Stevig wandelen beter voor hart dan joggen
Een flinke wandeling verkleint de kans op hartziekten effectiever dan joggen als evenveel energie wordt verbruikt. Dat blijkt uit een studie waarover de Britse krant The Guardian bericht. De onderzoekers vergeleken 6 jaar lang de resultaten van ruim 33.000 joggers en 15.000 wandelaars tussen de 18 tot 80 jaar.
Joggen brengt de kans op een hartziekte terug met 4,5 procent, terwijl wandelen 9,3 procent minder kans op zo'n aandoening geeft. De kans op hoge bloeddruk loopt bij hardlopen 4,2 procent terug en 7,2 procent bij wandelen.
Vrijwel dezelfde cijfers komen naar voren bij de kans op hoog cholesterol, toonde het onderzoek van de Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in Californië aan. (br.hln)
