Mijn elpees uit het jaar 1973
Twee maanden volgde ik in dat jaar een opleiding in Mechelen (ik had al twee maanden opleiding achter de rug in 1972) alvorens voor 8 maanden te verhuizen naar West-Duitsland, waar ik, naast mijn activiteiten in de B.S.D., goedkoop vinylplaten kon kopen in Rheindalen of Krefeld. Geweldige LP die ik mij tegen een prikje kon aanschaffen.
Het gelijknamig debuutalbum van de beruchte Britse hardrockgroep.
Een geweldige plaat van de Britse artiest met zijn kameleontrekjes.
The Jazz Crusaders waren in 1970 van hun epitheton ornans "Jazz" afgestapt en brachten nu jazzrock.
De tweede LP van Eumir Deodato, de Braziliaanse artiest, die volgde op het keigoede "Prelude".
Jerney Kaagman was niet de eerste zangeres van de Nederlandse symfonische band. "Memories" is een geweldige schijf!
En in 1973 was Golden Earring de favoriete band van Mick Jagger en zelfs in de V.S. werd hun "Radar Love" erg gesmaakt.
Don McLean brak in 1973 door met "American Pie", een song die gaat over "The Day The Music Died", het neerstorten van het vliegtuigje waarin Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper en Ritchie Valens zaten (3 februari 1959).
Gilbert O'Sullivan werd bekend dankzij zijn imago uit de Jaren '30: kortgeschoren kruin met een pet en een fluwelen broek met bretellen. Vanaf 1973 gooide hij het roer totaal om en verscheen hij met een eigentijdse lange haardos op het podium.
Tamla Motown had maar weinig blanke acts bij hun label. Rare Earth was er één van. De band bracht schitterende versies van composities van Norman Whitfield.
Lou Reed zong en speelde in de Jaren '60 bij The Velvet Underground en verraste vriend en vijand met zijn debuutalbum "Transformer".
Carlos Santana was zijn imago van Woodstock (1969) helemaal ontgroeid en begon meer en meer het pad van de jazzfusion te bewandelen.
Nog een debuutalbum van een nieuwe zangeres die doorbrak met haar schitterende debuutsingle "You're So Vain". Maar over welke ijdeltuit ging die song alweer?
Steve Miller was al bezig van in de Jaren '60 met zijn band waar toen ook Boz Scaggs in zat. Met het prachtige "The Joker" wist hij mij te bekoren.
Paul McCartney zat verstopt in de band Wings en het album "Red Rose Speedway" reken ik tot zijn allerbeste, na "Ram" en natuurlijk "Band On The Run".
