Na de recente aardbeving in Nieuw-Zeeland vindt Melissa Doubleday dit zonderlinge object op het strand. Ze denkt eerst dat het een walvis is. Wanneer ze het aangespoelde voorwerp van naderbij bekijkt, slaat de twijfel toe. Wat is dit in godsnaam?
Doubleday heeft het raadselachtige object dat bedekt is met zeepokken aangetroffen op het strand van Muriwai nabij de stad Auckland op het Noordereiland. Ze neemt er een foto van die ze op 9 december op Facebook post. "Weet iemand wat dit is?", schrijft ze erbij.
Op social media is het debat ondertussen in alle hevigheid losgebarsten. "Dit is een zeemonster", beweert Nick Vitasovich. "Is het misschien een tijdscapsule van buitenaardse wezens?", vraagt Kathleen Kerr zich af. "Wow, wat een vondst! Geen idee wat het is", schrijft een andere gebruiker.
