Mars voor de Rechten van het Dier in Amsterdam

Dierenvrienden gaan op 25 augustus naar Amsterdam, want de hoofdstad sluit zich aan bij de ‘Official Animal Rights March’, de Mars voor de Rechten van het Dier. Een vreedzame protestmars die twee jaar geleden het licht zag in Londen, met 2.500 deelnemers. In 2017 verdubbelde dat aantal en kwam Tel Aviv erbij met al 20.000 deelnemers. Dit jaar is de mars voor het eerst ook in Amsterdam, met een krachtige boodschap: respect en recht op vrijheid voor alle dieren!

Dagelijks worden we geconfronteerd met mishandeling, misbruik en uitbuiting van dieren. De wreedheden tegen dieren zijn vaak niet eens in woorden uit te drukken, maar de beelden staan op ons netvlies gebrand en de geluiden vergeet je nooit meer.

Het verzet groeit
Het groeiende verzet tegen door de mens veroorzaakt dierenleed krijgt een steeds krachtiger stem, die op 25 augustus ook tijdens de Mars voor de Rechten van het Dier in Amsterdam gehoord gaat worden. Want het is genoeg geweest: het mishandelen en uitbuiten van dieren moet stoppen!

Loop mee in Amsterdam
Deelnemers aan de Mars voor de Rechten van het Dier verzamelen zich op zaterdag 25 augustus om 12 uur op de Dam in Amsterdam, waarna er een traject van 4,5 kilometer gelopen wordt naar het Museumplein. De manifestatie duurt tot 16 uur. Veel organisaties hebben aangekondigd dat ze deelnemen, met onder meer bekende namen als Dier&Recht, Animal Rights en de Partij voor de Dieren. De hoop is natuurlijk dat er massaal gehoor wordt gegeven aan de oproep om mee te lopen, voor een toekomst waarin dieren met respect behandeld worden en het recht hebben om in vrijheid te leven.

Celebrities Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin is vandaag overleden. Ze vocht al jaren tegen kanker en was al enkele dagen ernstig ziek. Franklin werd 76 jaar.

De zangeres scoorde wereldhits met nummers als ‘Respect’ en ‘(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman’. Ze stierf in haar eigen huis, in Detroit, waar ze verzorgd werd door een thuisverpleegster. Haar familie en meest hechte vrienden waren bij haar toen ze het leven liet.

De laatste jaren was ze erg zwak, en trad ze nog maar zelden live op. Haar laatste performance dateert van november vorig jaar, op het AMFAR evenement van Elton John. 

Franklin werd geboren in 1942. Ze begon met zingen in de kerk van haar vader, en maakte zo veel indruk als Gospel-zangeres dat ze in de jaren ,60 een platencontract van Columbia kreeg aangeboden.
