iets uit de lucht valt en landt buiten Roswell op een locatie waarvan wordt beweerd dat er in 1947 een ruimteschip werd gevonden.

Kimbler zegt dat hij heel voorzichtig is met het doen van definitieve beweringen, maar hij is ‘hoopvol’. Hij zegt dat gecertificeerde laboratoria normaal gesproken geen fouten maken en dat de mensen die het werk deden behoren tot de besten op dat gebied.

De gevolgtrekkingen zijn natuurlijk opzienbarend als blijkt dat het materiaal van buitenaardse herkomst en makelij is. Kan hij in het bezit zijn van de smoking gun die bewijst dat we werden bezocht door een intelligente beschaving van een andere planeet en dat zij in 1947 in de buurt van Roswell crashten? Kimbler zegt dat hij ons op de hoogte zal houden en hij was zo hoffelijk om ons de foto’s van het materiaal en de gegevens van de analyse te verschaffen.

Many states might shy away from immortalizing its UFO history. But the State of New Hampshire is known for its fiercely independent people and its “live free or die” motto. On July 20, 2011, it erected a historical marker to commemorate the September 19-20, 1961 close encounter and “lost” time of Portsmouth residents Betty and Barney Hill. The marker is located next to the highway in front of Cabin # 20 at the Indian Head Resort in North Lincoln and across the street from the granite stone face called Indian Head.

Several years ago, Mike Stevens, a Farmington, NH, man circulated a petition to request a marker to commemorate Betty and Barney Hills’ UFO experience. The State of NH Division of Historical Resources, Department of Cultural Resources advised him that a formal request would be required. I, as the Hills’ niece and trustee of Betty’s estate, then worked with the state over the next 3-4 years to complete the process. Employees at the Department of Cultural Resources called upon me to suggest appropriate text for the marker—a challenge in and of itself. Every statement had to be footnoted and supported by ample evidence that it was true and accurate. In all, the wording for the 12 line plaque had 20 footnotes and 28 sources listed in its bibliography.

The final wording approved by the state agency reads as follows:

On the night of September 19-20, 1961, Portsmouth, NH couple Betty and Barney Hill experienced a close encounter with an unidentified flying object and two hours of “lost” time while driving south on Rte 3 near Lincoln. They filed an official Air Force Project Blue Book report of a brightly-lit cigar-shaped craft the next day, but were not public with their story until it was leaked in the Boston Traveler in 1965. This was the first widely-reported UFO abduction report in the United States.

They didn’t accept my first draft. I had stated that the Hills were prominent members of the community and supported it with evidence that Betty and Barney were active in community affairs. They helped organize the Rockingham County Community Action Program and Barney was chairman of the Board of Directors. In 1965, Barney was appointed to the NH State Advisory Committee to the U.S. Civil Rights Commission. Barney was legal redress officer for the local chapter of the NAACP and served on the regional board. They promoted literacy throughout the state and worked on Lyndon Johnson’s presidential campaign. I accompanied Betty and Barney to his inauguration in January 1965. We were invited guests.

I had also added that the Hills’ experience generated interest in the scientific community because J. Allen Hynek, James McDonald, Carl Sagan, David Saunders, Leo Sprinkle, Stanton Friedman and others looked into the case. But that text didn’t make the final cut either. I am, however, very pleased with the text that the D.O.C.R. eventually approved. The marker is beautiful.

The decision to place the marker by Indian Head was a difficult one to make. Five locations were initially considered. The Mt. Cleveland picnic area, south of the Town of Twin Mountain was the Hills’ first stop. It gave Betty the opportunity to view through binoculars the star like object that had sparked her curiosity fifteen miles north. She watched as it traveled across the face of the moon flashing multi-colored lights. By the time she handed the binoculars to Barney, the object had changed course, and shortly thereafter, rapidly descended in their direction.

My next suggestion was the Old Man of the Mountain historical site in Franconia Notch, the Hills’ second stop. The Hills stated that as they motored past the Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway just north of the Old Man, Betty noticed that the lights on a structure at the top of the mountain blinked out as the craft passed over it. It then rounded the mountain and hovered motionless in the sky, except for its rotation, beside the Old Man’s 48 foot profile. It was at least 1 ½ times the length of the natural granite formation from chin to forehead. It appeared cigar shaped because they were observing a lighted row of windows. Within moments, the silent craft rapidly changed direction and ascended and descended in a stair step pattern.

Indian Head was my next suggestion. Located near Franconia Notch’s the south entrance, the resort offers ample parking space and was a prominent landmark along the Hills’ journey south.

In regressive hypnosis with Dr. Benjamin Simon, Betty stated, “We went past the Flume, somewhere between the Flume and Indian Head or……..it was just beyond the Flume or just beyond Indian Head. There was a motel and it was like cabins, these small neat looking cabins. The sign itself wasn’t lighted, but there was one cabin on the end that had a light on, and there was a man standing in the door. And I saw this and I thought, “If I want to I can get out of this whole situation right now. All we’ve got to do is drive in here and this object will go away, and that will be the end of it.” But they didn’t stop.

Only a mile south of Indian Head and almost directly in their path, the couple encountered a huge flattened circular disc with a row of intense blue-white lighted windows along its forward edge. Barney rapidly brought the car to a halt in the middle of the road and grabbed his binoculars for a closer look, opening the car door for a less encumbered view. The silent hovering object descended to an estimated eighty to a hundred feet above their vehicle. It had ceased rotating. Rapidly, in an arc like movement, it shifted from its location directly ahead, and rested above the tree tops in an adjacent field. Barney pocketed his handgun and walked toward it. The silent enigmatic craft was huge; maybe sixty to eighty feet in diameter. As he approached it, two red lights at the end of fin-like structures parted from the sides of the craft, and it tilted toward Barney.

Lifting his binoculars to his eyes, he spied a group of “strangely not human” figures moving about with what he described as “the precision of German officers.” As the craft tilted downward and began to descend toward him, one of these strange creatures, who remained at the window, communicated a frightening message. Barney had the immediate impression that he was in danger of being plucked from the field. Overcome with fear and with all of the courage that he could muster, he tore the binoculars from his eyes and raced back to the car. Breathless, trembling, and in near hysterics, he told Betty that they needed to get out of there or they were going to be captured.

The close encounter field would have been my number one choice for the marker but Interstate Highway 93 now passes through it, with entrance and exit ramps to Route 3. At the height of the tourist season, it would have presented a traffic flow problem. The Notch Express, a convenience store and gas station near the ramp is a place of interest. Its walls are lined with UFO photos and memorabilia and UFO related video is constantly playing on a monitor by the checkout counter.

The fifth location that we considered was the abduction site on Mill Brook Road in Thornton. We almost immediately rejected that notion because it is located off the highway in a new housing development. In 1961, Betty and Barney found themselves on the then deserted logging road where they encountered a roadblock by non-human entities. They reported that they were forced aboard a landed disk and subjected to unearthly physical examinations before they were released. After years of searching, they located the landing site on Labor Day Weekend in 1965.

We made the final decision that Indian Head was the best overall location for the historical marker. Over the past 50 years, the Indian Head Resort has grown into a large modern facility with motel rooms, a function hall, business center, restaurant and lounge, and swimming pools. This year it will host a 50th anniversary celebration of the Hills’ UFO experience on September 23-25. There will be a memorial marker dedication and many additional activities. I will be on hand to give a guided tour along the close encounter route and a new presentation about the Hills’ close encounter and abduction. Het valt mij telkens weer op dat mensen die bezig zijn met de studie van de ufologie, steeds weer zichzelf proberen te verantwoorden tegenover de zogenaamde sceptici. Het is een beetje zoals proberen vertellen aan een eskimo die nog nooit een papegaai heeft gezien, hoe zo een beest eruit ziet. Het is ook een beetje als proberen diezelfde eskimo te overtuigen van het bestaan van zo een beest, terwijl hij koppig verkiest om jou niet te geloven, en sceptisch blijft argumenteren waarom zo een dier niet bestaat, en je vervolgens gaat vertellen wat je dan wèl hebt gezien, of hoe het mogelijk is dat jouw ogen iets hebben waargenomen dat er helemaal niet kon zijn, of dat er tenminste zeker niet zo uitzag, zoals jij blijft beweren dat het was.

 Je kan tegen die eskimo argumenteren tot jullie beiden geen woorden meer overhouden, maar hij zal blijven jouw weten onderuit halen, enkel en alleen omdat hij kiest iets niet te “ geloven “ wat hijzelf niet met zijn eigen ogen heeft gezien.Welles-nietes, welles-nietes, welles-nietes, welles-nietes, welles-

Juist, dat heeft geen enkele zin. Jij weet immers wat je gezien hebt. Je weet dat je helder en duidelijk waargenomen hebt, toen. (En bovendien weet je dat er nog mensen zijn die ditzelfde dier wel degelijk ook kunnen beschrijven, omdat ze het ook al hebben gezien. Al doet dit niets terzake, als het gaat om de bewijskracht van je eigen ervaring voor jezelf..)

De eskimo, die star blijft volhouden dat wat jij vertelt niet kan kloppen, omdat hij het zelf nooit ervaren heeft, zal je met jouw getuigenis nooit kunnen overtuigen. Om het even wat je zegt. Integendeel. Het is zelfs zo dat hij zal proberen om jou te overtuigen van wat hij denkt : nl. dat de papegaai niet bestaat, en dat je het in het beste geval gewoon fout geïnterpreteerd hebt. Vervolgens, als je hem niet wil “ geloven “, zal hij jou en je argumentatie volledig belachelijk proberen maken, zodat er van jou niet veel meer overblijft, als je niet heel sterk in je schoenen staat.

Mijn vraag is hier : waarom is er een drang, bij vele UFO-ervarenen, om zich tegenover de sceptici te verdedigen ? Waarom is er een behoefte, kennelijk, bij vele UFO-ervarenen om de discussie aan te gaan met de sceptici, en om te pogen te bewijzen dat de UFO ervaring ( zij het van op afstand, zij het van dichtbij, of nog andere) die zij hebben gehad, wel degelijk echt dat was, een UFO-ervaring ?

Laat ons - de mensen die wel UFO-ervaringen hebben gehad, en die bijgevolg het bestaan ervan niet kunnen loochenen - ophouden met de sceptici serieus te nemen als gesprekspartners. Laat hen in hun waarde, en in hun eigen ( beperkte ) overtuiging en begrip van de wereld zoals die door hen wordt ervaren.

Zij hebben recht op hun scepsis, op hun mening. De vrijheid van meningsuiting geldt voor ieder, ook voor hen. Maar, dat wil niet zeggen dat die mening overeenstemt met de werkelijkheid zoals ze is. Een mening is slechts een mening, niets meer dan dat. Het is niet de absolute waarheid, en het is geen veto.

We kunnen van de werkelijkheid slechts datgene werkelijk weten, wat we zelf hebben ervaren. Voor ons is dat een werkelijkheid waarin het UFO-fenomeen zijn plaats heeft, omdat we het ervaren hebben op één of andere manier. Wat we hebben ervaren hoeven we niet te ontkennen.

Wat we hebben ervaren hoeft ook niet bewezen te worden. Het bewijst nl. zichzelf, eenvoudigweg door er te zijn. Wat is, is. Het hoeft niet bewezen te worden om te mogen bestaan, het bestaat nl. al, want wij hebben het bestaan ervan ervaren/gezien.

Het bewijst zichzelf voor ons, door te bestaan.

 Laten we naar de sceptici toe eerder een milde houding aannemen. Niet verontschuldigend, maar enkel mild. Zoals we hebben naar kleine kinderen toe, die zich vergissen, omdat ze leren, omdat ze ervaring missen. Wat je niet hebt ervaren, kan je immers niet kennen.

Ik roep hier niet op tot arrogantie. Dat zou ons verlagen. We hoeven niet arrogant te worden omdat we weten. Kennis mag verrijken, mag breeddenkend maken, en zal dan tot begrip kunnen leiden.

Het is onze verdienste niet dat we het UFO-fenomeen van nabij hebben mogen ervaren. En dus is het ook niet iets om trots over te gaan doen. Maar het is zeker ook niets om gebukt onder te gaan, of om ons voor te verontschuldigen. Het is iets wat we een plaats dienen te geven. Mild voor onszelf, en eventueel wel met nieuwsgierigheid naar de betekenis of de aard van de diverse UFO-fenomenen.

Laten we vooral sterk zijn in zelfkennis, zelfbewust en bewust van wat we weten. En laat ons vooral onthouden : wat is, is! En dat geldt ook voor de fenomenen die tot het studiegebied van de ufologie behoren.

The purpose of these files is to report the UFO eyewitness and photo/video evidence that occurs on a daily basis around the world and in space. These Files assume that extraterrestrial intelligent life not only exists, but my hypothesis is that the over a thousand UFOs reported each month represent technologically advanced spacecraft conducting surveillance of Earth. I personally became interested in UFOs when London Control ordered me to intercept one over England while flying for the US Air Force. Under Project Blue Book, the US Air Force investigated UFOs for more than twenty years; and we continue this research. I believe the God of the universe has spread life throughout the cosmos and UFO's are visiting us in ever-increasing numbers.

Mars Stadium and River

The High-Resolution Stereo Camera (HRSC) on board European Space Agency's Mars Express has returned images of Echus Chasma, one of the largest water source regions on the Red Planet. Echus Chasma is the source region of Kasei Valles which extends 3000 km to the north. This image from ESA shows self leveling fluid in evidence here that shows flowing liquid and a real transparency factor. This transpararncy rules out lava flow carving out these deep canons and is obviously very suggestive of water flow. The greener area below suggests plant life. Chief of Staff of Japan's Air Self Defense Force stated, "Much evidence tells us UFOs have been tracked by radar; so, UFOs are real and they may come from outer space. Last Space Shuttle Heading Home

The last shuttle mission departed the International Space Station on Tuesday, and is expected to land on Thursday bringing and end to our shuttle flights. The flights cost about a billion dollars each and being stopped.

The Atlantis Shuttle Commander Chris Ferguson said during a farewell ceremony said, Boeing, or SpaceX, or Blue Origin -- any one of a number of companies working on commercial space taxis will be the next American space craft to reach the ISS. Speculation continues that the military has its own shuttle.

