Unusual times, with so many unanswered questions – We share music, pictures and thoughts online with the hope that we can bring some comfort and reassurance to each other. Everyone is looking for new ways to connect, make music and create whilst in our own homes. Katie Melua and I have created this video, an intimate, home-made version of our new single “No Better Magic” from my upcoming album “City Lights”, with the input of our wonderful followers and with help of our Georgian friends. We would usually be so busy bringing music to you from concert halls without time at home, so I am happy to be able to bring you something we would perhaps not have been able to do in normal life.
Tijdens de winter van 1944-1945 werd er in Nederland op grote schaal honger geleden. Ook was er een groot tekort aan brandstof. Vooral West-Nederland was getroffen, mede omdat de Duitse bezetter het treinverkeer met voedseltransporten had stilgelegd. Dit was een represaillemaatregel voor de ‘algemene spoorwegstaking’ van 17 september 1944, uitgevoerd om de geallieerden te ondersteunen bij operatie Market Garden. Naar schatting kwamen 20.000 Nederlanders om door honger en kou.
Nadat mijn ouders na meer dan 10 jaar gehoopt hadden op een kindje en de hoop al hadden opgegeven diende ik me aan… Surpriseee…
Mijn moeder verwachtte een kleine rebel en “trouble maker”..
In een ijzig koude winter zonder brandstof en voedsel .
Ze leefden van bloembollen en suikerbieten.
En mijn lange slanke vader woog nog maar krap 50 kg .
Ze wilden hem afvoeren naar een Duits werkkamp, maar hij verdween op een oude fiets met houten banden vanuit Amsterdam helemaal naar Franeker in Friesland .
In de hoop daar wat eten te regelen .
Dwars door razzia’s en spervuur, waagde hij zijn leven voor zijn aankomend gezin.
Ondertussen probeerde mijn Friese opoetje ( zijn moeder ) mijn moeder van brandstof te voorzien en ging ze soms hele dagen langs de straten zoeken in de ijzige kou voor eten en brandstof .
Wat een vreselijke tijd.
Ik ontstond in september 1944,
dus de hele hongerwinter moest ik door om eindelijk na de bevrijding op 22 mei tevoorschijn te komen …
En ik was dol op mijn kleine dappere opoetje uit Franeker, Friesland.
Ik heb dan ook mijn dochter naar haar vernoemd: Feikje.
Nederlandse staat aangeklaagd om opdringen 5G-netwerk

De stichting Stop5GNL vindt dat de staat oogkleppen op heeft als het gaat om het ‘veilig’ uitrollen van het nieuwe en snelle 5G-netwerk. ,,De blootstelling aan 5G wordt ons opgedrongen.” De stichting probeert vandaag in de rechtbank in Den Haag de uitrol van 5G stop te zetten. Juist vannacht werd in Den Haag bij twee zendmasten brand gesticht, brand nummer 22 en 23 in Nederland.
Terwijl er steeds minder eenden zijn is de wilde eend de meest bejaagde diersoort van Nederland. In het jachtseizoen vanaf half augustus tot eind januari mogen deze vogels voor het amusement van een kleine groep jagers worden doodgeschoten.
In 2018 werden meer dan 104.000 eenden uit de lucht geschoten.
De populatie neemt af en voor de daling is nog geen verklaring gevonden. Het is niet meer dan logisch om meteen te stoppen met de jacht. Ieder doodgeschoten dier is er altijd één te veel, maar onder deze omstandigheden helemaal.
PS De daadwerkelijke afschotaantallen liggen nóg hoger, want de cijfers van de provincies Friesland en Flevoland zijn niet inzichtelijk. Animal Rights heeft een WOB-verzoek ingediend bij deze provincies.

