Alle apen omgekomen bij brand in Duitse dierentuin..
In de zoo van de Duitse stad Krefeld, nabij Duisburg, is tijdens de oudejaarsnacht een zware brand uitgebroken in het apenverblijf. Alle dieren die er verbleven, zijn omgekomen. Dat meldt de dierentuin woensdagochtend.
“Onze diepste vrees is waarheid geworden. Geen enkel dier in het apenhuis heeft de brand overleefd”, zo schrijft de zoo in een bericht op Facebook. In het apenhuis verbleven onder meer orang-oetangs

Het Oogziekenhuis in Rotterdam had het vannacht drukker dan ooit, meldt de NOS. Er werden na 23.30 uur achttien slachtoffers binnengebracht.
Kinderoogarts Tjeerd de Faber was afgelopen nacht aan het werk en hij spreekt van een horrornacht. Twintig ogen raakten beschadigd, waarvan tien blijvend letsel zullen hebben. De Faber zegt dat de toename ten opzichte van vorig jaar 50 procent is.
Het jongste slachtoffer was 14 jaar. De meeste anderen waren dertigers.
“We zien helaas een trendbreuk. Afgelopen jaren zagen we juist dat oogletsel rond Oud en Nieuw langzamerhand afnam. Dit heb ik in acht jaar niet meegemaakt.”
Geen van de slachtoffers had een vuurwerkbril op, en in veruit de meeste gevallen bracht legaal vuurwerk de schade toe.