FBI Document Claims Alien Craft Crashed

A few weeks ago you published a Filer's Files with a link to the British press about some newly de-classified FBI UFO documents. One in particular was stunning (attached). It's a March 1950 memo to FBI Director (Hoover). I searched their website ( www.fbi.gov ) and found it at:

It's document #34 on that page, so it's official. I've been following this stuff for a long time and read hundreds of FOIA/UFO documents, but have never seen anything like this. It basically states we're in possession of (at least) 3 flying discs and 9 dead 'pilots' (ie. aliens).

It also says they didn't crash by accident--they were shot down by high-intensity radar. I find it interesting this made the British news, but haven't heard a word about it in the American media. Keep Looking Up, Mark McIntyre

First Crop Circle of the Season Appears Near Silbury Hill.

The unseasonably warm spring weather has sparked the usual round of crop circles. The extraordinary floral creation is comprised of six interlocking 'petal' like crescents. An elaborate 100 foot circle which appeared overnight has caused a stir after it was found in a field of oil seed rape near Silbury Hill, Wiltshire.

The ancient site, the tallest prehistoric man-made mound in Europe, is considered a hot spot for the bizarre phenomena and this new design proves the crop circle season is now under way. A field of bright yellow oil seed rape has been transformed by a huge, floral crop circle. Expert Lucy Pringle, widely known as an international authority on crop circles, believes this is the first 'proper' design of the year. She added: ' The start of the season is always exciting; I never know what's going to happen for the rest of the year.'The latest circle is a floral pattern; I've never seen this before. There's never been one identical to another.'

She says her findings suggest there are measured changes in human hormones and brain activity following contact with the circles. The new 'floral' design is the latest in a long line of patterns to be spotted in the UK over the years. California Revolving Object and Disc

Apple Valley -- I went outside with my friend to retrieve something out of the car about 9:35 pm, on July 12, 2011, and saw a police helicopter for a brief second. It appeared to be rather large, unknown exact shape, bright off white light(s), with a distinctive red light(s) underneath. It seemed as if the object was revolving slowly but still remaining in the same area. We kept staring at this object as it started to fade away and disappear like it was not in any way humanly operated. This ordeal probably lasted only for 2 to 3 minutes as my hair stood on end and I ran back in my house. This is the second up close sighting I've seen in the past month. Thanks to MUFON CMS

COARSEGOLD --We were on a family trip driving up to the mountains on July 13, 2011, at 12:57 PM, as I was taking photos along the way with my cell phone when I saw this disc. It was hovering back and forth in a cloud. There were two adults and three children on the trip. I snapped a clear photo of it and turned around to deal with fussy kids in the back seat for a moment. When I turned around to take more pictures the disc was gone. It looked bigger than a car and had a round disc like shape and the color was shiny silver/gray.

Colorado Orange Orb

Grand Junction -- On July 3, 2011, at 9:13 PM, A large orange fire like orb flew over our house in far Western Colorado. It traveled southwest in an unchanging flight path. It traveled at a fairly good rate of speed. By the time we could get the camera out to snap a picture it was almost out of sight. The camera only picked up a small orange orb. Connecticut Four Yellow/Orange Light s

WATERBURY -- After watching the fireworks at Municipal Stadium on July 4, 2011, which ended about 10 pm, I had gone inside our home and my husband had stayed outside. At about 11 PM, he came inside and said, " See what is in the sky. I went outside and we watched four things in the sky above. They were moving very slowly in a formation with one in front, two on the outside and one in back. They were yellow/orange color. I went inside to get our camera and my husband hollered - three disappeared just like that and as I got outside the last one was almost gone. We never saw anything like this before. Delaware UFO near Chemtrails

Around noon on the 23rd of December, 2010, I noticed parallel vapor contrails (or chemical) trails over my house. I took photos from my rear yard as well as from the rear deck of my home. It wasn't until I pulled the photos into Photoshop to create a pano shot from several photos that I noticed a shiny object in one of the photos. I zoomed in on what appears to be a double sphere shaped object. It left no contrail like all the other planes. I don't get a lot of air traffic over my home and have a difficult time explaining 20 contrails running perfectly parallel to each other.

Florida Weird Objects

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER -- We are vacationing in New Smyrna Beach, Florida and we've seen the same object on July 12, 2011, in the sky three nights in a row. My wife was the first to notice it and remarked it looks like one of those UFO photos. As it appeared to our eyesight, it was extremely high up, at least 10-15,000 feet. It was, from our vantage point possibly near or over Kennedy Space Center. Our impression was simply an object which was changing colors rapidly. My two daughters felt something solid behind the object that was obscured by a large light which changed from green to bright white to a reddish color. Keep in mind we're amateurs at best and the object was incredibly high up but the camera managed to catch two great shots, one from each night. It remained completely stationary the entire time before disappearing behind clouds the entirely gone. In particular the second photo from July 13th is amazing when zoomed in! Illinois Triangle

Hanover Park -- One night I couldn't sleep. So I decided to sit on my sofa in my living room and just stare outside on July 8, 2011, at 12:18 AM from my 3rd level apartment. After a few years of living in this area I never saw any "strange" lights that glowed like phosphorus. I saw three lights outside my window of an unknown aircraft that I had ever seen. It is very rare that glowing lights like those would get my attention. Usually I could hear an airplane's Doppler Effect sound, but on this particular aircraft not a single sound was made. What was even odder about this aircraft was that it had three lights surrounding it with a VERY bright light in the center. And something that shocked me was that the craft was darker than the night sky. I mean there is pitch black, but the aircraft was very dark to the point where I could see its triangular details. It hovered slowly heading north. It was indeed a UFO, as I looked through my curtains and saw that it was still heading north at about 10 to 20 mph and disappeared. 40.6331249 N 89.3985283W -- Horseshoe shaped pulsating craft that remained stationary above clouds as the ISS did a flyby. I was able to capture a screen shot of object. Michigan Orb

Dorr -- One of my neighbors and I were walking after a bonfire about ten miles south of Grand Rapids on July 9, 2011, at 10 PM to Midnight. In our conversation with that neighbor there was mention of them seeing a UFO which we kind of laughed off. We walked back to my neighbor's house were the bonfire was, I noticed an orange light to the north of Dorr high in the sky. It flew in a circle and hard to describe. It went back up into the clouds, but just before it did I took a picture. My camera phone doesn't work well for distant pictures so it only shows about a little orangey speck. So it went into the clouds and disappeared. We went back to chatting about stuff around the bonfire and then it appeared in the same area and did the same thing as it did the first time. That is my story and I am hoping someone else got a glimpse of it and can say they saw something from a different perspective and maybe clarify it.

Note: The weather observation for nearby Holland, Michigan showed that skies were clear at the time of the sighting. The witness implied that skies were cloudy. Minnesota Disc

Ranier -- I was with some friends, we were hanging out at her house on the lake when this disc of lights suddenly appeared. It hovered for several minutes and then was gone. I didn't hear any sounds as it was super quiet. We all just were in shock and a bit freaked out, but amazed that it was SO close. I happened to have my phone and was quick to snap just one picture. It seemed like it was almost right over the top of us... and it moved some but not much. It turned in a circle motion as it went up into never never land. This is not the first time I have seen this around this area, but this is the first time I was able to get a picture and the first time it was so close. My first sighting of this was further up Rainy Lake. I also know of others that have seen them around. Thanks to MUFON CMS

Montana Rectangle

Billings/Laurel -- After entering the interstate I-90 heading towards Laurel, I and my passenger saw a stationary white rectangle in the sky on July 16, 2011. The rectangular white object was hovering with flashing lights and disappears at midday. It was flying over towards the Rims Area. It seemed to remain stationary and I was able to watch it until we took the first Laurel exit as the object flashed with several round lights across the front. It then turned black, then back again to white. I lost visual as we got past the railroad to Walmart.

New Jersey Something Triangular

Glassboro -- Lewis Beaver saw "something triangular" on Monday June 20, 2011, about 7:45 pm; as the sun was about to set under the large awning of the store I work at. I noticed first a "glare" in the sky from the angle I saw it, it could have been between Philadelphia and West Deptford, New Jersey.

At first the setting sun was gleaming off it, then a second glare and finally a third in a triangular form of a significant size. They were dull in color, but VERY visible. There was three dark gray to silver, circular, "balls," just sitting in front of the grey cloud in the form of a perfect triangle. I couldn't see if there was mass in between the shapes, but it was definitely there. I tried to take pictures, but it was down to one again and was gone before I could get the camera on as the grayish balls disappeared. The time between the first glare and it completely disappearing was about 3-5 minutes. Thanks to Lou Beaver

Mt. Holly -- I should have reported this a long time ago. The details of what my sister and I witnessed are not as clear today as it was about 6 years ago during the winter of 2005. Here's what we saw: We were driving home from a friend's house at 2 AM on Garden Street. My sister yelled, "Oh my god! Look!" It wasn't moving at all and we heard no noise as it hovered. It was three or four football fields above the ground. It looked to be above Upper Lake and was metallic, bulky and irregular shaped, like a crumples piece of metal or something. The metal itself had a jigsaw puzzle type of design to it and the bottom looked like it had lights on it that shined up at its underbelly, lighting the up bottom. New Jersey New York Skyline

My Name's Mark I live in New Jersey and I submit allot of pictures to Thanks to MUFON CMS, via the "Wired NY Web Cams" page. I have captured UFO's and USO's or ufos that are on the River. Not to mention the Large UFOs in the sky that appears in all these shots. This page refreshes every 30 seconds. How do planes and helicopters appear over NYC in crazy patterns every 30 seconds? How do boats change shape and colors every 30 seconds? Well, they don't they have advanced technology. If you look where NYC WEB CAM #3 is pointing you would have seen one hell of a show! SEA ISLE CITY -- Watching the fireworks on the beach on July 4, 2011, we spotted six or seven orbs traveling in formation offshore traveling east past the fireworks we were watching. Hundreds of people witnessed them. They flew out over the Atlantic Ocean and slowly disappeared. These were definitely were not planes. There were a lot of reports of orange orbs on July 4, 2011. New York Yellow Ball

WATKINS GLEN -- On July 13, 2011, at 9:40 PM, while driving in upstate New York, a very capable woman witnesses a stationary yellow ball of light. She stopped her car, in order to get a better look at the object, as it began to ascend into the nighttime sky. She witnessed eight similar looking objects. The cigar shaped UFO the boater thought she saw was a blimp hangar! The distance to the hangar, plus mirage type convention from the surface in between, gave a reflective quality to the landscape, creating a reflected image below the actual hangar. Pennsylvania Bright Red Object

Pottsville -- Martha Scott and I went to the Haven Fireworks at the Old Irish Flats Island at 9 PM, on July 13, 2011. After the fireworks we were walking to the parking lot and saw something bright red and traveling almost over our heads. My first thought was fireworks; but there was no sound. My camcorder did not reveal any details as it was hard to keep steady without a tripod. Freeze frame reveals an oval bright object. I watched it for about ten minutes and noticed that it was heading towards the space like a rocket. This object accelerated from 1 mile up to invisible in 20 seconds right out of our atmosphere. Perhaps it was fireworks that attracted these ships?

There were groups of people standing in the parking lot by their cars had no idea this thing was even there till I yelled, " Hey that's a UFO up there" . Then they looked up and because it made no noise two of them said: "What is that thing" This object had a red glow and no navigation lights or sound. Texas Shooting Star and Orb

Atascosita -- I went outside to let my dog use the toilet at 10:43 PM, and noticed the bright moon and saw a shooting star that the shooting star stopped. It changed direction and shot off into the distance. I noticed my cell phone screen had a scattered digital look. I had to take the battery out and it went back to normal!! Scared the crap out of me. San Antonio -- I saw a round shaped object that was slowly moving north on July 18, 2011, between 4 and 5 PM. The sunlight reflected off of the surface between 5-7 feet in length. The object was about 400 meters high and gained altitude slowly as it passed over. There are two other objects in photos that were not seen by visual observation. Virginia Object near the Sun

Virginia Beach -- On July 16, 2011 around 1:15 pm, I went outside in our yard to take pictures of the Sun. I shot some video and took a few pictures consecutively, but on different settings. I then uploaded the pictures and noticed lens pentagon and hexagon shapes around the Sun in, various colors, beautiful but nothing unusual. After taking a second look at my own pictures, I noticed this object to the middle left of the Sun. It was small, but in reality was the size of our moon. It was gray, round and very noticeable. The reflections in the first set of pictures were very distinguishable and had no mass; however the "ufo" in question had solid mass. This could be anything from a craft to a planet. Washington Bright Lights

EVERETT -- Last evening on July 13, 2011, we had an odd weather with a dark cloud base and rain and half clear and sunny. The rain was moving to the east after 6 PM, when I noticed a very, very bright light moving slowly north. The cloud ceiling was low and the UFO was moving just under them. I watched it for a full 20 minutes it then stopped, and then disappeared. I've been in aerospace/aircraft manufacturing for 37 years and am familiar with just about every type of craft.

A quick estimate of the distance across the field, from first sight to last is about 300 feet. So, no fixed wing craft can travel that slowly and if it were a helicopter, it would have had to hover and side slip with a powerful light on the nose. No noise was heard from the three to four foot in diameter object. Ten minutes it blinked out as two Navy jets from Whidbey flew over, so "someone" else knew it was there! Yakima -- This video was filmed by my husband on July 10, 2011 at 11:30 PM. We were out overlooking the city when suddenly a "star" rose above the city. It was white at first, and then it stopped moving and started changing colors. We filmed it for quite some time before we decided to turn in for the night which was around 2 am. When we left, it was still there, spinning.

Washington Streaking Lights

Manastash Ridge -- I have attached a photo of what I believe to be a UFO captured at around 1:45 AM on July 3, 2011. Over the last several nights, my husband and I have been seeing several high flying UFOs about 10 PM. We decided to go to Manastash Ridge in Ellensburg to get a better look at the sky. There is a military base between Yakima and Ellensburg so we felt our chances of seeing a UFO were very good because there are many sightings around military bases.

We arrived at the ridge around midnight and left at 3 AM. We saw 13 shooting stars, and nine "high flyer" UFOs which looked like stars streaking across the sky. We brought our camera, a large telescope and binoculars and compared one star, planet or UFO to other things in the sky to make sure we knew what we were actually looking at. We decided to focus on two "stars" that were changing colors dramatically.

