Jongste wereldzeilster (16) moet recordpoging staken na aanvaring met vrachtschip





De Australische Jessica Watson (16) wil net als de Nederlandse Laura Dekker (13) als jongste zeiler ooit een soloreis maken rond de wereld. Maar nog geen 24 uur na de start van haar poging is ze met haar zeilboot tegen een vrachtschip aan gevaren.

Flinke schade
Jessica vertrok maandagochtend vanuit het Australische Mooloolaba met als enige doel de jongste solozeiler - rond de wereld - ooit te worden.

Haar droom viel al snel in duigen. Voor de kust van Stradbroke Island, vlakbij Brisbane, raakte ze een enorm vrachtschip. Jessica's boot liep flinke schade op door het ongeluk, de jonge zeilster bleef zelf ongedeerd. De politie van Queensland begeleidt Jessica nu terug naar huis. Of en wanneer de 16-jarige een nieuwe poging zal gaan wagen, is onbekend.
