Villa van maffiabaas wordt kunstgalerij
Een villa nabij Napels die toebehoorde aan een baas van de camorra, de plaatselijke maffia, opent binnenkort de deuren als kunstgalerij. Zondag start het "museum", het Casa Don Diana in het maffiabolwerk Casal di Principe, een tentoonstelling met een twintigtal schilderijen in bruikleen van het beroemde Uffizi in Firenze.
De expo onder de titel 'La luce vince l'ombra' (Het licht overwint de schaduw) moet de buurt een "frisse wind" bezorgen, zei minister van Cultuur Dario Franceschini.
De vorige bewoner, lid van de Casalesi-clan Egidio Coppola, zit achter de tralies. Zijn villa werd in 2012 geconfisqueerd en vernoemd naar de priester Don Peppe Diana, die 21 jaar geleden door een maffioso was vermoord.
De villa is niet het enige voormalige maffia-vastgoed in Italië dat een andere, meer verheven functie krijgt. Een optrekje van de maffia-peetvader Salvatore 'Toto' Riina in Palermo, bijvoorbeeld, is omgebouwd tot een ... politiekantoor. (br.hln)