Between 1:30 and 2:00 AM, we noticed a light rising from behind a mountain ridge which was set back from Ellensburg. It caught our attention because it was extremely low in the sky and changed very vibrant colors.

Note: A check of astronomical data revealed that no planets were visible at the time of the sighting. Given this scenario it doesn't suggest that the object was associated with military activities. Thanks to William Puckett Director UFOs Northwest http://ufosnw.com

Worldwide UFO Reports

Australia Silver Disc

My name is David Albert Smith; and in the 1960's I was working on top of Mount Tom Price in Northwestern Australia, when one of the guys said, "Look at that! I turned to see a silver object twenty foot long and ten feet deep. It was motionless and within a couple of minutes half the camp was up there looking at it. There were no markings on this object, no windows, no doors, nothing at all. I jumped into my Land Rover and got my camera as did almost every one. I got back to the top of the mountain and the object was still there and I took photos of it until I ran out of film. After a while it started to move slowly. Then it spiraled slowly past our camp staying three feet above the ground. I was following it in my Land Rover and a lot of other vehicles were following. If a vehicle speeded up to overtake the object, it speeded up so no one could get in front of it.

It flew around Nameless Mountain and out of site. When we arrived at the same spot it started to move forward again heading towards the Hamersly Ranges. It was not a balloon and was situated at the end of our only air strip. If we got close to it; the craft would not let any vehicle get too close to the rear of it. If we got close it would go faster. At the end of the air strip it suddenly went straight up in the airside ways, so fast that within perhaps two seconds it vanished.

The management made enquiries with the Australian Air Force, and they denied having anything on their radar and they said no. There were no facilities at Mount Tom Price to get film processed, and about two weeks later four black F250's came into Tom Price, with a film development unit. They said they would develop all the films we had at no cost, if they could have copies of the film, it sounded like a good deal so 100% every one took all their films in for development. Three days later when I got my film back there was no UFOs in them.

A couple weeks later, a dozen students arrived from Perth University were asking questions and I told them the craft was out of sight for five minutes. We decided to go to Mount Nameless where it was out of sight and found three round indentations in the ground that formed the shape off a triangle. Each indentation was three feet across and three inches deep. The students had large bags of Plaster of Paris with them, and made molds off each one and returned to Perth University. Azores; Portugal Disc

Praia da Vitoria, Terceira -- Disk shape and sphere shape objects near US military base in the Atlantic Ocean. I am an amateur photographer and usually after dinner when the sun is going down, I go out and take some pictures. It was about 7:30 PM, when I started taking photos. When I finished my sessions, I edited my photos in Photoshop raw format to help obtain more of data from the photo. The object appears above the Sun as a disk shape, doesn't look like a cloud or bird. Below that same object there is another one, a sphere shape object also unidentified; there is a possibility that this second one might be a weather balloon. Ignace, Ontario -- I heard no noise on July 17, 2011 at 11 PM, as two orbs hovered in the sky over Agimak Lake in Ignace, Ontario, a hundred miles north of the US border. SYDNEY, NS -- On July 17, 2011, I came home from work and noticed an orange light flying at low altitude below the clouds. It was moving rather slowly. I took a video of it. At the very beginning of the video you will see the full moon, which gives you a reference to how bright this unknown light was. It didn't make any noise. The light began to fade shortly after I started filming it, but I got about a minute of it on film. Earlier in the day I noticed a similar light in the same area. Thanks to MUFON CMS

Haiti Dark Flying Object

Port-au-Prince -- I was walking through the cemetery taking photos of damage from the Earthquake on November 29, 2010. I took a short series of photos and when I looked through them later there was an abnormal object in two photos. The object doesn't line up with any know flight pattern of airplanes in the country. Germany Multiple Sightings

Buesum -- On July 9, 2011, I had my latest sighting of a UFO. I had a series over the last couple of years. It was April 22, 2011, at 12.15 hours, shortly after midday, an object suddenly appeared in the sky to the west at 2500 feet altitude. It was rectangular in shape, black and had what seemed to be a large white ball, or blob' at the left side. The only sound was very faint.

I rushed for my binoculars, and even though taking only about 30 seconds I was too late as the object had disappeared just as quickly as it had arrived. The very same day at 22.45 hours a very large bright white light suddenly appeared, and at the very spot I had last witnessed the object. I quickly had my binoculars trained on the light and it came east in my direction. I was unable to detect any shape due to the power of the bright light. It changed direction going southeast, but only a short distance before ascending diagonally and disappearing totally. The next phase of my report is a star slightly to the east suddenly juddered', or vibrated, just as when an engine is switched on, and then scurried rapidly across the sky going southwest on July 1, 2011, at 00.33 hours. Another star' came into my sight travelling southeast.

The latest sighting was on July 9, 2011 at 23.15 hours a red light dropped into the airspace from nowhere, became a large, bright orange light. I got my binoculars and shouted to my wife to take a photo as I joined my wife on the balcony, and at one point we were directly underneath it, and as it was not travelling speedily but the photos did not show the orange large and bright, but on the camera; there was nothing.

These sightings are only the latest going back over a lot of years, especially since January 1998 when living in Hagen, Germany. Mr. John Stewart Patchett

Iran Winking Object

Tabriz -- I saw winking object that was flying rapidly from east on July 16, 2011, at 10:23 PM, which seemed as if it is orbiting the earth. The light of that was switching from red to silver alternately. It was moving faster than I could keep track of within a short time. It moved south to east in 20 seconds and when it reached the east the light started to fade. Can it be something like an airplane or it's an UFO. South Africa UFO

Fishhoek -- On July 17, 2011, around 8 PM, I was looking up at the sky and noticed a bright star moving that was brighter than all the other stars and had a vague little red light with it, like a plane actually. I thought it was a bit high for a plane in that area as I am in Fishhoek on the peninsula. If planes come around there they are too low to land and banking around. It was too bright to be a satellite and being accompanied vaguely by the red glow.

So I deduced it must be a fighter jet and waited for it to pass over, but it stopped abruptly. So I thought it must be a helicopter, but it was way too high, and moving too fast to stop so abruptly. Then it started moving slowly left, slowly right, making slow little circles by now, I thought an UFO. It must have gone straight up, because it suddenly got smaller and faded in less than two seconds and it was gone.

UK/Northern Ireland Disc

Aughnacloy -- We were out in the garden at midnight on July 17, 2011, with three of us in a tent when my friend outside said,"Oh my God there is a UFO! I looked up and a disc was flying slow and high up with a yellow light at the bottom of the craft. We tried to record it, but our phones couldn't capture it, since it was too high up and too dark. UK/Scotland Sighting above Chemical Plant

Cheryl Gardnear Strong report on July 16, 2011, in the UFO News. "A minor chemical leak in St Fergus, Scotland, prompted a passerby to snap a few photos last week, it was only later that the eyewitness noticed something odd in the photos. It was a UFO sighting in hindsight. The UFO appeared in a series of photos over the no flying zone terminal before heading southwest.

UK/England Police Officer Recalls UFO-EBE Encounter

UFOINFO.com -- On July 15 2010 a former police officer only identified as "Nick R reported that while driving along the A10 going home one evening after work a light which was not the moon, orange and oval in shape.

He then drove into his parking space in Puckeridge (near Hertford England) and went into his flat (apartment) after about 10 minutes he went outside for a cigarette.

His apartment was on Cambridge Court which backed on to fields.

He saw in the twilight what he thought were kids messing about. He then saw the orange oval shaped light over the field and quickly realized that the short figures were not "children. Suddenly the three child-like figures and the light disappeared without a trace. The witness lived near Stansted Airport.

1.   VOORWOORD.

Aan de hand van tienduizenden verslagen van mensen, die beweerden dat buitenaardse wezens onze planeet bezoeken en een aantal “uitverkoren” personen aan boord nemen van hun ruimteschip om op hen een aantal medische en voorplantingsexperimenten uit te voeren, komen we in een nieuw raadselachtig item van de ufologie terecht.

Door de “ontvoerde” slachtoffers en sommige onderzoekers zijn dit realistische rapporten, gebaseerd op levensechte ervaringen. Volgens de seculiere wetenschap en de sceptici groeide dit verschijnsel, ondanks  het ongelofelijk karakter van de overtuiging en volgens hen ook bij gebrek aan geloofwaardig, ondersteunend bewijs, snel uit tot een echte mythische cultuur. Als je weet dat volgens een enquête, eind jaren 90’ uitgevoerd in de U.S.A., meer dan 33% van de Amerikanen gelooft dar buitenaardse wezens onze aarde bezoeken in de ufo’s, dan is de echte basis voor een grote discussie gelegd.

Niettemin blijft het een zeer moeilijk te vatten verhaal… - Harige wezens; humanoïde, mensachtige ufonauten of de algemeen bekende grijze wezens – de Greys - met grote, zwarte ogen bezoeken onze planeet in hun “vliegende schotels”. Het is een vaststaand feit dat actueel ufologen al duizenden goed gedocumenteerde, gedetailleerde verslagen verzamelden over ufo’s, die op Aarde landen, waaruit “inzittenden” stappen en terug in verdwenen. Meer en  meer handelen deze rapporten over mensen, die beweren door deze aliëns één of zelfs meerdere malen ontvoerd te zijn geweest, aan boord gebracht van het ruimteschip, waar ze onderworpen werden aan een medisch onderzoek, om daarna terug op de plaats van hun ontvoering afgezet te worden. Als je bij deze rapporten de overtuiging voegt van sommige ufologen dat in 1947 in Roswell, New-Mexico, USA een vliegende schotel met buitenaardsen neerstortten en door de Amerikaanse overheid geborgen werd – zowel het toestel als de wezens – wordt het verhaal nog fantastischer, maar daardoor ook ongeloofwaardiger. Er zouden zelfs geheime ontmoetingen plaats hebben gevonden met de buitenaardse wezens op de mysterieuze plaats Area 51…

Dit alles klinkt misschien ook voor jou als een sciencefiction story, maar niettemin blijven vele slachtoffers en onderzoekers overtuigd van de realiteit van deze ontvoeringen. Volgens het wetenschappelijk establishment en de sceptici berust dit “ geloof in ufo’s en buitenaardsen” louter op speculaties, fantasie, bedrog en niet gerechtvaardigde besluitenvorming uit twijfelachtige bewijzen en getuigenissen. En met deze denkwijze over deze ervaringen is de welles-nietes polemiek tussen believers, kritisch onderzoekers en sceptici een feit…

2.   WELKE BESCHRIJVINGEN VAN ALIËNS VINDEN WE ZOAL TERUG?

De beschrijvingen van deze bijzondere ufo-inzittenden of ufonauten variëren nogal en omvatten ook doorzichtige of transparante entiteiten ( soms zelfs met zichtbaar skelet ); grote, logge gloeiende “mannen” met slechts één oog in het midden van hun voorhoofd; vriendelijke “Venusianen” (cf. Adamsky) met lang blond krullend haar; kleine elf-achtige “mensjes”, slechts een paar tientallen centimeter groot. Maar meer dan 4/5 of 80% van de verslagen handelen over de greys of grijze – grijze wezens van 1,20 m à 1,50 m grootte met een groot, kaal hoofd, lange armen en grote schuine, zwarte ogen…

Daar een kleine  20 % van deze typerende beschrijvingen zo  vreemd en zo absurd klinken, ja tot het geloofwaardigheid te verliezen. Slechts een klein aantal, geduldige onderzoekers waagden een inspanning, zetten alle vrees op zij om al deze idolate, maar toch zo verschillende relazen te verzamelen, te analyseren en te bestuderen.

Volgens sommige onderzoekers zijn vooral de kinderen de beste getuigen en vele ufo-landingen zijn dan ook het beste en volledigste gedocumenteerd door verslagen van waarnemingen door kinderen. Ik hoor de sceptici onder jullie al luidop denken dat de hoofdreden hiervan ligt aan de fantasierijke en creatieve verbeelding van de kindergeest, die “onbewust” geïndoctrineerd werd door de sciencefiction  strips, tekenfilms en PC- en andere games. De believers reageren daarop dat het net komt door het maagdelijk, openminded denken van kinderen dat ze het ideaal medium vormen voor contactlegging met ufo’s en met de ufonauten. Vele ufo-ontvoerden bezeren immers dat het eerste contact al plaatsvond in hun prille jeugd – 4 à 5 jaar oud – dat ze door de buitenaardsen een eerste maal ontvoerd werden en later nog voor opvolging.

3.   WIE ZIET ER UFO’S?

Volgens de sceptici zijn het meestal onbetrouwbare en ongeloofwaardige personen, die ufo’s en ufonauten zien. Als je weet dat niet alleen kinderen maar ook politiemensen, dokters, notarissen, advocaten, astronomen, piloten en andere notabele burgers, ja zelfs meerdere astronauten ontmoetingen met ufo’s  en hun inzittenden rapporteren, dan is enige twijfel bij de voorgaande stellingname van de sceptici wel op zijn plaats.

Weet jij wat het woord SCEPSIS betekent? Wel scepsis staat voor TWIJFELZUCHT!  Je mag er van uitgaan dat een fanatieke scepticus onder het mom van de bestaande wetenschap alles in twijfel trekt wat niet in zijn dogmatisch referentiekader past. In het boek “WOORDENBOEK VAN DE SCEPTICUS” van Herman BOEL komen zo’n 400 definities, argumenten en kritische artikels aanbod, gaande can acupunctuur tot zombies. Het is een vertaling van “The Skeptic’s Dictionary” van Robert T. Carroll of waar Abraham zijn mosterd haalde, in dit geval BOEL… Ik heb de indruk dat ze alle ideeën verwerpen  welke niet binnen hun wetenschappelijke controlevisie passen. Maar hoe kan je de getuigen niet vertrouwen als ze over ufo’s en ufonauten praten, terwijl ze in het burgerlijk leven instaan voor jouw veiligheid en verdediging? Hoe kan je hun gerapporteerde ervaringen gewoon negeren en wegcijferen als fantasie of zelfs bedrog?