Animal Rights pleit voor een volledig verbod op de plezierjacht.
De Chinezen zijn de grootste barbaren ter wereld! Zij eten bijna alle dieren, zelfs honden en katten worden (vaak levend) gefild en gekookt!
Deze barbaarse levenswijze heeft hiermee o.a. het CORONAVIRUS veroorzaakt en verspreid!
Iedereen weet dat dit virus uit China komt en ook de oorzaak hiervan!
China hield opzettelijk bewijs achter van de uitbraak van het coronavirus of vernietigde dit. De Australische krant The Saturday Telegraph kreeg een rapport van samenwerkende inlichtingendiensten Five Eyes in handen. Dat spreekt volgens de krant over een “aanval op internationale transparantie” die tienduizenden levens kostte.
Het rapport stelt dat de Chinese regering “met gevaar voor andere landen” het nieuws over het virus heeft verdoezeld. Artsen die zich hierover uitspraken werd het zwijgen opgelegd of verdwenen, bewijs uit laboratoria werd vernietigd en het land weigerde om levende monsters te verstrekken aan internationale wetenschappers die werken aan een vaccin.

Die studie is nu het onderwerp van onderzoek naar de oorsprong van COVID-19.
Inlichtingendiensten onderzoeken nu of het virus per ongeluk uit een laboratorium in Wuhan is gelekt. Het betrokken onderzoeksteam staat onder leiding van wetenschapper Shi Zhengli.

Hij kwam in opstand tegen de wreedheden en de onrechtvaardigheid van het fascisme .
Dat werd door de nazi’s niet op prijs gesteld en hij werd totaal onverwacht uit zijn huis gesleept terwijl hij rustig een pijpje zat te roken .
Hij werd vreselijk gemarteld omdat ze namen wilden hebben van medestanders.
Hij zei niets.
Hij werd opgehangen aan een ijzeren staaf aan zijn voeten en overgoten met ijskoud water vervolgens onder stroom gezet .
Zijn tanden rammelden uit zijn mond maar hij bleef zwijgen .
Ze zijn doorgegaan tot hij stierf en niets heeft gezegd.
Vervolgens is hij spoorloos verdwenen en de familie heeft nooit meer iets vernomen .
Tot zijn kleinzoon in een klein Duits plaatsje kwam wegens een sport uit wisseling en de naam van zijn moedige opa Bér Vallen op een gedenkzuil daar vond.
Ik heb nog steeds zijn kleine gebroken porseleinen pijpje een doorrokertje .
Lieve moedige ome Bér ik heb je nooit gekend maar heb je genen .
Je bent niet vergeten , dit is een tribuut aan jou en zovelen met je !