En ja, over het ufofenomeen werden al duizenden boeken geschreven en toch bestaan er niet zoveel objectieve, kritische en betekenisvolle studies over deze bijzondere ontvoeringgevallen, die door alle partijen aanvaard worden. Kwam het zien van ufo’s en ufonauten – in de volksmond en de media “vliegende schotels en groene marsmannetjes” genoemd – al weinig geloofwaardig en betrouwbaar over bij de media, de seculiere wetenschap en de sceptici, dan moet ik er zeker geen tekening bij maken hoe deze over de specifieke ontvoeringervaringen denken…

4.   HOE KOMT HET DAT DE WETENSCHAP ZO WEINIG BELANGSTELLING TOONT VOOR HET UFOFENOMEEN?

De oorzaak ligt in het feit dat de ufologie nog steeds actief dient te strijden om erkend, om aanvaard te worden als een ernstig studieonderwerp en niet als een lucratieve bezigheidstherapie voor wat amateurs, fantasten en / of aandachtzoekers. De scepticus Paul KURTA schrijft trouwens -  de ufologie is de mythologie van het ruimtevaarttijdperk. In plaats van Engelen en Demonen… hebben wij nu de confrontatie met buitenaardse wezens. De ufologie is een product van de creatieve verbeelding. Ze heeft een poëtische en een existentiële functie. De ufologie is een uitdrukking van een hoger mysterie --- onze hoop op een transcendente betekenis. De goden van de Olympus zijn ruimtereizigers geworden, die ons door on ze dromen naar andere werelden brengen.” Nu zou het niet kunnen dat het verschil in de verhalen over engelen, demonen, trollen, ufonauten, ed. hem enkel verschilt in het referentiekader, waarin het slachtoffer zijn frustrerende en onbekende ervaringen probeert een plaats te geven. Als ik bijvoorbeeld het woord auto gebruik, dan denk jij beslist aan jouw eigen wagen, terwijl aan mijn Opel Astra denk. De ervaring ‘een toestel om je in te verplaatsen’ blijft voor elke persoon hetzelfde, alleen het invullen en beschrijven zal variëren volgens onze eigen leefwereld en eigen referentiekader. Nergens zal je een artikel, een boek of een repliek van een scepticus vinden met opbouwende kritiek over ufologen, of die wat positiefs over ufo’s durft te schrijven. Hun eigen gelijk hebben en betweterij druipt er zo van af.

De specifieke landingsrapporten  en zeker de ufo-ontvoeringrapporten klinken inderdaad zo absurd, zo weinig geloofwaardig, soms zelfs belachelijke en / of idioot, dat je zelfs als objectieve, ernstige en kritisch ingestelde onderzoeker niet staat te springen om de verslagen te bestuderen. Deze vreemde relazen geven de sceptici alle munitie om gans het ufo-verschijnsel als een fabeltje, een fantasie of louter als bedrog voor te stellen. Je kan je dus wel voorstellen dat weinig ufologen staan te springen om dit toch bizar, maar vreemd fenomeen te bestuderen. Ze vrezen dat als ze dit studieonderwerp aanvatten, ze zelf als idioot, onbetrouwbaar en ongeloofwaardig afgeschilderd te worden door de sceptici. De vrees dus om hun eigengeloofwaardigheid en deze van de ufologie in het algemeen op het spel te zetten en nog meer schade te berokkenen, weerhoudt de meeste “ernstige” onderzoekers om dit onderwerp ernstig te onderzoeken en te bestuderen. Ze lieten / laten dit item liever links liggen omdat ze uit ervaring weten op welke slinkse en achterbakse wijze sommige sceptici bepaalde ufologen in de media afmaakten door hen publiek belachelijk te maken of voor PIPO te verslijten.

Niettemin stel ik de laatste decennia en vooral sinds de opkomst van het internetgebruik vast dat meer en meer ufologen en waarnemers nu publiek hun visie durven te geven over dergelijke onderwerpen. Ze hebben lak aan de sceptici en op bepaalde sites, gaan ze hen  op dezelfde wijze behandelen, zoals dat vroeger met hen gebeurde. Vroeger had een onderzoeker de media nodig om zijn vaststellingen of de resultaten van zijn research bekent te maken. De dag van vandaag kan je op verschillende sites en blog  van het internet terecht om jouw mening op een eerlijke manier te verwoorden. Met eerlijk bedoel ik vooral dat vroeger de journalisten hun creatieve vrijheid in het verwoorden van een gesprek durfden te gebruiken en je soms woorden in de mond te leggen, die je nooit uitgesproken had. Door deze ontstane vrijheid van denken en handelen konden meer en meer ufologen rapporten over deze bijzondere landingsgevallen en zelfs over de ufo-ontvoeringgevallen terugvinden en zelfs publiceren op een eigen site. Voorbeelden van dergelijke onderzoekers zijn Budd Hopkins, Dr. John Mack, Dr. Jacob Saunders en nog anderen. Dr. John Mack, een Amerikaanse psychiater, verbonden aan de beroemde Harvard Universiteit, waagde het zelfs om na zijn studie van deze specifieke ervaringen de publieke uitspraak te doen dat deze ontvoeringen levensechte ervaringen zijn.

Geen wonder dat de sceptici en het materialistisch, wetenschappelijk establishment met alle middelen en trucjes probeerden om Dr. Mack in diskrediet te brengen en zelfs probeerden om zijn academische titel en dus financiële steun af te nemen. Gelukkig zijn deze fanatieke betweters daar niet in geslaagd, maar als je de afbrekende kritiek van deze sceptici over Dr. John Mack leest in het vertaalde “Woordenboek voor de scepticus”, dan pas besef je hoe egocentrisch en narcistisch deze personen denken en handelen. Ik vraag me af of de vertaler van de Engelse tekst zelf onderzoek gedaan heeft naar de beweegredenen en de resultaten van John’s studie en verklaringen? Of heeft deze persoon de woorden van de Amerikaanse scepticus gewoon vertaald en als papegaai nagepraat?  Harde woorden vind jij misschien, maar als je in hun artikels, hun commentaren, hun boeken openlijk en koudweg kan lezen, dat John Mack zijn rapporten vrij kon publiceren en iedereen (lees vooral hen!) kon trotseren door zijn academische vrijheid  en onder het recht van de privacy van zijn patiënten en laat het net dat zijn dat ze hem wilden afnemen…

In het “Woordenboek van de Scepticus” van Herman Boel kan je pagina 332 letterlijk lezen – Hij ( =  John Mack) bevond zich in de positie waar elke bedrieger van droomt: liegen zonder ooit gepakt te kunnen worden” Heeft Boel deze tekst letterlijk uit de  Engelse tekst vertaald en overgenomen, dan vraag ik me af of na-aperij ook wetenschappelijk onderzoek is. Je vindt hier dus een verdoken beschuldiging dat Dr. John Mack een leugenaar en een bedrieger was… je kan tolerant, democratisch en vrijdenkend zijn, maar hoe narcistisch en betweterig moet je zijn, dat je dergelijke, negatieve dingen over een persoon durft te schrijven, die zich niet meer kan verdedigen. Als je verder leest dan maken ze John Mack ook uit voor profiteur, die louter uit financieel winstbejag handelde om zijn boeken te verkopen. Kan je uit dergelijke negatieve uitspraken enig objectief, kritisch en wetenschappelijk onderzoek zien? Handelen ze als volwassen onderzoekers, die opbouwende kritiek leveren? Als dat de enige en echte wetenschappelijke methodologie van de scepticus is – sorry, maar bij dergelijke laag bij de grond handelswijze hou ik een bittere smaak aan over. Ik kan daar echt niet de juiste woorden voor vinden, maar je kan je wel afvragen wie in realiteit de echte leugenaars en bedriegers zijn…

De struisvogelpolitiek van het materialistische, seculier wetenschappelijk establishment om in kop blijven in het zand te steken als het over ufo’s en ufonauten gaat en het allemaal beschouwen als een doodgewoon aards gebeuren, is een eenvoudige en veilige denkpiste. Het is gewoon het blijven volharden in eigen boosheid om hun axioma’s, hun stellingen, hun doctrines, ed. veilig te stellen. Volgens de sceptische doctrine zelf verwijst hun algemene houding naar die van twijfel en ter discussie stellen. Meestal verwijst het echter naar twijfel en ongeloof in bovennatuurlijke en paranormale fenomenen. Hun negeren van het bestaan van het ufofenomeen in zijn totaliteit heeft niet tot gevolg gehad dat er geen ufowaarnemingen meer plaatsvonden en geen meldingen meer gebeuren. Integendeel, het ufo-verschijnsel blijft gestadig verder groeien in zijn complexiteit; meer een meer mensen raken overtuigd van de echtheid van ufo’s. Het internet met Google vormt een gepast medium om informatie op te zoeken en tevens ufologen op te zoeken, die willen luisteren naar hun ervaringen zonder deze vooraf als onzin te beschouwen. Het enige wat de getuigen vragen is respect voor hun privacy, de waarneming héél discreet te behandelen, want de wereld, hun omgeving, ja zelfs hun familie en vrienden zijn vaak dermate gebrainwasht door de media en de sceptici dat ze zelfs daar hun verhaal niet kwijt aan raken zonder het gevaar belachelijk gemaakt te worden, of erger… Erg toch, niet, want geloof me vrij al deze slachtoffers zijn geen gekken! Als zelfs de sceptici durven te schrijven dat als deze personen zo geen bizarre verhalen zouden vertellen, ze best geloofwaardig en betrouwbaar zijn, dan weet je dat dat gewone mensen zijn, zoals jij en ik, die dergelijke ervaringen melden. Waarom kunnen deze vreemde ervaringen niet ernstig onderzocht worden? Zelfs als later uit het onderzoek zou blijken dat de ervaringen niet aan ET te wijten is, dan nog werden deze mensen geholpen, niet?

5.   DE REACTIE VAN DE WETENSCHAP?

Het begon allemaal op 24 juni 1947 toen de Amerikaan Kenneth Arnold verklaarde dat hij tijdens zijn vlucht in de buurt van Mount-Rainier negen “vliegende ruimtevaartuigen” in de vorm van een halve maan had zien vliegen in een onregelmatige formatie en tegen ongelofelijke snelheden. Ze deden hem denken aan “schotels, die over het water stuiteren”. Zo werd de naam “vliegende schotels” geboren, die de media gretig overnamen. In een paar weken tijd volgden er in de USA honderden meldingen van mensen, die beweerden dat ze die “vliegende schotels” gezien hadden. Je kan dit het best vergelijken met wat er in 1989/1990 gebeurde in België na de waarneming van een “driehoek” boven Eupen door twee rijkswachters. Deze melding kreeg veel aandacht van de media en na deze melding liepen er bij de Brusselse, Franstalige UFO-groep SOBEPS honderden meldingen binnen… of hoe de media een UFO-flap kunnen in de hand werken.

Het feit dat een hoog percentage waarnemingen van ufo’s en ufonauten (cf. the Greys) in vrij hoge mate overeenstemmen met de standardbeschrijvingen is voor sommige onderzoekers het bewijs dat de waarnemers echte ervaringen meemaakten. De sceptici daarentegen beweren dat de “getuigen” dezelfde dingen zien en beschrijven om geloofwaardig over te komen bij de onderzoekers. Volgens hen is het zeker dat de waarnemers zien wat ze zien om primo te voldoen aan hun eigen verwachtingen, die gebaseerd zijn op de bekende, stereotypes en secundo om dus eveneens te voldoen aan de verwachtingen van de onderzoekers. De sceptici gaan zelfs zover, dat als je het uit dit perspectief bekijkt, je volgens hen de ufowaarnemingen en de buitenaardsen het beste kan vergelijken met het zien van Sinterklaas…

Ik krijg meer en meer de indruk dat de hypocrisie en betweterij bij de fanatieke sceptici  de bovenhand haalt. Voor de “metaalachtige, zilvergrijze” daglichtschotels of de  nachtelijke lichten kan ik hun nog enigszins begrijpen, want de onderzoekers kunnen +/- 90% van alle meldingen verklaren als misinterpretaties van bekende natuurlijke of artificiële objecten, zoals weerballons, vliegtuigen, Thaïse ballons, ed of voor ons nog onbekende natuurfenomenen, zoals bolbliksems, ST.Elmusvuur, aardbevingslichten, plasma’s, ed.

Deze uitleg gaat echter niet meer op voor de “close encounters” en als je over ufonauten, humanoïden of ufo-ontvoeringen spreekt; verkeerde interpretaties gelden niet in deze gevallen. Alle landing- en ontvoeringgevallen als speculaties, fantasie, bedrog en ongegronde gevolgtrekkingen van twijfelachtige bewijzen en getuigenis verklaren, zoals de sceptici en het wetenschappelijk establishment dit doet, is even gek als beweren dat de Amerikanen nooit op de maan landden of dat “zwarte gaten” in de ruimte niet bestaan… Al deze getuigenverhalen negeren, zoals de sceptici doen, is volgens mijn persoonlijke mening te enggeestig; is onderzoek doen met oogkleppen op en zelfs laag bij de grond als je door dit negeren je eigen gelijk probeert te halen. Niettemin dien je als onderzoeker terughoudend en kritisch te zijn in je research naar dergelijke, delicate studieonderwerpen, zolang je objectief en openminded van geest werkt zonder de sceptische oogkleppen op. Er van uit gaan dat alles op aardse wijze te verklaren valt en alle bewijzen en getuigenissen in die optie verdraaien is geen wetenschappelijke methodologie...

De gevolgen van het steeds maar blijven negeren van deze ufo-ervaringen lijkt mij gevaarlijk en het risico bestaat dat je met het badwater ook de baby wegkiept… Is het enkel grootheidswaanzin en narcisme, die verhinderen dat de fanatieke sceptici en de seculiere, materialistische wetenschappers weigeren om het ufofenomeen in al zijn facetten ernstig te nemen? Of is het gewoon onkunde en twijfelzucht over alles en nog wat, dat hun eigen leefwereldje in gevaar kan brengen? Immers voor hen blijft het absoluut onmogelijk en ondenkbaar dat ufo’s en buitenaardsen ons luchtruim zouden kunnen schenden. Ze willen we geloven in het bestaan van intelligent leven in de onbegrensde kosmos, maar neen, die kunnen door die onoverbrugbare afstanden onmogelijk tot bij ons geraken. Maar als je A zegt, moet je ook B durven zeggen… Als je ervan uit gaat dat er nog intelligent leven buiten onze planeet bestaat, dien je er ook rekening mee te houden dat die vroeg of laat – verleden, heden en toekomst – over de mogelijkheid beschikken om onze aarde te bezoeken!

Nee, zij schrijven al die getuigenissen liever toe aan “fantay proned people” of mensen met een rijke , creatieve verbeelding. Maar als die getuigen toch zo’n rijke fantasie bezitten, waarom beschrijven ze dan veelal dezelfde objecten, dezelfde wezens en dezelfde ervaringen?

6.   WAAROM DIEN JE TOCH ALTIJD KRITISCH, OPENMINDED EN OBJECTIEF DERGELIJKE ERVARINGEN TE ONDERZOEKEN?

Ondanks het feit dat dat ik mij vrank en vrij over dit bizar item van het ufofenomeen durf uit te spreken, moet ik objectief gezien toegeven dat ook ik het moeilijk heb om al deze vreemde getuigenissen als echte ervaringen te zien. De hamvraag blijft niettemin “ waarom blijven mensen dergelijke ervaringen melden?”, zelfs met de angst om belachelijk gemaakt te worden of voor gek verklaard. Nochtans zit deze vrees er bij de getuigen diep in, want meestal vragen de melders van ufowaarnemingen om hun melding discreet te behandelen en hun identiteit niet bekend te maken of vrij te geven. Ze durven in veel gevallen hun verhaal zelfs niet kwijt aan familie, kennissen en vrienden! Je ziet welk “goed werk” de sceptici en de media geleverd hebben om het ufofenomeen zo belachelijk en gek mogelijk voor te stellen! Maar dien je als onderzoeker niet open te staan om mensen hun relaas te laten doen; hen een beetje houvast te geven bij deze vreemde ervaringen, die ze melden, zodat ze niet alleen staan in hun ervaringen en hun zoektocht naar de waarheid achter deze gebeurtenissen? Hen vooraf voor gek of niet goed bij het verstand zijn, als bedriegers of leugenaars uitmaken, is zeker geen positieve methode om deze “slachtoffers van een bizarre ervaring“ te helpen! Bij het gerecht is iemand onschuldig, tot het tegendeel bewezen wordt! Zijn wij als onderzoeker niet verplicht bij deze mensen dezelfde logica toe te passen? Indien later na een grondig onderzoek en analyse zou blijken dat deze ervaringen het resultaat zouden zijn van elektromagnetische pollutie of andere soorten stralingen, zoals GSM-masten, hoogspanningslijnen, energielijnen, onderaardse stromen, rivieren, ed. dan nog heeft de studie ervan een positief resultaat opgeleverd, als je daarmee de slachtoffers kan helpen. De vraag blijft dan nog wel bestaan waarom de getuigen dezelfde objecten, dezelfde wezens en dezelfde ervaringen beschrijven? Als het fantasiebeelden zijn waarom bestaat er dan geen grotere diversiteit? Maar als uit onderzoek zou blijken dat slechts één van de vele tienduizenden ufo-ontvoeringen echt blijkt te zijn, zoals de getuige beschreef, hebben wij dan geen probleem?

Weet je dat zelfs de sceptici durven toe te geven dat de getuigenissen vaak, ja zelfs altijd gemaakt werden door redelijk normale mensen zonder bijkomende motieven. Ze durven zelfs de verklaren dat als hun verhalen niet zo bizar en vreemd klonken, het zelfs onfatsoenlijk zou zijn om hen te wantrouwen… En toch, begrijpen wie kan, waarom worden de ervaringen van dezelfde personen dan niet ernstig genomen en beter onderzocht door de wetenschap en zelfs door de sceptici?

7.   WELKE UFOLOGEN HIELDEN / HOUDEN ZICH MET DEZE BIJZONDERE UFO-ERVARINGEN BEZIG?

Je kan de inspanningen bijna op je hand tellen, die gekwalificeerde ufologen leverden om deze ontvoeringervaringen uit de massa ufo-rapporten te selecteren en te bestuderen. Aimé MICHEL en Jacques VALLEE (nu USA) uit Frankrijk; Gordon CREIGHTON, later Charles BOWEN, Hilary EVANS en Jenny RANDLES uit Groot-Brittannië; in de USA hat je Coral en Jim LORENZEN, Ivan SANDERSON, John KEEL, Budd HOPKINS, Jacobs SAUNDERS en Dr. John MACK; in Nederland had je Hans VAN KAMPEN met zijn boek “De Gezanten van Hyperion” en de therapeute Hilda MUSCH: zijn de ufologen, die als pioniers het onbekende “land” van de vreemde ervaringen probeerden te doorgronden. Ze zetten hun goede naam, hun faam en geloofwaardigheid op het spel om in de woestijn van de ufologie de over ontvoeringen en het buitenaards karakter van het ufofenomeen te debatteren…

Zonder veel publiciteit te maken en op een stille manier verzamelde de Amerikaanse onderzoekster Isabelle DAVIS van NICAP de “sporen” van de humanoïde ufonauten. Ironisch gezien waren de eerste reacties van NICAP om deze ontvoeringgevallen gewoon te negeren en er verder geen aandacht aan te besteden. Omdat ze al meer dan 12 jaar strijd leverden tegen de media, tegen de wetenschap en vooral tegen de sceptici om de geloofwaardigheid en de betrouwbaarheid van de ufo-getuigen te bewijzen, leek het hen beter om alle landingsgevallen gewoon te verwerpen. Verhalen over vreemde, grijze wezens met grote schuine zwarte ogen en / of absurde humanoïden, die mensen ontvoerden om medische en voortplantingsexperimenten op uit te voeren, leek van het goede teveel en pasten niet in hun kader om de geloofwaardigheid van de ufologie te laten erkennen.

Uit schrik om belachelijk gemaakt te worden, naïef, ongeloofwaardig en onbetrouwbaar over te komen duizenden landings- en ontvoeringgevallen bestaan. Misschien net omdat veel van deze bijzondere gevallen het populair lijken te bevestigen dat ufo’s “vliegende schotels “ zijn, het product van een buitenaardse spits-technologische super-beschaving uit de ruimte lijken te bevestigen, laten sommige onderzoekers nog ruimte om ze te aanvaarden…

Actueel, als je heel voorzichtig en kritisch slachtoffers van ontvoeringen door aliëns ondervraagt, eventueel door gebruikt te maken van regressieve  hypnose, de leugendetector, ed., zoals thans bij de huidige meldingen gebeurt, lijkt het er sterk op dat ufo’s een echt subjectief verschijnsel zijn, dat deel uitmaakt van een groter geheel van psychische fenomenen. Misschien speelt de sociologische achtergrond van de getuigen één rol. Maar het is feit dat een getuige, wanneer hij een vreemde waarneming meldt, er direct aan toevoegt primo om zijn melding in alle discretie te behandelen en secundo dar hij / zij niets gedronken heeft, noch gerookt, noch specifieke medicatie slikt.. Hoe zou het toch komen dat mensen, die hulp zoeken zo op hun hoede zijn en zelfs angst hebben om hun ervaring te melden. Indien dit de wens was van de sceptici, dan hebben ze hun doel bereikt. Maar hebben wij niet de morele plicht om dergelijke “slachtoffers” op zijn minst hulp aan te bieden, in eerste instantie hun relaas ernstig te nemen en proberen een voor iedereen aanvaardbare verklaring te vinden? Enkel dan creëert je als onderzoeker een win-winsituatie!

8.   HOE GEDRAGEN UFONAUTEN ZICH?

Bij de meeste landingsgevallen lijken de ufo-entiteiten zich aals idioten te gedragen, dieren of breinloze robotten van één of andere soort. Bij de ufo-ontvoeringen reageren de wezens of de Greys dan weer  alert, doelbewust en doelgericht, meestal als “gevoelloze” onderzoekers, die een specifiek experiment uitvoeren met en op hun labo-dier, de mens. Vele ontvoerden beklemtonen tijdens de beschrijving van hun ervaring(en), dat ze de indruk hadden dat de entiteiten deel uitmaakten van een groter geheel en dat ze meestal een complementair deel leken te zijn van een grotere levensvorm.

In 1954 kennen wij de eerste, wereldwijde ufo-golf met vele landingsgevallen in Frankrijk, Italië en Zuid-Amerika. De eerst Belgische foto van een UFO dateert eveneens van 1954, werd boven namen gefotografeerd en komt dus ook overeen met deze periode, net als de waarneming van ufo’s boven Lotenhulle in 1955.

De Franse schrijver Jacques VALLEE verzamelde 200 rapporten over landingsgevallen van 1954 en bestudeerde deze heel systematisch. In 8 van de 200 gevallen of 4% verklaarden de getuigen dat de ufonauten kleien mannen of reuzen waren, volledig of deels bedekt met haren. Bij meer dan 75% van de gevallen, verklaarden de getuigen dat ze “verlamd” waren en “totaal machteloos om zich te bewegen” in de aanwezigheid van de wezens. Nog ongeloofwaardiger en merkwaardiger klinkt de vaststelling dat het aantal fysische (= medische) implicaties van deze nabije ontmoetingen op de getuigen nauwelijks of nooit ernstig genomen werden en verder grondig bestudeerd, ondanks het feit dat er duizenden gevallen bestaan van mensen, die beweren dat ufonauten hen ontvoerden..

Ook in 1954 werelden er al veel grijsachtige, niet menselijke BEMS ( = Big Eyes Monsters, Grote Insectogige monsters) gesignaleerd. In zijn boek ”Pasport to Magonia” somt VALLEE honderden landingsgevallen op, gespreid over een periode van de laatste eeuwen op. Inderdaad, dit soort gebeurtenissen lijkt zich al heel lang voort te doen, eerst héél onopvallend. Blijkbaar speelden deze bijzondere ontmoetingen met vreemde entiteiten zich doorheen de ganse geschiedenis van de mensheid af. Vele geschriften en legenden uit de Oudheid lijken dit alleen maar te bevestigen. Alleen evolueert de beschrijving van de vreemde entiteiten voor het tijdskader, waarin de gebeurtenissen plaatsvinden. Zo evolueert de benaming, die de slachtoffers aan deze wezens geven van goden, dwergen, engelen, demonen, in ons ruimtetijdperk spreken de “ontvoerden” over buitenaardsen…

Andere wereldwijde ufo-flaps situeerden zich in 1896/1897, in 1905 en 1909 door de waarneming van vreemde, zeppelinachtige luchtschepen. Door de analyse van deze historische gevallen kwam één van de karakteristieken van de ufo’s aan het licht. De ufo-onderzoekers stelden vast dat de inzittenden van deze luchtschepen ordinaire spullen verzamelden tijdens hun aardse vlucht en die later op de landingsplaats achterlieten zoals het uitwerpen van dagbladen, schoenen en zelfs geschilde aardappelen. Deze doodgewone, alledaagse dingen werden aangetroffen na het doorkruisen van ons luchtruim door deze vreemde luchtschepen, net alsof ze wilden ‘aantonen’, dat ze maar van onze planeet afkomstig waren… Toen ook al deze geruchten de ronde over “geheime uitvinders”, die testvluchten uitvoerenden met experimentele toestellen. Ook deze geruchten waren wereldwijd verspreid.

Het probleem bij deze historische relazen is dat de auteurs niet altijd alle details of karakteristieken van de waarneming weergaven. Waarom? Ofwel hebben ze er gewoon niet aan gedacht om alle details te vermelden of niet alle details opgemerkt; ofwel lieten ze doelbewust sommige details weg om de geloofwaardigheid van hun artikel niet aan te tasten.  De dag van vandaag laten ook de moderne journalisten wel een fantastische details van de actuele ufo-rapporten weg of omschrijven die in hun terminologie of interpretatie, gewoon voor de geloofwaardigheid van hun artikel, ofwel om hun getuigen niet in diskrediet te brengen of erger nog om die belachelijk te maken. Kan jij je voorstellen dat zelfs bij de melding van doodgewoon, vreemd lichtfenomeen de waarnemer ons vraagt om primo hun identiteit niet te onthullen en secundo de ufomelding in alle discretie te behandelen. Gewoon uit vrees om belachelijk gemaakt te worden of voor gek versleten, stellen ze deze eisen, zelfs in 2011! Het ridiculisering- en debunkingproces van de media, de wetenschap en de sceptici heeft blijkbaar zijn doel niet gemist.

Tijdens de oorlog had je ook meldingen van ‘foo-fighters’ of lichten , die de vliegtuigen begeleiden. Beide partijen dachten dat het om een geheim wapen van de anderen ging. Onlangs kwam nog  aan het licht dat Wiston Churchill vroeg om een “ufomelding” geheim te houden. Onmiddellijk na Wereldoorlog II was er spraken van het zien van ‘Ghost Rockets’, dan vooral boven Scandinavië, maar ze werden ook boven andere Europese landen gezien. De Amerikanen en de Engelsen hebben er zelfs onderzoek naar verricht, maar tot heden weten we nog niet wat dergelijke objecten waren. Eén hypothese was wel dat het om Sovjet-Russische testen ging…

In het najaar van 1965 manifesteerde zich een ander grote ufo-golf, vooral boven Mexico en de rest van de wereld. Mexicaanse kranten brachten verslag uit van 3 vrouwen van een zuidelijke voorstad van Mexico-City, die beweerden een groep wezens met gloeiende ogen van tenminste 3 m grootte, ontmoet te hebben. Deze vreemde wezens hadden geen zichtbare neus of mond. De drie vrouwen bleven de vreemde wezens niet lang bekijken, want in volle paniek holden ze naar de politie. Later werd in Brazillë ook een paar maal een vreemd wezen gezien. Het zou er zelfs gevangen genomen zijn…

Eind 1989 begin 1990 deed zich in België één van de beroemdste Ufo-flap voor, namelijk de waarneming van de onbekende driehoekvorm. Na de eerste waarneming nabij Eupen door twee rijkswachters en de grote media-aandacht volgden er nog honderden waarneming. Zelfs de Belgische luchtmacht raakte er bij betrokken, zond een paar keer een paar F16’s de lucht in na een waarneming… Tot op heden verklaren de mensen van de luchtmacht dat deze waarneming nog steeds onbekend is!