HSI vecht tegen de wrede handel in hondenvlees in landen in Azië.
Lokale partnerschappen ter plaatse
Het beëindigen van de Aziatische handel in hondenvlees voor goed stelt complexe uitdagingen die een echt begrip van de situatie ter plaatse en een meerlagige strategie vereisen. HSI’s primaire focus ligt op de handel in hondenvlees in China, Zuid-Korea en India, en – via ons lidmaatschap van de Asia Canine Protection Alliance en de Dog Meat-Free Indonesia-coalitie – in Vietnam en Indonesië.
In Zuid-Korea, India, Vietnam en Indonesië hebben we HSI-teamleden die in het land wonen. In China ondersteunen we de inspanningen van meer dan 35 dierenbeschermingsgroepen in campagnes, openbaar onderwijs en praktische redding. In Zuid-Korea werken we samen met lokale voorstanders aan een brede agenda van hervorming en beleid en wetswijziging.
Wetgevende hervorming
In Zuid-Korea dringen we er bij de nationale regering op aan zich in te zetten voor een geleidelijke stopzetting van de hondenvleeshouderij en voor samenwerking met beleidsmakers die voor hervorming zijn. In India, waar de handel in hondenvlees al illegaal is, wil ons HSI / India-team samenwerken met lokale wetshandhavingsinstanties om hondendieven en -smokkelaars te stoppen en om het verbod beter te handhaven. Heeft in China deskundig advies gegeven aan Chinese dierengroepen om verschillende wetgevingsvoorstellen voor een verbod op de handel in hondenvlees voor te leggen, en hoopt dat de tijd snel zal komen dat het Nationale Volkscongres dergelijke voorstellen ondersteunt en robuuste dierenwelzijnswetgeving voorschrijft. Met een verbod op de handel in hondenvlees in Hong Kong, Thailand, de Filippijnen, Taiwan en Singapore, is het een realistisch doel om een einde te maken aan de handel in andere Aziatische landen.
Bovendien werkt HSI samen met het Foreign and Commonwealth Office in het Verenigd Koninkrijk om tot zinvolle actie te komen en heeft het een sleutelrol gespeeld bij het vormgeven van recente congresresoluties in de Verenigde Staten.
Dierenredding: China
Met maar liefst 30 miljoen honden per jaar die lijden aan de handel in hondenvlees in Azië, is het simpelweg onmogelijk om onze weg uit deze wrede onderneming te redden, daarom is redding slechts een onderdeel van onze strategie. In China hielp HSI met het opzetten van een team van activisten, China Animal Protection Power genaamd, dat contact onderhoudt met de lokale politie om vrachtwagens te stoppen op de snelwegen vol met honden en katten op weg naar slachthuizen. Aangezien deze dieren grotendeels illegaal van de straten en hun huizen worden verkregen en illegaal over de provinciegrenzen worden vervoerd zonder de nodige papieren, kunnen onderschepte vrachtwagens door de politie in beslag worden genomen en de honden in beslag worden genomen. Veel van de geredde honden zijn ziek of gewond, dus de donaties van onze supporters hebben ertoe bijgedragen dat ze veterinaire zorg van topkwaliteit en een veilig toevluchtsoord hebben gekregen, zodat ze kunnen herstellen en weer kunnen leren vertrouwen. We hebben deskundige training en ondersteuning gegeven aan schuilplaatsen om ervoor te zorgen dat ze volgens de hoogste normen in China werken.
Dierenredding: Zuid-Korea
In heel Zuid-Korea lijden maar liefst twee miljoen honden maanden of zelfs jaren intensief gefokt op boerderijen in kleine, metalen, kale kooien met weinig voedsel of water, blootgesteld aan de harde elementen. Ze krijgen geen aandacht of veterinaire zorg. Ze worden met winst gekweekt en uiteindelijk verkocht en geslacht, meestal door elektrocutie, voor menselijke consumptie.

Vanwege het sluiten van horeca is er veel minder vraag naar kalfsvlees en de kalverhouderij vraagt nu om financiële steun van de overheid. Dat is absurd voor een sector die voornamelijk produceert voor de export. Terwijl de kalveren hun korte leven slijten onder bedroevende omstandigheden, verdwijnen de enorme winsten binnen de branche al jaren grotendeels in de zakken van een steenrijk familiebedrijf, de VanDrie Group.
Grote overschotten door corona
Nu horeca is gesloten en het kalfsvlees niet geëxporteerd kan worden naar Italië, Frankrijk en Duitsland (waar normaal zo’n 95 procent van het kalfsvlees naartoe gaat!) dreigen grote overschotten te ontstaan. Zolang de melkproductie doorgaat, blijven er tenslotte kalfjes geboren worden. Daarnaast importeren Nederlandse kalverhouders jaarlijks ook nog eens meer dan 800.000 kalfjes van buitenlandse melkveebedrijven. De piepjonge kalveren slijten hier hun korte leven op kale, harde roostervloeren zonder ooit buiten te komen.
Overvolle stallen
Nu de afzetmarkt voor kalfsvlees volledig is ingestort, worden er veel minder kalfjes geslacht. De dieren blijven daardoor langer op de boerenbedrijven. Dat klinkt positief, maar de op winst gedreven kalverhouderij is er niet op ingericht om kalfjes een langer leven te geven. De dieren krijgen steeds minder ruimte in de afgesloten en overvolle stallen.
Stop import
Dier&Recht riep landbouwminister Schouten vorig jaar al op om de import van kalveren te verbieden. Nu de coronacrisis een enorm overschot aan kalveren veroorzaakt, is dit hét moment om de kalversector definitief aan banden te leggen.