In Zuid-Amerika was er vanaf 1992 ook sprake van de Chupacabra of geitenzuiger dat is een wezen dat door getuigen wordt omschreven met twee rode ogen, twee gaten voor neusgaten, een mond met tanden uitstekende boven en naar beneden en zou worden bedekt met zwarte haren. Volgens sommige lijkt het op een vleermuis of op de vermeende alien uit de Roswellincident . Het maakt deel uit van de populaire cultuur in heel Latijns-Amerika, inclusief Mexico en het eiland Puerto-Rico. Het dier voedde zich door het zuigen van het bloed van boerderijdieren, zoals geiten of koeien door het maken van een perfect rond gat in de nek  en door het raken van de kleine hersenen doodde het het dier zonder geen pijn. Het kreeg daarom ook de naam geitenzuiger.

Begin 1996, Varginha, Brazilië. Over een periode van verschillende weken worden minstens twee, misschien wel zes, buitenaardse wezens gevangenen genomen of gedood en overgedragen aan de Amerikaanse overheid. Mogelijk is er ook een ufo gecrasht. Ooggetuigen beschrijven de buitenaardse wezens als mensachtigen, met een lengte van 90 tot 120 centimeter. Ze hebben een donkerbruine, haarloze huid, grote driehoekige hoofden met daarop drie korte hoorns en gigantische rode ogen die verticaal ovaal zijn. Op 20 januari 1996 nemen militaire strijdkrachten in Brazilië twee buitenaardse levende wezens gevangen. De 'vangst' gebeurde in de nabijheid van Varginha, State of Minas Gerais, centraal Brazilië. Dit feitelijk gegeven wordt aanzien als één van de meest gewichtige zaken ooit die in dit land, en waarschijnlijk de hele wereld, dat geregistreerd werd. De militaire autoriteiten trachten alle details van deze bergingsoperatie geheim te houden, maar dankzij het speurwerk van Dr. Ubiraja Franco Rodrigues en Vitorio Paccaccini, die in de omgeving woont en een respectvol en toegewijde onderzoekers is, lekte er toch informatie uit naar de ufologen.

Zoals je zelf kan lezen, duiken periodiek nog wel eens vreemde verhalen op, die een eigen leven gaan leiden, zeker als de media er alle aandacht aan besteden… Je begrijpt dus zelf wel dat je als ernstige, objectieve en kritische onderzoeker echt met open geest onderzoek dient te verrichten naar deze verhalen en echt op je hoede blijven. De vraag blijft, waarom blijven mensen dergelijke bizarre verhalen vertellen?

9.   HOE REAGEREN OP DERGELIJKE VERHALEN?

De meeste ufologen negeerden decennia lang dergelijke rapporten door ze niet te publiceren in hun tijdschriften, of ze probeerden ze weg te cijferen als speculatieve onzin vaak vreemder dan de originele rapporten. Bepaalde ufo-onderzoekers gingen zelfs zo ver om in de originele ufo-rapporten, waarin spraken was van abnormaal grote ufonauten, deze weer te geven als “kleine, groene mannen”. Dit aspect van de manipulatie van ufo-verslagen door aanpassing of wijziging van de inhoud van de melding in functie van de verklaring, de theorie of de visie, die een ufoloog aan een bepaalde waarneming wenst te geven, bewijst dat de objectiviteit, eerlijkheid, realiteitszin en fairplay tegenover de waarnemer en zijn getuigenis vaak ver te zoeken is, maar wel een noodzaak bij de studie van het ufofenomeen. Uit ervaring weet ik dat dit nog altijd een actueel probleem is! Bij een specifieke case, die wij mede onderzochten, spraken de getuigen over een ovaalvormig object met een boord van een tiental lichten. Een sceptische mede-onderzoeker, die de stelling aanneemt – het zal wel een vliegtuig zijn , want het licht op de landingsroute voor de luchthaven voor vliegtuigen – vermindert het aantal lichten tot een tweetal… Onze onderzoeker van BUFON – een ingenieur op rust met jaren onderzoekservaring - had een afwijking vastgesteld in het elektromagnetisch veld tijdens het tijdstip van de waarneming, met zijn zelfgebouwde meetinstrumenten. Om deze afwijking “weg te toveren” probeert hij nu onze onderzoeker bij zijn mede, sceptische collega’s als onbetrouwbaar te laten overkomen, gezien hij niet al zijn vragen over de meetinstrumenten zou beantwoord hebben… ( Misschien snapte hij wel niet de uitleg van een ingenieur, niet?) Al bij al het maakt het samenwerken tussen collega’s met een andere visie en die een ander doe nastreven dan een objectief onderzoek en niet gemakkelijker op.

Zo kan ik nog bladzijden schrijven over onderzoekers, die deze vreemde ontvoeringgevallen bestuderen en anderen, die proberen deze belachelijk te maken of voor nonsens te verklaren… Het onderwerp is actueel bespreekbaarder geworden en met het internet is er de ruimte om zijn ervaringen anoniem te slijten, veel ruimer geworden. De slachtoffers kunnen zich zelf groeperen via sommige sites en onderling over gedachten wisselen over hun vaak pijnlijke ervaringen. Gedeelde smart is halve smart…

De sceptici vergelijken de ontvoerden met de mystici uit vroegere eeuwen, want beiden geloven dat ze iets ervaren hebben, dat aan anderen ontzegd wordt; ze zijn zogenaamd uitverkoren. Het enige bewijs van hun ervaring is hun geloof dat het gebeurde en het relaas dat ze er aan geven: dat is de stelling van de sceptici…

Volgens deze twijfelaars is het feit dat mystieke ervaringen, net zoals de ontvoeringverhalen, op overeenkomstige manieren wordt beschreven door de mystici in verschillende lande en tijdsperioden, geen bewijs voor de echtheid van hun ervaringen. Volgens hen lijkt de overeenkomst eerder in de gelijkvormigheid van de menselijke ervaring, namelijk elke cultuur kent geboorte, seks en dood…

Volgens de bronnen van de sceptici lijken deze ontvoeringen door ufonauten niet allee op mystici, maar ook op de middeleeuwse kloosterlingen, die geloofden dat ze verleid waren door de duivels en er seks meehadden; ook op de vrouwen uit het oude Hellas, die dachten dat ze seks gehad hadden met dieren en op de vrouwen in latere millennia, die geloofden dat er heksen waren. De therapeuten van de ontvoerder van nu, zijn de priesters van toen, die de waanvoorstellingen niet er discussie stelden, maar ze aanmoedigden, koesterden en ze deden er alles aan om deze verhalen te laten aanvaarden. De sceptici vergeten er echter bij te vermelden dat de historische slachtoffers van demonen en de heksen hun bekentenis vaak via de folteringen van de toevallige wetenschappelijker en kerkelijk inquisitie deden en vaak ook onschuldige kennissen tot lotgenoten maakten en een gruwelijke dood door verdrinking of op de brandstapel stierven. Gelukkig kan die “inquisitie” de huidige ontvoerden door ufonauten niet fysisch veroordelen tot de dood, maar niettemin proberen ze deden personen psychisch klein te krijgen… Ze stellen de ervaringen van deze personen dan ook voor als waanideeën; als “wishfull thinking”; als bedrog; ja, zelfs als geïmplementeerde verhalen door frauduleuze therapeuten of onderzoekers! Ze gaan zelfs nog verder door te spreken over bepaalde, psychiatrische stoornissen, die gekenmerkt worden door waanideeën. Je ziet zelf, alle middelen zijn goed voor hen om deze bizarre ervaringen te vernietigen, door het wegnemen van de geloofwaardigheid en betrouwbaarheid van getuigen en onderzoekers…

De littekens, die sommige slachtoffers verklaren opgelopen te hebben tijdens hun ontvoering, en de implantaten, die bij sommige ontvoerden operatief verwijderd werden, doen ze gewoon af als fysische letsels van gewone aardse ervaringen en dingen. Ook de implantaten worden door de sceptici minachtend en op systematische wijze verworpen als gewone aardse dingen…

Als je de houding en de reactie leest van de media, van de sceptici, van de seculiere, materialistische wetenschap over ufo’s, over ufo-ontvoeringen en andere esoterische onderwerpen, is het niet verwonderlijk dat alle getuigen huiverig staan om tegenover de “publieke inquisitie” te staan met hun waarneming en / of ervaring.

Het doel van een sceptische onderzoeker blijft sowieso om een aardse, doodgewone verklaring te vinden voor alle vreemde fenomenen en / of ervaringen en niet zo zeer om een afdoende verklaring te vinden, aanvaardbaar voor alle partijen voor de bizarre ervaring, zodat een win-winsituatie ontstaat voor iedereen. Uiteindelijk wille ze enkel hun doctrines en axioma’s als evangelie verkondigen en laten erkennen door de grote massa. Ze verwerpen alles wat in strijd met hun visie. De onderzoekers, die echt proberen om een logische verklaring te vinden voor deze ervaringen, ongeacht de origine, en zo het slachtoffer te helpen, zijn voor hen enkel fraudeurs en charlatans. Maar wie heeft in feite een psychiatrische aandoening met waanideeën en een behandeling nodig: het slachtoffer van een vreemde ontvoeringervaring en zijn onderzoeker / therapeut, die de ontvoerder tracht te helpen of de gefrustreerde, sceptische onderzoeker, die aan alles en nog wat twijfel?

10.              Besluit.

In dit artikel heb ik misschien harde woorden gesproken over een scepticus, maar lees het boek “Woordenboek voor een Scepticus” en je begrijpt best wat ik bedoel. Ik heb persoonlijk niets tegen kritisch en objectief onderzoek, zolang het met open geest gebeurt en niet dat je begint met een verklaring en alles karakteristieken van een melding daarin doet passen, soms door het weglaten van belangrijke details.

Ik heb respect en begrip voor alle onderzoeker, ongeacht hun visie, zolang ze hun onderzoek eerlijk en fair doen en aan opbouwende kritiek doen. De tijd dat de believers en de kritische onderzoekers zich moesten laten kleineren en geen verhaal konden halen via de geïndoctrineerde media is gelukkig voorbij. Via het internet en diverse site en blogs kan iedereen nu zijn verhaal kwijt zonder gevaar dat hij / zij belachelijk gemaakt wordt.

De twijfelaars, die op alle mogelijke manieren proberen de hoop bij de gewone, normale mensen weg te nemen, spelen in mijn ogen een vuil spel. Acupunctuur, een Chinese manier om het lichaam en geest te genezen, bestaat al duizenden jaren voor onze klassieke geneeskunde… Homeopathie breken zij af als een placebo-middel of –effect, terwijl zij vergeten te vermelden dat enkele eeuwen geleden, de “artsen” de patiënten probeerden te genezen met middelen, gemaakt van kruiden… Zo kan ik nog wel wat verder gaan, maar dit gewoon om aan te geven waarom ik liever als een “hoopvolle believer” wil gezien worden dan een “gefrustreerde, levenloze scepticus”.

Toch blijf ik hopen dat we vroeg of laat een gulden middenweg kunnen vinden, waardoor we al deze vreemde, esoterische fenomenen Samen kunnen bestuderen, analyseren en een voor iedereen logische, aanvaardbare oplossing te vinden. Maar bestaat Utopia wel? Of is dat ook weer zo’n waanidee…

Shuttle Spots UFO?

Friday, July 8, 2011 marked the final flight of Space Shuttle Atlantis and the end of an era. This was NASA's last space shuttle launch, and future manned flights will not be planned for several years. So, it's really no surprise that at least two eagle-eyed observers have noticed a UFO in the video footage of Atlantis making her final voyage.

It is increasingly common for UFO sightings to be reported surrounding historic events, natural disasters, and manmade accidents. It was only a matter of time before the final flight of Space Shuttle Atlantis was recognized as the setting for another potential UFO.

Nineteen-year-old YouTube user Chase Campbell ( ThatsJustChase) spotted the UFO. You can click hereto launch his video, "STS-135 Atlantis - Last Flight 2011 seen UFO?"

Mr. Campbell is a guitarist, songwriter, musician, and singer who describes the UFO sighting as follows: "Look at the last few seconds just above the back connector on the external fuel tank. Could that be a satellite taking a photo or what? It is by definition a ufo...."

He is correct. Until the object clearly visible during the last few moments of the video is otherwise identified, it is a UFO.

HOUSTON -- Sometimes, the last man on the moon sounds like one unhappy hero.

Gene Cernan, an affable ambassador for America's space program during the Apollo era, has lately become an outspoken critic of what he considers a deliberate agenda to destroy what NASA has wrought.

"I'll put it straight to you," Cernan said. "The agenda is to dismantle America's space program."

Cernan commanded the final flight of Apollo in December 1972, landing in a lunar valley deeper than the Grand Canyon and living on the moon for three days. In television pictures beamed back from the mountainous landing site, he waxed optimistic about the future of humanity's space exploration efforts.

"America's challenge of today has forged man's destiny of tomorrow," he told an audience of television viewers back on Earth as he cradled a moonrock in his gloved hand.

But today, with the space shuttle poised for its final flight, Cernan is downright pessimistic and more than a little irritated. He's sharply critical of what he believes is a lack of direction in the nation's space effort.

"There's no objective," he said. "There's no timetable. There's no goal. And there's no mission."

Cernan expected other space travelers to follow in his lunar footsteps, but now he's convinced that he will "go to [his] grave as the last man on the moon."

He testified before Congress earlier this year, complaining that the nation is surrendering its role in space exploration.

"We're retiring America's space program," he said. "We're out of the business. We're abdicating. We're giving leadership back to the guys we took it away from."

When Cernan joined the nation's space effort during the Gemini days in the 1960s, he dedicated his professional life to beating the Soviet Union to the moon. Now, he watches in dismay as the United States retires its space shuttle fleet and pins its future on a space capsule designed a half-century ago by Russians. Soyuz spacecraft launched from Russia will offer the nation's only access to space.

"I don't think people have given much thought to this whole program, this whole process," Cernan said.

With the space shuttle fleet headed for retirement in museums, Cernan argues NASA should keep at least two of its billion-dollar orbiters in hangars, just in case the nation needs them. After all, he argues, what will happen if they need to haul something big to the space station?

But he hopes Americans will, as he puts it, "wake up" in a few years and realize their country has lost the ability to put men and women in space, something NASA first achieved a half-century ago.

"I think after this launch, it's going to be nostalgic," he said. "It's tragic from the standpoint that we can no longer get anywhere from here."

President Barack Obama answers a tweeted question on space policy.

Question in a Twitter town hall meeting Thursday, President Obama suggested spaceflight is stuck in the Apollo-era mode and said NASA needs a technological breakthrough to allow faster, longer spaceflight with a goal of getting astronauts to Mars.

"Frankly, I have been pushing NASA to revamp its vision," Obama said. "The shuttle did some extraordinary work in low orbit: experiments, the International Space Station, moving cargo. It was an extraordinary accomplishment and we're very proud of the work that it did. But now what we need is that next technological breakthrough.

"We're still using the same models for space travel that we used with the Apollo program, 30, 40 years ago. And so what we've said is: Rather than keep on doing the same thing, let's invest in basic research around new technologies that can get us places faster, allow human spaceflight to last longer. And what you're seeing now is NASA, I think, redefining its mission.

"We've set a goal: Let's ultimately get to Mars," the president said while fielding questions from Twitter users about the economy and other subjects. "A good pit stop is an asteroid." He joked that a specific asteroid has not been chosen.

Obama was clear in alluding to what some critics have said: NASA's human spaceflight program has been stuck flying circles around Earth for decades.

"Let's start stretching the boundaries so we're not doing the same thing over and over again," he said. "Rather, let's start thinking about what's the next horizon? What's the next frontier out there? But in order to do that, we're actually going to need some technological breakthroughs that we don't have yet."

The president did not dismiss low-Earth orbit efforts, but put that responsibility on the shoulders of private enterprise. Let the private sector handle routine tasks of sending vehicles into Earth orbit, he said.

And he mentioned how that could, in time, lead to space tourism:Each shuttle flight costs a billion plus dollars and since they have circling Earth for thirty years it is time to reach out further in space.

On "Independence Day, July 4th in 1951 there were 2,713 drive-in theaters in the U.S. and many were showing one of the most anticipated films of the year, "The Day the Earth Stood Still. Flash forward to the Cold War of the 1980's, and this same movie is credited with "inspiring Ronald Reagan to discuss uniting against an alien invasion when meeting Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev in 1985. states a Nov. 1, 2008 New York Times points to "The Day the Earth Stood Still" as inspiring Reagan to discuss alien invasion

The report noted that both Lou Cannon and Army Gen. Colin Powell told the New York Times that the film "The Day the Earth Stood Still inspired President Regan to not only discuss "alien invasion with Gorbachev, but also moved the president " during a 1987 speech to the United Nations general assembly " to say: "I occasionally think how quickly our differences worldwide would vanish if we were facing an alien threat from outside this world.

The New York Times story about Reagan's interest in the movie "The Day the Earth Stood Still " and "how it inspired him to address the issue of alien invasion " was revealed by Powell who served on Reagan's national security staff, and by Cannon who served as Reagan's biographer; writing five books about Reagan, including the acclaimed "President Reagan: the Role of a Lifetime.

A key point in the film is when the alien visitor talks freely about the Earthlings he's encountered (in 1951) and states: "Even with their advanced technology, they cannot truly overcome death.

According to the original 1951 Twentieth Century Fox promotion -- for recent 60th anniversary DVD and Blue Ray edition of "The Day the Earth Stood Still -- it's "one of the first films to portray aliens from space as advanced saviors rather than menacing monsters. The Day the Earth Stood Still has become a classic atomic movie' of the 50s. Klaatu () lands in Washington, D.C., accompanied by a huge robot armed with an awesome death ray as well as capabilities far beyond anything the Earth has ever seen. His mission is a peaceful one.

However, the original promotion for the film also points out that "the human race reacts with mistrust, fear and violence, leading Klaatu to demonstrate his un-Earthly powers in a mind-boggling lesson for all mankind.

One of the film's most famous lines is "Gort! Klaatu barada nikto! This was an order from Klaatu (Michael Rennie) to protect their flying saucer sitting in a ball field in Washington, D.C., until their mission was complete.

It was not only President Reagan who was inspired by the 1951 classic "The Day the Earth Stood Still." I was also, because I sat next to Michael Rennie on a flight while I was in my Air Force uniform. He told me, "The Air Force helped make the picture and he worked on many films for the Air Force.

Kepler Space Telescope Picks up Six Planet Star

NASA's Kepler space telescope has picked up multiple planets in a system with a star much like the sun, the largest group of transiting planets yet discovered. The system is very different from the one we call home. The star, about 2,000 light years away, is very much like the sun, but the planets around are in fast, tight orbits. One takes as little as ten days. Five of the six are closer to their sun than Mercury is to ours. One of the most surprising things about the system is that it is stable at all, says Jack Lissauer, a co-investigator for the Kepler Mission at NASA's Ames Research Center. For that many planets to be crammed into a small radius the orbits have to be nearly circular, and they have to have just the right distance from each other.

"This is why I was so surprised," he said. "There were so many planets so close in."

Many of the solar systems discovered have been the homes of Jupiter-sized planets in eccentric orbits. Those types of systems are much easier to see, because a big planet's effects on the parent star are more visible. Kepler is designed to seek out planets closer in size and mass to Earth.

Thus far Kepler has had one big success - in January NASA confirmed it had found the first rocky planet outside our solar system. It is 4.6 times as massive as Earth and has a surface temperature approaching 2,500 degrees Fahrenheit, and like the most recent crop of planets, orbits close to its star.

In this case, Kepler found six planets, all of them transiting the face of the star, called Kepler-11. The outermost one is on the order of 45 million miles out. The sizes of the planets around Kepler-11 range from 1.97 to 4.5 times the radius of Earth. The largest are comparable in size to Uranus and Neptune, which means they probably have a lot of hydrogen and helium, Lissauer said. Their heavy gravity allows them to keep those gases in their atmospheres for a relatively long period. The smaller planets, Lissauer says, are denser, and could have a mixture of rock and water. But the water wouldn't be like an ocean on Earth. Without any other gases in the atmosphere, the water would vaporize and become the atmosphere. Whether a planet retains an atmosphere at all depends on the surface temperature and the gravity, Lissauer says. In our own solar system, a planet like Mercury can't hold an atmosphere very long because it gets blasted by the sun's heat and any gases (and most liquids) boil off and get blown away by the solar wind.

In the Kepler-11 system, the fact that the planets are heavier would mean they can hold an atmosphere longer. Lissauer says the only ones they are reasonably sure about are the largest two, which given their diameters and masses would have to have retained a lot of hydrogen and helium.

For Kepler 11's planets, the surface temperatures would be between 1,400 degrees and 1,100 degrees Fahrenheit, assuming they had no atmosphere at all. (Venus, by comparison, has a very thick atmosphere and maintains a surface temperature of 860 degrees F, while Mercury, which is airless, gets to about 750 F at noon).

Scientists can learn so much about the system because of the way Kepler finds planets. When a planet transits across the face of its star, the light dips slightly. The size of the planet can be deduced from how the brightness changes, and by observing over several months one can estimate the period of its orbit. That gives a good estimate of the planets mass.

Lissauer says the team poring over the data will keep looking for evidence of more planets. He notes that the telescope can only see a small portion of the sky, and even then, only those planetary systems that are facing edge-on towards Earth. That means there are many more that Kepler can't see.

Thus far more than 1,200 candidates for planets have been found. About 68 of them are Earth-sized, with a fraction of those in the "habitable zone" of their stars, the distance at which liquid water can exist.

Kepler won't be the last mission like this. Kepler only looks at a relatively small part of the sky, centered on the constellations Cygnus and Lyra. Lissauer says he has a proposal in for another mission, one that will survey the whole sky, using better camera technology (Kepler was designed a decade ago). While that one won't be quite as sensitive as Kepler is, it will do a better job of finding systems closer to us as it will look at a wider area. He hopes to get it launched about five years from now.

Coincidence, a day on Mars and a day on Earth last almost the same amount of time. California Disc

NORTH HOLLYWOOD -- We were sitting outside enjoying the evening on the Fourth of July with friends having a barbeque. I looked up into the shy and i say a black circular disc moving from the southeast to the northwest. At first sight i thought it was a balloon, but it did not ascend at all, it was gliding like a jet, below the clouds. It looked like a hockey puck, but as it was so far away, it was much larger than that. There were no lights, and we followed it until it left our sight in front of the San Bernardino Mountains Thanks to MUFON CMS

MT SHASTA -- I was at a park in Mt. Shasta, California. My boyfriend and I all went to the park so that we could see the volcano up close and take some good pictures. I was unaware of the UFOs at the time of the park visit and had no sighting of them while I was physically at the park in the town of Mt. Shasta.

I first noticed the UFO objects in my pictures a week or so after the actual park trip on 7/9/2011 when I was zooming into them using my computer. I noticed that many (mostly all) of the pictures that I took directly of Mt. Shasta contained little dots that were somewhat hard to notice at first glance when the pictures were not zoomed-in upon. The dots in the pictures are not in consistent spots and seem as if they were moving as I was taking the pictures. I took the pictures over a span of about 5 to 10 minutes and was on my way without knowing that I had even taken photos of the said UFOs.

Georgia Mother Ship

Atlanta -- Annie S. writes, "When I was 18, my brother and I were on the interstate just outside of Atlanta, we looked up at the sky and saw a UFO. We were dumbfounded and then started to see little ships come out of the mother ship, then some blasts of light went from one ship to another and they disappeared before our eyes - with no sound at all! We thought we were crazy until we looked around and realized that everyone on the freeway had stopped their cars and was witnessing this, too!! We even investigated if there were any military maneuvers that day, but came up blank. I bet the military knew full well what had happened, but they were obviously keeping it quiet. It was an amazing thing to see, and I'll never forget it as long as I live." Thanks to Annie.

Illinois Triangle

GlEn ELLYN -- I was looking at the moon with my boys and saw a jet on flight path to a local airport and noticed way above the commercial jet a triangular shaped object that was heading east on a straight line. It had a short contrail behind it five times the length of the object. I think it was a military plane but it was way to high and going way too fast than normal. My reaction was this is really odd, like a SR-71 but those are retired. It looked like the shape of the Space Shuttle but I know that is not up there. It has yet to launch. I tried to take a picture with my cell phone camera but the object was too far up to get into the picture. It reflected white in front of the contrail. It was close to sunset so the sun rays were reflecting off the bottom of the object as it flew out of sight into the distance. I would like to know if the FAA tracked the object. Thanks to MUFON CMS

Maryland Ball of Light

ABERDEEN -- We were sitting outside at out picnic table talking and watching a couple of airplanes flying by on June 29, 2011, when we noticed strange objects flying without blinking lights. The first one we saw was flying south about the same speed as an airplane that was a bright white ball of light, and we could see an airplane at the same time. That's how we knew there was a difference. As the object got to a certain point south of us it just disappeared. The second object was coming from north northeast going south southeast at the same rate of speed, but this one was a ball of red light. The third and fourth ones we seen looked like the first one and heading in the same direction north to south and it was a bright white light like the first one. Missouri Bright Unidentified Object

Osage Beach -- At 8:45 PM, on June 29, 2011 the second night in a row that I was out on my lakeside porch near the Grand Glaze Bridge. Bright white orb moving across night time sky.

The orb had a trailer much like a comet, but moved smoothly and slowly across the sky. It emitted bright white aura and then turned red before disappearing. This area has commercial air traffic and is specifically used for military training. I am used to seeing aircraft that has more than one continuous light. Both nights had same visual on orb moving across sky before slowing and disappearing. The night before I had contact on same orb, but with a jet trailing behind by about 14 seconds. This helped confirm that the object I was looking at was not commercial. I had never even heard of this site until these sightings.

Michigan Fireball

Chesterfield Township " On July 4 and 5, 2011, at 11:30 PM to 1:30 AM, I noticed a bright red "fireball for lack of a better description coming from the south slowly towards a local fireworks display. I called for my girlfriend to come outside to see. She brought out her camera and shot a trio of photos. By then, it was due West of us. It flew away at high speed and faded from view. I went back out again at about 1:30 AM and didn't see anything until I turned and saw it directly overhead and CLOSE. I yelled for my girlfriend because it was right HERE! I am a pilot and it wasn't any aircraft I ever seen. The object had no position lights etc. It was only 600 to 1000 feet above us and moving slowly towards the West. There was a fireball an above it I could see a disc shaped structure that looked like a 35 feet in diameter parachute. This was about and noiseless (the fireworks were all done) no engine, jet or rotor sound was heard. It was completely SILENT. The Disc varied in color from bright red to blood red to deep crimson purple. Then my girl friend came out and all you could see was the fireball. Missouri Orb

AFFTON " On June 25, 2011, at 8:30 to 9 PM, the photos were taken. A storm front was moving in and my wife and I noticed the heavy cloud formations due west of our home. I shot several pictures and next day I was looking at the photos and noticed the object. The camera is a Kodak C653, 6.1 mega-pixel. I did not actually see this object, because I was watching the thunder and lightning to the north. Note: The enlargement of the photo shows a triangular shaped object. O'FALLON -- I was at a family BBQ in the backyard waiting for fireworks to start and we noticed in the southern sky an orange flare-like object that appeared to be moving slowly but steadily westward. It was unlike a plane or a firework, more flare like. The orange light also seemed to be somewhat directional. The silent light finally just slowly winked out was gone. Shortly thereafter we watched from the direction of Lambert Airport three red lights jets take off and climb straight up in to the sky and disappear. It was 11 PM, and I was walking near my home in O'Fallon. I witnessed the orange light again for probably 45 seconds moving northwest before it slowly winked out. Thanks to MUFON CMS

Montana fire-orange Light

MISSOULA --My boyfriend was outside smoking and called my daughter and I outside because he was seeing something strange in the sky on July 1, 2011. We are avid sky watchers so I ran outside and saw that it was not a normal light in the sky so I ran back inside to grab my camera so I could video it. It was a very bright, fire-orange light that seemed to travel horizontally at first, and then it started to go up horizontally until it disappeared. It seemed cigar shaped and there were no flashers like airplanes have. The fire-orange light around it was very bright and was tons bigger than any stars in the sky. There was also no sound. We were very excited to see it. The video I got does not do it justice. It was way bigger than it shows and does not show the fire-orange light around it very well. Maybe with the technology you have access to you will see something.

New Jersey Light Traveling

Barrington -- Brilliant light traveling southeast, slowly dimmed and vanished at 10:14 PM, on June 29, 2011. My daughter and I were sitting in the yard talking when this bright light came into my view around 55 degree elevation heading southeast, altitude about 1500 to 2000 feet. The object continued southeast, became very dim and vanished. The object traveled perpendicular to the Philadelphia landing pattern. My daughter photographed the object with her cell phone. The sky was clear and the object made no audible sound. Thanks to MUFON CMS

South Kearny " On June 17, 2011, about 1:30 pm I went out on the porch at work to see the on coming Thunder Storm. I was talking to a co-worker when big flash of lightening struck. We were watching the sky for more lightening and seconds later, I said to my co-worker, "What's that"?? First he said it was a bird, then said it was a black plastic bag then said, "I don't know".. I told him to keep it in sight and I'll go get my camera.. I have a 10x zoom on my camera and managed to get 3 pictures as it traveled from South to North in a pretty direct path over my job in South Kearny, NJ before losing sight of it over our building at work... All I know is that it was Unidentified and it was flying. This case was investigated by Lida Griffith and has been classified as '' unknown''.

KEN PFEIFER WORLD UFO PHOTOS

Cape May county -- At around 10 pm on the 4th of July my wife and I were heading south on Rt47 in NJ between Goshen and Indian Trail Rd (Rt147). I noticed and orange glowing ball in the sky off to north west of us and at first thought it to be fireworks. I watched for a short while realized it wasn't bursting or falling to the ground. I pointed it out to my wife and as I got closer I lost site of it but my wife could still see it out of her side window. She opened the window and told me stop the car that I had to in her words "see this thing". I pulled onto the shoulder and we both got out as the object passed over our car going from west to east I could clearly see a round object. It was bright orange. In it's center there appeared to be something like a brilliant reddish orange flame or burner and around the perimeter were orange dots. The whole object was bright orange. There was a moderate but steady flow of traffic heading in both directions so I thought for sure other cars would stop but none did. The object made no noise and kept traveling east until it was out of sight. As it went away form us it looked more like an orange ball again. I took a picture with my blackberry camera but it came out looking like a small dot in the sky. I believe it was overcast that evening as I don't recall seeing any stars. I have tried to rationalize what I saw, thinking it was some kind of 4th of July display or possibly the bottom of a balloon gondola with a 4th of July display under it but nothing made sense. I have never seen anything like it in my life and neither has my wife.

I'm just surprised that I have not heard anything about anyone else seeing it. The way it traveled out of sight it was heading for Wildwood on one of the busiest nights of the year. Maybe you folks have received some reports, I just can't believe we were the only ones to see this. The whole episode lasted maybe 3 minutes. I can't say how large it was or how fast it was going. If you held bottle cap over your head and looked up at it, that's about size it looked up in the sky but the details I describe looking straight up under it were very clear.

New York Spherical Objects

On July 4, 2011, we saw several pink/orange spherical objects initially in triangle formation with many to follow. I already posted this but now have the two pictures we managed to get (I wanted to get permission from the person who took it). North Carolina Cigar

Elizabeth City -- Three of us were on a sailboat in the Albemarle Sound in route from Manteo to Coinjock (NNW). We were motoring at 7.5 nautical miles per hour & had passed Kitty Hawk to the East at 10:50 AM, on July 1, 2011. I believe that we were southeast of the mouth of the Pasquotank River. We were constantly scanning the water watching for crab pots, debris, sailing markers, etc and hoping to see dolphins. Around Noon I saw in the distance (NNW, 3-5 miles) a very large white shape, rectangular with rounded ends. It was so pale it blended with the skies & water but was distinct from the nearby trees. There was some smoke from the peat fires to the East so the view was not the best. I studied the sight with binoculars & didn't have a clue about what I was seeing. I pointed it out to the other sailors who also looked and had a similar reaction. We could not determine if the object was hovering, floating, teetered or otherwise secured. It did not seem to move. I took two pictures though it was very hard to see the object in the lens. I zoomed out (shutter speed 1/1250; focal length 60.0 mm) in the direction I was looking & clicked twice. Remember, we were on a boat so holding a camera steady is a challenge! The first picture shows the complete object that we estimated was over 200 feet tall and 1000 feet long. The second picture shows the object partially hidden by trees. (The object was NOT moving; our boat was taking us out of sight of it as we continued our trip.) Look closely in the trees to the right & see a house to get perspective of the size. We wondered if it was a blimp since we had seen a blimp and blimp hangar on June 21 when we were leaving Elizabeth City. But, it was much larger and a different shape from any blimp we could recall. The bulges on either end of the object and the lack of "fins" plus the sheer size of it made us doubt that possibility. Also, there were dark squares that appeared to be windows near the mid-line along the right side of the object. At the time we were wondering what it was, trying to figure it out, knowing we had never seen anything like it. We were curious but assumed there was a logical explanation. CLEVELAND " On July 4, 2011, at 11 PM, We saw a white to red sphere shaped object moving north to south. Many people saw it. I did not have tripod (sorry), but as I zoomed in you can see how red and bright it was. It looked white from far away. I caught it again at the end of film and it seemed to morph into something very strange. The video does not do it justice.

Cleveland -- The witness mailed a sketch along with a lengthy description of experiences with the orb along with more recent experiences. The witness was watching TV and saw an illuminated round green crystal that floated in mid air. The crystal was about the size of a large grapefruit. The witness felt more "shocked than scared."

The witness thought the crystal was some sort of machine and certainly real. It float for about 12 seconds. It was present long enough to make a detailed description. Within the crystal were four green rings. Two rings turned slowly clockwise and the other two turned counter-clockwise. There were also two white lights that pulsated on and off. Within each ring were adjoining sections (dark green) that were shaped like mounted panels. The witness had the sense of "being watched." When the witness called to a family member in the kitchen the crystal suddenly disappeared into tiny metal fragments.

The witness described subsequent strange encounters with unknown beings since the above incident. These accounts are not included in this report.

Which satellite is the one that is accompanied by luminous orb-like bodies while travelling in space? Please advise :) A new video shows a UFO that appeared to witnesses "as bright as a second sun" crossing the skies over the ECETI Ranch in Trout Lake Washington on the evening of Monday, June 27, 2011. The event was just one in a series of ongoing sightings that occurred during the previous four nights, captured in both visible light and infrared night vision using a stereo camera imaging system. Trout Lake -- This photo was taken on 6/27/2011. I was taking random nature shots of the area and discovered this little object at the top of the frame. It's one object - the two squares are zooms of the same object. I didn't notice it while I was taking the shots. It's a shame I couldn't get more detail, but I was shooting in RAW format so I was able to zoom in to get the most detail from the original. Notice the color shift from top to bottom and the vertical lines coming from the top and bottom of the object.

Brazil Orb

SAO PAULO " As a tourist to S?o Paulo, I was returning from photographing a park called Parque da Independ?ncia on saturday July 9th, 2011 (4pm local time), coming towards Ipiranga CPTM train station to take a ride back to Br?s station, when I saw a shape floating over the neighborhood of "Vila Prudente". The shape caught my eye, because when it was moving, it looked like the sun was making different reflections of light from the object like a mirror would in a sky, plus keeping my eyes focused on the object, it seemed to have blueish, blinking lights. I took a couple of photographs of the object with my Canon X-43 digital camera, 10x zoom on max, from the entrance to the Ipiranga station, looking at the object, which was slowly moving about against the clear blue sky. When I entered the station and went to the open air train departure area, I was unable to locate the object again. All in all, I saw the object for about 15 minutes. Colombia Flying Object

At 9:20 PM, Colombian time on July 9, 2011, I went to the balcony and observed an object was moving from side to side. It was yellow and red and was not a plane, helicopter. The object flew in a circle without explanation. The first reaction I had was it was a star. It was still for a few seconds, but after that it began to show yellow and blue colors as it moved from side to side. I have seen videos of ufos and stuff like that because I have interest in the subject but what I saw today was not anything I've ever seen on TV. I've never seen something so unusual. Russia Flames

MOSCOW -- I saw a very strange flaming object on July 9, 2011. I had been sitting on my terrace at my country house, when I noticed a strange flying object above. This attracted my attention because it was flaming and burning like a plane was on fire. I thought something had happened, but the flaming object was flying in a straight trajectory. After that I called my friends and parents and it changed trajectory slightly to the left and started to fly away and up. We could make out that it was one object and looked like it was made up of three flaming balls (one big and one small one on the each side). Guildford -- "I had just put our car in the garage and was walking back towards the house on July7, 2011, when I spotted two orange lights moving at speed through the sky. They were closer and much faster than a plane. Also they were silent and there were no flashing lights, so they were definitely not planes or helicopters. They were heading northwest and ended up being obscured by trees. I ran into upstairs to grab my camcorder and told my fiance what I had just seen. We looked out of the window and another orange light flew past fast, before I had the chance to turn on my camera. I went outside and saw another orange light to the north of my house and managed to get some brief footage of it, which shows its speed. They moved to fast to be Chinese lanterns and the final one came from a totally different direction than the others. Thanks to MUFON CMS

Test confirms Roswell debris is not from Earth

A teacher at the New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell may have discovered the first scientific evidence of manufactured debris made on another planet. Furthermore, this debris was found near the location where pieces from an alleged flying saucer were discovered outside of Roswell in 1947.

Frank Kimbler teaches high school level Earth Sciences and college level Geology at the New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell. He says he has always had an interest in UFOs, and actually had his own unusual sighting in his twenties. So when he moved to Roswell, he decided to put his expertise to the test and take a shot at investigating the most famous UFO incident of all time, the crash at Roswell.

He says his main goal was to find some physical evidence. He started by looking at some satellite imagery of the alleged “debris site.” This is where rancher, Mac Brazel, had told the Air Force he had found pieces of the crashed object. Kimbler used these images to enhance the infra-red in order to highlight areas where the ground was disturbed. He was surprised to find an area that was similar to what witnesses had described. It was about ¾ of a mile long and a few hundred feet wide, and facing the direction witnesses had reported. He also noticed this area had very straight edges, something unusual for a natural occurrence.

His next step was to get out there with a metal detector to see what he could find. He began making trips to the site in May 2010. Using a metal detector that could find a piece the size of a BB, three inches below the surface, he would be able to find small pieces, which was exactly his goal. In previous archeological digs in the area they had sifted dirt through screens with holes large enough for very small pieces to fall through. Kimbler figured that if there was anything left it would be very small and perhaps in animal burrows, or ant hills. An ant hill was actually where he found his first piece.

What he found was a silvery metal that looked aluminum. This was strange because there were no indications of any sort of aluminum objects in the area. He occasionally found tin, which would come from parts of tin roofs blowing around, and some nails. He eventually found more of these silvery pieces, and says they looked shredded. Some of the edges even appear melted. He also found some aluminum buttons that appear to be the type used on military fatigues in the later 40’s. If that is the case it demonstrates that the military was in the area.

Kimbler felt the small silvery pieces were interesting enough for further analysis. To get some help he went to the Roswell International UFO Museum and Research Center. Located in downtown Roswell, the museum is the main hub for Roswell UFO crash research. He showed the material to the museum’s director, Julie Shuster, and was able to meet with researcher Don Schmitt. They decided to fund the first test which was done by New Mexico Tech in Socorro. Using a micro-probe, they were able to determine the material’s composition. It turned out to be an aluminum, silicon, manganese, copper alloy. It is not unknown, but it is used in construction and not usually found in a foil form.

This further inspired Kimbler to get some isotope work done on the piece. Kimbler says the isotope work is so important because the ratios are “very much like our fingerprints.” Certain concentrations of elements on earth are unique to Earth. So if you know isotopic ratios for magnesium, it will be the same for anything on earth with magnesium, but if it is not from Earth, it will have a different ratio. For instance meteorites have different ratios because they are not from Earth. Isotopic analysis is necessary to determine if a material is from Earth or another world.

Kimbler went to the University of New Mexico Institute of Meteoritics, and talked to their expert on isotopes to get an analysis done. Kimbler had not told the expert anything about the samples. He looked Kimbler “square in the eye” and told him that the only reason he would want to get this sort of test done is because he suspected the material was from outer space. He wanted to know where the material was from, and when Kimbler told him he refused to do the test, stating that the idea of a spaceship crashing at Roswell was “a bunch of hooey.” One of the other scientists in the office actually argued the point that if it is something unusual, the importance of that possibility makes it worth taking a look at. However, the expert didn’t budge and refused to do the work. The second scientist was a micro-probe specialist at the University and although he could not do any isotope work, he was able to get more specific information about the material’s composition and confirm the early work that had been done.

Bigelow Aerospace showed some interest in helping Kimbler with his analysis, but after spending months with little results, Kimbler had to go elsewhere. Kimbler was able to find another lab with multiple certifications willing to do the work. The UFO Museum put up the money, and the results were back in five days. Kimbler says he almost fell over when he saw the information. The ratios were off, and as he puts it there were only two answers to explain the results, “either the lab made an analytical error or the material is not from Earth.”

However, Kimbler’s work is not finished. He says, “Following good scientific method protocol one set of data is not going to cut it.” In order to prove the lab did not make a mistake he needs to get more work done. He says he does have two more certified labs lined up to do more isotopic testing to confirm the work done thus far, and that he may have this work done within the next few weeks. Kimbler says in order to confirm the material is not from Earth, it is necessary to have two or three labs showing the same results.

Another important aspect of the material being aluminum and showing unearthly origins is that aluminum must be manufactured. Unlike some natural elements, such as gold or silver that can be found as nuggets in its raw form, aluminum is not found in nature. If this proves to be material not of this earth, it means this was something that was manufactured elsewhere. Thus far humans are not manufacturing anything in space, let alone something that would fall out of space and land outside of Roswell in a location where an alleged spacecraft was found in 1947.

Kimbler says he is being careful before making any definitive claims, but he is “hopeful.” He says certified labs don’t normally make mistakes, and that these people who did the work are some of the best in the business.

The implications if Kimbler’s material turns out to be of extraterrestrial origins and manufacture are of course startling. Could he have the smoking gun to prove we are being visited by an intelligent civilization from another planet, and that they crashed outside of Roswell in 1947? Kimbler says he will keep us up to date, and has been gracious enough to provide us with pictures of the material and the analysis.
